Charming!

By shereallyateitall |

Absolutely delicious food, all fish and vegetarian. Despite my love for a good steak, I found so much to commend about this place: the pasta dish I had was marvelous and my companion's fish was divine. I only discovered this sweet spot when I paused to scan their menu and two people going in separately stopped to give me a quick rave review. Lovely, lovely atmosphere, intimate, unhurried and warm. Service was attentive and helpful. I will definitely be back!

Outstanding

An outstanding Italian restaurant with a stylish, yet cozy atmosphere. The starters and pasta were incredibly delicious. Great wine selection. Extremely friendly staff and very personal talk with the chef.

Memorable Restaurant on West 10th

By David King |

We enjoyed a lovely brunch/lunch here with our daughter, son in law and Granddaughter on the 12th. It was a warm winter day and we reserved one of the tables in the annex portion of the restaurant “outdoors.” The space is very comfortable and includes heat, window and carpeting. Our server, Marina was excellent and we couldn’t have been more pleased with the service. Our bus attendant was also very nice. The food was outstanding, nicely presented and delicious. We ordered Mimosas, Brussels Sprouts Salad, Roasted Cauliflower Salad, Avocado Toast, Pappardelle, French Toast, Paccheri Pomodoro and Purgatorio. All outstanding!!! We love this restaurant on the prettiest street in NYC and will be back.

A hidden gem

By bergfischer |

Great place, nice place! The benches where not too comfortable but the food and service make up for it! Best fluke crudo and very good veggies as appetizers. Fresh, first rate scalops with some greenery or pasta with lobster meat as a main dish, all expertly prepared and served. Even the bread is excellent. The exoitic fruit ice creams alone, at desert, are worth a visit. First class, friendly service. The prices are elevated, but worth it.

Excellent Italian food!

By Bob T |

Delicious and well prepared and presented Italian food in a lovely setting. The pasta dishes we had were all excellent. Prices are reasonable for the portions and quality. We will definitely return!

Amazing vegetarian

By architamodi1 |

Outstanding service and food. They have so many vegetarian options and everything we ordered was so good (gnocchi, red sauce pasta and much more). Cute place. Would def come back

Nouveau Italian Surprise

By Parlins1207 |

This restaurant is a gem. Ambiance, service and food! The preparations are what I would call nouveau Italian. The unusual blends of flavors are extraordinary. Don't be turned away by lack of meat and poultry. And...the prices are reasonable. Try it! You will not be disappointed. Parlins1207

Bustling with activity yet romantic and warm

By GENEVIEVE S |

We were celebrating a milestone birthday for a very dear friend. There were 16-17 of us and we were given the back room ( actually too small for us!) - but it was their biggest room, I believe. This venue was bustling with laughter, merriment and clinking of wine glasses. It’s rustic look with its toned down lights definitely brought warmth, romance and intimate ambiance. Osteria definitely knows how to bring out the best of their Seafood and Italian ingredients on the table. My husband and I ordered the Risotto Giallo with mussels and calamari and their Red Snapper with Sardinian Fregola . They were very flavorful and rich and paired beautifully with robust and earthy reds. It’s definitely worth going back !

Can't say a single bad thing!

By Racwoh |

Wow, was the food delicious! DELICIOUS!!! And then some more delicious!!! The place was super cute, the service amazing - the waitress thought our dinners weren't arriving quickly enough, so she brought us some wine! (Possibly was tired of hearing of us bickering with our son and wanted us out, but hey, she KNEW we definitely needed more wine, right? Son moving to NYC, IKEA trips....who wouldn't need more wine?!) Wonderful, wonderful place! Every bite was amazing. Loved the monkfish, cauliflower, burrata... and All. The. Pasta! Sooo good. And so glad my son has moved to this area.... (once the IKEA trips are done). We'll be back! Sooooo much!

My new favourite restaurant in New York city

By rhobru |

This is a unique find. The food is tasty and innovative. Highly recommended and not over priced. The burrata and grilled peaches and artichokes with avocado are outstanding! My son loved the fettucini di mare al nero. I adored the tomato basil pasta tubes and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the eggplant . Each course including desert was simply out of this world. I hope to return really soon!

Great G-F food, great, period

By Andrew K |

Talk about surpassing expectations: food, service, ambiance, value are all excellent. Gluten-Free bread offered along with regular, for a $2 surcharge. Pastas wonderful, G-F and non, as were sides of Broccolini and appetizer of Cauliflower. Can't wait to return.

Love this place!

By Jean B |

First I must confess my mistake of making a reservation for a day later than we arrived, but they were wonderful and accommodated us immediately at a quiet corner table for 5. Our server was fantastic, he knew all the specials and made recommendations when asked. The kitchen easily made a substitution without any hassle when asked. The service was just what you want when out for a special meal, our needs were anticipated before we asked (water, silverware, wine). Although we talked among ourselves about it being a birthday dinner we did not ask or mention it to our server, but at the end of the meal although we declined dessert a sweet treat arrived with a birthday candle to end the night on a high note.

Great Find

By joetacci |

wandered in after seeing the sign on the street. what a spectacular find. Nice menu loaded with interesting dishes. Especially liked the octopus salami, Alaskan salmon crudo, ribollita toscana (bread soup), and shrimp gnocchi. damn! reasonably priced and very comfortable atmosphere. the owner (i think they said his name was 'Mano' or something like that) was very welcoming and hospitable. they are doing some very unique things that are eco-friendly and supporting sustainable practices. while thats not what i am generally look for when i choose a place to eat, i have to say it made me feel good to support them (on top of a great meal).

NYC Dinner

By Heather U |

We visited this restaurant based on the review's. The drink selection was OK and the food selection was acceptable. They served fresh bread and olives, very authentically Italian. We ordered fresh pasta with pesto and shrimp. The food was OK but lacked flavor and pizzazz. The flavor fell flat and did not wow me to want to come back again. It was an average meal that could have packed more of a flavour punch. Perhaps some fresh parmesan on the pasta would have elevated the meal?

Our first dinner at this little GEM!

By Lavieenrose56 |

My husband & I love to try new small restaurants around the city. What a lovely dinner! Such a warm welcome, authentic but simple decor, very pleasant music, then the delicious food! I rarely enjoy such a tasty filet of branzino. We will come back!

Delicious Pescatarian

By PDiddy913 |

Cozy and romantic little spot in the village with both vegetarian and seafood menu selections. Service was great and the pasta cooked perfectly. Friday night was busy but we were able to get a table without a reservation. They've chosen to focus on a few menu items and do them very well. Location is a little difficult to find in the evening with the restaurant being below street level and currently shadowed with construction scaffolding, but well worth the effort.

Great Italian food in the West Village!

By Emma G |

My husband and I died at Osteria 57 with another couple and had a wonderful time, mostly thanks to our delightful waitress, Martina. We are Italian and when she heard us speaking Italian, she immediately switched languages, but her English is EXCELLENT so we went back and forth. She made the evening really special with her friendly service and excellent recommendations. We are super picky about Italian food, and we were not disappointed by any of the dishes; everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. We will definitely go back! My only problem was it was rather loud and kind of dark, so it was a little hard to hear and we couldn't read the menu without the light from our phones.

Average

By bedasaka |

Despite the very lovely looking outside seating vestibules we decided to sit inside. First mistake! It was hot and stuffy in the restaurant and we had a very small table. Our French waitress was delightful. We were served stale focaccia and sour dough which was a disappointment. The crispy cauliflower lacked flavour and the accompanying horseradish (which I love) and paprika aioli was unpleasant. The octopus was nice as was the monkfish. However the pea ravioli turned up as something unrecognisable. My Italian partner and I were also confused when our pasta and secondi arrived at the same time. When we asked they said they ran out of ravioli and so gave us fusilli with a pea sauce, we returned the item and didn’t order a replacement. My partner ordered the chocolate mousse for desert which he enjoyed. We left the restaurant 55 minutes after arriving.

5 stars isn't enough!

By George A |

In a city know for fine dining, this place is an absolute stand-out. The atmosphere is cozy and quite with appealing decor. Their staff is among the best I have ever experienced. Very friendly and attentive, they made us feel like we were regulars (which we will be now, every time we come to NYC). You're probably wondering about the food? It was exceptional! Perfectly cooked fish. Fresh, vibrant, savory flavors that were well paired. Wonderful custom cocktails. Amazing desserts. I'd give them 6 stars if it was an option.

Best Italian

By Achint |

Such a cute small place which has an amazing vibe. The service is outstanding too. The vegetarian options are loads and flavorful.

Absolutely fantastic!

By WFR |

The food was absolutely amazing, supremely authentic Italian fare —it took me back to Italy. The pasta was simply perfect and the dessert was sublime! I will become a regular and recommend it to everyone I know. Osteria 57 is absolutely superb!

Healthy, fresh and delicious from start to finish

By Nathalie De Clercq |

Healthy, delicious Italian food at it's best. A mouthwatering pescatarian menu, it was hard to decide what to have. I went with the specials, melty burrata and cordone mushroom salad accompanied by the spicy eggplant pasta dish. Exquisite! Paired with the recommended wines which were well selected. Cozy and cool vibe. Modern, tasteful decor. There's also a great group room in the back. Highly recommended. Will be back for sure.

Ambiance

By M. |

This place has been on my radar for a while and I'm so glad I was finally able to dine here this past weekend. Since indoor dining was prohibited at the time, we dined outside in the intimate space that was created. It was setup in away that followed social distancing guidelines which made me comfortable. With that said, this restaurant is a well-oiled machine. The staff and service were some of the best I've encountered. And we have to talk about how incredible the food and cocktails are. Each meal was beautifully plated and tasted amazing. You can tell they take pride in their dishes to create a memorable experience. I can't wait to go back!

Romantic

By UwchlanJohn |

We made a reservation based on table availability through Open Table and vegetarian menu offerings. We have a few favorite restaurants in NYC, particularly in the Village, but thought we might try a new place. We arrived quite early but they seated us immediately. We were given a table at the far back end of the restaurant in a tight but very comfortable corner. It was a very nice and quiet spot, many might call romantic. The food was delicious and the service, excellent. We would return in a heartbeat.

Good food, a little snug.

By abecedarius |

Four of enjoyed a Friday night dinner here, and everything was good and reasonably priced. Delicious gnudi, baby artichokes and crocchette bacalla. Dessert cannoli made in Sicily!

Dim but delicious

By JeffersonLondon |

First off, if you are over 40, bring your phone - you'll need the torch to read the menu as it's the lighting is definitely set to romantic. The staff were really clued up with regard to gluten free options and were well-versed in the difference between intolerance and coeliac disease which makes life so much easier. The avocado and artichoke tian was utterly delicious and so good it made you want to cry out with joy. Then there was some gluten free penne (not the best I've had, but perfectly reasonable) with a heavenly tomato sauce topped with a burrata which melted into the sauce. Just what you need on a cold autumn evening. There was a chocolate mousse which was both gluten free and vegan, so suitable for those intolerant to dairy too, but rich as it was I missed the dairy. A really great meal, in tasteful surroundings, with wonderful staff.

Good, authentic Italian food.

By onthemach |

There are not 'real" Italian restaurant left in NYC. Osteria 57 fares are prepared following the tradition of simple Italian cuisine. The establishment is a bit noisy so a reservation for the outside patio is recommended. Ivano, the Manager, takes excellent care of his guests.

When you are looking for a really cozy restaurant with fabulous food

By H-J |

This is the place if your a looking for a restaurant with great service and food. Its a cozy restaurant with dishes cooked with Italian love.

Perhaps this was an off night

By trav226 |

The pasta was gummy and barely warm; the appetizers bland; the vegan chocolate with blueberries managed to make both taste pretty bad. Also it was super loud and cramped. People beside us had to move their table so we could sit down. And anyone having to go to the bathroom near us required us to move our table. Overall the atmosphere here made it very hard to enjoy a relaxing dinner. The incredibly uncomfy seats didn't help.

The only good part was the free olives

By Eric R |

Caveating that this is a new restaurant so they’ll have time to work out any kinks I would hope but I was not a fan of this place. - The service was very slow - the only protein on the menu is seafood. So if you’re not feeling like pasta or seafood, you’re out of luck. No chicken, beef, nada - the time between the apps and the mains was very long. - The menus we got were all different unbeknownst to us and two gluten intolerant people ordered a meal that ended up having a lot of gluten in it. - they sent out two free desserts for all the issues (tho I honestly would have preferred some of my meal comped), one of which was a semifreddo which was basically a block of ice. You can probably skip this place.

Great location and very well deserved.

The Special Italian Menu for this week was superb. The Battered Crispy Cauliflower w/Smoked Paprika Sauce. The Sea Scallops, English Peas, Fregola and Pickled Sallots The Large Pasta Tubes w/S. Marzano Tomatoes, Basil and Fresh Burratta Cheese The Mediterranean Sea Bass Filet, Fennel Soubise, Spring Onion and Salsa Verde The Panna Cotta Everything was a delicacy and melted in your mouth. Our waiter Emmanuele went above and beyond the call of duty, very attentive, always a smile and repeating the name.

A Great Find

By HAS_NYC |

We wanted to go to a different restaurant nearby, but the wait was way to long. We did not have a reservation, but were told they could seat us if we were willing to wait 5-10 minutes. After a short time we were escorted to a corner table for two in the second room to the rear. The restaurant was packed with tables in lively conversation. We shared a unique appetizer of grilled artichoke and avocado. The combination was rich and very tasty. For main courses we had grilled Branzino with a butternut squash puree and a fish special of Long Island Fluke prepared milanese with arugala and cherry tomato salad on top. With a squirt of fresh lemon, it was perfection. We ordered a rose from Provence that was priced right a wonderful accompliment. We will be back

Perfection

By hereandthereandthere |

This is perfection -- or at least as close as it gets. Cozy, quaint, beautifully decorated, incredibly thoughtful staff from the moment you arrive. Unpretentious but highly sophisticated food - all done to perfection. This restaurant is my most favourite recent NYC experience. I will return again and again!

Not great value

By Andy H |

Food wasn’t bad but very expensive, even for New York. Cauliflower starter was too big, half the portion and price would be fine. Pasta dish was good but a bit hard… mire undercooked than al dente… Staff and ambiance both all very nice

Best Seafood in the Village

By baronscarpia2015 |

Ann and I have lived in Greenwich Village for 53 years. Osteria 57 is a welcome addition to the neighborhood: wonderful seafood, charming setting, friendly hosts and staff. My wife is not a big fan of seafood, but she loved the mahi mahi with mixed vegetables. Good selection of wine and beer.

Village Delight

By AJAX6965 |

We ate with friends at Osteria. Sampled the menu, Burrata, Calamari, Zucchini Blossoms, followed by Bronzino, Tagliatelle, Casio e Pepe and Linguini. No complaints. Very good service. Crowded and fairly noisy.

Tuna tartare was amazing

By Sofia Mehta |

Me and my husband went there this weekend, pure luck we were walking by and saw this restaurant and decided maybe we could have dinner there if they had a table. They sat us right away, which was very nice. For appetizer we had the tuna tartare and was absolutely divine!!! We loved it! My husband had the branzino and he said it was really tasty, me on the other hand picked the pasta with burrata (had a root canal the day before and wanted something easy to chew) but I was a bit disappointed at my dish. I mean...it was a regular pasta. Nothing wow about it. Considering the prices I thought my pasta would be delicious. So if you plan to go there order something else. The pasta is just average...not worth the price. Everything else was amazing, very clean and we enjoyed it a lot.

Great veggie options

By Shreyas P |

Their pastas are simple but very flavourful. So tasty ! Wine selection is good. Great ambience, great starters.

Get Together with Friends

By Mohamed C |

Never disappoints! New set of appetizers. The soft shell crab and Avocado were tops. Branzino was excellent as usual. Wine selection is very good and reasonably priced. To top it off, tiramisu was freshly made and deeply satisfying. Service is knowledgeable, friendly and unobtrusive. I highly recommend.

Sicily meets NYC

By TomZ05 |

I was recently introduced to Osteria57 and have had dinner there a couple of times. Both of which were a wonderful experience. From the crostini to the pasta and seafood to dessert, everything was delicious, and mind you there is a fantastic selection of wines as well. Owner Emanuele and his staff make you feel like you are dining in a Sicilian home. With that said, I recently organized with Emanuele, a 4-course wine paired dinner for 30 people and he and his staff were on point the entire evening with excellent service, timely food execution, and charm. It is not easy to serve 30 people at once and the staff was on it making it an amazing evening with friends and new friends. Grilled octopus, blackened arancini, homemade pasta, pistachio crusted salmon and homemade canoli were just some of the food that made this particular evening a success. Whether you are dining for two or 30 Osteria 57 is your place. Cheers!

Cozy and Delicious

By NYCSunshine42 |

I ate here on a recommendation of a coworker. It’s hard to pick a good Italian restaurant in a city filled with them. First, the restaurant is small but cozy. Our waiters were nice and knew the menu well. Their recommendations were great. There was 4 of us and we started with following apps: 1) 3 sample crostini-loved it; 2) fried artichokes-reluctant but the drizzle of cheese made it special; 3) grilled octopus was amazing. And then for the entrees. I had the special fish with caponata. Everyone else has pasta and they looked and tasted delicious. And the wine list was not huge but nice selection. We ordered the Chianti and that totally yummy. Overall a great meal. I would go back. And they gave us a free dessert; provably because we ordered we so much food and wine. Lol!! That was a nice tough.

Our first and last visit to Osteria57

By Chandolin |

We asked for a quiet table, both when we booked and when we arrived, and were seated in the back room, hot and noisy, next to five women who were laughing and shrieking. They had finished eating before we arrived and stayed until we had almost finished our entrees because the waiters had not produced the check and then didn’t finish the transaction. The loud music with a repetitive beat only encouraged everyone to yell louder. And the room was so dark that we had to use a flashlight to see the menu. The minute we finished our appetizers, one waiter took our plates and another immediately put our entrees on the table. We felt as though we were being rushed. When I reviewed the check, I thought the wine price was higher than I remembered, so asked to see the wine list. They had charged us $2 more than the listed price. When I pointed this out, they produced another check and said the computer had the wrong price. I suspect this was not an unusual situation, so beware! My rating is Poor instead of Terrible only because the food was good!

Lovely table in the back of restaurant

By Melissa J |

We enjoyed being in the back of the restaurant at a long table. The setting was almost private and more intimate. Our server was not that personable, although he was not unfriendly. Multiple orders arrived cold, which was disappointing. And there was one in our party who ordered a dish was brought something different with no explanation why.

Very cozy and excellent dishes

By IsaoTA |

The food is delicious, the staff is incredibly friendly and the atmosphere is elegant and cozy. What more could you ask? Please do yourself a favor and stop at Osteria for a heartwarming dinner.

Delicious Italian with Plant Based Options

By Le Flâneur Ni |

My partner and I were in search of a great meal before seeing a Broadway show. After a little searching for an authentic Italian restaurant that also offered plant based options, I landed on Osteria 57. The quaint West Village restaurant is small, but inviting and beautifully decorated. Staff were polite and service was prompt, but what makes this restaurant worth visiting is the FOOD. The wine I selected was not available, but the server recommended an excellent wine in its place. To start, we shared an heirloom tomato salad to share with the burrata cheese on the side for my partner. Every component was fresh and delicious. My entree was the Caci e Pepe with vegan cashew cheese. After a few bites, I’d honestly wondered if they’d mistakenly made it w actual cheese. (They hadn’t.) It was phenomenal. My partner ordered the lobster linguine special, and he was blown away. There are many things you just have to give up on having when you’re plant based, but I’m pleased to say that having delicious Italian food in NYC is not one of them. :) All around awesome dining experience. Hope to revisit Osteria 57 on our next visit to New York.

Huge disappointment

By Brummy40 |

Hugely disappointing. We used to love visiting the former restaurant when coming to New York, our last visit being in March this year. It had vaulted ceilings and a great atmosphere. Now in very large, new premises, it was loud and hardly ‘Italian’ in any respect. The food was very average (cauliflower starter tasted of nothing) and the list of pasta dishes was shockingly small and uninspiring. It felt like just another venue from a large chain. What a real shame - and finally, where have the lovely Italian staff gone?? We will not be returning.

Fantastic food find!

By Kim8125 |

This was an amazing restaurant find! Vegan, vegetarian and seafood galore. Also was able to accommodate substitutions for my gluten allergies without compromising on taste. Everything was delicious. Restaurant personnel very pleasant, attentive and every recommendation from food to wine was on point. Menu indicates vegan vs. vegetarian and footnotes for those with allergies. Some menu items ordered (apologies, missed taking pictures of all items as I was too busy eating). Salumeria di mare - we ordered one of each which included shark, octopus, seafood salami, Salmon Crudi - nicely chilled salmon with a perfect marinade, Fried rounds of zucchini (or squash) with some sort of cheese, Marinated Octopus in a (potato?) foam and tomatoes, Medley of Seafood (forgot what it was called), Scallopine di Monkfish in prosecco sauce and fresh black truffle, Gluten free pasta with chickpea, pumpkin, thyme and crispy salmon, Cubo di Salmone Selvatico - sesame & poppy seed crusted salmon on puréed rosemary chickpeas, and of course a couple of bottles of recommended red & white wine as well as prosecco. There’s two bars - one in the front room and one in the back room. Place is very romantic for couples. Make sure to call in advance to reserve if you have a large party. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Ottimo

Delicious food. Great service and intimate atmosphere.a bit on the expensive side, but worth it. Grazie Tommaso !

Exceptional

By Kyle L |

We ordered some light fare on a sweltering day—all three specialty roasts (ricotta, smoked salmon, and avocado)—along with the lemon pancakes, and fried calamari and zucchini. Everything was truly exceptional as was the air conditioned interior and friendly, prompt service. The Bloody Mary I ordered was the best I have ever had, and the mimosa and lemonade were also good. Highly recommended and a stand out part of our vacation for the entire family.

Disappointed

By S F |

Small portions , limited menu , fish was chewy , lack of friendly server, disappointed as it was recommended, Bureata was good

A New York must

Excellent food and great service, try the truffle ricotta toast. Great ambiance and private dining area outdoors. Gelato is delicious
