Outstanding

By MadChileanScientist |

No need for words. You have to try it. The place was packed. But I was alone and sat at the bar in no time. I ordered a popular sushi taster, amazing. Probably the best sushi I ever had in NYC, close to Tokyo quality. Highly recommend it!

Wonderful food and experience

By beighner |

Modern atmosphere, great service, and fantastic food. Even a surprise celebrity sighting. Great experience and highly recommendable.

Do not miss !

By Marie đź–¤ |

We had a great time. These are the best sushi we have eaten so far. A pure delight. Everything is done in front of you, the staff is super pleasant. I recommend !!!

Could do it better

By MexTraveler6 |

Momoya is one of those NY restaurants that have everything to be a top star, yet they prefer to let it rest because... service is declining, food is not so great (at an average USD 120/person you are not entitled to a "don't have it right now"), and the sound level is obnoxiously disturbing (100+ chelsea new yorks yelling at 8PM in a closed space). Hope they can turn it around, since they were one of my favourites sushi spots in NY and did mind that they had a no reservations policy.

Best sushi I have had

By Tom T |

After eating sushi at places recommended on the web, I read about this place in a magazine. Some lady said that she goes there once a week. Its sounded interesting so we decided to try it. I had CHEF’S SELECTION OF TODAY’S BEST, the best sushi I have ever had. I know I’m repeating myself but I have been to at least two Michelin sushi places and Momoya is in my opinion better than those. I will go again.

Great food, busy atmosphere.

By Mary F |

Went there early one evening for dinner, it was excellent. Busy with business people and families. Everything that we ordered came promptly and was very good. I would recommend highly. My only minor complaint was that my card was swiped twice and it took a few days to rectify. Staff should be more careful but overall it was a restaurant that I would return to.

Great

By Carlos M |

Great price!! Sushi is lovely. Well presented, big portions!! Chicken teriyaki was amazing and the tempura spectacular Great price and lovely place.

Sure bet

By Allan |

Fresh creative sushi. Crispy rice roll a must. Very minimalist space, small but good vibe. Servers are professional, friendly and sincere. Quick service but not rushed. There's always a line at the door for good reason. Don't miss. Bring your wallet because you'll need it

Best Japanese in Chelsea

By Margeritta |

Could not resist going there the first night we arrived. Cannot book but wait is not long. Great food . Noisy and busy restaurant. Try all their specialist sushi’s very good cannot fault this restaurant. Starter tacos also excellent .

Fun Spot

By Jeremy T |

Momoya is across the street from my daughters apartment and she would not eat there unless it was good food. I like their sushi as well as their hoy entrees. It is an attractive restaurant with attentive service. At times there is a wait, but usually not too long. Reasonable prices.

Could improve the noise in restaurant

By Sander_Yoho |

Excellent sushi. It was full, but with the two of us we only needed to wait for 5 minutes (the said 10). We got a table at the window. We had great teriyaki chicken and rolls. When looking what others got, it all looked great. It tasted very good. Also the service is excellent. They poor free water continuously. The only thing is that I had difficulty to have a good conversation. We had to shout to hear each other. I think this could easily be solved if the put something on the walls at the front. That would probably help a lot.

Favorite NYC sushi spot

By NicMoraXO |

One of my favorite sushi spots in New York! I love this place. They don’t take reservations so be prepared to wait for a little but it’s worth it. The tuna tortilla, spicy tuna crispy rice, and tuna avocado are amazing. Their salmon sushi is so fresh as well. If you’re into spicy mayo, Momoya has one of the best spicy mayos I’ve ever had

Packed to the rafters

By k747 |

I was looking for a place to eat and I noticed how packed this restaurant was: a good sign that the food is good. I propped myself up at the bar and ordered the 8 piece sushi platter with 6 tuna rolls. It was ever so fresh and tasty I left a very happy customer.

The first time I came here was decent but not their dinner

By EY_GlobeTrekker |

The first time I came here for lunch, I’d have rated it 4 star for their Chirashi and service. But this visit, an hour before closing, was extremely disappointing. The waitress who took the order was rushing me, even though I ordered way before last call and closing. She was dismissive and threw the sushi plate down rather than placing it down. Far worst than a diner wait staff would when underpaid. The special roll’s rice was soggy and I consider the roll unnecessarily having cucumber that took away the flavor of the raw fish. The $23 small sake was way overpriced for what I got at a high end Japanese businessmen late night hour venue. Not returning here ever for dinner. Intended for those who don’t know how real sushi ought to taste like. Coming from someone who just visited Japan, this place is very commercialized and not authentic.

A Gem in Chelsea for Broad Offering of Japanese Cuisine

By Stella S |

Had a great dinner there before an off-broadway theatre near by. This is more than a sushi restaurant, offerings include a broad array of Japanese noodles, tempura as well as sushi. We went early around 6 pm and were seated promptly. Good Sake selection and very helpful staff in terms of recommendations. We had the cold soba with tempura and i had the chirashi, both dishes were excellent. While we did not have dessert, the offerings were also broad and truly Japanese original. We will return and try more dishes. It does get crowded around 7 pm as we had lines of people waiting. Prices are reasonable for the high quality.

You can trust the reviews you read about this popular place for Japanese fare

By ___Dr__J0Hn___ |

Having read the excellent reviews on Tripadvisor about Momoya, I decided to give it a try. The experience was very satisfying. The restaurant was already in full swing at 6.30 in the evening, and dining alone, I agreed to be seated at the bar. That was a great choice. It felt like I had the best seat in the house. Watching the sushi chefs ply their craft was fascinating and entertaining. The service was fast, efficient and friendly. The food was outstanding. I had the yellowtail sashimi to start followed by the Chicken Terriaki. Both were superb, and servings very generous. i will be returning to this place often I think, and I unreservedly recommend you try it. Sit at the bar and enjoy the whole show!

Back after five years. Good, but not good as it used to be

By Yaron G |

The joint is noisy and lively as always, though the crowd seems less chic (or maybe its me turning a grumpy old fart). Dishes are on the pricey side of this neighborhood. Miso, agedashi and sushi rolls were ok. No more, no less. I was after a bikram yoga class, so i guess everything seems better. After the big snowstorm i was yearning for some spring, so- The special sushi shrimp spring roll (wrapped in rice paper) was fairly good, but the sweet chili sauce, was an industrial one, right out a bottle you'd buy in gristedes. The lobster spring roll was even worst. It was far away from light spring, with heavy oily crust, and i got to bite some lobster shell in there. And the sauce again, right out of an off-the-shelf bottle. Dissapointing. At 1045pm on a thursday night they shoved the bill in front of me without iffering tea or dessert. Pity. Used to be a cool place.

Go for very good Japanese cuisine............

By lfbmonkey |

We went for lunch and enjoyed the sushi & sashimi. To us, it is all about the fish, presentation, and quality, & Momoya has it all! Appetizer of a lobster taco was tasty, as well as the eggplant. Server was very good and attentive.

Delicious food.

By Ru_07_01 |

The place has nothing special, but the waitresses are really nice and the food is amazing. I personally recommend "Crispy Rice". Yummy.

Foodgasmic!

By debi1rn |

I was in the mood for noodles and this place was within walking distance from my hotel. What a gem!! I echo the accolades of the other reviewers. I ordered my udon, sitting at the sushi bar, which was exactly what I wanted. The lady next to me got this tuna taco appetizer and raves. I had to try it. It was AMAZING! All was great! The wait staff was efficient and kind. The sushi chefs were great to watch too. I will definitely return!

Great place for mother daughter lunch

By Denny S |

My daughter, step-daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here. We highly recommend the Tempura shrimp and vegetables Tuna sushi Salmon avocado rolls Quiet and pleasant atmosphere at lunch time. Beautiful, clean presentation of the food.

Great sushi

By dbeniamino |

Crowdy, nice sushi, fantastic value, nice people, quick service. For the sushi lovers in the City a place to go.

one of the best

By courtneydanl |

Good service, fresh sushi. worth the 45 mins wait during dinner time. so be sure to get there early.

Great lunch...

By samiventi |

I was worried I didn't have enough time, apparently I was worried for nothing. At 12pm I walked in, got a seat at the bar... glass of wine in hand within a few minutes, food in front of me in about 10 minutes. The bar was clean, sushi chef's were smiling, I really enjoyed my visit for a quick solo lunch. Whenever I try a new sushi restaurant, I always order a spicy tuna roll, and I really liked it here. I had a lunch box that came with miso, the soup was good and i enjoyed all 3 rolls. Wine was decent, check was reasonable... overall, very happy and will likely be back. Also, they had windows that opened up to outside, so lively dining room. Booths and tables can accommodate a group, I'd consider heading back with coworkers in the future.

Yummy sushi!

By LeidsHertje |

As a sushi lover, this was a great find. Tasty sushi and sashimi & the staff was very nice! We couldn't make a reservation, but we put our name on the list. Result: when we came back after 30 minutes, we got a table almost instantly, despite the long queue! Loved that night :)

Great fusion Sushi

By Manuel33Esp |

The sushi style it's very interesting because it's a mix between Japanese Sushi and South American flavors. I love the Tuna tortilla with truffle oil, the makarel sashimi and the spicy tuna roll. Very nice ambience. Just remember that there's is usually a long line and they don't take reservations. Prices a little too high, but I?ll be back.

Best affordable sushi in the city

By Flo2lux |

Unfortunately no reservations but this place is exceptional in terms of quality /price especially at lunch. Don’t expect something fancy but just great jap food with a correct service.

Excellent place for lunch

By BaronOT |

Great quality food and we were seated quite quickly with no more than a few minutes wait. Our main course was a bit delayed so I suggest to take your time while visiting this place when the lunchtime much hour hits. When the food arrives it is very good and supports the (lengthy) wait. If you are in the area do not hesitate.

Awesome surprise, great sushi

By Winedog64 |

While visiting NY, looked up sushi places to try. Momoya had a good rating so decided to give it a try. I showed up at 5:30pm and there was only one other person there. My first thought was oh oh, did I make a mistake? However the waiter assured me that tihis was a good pick. Within an hour, the place was packed and a line to get seated. The waiter highly recommended the the WAKAME & CUCUMBER ume soy vinaigrette salad to start and it was fantastic. The salad was light and refreshing and the soy vinaigrette complimented well with the Saporo. Yes, the beer actually went well with it. The Nakamura roll and Chirashi were also very excellent. Highly recommended and will go back.

Awesome meal

By Jonathan C |

I had the salmon bento and it was really good. They served pretty good food at reasonable prices. This is a great sushi restaurant. Small and bustling with lots of people waiting to be seated. You can however enjoy a beverage of your choice while waiting. The food is very much worth the wait. The space is modern. I will definitely return back.

Great Japanese food that isn't exorbitantly priced

By artemis_98 |

Great food. Casual setting. Staff very gracious with our young kids. I Would definitely return for the more sophisticated dinner menu. We went for lunch and ordered off the lunch menu.

Outstanding sushi

By Aviv R |

Really excellent sushi. Very good selection of sake and wine and the sushi is unique - delicate and very fresh.

Quality food, Efficient Service, Reasonable price, but OH the noise level!

By ArtsyGalBaltimore |

Noisy, noisy, noisy, did I say it was noisy. Under the age of 30's able to converse with the pounding beat of music. Food was fabulous, making the noisy level bearable. Reasonably priced given the high quality and efficient, pleasant service. Try the spicy shrimp, sushi/sashimi plate excellent. Great value and highly recommend. Perhaps lunch brings value , quality and noise reduction.

Finally Found Excellent Sushi at a Decent Price

By Peregrine426 |

My wife and I happened to be walking by and decided to stop in for lunch. Very pleasant and competent service. Chirashi was top notch! My wife had the salmon and avocado on rice which she enjoyed. Highly reccoemend

Fresh Sushi and Great Service

By Woah |

A friend and I stopped in last week last minute and were accommodated almost immediately. It was close to closing and we got the corner booth in the back which we love. We had hot and cold saki, Crispy Rice Roll, a really nice Spicy Crispy Shrimp appetizer, and they even let us customize a roll. Then we shared the Sashimi entree. It was the perfect amount of food and so so so fresh. It was a wonderful end to the day and we cannot wait to go back.

Before Seven is Heaven Rule

By Shaun |

This is an NYC hotspot that I was told typically has lineups out the door and around the corner. For good reason. The sushi is phenomenal and Momoya does not take reservations. We got there just before 7:00 PM on a Friday night and were seated within 15 minutes, while others who arrived shortly after us were still waiting for a seat an hour later. I think it helped that we ordered a bottle of wine while we waited... Go for the CRISPY RICE spicy tuna roll with shiitake mushroom and jalapeno. It's "last meal on earth" amazing.

Worth trying

By Jeremy T |

I have been to this location as well as the uptown location. I enjoy getting the tempura special which is quite a large portion of food. My companion and I shared some sushi which was also very good. Reasonably priced for what you get. Good service.

Fantastic food and service

By ML2424 |

Very busy on arrival- we hadn’t booked but the team managed to get us a table in around 20 mins. Staff were lovely and helpful. Food was fantastic, would 100% eat here again!

Food was very and well prepared!

By BJ111 |

We had walked passed Momoya one evening and thought we would check it out. Food was surprisingly good and were well prepared. The Spider Roll and the Chirashi Sushi were both very good. Prices were reasonable. Would go back again.

Not Jason Momoa there but still good sushi

By Amanda M |

We entered since the name is like that sexy actor, of course he was not there xoxo so we got the sushi instead, and they have nice uramaki roll's with fresh and finally soft avocado which is the problem of most of the restaurants worldwide.

Excellent sushi and the best agedashi tofu I've had in ages

By Drusilla L |

We went for lunch and arrived just in time to sit down before people starting lining up for tables. The service was friendly and excellent. The food was really really good! What can I say? It was all good. Perhaps it was a bit noisy, because the restaurant was packed with people, so perhaps not the best choice if you're hard of hearing, but our table had no trouble chatting. BTW, I love love love sushi, so I eat it alot. This sushi is among the best I've had in NYC.

Really like the food. Really like the atmosphere

By AmyC723 |

Went as a foursome Saturday night and had a splendid meal. The mixed green salad is more interesting than most Japanese restaurants and a slightly larger portion than at most. Edamame were perfectly prepared and delicious. We all had sushi which each of us loved. The decor is cool. The walls and ceiling have horizontally places wood pieces as "wall covering" with the same placed vertically in the rear of the restaurant. Gives a very organic yet classy feel to the restaurant. The miso cod is a stand out. Service is solid. Only negative is that they don't take reservations. A few outside tables are available also.

Good sushis

By Jean-Yves Girard |

Went for late dinner last night. Sushis were fresh and nicely presented. Had yellow tail roll, spider roll, few pieces (Arctic char was excellent), shrimps with heads, sea urchins. Staff was very friendly too ! Definitely recommend this place.

Good Sushi and Sashimi in Chelsea

By Rjsorrenti |

The food is very tasty and presented nicely . The restaurant is popular so its gets crowded and loud, but the food is worth it. Had the sashimi lunch special and was very pleased with the freshness of the food. Would go back again.

Great food, worth going to

By Ivan H |

Really good food, had a selection of rolls all of which were excellent. The black cod was delicious and the shumai were super. The gyoza were not the best but that was the only blemish on otherwise very good food. The service was fine, i.e. they kept our water glasses filled and brought our food. They were not rude but then again not particularly welcoming.

Yummmm

By deb c |

Wanting something lighter for dinner this night we went to momoya and glad we did. Tempura platter a hit. Sushi platter a hit. Goyoza a hit. And a nice big bottle of Sapporo to wash it down. Great service Recommend highly

Perfect

By Danny E |

The sushi was great. Great value for money. The best place I ate in until now in NY. We took the menu combinations for lunch and every thing that was served was on the spot.

Good, but overpriced, sushi

By Sarah O |

Momoya is a trendy spot with good food. Biggest complaint is how over-priced it is. I understand that some of the more experimental roles would be pricey, but the basic roles should be 30% cheaper.

Seriously? The b.e.s.t!

By MsQ_1215 |

Honestly, I think Momoya in Chelsea beats the pantaloons off all of the well-known sushi spots around the city- by a mile! The fish is insanely fresh, the staff is friendly (Rudy at the sushi bar is a pleasure!), and the atmosphere is simply great- though, know that it can be CROWDED. (Hey, if people are willing to wait 45 minutes for a table where reservations aren't taken, you KNOW they're doing something right.) Menu highlights: their edamame ricotta dumplings in a light truffle broth, the fluke usuzukuri, and seared scallop on brown rice are among my favorites! Momoya even turned my non sushi-eating husband into a fan!

Great value Japanesse

By LolaCam |

Best sushi rolls, my favorites: black dynamite and salmon crunchy! It is usually pretty busy so is a good idea to book in advance or if you don't mind eating at the bar it is usually a couple of minutes wait!

Very tasty Japanese

By Warwick S |

We were lucky to get in without waiting but the line soon built up. It is worth waiting for. The food is very good especially the rolls. Service is good too.

Rock Shrimp and many outstanding sushi rolls, No Reservations

By atlagunabeach |

Rock shrimp and Shrimp and Chicken appetizer were great appetizers. We ordered 4 different sushi rolls, my favorite was the Black Dynamite which had spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, cucumber and avocado. Miso soup was a typical soup, nothing special. This place gets busy and doesn't take reservations so get there early.

Good japanese

By loulou1501 |

Always full. Better book a table! Great japanese, small plates, better order sushis plates after. Service was a little bit awful ! the japanese waitress was unpleasant !

Delicious sushi & sashimi!

By jonahNJ |

My wife and I met up with my nephews and niece for dinner at Momoya Chelsea on the recommendation of my nephew. The recommendation was spot on. We arrived fairly early and were able to be seated right away. Our timing was perfect; by 6:30 the restaurant was very busy and stayed busy with a line of people waiting to be seated. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. I started with a bowl of miso, which was nice and hot and full of flavor. It had just the right amount of tofu and scallions. It was very welcome on a cold Saturday night in February. for my entree, I had the sushi and sashimi platter as well as an order of uni (sea urchin) sushi. This entree tasted just as good as it looked. The sashimi in particular was the perfect temperature, the perfect sized and just melted in my mouth. The uni sushi was a generous bite--next time I return, I must order more uni! This was a nice dining experience and we never felt rushed as we caught up and enjoyed a delicious sushi dinner. Well done Momoya Chelsea!

Excellent Sushi in Chelsea

By frograk |

Momoya has the quality sushi you would expect from the midtown or downtown high end sushi restaurants, very rare in Chelsea. The sushi and rolls are their best dishes. The toro offerings are fresh and melt in your mouth and the other dishes such as the chicken donburi (a bit too dry), the chicken, beef, and salmon teriyaki (also a bit dry) are better than average but not top notch. Shumai is served differently from other restaurants and have more dough than usual. Always very crowded which makes sense given the scarcity of this quality of sushi in the area.

Delicious Authentic Japanese

By Kelseyweeks |

The miso soups that we had were delicious, also the edamame and ricotta dumplings - a must have! The sushi was phenomenal!! Must try the Boston Roll and the Naknamara (can’t remember exact spelling). Our waiter was attentive and the food all came out in very good timing. Most foods go well with a glass of Pinot Grigio as well! Highly recommend.

Great casual dinner

By Tor |

Tried the fried nudles and liked it a lot. The restaurant was compact and nice, with friendly personnel who was fast to accommodate us. Definitely a place worth revisiting.

Great Menu and Atmosphere

By Richard |

Momoya has good pricing on their sushi, sashimi, and rolls. The service was quick, and the waiting time wasn't too long.

Delicious

By X375IEelizabethg |

This place is ALWAYS really busy, but unfortunately doesn't take reservations. The food is great and the service is pretty quick. Highly recommend the crunchy rice sushi roll.

Best sushi in the city!

By aidan h |

Momoya is a fantastic sushi restaurant! It gets crowded extremely fast so make sure to get there fast! My favorite thing there is the chicken katsu and the sticky rice! All the dishes there are great but those are my favorite. There sushi is also amazing. This place is a must go!

Best sushi/shashimi in ages!

By JillConnecticut |

Beautifully displayed fresh sushi that you can't resist. Next time I will definitely get the crispy rice with spicy tunas that every table ordered. Friendly service and nice cool ambiance. We sat at the kitchen bar to watch the chefs but the counter prevents you from seeing their work.

Best sushi in Chelsea & family friendly !! Do not miss it!

By JetSetJessa |

This is one of my fav sushi spots to visit when I am in Chelsea... There are countless items to recommend but I would say the tuna tortilla and sticky rice cannot be missed! If you are a fan of sashimi the toro is the best in the city! Hot sake is fabulous and service is wonderful! I bring my 1 year old and even she loves it! Just fabulous in every way! Do not miss this place!!

“one of the best”

By Sandra M |

If you go to NY you got to go Momoya, is the best in Japanese food, excellent service. I recommend the "tuna tortilla" is super delicious. All prepared with the best quality. It is located in the best area of Chelsea. They do not take reservations, there are many people waiting. In that restaurant we celebrate 32 years of marriage.

Very good food, too fast service....

By MtheSwede |

Visited with family on a weekday. Food was delishious. We had both sushi, chicken, eel and black cod. All cooked to perfection. But the service was rushed and stressful. Main courses came before we had finished the starters and noone seemed to care. The check was handed to us without even a question if we wanted any dessert or alike and the restaurant was not full and there was no queue. The good food saved them from a three star review...

Solid Sushi Experience

By Fat Face Eats |

Great high(ish) end neighborhood vibe(ish) sushi restaurant. Service and atmosphere are home runs. Take your girl friend here on a Thursday night because it is much better then eating fries at a pub when you don't feel like cooking at the end of the week. Food was overall on point for the price. Cant go wrong with the Pork Buns and Shishito Peppers as starters. Check out @fatfaceeats on IG for pictures and more reviews

Excellent sashimi

By Steveo_Mogryo |

Stopped here for dinner on my birthday. Service was incredibly fast, we were seated in 5 minutes. The Sashimi special dinner was spectacular- do not miss this! The regular sashimi dinner was forgettable. We ordered the mushroom soup and wakame and cucumber salad- both excellent. Enjoy!

Reasonable prices for good Japanese food

By Heeyoung Lee |

I had the salmon bento and it was really good. They served pretty good food at reasonable prices.

I would give it 5 stars

By HubbellGardiner |

The food was good. We all got the bento boxes, one with sushi, one with sashimi and the other with teriyaki. Everything was good (I wasn't crazy about the tempura but I seemed to be the exception.) What marred the experience was the waiter trying to pick up every plate as fast as possible spilled beet juice on my white t-shirt and barely apologized. They are in such a rush to move the table that when you are finished they move in to take the plate and barely ask if you are finished. Doesn't make for a relaxing experience

Fresh and Perfect!!!

By Cecilia L |

Went for dinner with my mom, I must say I'm a sushi lover and this place is amazing! The place is cosi, modern and beautiful! Service amazing!!!! Food delicious, sĂşper fresh and delicious sashimi, great and tastefull sushi and the miso black cod just beautiful! And the best, the prices are really low!!! Defenetly going back!

Delicious food and great staff

By Tore Gunnar C |

The place to go if you want great sushi . Nice harmony amongst the staff which was reflected in great teamwork. The food was served and presented in a delicate way. The food tasted delicious. We’ll be back.

Amazing!

By Wonderlandddd |

Luckily there was a place at the bar for me so I didn't have to join those already waiting for a table. Service was prompt and courteous. Watching the dining area, all tables seem to be for 2. Food was delicious. Starting with the ceviche salad that was so refreshing while being spicy, then 2 sushi rolls. Presentation is very nice as well. I had the month house sake and also a nigori. Couldn't resist trying their green tea ice cream - perfect!

MY GO TO PLACE IN CHELSEA

By Jeremy T |

I had dinner here last night, there was a little bit of a wait. The hostess (Stella)was most pleasant and I noticed she was keeping an eye on the room to make sure all was going well. I started with the real crab California roll which was as good as any I've ever had, for my entrée I had the Tempura Tasting, three shrimp, one scallop, one piece of fish, and chock full of vegetables. A good size dish, beautifully prepared and delicious. Our server was most attentive and cheerful. A pretty place with reasonable prices, No reservations.but definitely worth the wait. All in all a very enjoyable dinner, I will return.

Fantastic

By crazyguide |

Amazing variety, creativity and quality of sushi sashimi... I'm sure you can come over and over again, yet still discover new ones and be amazed... Will come back for sure! Don't know about the other locations in NY, but that one with its super active open kitchen is a must go place for sure!

Momoya sushi

By Tomnny |

Good sushi. Good service. Young crowd. Noisy. Reasonable prices. Reservations not accepted, so you might be in for a long wait.

Best sushi restaurant in NYC

By Michele H |

Great sushi and good selection of cooked dishes. Amazing desserts. Have the green tea crepes. The appetisers are really creative and different for a Japanese restaurant.

Birthday Bliss!

By Lea C |

This is a GREAT birthday spot - for friends or family. I came here for my 21st birthday with my Mom, and we ordered an array of sushi, the Nakamura, Lobster, Salmon Crunchy and Fresh Spring rolls. The dessert was a WOW moment - molten chocolate lava cake with green tea ice cream and Mochi. If you want a sushi-birthday experience, this is the place!

Sushi in Chelsea

By Antaurcelo |

The place is small and a bit noisy. We had room without booking. Original and well made sushi (special mention to rainbow roll) and a reasonable addition at the end. The staff is smiling and attentive. They agreed at the end of the service to cut off the air conditioning that we found polar... Frankly, Best Value Award for Manhattan.

Fantastic japenes restaurant with brillant food and low prices

By Energyseeker |

This is a fantastic place for dinner, but you might have to face a waiting line as they do not take reservations. But waiting was not a problem, we were in good company and the food was outstanding and the prices more than fair! 168 USD for 4 people including drinks, starters and main courses. Would come back here again and again. The food is authentic, fresh and nicely presented! Wonderful!

One of the BEST Sushis I ahve ever had!

By pamselem |

Very trendy restaurant. It is always crowded, and people are willing to wait 40 minutes or more to be seated. The sushi is so fresh and delicious that it melts in your mouth, making you ask for more and more. The appetizers are also very original and delicious. The service is great despite how crowded the place is. I highly recommend going there when you have a craving for sushi. You will not regret it, and will want to come back for sure!

Incredible Delicious Sushi!

By skylinelady |

They don't take reservations but it's well worth the wait. Definitely get the Crispy Rice Rolls and Black Dynamite Rolls. Soooo yummy! Order as a hot appetizer the Edamame. Amazing venue. Amazing service. Incredible food!! My favorite Japanese place in NYC. Highly recommended. Open hours every day 12:00-14:30 & 17:30-22:30

A weather report

By psprague |

I few months ago I wrote a favorable review about Momoya where I dine 2-3 x per month. However about 4 weeks ago NYC had a typhoon warning with horizontal rain and 30- 45 mph wind that started about 5 PM. Momoya iis about 4 blocks from our apartment and I concluded that the rain would discourage anyone from going out. Momoya always has a crowd waiting to get in by 1215pm for lunch and 620pm for dinner. We struggled through the storm and arrived at Momoya at 715pm. There was the usual crowd with a 30 minute + wait. We went nearby to Le Zie. I consider this a supporting review to my original. If the neighborhood cares as much about Momoya as they demonstrated during a raging storm - they must be doing something right - and they are !

Really good food for a good price.

By Rachael M |

Good food, good service. I had the spicy yellowtail roll and the salmon avocado roll, both were great. The edamame was delicious as well. I shared a bottle of Proseco among three others, and it was a really good price. Recommend if you're in Chelsea looking for sushi.

Good sushi

By Stefano |

The place is usually crowded and you better reserve a table. The sushi was really good with various and particular rolls. Nice atmosphere as well. Quick service and good price.

nice place

By Yjyj2 |

Had lunch with a friend and we had limited time, but service was quick, food was good and not too noisy either.

Freshest Sushi and Sashimi

By Elaine L |

Loved this place so much we went twice! It was the freshest and best tasting sushi I have ever had. The lunch specials are good value. I will make a point of returning next time that I am in NYC.

Decent sushi in a noisy environment where you're packed in like sardines

By Stephen M S |

Decent sushi where you're packing in tight like sardines in a can. Not much room to wait inside the restaurant so you're waiting on the sidewalk. Service is perfunctory at best, environment is extremely loud, crowd is mainly young, pricing is decent as sushi pricing goes.

Fantastic japanese restaurant!

By elizabethParisFrance |

Sushi is shushi and then theees Momoya! Excellant combos & boxes to enjoy. It does get very loud inside but its worth putting up with the noise!

A “bowl” standard

Sushi, bowls and tempura; all are excellent! The dumplings were unique and excellent, not your traditional wrapper but noodles wrapped around delicious fillings. All seafood was fresh and tasty.

First Class Japanese in Chelsea

By Hugh |

Very good and creative Japanese food in Chelsea. The place was really hopping on Friday night - lots of people, and noisy. The food was great and that's what counts. The service was attentive.

Service matches the food EXCELLENT!!!

By jeromenewyorkcity |

By far the best sushi in Chelsea I eat here at least twice per week And never get tired, the staff is friendly and professional I even took a picture but having trouble downloading

8 happy campers

By DJMXX |

This was my third visit and I can't believe I haven't recommended it yet. The food is amazing (all the sushi and sashimi are fresh and delicious; also highly recommend the miso cod and the cooked salmon). They don't take reservations for lunch even for big groups but if you get there by 12:20 for lunch, you'll be fine. It always gets packed so is on the noisy side but well worth it!

Amazing Japanese food!

By SueBnyc |

I've eaten Japanese food for decades in NYC and this is one of the best in the city! They don't take reservations - for a reason (it's so popular) - so plan for a wait or go early to beat the crowd. They're coming because the food is so very very good! The soft shell crabs are some of the best I've every had in a long career of eating in restaurants. I've been there 3 times and each time was great. When it gets busy, however, the acoustics can be daunting. The service has been very good and people are friendly and kind. Highly recommended!

Can never go wrong

Once again the crispy rice role was amazing. I could easily get addicted. Good selection of fish on the sushi sashimi combo. Always fresh.

Box lunch

By Tomer M |

Sat at the bar, 5 friendly and welcoming sushi chefs are working. Ordered Japanese beer and the Salmon Tempura Box lunch. It comes with refreshing miso soup, the fish are very fresh and presentation is simple yet delicious. Shrimp tempura was heaven, the roll was great, chicken ball were perfect and the salad dressing is one of my favorites. The salmon though came too dry, over uncooked sweet potatoes, yet, great experience and I will defiantly come back. 16$ plus 6 for the beer.

Go early for easy seating

By MSH444 |

They open for dinner at 5:30 and fill up pretty quickly. They don't take reservations and your party must be complete to be seated. The service is excellent. Friendly. Attentive. Perfect place to eat if you have 8:00 pm tickets on Broadway since it's a short subway ride away. (Just tell your server what time you'd like to leave.) The food is delicious and the presentation is beautiful. The space has lots of natural light and the ambiance is perfect for enjoying great food and conversation.

OMG - JAPANESE FOOD HEAVEN

By Louise B |

to dinner before the Gotham Comedy Club, round the corner. went at a very busy time but TOTALLY worth the wait. the food was sensational. the atmosphere is alive and buzzy but not over the top intrusive. has sashimi - fresh, fresh, fresh. everyone else's plates looked amazing. my son devoured his entire meal before I even got a taste! cannot recommend highly enough. better than Nobu any day of the week.

great food and service

By X-NYr |

Yes, we had to wait nearly an hour and Yes it was crowded and noisy, but the food and service made it worthwhile. The shishito peppers were breaded and fried, so we were disappointed, and they remade them for us without the breading and they were excellent. The kale dumplings were terrific, and all the sushi items were great. We had an excellent sake from their extensive list, and the waiter was exceptionally helpful and patient despite the crowds. We have now eaten at both branches (the other is on Amsterdam Ave on upper west side), and they are both great.

Excellent Sushi and Tempura. We were on our way to the market and remembered that Momoya was recommended by a friend; it was a coincidence that it was timely for lunch. A busy place but the service was great and the food excellent, with more than adequate portions.

Great Sushi of a great price

By SanDiego_MK |

Two of us visited for lunch. Definitely worth a visit. The staff were excellent and attentive, the food was excellent, and the prices (esp. for New York) were very reasonable.

What a Nice sushi!

By jdpatino21 |

I went with my girlfriend! We were very lucky because it didn't have much line! Please go and if is to crowed WAIT! The food is great! The place also is really cozy and is nice to have a conversation there! Perfect for bussines, dating and obviously Eating! Warning: the dishes are small, so order two appetizers and two sushi rolls! At least!

Will def come back

By Angela A |

This review is based on a takeout order I got from the place. When I passed by, already saw a large crowd inside the place. Got in, and since I was looking to place takeout order, went straight to the hostess to get the menu- love the fact that there was a small area right by the vestibule with high chairs looking through the storefront. It helped killing time while waiting! Ok- the meat- food was delicious! Ordered 3 special rolls, and the gyoza. Gyoza was nothing special , but thx roll was made fresh and tasty! Live the roll with the rice fried! Crunchy and unique! Will def come back!

Decent late-night sushi place

By dustythoughts |

This place was a decent place to order sushi late at night. We ordered the spicy tuna and the spicy salmon rolls online for delivery, and the restaurant had a buy-one get-one free special on the spicy tuna. However, when the sushi arrived, we thought they had forgotten to include one of the sushi rolls, as there was only one small box in our delivery. Apparently, each roll only had four pieces of sushi, which is smaller than the standard 6-8 pieces, and the sushi is pretty expensive given how little we got. However, the sushi was pretty good, and they put extra spicy mayo on the sushi for us.

Conflicted

By Reinaldo C |

Although the food was good, the host and wait time are not worth it. When they tell you that your table will be ready in 45 minutes and afterwards every fifteen minutes telling you another fifteen more. The host although full could have been a lot more accurate and nice. She was not rude but she was not at all nice. Therefore I am conflicted, if you want to eat good sushi but don’t mind the waiting time then this is worth it.

Excellent meal

By Magbox |

My friend was in town visiting from California and we love sushi, so we looked for a good place to check out and Momoya did not disappoint. We were staying in Chelsea and were a short walk away; we were seated promptly & the service was great considering how quickly the place filled up! We ordered a couple appetizers and 4 rolls to share. They were all excellent & fresh, the crispy rice with tuna was so good. We had some sake as well, which complemented the meal nicely. I would definitely recommend this place, nice ambiance & very good quality.

A very good Japanese restaurant

Great food fresh nicely served. Simple flavours very tasty excellent service. A great Japanese restaurant.

Awesome Sunday dinner

By Oscar E |

Arrive at 7:30, get a 40 min waiting time but be aware, these guys are brutal, make sure full party are there and on their toes! We got a table in like 15 min because people were chillin outside. Ok, good for us. Food awesome, excellent service. Had one roll that wasn’t 100% but apart from that excellent place, great atmosphere

Great food but LONG wait for table

By heyjudej |

The food was so delicious that I must give it 5 stars but the wait for a table was very long and the waiting area is extremely small and crowded (it was very hot and also rainy, so waiting outside was a NO GO). Everything we had was delicious and was beautifully presented. Very fresh sushi; excellent gyoza and the beet salad was amazing.

The food was worth the long wait

By Claudia H |

My daughter and I dined at this restaurant for dinner. They do not take any reservations so you will just have to go there , sign in and wait for your turn to be seated. The place, I heard ...is always full and always has a long line weekdays or weekends, but being highly recommended we decided to take our chances. The place definitely did not disappoint. My daughter and i have been to many sushi and Japanese restaurants all over the world and this one did not disappoint us. Although its just another sushi restaurant, they put a twist to many of their dishes , which we enjoyed a lot. Never thought truffle tasted so good in a dumpling dish. We enjoyed every dish down to the desert which featured our favorite ice cream filled mochi in several flavors . We waited for a long time to be seated but it was well worth the wait. The prices are on the higher side . A must try when in NYC.

food ok. Great late-night vibe, Udon was solid, but sushi was served slightly chilled which was a bit unexpected !

Never fails to please

By dancinggoats |

Second trip, of what I hope will be many more. On the suggestion of my daughter, we tried the tuna tortilla, as odd as that sounds. But wow, what a unique culinary creation. Very tasty, very large for most sushi/sashimi dishes. Highly recommend it!

Best Meal I've ever had...

This restaurant is THE BEST Japanese Restaurant in the WORLD. The Salmon Don is Amazing. I go here every weekend.

Unpleasant evening

By Carlo S |

Although on the Trip page it was written that it closes at 23 to 21.30 we asked for dessert and were told that the kitchen was closed and that the place closed at 22 and that they could not serve us dessert. Not serious.

Tasty sushi

Service was good and food was yummy as always. I like the ambiance there too and it's light and friendly.

Early dinner on a Saturday

By John S |

As a solo diner I was seated immediately and never felt alone from wait staff. The sushi is very good especially for the price. Miso soup was nice on a winter night. Good quality tea. I would go back.

Amazing sushi

A colleague recommended this restaurant and while it may not look like much from the outside the sushi is amazing! I highly recommend anything that comes in truffle oil! Service was good and speedy.

Covid has killed a restaurant

By psprague |

I have written 4-5 extremely positive reviews of Momoya in Chelsea after 30-40 visits. The last three visits force me to write this review. It is no longer possible to enjoy dinner or even lunch. It has the charm of a bus terminal during holidays. It is not necessarily the staff. The noise is louder - the crowd is ridiculous - service is based on turnover - with take out putting a greater burden on the 6 sushi chefs, up from 5, any hint of charm or even a smile has been eradicated. Sitting at the Bar is of course barred. The food is probably as good, but not as good as I remember, probably because a restaurant is remembered for its cuisine, ambiance and warmth of spirit. They are probably doing twice the business they were doing before Covid. I will only go when desperate for Sushi. Tonight I can’t imagine returning but I probably will. Momoya I am sure won’t care either way.

Superb Sushi, very busy

By Daniel S |

We were in NYC for a vacation combined with a college visit. We are here on a Sunday night, arriving at 5:40, ten minutes after opening. We got a table without trouble but by the end of the meal there was a line out the door. The staff was courteous and helpful. The restaurant itself was a little bit noisy. The sushi was very tasty. As was a funky lobster taco I decided to check out.

Times are changing and so is customer service

By PRIMUSFL |

I have eaten here many many times and love it, however on this occasion I was unpleasantly shocked and surprised. I guess as fame has increased this restaurants popularity the same is not true for simple customer service. There I am sitting at the sushi bar counter eating dinner (6:30pm on a Saturday) I ordered 5 courses and had just finished my first course. My waitress who I guess was also handling the to go orders asked me to move down one seat on the bar so that she would have more room to work her to go orders. I have never been asked in any restaurant situation to change seats/ tables in the middle of a meal unless of course there was an emergency and then the meal would probably be suspended. Mind you Momoya is not a "dash and dine type of place" we're the average meal is about $90 per person. Hmmmm, time to fine a new sushi place, food amazing but customer service starting to fade, which usually means greed takes over and the food quality will be next to go.....

Sunday Evening Diner

By Peter S |

Went out on my own to find a decent Japanese restaurant. I found an excellent and most wonderful place with Momoya, which was packed with an upbeat crowd. I had Miso, Edamame and a mixed Sushi/Sashimi. The quality great and the staff super friendly and efficient. Try the Sancerre it is goes just perfectly with the menue I chose

Yum!

By frostie83 |

Really enjoyed the sushi here, great value, tasty, friendly service. The soft shell crab was one of the best I've had, and the crispy rice was delicious and not one I've had before. My favourite roll was the black dynamite. I enjoyed it here so much that after having dinner on Monday I went back for lunch on Friday!

Fresh & delicious Japanese food in Chelsea, NYC!

By premile |

I ate lunch at Momoya in June 2023. Food: I ordered the salmon lunch box. It came with shumai, seaweed salad, California rolls, and miso soup. The food was fresh and full of flavor. Decor: spacious, lots of natural light, chic, modern. Service: professional, attentive, and courteous. Cost: the lunch special was $26 with tax. A fair price for the quality of food and restaurant in Chelsea, NYC. I would definitely recommend Momoya if you are in Chelsea and looking for delicious Japanese food!

Excellent Sushi and Sake

By Paul M |

Great place for Japanese; sushi, sashimi, sake. I was especially impressed with the sake menu and pairings. Excellent service. Ambience was interesting: clean bright interior, sat at the bar and listened to the incongruous Big Hair Rock playlist, and somehow it worked. Had a great talk with our son and his fiancée who live in the 'hood. They even had Maguro, which is hard to find!

Best sushi in NYC!!

By Jayshree N |

Momoya is by far the best sushi restaurant in NYC!! The fish is always fresh and they make the BEST tuna tortilla appetizer in al of New York hands down (mouth is watering as I write this). Other outstanding dishes here are the yellowtail jalapeño sashimi appetizer, and the tuna crispy rice. Service is friendly, and great sake selection as well. I make it a point to come here weekly, and it never disappoints. Highly recommended!

Awesome Japanese in Chelsea

By EANYC |

Momoya exceeded every expectation with courteous and professional service, fresh and inspired food, and a comfortable, inviting dining room.

Delicious food

By _erikagenellio12 |

went here on a date and loved this place! there is a bit of a wait if you go during peak time, but that gave me an opportunity to make some awkward small talk with my date. the food is delicious and the service is perfect. the sake was great too. would definitely go back! (to the place and the date).

Good Japanese meal

By Renata C |

Momoya is one of the best mid-range Japanese restaurants in NYC. Try the salmon crispy roll and the gyoza.

Chirashilicious

By missyalee |

I've heard many good things about this place and finally was able to check it out yesterday for lunch, what an amazing experience, the chirashi was hands down the best I've ever had, the temperature and freshness of the fish was on point, the presentation was nice and neat and the rice was cooked and seasoned to perfection! Definitely coming back again and again. Thank you for the delicious lunch!

Great modern Japanese

By Tim H |

Particularly loved the Risotto that a single dish was the food highlight of our week in New York. The busy hum of this place surrounded by fantastic contemporary modern decor and very attentive staff combined with the wonderfully fresh and beautifully presented food to make this a great evening out for us. The best part was that we just walked past Momoya on the way to somewhere else, and this was the exact sort of place I would scour the web hours and walk 5 miles for.

Wonderful

By Daniel C |

Had a big group. So we ordered most of the menu. Everything was excellent to outstanding. Some new twists on sushi. If you are in the city, check this play out. You will not be disappointed.

Very good sushi

By Rana A |

It was a last minute option since everyone was watching the last episode of GOT. We heard about Momoya and we wanted a good casual sushi. We waited for 45 minutes on a Sunday evening but the food was worth the wait. We tasted few signature dishes, the yellowtail roll and the tortilla were really good. The atmosphere is relaxed, the waitress gave us good recommandations. A very good and affordable place

Great, innovative Japanese in Chelsea. Food was absolutely delicious. We visited on a Monday evening, and the restaurant was packed. Service courteous and efficient.

Tradicional & Creative in one. Doesn’t disappoint.

By MUSTAPHA B |

I had been an assiduous client of the previous Meriken restaurante at the same address when I lived in the neighborhood, now that I moved away I always make sure to dine at Momoya Chelsea. As in past experiences, the quality and taste of the food was excellent, my last two visits especially enjoyed the Chirashi, and the Hokaido Sea Urchin sushi, the dragon roll, and the shrimp shumai. A wide variety of excellent sakes are available and a good wine list as well. Service was friendly end excellent.

Great Lunch Value and Quality Sushi

By bccrab |

Just was walking by looking for a place to grab lunch and dropped in. I was seated by the window and within 15 minutes this place became completely full with a line waiting to be seated. I can understand why. Excellent service and very good sushi. I had the fixed price sushi and sashimi combo with miso soup and it was very reasonably priced and very delicious and satisfying. Not a bad place but get there early to avoid the rush.

Wow.

By Kristofa E |

Amazing venue. Amazing service. Incredible food!! We had an aboslutely amazing time and were treated like kings and queens the whole evening! Rudy is the definite gid of japanese cuisine. Never have i had so much perfect food dish after dish and all prepared fresh in front of us. Id give ten stars!!!

Very good but not a great value

By Thestresser |

Impressed but not a huge value. Had great nigiri. Nigiri servings on the small side which i actually like quite a bit, but given the price, its not a great deal. I had to reorder the botan ebi and madai (2 types) as they were that good. I'd recommend based on quality and bustling atmosphere but if you want quiet and or value there are better places.

Great Sushi and Sashima

By Rose_Kavalier |

First time here and they live up to their reputation! Everything was delicious and plentiful! Service was excellent, too. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience! Next time I'll try the one on the upper westside. I recommend coming early or just expect to wait for a table.

One of the best

By Mete T |

Momoya restaurant is one of the best Japanese fusion restaurants in Manhattan. The restaurant is nicely done and very clean. The service is efficient and friendly. The only think that I would complaint is no advance reservation system and sometimes waiting time up to 45 minutes. But still one of my favorites

GREAT Sushi but a tad noisy

By Danny C |

This place is right down the street from my apartment and a staple in our dining experience. GREAT sushi (crunchy sushi roll is amazing, also black cod roll and kale dumplings are good.) They don't reservations so you have to get their early if you don't want to wait on line. My only qualm with the place is that it can get loud once is packed; be ready to speak louder than you normally would. A definite must-eat restaurant if you find yourself in Chelsea.

Amazing show!

By LaurentGuinci |

I feel like the best experience I had at Momoya was alone, went I sat at the counter to see the chefs preparing sushi in front of you. Such an art and they make it look so easy. The food is stunning and extremely fresh. My favourites are the crispy lobster roll and the black sesame ice cream and the spicy tuna crispy rice sushi and .... !!! A must try, despite the fact that they don't take any bookings and you may have to queue if you're not alone , willing to sit at the bar counter ! Superb.

Great sushi, very popular and noisy

By Joanne K |

The food here was excellent. It seems to be busy all of the time and they do not take reservations. The crowd is young urbanites and the noise level is high. I prefer quieter restaurants but the food was so good it was worth it.

Best Sushi

By Iris S |

This is a great sushi restaurant. It is small and bustling with lots of people waiting to be seated. You can enjoy a beverage of your choice while waiting (standing). However, the food is very much worth the wait. The food exceeded my expectations in every way and the pricing was not unreasonable. The space is very modern and the hostess is very attentive. She even knew our names upon departure during a very busy evening. I had the salmon bento with a spicy tuna roll and it did not disappoint. I will definitely return when in NY.

Good sushi, but overpriced

By Davide B |

Not much to say about this restaurant. The sushi is good, above average I would say. I got one of the special rolls and the ravioli and they were also pretty good. Nothing amazing, but nothing to complain. At a first glance, the price may also seem ok (4 to 5 $ a piece for the sushi). But the trick is that the pieces are really small. I could have probably fit three in my mouth at the same time. At the end with 50$ of food (and no drinks) - I was still quite hungry

Excellent creative sushi

By lgppres |

Doors and all windows were open on a late beautiful cool August night and when we got there it was noisy and busy but it gradually emptied out and we were able to talk to each other. Loved the sushi which was different than your standard sushi fare. Service was prompt ( when you could hear the server) Enjoyed it-good sake selection as well

Neighborhood can't be wrong

By psprague |

You have to arrive by 1215 or 615 if you want to avoid waiting - always popular In 25 + visits we haven't ever been disappointed Generally we have the truffled tuna Tortola which is an amazing Invention followed by the deluxe sushi combination which arrives in beautiful wooden bowl and generously provides dinner for two. Best to sit at the end of the bar and watch it beautifully come together. Much less expensive at 50$ than the sum of its parts. Sushi as good as any in NYC Staff works as a team and provides instant service. After all there is always a line at the door keeping the 5 sushi Chefs busy Cheers

Quality is good and reliable, service is fast!

By Giuseppe R |

We have been here several times. It is usually crowded and cannot make reservation for small parties. However, service is fast , good and line goes fast. Quality of sushi and rolls is super. Try the rice-crispy rolls.

SO GOOOOD

By nlibra777 |

Great meal. one of my new favorites. We did the tasting menu and were able to modify 10 pieces to 5, 2 of each. Everything was amazing. I have to say my favorite was the Crispy rice and the tuna belly. I already can't wait to go back.

Best sushi in NYC!

By bobs60641 |

I was given Momoya as a recommendation from a friend and longtime New York resident. My wife and I were in town for a weekend getaway and this was going to be our night for a great meal, and we definitely had one. We were unable to make reservations and while we had to wait for a table, it wasn't too long. The vibe of the place was fun with good energy. The staff was great providing solid recommendations. We had the Tuna Tortilla for an app and a couple signature rolls all of which was fantastic. I would recommend stopping in at Momoya without a doubt for not only some fabulous sushi, but a great dining experience as a whole.

Very good!

By Achatkin |

Excellent Japanese restaurant. Lots of possibilities... Delicious. The Momoya box is a very good option because you can taste various types of food. Do not ask for coffee because they don't have!

Early dinner - fantastic

By XCG_22 |

Had a great dinner here - fast efficient service, excellent food and nice atmosphere. Couldnt ask for more. Would definitely go back time and again.

First rate!

By peppergreen |

We stopped into Momoya at 5:30 for a quick pre-theater bite and were seated immediately. Undoubtedly, the early hour and being a party of two helped a lot. The place filled up quickly soon after. The service was fast and very polite, and the food was out of this world. We didn’t have time for a full dinner, so we shared steamed Edamame and each had a small entree. I had the Crispy Rice with spicy tuna, which deserves the raves posted here. The bottom of each piece is like the crispy rice that forms on the bottom of Korean Bimambop. Wonderful. My wife had Crunchy Salmon, which was also superb. We’ll be back next time we visit NYC. Can’t it wait to try the traditional Sushi and Sashimi. Judging from the dishes we had, I have no doubt it will be the best in the city. Don’t hesitate. Go to Momoya.

Absolutely amazing EVERY time we visit !

By JetSetJessa |

Can't say enough about how fabulous Momoya is ! Have eaten here probably 50 plus times and the food is always delicious fresh and fabulous ! The sake selection is wonderful the staff is wonderful it's all wonderful at Momoya ! They don't take reservations so you may have to wait but I promise it is worth it ! Try the baked crab hand roll- it's beyond ! You must must must try it !

Go today!

By K.S.G. |

Most likely the best Sushi restaurant I've been to the the US. We went just as they opened and got in fairly quickly. Otherwise, it fills up and you'll have a long wait.

Japanese in Chelsea

By josephzebley |

Invited to dinner by a family member staying in a apt on 21st Street. Momoya must be the in place as the tiny lobby was packed out to the street. Sister-in-law known there so we were seated right away. (Evil stares from the huddled masses) Food was good. Classic Japanese; Sashimi, Sushi, but also other dishes. Had very nice beet salad. One of us had magret de canard. Excellent service. BUT noise level quite high which makes it hard to have a conversation. Advice: go for lunch. Skip Momoya for dinner!

Wow. That's all...

By Charisse K |

I think when you love Japanese food, there's a certain standard that you expect, but Momoya blew me away. Despite the fact that we chose a busy weekday lunchtime and had to hang around the front entrance, I could happily wait longer if I knew what treats lay in store. It's been three weeks since we got back from New York, and my biggest food memory is Momoya. As in, I can literally taste and smell the food. We shared a few things but the most outstanding were the seaweed risotto with scallops and prawn (I'm totally ordering this to MYSELF next time!), the amazing crispy rice with tuna and the melt-in-the-mouth black cod with sweet potato puree. Just heaven on a plate. We didn't want it to end. Good, efficient staff that made the experience all about the food. Headed back there as soon as I can.

"SO FRESH"

By FOODBEAST66 |

You can count on this larger Japanese for on point service and super fresh fish. Helpful service and moderate tabs are pluses considering the quality and service level. The fish is ferried by intelligent staffers whom go above and beyond for the clientele. Our waiter was Ricky and he was superb in recommending several Sakes which complimented the fish perfectly. They have an awesome Sake selection. I recommend the Fluke, Toro, White Tuna and Yellowtail. With that said, the Uni was as good as it gets (with a quails egg of course). The digs are modern and spacious with a 3 dimensional wood backdrop in the dining area. Stop in if you have the opportunity and you will not regret it.

FANTASTIC Sushi!

By Brian P |

This place always has a bit of a wait no matter what night you go, but the bar seating opens up fairly quickly. The sushi is always fresh & delicious and the sake & wine is great too. The restaurant is on a corner so great amount of windows makes it feel roomy & spacious with views & light. I'd highly recommend eating here!

Fabulous Japanese restaurant in Chelsea

By 943rons |

They do not take reservations, so there is a long wait at prime times, so go early for really fabulous Japanese food. Brilliant appetizers and sushi—they also do cooked food, although we did not have any. Crowded, noisy, expensive, but really great food.

Good, really fresh ingredients

By TravelFan48105 |

This popular Chelsea neighborhood spot is worth a visit if you are looking for fresh, expertly made sushi. For dinner, try to arrive before 7 pm otherwise you may be facing a long wait for a table. Our waiter was efficient and unobtrusive. Decor is unremarkable, modern, clean and uncluttered. We started with the delicious wakame (seaweed) and cucumber salad. I loved its dramatic presentation with a tower of wakame surrounded by cucumber medallions. Our sushi was delicious - vegetable rolls and California rolls, all very fresh-tasting with crisp vegetables. With a single glass of wine, the total for 2 persons was $53, pretty reasonable for NYC.

Wednesday dinner with lovely

Wednesday dinner with lovely friends .. food and dishes were awesome! Long waiting list and line made me waiting 45’ but dinner at Momoya deserves every bit of it.

High quality sushi on a budget

By Scott_R_Seattle |

Excellent, reasonably priced Japanese restaurant. Premium sushi rolls are worth the price. Service is good. Very crowded at all times. No reservations, so be prepared to wait
