Spent 4 nights in NYC, had diner here 2 times.

By Henri-en-Lida |

We got off the subway at Grant street station and found this place at 100 feet away. The food is excellent value for money and the staff is friendly and efficient. We took 2 of the 4 diners in New York at this place. It is not high class, but good food for a good price. Try the number 39 with beef......

Not only Pho!

By William C |

A popular restaurant with asians as well as locals. A Vietnamese restaurant serving not only Pho but many other popular Vietnamese dishes. Spring rolls and fresh rolls are great dishes. Their pork chop with rice is very good and tasty. Environment is a typical Vietnamese restaurant with tables and chairs.

Recommended by a friend and paying it forward

By Ben C |

The restaurant was recommended by a friend and I am passing on my recommendation. The food was delicious and plentiful and the service could not be faulted. A good all round restaurant. I would go back next time to try the other menu items.

Authentic Vietnamese meal.

By ruready2gosoon |

We were looking for something reasonably priced and tasty. It was a chilly evening and hot and sour chicken vegetable soup hit the spot. Portions are huge!!

Great Food, Great Price

By K L |

Wish I could give it 4.5 stars. Not quite a 5, (only decor factor) but the food was delicious and all under $10!!! We had a large group and went without reservations. So glad they have lots of large tables so we didn't have to wait. Our food came out super fast and was super delicious. If you want good Vietnamese and don't want to pay a fortune, you must come here!! Easy to get to right near lots of major subway stations... I can't wait to go back!

Very good

By cjyap |

This was one of the restaurants recommended by my hotel that was nearby. It was very good. We ate early and the place was busy. There is a large menu. We stuck to some familiar choices, but much of what passed us going to other tables looked really good. We got an order of Vegetarian Summer rolls, which are my favorite and these didn't disappoint. We also got a stir fry of Chicken and Veggies and just Veggies. The service was quick, our waiter was attentive and nice and the prices were very resonable. I'd definitely go back.

Great cheap

By Conrad |

Great place in the heart of Chinatown. Near the subway. We did a late night stop here on our way back to the hotel. Was very surprised with the food and the taste. Happy with the service and price. Food tasted good. Was a little westernised for me but still a cheap place to go.

DISCRIMINATORY TIP

By Sara A |

I came to this location with a friend who frequently comes here. I was excited for the first time to try Vietnamese food unfortunately I had an experience that REALLY HURT ME. We received the food and ate where everything was going well. However when we received our check.. TIP WAS INCLUDED. It wouldn't be a problem if everyone of EVERY RACE RECEIVED THE TIP INCLUDED IN THE RECEIPT. However come to find out because my friend (who is of Asian descent) and I (who is of African American descent) were together.. they decided to put tip included. My friend was very irate and asked to speak to a manager. She spoke to a manager and the tip was taken off with LOTS of apologies. My friend had told me they NEVER included tip and other African American patrons have also experienced this. When we left they were saying come back next time while laughing. I will NEVER COME BACK TO SUCH A DISGUSTING ENVIRONMENT. This is VERY UNACCEPTABLE AND I AM UTTERLY DISGUSTED. I will make a complaint to BBB about this. I don't want them to EVER get away with this!!

good and solid - pho

By JoeHouston52 |

We had a quick and inexpensive lunch ($37 for 3 with tip). Two of us had pho - shredded chicken (swell) and grilled chicken (OK). The other diner had a beef dish that was barely touched. Service is very good.

Not too salty!

By davbratz |

Vietnamien or Chinese food is often very salty and you end up gasping for water an hour or so after eating it - even if it is excellent food. This was NOT the case in this place. I had a noodle soup which had a homemade chicken broth which was excellent. We also had the squid which was very good too. Be careful, the restaurants in China town tend to close quite early (around 10/10.30 pm in the week). I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area. What I love in NYC is that you have a cleanliness rating in the window of every restaurant. 'A ' means excellent and 'B' or 'C' is not so good. This place has an ''A' so reassuring in terms of cleanliness too.

Nice Pho

By tara1709 |

We were there on two occasions. On both occasions, the restaurant was well patronised. Some of the staff appeared flustered and the service was inconsistent. The menu is not all that extensive. I was, however, satisfied with my order - the #6 rare beef rice noodle Pho and a plate of small spring rolls. The Pho was flavoursome and the beef very tender. The spring rolls were fresh. The price was also very reasonable. We had to wait a bit for our bill as our waiter left for the night. This restaurant could be better if menu selection was more extensive and if the staff offer better service.

Great menu so much choice

By Peter S |

Thins place has a really large menu. The food come super quick and it’s pretty good. You get a pot of jasmine tea and that’s pretty unlimited which is nice. Good service, good food. What more can you ask for

A good Vietnamese option in Chinatown

By CJToti |

I was visiting Chinatown with my cousin and felt like eating Asian food, tried to go to spicy village but it was closed. So we settled with this Vietnamese restaurant. We had the appetizer phoe, summer rolls, and a Chinese/ Vietnamese rice noodle with beef. The food is good but definitely not very good. I have had the best phoe in the streets of Hanoi so I definitely appreciate authentic Vietnamese food - which this place does not offer. I would not return to this place because there are way too many better options in Chinatown, but if you are in the mood for decent fresh Vietnamese food, this restaurant is a good option.

Tasty

By Jennifer D |

I was luck enough to have this Restaurant not far from where I was staying in Chinatown. Food was exceptionally tasty. I has spring roll - Vietnamese style, calamari and chicken with broccoli in oyster sauce. All cooked to perfection, fresh and tasty. Staff were friendly. Beer cold but not impressed with wine selection- mind you I didn't expect much from the wine list in a Vietnamese restaurant.

Delicious food

By Babette O |

We have been on holiday to Vietnam a couple of times. The food in this restaurant was just as delicious as it was over there. Very large portions as well. We took some of it back to our hotel to have as a snack later on. If we didn't live so far away we would certainly be coming here often.

Went for the Pho and wasn't dissapointed

By Ian C |

Have spent 6 months scouring Manhattan for good Pho. This restaurant on the sidelines of Chinatown delivered. The crowd are Asian, the service is fast, the menu is extensive, authentic and the prices are spot on.

My favorite pho in NYC. Everything is always delicious here.

By Brian G |

Not only the best pho in NY, but a huge menu of traditional Vietnamese specialities. I've been coming to this gem of a restaurant for several years now and they are consistently good. I love their eye round pho on a cold winter day. Their spring rolls are great any time of the year. Really, every dish we've ever had here has been fantastic. The prices rose dramatically after COVID, but if you want the best pho in NY (still reasonable and filling at around $16.00), this is the spot. It's located up the block from the Grand St. B and D subway station on the far less touristed side of Chinatown. With the walk or the subway ride. Enjoy!

Very tasty

By Minh D |

I'd recommend Pho at this restaurant. I had a quick brunch so could not comment on many of the dishes but the Pho was quite good actually. I'm a native Vietnamese and I have to say it's one the best I have tasted in the US so far.

very good rice noodle soup

By Tomskatesnyc |

a good Vietnamese restaurant should be rated by their soup, rice noodle, meat, vegetables and service. Other dishes too, and cleanliness. But the "pho" soup is really a standard, I think you'd agree. Another pair of standards: always crowded; they have three shops (below Wall St.; Roosevelt Ave.; Grand St.)

Very Good Pho & Grilled Pork

By kesilo |

I enjoyed the Pho here and is the best Pho I have tasted so far. I had the sliced round eye beef with the a Pho and the medium size portion was very filling and there were ample sliced round beef in it. The grilled pork chop was wonderful. So were the fried spring rolls. Service was friendly and the prices very reasonable. Will definitely return.

Busy place for dinner time!

By OISEAU_K |

I arrived just before 20:00 on weekday. The restaurant was quite full, there was no queue but still occupied most of tables. When I saw the menu, the price for pho(regular size) looks quite reasonable compare to the other Vietnamese restaurants where I have been in US. (about $6.95?, anyway less than $7 excl. tax). The other places were about $10 to$12. Hesitating to order entree, just ordered one pho, While I eating, found the quantity is not sufficient for me.. just 2% less than my stomach space. So ordered GoiKuon. The picture of the menu was quite samll, but when it is served, BIG 2 pcs GoiKuon showed up! Of course it was too much! The other person, next table, he was also metioned it was too much.. hahaha I saw his plates, he ordered even 3 dishes. Anyway, plate prices are reasonable. Better to go more than 2. Then you can share some of dishes that would be better idea to eat here! Taste are OK. In New York, I do not think you can find reasonable place like here.

What an amazing find! Super impressed

By Maricci Ivanov |

What an amazing find! Food were perfectly seasoned and the portions were unbelievable! Very generous! I would recommend and I will definitely be back

Great food, great value

By PrefersSolo |

I'm a local and live right here in the financial district. We went to Nam Son for the first today and we just loved it. The food was delicious and fresh. Price was more than reasonable. Service was good. Highly recommend the iced coffee with condensed milk, summer rolls and lemongrass grilled beef. The vibe was pretty low key. Not too loud as Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants sometimes can be. Looked like most of the customers were not tourists but locals, which is always a good sign. We'll definitely be coming here often!

Nam Son: The Good, the Bland, and the Fugly

By rasruss |

The Good There are many good thing about the Pho from Nam Son at 245 Grand Street in Chinatown. The meat used in the Pho Tai doesn't seem to be carved off of some frozen block of roast beef purchased at Western Meats. In fact, it's probably the best Eye of Round I have had in any of New York's many Pho joints. It's juicy and tender and doesn't arrive overcooked in the soup. The rice noodles are good too- they are firm and aren't overdone into a gloppy porridge. Properly cooked noodles are easy to cradle with your chopsticks, while overdone ones are often slimy and tend to slip back into the gelatinous mire. It's difficult to top Nam Son for the meat and the noodles, they seem to do these better than just about everybody else serving Pho in New York. Still, however important these two staples are, there is a third element in the holy trinity of Pho ingredients: The BROTH, which brings us to The Bland On the day we chose to eat at Nam Son, our dreams of Pho grandeur were dashed against the rocks of a lackluster broth. One may say it was even watery, which is generally not a good word to use when speaking of broths. We've probably been to Nam Son over 20 times, and to be fair, we have had much better broth than we had on our last visit. I'm not sure what it was like in the kitchen that day, but I do know that Nam Son is constantly dishing out Pho, and water is constantly being added to a stock pot concentrated with the flavor of beef bones. A lunch rush can throw the delicate balance of flavors into disarray, especially if the pot isn't given sufficient time to "digest" the added water. Nam Son was busy the day we visited, as it often is, so to this we will chock up the bland stock, which was notably missing a good dash of salt and perilously deficient in star anise. For more info and pics- check out http://mylifeinnoodles.blogspot.com/2011/08/nam-son-good-bland-and-fugly.html

Delicious Vietnamese Food!

By VermontTeacher44 |

It was difficult to make a choice from the menu after walking by many tables where diners were enjoying delicious looking food. We finally decided on the $27 "menu for two" which included spring rolls, rice cakes, beef, vegetables and lettuce for wrapping. There was also an interesting piece of sugar cane wrapped with some sort of shrimp mixture. It was not hard to become members of the clean plate club!

The best Vietnamese rice noodle soup ever!

By JViviana |

The number one is super good! I recommended this place by one of the locals here in Chinatown. Really good rice noodle soup. Ask for the small, it's filling! Recommend this place hands down :)))

Nam Son Vietnamese Restaurant Experience

By marhow2001 |

We were in SoHo and unable to get a table at two of the eateries we had found on line so wandered over to China Town and found Nam Son, which was most busy (always a good sign at lunch time). The extensive menu offered not only Vietnamese dishes but also some basic Chinese dishes and a whole section for vegetarians, not common in most traditional Asian restaurants. Almost all the patrons were ordering pho but being a hot and sticky day in NYC we opted for a tofu curry and a stir fried pork dishes with lots of ice water to drink. The food was good and served family style with super sized portions. The service was quick and thorough but not rushed.

Good but average

By ShuoMX |

The taste is good but nothing too special. Comparing to other restaurants in New York, it's not an expensive one but the dishes are pretty easy to make.

Friendly, easy dining in China Town

By Jenjitru |

Tasty dining at Nam So'n restuarant in China Town. Very well priced, friendly staff that take time to explain the menu and unlisted options! The experience is not rushed as with some other restuarants. Great eatery!!!

Great Pho

By Wee_g65 |

This place serves great pho. They have quite a range of menu, the seafood is also very good. Nice place for authentic Vietnamese cuisine.

AVERAGE VIET FOOD AND RUDE STAFF

By Ivbp68 |

The staff was rude and in a hurry. The food was okay. NYC offers better Viet places. I don't recommend this one. After our dinner the server included the tip in our check and I told him to remove it but he said "that's our policy." Pay attention when you get your check. We will never be back. Thank you but no thank you!

The best Asian restaurant ever

By Katka85 |

I went there for lunch with a couple of friends. The food was delicious. I had the best calamari ever as a starter. Chicken and noodles were also very tasty.

My Vietnamese food joint for over 10 years!

By nytvd |

This place is great and getting there you pass all of the fantastic seafood stores next to it. My family loves coming here, the food is amazing. My wife loves the shrimp dishes, my son loves the pork chops on rice. The soups are also excellent. Green papaya salad is awesome.

Good authentic Vietnamese food

By Jens Christian R |

The atmosphere and smells from the kitchen were attractive from the moment I walked in the door. Coming straight from Europe on an 8 hour trip mad me very hungry and tired. I ordered pho , traditional Vietnamese soup with fish balls and fried spring rolls. Everything freshly made and served quickly with a smile. Like being back in Vietnam.

"Great Vietnamese Food"

By Clara S |

It's one of the best places for Vietnamese cuisine. The food was great. Service was excellent. It was casual and relaxing. The price was reasonable. Enjoyed everything about this restaurant and would love to go back...

Good food, very fast service - recommended!

By HaskelUK |

Popped into this large restaurant on impulse to taste some Vietnamese food. We had some very tasty chicken dishes at very reasonable prices, no frills type of place with lots Asians eating there so we took this as a good sign. Service was super fast.Recommended!

Must visit for Vietnamese food lovers

By Saikhanaa Z |

Everytime I visit NYC i stop by this place. Sometimes I bring people, and this place never disappointed me. I've been to Vietnam too, and their food tastes very original.

Food was very good, A true vietnam cooking. Price and cheap A place with nice circle table. Do not hesitate it's the best adress for vietnam food in NY.

Good Vietnamese food, generous portions and reasonable prices

By JamieNYC |

I was here for lunch today and ordered the "Suon Heo Lan Bot Chua Ngot" (sweet and sour pork) for $10.75. White rice was included. They served complimentary tea but I ordered a Diet Coke ($1.75?). I enjoyed my meal. My pork dish consisted of chunks of pork inside a roundish batter in a sweet and sour sauce with vegetables mixed in. There was a lot of food on the plate. It didn't knock my socks off or anything, but was good. The interior was bright and pleasant. One wall was adorned with prints of Vietnam and the other wall was mostly made up of a long mirror. My table was wobbly but I didn't ask to be seated somewhere else. They had a lot of customers and NAM SON must do a good business considering I was there in mid-afternoon, when you'd think business would be slow. Most of the customers seemed to be Chinese.

Safe bet in Little Italy

By Arneby |

No frills dumplings, vietnamese rolls and more. Maybe a wee bit more spiciness would have been nice.

Good food and good prices

By Partssales |

I was in China Town for work, and ate here 2 of the nights. Good food, very genuine Vietnamese. Prices extremely reasonable for New York.

One of your best bets in Manhattan Chinatown for Vietnamese

By itztwan |

About as good as it gets for Vietnamese in this area. They're authentic, consistently good and the price is right. I'd like to clarify for the greenhorns that being authentic does not mean that there's offal in every dish, but rather that it's available if you want it. A couple friends and I gave them a real test of authenticity a few months ago when we asked for quail eggs. They had them on hand but had never actually served them before so they whipped some up for us and hardly charged anything for it. They weren't bad for the cook's first go at it but hopefully since we put quail on their radar they'll consider incorporating a final version into their menu.

Simple and good

Located very close from metro station, Nam Son is easy to reach. Staff is very friendly, service is quick and food is very good and light. Go there with no hesitation.

Good Food, Service & Price

By gczars |

My Wife and I were in NYC for a few days and wanted to have a good Vietnamese meal. We were not disappointed. The restaurant was full of locals . The menu is extensive and is supplemented with daily specials. We particularly enjoyed the vegetarian spring rolls which we rolled in lettuce and mint leaves and dipped in sauce. The waiter (of mexican descent-go figure) was very helpful with suggestions and explanations as to what we might like to enjoy for dinner. It made for a delightful evening.

Very good food and good choices for vegetarians.

By Roy A |

Soup was very good. And the rolls ad well. Highly recommended. Good prices. We would go there again. ....

Delicious:)

By Adam M |

Delicious, tasty and fresh! Portions are very big, prices resaonable, service helpful and kind! Highly recommended:)

Friendly & Yummy

By WillBJust |

Easy to get here from Times Square. About 5 stops on metro and found restaurant as soon as we got out from station in Chinatown. Broth is very refreshing. Opt for the beef soup and shrimp rolls.

Bad service

By Elya G |

The food was good, but the service was terrible. There were no greetings, no questions about my food (“does it taste good?” for example), I hasn’t even finished my food, when the waitress brought me the bill, that I never asked for. I assume they treated me this way, because I look Asian. The stuff was unfriendly and seemed to be in a hurry, laughing and gossiping about other guests. Even though I left some tip (about 4%) and went to the toilet. On my way out the stuff stopped me and asked for more tip. Which I think is not politely. P.S I work as a waitress for many years already. I know what tip is about and how important that is.

Good Pho in Chinatown

By smagmags |

I hit this place up on New Year's Eve, and got the Pho Dac Biet. It was quite good. Not Eden Center or Upper Darby amazing, but pretty dang good pho. I was served quick, it was hot, cheap, and yummy. The place has a weirdish decor that doesn't feel like the typical Viet place, but it was still comfy and I had a great meal.

Good pho lunch

By YM443 |

These days I've been craving Vietnamese pho in NYC. This is my first try for this restaurant . I ordered combination of beef pho, which was very big size bowl. The broth was good, not too salty or too much MSG. I added Siruccha sauce to spice up its taste. The server was friendly and attentive, refilled my tea frequently. Around $10 with tax&tip.good value.

Excellent! Order #38!

By sinfin165 |

Everything on the menu is great and the wait staff are super nice! Vietnamese Food. Close to D train on Grand Street.

Great stuff!

By Sea-mew |

A vietnamnese restaurant that feels genuine. You can choos either easy stuff you know like fried rice and more cmplicated stuff where you biuld your own meal at the table. Delicious grilled shrimps! And since the locals seems to go here, the prices ar very good.

Cheap Eats in Chinatown

By Lady911Driver |

Ate at Nam Son while in NYC on a getaway with my husband and it was very good. Super convenient as it is literally a stone's throw from the Grand Street subway station on the B and D lines. We had Vietnamese crepes, a rice stick and chicken bowl and shrimp and pork along with spring rolls, all for about $24.00. Very filling too. Don't expect anything fancy but service was pretty prompt, tea comes with the meal, and they have a huge menu and all kinds of sauces on the table. Lots of fun plus Chinatown is always interesting. I'd do Nam Son again.

My favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Chinatown

By SojournerMallorca |

We usually eat here when we are in Chinatown. They serve good, honest Vietnamese food and reasonable prices. The place is clean, efficient, and full of Vietnamese customers. We usually have the Pho and the bun. And, of course, the Vietnamese ice coffee is not to be missed.

Unfriendly and biased, average food

By ann o |

Expect Asian customers with no reservations to be seated first, even if they just came in and you and your kids were on line for 30 min; I had some sanitary concerns about that place as I looked at the back of the restaurant; Food is very average and extremely overpriced. We had both pork and beef, no42 and no98 on their main menu. Also make sure to double check your bill before paying: we didn't order all of our food in one chunk and whatever was added on was double taxed to inflate the bill - when they add a dish to a bill they add sales tax to the price of it and then they add sales tax again- this time, to the gross total of your bill.

Simple atmosphere, AMAZING, mouth watering Pho

By climbinggirlnyc |

A friend of mine brought me here sometime in the past year for the first time. The. Pho. Is. Amazing. Delicious. I've tried another place that did not compare in the slightest. The broth of the pho is just so delicious, it somehow manages to taste savory and almost a little sweet (although to be clear - it actually isn't "sweet" and my friends wonder what I'm talking about). It is just a delicious pleasure for the taste buds. Also a big fan of the vietnamese (hot) coffee in the condensed milk. Truth be told, I tend to just add a splash of this to the condensed milk and have that (once again, I'm a bit of an exception here). The service is quick and polite, the atmosphere is simple, the food - so great. My mouth is watering thinking about this place

Authentic Vietnamese food

By Charlie M |

The food was exactly what I ate on my trip to Vietnam. Don't order a starter unless you are very hungry! Main course was more than enough for us

Where did the herbs go?

By Eva-Quirinius |

We ordered the usuals, which in itself were good, except for the herbs that seemed to have gone missing. Bahn Xeo normally comes with a selection of herbs, but all we got was lettuce and mint. A shame, as the food as such is great. Please beef up on your coriandre again!

What a feast!

By Eva-Quirinius |

Wow, what a great Vietnamese restaurant. After our 3 week trip to Vietnam earlier this year, we are in love with Vietnamese food. So, when we discovered this Vietnamese restaurant close to our hotel in Chinatown, we tried it out. And it was good. So good, that we ate here four times in one week time. During these meals we had, among others: Ban Xeo, fresh summer rolls, Vietnamese salad (alas without banana flower) and Pho sateh, and they were great. We also had some dishes with bbq-ed meat, but we found those dishes too 'meaty' and not very Vietnamese. The restaurant was quite busy, so others enjoyed it too. Anecdote: as in Vietnam, we said "em moi" ("em oi"?) to get the attention of a (younger) waiter. That worked perfectly with one young lady but not with the other waiters ... they didn't speak Vietnamese.

Reasonbly priced great food

By NCredleg |

My wife and I were introduced to Nam Son by a neighbor who had frequented the restaurant while on a work assignment in NYC. The restaurant was just around the corner from our hotel in the heart of the China Town fresh produce and fish markets. ALL of the menu choices we selected were outstanding...very fresh and well prepared and presented.

Very good Vietnamese food

By 1987porsche944 |

I love this little place, but for some reason I thought they had Banh Mi. I didn't see it on the menu the last time I went. Maybe they have it and you have to ask for it? We got a curry soup and a vermicelli noodle dish with grilled pork and spring rolls. I crave this food so much! I wish I lived closer so I could get it more often. Service is casual - it took us a little while to flag the waiter down and tell him we wanted to order. Not usually an issue, but we had a movie to catch so we wanted to rush. The hot Vietnamese coffee is tasty and wonderful, with the evaporated milk at the bottom of the cup and the percolator perched on top. They even give extra hot water to ensure a full cup. The restaurant is a decent size, service good, food great. I'll be back!

Awesome papaya salad

By Johnnnny_G |

Not sure why this place gets 3.5 stars. Fast friendly service. Super food and great location. The pho was flavorful and generous. The prices very reasonable for manhattan. Ok the papaya salad was out of this world! The spring rolls awesome. Is it as good as you would get in Saigon? Probably not but you're in Chinatown

Offering some tasty Vietnamese cuisine with a great selection of phos and other popular Vietnamese dishes

Pretty tasty, good value for the price

By joe m |

Well, I went there with a couple of friends of mine and we were positively surprised to be served a great portions of authentic and tasty asiatic food. This restaurant is pretty much packed in the evening, the fast service insures a quick turnover of customers and you almost never wait for ordering or anything else once you are inside.

Fair prices, decent food

By Kevin Campbell |

Nothing fancy here at all, but the food is all decent. Both the fresh summer rolls and fried spring rolls seemed freshly made - more so than the frozen/fried nuggets you often find. Food was perfectly cooked and well seasoned, and the prices were all reasonable. No complaints and I'd happily eat here again.

Excellent authentic Vietnamese food

Very convenient homestyle Vietnamese food

By OZinNY (Don Lee) |

Nam So'n is one of the better Vietnamese family restaurants in Chinatown. The décor is basic and practical. The service is fast and the staff can be brusque, though we have often found them more friendly and helpful when they are not busy. I think its greatest asset and attraction is its location - it is on the section of Grand Street closest to Grand Street subway station. Chinatown can be pretty crowded, especially on a weekend, so you will certainly appreciate its location. Bún Thit Nuong (Grilled Pork over Vermicelli Noodles) is one of our favourite dishes and this is well done in Nam So'n. In general, you should find the food here nicely prepared and reasonably priced. For two servings of Bún Thit Nuong and a small Tiger beer, we were charged $19, tax included.

SCRUTINIZE YOUR BILL! THEY WILL TRY TO OVERCHARGE YOU!

By SanDiegoNavyDoc2010 |

Don't get me wrong; the food here is DELICIOUS and the service is PROMPT. When I received our 'bill' for the dinner, I was shocked to see it read "$65.00," and was NOT in English. There are some menu items that you can 'mix-n-match' half-menu item selections instead of having to buy an entire (full) order. What is NOT stated (in ENGLISH) there is an ADDITIONAL CHARGE of $5.00 for t his option. Upon seeing this, I mentioned it to the manager, who stated "Well, maybe the waiter just forgot to tell you." and expected us to pay! NOT HAPPENING. The green tea pot they place on the table as you sit down is NOT free as our waiter said. They tried charging us $6.00; to which (again) the manager said "Maybe the waiter forgot to tell you." NOPE....I asked BEFORE the pot hit the table. Other FULL menu items were added to our bill when in fact they were only HALF orders. Long story short: They *TRIED* to overcharge me $24.75 on my dinner bill. After I REFUSED to pay until it was corrected, the bill came out to ONLY $40.25. THEN...after I signed for the charge, the waiter HANDED IT BACK TO ME and said "You forgot to include a tip!" After I bit my lip (almost drew blood); I said "Are you KIDDING ME? You blatantly overcharge me thinking I would not check and you expect me to pay a tip? I don't think so!" Now that I'm back in San Diego, Ca (home), as soon as I receive my email alert from Navy Federal Credit Union for the charge, I'm going to make dang sure the final bill has not been tampered. **SCRUTINIZE YOUR BILL, FOLKS!""

usual local joint, only place that has vegetarian pho?

By Noora K |

I don't live in Chinatown but it's worth a short trek to get here for the Pho, especially for the vegetarian stuff. The meat phos are good too. large portions and good price. I don't eat meat so I order the vegetarian pho which is very bland but clean. Put the spices and herbs in! I always get the papaya salad with shrimp. Don't expect anything fancy though! The only thing I really wish is that they wouldn't use those cleaning sprays when people are eating next table. That bothers me a lot, but what can I say it's a cheap place. I had to give 5 stars because I come to only this place for pho. Try the spicy squid, tasty.

Delicious Food, Reasonably Priced!

I visited Nam Son on Septmber 13, 2017 while visiting Chinatown with my family during our trip to New York. We found this restaurant based on recommended reviews. We wanted Pho (rice) noodles and hot soup for lunch and this restaurant provided exactly what we wanted. The soup was steaming hot and the Pho noodles were plentiful to go with the hot tea we had with our meal. There are 20 different Pho noddle options to choose from alone on their menu. I had a bowl of Dac Biet, Bo Vien, it came with Pho noodles in hot soup and meatballs made of beef. The bowl came in a hearty portion and I still had plenty of leftovers when I was finished with my meal. The restaurant is decent in size with a quick turn around. There are many items to choose from on their menu including Pho (rice noodles),Mi Xao (pan egg noodles), rice dishes, appetizers, seafood, chicken, pork, beef, and vegetable dishes to choose from. I was very happy with the meal I had here with my family. The prices are reasonable and the food was hearty and delicious. I will definitely come back the next time I visit Chinatown.

Go there - you won't regret it!

We had dinner there three times there during our five days in NY. The restaurant is highly appreciated by the Asian locals which seemed to be a good sign to us and we really enjoyed each and every meal there. It's really authentic Vietnamese food and the prices are absolutely reasonable.
