Next Best thing to a home-cooked caribbean Meal

By Tanisha M |

I love Negril Village! This is my favorite west-Indian restaurant to dine- in at. I have been going here for the past few years and I have never had a bad experience. The food is great, always comes out hot and fresh. You are able to make reservations and if you do not make reservations you should expect to wait a while, mainly on the weekends. The atmosphere is great, it brings a mixed crowd and the music is perfect for the setting. The staff has always been polite and the drinks are good. I recommend this for a date night or just ladies night out.

Food has never let me down!

By Lenny G |

I can't explain how much I love the food at this place. Good, authentic, amazing. Had the mussels the first time I visited and the sauce is off the charts! I believe it's an appetizer but I ordered another bowl lol The second time I had whole red snapper with okra. It reminded me of when my dad cooked okra. So good and homey. You have to eat here if you're every in New York!

It’s ok

By STRANJAH |

The atmosphere was better than expected, definitely not the place for a quiet evening. The food was not hot enough and depending on the night you may be waiting for a while to get service. The portions definitely does not match the price they charging per meal. There are definitely other places I would consider before visiting this location again. This is also another if those places that does automatic gratuity and I extremely loathe restaurants that try to force tip you when they have no clue if you enjoyed the service. A tip is measured by the level of service received not the amount of people dining.

Amazing!

By Mspf22 |

Food was delicious, server (Gabriel) was great! Gabriel went above and beyond to making our dining experience amazing. Celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary here! Can't wait to go back! Authentic Jamaican cuisine and beautiful ambiance. Too dishes, guava bbq wings and jerk shrimp!!!

Soecial

It has a special vibe and good food and service. The sea food was nice big dish very good. We had the cheese cake for desert - not more then nice. Down staris they have a place with dancing. The prices are OK.

Watch out for this place

By tcoz1955 |

The food is interesting, with goat stew very unusual. But, the place was dirty, the bathrooms filthy, and a sign on the wall when you enter says they reserve the right to search for weapons. We had drinks, but decided against eating there because of the above. Good and very strong, but tasty, local mojitos.

DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT Plan

By Anna |

DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT Plan a dinner party at this restaurant......horrible, horrible...smh. So for starters I Initially emailed this lady name Tameka requesting a certain date and time for my dinner party I didn’t receive an email until about three or four days later. I requested information regarding my party, the size of my party and the prefix menu Tameka did not get back to me in a timely fashion so I decided to call the location and I spoke to a guy name Patrick who was apologetic and explain to me the process that I should’ve put the maximum number of your party and then later on if you need to decrease you can decrease but Tameka never told me that which I explained that to him and he again apologize and he transferred me to Tameka because she’s not responding to any of my emails. Tameka wasn’t able to accommodate my party size of 19 guest, so had to cancel on some of my friends people who was traveling from out of town. I made my choice regarding my prefix menu and I was sent a detailed invoice with 15 guest for Saturday January 18th at 10pm sharp (if we late 15mins late they can or will cancel my reservation) my menu selections along with the service fees......I paid the bill in full. I received an email 1 day later asking me my menu selection and it was needed by Thursday 4pm ...smh which was already on the invoice. So on Saturday my guest arrived at 9:40pm, I informed the host we have 12 guest due to the weather 3 canceled he said no problem...now it 10pm I told the host we’re here, he said we are waiting for a party to finish.....now it’s 10:35pm and we are still waiting at the bar (which mean it’s over a 15min Grace period, should I be getting a refund???)....so we finally got seated at 10:55pm we waited over an hour to be seated for reservation dinner party never received an apology...unprofessional. They brought the food out, forgot the salmon...I had to ask for it smh....everyone was eating already then they sent it out. So at the end I asked regarding my refund for 3 guest the waiter said take to the manger on Monday then 30mins later he told me the manager wants to see me. So the manger Monique told be me they don’t give refunds and I explain to her Tameka never told me this, I explained all I went through from the beginning...smh....she said it should’ve been in my email or my invoice, so pulled up my invoice and emails to show her it wasn’t written so how am I supposed to know???, she just kept saying sorry. PLEASE NEVER PLAN A BIRTHDAY DINNER AT THIS PLACE HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE....extremely disappointed ☹️ Negril Village 70 W 3rd Street, NY

30 person Dinner

By Marisol W |

I just had my birthday dinner (30 ppl) here and everyone really enjoyed themselves. The food and drink were on point and the service as well. I believe this was a good value for the money when it comes to a per-fixed menu. The only thing that would make it better was if they had an area or room to close off for your guest. All in all I would say Negril never disappoints and always feels like home and I do love this place.

Good Food but the service

By RWright22 |

Negril has a great crowd and good food but they rushed us out for the next reservation and wasn't nice about it at all. We had an 8p reservation and the host told us we needed to leave because he had a 9p coming in but he didn't approach the people next to us who had been there longer. We weren't even offered the dessert menu. Not sure if I'm bringing my money back there. There are plenty of options in NY.

Not so good time...

By Janine S |

I've been to this restaurant a few times before and had good experiences. However, the first time I went with my partner on a Saturday, he had a terrible experience. He didn't like his frozen drink and they wouldn't take it back. They said we would still be charged; that the most they could do was 'alter' the drink. Really?! Also, since there main bathrooms downstairs were/are closed, there was a long wait for the bathroom which was right next to the kitchen. Unfortunately, not the greatest location for a bathroom as I saw flies in the kitchen/restroom area. My coffee was lukewarm to top off this not so good visit.

very good food

Awesome Food; Customer Service Needs Improvement

By Taylor27023 |

There was no warm welcome at the door. We did not have reservations, but came in at the beginning of dinner service. The place was relatively empty, but we were still initially seated by the kitchen door and the noise was quite obvious. Per our request, the host reluctantly seated upstairs. The server was excellent. He promoted the specials and made recommendations. The coconut rum punch was ab

Amazing Caribbean food with high end and lively atmosphere

Fantastic food. Bourbon salmon was fantastic!!! As was the jerk chicken ....cocktails were amazing too. Can personally vouch for the negril mojito! We will definitely be returning!

Birthday Dinner.....such a treat!!!

By Blessed_831 |

Planned to eat at this Greenich Village restaurant for my birthday (Labor Day Weekend aka West Indian Carnival Weekend)...I should have made reservations but we just winged it. Were told the wait was 30 mins and in 30 mins our table was ready. The music was good...it was a packed house. Service was good, food was reasonably priced and it was oh soooooo good! There is a club downstairs should you want to party. Fun times with friends and great food is always a great way to end a good night. Will return!!!!!

Wonderful service to match a wonderful meal

By 0AD0 |

Coming from a jamaican background, when I go to a Caribbean restaurant, I hate to say it but when it comes to service I've resolved to keeping my expectations low. Because the food is usually so good, I've come to overlook that issue and its normally forgotten by the time the meal is done as all the focus just becomes about my belly. So I was pleasantly surprised when I came here during a recent trip from London to New York. We found it completely by accident wandering the streets looking for a store, and promised to come back on the Sunday for a meal, and it was well worth the trip. We came for the Sunday Brunch menu. We had the ackee tostones and jerk wings for starters. Both Unbelievably good and only made me wish I'd ordered double the ackee tostones... I'm fussy about my ackee and plantain but both were perfectly ripe and cooked to perfection with minimal oil. The entrees we had were chicken roti and oxtail. Both were so tender, freshly made and the callalloo that came with the oxtail tasted like someone had picked it out the back only a few hours before! There was no room for any more food as the portions were more than generous. We didn't have to wait long for the food to come out and the staff were attentive and made sure everything was ok without being too intrusive on our conversation. The bathrooms were clean contrary to what I've read in other reviews! the n,y downside being that they were just a touch too far away from the main dining area. i liked the special touch with the steel pan musician playing while we ate. my only criticism if you can call it that would be that, as much as we all agree we love him, the amount of Bob Marley playing on the cd made it feel a little bit touristy, but its the only criticism i could come up with an its a pretty weak one! i would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone and wish to thank the staff for a lovely accidental Sunday Brunch - 10 out of 10 for service!

Authentic food and great staff

By A K |

I went to this restaurant with a few people on a night out and the atmosphere was great, the staff are really friendly and know the menu really well because most of them are Caribbean as well as are the chefs which is good because the food tastes authentic. The food is tasty and the portions are good we ordered a selection and shared each others dishes which is a good thing to do if you want to taste a few things. They played a lot of reggae music which added to the atmosphere and in the evening the bar downstairs opens so you can have a little dance after dinner. Having Jamaican parents I can say the food tasted authentic and the rum punch is powerful I would definitely recommend! I went back another time for lunch and it is quieter but still a nice experience, the bar doesn't open until the evening though so if you want more of a buzz you should go for dinner.

Oxtail

By AlwayInLoveWithItaly |

I have been to Negril's on several occasions. Their oxtail is always delicious. My friends and I have all ordered it and loved it. A bit spicy, tender and nice and saucy! The cocktails and service were also good. I haven't had any issues to date. However, I haven't had any of Negril's other dishes. (I love oxtail and don't find it very easily so I order it when I can.) Negril gets very crowded and noisy, I always make a reservation before I go.

Second time here and the food was still good as we remembered from previous visit. Our waiter and the bartender were extremely nice. Love the atmosphere. Reservations are a must !

Excellent

By Wayne D |

The food was delicious..the right spice's and the right drinks too compliment the food. Jerk chicken is one of my favorites and the plantains were nice and sweet.

Amazing food!

By DayDreaMer875 |

I can not rave enough about this place! The atmosphere is really chic and the music highlights the chill vibes. This is a go-to spot for good 'ole Jamaican cuisine. The ackee tostones are a great beginner and practically all of the entrees are top-notch.The oxtails are to die for! Curried goat, amazing! Chef's Plate, great choices and enough for 2! A definite recommendation.

Great Music, food and drinks

By J Fran |

We made reservations for Negril and we thought we had ample time (clearly this Floridian isn’t up on train times in NY because we got delayed twiceand once we got off the train we had like 5 minutes to make our reservations. Talk about reviving my high school days and sprinting to the restaurant. We got there and was seated down stairs in the lounge because upstairs was packed. It wasn’t the ideal situation for a late dinner because they had a DJ playing and it was hard to talk but we worked it out. Service was good- we waited for a while for our food which wasn’t a big deal because h music was popping. I ordered the Hennessy Punch and it was great and strong. For dinner I had the Escovitch Fish ( anyone who knows me knws I’m Obsessed with Escovitch Fish) and rice and beans. The food was fresh and really really good. It was worth the wait. The fish was flaky and flavorful. The rice was cooked perfectly. We got to eat dinner and jam out to the music- taking mini dinner breaks to get down on the dance floor. Dinner was great! The drinks were really good and they weren’t cheap on the liquor. After dinner we spent the rest of the night on the dance floor. Working off all the food we ate! Cuz I have awesome friends,we all taste tested each other’s dishes and everyone else’s food was good as well. Loved the experience and the food

Great food!!

My favorite place to eat and I always have to stop in and have their stewed chicken, macaroni and delicious cornbread!! Food - delicious as always!!!

Not a Fan

By DaniKi |

My husband and I dined here the Friday before Valentine's Day. It was highly recommended by a friend. When we arrived at around 10 pm, the place was packed. We waited over 45 minutes for a table. When we were finally seated, we order the chef's tasting plate for 2. It came with jerk chicken, curried goat, oxtails and two sides (we got the sweet whipped potatoes and collard greens). We also ordered the cornbread and Village Island Punches to drink. The service was prompt but most of the service was done by the busboy and not the actual waiter. Everything was really average and not worth the wait or crowds. The next morning, I got really, REALLY sick and I believe it was the food. Wouldn't eat here again.

Everything Was Right at Negril!

By Slick12 |

From the moment we walked in, the hospitality was on point! Maurice our server was one of the best servers I had on my NYC weekend trip! The food was excellent! I had the red snapper and my friend had the oxtails. Both dishes were fantastic! Now, the Long Island Ice Tea I had was da bomb! I am sooo glad that we spotted this place as were just strolling along in the Village. It was my first time in the Village, but you can beat that the next time I visit NYC, Negril will be a must! Keep up the great work...you make NYC proud!

Negril Village review (Greenwich Village location)

By krivera1007 |

Food is excellent, nice music and ambiance. Rum lunge downstairs plays great music as well, reasonably priced drinks. Only negative is that they added tables downstairs in rum lounge so people are dancing while others are eating. Otherwise the upstairs restaurt is amazing.

Excellent

Great Jerk chicken with a wonderful sauce. Seafood creole, also a must. Their mojito is also very tasty!!

Hidden gem for the health conscious people

By Virgin-Queens |

Yes this place is a hidden gem. This is a two levels restaurant: main and lounge. The main side is noisy and busy, the lounge is busy too but is niece and no kids. The food here is really tasty with an upscale presentation. We had fresh steam okra, salmon on a light mango sauce, quinoa with beans and plantain and could not help it, Jamaican bread pudding. Of course, you can over eat if you are not watching, but believe me their menu is variable. The service is a little slow because some dishes take a little longer to cook. Drinks are also good. Overall experience Excellent!!!!

Great ambience

Great location in lower Manhattan with good food and music. The food selections can be pricey. Everybody in my group enjoyed the time spent at this location.

ALL AROUND GREAT!

I was in NYC for vacation and I been to Negril before for my birthday, but this time was Superb, the food is always great and the service but I loved the fact this time the drinks were stronger

Great for lunch!

By Jodi V |

Visited this restaurant for lunch on a Saturday, which was free of the evening noise and crowds. Chose one of the $12 lunch specials and it was delicious! Server was attentive and knowledgeable. Good choice - would like to come back for cocktails and/or dinner sometime!

Cool Place

By Pree1964 |

I've been here before but never wrote a review! Cool Place. Exciting, great energy, staff is cool too! It can get crowded but its worth the wait. Food good, DRINKS awesome. Downstairs, okay I guess management decided to put dining on the lower level! I say NOOOOOOOO, bad choice! I'm sure you make more money but! Leave that area for dancing only! You can't hear your conversation(s), the poor waiter is struggling to hear you and vice-versa. Just too much. People dancing all around you, just overbearing to be honest. I started downstairs, and made my way back upstairs. DJ is awesome but he has to be versatile, don't play carribbean the entie time, break it up, give a taste of everything. Oh and charging a cover for the lower level----well if your dining in, you covered that fee when you ate and drank. I'm on the fence with that!

If you're in the village and want good Caribbean food and music, try Negril. The oxtail is on point.

By michelle t |

the oxtail is on point. Stop in for lunch or dinner. There's even a lounge downstairs to shake your legs if you so desire.

Delicious

By Michelle71 |

Booked this from London for partners birthday dinner and from good reviews for trip advisor. We ordered mixed starters, mains of oxtail and jerk chicken with side of macaroni cheese. The starters were really nice, the fish cakes had a good amount of fish in them. The oxtail was lovely, and I have had my share of oxtail in London where there is no end of Caribbean restaurants/take aways. The macaroni pie, delicious. The atmosphere was great, playing good music, the staff so nice and friendly. In the booking I must have specified it was a birthday dinner, they came to the table with a little cupcake with a candle in it, out of nowhere, really nice touch which many places would never do. The wait wasn't long, as other reviewers have mentioned, they were super fast, although it was a week night, but it seemed every table was taken that night. Although I would say they bought the mains out whilst we were halfway through our starters, but then took them away after seeing my face. Even if we waited a little longer, I wouldn't have minded. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone going to NY and tell friends to visit.

Birthday Dinner

By Dannie K |

Overall, it was a fantastic experience. We were a party of that drove from NJ here for dinner. The food was excellent, and the servers were all very nice. Just a note that they include a 20% gratuity in the price of the meal, but so do a lot of other restaurants now a days.

Skip dinner here and come during off hours

By Cynthia M |

This was a tough one to review. I came to dine here on a Friday evening and though it is a typically crowded night for restaurants, which I am fine with, something about this place was just a bit out of control. Maybe it was the acoustics of the place, but the loudness was almost unbearable and you had to yell just to have a conversation with the person right next to you. I am all for lively restaurants but this was almost chaotic in nature. So my first suggestion to someone going here is to go during an off time and you will have a much better experience. Next of all, service was very rough around the edges. I am not sure if the waitress taking our order was still in training or what, but while writing down our order she seemed to be transcribing the dictionary because it was really taking that long to write things down. She had no sense of urgency, she was pretty rude and not hospitable at all, she took forever to give us our drinks (we received them halfway through our meal) and she did everything with an attitude. I understand that everyone has an off night, so I tried to be extra nice and thankful for whatever she did, but that did nothing to change her attitude and she remained very hostile throughout the evening. The saving grace here was the food. The curry goat roti (though filled with bones) was very flavorful and a great sized portion. The escoveitch was tasty as well and my mother thoroughly enjoyed it. The cornbread was moist had the perfect amount of sweetness. The jerk chicken wings, though they had a nice flavor, were a bit on the slimy side and could have been crisped up a bit more. Food was worth coming here for again but I would hope that the service issue was just a fluke and come here at a quieter meal time.

Great Place for friends to meet

By Artsylena |

This was my third time at Negril and I must say, third time is the charm. Not once a bad experience. The staff is great, service is fast, food is awesome and when you go with friends or a friend, the experience is exceptional! I will certainly be back and will highly recommend this restaurant to everyone.

I had a great time at Negril. We ordered the oxtails, jerk chicken wings and Mac and cheese. Everything was good and our server was great!

Negril Village (Greenwhich Village Location) "So Disappointed"

By Cheryl h |

Deeply disappointed had been to Negril's many times before...This time I wasn't happy with the service. The sampler wasn't complete, the order was slow in coming out plus the food was cold, the shrimp were grill to much so the were dry, as well as the rice and peas. The chef was very much off on this day they missed the mark. I was raven to a family member from out of town how great this place is, needless to say they weren't impressed. The waiter apologized along with a discount of 10% still the damage was already done. Can't say that I'll be back. Very, very, very Disappointed!!!!! glenn h/

Excellent Caribbean Food

By indyadrienne |

I always go to Negril's when I visit NY for work. This time I happened to be spending the day with my family that had never been here. Everything we ordered tasted fantastic!!! The jerk chicken was great but their oxtails stew is the best that I've eaten in any restaurant. I can't rave about this restaurant enough. You have to taste it to believe it.

Awesome Stuff!!!!!

Love, love, Love 🍴🍹.....Comfortable, classy atmosphere. Warm & Inviting. Love the food...Everything on the menu is an Experience within itself....

Lovely Restaurant

Amazing food and a great atmosphere within Negril village! I would highly recommend this restaurant to my friends and can't wait to come back next time I'm in New York. Food was delicious and the cocktails had proper measures of alcohol which was a bonus.

Great upscale West-Indian Cuisine!

By Natasha M |

I recently went to Negril Village with some friends for dinner/drinks on a Friday night. This place was awesome. It is a little on the pricey side for West Indian food and the portions are smaller than you would get at a typical island restaurant, but the presentation and taste of the food made up for it. The ambiance was great - there was reggae playing in the background. We had the ackee tostones and codfish fritters for an appetizer - I might need to drive back to NY today, they were that great! I love ackee and the combination with the tostones was one of the best I have ever had. For dinner, we had jerk chicken, the escoveitch, and the rasta pasta. The presenation of the food was impeccable and the taste was authentic. The food took me back to Jamaican street corner but with an upscale atmosphere. To our surprise, after dinner, there is a lounge downstairs that plays reggae, dancehall, hip hop, etc. We made our way downstairs and thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Can't wait to go back to Negril Village!

Good dinner

By EHutson |

This restaurant is usually packed. Reservations recommended. There is a lounge area downstairs if you want to party after dinner. Difficult to find parking. The food and drinks are pretty good. I've been here about 3 times and will continue going back.

Yum

By Godiva0318 |

I came here recently for lunch with two friends and was not disappointed. The vibe of the restaurant was great and our waiter was friendly. For appetizers, we shared the jerk chicken wings, which were tasty and juice (great seasoning), and the cornbread, which was also yummy. I had the coconut salmon, which was very good, but just a little dry. One friend had the oxtail stew. The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender. My other friend had the ackee & saltfish, which was great. We also shared a pitcher of mango mojito. It was good, but not quite worth $42. I would come back to Negril Village, but would probably go for dinner.

Used to be Awesome

By MsMoses84 |

Been here three times so far. Last visit was the worst of the three and I don't think I will return. My family is Jamaican, I have lived in Jamaica, and I am used to authentic Jamaican food. Negril Village isn't only Jamaican. It is described as West Indian food and much of it is but most of the menu is Jamaican. Anyway, I ordered the escovitch fish appetizer which came with bammi. The bammi was not fresh: tasted like it had been fried, put down, and then reheated for my order. Anyone who has eaten bammi before knows that cold bammi is terrible. The portion sizes also are not justified by the cost. My husband's family is from St. Kitts and Nevis and even he didn't think the food was great. I also think the portion sizes have shrunken. I'm sure there is better to be found in NYC. The atmosphere is fun for a group dinner outing but beware it is quite loud inside. The downstairs is a lounge: I have never been down there except to use the bathroom. A cool hangout spot but not the best if you're looking for tasty West Indian food.

Horrendous Experience

By Jennifer D |

I attended a graduation dinner on June 26th and the food was good, our server was nice and we had an overall good experience. BUT my good experience ended there! My phone fell behind a booth and I was not able to get it out. I spoke with the manager, Andrew, and he said he would take it out that night during closing and will call me. He never called. I followed up the following day but he was not in and no one knew about the phone being behind the booth. A few days later, I got in contact with Tameeka. She took my information and said that a manager will call me back. No one called back! I called again and spoke with another manager named Stacy and she said she has tried to get the phone out but that since the booth is stuck to the wall it is difficult to do so but she will keep trying and will call me back. She never called! On another day, I spoke to Jonathan who said that a manager would call me back. That did not happen! I spoke to Shamar one day who said Stacy was contacting the restaurant owner and property owner about getting the booth removed but that they would need to contact the state’s buildings department. At this point it had been over 2 weeks and I was furious. I told him that this sounded like a bunch of bull and I was tired of being told I will be contacted and no one has yet to reach out to me. I told him I have a toddler and walking around without a phone is not good when I cannot be reached! Still, no one called back! My boyfriend went down there last week and meet with Stacy. She said that the owner wants the booth to be removed professionally not to damage anything. They had a contractor there who quoted them $500. They expect ME to pay this!!! I do not see how it’s my responsibility to pay this and not the establishment’s nor can I get a straight answer from them. This was last week Thursday, July 18th. It is a week later and Stacy still has not called us. My boyfriend called her and she stayed the owner is now on vacation. So again, she said she needs another week. Today is July 24th which is 4 weeks after me losing the phone and at no point has anyone showed concern or handled this situation with a sense of urgency. I hate that this happened and am extremely disgusted with the lack of professionalism and communication with the restaurant staff and management. You might enjoy the food but make sure not to drop anything, you may never get it back!

Village Island Punch and more!

By Brigitte H |

Visited this hot spot with my brother-in law who is Jamaican and highly recommended it for food and drink. First of all let me say that I was initially taken aback by the drink prices as $17 a drink seemed a little steep for this joint. However, I quickly found out that it was well with it, as the drinks are potent. The village island punch packs a mean punch, as the bartender does not spare you on the rum. Trust me, one may be all you need; it’s one stiff cocktail. The jerk wings were good and the pepper did not overpower the chicken like it does at some spots. The oxtail stew, curry goat and red snapper are must haves on the menu. Feel free to order the combination plate in order to sample a more than one dish. FYI, they do not allow for substitutions so make certain you like what you order. The mac and cheese and plantains are perfect accompaniments for those with hearty appetites. Come hungry and I promise you’ll leave satisfied. The means taste like home cooked meals. I look forward to returning sometime in the near future.

Yummmmm!

By MsAlwaysRed |

I love Caribbean food and my friend that lives in Brooklyn by way of Jamaica recommended this place and it did not disappoint. The food is high priced as are the drinks but it was eye-roll in the back of your head good. I had the jerk shrimp... oh so good and then the Curried chicken breast roti (trinidad) and I was in heaven. The roti was not dry and full of flavor! I'd def be going back.

Good food

I was very happy with the service received by our waitress and the food was really good. I was there for a friends birthday and they accommodated us really well.

OMG!!!

By BrooklynChef23 |

That's all I can really say! The food was absolutely scrumptious, the drinks were decent priced and strong, just how I like them! The service was great and welcoming and the atmosphere is very romantic. I can't wait to go back! They even have a club/lounge downstairs on certain nights/times. You will not be disappointed!

its a constant experience of good food...

By K L |

courteous staff and nice mix of patrons. Nothing has changed from the first time I've visit, years ago. Every time I go there are no complaints, all is well and same as previous visit. What was lovely to see this evening was "bring our kids back" written in big white letters on bar mirror. Each one Love one.

Food was good.....but definitely overpriced

By Hammom |

The food and service at Negril Village were good, but definitely overpriced. Also, you are required to pay a minimum 18% gratuity even for a party of 2. My 12 year old son and I went for lunch and our meals cost $100.00......definitely an overpriced lunch....:(

great place for dinner

I went for our annual Christmas dinner with the company I work for and I must say that the food and drinks were great. The staff was very courteous and friendly. The drinks were very good we had sangria and mojitos and i must say it was perfect. The food was Delicious and it wasn't too much were you felt overly full. It was just right. I will definitely go back whether with a crowd or a dinner date. i really had a great time

Negril Village is authentic west Indian cuisine. The atmosphere has a is authentic west Indian cuisine. The atmosphere has a island vibe. The food is absolutely amazing, it will leave you wanting more. But I must say the food is very pricey.

Overall Just Average But I Would Give it Another Try

By DDTravelover |

I really was looking forward to checking this place out but it did not live up to my expectations. We ordered a sample platter of jerk shrimp, jerk chicken wings, collard green spring rolls, and fried plantains. The standout was the collard green spring rolls. For the entree I ordered the shrimp and grits which was disappointing. The portion size was rather small, the food was cold, and the grits were not very good. The service was just OK. But I am willing to check it out again since I did like the ambience.

A little treat

By Al A |

Went there for an evening meal, difficult getting a table for two, space was a bit cramp as it appears they are trying to fit in as many table as possible despite how much it restricts customers movement. staff on entry was friendly and my server was great. However, for the price I expected the food to be better. Overall a reasonable good evening out.

Surprise Date Night Dinner

By Michelle C |

Its been years since I have been back to Negril. The food is good but honestly the kitchen can make some adjustments. The food IS authentic Caribbean food. The drinks are GREAT and the music will make you dance. I had the fish which was good but here is where the kitchen could make an adjustment to the plate it was served with peppers and onions and sides of yucca and plaintains which it not so bad, BUT a true Caribbean plate would also include rice and beans. Not pictured is the oxtails which he enjoyed. The shrimp was delicious but needed some acidity maybe serving it with lemon or lime would be help. The corn bread was good. I would go again of course but maybe try the shrimp and grits or the roti.

Unforgivable Experience

By pauline h |

My friends and I decided to go to this location, as it had been a while since we had been there and even though it had been years, we had a good experience. Well, let me start by saying, we did make reservation, however we got there late. This was a Saturday Evening. Upon arriving, the hostess asked if we had reservations, to which we replied yes. Looking around we saw, two people at a table downstairs and a group of four upstairs. (not sure why the hostess was so eager to ask about reservations) I promise you, those were the only patrons in the restaurant at 5:00 pm. We were seated with menus and 10 minutes later, no one had come to the table to even offer water.....I mean, how busy could it be with 6 patrons that no one even bothered to acknowledge us. We made the decision to leave and upon walking out there was no apology whatsoever. I take it that there was no manager there at that time or the workers did not feel like doing their job. How RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL could you be to your patrons? I would never go back there. I wonder how well this place is doing considering the rude behavior from the workers. Pauline H.

I LOVE this place!

By lovelyinparis76 |

Whenever I'm in NY I always try to dine here. The codfish fritters are the best thing on the menu and I highly recommend them. The mimosas during brunch are also very good. I love this place and am never disappointed.

Great oxtails!

By LeeMacL |

Had a craving for oxtail stew and headed for Negril Village, where I'd last eaten years ago. The oxtails were as expected, tender and tasty with collards and rice and red beans, a side of very good not greasy sweet plantains. Can't vouch for other food but if it's oxtails you crave these are delicious!

Jay-Maican Food

By NuJerzee610 |

Host told us it would be a hour but it was only 15 minutes that was good . Ackee Tostones was very good , oxtail had a little spice which was excellent , sweet plantains good and the curry goat was the way it was suppose to be . I'm a light weight when it comes to drinking the Montego Bay Iced Tea was strong but good .The place is a little loud but you can hear your partner without screaming so it was ok the music was great . Service was excellent No complaints we will return .

Fun with friends

.The food is a lil spendy. The ambiance is good and I had a great time with my friends. Make a reservation because they stay booked.

Delicious Food!

By Cyncerely |

Wow!! food excellent and service great! Started with appetizer sampler, and then the curry shrimp, yummy. Try the white wine sangria. Call for reservations ... long wait if you don't. Will definitely go back when I in NYC again!

WOW

By laura b |

Negril was recommended to me by a friend and my friend gave Negril a lot of credit. I took my mom to Negril to celebrate her birthday and she enjoyed her meal. The bathroom was clean. The food was tasty (negril sampler, salmon, steak, salad, shrimp, and roti). It is very hard to please my mom and it was great to see her with a smile on her face.

Good Caribbean Food and Drinks in the City at Negril Village.

By SunSeeker114 |

If you're looking for "GOOD" Caribbean food in the city, this is the place to go! The food is very tastey! My favorite is the curry goat, with collard greens and rice & peas or the jerk wings. The rum punch is a must have! After having one, you must have another (they're that good). The staff is very friendly and attentive. If you plan on going over the weekend, make a reservation. This spot tends to get busy on Friday & Saturday nights. Happy hour is great at this location as well. The drinks are worth every penny. The dishes are mainly Jamaican and Trinidadian based.

Too Close For Comort

By partyplannerl |

I went to Negrils Restaurant based on recommendations of a few friends. The food was good but it was just to close or me. it has atmosphere if that's what you are looking for, I just don't like being so close to other parties while having a meal and trying to have a conversation. Aside from that the food is good. I had the brown stew chicken and I enjoyed it.

Disappointing visit

By trinbajanchocolate81 |

So we headed to Negril to celebrate a birthday. Our group was not seated together but close enough and we made it work. We had a pre fixe menu, but some elders in the group could not eat what was on the pre fixe. We asked if they could be accommodated on a separate check and we will still pay what was needed. The female manager on duty said this would confuse her kitchen. (Welllll ok ) Anywhooo-- after a bit of harsh words she decided she would help. We placed our orders and the food came out in a timely fashion. It looked very good-- until I went to dig in and pulled a long strand of hair out of my food. I'll just say I'm rocking a short hair cut. The same manager came to address the situation and quickly changed the order. We all ate and moved on to dessert--- chocolate brownies!! They looked great-- until someone else pulled a long strand of hair from their own. Negril clearly has a lot hair flowing in their kitchen. Ewwwww! And I'll pass on all invites back. #disappointed

West Indian food; down home service

By Plizatnum |

Ate at the bar with a colleague and was served by Tristan. Had the crab cakes - which were not all that great (a little oily), and steamed veggies. The atmosphere on a Tuesday night is pretty nice. Sophisticated - though not stuffy - mid-30's professional crowd, which a lounge / club downstairs that I images pops off on the weekends. Plus the bartender was cool... checked on us when he was supposed to, left us alone most of the time. This place was a little pricey for my taste: $50+ including tip for two people who didn't even order a full dinner. Overall - it's a decent date spot or a place to relax with colleagues, but don't expect a whole lot of food unless you order the $30 dishes on the menu.

Vast improvement!!

By ChungF88 |

I recently went to the door with my daughter, brother and sister. I know I recently posted an not so inspiring review for Negril before, but I was greatly surprised when I went this time. The food was nothing short of spectacular. One thing I tried that was new was the Ackee tostones. I don't care for ackee but Negril changed my mind. Everything came out delicious. I'm glad they stepped their food game up and will definitely be looking forward to going back.

Love this place!!!!

By Anisha C |

I went to Negril for the first time and I must say, this place is fabulous! The food is great! The service was on point. We received our appertizers, food and drinks FAST! I definitely will be returning. Love it!

This is good!

By gladtobehome039 |

This is one of the best Caribbean restaurants I have been to. The menu selection is great and the presentation excellent. Service was first class. Very helpful and attentive staff. The prices were good for the quality of the food. We had the sharing platter which was plenty for two people. My codfish fritters starters were lovely and light. No dripping in oil as in other places. Drinks were good value. We went on a Friday night and it was very loud. The music was good though. Good atmosphere. This is not street food. There should be more restaurants like this that properly showcase Caribbean food.

Great Food

By Njelah |

I you dont mind WATING very long for your meal then your reward (after standing at the door & staircase for at least half an hr) awaits you. The atmosphere is great, its a buzzing VERY busy restaurant. Cocktails are awesome.... so much alcohol it took me 2 drinks to start slurring my words :))) If you want a quick bite you can order from the bar & sit & eat it there. We went there on a Sat nite, it was horribly busy. It took us over an hour to get seated. Overall, I'd eat there again anyday. The portions are huge, food is well tasty.

Husbands Birthday

By PatriciaWatt |

We celebrated my husband's birthday at Negril Village. The service was excellent. The waiter recommended the appetizers which was excellent. The drinks were awesome and Nuff liquor. We ordered our food everyone enjoyed their dinner. They all complemented on my excellent choice of resturant, and the staff, so nice. I have no complaints. The female DJ rocked the house she was killing the hip hop, reggae and R&B. Will return. Thanks Negril staff for a wonderful night to remember.

Great times!

By Sam40 |

Reservation was for 6pm. We were seated by 6:02..excellent! The waiter was great and answered our many questions. We ordered the jerk shrimp which was fabulous.. Our meal was the chefs tasting.. This was our1st experience with curry goat and it was a wonderful surprise. The taste of all of the dishes was superb.. The bread pudding is an absolute MUST!

Great food, great staff and great atmosphere!

By mapglobal2 |

A review of Negril Village is long overdue, so lets get busy! There are a number of excellent Jamaican/Caribbean restaurants in the City, but Negril is probably my favorite. I used to go to the one on 23rd St. all the time, but since they closed that one I now frequent the Village location. The atmosphere is laid-back cool and the background music has you humming along to reggae music all night as you polish off delicious plate after plate. On this particular night, my lovely (and always ravenously hungry) partner and I had the jerk platter which consisted of spicy grilled salmon, shrimp, chicken and mussels. The jerk seasoning was excellent. For sides we had rice and peas and cornbread, both of which were delicious. If you’re coming here for the very first time, then I would say go for the sampler as an appetizer (codfish fritter, jerk shrimp and chicken) and then classic dishes like escoveitch fish or curry goat, just to have more variety in flavor. But, of course if you have just get the jerk platter…then your tummy will be quite happy, I’m sure. I also love the service there, as it’s always polite and professional. On more than one occasion I have asked for special this or that, and they have consistently bent over backwards to take care of things. I really love their attitude there, I have to say. In closing, if you’re looking for a place where we New Yorkers go for great JA food, then this is your joint. I go there quite frequently, and I have never, ever been disappointed. Yea mon, just go and be happy!! Hope this helps.

Brilliant - "proper" Caribbean food

By Andrew H |

Excellent Caribbean food - we discovered this restaurant by accident just going for a walk around Greenwich Village. This is proper West Indian food as we remember it from our holidays there - the only thing lacking is sunshine but the flavours and Negril's mojito more than made up for that. Go here if you like spicy food, highly recommended, and really good value for NYC!

Delicious rotis

By Drpresident |

My friend and I both had rotis. There are split peas between the layers of the wrap, as is only right. The quantity of seafood in the seafood wrap was plentiful. I could taste garlic and curry powder but few other spices. The portions were generous and the service was attentive.

Good food, tight space.

By cdulcina |

The food was good. I had the jerk rubbed chicken and I enjoyed it. The broccoli was really good. I'm not sure what they seasoned it with but it was really good. I was not happy that they had a prix fixed menu but I am happy with the meal I had. The space was a little small. I felt as though I was right on top of the person behind me. Other than that it was a nice place and I enjoyed myself.

Very, very authentic

By Ty E |

The food was amazing. The service was perfect. The ambiance was a prelude to a very fun, sexy, and seductive night. Loved it. Will def one back during my next visit to NYC!!! Jerk chicken, oxtail, curry goat.... Banging!!!!

Good Food

By Alex D |

Very good variety of Caribbean cuisines. Restaurant was very clean and staff very professional. Drinks were small and expensive. Did not see any drink specials available in the week.

Pretty good.

By Druaboyea |

My family and friends in New York swear by this place and while there a good time was had by all. The starters were excellent, as were the drinks, but the jerk chicken was a little dry, which was disappointing. The waiter however was very very good, as was the ambience. Not the easiest place to find but you likely won't regret when you do.

Great Food,Great Drinks, Great Location

By IndyBelle2014 |

My first trip to Negril Village was quite the win. I joined an old college friend, and she and I split a sampler plate ( I can't remember the exact name on the menu). Everything was wonderful. Our platter included ox tail which was very tender and delicious. I also had the coconut rum punch. It was a good balance of sweet and strong. It was one of the best rum punches I've ever had (even better than the last time I was actually in Jamaica). I'll be back in New York next week and will be staying in the NYU area for a conference. I definitely hope to stop in again.

Our first Jamaican food

By Kathy C |

We were guests of our daughter and her friend whose parents were both born in Jamaica. We weren't sure what to expect, but found that we loved it. The grits and the collards could have come from the table of any of my South Georgia relatives. The goat curry was delicious as were the plantains and everything else we tried. My husband and I both enjoy trying new foods and this experience was definitely positive. Also, the service was outstanding. I was in a wheel chair from a knee injury and the staff was extraordinarily kind and considerate.

Real Authentic, Real good.

By Allison C |

Whenever I'm craving true island cuisine, I always turn to Negril Village. There's something truly magical about their jerk— spicy, flavorful and authentic. If you're going in two, I strongly recommend the Jerk Treasure. This dish is built for two and includes spicy grilled salmon, shrimp, chicken and mussels in jerk sauce, rice and peas, sweet plantains, and a side salad. The restaurant has two levels and is relatively spacious. If you're just looking for an exquisite happy hour, stay downstairs at the Rhum Lounge, where you can sip on a delicious Dark & Stormy while enjoying an in-house DJ playing Reggae, Calypso, and Rhythm & Blues music. No matter what, you won't be disappointed.

Mothers Day Nightmare The Worst wildest Dining experience

By Ladawn T |

My very first time going I was excited bc I heard great things about it, the atmosphere was nice. We Took Our Mother for Mothers 5/12/2024 day, wow where do I start, it was 7:50pm we arrived, we waited not too long sat down, waited for 10min minutes before anyone even served us water it was Not crazy busy bc 3 people were standing at the bar staring at us, the girl finally comes to take our order after the male had come and never came back. She is so uninterested and so incompetent about the menu and how to even take care of Guest, she lacked guest services. After finally taking our order an additional 15min later we ordered a stew, Roti and jerk.wings sampler with fritters and empandas... she tells Us at 8.34pm after we had been waiting for just water...It would take about 30min before our food comes out! My mom says Ya know let's go to(Privately) Jasmine's Carribean in Hells Kitchen, we leave Manger comes tells us to stay He will throw in a desert. We didn't need that but mom wants to be nice.... Do you know this Girl server(From Jamaica) cleared our table quicker then she served Us. And then we finally got our food 17min later after we sat Back down..Now 9.15pm and she didn't reset the table apologize or anything she just looked at us and Said Oh your staying. Left 1 bowl on the table and 1 spoon there is 3 of us. The manager Never Came Back to Check on Us or ask If the Service was any better... they then tell us Oh we know the best dessert for you it's coming. We said wait Mom wants Mango cheesecake they say she'd love the Bread Pudding. Didn't ask us for allergies or what she wants again this is Mothers Day... then we tell them No.Cheesecake. that is the one thing they finally agreed too..it was Good. but The Lack of Respect Integrity Or Service in General.. Disappointed we slightly lost it at the end.. then they put gratuity on the check Says it's a NY thing... we live in Harlem oh..(we Know... )and We will make sure this Review is posted in different places.. you never Treat people this way.

Great Carribean Flair

By Ron W |

Very good food and delightful atmosphere. My son had the Shrimp with Grits and said it was great. I had a jerked chicken which was also very nice. Prices were reasonable. We only had a party of two, but the waiter took the liberty of including his tip on our bill. I don't know if that is standard practice, but be sure and check your bill closely.

They steal tips from your card without warning. Watch your receipt!

By Oluchi E |

Worst place to eat! We went to this place from out of town after reading fabulous reviews. We wanted a taste of Jamaican delicacy. A quick glance at the menu told me this was a bad idea. The food was overpriced and the portion small. When the bill came, I noticed $20 royalty added to my tab. I asked the waiter and she said it was a tip and it's their policy. No one warmed me! They forcefully took money out of my credit card without informing me. I was so upset. Even if I wanted to tip, I didn't like the tactics of stealing it from me first. It should be at my discretion. I can imagine waiters getting tipped twice by unsuspecting customers. The curry chicken was all bone! It was so small my 5 year old wanted more. The food isn't as good as they say. I've had Jamaican dishes and I can tell a good one. For example, the jerk chicken wasn't really jerk. It wasn't soft. It was grilled chicken glazed with mild jerk sauce. We ordered the chef's tasting for 2 and the waiter told us it was for two people. It came out looking so small my husband I busted out in laughter. It wouldn't feed 1 person. This is a terrible place.

Excellent food

This restaurant was recommended by a friend, and I was not disappointed. The vibe, and food were excellent!

Great unexpected experience

By EdwinHochberg |

Over the very many years I have eaten at the earlier Negrill restaurants. I have always found them a very nice, rather inexpensive Caribbean restaurant in Manhattan. I'm sure in the outer Boro's there are many more choices but this was one of the few in my area. I was happy to find this new reincarnation (the 2 other restaurants had closed) in the West village near New York University. Everything about this restaurant was wonderful. The decor was upscale and inviting as was the host and serving staff. The wonderful vegetable soup, curried goat and accompanying vegetables made for a great meal. Although this is not an area we often go to I will make it my business to go there as a destination restaurant.

Caribbean Delight!

By Robyn M |

A delightful restaurant in Greenwich Village, this is a nice spot for a lovely meal. With different and ethnic dishes, come here with an open mind and excitement.

Just Sisters

By Lisa A |

Each time I visit this restaurant I am never disappointed. The food is great. The crowd spans from NYU College students to tourists just wanting great carribean food! Not to mention you are in the village by Washington Square Park. There is also a lounge downstairs if you are interested in dancing and hearing some music. Loved hanging with my sister most of all.

Food was average

By Dotty R |

I went to the Restaurant on February 6, 2015. The food was average, but I did not like to be asked to pay a tip after using the restroom! I went downstairs and there was a woman sitting near the bathroom. I went into the bathroom and then she went in behind me, after finishing in the bathroom she then handed me a soap and towel. She was expecting me to give her a tip of at least a $1.00 I feel after paying for a meal and tipping the waiter, why should I have to tip someone else when I wanted to use the restroom? I have been to fancier places like the Marriot Hotel and Las Vegas and never had to pay a tip. I feel this policy should stop

Great Caribbean Food

By Kim O |

Love the seafood roti - shrimp, lobster and salmon!!! Also, enjoyed the sorrel mojito. I've been to this restaurant a few times - I prefer dinner and lunch to brunch.

Terrible service, rodent infested!

By Solange S |

This place was absolutely disgusting. Went out to celebrate a friend's birthday and we found a DEAD RAT under our table. The host came over and instead of apologizing the first thing she said was we need to understand that rodents are to be expected in these areas of the city! They were absolutely rude and told us they can "Only do up to 25% off our bill" she then tried to belittle us and said the only other thing we can do is call 911 and file an incident report and that'll take days and we shouldn't waste our time contacting the health department because rodent infestations are common. Other servers were just laughing and treating the situation as a joke. I will never go here again. The staff is immensely unprofessional and the eating conditions are clearly unsanitary.

Never returning here after being a patron for 12 yrs

By agnes9971 |

I am a huge foodie known in many NYC restaurants. Have been coming to Negril for the last 12yrs. Have eaten in the main restaurant as well as partied in the downstairs lounge. On Feb 17, I came with a friend and decided to eat in the lounge since main restaurant was very busy. Several booths and high tables were open, but we were offered only the worst middle tables with the explanation that all others were reserved. When we finished dinner, most of those booths and tables remained available. Here comes the horrible part. We spent almost $170: ordered two drinks each, 2 appetizers, entree and 2 deserts. As we were trying to enjoy our final drinks and desert, we were told we had to leave by the unrelenting hostess in the lounge. She stuck the menu in our face explaining the two hour time limit. Soon after a manager came over saying the same thing. NEVER in my many years of dining in NYC, have I been kicked out of a restaurant, citing a time limit. I’m a regular in many high end, well established restaurants where I lingered at times for 3 hours, and no one ever kicked me out. Even for Valentines Day, I have stayed at a restaurant for over 3 hours and despite so many ppl waiting, we were never asked to leave. After this horrible and shocking experience, my friend and I went to another known NYC restaurant where we are regulars for the last 15 yrs. it was full house and we told the maitre’d that we would only have drinks and possibly an appetizer, he said no problem. We were offered two of,the best tables they had available and after ordering only two drinks and an appetizer, we were given two drinks on the house! And yes the place was full and busy on that Saturday. Maybe Negril will learn how to treat its patrons. It hasn’t after all these years. To be fair to its wait staff, service has always been excellent. Paul, my waiter was friendly, kind and sweet. He gets five stars.

EXCELLENT!!!!!

By Tania J |

I love Negril Village!!! I've been there quite a few times and the food is great!!! Excellent service!!!! Please make a reservation and don't be late it's very difficult to find a table especially on the weekends. Great atmosphere A+

Awesome food, vibe and music

By Melissa92507 |

I had a wonderful time at Negril Village last night. The food was rich with as much flavor as the music. I will definatetly go back.

Good music and drinks

By Jemeka |

Came here with a big group and we were seated downstairs right away. I assume this is the club portion so music was a Lil loud for dinner convo. I ordered some kind of negril drink that was creamy and spicy. It was really good but pricey for size. I didn't like how the food items were coming out one at a time. A meat and 2 sides I wanted together. I sent back my rice because it was cold. But the food was actually good (glaced wings, rice and peas and plantains). Portions were small for price as well. This seems more like a lounge, not an actual place for dinner mainly. Their portions should be a Lil bigger. The music was a good mix and I enjoyed the dimmed atmosphere while dancing. Would eat here again but just maybe a quick appetizer.

Great West Indian Restaurant

Haven't been to NY in years. Had a wonderful weekend and happened to stop into the Negril Village. Wonderful fish dinner and great staff. I wish they would allow credit cards instead of paying cash. In that way they could get more customers. Someone in the kitchen knows what they are doing. I will return. Kenny P Durham, NC

Cleaned Plates!

By Tamara |

Omg! First look at my pics below & you will see no words are needed! My friends & I wanted some good 'ole Jamaican food & that's what we got!! We absolutely enjoyed ourselves! Negril has a chic decor that makes it look sophisticated yet laid back. And the music was perfect (we didnt think it was loud like other reviews mentioned). Our waiter, Jermaine was definitely eye candy but more importantly (I think) gave awesome recommendations & was attentive. I ordered the Jerk Salmon and my friends ordered the stew chicken, jerk chicken, jerk pasta with shrimp & pmacaroni pie for the table! Omgeeee! They were deeeelicious! We completely ate everything... like embarrassingly cleaned our plates. Lol Those rum punches (we ordered the coconut 1) are dangerous but oh soo delicious. Definitely on my list of NYC favs & will return!

Scam likely

By Iyana |

I've been grappling with the decision to write this review. My decision was made because I want to warm other patrons of the scam being pulled. on December 20, 2019, 5 of us went to Negril. I made reservations a week prior for a booth in the Rum Village (downstairs area). Upon arrival to Negril, I informed the hostess (if that what she is...she didn't greet us but collects money) at the door that I have reservations for 11pm. She informed me that the charge would be $10 per person. I found that odd that I'd be charged an entrance fee even though I had reservations. I immediately took money out of my pocket and peeled off $50 dollars (side note: I had withdrawn several hundred dollars to cover the cost of the night). When I gave the "hostess" the money she said, "oh, it's $20 per person." I was immediately baffled and told her, "but you just told me $10 per person." Her response was, "oh, I made a mistake." My response to that was I find it odd that you just realized that I made a mistake as I pulled a wad of money out of my pocket. I asked my friends if they heard the initial charge and the concurred that they recall her saying it was $10. She repeated that "she made a mistake and it's actually $20 to get in downstairs." I was extremely annoyed that she quickly changed the price on me but obliged because it was a birthday celebration for my friend and didn't want the night to be ruined. As we were seated downstairs by another woman, I immediately asked her the door charge for tonight and she said it's $10 on Friday and Saturday. It was at that moment that I knew I was scammed. I asked her to see a manager and waited patiently for one while my friends sat. When the manager approached, I asked her what the door charge was for Friday and Saturday and she told me it is $10. I told her of the situation upstairs and said, "well, let's go upstairs because the door girl overcharged me." When we got to the front door, I repeated the situation and the manager said, "oh, she must have made a mistake and forgotten, there are times when I call downstairs and tell them to raise the door charge and I did that tonight about 1 hour ago." I told the manager that since she made the mistake, I should be granted the initial charge quoted to me. The manager said that "since I have reservations for tonight, she will grant me that request." The door girl asked me how many people were in my party and I told her, "I gave you $100." She placed $50 on the podium and I snatched it up out of anger. Once I got back downstairs, the manager approached me and said, "I don't want you to think that you are being scammed...." She said a few other things that I don't recall because I was convinced I was in fact scammed since she and the door girl had the same story about "mistakes." I spent about $500 that night and it was not a burden but I don't like to be tricked and feel I was. I will never visit Negril Village due to this and I warm all others to stay clear since they are in the business of tricking people.

A little oasis in NYC...but needs to step it up a bit to truly represent the Caribbean

By DarkandSmooth |

Great place to have a taste of the Caribbean...in a bit of a gourmet style. But while the food is good, the price is a bit high! With average service...it really is challenging to pay $100 for 2 beers, 2 salads and 2 simple entrees. With no other real options tho I'll still come back.

GREAT TIME TO BE HAD BY ALL

By Swamee |

This is a wonderful venue for great Authentic Jamaican food -- but if you love good food also! They haven't had a bad day as far as service -- the bartenders are a bit cocky and withdrawn -- but that's NY bartenders. Try the pumpkin soup. The Ackee and saltfish is good but a bit skimpy. The vegetarian meal is a bit nofrills -- but it could be worse. Sometimes they try to be too American/European with their servers and service but -- nothing beats good old Jamaican hospitality by Jamaicans -- but you won't regret it!

Great ambiance and great food

By Christine20009 |

I always receive great service and food at this location. The sampler with the curried goat, oxtails, jerk chicken, and plantains is delicious.

Absolutely amazing food and will return. **Disclaimer - This restaurant only takes chip credit cards or cash!

By Curious_Chemist |

Two things to know before going here. First, they only take chip credit cards or cash. There is nothing on their website or posting in front of the restaurant. Instead the waiters are suppose to tell you that before seating. No one did and we had quite the awkward end to the dinner before they successfully ran my non chip card. There is an ATM in the basement for cash, but I do not carry a debit card in NYC. For that they lose a star. Second, there are two locations for Negril Village. One is a residential neighborhood that is west of the restaurant and about a 20 minute walk. Make sure you have the correct address or you will be getting some extra walking in. Those two things aside, the restaurant was awesome and we will be back. It is split into two floors. The bottom is more of a clubbing area, where you can eat and dance. The top is quieter area for sitting down and eating. We chose to eat up top. We had some very very delicious salmon crab cakes as an appetizer. I had the rum glazed jerk salmon, which was wonderful. My wife had the chef's sampler (?) if I recall the name right. It serves two and has oxtail stew, curried goat and jerk chicken. The portions are large enough for leftovers which is why we snagged it. Each of the three dishes were the best of that respective dish we have ever had. The jerk chicken in particular was just.....wow. One last note that may or may not be an issue for some. If women go to the bathroom here on sunday night at least, there is someone in there that will turn the faucet on for you and hand you towels. If you do not tip, they get really pissy. We have never encountered this and I think forcing people to pay to use the bathroom is a bit ridiculous, especially when it is just the women.

Excellent Birthday Dinner

The wife and I visited NYC for my birthday, and we met up with some family friends here for dinner. The ambiance was excellent and the food was fantastic. I had the Negril's Pasta and my wife had the Curry Shrimp. Both were very good. Overall, this was one of the best dining experiences I've had, and I will definitely make plans to try and get back next time I'm in the city

Beautiful Ambience..Good Food

By islandtraveller27 |

Me and my pal went to this restaurant for the first time, after hearing a lot of stories about it..mostly positive of course. Well, we did enjoyed being there..we love the location-it's in a section where there are many other restaurants. I enjoyed the ambience the most, the place is beautiful with nice dim lights, I liked the relaxing reggae music playing in the background, the place is very clean, the waiters were very attentive and friendly. The drinks were delicious. Please try the pina colada and the sorrel colada, you would not be disappointed..also the guava bbq wings are just amazing too. We enjoyed our main entree as well. The passion-fruit cheesecake is also yummy as well. The only draw-back about the place is that it is a little on the expensive side. A three course meal for me and my friend were $88.00 plus the tip..so don't go empty-handed..But overall it was a nice evening!

good music, good food

By Nana B |

Negril is one of the only Jamaican fine-dinging restaurants in the city so for that alone, it makes it worth it. The food is good and the staff are friendly, but you come here more for the ambiance than anything else. The music is always live and the staff are friendly, however, the food is a bit overpriced and that is their only drawback.

Once excellent-now mediocre

By EdwinHochberg |

We have followed this rush run from midtown New York, Chelsea, the Greenwich Village always enjoying the excellent food. It has now become more overseen, very loud and not really much of a restaurant with very very mediocre food. How disappointing.

Great food but please update website reservation

By maine |

Went there on November 8th, made a reservation for 3 on their website for 3pm. While on our way there they called us about 2pm to tell us their kitchen closes at 3pm and to get there before 3pm. I was a bit confused because their website allowed us to schedule our reservation for 3pm. Well we get there at 3pm and the hostess tells us the kitchen is closed and asked if we received their text....I said yes when we were on the train on our way here (they open at 12pm so I assumed the smart thing to do would of been to call us earlier than an hour before our reservation to let us know they have a 3pm to 430pm intermission and that the website doesn't reflect that when scheduling reservations) when we were about to leave the hostess came back and said that the manager said we can be seated but would have to order immediately so we did. At the end of the day all turned out well, the food was great (brunch) I always recommend the curry goat stew and the oxtail stew....for vegetarians you can try the vegetable Rotti. The Sorrell coLada and the coconut rum drink were good. Overall the restaurant is great......just be sure to not reserve 3pm-4:30pm on their website because their kitchen is closed between those times. The server Jermaine was great.

I have mixed feekings

By HubbellGardiner |

The mussel appetizer was very spicy but too many of the mussels were empty. I had jerk chicken with some limp vegetables. The jerk was hot so keep water nearby. We had sweet drinks with little alcohol. The waiter couldn't have been nicer but the rest of the people who work there weren't friendly at all.

Average Jamaican Fair

By Brandi N |

Being from Saint Louis you would think I would be highly impressed by the offerings here. It was just average. I have had better Jamaican cuisine her in STL and DC. Maybe it was an off night but I wasn't impressed. I ordered red snapper and the preparation was lack luster. I started with a salad that came out as a plate of spring mix wit two small tomatoes?? The salad was supposed to have cranberries, cucumbers, peppers etc. I had to sned it back and have tell them how to make their own recipe. It was New Years Day so maybe another experience was prove more impressive. I did like the everything pina colada.

Jamaican Food

By AnastasiaWorld10 |

The Food is great. Anything you order is sure to taste authentically Jamaican. The service is POOR and of course obnoxious. Next time we will get take out and skip the unpleasantness with the wait staff.

Good authentic Jamaican cuisine in a lively club atmosphere!

By HRHCam |

As many here have stated, Negril Village is more of a club atmosphere than a restaurant, although the food is very delicious. Authentic good Jamaican cuisine with a mostly Jamaican staff. The place is always packed. We have only experienced Sunday brunch and can recommend - - - Starters: Codfish fritters with avocado, Grilled Jerk chicken wings, grilled Jerk Shrimp, Ackee tostones, plantains Mains: Negril's Oxtail stew, Jamaican breakfast of Ackee and salt cod fish, Jerk chicken with waffles, Calypso Shrimp & Grits, Curry Goat with Rice and peas. Drinks: Potent and good. Dark & Stormy is a favorite. Mojitos, Sorrel, Ginger beer, many punch type drinks Music: Reggae, Caribbean and a DJ on top. Very good for dancing, but TOO LOUD for dining and conversation! "What did you say? Loud" Irie!

The oxtail was great but the portion size was small

By michelle t |

It had been a few years since I dined at Negril so I took my son for early dinner last Saturday. We got there before 6 and there was already a waiting list. We were told it would be about 20 minutes. Fortunately the wait wasn't that long and we were seated at our table. My son and i ordered oxtail which was so delicious. Unfortunately neither of us felt full afterward as the portion size wasn't generous. I will say I didn't appreciate that the tip was added to our bill. I've noticed that's been the practice of a few Manhattan restaurants lately and it generally catches me off guard. I didnt object to it but it rubbed me the wrong way.

Great Service

By ralvarez0219 |

I Loved All The Customer Service They Were very attentive We were here with our family and the food was delicious we had a platter for 2 which filled us up would Definitely come back

Love this Place!

By readytogetawaay |

Went here for my birthday dinner with husband. We arrived 15 minutes late for our reservation and the host said our reservation had been released and the wait was about an hour. Spoke to second host and he agreed to seat us as soon as next table became available. I get we were late but most places hold the reservation for 15 minutes. Moving on, I had the oxtail and it was really good. Husband had the same thing and agreed. The portions were quite large which is not always the case when ordering oxtail at a Jamaican restaurant. This is my go to Jamaican restaurant when in Manhattan. Added bonus, there is a lounge downstairs and the DJ was great.

One word - mango Long Island ice tea👌

By Cincy |

For my mini NYC vacation, I eat at familiar restaurants (tried somewhere new, too)- checking to see you if after a decade quality is still the same. Yes, it was. Good food, music and spirit. My only other feedback is, customer service could have been better! After the server delivered the food, he didn’t check to see if everything was okay. An opportunity for attention to details, missed. also,it was some time after being seated, the server approached my table. It was busy, not slammed. Other than service, food (a bit too peppery)and drink was very good! I had the Ackerman and Saltfish dish.

Nice and Trendy

By Dayo D |

Loved the atmosphere.. Young and trendy people. Couldnt get a seat on time even though we asked to prebook and was told we could just turn up... Turned up, but had to wait for about 25mins Meanwhile at the bar, the barman had never heard of a virgin colada... Joker! In the wrong business... I asked for a Coverssiuer XO.. just poured a brandy... Could have just said he didnt hear my request. Asked for a 2nd helping of virgin colada... It never arrived... Those little things matters folks! Step up your game...

Great Jamaican

By Michigantravelingman |

Great Drinks and the Jerk Chicken was excellent. Sit at the bar and get to know the bartender - I would go again

Good Food & Service

By Diana |

Wanted some Jamaican food so I came here for dinner while visiting New York. Ordered some mocktails, jerk chicken wings, ox tails and festive. All were really good! The jerk wings had a good spice to them and the ox tails were flavorful. Even the broccoli that came with the oxtails had some seasoning to them. The restaurant had a nice ambiance to it too. Would definitely visit again & recommend this place to others.

Thanks.. but no thanks!!

By Erika F |

I came in town all the way from Virginia to meet my cousin and they wouldn't let me go downstairs with tim's on...I offer to pay and they still denied me. I understand you'll might have a imagine to uphold but you loose out on customers and good reviews. Luckily there were tons of other bars and restaurants that didn't care what I was wearing.

Great Caribbean Atmoshpere and Food !

By Amy N W |

Stopped in here for a small snack and loved everything! The fresh food, friendly service and cocktails were all excellent !

Food quite good Caribbean and reasonably priced

nice vibe to place - went there early (6 PM) so restaurant was pretty empty except for seating at/near the bar. Service was prompt and food well prepared

Official West Indian restaurant with GREAT AUTHENTIC FOOD!!!

By irawil |

This restaurant was recommended to me when I was visiting New York, so I went to check it out one March Friday evening. The first thing that was evident was that the party was in full swing downstairs. Upstairs was busy, but I was able to sit at the bar and order some food. I ordered Rice, peas and stew chicken, and let me tell you it was PROPER!!! Negril Village had me rocking to reggae while enjoying authentic Jamaican food. I hear they do great cocktails in their too, but I washed my dinner down with a Red Stripe. If I was going to be hyper-critical, i would say that I would have been happier if the bar service was quicker after I had finished my food. All i wanted to do at that point, was pay, and go, as I had a bus to catch. Even so, I cannot speak highly enough of this restaurants food and I will definitely be going back any time I'm back in Manhattan. If you are thinking about eating here, DON'T HESITATE, the food will not disappoint you!! Plus if you want to enjoy a dance with music from the culture, you can do that in the bar downstairs. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Amazing food!

By Alicia B |

Went for dinner with my husband during our stay in NYC and we weren't disappointed! The food was incredible! I opted for the curried shrimp and rice and peas with a portion of mac & cheese and plantin - all was incredible. Will definitely recommend!

Nice Atmosphere

By Alice N |

Quick service. Pleasant staff. Great music. The food was great. Oh that curry goat stew... Only complaint; my guy felt he didn't get enough food, it disappeared so fast, but he enjoyed every morsel.

" Terrible Hospitality "

By tanyam35 |

First off our family has visited Negril several times prior to this time. The Place is definitely Not being Managed correctly or YOKI just doesn't care that his place of business is a joke! We had a birthday celebration planned half the guest came 20 min late so the reservation was not honored. After waiting for a table we sat 30 min for drink service ordered all at once with the red flag raised drinks came 25 min later food about 30 min after that. We had about 45 min to eat the waitress started taking our cups & drinks away with half a pitcher left of rum punch we requested to wait for the check she insisted to know what desert we wanted? Not sure about dessert or more drinks we noticed the Manager Yoki send another waiter to drop us the tab. We told them we didnt finish so the manager yoki comes over to our table to say he needs our seats ! We did plan on heading down to the lounge so annoyed we decided to proceed downstairs. One guest forgot ID the same guest who upstairs ordered the pitcher of rum punch for the table. Told There was no way to accommodate us we intern asked Manager Yokio why they allowed guests to drink without ID but not drink in the lounge his response was there is 2 different policies? He then said we could leave come some other time.... having had parties prior we did not require ID as one of the waiters set us up after dinner down in the louge never having a spending limit we did have a great time prior ! I would just say the business it not running correctly or the manager YOKI needs some orientation on food and beverage!

A taste of Home

By George B |

Negril Village restaurant has been a long time favorite of mine for many years & reasons but most of all the food and drinks. The staff is extremely professional and very welcoming. If you are looking for authentic Jamaican with contemporary NYC flare this is the spot. Bartenders Mark (at the main bar) and Andre (at the rum lounge bar) are legendary hosts at Negril so be sure to have them make you a cocktail they will not disappoint. Once you have been to Negril you will be back.

Great food, great service, great music

By SaraDISH |

We dined at Negril last night to celebrate our friends' engagement. One of them is Jamaican and highly recommended Negril. We absolutely loved our dishes and really appreciated the courteous and attentive service. We couldn't get enough of the jerk chicken wings. It was so juicy and flavorful. Loved that it wasn't fried. The jerk shrimp and the ackee tostones were also delicious. For our entrees we had the spicy shrimp & grits and the grilled jerk steak. The shrimp was delicious, not too spicy, and the grits was like beautiful creamy polenta. I ordered the steak medium, but it was served well-done. The steak itself was seasoned well and tasted amazing with a side of Mac n Cheese. We had a couple coconut rum cocktails and were definitely enjoying the vibe. Really had a great time at this Jamaican restaurant. Good food, good service, good ambulance, and best company.

Not Disappointed

By Kuch0101 |

I had read and heard that this restaurant was a hit and miss. But, much to my surprise, it was not. We had reservations for the day before Mother's Day early in the afternoon. We were seated right away and the crowd did not begin to show up until we were leaving around 4pm. For appetizers, we started with the jerk chicken wings and the guava barbeque wings - both were excellent! I had the oxtails which were seasoned just right. It was served with a small portion of peas/rice and collard greens. The portions were not very big so it was good that I also had an appetizer. I think for the price, the portions should be a little bit larger and they shouldn't charge for cornbread. Most restaurants serve you bread or biscuits. The waiter was attentive, but you had to ask to have your water refilled. Oh, and the rum cake was moist and delicious. Try to get there early if you want to avoid the crowd.

Excellent choice if you want a taste of the Caribbean in every essence of the word. It is an all round pleasure of a place to be. Good music, great drinks and food to die for. Superb ambiance. Definitely have the bread pudding dessert and a sorrel mojito. Overall 6 stars for me

Salmon Dinner with a jamican twist - IRIE

By KnitsbyConnie |

So here we are in NYC looking for a good, solid Jamaican Restaurant. Found it here. The atmosphere has that IRIE feel to it. The staff have a Jamaican accent and the dishes on the menu are definitely Jamaican. I had the coconut salmon, but had the coconut on the side as I'm not a fan of coconut. But that did not take away from the salmon, it was still great. The place has 3 levels. A lower level that looks it would work for private/corporate parties. The middle level appears to be the main restaurant and a loft like level for couples and those trying to impress a date. The lighting is muted and relaxing. Great place for dinner.

The spiciest meal I’ve ever had – and I loved every bit of it.

By Christine S |

I ate at Negril Village for a good friend’s 30th Birthday dinner. We had a group of 8 people, and at least half of us are Bermudian born and raised and love Caribbean food, especially Jamaican food, myself being one of them. We waited quite some time for our table, but mostly due to the rule that all guests must be there for your party to be seated. Once all accounted for, we were seated right away in the upstairs dining area and actually moved to a second (better) table setting near the bar area shortly after that. The service is fast, but attentive, the drinks are strong, and the food is delicious. The menu isn’t huge, but there’s a Caribbean favorite on there for everyone. I had the Vegetable Patties to start, followed by the Calypso Shrimp and Grits. The patties are the miniature size, 3 to a plate and served with a remoulade (thousand island dressing) sauce. They were a tasty start. The Calypso Shrimp and Grits is extremely spicy, but very good! The grits are prepared island style with coconut milk, instead of southern style with butter and cheese. The shrimp were large (I think I counted 6 of them), tender and charred just enough from the sauté pan. My mouth was on fire once I finished this dish (the coconut milk helps), but I surely could eat it again and again. The birthday boy received a complimentary dessert with a lit candle. This is a great restaurant for groups and parties. Although it is LOUD because so many groups are there and it’s fairly small. I would definitely consider coming again for a special occasion dinner or ladies night.

Watch out for the automatic 20% gratuity for a party of 2 without permission

By fripie01 |

Good food, good service although we were a party of 2 and were charged a gratuity of 20% without my permission. I find that rude and dishonest. For that reason I will never go back.

Hit Or Miss

By ChungF88 |

Negril Village is a restaurant that can't deliver good food consistently . Other than that, it's a very chill spot to go.

Authentic Jamaican Flair

By TruBluSigma |

Negril Village is my go to restaurant when I visit New York! I got introduced to this restaurant by my cousin. The food at Negril is always consistently good. Located in the village, it's just a hop skip and jump away off the "F" train from Uptown. Depending on the night you go, please plan accordingly because it can and will fill up quickly especially the later into the week since they have a nice dance area below. Service here is typically great and the drinks are on point. Again, I've been coming here for years and I have failed to have a bad experience. I highly recommend it to anyone coming into the city looking for great food and also good music.

Not quite the best Jamaican food, but fun atmospere

By LoveToGo37 |

The atmosphere at Negril Village is 4 stars. It really should have $$$-$$$$ for the prices because it is pricey, especially for drinks ($6.00 for juices). The service is good and staff is friendly. Everyone in my group enjoyed their meal. My salmon was slightly overcooked. Several people in my group ordered the seafood creole and it looked very good. They say it can serve 2, but that size is not enough for 2 adults. Each person needs their own serving. They didn’t serve all the dishes at the same time, which is irritating. Be aware that they only accept credit cards with a chip, MC and Visa, Also, they automatically added the tip to our bill for a group of 3, which I thought was a no-no. I would go back, but I’d be sure to take ample cash.

Bartenders

By Tanishia |

I've visited before and my server was Jay. He was a great waiter.. Very attentive and friendly. Tonight my friend and I decided to sit at the bar. We were first greeted my Jorge, he was very inviting and humorous. The night was off to a good start. We were then pleased to meet Sasha. I swear she treated us as if she knew us. All smiles and extremely friendly. The third bartender was Mark. He was so funny and persuasive. He should be running the place, he'll have everyone feeling nice. The staff was so amazing we'll be back in a few weeks. The food was just what I expected so overall we had an amazing time and I'm so happy to have had such a great experience.

Carnival time

By Ambler75 |

We went to Negril the day before Labour day. They told us there was a show downstairs but it was more of a club and very loud. The carnival dancers were good though. We then sat upstairs which was quieter. The food was amazing. We had the sharing starter platter which was delicious. Followed by brown stewed chicken and rice and peas. All in all it was a great atmosphere and great fun listening to the music, dancers etc Highly recommend!

Authentic Food

By Rebekah B |

Man this place is delicious. I had the rice and beans with plantains and thier jamaican punch. The punch was strong and was enough for two people. I really enjoyed the music they had playing as well. Everyone should make it a point to come here.

Decadent food

By ELLABLEUE |

I had my dinner birthday party at Negril. Needless to say, the food was decadent from their jerk shrimp , to their grill red snapper with okra, their crab cake.. Omg the place's atmosphere was great, nicely lit and decorated. However, it was the 6 of us with a huge order the service was slow and their dessert list was very limited. Overall, I had a nice experience.

pleased

By Dawn M |

I went to Negril for the first time & must say I would definitely go back. From the staff to the food I enjoyed myself. The coconut rum punch was on point ad well as my oxtail meal. The collars greens could have used seasoning but overall everything was great..

Great food, lively bar scene, loud

By danielmillstone |

We went with a large group tasted many dishes.. All were excellent though some thought it was spicy even for Jamaican food. Stand out ox-tail, goat, chicken, salad, okra. Dirty rice and peas very good. Broccoli, to-do. Racially integrated restaurants are rarer than I'd like; this one was very friendly. Intense bar scene (downstairs) loud music. If they had draft beer (or even craft beer, I could not find it. Next time I will order fish (none of us had any). For NYC, it was quite cheap. We paid $40 or so including some wine etc. If you want to hear other people, come off hours.

Excellent food and service.

By Akelia J |

We came here for my sisters birthday on a Saturday night. I had no reservations but was able to be seated right away, thank god because there people waiting but we had a group. The drinks were spot on. They weren't iced down and you taste the alcohol. I recommend the Montego Bay ice tea, and the henny rum punch. The food was all around good. Everyone loved their dish. Rum glazed jerk salmon, curry shrimp, Oxtails, and ackee toastones very good. Not only was the food and drinks great but our waiter was excellent. I forgot his name but he was attentive and sweet. You can come here to eat and/or party. The basement is also an eating area with a bar, dj, and dance floor.

Upscale Jamaican Cuisine

By Foodie Sunny ☀️ |

A friend of mine invited me to diner at this spot. The first impression was not good as the hostess at the front was incredibly cold and rude. This is not the best way to get people to be return customers. The ackee and saltfish tostones was VERY GOOD! What a great way to combine the two. The chicken soup was not what I was expecting in a Jamaican restaurant. The soup overall was good but lacked the Jamaican touch I am use to. The chicken and vegetables were cut into neat little squares (LOL)! The music and ambiance was perfect and the service outside of the hostess was good.

Good food, music & strong drinks after more than a decade

By Nadstravels |

I visited with a friend recently after more than a decade. It took a while to get seated because this place is still popular but the blazing dancehall and soca tunes kept us pumped up and in a good mood while we waited. The service was quick once we sat down and we got plenty of encouragement to keep drinking those delicious rum punches. The downstairs lounge wasn't available as they had a recent fire. Still a great time for those seeking good Jamaican food, drinks and vibes in NYC.

Was less then expected

By missparker1208 |

My boyfriend went to the other restaurant a long time ago and always talked about their food and how good it was so we decided one night to make the 2 and a half hour trip from CT to check out this place... The food was good but nothing that wowed me it was just as good as any other Jamaican spot I've eaten at the music was a bit loud but not outrageous the people downstairs were a bit extra but nothing crazy the crazy part was our bill $140+ for two people? For some basic Jamaican food and some drinks thats unnecessary!

Good Caribbean cuisine

By DJonamission |

This is my restaurant of choice whenever i am in NYC and want Jamaican food. They have great food, the location in the east village makes it a great place for dinner before an outing. Food is expensive and gratuity of 16% is automatically added to the bill.

Nice Caribbean Food

By Jaybar5 |

This place has delicious Caribbean food - really enjoyed the vegetable cakes as well as the jerk shrimp. Nice spot for some upscale Caribbean food near Union Square. Pretty tucked away as it is a walk from the trains but a nice gem to come across.

Unfortunately, Disappointing...

By lucianmermaid |

I was asked by a client to recommend a fun restaurant for a group brainstorming session. Due to the size of the group the client wanted something that was "reasonable." That can vary in Manhattan. Remembering a pre-theater dinner I was taken to at Negril about a year ago I suggested it could fit the bill. Soooooo NOT!!!! They put our group at a table on their upper tier, which was near the bar. BIG MISTAKE!!!! It was incredibly loud and we were shouting to hear each other across the table. It's not that the food wasn't edible it was just okay. Two of the people in our party were visiting from Europe. They cleaned their plates but I think that was more about the novelty of having Caribbean food. The rest of us who have all spend significant time in the islands were not impressed. What was REALLY WEIRD were the DRINKS! Three of us were drinking Grey Goose on the rocks and they were watered down!!!!! I actually switched to a martini at the end and was advised they didn't have olives????? I've had Grey Goose martinis in Negril, Jamaica on countless occasions and they had olives. So how could they not be on the bar of a restaurant in Manhattan??? Really???? A HORRIFIC 1st...they brought me a straight vodka martini with a cherry in it???? Never happened anywhere on the planet in my entire life! Unfortunately I think that as the management is used to diners who go for fruity Caribbean themed drinks, this establishment is cutting corners and making substitutions on top shelf spirits. We confirmed the difference when we stopped at another bar to have a final Goose on the rocks; it like night and day. A plate of stewed chicken was just picked over and another jerk salmon was ruled overcooked. Even their pepper sauce was a huge let down was. Not really very hot or flavorful and a miniscule amount. I rarely order dessert, so I was surprised when the bread pudding was so good. The rum in the bread pudding packed more of a punch than the so-called Grey Goose in our drinks. Best part of the meal? The conversations with the wait staff. I had fun talking to them about Jamaica since I've traveled there so many times over the years. On the way out, a staff member advised us that the best time to dine at Negril was on Sunday for brunch. Apparently something is better about the food, and/or chef. Diplomatically the person who was thoughtful enough to share this tip didn't say why, but clearly it was meant to assure us a much better experience. Would I return or recommend the restaurant again? Probably not...and I doubt they care. Between NYU students and tourists, they'll continue to make money. Guess I'll just wait until I can be back on the beach in Negril, Jamaica for authentic local cuisine where the drinks are actually what the labels on the bottles state. If not, I’ll head to Brooklyn. Oh well…

Not impressed

By wells08648 |

We visited Negril Village on 6/17. This was our 2nd visit there. The 1st time we only had drinks and listened to music on their lower level. This time we decided to give the food a try. I had the jerk chicken with rice and peas and my fiancé had some kind of salmon with rice and peas. It was ok, nothing special. I've had better food at a local restaurant in my area. I believe that the food was overpriced based on the quality and they also included a 22% tip on my bill. The service was ok, but it definitely wasn't worth 20%. Not sure if I'll be back, if so, it may be just for the music, a little dancing, and rum punch...maybe an appetizer but I don't think I would make this my official go to spot for dinner while visiting NY.

Great food but...

By Terrea M |

I came here a few times within the last 45 days, the food is great; however they never had any collard greens each time I been here, or the picture of the white wine sangria. They need to take these items off the menu if they are not serving them, it's misleading and and this is a disservice to their fantastic food. Also sometimes, they only take cash. Usually, on the weekend.

below average service

By Sammy S |

I would like to begin by saying that I've been going to this restaurant for years and have ignored bad reviews and comments but not anymore. For the price you pay the service should be better -We were seated before we were told that they were not accepting credit cards. -The waitress Whitnie was so rude. She laughed in my face at what I thought was a purely legitimate question and she was the only one laughing because neither of us at the table thought it was funny.what kind of customer service is that?. -I waited 20 mins for my change. I had to ask for my change. Because it was not a substantial amount of change it was taken for granted that it automatically belonged to the restaurant. -They included the tip in the price for 2 people. I strongly believe that service workers should be given a tip no matter how awful their service is. However for 2 people I think it should have been left up to us to determine how much we wanted to give our rude waitress -The food was room temperature when we received it and when it was brought to Whitnie's attention she rudely informed us that the food is cooked to order. It's a shame that I encountered a lack of service to say the least at this restaurant. I've dined at many restaurants all over the country and NYC. This is the only restaurant I've ever received below average service. I want to be supportive but when you receive service like this its very difficult to be especially when you can receive far better service and food else where without asking for it. I would have been better off going to Mcdonald's for a whopper.

Good Jamaican Food

By LJG77 |

The food is tasty, and some dishes are an interesting twist on the traditional Jamaican version. For instance, the Ackee tostones are delicious as an appetizer. Ackee and saltfish are usually eaten with dumplin, plantain etc. This restaurant serves it on top of tostones with avocado. The jerk wings are delicious as well. The mixed drinks are tasty and does their job! I am getting hungry as I write about it. You need to make reservations, or you will wait a very long time for a table. Especially Thurs-Sun after 7pm.

AMAZING!!!

By R B |

The staff was excellent and attentive. The restaurant atmosphere, food and presentation were absolutely lovely (lower level would be great for a party). A complete divine experience. If you want authentic, delicious food, try this establishment. The jerk salmon was tender and tasty;the greens were seasoned perfectly and the pork skewer appetizer was yummy to say the least. Even the fresh ginger tea was amazing!!! Thanks again for the experience, we will definitely be back.

Good food, but too long to wait for it.

By Any1 |

The food was good, and the staff were pleasant enough, but the length of time we had to wait for our food was totally unacceptable. I had to give up on waiting for desert as it took far too long and a chocolate cake should not take that long to plate and serve. Others seemed to be served quicker than we were, but my niece and I definately waited far too long... and we hadn't asked for anything to be cooked differently - all was from the main menu. Also, ask for the price before you order any specials... the cocktail special was more expensive than any other cocktail on the menu and double the price of most. Oh... and the tip was included in the total even though there were only 2 of us eating. As I said the food was good, but to be honest, I don't think I would return.... life is too short.

Good food, noisy and crowded.

By Martin R |

When there with my wife and five other couples. We were seated immediately and our order was taken within a reasonable time frame. We were part of a large party and it took a bit to get served. The manager kindly asked us to leave and go the lounge (separately priced) so that another party could be seated. I understand the reasoning but still felt it was a bit rude.

Great food, very good service and a nice vibe

By Kikspade |

We came here on our last night in NYC. Staff were friendly throughout our visit. We ordered the codfish fritters for starter which were very well done with a guacamole side. Main was the jerk chicken which was delicious. It came with veg and sweet potato mash (swapped from rice and peas) as well as a pineapple chutney. The portion size was good and sauce was very tasty which a nice level of heat. Cocktails were one of the highlights of this place and they provide a better selection than the other bars we visited. Would definitely return.

I don't know why I never thought about writing a review regarding Negrils... but, today I just had to. The service is ALWAYS outstanding and the food is spactacur. The coconut martini is a must! I truly enjoy hearing the Soca and Reggae music they play and the decor is beautiful. A+

Good Service, Small portions!

It was a great atmosphere I went to brunch with 3 friends, we had unlimited mimosas for $12 per person, if it wasnt for that deal i def wuldve been more diasppointed! The portions of the food were small, we all left hungry! The ackee n saltfish dish they hardly give any saltfish. The waiter was great and very on point. I expected more but it was just average, maybe for dinner its better, but brunch will not see us there again.

Nice to find veggie options!

There were 3 clearly labeled vegetarian options, which was great since Caribbean food is often super meat heavy (though they were out of one). Food was tasty (I got the quinoa bean stew) and the portions were good. Service was good overall and the atmosphere was nice. Prices were a bit high ($16 for veg and more for meat), but not outrageous. A couple minor annoyances-- tip was included on our bill and we were only two people! Also, don't give an American Express bill envelope and then tell me you don't take AmEx.
