Welcoming and familiar

By Roberto_NW_Italy |

Diners are a traditional species risking extinction in the US and NYC in particular after having been the pillar of American eating-out for centuries. This one, run by immigrants, is keeping up the tradition of warm familiar hospitality, classic 50’s movie like setting, and overgrown menu. A party of 10, we totally enjoyed the food and service. As a highlight, the yankee pot roast melts in your mouth. Generous portions and good down-to-earth food all around, for a very reasonable bill. Keep it up!

Great way to start the day!

By Matt S |

We dined here for breakfast on our first two mornings over the Christmas break. We loved the food and the service was great. It had the classic New York diner vibes that you would hope for on your first visit to New York. We would have gone back more, but our need to try new places whilst on vacation drew us away. Will definitely return here when we come back to NYC.

Must visit for breakfast

By Sue F |

Tried this place for breakfast based on other Tripadvisor reviews and so pleased we did. Between us we had French toast, Bacon, eggs, pancakes - all delicious. Such a lovely relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Preferred this to the rushed Scotty’s Diner.

Just fine but no reason to return.

By jesperzac |

Good traditional diner which doesn’t stick out in anyway. Other waiters seemed pleasant, but ours was to stressed to answer simple question about the menu which we (foreigners) were unsure about. When checking out with credit card, nobody advised that this created a surcharge of 1 USD. Had we known, we would just have paid cash.

A proper American breakfast in a proper American diner!

By angie47 |

On our last full day in NYC we decided we should have a proper American breakfast, complete with pancakes. The Murray Hill Diner came up as a good place, and was in a location that suited our plans for the day, so off we went. We were warmly welcomed and promptly given cold water and hot coffee. Hot coffee became a bit of a thing for us as we were served what I would call lukewarm coffee more than once, and it seemed to be the norm. So hot coffee, refilled often, was a big plus for us here. We ordered the pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. Oh my word, so light and fluffy and delicious. But I couldn’t eat all of them, not because they were not excellent, but I was just full! A great start to our day. Definitely one to return to.

Good breakfast to start your day

By 193cat |

Visited the Murray Hill Diner a couple of times for breakfast. Good selection on the menu and good sausages!!! Nice diner on Lexington Avenue at the corner of 33rd street. Would recommend and will definitely go back on my next visit to New York.

Wonderful breakfast!

By clarebear69 |

Went here a couple of times during my recent stay for breakfast as the food was so good! We all had different items but I had the French toast with sausage and bacon and it was delicious! The portions are huge, I couldn't finish my meal the second time I went unfortunately but it did keep us going until dinner that night. The value for money is also great and the staff very friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Packed diner on New Year’s Day.

By Sally B |

Typical New York deli with huge selection of dishes. Service was prompt and friendly. Place was packed on New Year’s Day. Had corned beef hash eggs Benedict and the French onion soup. Both were fine. Nothing special.

Very average, cute place

By cync34 |

Ate here for breakfast on a Sunday morning and found the atmosphere pleasant and a traditional diner vibe, however the food was very fair for the price we paid. Not much else to add other than rather disappointing and just OK.

Great breakfast

By L G |

We wanted a decent breakfast ahead of a big day of sightseeing and were not disappointed. The diner was busy and lively with great service and food. We will be back!

Good but strange pricing

By londonman89 |

My wife and I ate breakfast here and found it to be really good. We had two breakfast sandwiches which came to circa $9. My wife then wanted something sweet so we ordered a single waffle. It was $11 which seemed high bearing in mind the price of the breakfast sandwiches. Either way it was great but it’s something to watch.

Our favourite breakfast

By CathySB17 |

Great diner, friendly staff, quick service and delicious breakfasts. Good value for NYC - spoilt for choice though so we’ll have to go back another day!

Large menu with quick service

By Rick C |

A fairly large diner offering a large varied menu with something for almost anyone. The prices for NYC are reasonably affordable and the staff is friendly, efficient and we were served our lunch very quickly. I would recommend this diner to friends and family.

Eggs Benedict walk in quick service

By Lisa M |

Quick in and out! American style sit down breakfast. Omelettes eggs Benedict home fries. Convenient. Walked in and we were seated immediately. One of the few diners on NYC!

Murray Hill Diner - Manhattan

By John G |

We had a lunch and breakfast here during our two day post cruise stay in New York. Both meals were excellent, very good value for money, and the staff were all very friendly and attentive - thoroughly recommended.

GOOD FOOD?? NOT REALLY

By Andrew W |

Went here while visiting NY with family. There were 5 of us. This was on June 18, 2018. Daughter read reviews and decided it might be a place that would satisfy all of us . WRONG! The so called STUFFED SEAFOOD PLATTER was suppose to be stuffed with blue crab. It was full of bread stuffing only. And this is even after asking the waiter before I ordered. My husband ordered a salad that could have come from the Hudson River since there was so much vinegar it could have clean out any IBS for years. The Club sandwich by another was sparsely made with very little meat. The grilled chicken was so over cooked that it could have died days before. A complete disappointment and yet the staff when told said SO WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO? I said maybe a reduction in the bill? They just chuckled. Don't waste your money here. Better places on Lexington Ave than this overrated place.

Fast, clean and tasty

By MichaelBermuda |

Really wanted a waffle and this did the trick. The service was fast, efficient and friendly and I was not rushed out. Enjoyed a decent Belgian waffle and Canadian bacon and lingered with my coffee. Diner is clean too.

Best roast beef ever

By Lloyd J |

Quite simply the “Balboa” from the menu is the best roast beef I have ever tasted. Staff were friendly and attentive. Can’t rate this place high enough

Great discovery

By Tim W |

Punched in “local diners” on google on our first morning in NY and after not finding the first place we turned around to find Murray Hill Diner and so pleased it worked out like that. Great breakfasts, nice service and quality of food , whilst large portions as you would expect , was great

Fabulous breakfast/brunch

By Catherine M |

On a 7 day trip I had breakfast/brunch 3 days here. The food is prepared fresh to order. I had pancakes with Blueberries which were fab and coffee , they offer loads of free coffee refills 😊 I would also recommend the Eggs Florentine which come with a portion of fried potatoes. Prices are reasonable with breakfast above with coffee and small orange juice approx $13-16. I had dinner on a previous visit years back and it was good too but did’nt try it for dinner this time. Staff were courteous and it was very busy on Sunday for brunch & the crowds were handled well

Classic local diner - good for breakfast

By johnsuggestions |

Quick and no frills but pleasant decent wholesome breakfast. Classic range of things available and our eggs and bacon were cooked just right.

Good Food and very Quick Service!

By brownjulip |

Nice, clean diner. Food was delicious and the service was excellent! Great New York City experience ! Plenty of Menu options and prices were affordable!

Christmas Eve dinner after Gramercy Park Caroling!

By Mishmash0718 |

So, we were so excited to find a real NY diner after our evening of caroling in NYC. Now, there was a sign on the door that they were closing at 9:00, but the owner was sure to tell us we only had 50 minutes to eat when we when in. We decided to chance it-we made it in the allotted time and had a good time goofing about our time constriction! I had a grilled cheese that I loved, my sister had an egg cream that she loved, it was a great experience. Would we go back? Definitley!!

The best way to start your day, breakfast/brunch at MHD

By Alex21430 |

We found Murray Hill Diner a few years ago on holiday in NYC and after our first taste, we have had breakfast here almost every morning on the subsequent 4 holidays. Its not fancy, but its clean, the food is good quality, very tasty, made quickly with efficient and friendly staff and its good value which makes you come back again and again. In fact we tend to eat a big breakfast which fuels us for almost the rest of the day, leaving us to enjoy the city, only breaking for a hot dog or late lunch before having a light dinner. I love a good pancake and Murray Hill Diner does not disappoint, whether it is the super sweet pancake with banana inside, or a short stack or golden brown pancakes they are all excellent, served with your own pot of maple syrup. My wife loved the Challah bread French Toast as an alternative. Alongside that, the eggs, bacon and everything else we had was great. The coffee is slightly disappointing but its on tap, so its a case of quantity over quality and to be honest I always struggle to find a good cup of coffee in Manhattan. We were amazed to find at least one other table with Brits every day this time, so I hope its only a short wait for MHD to set up a satellite in London - if wishing could make it so.

Excellent Diner in NYC

By Mike M |

Great local diner with excellent food and reasonable prices for NYC. Wide menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Don't hesitate to visit.

Super

By KennyMayo |

Accidentally found this place just around the corner from where I was staying. Really loved the atmosphere and the service is excellent. Made a second visit during my short stay both for breakfast.

Great NY diner.

By easternbreak1 |

Great dining experience. Good food and good service. , would definitely recommend. Staff were very friendly and the food was served promptly.

Great traditional breakfast diner

By Ftlouie |

Great traditional diner. Fast and friendly service. We had chocolate chip pancakes, waffle and lumberjack pancakes. All excellent and big portions.

Best pancakes I’ve ever had

By SaraLovesTravel |

We found this place a 5 minute walk away from our hotel and we ate here 4 times for breakfast and once for dinner during our stay. I loved their pancakes with banana and maple syrup, they were so big and fluffy and the best pancakes I’ve ever had. The four times I had them they were the same quality every time. I want to come back to New York even just for these pancakes! They have plenty to choose from, they’re menu is like ten pages long so even the fussiest of eaters should find something. They’re portions are huge so you will definitely go away feeling full and satisfied after eating here. The prices are reasonable too and the staff very friendly and helpful. On average for breakfast for three people including coffee and tea and tip it was about $40 dollars for breakfast and $60 for dinner including dessert too. That was for all three of us not each with $10 tip included. If you like my review and find it helpful please give it a thumbs up thanks!

Great Breakfast un NYC

By Pedski |

While staying at the Shelburne Suites on Lexington Avenue i found this gem on TA for breakfast close by as our hotel expensive for breakfast. Looks nothing from the outside but on entry the place is spotless and menu great. We ate here every day bar 1 and couldnt fault it for fast good value food with a few meal deals and friendly service. Defintely recommend if you close by. Friends Travelling from the UK.

NYC diner, just like you’d find on TV

By tatnuck1145 |

Murray Hill is your typical NYC diner that you see everywhere - same NYC feel, good food, fast service & very reasonable prices. You won’t go wrong for that deli sandwhich or the bacon. & eggs. Tradional diner food. Very clean

Typical diner

By GregorPAF |

When in US I like to have typical American breakfast in an authentic atmosphere. In this regard MHD hit the mark. Good food, nice people, for everybody (families, hipsters, seniors, etc.).

Good Diner in NYC

By Neal F |

Been to a lot of diners in my lifetime. This one is okay. Service was quick and the food tasted okay. Only wentt here for breakfast though.

Traditional Diner

By TravelTips |

Not so many of these traditional Diners left in NYC. We had pancakes and French Toast. Reasonable prices, extensive menu, it was busy at 9.30 am on a Monday which speaks for itself!

Breakfast

By PremPod |

The menu was huge and we were spoilt for choice - the food did not disappoint - was definitely worth the walk - a must

Not good at all

By John P |

We didn’t enjoy our food at all. It was all very blah. Nowhere near as good as Westwood diner, not too far. The wine was good though and the service was lovely. The hostess is sullen and was chewing food as she sat us down. My turkey loaf was salty and tough. Burger was over done. Soup was nice enough. I’d not go back. Shame. Waitress was lovely.

Lovely Sunday brunch

By rbears |

First breakfast of our trip brought us to this diner afew blocks from our hotel. We were seated immediately and served straight away. We opted for the Sunday brunch which is available from 10am and at $22 per person, was value for money. Would highly recommend this place if you are visiting and in the area

It is a diner

By CWR01 |

It is a diner, so my expectations were modest. The menu was extensive, and I enjoyed the benedict florentine. Decor was uninspiring and diner-like. Staff could have been a little more attentive. Food was OK, but nothing to write home about.

Basic diner

By Yaron T |

Ok food: basic granola, omelette, jam and cappuccino. Seats are not comfortable. Nice waiter. There are better places for memorable breakfast.

Great little diner

By bermudacop |

had breakfast here every day. much nicer than our hotel restaurant. food is simple, served quickly by friendly staff and reasonably priced (for NYC). my ten year old loves it here. always busy but never have to wait more than a minute for a table. excellent.

Great Diner

By mags62 |

Hubby and me ate here every morning while visiting NYC for 6 days from 1-6th October. It's a great little diner with plenty to choose from on the breakfast menu. The diner is clean and cosy with lovely pleasant staff who always make sure your coffee is topped up. I would highly recommend this place, it's great if you're on a budget. They are open all day from 6am- 11pm so it's really worth a try. When we return to NYC we will be returning here for more breakfasts🙂

Outstanding

By LGG |

In every way. Great breakfast. Great club sandwich with real turkey. Great service. Great prices. The real deal.

Go for the food, stay for the Pie!!!

By Kimberly E |

Great find on our recent NYC trip. Busy diner with exceptional service, extensive diner menu and very good food. We did a breakfast and a lunch. Last morning in NYC, we went back for another piece of their Lemon Meringue Pie for breakfast—absolutely the best we’ve ever had. Meringue melts in your mouth, lemon custard just right with a beautiful flaky crust. Two entrees with pie and drinks mid-$40’s. Future trips will find us back at this neighborhood diner.

Breakfast is fantastic

By MissL219 |

We came here on our first visit to New York and had the most wonderful breakfast, but we couldn't remember the name after. Only by chance, we stumbled upon it on our most recent visit. The pancakes were incredible on our first visit. This time I had a grilled cheese which was also tasty. A side of fries was massive, definitely one to share.

Great Breakfast

By carolawyer |

Typical diner food. Always busy with regular locals and tourists. Great huge breakfasts. Dinner okay

Great breakfast

By Kelly W |

Lovely breakfast. Great choice. Plenty of coffee. Only went the once as wanted to try others whilst staying in NY but this was the best one we visited. Would definitely recommend.

Murray Hill Diner is the greatest!

By Connie G |

We love Murray Hill Diner! The food and the service are always great. I have a restricted diet. They always cook my food exactly as I request. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Brilliant breakfast!

By John W |

My wife and I stumbled on this diner one morning and called in for breakfast. Very friendly welcome, great staff and tremendous food. Most difficult thing is deciding what to eat. Would recommend this place to anyone and we would definitely return.

Great way to start each day

By S3599KPamandam |

We were hoping to find a classic diner experience nearby and Murray Hill did not disappoint. Pies in the cabinet cooler, check. Donuts under glass, check. Coffee in a white cup and saucer that I never saw the bottom of, check. Delicious, well prepared breakfast standards and some more creative fare that kept us fueled straight through midday, Servers were delightful, efficient, some with a wicked sense of humor. First breakfast was so good, we ate here every morning during our stay

My husband and I had breakfast

By Robin A |

My husband and I had breakfast here today. I have visited before. Food is delicious, service is friendly and efficient and restaurant is immaculate. Kudos to management and staff!

Delicious!

By Greg G |

This was my favorite dining experience from my recent visit to Manhattan. Good food, good service, good prices....this place is hard to beat. Huge, diverse menu. Everyone in my family of four was pleased. We also enjoyed the old-school corner diner vibe. The place is also remarkably clean. Highly recommended!

Great diner in the middle of NY

By Michael C |

Just landed from Australia and happened on this diner, classic dinner well executed, friendly service and great food, highly recommended.

Eggs Benedict

By Donna H |

I went to the Murray Hill Diner on Sunday 11/25/18 for breakfast. As soon as we entered we were greeted and shown to our table, we were asked what beverage we wanted and it was brought out immediately as was the water. The entire staff was very welcoming. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and it was wonderful. I noticed that the diner was extremely clean and the staff was very attentive. I would go back again!

Great local mid town diner

By martyn_bryant |

Used by many of the locals, so has to be good. Excellent service, great menu and large portions at a very good price.Even the local NYPD used Murray Hill Diner, so it is an extra endorsement Had 3 breakfasts there and never disappointed.Sunday extra busy as local residents were using.

Bad service

By Annabelle L |

We went there for breakfast during our stay in New York. The food was not that good and the service was so bad... we did not get any support to understand the menu. We had to ask for getting the juice included into the menu as well as to get additional coffee. Really not recommend it.

Everything I imagined an American diner would be like.

By Gaffers |

We love this place. It was such a welcoming diner and was everything I expected. We visited for breakfast 4 times and each time we were not disappointed. The pancakes and the French toast were incredible. We also visited twice for dinner and can definitely recommend the lasagne. The cheesecake and the lemon meringue pie were also lush! During our first visit we received some very sad news about our dog. We sat and cried and were obviously very upset. The lovely waitress, Stephanie, showed us great kindness and sat down and tried to comfort us. In a huge city that can sometimes be overwhelming, The Murray Hill Diner is a calm haven of good food, excellent coffee and kindness.

Breakfast

By 22AC700 |

This was a great surprise. We had a couple of misses during g our week stay in Manhatten but the Murray Hill Diner ticked the boxes. It was our last morning (breakfast) of our stay. The staff were cheerful and helpful, the food was excellent, no problem with coffee pop-ups. If you are staying in Manhatten check this out.

Huge menu in classic diner

By Lucoid |

Needing revival after a long day, I hopped off the M5t bus in 5th Ave and made my way over to Murray Hill Sdiner. Classic design inside with a massive, range of dishes so up with a Philly cheese steak and fries. More than I wanted/needed but just had to keep at it as it was good, loads of staff beavering away and a steady stream of customers

Another really good NYC diner....

By dndphishin |

Yet another in a long line of good NYC diners. All the standard diner fare - we opted for breakfast plates on two visits over a four day stay. Lucked out as it was out the door as we finished, and noted same on several occasions as we went by the place over our stay. Good service on both visits, pleasant neighborhood diner atmosphere, and inexpensive - a welcome respite for travelers on a budget. I find these places a great way to start my day in the city, with all the walking and attending concerts it's sure to get burned off. Nothing fancy, just the expected diner fare well done.

Good honest delicious food

By Gillian3663 |

It’s two years ago since we visited this authentic diner on our last trip to New York. This is our favourite place for breakfast. With a huge array of choices there is something for everyone on this menu. The staff are friendly and the food is delicious. Tea and coffee regularly topped up this diner represents good value for money. We will certainly visit again and again on future trips.

A real old-fashioned breakfast

By Luc M |

Excellent breakfast in an old-fashioned dinner and not full of tourists (rare). Very friendly welcome, smile and availability. Good hearty dishes for breakfast really the NY we love. Perfect to start a day of walking

Loved it!

By Erin |

Came back twice in a row because it was so good! lovely staff, decent sized portions, delicious New York style food and free coffee refills!!!

Outstanding

By jsc19792018 |

What a gem! Great food. Daily specials. Menu offers wide selection. Extremely clean. Very comfortable booths. Friendly wait staff. Speedy service, even when crowded. Reasonable prices; by New York standards, a great deal! After my first visit,, went back for breakfast and dinner the next day.

Well worth the wait.

By Blondechickdublin |

Great food and service, coffee was hot and plentiful! Feta omelette with breakfast potatoes was delicious!!! Husband had the pancakes, huge portions. We ate there on a Saturday morning and there was about a 20 min wait but it was well worth it.

Best for breakfast; vast menu; quick, efficient and friendly service

By MASWScreenwriter |

It is hard not to like this diner especially for breakfast. It is always busy. It is extremely busy at lunchtime. Yet we seldom had to wait more than a few minutes during our stay. We ate here five or more times during our visit, having breakfast, lunch and dinner here on various days. Service is always extremely quick, staff polite and efficient, the menu is vast, breakfast always seemed to be best and most consistent, the eggs and bacon particularly. The hash browns were to my taste a little soft and not as crisp as I like them, more hash than brown. The filter coffee, or drip coffee in America was surprisingly good, possibly because there is always some freshly made as the turnover is so high. The ice cream was also very good and like most things, came in large portions. Prices were quite reasonable for Manhattan and overall the Murray Hill Diner is highly recommended.

Tasty

By emma7353 |

This American diner has very tasty food and exciting decor around the room.it has a large range of options of food to choose from.

A diner from times gone by

By Michael |

Old style place, with tables and chairs that look like they came out of a 70s series. The staff is approachable and overall welcoming. The price is in line with New York diners, on average high, while the quality of the food is acceptable, good for a diner. An alternative to take into consideration if you want to experience an American dinner in the Big Apple.

Great breakfast and service.

By SGS1260 |

Great breakfast menu! Each plate could be two meals. We ordered the western omelette and chocolate chip pancakes on the weekend mimosa deal. The food was excellent, but the mimosas weren't so good. Tasted like bad champagne. Therefore skip the mimosa deal. Otherwise, service was excellent and the food was well worth the visit.

Really good food with great service

By Bob W |

We ended up eating at Murray Hill dinner every morning for breakfast. It was convenient to our hotel, but more importantly, the food was really good and not overpriced (for NYC). I was very surprised how exceptionally efficient and friendly the staff is. I'd say about 1/2 of the people who dined here were locals, but we did hear every language spoke while we were here. Nothing fancy, buy good tasting food that you'll love.

Amazing breakfast

By Martin |

Visited here for breakfast during recent family holiday and awesome food and service (Maria). We had a selection of breakfasts-steak, omelettes, pancakes and all amazing.

A Diner find just around the corner

By Gerald H |

We stayed on E 33rd (Murray Hill neighborhood) make this your go to Diner; fun and friendly staff too. The short stack pancakes with egg and Canadian bacon was just right. Not overly priced. Gives you the feel of an American Diner and that makes it all the better place to go! I hope to get here again during our stay.

Excellent service

By Gabriela H |

The breakfast was delicious and the service was excellent!! It’s nice to find a smile when you travel alone.

Good, Basic, Solid Food & Service

By twa203 |

Here for lunch. Good menu, great service, fast, efficient and well prepared. Can recommend the Philly Cheese Steak and a cold Heineken.

An ok choice

By deedee-2004 |

We had breakfast here on our first day in New York. The food was definitely ok and the service was good. Not unforgettable, but just good.

Nice Quick Breakfast

By Rquin90 |

Service was good, food was good, place was clean. We stopped in for a quick breakfast before our flight. Small menu but for breakfast that worked for us. It was hot, tasty and hasty! In and out fast and the server was very friendly and efficient. Would stop in again.

Real New York breakfast

By hdek |

Excellent dinner not full of tourists (rare) very friendly welcome, smile and discreet availability, very good dish and plentiful for breakfast, really the NY that we love, yet in a not really popular area (only small detail, the credit card did not work the three times we were there) to do!

Didn’t live up to expectations

By MarkCoppes |

Needed a diner fix before heading home. MH diner was recommended, but left me wondering why. The service was fast cheerful and efficient. The food however was bland and undercooked. Home fries were burnt on one side and raw in the middle. Thank god for hot sauce.

Great Diner

By Eileen reed |

Visited again on our annual trip to New York, was not disappointed. Excellent and welcoming service.Good choice of classic diner food with a some Mediterranean options. I had a delicious veggie burger with sweet potato fries with salad, very generous portions. It’s is located on East 33rd and Lexington.

Amazing

By Laura M |

I would just like to say how amazing this place is. We have just got back from 5 days in NYC and had breakfast at Murry Hill Diner every day. The staff were very friendly and the food out of this world. They made us feel very welcome especially my 1 year old son. Nothing was to much trouble.

My breakfast place.

By leadpo |

We were wandering around looking for a place for breakfast. just walking by I knew this clearly the place to pick. We were pleased with our food. The menu is huge so we all ordered our own comfort food, loved the Arizona Omelette.

Quick Breakfast

By Jonathan S |

Stopped in for a quick breakfast. Everything was excellent from the pancakes, the eggs and the coffee. Portions were a good size. The wait staff was excellent. Would recommend.

Great for breakfast

By Cat Mc |

I have visited Murray Hill diner over a number of trips over past 18 yrs on visit to NYC. It remains consistently the same ,good Diner style food served with minimum fuss . The staff are polite and friendly in a spot that always seems really busy . We went for breakfast 4 out of 6 mornings we stayed in Ny to try out the different options and were not disappointed. The bills were approx $40-45 plus tip for 2 people which seems to be about average for New York as in general Ny has gotten more expensive than previous trips

Ok for something fast

By Marie G |

We stopped her to try something different and unfortunately it wasn't how I expect a diner to be. We sat down and waited and waited....then grabbed our own menus, contiplated leaving, still waited then finally someone said she would be right with us after clearing tables and running back and forward for them. The food was not amazing but came out super fast.

A little disappointing

By orlandofoodlover18 |

Had read good things about this diner, but ended up being disappointed. The service was fast and friendly, but the omelets we had were luke warm and did not have a lot of flavor to them. Maybe it was an off day. But I wouldn't got out of my way to eat there again.

Not to be missed

By sendittojeff |

Great Food! Fast Friendly Service! Great people watching. Just a local joint that seems to do everything right. Not to be:missed! Enjoy!

Good, honest food!

By Rjlaw156 |

We came to Murray Hill Diner earlier today and were not disappointed! We wanted just a good old fashioned diner breakfast, and this place totally fit the bill. I had two scrambled eggs with potatoes (so good) and turkey sausage (so so good), and my husband had the garden omelet, which was enough to feed a family of 3 hahaha. Coffee was great, and with free refills! The staff were extremely attentive and friendly. We would definitely come back!

Best breakfasts ever!

By Johnnycash72 |

This was so good we came back several times. And you can just on the subway near by after breakfast to get anywhere. Great service from waitresses. A huge variety of food and all so cheap/ Average cost for breakfast for 2 was around $30 (and we ate a lot each time!!)

Good chicken and chips

By Amy I |

There’s not many places in NYC that do chicken and chips as I think it’s more of a southern thing, but if that’s what you want, this is the place to come. Nice food and is a proper American diner. We also had a piece of cheesecake to share and it was pretty tasty! Not badly priced either

Okay breakfast

By Lynn M |

Went for a late breakfast on a Friday. Recommended by hotel. Busy but Seated right away. Typical diner fare. It was okay. We had eggs, omelette with potatoes, toast, and bacon. No coffee. With tip, for 2, about $30. Won’t return.

Great value brekkie

By dabkdan |

Felt duty bound to have the Murray Hills omelette, which didn't disappoint. Staff very friendly without being overly attentive and made sure you were never short of a coffee refill - well worth a visit.

Return visit

By Lwatson1970 |

During a previous visit to New York this diner was close to our hotel. This time we walked out of our way for a return visit and were not disappointed. Still the same level of service with a smile and a buzzing atmosphere for breakfast. Loads of choice and this time we opted for a Lumberjack with French toast and bacon and a Mexican omelette with a side of bacon. Amazing and of course you don’t go away hungry. Loads of chillis in the omelette which was great! Would highly recommend and I am sure we will be back on another visit to the city.

A good local address...

By Beachben63 |

Dinner in the spirit of New York. It was good, super friendly welcome, and good meal in a place where there were very few tourists. The pastramis sandwiches were excellent, the burgers were good, the wraps were good too.... Small downside, the Sprite was sparkling water...

Independent and old school

By SamuelR001 |

Had brunch one morning after walking the Brooklyn Bridge in the snow. Bottomless coffee, fresh orange juice, eggs, bread, bacon - just like you see in the movies. Good service, reasonable prices, large servings. No rushing, lots of eccentrics eating.

Authentic experience

By dubbhoy |

Great true to form New York diner. Smashing friendly staff, excellent efficient service, plenty of top ups on the coffee. Food was excellent ( Bacon was gorgeous - I would have eaten a lot more ) and good value by New York standards. You could do far worse - can only recommend this place and i'm fussy so its a good recommendation

Diner Food, Restaurant Prices

By Cheryl M |

Stuffed tomato with tuna salad was good despite out of season tomatoes and mix of chunk and solid white tuna. Husbands eggplant grinder was less satisfying. Just not authentic grinder. Diner offers too many options, doing more dishes mediocre rather than a few dishes spectacular. Good for comfort foods like grilled cheese. Still, options limited by supply and freshness is spotty. Probably would return on another rainy day and stick to the specials or tried and true dishes.

Great Diner

By Liz |

Went with my two teenage sons following reviews posted. We were not disappointed. Good home cooked food, traditional diner, great portion sizes , friendly staff, loved it

Not Terrible

By Stephen S |

Mediocre diner food. Omelet was ok. Coffee was weak in old-fashioned small mug that required frequent refills. Waiter did his job silently and without a smile. There are plenty of better spots in Manhattan. I'll try one of those next time.

Neighborhood “go to” diner

Great “go to” neighborhood diner. Good breakfast with an extensive menu. Good coffee. Great dinner menu. Some healthy options also.

A *REAL* Diner!

By BossQueenEJ |

Our party of five adults (all family) arrived in the morning (11ish) with all our luggage. The hostess (maybe the owner?) asked if we wanted to sit together or be split up; we opted to wait for a short bit to sit together. However, 2 booths came open at the back near the restrooms and we ended up with 4 and 1 (our curmudgeon opted to sit alone). Our luggage was parked at the front, per the hostess' direction. Our waiter was on his second day on the job; his name is Freddie. He was wonderful! You should ask to be seated in his section. He was attentive (but not hovering) and funny. The menu is extensive; vegans and those with allergies can get good meals there. Between us, we order a Greek salad, omelettes with home fries, oatmeal, fresh fruit, avocados, and toast. Everyone was satisfied; servings were generous; prices reasonable. We plan to return the next time we are in NYC.

Slow server but fast food service

By annabel g |

Hostess was very friendly, server was slow to get to the table but once we ordered our food, the food was fast to be prepared and delivered to our table. We ordered breakfast. The Brunch menu was $17.50 but came with entree, coffee, OJ and small bowl of fruit so it was fair in price. Food quality was good and plenty. Average taste and average diner food.

Perfect old fashioned American Diner

By kidd007 |

If you are looking for the perfect old school 1950’s America diner with pancakes endless coffee, eggs over easy, maple syrup, crispy bacon a breakfast that will last all day then it’s worth the walk and the walk after to burn a few calories. Been back as well.

Big disappointment.

By MapleRidge2 |

We really love a good diner breakfast, but did not find it here. Mediocre oatmeal, bland virtually tasteless omelet. Had the Greek and through the overdone eggs I detected virtually no cheese or tomatoes. Hash browns were tasteless. (How do they manage that?) And the toast was hard and dry, even after buttered. The coffee was weak. The service was fine and prompt, they kept the small coffee cups filled, which was a small favor considering the lack of flavor. One positive note: the corn muffin was very good.

You look for a diner in NYC and you find this gem

By GTFC60GrimsbyUk |

Looking for a diner for breakfast before we visited the Empire State and Google maps threw this one up. What a wonderful fine. Service was speedy and efficient, staff knowledgeable and the breakfasts we had were all really good. Coffees great and refills included.

Good restaurant and place to eat

By Happiness51112159102 |

We found it by chance and liked the food so much that we repeated.Typical American restaurant, rich food, comes out fast and the stuffed tortillas are very rich also the burguer sandwich was very good.

Excellent burgers, old fashioned diner decor

By bigwideworld |

We got exactly what we were hoping for. Good quality, well cooked burgers with the traditional sides served up hot and fast. The decor is a little dated but we would rather that than an indentikit chain restaurant.

Large portions

By Staunender |

A crowed place, both from guests and staff. The food is being cooked fresh in a small and busy kitchen. They turn tons of eggs into agreeable breakfasts and lunches. If you are looking for fine dining: Look somewhere else. If you want to be comfortably fed, give this place a try.

By the way but not to go if or if

By Fernando A |

Not a bad place. Cheap and therefore more as a bar, at least for dinner. Breakfasts say they're fine. The employees all very friendly and speak Spanish. But very expensive beer, a crown costs half as much as a plate 😬 To go once or if there is nothing better open. It is comfortable to sit too 😁

Food great and the coffee keeps flowing

By garyb51970 |

Really liked this place, just seemed genuine, great food, good price for NY,personable staff, went for breakfast 2 morning, would of gone every day but a 15-20 min walk from our hotel, Coffee cup never empty, for me in the morning that's perfect !!!

Classic diner, superbly done

By Anthony P |

Visiting NYC again, we love this place. Its menu embodies classic American everyday food, done extremely well, at reasonable prices for New York. The staff are excellent and the location is convenient - if you're visiting NYC, stay around Murray Hill (forget the west side of Midtown) and eat at the Murray Hill Diner. Your waist may not thank you but your soul will be in clover.

If you want a traditional NYC diner - try this place!

By SwedebyMarriage529 |

This diner has good service and a wide choice of items on the menu. We were not rushed to vacate the table and the quality was what would be expected. Prices not bad for NYC. We will definitely be back!

Well worth a visit

By charleyboy1955 |

Dropped in for breakfast on our way to the Intrepid Sea and Air museum. Busy as we expected but a table by the window was just the job. Service was efficient and food very good, with typical large portion sizes. Good options to choose on the menu and the overall cost very reasonable.

Good location but average food

By OzCatInHat |

Good location but average food especially the bacon and the potato hash. The coffee was ordinary too.

A hidden gem of great hospitality and food !!!

By PennyDPhoto |

Where can I start from? The smiley and amazing staff, including the kind and hospitable Greek owner? The great food? Vast selection and very affordable prices for NYC standards! A DINER as we have in mind - SO cute !!!

My go to place for breakfast

By Gareth W |

A great diner with good food and reasonable prices. The Murray Hill Diner is what used to be a typical New York Diner. There are not many Diners in this area and this is the place I always go to for breakfast. The food is always good, the portion sizes are always adequate and the service is always consistently good. I have been visiting this Diner for 3 years.......this is how good it is.

Delicious

By panpanda |

Snappy service by hard working staff. Delicious Greek spinach pie with a fresh green salad. Very crowded mid-morning on a Saturday.

Great staff, great food

By Madison M |

Loved this place! Super friendly service by every employee we encountered. Food was quick and delicious. So glad we found this place. Would definitely recommend

Perfect for delicious diner food

By jackiepaddy |

$20 including tip for 2 eggs, bacon, home fries, large OJ - wonderful service, classic old school diner. Ate here twice on a 3 day weekend trip.

What a Selection to choose from

By GreyNomads888 |

A great variety of dishes. Catering for all tastes. The service was great. The meals are not over priced. Very attentive staff. Great meals.

Fab Food

By Lisa T |

Very Extensive menu We ate Breakfast here is was fabulous enjoyed the crispy bacon. We also had Take Out one evening Friendly waiting staff Cheesecake was the best!

Home cooking

By Lynn Ameera F |

The restaurant is open at 6am in the morning which is great for me. Also this is home down cooking. They offer a menu that you would prepare at home. I love this place.

Good Diner Food

By Alanhimmelstein |

We went here for a quiet dinner this week. Got seated very timely. The menu is extensive as you expect from a NYC diner. I ordered the chicken cordon blue and was pleasantly surprised that it was made on-site rather than a prepackaged entree. It came with soup - I ordered the lobster bisque - which was much more of a tomato bisque and it contained imitation lobster rather than anything real. It was fine but not what was expected. We also ordered the Italian lasagna. It was excellent and the portion was large enough for two people to share. Worth a trip if you are looking for diner food in the area.

Thank you

By Andy J |

On a cold wet day i loved this diner so much ..felt like a home away from home so friendly and welcoming. The food is amazing Will be back in the spring ..

Should have found it sooner

By Geoff N |

Last minute choice, very varied menu. They welcomed us and sat us down with a glass of iced water. The service was very effient and fast food service. The bill was excellent value and would recommend this cheerful diner

Great Breakfast

Visited on our last morning in NYC - great breakfast - good value and attentive staff - delicious pancakes - recommend

Great traditional diner

By 737av8tor |

Dropped in for breakfast with friends. Good coffee with refills, friendly staff and an excellent breakfast with crisp, tasty bacon. Highly recommend this place.

Fabulous local eatery

By jpvin |

I had hoped when choosing this diner from a TA listing, that I would find that more European-type of diner, with a more varied and interesting menu than just burgers and fries. That was exactly what I found, and then some! Spotlessly clean and comfortable, with an (I think) Italian proprietor and friendly Mexican waiter, there was a huge choice available. I settled on broiled trout, which was beautifully cooked, and was able to enjoy a small glass of throughly decent house wine before finishing with some ice cream. I would recommend highly for good quality basic fare at a good price - a solid local business.

Classic American Diner

By Sue B |

If you want an authentic American diner experience then this is it. Pancakes, French toast, buckets of maple syrup, FRESH orange juice and booths...

A little disappointing this time

By Ron O |

I’ve eaten here before and enjoyed it. But this time I was a little disappointed. The fried calamari and the pork shish kabob were bland. The service, however, was friendly and efficient.

In classic NYC tradition

By rockin ron |

Not Harry or Sally here, just me and the wife and in 3 days we visited twice. The service is brilliantly quick and the menu choices varied to suit every taste, veggies too. This is a stand out in midtown.

American Breakfast

By Mandy_Reen |

Great place for a local breakfast, delicious and great service with plenty of coffee. Definitely worth a visit.

NYC Diner

By K C |

We ate breakfast here two times during our stay. The first day was a weekend and the place was full but luckily there were 2 seats at the counter. Service here was fast and the food was good, we both had omelettes. The second time was during the week. We did not have to wait and had breakfast again. I would definitely stop here if you are in the area.

Superb Breakfast

By shelby |

Amazing breakfast, value for money, great atmosphere and staff, very lovely owner, without doubt the best French toast in the world!!!!

Just what you expect

By Heston L |

Solid diner food. Had breakfast and eggs cooked just right and bacon was crispy as requested. Very good service. Place was nice and clean. Nothing fancy but just what one would expect.

New York diner experience!

By Kath della |

We wanted a classic diner experience and pretty sure we got this with the Murray Hill Diner. Our first visit was late morning and we did wait a few mins for a table to come free but just part of the experience. The staff are so efficient and very friendly. Once seated we had iced water on our table and after a few mins our orders were taken. The food was great, so enjoyed by all we went back another 2 times! Highly recommend 😉

Fabulous diner

By loufrackie |

Stumbled across this lovely diner near our hotel. Ended up having breakfast there each day of our stay. Friendly staff, plentiful food really filled us up for a full day of sightseeing. Eggs anyway, waffles, pancakes all delicious.

A relaxing dining experience in Murray Hill NYC

By Patrick D |

Having just arrived in New York we thought we would go and sample what the the Murray Hill Diner had to offer as it was close to our hotel. I ordered a mousaka and my wife ordered a lasagne. Before long our Greek salads were delivered for us to munch on before the mains arrived. The lettuce was fresh and crisp and the tomatoes were tasty as was the feta cheese. Drizzled lightly with virgin olive oil our salads did not disappoint. The mains were delicious as well and the generous portions sated our appetites in a pleasant manner. Prompt, pleasant service and reasonable prices added up to a pleasant dining experience.

Just an amazing authentic Diner

By Paul H |

I have visited this diner on every visit to NYC and it’s so good, the diner is friendly well priced super clean and does great food, it’s a true authentic diner right on Lexington Avenue well worth a visit

Excellent Breakfast

By Brent S |

Standard bacon & eggs was beautifully done. The potatoes were nicely grilled & the coffee was good. For New York the price was reasonable & service was quick.

Great Diner

By Ladleboy |

Visited three times during our five night stay for breakfast. Typical American diner. Lots of coffee and great food. Very friendly staff and reasonable price.

Food, fun, friendly and fabulous.

By Simon R |

Located on a corner looking north to the Chrysler Building and East to the Empire State Building is this terrific diner. Excellent service and great food that is superb value and makes you feel like you belong in New York. We ditched our breakfast that was provided as a B&B package at a nearby hotel and let Kariny look after us. We all chose different food and none disappointed. A valuable stock up for long days pounding the sights, streets and shops in NYC. Our last day lunch soup and sandwich will see us through to the UK. Until next time. Thank you Kariny and colleagues.

Check your takeout before leaving

By gregory a |

Ordered a bacon egg and cheese takeout for $10.80. Got to work and it looked wrapped in used aluminum foil (that’s gotta be a health hazard) a crushed roll and barely any bacon.

Happy birthday to me

By Emma Williams |

Visited NYC for my 50th birthday and this is where we had breakfast. The staff are lovely, they are so attentive and friendly. The food is very good and comes out hot, fresh and quickly. I had the French toast with banana. Husband had eggs, sausage, bacon and potatoes with side of pancakes. We had coffee to drink. Came to around $50 (Before tip)

Great food

By Dykeneuk |

Visited today for breakfast, another great find in New York. The staff are friendly and welcoming , lots to choose from the vast menu too. We both decided on the pancakes with bananas, which were lovely and fluffy, coffee refills as needed. Would certainly visit again

Great authentic Dinner in Manhattan

By Onlynine |

We had breakfast the whole family and everyone were happy about the food. Fast service and very authentic Dinner atmosphere! The staff were very nice as well. The coffee excellent! Recommend it anytime!

Average and a bit expensive

By Leif55 |

We had been looking forward to a real NY Diner experience. And I guess we got that too. But although the atmosphere and service are good, unfortunately the food did not impress that much. And it was also expensive with a high exchange rate to Norwegian kroner. So not worth it.

Delicious Food at a Great Price

By EwigeWanderlust |

My husband and I had dinner and breakfast at the Murray Hill Diner. I would have never thought I could enjoy such a delicious dinner in a diner. We first went for dinner. My husband was remarking that the kitchen service was slow when out came our dinners, piping hot, prepared from scratch NOT just warmed up in the micro-oven. Well worth waiting for! My husband had the Euro pasta and I had the Pasta Primivera. They were both delicious and obviously prepared just for us. Awesome and delicious! We went back for breakfast the next morning. Once again, awesome and delicious and great service. Prices are reasonable too!

Fantastic old style American diner

By lou84sheffield |

Best diner in midtown. Old fashioned, fantastic fast service. Food beautiful, so much to choose from. Breakfast is amazing. We had breakfast brunch dinner all was perfect. Take outs good too. 10/10. If the local New Yorkers eat there it’s gonna be good. Can not fault a thing.

Still great food 👏

By JEFSUSHAY |

We went and I got the French toast n eggs n bacon was awesome my wife got the club sandwich n also great ..

Great spot for breakfast in Murray Hill

By Nicholas B |

Classic diner experience, with a bit higher quality food. Food was very good, nothing great to warrant a 5 star review, but good all the same. Likely fewer and fewer true diners in NYC anymore, the atmosphere was enjoyable. Worth the visit.

Farmers Omelette

By m w |

Eggs-cellent breakfast place. Nothing special, just great selection Of egg dishes, seemingly hundreds of omelets pancakes, fresh coffee, excellent service, and a local diner. What more could you want?

Superb Breakfast / Attentive Service

By Mick B |

Quickly seated, great food selection, good value for money, food delicious, A1 service....could ask for no more, in New York for 5 days and this was definitely the diner of choice for our breakfast...well done all at Murray Hill Diner, thank you.

Great breakfast again

By Bruce A |

Been here a few times with the family. Always fast and efficient with friendly staff. Food is tasty and appropriately priced for NYC. We had a Mexican omelette, french toast, pancakes and eggs and toast. All good and we'll be back!

Really good corned beef hash

By mshbnyehud |

My friend joined me for an early breakfast mid-week at this aptly named restaurant in the Murray Hill district. for 7:30 a.m., it was actually about half full, and by the time we left one hour later, it was completely full. People know where to find a good New York diner with great service. I thoroughly enjoyed my corned beef hash, cooked extra crispy at my request, and topped with two extra large over-easy eggs (also my request). Diced potatoes accompanied the dish along with two slices of toast to order. Coffee service was continuous, really over the top. You could hardly finish 1 oz of coffee and the servers came by again to top off the cup! Wow! Look forward to returning and trying out one of the other breakfast options.

Kids loved it

By Bluenose-Angel |

We arrived after a flight from the UK, we just needed to eat then sleep. This place is clean and functional but not homely, in the same way a good service station is, and it’s clearly popular with locals and we were pleased with our food. The menu is huge so we all ordered our own comfort food - fried chicken, meatball sub, eggs benedict, chicken noodle soup - and got huge portions. Service was attentive. There’s very little they don’t serve in terms of classic diner food, my 9 and 11 year olds loved it.

American breakfast!

By lutin5675 |

Excellent! Our starting point for the day, healthy and Power breakfast before visiting New York. And the staff is lovely!

What a Gem

By luv2golf12 |

This place was very near our hotel and it was convenient. We visited it twice during our stay. I was on a mobility scooter and they were very helpful in letting me park it inside the restaurant. They didn't act like it was an inconvenience and welcomed us back on the second trip. The food was very good. The diner was always crowded. The staff was friendly and efficient. I'mm so glad we found this little gem. If I ever visit NYC again I'll be sure to eat at Murray Hill Diner. Highly recommend.

Amazing Brunch

By Sophie C |

Great value, really tasty food. Friendly staff! We visited here as were on a budget visit to the city! We ordered; Philly cheese steak, came with fries. Cheese and bacon toastie. Large toasted bagel Coca cola Water was free with ice and was constant dropped up for us! Came to $27

Yummy breakfast

By Ginny |

I had breakfast here and it was yummy! The service/staff is great and the atmosphere is just like in the movies! Good coffee!

Practical Location

By Montserrat F |

Dinner located on Lexington between 33 and 34. Convenient location if you need to take M101, M102, or M103 bus downtown. Classic American dinner .

Must visit!

By CarlovanHouten |

What a fantastic place to have breakfast! A typical American place fully run by Latinos 😃. The food is great, service excellent so you must visit this place when in the neighborhood. Water for free (everywhere in the US) and refills for tea and coffee. As if you travelled back in time. Really loved the place!

Good eggs!

By Lynn M |

Second time here. There are lots of regulars. Typically diners fare. An omelette with ham and cheese ( off menu) and a BLT. Both were very good. Service is very good. Lots of seating. Food comes out promptly. A short walk from the Hilton Garden Inn. On 34th st. We will return.

Great food, fast and reasonable.

By andylogic |

Came across this on an early morning walk around midtown. Hotel wanted $29 for breakfast, at the Murray Hill I had two sausages, hash browns, two eggs, two toast, jam, butter, unlimited coffee and water for $12. Service was fast and friendly, food was fresh and tasty. Diner was atmospheric with lots of passing trade and locals who seemed regular. Plentiful staff. A great find and I’ll be back next time I’m in NYC.

Fab!!

By Lyn095 |

Read reviews and took a look glad we did it was great lunch will go back definitely recommend service good too

Amazing

By net_masters |

Recently been in New York on holiday from the UK, and my partner and I were desperate to try a ‘proper’ american diner. I found one online but stumbled across this place on the way there. Cannot fault it at all. Proper old fashioned family feel to the place, a huge menu with plenty of options, and the food is incredible. An absolute must if you want to get away from all the overpriced eateries in the touristy areas just a few blocks away. Oh, and the lemon meringue pie is to die for.

Very disappointing

By BarryJV |

Disappointing food, service, ambiance. Many cheaper, better diners in the area. Burgers were dry and unappetizing and not priced correctly on the menu.
