We had a great dining experience here. The food was very good and the service even better. From the hostess to the server to the owner to the chef. We actually wanted to sit near the back of the restaurant and they only had small tables so they actually moved a larger table to accommodate us. And with ZERO attitude! This usually does not occur in NYC restaurants! This is a great restaurant if you're visiting your child at Columbia University and want to feed them a great meal.

Went here for Friday night dinner (with reservation) with family member who lives in the area plus some his friends from the area. Easy to access - 2 blocks from #1 subway. Pleasant surroundings with very pleasant, attentive staff. Menu is diverse with many Italian options. Multiple entrees ordered, including specials of the day - all excellently prepared and presented. Desserts were also excellent. Would definitely consider return visit when visiting the area in the future.

Very good trattoria, gnocchi and fresh pasta. Very nice home. Fair price. I will return with great pleasure on my next trip to NY.

Clean spacious space, a great place for quiet conversation and a delicious Italian meal. There is more than typical pasta dishes. Service is wonderful!

We called and booked a table with Alessandro, who got us in right away. Service was friendly and jovial. And the pizza...mama mia, the best I've had outside of Roma. The pizza chef is from Rome, and they have a wood burning oven. This makes all the difference in the world. We had the arugula/pear salad, which was fresh and light. For desert, we had the panna cotta with caramel sauce. This came with a sprig of fresh mint. Honestly, the best meal we've had in NYC our visit thus far, and the price was VERY reasonable, just like it would be in Italy. Thank you Ale!

I was meeting up with my best friend after 2 years, we decided to eat italian food, and somehow we decided on this relatively new spot; one always wants to try the next dinner spot in the city! We went there clueless that Ortomare Ristorante will be our home feel-go to italian place. We were greeted by the host and soon by the friendly waiter, as our dinner progressed, the owner also came to wish us a pleasant” stay” yes we felt like staying! We ordered Sangovese wine from a great selection of italian wines. With the help of a waiter, we started our dinner with fresh Tomatoe and mazzarella appetizer, and than we ordered the best homemade Gnocchi pasta and a must try white italian pizza, to continue with what tasted like the freshiest I have had fish Bronzino, and to finish with the delicious homeade pana cotta and a real italian espresso. The staff were attentive, and friendly, but made sure not to disturb your dinner. Place was super clean and well maintained, and what a pleasure it was to be welcomed by the owner. Overall a great dining experience, definitely going back. Ortomare Ristorante Pizzeria and staff, thank you for serving amazing food, and making us feel home in the buzzing city.

When looking for a restaurant in the area, Ortomare Ristorante popped up on our radar and seemed to have a menu that would appeal to our entire group, plus we were able to get a last minute reservation. Basing a restaurant choice on location, reviews and menu with no first-hand knowledge can be a little risky, but in this case our decision paid off. Ortomare was the perfect choice. Delicious food, great wine and excellent service. In fact the staff were some of the friendliest we have found in NYC. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for hearty food in this area close to north Central Park, St. John the Divine and Columbia University.

A couple of months ago we moved from Italy to NYC. On Sunday, after we finished exploring Central Park with our three children, we wanted to see Columbia University. Walking from Central Park to Columbia we saw Ortomare and as the children were hungry, we stopped and had brunch. The place was very clean and very warm with festive decorations. Our children had the Margherita Pizza and Penne Rosate. They loved it. I had the Vegetariana and my husband the Rigatoni alla Norma. The pasta was perfectly cooked al dente and the Pizzas were just like in Italy. We couldn’t drink as we had the day ahead but they have a choice of non alcoholic beer, which tasted great. The place was pretty busy so I recommend to make a reservation to have the table guaranteed. So far, this is the most italian food that we had in NYC since we moved from Italy. The homemade Tiramisu was tasty and light, the way I do it home. In bocca al lupo Ortomare 🇮🇹🇺🇸

Visiting the neighbourhood from England with family. Incredible welcome with the beet pizza I’ve ever eaten…by a country mile!!! Outstanding, can’t recommend highly enough! WOW factor!

We had the Branzino, chicken parm, a delicious salad of fried artichokes. The pasta is homemade and the sauce was delicate. The owner is super friendly and accommodated our special requests easily. There were families, couples and even singles dining around us. What a friendly place.

I lived in Italy and I know what Italian Pizza is supposed to be. And at Ortomare I found the real Italian Pizza. Thin crust and fresh ingredients. I am a truffle fun and I ordered the Tartufata. It was delicious, extremely aromatic. The tiramisu was homemade and tasted great too. The atmosphere is very simple but attractive. Loved this place and I highly recommend it.

My wife and my one year old have been here several times since it opened. Last time we visited was on Thanksgiving together with another friend. Their Thanksgiving menu was great with a very reasonable price. The turkey was cooked perfectly, soft and juice. Best turkey I have ever tried. The stuffing was delicious too. The turkey soup was amazing. The turkey pizza was wonderful too. We loved also the Pumpkin cheesecake. Our baby loves to eat the pizza bread that they give for free to every table. They made us feel like family on Thanksgiving. This is our favorite family dinner spot. Absolutely recommended.

I was last night with my friends at Ortomare! Cozy and very comfortable place! We ordered penne rosate, branzino, ortomare pizza, stuffed chicken with shiitake mushrooms! The food was very tasty and nice portions! A lot of wine and drinks choices! Service was fast and very professional, we had a great evening at Ortomare Definitely we are going back again and highly recommend this place! Thank you Ortomare!!

I visited Ortomare last week with my family. We searched in Google for Italian restaurant near our hotel and Ortomare showed up. All the reviews recommended this place and we decided to try it and we loved it. The food was well prepared. We had 2 pizzas, gnocchi and the steak. Both pizzas were so good. Steak was cooked right and tasted wonderful. The gnocchi were homemade and the mozzarella cheese on top was fresh. The service was very friendly. Our waiter was so nice. We had a great time. The price was very reasonable too. Next time visiting NY will be back for sure too.

We received exceptionally fine service after a long day of walking New York City from 2 wait staff with good humor offering attentive service. And such delicious food! We enjoyed Bietole e spinaci—a salad of red beets, baby spinach, walnuts and goat cheese in a balsamic dressing; main course: Braciola di Pollo—a generous serving enough for the two of us of stuffed chicken with spinach and fontina, shiitake and marsala sauce, mashed potatoes. If we lived in NYC (but we don't), we would definitely be back!

I visited with my daughter last weekend for dinner. The place was pretty busy and the service was great. The food came out pretty quickly. We loved the pumpkin pizza and the red beets salad. Fresh and tasty. My daughter goes to Columbia and they have a 10% discount for Columbia students. That is a great promotion especially for students. I recommend to everybody who wants to enjoy real Italian food in a friendly and clean place. The Fall decorations are so pretty too.

Great food, great service! In this place the service is always great and every plate is delicious and special. I am so happy to have found it and for sure it will be on top of my list for every dining decision.

I am not familiar with the neighborhood but I had to visit a friend here. She suggested Ortomare and I am so very glad another friend and I decided to try Ortomare. The food was delicious and the price reasonable. The staff is super friendly and attentive. They have prix fixe menu for lunch and it is well worth trying it. My friend and I even ended with ordering for take out. This is a relatively new restaurant and I hope that people will discover this neighborhood gem.

This is by far the best place I went! Amazing food, great drinks. Customer service was amazing. They had plenty menu options. If your looking for great italian food, this is the place to go! They also have wood fired pizza. A bar. The scenery is great. Im definitely going back! A must try for everyone!

My dinner last night at Ortomare was simply amazing. The ceaser salad with shrimps tasted fresh and delicious. Ortomare Pasta was great too. Defenitely a great spot in Upper West Side to be back soon.

This is a great place to have real italian pizzas. Me and my friend visited the place on Friday night. The menu is pretty rich with salads, veggies, fish, meat, pasta and pizza. We came here for the pizza, and the pizza choices were great too, divided in white and red pizzas. I am a white pizza lover, so I chose the Truffle Pizza, made with real truffle cream, not just with truffle oil, and the price was not too high. My friend got the Norcina Pizza. Both pizzas were great. We sat close to the pizza station. Pizzaiolo was very friendly too. And the wood fired brick oven looked amazing. While waiting for our order they gave us on the house a basket with pizza bread, and olive cream. That was fantastic too. Homemade cheesecake was delicious. Definitely will be back.

Went for a quick dinner early Saturday evening. Great space inside and nice outdoor dining space as well. We sat inside and felt very comfortable. Caesar salad was delicious and the bread served with it was awesome. Pizzas are amazing and just like Naples! Service was excellent.

We visited Ortomare last night with my family. Everything looks clean and so perfect. The staff is very attentive and knowledgable. Eddie is a very nice guy. The menu has a great selection of Italian pastas and pizzas. Also there is Seafood and Meat in the main course section. The pizza has a rich flavor, I guess it comes from the wood fire oven. I ate the Norcina Pizza, it was delicious. My husband got the salmon and he loved it. Portions are big and the price is very reasonable. Our meals where absolutely delicious and I highly recommend it. A great spot in Upper West Side.

On a recent trip to NYC a friend and I stumbled across this fantastic restaurant. We chose it because we luckily found parking across the street and it seemed crowded. (Always a good sign). The service was great, but the food was even better. We had lasagna and pasta with bolognese sauce. Both were really, really good. The bolognese sauce, which is always my go-to when traveling, was some of the best I've ever had. Can't say enough about this great little neighborhood restaurant and the food. Highly recommend you try it when in the area. I will most definitely be back!!!

Excellent food - best gnocchi I have ever had in a rich tomato sauce. Delicious pizzas. High quality cheeses and fresh, well-balanced salads. Very friendly owner. We will be back.

We dined in this restaurant in 5 eating a great pizza that has nothing to envy to those in Italy (said by Italians). Super quality, very nice place. Friendly staff. Great experience. We recommend! Thank you, and good luck!

It's no secret that NYC has plenty of pizza spots however if you are looking for wood-fired oven pizza that is to die for then you have to try Ortomare. They also offer a variety of other dishes including healthy options so everyone at your table will be happy. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. You can tell by the quality of the food that they use the best ingredients however the prices are very reasonable. Will definitely come back and I look forward it.

Staying with a friend in the neighborhood and she suggested this restaurant. The location is perfect if you were staying at the University. Great outdoor seating for a beautiful summer night. Inside is very comfortable and full bar area if tables are full. Ordered a plate of spinach and mushroom pasta… The pasta was fresh but the rest was really bland bland. I think it needed some butter or other fat/protein. Everything that came out of the kitchen… Pizzas, salads etc. looked really good. I was only in the mood for pasta. Next time I will try a salad or pizza. They make a wonderful Aperol Spritz. 👍

Just got two pizzas, delivered by grub hub. Ordering to delivery was very fast, but’s that’s the only positive. Margherita pizza is supposed to be crispy, ours was soggy. The second pie was supposed to have sausage and mushrooms, but there was very little of either and this pie was also disgustingly soggy. I really hoped to have good pizza during our visit to NY but after two tries we quit. We are going home to have good, hot crispy pizza.

First time visiting Ortomare...good food,friendly service. Nice neighborhood Italian with good pasta. Will try a pizza next time..the oven looks impressive.

Me and my husband came in the city to meet our son at Columbia Univeristy and took him for dinner at Ortomare. This new place is simply amazing. I ate the branzino fillet that tasted delicious. My husband got the Ravioli. The portions are big and the food is very fresh. Our son got the Tartufata pizza. Very rich flavor of truffle, great taste.The staff is very nice and friendly. We had a great time and looking forward to go back soon.

Impeccable celebration for an Italian's eighteenth birthday in New York. Excellent pizza restaurant, attention to quality, price, service, with special attention to the customer.

Me, my husband and my two boys visited this place at the end of October on a Saturday night, after visiting the Cathedral of St.John the Devine. We searched in Google for a pizza place and Ortomare came first. We were impressed from the reviews and we didn’t hesitate to give a try. My husband ordered the steak, me the salmon and my boys shared a Margherita Pizza. We all enjoyed our food. Fresh and cooked right. They had as a special the Nutella Pizza, and we got it as a dessert with banana and almonds on top. That was amazing. The staff was super friendly. The place was pretty crowded and we were not rushed. When we will be in the area will be back for sure. Thank you for a delightful dinner ORTOMARE ❤️

We visited NYC from Rome at the beginning of November. Our hotel concierge recommended Ortomare as it was close to our hotel. At Ortomare we ate the best food during our stay in NYC. Real italian food with a very reasonable price. The pumpkin ravioli were the best with pumpkin seeds on top. And the homemade tiramisu was excellent. Next time to New York I will visit for sure again this great place.

I was with my husband at this restaurant , the food was very good ! They have a variety of pastas to choose from, pizza, fish, and the most delicious desserts 😋 I highly recommend this place and I’m definitely going back 😍

I visited two times this place during this month. A real italian cuisine with wood fired brick oven pizza. So far I have tried the Calamari, Ortomare Antipasti, Pizza Quattro Formaggi and Salmon. Big portions and the taste was great. Friendly service. The place is very clean and the staff looks very dedicated. To be mentioned that they have also a great selection of wines and drinks. I am not a dessert fan. I ordered a fruit platter and even it was not in the menu they prepared it for me. Highly recommend it and definitely will be back soon.

I visited Ortomare with three friends of mine to celebrate a birthday. We had three course meal for dinner. We shared different appetizers. All were so good, especially Caprese and Artichokes with Zucchini. We got the truffle pizza, Chicken, Salmon and all were delicious. Desserts very tasty, I loved the dark chocolate cake, rich and flavory. The staff was very attentive and made us feel so good. I will definitely go back soon, as I don’t live very far. Great job Ortomare.

Since we walked in until we left we felt like family. The server was great and treated us very good. I had Cesare salad and my sister had Caprese. Both salads were fresh and tasty. I got the Pizza Quattro Stagioni. The crust was perfect, real authentic pizza. We were seated close to the pizza place, and I enjoyed looking at the wood fired brick oven, it gave me a relaxation sensation. My sister got the homemade fettuccine with wild mushrooms, which were great too. The decaf cappuccino was the best I had ever had. This place is now in my list when I am craving italian food and pizza. Ortomare staff does a superb job. Will definitely return soon
