Quick bite before the theater

By Scott S |

Decent pre or post theater spot with average food. Ordered egg rolls, dumplings and shrimp with black bean sauce. Egg rolls were okay, dumplings were good and the shrimp in the black bean were small and over cooked. Other dishes might be better but nothing stood oth this visit.

NEVER EVER AGAIN!

By FortVince R |

We had walked for about 14 hours and were exhausted and hungry when we got to our room around 10pm. We ordered and had Ollie's delivered to our room which was convenient however, I should have gone to bed hungry! The lady who answered the phone just yelled and barely spoke English. The food was "mystery" food other than the rice ... we ordered crispy sesame beef which looked like dog food out of a can and General Tso chicken which tasted as bad as it looked. Utterly disgusted ... and paid $60 for the food ... the sauteed vegetables and rice were okay because at least we could tell what they were ...

Great food

By Karen M |

Came across this place when out for a stroll, really efficient staff, excellent food, huge portions and great value....went back for 2nd visit.

Whatch out!

By Joao LS |

The food it’s not bad but it’s the worst service in New York! At the end they bring you the bill and ask for the tip saying it’s not included in the bill. Asked for a receipt with the total amount I have to spent but they couldn’t give me. I left with the staff talking in Chinese and I’m sure saying that they loved us..... Avoid.

Best Chinese Take Out in NYC

By Bri |

Lets be honest, it can be really hard to find chinese in NYC that is good. Its typically fast food with brown meat that you can barely chew. Not Ollies...Its my favorite place and if you get delivery, it comes very fast!

Terrible! Expects a tip before service is given

By Meika A |

I placed an online order, and seconds later, Ollie's called asking for a cash tip due to rain (barely a drizzle!). So rude and unprofessional to ask for a tip *before* delivery! I canceled. Then, when I called to confirm, they implied I canceled to avoid tipping. Seriously?! Terrible customer service; they only deliver if tipped. What's the point of a delivery service then? #CustomerService #Delivery #Ollie's #Tip #Problems #Food Show less

Lovely food, very quiet though!

By TheReeses89 |

Nice portions, stumbled upon this by accident and was pleasantly suprised with quality of food. busy but lots of locals. very quiet place no real atmosphere, could do with some music at least in the background. :)

Terrific Food

By passionate-gardener |

We were there last night. There is a huge choice of many different Chinese cuisines. Everything we chose was delicious. Service was excellent.

Excellent Chinese Food

By B18NJ |

Great for a pre-theater meal, especially for Theatre Row. The food is fresh, well prepared, and very tasty. Everything we had was delicious. Highlights included the General Tso’s Chicken which was made with large meaty pieces of breast, and the hot and sour soup.

Great Chinese food, great service, great affordable prices, great gluten friendly options

By maj252016 |

The food is delicious with plenty of gluten friendly options and is served by helpful staff in a busy comfortable atmosphere. Situated right across the road from the Pod Times Square Hotel, this was a really good find.

Best Chinese

By remsen |

In midttown / Hells Kitchen, there are several good Japanese restaurants and many Thai restaurants, but few Chinese. Ollie's is consistently good. The service is efficient. The menu will satisfy most taste. My vegan friends are very happy with what they find on the menu.

Good Sichuan food...

By lga2jluk |

Dropped by for a quick mean before theater. Seated quickly and ordered a couple of basic dishes. Good food, reasonable price and fast service. My daughter went back the next day because she liked it and she lived in China.

True Chinese Cuisine

By nmontesa877 |

I could never find a Chinese restaurant that serves well or at least how one would be treated in Ruth's or other fine dining restaurant. The food is good, but it's more an eating experience than a dining experience. The servers are just that servers, but they impose 18% gratuity immediately. The servers do respond, but it lacks the finese.

Hugely overrated!

By SamAdamsGhost |

Dumpling apps by far the best thing on the menu. Add a cold beer and ask for the check. The beef, chicken and seafood entres very average and very salty. Service was good. This is your classic tourist trap Chinese restaurant. I would not return or recommend.

Authentic Chinese Sichuan flavors near Times Sq.

By Tiffany T |

I am so glad there is a delicious Ollie's in my area to satisfy my chinese food cravings! Came here on a Tuesday night with friends and the restaurant was busy, but we were able to sit immediately. I would highly recommend what our table ordered: Steamed soup dumplings Shrimp fried rice Dry sauteed string beans Cold sesame noodle Sauteed beef with shredded carrots Sliced pork belly garlic stems Boiled fish filet in spicy broth Everything was great but my faves were the sliced pork and string beans since you can never go wrong w/ those. Also, the spicy broth fish soup was the star of the show! So full of flavor and authentic numbing sichuan spiciness that I LOVE. I can't wait to come back and try more of their dishes.

Disappointed

By Jabba the Gut |

We ordered take out from here after reading some of the reviews and maybe we caught them on a bad day but we were really disappointed. Yes there was a lot of food and it arrived within 10-15 mins of placing order but it was reheated and bland stodge. Maybe we will try again another day but with so much competition out there would rather spend money trying somewhere else.

One shot, that’s it…

By CM M |

We had lunch specials, which were okay. Service was minimal, and that was okay too. But the bathrooms were disgustingly filthy, especially the toilet seats. They also charged about 4% of your bill if you pay by credit card. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant and there are other options close by.

It worked!

By Elise G |

We ordered take out. The meals were as described. We were happy that each the Broccoli dish and Asparagus dish had just broccoli and asparagus and were not full with other veggies (like an abundance of onions and peppers as happens in other restaurants). All foods, including the tofu dish, were cooked to perfection. The dumplings were scrumptious. Service was great and the price for Manhattan was what was to be expected (three vegetarian entries, and three appetizers for just over $70.00). I would definitely go again.

We love this place

By Nigerdave |

We go to this restaurant every time we're in New York. It offers a wide range of really great Szechuan Chinese food that never disappoints us. We just love it. This time we got a whole fish and spicy green beans. It was as good as ever. It's almost always crowded but there's usually not a long wait to get a table since they have a lot of tables. There are usually many more Chinese people there than non-Chinese which tells me this is the place to get the best Chinese food. (I am not Chinese, but my Chinese friends have taught me well).

Yummy Food

By Pauline |

We fancied some Chinese food and the doorman at The Edition hotel recommended this for some authentic Chinese food. It did not disappoint! Really enjoyed our courses of sweet and sour chicken and the chicken and pepper special with some boiled rice on the side. Buzzy restaurant which had a few Chinese families eating there ( always a good sign ) highly recommend. Delicious

You know you're in a good Chinese restaurant when the people around you all seem to be Chinese.

By NYCBizCoach |

This is one of our go-to places when we need a quick dinner before an early curtain (like on Tuesdays when Broadway shows go off at 7pm). They get you in and get you out with reliable, tasty and affordable Chinese food. We don't order the same exotic things as the Asian folks but always have a good meal.

Nice Spot To Have Lunch or Dinner in Hells Kitchen

By regoqueen63 |

Ollie's serves very good food at reasonable prices. The place is clean and bright with ample seating. This is my go to place when I want Chinese instead of Italian. Never disappoints.

Great Chinese food close to times square

By Sudipto65 |

We accidentally found this place close to our hotel in Times Square. Though not confident about the Chinese food in New York in general, we still went in as there was an authentic look about the place and it was full. And it exceeded our expectations. The spicy sichuan food was really to our liking, the portions were large and the price reasonable. The steamed fish in particular was outstanding. No frills good tasty food and highly recommended

Terrible place

By RDMALM |

Went here for dinner staff where very rude everything was a rush we ordered a starter we didn't even have the starter finished when the main meal came and the girl was taking away plates while we where still eating. The food wasn't great. I had just finished eating the main meal and again the girl was straight over removing plates before my partner had finished eating and then she came straight away with the bill. We had left a 5 dollar tip and the girl came back and said that wasn't enough she wanted more. Very rude staff it seemed as if they wanted rid of you as soon as possible. Wouldn't recommend this place

Too hot too salty !

By Foodloveralways28 |

The egg drop soup not bad , but the port dish too hot too salty, service not bad ! Tip: If u want a light taste must inform them

Traditional

By Robbo456 |

Very much a traditional Chinese restuarant just slightly off the beaten track in Hells Kitchen. Seems to be popular with locals and was fairly busy at time of our visit. Good food, decent service, fairly basic surroundings but worth a visit.

Dare I say the best Chinese food in NYC?

By Foody4LF |

A friend who has lived in the the city many years took us here a few years ago while visiting and we've always returned in subsequent trips. The decor is lovely, the wonton soup is superb, mushy chicken fresh and flavorful and the desserts unique...bean curd sounds gross but the red dessert bun was delicious

Second best Soup

By christophfuhrich |

Only the soup Made by mother ist better! One week in new york , two visit at ollies. Doesnt Matter If you like the vegteable soup or the cantonise soup with wontons.

a quick meal-good food

By ianshamshey |

I had been to Ollie's many times before but not sure if I reviewed them. It was a rainy night in New York City and I was between appointments. I decided to use this time to have dinner and stopped in at Ollie's. After being seated almost immediately, water, tea and a menu appeared. I looked at the menu quickly and decided on the chicken with cashew nuts. Shortly after, my food arrived. I did not recall the food being so salty but this may have been an isolated incident. it was still delicious. I finished dinner, my check arrived, I paid my bill and left-very efficent!!

Terrible food and staff

By anuj937 |

The staff was very rude from the door to the table and the restaurant was chaotic. We were seated in the middle of very loud Chinese groups and we could barely hear anything anyone said. The service was very unkind and we didn´t like the food. We received the check faster then ever seen before, at the same moment our plates were cleaned from the table and we didn´t even had a chance to ask for it :).

Food Good But Long Wait

By NOAH L |

See my title. Once we got in, we had to wait and wait and WAIT! We left. Another time, we got served, and the food was very good.

NY Chinese

By Ed R |

NY Chinese restaurants are always great. So different than many places around the states. The atmosphere is interesting. The choices are many. They give you tea, like the old days.I got there just after the show crowd left, so i got a table quickly. They are petty quick. i started with a hot and sour mixed egg drop soup. You can't get this everywhere. Then i ordered the hunan beef and fried rice. Serving was kinda big. Service is good. They all help each other and keep things going. The crowd was interesting. Being right on 42 st., you would have never caught me in this area many years ago. But this area now is full of surprises, too include this place. The food was good. The price is ok. Iwas sitting close to another couple and we began to talk, in between the singing of the meal and that wad kinda nice. Got to meet some really good people. That's always fun. I can recommend this restaurant. I'll be back for sure.

Christmas dinner

By Kimberly S |

We were in NYC during Christmas...for sure not the Christmas Story movie experience. Amazing authentic Chinese food. Extensive menu, fast service, and large portions. Was packed everyday we were here.

Another delicious meal

By Timothy W |

We met with four of our friends for dinner, and had a wonderful experience. The food was well prepared and delicious. The ambiance and decor are exceptional. Service is very good. Just a short walk from several theaters.

Noise with your food

By bakfar |

The food is neither Sichuan nor Cantonese. It is rather mediocre large portions. All that could be forgiven if the noise level weren't so impossible. As soon as the restaurant filled up you had to scream to be heard and the staff did not help the situation. As they were setting up tables for a party, they were so loud among themselves that we had to sush them to no avail. If you plan to go go off hours. I wouldn't bother again at any time.

First Time, Good Choice

By GeorgeH-LI_NY-ExPat |

Our first time to this restaurant in the City, but the other people we were with have been several times & knew what they wanted. I had the "Tea Smoked Duck w/ Ginger". My wife had the "Roast Pork". I really loved the Duck & my wife enjoyed her "Roast Pork". Our friends had "Prawn w/ Broccoli". The sides included Brown Rich & Sauteed String Beans. I also had a fantastic Beer; Tsing Tao. We shared everything with all and everything was very good & we all enjoyed the meal. The restaurant was very crowded, but the service was fast & efficient. It was very clean and well decorated. We look forward to going again when in the City.

Really tasty quality food - Would Recommend !

By Alan |

We enjoyed our usual favourite Chinese dishes here at Ollie's Sichuan Restaurant whilst visiting NYC and it was a really nice enjoyable meal with good service and also at an acceptable price. Would certainly eat here again and recommend too.

Stopped for dinner before a show that was just accross the street.

By AFW-Florida |

Service was prompt and attentive. The food was very good. There were few other customers, so the place was very quiet, and we could easily have a conversation--a welcome change from most restaurants.

Chinese Restaurant

By Avi H |

I love this Chinese restaurant for many years. Good quality of food. Nice variety of dishes and excellent atmosphere.

Awful!

By Fran S |

This restaurant was recommended to us by concierge, but my what a disappointment. Cold welcome followed by cold plates and cold, congealed rice. Wine bottom of range and waitress abrupt from start to finish. Peanut satay had never seen a peanut and was lacking flavour. Manager said we should have complained before bill arrived. We did but waitress not interested. Not a pleasant experience for our one Chinese meal in our brief NYC stay...

Food poisoning

By Silvia |

We ordered from this restaurant mainly because it had great reviews. The food came on time and it was warm. While eating it, the food was delicious. Unfortunately, a few hours after our meal my husband and I developed a severe case of food poisoning. I will spare you the details. We were very disappointed to have had such an experience and having to miss two days exploring NYC because we were literally unable to move nor meet up with our friends. I am writing this note to alert the restaurant to pay more attention to the food preparation. We trusted the restaurant because it had many positive reviews but unfortunately for us it was a very negative experience.

Great food, nice atmosphere

By John M |

Had food here twice, once in the restaurant and we also had a take-away. Good food, friendly service, nice price :-)

Great food

By StephanieJG2014 |

Food here is great. We have tried many dishes and everyone has been tasty. Most of the restaurant was filled with Asian families so we trusted they knew good food and good cooking or they would have eaten at home! Try the General Ciao chicken which comes with perfectly cooked broccoli, Orange Beef is Crispy and sweet. The mixed vegetable are cooked to perfection still a touch crunchy and fresh tasting. The shrimp in black bean sauce is equally good. Everyone loved the hot and sour soup as well. The wait staff could be a little friendlier, an occasional smile would be nice, but the food is worth the visit!

Yummy Chinese food near Times Square

By jonfalk |

Everything was great. Food was tasty, service was pretty fast, and servers are friendly. I definitely recommend OIlie's for anyone in Times Square looking for a pleasant meal.

Exceptional food and great experience!

By Buck Y |

Food was delicious! Staff were polite and portions were large. Walking distance from Times Square. Great Chinese food! Highly recommended!

Good food, fast service

By agsotiriou |

Really enjoyed the food, and amazed by the speed of service. We tried the mixed noddles, rice, ribs and some various starters. We all really liked the rice, was overall reasonably priced too.

Sichuan at it's best

By HistoryofArt |

We happened upon this restaurant by accident. Hungry, after a long day of sightseeing. We were greeted and seated in no time. We ordered and received our food quickly. The best I have had. We ordered 3 entrees for the two of us. I had one cocktail, our meal plus tip was $63.

Love the food!

By Victoria T |

This restaurant is near the Port Authority Bus Terminal. My husband and I love the food here. The restaurant is spacious too.

So Good!

By Mandy D |

This little chinese restaurant is on 42nd Street a few blocks away from Times Square, what a find! it was really busy which we thought was a good sign, and mostly Chinese people eating there which again was a good sign! we had to wait a little while for our table but our order came really quick and was absolutely delicious and such good value. Totally recommend.

Typical chinese restaurant but good food.

By Hetbelgje666 |

We didn't have any problem with the service. Didn't take long to order or get the food. Food was good. It was very noisy, not the place to have a romantique dinner. Not sure the tea is complementary. :-) But no free refills.

Good food

By Travelisfunyay |

We stopped by Ollie's on our way back to our hotel one night. We had the Chicken and Eggplant in garlic sauce and the Beef Shanghai noodle soup. Both were very good and service was attentive. A loud table in the corner was disturbing a few customers but was far enough away not to bother us. Fairly reasonable prices for NY!

Every dish was spot on!

By ottersRus |

If you are looking for Sichuan and you are near HK, it’s worth the walk to Ollie’s. This restaurant does it right. We had been told a ten minute wait. In three minutes we were being seated. It’s a busy place but staffed well to handle it. Apps of spicy dumplings and hot & sour soup were on our table in no time. Both were a big hit at the table. Main dishes of chicken and veggies and Sichuan chicken n veggies was also delish. Priced affordable with great service and delicious food.

Amazing dinner

By woodthorn |

The staff were among the friendliest we experienced while in New York - very happy and very friendly. The food was absolutely stunning. We shared 4 dishes between the 4 of us which was easily enough, and not too expensive overall. Some of the other foods being brought out to tables nearby made us want to return to try more! Definitely recommend.

Best eats near Times Square

By shashasharon |

Affordable and Yummy. Ollie's is the best. I can't say anything else. Affordable and yummy. Nice looking restaurant. Efficient. Best General Tsao.

Excellent

By Glenn F |

We had dinner twice at Ollie's whilst staying in New York, excellent food and service both times. Would definitely recommend this place.

Always Great!

By Carl S |

We have been here many, many times. When we come into the city to see a show, Ollie's is not far from were we park, and is right across from the Port Authority Bus Terminal. We have never been disappointed with a meal! Authentic Chinese and very (for NYC) reasonably priced. We also always buy more than what we can we so we take take home the leftovers and enjoy it again the next day. Very extensive menu, with many things you may not want (some native Chinese delicacies), so ask for help. By far the freshest, tastiest Chinese food you will ever have.

Still satisfying after all these years

By David B |

If you want a tasty, quick, inexpensive place to eat, consider Ollie's in the theater district..especially recommend the generous and filling noodle soups.

Great value authentic food

By Mollywalks |

Offering a lunch menu for $8.50 we found the food fresh, tasty and the service a bit brusque but fast

Pretty good

By Lilikoiaimee |

Decent. I mean I didn't expect much. Got the eggplant chicken and was not seasoned enough, kind of bland. Added salt and pepper. Nice portion. Offered brown rice which was nice. Complimentary tea. Came super fast. Good service. One time visit.

Popular with locals and tourists

By Cindervermont |

We love this restaurant! It's fairly small so be seated by 5:45 because the place is full by 6:00. It's close to the theatres so it's popular before a show but it's also popular with local families and couples. The servers interacted with several regulars while we were there and that was nice. The portions are large so you should plan to share or have a take home bag. The selection on the menu is excellent and the food was delicious. They can handle groups of 6-8 at a table and they do take reservations. We each had a large meal and only paid $36 for the two of us = that's in NYC = awesome!

Good Chinese Restaurant

By Christine D |

We usually eat here once each time we visit NYC, no real complaints so far. We enjoyed the Cantonese egg rolls, yang chow fried rice (perhaps slightly oily) and the kung pao chicken. All quite nice. To be honest the table next to us looked like they had some really tasty dishes too. Speed of service is average as is their friendliness but nothing to put us off. Lots of variety on the menu - would come back. You can pre book if you email them.

Brilliant food and superb service

By MrsDarcy63 |

Just finished lunch at Ollie's. excellent service from Siew Meng Kong. Great advice and recommendations on restaurant specialties. Great soup dumplings, General Tso chicken and Singapore noodles. Everything super tasty. Only one niggle wine was ok but far too expensive:(.

Gotten much better

By Justin W |

I have been going to Ollie's for years, especially when it was in Times Square before their rents drove them out. That is when they were really good. When they moved to this new location, they had gone downhill for awhile. The food and the service have improved greatly since then and the food has really improved. I always have their eggroll with it greasy goodness and they are really good. Their Cantonese Wonton Soup with Egg Noodles, Wontons and Roast Pork is the best on a cool evening and great if you have a cold. Very nicely located by Port Authority Bus Terminal it is a hope, skip and a jump from Times Square. I had a very nice late night dinner.

BEST Chinese Food

By Janine M |

Truly sophisticated cuisine for a moderate price. We dined there and had take-out at least 4 times in one week. Just Love their food. we would watch what other people were eating so that we could order those dishes next time. So much variety, prepared perfectly, generous portions, reasonably priced. Look forward to going back. Great location on 42nd street.

Good food, fun experience

By eric1963 |

Being out of towners we came to the city with certain pre-conceived notions. Ollies fit perfect. Recommended from our bellman at the Hilton Times Square. The atmosphere was exactly what I envisioned a true NYC Chinese neighborhood restaurant would be. Matter of fact staff attitudes, a little cluttered and messy dining room and wonderful food. Go and enjoy...prices are really reasonable for NY.

It’s good to be back

By Kitty272727 |

We are not takeout fans, so we skipped Ollie’s during the pandemic. Now we have eaten there twice in the past month. It’s back to usual with the addition of plexiglass dividers and masks on servers. My ma po tofu was still good, with just some of the Sichuan peppercorns lacking, fried beef with orange peel (Western husband’s taste) was actually quite well done, and broccoli with garlic sauce is always good, the broccoli not overdone and not raw. Our usual modus operandi is to order three lunch specials for two of us, have plenty of hot and sour soup, and then take one bowl of rice home to make congee. It has worked for years; we’re glad to be back.

Great Authentic Food & Resonable Prices

By steve g |

Excellent and authentic Sichuan foods with great service at reasonable prices. The restaurant is almost always busy and I highly recommend the food if you like spicy Sichuan cuisine. The service was very quick and attentive and the prices are very reasonable. All together a great experience and I highly recommend the restaurant.

Good food and fast service

By Joseph N |

The place was crowded but they worked quickly to get us a table. The food came quickly and they checked on us frequently. All of the food was very good.

Give this a miss, which is a shame

By Paul R |

Went there with a party of 5, let me start by saying the choice of food and quality was out of this world. However ! The food was rushed, drinks were almost thrown at you and the waitress was extremely rude. Unfortunately I will not be going back or recommending.

Shouldn't Be Your First Choice

By Zoom_Gotti |

I think the only reason this particular restaurant survives is because of its location, 9th at 42nd. At first glance the menu looks reasonable. But my meal was tasteless and there were large cuttings of egg shell wedged into the rice. Moreover, I thought the wait staff to be fairly unreasonable. I had cash and she insisted I pay her personally. We parried about 3 times on this before I walked up to the cashier and paid. I know there are other Ollie locations; maybe the food preparers there know their trade a bit better. But not here. If you want good Chinese, maybe try Chinatown.

Good food, not as great service...

By lr62194 |

I've always wanted to try this place, since my nephew's name is Ollie, and I was really excited to try the food. I went with my girlfriend's mom and we had a couple of dishes (meat, veggies and dumplings) trying to have a little of everything. The food was fantastic, tasted very genuine. Unfortunately, the service wasn't as great as the food was. The waiter and the host seemed like they were in a rush, even though there was barely anyone there. They were very rude, asking us to repeat our order over and over, and it just seemed like they didn't care. I can understand if you are busy and need to get stuff done, but it would be nice to treat the customer with SOME level of respect.

Awful food and they want you out fast

By MSManc |

My wife and I have struggled to find Chinese restaurants outside of the UK / China or Hong Kong as good as at home and in the USA they have been the worst . We are so lucky to have so many good ones to choose from in the UK. Tried Ollies last night despite mixed reviews and it was awful. Place is often described as authentic but it is tired looking. It certainly is busy and the staff are trained to get you out as quickly as they can. Mains arrived whilst starters were not finished. My wife had spring rolls that arrived hot and we're just about OK if very stodgy . I had the ribs that looked great but certainly were not so good to eat . Very chewy and certainly did not have the meat falling off the bone as I like. For mains I had Prawn and Cashew which was an enormous portion as well as all the meals I noticed being served. Prawns tasted strange and were certainly large but with a texture like rubber . My wife had steamed chicken with veg , they call it the slimming option. Some of the chicken was not cooked and the veg was defo undercooked . It tasted very bland. Both meals were served with what they call brown rice, not fried rice. It was terrible and tasted stale if that's possible for rice. Normally I would have sent the meal back but we were tired and just wanted to go. Bill came to 57.50 with the ridiculous USA tip guide from 15 to 25 % shown. 25% !!! I threw down 60 as the meal didn't deserve paying , never mind a tip. Waiter ran over as we were leaving to tell me their was a mistake with the small tip I had left . I told him there should have been no tip and we left very disappointed.

Really Great Family Run Restaurant

By markpoyn |

Very bright and clean spot which is not too expensive and is convenient to the 42nd St Port Authority Station. I had the Spicy Red Pepper with Shredded Potato which was marked as very spicy. Even eating the dried red peppers I found the dish only medium spicy. The peppers were definitely of a higher quality that those used at most restaurants. The peppers themselves actually had a nice flavor which is rarely the case with dried peppers. The potatoes had a much better flavor than usually found in this dish. I absolutely look forward to having this dish from Ollie's every time I'm in New York. I also had the baby eggplant with spicy garlic sauce. It was very good, although I will ask for extra garlic next time. I tried the dry bitter melon out of curiosity and was not disappointed, the dish was also quite good. The scallion pancakes are also really well done, flavorful, and not greasy as is often the case. I ordered takeout so I can't really comment on the service except to say the cashier was very, very nice and the waitstaff certainly seemed to be bustling about. I highly recommend Ollie's for the quality of their ingredients, the preparation of their dishes, their extensive menu, and the friendliness of their staff.

Wow, this is a nice surprise

By mm__j__ww |

Wed by this place ( it is right across the street from my hotel) and decided to try a quick bite. Asked if they had mo po tofu and the waitress asked if I wanted it spicy (I did!). I didn't even read the menu, (next time!) but saw a lot of interesting dishes going by to the other tables. Bottom line, the place is comfortable, the staff is friendly and efficient, and the chef is GOOD. Their take on Ma Po was very much what I consider "Hunan" style - very salty and smoky, and that amazing kind of chili that very lightly anesthetizes the palette during consumption, but leaves no afterburn at all. VERY Hot, but not debilitating! Five stars, will definitely be back to try more dishes here (Y)

Great food, friendly service

By ScaryyH |

Great food, friendly service - the orange chicken and the egg roll were both amazing, would go back and recommend!

Food poisoning!

By Lloyd B |

If you want severe food poisoning eat here!! Stay away! Became very ill just 10 minutes after leaving this place

Really good Chinese food with great atmosphere!

By Renee G |

This is my 4th time eating here and it is my family's favorite place to get Chinese food in New York without breaking the bank. Hands down it has the best General Tso's chicken. The atmosphere is lively, service is good but the food is amazing and reasonably priced. Looking forward to eating here again when visiting NY.

Huge portions and good food

By Controlfreak28 |

We were staying close by and noticed lots of Chinese people dining here which to me is always a good sign! Portions were HUGE! Consider sharing or you'll have a doggy bag to take home. Chicken and cashew nuts and sweet and sour chicken were great - duck was a bit tastless. Dim sum and spring rolls to start were fantastic. Service was so so but nothing that would stop me from going back.

Pre Theater Easy Dining

By Colleen M |

So good, Great Food, Amazing, friendly, service. Scallion Pancake was perfect, just what I was craving. Was on an outing with my 13 year old niece and she wanted Chinese, this was the most convenient to our show. She had the sesame chicken and loved it. Prices are good too. Large portions!

Big table of cousins!

By nancy e |

We had a great, unrushed lunch at Ollie's. The staff was very nice to let us hang around. Only one of us lives in NYC, the rest traveled there.

Very Good Chinese - and in mid-town New York!

By Anbrugo |

This is not a tourist place - it is really Chinese! The quality is high, the prices moderate, and the service excellent! I had one of the large noodle soups - very good - it was billed as an "everything" soup (chicken, pork, shrimp, etc) The Chow Fun dishes were also great - and also a pork with dried bean curd was outstanding. The best time to go for dinner is around 5 pm - by 6 it is very crowded. Service was exceptionally good with efficient and quick response to any requests. This restaurant is definitely worth multiple visits. Enjoy! Travel Safe!

Goodfood fast service

By Thomas D |

Stopped by on way to Broadway show, a great place to stop and dine. Ample seating, good food and fast service

Average

By David |

The soup was bland but the wonton was a good thin wrap. I had steamed chicken and mixed vegetables. Again, average. Nothing that I "jonsed" for as it was in the refrigerator. Nothing bad, just not anything I would crave.

We were the only non Chinese customers in the restaurant so we figured it would be especially good. We were seated and waited on immediately and our food, while not terribly complicated, came out hot and fast. We enjoyed the lunch special for under $10 for each of us. We could choose spicy or not which I was grateful for. One of us chose chicken and mixed Asian veggies while the other chose broccoli in garlic sauce over white rice. The lunch menu also includes a bowl of soup, We both chose good won ton soup. If we are in Times Square area, we like to stop by Ollie's. They also have delivery and takeout service.

Tasty Sichuan Chinese food!

By Foxtrotx |

Great Sichuan Chinese food. Highly recommend!! Great lunch specials or delivery; also great for dinner (and can accommodate large groups.. pre-pandemic I would always have large groups of friends join me here). Restaurant staff keeps up high standards of cleanliness and wearing masks. There is now outdoor seating with heaters. Go here for delicious Chinese food!

Delicious meal for family of 5

By mf |

We tried this restaurant at around 15:45 on a Thursday. We loved it! Really nice chicken with broccoli, noodles soups were tasty and gigantic. Very appreciated by our teenaged boys. The filled brown rice was very good and the service really fast and kind. The only thing we did not like much were the very large dim sums. Price were ok for genereous portions . Perfect place for a Chinese meal in NYC !

Delicious sweet and sour pork!

By Ricardo B |

On our first visit to NYC, we bought food from this restaurant because it was just across from our hotel! The sweet and sour pork was delicious! We liked having the sauce separate from the pork so that we could put as much sauce as we wanted. The price for the food was reasonable and the portions were generous. Great place for take-out Chinese food!

Nice food but staff not very friendly

By cathy991 |

Went for my daughters 30th birthday , food was ok but the staff were not very nice and they struggled to smile 😩

Tasty food! Not cheap!

By billnyc555 |

Very tasty meals here, it's not like the old days in NYC where a take out meal was enough for two or three, it's very interestingly spiced but not basic. Not inexpensive at all.

Great food & location

By blumebwaybaby |

If you have tickets to a show on the block of 42nd St between 9th & 10th, head for this Sichuan restaurants. The food is always good. Even though I arrived without a reservation, the maître 'd found me a table in time to enjoy a light meal before the show.

Discrimination Against a Veteran With a Service Dog — on Memorial Day, No Less

By Jet792480 |

My boyfriend, a retired U.S. Marine, and I visited Ollie’s today but they refused to serve us on Memorial Day—simply because he had his service dog with him. The staff repeatedly demanded documentation for the dog, which does not exist and is not legally required. This is not only completely unacceptable, especially on a day meant to honor those who served—it’s a clear violation of federal and state law. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), businesses are not allowed to ask for papers or proof. They may only ask: Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? What work or task has the dog been trained to perform? Ollie’s staff ignored the law and treated a disabled veteran with suspicion and disrespect. They made an already difficult and emotional day worse with their ignorance and lack of compassion. This wasn’t a misunderstanding—it was discrimination, plain and simple. I urge Ollie’s management to train their staff on ADA compliance and issue a public apology. Until that happens, we will never return—and I hope others will think twice before supporting a business that treats our veterans this way.

I go here every time I'm in New York

By Donald v |

This is one of my favorite places to eat . The food is always fresh and delicious . Try the shrimp dumplings and the Mongolian beef. Also the wonton soup and Chinese vegetables. Truthfully I have been going here for more than 10 years and it is always great. I forgot to take pictures because I was too busy enjoying the food . Our waitress Erin (not spelled correctly because I don't speak Chinese ) was awesome!

Popular spot for lunch

By cecilyontour |

Enjoyed our meal. Good variety to choose from. Pleasant service. We are still exploring and working out the NYC Asian cuisines... deep fried large spring rolls seem to be very popular as are dry fried greens

Lunch was good, but not as many dumplings available

By Pamela H |

We have tried a few versions of Ollie’s in NYC, and this was our first time at this location. Lunch was fine, but we had expected more dumplings available. And not sure if they were not frozen before, so it was good, but not special.

Be a regular

By Kitty272727 |

We have been here countless times and know it is much better than all the other Ollie’s, some of which have closed. It is authentic because it is near the Chinese Consulate and gets a knowledgeable Chinese clientele. The soups are good, especially the hot and sour and the little-bit-of-everything. Their ma po tofu is one of the best, as is fish with black bean sauce, eggplant with garlic, etc. A separate menu page has Specials, which are mostly a little more expensive, but worth it. Most of the Asians (including me) order something from here. Service is GREAT if they know you. Otherwise it’s efficient if somewhat brusque.

Smelled good!

By Tobias K |

We were walking by Ollie's and the aromas wafting out were so irresistible that instead of going for Portuguese like we had planned, we ended up having Sichuan. The meal took some time to appear but when it did, we finished it off post haste. Chicken with broccoli and the crispy noodles were great. We also had the spare ribs which were fantastic.

Not good

By NYCleveland |

Chewy broccoli. Too sweet garlic sauce. Soggy fried tofu. Staff doesn’t care. Overpriced. Thank god the rice was good .

Average sichuan chinese

By Kris Cat |

This place has a decent ambience. Steamed dumplings were good. Cumin lamb was different from other sichuan places. I would rate it really average. Cashew chicken was good . Deserts were good . Hot sake was amazing as well . They do have drinks menu. I had tried better sichuan places.

Wonderful dinner of Cantonese Wonton Soup on a cold day

By Justin W |

I had not been to Ollie’s in years and stopped in on a cold night for dinner. I was in the mood for a bowl of the Cantonese Wonton Soup with Roast Pork, Wontons and Egg Noodles. The broth was nice and rich. I started the meal with a classic egg roll which Ollie’s makes the best. These big egg rolls are filled with shredded cabbage and chopped roast pork. Served with a nice sized portion of duck sauce makes the perfect start to a meal. The food and the service were just as good as I remembered.

Tickets at the New Group or Signature Theater Companies? Have dinner here!

By HuntleyNewYork |

We are always happy with the choices and quality of the food here. We try something new at each visit. The service can be brusque but I've learned to expect that in most good Chinese places. When Chinese members of our family (who cook amazing food themselves & have high standards) are in town, we typically go to Chinatown where they (and we) have some favorite places. But if we were in midtown with them instead, we'd take them to Ollies in a heart beat.

Authentic Chinese Food in NY City

By BarryPAleo |

Great quality food with very good prices for New York. As a frequent visitor of New York I will visit again! The service was friendly and accomodating and the food came very quickly as you'd expect for Chinese Food!

Very good and reasonably priced

By Federico M |

Food is clearly above average, better yet...very good. Portions are rather big. Full of Chinese people...so it must be good sign. Super fast service...maybe a little too fast. Typical Chinese decor...but you go there to eat good food. Were a party of five so we tasted many dishes and all of them good. We left quite happy

Great lunch

By Melissa T |

This place was near our hotel and we were starving after a long day of travel, so we popped in and I am glad we did! I had the roast duck and it was delicious!

WORST SERVICE, MOST INHOSPITABLE RESTAURANT EVER!!!

By Jaja19314 |

Let me start by saying, I have a lot of experience in the restaurant industry, and I always exercise fairness when reviewing. Ollie's has the absolute WORST customer service I have ever experienced. To start, we arrived at 9:45, post theatre, with a posted 10:30 close. The hostess asked if we could be done by 10:30, we said yes. There seemed to be a lot of commotion, but we were seated and quickly placed an order. I didn't order steamed dumplings, because they would take too long. The soup came quickly, and was (at best) luke warm. I had to call across the restaurant to get the attention of a waitress, whose body language implied I was crazy. While waiting for the soup to return, the spring rolls arrived (ironically, nice and hot). No soy sauce, no waitress attention. Soup returned. Hot this time. Right behind it were the entrees, hot. Rice, not hot. No chopsticks. No knives. Mid way through, they shut the lights off - after a significantly dirty look, and a bit of waitress screaming, they turned the lights back on. It was about 10:10. The entire time, the waitresses ignored us, were cleaning and even putting on their coats. I'm surprised they didn't bring out a bucket and mop the floor. About 10:20, they told us to take our time. Gee, thanks. After all the hurry up and inhospitable reception. Big deal. NEVER EVER EVER support this restaurant. The food was reasonably good, not great. If desperate, consider take out, but you might have to heat it in the microwave, and why support a business that clearly disrespects the customer. After I told the waitress what I thought of their treatment of the client, she tried to make excuses and tell my husband that they were being told to do that. I don't buy it - there were at least 5 waitresses running around the restaurant. There was a lot of heated discussion in their foreign language...pretty sure they were upset that they got no tip - something I have NEVER done before. Shame on the owners if they told their staff to do this. If you don't want to take care of customers at 9:45 pm - close at 9:30. If you don't respect the customers - find another occupation.

No food poisoning here

By Andrew K |

Perhaps some other reviewers' stomachs were not accustomed to New York Sichuan food? One recent Sunday afternoon, after a great nearby theater matinee, and with my own stomach feeling uneasy, I longed for a starchy, but tasty, early dinner. Hot sake ($9.95) was a good start, followed by excellent, fluffy Scallion Pancakes ($7.75) -- they're often leaden, elsewhere, but not here. Then Chow Fun Noodles with Baby Shrimp ($12.50) and Scallops with Garlic Sauce ($19.95) really hit the spot, both for me and my wife. Service was fine -- and also friendly. We'll come back.

Rude owner - lie about hours.

By tworthyreviewer |

Walk in at 10.09p, restaurant closes at 10.30. Owner says you MUST take out. I say so your hours aren’t till 10.30, owner says hours are whatever I want. Will not return and my suspicion is others must have experienced this off the chart attitude and rudeness. Seldom if ever give 1 star, but this one is well deserved.

Reliable Sichuan

By Ray Q |

The housemade dumplings are always are a good start, and anything else on the menu is served in super-fast time, and you get big portions at cheap (by New York City standards) prices. This is one of my go-to places near Times Square for a tasty fill-up before any Broadway show. Casual, quick, delicious.

Good for a fast meal

By smookToronto |

We are spending a week in New York and tried this restaurant on the first night. Service was very fast and food was good. Good variety so lots to choose from. After the order the food came very fast. We tried the low mein and the Sichuan chicken. Both were very nice for a reasonable price.

Best Chinese food I've had in years!

By Toritwo |

In Manhattan for business. My coworkers are Chinese-American. I recommended this place as it was right near our hotel and I had been years & years ago. You know a Chinese restaurant is great if it's packed with Asian people! This place is! We were beyond happy with the food! We'd all been dying for genuine pork buns. They are the real deal here! Egg rolls huge! Scallion pancakes outstanding! We all had different soup and noodle dishes. Duck, Soy chicken, Pork, Everything. All absolutely delicious! The prices, for Manhattan by the Theater District, can't be beat! This is a long standing restaurant that lives up to the hype!

The best....!

By Eepu |

What a tasty Chinese restaurant!! Great potstickers!! My kids don't usually eat the BBQ ribs but they loved it. If you are a fan of spicy food, you can certainly request your dish to be spicier. I did for my Hunan beef and I'm already craving it!! So yummy!

Lunchtime special delicious!

By Karen L |

Excellent choices on the lunchtime special. Delicious authentic Chinese food. The whole family enjoyed it! We had kung pow chicken, spicy fish with beans and sweet and sour chicken. The wonton / hot and sour soup as starter was welcoming on a very cold afternoon walk.

Party of 14 for dinner

By Joan L |

They sat us at a round table which was great. Crowded and busy as to be expected, but the food was very good. Will be returning soon. Soup dumplings not as good as Mott Street. Noodle soup disappointing, but the main dishes were all tasty.

Food Wasn't Good

By Thomas V |

Well it's popular and the $8.95 lunch special is cheap, but the food wasn't good quality, and certainly not the spicy goodness that we expect from Sichuan style. The service was worse, curt and rude, just plain mean. We only ate about 50% of our food since it makes no sense to eat bad food, even if you're hungry.

Really? You want us to leave?

By writa1 |

We had a reasonably expensive meal at the restaurant. We ordered four drinks, four appetizers and four main courses. We were very surprised to have the manager come over and tell us we had to leave because he needed the table. I have never had that happen before. It is a disgrace!!!

Best Mei Fun ever

By caddiet |

We spotted this coming out of a play and took a shot. It was really good. Busy but not so much as to be unpleasant. Many Asians of differing ehtnicites eating there. I had the Mei Fun Triple something with shrimp, pork and beef. Excellent. My wife had a more vegetable oriented dish which was alos very good. Portions were quite large. So much that we took some back to our hotel.

Excellent Service / Excellent Food

By GeorgeH-LI_NY-ExPat |

We started with an appetizer of Fried Pork Dumplings which were excellent. We all shared the entrees of Beef w/ Snow Peas, General Tso Chicken, and The Sesame Prawns. We also had a side order of Pork Fried Rice. Everything was very good and the service was also excellent. We definitely will go back again.

Went for lunch and it was good. Near Times Square.

By MmonetTN |

We went for lunch. Had a Mongolian beef and an orange chicken. the eggroll was the best part. HUGE and good tasting. The spring roll was also very good. Almost too hot to eat. The wait staff was not too attentive though. THe hot and sour soup was good, not excellent but hot. The temperature of the main dishes could have been hotter. Nice atmosphere. The price was low though which was a plus

Very Good Luncheon Specials

By David C |

Very reasonable luncheon specials right in Manhattan! Food was very good and the service was quick. Good choice for a pre-theatre lunch before a matinee!

Delicious meal

By RPCS |

The fried dumplings and moo shu pork (served with sauce and... Asian tortillas) were great. We had a side of dry sautéed green beans which were tasty. The sautéed udon noodles were nice too. We were not big fans of the Sichuan Stir-fry ginger chicken... it had quite a few bones in it which made it difficult to eat (it’s never classy to have to spit out bone fragments, haha), but I was just hanging out with a friend so that was okay. I would avoid that ginger chicken dish, though, for that reason. Great experience overall. The wait staff was always attentive. Now, I’ve had some awesome Sichuan in Edmond, Oklahoma, believe it or not... and in Oklahoma, the prices were much MUCH lower... and the quality just as good, if not better. Ollie’s was pricey, but... this is NYC, I wasn’t shocked. I’d recommend it, and I’ll probably be back next time I’m in town for a show. I made a reservation a few hours before we arrived, via their website, and received a confirmation email pretty quickly... this was super helpful!

Authentic Chinese Food

By grnw4 |

Each time we visit NYC, Ollie's is a must. The food is fresh, delicious, and hot. It is a bustling place, but worth the short wait. It is not fancy or expensive, It is just plain good!11

Evening meal with family

By Caroline186402 |

We came here for an evening meal and weren’t disappointed - we ordered 7 mains and some rice and paid $133 including service charge. Food was really tasty and service was quick.

Great Find for Cantonese Food

By DaveJacqM |

Found this place on our 15th visit to NYC.... wish we'd found it earlier. We had a very enjoyable and tasty selection of western style Chinese food here. The menu choice is extensive, the food was excellent, service was great and the prices more than reasonable for NYC. Definitely one on our list for next time.

Excellent

By Lulu69 |

This is a must if you are visiting New York, we had a sit down meal here and had a takeaway, both meals were excellent, I have to say it’s the best Chinese I’ve ever ate , staff were all wonderful, clean restaurant, just perfect

No frills

By ThinkPink |

Firstly- don't come here expecting any frills. It really is just a case of walk in- get seated- get served and go. Food is okay (for the price it's quite good as it's cheap) $40 for two drinks, two rice, two main dishes, tax and tip. Not bad. Secondly- the staff won't give you the time of day- one actually nudged my mum on the shoulder to hurry her up with her order. Also, on the way out all the staff were sat around the table having their tea (restaurant busy). They also do take away which seemed really busy with the driver coming in and out. All in all it was okay- wouldn't go again but it served its purpose as a quick cheap meal

Average food

By LisaMNUSA |

We walked in on a Thursday before 5pm, we were the only customer there. The cold beef dish was tasty, but very salty. The fish dish with mushrooms didn’t have much taste. The waiter was very nice.

never go this place

By wayne |

I went to New York today for a business trip. I went to Ollie's Sichuan because I parked nearby. I ordered two taking-out's, Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce and Pork with Peking Sauce, so we could our lunch on our way back to Delaware. However, when we tried to have these foods, they turned out the pork were spoiled. Never ever go to this place! 今天到纽约总领馆办事,11点多办完事后,就到停车场附近的成都印象要了两份外卖(鱼香肉丝和京酱肉丝)准备晚些时候在高速休息处吃午餐。当我们吃这些食物时,发现猪肉有臭味。

Amazing food

By Colin A |

This was a chance find while walking down 42nd Street. The country-style tofu and baby eggplant (or aubergine to we Brits) in garlic sauce were amazing. Service was fast and pleasant. My friend was equally pleased with his meal.

Tounge Ticklers. True Taste !

By TravelJunkieHP |

"Chinese Food" -If you get the picture of a take out place, cheap white boxes and plastic forks... then you can skip this place. Ollie is a very nice restaurant with an authentic approach to more southern Chinese food. The hot and sour soup is one of the best ones in recent times that I had tried. Mind it Southern Chinese food can be very spicy. Ofcourse other options are also available for non spicy lovers. ► The menu offers several traditional Cantonese options. Definitely try those. Compared to many other Asian restaurants, I would say the service was very good. Attentive and amicable. Actually I had requested the food to be faster since we were running late to to a theater show. They were really acoomodative and brought he food out for us quickly ! If you are around, Go try the authentic tastes of Cantonese food ! I rate food based of the 3 criteria... ►Taste - Very Good ►Technique - Very Good ►Presentation - Good ►Ambiance - Very Good ► Service - Very Good

a quick and early dinner-delicious!

By ianshamshey |

I stopped by Ollie's to have a quick bite since I was meeting friends later for drinks but they would have already eaten. I was seated right away and a menu appeared. This time I ordered the jumbo shrimp dish with cashews and brown rice. It was delicious. In the past, I had ordered a shrimp and chicken dish with cashews but I did not see this on the menu this time. I finished my meal, the check came, I paid it and left. It is a fairly large place with seating as you enter and more seating towards the back. No sooner are you seated and order does your food arrive. Tea also arrives as you sit down. It is great for groups and families and I have always seen native Chinese people ordering so the food has to be good. I would recommend and return.

Deliciousness for Theater Goers

By Devorah33851 |

If you're looking for excellent Chinese food in the heart of the theater district, walk over to Ollie's on 42nd Street and 9th Avenue. The extensive menu includes scrumptious Cantonese and Sichuan preparations. The scallion pancakes are better than any we've ever tasted, the chicken in orange sauce is highly recommended.

Still Great Food

By RioVistaMomma |

Last time we ate at Ollie's was in the 90's when they were in a different location. The "new" location is nice and the food is as good as we remembered it. We had a party of 8 people and I made a reservation for lunch - they were able to accommodate us. Our lunch was a reunion with friends - the restaurant was nice about us staying longer to talk. The prices are reasonable and the service was attentive and gracious.

Excellent food experience

By Emesge27 |

Recommended by the concierge at our hotel over other places we had researched on various travel sites including TripAdvisor. We knew we were in the right place upon arrival as the dining room was filled with traveling Asian business people and locals. Selection is immense and covers many Chinese regional cuisines and an extensive dim sum. Servings were generous but not ponderous. Our server actually recommended we order fewer dishes than we initially chose! Food was delicious - well prepared, nicely presented and fresh! Some might consider service slow but I disagree. You need only raise your head inquisitively or raise a hand and someone appears.

Best Chinese Food in Thetaer District?

By Anbrugo |

This very busy, popular restaurant serves up some very good food. Our party of 4 shared several dishes dishes from Chow Fun to Bok Choy & Mushrooms. Everything was delicious. I observed some very good looking large specialty soups at nearby tables. The prices were mid-range; the staff friendly and helpful, and definitely a place to come back to in the future.

Not worth the hassle.........

By charlotte r |

Stopped in after the Harbor Lights tour at nearby Pier 83. We had been looking for good Chinese food, came across this place, the ratings on Tripadvisor were good, so we decided to take a chance. Hostess and waitress were not overly friendly, but if the food is good, what the heck! My son and husband ordered soup, and the 3 of us ordered entree's. Food was marginal, we never did get our soup. The table was cleared before we could even think about asking for a 'to-go' box. Consequently, my husband tipped 10%. Because they forgot our soup and didn't even ask if we wanted to take along the leftovers, he felt that was fair. They sure DIDN"T!!! As we were gathering our things, the waitress came over to collect the ticket, she immediately went to the tip amount. Needless to say she was NOT happy when she realized it was only 10% and not the recommended 15-20%. She started freaking out on my husband, at that point 2 of her co-workers came over and all 3 of them were freaking out in Chinese. Crazy scene. Back at the hotel we looked up other Tripadvisor reviews, our experience was not unique, there were others that had experienced the same thing!! Do not recommend at all!!!!!

Had high hopes but sadly disappointing.

By NYC CowGirl |

Upon entering this location of Ollie's, it is easy to see that location does matter. Not greeted with a friendly welcome or good evening. Just seated. All the diners were lively and festive at 9pm. Once viewing the tables more closely, two had returned items. My companion and I decided to stay but order simple. The eggroll was first served cold. Terrible start. Had to send it back. The BBQ ribs were hot and very good. Shrimp in lobster sauce was bland and served with canned peas and carrots. The bathroom was filthy. If you are in the theater district and have an opportunity to dine elsewhere, DO!

Great address for asian food just a stone'sthrow away from.Time's Square .

By Mobile04795016257 |

Good food if you like asian flavours, reasonable prices. Great value for money. Really friendly staff. So good we went twice for diinner and once for lunch! Away from the crowds of tourists who flock to Times square ! A good address. Try "a little bit of everything soup"

It's a bit of Chinatown without having to trek downtown.

By Rebecca P |

The food is quite good, better than your average takeout/delivery. We had the crispy fish which was yummy except since it was a whole fish, you can expect a ton of bones. The roast duck was very good. The service is also good - no complaints. They were attentive and the food arrived hot and fresh. I'm sure I will be back when I am in the area and hankering for good Chinese food again.

Satisfying late-night Chinese food

By dustythoughts |

This place had really satisfying late-night food. I had the chicken with eggplant, which had a pleasant kick to it, and they had a two-for-one special on the dumplings (which were delicious). This place isn't fancy or trying to reinvent the wheel, but there are a lot of options on the menu and the food's good.

Always excellent

By CNY38a |

Great food and fast service. I have eaten here many times and its always good. Décor is a bit worn but the food and people are great.

Authentic Chinese in Hell's Kitchen

By Michael Y |

Ollie's is in a unique location, the ground floor of a 30 floor apartment building. The interior is nice (some awkwardness... A lone table at the bottom of some stairs in between the server station and the kitchen, but the food was delicious. I highly recommend the pork soup dumplings.

NOT OLD OLLIE"S

By FoodieChefDina |

Something has changed, it's not like the old Ollie's I used to know.....yet it's still good sichuan Chinese food. It used to be superb, I feel it's more comercial now. Great soup dumplings, General Tso chicken and Singapore noodles.Still gets full. Service is fast, the place is clean.

Excellent for vegetarians

By Traceylou |

Nice and busy but only a short wait for a table. Had baby aubergines off the veggie menu which were particularly excellent. Nice atmosphere And good service.

Welcome dinner

By springchicken67 |

Having the restaurant recommended by Don on the Big Bus tour we weren’t disappointed. We were tired and feeling jet lagged so went for an early dinner before we went back to our hotel. Lemon chicken and shreddd chilli beef were delicious with white rice washed down with jasmine tea. Pleasantly full we paid our reasonable bill so we left a tip. Would be happy to recommend although seats by the window were drafty.

Spacious , friendly staff, good standard

By martina m |

We didn't clarify the menu, a lot of dishes, maybe too many. Good compared to the average of chinaese, prices not high, portions very abundant so do not overdo it with orders

Why I didn't like this apparently popular place

By Dilemo |

The menu has a useful chili symbol to show how spicy some dishes are (three chilies means you need to order another beer to douse the flames, in theory). I was excited at the prospect of a Chinese meal, but I searched the menu for inspiration... in vain. Being fond of seafood, I contemplated prawns in garlic sauce but finally chose Triple Seafood Delight with Sizzling Rice, if only to discover how rice sizzles. Well, it doesn't. In fact the rice element of the dish - which was the principal ingredient - were white, square, rice biscuits which I disliked intensely. As if that were not enough, the dish was accompanied by the standard bowl of brown rice. I hunted through the remainder of the dish to find the three seafood elements and discovered a couple of prawns, a couple of scallops and some long, white tubular objects which I could not identify with any certainty and which decidedly failed to stir my salivary glands. The best part of the dish were some quite tasty greens. In fact, vegetables seemed to be the one redeeming feature of the meal since my partner had some very palatable eggplant. My friends, however, had a cold "appetizer" with noodles which I sampled, only to wish that I had not - I had the impression that I knew what it must be like to eat raw earthworms. The things which I enjoyed had bypassed the cook: beer out of a bottle and lychees out of a tin. And food came to the table soon after being ordered. My friends commented that they were surprised that the spicy dishes were relatively bland. The check - $150 for 4 diners - was not.

Good Quality Food

By BostonNix |

This place is the real deal with genuine Sichuan food. The service is efficient but surly. Our waiter made a point of ignoring us for almost 10 mins when we arrived and then acted like he was doing us a favor to take our order. Various servers almost threw the food at us as it was ready. But the food is very good and authentic, so go for that and not the service.

Oh, Ollie!

By Betsy Ann L |

I went here with a group of business partners as a reccommendation from one of them, who is originally from China. Be advised: you have to make reservations ahead of time, as this place is always packed. The food is exquisite, the service is fast and friendly, and the whole experience was splendid. My favorite was the pork belly served cold. Yes, cold, but the flavor and texture is so good that you just can't stop eating it.

Tasty chinese food, large portions.

By Alan H |

Stopped in on a freezing Saturday evening in October after our "Twilight Harbor Cruise". Family of five, seated after a five minute wait. Typical szechuan menu, we ordered all our favourites including Singapore noodles, lemon chicken, beef satay etc. All came quickly and were very tasty, and pretty generous portions too. Tea provided, service was typically efficient in such places, and also typically brisk (ie not your usual USA "friendly" servers), but that suits us fine. Prices are ok for the area, about $17 for main dishes if I recall. Would go again.

Always good to go back

By Alain D |

Again this year we have been there with our team and again we decided that next year we will go again. The food is good, service ok and it is just nice to go and enjoy the food

Tasty food

The food was tasty and plenty of food. Waiters were friendly and efficient. Great location and nice atmosphere.

Worst ribs ever!

By Joan F |

We were served blackened dried out ribs.Didn't the server notice? We had to get up and search for her! Never again!!!

Excellent food

By julianamurata |

Food was great with a very friendly price. We went on a Friday night, and it didn’t take too long for a table. The Wonton Soup with roast duck was amazing.

Authentic

By hungrycurry |

Stumbled to this place by chance and thoroughly enjoyed It reminded me of my favourite place in China town ,London uk Er mie Place is little old and need refurbishment Ambiance is dull But all we want is good food and one can have it here

5 strikes and they’re out

By HuntleyNewYork |

First off, they brought us the wrong dumplings. Then they served our next course to the wrong table. THEN they were moving a dividing screen and it actually FELL ON OUR TABLE. Then they sent us home with the wrong soup. And then, to top it all off, they packed our leftovers so they spilled all over the inside of the bag. We have been there MANY times. Not sure we will ever be back. What happened? New owners? A thoroughly frustrating meal there to say the least!!!

Great food, mediocre service

By ericreiss |

I was invited by a conference organizer to attend a “farewell dinner” at Ollie’s. Things started badly as we had a reservation for eight, but initially we were only five. The restaurant staff was, to put it nicely, “difficult.” Only when the rest of the guests arrived, including a colleague from Shanghai, did things get better, service-wise. Let me tell you, you may get great service or lousy service, but whatever the case, this is some of the best spicy Sichuan food I have ever had! (Of course, it probably helped that my Chinese friend got them to serve some “off the menu” items including something she called “Chinese bacon” and an amazing array of dumplings.) As background, I should mention that I love Hunan and Sichuan food and I’m a pretty good cook myself (l learned from the late, great Henry Chung in San Francisco). Therefore, I hold Chinese restaurants to a very high standard. And Ollie’s is now at the very top of my list of best restaurants!

Horrible

Such bad food they shouldn't be in business. Wonton soup tasted like bean sprouts only. Huh? The two main courses we received were not pleasant to eat. The worst food I've had in years. How can someone open a restaurant if they can't make good food? Where's the motivation? Do not even consider going here. Yuch!

Delicious Sichuan and Cantonese Dishes!

Ollie’s is in close proximity to the Theatre District, but a little bit out of the chaos. Stopped in after an off Broadway show around 4:45 p.m. and were seated right away. By the time we had finished, every table was filled. Excellent fresh and tasty food, large portions, and reasonable prices. Good service and pleasant ambiance. Highly recommend!

Nice food

Food menu is enormous so much to choose from, and it's very tasty. The restaurant itself is in need of a refurbishment, looking shabby .

Bountiful and Delicious Lunch Specials

We stopped by Ollie's for a late lunch, on a whim one day, because it was filled with diners at 2:30 on a Wednesday afternoon. The lunch special was affordable and delicious. We had choice of soups, plus rice and a main dish. It was so good we came back 2 days later for another delicious lunch. We tried the chicken stir-fry with satay sauce, broccoli with chili and garlic, kung pao chicken, and the chicken lo mein (not on the lunch specials, but really yummy). Hot and sour, miso and wonton soups were all good. Service is quick and friendly, and everything is cooked to order, so nice an fresh. If you ask for spicy, you will get spicy, which we appreciate very much. The restaurant has tables for two and 4, and some big ones, where families were happily enjoying their meals. This is a good place!

Much better than expected

Wife and I stopped in for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon and were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was as well as really cheap. It was busy and pretty noisy, maybe not a great spot for a first date, but if you're hungry and you want to eat real food and you don't want to pay a fortune make sure you hit this joint. The service was fast and No Nonsense. Wife ordered pickled cabbage sliced pork soup which was fantastic.

Very good lunch

Go To Place

NYC has great authentic Chinese food and great Americanized Chinese food. Oliies is my choice for Chinese food in the City because its good at both. We went recently with a party of six and we all were happy with what we ordered. My wife and I had barbequed spare ribs, hot and sour soup, ha gaw shrimp dumplings, chicken with garlic sauce, and chinese broccoli. No disappointments. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. For all the times we've been here, this was by far the least crowded we've seen it, but then it still doesnt seem like anyplace is that busy, and many remained closed. Hope Ollies hangs in there!

Great food.

My wife and I really enjoyed our food. We shared a pan fried chicken dumplings to start which were delicious The Mongolian Beef was a highlight for me and the missus loved her sweet & sour chicken. For us the downside was the expense , with a tip it came to £100 , which for us from the UK is very expensive for a basic meal for two.
