Great experience

By Tourist557636 |

Went to New York with my family and was staying not to far from the restaurant. my wife who loves Indian food made the pick. We were not disappointed at all. Food was terrific and service was very efficient and extremely cordial. Will definitely recommend

Wonderful experience all around!

By rocket917 |

Excellent food and service. The tastiest saag paneer I've ever had, and we also had Aloo Gobhi which was very flavorful, perfectly spicy balance (for our palette) and very flavorful naan and parathas. Our host (we believed him to be the owner/manager) was extremely gracious and friendly, as were the waitstaff. Wonderful experience all around.

All-Around Excellence

By Ginger R |

I highly recommend this restaurant's nicely spiced, classic Indian dishes. We liked them so much we went back for a second meal, taking friends. We couldn't resist ordering two of the same vegetarian entrees: saag paneer and vegetable korma. Don't miss the naan and samosas.

Excellent

Treated like Royalty!

Many many reasons to exclaim "Ah! A delectable and sumptuous East Indian meal!" Atmosphere is quaint in size and style, yet very cheery, well appointed with accompanying traditional Indian music in the background, not too loud. Goat curry is tender, fragrant in a lush brown sauce, ornamented with fresh cardammon pods. Baingan Bhartha is simply the finest, with charred egglplant in the mix. Methi Malai Matar, as recommended to us by co-Owner and Mgr. Deepak, was exquisitely original, and made from a compound of mashed nuts and peas. To end the meal, the best tea pot / cups of chai, brewed with an in-house made tea masala. Everything is made to order and from a scratch kitchen, farm to table ingredients used. I was sincerely most impressed and appreciative. The service was by far some of the BEST I have ever received in any restaurant I have ever dined in. A perfect meal while visiting New York City! Give it a whirl. You will be absolutely delighted you did.

This place is a gem.

Have eaten here twice in one week. We were introduced by a friend on a Monday, came back on Wednesday because we were near (near enough!) and craving it. Superb, distinctive renditions of the classics. Also a super-friendly and attentive staff -- absolutely no strained formality, the way you sometimes get, either in the decor or the people. I've been to Haldi, and Kokum, and lots of other supposed stars of Curry Hill, but in my view this place beats them handily (especially Haldi -- what a disappointment), and at a gentler price, too.

Some Really Good, Some Just OK

By CollegeParent45 |

This restaurant was close to my hotel, had good reviews, and I was looking forward to trying their chicken tandoori. The atmosphere is nice and the price is reasonable for NYC. We started with naan and raita and the Lasuni Gobi, fried cauliflower florets in a red sauce - delicious! My chicken tandoori, unfortunately, was disappointing. Chicken was flavorful but a bit dry, and the side vegetables were flavorless and barely warm. The wait staff were friendly and helpful, and when we mentioned it was my friend's birthday, they brought us a complimentary rice pudding, which was tasty. I would go again just for the appetizers but would try something other than the tandoori next time.

Excellent Indian Cuisine

By Gerald H |

Absolutely superb Indian food! This one was a short walk from The Hilton Garden Inn on E 33rd St, very near Murray Hill neighborhood. Our group had several choice and all were very good; was not too busy and plenty of food, the Naan Bread was outstanding. Friendly staff. I would highly recommend and definitely return here.

Excellent authentic Indian food!

By Kirby H |

My wife & I came for an early dinner, despite being very busy, the found us a table, I had the chicken Tikka masala, and my wife had the chicken Kurma. Both dishes were excellent. The service was quick & friendly I can highly recommend this restaurant for delicious authentic Indian food.

Great little find..

By Knight0n |

As good as any curry I have eaten in the UK. If this place was on more obvious avenues in NYC it would make a killing. Great food, friendly and attentive staff. Competitively priced. Would recommend this to anyone looking for tasty Indian food.

Really great Indian food!

By Edward D. |

I really loved the experience here! The décor is charming, with lovely light fixtures and some touches that give you the feel that you are in an Indian restaurant. The service is excellent—staff are friendly and helpful, if you have questions or want a suggestion. The food is delicious, with all the dishes you’d expect to find (samosas, lamb Vindaloo, wonderful tandoori breads) & they have great Indian beer to wash it all down. This place is worth a visit!

Excellent Indian food on the upper east side

By 943rons |

This restaurant is actually on 1724 2nd Ave on the upper east side of Manhattan. The food was fabulous, and the service was very pleasant. The vegetarian options were excellent, and the goat was equally great. We would absolutely go back.

Great Indian food

By JayMo17 |

Have been to restaurant about half a dozen times and the food is always so good. Great flavours, good service and a wide menu with lots of choices. Only hesitation in recommending this place so highly is that it is quite small and would hate to find it always packed so that hard to get a reservation. In fairness to the restaurant, though, it deserves to be very busy. Definitely worth going beyond the usual suspects on Lexington for some quality Indian cuisine.

Perfect...

By effel33 |

Just after a very long visit to Ground Zero, perfect for an excellent Indian lunch, elaborate, varied, authentic cuisine, with very copious portions... the servers are considerate and attentive, and the final note full of balance... a great time...

Great Indian Food

By mrenner625 |

We never ate much Indian food before but it was great! We ordered numerous dishes to share and none were a disappointment! Prices were good too!

Just okay

By robertcm683 |

Half price for lunch. Had vegetable pakoras, which were not flavorful. Two sauces and also purchased chopped onions. Main was aloo gobi mutter, which is cauliflower, potatoes and peas in sauce. Cauliflower not cooked enough and dish was slightly warmed. Also plain naan, which was good. Food served too quickly. Seemed to have a busy take out business.

India temple-to-temple

By Edward Gray |

The place is small, comfortable and has a glass wall fronting 3rd Av. We sat overlooking the street. The staff were friendly and attentive and the prices good. (More on the food below.) I ate in Kharajaho on my trip to India two years earlier. I remember eating Peneer for first time at a roof top restaurant overlooking the town's famous temples. Kingfishers, Nan and Puri conveyed from the kitchen downstairs nonstop as I ate with my new Indian friends. The setting this night was quite different but the food here reminded me of that night in the Indian countryside. Saag peneer (spinach and cheese spiced just shy of Kharajaho) made for a memorable last meal during my New York visit. I'll be back.

Fresh, delicious, fast

By Ryan M |

Ordered take out here recently and it was some of the best Indian food I've had in a long time. Really fresh tasting and down right delicious. They also called me to let me know that my food was ready to pick up which was very courteous. Friendly service at the restaurant when I went to pick it up. All around a great place, definitely recommend it.

Tasty food

By LouiseB1977 |

Great place and food. Staff very welcoming. A nice menu with a variety of choice. The restaurant is quite small and neighbouring tables close but this didn’t bother us. It gave a welcoming feel. We visited on a Sunday night. It was busy and we hadn’t booked but were accommodated within 20 mins of waiting. Would highly recommend.

Great local find

By Ekaterini71 |

Great food, good prices, but the best part is the welcoming service. It's genuine, subtle and respectful. Ask them to recommend dishes, we weren't disappointed!

Amazing Indian Food--Some Dishes Gluten and Dairy Free!

By Hypatia18 |

The owner/host was wonderful in directing me to dishes that are gluten and dairy free. Answered a ton of questions and delivered amazing "Delhi" Indian food. Will be back and gave this restaurant's business cards to several of our NYC friends.

Fantastic Preparation with Nice Menu and Setting

By Fred Z |

Dined here and had a relaxed and enjoyable Indian meal dinner with a small group. The grilled salmon was a recommendation and it was a winner. Solid Nan choices and vindaloo with spinach paneer was tasty. Definitely will be returning..... Sebastian was a great server.

Tasty!

By Patricia G |

Delicious yellow dal, onion nan and onion baji. Chicken Makhani was good. Atmosphere relaxed and waiter very attentive. Very enjoyable and would definitely come back again.

Simply delicious

Super delicious food. Were two in peace dinner. Great value for money and extremely friendly and helpful staff. Gladly any time again.

50% lunch special and delicious food!

By Olivia H |

It was pissing with rain and we wanted a cheap eats. We were drawn in by the 50% off lunch special - where everything on the menu was half price! The food was really delicious. Indian food is very good in UK, so it was high competition, but they impressed us. Friendly staff too.

Amazing staff, amazing food and Worth the $$ you pay for the food. Keep up the good work.

By Esha |

Amazing service and worth the price you pay for the food. They look after their clients well. Quantity of the food was great and quality was just as amazing. Love it

The best Indian in Manhattan!

By THESUPERFRANK |

We had a group of 10 for dinner and they did everything to make us feel welcome. Our consensus was that the food was some of the best Indian in Manhattan! The service was attentive, the owner genuinely kind, and the evening simply perfect. Last night we ordered again for delivery and the food was so delicious! Consistent. Mughlai is now our go to for Indian cuisine.

Good little Indian

By ShazyD |

After eating too much diner food, we just fancied something a bit different and this place fitted the bill. Prices were reasonable, the waiter suggested I try something new, which I enjoyed. Portions are generous and the naan bread was outstanding.

Very good

By Amy M |

Lovely experience. Went to eat here with my mom on our trip to New York. It was her first time trying Indian food and she loved it. The staff was very friendly and helpfull. The food tasted really good, prices very descent.

Nice decor, great food, great service

By RekhaK |

A really nice spot for authentic North Indian Cuisine. For an appetizer try Lasuni Gobi (deep fried cauliflower tossed in a garlic tomato sauce). They offer both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. I had the paneer makhani (a classic favorite) with roti (bread). All dishes come with rice. The decor is beautiful and service is excellent. The manager even brought us complimentary dessert. Limited beer & wine options are offered on the menu. Conveniently located near the subway.

Average Indian Cuisine - Unfortunately Nothing Special

By Pamela-Leslie |

I go to a lot of Indian restaurants and am married to someone from India so I am a great judge of what is a great value. We went for lunch which they offer 50% off the dinner menu but when we ordered the entree dish and asked what came with the order, we were told nothing comes with it. Rice is an extra expense! I found this incredibly strange because most Indian places basically just about offer lunch buffets at the same price that this place offers 50% off. While the food was average I found the tandoori chicken and the Papadum were lacking in flavor and had no zest. The "tandoori vegetables that came with the chicken were literally american mixed vegetables (the kind that are frozen before cooked). I was astonished. We watched someone eat the chicken Biryani with Nan which is probably the way to go since rice is part of that dish. I was not impressed at all which was disappointing to say the least.

Delicious food, but very overpriced

By Nelson P |

I guess you get the same value for what you pay here compared to other restaurants in Manhattan. It's a cozy place with room for maybe 30 people. I went for the lunch special of 50% off the menu prices and ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala with some Naan bread on the side after I was informed it didn't come with rice and bread. I thought for it's regular price of $13.95, the Chicken would be huge and inclusive of rice and bread. When they brought out the food, the Chicken was tiny and there were only 5-6 pieces in a small bowl. Don't get me wrong, the food was delicious and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who isn't worried about a budget or who doesn't have a big stomach. If I were paying the full $13.95 for this, I would have walked out when they presented the dish to me. Other than my disappointment in the portion size, I found the restaurant environment to be quite cozy and nice with attentive waiters and staff.

The best

By Macy |

Best Indian food I’ve had in my life. Highly recommend. Everything was so good. The bread was very fresh and perfect. I ordered rice, chickpeas, & cauliflower. So many great options on the menu and also vegetarian friendly.

Excellent Indian cuisine in a friendly, non-pressurred environment.

By Dedejch |

Pleasantly surprised by the extensive menu, wonderful food and helpful wait staff. Only 'complaint' is that one dish was was too hot (lamb budja) and didn't correspond to the description. Appetizers were excellent, three of four main courses were very enjoyable and the free dessert much appreciated. I highly recommend Bughlai - just ask about seasoning.

Amazing food served by en adorable staff

By Mel |

Stepped in this restaurant with no expectations because the prices were reasonable. We ordered 3 different types of food, and all of them were excellent. The staff was extremely polite and really nice. They even offered us a free dessert for the simple reason that they found us nice.

Great Indian food in Gramercy Area

By A B |

This was one of the closest restaurants near The Marcel. Went twice in 3 days. Dinner was great - had to try Mughlai style spices. Navratan Korma highly recommended too. On last day went for lunch before leaving NYC. Half price lunch was a plus.

Amazing

By akelly125 |

The food is out of this world. If you love Indian food then this is the place for you. In the center of many Indian restaurants this is far the best. The chief is amazing and the service is wonderful.

Superb Indian food in New York.

By huwlloyd |

We had two meals at this excellent restaurant, and if you enjoy Indian cuisine, this place is a must. There is a huge choice, and every meal we had was delicious. The staff are both charming and attentive, and prices are more than acceptable.

A mixed blessing

By TibetTrader |

It's a shame that you can't post a three-and-a-half score here - as this restaurant is just above the average, but doesn't quite qualify (in our view) for a "very good". The basic food and cooking is certainly good and the portion sizes (as in most NYC restaurants) gargantuan, but there was a lack of subtlety for our palates. The Spinach Chicken dish was excellent, but the Vindaloo was simply hot, without depth. The young staff members are excellent but we found the older manager a bit forbidding - he's probably done being pleasant to everyone! Worth a visit, no matter what this review says!

Nice Indian restaurant on 3rd Ave

By StephenCross |

Mughlai Indian Restaurant is on 3rd between 24 and 25 street. Food is good and service also good. Prices are very reasonable for NY! Recommended.

Two maybe three

By Tomberra |

We wanted to have Indian food for lunch and had seen Mughlai some days earlier. We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and Minced lamb-Keema Matar. To this Naan bread and Raita and we also had rice. The taste was not especially Indian and both dishes tasted the same and not very spicy. The lamb had a lot of green peas in it. The dishes did not taste bad but really nothing special.

Great.

Warm welcome and very kind, hearty meal and taste. A real delight. Real flavors, a real treat close to the memorial

Delicious

By Marc_and_Kim_Z |

Really enjoyed this restaurant. We had cauliflower appetizer and it was deliciously different. Fried with a Korean like sauce. We had chicken and spinach which was delicious and a lamb vindaloo. Everything was excellent!!

Excellent food

By Yiannis V |

This restaurant is by far the best indian food in NY! Very good food excellent service and good people. The prices are descent.

Scrumptious! Unpretentious. Excellent.

By yuspeh |

We discovered this place while staying in the near by vicinity. The staff and owner couldn't have been more attentive. Beyond that... the food was utterly scrumptious! The shrimp saag - perfect. Chefs special Chicken curry- sumptuous. Garlic naan, and other homemade breads - yum! They do a great cauliflower app. Please try this place. It's a nice and welcoming atmosphere. You won't be disappointed. We can't wait to go back! Enjoy!

Amazing food

By Sejal P |

We just stumbled upon this restaurant which was very close to our hotel. The food was amazing and the manager/supervisor was very friendly and we received a good service. Even got complimentary desserts. Plus it was happy hour, so we got 50% off! Definitely worth a visit here if you enjoy Indian food.

Oustanding Indian Cuisine NYC

By Rooskidu |

On Friday, I tried takeout from new restaurant on 2nd Avenue and was delicious. Our friends who were visiting from Florida booked at location on 3rd Avenue for Saturday night. We ate as family. Make reservations. Service outstanding. Outstanding Indian food with a large amount of selections. Will definitely return.

Excellent food after a long day

By Greg E |

My friends and I had spend the day touring around Manhattan, and were tired and hungry. Mughlai solved both problems. The food was great, with chicken, naan, chickpea, and paneer cheese dishes. The food quality was excellent, and the owner came by to chat. Overall, a great experience to cap off a great day in the city.

Blown Away !!!

By ianandmax |

We went here basically out of laziness because we were tired and didn’t want to go far from the hotel after a full days sightseeing and we were so glad we did. The food was absolutely amazing and the best and most authentic food we have had since our last trip to India. Very friendly service and reasonable prices too. The Goan vindaloo is highly recommended and was exactly how the real thing is served out there.

Horrendous

By Culturalnut |

Horrendous! Despite there being 5 open tables, the hostess shoved us into a 2 person table that we couldn’t even get into because it was blocked by a kid’s scooter on one side and a suitcase on the other side. We asked politely if we could sit in a nice table by the window that we could actually get into and was flat out refused, saying it was “Friday night.” We spent the next hour having our wine spilled by the kid with the scooter banging in to our table and having the guy with the suitcase shove chicken into his mouth with his hands. The next two couples in the door were seated at the nice tables next to the windows and seemed to have a nice night. When we inquired with the hostess, she actually huffed out loud and stamped off-like how dare we say something?!? We were repeat customers, but we will NEVER go back. Incidentally, when we left half the tables were empty! Apparently they are not making ends meet because of their seating arrangements, but rather because of the way they treat their “customers.”

Ok food

By Tracy m |

Went here for our 1st meal in New York. The staff were nice. The food was ok but it is so expensive compared to the UK.

We ate here tonight for the first time

By nycmom22 |

Lunch is a steal. Dinner has entrees in the $22.95 range. Servings are large. Service is kind. Many standard offerings, well-prepared. Consider dal, tandoori chicken.

The best!

By Kitje71 |

This food! We went here twice. It is really, really good, and the prices are normal as the amount of food you get. If you like indian food, defently go there. It can be a little busy at times, then the food will take some time but its worth to wait for!

Good atmosphere

By Evelyne T |

I had lunch with a friend there. The food was good and the waiters very good in helping us make our choices. The atmosphere was friendly.

Very good

By Giulio Barbin |

Good food Good prices Good service Very good Indian restaurant in New York City I recomend this Restaurant

Very Very Good!!!

By AZoratti |

I saw several comments from people who were there and who don't like spicy food, it would be the same as a vegan going to a steakhouse, the place is really simple but the food that was served to us was delicious

Kind, attentive staff, offering an excellent selection of delicious food

By Alan M |

We were visiting NYC for St Patrick's Day and went to Mughlai on Friday evening. The choice of food is pretty good and very fresh, with prices that made the overall occasion extremely reasonable. When my wife chose a vegetable curry dish that contained potato (but wasn't listed on the menu) the dish was immediately replaced with an excellent Tarka Dhall at no extra charge. On returning to our hotel, our daughter mentioned that the restaurant had sent her a text message to say my wife had forgotten to collect her phone (it had been on charge) but was safe. This was a very nice, friendly gesture and gave us a good reason to return the next day to properly thank the owner and staff for their hospitality.

Just 3 Blocks from Hunter College Brookdale Campus

By Tara Heagele |

Every once in a while, I try a new to me restaurant near work as a treat. Today I went to Mughlai Indian Cuisine and had a samosa, naan, dal, and curry goat over basmati rice. Deeeeeeelicious! In fact, the first bite of the curry goat was an amazing flavor explosion! My eyes widened and I couldn’t help but smile and exclaim “mmmmm!!!” One of the restaurant workers noticed my little moment and smiled large, looking very pleased that I was so very happy. I gave him two thumbs up from across the restaurant and he looked even more proud. Prior to today, I don’t believe I’ve tried dal. I didn’t know if I was supposed to eat it like a soup, pour it over the rice, or dip the naan in it. My waiter kindly and respectfully explained that I could do any of the above, but that most folks dip the naan in it. I went shortly after 12pm on a beautiful autumn Wednesday and was seated immediately. My food came out quickly, but I didn’t feel rushed. I ordered a lunch special, was completely satiated (and took some naan and dal home), and it cost $21 before tip. Very reasonable for Manhattan! The restaurant is beautifully decorated, clean, smells amazing, and they had sort of a chill down tempo Indian music playing. The ambiance was great. I was so happy with my experience that I immediately texted my coworkers that they HAVE to try Mughlai. I look forward to my next visit.
