Don’t pass this one by….

By Giveahoot |

If you’re in your way to Little Italy don’t pass up Onieals just because it doesn’t sound Italian. It’s an invitingly warm atmosphere with genuinely friendly and professional servers. Our meals were terrific and the blueberry cobbler for dessert was out of this world.

Great dinner

By Kristin S |

We popped in here on a busy Saturday night with our 6 year old daughter after a day of sight seeing. The staff were able to accommodate us quickly and we had great meals. My daughter and I shared the steak frites, highly recommend! My husband had a burger, and it was very good as well. We finished the dinner with bread pudding. It was busy when we were there, but our service was still pretty good. We would definitely recommend.

Onieals

By Gingerdel |

Great atmosphere and food really nice. Had the penne alle vodka which was delicious. The only negative would be that the place was really draughty and cold which meant that as wellas us feeling cold, the food went cold very quickly. Staff were very friendly.

Great spot

By lauramoten |

Great bar, cocktails were good and reasonable price for NY. We ate outside and loved watching the world go by. Food was nice and the service was excellent. Def recommend.

Good choice!

By SuperSnorkeler |

We stayed at NobleDen a few blocks away and stopped for dinner one evening. The food was very good and reasonable, for NYC prices. Very cozy front dining room (but small - make a reservation) and a bar area renowned for mimosas and other cocktails. There is dark woodwork and warm classic decor - well-suited for cold weather when you can't eat outside anyway. Service was fine. Definitely worth a visit!

After Feast

Clean, loungy place the lights were dim the music was loud &hit was a mix of hits Drinks were good fast service, they had security by the door which was nice to see on such a busy nite actually meet a few couples from Nyc - European countries this nice bar brings people together It's just comfy: Only con -- bathrooms we're very messy & unkept for a ladies room it should be taken care of every hour...

Great

By Lee_in_Wokingham |

Ambiance very nice, good food, good service and prices good (for NY). Wasn't too busy either. I would recommend and go back again. Beats much of the overpriced pizza/pasta touted around the corner in Little Italy. Do yourself a favour and go here instead.

Great late night stop off

By JDS339 |

After a great evening in Little Italy at the end of the San Genaro festival, we called in here for a few bottles of wine. Great wine, great service and we thoroughly enjoyed. Wine wasn't cheap but good quality and service was superb, especially given how long a day it had been for everyone.

Good service, poor food

Hidden gem

By mac070668 |

As an Englishman in NY, I think I have found a home from home. Forget all other pubs in New York, this place has it covered. The food is outstanding and the selection of drinks is second to none. My wife and I popped in for a drink to get out of the cold but the staff were so welcoming that we stayed for hours. We were so impressed that we went back the next day and the welcome and service was even better. Give this place a go. Great atmosphere, great drinks, great good and service that makes you feel as though you have been a regular for years. Next time we stay in NY, we're gonna stay in Soho to be near this place.

Honey-butter served with the bread was a hit

By mghoti53 |

Two of us ate at Onieal's on 06Oct2015(Tuesday) based on read reviews. The door and windows were all propped open so we chose "indoors". Our 6pm reservation was unnecessary as only a few of the outdoor tables were occupied. Our server was very attentive -- no competition! She delivered a complementary hors d'oeuvre from the chef. Our seafood and pasta dishes were fine but the honey-butter served with the bread was a hit.

Nice

By DW0701 |

Very nice inside, good ambience. The drinks were nice but liquors are pricey which we discovered when we got our bill (to be expected in NYC). The restaurant is also nice but small so would recommend booking on busier days (weekend etc). The food was nice but limited option for vegetarians which is a little disappointing. The service was fast considering we were a group of 8 and we also got free appetisers before our main meal which was nice. Food is reasonably priced and the staff are nice and friendly.

Very nice place

By Gwenn F |

French tourists in NY, staying in a hotel in Chinatown, we found this lovely place tonight for a dinner. We were very pleased with the place, very classy but with very reasonnable quality food. Staff is very friendly as well. Good place we recommend.

Hidden Gem Brunch

By Courtney H |

Had a great brunch with a friend yesterday. We walked in and were the only ones in the restaurant and was initially skeptical. It was fantastic! Service was great and food always even better! Will definitely be back!

Tripadvisor app saved our day

By TO_TRAVELLERS_8 |

Started to get hungry after a long walk down broadway and we needed a nice place for our last day. Checked the tripadvisor app on the iPod. Oneial's was close by and had good ratings so decided to try it. Thought it might be full becuase of the ratings. We were very happily surprised! seated right away. We all had different meals and no one was disappointed. wide selection of food. They have multiple menus so make sure you look at all of them to get what appeals to you. Dinner menu is diverse, Bar menu offers some lighter fare (but good quality) and don't forget the drink menu!

Great Find

By R M C |

Such a terrific place. We've been there 3 times in the last 4 months. It happens to be close to where we stay lately in Manhattan. Whoever hires the staff should be commended because every one of them is a wonderful combination of charming, friendly and professional. The menu has a nice array of conventional items, some with a bit of a twist, never anything strange. The preparation is always above expectations. I guess I keep thinking it's going to be pub grub because of the appearance outside. In fact, inside it is beautiful intricate paneling and lace curtains, about as feminine and chic as wood paneling can be. Desserts are consistently excellent as well. Most importantly, even when it seems crowded, mostly the crowd is there for the bar. We've never had to wait for a table. Open Table can solve that anyway!

Good brews; Great atmosphere!

By CSB |

A pleasant find in the Little Italy area of NYC; reasonably priced drinks, comfortable seating, and full of handsome and attractive people!

Unprofessional

By Maps625862 |

would give a 0 if I could. But I booked a reservation for 9:00 pm. They told me that there was no reservation and that they don’t book after 7:00 pm. I have a confirmation email and then they threw their hands in the air and said “Sorry Bro”. I called multiple times and you can’t even get them on the phone. I would never recommend them to anyone don’t waste ur time with such unprofessional behavior.

a quick stop

By MonieB |

Walking around in the snow between chinatown and little italy, we needed to stop. We were lucky. great vibe, service, brew and wine. The music was pretty cool too. Cant give 5 stars because we did nit eat. Too full from the Excellent Dumpling house.. Check out both

Great place, great food, great staff..

By garethandlisa |

Booked this place off the back of reviews on here. It was fantastic and the food was just superb. I think i had the best lamb i`ve ever tasted and two more people on our table said it was the best steak they had ever had.. Three big statements !! Lovely little place in Little Italy so not particularly on the tourist routes. Nice beer with a good selection of different ales. Our meal was $450 for a party of six which we thought was great value..

a special place

This place is really unique. Great floors, ceiling, atmosphere and great draft beers. Would def come here again

Great Food and Service

I can not say enough about this place. The food and presentation were excellent. Also was the service. Not rushed

Great Evening

By David G |

Family of four (kids 18 and 21) visited on a Wednesday evening for some drinks followed by dinner. Very enjoyable evening with great atmosphere, good food, excellent service etc. They have a very nice combination of bar / dining room which works very well. Will try to return when next in New York.

Amazing food

By ssimsonaite |

I went to eat there for the first time. It was amazing food. I had the salmon with the Brussels and carrots in a champagne sauce, my friend had chicken, my meal was definitely better. The vibe was nice. The waitresses were young and very nice, people felt at home. Great place, I am dreaming of the fish.

Remains one of my favorite NYC bars.

By Chris H |

Onieal’s used to be my regular spot a decade ago, went there 2-3 times a week when I was working temporarily in the city. Denny and Samantha were the regular bartenders and always made me feel welcome. I went back after about 3 years and Denny remembered me, amazing! Their food was great and the atmosphere relaxed and friendly. I am glad to see they are still getting 5 star reviews. Well done!

One of the most fun nights we had in New York

By JoeyJoeJoeJuniorShaB |

Popped in with my wife for one of the famous Cosmopolitans and it turned it about 10 and fabulous evening. Anke and Rebecca are fabulous hosts and we had a great time. Very good beer selection fair prices for new york and a great atmosphere what more could you want??

Lame service and overall bad

By MABM917 |

I came here with some family for a drink and something light on a Sunday afternoon. Our server was dumb as a box of rocks though very attractive and scantily clad. Every time we asked for something, she said: I have to go check...and then she came back with a response that was not favorable. I used to come here a long time ago pre SATC days. It was a better place and a neighborhood bar. Those days are over. Yuck.

Thursdays

By Aashna25 |

On Thursdays, they play 90's music. The food is mediocre, but the drinks and the service are great. The place has a great atmosphere as well. Look up at the ceiling. It's beautiful.

You can do better

By Frank C |

Two families meet for a NYC dinner every year and picked Onieal’s this year. You can do better. Your wait staff was very good. Your drinks very pricey. Some of your dishes good. The chicken Parmesan was 90% bread, cheese and sauce. The chicken paper thin. At $24 that’s just wrong. The meatballs also poorly received. You’re in a great location. You have a great bar and a limited menu. Can we get simple fare like the chicken parm and the meatballs right? Especially half block away from Little Italy.

Nice drinks

By t0eplitz |

Dropped by with my wife for drinks. I've been before (a few years ago) for food (brunch and dinner), and it was quite nice then, too. Great atmosphere in a good location. I hear the bar is also a location from Sex and the City. Neat find... off the beaten bath enough to be interesting.

Lovely

By Krissyjc |

Relaxed and really nice little hidden gem in the area. Drinks were really good and I will be back! Would recommend the bee's knee's drink.

Dropped in to get of the rain...

By ELove1 |

And how lucky we were. Nice little restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. Servers were really friendly and helpful. Would go again.

Hidden on a corner

By edel27215 |

We tried this restaurant after seeing it after eating in Little Italy the night before and looking it up on tripadvisor. It was more of a bar atmosphere, but the food was great. Would recommend this to a younger crowd.

You MUST visit!!

By Andy1976WestMidlands |

We discovered this bar as part of tour, where we only had drinks, and decided to revisit it as we saw the food being brought out on the visit. All I can say is that my wife and I thouroughly enjoyed the whole experience, the staff were attentive but chilled out, which for New York City is a rare find. The ambiance was perfect , not to loud you couldn't hear yourselves speak, but not too quiet that you had to whisper so not everyone could hear your conversation. The decor is amazng, all carved wood panelling on walls and ceilings. The bar was busy but well managed and we didn't wait long after we left the dining area for drinks. The restrooms were very clean and the whole place was comfortable and unrushed. A great place to eat and drink. Tip, For fans of Sex and the City, see if you recognise this place

Great place for drinks

By dgfvsxz |

I actually live nearby but for some reason never made it in until now. The restaurant seems a little out of place within the context of its location. Still, when you walk in, it's dimly lit and the bar offers fantastic cocktails. I can't speak for the food menu, although we did have desserts at the bar and they were quite good. The drinks were even better. Must meet for drinks there more often.

Worse experience ever....!!!

By Steve B |

We came here as part of a group for a pre-wedding party. Arrived at 8, order taken at 8:45, 10:20 and only one course served... Kids had pizza's that were inedible, asked for a burger for my youngest son as he was hungry - explained to the manager that I wanted it well done - it came out raw....! They seemed to think I was being unreasonable because I was complaining at having waited almost 2 hours for food, my kids having pizza that was not fit to give a dog, and then a raw burger for my 9 year old... Would not come here again if I was dying of hunger and this was the only place open...!!

To try, great dishes and very kind guys

By danielaronza |

Very friendly local, friendly staff, we were also offered a beer. Excellent burgers, well assembled, excellent meat. Great beers (especially IPAs). Proper bill. Recommended.

Perfect dinner

By FalcoPeregrinator |

Visiting from out of town and staying at a hotel nearby, we were considering other NYC restaurants before the snow socked us in. But we'd passed Onieals on our block earlier in the day and the concierge highly recommended it. We slogged our way over in the sleet and snow and stepped into a cozy candlelit haven. Gorgeous wood paneling, attentive service, a bar one cold easily visit on a daily basis. I had the Sunflower cocktail, which was delicious. We shared oysters and deviled eggs. I had the sea bass special (in a lightly spiced coconut broth). Family got NY strip hanger steak and declared it perfect. Lovely presentation. Hearty portions. Topped off with creamy creme brûlée and chocolate cake. All perfect.

Great atmosphere & food

By Henri_IV |

Had no idea of where to go for dinner and get away from crowded Midtown restaurants. Place was cozy and beautifully decorated and we were seated in a comfortable table right by the window. We were a party of 5 with various tastes and needs. Menu was varied and responded to all of our tastes. Service was sharp and subtle. Waiter was attentive to our needs while not being omnipresent. Dishes were tarty and generous. We had a great time at Onieal's and it was one of our best surprises during our trip ito NY.

Lunch? Dinner? Drinks? Stop here!

By Cully24 |

Four of us dropped in by chance, looking for a late lunch and a drink. We not only had a wonderful lunch, but my buddy and I were so taken by the bar ambience... okay, and the bourbon and rye selection... that we spent the rest of the afternoon here while our wives shopped in SOHO. Good food, very friendly and talented wait staff and bartenders, located right where SOHO gives way to Little Italy. Seek this place out... you'll be glad you did!

Menu is better than food, skip this and head into Little Italy

By Barnista |

Highlights: drinks expertly made, calamari super fresh and flash fried, in house pretzel with a bazinger of a mustard sauce. Super cute and comfy. Negatives: like many restaurants in the area, it’s more open door and fans than air conditioning. Ordered a branded zoodle dish that was more soggy kale than zoodles-5 strand. Green Machine salad was anything but balanced-said sauted brussel sprouts which were anything but. They were boiled, soggy, partially drained and definitely not seared in any context-would have been better raw and shaved. The salad had nothing to it, no acid, no sweet, dry chicken on top didnt add to it and the dressing made it less noticeable, especially for $22. Penne pasta is more arriba than vodka. Millenial waitress was less than impressive and could have cared less that we stopped in. Eye rolls when a drink was wrong and we didn’t send any food back or run her. Skip this and continue into Little Italy. Huge mistake for a $200 tab!!!

Quiet Tuesday night on the terrace

By Kirk R |

We came because it was recommended by our hotel as a dog friendly spot. But this place is worth treating yourself too even if you are not fortunate enough to be accompanied by your trusty pooch. Good food, fresh and original, with polite and efficient service- only the dessert still awaits us!

Great spot

By Kelly W |

I chose this bar for lunch with my mom on her birthday since it was seen in Sex and the City. We arrived earlier than opening time for lunch but the bartender greeted us and allowed us to have a seat to stay warm while they finished getting ready for their lunch business. We were treated wonderfully and engaged in conversation with all the staff. They surprised my mom with a lovely dessert and made her birthday special. We stayed for almost 2 hours because we were having so much fun. We had sandwiches for lunch and were pleased with the quality and taste. I will return on my next trip and recommend it to die hard SATC fans and others looking for a nice casual place to hang out with friends and grab a delicious bite.

Expected more

By tt254 |

I was really looking forward to eating here on the first evening of my first trip to nyc. The bar is beautifully decorated but it was dark and FREEZING in the bar and restaurant part!! We moved tables twice to avoid the wind and cold that was blowing through the doors. We asked to be moved to the corners from either of the doors but as we were a group of 3 and this table was set for 5 the would not allow it. The food wasn't great either. The blood From my well done burger had soaked thought the bun so its probably better that it was too dark to see. I wished I could've stayed longer here but having to eat my dinner with my coat on was just a wee bit uncomfortable! Would like to visit this bar in summer!!

Wow

By 02840 |

Sure it has the Sex and the City thing going for it, but this is just a solid food and drinking establishment. Tuck in and enjoy the ride, Hoboken is even better!

Great place for a drink

By Docmatt |

We stopped here as part of the sex and the city tour, we had margaritas and I propped up the same bar that was used on set. Great staff and a great part of the tour. You can't beat an alcoholic stop!

A happening place with great service

By BobMinchak |

I stopped in for a late dinner with my daughter. The bar area was overflowing and the dining room was still pretty full. A seat opened up outside, but it was a little on the cool side, and we were lucky to snag an inside seat nest to on of the many large, open windows. I had the pan seared fresh scallops and my daughter had the sesame tuna. She liked hers and I liked mine. We washed it down with a bottle of Chateau Edmus from Saint Emilion. It was a tasty grand cru. I can't say I saw any deals on the wine list, but the selection looked like a good one, even if it is a bit pricey. But it is Manhattan. Our server Siobhan, did a great job, she was also very entertaining and one can tell, she took great pride in doing a good job. So this place had a good trifecta, good service, good food and drink and a high energy buz

Late eats and drinks with the Family

By Malstyles |

Walked from Hotel NOMO SOHO, About 10pm. Staff was friendly, inviting and the place was clean. Definitely a late night spot for drinks, Nicely dressed crowd, moving in and out but not overwhelming. Had some beer, cocktails and food. Burgers Shrimp tacos Bean Quesadillas Everything was delicious We left full and happy, short walk back to the hotel. Would definitely go back.

A hidden gem!!

This place is everything you could want on an afternoon. Great choice of beers, good food, and fantastic service. Go here, and then tell others to do the same!!

Excellent atmosphere and service!

This place has a great vibe, lively, modern and fun. The bartenders and servers are great. I highly recommend checking this place out.

If all bars were like this

By ian_and_rachel |

Stopped here while exploring this part of the City - a bit off the beaten track but the venue was lovely - we only stopped for drinks but the barman was amazing - proper local with the gift of the gab and made us feel very welcome. Good range of local beers and cider too.

"OMG! I know this place!"

By Joshua R |

After a fabulous afternoon shopping in Soho for new sunglasses. (I bought Burberry.) My friend and I took a walk through Little Italy to find this restaurant he enjoyed. We sat on the patio for a late lunch. My friend order a glass of champagne and I an IPA draft. The waiter was very cute, friendly and knew what he was doing. I ordered the steak sandwich and it was cooked perfect. I loved the handmade fries. I walked inside to use the restroom and the place felt familiar. I have been here? When I came back to the table I asked my friend if this restaurant was in a movie and he laughed and said, "Sex And The City" I knew it! Soon after, the tour came through. It was an NYC moment for me that I will always remember.

Good people watching, nice happy hour stop.

By jhw80503 |

In SoHo, need a rest during happy hour, want to see an interesting street scene while you relax? This would be a good choice. Get seating by the window or if weather permits outdoors.

Awesome Place

By Thomas J |

I love this place, we come here every year for the Feast and we're treated like family. Try the meatballs you will be surprised at how amazing they are.

Great bar

By Lissim09 |

Stopped here as part of the Sex and the City Tour. Great bar, great atmosphere and good prices. The food looked excellent. We would definitely return. The staff were friendly. A good little watering hole!

Food was excellent

By JZBach |

This place was a lucky find. The atmosphere was eclectic, and the food was outstanding. Attentive service too.

Work Dinner

By Chris M |

Took a short Uber up from Jersey City and ate dinner at this cozy restaurant. The place is not huge but we were early and few tables were taken when we arrived, but we watched people stream in shortly after including families and singles. We both selected beers from the menu and while not an extensive selection, they had enough choices to please most people. The service was solid and we had no complaints about the service nor the food. I can’t believe I didn’t grab pics but the plates were full and the presentation was good. We both selected burgers with me having the Rajin’ Cajun and she ordering the John Wayne. May want to get an extra side of the remoulade sauce. Both were tasty and sizable and their hand cut French fries were good as well. You won’t leave hungry after meals from Onieal’s. Would definitely suggest this restaurant be considered if you are nearby and hungry for a burger.

The food was very good but the service was awesome

By JBC |

We wandered in on a Friday Night and met Dustin. Clearly this was our lucky day. Dustin was full of fun and sassy as he could be. He did not lead us astray on the entrée choice and went above and beyond to give us excellent service.

More a bar than a restaurant

By Michelle S |

Known for being Steve's bar 'Scout' in SATC it can be over run by SATC tours ordering Cosmo's. Nonetheless it is a cosy bar with reasonably good service (if you can dodge the tours when sadly it does become a little packed even for a SATC fan). It is a lot smaller than portrayed on TV. But it is cosy and drinks and service not overly priced for the area. Did not try the food but certainly worth a visit. It is a great 'snug' for couples, kid friendly too.

Great venue for drinks....

By jamiebhoy1967 |

My Wife and I visited the bar as it is part of the Sex and the City tour that we were on. My Wife thought that the cosmopolitans were great, so much so that she treated herself to two at lunchtime which is very rare. I decided to sample the wide choice of American beers and tried the Brooklyn Pilsener and the Bronx Pale Ale. Both were very good and the batman was was very knowledgeable on the local independent beers. It is a rare treat for a bar that is part of a tour to be this good.

Pretty good -- and then the tourists arrive

By JeepNYC |

We went there for brunch on a Sunday, cutting through from Chinatown to Soho. The interior's interesting, with an intricate wooden ceiling and comfortable, expansive tables and sofas than encourage you to curl up for a while. The menu's fairly standard, nothing particularly original -- eggs benedict, burgers, fancy toast etc. Service was very friendly and cheerful albeit slooooow despite us being initially the only patrons other than the server's friends -- and the food took an absolute age (> 30 mins). That said, the food was very good, good enough that I would definitely visit again if I was in the vicinity, and the ambience was quiet, pleasant, and relaxed. And then... 60 people arrived through the back door, vast numbers of pink Cosmos were poured, and every table, chair, stool, square of floor was taken up by people taking photos, fanning themselves to cool down, queueing for the restrooms, and so on. Turns out Onieal's was Aidan's bar in Sex and The City. I definitely didn't recognise it before (New York itself is pretty unrecognisable from 15 years ago), and to be honest I didn't really recognise it even when I knew where I was. The tourists shouldn't put you off -- I presume they're only there a couple of times a day at most, and if you live in NYC you quickly get used to this sort of thing -- and its television history may even attract you.

The place is horrible the ower is was nasty to me

By mercedesrod |

The night I went there the service was poor the owner was nasty to me the atmosphere was boring and the food was average at best. The worst restaurant I ever been too I will never go there again

Great meal on the first night of our NYC trip

By Alastair F |

We chose this restaurant on the strength of other reviews and the fact it was within walking distance of our hotel on the Lower East Side. We had made reservations through OpenTable but we had the choice of tables. Food and drink was excellent. Steak was melt in the mouth and the seafood special was superb. The red wine went down a treat too. Reasonably priced - would definitely go back.

Great Time

By Deefromphilly |

The atmosphere was wonderful and the food was great. My boyfriend and I were still able to find it to be a romantic restaurant despite the closeness of the bar/lounge. We had a great time watching people have a great time. At first we were the only people in the restaurant section and the service was outstanding. I believe that had it been a full house the service would have still been just as attentive. It certainly doesn't fit for a tight budget, but if you want to treat yourself to a little splurge then I would highly recommend this place.

Good cocktails but they will cost you

By Melanie T |

Onieals is a bit hidden, in the sense that it’s in a pretty quiet part of Chinatown. A few friends and I stopped in on the day after Christmas, after having dinner next door. There's an area in the back where they serve food, but if you're just looking to have a few drinks, then there's a lounge area in the front. Their cocktails are pretty good but it's pricey ($15). I tried the Bourbon Beehive (Bulleit bourbon, honey, pomegranate & fresh lemon), which I really liked. I like Bulleit, so that was already a plus, and it wasn't too sweet. I tried a sip of my friend's Kentucky Tea (Bulleit bourbon, black tea, spanked mint & lemon, honey & peach bitters, and this one was good as well. I ordered this as my second drink, but they mistakenly brought out some tequila cocktail. I don't like tequila but I must say, whatever that cocktail was, was still pretty good. I saw on their website that they have $1 oysters on Wednesdays from 4 pm to 11 pm, so I wouldn't mind coming back for those!

Very cool

By WorksforTravelMoney |

When planning our trip to NYC, I wanted to stop into Onieals because it's the bar that was used as Steve's bar "Scout" in Sex and the City. We stopped in for drinks, and wow, is this a cool bar. Service was excellent and the seating was very comfortable. The restaurant area looked good too, however, we did not have dinner there. If you have time to stop in for a beer or a cocktail, give it a shot - you won't be disappointed.

An amazing restaurant!

By Marianna B |

The food was excellent, the atmosphere was very romantic, the waiters were really nice. We really enjoyed ourselves.

Cozy little spot...but....

By John L |

Cozy little spot...but....be prepared for the Sex and the City tours. Some are quite small, but others are bus loads. Pros: great friendly staff, nice causal ambiance about the place, nice pours Cons: drink prices are a bit high

Wonderful find

By nikki_hill1301 |

We stumbled on this place by accident. We’d come off Brooklyn Bridge and walked through Chinatown. We were looking for a bar to stop at and found this place on the edge of little Italy. We went in and the first thing we noticed was a sign on the bar that said “Tip like Mr Big” I went to the restroom and when I got back it was full of women drinking cosmos. Turns out that it was bar used in series 2 of Sex In the City. We stayed all afternoon and drank a lot of great cocktails. We ate as well and our bill was nearly $700 between 6 of us. It was worth every penny! We had a great time, and our waiter was brilliant so big shout out to Cramer!

Great food right by our hotel

By ChronoJay |

We stayed at the Solita Soho hotel on Grand street, so this was one block away. We actually ate here twice for convenience -- and we knew it was so good. I had a grilled ham and cheese that was fantastic, and my friend had a personal pizza which was the special of the day. The pizza was also excellent. They had a nice selection of beers on tap. Service was top notch, we ate right at the bar.

Beautiful Decor

Great Cosmos for all the sex n the city fans. Beautiful decor, friendly staff and good service. Great atmosphere.

Great place watching NYC waking up

By hamburgali |

While walking around on a very sunny Sunday morning, I saw this pub and it´s chairs perfectly positioning in the sun. So I some drinks outside and was watching the people running up and down. It was very interesting see so many different people, mainly locals. Over the two hours I spend there, the area woke up and the streets got fuller and fuller. I cannot say much about the Pub, althouhg they were very friendly. If you need a rest while exploring little italy or china town - go there.

Great vibe & Outdoor seating!

By misopiso88 |

My friends and I were walking through the neighborhood and decided to stop at Onieals for a drink and some appetizers. Food and drinks were great and the service was excellent. There is nice seating outside or next to open windows for a sunny day. I would highly recommend Onieals if you are in the neighborhood and looking for a relaxing place to sit down and enjoy drinks and/or food.

What a great find!!

A group of co-workers and I wandered in on a Friday night and boy, am I glad we did!! The food was great, beautifully prepared and delicious. The best part was our Waiter, Dustin. He was fast, funny and never lead us astray. I would recommend this place to anyone, but be sure to ask for Dustin!!

By Neil F |

A really atmospheric little restaurant with amazing food and great service. The waitress was fantastic, helpful and knowledgeable about everything on the menu. The cocktails are heavenly and not too expensive by NYC standards. As for the food,it was amazing. To start we had the chipotle wings and a strawberry salad both of which were fantastic. For entrees we chose Onieals hammered chicken in a white wine and shallot sauce with creamy mash plus hanger steak also with mash. They were both exquisite. A light and delicious creme brulee rounded the meal off perfectly. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Wonderful food and atmosphere

By Jil |

We decided to go to ONieals for supper as per the great reviews on tripadvisor. Well we were not disapointed. Food was delicious and cooked perfectly. We arrived at 4:00 trying to have an early dinner before meeting up with some friends. But they do not serve sppper until 5:30 which was fine, we had a couple of drinks, the craft beer on tap is great!! We ordered the Scallops on Sataki asperigas rissoto and the penne vodka, and it was perfect!! The prices were also great for NYC about 18-25 per plate. You will want to go eat here!!

Great stop for Cosmos!

By James A |

This was a stop during the Sex and the City tour to have some cosmos. The service was good for a crowd of about 50. The drinks were perfect, the inside was nice, music was pumping and there was a great view from our table. Would definitely go again to try the food!

Great place not so great service.

By Tina M |

A welcome retreat from wintry streets. Cosy, softly-lit and comfortable. Good glasses of merlot and Founders, and the food was perfectly acceptable. But... when we sat on an unreserved table for drinks we were told to move along to the table by the door. And when we asked for the free wi-fi password, we were told by a staff member that he didn't know it as he was new there. He did not apologise or bother finding out what it was. It became clear that a largish (and much younger) group were expected. We felt like we were in the way. At this point the service given was just plain rude. However we stuck with it as we were so hungry after a long day sightseeing.Once in the dining area we were treated in a much more welcoming manner. Throughout our stay in NYC this was the only time we experienced service like this. Hopefully they will up their game and treat all paying guests the same.

Average Food - Bad Service during San Generro Festival

By oldbarney1 |

I was travelling with my wife and her parents. I wanted to take them to Little Italy to get some authentic Italian food. We were surprised that we went right to the heart of the San Generro festival. The streets are completely congested. It was a fun crowd until around 11pm when the place turned to New Jersey Shore wantabees. We stopped at O'neils to get out of the craziness and left our name for a table that would be ready in 45 minutes. We went to the LOUD bar for a couple of drinks. After 1 hour I checked and our table was being cleaned. After 1:15 minutes I checked with another hostess and the table was not mine, but one was getting cleaned. After 1:30 we finally sat down. I would not have gone here if I knew it would take 1:30 to sit down. We are not the loud bar party type. We ordered and the food came out quickly. The food was average. The pizza and Pasta Boulignese were good. I had the Vodka and it was below average. The price seemed about right, but I would avoid in the future.

Good food And service

By gino23g10 |

Good branzino al cartoccio (tasty And well cooked) And beatiful location just next to Little Italy. Even though some of our group got to the restaurant later than the time of reservation, they were patient and did not give away our table..very Nice from them..restaurant sincerely recommended

Great atmosphere, exciting menu, superb decor

By Gillian L |

I stumbled across this place when I was on the Sex and The City Tour as it is featured in a few episodes. I returned with my friend for dinner. I was not disappointed. The friendly staff made us welcome, and it was difficult to choose from the choice on the menu. The yellow fin tuna with tempura green beans was to die for. The background music suited all tastes and added atmosphere. Later in the evening, the tables move and it becomes a club. Time for our exit, but great for the 20 somethings. Very easy to get a cab back to Manhattan too.

open for a century for good reason

By JB10001 |

This joint is reputed to have a tunnel that led from the old police headquarters, across the street, to this speakeasy cum bar where the ladies from Sex In The City went. It is tucked in a more quiet part of the neighborhood, has wonderful history, ambience, service and food. You can sit down away from the bar and feel that you are detached from that area, or plop down at or near the bar and enjoy the game on the tele and a more energetic atmosphere. I love this place.

Superb!

We stumbled into Onieal's on a Friday night and the staff was wonderfully friendly and accommodating. The quality of the food was great as well as the flavor. I highly recommend this establishment.

Pricey but nice

By NDMorrison06 |

We went here as a big group with a last minute reservation. Even with the 'real' they gave us in drinks, they were rather expensive. The food was good, we had a lot of appetizers between us. Music was really good at night, though other dinners were probably annoyed by the volume!

Lovely spot for late afternoon snack

By JaxAmerican |

We happened upon Onieals just strolling around, hoping for a light snack before our youngest's theater call... and it was wonderful! We got a table outside and two "shareables": the guac with homemade chips and pico de gallo, and the charcuterie board, plus wine and tea with honey. We enjoyed it very much. The service was nice; not rushed at all. The chips were neat - a little heartier than you might expect, so they did double duty with the fig jam and the mustard on the charcuterie board! Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area (the inside looks beautiful, too, with a carved ceiling).

Onieal's is not very casual

By keladain |

We stopped in for a drink expecting a causal pub. This place is a little more upscale. Waitresses dressed in short black dresses, I'd call it more business casual, If that's what your looking for. Service was slow, we went to the bar and ordered our own drinks. They average about $14 for a mixed drink. If you are looking for causal & really good food & drinks, try the Whiskey Tavern down the street.

Awesome place to eat

Super great service by Lacey!! I loved my hamburger and fries. Super nice ambiance. Who knew that this once was a speakeasy.

Another Good Meal

By Paul W |

We visited this place as it was featured on Sex & the City series; we did our own SATC tour. The venue was a welcome stop as it was one of the few days with rain during our stay in NY. The food was lovely and we had a bottle of wine too, although I wouldn't have a coffee here again as it wasn't fresh brewed and they don't do desserts during lunch time. The staff was friendly with us and we were made to feel welcome. It was quiet on the day so the atmosphere wasn't as good as Pete's Tavern, but we enjoyed it all the same.

Family Gathering in the Big Apple

By Patti L |

Recently, I combined visit and pleasure in the Big Apple and was amazed and excited to learn my brother would also visit. It was his birthday! My brother made reservations at Onieal's, a tucked-out-of-the-way spot in Chelsea, or maybe Soho (I am so unfamiliar with this part of town, gravitating to Broadway and Central Park). Was I ever glad we'd chosen Onieal's! From the moment we entered, a bit early, our hostess/waitstaff made us feel welcome. None of the New York pretentiousness or I'm hip, you're so out of it, not from Onieal's! I loved their craft cocktails, their wine list--it was my brother's birthday, after all--and the daily specials. The beautiful wood interior and the large table setting for a bigger group (8 to 10) sure made this a fun night, a birthday to remember. Onieal's broke lots of stereotypes of NYC restaurants--too overpriced, not enough food, not friendly. On your next trip to the Big Apple, check it out!

Good atmosphere but below average everthing else...

By Pascal G |

We went to the restaurant reading all the positive reviews from tripadvisor and i can say this is the first time i disagreed with the reviews. The atmosphere is very good. It is a nice pub. But that's it! We went there for lunch and there were only 3 tables sat, so you would expect the food to turn quickly.... Well we waited 15 min before someone asked us for a drink, then we waited for 30-40 min for our food to turn up. We ordered a chicken wrap sandwich and a croque madame! So nothing fancy to prepare. The wrap was nice but the croque madame wasn't a croque madame! It came with fried toasts in oil and a complete fried dried egg inside! (A croque madame is grilled bread with a fried running egg on top). As a frenchman i was disaspointed... However the service was very french: no smile, no sorry for the delay and no "is everything ok?".. So i did like in France: no tips! So i wouldnt recommend this place.

Great night,great bar,great bar staff ! - just go !

By shalovesny |

Had fancied giving Onieals a try and have to admit it added to the intrigue as it was the bar that was used as "Scout" (the bar owned by Steve and Aiden in SATC). We were staying just 5 mins away and had had a lovely dinner in little Italy just around the corner when we decided to give it a try. We all (4 of us - 2 couples) sat and the bar - the guys were on gin & tonics, and my friend and I initially on soft drinks as the night was still young. The bar tender Shane was very friendly and chatty and must have done something right as we had intended on doing a bar crawl due to it being our last night in the city - but the men were kind of stocking up at their end of the bar on the old g&t's so we thought "well if you can't beat em ,join em!" - so thanks to Shane's friendly banter (and very strong g&t's !) we ended up staying in there til gone midnight easily. Didn't eat whilst here just came for drinks but would come again.

The O’Neals like Onieals

By The O’Neals |

We stumbled on this even though we go to Mulberry street a lot. It’s a great location for car pick up. Also it’s from Sex and the City, so we of course had a cosmopolitan. The only suggestion we have is careful Mr Bar Tender. Make sure you know who you are talking to before you tell Kentucky Folks about bourbon. You clearly needed to learn a little more. We will be back! Great atmosphere

Great food.

By les91178 |

The food here was very good. I ordered salmon and risotto. Both were cooked perfectly. Our table also ordered the yellowfin appetizer and I was pleasantly surprised with how tasty it was. I would definitely recommend Onieal's to anyone looking for a reasonably priced restaurant with great food and service.

relaxing bar

By TripPhotographer52 |

We were visiting from out of town and went to the 911 memorial and then walked towards Little Italy were we had dinner reservations. We were early and decided to stop at Onieals to have a drink and some appetizers. We sat out side as my wife enjoyed the people watching- this location is in the Chinatown-Little Italy area. There was a few people sitting next to us on one side and several people speaking a foreign language on the other- they were from Barcelona. There was a continuing stream of people walking past us. The service was great. We had wine and a hummus plate which was a big serving and very good.

Delicious Lunch

By TrayBN |

Interesting corner location. Great bar ambiance. Dark and comfortable on the inside, tables on the sidewalk when the weather allows. Service was excellent. The beer was delicious and cold on an unusually warm October day. For lunch I had their BBQ shortrib sandwich and fries. Both were exceptional. Seems like a great place just to hang out.

Friendly service and decent food.

By Albert C |

Four of us had dinner at Onieal's. The servers were friendly and fairly quick. My daughter ordered tortilla soup, which she liked. I had the meatballs which was good and my wife ordered the vegetarian tacos, which was fine. As one can see, this place has a mixture of Italian, Mexican and Asian food dishes. It has a relaxing environment but it is noisy like other eateries around. We had a good time and would recommend this place.

Want a cosmo?

By Lola M |

Well...we stopped by this nicely decorated restaurant and sat close to the wooden bar- Ambience is nice and service was efficient. We just had some drinks, so can not comment on the food, but really liked the place-

Tip off tourists on tips and bill

By DeBoes |

Good food and time until the bill came where they ripped us off on gratuity/tip. 70 dollars tip was generous enough but they tried to bully a 20% tip on a fat 432$ bill. A classic NY tourist rip off!

Brilliant Find!

By maggie023 |

Had a great evening here for my 60th birthday with my 4 sisters. Great service, delicious food and gorgeous cocktails. Lovely buzzy atmosphere would def recommend, felt like real New York !

only place to go in NYC for spirits and fun

Nice Bar/Restaurant in a Historical Building

By PopeyeD |

Stopped in for lunch recently. Food and service was good and the prices were reasonable. Had the Short Rib Sandwich and washed it down with a few pints of Guinness. The location has housed one bar or another since the 1870's. The Old New York Police Headquarters sits across the street at 240 Centre Street and is where the NYPD operated from the years 1909 - 1973. The bar was known at the time as "The Press Room". According to legend there was a secret tunnel which was dug that lead from Police Headquarters to the bar's basement. Apparently this was extremely useful during the prohibition years. The NYPD moved out in 1973. The old headquarters building was converted to million dollar condos in the late 1980's when the tunnel was reportedly sealed up. The bar's décor may be some of the original design with it's mahogany carved wood ceiling. Beware this place was also used as a set for the old HBO show "Sex and the City". While we were having lunch a walking tour of Sex and the City fans (mostly women) entered and ordered up rounds of Cosmos. All in good fun. I would definitely return to O'Nieal's for a meal or drinks.

Lovely evening, good food, good service - will go back

By Victoria M |

It was the last evening of our trip and we were wandering around looking for where to have dinner. We wanted a good but not terribly expensive meal, and figured we'd know the right place when we saw it. Onieal's turned out to be it! There were three of us, one a very picky eater and the other two reasonably demanding re food. All were satisfied. The salads were outstanding, and each of the mains (drunken ribs, salmon, tuna) were very satisfying. We enjoyed some of the special cocktails and even treated ourselves to dessert. The service was good and we loved the dark carved wooden walls and ceiling. We chose it by accident, but would return on purpose.

Nice place, but beware of double tipping

By dkbe |

With a party of four, we tried some starters and mains, and most of the dishes were really good, especially the salmon tartar, the tuna and the drunken ribs. Service was attentive, professional and extremely friendly, and the atmosphere was cosy. What we did not like: although they state in the menu they'll add 20% tip for parties of 6 or more, they applied it to our bill. You had to read carefully to avoid to tip twice.

Our favorite place in NYC!

By baseballslage |

One of our favorite places in The City. Great food and drinks and super friendly and attentive staff. Half of the restaurant is bar area with some seating while the other half has tables. It is the location of Scout/Aidan’s bar in SATC, which adds to the coolness but it’s just an awesome place to go! Must visit!

Couples

Steak and chips all very good. Good beer and wine choice and decent size wine fill for the money. I had a very yummy and very healthy bowl of Grilled corn and Kale Zoodle with chicken. Quite delicious. Neighbouring table a bit raucous but could still hear each other. Comfy seating and great staff. Felt welcomed and looked after

found it with solita's help

a block from the hotel...stephanie from the solita sent me there promising a classic NYC atmosphere and good food!

Fun atmosphere, good food, excellent drink menu

By JohnF414 |

We stumbled across this bar during a trip to Little Italy area of NYC, and had an outstanding experience. The interior has impressive wood work and the overall atmosphere was casual and fun. The good selection of draft craft beers and house specialty cocktails kept us entertained while it was snowing outside, and the quality of the pub style lunch foods was excellent. Finally, I have to note that the server was very attuned to our needs and very entertaining - he struck a nice balance of joking with our group and tending to our needs. A well paced and fun afternoon at Onieal's!
