A group of us went here on Diwali day and feasted on samosa chaat, dosa, rice, naan, and popular side dishes. The mango lassi was authentic. The real surprise was the gulab jamun which tasted homemade! Service is friendly, prices are decent for the neighborhood its in, and decor is unintrusive, if uninteresting. Definitely a place with an authentic touch. Worth a second visit!

My wife and I were looking for an Indian restaurant in the heart of the village by Washington Square park and we stumbled upon this place I have to tell you they have great lunch specials up to 5 PM and great dinner deals it's a small clean and quiet restaurant with great food and many options I hope it can withstand the high rental areas of the village

We've been here on our last two visits to the Village and we are hoping to make it a tradition. There's nothing fancy about this small place, but the service is good, the space is very clean, and the food is great. This is an example of how you can have a great meal for a reasonable price. For me the key to good Indian food is excellent spices, fresh, quality ingredients, and not too much salt. A lot of places miss the last part and add way too much salt. The food here is very fresh and well balanced. I'll be coming here again soon.

I tried shrimp biryani and ginger gobi. Both were good. Food was a bit greasy and hence 4 stars. Ginger gobi wasn't much different than gobi manchurian. Standard Indian stuff. The staff were very good and that's another reason for four stars.

* located in a beautiful area * enjoyed the food very much * same street with Minetta Tavern * same street with Monte's Trattoria * same street with Creperie * You have to eat at all of these * but for Indian flare Mirch is your place.

Having tasty food in New-York is often expensive. We tried this little Indian restaurant located on MacDougal St and were not disappointed: tasty dishes and drinks (try the mango lassi) at a very fair price. Try it !

I visited this restaurant on the New Year's, 2015. Its atmosphere was serene and appealing. I ate vegetarian dishes mostly. Taste was superb.

Mirch Masala is a small neighborhood bistro size place... maybe overall capacity of 25-30 all on one side. So if it's cold or raining there isn't much shelter inside to wait for a table. We were there on a saturday evening, so we expected to wait almost anywhere on Macdougal/The village. The meals were quite good and quite spicy - the waiter told us it would be. I enjoyed mine, one other was in spices too deep for her....so gimme some yogurt, cucumbers !! :-) The service was good and ok speed-wise. It looked like there were a few people not doing much in/around the counter that could have helped clear tables tho. Overall good Indian fare, fair price, bright, clean & tidy.

We had a fantastic meal tonight. My wife and I are in NY for a couple of months. We love Indian cuisine and we are living in the neighbourhood. The food was terrific and James (our server) was excellent too. We will be back.

I went with my family while visiting New York . We absolutely loved the food. If I could give more than 5 stars I would give them . You should definitely try this restaurant. Nestled near the NYU campus and washing square park . It’s a gem. If I visit again I will be going back to this place. Price was also appropriate. It a small cozy restaurant , I loved the ambience too. The person who served the food was also very friendly . We loved the food .

The food here is extraordinary for the price. While not the most spacious place, the food is the best Indian food that I have had anywhere, except maybe India. The meats were tender and well seasoned using fresh ingredients which made the dishes ‘pop’. The service was swift and pleasant. And, a very good value!

Came here for lunch as a spontaneous decision, while walking past it. We shared 4 dishes and the food was all really good and really fresh tasting, with good size portions. The service was great as well and the atmosphere was slick and clean. My only complaint would be that I thing some Indian music would have helped to make a better atmosphere, than the pop/R&B music that was playing. Would definitely come here again, the next time I'm in NY.

If you don't mind sitting very close to your fellow customers and walking through the kitchen to go to the restrooms, Mirch Masala offers great food at an affordable price. The menu is comprehensive. We liked a lot the Chicken Zafrani and the Palak Paneer (this one really excellent)

Fabulous food and wonderfully accommodating service. Love this place and the casual ambiance. Will definitely go here again.

Fabulous, freshly made food. I had the paratha tools, which were delicious, while the rest of my family had regular curries. Helpful staff suggested a ild shrimp curry for my son, which he loved. Not a huge amount of meat or fish in the dishes, but came with lots of rice, and wonderfully tasty sauces.

Very good food and nice place. Ate chicken tikka masala and chicken jalfrezi. Delicious raita and nan. Friendly service.

Excellent Indian. My wife had Salmon Tandori and I had the chicken. Very well presented, good portions, fantastic flavours. Had a couple of beers but you can bring your own wine. Bill was $75 including tip - fantastic value for New York

We went 2 October take dinner specialy eating jalebi it superb test n take paneer amritsari n dam biryani its amazing taste both items

Fantastic delicate food in a nice little place, where the staff made you feel so welcome. We can only give this place the absolute best recommendations.

My wife and I meandered through the streets in Greenwich Village, looking for a cozy place to have lunch and quietly celebrate the launch of my novel ‘Reflections of Dreams.’ In the midst of our leisure walk, we came across a great cuisine, an Indian jewel, nestled in the heart of Bleecker and MacDougal Streets. If you’re into spices, you might want to try the Lamb with Basmati rice lunch special. For this dish, you should also order the Naan (bread) and dip it into the puree of potato and eggplant that the Lamb comes with. Although the puree is a bit piquant, it’s the kind of spicy food that you just want to keep eating masochistically. The Chicken Tikka Masala is simply phenomenal! We both loved it! To refresh your throat, I suggest you order the Mango Lassi. It’s so soothing and tasty. The restaurant is quite inviting and relatively new. The staff is warm and friendly, with a rich knowledge of Indian gastronomy. I highly recommend Mirch Masala! Luis Jacome

We got to this place by chance, walking around Soho. It´s small but the Lamb we had was just perfect, even on the next day! Loved the Orca dish as well. The service was very friendly and attentive. Would definitely come back.

My wife and I were in NYC for a few nights and we ventured down to bleaker street one evening. Intending to go for a pizza we fell upon a small restaurant offering Indian cuisine. We decided to go for it and the dishes we had were amazing.. We started with onion bajies which were delicious and very light, then we opted for two dishes of chicken jalfrezi and a lamb dish which I can't recall the name but both were great.. The portions were abundant and perhaps more than we needed, the rice was light and well cooked and the roti and nan were excellent. It's on our return list when we are next in the city ... Oh and I must mention the service and welcome were wonderful.

a true indian cuisine, with great prices. a little too spicy, but everything is so well served and cheap that it goes well!

We ate their lunch menu during the week. I had the goat special and my husband the chicken tikka Marsala special. both came with the basmati rice and chickpeas. Really reasonable price for around $10 each. Nan was additional.

Great Indian food with wonderful flavor, although it could be spicier, next time I will ask for a more traditional spice level.

The food was good and the portions were large. Some of the items were very authentic but a couple of them were not so. You could tell they had Westernized some of the items.Service was good.

A small anonymous restaurant in Soho, always a good sign to see people eating with their hands India-style. Great food relatively cheap. Nice friendly staff.

Best Indian food I have ever eaten! The decor, the service, the range of flavors, the presentation, the hospitality, MM has it all! We SO enjoyed ourselves and thank the team for their gracious hospitality. We ate there on Jan. 3 (yeah, I'm a little behind on my review-writing!) and immensely enjoyed ourselves. Our gracious host (name?) was more than accommodating suggesting different dishes for us. Chef prepared the food beautifully, while I don't have pics to share, it was delivered with great care and pride. They seem to have a great on-line/delivery/take-out as there were people coming in constantly to pick-up a to-go meal. However, if you have the time, please consider eating in as they have a great atmosphere with what seemed to be no more than a 30-person dining area. How cozy! If I lived even remotely close, I would be there at least once/week, the food is THAT good. It's a not miss restaurant. Their prices were more than reasonable and they had a nice selection of Indian beers. Thank you Team Mint Masala, you may not remember us, but we remember you! :--) Appreciatively, Patrick Chicago, IL

If you use UberEats to order food from this restaurant think it twice because they take over 15 minutes to prepare food

A quaint restaurant in Soho. Food is freshly prepared to order. You have a choice between levels of spice mild, medium and hot. They run a lunch special during the week on their curries for eat in and takeout. Quite surprised how generous the potions were. The masala tea was really good. Very satisfying meal.

I want to stay away from cliches but I can't ... this was one of the most outstanding, fabulous, delicious, well priced and happily served Indian fare I have ever had. PLEASE don't change a thing; we'll be back!

Great Indian food here, don’t underestimate this small hole in the wall! The food is great and very flavorful, although the lemonade wasn’t the best the service was great!

had a lovely meal. lamb vindaloo, dahl, and chick pea starter that was very tasty. service was friendly. atmosphere enjoyed. highly recommend.

Have ordered delivery 3 times by Seamless with consistent and prompt results. Lamb Biryani here is okay, but nothing to write about. I hate to say it, because it's my favorite dish, but I'd avoid the Biryani at Mirch Masala and stick with the curries, which are better. The Chicken 65 was nice and spicy and well enjoyed. Dal Tadka was perfect; full of flavor and the right consistency. This simple dish is a joy when done right. My order of Chicken Kadai was better than average

Very reasonably priced, fast service, fresh food. This is a small restaurant with a few tables set along one wall. Staff was friendly. Looking into the kitchen you could see how busy they were catering to take away orders as well as in-dining. The cooks were busy and the ingredients fresh. Very tasty, well priced, generous portions and yes, we would go again.

Ate here last night. Their spinach saag is too creamy and bland, very little paneer in it. Chicken tandoori was dry. It wasn't bad food but nothing to write home about.

... decorated and friendly atmosohere. Guests slightly younger than average. Large portions and good value. No acohol served.

We used to go to Indian Taj which was on Bleecker Street but they unexpectedly closed. It was a great buffet which had great food and good atmosphere. After they closed, we tried a couple different Indian restaurants. You don't realize how expensive Indian is, really took advantage of price and taste when Indian Taj was around. We were walking near the same area and saw Mirch Masala was opening. We thought we'd try it even if the prices are fair, I would think expensive because I've had Indian buffet. I would say the prices are fair. We ordered and have gone back quite a few times. We've had farewell lunches, retirement lunches and reunion lunches there. Every time I've gone there, people in the group want to go back. The ambiance is nice, food is great and employees are helpful. The manager is very helpful and will spend some time to talk to you. We found out they grind their own spices which is probably why the food is soooo tasteful. It excites all your taste buds and you leave with a full stomach. Chicken tandoori takes a little longer to make. They make their foods at the time you order; rather than make it beforehand. I think that's another secret of theirs, food is made fresh instead of sitting and heating again. The only dish I wouldn't have is anything with shrimp. I've had a couple dishes and while all gave you enough shrimps, it was very tough. They overcooked it most of the time. Food are all appetizing and look salivating and amazing. They have such beautiful cups and dishes, must be from India. It is a small space so it doesn't sit many people. You can't reserve a table if you have a big group going there. Will definitely go again!

In the heart of the central village, where NYU fast food and drink rules is mirch masala. outstanding indian food. the nan and garlic nan are fresh and delicious. the Chicken tikka masala is tender and tasty. mango lassi couldn't be better. the chicken samosa's are a must try. fughettabout little india on e7th street where all the food is trapped in a race to the bottom. mirch masala is way above the rest.

I went with family for a well deserved meal in this very well known and highly regarded restaurant. Upon entering, it was spotless, busy and filled with the fragrant aromas of fine Indian cuisine. Our service was impeccable, both fast and with perfectly cooked and flavored dishes. From Chicken Tikka, to Samosas, to perfect Papadam, EVERYTHING was delicious. Our whole party wishes to send a very special thank you to Mimi for her most gracious hospitality. This is a BRILLIANT restaurant, and we will most certainly be back!

What a gem of a place this is, smelling the food on the way past dragged us in and are we glad it did! I wont go in to great detail but there were four of us, so we shared one appetizer then ordered four main courses with four alcoholic beverages, total cost $73- you just cant beat it, and we had leftovers we couldn't take with us :( The food was absolutely delicious and the staff were amazing, I would be a regular here if I lived in NYC! We will be back for sure.

went here with an Indian friend who knows everything about Indian food, including regional culinary differences. Even he was happy at the end. This place is good, clean, I mean perhaps not too special but the food is pretty decent, especially the eggplant dishes. The staff are polite, overall we were happy

Delicious food and good prices. I just wish it would say spicy next to things that are spicy. I also wish you could buy vegetable sides at dinner, although the lunch with the veg sides is enough and excellent and seems to be available all day.

Very good Indian restaurant in NYC. Very affordable price. Good environment. Good service. Delicious Indian food with good flavors and spices.

I was a bit apprehensive when I saw the "B" sanitation grade in the window, and it's true that walking in, one can suddenly feel transported far away from Macdougal Street (not entirely in a bad way). Even the water is served in more traditional cups (and served cool, without ice), so the place has a bit of an international feel. The staff are extremely kind and attentive, and while the food was extremely plentiful and flavorful, it wasn't particularly interesting: just a pretty solid version of typical Indian fare. I did not have a dosa this time, but they did seem to be more carefully-made than the naan or the samosas. I would return if I really needed a nearby fix, but for higher-quality fare, I'd try someplace else.

Thirty dollars was well spent here. Only problem was we had to leave some wonderful food on our plates as the portions are generous. We are only in town 5 days but may be back!

First off, let me say, this is truly one of the best meals I've had! The restaurant is located in the West Village, in close proximity to Washington Square Park, and Mirch Masala is also very clean and hospitable. We ordered: Bombay Fish Masala (Soul w/a Curry Sauce), Chicken Vindaloo, Garlic Naan, and Basmati Rice. The portions were huge and the food was spicy like we like it! However, I'm sure you could ask for a less-spicy preparation. The fish was not fishy and the sauce was wonderful, same case with the Vindaloo. The Garlic Naan is the best you'll find in the country and is fluffy and delightful. The price was great at about $34 with Tax and Tip!

We were tired. The restaurant was tiny and attended to the students nearby. The waiter was very polite and friendly and helpful. My husband had sour and I had a chicken spinach dish -- saag -- it was two weeks ago, a lot has happened.... Fast, delicious. A wonderful treasure if you are hungry.

I was sooo not in the mood to eat indian food but my butter chicken aficianado friend dragged me here. The restaurant was crowded when I walked in and I smiled inside knowing that we won't get a seat but since we were only two the waitress pointed us ahead of the line of a waiting group and my smile turned into a groan - so much for a chance of meatballs and spaghetti instead of butter chicken on my plate :/ The first thing I noticed was that the staff was very quick and attentive. They filled our glasses with water and asked us about our drink order. We ordered the mango lassi and told them that we were ready to order (since we know Indian food menus like the back of our hands). We ordered the butter chicken and reshami kabob along with plain and garlic naan. Our server was quick to point out to us that he will send out one naan and will refill our basket with hot and piping naans once the basket finish because he did not want our naans to get cold (gold star for the thoughtful gesture). I barely took a few bites because I was'nt really hungry but the food was pretty good and flavorful. The rest of the food was packed up to serve as breakfast for the next day but ended up being dinner for a homeless man who struck up a conversation with us. All's well that ends well.

Very accommodating staff, delicious food and very clean environment. We were looking for halal food, so when we went in and inquired about the meat being halal or not, the hostess (forgot to ask her name) assured us that chicken was halal. Later on the chef himself came to bear witness that the chicken was halal and he himself being a Muslim eats that same chicken. That was a very good gesture considering that we had already started eating and were not leaving or anything. They said that they wanted us to eat with peace of mind. Amazing! Highly recommend this place!

I usually get the lunch special. So far I've had the traditional chicken curry with chana and the chicken tikka masala with potatoes. Both were AWESOME !!! I also tried their nan bread and it was warm and baked to perfection. The restaurant itself is "intimate" [read small] and has about 6 tables seating from 2 to 4 people. Staff are very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend.

I had a wonderful meal here today. I ordered the Bhaigan Bharata (Eggplant curry). They didn't have pooris on the menu (those big puffy breads), but I asked if it would be possible to order one. I received the biggest poori I've ever seen (and I've seen many). The eggplant dish could not have been more delicious and satisfying. I couldn't finish the poori, though I tried my best as it was so light and well-cooked.

Our expectations weren't too high walking into this cute little place in quiet Greenwich Village, Manhattan. We is me and my Indian wife with family. We have tried many Indian places and never found any one outstanding. The more we were surprised when we got our dishes. Palak paneer, vindaloo chicken, dal makhani, butter naan, roti, chole, radjma, papardam. All beautifully cooked to perfection!!! My wife owned an Indian restaurant so she knows about Indian food and how much work it is to prepare some of the dishes. We were so happy and will visit this place every time we come to NYC. Don't forget to finish of the meal with their fabulous mango lassie. We promise you won't be disappointed.

The Chicken Tikka Masala offers a rich, full taste. It's sweet and savoury and hits you in all the right places. The garlic naan bread is a must to compliment!

I was browsing the village and got in the mood for a hot drink. It was late night and ordered a masala chai and a kashimri naan. Got them in no time and was offered a cup of curry free of charge. The food was good and the people genuinely friendly. The only negative note is they didn't take my credit card. Not sure if it's because the charge was small (less than $10) or they just don't accept plastic payments.

We visited Mirch Masala recently in ine if our business visit to New York, and we were looking for some good options around Hudson street in Midtown Manhattan. Mirch Masala did not disappoint at all and we enjoyed the food. It's a small restaurant at Macdougal street, and may not be good for very large groups, since space is limited. But the food is excellent and that comes with verify fast service and now staff. You will enjoy.

We called in without a booking and we're delighted with the friendly service. My chicken Korma was v good as I find spicy food a problem My husbands Rogan Gosh look great and he said it was good. We went on Thursday night where they have a special deal for 3 courses and this exceptionally good value.

Ordered Dosa with Masala yesterday through Delivery.com to my hotel. The masala gave a foul smell and on carefully examining the packet.. Realized that the masala was giving out the stale odor.. It was probably cooked several hours ago OR several day ago.. So I will never order from this place. I am planning to report this to the New York Dept of Health - Food Safety dept. Stale food will cause serious stomach problems. Luckily I realized this before I ate too much !!!

I found this place accidentally. I was looking for a new place to eat in the neighborhood. Decent food, decent prices. Will visit them again.
Really average food
The place is pretty tiny. Though staff is friendly, the food tasted really average. Dal makhani was okay but paneer was literally made of ketchup and tomato puree. The dish size is good for two people.
