Worth the cost

Beautifully located near St Patrick’s Cathedral this high end steakhouse is known for its prime rib. Staff was friendly and accommodating for children as well as adults. The food was absolutely incredible.

Contrived reviews?

Finding this very odd. This place was fantastic. Food literally excellent - service great, great menu. Really loved the feel and open kitchen. Just cannot recognise the comments here. My only slight criticism was the music was a bit loud - but every thing else was great.

Poor service, mediocre food, bad management

By SoCalTMac |

We were looking forward to Thanksgiving dinner at Monterey and made our reservations a month in advance. When we arrived on time, they sat us at a table that apparently had no server assigned. We waited an hour to get our first course, and then only after we got the manager involved. Service remained so slow that after nearly two hours, we still had not received our dessert course. This was a prix fixe menu at $100 per person and there was no excuse for this delay. We had to skip dessert in order to make it to a play in time. After the play, I learned that the restaurant cancelled our reservation retroactively so I could not leave a review on OpenTable. Dishonest. And the food was mediocre. We ended up getting room service at our hotel. Very disappointed.

New York Finest

You couldn’t ask for anything better! Really one of the best dining experiences of my life. Everyone in our group had a wonderful experience. Loved it!

A perfect mid day place

By MES1948 |

We always stop here , when in NYC, for a mid day cocktail and snack. The staff at the bar is always pleasant and interactive. The crispy artichokes are amazing. A perfect place for a mi day pick me up.

The best restaurant

By anggy h |

Visiting this restaurant was a delight. The ambiance is modern and elegant, perfect for any occasion. The quality of the food is second to none, and each dish is prepared with fresh, high quality ingredients. The service was impeccable, with attentive and friendly waiters who went out of their way to make sure we had a wonderful experience. We will definitely return.

Finally a NYC Restaurant that has it all!

Finally a NYC Restaurant that has it all!! Very good food, wonderful menu selections, terrific service and a fantastic atmosphere

Unfortunate experiene.

Presentation and service was excellent. Unfortunately, the prime rib special was not. My girlfriend came violently ill from either the Caesar salad or the prime rib. It’s so unfortunate as we love around the concert and were looking forward to adding this restaurant to our list.

Group dinner

By Novers |

Food was decent. We were a large group and we ordered several appetizers to share. The shrimp were a little spicy and hard to eat without using your fingers. The mushrooms and artichokes were a big hit with our group though! Dinner was good. I would say everyone enjoyed their food and the sides with the exception of the green beans. They were awkward to eat. I had the tenderloin and it was good and cooked to temp asked. The lobster pasta was a hit at the table also. Service was ok, we had to keep asking for more wine and water when we could flag a server down. It was also very odd there was one bathroom (one person at a time) for the whole restaurant and they were very busy.

New York Post wrong on this one

By PeteD298 |

I use to go to the restaurant that was in this space before the pandemic and liked it. They ran the best greet the guest in the city. This new place got a great write up from the NY Post and is very popular so I booked. You have to give a CC for the booking. Cancelling inside 24 hours is $40 a head. If you book for 4 and only 3 show it is $40. I hope they really don't charge that but that is what you agree to. Service is very snooty. Food not great. Prices over the top even for NYC. I ordered the $18 bread because I figured it had to be super but it was just good. It might have been super for $6. This place won't be hot for long.

Classic lines with some modern touches - and great venue

By Andy C |

The event space is excellent, and very nice setup. That said, the restaruant itself is also a good showpiece - a mix of classic showmanship with a slight modern flare. Just wish the event space actually connected over and could oversee the venue. But regardless, was very very good, and definitely the right level of upscale. Food and service were top notch and befitting a proper steakhouse and event.

Disappointing

By odette T |

On our arrival my daughter & I were impressed with the atmosphere; it was busy and we were greeted speedily and taken to our table. It was our last night visiting the City from the U.K. & this was meant to be our last night treat (the Lotte Hotel staff recommendation so we were sure we’d have a good evening & a lovely meal). From the moment we took our seats everything went downhill! The waiter’s opening suggestion of oysters and fizzy water was politely declined we asked for a glass of water each (I usually ask for tap but that wasn’t given as an option) so we settled for a bottle of still water ($10). My daughter & I ordered steak frites. Any veg is a chargeable side dish which is not unusual so I was planning to order broccolini but What I thought was a simple request to substitute chips for additional vegetables turned into an unnecessary drama which ruined my evening. The waiter told me they offer a salad instead of chips but would not provide extra veg not even some additional broccolini to the side dish I was paying extra for! I reluctantly accepted a salad instead so basically I was served with steak (which it has to be said was well cooked and tasty) and half a plate of manky looking lettuce (seriously brown looked more like cabbage). We also had to endure our waiter discussing the situation with his colleagues while they stood behind our table. The manager noticed what was happening and came over to see us (along with the waiter eager to listen to the conversation). The manager apologised & promised to improve on the “salad”, he disappeared leaving my steak to go cold then came back with a different lettuce and a few sliced radishes. I gave up at this point & promptly left as soon as we’d finished our meal (we would have usually ordered dessert but we’d had enough by this stage & just wanted to leave). What a rip off!! $181 for 2 steak frites, a small glass of red wine & a bottle of water! I’ve eaten in some wonderful fine dining establishments in my lifetime but never have I endured such a drama over a simple request to replace a few chips with some vegetables instead. Very poor indeed

Used to be nice, classy place.

This was our second trip to this restaurant. First time we were last year in December, and we like it very much. We ordered for dinks martini cart, and bartender, who was preparing our martini, she was so knowledgeable and friendly. We were offered varieties of differed options of different ingrediencies with full explanation of how this ingredient will flavor our martini choice. For the dinner we ordered Prime Rib Dinner, and big chunk of meat was rolled to our table on separate cart, and depending how you want your steak be prepared, waiter cut from different parts of this meat chunk according to everybody’s choice. So, year later, we decide to celebrate our anniversary again in Monterey Modern Steakhouse. Unfortunately, this time we had some disappointments. When we arrived, we were sitting on the second floor. Waiter who was serving our table ask me what I want to drink, but forgot to ask my wife what she want to drink. After I told him I want martini cart, he told me this only on the first floor, but later let me know they will bring cart upstairs. Bartender, who was preparing my martini ask if I want gin or vodka, but then just add martini of his choice without asking what I want, and did not offer any additional ingrediencies for my drink. I was waited for prime rib cart to arrive to our table, but instead waiter brought me steak on the platter. Steak was row prepared, not what I am usually ordering, and nobody even ask me how I want my steak done. I had to send steak back to the kitchen to prepare to my order. I look downstairs and saw on the first floor they had fully stocked martini cart and prime rib cart. Another disappointment I noticed is restaurant for dinner was looked as place for small children’s party place. This something we did not noticed last year when we had a dinner at this place. If you decide to make reservation at this place, always ask for the first floor. Overall I would give this place “C” for service and quality.

Excellent service and good food. I recommend it 100%. My family was delighted with the food and service, I also recommend it to come to celebrate birthdays and special dates.

Private event but wonderful

By Rhapsodyinblue |

We were here for a Sunday brunch, a private event. I therefore can’t really comment on the regular menu. I can tell you that the atmosphere is great, the service was impeccable and the food was terrific . The brunch consisted of standard eggs and accompaniments, smoked salmon and standard accompaniments, and the bread that has been mentioned multiple times that comes in a wheel and pieces break off. It is a wonderful onion bread. I wanted to take a bunch of them home. Everything was great and I would really like to try this for a meal off of the menu.

Nice atmosphere but overpriced for quality of food.

Went there for Thanksgiving and overall food was average and not worthy of the price paid. Staff was wonderful and the ambiance was fantastic.

I found the "Beef"

By Neutralatbest |

Headed to this venue to kick off a weekend in NYC. On line reservations were a snap. We were seated immediately upon arrival, and our assigned waiter Arog (spelling), was front and center upon getting settled. He offered his opinion on the dishes, and we obliged him by accepting the Prix Fixe with salad, Prime Rib, and desert. A perfectly presented and prepared shrimp cocktail started the festivities. Next came the salads with their exceptional house dressing and fresh ingredients. Along came the main course... a table cut piece of Prime Rib so large if they threw some hoofs on the table we may have been able to reassemble the cow this remarkable cut of meat came from. The meat was some of the best prime rib I have eaten anywhere. Service was fluid, and by no means rushed. The deserts came out and the cloud cake was so good, I barely regretted the what would have to be 126 point rise in my cholesterol level, after enjoying that cake in it's entirety. Arog did a major league job and this is definitely my new favorite place in NYC. Thanks for a great evening

Nice place! Perfect welcome and very good meal

A very good time together. A well-stocked wine list and very good meal. We had a great evening in this modern place where different types of guests mix
