Had a great recommendation to try this place and glad we did . Amazing front of house , lovely wine ( as long as you are prepared to pay upwards of $70 ) and the food is to die for ! Must try is the Duck , and two courses for $75 for the quality of food , setting and service is worth the money . Will definitely return - fab !!!

Mr. Chow is my favourite London restaurant and my husband and I have visited the Beverly Hills one also which is also excellent. The New York one is both familiar in terms of food and decor. Our food was as expected: DELICIOUS!

We have been to Mr. Chow several times over the years and always had a nice, relaxing dinner, this time was just the opposite. Maybe it was because it was Valentine's Day, but that really cannot justify the lightning speed in which they handled everything. It seemed they were hellbent on getting you in and out as fast as they could. All of this for $95.00 per person + drinks, tax and tip. It started with me asking for chocolate chips instead of espresso bean in my chocolate martini. It was on the menu with a different martini and I wanted to substitute one for the other. The waiter said the chocolate chips had not been delivered and therefore were unavailable. Next they had prawns with walnuts as one of the appetizer choices, they were now substituting something for the walnuts. We could not understand hardly anything our waiter said let alone what the substitution was so asked for it to be served on the side. We ordered the lobster for one of the entrees again we could not understand the preparation. I asked if it was a lobster tail and he said he did not know what that was. My husband asked about the Beijing chicken and he said it was served with walnuts. Hold everything!!! You just said you did not have the walnuts for the prawns. He said "I will bring you walnuts" which he did in a little side dish. This was the most confusing food ordering we have ever experienced !! Now started the most rapid dining we have ever had. The 2 appetizers arrived and were very good. Immediately after they brought the lobster and duck not chicken. We sent it back and it was really a blessing that they got the order wrong because there was no way all of this would fit. The tables are so small, almost like you would find in a cocktail lounge. No kidding you could not fit 2 entrees and 2 dinner plates on the table. The man next to us had to ask for a smaller plate because the regular sized dinner plate was half off the table. We were finished with the lobster when the chicken arrived so we only had to deal with one entree, rice and vegetable. A little more manageable but not ideal. Immediately after came the dessert, one dessert to share. We were finished with all this food in one hour !!! The patrons were dressed in attire more fitting for dinner at MacDonalds for the most part. A few people were dressed nicely but not many. Not sure if we will go back. We really use to like seeing the chef make the noodles and having a nice relaxing dinner. This was not that!

Not my first visit here but definitely the last . I am not sure if they have a new chef or new management but the food was extremely disappointing. Service was rushed . For the $$$ you pay to enjoy fine dining is so not worth it spending it here.

We chose the classic semi prix fixe meal and ordered the 3 appetizers and 3 entrees for $66/person. Appetizers: Chicken satay lobster shumai Vermicelli with lobster 3 entrees: Sea bass (added $4/person) Beef with oyster sauce Crispy duck 2 sides (choose type of vegetable and type of rice) Shrimp fried rice Mushrooms Although the food was good and filling for the 3 of us, not sure if it was worth the $210 for the meal. Ambiance and service was excellent so maybe thats what you are paying for. I am not sure I would go back unless It was in a small group for a special occasion. I would also likely choose off the prix fixe meals.

My wife and I were in New York (from the UK) for a few weeks while I was working there. We found this place late on a Sunday night as we were walking home. Had been looking for take out but thought let’s eat in. It was very quiet with only a few tables occupied. Manager and lady on the door were very friendly but all went wrong when our waiter came over. We were not that hungry so didn’t want loads of food (plus it was 10pm) so we asked our waiter if we could have a few starters but he was blatantly questioning our every choice. ‘You only want starters?’ And “you don’t eat meat?” when we told him we were vegan. All said in such a rude tone of voice and he was very unhelpful. Made us feel like we shouldn’t have been there and we wanted to leave. My husband asked for the manager and asked for a different waiter telling him our waiter had been so obnoxious. He was very nice and sent over a different waiter who was more friendly. Food was very nice but small portions. We had the vermicelli noodles but without the lobster (as we are vegan - they added some mushrooms and pak choy) yet they charged us the same amount as the lobster dish. We did question it but they said that’s just how it is. They gave us a fruit dessert complimentary due to the “misunderstanding”. We were paying customers who have dined in restaurants all over the world but have never been treated with such blatant and undisguised disdain by a waiter. We left shaking our heads at the experience..it was almost surreal! Manager was friendly but not good enough especially due to the extortionate prices - a few slices of fruit was an insufficient gesture given the experience! Avoid this pace at all costs!

Very good food in an upscale atmosphere. Honestly, everything tasted great and it was great ambience. The problem? The food is WAY overpriced. Even a small plate of chicken in a basic sauce just enough for two people costs $48... and that was the low end. I was driving so I only got soda with my meal and did not realize every small glass of soda cost $6.50. I truly can't remember the last time I ate at a restaurant that did not do refills on sofa. They charge for every possible thing and do so at luxury rates. We had a very basic meal without going overboard in any way and just one cocktail and it was still over $200. On top of that, we found the wait staff rather smug. We had not been here before so we had some questions about menu items and ordering. We felt judged by the responses, with a tone that seemed to be turned off that we actually asked that question. It is a shame because, as I said, the food was very good. But with the unimpressive staff and insanely high prices I will never go here again and I will never recommend it.

We had heard about this restaurant through friends and they believe it was the best they had tried in NYC. They were correct!! The presentation of the food, professionalism of the service and atmosphere made this a very special experience. The price is what you would expect for fine dining in NYC.

The food was okay and very over priced. But I loved the experience. This wouldn't be a choice of mine again. Great service and ambience but I feel it is very overpriced. And it's just labeled as the to-do spot!

I've been going to Mr. Chow for over 20 years. It still has the same charm that it did back then. The room is beautifully designed. It's intimate, and glamorous with a 80's vibe. It's a classic NY experience. From the moment you arrive the host and hostess treat you like gold. We took a friend who had never been and she absolutely loved it. The service is exceptional. We even were surprised with a hand-pulled noodle show from the chef. The whole room was cheering. It was hilarious. Some of my favorite dishes include, the roasted duck, chicken skewers, ribs, spicy pork, and fried rice. We also had the most epic chocolate cake. Can't wait to go back.

Delicious and sexy restaurant. The ambiance was great and service impeccable, what else to expect from a New Restaurant with this kind of reputation. The flavors and presentation were great. I will be back for sure..

Excellent service, and high quality gourmet food. This is a sophisticated, serious restaurant with deliciously prepared cuisine and quality, high end service. It's been around "forever", and it's expensive, but you get a large quantity of food and outstanding quality. Great atmosphere, too.

Very disappointed service and quality of the food nothing creative, nothing new, over price for what you eat, much better in Chinatown, they lie to you they offer you a menu prix fix and after they send you other dish not the one in the prix fix menu surprise, it was recommended from a very good friend

Very nice chinese restaurant. The food is very good especially must try the chicken satay and the crispy beef. However this place is very noisy. We were there with colleques and we really had hard time hearing each other.

The chicken satay is amazing. The steak is very tender and I love the seaweed and shrimp.Try the dumplings

Everything was absolutely perfect. Service was great. The Food was amazing. And the noodle show was amazing. Greatly recomended

We had heard great things about this restaurant, but were really disappointed. The prices are ridiculous, and although the food was ok, it was not worth the money. $32 for a bowl of soup? Crazy, but true. Plus, when the food arrived it was warm, but not hot. The restaurant was busy, but our dishes probably sat around outside the kitchen for too long before being served to us, and considering the prices, the portions were really small. Wont go back. There are other Chinese restaurants in NY, with great food but at half the price of Mr Chow. Our bill, including tax and tips came out to close to $175.00 per person.

It was very busy, very expensive, for very simple Chinese food. Do not see what all the fuss is about going to this restaurant. The food was good, make no mistake, but way over-priced

The food is very good, though the scallion pancakes were just stodgy. The Duck, very good and Sea Bass in ginger and cilantro was excellent. The reason I only give 3 stars, is because it was very pricey for what it was, and the service was average at best.

Pros: Good Food, Excelent Service (ask for Tony) Cons: Overpriced and the Restaurant’s Decoration is updated.

We booked a table having eaten at Mr. Chow in Miami when meeting some friends whilst we both visited NY. The food was great especially the duck and fish and it arrives in stages that suits your evening and tastes. The staff are very posh which is fine when it's just adults but w head 5 children so in hindsight maybe not the best choice for them but we had a great meal

I booked this hotel for a meak with friends on our visit in Dec 2015. The food was very nice and the drinks was flowing but the price was extortionate. Even for me who booked and knew it was going to be for a special occasation, it was eye-wateringly pricey. The alcohol was as much as the food. Four people (food/drink) cost $500. Now the staff do make it a special occasion and once seated, they swarm 'round your table filling drinks, water, and fettle everything and it really is a good overall experience. The neighbouring tables are in close quarters but this adds to the atmosphere of this loud and bustling restaurant. Once the pain of the $$$ bill subsides, I still look on this as a great and lasting memory of NYC!

Packed for a reason, people milling about to get in. The sea bass was so perfectly cooked it was almost a gelatin of buttery flavor. Dumplings are not for the patient, hot soup you need to be patient on. Filet is soft and tasty. Chicken satays are a fun starter and are very good, some spice. The duck was not too fatty, as you can get. But, I was not pleased we weren't given cutlery for it until asked. If you aren't into a bit loud and chaotic, you won't like it. But for a party where you want to be a bit boisterous, it was great. I'd go again

The place is pretentious and expensive, but the food is anything but authentic and satisfying. We were hoping to get a real high-end Chinese dining experience, but every dish was just a distant replica of the glorious Chinese tradition.

This is a absolutely honest review of restaurant Mr Chow. I don’t usually write reviews often but this restaurant was impressively bad. Starting of with the staff. The front desk was very nice and welcoming but on the other hand the servants and especially the manager was very rude and acted as if we were his school friends. We ordered the pekin duck ( what their known for ) the duck was 100 per person. The duck that they brought out, looked nice but it was definitely not what they served. What we got served for a group of four was about 300 grams of barely fried fat pieces of duck skin. The kitchen didn’t serve a single piece of meat. When we tried that soggy duck skin we expected for the actual duck meat to be served. The servants cleaned up our table and asked if we wanted dessert. We asked nicely if they served us the whole duck that we paid for ( 400$ ). The manager came to us and made us, look like the fools. He said “ was that not enough for you”. We were really surprised of how rude the manager was. In summary just please avoid this restaurant and tell your surrounding of this horrible place. They will make a fool out of you and scam the total Sh*t out of you. Thank you Mr chow for you hospitality :) Asian street food is cooked better than in this overpriced restaurant.

Went here for the first time. It was really hyped by my dining companion. I found the food to be very average if not slightly bland. Portions were small yet very expensive. I felt unsatisfied following my meal. Lots of talk about how Mike Tyson and Robert DeNiro frequently dined there. Looking around the ambiance had a bit of a 1980s feel to it. Perhaps it was great 30 years ago but I was unimpressed especially considering the prices we paid. Way better food in greasy spoon Chinatown joints for a fraction of the price.

The food is good but very expensive. My son took me here for my birthday. Nice atmosphere and great service. The staff were very attentive and they sang happy birthday eloquently. Great for celebrating special occasions.

Great service, food and drinks. The unit at 57th may be less trendy but is a great experience and food is amazing. Try the 3 course family meal - which include the Duck - preparation finishes at your table.

Mr. Chow's has been around for a very long time. Not your classic Chinese food but they have their own specialties and it's quite good. The restaurant is very pretty and the service is good.

For a special occasion this restaurant can not be bettered. If you want the best Chinese food and noddles your find anywhere this is your place. The finest prawns I have ever tasted and high quality cuisine throughout. Service highest quality and look out for the Noddle making live demo ! Amazing evening

The food was served in very small portions at exorbitant prices, $40-50 per entree. Each side dish was at least $11 and was tasteless. One needs to douse each dish with chili sauce for any kind of flavor. To top it all, the service was awful. The servers needed constant reminders to bring the food we ordered. They were surprised that we asked for chopsticks… in a Chinese restaurant! Avoid this place at all costs.

Read a recent NYT review of this restaurant and it brought back a flood of memories. Was living in London in 1968 having moved there from San Francisco where I lived two blocks from Chinatown. Exited about trying a good Chinese restaurant (I was not yet familiar with the then small London Chinatown), I tried Mr. Chow. Very expensive and very much less authentic than the San Francisco eateries I loved. But, it became a "destination" due to the musicians and high lifers who frequented it. Years later I ate in the NY 57th street location. Same experience. Food is just mediocre. The prices are scandalous. Tables on top of each other. Impossible to converse. This place lives on its "invented" reputation. Shame.

Mr Chow on 57th Street. treated another couple to dinner embarrassed that the dinner portions were smaller than even an appetizer 3 ounces of fish $50. tiny pot of rice. filet was $60 for a couple ounces and grilled vegetables with chicken $40 could not even see the chicken and hardly any vegetables. tasty but totally overpriced and not enough food to feed one person. They need to stop skimping on food. had to make dinner at home afterwards. Sad!

I will say this is one of the favorite chinese restaurant in NY. Their steam fish on soy sauce is just marvelous and delicious- melt on your mouth. Cant have enough of it. soup is excellent. Service is excellent. Nice place and no smell at all. Its pricy but worth it.

In my opinion every Mr Chows we have visited has been just as expected. We recently went to NY Chows. We had a 6pm reservation so we could go to a show afterwards. Note. They open the doors at 6. And people are usually waiting outside so there is a little rush at the beginning to get inside and get a table. If you are going to a show know what you want right away. Look up the menu in advance Makes sense. First orders in. First orders up Also if you are going to a show afterwards take 57 to 9 th. Get out at corner and walk either 45 or 46. If there is a lot of traffic If no show. Take your time ordering. Ask questions. Order slow. Drink a lot. Have fun. If going romantic. Ask for corner table.

I have come here since 1980. As always the servers are pushy and you end up with a huge bill. But the food is good. I highly recommend the chicken satay as a starter.

Had a early reservation so the restaurant was not yet packed (6pm). Very quiet atmosphere. Food was delicious. The staff was extremely attentive. Chicken satay was the best !

All in all good food, but disproportionate prices. We spent more than €100 each without drinking wine, also considering that the food is served on aluminum plates. The place is furnished in a somewhat sad way.

I went there last week with two girlfriends. The food was fine BUT not only was the server rushing us to leave - he kept coming over and rudely asking if the check was paid, the surrounding tables and chairs were being lifted and put away around us. We got the hint and were uncomfortable so we left but now I just received an alert that a $70 tip was left on my $80 bill! I left 20%! This is a joke! I have lived in NYC for over 10 years and this has never happened to me before. I will be calling and complaining and sharing this feedback anywhere I can. Terrible this would happen I am sure plenty of other people had their tips adjusted as well! People beware

the tables are one on top of the other and you can not have a conversation, the food is low quality and the service hurried and terrible...they put food in front of you without any explanation of what you are eating......

Went there for a bday dinner, restaurant came highly recommended for its food and ambience. It is a small, upscale restaurant, decor is nice but nothing special, big vase of orchids in the middle of the room. The food was just ok. My friends ordered the whole duck and told me it was excellent. Personally I don't eat duck, but the noodles with ground beef that we ordered tasted like over boiled spaghetti bolognese, the chicken satay was anything but a satay. We were a big group and ordered pretty much most of the menu items, other than the two aforementioned everything else was good, but none reached the level of fine cuisine. Moreover, we felt rushed throughout our dinner, waiters were rushing past all the time, we were asked if we were done with our food every ten minutes. Overall just an ok place. There are way better chinese restaurants in NY.

Like Bulgarian street food? Dried up chicken in old cream sauce? This place is worse than any cheap military base cafeteria food in some sad East European village. The blaring l970s canned disco music just adds to the pitiful experience. Whatever connection to Asian food it once had is a distant memory.

We liked the food at Mr Chow and the lovely outdoor dining space. We got the special two-dish combo with: chicken satay and beef dumplings for starters (both nice, though the chicken satay was heavy on the peanut sauce) and crispy beef and chicken with walnuts (both delicious). For dessert, a slice of chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream - nice though slightly old fashioned. Staff very nice. Overall, we liked it but other more modern/ up-to-date places have overtaken it in New York.

This was by far the noisiest restaurant we went to during our week in NYC. The service was very good, but the food was very disappointing. One of the dishes I was served I just left because it tasted nothing. It was like having a lunch at one of the cheapest chinese reastuarants. The other dishes were not more than medium in taste and quality. This was also an very expensive restaurant. There are lots of better chinese restaurants in NY than this.

Possibly the worst Chinese food I’ve ever eaten anywhere in the world. The xo squid was tasteless as was the bok Choy , the chicken satay was .. well I’m not sure how to describe it. I’m all for fusion and or reinvention but this is just all about the brand and not the food. When we mentioned we thought the food was a bit tasteless, maitre d laughed and joked that perhaps the chef had not had enough wine tonight.. lol wtf. Emperors new clothes 🤦🏻♀️

I used to go with my parents and my children... young ones. Now they are adults. So,has been about 20 years... the last times we went to the one in TriBeCa. The food is good, but don’t have to try the crab claws... lot of dough and poor in taste. But the mushrooms and the duck are wonderful. The wine it’s is good The deception was about the service rush.... very good service, but you have to eat at they speed. My plate was taken off twice without finishing eating. A pit Mr Chow.....

Just enjoyed another delicious meal at Mr Chow. I love this place. It's good food in a glamorous setting. The service is good, efficient and without the attitude of a lot of fine dining places. There's often celebrities here, but it's really about the food. Delish! It's pretty expensive but the food is worth it. It can get crowded and loud but it's quite a scene. It was about $120 per person without booze. Dress up and go out and eat here.

Mr. Chow Delicious and upscale Chinese food is served by extremely attentive professionals in dramatically decorated, buzzing surroundings. From the moment you enter, you are warmly greeted by the polished host. The food is excellent. The lobster appetizer was very tasty. The entrees were great as the prawns were yummy and the filet mignon entree was delectable and a scrumptious standout. The food is so well seasoned, perfectly cooked and delicious. The sautéed vegetable sides (mixed vegetables and bok choy) were also very well prepared. Cocktails are strong. Mr. Chow is NOT your local Chinese restaurant. At Mr. Chow, patrons dress for dinner, professional staff anticipates your requests, and quality ingredients are expertly prepared, all resulting in quite a deliciously delightful (and yes, VERY pricey) dining experience.

The staff at Mr Chow is fantastic. We were warmly greeted on arrival, and seated per my reservation request in a banquette. The food, the atmosphere, the drinks, the staff - PERFECTION! Do not miss eating here when you go to NYC. It is consistently delicious and a fantastic experience. Every dish was incredible!

The food is amazing and the staff is incredible. I love the sate chicken with the sauce. I'm in love with the special lobster, and the squab. This is my favorite place to eat in NYC. My family and I go about one a month or so.

I booked table for two @ 7:15 pm when I checked in they asked me to wait , I have waited for 30 minutes and still at least 10 others people’s are waiting, so we decided to leave.

Five of us had the Peking Duck special dinner, preceded by generous appetizers, accompanied by delicious side dishes and washed down with ($95) Poully Fumai. The duck was not quite right, but otherwise everything else was delicious.

I love this place. The service is top shelf and the staff is very attentive without being overbearing. The food is great! Try the dumplings, chicken or beef appetizers. Really love the chicken. Main dishes are to many to mention, but try the fish and/or chicken dishes. There are a couple of locations but I like this one the best. You walk down the steps into a small seating area that is intimate and comfortable. Have been many times and will keep going back!

I had one of the best meals ever. Try the dumplings and the spicy pork. Very friendly staff and a beautiful decorated restaurant.

I love Mr Chow’s been a fan since I was in my early 20’s bern to them all over the world and think the brand is amazing. My last trip in NY was spot on I could not fault a thing. Best noddles and duck I have ever had. Cocktails perfectly made and service is spot on. Not cheap but worth every penny.

Mr Chows never lets us down ! A must start is Mr Chow Noodles , to die for ... Then the Dumplings , and Spare Ribs were amazing. And an absolute DO NOT MISS ... The Dressed Dungenes Crab. UNBELIEVABLE!!! Our daughter lived the cheesecake too. Service is impeccable ! This is a must on every trip to the city for us ! Thank you All!!

I first started to eat at Mr Chow in London, mid 1970's, overseen by the wonderful Tina Chow. When I moved to New York in the mid 80's, my visits were not as frequent, but I'm still a fervent fan. Giant clams on the half she'll come complete with bright orange coral, crispy duck..crisped to perfection.. deep fried shredded seaweed is crispy and ands a tasty side to Shredded dry sautéed beef Spicey and sweet.. as well as fellow diner watching (celebs sprinkle the assembly) you are treated to a side show of one of the chefs swinging a ball of dough, stretching and swinging until he has transformed if into a thousand noodles.. great cocktails on the balcony overlooking the dining room. Pricey.. but worth it.

The area of the restaurant where we were seated was very cold and cramped. In fact the whole restaurant wasn't impressive to look at all except the beautiful lillies in the centre. My food was made cold due to the air conditioning above. The menu was a basic laminated sheet - how sad. The prices were outrageous - starters for around £18 - £25 each and mains around £35 - £45 each. The food quality was very poor - in fact my local Chinese take away serves better food. Prawns overcooked and served in tough shells. Chicken satay sauce was revolting and did not taste of peanuts at all. Crispy duck was totally overcooked and they didn't even remove the meat from the bones for us. Lamb dish was also overcooked and uninspiring. Chilli beef was reasonable. Rice was served late as we didn't want shrimp in the egg fried rice. For two of us, we spent $235 and only had two bottles of Pinot Grigio between 5 of us. Couldn't afford dessert !!! Didn't complain on the night as I didn't want to upset the family as it was meant to be a special occasion.

Visited this authentic Chineese formal restaurant. Though the ambience and service was fine, but we being vegetarians didn’t have much to select. Moreover the service was way too quick and didn’t bring it anywhere closer to being a formal restaurant. Also Airconditioning was bad. Wouldn’t recommend with kids and for vegetarians.

Interesting dining experience -- nice room with good food choices, still hard to sort out on how to organize your dinner. Reasonable selection might be beef and prawns, and the Peking duck if you come with a party of at least three. First-rate wine list but fairly high-end. Ordering a coffee at the end is a good way to break up the rushed service that comes with dessert. Overall -- positive but with reservations. Potential for good dining experience.

Very nice Ford and excellent atmosphere.Beejing duck is just as good as if you are having in Beejing which İ had few teras ago. However, you must be 3 people to order or pay the full price!Service can be improved but still above avg in NYc.Wine list must be better to enjoy your dinner.Worth to taste.

A fun & formal experience with consistent food & service always fun to see them handle-pull noodles!

Food was very good but extreemly over priced even by nyc standards! Small portions and not worth price but food was good.

We are from out of town but they always remember our name and order. The atmosphere is family but formal and the menu is both traditional and modern. Highly recommend. Great location.

We had a wonderful experience from cocktails at the bar on arrival to all the delicious food and drinks during dinner. Our favourite thing was the noodles and the prawns. Really had a wonderful evening in very special surroundings. We'd highly recommend.

This is a very small restaurant with a very large staff. We were sat at a table facing into the room (as opposed to across from one another)... seemed as though all the couples coming in were sat the same way. A waiter came by with a giant bucket of iced champagne and offered a glass for purchase. The food was very good, but entrees do NOT come with any sides (even rice). For $75 a person, you can each get an entree and then share your choice of rice and one appetizer. The staff was very friendly but overall I would say it was very pretentious. But now we can say we have dined at the famous Mr. Chow.

It was the first time at this location and we liked it very much with the bar at the entrance and the dining area in the lower part. Potstickers so authentic, salt and pepper prawns with the shell, and then a gambler's duck with fried rice. Very generous portions, well served and with a good wine list. The places very animated, seating arrangements quite tight like in a French brasserie but a lot of fun.

My wife and I visited Mr Chow of the back of some many good reviews on this site . We agree that the service is great, but the food was just ok - nothing special and not authentic Chinese . Menu Is small and unispiring

Have been living steps away for years and finally tried Mr. Chow's. Frankly, the food was much better than anticipated, particularly the Peking duck. And the service was wonderful. If looking for a unique NYC experience, try it!

Food is very fresh; you will feel the taste and flavor of each and every item of the menu, distinctly. Obviously a typical restaurant to enjoy Chinese food. Very comfortable and a superior service. Sophisticated ambiance.

Love the ambience, with the bar on top. Very nice G&T waiting for the table. I loved the food, their crab is excellent. Quite expansive but ok for the amount of food given

The service here was outstanding. The food was flavorful and enjoyable but very costly for what it was.

Great food, great service! Love the atmosphere of Mr Chow. Must haves are the Mr Chow noodles and Crispy Duck! Thank you to the Manager (Kevin?) He made sure we could enjoy our meal and not worry about getting to the theater on time!

Nervously we booked a table here to celebrate my husband's birthday while on vacation - with our two-year-old son in tow. At home we never take him for dinner and were anxious how he would behave/be treated. We need not have been concerned. From the second I called to check if they had high chairs to the moment we left the staff made us feel at home. Our servers took time to learn my son's name and chatted to him each time they returned to the table to check on us. With champagne from the cart which is brought around the room we started off with a bang before chowing down on noodles, bang bang chicken, crispy duck and spicy chicken. The brown rice with mushrooms is a real winner. The food was incredible. My husband was surprised with a slice of cake and the staff singing him happy birthday after we told them we were celebrating. A very nice touch. Wonderful evening at a classy restaurant. Worth every penny. Highly recommend.

We waited a long time to dine at Mr. Chow on 57th St. We decided that Christmas eve was a perfect time for an intimate, relaxing and very special meal. How wrong we were! My husband was more anxious to sample the supposedly fine Chinese food thinking it would be so much nicer than an average Chinese restaurant. We were seated at 6:05. We were out the door by 6:35. We never ever had a meal in such record time. The food was instantly placed in front of us with overlapping dishes arriving at the same time. The waiter who took our order coerced us into ordering from the Price fix menu saying we would have more value that way. We believed it to be $66 per person. When the bill came it was $76. When questioned, the waiter stated rather rudely that the filet mignon, of course, would be $76 pp. There were perhaps 7 slices of meat on this very expensive dish. Green shrimp was good. All dishes extremely salty. Food was all prepared in advance judging from the lightning speed the dishes came out in. Then after our very expensive 30 minute meal, today I looked at my credit card bill and saw that an extra $20 was added on to the bill. When I called, they removed the charge, but had I not noticed, this ridiculous dinner would have been even more expensive. Lesson learned- trust the reviews of other patrons. Many say the same thing. We tried it once. Never again!!!

My son, a family friend, and I had dinner at Mr. Chow (W. 57th St. location) last night (August 28). It was fantastic! The food and drinks were delicious and the service was exceptionally good. I cannot say enough good things about the General Manager of the establishment who greeted us so warmly and took great care to make sure we were satisfied with everything. The famous Mr. Chow noodles were very tasty with a really good meat sauce, as were the ribs, shrimp rolls and steamed dumplings. We also had the crispy beef which had a nice spicy flavor, but not overpowering; the sweet-and-sour pork; and the Kung Pao chicken for our entrees, along with some perfectly cooked vegetables and rice. We did not try the Peking duck, but saw it being carved at several tables and it smelled and looked delicious! I do not understand the negative reviews, for this restaurant is one of the best, if not the best, restaurants I have dined in that serves Asian cuisine. And I am a very picky person! The servers could not have been more accommodating and patient. It was a full house, but we were not rushed at all. It is not a tourist trap as there seemed to be many locals there. The ambiance and music were nice touches, too. And kudos to the great bartender! Thank you, to the entire Mr. Chow team, for making our evening so enjoyable! We were stuffed when we left! I also felt that the price we paid for dinner, for all the food we had, was fair. I did not think the restaurant was overpriced. As the saying goes “you get what you pay for” and we certainly got what I paid for at Mr. Chow! I cannot wait to return on a future trip to NYC!

First time in NYC with my grandson who's dad and mum said we must visit this restaurant first thing know chinese people eating or serving the food though well !!! very expensive for what you get the owner was in sitting near the bar are person running the restaurant was very good but really not impressed

Impeccable service, exciting innovative flavors, and impressive ambiance define a must-experience dining evening. Return frequently. Highly recommend!

Classic spot in New York , the drinks , the food , the service and the atmosphere make this place a real pleasure and definitely a must try .... Congrats !!

Food that we didn’t order was put on our table. And charged for. The food is definitely tasty, but overpriced. Prepare to pay USD 40 (incl. VAT and proposed tip of 20%) for an appetiser.

Ambiance kind of fun at first but food was terrible. Not ok, not passable really awful, very aggressive push to start with champagne cocktail completely off puttin

Eh... Not the best place for the fancy price.. really run down compared to the Miami one. There are much nicer Chinese places in nyc

I've heard many stories that celebrities would eat there. I was wondering how delicious it was... So I decided to go out with my family. I was very amazed how the outside looked (not very attractive) considering it is one of the top Chinese restaurant in NYC. However, the food was exceptional and the service was also wow. However i think that the menu is very small but the chef is very flexible and was able to make me a 'hot and sour soup' within 20'. I strongly recommend this place even if you do take-out.

From the seafood to the peanut butter chicken skewers to the Japanese waygu. Nothing compares to Mr . Chow . My favorite place to eat on the east coast.

Terrific food . Attentive service. No need for a menu. Ask your captain for suggestions. . Tell them what you like. And voila. Dinner!

Mr. Chow Truly good, upscale Chinese food served by extremely attentive professionals in dramatically decorated, buzzing surroundings. From the moment you enter, you are warmly greeted by the polished host. Despite the fact that this was our first visit to Mr. Chow, we were made to feel very welcome, and, from the host to the servers, careful, consistent, polished attention to detail and patrons is evident. The food is very good. The chicken satay and prawn appetizers were so very tasty. The dumplings and scallion pancakes were good. The filet mignon entree was delectable and a standout, and the velvet chicken, tofu casserole and sautéed bok choy were also yummy. Cocktails are strong. As there were 4 of us, we ordered “family style” (4 appetizers and 3 entrees with sides of rice and bok choy). We couldn’t finish everything, despite how good it was! Mr. Chow is NOT your local Chinese takeout restaurant. At Mr. Chow, patrons dress for dinner, professional staff anticipates your requests, and quality ingredients are very well prepared, all resulting in quite a delightful (and yes, pricey) dining experience.

This is one hidden gem. It's was great can't complain about any think the food was so fresh and well cooked great service a must go place

I have been craving good authentic Chinese food and this place had a NYC Restaurant Week menu. We did not realize how wonderful the location was. This place is VERY expensive. The restaurant week prefixed menu is a fabulous family style mix of amazing dishes at a fraction of the regular prices. We had every item since there was four of us seated at our table. The service was impeccable and the decor and setting was gorgeous and polished. We will return again. (At the right time of course)

Very disappointed Went expecting a high quality Chinese meal in great surroundings and ended up being squashed elbow to elbow in a row of tiny tables with other diners. The waiter was pushy and obviously encouraged to turn tables as fast as possible didn't even know what I wanted when I asked Beansprouts! Overall quality and presentation of the food didn't come close to my local takeaway!! The final insult after this very disappointing experience was the waiter challenging me for not leaving a tip!! I had a couple of tips in mind but kept them to myself!!

Been to uptown many times over the years, so Tribeca space is slightly bigger/outdoor space in the summer- Fall. No counting the private room on 57st. restaurant. Everything is delicious here, beef/chicken satay, spicy green shrimps, fried blk seaweed, diced squab with lettuce leaves,Black squid ink noodles, fried rice.etc. I prefer the Peking duck with pancakes and scallion/cucumber. Crispy duck is cheaper than the Peking, is fried and it's fine to order. It may be high on the prices but worth it.

That restaurant can give you an unbelievable experience that can never be forgotten. I really recommend it from my experiment over there after having many great dinners that one was just better than the other. The restaurant has very special meals from the Chinese cuisine.

I know this restaurant has been around forever and seems to be in a major time warp- think late 80s early 90s- but, if you allow yourself to be transported to a different time it kindof works. To start, and let's make no bones about it, its expensive. But the service/showmanship and food are good and are worth a trip back. We got the famed squab lettuce wraps, which are not actually squab, fortunately it was chicken, and it was fresh and delicious. The pot stickers were served beautifully, covered by an edible lace top and there were many of them. The appetizers were on the larger size and 2 appetizers would be plenty for a meal. I also got the Filet Mignon, which was expensive and a modest portion but was really delicious. I would come back for that. The noodle making show made us smile, even though it was a little cheesy. While Mr. Chow's is not the place for a lot of occasions, it fits the bill if you are seeking a fun/cheesy night with good food.

I love the food here and the ability to mix and match. The service was slow at times like getting the bill. I did not like the table set up where tables for two were only had a few inches between them. I felt like we were sitting with a bunch of strangers and I could hear everyone's conversation

There was nothing good about this place. First, when seating two people, the tables are so close together they have to pull them out so you can get in and out, what a joke. You are so jammed in you are almost sitting on your strange neighbors lap. Forget about having a private conversation. The food is average and you get small very small portions for what you are paying. I had to go somewhere else after because I was still hungry. The staff is very pretentious and snobby. This place only cares about money. Getting you in and out turning over their tables as fast as possible and jamming as many people into one room to maximize their profits. One of the worst dining experiences I have had in a lonnnngg time. I totally regret ever going to this restaurant.

Absolutely over rated. Food was average at best, waiters constantly forgot drink orders but charged for them. With all the options in Manhattan Mr Chow, there is fair better at more reasonable prices. Maria opposite Columbus circle is a little more expensive but served 4 courses of dishes that were ll amazing and a far better dining experience

Our son wanted to have Chinese food and tried out Mr. Chow one night when we were visiting New York City. I have not dined at Mr. Chow before so I have no previous reference but being a Hong Kong resident I have a taste buds that you can trust. The menu was a great vintage 🤣🤣🤣The service was great and the food was served hot. Presentation and dishes that they used were like the time I was 6 years old. The food was yummy. Needless to say more, just closely examine my food photos and make a dinner reservation.

Dining room great upscale appeal with a hint of artdeco design. Staff is lightening fast and efficient. The menu is very Americanized Chinese but very good. Take it for what it is. Great restaurant for a special event or a first date. This one can have a reasonable price tag but can accelerate out of hand quickly with the Champaign cart circulating freely. Fun place. Orchids and flower displays are extraordinary. Great for kids.

We had a delicious dinner. Especially the crab was outstanding. The cook did a stand up (making noodles - very impressive) make reservations very nice place. We really enjoyed it

We are clients and fans of the London restaurant and wanted to have decent Chinese food so reserved for Saturday at 9 pm. We had to wait for 25/30 min to be seated. Small tables close to each other as in London .staff is nicer though , helpful and not arrogant . The food is good as expected, but service is very slow . Main problem is the level of noise : loud music and loud customers . Would give it a try on a Monday !! Hopefully without the loud music

You can't be the service or the food. Every time we're in town we always eat at Mr. Chow. The food is delicious, the service is impeccable and we always enjoy ourselves. We even love the noodle presentation by the chef even though we've seen it a million times.

Heard so much about this place but didn't find it more than good. Ok staff and good food but for the price I don't get it. The food is cooked well and some good tastes (especially one meet course we had) but it wasn't extraordinary in any way according to us.

A New York classic that is well alive and kicking. Great food, great service, and delightful experience. Even though I was a bit surprised by the general “not packed” all over the City.

Wish I could tell you exactly what was ordered. Visited Manhattan with family and was treated with this gem. Appetizers were out of this world. Our waiter offered a special selection, couldn’t tell if it was on the menu or just his suggestion. You will not be disappointed. Don’t forget to try the coconut ice served on a coconut shell. One of the most memorable meals in NY. 5 stars!!!!

Love, love, love this place. We are all from out of town and have heard so much about Mr. Chow's that we wanted to try it. I went to Mr. Chows this past weekend, with my family and friends, and not only had a blast but highly enjoyed everything we had from the fish, soup dumplings, potstickers, filet mignon, crispy beef, chicken satay to the hot sauce that came with the food. Also the lychee martinis are delicious and the dessert was excellent. Mr. Chow's lives up to the hype and sure the food is expensive but the food and service are all 5 stars! I highly recommend and can't wait to go back!

Mr. Chows provided us with a great experience. The food was incredible and the customer service was five star.

NO THANK YOU: I find the servers to be obnoxious. They are clear as to what they want you to eat and if you don't want to do it their way, well they'll show you.............that's what I wrote 5 years ago. Last night we went with friends and the men let the women order. They were pushed into twice as much as anyone needed to eat. Now, the food is good but service is much too fast............we slowed them down and they weren't happy about it. Dinner cost $250/couple and there was no reason for it. NEVER AGAIN

This is literally the worst restaurant in Manhattan. I watched them kick two innocent girls out of the restaurant. The girls were just trying to have an enjoyable dinner and a nice night out for restaurant week and the manager came over and asked them to leave... all because some dumb, stupid upper east side housewife asked them not to curse... wait for it.. in front of her LITERALLY 25-year old daughter. like are you joking??!!! Your stupid kid is an ADULT. GET. OVER. IT. Not only that, but I was sick for HOURS after eating here. food poisoning times 1 million. I had bloody stool, constant vomiting and nonstop diarrhea for about 72 hours.

We visited mr.Chow's for a special occasion and it was worth it. Interior is clean, amazing, nice, good vibes. The service is out of this world, employees are very polite and wonderfull. Foord is like heaven, everything is prepared with taste. They have very good supply of champagnes, wines. Book early so you get the table. I will defenetly go back next time I will be visiting NY, it is the ultimate asian restaurant with elegance and very very good tastefull food.

Delicious food, great atmosphere, friendly staff. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to any visitors to New York. Beats the food we had in China Town!

Fantastic food definitely worth the hype. An amazing experience. Would recommend to all. Must do the crispy beef as well as the baby bok choy. The dumplings and chicken satte were out of this world.

Had high expectations but left feeling disappointed. Restaurant is beautful and staff were clearly pros, but let's get to the important stuff: the food. Though some items were outstanding, more than a few were just so-so. Given the reputation and cost, I was hoping to be blown away. Instead I felt cheated. Perhaps the food was mind-blowing many years ago. Check'd the box and doubtful I'll dine there again.

Our friends brought us to Mr. Chow for a wonderful evening with them, and a pop-cultural experience I'd not anticipated. We had a really nice evening. Loved watching the chef make the noodles! I was confused..there were no chopsticks :)

Mr. Chow is honestly not even on par with a suburban mall food court's typical Chinese option. It is an utter waste of money and there are a thousand better restaurants in Manhattan alone. Don't waste your money on these bland, tasteless tiny portions of so-called Chinese cuisine. To put it mildly, we were highly disappointed by the food from top to bottom. A couple of the dishes were barely edible and for $30-40 each. The Velvet Chicken and Mr. Chow noodles were particularly memorable for how bad they were. This is definitely not fine dining. Any decent Chinatown restaurant would be far superior. Also, the hostess was non-responsive and obnoxious to top it off.

I've been to several Mr. Chow locations in the US and have always enjoyed the style, decor and the food is always good but often not great. I hadn't been to the 57th street location in 15 years but wanted to share with a friend who lives near by. Place was packed on a Saturday night mostly by tourists who must assume they have to pay top dollar for the experience. We had the turnip balls, the Mr. Chow noodles and the Gambler's duck, 5 drinks and two coffees for dessert. Bill totaled $ 188 without tip. Service was attentive but some of the touches are gone along with an entrance that rusted out along time ago. Still it has the flair of the old days and had the usual performance of the chef making the noodles. My friend was happy but my memory of the first visit still shines brighter.

Good food, priced well for the quality of the food. Would definitely come back here in the future. Also service is nice.

I travel all over the country and eat at many wonderful restaurants. I am also one who is a very generous tipper and this is only the SECOND time in my 50 years of life that I have given a penny tip. THe food here is simply NOT good especially for the price you pay. If you paid about 1/4 of what they charge then yes worth it but that is NOT the case here. The waiter bragged about how incredible the food was and it was fried and hard, SOAKED in their speciality sauces, and not flavorful. If you read the many reviews that I give I just don't give rough reviews but I had to here. STAY AWAY

Service was rather mediocre, the atmosphere a bit old fashioned. Although the Food was pretty decent it was in no way worth the money. I'm not going again.

Best Pecking duck in the city!!! every time i'm in NYC I have to go to MR chow's!! it's pricy but it is absolutely worth it!! the service is excellent and the food is to die for!!

We and many other patrons waited over an hour past the reservation time. Manager said it was a system glitch and did nothing to improve the situation. Service was mediocre and tables were too close together. Food was good but nothing is worth the long wait and unpleasant atmosphere. Go elsewhere.

We had dinner at this restaurant with my friends. In the guides it is listed among the best in NY for Chinese cuisine. Our experience was very bad; poor quality food, we opted for a tasting menu for 4 even though we were 8 recommended by the waiter, but in the end there were 7 menus charged on the bill. The dishes were basic like in any Chinese restaurant in the world, poor quality and a very high bill (160 dollars each) - among the dishes there was a fish and in the end they brought us another type, justifying it by saying that they don't work fresh food. The service was also of a poor standard (they literally took the plate away from us even though some of us were still eating, they poured water, filling the glass to the brim and then charged 8 bottles to the bill). Furthermore, the place claims to be elegant but instead it is old and in very poor condition - the chairs and table were wobbly. In short, I don't recommend it. The current management is probably different than in the past considering the positive reviews, but currently it is not a place worthy of its fame.

We were looking forward for a good Chinese dinner. But it was a bad experience!!! The food was terrible!!! And expensive for what they serve you... looked as a cheap place. But the worse was the service. The waiter forced us to order an extra plate, that we couldnt order just two dishes... and apart from forcing us to order, he rushed us... in a very bad mood!!!!! HORRIBLEEEEE The only good thing was the second waiter, Carlos, who treated us very nicely. Apart the horrible food, terrible service, slow, cold and expensive. DONT GO

Every time I visit NYC I have to visit Mr. Chow. We usually head to Tribeca but this trip we visited the East side. We were not disappointed. Smaller and more intimate, the fantastic service is the same. We always go for the tasting menu and enjoy every bite. Walnut shrimp, green prawns, fluffy crab in a shell, scallops dress with soy, barbecued beef dish, baby bok choy, shrimp fried rice. Pure heaven. Yes, very prices but what a treat.

This is a place that got almost everything you need to spend a nice evening Pretty setting and well mannered staff and nice looking people We started with lots of dumplings and other little good The green shrimps were delicious. The crab as well, the chicken excellent and so was the Peking Duck with a fried vegetable rice, good drinks.... don’t ask about price ,I was a guest..... but I’m sure it’s expensive I will go back

The food was good but not for the price. Way, way, way too crowded for an enjoyable meal unless you bring your own large group. Our server was not good but the rest of the support staff were the best. They were entertainment themselves as observed them being excellent at their jobs. If you love it then get it to go. We had reservations and arrived 10 minutes early and were seated right away. We had noted on our opentable reservation we were celebrating a birthday but they didn't even note it. Our server at Nobu did without me even reminding them.

Slow service, over priced, poor food quality and poor value for money. Not recommended and will defiantly not wast my money at the pace again!!

The environment is very agreeable and the service correct. Incredible sort of delicious appetizers and main courses.

Food was very tasty and the duck was amazing. The place was heaving, very cramped and rather tired looking. We were entertained by someone making noodles but I am not sure how they can justify $66 per head for an average Chinese meal. Overrated and over priced.... I have have had better Chinese from my local takeaway that costs a fraction of the price...

Tables far too close together, food hugely overpriced for what if was ,service really bad we were given someone else dish and the the 2 main courses turned up about 20 minutes apart, just a really noisy pretentious place .

Everything about this Resturant is amazing from the decoration to the staff and most importantly the food but I had a tiny problem I made a reservation for a party of 2 and they told me that my table will be ready at 9:45 I arrived in time but I didn't get my table till 10:10 and the waiting area by the bar was full so I had to stand by the door for 25 minutes , anyways once I was seated and they brought the food it was all forgotten they're chicken satay heals everything .

This restaurant has no handicap accessible bathrooms. The dining room is down several steep stairs. When asked about access to the dining area for handicapped people I was flippantly told they were grandfathered in under the ADA and had no provisions made for customers who had mobility issues. The food ranges from very good — Peking duck — to fried sugary crap — crispy beef. It is badly overpriced. But this restaurant has given the finger to the handicapped and mobility impaired — completely unapologetic Stay away, save your money, and stand up for your handicapped parents, friends, and colleagues.

The food was ok and expensive. I do not mind expensive when the food and service are special but this was just expensive. We had 4 appetizers and main courses which the waiter suggested for the 4 of us. It was too much food and none of the dishes including the peking (beijing) duck went beyond average. The service was not very friendly either. I have eaten Chinese food all over the world and have spent less than 1/3 of the $515 bill for great food in many other restaurants.

My husband and I went to Mr Chow 57th ST for dinner during the restaurant week-- we went there sometime. The food was awful, I might only have 1/3 that time. Around 10pm, my husband started to throw up 4 times with little fever, we called them right way, but they gave us their legal assistant phone, because of this my husband had to stay home for 2 days. We will not go back this awful place any more, that was really scaring me.

Hospitality was great, sometimes over the top, food was good but doesn't justify, at all, the price that came with it. Many other options out there.

My new wife and I visited here on a recommendation from friends on the last day of our honeymoon. I am delighted to say the best had been saved for last. Unfortunately, we weren't aware that Mr Chow was a dress up sort of place and turned up in shorts and Tshirts having spent a day shopping and sightseeing. The staff (dressed in tuxedos) could not have been more welcoming and were not perturbed by our standard of dress. On being seated the champagne trolly was wheeled over for our perusal and my wife opted for the peach Bellini, which was an absolute treat. We then opted for the waiters recommendation and had two starters and two mains to share - the food was absolutely exquisite and as per the headline, best meal of the honeymoon. The check was the most expensive meal we had eaten, however, the superb service and fantastic food meant we had no hesitation to settle up and leave a good tip. We will definitely be back next time in NYC!

We ordered many dishes, but the best one for me was de peking duck It was amazing. Definitely try it! The place and the service is very good.

the waiters make a terrible job!!!! They try to push you to eat what you dont want!!! Very unpolide!!!!! And the price is crazy because the food is not that good!!!

Asian food done very well. They have a great ordering system of prefix for the number of appetizers and antrees per couple and if you partake in it, side dishes are included in the price. It is a much better deal if you order this way than ala carte. We enjoyed the chicken and duck dishes with the bok choy and rice side dishes. Their popular dishes are marked and definitely are worth a try. They have a full bar and their cocktails are also delicious. The wait staff is dressed impeccably in tuxedos and are very consistent so they are able to turn tables quickly - this is a good thing as it improves service in between courses. The only tough part of the meal is how loud the atmosphere is - it's hard to hear each other across the table for a nice conversation - rather you end up hearing the conversations at the tables next to you as it is very close seating and tables have to be pulled out to have allow you to leave after dinner. If you are up for a hip, happening busy spot - this is the one to visit after shopping on 5th avenue.

Went to Mr. Chow’s for the Peking duck which we come to find is only made for 3 or more and alas there were two of us. Not to fear, a delightful neighboring couple was in the same predicament and invited us to join them. This was just the beginning of an enjoyable evening with some of the best “Chinese” I’ve had in ages. The staff was wonderful; attentive professional service, these folks do all they can to make your dinner memorable. Go with 3 or more and order the special duck menu that comes with 6 or 7 additional dishes- each one fresh and flavorful.

We enjoyed our dinner but felt like the staff wanted us to hurry up to free up oir table. Probably will not return as one would expect better service for the price paid.

This is an extremely nice place from the 70's with a depressed dining area and an upstairs bar. The decor is straight from a Woody Allen movie. Food was of a varied quality, in general it was a bit bland and it lacked authenticity and flavor, I think it had been heavily Americanized. The duck was especially bad and had no crispiness. I was here for a party and the hosts had the charming detail of sending us a few glasses of Opus One while we were waiting for the coats - a-ma-zing!!!

So, this is a very dramatic setting with extremely good food. The service is very good. There is a tendency to skew towards the dramatic with the service staff. But, it is a really fun place to eat that is evocative of a bygone era of glamor. So, a little camp can be taken with fun "excuse me waiter, I don't know how to serve this without making a mess" To which he replied, "well, I doubt if I can do it any better than you, but I will try". The quality of the food is amazing. The overall service experience, without regard to the true exchange relayed in the previous sentence, is flawless and efficient. This is really a fun, elegant and memorable experience.

Seriously have had better for 1/4 of the price. Crispy beef was tasteless, velvet chicken even more so - service was average - requested help with a cab as my husband has walking difficulties “walk down the street and grab your own” was the response. Went to celebrate my birthday and left feeling very flat after what can only be described as an overpriced and underwhelming experience. Mr Chow - please take note - treat your clients as individuals! I asked for the bill and yet you gave it to my husband - biggest insult and very out of date!

Mr Chows is modern Chinese cuisine. Decorated by a calder mobil, I miss the original Lalique Cristal doors. Need to have the green shrimp, algae seaweed, Then Peking Duck and the chinese noodles.

Mr Chow is an upscale Asian- Chinese very classy restaurant on 57th and 2nd. It is has nice mixed crowd. Service is extremely attentive and pleasant. Food is delicious and refined. Not your typical Chinese restaurant

Monday night to me is the best night to dine out. Usually the service and food are not rushed as no restaurant has a packed house. Not the case at MC! There were more staff than customers so something was amiss. I didn’t face the room so I could only experience the lack of coordination not see it. Food was not as good as your neighborhood take away. Portions are tiny and I felt sorry for the host I’m sure the bill for five people with a few drinks was close to a thousand dollars Crispy beef was more like crispy coating. MC noodles looked great but sauce had zero taste. I only enjoyed the 28.00 dumplings. Duck looked like it had been dumped in a fryer as the skin was tough and chewy. Shop small and dine out in your hood don’t waste your money

We ordered Peking Duck “carved tableside” as stated in the menu. But it was not! Brought carved on a plate to our table”. Chef is very busy was the excuse! AT APPROACHING $100 INC TAXES AND SERVICE - this is downright DISRESPECTFULL and a scam! Mr Chow, remember you customers! At approaching $100 it

What a disappointment and let down....... Having ordered a full course Peking duck, we were only served a one course recipe. Although that was not too bad, the pancakes and the duck skin being OK; it was quite very far from what is expected of what they indicated as one of the best Peking duck in the world...... Besides the bill was highly enormous, and surely was so much overvalued. The place itself is not very attractive either. Only the service was up to standard. Overall not a place to recommend at all.

We were this week a party of 4 , the food was great ,the service was excellent , all of us enjoy the food and atmosphere

Outrageously expensive. I have been there twice, and a dinner for two can run upwards of 150 without alcohol and still snacking later at home. A big dinner for two can go 400 without breaking a sweat. The food is good, and the service is extremely good, but the prices will lower many people's view upon leaving. This is a treat place, where you are going to look at the place you are having dinner at. Or if you have an expense account. But, anything more than once every couple of years would probably be too much. It is an experience, but there are other experiences that can be had in New York.

Wow! What a ripoff! Minuscule portions of good -- but not life changing -- Chinese food. $36 for the chicken pictured. Most Chinese restaurants would provide 3x the food for about $12. Baby bok choy pictured - $15 instead of $4. Absolutely ridiculous. If you want to be price gouged, come here. Otherwise, go elsewhere. Total outrage.

In New York celebrating my mums 60th birthday with our girlfriends. This restaurant was recommended by a stranger so was a bit of a gamble....... but sometimes that's what you need to do. We absolutely loved it. It has a busy fun atmosphere with the most amazing staff ever!!! To top it off my mother is so fussy (that's why it was a gamble) but again nothing was a problem. Thank you Mr Chow!!! X

Although the food and drinks were good, the service was terrible. The wait staff doesn’t explain the menu, refuses to let you order single items, and pressures into the price fix overpriced menu leaving you with so much food leftover. Gluttony at its finest. They bully and intimidate you and I’m disappointed I gave them my money. We should have left after the first sign of it. Not worth it and there are plenty of other restaurants to enjoy in Manhattan without being treated that way. Stay away.

Unfortunately last night a friend of mine invited me for dinner at this joint. The place is so chaotic that you can not have a conversation across the table. If on top of this you add the poor quality of the food the ruddiness of the service you have a complete picture of this place. By the way....the clientele...... do you remember the Soprano's ...they were there for dinner...

One of the best and original Mr Chow. Food is expensive and you generally need to book. But this place is the place to be for incredible Chinese food made Mr Chow way. Also get to see a lot of celebrities eating out here. Be prepared to pay but it is absolutely worth it. I will be back for sure

We went for dinner and it was delicious... The lettuce wraps and duck is superb! The service is also very good, they come to your table to help you decide on your options so you have the best experience! If you're looking for a calm abiance and great food, this is a place to do no doubt!!!!

Fancy Chinese restaurant. Enjoyed the appetizers like the chicken satay and dumplings. The green prawns were the best of the entrees we ordered. The Gamblers crispy duck and Ma Mignon were good but not great. It wasn’t worth the $500 for dinner for 4 people with one drink each. Service was excellent.

My husband and I had reservations there last Sunday night and was so impressed with the attentive service and delicious meal. We did not have the duck but had a phenomenal meal. The place settings, table decor and staff could not have been better. Thank you for a very romantic and scrumptious meal. Would go there again and again!

Mr. Chow is an artist, both in visual arts and culinary! All of his restaurants showcase his love of art - there's even a no smoking sign on the wall at this location by Keith Haring! The food is superb! Must haves are potstickers, chicken satay, Mr. Chow noodles, and Glazed Prawn with Walnut. Service is usually top notch - ask for booth on the side in advance for better people watching!

Ambiance was fun. Prices are insane for the value of the food. Seriously, expensive even for NYC. We had mixed reaction to the food in our group. My husband and I thought the food was mostly bland and they put nothing but hot sauce on the table. The younger folks thought it was great. Skip the sole (very bland) but the dumplings were great. The veggies were excellent for Chinese. The duck was better than average but doesn't touch Peking Gourmet in Arlington, Va. Service was excellent but you did feel a bit rushed. It is a small space and crowded but we thought that was fun.

I visited the restaurant in November 2018. The People are nice and the service is good. But if you not Common with the Food the menu is a little bit complicated and there is no online menu available. So the Service was good they arange some kind of food together, but maybe if i understand the menu i have something better. And another Point is that the atmosphere was very very loud i had real Problems to understand what my neighboor is Talking. Maybe Not next Time sorry.

Been going here for 25 years and it is still the best Peking duck in this planet. The food has always been consistent and incredible!

This one it seems the best Chinese restaurant in the city. Really teasty food and well be served. The staff are professional, even though it is small place.

Visited on Saturday evening with several family members, we had a reservation so no problems there. As other commentators have mentioned the ordering of the food is more like a fixed menu than people ordering individual dishes, so don't expect your regular Chinese style pick and choose menu. To be really honest, which i am with all my reviews, the expectation sadly did not meet reality. The service was good, i have no comments there, however the food was mediocre at best. Again as other commentators have mentioned, you can find just as good if not better food at a average Chinese restaurant . Seriously, if you read this review, save your cash and go somewhere else.

Booked this place a month in advance for valentines night but never knew it was a pre set menu. Not N issue but would liked to have known. Service was confused about our table for the first 20 minutes so it took awhile to get a drink or menu. After initial confusion all was well. Excellent food, buttered lobster and bejing chicken were excellent, chicken lettuce wraps and walnut shrimp were also excellent, service improved and valentines dinner was great! $41 for a glass of rosé champagne is a bit high considering it's not that much at the Plaza!
To flee
Terrible dinner. Arriving by chance in front of the restaurant on a Saturday evening, there were still free places on the terrace... we should have been careful. Super expensive dishes, extremely fatty, drowned in sweet sauce and chili certainly to mask the taste. Very very poor value for money for us. However, crowded restaurant, they must like it.
