Cocktail place with very uncomfortable sitting

By torontolia |

A very tiny space, packed with people, very hard to sit as the tables are low to the ground, not a nice place for socializing for a big group (it was five of us and we wanted to chat as we didn’t see each other for a long time). But it was so loud that we couldn’t hear each other. So we had couple drinks and couple appetizers and left. The food was ok, just small plate appetizers and bites to eat, also very hard to eat as the tables are tiny and you feel like you are eating on your lap, very uncomfortable sitting. The view is ok, but I did not enjoy the vibe as I think this place is for people who just want to drink cocktails and hang out without having a conversation. There was a DJ later in the evening and the place got even more packed. I think this place is for couples who want to have cocktails, definitely not recommend for socializing if you want to have a conversation.

maybe it's an acquired taste

By WaterEnthusiasts |

Rooftop bars are at a premium in NYC, and this one looks out at the East River and Brooklyn. The vibe was weird. It's in a high-end neighborhood, residential building. You wait in the lobby of the building to take the designated elevator up. The residents file past the security guard at the desk, coming and going in their daily lives. The bar itself is cramped, and our seats did not permit relaxed conversation. Most customers that night looked (inexplicably) as if they were dressed for the Kentucky Derby. (It was not Derby weekend.) There seemed to be two hen parties there. People seemed to be talking principally with those they already knew. Drinks were priced about as I would expect for the location and view. The staff was not rude, in our experience. We were there only for drinks. I am in no rush to return.

OK

We stopped by Ophelia for drinks, impressed by Instagram. The room in the middle was crowded. Service was mediocre, drinks OK, view great. Probably wouldn't go back a second time.

Great views - good cocktails

By KJBMTB |

My wife and I had just arrived to visit my step daughter and her husband and after a late meal they suggested visiting this place for a "nightcap" before returning to our hotel. We only had drinks so could not comment on the food provision. If you are just looking for drinks then this venue is superb. Situated on almost the top floor of this building the views over the river were spectacular. It has the bulk of its tables for drinks inside with picture windows giving you the view. There was a very small outside area where you could experience the views in the open air. We had pre booked a table but at the time we arrived (around 9pm) it was not particularly crowded. The table turned out to be inside which would normally be okay. Unfortunately it was during the recent heatwave and the air con was broken at that end which did make it a little bit uncomfortable. We did not have to wait long until we could move to the open air section which was extremely refreshing. We had three cocktails and a bear and the total bill came to $59.88 (excluding tip) which seemed reasonable bearing in mind we were in NYC. There are many "rooftop" bars throughout Manhattan which we did not try and may well be as good as this place. But the location, looking over the river made it an excellent choice for a visitor.

Deflated

By famished12 |

Booked this due to its view and decor for a few drinks. Had previously read some of the negative reviews but thought we would still give it a go. The decor and view are great and would be a cool spot if the staff were attentive or more engaging. It wasn't busy when we arrived, we waited 20 mins to order a drink. We then had prosecco served in a wine glass. To which a couple next us got up and took the prosecco back and ask why. To which they replied the bar didn't have any. Seemed they shouldn't have it on the menu if they are trying to be upmarket and serving champagne and prosecco from wine glasses! We watched another waitress keep coming over to her friends, taking pictures, getting another waiter to take pictures and then sampling the drinks. Seemed a bit strange especially at one point there were three tables waiting for the bill. All the customers were making eye contact and not very happy with the situation. Shame really. I wouldn't recommend I expect there are places with similar view but better atmosphere and service. Might even get the right drink in the appropriate glass!

Welcoming and delightful

By LoisD96 |

I was staying at Beekman Towers and as recommended by front desk went to investigate. Fortunately I chose a day of the week that wasn't so busy so was able to have a seat, enjoy a drink and the vista of the skyline. Tried to go to Ophelia again but found that the area was booked out so I had to return to my Apartment in the building and think about what to do next. The location and facility is first rate and obviously very popular with no Beekman Tower visitors

Awesome views, drinks and food!

By Savrob610 |

My friend and I visited in early October and was struck by the Art Deco design and beautiful views. We had the wonderful Resurrection drink and for food we tried the grilled cheese, prosciutto, tuna tartare and cheese plate. All the selections were outstanding and service was friendly and polite. We will definitely be back again!

Great views and friendly staff.

By Cathy R |

On top of the Beekman Towers, reservations are advised. 360 degree views of the city, so beautiful. Had great drinks and tried their hummus appetizer and we loved it. Outside dining is beautiful to watch the city come alive at sunset.

Wonderful view, in a cosy atmosphere

By minnie023 |

We visited for drinks on a Saturday night. Fantastic views, with inside and outside seating. The booths were cosy, and the cocktails were very good (and relatively inexpensive). Delighted also to be able to book online, particularly useful for tourists. The staff were very helpful-I left my phone behind and they were so helpful and prompt at replying to my queries and getting it back to me.

Brilliant view over the East River spoiled by noise and crowds

By Waynegourmet |

The place was jammed, noisy and crowded. I asked for a Triple Sec and was charged for a Cointreau. The good news is that we got stools next to the window for a great view

Worth a visit for the views

By Leigh_vdb |

We came here on our first night in NYC, a few hours after landing from the UK. So we were a bit tired and jetlagged but were nevertheless keen to get a classic NY skyline view to kickstart our trip. For that alone, a trip to Ophelia is worth it, because the views are absolutely incredible. The cocktails are good, but come with a hefty pricetag, although that's pretty standard in NYC. We stayed for two rounds and enjoyed the views immensely.

Great ambience, wonderful view

By Steve D |

We found Ophelia's from an article in the New York Times and went for drinks and appetizers on a recent trip in. It was a beautiful evening and a perfect setting. The service was excellent and the server was attentive and friendly. Obviously the view is the major attraction here (and the prices reflect it), but the architecture and history is interesting too. We'll definitely be back for a table with a slightly different view.

Magical views!

By lparker220 |

We ended our action-packed day by enjoying a few craft cocktails with amazing views of Queens. The food was surprisingly good and the service was friendly and efficient. 🍸 🌃 ❄️

great views but very poor food service

By finewinesnmorediva |

Don't know if it was the day of the week (Thursday) - didn't seem overcrowded - but food service was limited and super slow. Main things like truffle fries on the menu were not available. Goofed up billing and overall a sorry experience. Over hyped for sure!

Amazing view and cocktails!

By Linzi |

We visited here on our first night in NYC after seeing it on Facebook and we couldn't have picked a better place! What an amazing view to start off our holiday. The cocktails were excellent as was the service. Definitely be back on our next visit!

Don't Count on Your Reservation Being Honored

By Jon K |

I went to Ophelia recently (4/27/2022) and it was a terrible experience. I arrived with my guests about 2-3 minutes before our reservation and was told our table would be ready in 5-7 minutes. After 20 minutes of waiting for our table, I went back up to the host station and asked about our table status. Same response: our table would be ready in 5-7 minutes. Gave them about another 5 minutes, checked my phone, and I received an email notification from Open Table noting that Ophelia just went ahead and canceled my reservation. Photo evidence can be provided. I can assure you I was not rude to the two women at the host station (in spite of one of them being quite rude to us). It appeared they just didn't want to seat us.

Hostess with bad attitude

By Nicolai M |

The blond hostess working feb 17th at 8pm walking around with the facemask under her nose is probably the laziest hostess we've met and couldnt care less about treating the costumers right (especially us). Had a bad attitude and seemed alot like she didnt like her job. Not the kind of service you expect at that place.

Ophelia : Trendy, eneregized, fun -- with a knock out night time view of the Brooklyn skyline !

By MHeathSyr |

If you are looking hip and high energy a place to relax or meet friends for a drink before dinner, Ophelia is a no brainer. The view of the Brookly is terrific !

Fabulous Mother’s Day brunch!

By Wendy V |

What a beautiful venue! The bar is stunning and we had a table outside with an amazing view. The food and service were phenomenal. We will definitely go back.

Berkman Tower Drinks

By katina h |

A free pass to the lounge came with my room so I took advantage. The rooftop is the peak of a deco building with a fairly tight footprint so seating is a little awkward but the view is fantastic and the drinks delicious and original.

Beautiful Rooftop Bar. Great views, friendly service. We met the best Security/Elevator assistant ever. Felt safe.

Ophelia Lounge NYC — Cocktails, Views, and an Upbeat Rooftop Scene

By Vini Santos |

Ophelia is a stylish rooftop lounge perched high above the city, offering great cocktails and impressive skyline views that make it an ideal spot for evening drinks in NYC. The setting feels polished yet fun, with a panoramic outlook over the East River and the surrounding cityscape. The cocktails are well crafted, creative without being overcomplicated, and nicely presented. As the night progresses, the atmosphere becomes more upbeat, with music setting the tone and a dance-floor vibe taking over later in the evening. Overall, it’s a great choice if you’re looking for a lively rooftop experience that combines good drinks, great views, and an energetic crowd.

Outsanding view, good drinks, noisy clients

By lealise2018 |

Been there with some friends for some drinks. The view is indeed stunning. You have to be there right before dusk in order to enjoy the best light. The cocktails were excellent, but a tad pricey. The staff is split into two categories: on one side very kind young and pleasant human beings, and on the other side Gods and Goddesses of beauty, who know they are handsome and are hence a bit pretentious... The clientele was fine when we arrived, but as soon as the night arrives the sound level became unbearable... Not sure whether it is because some clients were screaming louds "OMGs" all the time , or because night was coming, but the music became too loud for my taste. In one line: if you are not a party beast, and want to enjoy a quiet cocktail and beautiful view, -go there for a quick drink before heading to somewhere else.

Great place for drinks

By Ana R |

We’ve been here several times because it is beautiful and has great vibes. The food menu is very limited, unfortunately. But it is the perfect spot for a glass (or bottle!) of wine. Be sure to make reservations in advance!

What out for “hidden” fees!!!!

By BushTraveller_9 |

Some friends and I went for a Birthday happy hour at Ophelia since we work very close by. We had booked a table at a discreet part of the lounge, and had a small cake with us. After having a couple rounds of drinks and sharing a few appetizers, we asked the waitress (who was very nice) whether she could bring a few plates so we could share the cake. She indicated there was no problems and brought them over. All was going well until all of a sudden (after we had cut the cake, distributed slices, and had started eating it) the manager comes and says we will need to pay a “cake fee” of USD 5… PER PERSON (we were a party of 7)!! That seemed outrageous and we said we wouldn’t pay given that we had asked if it was ok to do it, and we were told it was. He kept pushing it, and when we asked whether it was clearly written in the menu, he went away to get one. We had a menu with us, looked through it, and there was nothing… He came back a few minutes later to say that it was a misunderstanding and we did not have to pay anything… What a disappointment! It did feel like an attempt of scamming customers… We could all get having a “cork fee” or even a “cake fee” of USD 5 or USD 10 altogether. But USD 5 per person???!!! That just seems very petty.

Lovely night out

By SammiSunshine |

Based on past reviews, it seems Ophelia would have either been a hit or a miss. Fortunately for me, it was a hit! The lounge contains some decorative flair for the holidays, including a lovely hanging crystal installation by the bar. Views are nice from this lounge as it sits atop the 26th floor. I had a fantastic cocktail called the Rising Star. (The lotus cookie cream is super!) Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a holiday drink. While the cocktails due skew on the pricey side, it was worth the cost. I also had no issues with waiting for a seat, and our server was excellent. Management even came around to say hello.

Where City Lights and Cocktails Create Magic

By MenuPassport |

Ophelia is where the ordinary transforms into the extraordinary, especially as night falls. Perched high above the city, the panoramic views are nothing short of mesmerizing, with twinkling lights painting a dazzling urban landscape. As we settled in, cocktails in hand, the DJ’s smooth beats flowed effortlessly through the space, setting a vibe that was both intimate and electric. The blend of cozy seating and modern design invites you to linger and soak in the energy of the evening. Whether you're savoring every sip or simply gazing out over the skyline, every moment at Ophelia feels like a special occasion. It’s the perfect spot to escape the everyday, and with a menu that matches the ambiance, it's a must-visit for those seeking a vibrant yet laid-back night out. Ideal for date nights or chic gatherings, Ophelia offers more than just drinks—it serves up an unforgettable experience.

Good drinks, good food, poor service

By Jennifer D |

Have been before. View is gorgeous, especially riverside. Priced as expected. But sad and even impolite or absent service.

Amazing cocktails, great views, hidden gem

By jcal |

After seeing our Hilton hotel was offering $20 cocktails to sit in the lobby with no views, I decided we could find better elsewhere. After some google map searches of bars that were close to our hotel on Lexington Avenue 51st street, I found Ophelia. We went, and although the cocktails were still $17-$20, they were super strong, tasty, and the bar itself is very nice with incredible views across east river and down 49th and 50th street. Definitely worth the money. We just sat at the bar, had no problem finding a seat at 8pm on a Wednesday evening, and enjoyed the ambience. Can’t remember the name of the cocktail I had, however it was definitely crafted - it came in a chalice with berry powder all around it, and looked stunning! Feel like this place slips under the radar slightly, but would definitely recommend and be keen to go back myself.

Great Views

By Mymilesandsmiles |

Phenomenal views, creative and yummy cocktails (done right) make this spot a solid choice. Service can slack at times but at least you will have a gorgeous view while you wait = ]

Great Clubbing Experience

By Alexander Agostini |

At the moment you step out of the elevator, you'll be traveling into a completely new world, a live DJ to the left, a stunning bar right straight ahead, with a stunning view, and trust me, those bartenders know their industry extremely well. I've never ever ever seen such a great variety of ingredients, and selection of spices, herbs, fruits, and you name it. At the very beginning I was a little bit skeptical in going, but in the end it turned out to be totally worth paying a visit.

Evening Cocktails with a View

By michael s |

We really enjoyed our drink. The mixologist seems to really know what he's doing. He served a sour cocktail with an egg white and it was fantastic. The view of the river was beautiful and overall a great ambiance. The only reason I'm giving a 4 out of 5 is my girlfriend was appalled at the cleanliness of the women's bathroom, it took forever to get the bartender to speak to us even though it was very slow that night. Overall I recommend the drinks and the view although it' probably more impressive during the day because of the water views. $20 cocktails but that's NY

Appalling

By Rachel G |

On holiday in New York for 5 days planned over the 4th July to enjoy and experience the celebrations. Booked a table at Ophelia for the 4th July, got a confirmation that the table had been booked so no longer needed to find somewhere lovely to watch the fireworks. Received another confirmation email the evening before the 4th to get us excited about visiting Ophelia on the 4th. Arrived to be told that there was a private function and we were unable to enter. We missed the fireworks and the spectacle! Hugely disappointed and disgusted that they let us book in the first place.

Off the Beaten Path

By Linda P |

When I had made reservations for a table at Ophelia's I was under the impression on a Saturday night there was a DJ, as advertised on their website. We took an Uber here and it is definitely off the beaten path, further than we anticipated. When we arrived the man manning the elevator said there was a private function going on and they were wrapping up so we had to wait, fine since we were early for our reservations. I then inquired about the DJ and was told there wasn't one that evening, false advertising since that was one of the reasons we came here. Another issue was for some reason we were not allowed to use the hotel restroom while waiting to go up to Ophelia, seriously? Once we were allowed upstairs it is a cool area, the bar is beautiful and the wrap around 360 degree views of the river and city were breathtaking. The waitress was very good and our water glasses were constantly refilled, love that! It was nice to sit and have a drink with those views but that is about it, not what we were really looking for. So one drink and we decided to leave. The one thing that was disturbing to us though was where the bathrooms were situated. You go down some stairs into what we considered a sketchy looking area, didn't feel very safe being the only one in the ladies room and even more disturbing was the window in the restroom was wide open, no bars, nothing. Being 27 floors up that is scary beyond belief, think that is a total safety hazard.

Had to come back to give a true review!

By Karla the Dog |

I had to come back because my first visit was super quick! Rojas, the manager, came by many times to make sure my friends and I were doing good! His friendly nature was calming. The food was excellent! We got the food tower, and I loved the lobster caviar app! The views were breathtaking! It’s a nice, chill spot on top of the city! Come and give it a try!!!!

Amazing view and place

By Elvira-Lila |

This rooftop is just amazing, not that full not that many tourists and amazing service and great drinks. Definitely to do when you are in NYC

It’s all about the view

By Lisa S |

Views are amazing!! That’s about all I can say. The drinks are overpriced, even by NYC standards. 30 bucks for a martini that’s served in a small old style glass (think Mad Men). It may be worth it for the view facing across the East River. Staff is friendly, sadly that’s all I can say about it. Overrated for sure.

Amazing

By Emily P |

Janet’s is the best waitress!!! Great service, view is amazing. This is the best restaurant and great drinks.

Amazing NYC view!!

By Jesus V |

Ophelia was a total surprise during our NY trip. Its off the usual turístic mid town area but it’s worth the walk. Excellent cocktails and bites (try the mini hamburgers with cheese and turkey) but what is really the best of it is the amazing view to the flood of lights that midtown NYC offers!

Absolutely atrocious don’t go

By Rebecca W |

Absolutely do not go to this bar. The manager Bruno was incredibly rude, our table was 35 minutes late, he didn’t apologise and he mocked us for being ‘foreign’ with other customers. Incredibly disappointed And completely ruined our evening. Additionally when we tried to give feedback Bruno was rude and aggressive. Such a shame.

Make sure you ask for prices before ordering drinks!

By Tourist771192 |

Faded decor with cleaning and updating needed. Bar service was ok but table service was not helpful. A friend ordered a Manhattan and it cost $36! Make sure you know the price of what you’re ordering! I will not be going back.

Great for all occasion!

By Heriberto R |

Usually my place to go for an after work bite/cocktail and business chat. The food and drinks are very authentic. I always find myself surprised. The staff is very attentive, and the view always impresses my guests.

Great Views

What an absolute find this lounge was. Great cocktails and excellent service. Fantastic views from the top. Would absolutely recommend.

One of the worst places I’ve been

By Dave Jones |

Such a bad bar. The staff, in particular the manager, were very rude and arrogant. Food left a lot to be desired. Don’t bother with this place. Much better places to visit

Away from the madding crowds

By Lee B |

Ophelia is a stunning Art Deco rooftop bar overlooking the east river. We enjoyed food and cocktails on our trip to NYC and would highly recommend for anyone looking for a special place away from the madding crowds!

It might become tragic but the views are gorgeous

By Oliver S |

I remember the old place atop the Beekman Tower: it closed in 2013 when they converted the hotel into condos and everybody was so sorry to see it go. Until a few months ago when a new bar opened in the same location, now updated to a dominant black color and no longer restaurant, just a well stocked bar and attentive and elegant personnel. Ophelia was one of Shakespeare's most tragic characters. And it might become real tragic for you if you don't pay attention and order a cocktail sprinkled with golden flakes ;) But the views have very few equal in this town. Go shortly before sunset and bring your camera, you'll remember it for a long time. Drinks are decent size but prices are on the high end which is totally justified by Ophelia's location. A dedicated elevator is open waiting for you. Ophelia is on the 26th Fl.

Upstairs

By Paul M |

We are staying in the building below the rooftop bar, Ophelia. Great views, ambiance, nice staff. Our appetizer order was slow in coming so we got a free drink. They believe in accountability. Appetizer was very good. Can’t speak to the rest of the menu.

Amazing atmosphere with perfect drinks and very friendly staff!

By chsp01 |

The Ophelia Lounge offers a perfect atmosphere und view with amazing cocktails. Definitely a perfect location, not only for special events. Make sure to reserve in advance!

Pay for the view

By sokriw |

OK, honestly I already knew from the get go the food was not why I picked this place, however since I wanted a table reservation, food came with the price of it. The view was, as expected, stunning. The service was friendly, yet very slow, probably understaffed. As for the food just play it safe when ordering from the menu. I did, as we went for veggie snacks and sliders, which was fine. The setting is quite crowded, however I’m glad I went.

DO NOT BOOK HERE - THEY WILL DUMP YOU WITH NO NOTICE OR COMMUNICATION IF THEY GET A BETTER OFFER AND THEY LIE!

By Mary C |

Booked to visit this restaurant a month ago for a special occasion. Received a reminder the evening before our restaurant booking asking us to confirm we would be there- we confirmed. We travelled quite a distance this evening 12/07/2022 and were met by a security guard who told us there was a private party so no admission!!! He referred me to their concierge who told me that they had emailed a week ago cancelling all bookings. They Hadn’t !! We were left high and dry with no reservation anywhere else, not that Ophelia’s cared. The concierge had the neck to suggest she could rebook me for another time!!! What??? to get blown off again if they get a better offer. I received a cancellation Email at 8.34pm 12/7/22 for my 7.15 reservation. Probably an attempt to avoid a bad review. Well folks don’t book this restaurant under any circumstances - it’s clear how much they disrespect their customers as they will cancel you (with no notice) if they get a better offer. Shame on you Ophelia’s - Disgraceful conduct - you do not deserve good customers.

Great place for pre dinner cocktails

By jblmdmba |

Fabulous views of the city lights in all directions from the 26th floor. Very eclectic cocktail menu you need to study before you arrive to make sure you choose some that will be worth the trek. Service was great. Would advise making a reservation. Interesting bar decorations.

All hype no delivery - we waited 55 mins and the drinks never came . . .

By J_Oliver_Cooke |

Ophelia is all show and no substance. We waited 55 minutes for our drinks before leaving, despite speaking to our waitress three times the drinks still didn’t arrive. We ended up leaving in displeasure to go to another venue. Ophelia markets itself as an ‘insiders’ venue, but we found the main clientele to be tourists with a mixed attire of jeans, shorts, sneakers and polo shirts.

Badly needs a new manager.

By samitp08 |

The experience was great until we got our check. There was an item on the bill which we did not order and asked the waiter to correct it. After a bit the manager comes by claiming that he personally saw that particular dish brought onto the table, basically stating that we lied. We had a long conversation with him but he kept on claiming that he saw it brought the item. At last, he agreed to take the item off the bill but did not change his stand about us being liars. The thing is, the waitress herself acknowledged that the item in question was delivered to table next to us and was a mistake, but guess what the manager still hold his stand and did not even acknowledge the fact that he was incorrect. I STRONGLY think this place needs a new manager.

The Beekman Classic Martini provides a setting for the marvelous views

By Marvin G |

The Ophelia Cocktail Lounge & Rooftop Bar is located at the Beekman Tower just North of the U.N. Building complex on 1st Avenue. We started going there years ago and it is one of our favorite watering holes due to the 360 degree views of the New York skyline, including the 59th Street Bridge and famous Pepsi Cola sign. The vibes of the City are accompanied by scintillating music beats. The drinks feature a generous pour and the menu matches the urban landscape. If we have friends visiting us, we always try to make it back for the ambiance. While the seating is questionable due to it facing inward, one may “take in the sights” by standing or walking around with your libation. While we were there for cocktail hour, the nighttime views are even more dazzling due to the blinking lights throughout the skyline. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words; visit Ophelia and take inspiration from what you see around you.

Way over hyped

By Gerhardie |

Poorly made drinks, sloppy service. Views are nice but the space is like a tarted up neighborhood dive.

Not for coeliacs

By A C |

Booked brunch here and enquired to ensure the menu could be made gluten free but was told it couldn’t be! I was so surprised as normally these sorts of places are making things freshly so can replace bread etc with gluten free options, really disappointing

Loved the View

By Heriberto Rodriguez |

The Sunday Brunch is a great option. My fiancé and I had a great time, loved the food options; not too large, but big enough. The drinks are out of this world, and the service was pretty prompt. The view is magnificent. I have to say, a sunset dinner might be in the works! We will definetly be back!

Reservation not honored

By AZtraveler2 |

Save your time and look elsewhere. This place completely wasted our time and night out. Had a reservation made a month in advance not honored. Absolute biggest mistake of our vacation was coming here.

Roof top social, but no fireworks

By Robert S |

First and foremost, Ophelia's is a nice rooftop lounge and does have a 360 degree view of it's surroundings. Food was ok, service was ok. I don't believe either were above a 3 star. I just read the review by the person who was disappointed they did not get in for the 4th social and fireworks. Don't be. You could not actually see any fireworks from the lounge. I take that back, there was one spot, that if you leaned out and looked to the right, you did get a very small partial view of some fireworks. Oh yah, and you could see fireworks reflected in some of the other surrounding buildings glass. Sadly quite a few visitors, expecting to be able to see the fireworks, left disappointed to say the least.

A good option for indoor rooftop views

By ballenlevy |

We came here for the rooftop views which did not disappoint. It’s great that you can be indoors and still enjoy the sights on a chilly night. The location is not the greatest in terms of proximity to other interesting things but is worth checking out. If it were a nice night I might go somewhere else where you could be outdoors.

Skyline Sips & Crispy Potato Perfection at Ophelia Lounge

By Kika |

Ophelia Lounge is one of those NYC spots that instantly makes you sit up a little straighter the moment you step out of the elevator—because yes, you’re on the 26th floor (top floor!), and the views really are that beautiful. I went in November for a friend’s birthday, and it delivered the kind of “special night out” energy you want for a celebration: dim lighting and that soft, loungey atmosphere that makes you want to take your time. The ambiance is lovely. The space is on the smaller side (in a good way), and the lighting is low and flattering—perfect for a birthday toast. I reserved window seating but that really wasn't necessary. It looks like regardless of section, the views would not disappoint. Now to the part that matters to me: the food. We tried a few bites, and there were definite standouts. The crispy potato bites with caviar made me pause mid-conversation and go, “Wait—this is really good.” It could have used more caviar but I guess is there ever enough caviar? This was hands-down the “yum!” moment of the night and the item I’d order again without hesitation. We also had the lamb chop lollipops which were very good—flavorful, satisfying. The mini lobster taco, on the other hand, was just OK. Not bad, just not memorable compared to the other dishes. Overall, Ophelia Lounge is absolutely worth visiting for an intimate celebratory toast, a date-night spot that feels intimate or even a night out alone (which is what I plan to do the next go round).

Worth a visit

By giorgio m |

Not suitable for a comfortable dinner but perfect for a rich aperitif, with very appetizing dishes. Excellent views of the East River and 1st Avenue

Cocktails with a view!

By Freedom695345 |

Amazing cocktail menu. Incredible views. A must visit destination whether you are a New Yorker or tourist. I used to live in NYC and frequently met friends at Ophelia. Now that I moved away, I still meet up at Ophelia. Really a hidden gem. The mixologist Amir Babayoff makes the best cocktails around.

Great views, great cocktails, friendly mixologists

By ZenaRd |

Had drinks here with a friend. Better than expected. The cocktails are interesting and well made. Mixologists behind the bar very friendly. Views are fantastic. I would reserve a table because the place and tables fill up fast, we sat at the bar and enjoyed our visit. Great place to bring people and to host small gatherings.

Views: Stellar. Food + drink: Superb. SERVICE: HORRIFIC

By c r |

I went by myself after a grueling day, to repair with a nice drink and meal and end the day on a nice note.. but instead, had my day made even worse by server Mackensie, whose attitude, rudeness, and frank hostility I have never seen in any venue, in any city, around the world. And certainly not what I expect at Ophelia. I was sitting quietly in the window, enjoying the view, and hadn't even finished my one drink and appetizer yet when she stalked over and slapped the bill down, practically vibrating in anger (or detox or who knows), not even asking if everything so far was ok or what I wanted next. I had planned to have dinner. and don't think that plan is unreasonable. In fact I'd even said when I was seated, "one for dinner, please." So I then told her I'm not done yet, thanks, and she rolled her eyes, exhaled audibly, then stomped away angrily looking back scathingly several times over her shoulder. I am a quiet person and had just been sitting there with my drink for all of maybe 7 minutes, enjoying the city lights view. Mind you, there was a couple practically having sex at the next table, but she left them alone as apparently that was far less offensive than me just sitting there taking in the view, minding my own business, harming no one, keeping to myself, and if it matters, not that it should: perfectly well dressed for the venue and evening. I figured she'd get the message I wasn't done yet after I said I wasn't done... instead, she continued to harass me every 3 minutes or so by stomping back over with a look of pure disgust on her face, obnoxiously picking the bill up to check if the credit card or cash was there yet, then SLAMMING it down in frustration when it wasn't. This happened so many times, eventually someone at a different table noticed and started laughing, saying "man, what's her deal?" - It was that noticeable. Then she sent over a busboy to do the same. This went on for as long as I could bear it... no one ever even asked how my original drink and appetizer were, or what I'd like to order next... and then she just stood about 6 feet away from me just staring at me, jutting one hip out and then the other in extreme hostile frustration, as if I were ruining her whole life. Again: I came for a relaxing end to a horrible day, and just wanted to enjoy the surroundings (where incidentally I have been many other times and enjoyed fine) and think through some serious things. Due to her hostile weird harassing behavior, I not only never got to do that... I never got dinner, as I wasn't given the option. I'll never know why she decided she hated me on sight. I tried to find a manager on the way out and speak to him or her, but no one was around. Finally - I worked in restaurants myself before. I know it's not easy. And I am very generous with judging servers typically, and I also tip generously. This was extraordinary. I would never treat someone the way she did. Open hostility.

Really beautiful hidden gem with fabulous service

By Emma M |

I live a block away from the Ophelia, yet somehow had not heard of it until last night; which seems pretty incredible. I would fall into the young professional sort of category where a lot of my time in NYC is spent on rooftops, for work events and hanging out with friends. Regardless, the fact that this bar isn't so well known worked out well for me, as it was very calm for a Thursday night. A friend had suggested it as we were having dinner near my apartment and we fancied one more drink. I was slightly concerned about going to a lovely rooftop bar, as I'd returned home from work via spin class, put my laundry on, and was subsequently chilling in old jeans, tshirt, hair bundled back and no makeup. I half expected, and honestly wouldn't critique a beautiful bar, to be a bit snobbish about a girl rocking up in lounge around the apartment attire. Part of the charm probably came from the fact that nobody batted an eyelid; we were welcomed inside the truly beautiful bar and shown directly to seats. Service was prompt but not rushed, the ambiance was good- cool music, but we could hear each other speak. There were plenty of seats, but I imagine that the host had done a good job of carefully seating everybody so that there was still atmosphere and felt lively. The crowd was a little older, but it felt nice- chill and un-posed, which is refreshing for a NYC rooftop, especially one so beautifully decorated. Our drinks were wonderful; delicious, beautifully presented, and using top shelf ingredients (anybody else get annoyed paying close to $20 for a cocktail utilizing Smirnoff at some NYC hotspots?). Overall, this is a real gem, and I'm delighted to have it in the hood!

Beautiful Decor and the view!

Beautiful Decor and the view! Good for friends gathering, partying. Great cocktails. We love the vibes there, hope to come back again soon!

I apologize to all the tourists

As a Native New Yorker having gone to thousands of restaurants in NYC in my life, I still have a few that I always wanted to go to but somehow got lost in the fray. Ophelia is one of them primarily because of the historic building and great views. Let me stop here and say unfortunately that is the only things good about this restaurant. We made a reservation for the only available time of 5:15 which is an insane time to eat but we were told that was the only time available so it was what it was. When we arrived the check in person said that we had no reservation-strike #1 ( this is an old trick in some establishments). This restaurant is circular. There were a few people at the bar and a handful of tables were occupied. With about 80% of the restaurant still available for seating we were taken to an isolated place where we were directed to a seat that was a low stool facing at the glass wall. It looked like the most uncomfortable seat you could imagine. We refused the seat and were put even further into Siberia with no other guests. The waitress finally came to us. We asked for Chopin Vodka. The waitress didn't know what we were talking about although this was a standard vodka at any establishment that claimed to be "high class". We then asked for Stoli, a more plebian vodka . Again we got a blank stare from the waitress. Finally, after we pointed it out to her on the menu, she took our orders. After 20 minutes passed without us seeing another human being, waitress or guests I decided enough was enough and we got our coats and left. I ap-logize to all tourists that come to this restaurant looking to have a lovely night out-STAY AWAY

Poor service + smoking marijuana on the balcony

By Goliath2507 |

The place might be beautiful and the view speechless that’s not enough for a good evening. While touring the bar we literally saw people smoking pot on the rear balcony. Even though it was outside the smell was so strong that the staff couldn’t have ignored it. Instead bartenders seem to be very busy asking an old lady about her license permit for her service dog and they eventually ask the poor woman to leave. I am Not coming back. Poor service is ruining the whole view experience

Deafening

By Suziiiii |

Came because of the awesome pix of "Snow Globe in the Sky." The bar turned out to be very small area, in which hundreds were trying to cram into it and the two crescent wings a few steps down a few steps down, shouting at each other over the din. Managed to get a drink, admire the hanging lights, and fled.

Oddly empty

By Need To See It All |

This rooftop lounge has some excellent city views, and seems like it would be a great place with a bit more 'happening' vibe, but we found ourselves to be the only people in the whole bar most of the time we were there. Drinks were good, and service was if anything over-attentive (hard not to be!). Would go back, and aim for a more popular time.

Stunning - relaxed but pricey

By Alice BG |

This place is nothing to look at from outside, the lift is rickety and you wonder what you’re heading into but stick with it. It’s beautiful once you’re up there and we’ll worth the price tag which isn’t much higher than other bars around. We visited on a Sunday evening and it was pretty quiet up there - a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan below!

Cancelled my booking for private function

By KS_Maldon |

Would love to tell you about the NY skyline and tasty cocktails, but can’t. Booked Ophelia 2 months ago for 10pm Sunday drinks as visiting from the UK. Opentable emailed twice to confirm my booking. Upon arriving was told to come back later as a private function had been extended! Nice! I’m sure they will be in touch to refund my wasted cab fare........

Disappointing place with poor service

By agnes9971 |

We came here for a birthday gathering. The place is cozy and nice at first glance. The view is amazing and vibe relaxing with pretty good music. The waitress took her time with us and didn’t clear plates and provide table settings in a timely fashion. Drinks are ok but not amazing. Food is pretty good. Tuna tartare is superb. Wine we ordered later in the evening, came watered down so it tasted like water mixed with wine! To finish off the celebration, we wanted cake and candle for the birthday girl. They didn’t have any! How disappointing. We were also charged for extra drinks. This place can be so much more with the amazing view and cozy vibe. It needs lots of work.

Gorg Space Awful Service

By Valery L |

We wanted to love this place as I live next door.... Upon being greeted, we were immediately directed to stay put before even getting off the elevator (after another couple jumped in front of us in line). We were then given the runaround on seating locations when other guests relocated to our reserved spot and then we were asked to sit behind them not at a window. The hostess was more rude than I’ve experienced in a long time in Nyc. Waitress was also unfriendly and cold. Gentleman who served the drinks was awesome, but unfortunately a little too late to fix the poor human contacts we received prior. Good music, gorgeous atmosphere and views, but my gosh they need to hire better people to work there.

The best rooftop bar in NYC

By lucy222018 |

I recently visited NYC with my friend (25 year old females) and we went to the Ophelia bar for cocktails on our second night in the city. My friend had been recommended this place by a colleague and it did not disappoint. The view is incredible and there are sections to sit inside or out depending on the weather. One of the best things is that you do not have to pay to enter- just for the drinks you order and also there is no minimum spend (some bars in NYC require a $65/person spend at the bar to sit outside). Overall a wonderful experience.

great views

Good atmosphere with great view across the East River. The service was good as were the small plates and the Rioja.

Snow Globe

By Lolly’s Look |

The Ophelia Lounge NYC was transformed into a giant snow globe for the Christmas season. We made our way to the rooftop at the Beekman Tower and had window seats with a breathtaking views. It was a nice start to the evening with Prosecco toasts before dinner.

Go for the view and a drink.. food appalling.. don't eat there!

By patmurphy01 |

Views of NY are great but food was a huge disappointment and claustrophobic table settings were disgraceful.. 4 people at a tiny circular table on high stools.. no wonder the food offerings were tiny.. kept getting bumped by people trying to get by.. were asked how we wanted our lamb cooked but what came out was plonked down and when we asked which was medium and which was rare .. we were told its all medium and if you have a problem with that go talk to who took who took your order.. Needless to say that person never materialised again so we were left with inedible food that was both cold and not what was ordered. In summary, tiny portions of inedible cold food.. go for a drink and see the view but don't eat.. worst NY food experience ..you can do so much better everywhere else in the big A

Hostess needs retraining

By PuglieseRN |

We visited on Saturday , May 17, 2025 at about 7:45pm. It was early for a Saturday eve. We did not have reservations, but we were staying at the Beekman, and wanted to grab some drinks and light bites . We had thought this is fine as Ophelias noted that on their website and confirmed when we called . When we arrived , the hostess who worked on Saturday May 17,2025 was extremely rude, and quite frankly , discriminating, noting we “could not order anything” while we could order drinks, she instructed us we “cannot sit down anywhere , even the bench’s outside”. This felt very discriminatory to our group who needed some accommodation. It was also quite surprising as the tables were less than filled and not busy. This particular hostess created a very uncomfortable atmosphere and needs to be retrained on ADA law and policies , and how to accommodate customers fairly and appropriately .

Nice views, rubbish seating, left confused.

By David W |

I felt the website is a little misleading. It does have lovely nighttime views but the seating is awful. Much of it faces away from the view strangely so you crane around constantly. Some stools do face it but not many. There is like one proper table to eat at otherwise you have low coffee style tables to eat at, which are fine for snacks only. However it tries to be more than a snack bar.. what is it ? Bar snacks or proper dinner? I went for dinner and was so disappointed despite the food being tasty. It's a roof top bar masquerading as a restaurant and to be honest the staff were really cold. Pop in for a drink or 2 then go for dinner at a decent restaurant.

Worth the Visit

By _glbetrkkr_ |

I wonder why this place doesn’t have a higher rating. We came for a birthday celebration and enjoyed every minute. Staff were friendly and checked in frequently. There were unbeatable views of the surrounding area including the East River. Prices err on the expensive side, but we’re tasty. The steak really hit the spot. We also ordered shrimp cocktail, deviled egg and spinach/artichoke dip. If you’re a martini snob, note they don’t have proper martini glasses, but it was still tasty.

Amazing last evening in New York

By Trump84 |

I've been in NYC for a week with my wife, the last evening before the flight back to Italy we decided to move in one of the famous rooftop bar of the city. The problem was the cold and the rain, so after a long research we found this place. It's very comfortable cause they have closed balconies and also open balconies all around. The bar is very elegant , modern with some weird ornament (like the skeleton of a double headed bird)... we decided to have some drinks and grab somethinf to eat . It's more like a Tapas bar, so don't you expect to eat like a normal resturant. Cocktails very well done, and food normal.... The view is really nice and romantic. The only problem in my opinion are the prices of the tapas, in my opinion tooo high....i can understand that i have to pay the location, but at least give me something more to eat. At the end a nice experience....a little bit empty.....probabli they need more promotion, or maybe they just open , but they deserve a gooda rating... Sorry for any kind of mistakes but I'm italian

Great View

By bigjoe950 |

One thing I liked about Ophelia Bar is the music, while loud, didn’t blow out my ears. Yes, the ubiquitous bass pounded constantly, , but we could have a conversation without shouting. Great views, too.

Super nice view

By SanF31 |

We booked a table a long time ago but our table wasn't ready when we arrive. We had to wait 30 minutes. What's the purpose of booking then ? Other than that, view is amazing and music is cool. We had a charcuterie board, cheese and meet were really good . I would recommend this place if you are not in a hurry.

Awful Afternoon Tea

By Sophia L |

I won’t recommend come back again, first of all, there’s only one waitress taking order. After ordering our tower it took nearly 30-45 mins for the food to come. The food were like Costco pre made sandwiches which was not tasty at all. Everything was not fresh. I doubt everything was made on the point and was plated with pre made sandwiches. Secondly the drinks, you guys can skip. It was not worth the price and not much booze to the cocktails. The desserts tower was awesome all store bought macarons and little bite cake. Overall the services were not good at all the waitresses didn’t explained what the tower and I would save money and go to other afternoon tea instead.

New Years Eve celebrations.

By James W |

This restaurant is the most over rated and super expensive bar lounge in NYC. The New Years Eve celebration was billed as an all inclusive event. It consisted of simple h’orderves, a bottle of champange and bar drinks. A small postage stamp table with bar type seating and DJ music. For that experience it cost $1000 per person. What a rip off!
