My sons and I visited Philadelphia for a long weekend, planned the three days on food (admit it...you do the same thing, too!). We walked to Nom Nom for dinner. After the long drive Son #2 was not feeling well, so he stayed in the hotel. Son #1 and I both ordered the Karai (spicy) Miso Ramen, which looked like normal ramen but packed a punch. Nice flavor and the right amount of heat. The pork was cooked perfectly. The broth was rich and almost silky. Best Ramen I've had outside of Japan! We also split an order of Pork Buns, which was the same pork from the soup but in a steamed bun with a spicy sauce. WOW! We should have gotten individual orders. But one pork bun and a big bowl of noodles was a lot of (delicious!) food- and a great deal. I got an order of regular Miso Ramen to go, and Son #2 said it was the perfect pick-me-up! A simple restaurant- order at the counter and pick it up when they call your name. Nothing fancy, but they focus on the food. If I lived and worked in Philly I'd eat there at least once a week.

I recently went to Philadelphia for a day trip and this place was on my list of places to visit. It's a small, cozy ramen spot that's conveniently located near cafes, shopping centers and restaurants. I love ramen and I have a palate that knows pure authentic ramen. I have to say that the Chef Special Aka Nom Nom Ramen that I had was amazing. They had a decent sized portion of pork belly chashu which was delicious, the egg was perfect, the broth was very flavorful and the ramen noodles were just the right texture. The service was excellent. I love the vibe that Philly has and I would recommend this place to all ramen lovers.

Best Ramen ever. Amazing flavor depth to the stock. Nice assortment of additives in the soup. Noodles are special made and don’t have the usual texture but not in a bad way. Nice cozy atmosphere. Simple in about the soup

One of our favorite Ramen restaurants in Philadelphia. We used to here a lot, but since we moved to the Suburbs, we haven't had a chance to stop by Nom Nom for a while. Excited that their Pork Belly or Charshu is still delicious - melts in your mouth. We enjoyed their tender Pork Belly Buns - stacked with double of the Pork Belly slices that you usually get at other restaurants. Food comes out quickly - can't go wrong with Nom Nom Ramen.

At 9:30pm on a Friday, I stumbled across this place looking for somewhere to eat that was still open and was instantly grateful that this place opens until 10pm. Hearty ramen, a nice variety of flavours and lovely staff. If I'm in the area again I will definitely make a return trip.

Saturday at 1pm, Sept 17: entering a well kept and friendly wood paneled dining room, very friendly service. Chef and owner has created different ramen dishes. Took the first ramen on the list. Besides me were 6 other persons in the restaurant. I received the dish after 12 minutes with a competent description of the components provided by the chef. The compisition was well seasoned, 2 good slices of tender pork belly, a half waxy boiled egg, a robust beef broth and the homemade paste. After serving the dish, the service was very attentive and helpful. I would defenitely combe back

I used a food take out service app to try this place and was so glad I did! I got the chicken ramen which had nori, some mushrooms and scallions. Inside my bag were two little containers of hot sauce to put in the broth. The service was very efficient and the food was super hot and placed in properly secured containers and then a bag so I wouldn't spill any of it. The portion was huge and I was able to save half for dinner. Great flavors that I could tailor to my taste. I will return.

Tried Karai ramen with egg. Soup was bit too salty and was not as hot as I expected. Noodle was nothing extra ordinary. One thing to take note will be the pork. It was good

I actually didn't get ramen, whoops. I got a rice dish that reminded me of a poke bowl, but it was different. It had some vegetables that I wasn't super familiar with, but the combination of rice, sauce, salmon and veggies was perfect. It was fast and delicious, with a cute, simple decor. Great location, too.

Food was awesome. The salad dressing wasn’t runny. My ramen was tasty and spicy. Ambiance was cool, street view.

My 8-year-old son and I went on a trip together and saw this place reviewed online. We’d never had real Japanese ramen before but wanted to try something new. We both loved it! The servers were friendly and attentive as the food was absolutely delicious!!

Were traveling from Oakland, California and spent a week in downtown Philly at The Palomar hotel nearby Nom Nom Ramen. After seeing reviews we walked to Nom Nom and sat down right away. Had a delicious chilled cucumber dressed nicely then had gyoza and ramen. The straight noodle kind - not curly - very tasty. The interior was nice with a patterned wood wall and other design elements. A fun time!

There is a first time for everything - it was my first ramen! I ordered the house special, which comes with a whole bunch of stuff i can't pronounce (or spell). I loved the broth, apparently it takes them 24 hours to make it. The pork belly was nice and everything else added nicely to the complexity. Not sure about the soft boiled egg, can't see how that adds to the experience but oh well. Service was fast and friendly. I would definetely go back!

Excellent food thats very tasty and quick! Try the spicy varieties if you are up for it but the veg and Non-veg options taste equally good. The portions will leave you filled and definitely wanting more (I know its not possible but you will believe me when you eat here). Me and my friends had a great time here and will probably be going back for more when we are in philly!

We stopped in after a LONG day of sightseeing. Ended up ordering (4) different rolls: Green Dragon, Samurai, Tokyo, and Spicy Spider. Absolutely delicious!!! Perfect proportions and fresh, fresh, fresh. These were made with love, style, and elevated passion - they did not disappoint. We took them as a carry out and were astonished at the presentation when we opened our bag back at the room. Everything we needed down to cups for our soy sauce. We will return before we leave Philly. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

We found this place searching specifically for Philly ramen, and this certainly met my expectations. The Vegetable Miso ramen I had was a little bit salty, but definitly delicious. I loved the music and the place had charm, though the name is a bit weird. Very yummy.

While working in the area I ended up eating here three time within a week. The Karai miso broth is great, not too spiced but will bring out some sweat. Not only do I recommend the pork, it is so tasty and tender or double pork and past in the flavor.

I have a medium bowl of shoyu noodles. Taste great, soft whole eggs, 2 slices of melt in your mouth pork meat and lots of noodles. The taste is very close to the one in Japan. The reason I gave 4 star is because they only take cash.

Decided to try a noodle shop that was easy to get to by train and this one stood out because I saw a Best of Philly sign on it. The space itself is spare and the menu may be tricky for first timers but the servers will help you decide. The bowl of Karai Miso was filled and very tasty. I did have a reaction later that night but can't be sure it was the food. There may have been an oil in the broth that didn't agree.

It's an OK place. Definitely not survive in Japan (and maybe not in NY), but OK for Philly, especially near Rittenhouse. This is basically the only decent noodle option in the Rittenhouse area, which is a plus. The soup and the noodle are both so-so, nothing exciting but nothing to complain too much about but nothing to get excited about at all. Except for it's a tad pricy (maybe due to the location). For the price, the amount of the noodles made me sad (even with extra noodle). Definitely below Terakawa, and Hiro. Above Chou (Nom Nom is more authentic).

This was the first any of us (group of 4) had Ramen. We had a Meso based dish and shrimp appetizer. I thought all the food was very good. We did not have to wait long for anything but it appeared to be a slow time for them. For the 4 of us we spent around $85 with tip.

We read about this place on 18th St., just south of Market, which was near where we were staying. Very casual, self serve place that has 4 kinds of ramen soup that come in 2 sizes, regular and large. You can add additional ingredients to the soups for an additional cost. The two of us split a large shio ramen which came to two smaller bowls each of delicious soup with noodes, pork and various other items. We also split two spicy soft shell crab buns. Everything was very tasty and well prepared. Total cost including a fountain soda was only $21. A real find in Center City Philadelphia

Nice small and cozy place, staff is friendly and helpful. Prices are reasonable for this are. Great location for business lunch or dinner after office day.

With the overnight snow and a cold Sunday morning, we opted for a hot ramen brunch. Chef's Special Ramen has an excellent broth, light and not spicy. Ramen noodle is firm, moist, flavorful mixed with that heavenly pork belly, very tender and butter pork fat! Grabbed two variations of their Pork Belly Tonkotsu Ramen which supposedly have that 36 hour pork broth)...Karai Tonkotsu (spicy) and the Miso Tonkotsu...both equally sumptuous bowl of ramen. The miso broth is creamy but not overpowering. TIP: Karai is quite spicy, slurping the noodle not recommended for a novice. Regular bowl ($11.50) is sufficient for one person if you order a side of rice or a pair of Bao (soft bun, a 'pillow' of delicious appetizer). Large size ($14.50) is typical ramen portion that you get in Shibuya (Y1,000 = $10)...surprisingly cheaper in Japan. The place is tight but manageable. Staff very efficient and attentive. Street parking is tough, as expected in the city. I will definitely come back. They have better ramen than Cheu Noodle or Terakawa. Maybe on the same caliber as Ippudo in NYC.

Visited Nom Nom the day before thanksgiving. It was the first time my friend had ramen and the waiter was very kind to notice and bring her a fork instead of chopsticks. We ordered edamame, hot Japanese green tea, and spicy chicken ramen. Everything came to the table in about 7 minutes and the restaurant was pretty full, so the service was impeccable. The employees were kind and it’s a great atmosphere (the music was so on point with 2000s throwbacks that night). Definitely visiting again!

In addition to the delicious, nutritious ramen choices on The menu, try a bun. We had the eggplant bun and it was fabulous. Served like a taco, tempura fried eggplant with shredded pickled daikon and carrot and cabbage. Cucumber and scallions with spicy mayo and coconut mayo in a soft while bun sliced in half. Truly outstanding. Service is fast and attentive. Very busy at lunchtime. Reasonable prices.

Ramen broth was lacking unami and richness. The char siu was tough and lacks flavor. The noodles were decent though. Portion was small despite ordering a huge bowl and it was pricey for its portion. They did not have sesame seeds or togarashi at the side. Would not come again to this non-authentic Americanized ramen joint.

Not very experienced with ramen but the staff was super helpful and patient in guiding me to a tasty ramen bowl. My only critique would be I asked for a choice with a lot of vegetables and would have been better to go with the tofu and vegetarian bowl. I do recommend especially if you are staying at the SonestanRittenhouse as it’s just around the corner

Me and my friends randomly found this spot while looking for quick dinner, and what we found is a gem. The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming, the service is friendly and straight forward, and the food was excellent.

I visited Nom Nom Ramen during my last stay in Philly. It was very close and convenient to the hotel. I've passed this restaurant several times but never stopped until now. So glad I did. Broth was flavorful and pork cheeks was soft and tasty. The regular size is plenty big unless you are super hungry. On the recommendation of the waiter I got the spicy broth special Ramen. It was delicious. The egg was cooked perfect and noodles were good. The broth had a good amount of spice to it. Waitstaff was very attentive and made sure my water glass was never empty. Only negative was that they don't take Amex but take other credit cards. Will definitely visit again.

I had never tried a ramen restaurant before, so I was a little lost on the menu. The pork in black garlic sauce was good. Spider buns and eggplant buns had a lot of flavor. Small place and very busy.

Our waiter was very attentive- water glass was always full. A large was enough for leftovers for one and my wife and daughter shared another large bowl. Chicken buns were fantastic and like nothing else that I have had in the past.

Luckily the first two places we tried were not options, so we ended up here! So glad we did! Nice, clean eating area and fast friendly service. We had the pork ramen, chicken ramen and miso chicken ramen. All three were delicious and very filling. Neither one of us was able to finish the small portions. Perfect after a chilly evening exploring Philly and before a chilly walk back to the hotel. Make this your first choice of places to eat in the area!

Best ramen soup for a long time. The service was also perfect, the toilet was clean. If you like Japaneese food, this is a place for you. I only missed the alcoholic beverages.

A bunch of us went here before a concert to grab a quick bite. It wasn't a bad walk from the parking garage. When we entered the restaurant the waitress told us they only accept cash. She did tell us there is an atm nearby for those who need it. The menu scared me at first, but in the end I ordered the eggplant buns and my boyfriend ordered the vegetarian ramen. Everything was delicious. There were so many flavors. Totally worth the trip!

The classic Ramen in Miso soup were delicious. Very good and authentic. The service was very friendly.

Awesome fast food. Fresh. Tasty. Good service. Busy. Wait to be seated. Nice selection but easy to decide. Love the flavor.

This was our fourth visit to Nom Nom. We are consistently pleased with the food—the pork is so soft and delicious. But our server this time was exceptional. She was excellent with my kids and helpful with some of their questions about flavors and textures. She was attentive without being at all intrusive and even anticipated some of our requests before we even asked.

I came here with my mother a couple nights ago. Best bowl of ramen I’ve had, I think. The pork was incredibly tender, melt in your mouth tender. Noodles were cooked nicely. The broth was delicious. Really, I can only give praise!

The Pork Ramen was sooo delicious that we had t come back for more. The place is very nice and clean, the staff was friendly, overall I highly recommend this place.

The bowls are nice sized with a okay flavor, have to add the sauces they provide and then the flavor is amazing. Not too expensive and definitely worth a try.

We are from Florida and we dont have any restaurants like this where we live. We were looking for a regular chinese restaurant but since the one we found on trip advisor was closed we went searching. We came across Nom because it had an Asian name so we went inside and proceeded to give it a shot. Its a small cozy place with a bunch of Asian soup plates. Since it was our first time we were a little confused which soup plate to order, although the attendant was pretty good in explaining it was alot to take in. We ordered and all in all was a pretty good food experience .. different but filling. We are on vacation so it was nice to try a place like this. Its not your classy big restaurant but it is a filler upper at a descent price.

I've been coming here since this place opened. Nom N is the best ramen place in Philadelphia. I've tried a few and still end up back here. I suggest the Karai which is a spicy miso broth, extra spicy. YES. Order it with extra spice. Great for winter. Cash only or level up.

The food is ok, but the portions could be larger. The choices are limited, but the service personnel are pleasant.

Fantastic experience. Wonderful inviting atmosphere. Warm aesthetic added to the ambience and overall experience. Food is top notch, many options to choose from, vegetarian, GF, etc. Highly recommend the Karai spiced broth, nice medium heat. Warm knowledgeable service. We’ll be back!

Very good, I had never had ramen and really enjoyed this. The broth, flavorful, fresh ingredients, hot, delicious. Generous portions. Cash only.

We didn't come to Philly for ramen noodles but the restaurant came highly recommended by our cousin who lived in Philly for the past year and a half. Great food at a good value.

Very good food and nice spot to grab food with friends. Was very quiet and not crowded on the night I was in. The spicy ramen bowl was great as had heat but not over bearing. Also got the veggie/tofu which had a lot of veggies and was very fresh tasting. Greatly enjoyed.

If you're after some tasty ramen in Philly center city, look no further than Nom Nom ramen. They might not have the widest selection of ramen but what they serve up is reasonably priced and tastes good. We had the shoyu ramen and it came out to us super quickly. There was a nice selection of veg in the ramen and the pork was well cooked too. I could have done with a little less fat on the pork but it's easy to remove. Definitely a good option if you're looking for a quick, non-fussy dinner.

We've been eating here for a while. When it started out, there was a very small menu and you ordered at the counter. They did a lovely remodel of the interior, the menu has now expanded greatly and there is table service. The ramen is delicious with lots of options regarding toppings, meats and broths. There is something to please very taste or diet (including non-meat options). The steamed pork bun appetizers are the best. We sometimes think about just ordering enough of them for our lunch/dinner. The ramen prices are not cheap but the servings are huge- our lunch filled us up so much that we cancelled our dinner plans for that night. The only warning I have is that the karai (spicy) option varies wildly in intensity from visit to visit- from pleasantly hot to way too hot for my taste so only order it if you are open to the possibility of a real burn.

Rated some of the best ramen in Philadelphia and ur shows! A delicious mix of perfect ambiance and food. If you are in Philly check it out!

We ordered the shoyu chicken & the tonkotsu spicy bomb... Broth on the Shoyu chicken was average - rather diluted... The tonkotu ramen was much better. Clean broth (e.g. not as heavy as a "syrup" like many ramen joints..., perfectly spiced. The only issue here is the noodles. It is supposed to be Hikata style (thin noodles) but the noodles here - as soon as the bowls arrived - already became soft... Need to work on this one

My daughter and I were visiting and looking for a lunch spot. Nom Nom Ramen was nearby and the reviews looked like it would be great choice. The restaurant is small but clean. The staff were friendly and the food was excellent. The pork buns were a must have. There was a small rush of people when we sat down but the food was delivered quickly, hot and delicious.

We ordered the Shio and the Karai Miso although both were good we agreed that the Karai was REALLY good. Try to go after 1pm to avoid the lunch rush (tables fill up quite quickly). They staff was courteous and service was fast. Only wish I could have had an extra piece of pork without having to pay for it :)

We tried Ramen noodles during our recent trip to Japan and loved it! So once we got back and saw that Philly had a Ramen restaurant too, we just had to try it. The noodles at Nom Nom taste close to the ones we tried in Japan. The meat is soft and melts in your mouth. The noodles were not as soft as the ones in Japan though. I'd say that the bowls in Japan were bigger and cheaper. We paid about $10-$15 for both of us in Japan, while we paid here $29 for 2 regular sized bowls + 1 order of pork buns. Loved the pork buns though! Service was friendly and food came out really quick. Definitely recommend this place if you've never had these japanese noodles. I've posted more pics here on my other blog if you're interested: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Been-There-Ate-That/156499854368045

It was ok, but only just. The place is small and has a lot of people all wanting food in a short window of time. Very expensive for a small bowl of noodles. It was $15 for a meal that must cost no more than $2 for the owners to serve up. They are really making some money in there. If the price was half, I'd eat there again. Don't go out of your way for this one.

I was expecting servicable fast food but this place was more than that. Small space, but with lovely wood (or bamboo?) line walls was very pleasant. Raman was yummy, with may varieties. We loved the buns, we had the eggplant but I bet they'd all be good. Pleasant and quick service. What's not to like. We'll be back next time we're in the area.

Whenever i am in their vicinity I stop by for lunch...i always get a spicy miso based ramen bowl and it is consistently delicious. The broth is well flavored with elements of spice and miso, and the ramen is also very good, made in their restaurant. The bowl includes assorted veggies and inari tofu in it. The server always offers to add an egg but since I'm vegan I say no to this...Even without the egg this is a substantial lunch and the friendly atmosphere is also nice. If you show up exactly at noon it will be very crowded, but appearing earlier ensures quick service before it gets crowded. The menu has a number of other items including meat based broth and appetizers...

I have been eating lunches here for several years. The ramen is fantastic and has historically been among the best in the city. However, recently they have gone in the wrong direction on prices and quality: First, they raised prices, both in dollar terms AND they decided to add on tax (8%) instead of building it into the prices as they used to do. A double whammy. Most (if not all) dishes will easily be over $11 for lunch, with many nearing $15 if you decide to add any extras (e.g. soft boiled egg). They also continue to be a cash-only place despite the price increases (that bring them above the typical credit card minimum) and of course they welcome use of their $2.50/transaction ATM if you happen to run out. On the quality side, I have noticed two things: thinner and lower quality pork meat and "not-so-soft" boiled eggs. After their renovations they created a category of premium pork which is probably where they put the nice pork they used to put in the original version. The soft boiled eggs are hardly ever soft boiled anymore and rarely have a thick but smooth yoke center. Finally, the service seems to have dropped down a level even though they appear to have more wait staff. Not sure how that happened unless they cut a cook or two and replaced them with runners. Overall, disappointing and you should easily expect a 20-30 min wait on a cold or rainy day if you are taking out. I will say that the renovations are very nice and the look and feel of the place has improved tremendously. However, customers don't eat fancy wood or kabuki masks. They just want good food a reasonable prices.

The header aptly sums up our dining experience. I've had Ramen in really good spots in NYC, so I was truly blown away by the amazing things coming out of Nom Nom's kitchen the other night as we were in town for a show. The nom nom bun, with pork belly aka bomb was simply outstanding in flavor. While cautioned of it being spicy, it was the perfect compliment to the tasty pork belly. Loved the delivery too as it resembled a taco only it was all beautifully ensconced in a pillowy (I like that) bun. Had we known, we may have foresaken the ramen, and did a half dozen of these - they were that delicious. Also ordered the gyoza with the dumplings being nicely crispiefied with a nice dipping sauce. I ordered the Karai Toro Niku Ramen with a request to add bok choy to this bow.. The pork jowl was so tender, the ramen fresh and fully immersed in a delicious tonkotsu broth that obviously simmered to that desired apex flavoring. Just an outstanding restaurant serving amazing ramen.

Cozy and local restaurant. Great food and Very nice staff. Food was of good quality. Refill of coke and water was free Great taste. Many local guests

My wife and I had lunch here this past Saturday when we arrived in Philly for a weekend visit. We both had the chef's special Ramen and it was phenomenal. The brother is so tasty that I drank the whole thing up. The noodles were great and the other ingredients were also delicious. The price is also reasonable. We would definitely recommend Ramen here and will come back again.

After walking the city for two hours and building up hearty appetites, my mother and I visited last month for lunch. I had visited Japan in August and ate a lot of ramen, so my expectations were high. Nom Nom Ramen delivered! The menu is a good size, not overwhelming, but good variety. My mother, who has never eaten Japanese food ordered the Yasi Ramen, and Nom Nom Ramen for myself. It was fabulous! The broth is very rich and flavorful, just like I remembered from Tokyo. Our server was very friendly and helpful, describing the dishes to my mother... The atmosphere is warm and cozy. I highly recommend this place if you're in Center City. Will definitely visit again when I'm in the area.

Stopped in for a late dinner and was glad to have ordered a special--vegetable curry ramen bowl. My bowl was a bounty of flavor. Excellent service and a welcoming space.

These are some of the best Bao buns I have had. I love the pork but there is a great selection for every taste. Ramen (Pork Belly Tonkotsu is my favorite) to Rice bowls (Pork Katsu is my favorite) here is not a bad thing on the menu.
overpriced
I don't get why this place charges $18 for a bowl of ramen while it's competitor and even well known ramen place in Manhattan charges only $12. It's portion of pork is larger but I felt overall mediocre in taste. It's service was good, pleasant staffs but with the fountain drinks machine in the open seating area This just felt more like a generic fast food places yet it commands a high price for its mediocre noodles.
