Not as nice as I was hoping

By Shanya03 |

I really wanted a steak whilst on hols in NYC. We were staying in a hotel just across from this restaurant so decided to give it a try. We were greeted in a friendly manner & seated straight away as the place wasn't busy. It is posh inside & we weren't dressed up. We had a table near the kitchen & I kept getting a draft. My daughter wasn't particularly hungry so just had fries. I had a steak with fries & mushrooms & my husband had tuna with potatoes. There was bread on the table & glass of water. The waiter was ok not particularly friendly but not rude either. It did take a while for our food to come & I had to say even though my steak was nice I wasn't blown away by it, infact it tasted a bit salty & I'm glad I had peppercorn sauce to go with it. We weren't offered deserts so will never know if I would have had one or not. I probably wouldn't eat here again if I ever visit NYC again.

Birthday Disappointment

By William A |

If you’re looking for terrible service and a steak that’s as rare as when the cow died this is your place! Not only did our server never check how our meal was, but never even got us a refill. My friend was walked in on in the restroom multiple times due to a door that does not lock, and the manager laughed it off because “our rowdy bar guests broke it earlier today”. Management then lied after removing our soft drinks and french fries from our meal by telling us he gave us a 30 percent discount. I was looking for a meal I’d never forget on my 21st birthday in Times Square and that’s the one thing they gave me. Save your money and get a hotdog before considering Nick and Stef’s steakhouse.

Early Business Dinner

By GeneralShamu |

Very quaint restaurant that was not packed so great for a business dinner. Located just by MSG so a perfect spot to go before a game/concert/etc... Easy walk to NYP for the train or various subways around the corner as well.

Last Visit

By richlindtravels |

Last visit here. Have been here a few times over the years when near MSG. Have never been impressed. There is always something that doesn’t work, although the medium rare petite filet mignon has never let me down. I should have sent the Tomato and Mozzarella salad back. Granted, good tomatoes are not plentiful in December, but to be served a plate with 2 white-centered slices of tomato was like a slap in the face. Next, the steak dinners were served while still eating our salads. The steak special was more waste than meat.

Took a chance and was rewarded

By wayne j |

A Friday night dinner after work with fellow employees. Lobster Bisque was OK, but the bacon appetizer was something special. The steaks were done to perfection. The creamed spinach side was extraordinary, with just the right, ( for me ), savory flavoring. A very enjoyable and relaxing time.

Expensive

By lotusdesigns |

We ere looking for a nice steak before we finished our holiday. We were seated at a nice table , we are a family of four , two young boys. We unfortunately should have. Checked the menu before we sat down. We had been to numerous restaurants in Manhattan on a two week holiday around this area. There was no kids menu , so they don't cater for kids. When we looked at the prices we nearly fell off our chairs. The prices are ridiculous, we had just came from. LA and had a meal at the famous Polo Lounge for a special occasion and it was not as expensive as this. I will make no comment on the food as we got up and left, so the food could be good. It is located near Madison Square Gardens ,so it's not near any great views. The poor rating was only because of the price, the restaurant setting inside and staff were all very nice and polite.

Great MSG Location $$$

By PaulieWalnuts12 |

Literally on the ground floor of the garden, with its own door directly into the garden after your meal. Pricey but worth it, enjoy!

Just ok!

By Paige |

I’ve visited Nick and Stef‘s steakhouse before a Billy Joel concert with my family . We were seven people . I have had the pleasure to visit many steak houses in Manhattan I would have to say this one was just OK the food did not move me although it was fine for the price I think it could’ve been better . The acoustics are quite loud . I also have to say though there are not that many great restaurants in this area of Manhattan so Nick and Stepf’s sometimes the only choice .

Location great for pre-MSG meal; otherwise "okay" experience

By twasbrillig |

No real complaints, overall experience was good. Was not a first rate "steakhouse experience" but food was good enough (so would not rate as a high value), as well as service and ambiance. There is a private entrance to the Garden, which might come in handy to beat the crowds. We had the filet mignon, rack of lamb, truffle fries and mashed potatoes. All were good, but were not memorable compared against other steakhouses. Truffle fries were actually good! Would not come back based on food alone, but would come back for exactly the same circumstance that brought us here: steak, pre-Madison Square Garden event, private entrance that possibly cuts wait time (especially in the cold). It could have been a lot worse, so we are happy that all was good.

Amazing!!!

By emma28912 |

Oh my days literally prob the best steak j have had in my whole entire life! We had a lovely waitress too. Expensive but worth it.

Great Lunch!

By TeamMan |

My first visit to N & S and it did not disappoint. Service, Food and Atmosphere --- All Exceptional. I will be back. I had the Chopped Chicken Entree Salad and it was crunchy and delicious (see photo). The bread basket had all kinds of gourmet crackers and interesting rolls. Our server was friendly and helpful but not intrusive.

So disappointing this time....

By Keith G |

we always pop into this restaurant when in New York. But this time the usual excellent meal was just average. Nice steak, no veg served, peach cobbler used tinned peaches. Usual fabulous service was very off hand this time. For the first time we felt over charged!

Steak was disappointing.

By Debbie A |

Steak was disappointing. Tomahawk was not a real tomahawk but two ribeyes put together and meat was tough. Sides were good. Decent wine list. Door into MSG merged with public line and took 25 minutes to get through. Much better than outside like but we would have left restaurant sooner if we’d understood how the “secret door” worked. Overall it was just ok.

Great place to eat before an event @ MSG

By Wendy W |

This restaurant was recommended to us as a great place to eat before a Knicks game. It didn't disappoint! Service was excellent and the food was very good. i had the chicken and my husband had the short ribs, both excellent. The steaks that were ordered at adjacent tables looked great and were huge. The sides were of a decent size and easily served two people. We let them know we were going to the game when we came in, so our server made sure our food came out quickly. There is even a side door in the restaurant that you can leave by that takes you right into Madison Square Garden.

9 dollers for small beer!!

By herknibbs |

Food ok but really very expensive, porterhouse steak for two didn't have much flavour, had to pay for everything chips, mushroom, asparagus, etc individually, and size of plate was really small, approx 8" at the most.

Lovely place and food

By sunsandsand0703 |

Great location for dinner prior to a Nicks game or event in Madison Square Garden. Excellent food. Staff were very attentive. A couple at the table right next to us watched a 30 minute video at the loudest volume without staff addressing it. It was a sad distraction for the 20 or so diners around us. With an expensive meal experience like this, it would have been appropriate for the manager or staff to request the two gentlemen to turn down the volume at the least. In spite of that, this was one of our favorite meals in NYC and we have something to laugh about the rudeness of others!

Diner before Michael Bublé

By Philip S |

Came here for dinner before the Michael Bublé concert. We were late because of train delays in nasty weather. Although we arrived half an hour late we were seated in minutes despite the busyness of the restaurant. Service was excellent. Everyone enjoyed their meal. We had the petite fillet, the bone in ribeye, the Char special and the short rib mushroom risotto. All delicious. Of course the topper is desert and I strongly recommend the little donuts. To top off the evening the manager took us through the back secret door to enter Madison Square Garden for our concert. This is our second time and we will be back again a wonderful place particularly if you’re going to see the concert in Madison Square Garden that evening.

Obnoxiously loud with overpriced mediocre food

By DiBattista |

After reading reviews, we were looking forward to splurge for a great dinner. We left after an app and drinks. The beer menu was lousy. The tuna tartare was ok but they only gave us 2 slices of toast when you really need 4. The bread basket looked good but was cold and hard with crumbs in the butter. The waitresses were helping each other out, but really it didn’t work out- they said we did not order an appetizer but we really did, which was odd, instead of just saying let me double check- she argued with us and told us that we did not order an appetizer. Weird from the minute we walked in to an overly loud bar crowd, to rude waitresses, so no thanks! We will spurge some place else! Do not recommend Nick and Stefs.

Over Rated

By Maggie3556 |

Very over rated. Over Priced. Had better for less. Service wasn't good either. Had the petite filet 39 add Mac and cheese 12 add potato 9, so now we're at 60 bucks not to mention soft drink 8. So for me it was a loose loose here. Go down the street for a better meal.

Great steak tough pricey

By jsjtrip |

Very nice place at Madison sq Garden. Service ok. Place nice. And awesome steak. Tough a bit over priced. Anyway worth it!!

Superb Christmas Day Meal

By adm0rgan |

My partner and I ate here on Christmas Day and we couldn't be happier with the food and the service that we received. We chose this restaurant and booked a table weeks in advance because we were happy with the A-la-carte menu that was offered - this is something that not many restaurants offer on Christmas Day. We had the Crispy Calamari to share as a starter and it was certainly more than big enough to share between two, maybe even three people! My partner had a New York Steak and I had a Filet Mignon, both Medium Rare with a side of fries each. Both steaks were divine and cooked well to taste. All members of staff were very attentive and our empty plates were cleaned without fuss. The waiter was very friendly and was happy to answer questions and he also offered his insight into the best dishes on the menu. He then left us to ponder before coming back to take our orders - something that impressed the both of us because there's nothing worse than being put on the spot with a hovering waiter! We were really happy with our meal here, although it was a tad pricey. However for Christmas Day - this meal was a perfect treat.

Pricey for quality

By Ann B |

We had a fine meal here, but I agree with other reviewers that this restaurant is probably popular because of its location and not much else. The steaks were cooked well and the service was decent, but it felt very much like a franchise restaurant without much character. Its likely a good spot for people going to MSG, but I wouldn't make a special trip there. Its also a bit expensive even for a steakhouse.

After the game

By Yuval W |

We enteed after Basketball game at Medison Squre Garden. Strangly the place was nearly empty. The service was great, the food too. Exspesive place

Very disappointed

By markalanh |

Very disappointed on Thursday evening. We brought head of a major Chinese firm to Nick and Stef's at Penn. Lobster Bisque was awful and cool. Their bluepoint oysters were tiny. One ordered the lamb chops medium rare came out well. He decided not to send it back .The porterhouse for two was overly tough..Just a bad night for us there and really did not want to write this but embarrassing dinner for guests. Oh the petite filet was perfect

🏀Dining for the Stars 🏀

By Natasha T |

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 🎩My first time eating at this restaurant and I loved every moment of the experience with my boyfriend. It’s a seating for the long time standing table for the Gallo family right before the Knick game and I felt absolutely honored to be sitting at that table right aside my Gallo man. 🎩The hostess greeted us kindly and walked us over immediately. High end white table cloth service. Our server was above & beyond professional and attentive. Every bite PERFECT.. His word “DYNAMITE”.. Aside from going to see the stars of NBA Nick & Stef’s made us feel just that way.. What high integrity throughout staff.. We thank you for a beautiful start to our first NBA DATE NIGHT!!! 🏀A.K.A. Slam Dunk 🏀

Great location for MSG/Billy Joel

By matt d |

Food was delicious! Staff was super nice and accommodating. Get the mac and cheese as a side...we had filet and it hit the mark.

Good, but not cheap.

By Jon A |

A wet evening, and proximity to our hotel found us at Nick and Stefs on a Saturday evening when the place was less than full. Typical NY steak house with tables close together. Good, well cooked and served steak.

Good lobster

By Cantfind |

Thanks to Norman at Nick & Stef's for a great dining experience. The food is excellent and the service top shelf

Wanting to tell the chef how to season your steak is not a good sign

By Cdaae |

This was a spur of the moment decision. I had planned to eat at legendary steakhouse Keens but NYC is a walking city and after I picked up my concert tickets, could not face walking any further, so I decided to give this place a shot… I checked inside… But they did not have any seats for a solo person… I could sit at the bar… But when I travel and dine solo… I'm not looking for company and don't really want to chat… I'm looking for peace and quiet… So I sat outside. Although once again, the hostess commented just one? Seriously, I'm starting to remove a star every time hostess asks that question. Do you see another person standing behind me? No, I am traveling and dining solo… Service was pretty good. My water glass stood empty towards the end of the meal… I was a little concerned that I was going to have to track down the waitress for my check… So I wouldn't call it stellar.... The prices were in line with Manhattan prices… On the expensive side… But I expect that. The food… The wedge salad was good… The creamed spinach was good. It is hard to screw up a steak… I ordered the small filet… Which is a cut of meat I like because there's not much fat on it… sadly, there were still a lot of fat on this cut of meat… there was also not much flavor… I would suggest using some salted butter as well some additional salt, pepper and garlic powder in the cooking process. I think it's a good choice if you are at Madison Square Garden and need a steak dinner… I don't think I'll return…

Not worth it

By Shannon P |

We came here because there were so many good reviews, however they must be written by people who don't eat at nice restaurants often. Got the bacon appetizer, it was OK but 75% of it was a lump of fat. Then we shared the porter house for 2. It had no flavor whatsoever. My husband who never leaves a piece of steak behind wouldn't even eat the last few pieces we had. Truffle fries were edible. Service was mediocre, had to keep asking for water. If you're used to nice steak restaurants steer clear of this place.

Steakhouse favorites prepared right

By KD on the Run |

Was able to get a reservation for restaurant week. They had a $42 price fix menu with your choice of red snapper, free range chicken or filet mignon. Six of us dined and someone in the party had selected all of them. Presentation was best on the snapper. The filet appeared dry but it was actually tender. No complaints from us. We had plenty to eat and not one of us had room for dessert. It was included so we wrapped it to go. Our waiter was super and we could've talked to her all night.

Madison Square Garden

By anahissnauer |

This place has great food and wine. There is no better place to grab dinner if you have a concert or anything else at the Madison Square Garden. The steak was very tasty and cooked to perfection. We will be coming back this Friday before Kate Perry's concert!

Average steak house but good before a game

By Summersnuggles |

Been here many times. The steaks are ok and the sides are average. The best part is that you can go right into the garden without going outside. The place gets jammed and reservations are needed before an event. If your not in a hurry or going to a game there are many steak houses that are much better.

Penn Station MSG gem

By John M |

An excellent location with superb staff and menu. Very attentive server, good wine list, and excellent steaks. Top Shelf food at top-shelf prices as well $$$$.

Overcooked, Underseasoned, Overpriced

By homer227 |

Recently went to Nick & Stef's before a Ranger game. The best thing it has going for it is convenience. The raw bar was OK, too. However, no one in my party liked their steak, and they were all overcooked. All substantially underseasoned or not seasoned at all. Medium rare ordered, medium well received. We didn't have time to re-fire every steak at the table, or the desire, so we all ate about 1/2 of our food and paid the exorbitant bill. There is a lot of good steak in NYC, I'd skip this place in the future.

Fine dining by Madison Square Garden

By Mary Jo M |

We made a reservation here because of the location to Madison Square Garden. We were looking for fine dining for dinner and Nick & Stef's delivers. White tablecloths, comfortable and stylish chairs, attractive decor, and attentive wait staff all makes for the right setting. Just be prepared to pay - they were out of the hanger steak that I planned on ordering which was a bit less than many of the other steaks. My daughter and I had a wedge salad, Caesar salad, petite filets and ordered the sides of asparagus and Parmesan encrusted fries (shared the sides since there was plenty and it is a la carte) - hard to go wrong with the basics. Enjoyed dinner - everything except the price.

One Of My Favorites!

By Yaz S |

Great bartenders, staff, and servers! Professional and polite. Fantastic steaks and appetizers! Great solid service if you are at the bar or sitting at a table. Upscale, elegant, and relaxing. A Must!

Great food and excellent service.

By poshcatlady |

We ate here with some friends while in NYC and we had a lovely meal and the staff were excellent. We were all very happy with our food and would definitely eat there again.

Worst meal I've had in a long time!

By Regina O |

We went to Nick & Stef's before attending a concert at Madison Square Garden. The one star is because they held our table even though we were an hour late due to traffic. Now for the bad part: A $16 martini was so watered down it was ridiculous. I ordered a petite filet mignon medium rare which cost $40 or more. This small thin piece of meat came which was well done. I sent it back & then received a second piece, again small & thin, which was raw on the inside. I ordered fried onions on the side, I was given those fried onions that come in the can. Seriously. My friend ordered shrimp stuffed with crabmeat for $45. There were 5 shrimp on the plate & when I tasted it it was very fishy, which could only mean the crabmeat wasn't fresh. I've had a lot better steaks at Outback. How can they justify these prices for such lousy food??? My advice...go to Wolfgang's.

Great place to go before or after an event at MSG

By Alex S |

Great place to go before or after an event at MSG. Great for business lunch/dinners and celebrations with coworkers. I have been many times and just realized that never left a review before. Service is exceptional. Everyone is always nice. Food is delicious. The menu doesn’t change too much, which makes it easy to make a selection. I would strongly recommend branzino and short rib.

Delicious steaks with Attentive Service

By carljw116 |

We had tickets to see Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden and looked for a nice place nearby to celebrate our 30th anniversary. Friends that live in the city recommended Nick & Stef's. It was delicious. My wife and I both had filet mignon. They were perfectly cooked and the peppercorn sauce was delicious. Our waiter was very attentive. Prices for the food were typical for a steakhouse in the city. Prices for drinks were high.

amazing experience

By SaraSaraL1 |

Wonderful atmosphere. Bar service was fantastic, amazing cocktails and great, friendly, personable, bartenders. Extensive menu always delicious. Super fun vibe. Can’t wait to go back.

Great drinks and Dinner before concert

By daverate |

My wife and I stopped for drinks and dinner at Nick & Stef's Steakhouse prior to a concert at Madison Square Gardens. Both the dinner and the service was fantastic. We had a few drinks at the bar prior to dinner, and once we were seated, they spent a lot of time with us even though the place was filled. The maitre de Sal was great, and Alyssa was very attentive. We both had different types of steaks and they were done to perfection, very tasty and prperly cooked. The sides were very good also. The place is not cheap and could be considered slightly high-priced, but we enjoyed the dining experience and will return.

Excellent food and service

By R S |

Service and food were excellent! Went before a concert on a Sunday..they usually aren’t open sundays but for Madison square garden events they are..they even had an employee walk us over to the vip section to msg! So awesome!

Amazing anniversary meal at Nick and Stef's!

By Winnallreed |

We chose to visit this restaurant on our trip to New York from England as our names are 'Nick and 'Stef' and it was our 3rd wedding anniversary so it seemed rude not to! From the moment we arrived, we received excellent service, and recommendations about the food, and we were told to stay as long as we wanted, no rush whatsoever. The food was lovely - we tried the Nick burger and the chop chop chicken salad which were both great. The New York cheesecake was also very tasty. Thanks Nick and Stef's, from Nick and Stef - hope to see you again soon!

Before the concert

By BigMS |

Excellent experience before attending a concert at MSG. Our server was Abby (148) and she was terrific, patient, and provided attentive service of our terrific meal. Each steak was prepared just as requested and her recommendations were on point.

Great Place

By GarySolihull |

Went in late one afternoon just before a big Ice Hockey game was about to start un be known to us this place has a private entrance into the VIP Nicks Stadiums, the staff and the food were great id go again in a heart beat.

Perfect place under The Garden

By Donna G |

Visited for a cocktail and dinner before the Billy Joel concert. Great service, excellent steak and rack of lamb, delicious bluepoint and black pearl oysters ! A direct door to stairs leading up to Madison Square Garden!!

Fantastic Steak

By Alex B |

We visited Nick and Stefs for lunch last Tuesday, whilst on holiday in New York from London. My girlfriend had eaten here before and was very keen on us visiting, I can honestly say that I ate one of the best steaks i've had in my life here. Phenominal, albeit massive! We will definately be coming back whenever we get the chance to visit again. 10/10.

Great meal, location and service

By Jiggy Canfield |

Took a customer and a co-worker for celebration. Gret location by MSG. Sat at the bar. Service was excellent. Fries were excellent. Did crab cakes, oysters and burrata for apps. All 3 steaks (2 Filet Mignon) were excellent. Everybody enjoyed their desserts. A little pricey but well worth it.

Ladies Who Lunch

By Rebecca L |

My lady friends & I enjoyed a delectable 2 course steak luncheon during Restaurant Week of January 2024. The chef, Daniel, immediately recognized me as I first entered this steakhouse and warmly greeted me. We were treated to a complimentary, deliciously warmed artisanal bread loaf, with accompanying Sicilian olive oil & French butter sides to enhance its exquisite flavor. The coffee I ordered was wonderful. Our waitress took exceptional care of our every request throughout our luxuriously lengthy meal. We ladies chatted away for several hours, and were never rushed or hurried out. I can't begin to describe what a wonderful time, and delectable dining experience, we all had. I highly recommend this restaurant, and cannot thank chef Daniel & his staff for providing us with such personal attentive service. We ladies hope to return soon for another wonderful meal. ❤️🍷🥩🥔😋

Convenient to Madison Square Garden

By Pbird travels |

It was a great night to see the NY Knicks play at MSG the day after Thanksgiving. The place to go prior would be to Nick & Stef's Steakhouse. You can enjoy a meal and not worry about being late because you can head through the backdoor into the garden. Its considered fine dining, but you can order a hamburger and fries. Rather pricey but worth the convenience. For the health conscious foodies, there are a few choices. The service is excellent, they aim to please. The decor is average and could use a makeover. They have carpet in the dining area, if you have allergies. Overall its convenient and serves it purpose.

Great Steak

By JoeBoxter |

We had an early dinner at the restaurant before heading to JFK for a flight. The décor is NY Steakhouse with a lot of tables close together and white tablecloths. The bar was lively. Our server, Deanna, was very good as she was prompt, friendly and efficient. I had the 8 oz filet and French onion soup. The filet was delicious - among the best I have tasted and it was prepared perfectly. The onion soup was at best OK. It was hard to find the onions among the broth and bread in the soup. I would not have it again.

next door to Penn station

By Kaulostar |

Great food in a very convenient location right by Penn station. Enjoyed the food there and service was very good too

Steak Time

By Jane P |

Had a beautiful steak here but was limited for time as the table was booked for another person. Would of liked to have tried one of the deserts.

Date night

By Shadow11111 |

Went to the city for the weekend. Enjoyed our meal, portions were larger than expected considering it’s the city. The restaurant is very “busy” and loud. Dress savers on business casual, we were over dressed. We enjoyed it but not sure what all the hype is about.

Great pre-event dining experience

By MARC S |

We visited prior to the Jimmy V Tournament. I largely expected overpriced restaurant at Madison Square Garden, but would recommend to anyone visiting the area. Service was excellent. Food was some of the best I have had. We started with a Caeser salad, standard fare. I had the Branzino which came with green beans (or haricot verts). I expected the whole fish which I would have to have to dissect. However it was filleted and was perfectly cooked with wonderful flavor. My wife had the petite Filet also perfectly cooked. In addition, we had the truffle fries which was a generous portion, crispy and flavorful. To add to the already wonderful meal, there is a nice back door to Garden so you do t have to walk outside. Nothing in particular was special on the gluten free front, but food was superb. Overall convenient location and well with making a reservation.

Great service and tasty food

By John R |

While waiting for transportation out of the city, a large group of us descended upon them with a limited amount of time before we had to go. Drink orders were back by the time we decided on entrées, and the food came quickly. They were very accommodating and polite, and we left full and content in time to board. Many thanks.

Loud, noisy, bustling but great food

By WeBvacations |

We had dinner here before an event at Madison square garden. Couldn't beat the location as it's co-located at the garden. We weren't prepared for the noisy environment. It was very high energy. That didn't bother me as much as the closeness of the tables next to us. Made the conversation somewhat stilted. The food was very very good. The service was very good considering how many tables our server was handling and the pace she had to maintain. Don't know what it's like on a non-event night. I would give it a try.

Meh...

By clpv135 |

I read the steak could be iffy...so I ordered the branzino. It was good...although they gave you a lot of green beans and I would have preferred spinach and a little something else. The atmosphere was decent in that it was not too noisy...this was a Thursday nite around 8:00 pm. I did taste the steak of one of the others (it was a huge ribeye) and it was decent. I might return...just depending if I am in the area and hungry.

Great restaurant before a game!

By Angela126M |

We recently visited Nick & Stef's before a basketball game at Madison Square Garden. The staff was excellent and accommodating even though we had different people arriving at different times and some dietary restrictions. The food was very good and the service team worked hard to keep everything moving at a good pace. Would definitely recommend and go back!

Terrific Group Dining Experience!

By Jeff K |

I was hosting a dinner for 18 people and needed a restaurant that offered a classic menu which enabled guests to choose from a menu consisting of steak, seafood, and vegetarian options. The food and ambience needed to be able to accommodate everyone comfortably, with the ability to have conversations without competing over music. Nick & Stef's provides an incredible ambience, a professional staff and amazing food. With the need to accommodate such a large and diverse group of people, the restaurant scored 100% on all accounts. I can't wait to bring my wife the next time we are in Manhattan!

nice food, nice service

By nika_8304 |

This place is a good surprise at Penn station! Food and service was all great. Good ambience and calamari was simply amazing! All worthy and certainly coming back! Keep ya good work.

A very nice lunch

By intrepid2458 |

Dropped by today and we both had the specials menu sitting at the bar. The French onion soup was good as was the fillet minion and really enjoyed the coconut sorbet which was recommended by the bar man who was very attentive throughout. Price of wine though for us Europeans is horrendous but that is a general complaint we have whilst in the US. Overall we really enjoyed our experience.

Pricy, but excellent service!

By KK78 |

Dined here before a Knicks game at MSG. The service in the dining room was excellent! Our server was always there when we needed him, but not overbearing. Starting with a cocktail, a dirty martini with blue cheese stuffed olives. We shared the deviled eggs and burrata for appetizers - both were excellent. For our entrees we split the crab cakes (different, but good) and the filet (not cooked to the temp we ordered, but still good). The creme brulee to finish was amazing! The bill was pricey, but as expected for a steakhouse of this level.

Disappointed

By Judith484 |

Stopped here for dinner. I wouldn’t call it a steak house at all. Place is casual, lots of people walking around. Need to be more attentive to guests. Order salad dressing on the side and I didn’t get that. Bread basket looks good but doesn’t talare good. Butternut squash soup was awful. And I’m a big fan of butternut soup but this taste like a chemical. Could be a great place. Bathroom dirty and I asked at front desk for a taxi and the girl said I can’t do that! What?? This is New York.

They Tried Very Hard

By pugmom61 |

We went here last night before the Ranger game. We are 2 people and the hostess tried to seat us in a space that I could not even fit through. I would have literally been eating with the people on either side of me. I declined the seating and requested a different table. The only table available was in the bar at a high top - not my favorite but I took it. The manager came over and apologized and offered to buy me a drink. He was very understanding. We each ordered an appetizer - my partner had the seafood soup and I had the tuna tartar. The tuna was nice a spicy and made with fresh tuna. The seafood soup was nothing spectacular. We split the kale salad (very good) and my partner had the braised short rib and I ordered the 8 oz. filet cooked medium rare. My filet came out cooked medium well and I asked for it to be returned. Again the manager Sal came over and apologized and ordered me a new one and took my entrée off the bill. My new filet was cooked to perfection and seemed a lot bigger than the 8 oz one I ordered. I had the brussel sprouts on the side - also very good. My partner said his short rib was excellent - tender and tasty. I would definitely go back here. When making the reservation I would request certain seating.

Wedding reception

Our friends also called Nick &Steph had got married and we went here for the meal it was fantastic the staff were very friendly also helped arrange a few surprises the meal was great and would definitely eat there again

great location but that's it

By Robert K |

Being adjacent to Madison Square Garden is a great asset but the food should be equal to it. Sadly it is not ! The overcrowded bar makes the place very noisy to the point of discomfort. The waitress we had saved the evening from being a true disaster. The chef served steaks, which were ok but not for 28 day aged prices nakes on a too large a plate. The vegetables were bland and tasteless, the salad plain and the dressing tasted bottled. We were very disappointed in the so-so seafood tower with over salted dips. The only saving grace is direct entrance into the Madison Square Grden. Eat home and skip dinner in this food shallenged area

It's not bad but not great either

By NoN1-123 |

We stop by to have dinner before the game. The service was good and quick but the food are good but not great. The calamari we ordered need to be cook more, and no flavor. The steaks were good.

Best Steak in NYC

By Colin W |

This is one of our favourite restaurants in NYC; we visited in 2009 & 2014. It's great to book a table to save queuing or disappointments & you can access Madison Sq Garden through their private entrance. The food is amazing!

Great food n Service near MSG

Took my Mother, Niece visiting from Florida. We had a wonderful time. Steaks were cooked to perfection. Our hostess Sal was so considerate. Our Waiter was attending n informative. Great service. John F. I know i will be back soon

Our go to restaurant before the game.

By landairsea |

When you have tickets to Madison Square Garden you have to eat at Nick & Stephs first. Great restaurant with fantastic service and a cool vibe. Our waiter was Raul and he was on point suggesting mixed drinks and entrees. We ordered Passion fruit cosmo's with dinner and espresso martinis for dessert. The lobster bisque was very good with a touch of a spicy kick. Main course of surf & turf and crabmeat stuffed shrimp were both delicious, but the side dish of lobster mac&cheese was amazing. We were fighting over the last bite. For dessert we ordered their famous blackout cake and apple pie. Both were very good aswell. Trust me you cant go wrong eating here.

Worst steak in a long time.

By Jeffc1948 |

The dry aged New York steak I ordered medium rare was definitely medium well with not a trace of juice. The spinach accompanying it was very nice. At the top end of NY steak house prices you'd think they could turn out a good NY strip!

Great Location For A Pre-MSG Event Meal!

By Alvin C |

We went for dinner before attending a concert at Madison Square Garden. I had the baked clams and the "Herb Marinated Flat Iron Steak". The service was very good, the clams I would not bother with again but the steak was alright. Prices were a bit on the high side, but it is a great location if you will be going to an event at the Garden before or after.

Surprise Dinner & Hockey Game

By winniejames |

My husband and I were given tickets to a Ranger game and decided to to into the city early to have dinner before the game. As we walked out of Penn Station, we saw the restaurant, walked past and then said let's go back and try it. When we walked into the restaurant we were asked ''do you have a reservation?" Well, no we didn't! We were offered the bar or a table within the bar area. We took the table in the bar area and while it was busy, who cared, it was about the two of us enjoying each other. The food was delicious - Tuna Steak and Hanger Steak - cooked to perfection. Although the waiter was extremely busy, he was pleasant and attentive. We will be back in the city for another hockey game and GUESS where we are going and brining our son and his finance! CANT WAIT!

Great late night supper special

This restaurant is adjacent to Madison sports Garden. They get an early show / game crowd so they have a $59 three course diner starting at 8PM We loved this place with fast and friendly service Lobster bisque , crab cake, hanger steak, beef rib Meat was outstanding We ordered a side of asparagus delicious Recommend apple cobbler desert for desert They had a nice Sangiovese wine on menu Nice quiet atmosphere at the time we went

Excellent food and service, if you are looking for good food and can bear some noise then its cool place. Its near Pen Station and in a very busy area. Strongly recommend to make reservations.

Great ambiance, excellent food

By Ariadne W |

Easter dinner with friends. Calamari starter. Salmon entree. Asparagus and macaroni sides. Sides were enough for 3 to share. Delicious, high quality food. Excellent service. Location is perfect since I take Amtrak frequently. Restaurant is right on 32nd off 8th. My new staple on the restaurant list.

I feel dirty leaving this establishment

By Benjamin K |

I went to this "used car lot" last night prior to a concert at MSG. From the moment we sat at our table, the waiter attempted to push pretty much everything on the menu that would increase our bill. Case in point; we ordered draft beers. The options were 12 and 24 oz. The waiter did not ask us what we would like, and just brought the larger ones. After confronting about it, he admitted his wrongdoings. The waiter tried to push so much unnecessary food and drinks, I felt I was fighting off a car salesman. Pretty much the worst dining experience one can have. If you go.....which I wouldn't, however, check your wallet before leaving. The amazing thing, can't believe he would think we were so naive as not to catch on.... poor job my man.

a waste of $200

By dirkh979 |

Terrible from start to finish. Our server never once asked if we needed anything, Never. Steaks were undercooked. Drinks were empty more than they were full. Service was terrible. I spoke to the manager and expressed my utter frustration with our experience. His response? He took off 3 sides and our cokes. And when I told him how disappointed we were with that, and that we'd be posting a negative review, his comment was "I'd rather you not do that. Here's my card. Reach out to me and I'll look into giving you a free appetizer or something like that next time you come in." ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW!?!? Never. Never would I dine there again and never would I recommend anyone else does either.

Great place before an event at MSG

By djh5723 |

Went before a Knicks game. great location next to MSG. Can even enter right through the restaurant. Food good, drinks awesome. Good start to a great night.

Very nice restaurant

By Jerseyguy445 |

Ok, as I usually do when I review something, I get a little lengthy but I like to know where I am going and what to expect so why not do the same when reviewing. Nick and Stefs is a nice restaurant, business casual, I saw sports coats and ties and then I saw Baseball hats ???? Interesting. It is NOT a sports bar and the hats and tee shirts should be left out but hey what do I know ? The establishment is a little dated. The service and food NOT ! Will was our waiter and did not steer us wrong on anything. We started and (YOU MUST) order the hickory-maple bacon as an app. MY GOD ! I ordered the Tomato/Mozz salad and probably should have passed. Being from Jersey and spoiled, you are not getting a Jersey Tomato in JANUARY! Bland but edible. Main course: Wife- surf and turf. Again being from the Jersey shore and spoiled she was hesitant, but NOT DISAPPOINTED ! The filet was like butter and the lobster delightful. I went with the 18oz bone in strip. OH MY ! Wonderful choice, as I am a steak connoisseur, this was cooked perfectly and seasoned better. We split the mashed and they were mashed, can't screw up mashed. Will recommended the cinnamon sugar donuts as a dessert.........Bam ! another home run. Light and delicious! Overall a 8.5/10 for the meal! Drawbacks: Tends to be over-crowded and bit loud, we were seated as a deuce but next to another almost sharing the table and right next to another 4 seated the same. If you are looking for quiet and quaint move on. Back to Will, Highly recommend requesting him as a server. Not pushy, tentative, with a great personality. Total bill with tip and drinks around $250.00, but depends on if you want apps and dessert and drinks.......... Narrowed down the choices for this date to Nick and Stefs and Butcher and Banker, went with N/S and was not disappointed. Give it a try and you'll see why !

Eat a steak, skip the hotdog

By Nick |

We been coming here for years before a Ranger game. Usually you will see men in suits and lots of hockey jerseys. It's a nice place, friendly waiters who have excellent knowledge of the food their preparing. I like how they suggest a sauce to go with a certain food to enjoy it better. Just not a fan of the 2 person tables that are sooo close together. You gotta suck in your gut to squeeze between the two tables to enter the booth side. Then theirs the secret entrance to enter MSG. Go past the bar, near the bathrooms their is a door you can enter thru. They do security check and scan your ticket. Better then going alllll way around outside. Even people who don't eat there do it. So we eat here rather then getting a over priced chicken finger at the game.

A Wonderful Dinner before attending the Big East at The MSG

By thwetzel |

We had a LOVELY dinner at Nick's and Stef's prior to attending the Big East Final Four Tourney at Madison Square Garden. The restaurant was easy to make reservations on Open Table. It is conveniently located adjacent to MSG. Our waiter was most cordial and our dinner was delicious. We enjoyed a half of dozen relish oysters and tuna tartare for our apps. Our entrees were 12 oz filet mignon and tuna steak both of which were delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting mid town and especially anyone attending an event at MSG. We can't wait to go back.

Great steak near Penn station.

By Scallywags55 |

So pleased to find this great restaurant in an area sadly lacking in good choices. Very pleasant service, great steak and yummy creamed spinach. Most of this area is fast food or cafes, so Nick and Stefs was a welcome relief. Chatty efficient waitress, fab food and a peaceful haven. Recommended.

Poor service! Nice steak tho.

By Tam7480 |

We really enjoyed the food at this restaurant, the steak was lovely but we were very let down by the waitress who served us, she was very unwelcoming & rude. The poor customer service we received has let the restaurant down due to this experience & we will not be returning.

Not what It Used To Be!

By Elisa H |

My husband and I had dinner here for restaurant week and we were incredibly disappointed. We've been to this restaurant many times over the years and figured it was a sure thing. But, during restaurant week, I guess because it is a fixed menu, it is not worth your time or money. We started off with appetizers of a plate of wrinkled up arugula, tomato and a big huge chunk of mozzerella cheese that was mushy. Then, our filet mignon was very nice but the veggies with it were unrecognizable and quite frankly not enough. Then I chose a strawberry crepe that was nicely presented but was cold. I thought coffee was included in the meal and it was not but it didn't matter anyway because it didn't taste fresh anyway and we left it. On top of this, we had a very nice waitress but too pushy with items that were clearly not part of restaurant week pricing. Quite annoying. Wont return.

Bad customer service!

By Andreana P |

The waiter wrote down on our receipt the tip he expected us to give him. Tips have to be deserved and the way he treated us was absolutely rude. Because we didn’t leave any tip he didn’t even say goodbye. Besides we asked for a well done steak instead it came row, we had to ask for a better one and after a minute he came back with the same steak all burnt. Disgusting service and definitely not recommending!

Great Restaurant

By 252jan253 |

We wanted a steak place in NYC and this was right down the street from our hotel. We went before the Billy Joel concert but didn’t have reservations. Luckily we went early enough and got in. Service was great and the food was great! Our steaks were cooked perfectly, sides were great. It is more expensive than what I’m used to paying, but it’s NYC. I would definitely go back when in NYC.

Pricey, good food and drink plus private entrance into MSG!

By Christopher C |

Interesting range of reviews here. Mine is in between. Had our second visit here, and first in many years, prior to the ELO concert at The Garden. Had planned to go to one of my favorite pubs in the area but our schedule did not allow. We came out of the train with limited time so we stopped here and were seated outside right away. Yes, it’s pricey, and although the food is good I give my three rating based on the price. At 25% less it would be a four.I found the service to be good - I didn’t see the “pushiness” that another reviewer reported. Hanger Steak was delicious. I got the red wine sauce with it that was outstanding, and my wife enjoyed the crab cakes. Would be good if they had more options for non steak eaters. $14 for a really good 23 oz craft ale was not outrageous. It’s nice that they have their own entrance into MSG from the restaurant and that was a terrific plus! This was a Very convenient location, a good meal and worked perfectly with our schedule so we were in our seats on time!

Can't beat the location to Madison Square Garden

By Shootles |

It's in the same building/block as the Garden. Dropped in at the bar to grab a couple appetizers. We had the crab cake and seafood chowder and drinks. Very pricey restaurant but aren't all steak houses! I would return if I wanted an upscale place before a concert or game!

Just Joe

By Joseph L |

The short ribs you could eat with a spoon , meat fell off the bone. The NY marinated steak was so delicious with horseradish sauce on the side hmmm. The breads were so flavorful I could have eaten that with the juices from the steak.

Our waiter was like a steak aged for 5 weeks. Simply awesome.

By nfarocks |

The steaks are delicious. The sauces served on the side were excellent. The baked potato was as big as my head (and that's pretty big), the side Mac and Cheese was almost as good as my wife's. When I told that to Norman, our waiter, he threatened to hook me up to a lie detector. A great time in a great atmosphere made even better by our excellent waiter. (Too bad he's a NYR fan. But, hey, no ones perfect).

Sizzlin' Eats at Nick & Stef's In the Big Apple

By Stephanie M |

This was a perfect spot to have dinner before the Sir Paul McCartney concert! We enjoy and much prefer to dine outside while the weather. It was cozy and a perfect end a summer night to dine on the veranda. Kudos to our server who guided us through the menu, wanting to sample a little of everything. GREAT job everyone! Next time, we save for dessert.

Good choice before an event at MSG

By Joe M |

We went to Nick & Stef's following The Cure concert last month. The restaurant is literally inside Madison Square Garden which means it probably won't be the cheapest and I was leery of how the experience would be. However, the food was very good - my branzino was lighty and tasty and the sides were all delicious. Moreover, the service was absolutely superb. I would recommend this restaurant for anyone going to a show at MSG as they do have a special patron's entrance into the arena.

Disappointed

By Brsaf |

I went before a concert to see Andrea Bocelli and was looking forward to a great meal before a great concert. Unfortunately, it is not one of the better steak houses. Our cocktails were not the best, the bread was not good as they give you bread with cranberries & raisins, salted bread stick, and 2 flat breads......My fiancé ordered the filet which was 8 oz and fairly pricey compared to other steak houses. I ordered tuna...yes, I know it's a steak house but the menu and choices seemed limiting to me. The tuna was extremely spicy which I didn't know, and therefore, I couldn't finish it. The waiter was good, but unfortunately, I will not go back.

Birthday treat

By angela day |

We were greeted with a smile and given a lovely window table,it was my daughters birthday and they gave us superb service. Our waiter think he was called john was very attentive and helpful without being pushy. Our steaks were superb, cocktails and wine spot on and even a candle in the dessert. A wonderful unhurried evening,a little pricy but well worth it for a treat.

Great Food

By Eileen B |

Best steakhouse near Madison Square Garden. We were able to celebrate our anniversary in a romantic restaurant, and follow up with Billy Joel. The drinks were good. Tuna tartare was delicious and fresh. Crabcakes, and NY Steak were excellent. Prices are high but steakhouses always are and this is in NYC. Everything is a la carte.

Steak restaurant in NY

Excellent steak with great service !!! Me special steak houses raised for one more place. So after the steak in Moscow in Bolshaya ordynka str., 65. Belgium beer house and Ukrain, Odessa, Deribasovskaya str., this place is the 3rd GREAT STEAK restaurants. Amazing taste and best service.

Back Again!

By winniejames |

On Sunday, Feb 22nd my husband and I met our son and his finance for another wonderful meal. This time we made a reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival. This was our second time at the restaurant and my son and his finance's first. Our waiter was attentive and pleasant. We had the crab cake appetizer and also the tuna tartar. Both excellent. We ordered the tuna steak, hanger steaks and onion soup. Oh and I almost forgot sides of mac and cheese(OMG GOOD) and mushrooms. Once again, nothing was a disappointment. Excellent appetizer, dinner, dessert and mostly friendly courteous service. Cant wait to go come back into the city for another great meal.

Not sure what NYC steak Houses previous reviewers go to!

By Munson79 |

We had a customer lunch for 7 people today. I just don't get it? I paid $51 for a T-Bone that was about as good as a sizzler $15 steak. We had the sprouts with bacon that were soggy and tasteless. The best part of the Lunch was the Wedge Salad although it just doesn't compare to the other high end steak houses in the area..ie:Wolfgangs or Keenes Chop House. The server was excellent and unfortunately I was not in a position to formally let the management know of my experience. I did let the server know and he was very apologetic. Again the food was cooked properly just not a quality meal. Again, based on the reviews maybe it was a bad day and it was lunch, the room was only half filled so maybe that was an indication. This was average at best. I work in the area so will try again...maybe for dinner.

Nice place. Can be expensive.

By jtmarino |

Went there today for lunch with a customer. I ordered off the Friday Prix Fixe $29 menu. That's actually a decent deal. You can tell that some folks go there on Friday for that deal. The waitress gave me that oh-no not another prix fixe look when I ordered. I got lobster bisque. Strip steak with yucca fries and cheesecake. Everything was great. Bisque had nice chunks of lobster and was tasty. Steak cooked perfectly and tender and juicy. Cheesecake nice and light not dense and it was a nicely portioned out deal. The waitress tried to get me to order additional side dishes to pad the bill which were not necessary and I declined. She hit the jackpot with my customer who ordered off regular menu which is pricey. Lobster bisque for him too $15. He had a shrimp special $38. And chocolate cake which was more than $10. So more than 2x price of the prix fixe. His entre looked good and he enjoyed lunch. Waitress asked a few times if we wanted coffee or more drinks even after I asked for check. She was tacky. Food was great and if you are expensing then no worries. Otherwise go for the $29 deal. Nice looking place and located right at the garden across from 1 Penn plaza. If not for the pushy waitress would have given a 5 star.

Perfectly Grilled Streak and Pork Chop

By NS |

They were perfectly on time with our reservation. Good services and knowledgeable from the restaurant crew. Food were perfectly cooked. Lunch is good size and shareable. Location is good for before or after basketball game meal. The price is a little high, but worth to try.

Disappointing and Owner doesn't care for poor service.

By Raphael S |

Had dinner at this place on a business trip. Food was ok (steak) until I got my side green beans - 15 haricots on a plate for $11... I thought it was a joke (or a mistake), so I asked for a "refill" to have a decent portion of my veggies... I was charged another $11 for the additional 15 haricots. I ended up paying $22 for a portion of green beans. What a joke ! I informed the waiter of my dissatisfaction and got a "I will tell them". I informed the reception desk on my way out and I was replied "the management doesn't care" and "the owner is in LA and doesnt care about customer service and satisfaction" That was the end of it for me. I paid $122 for a steak, a small Heineken, a decent serving of green beans and a slice of manufactured chocolate cake. Come on guys - last time you will see my credit card.

Steak was ok and lamb was

By Anthony O |

Steak was ok and lamb was good, vegetables expensive and service mediocre. Everything else was Meh! A meal for 2 with one drink cost £180 uk was not worth that kind of money. Central location that’s the only good point

The Best!!!

By Queenfashion95 |

First I want to thank Sal the manager he was fabulous! The food was amazing incredible wine list. Our server was sweet and knowledgeable. I had the rack of lamb and it was perfection. Unfortunately my daughter was ill so we were unable to stay. They were so accommodating wrapping everything including our bottle of Barolo which was just decanted. This is the place in NY for great food, service and wine. We were unable to return due to the hectic schedule for New York Fashion Week. We will be back next NYFW☺️

Take Two!

By ssbelltx |

So after my first review I was invited back to give Nick and Stef's another shot. We were given a table in a alcove area on the side of the front door, it was quieter and less crowded. Our server was attentive and friendly. We started with shrimp cocktail which was well done and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. I had the New York steak and my BF the petite filet. We ordered medium rare, the steak had good flavor but I think it was closer to medium but you can judge the photo. The truffle fries and Brussel sprouts were excellent. We had gelato for dessert ( excellent ) the apple tart is nothing to write home about. Would I go back? Maybe. I think this is an extremely busy location where during concerts and events people are on a tight schedule. The place has limited space. I think given the high volume and crowds they do a very good job. We appreciated the opportunity to try it again. I would upload pics but I don't see a link.

Amazing place!

By Francesco |

Right here there's the best steak I've ever eaten! The place is fantastic, situated in the center of NYC! Even though price is high, I recommend it to all people which want eat well

Good food and so convenient to Madison Sq. Garden

By Carolyn P |

We have eaten there twice. We took a chance and showed up without reservations shortly before 5:00 p.m. on the final night of the Westminster Dog Show. All tables were booked, but they squeezed is in at a table right around the corner from the entrance door. We really did not care about ambiance, since we were just needing a bite before attending the dog show. The wait staff was attentive and our steaks were perfectly cooked.... We got a doggy bag and a couple of my favorite bull terriers were very appreciative!

excellent meal before a Billy Joel concert

By roha19 |

We had an excellent dinner at Nick and Stef’s before attending the Billy Joel Concert at MSG. It was a really nice way to start a fun night. We started the meal ordering a bottle of wine, while we waited to hear the specials and look over the menu, there were so many great choices on the menu. We ordered a couple appetizers, like a chopped salad, shrimp, and crab cakes. They were delicious and the service was great. It’s always nice to enjoy wine and appetizers while trying to decide what to order for the main course. For dinner I had ordered an ahi tuna dish, that was excellent. Others in my party ordered a steak, and two chicken dishes. Everyone enjoyed their dinners, they were cooked just as we ordered them, the chicken was not dry and the steak and tuna were done medium rare as requested. We capped off the evening with coffee, cappuccinos, and chamomile tea, before heading upstairs to enjoy Billy Joel play. The restaurant is definitely pricey, but that’s expected right outside MSG. We really enjoyed it, would definitely go back

Well located

By Luis Otarola |

Just arrived to NYC late and staying near Madison Square Garden previous to an event;this was the only nearby formal restaurant.Steak was OK,service so and so.

Disappointing — better values elsewhere.

By justcare |

Recently went to dinner here after a NY Knicks game with my brother . Service was slow and uneven . We were finally given our drinks after we finished our appetizers . Food quality was just OK especially considering the cost —5 average sized shrimp in the shrimp cocktail for $27 and the rib eye steak for $66 . I ordered the salmon and it was farm raised and small portion — but prepared well . The final insult occurred when I was given another customer’s bill . I have had much better meals and service in other Steakhouses in the city

Delicious

By mrssimsy2014 |

My husband and I are here last week and both thought that the meals were fantastic. Our waitress was attentive and helpful, service was great. It was expensive but I'm prepared to pay for an experience like this. The ambiance was nice, low lighting and as we are quite late there were only a few other tables in. We both had the steak which was cooked to perfection with sweet potato fries and normal fries. I'd definitely come back. :)

Expect to see Frank Sinatra walk in!

By tdc |

This restaurant has the classic Sinatra Rat Pak vibe. Great decor, great staff. Located at Madison Square Gardens, Penn Station....can't beat it for convenience. The food was good....not great....but good....very good, actually. The price as a bit steep for the actual product, but the atmosphere made up for it.

Outstanding food and service

By Martin L |

January ‘22 - Visiting NYC for a special Family Birthday and wanted to try a New York Steak. This place is super close to MSG so a great way to start your evening if your watching the Knicks. Welcome upon arrival was fantastic and service brilliant also. We both had the New York Strip and it was cooked to Perfection with a fantastic accompaniment of French Fries. The Malbec is delicious. A tad expensive but let’s be honest this is NYC and you get good food and service for value for money. Can’t wait to visit again

Dissapointing

By FlorinaNewYork |

On December 20th, 2014 we had an unsatisfactory experience at Nick +Stef's Steakhouse that I described on my trip adviser account. Few days later AGM Jennifer Rubin responded apologizing and invited us to a complimentary dinner for two. On March 10th, 2015 I sent an email to Jennifer telling her that the next day we’ll be in the area and we decided to give a second chance to N+S. I also asked for confirmation. I am sorry to say, but it was again an unpleasant surprise… No answer to my email…not the next day, not until today…that makes me realize that the hospitality is no better than the food!

Great find near Penn Station

If you are looking for a great steakhouse near Penn Station Nick and Steff's should be on your list. Great friendly service and very good food made our evening meal an exclamation point at the end of a long day.

Food good, ambience zero

By Yolande L |

Ate here after the rush for a Billy Joel gig. Steaks were really excellent but place was almost empty and lacked any energy.

Beware their unstated lunch hours and inflexibility.

By Bobnic |

We went for their restaurant week lunch two course $29 special last week. Had trouble locating the entrance from inside Penn Station and, with the nearest Penn exit closed we had to exit by the subway resulting in our arrival a couple of minutes after 3pm. We were seated and given their regular dinner menu (cheapest entree $65 also carte). We asked for the restaurant week menu and were told that lunch ended at 3pm and hostess walked away. There was but one other table occupied. We walked out. I later checked their website and could find nothing about their lunch hours. The restaurant week menu on the website made no mention of hours. They also have a regular fixed price lunch menu that says only "Monday thru Thursday", but nothing about hours. Very unaccommodating place and poor website information.

Great Lunch before Amtrak.

By RonKathy_2011 |

Got to Penn Station a couple of hours early, so decided to revisit one of our favorite restaurants. We like to eat at the bar and we were greeted by our bartender, Lorenzo. Great service, great attitude! My wife had the roast beef dip.. delicious and actually enough for two. I had the Lobster Roll.. as good as some I have had in Maine! A repeat every time we come to Penn Station.

Pre Who concert

The food and service here are both excellent. I would, and have, recommend this restaurant to people going to a show at the Garden or anytime really. I must say that the staircase leading to the Garden does make it very convenient.

Some Strange (Inaccurate? Reviews

By David S |

We went last night prior to the Paul Simon concert at MSG. I was a little unsure as to whether N&S was a good choice since I had seen some strongly negative reviews with regard to both food and service. We came early at 5:30 and by 7:00 the restaurant was full. We were seated promptly and orders for cocktails/wine/beer were quickly taken and served. The food was very good to excellent including crab cake appetizer, slab bacon, and salads. Entrees included the porterhouse for two cooked perfectly to medium rare, and for the non meat eaters, crab cakes and chicken. Very good sides were sautéed spinach and mushrooms. Service was very attentive throughout the meal. So I don't understand why there have been several negative opinions. Sure it is quite pricey (almost all NYC steakhouses are) and not any place I would go to regularly because of that but this was worth it. And the concert was great.

Was Hoping for Better

By Sparky-1967 |

Being Foodies we were looking for an upscale Steakhouse with a creative menu. We were staying at The New Yorker across from MSG. Based on advertising we thought this might be the Steakhouse we were looking for. When we arrived we noticed a décor that was much more simple than we expected. We found the restaurant to be down right cold. The temperature in the restaurant was that of a meat locker. We asked if this could be adjusted but they were unable to get the temperature regulated. We had difficulty getting a gluten free meal. This is odd in a steakhouse. As the meal went on it seemed as if the Kitchen was disconnected from the rest of the establishment. Time of the courses was off...first it took forever for apps, then the meal came right on top. We were promised excellent GF choices for dessert so save room. It just so happened they were out of ingredients, so we went without. It was really busy in the restaurant and I assume it was due to a title fight at MSG. Food was good and the service was friendly.

Another Ranger Game!

By winniejames |

For Christmas my husband purchased NY Ranger tickets for me. We decided that we would once again dine at Nick & Stefs Steakhouse. The food and service were excellent, however we were very disappointed with our table. The tables along the wall are TOO close together for a restaurant of this class. Our waiter was great, food great, table terrible. The table on one side was actually right up on our table and it was very uncomfortable. Conversations were difficult, again too close. Next time we dine at Nick & Stefs Steakhouse I will be specific to NO table on the back wall. A $227 dining experience should be positive all around. Consider removing a table and spreading out the seating along that wall.. Would make everyone more comfortable and a more enjoyable evening.

Great, convenient for dinner before a show at the Garden

By Sharon S |

This worked out perfectly for us as it was raining. We walked to Nick & Stef’s for dinner then headed thru a secret door in the back to see a concert at Madison Square Garden. The food was prepared perfectly. It definitely was pricey. (My favorite wine I pay $34 at home was $150) but in the end it was wonderful. Our waiter Roger was a hoot and very attentive. I give this restaurant at thumbs up.

Bad Service and Overpriced

Ate here yesterday evening. Was looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate a special occasion. On arrival the staff were not very welcoming and we were shown to the table without a 'hello' or 'thank you for dining with us' etc. Within 5 minutes of being seated we were asked if we were ready to order, felt very rushed into ordering even though the restaurant was half empty so no need for us be rushed. We ordered a Mozzarella and tomato salad which was literally 1 slice of tomato and a chunk of cheese for $17! The steaks were fatty and chewy. Considering all of the steaks are around $55 I was expecting a much higher grade of steak. The service was non existent by waiting staff yet a tip was still expected. I have eaten in may steakhouses and had great expectations of Nick and Stef's however this fell way below the expectations.

What a bust

Went with Steve to the Ranger game and went to Nick and Stefs before the game. Of course its quite crowded and everyone wants to be out for the game but would still expect food to be cooked right. Started with a caesar salad which was very good. I should of stopped there. Steve had the bacon slab which was a good bit fatty. For dinner I had the N.Y. Strip It was a decent size. Problem was it was pre cooked and dry and not cooked medium. Came out part rare. Next problem was it was partially cold. No time to wait for another. Wit all the steakhouses we should of chosen a better one. Very disappointing. Steve had the short ribs which he said was good. Service was fine. Surely won't go back unless I am desperate.

Great steaks and service.

Great steaks and service. Rachel was our server and she was friendly, attentive and brought over a slice of birthday cheesecake for my birthday. Great stop before a concert or game at MSG

Great location - MSG

By Tom_B_NJ |

Businsss lunch - burger was actually good. Fried calamari was a good appetizer. Salads were just average. Waiter was pretty aggressive to get us to order more

Fantastic for Big Parties and Great Steaks

There were 12 of us going to an event at Madison Square Garden and booked dinner here since it’s in the same building. Our service was quick and they got us in and out with plenty of time for our event. All the menu items are well executed and the aged porterhouse for 2 is a standout, probably one of the best steak I had. So tasty. The only reason I took one star off is a checkout issue. The restaurant had some problems with their credit card machine or service, so we ended up having to pay the bill in cash as we had to leave to make our event! Luckily, we had enough cash amongst our group, as it was not a cheap meal! The manager and server apologized, but this was the only issue we had. Would absolutely come back again.

Best steak ever!!!

I really don't know which was better steak, Mac and cheese or Norman our awesome waiter. We will definitely go back on our next visit to New York.

Dinner before a show at MSG.

By Michael C |

Decided to try this restaurant before a concert at MSG. My wife and I enjoy eating at steak restaurants. We were promptly seated and then everything went downhill. Took over ten minutes to be greeted at the table. My wife ordered a salad which was fine. I had the stuffed clams which were very bland. My filet was ordered rare. It came out fatty and medium well. When the sever returned she removed it and Dias she would get me a new one. New one came out and I wasn't sure it was filet. The cut was thin. It was cooked rare but was still fatty. Cut out the fatty parts and I did eat it as I wasn't waiting for another. Highly disappointed for the money that we spent.

Great service and dining

Dined here prior to Brandi Carlisle concert at Madison Square Garden, and glad we did. The food was excellent - the service was spectacular. Steak was perfectly cooked. Friends had seafood that was also enjoyable. We came due to the proximity to MSG but would come back for the food and service.

Great Steaks Near MSG

By arubaphil |

My wife and I attended the Doobie Brothers concert and had dinner before the show at Nick and Stef's Steakhouse. Nick and Stef's is a great choice as it's directly on the side of MSG and because it's a great restaurant. They have a full bar, bar seating and an extensive wine list. Service was professional and attentive. We began by shaing a wedge salad. It was split prior to serving, very fresh and dressed perfectly. For entrees, I chose the 14 oz New York strip and my wife selected a seared diver scallop special with lobster mashed potatoes. We shared a side of brussels sprouts. The scallops were large and seared perfectly and the steak juicy, tender and beautifully charred. We shared a delicious chocolate cake for dessert. Nick and Stef's is a great dinner choice and a great location if going to MSG.

Best place arounf the garden.

Ive been going here since ive attneded games at msg. Lawrence and miguel at the bar offer amzing service and are very very friendly. The food is great as well.

Expensive- must have been an off night

By Amanda K |

Other reviewers seem to have had a better meal than us. We waited ages for drinks, then food was almost flung onto the table so quickly. We both really felt that as 'tourists' they knew we would tip them regardless and the service was very poor. Food was nice, Appetizer and Entree well prepared and presented, dessert was definitely reheated. And then to make it worse- as we were leaving we overheard the waitress offer the table next to us a 'surf and turf' which my husband would definitely have ordered but we were not given any specials. Side dishes of vegetables- asparagus especially were delicious.

Good, but could be better

Recently, went to Nick & Stef's for the second time a few weeks ago. The first time I went it was amazing, the second was good. The food is good, a little inconsistent with how well they cook their steaks but for the most part it was okay. The food, taste wise is delicious. My husband and I liked the location of this place, it is in MSG (entrance to the restaurant is on the outside of MSG), and after you are done eating, there is a passageway leading to a check in for MSG, so getting to the game was easy and quick. Our waiter was very nice, but disappeared for a little while. It could have been an off night for them, and I would probably still go back, but the first time we went it was a better experience.

Brilliant meal midtown NY

By Graham_Crieff |

Saw this as we passed Madison Square Gardens and expected a steak in a sports bar. Yes you can sit at the bar, Quiet when the game is on, but the restaurant is first class. Food was excellent, Steaks cooked to perfection and a very knowledgeable server who recommended both food and portion size - 1 side is plenty big enough for two to share. Really enjoyed this meal, a bit more expensive than the usual NY restaurant but in line with the quality steakhouse that it is.

Dinner before the Rangers Game

By Chrisf222 |

The food was pretty good, the atmosphere was very loud and and a little tight but then again it's NYC and its in MSG so for the luxury it's worth it. It's not bad and a little pricey again the luxury of being at the Garden. I am glad I tried it but for the money there are many better places to go in NYC. All in all I enjoyed it.

Glad we went

Perfect location for a meal prior to an event at MSG. Place is jumping. Very loud. Food is pricey but very good. Service was on point. Very nice wine selection

Eh... Not bad, not great, convenient, expensive

By steveInNY |

The title really sums it up for me. I was told the Nick & Stefs was one of the top 10 steakhouses in NYC... I find this a little hard to swallow. Meals for my wife and I we good but not great like the price. The baked clams were a real disappointment... Do not order them, essentially chopped class and yucky bread pimento mixture spooned back into the shell. Not a fresh made appetizer. The lump crab app tasted bad to me, fishy and not fresh. Wife ate it. She enjoyed her chopped salad. mushrooms side were very good, spinach side was blah. My steak and lobster tail were very good, broiled lobster tail was very good. Service was very good and attentive. Definitely go here before a MSG event... But be prepared for a stiff bill. Sadly, I would not go otherwise. Too many other great steakhouses to choose from... Like Jack's down the block.

NYC Steakhouse a Bust!!

By Joan P |

Looking forward to a delicious juicy steak & willing to pay a good price for it! Quite a disappointment!! Not only was the steak very dry, it was not the best cut. We tried to get our waitress (Patricia) to lighten up but she was very abrupt & downright rude @ times. Didn't check to see if our food or drinks were good. Not very well trained for such an upscale restaurant. Wouldn't recommend because there are so many great places to eat in the city! There also was a very loud bartender that made it sound as if there was a bar brawl going on. Boo hoo!

Service great, meal not worth the price

By Dave L |

Hostess and server were great, location great at Madison Square Garden. But the streaks were tough and hard to chew. Very limited bar options on mixed drinks

Fabulous Food and Service with a Secret!

By BlueHways11 |

This was a delicious and fun meal from start to finish. We were there for Ariana Grande's concert and the restaurant was completely full, but I never felt rushed or pressured to order - thanks to Jessica, our star waitress! Our caesar salads were one of the best I've ever had and my crab cakes were stuffed with fresh crab, almost no filling: heaven! My daughter loved her short ribs, too, and the cinnamon fritters (we couldn't resist desert) were mouth watering. Everything about our dinner was perfect - including my Manhattan and our cappuccinos - but the secret entrance to MSG simply stole the show! I'm still smiling thinking how it's there in plain sight but... not! A wonderful meal, great service, and a hidden passageway into the Garden: I might have to get tickets to another MSG event just for an excuse to visit Nick & Stef's again!

Great if going to MSG

By Italy100 |

Service outstanding and they get you out on time for the show. Great place to go if you are going to MSG. However, very noisy and tables on top of each other. Food good but we had the crab cakes and they tasted a bit off. Didn't know if they were bad or old crabs. Halibut speical was good but overdone. Food does come out hot.

Typical steak house menu, well-executed

By Oliver J |

Lively restaurant, literally in Madison Square Garden. Typical steak house menu but well-executed. Good meats, good wine list, friendly service. My tuna tartare was average, but the Filet Mignon was very very good, nice Mushroom sauce as well. Ice Cream was good as well - rich flavours. So nothing incredibly innovative, but very solid execution. Prices reflect location (i.e. not cheap)

Good NYC Steakhouse

By arubaphil |

My wife and I were attending the Elton John concert at Madison Square Garden and made a reservation at Nick and Stef's. Nick and Stef's is located on 33rd street and Penn Plaza directly around the corner from MSG. The restaurant has a full bar and a very active bar scene. In addition to steaks, the menu has other options such as seafood, chops, chicken, short ribs and rack of lamb. We began with a crab cake appetizer that was very good and was mostly crab and little filler. My wife ordered the stuffed shrimp with crab and I the filet mignon. Both portions were good and delicious. All steaks come with your choice of many sauces. I chose the horseradish cream that was excellent. We shared a delicious side of mac and cheese. We then shared an apple cobbler for dessert. The waitstaff was very friendly and professional. Service was prompt which is good if you are attending an MSG event but they did not rush service if you wanted to linger over coffee. For good food, service and proximity to MSG, give Nick and Stef's a try.

Great luncheon spot

Food was very good. Great location. Great service. Kale salad was excellent. Great business lunch spot.

Good meat restaurant!

By Benedetta FD |

Our waiter resembled Stanley from Sherlock Holmes Game of Shadows! However he was very friendly and his suggestions were very good. The place was quite empty so not much of an ambience but very good simple food next door to the Madison Sq Garden!!

Great Steaks, Quick Service, Great for Large Groups

By LuvtoSafari |

This restaurant is attached to the Madison Square Garden and knows how to service large groups quickly. We were here with 12 people pre-Garden event. Got in and out in less than 90 mins. It's NY and steak, so prices are not cheap ($50+ for steak), but the steaks were grilled to perfection. I asked for a rate ribeye, it was perfectly seared on the outside, and pink and juicy on the inside. Well seasoned and nicely aged.

Not worth the money

By Steve I |

This is an expensive restaurant and one would expect excellence but we were very disappointed. The waiter was an older gent who kept forgetting our order. The food was just ok. I should have suspected because the place was empty. Don't waste your money.

Food and service - great combination

By Eva A |

Classy place, with an amazing steaks and variety of sauces. And the staff was very chatty, friendly and funny. We were really impress with the quality of the meat, totally worth the price.

Birthday dinner

By redeve236 |

My husband took me to Nick &Stef’s for my birthday. We had never been there before and were not disappointed one bit. The steak was on point (delicious), so was the lobster and shrimp and let’s not forget the chocolate cake. The staff were very attentive and made sure our glass was full at all times (we only drink water). We would definitely go again.

Good Steakhouse; Nice Menu

By Kim K |

Had another good experience with Nick & Stef's. Food was well prepared and timed. Service was excellent. Chose this restaurant because of its location to Penn Station. Was disappointed that I was unable to make an Open Table reservation and had to call for seating. Will visit again.

Oysters while waiting for my train

By TomM1951 |

If you want some quality while waiting for your train, get out of Penn Station: this is right above the train station, on 33rd st. between 7th and 8th. I had 1/2 dozen oysters and a glass of wine while waiting. It was fine, but no competition for the oyster house at Grand Central

Fantastic!

By Michele W |

Went here for a business dinner. We had a 6:30 reservation. Part of our group was tired of walking around the city around 5pm so we figured we'd sit at the bar. The hostess said our table was available and it would be not problem to wait the 1 1/2 hour for the rest of the party. Even our waiter, Allen, was not at all put out by us essentially loitering for all that time. He was great from beginning to end. Food was great, service amazing and great atmosphere. I am actually going to a concert on Sunday and made reservations for my husband and I based on such a positive experience.

Good , but issues

By twebst |

I love this place. It is extremely convenient for trips up from Philly. But this time, it seems to be slipping. 7 pm reservation and they were out of bone-in new york and the strip. Disappointing

Convenient to Penn Station and MSG. Consistent in every way

By tms215 |

This isn't a destination restaurant. It is a convenient restaurant if you are traveling or going to an event. Food is good, there are better places if you go a few blocks. It is right at MSG so if you are meeting people who don't know NYC this is a good spot to catch lunch or dinner. Food is consistent and fresh. Service is pretty good. I go here for the location more than anything

Nick & Stef's a wonderful meal

By Susan G |

We were looking for a excellent restaurant close to our hotel and found Nick & Stef's across the street. We found it to be a delightful setting and has access to Madison Square Garden. It was an off night and seating was available. Our waiter was Roger and he was more than accomodating. We had special issues and he handled them without complaint and exceeded our expectations. The food was served in courses and each one was outstanding. My wife and I shared the bone in T bone (we're light eaters) not only was it outstanding, but they cut it in strips for us without us asking. All in all a great experience and would highly recommend it.

Unexpected wonderfulness near Penn Station NYC!

By Pattyfromjersey |

Who'd a thunk you'd find a great steak restaurant right outside of Penn Station? Took the train in with a friend from Nj and quickly arrived at the restaurant! They pour strong cocktails and the ambience is conducive to a social or business meal if you're looking for something near the station! Overall, a great meal...but for me, only when I need a good go to place and don't want to mess with traipsing all over town!
