Great burger in a very noisy environment...

By J A T |

I have been going to PJ Clarke's since I can remember. The one on 3rd Avenue the original, So, when I took my daughter ti Radio City Music Hall for the Christmas show, I thought it was a good time to introduce her to this NYC landmark. She so enjoyed it, she wants to go back... who can blame her? The burgers and fries are great and despite the noise, it's a fun place. The service is always fast and attentive.

Casual Fare

By Daniel L |

Not good for quiet business dinner, but Great urban vibe, food and service was good. Reservations a must.

Mixed bag of food

By GlobalStu |

The host was super nice as was our server. The restaurant was buzzy and packed - it was our first night so felt very NY to us out of towners! Jumbo prawn cocktail was a joke. Prawns were nice but really cold and completely unseasoned and just came with the sauce and that was it. 24$ - are you kidding? My daughter’s zucchini chips were not nice as they’d cut the zucchini way too thin. The burger was excellent and they have a great range of beers. Shame about the starters. Probably wouldn’t recommend on balance.

Great Restaurant

By Charles D |

Visited on a Saturday night in November. There was a crowd, because the place is popular. We had a short (20 min) wait at the bar before we were seated. The staff are helpful and friendly. The menu is excellent. I had the chicken wings, which I recommend. The ambiance is excellent. This is a great place to visit.

Cadillac Burger with Avocado & Egg

By Stan Tecza |

Always wanted to come here and enjoy a drink proper. Might have been here when I was younger but don’t remember for certain. Regardless, wanted to go and do it proper before the coming fourth turning storm. Ate a Cadillac burger with avocado and egg which was delicious. Also enjoyed the Philly cheesesteak egg rolls. Only had 1 Manhattan which was perfectly done. Great vibe and amazing architecture. Next tome I want to look for the stuffed dog “skippy” which supposedly wandered into the place as a stray abs was adopted by the place. Definitely plan to go back.

Fun Spot in NYC!

Fun, high energy atmosphere; good food, friendly and attentive service, view of the water and outdoor seating. Mazin, the manager, made our night extra special! Highly recommend this establishment!

Disappointing Seafood Appetizer

By Bill B |

We dined at the P.J. Clarke's in lower Manhattan on the Hudson. We have been there twice before and the food was fine. However this time the seafood appetizer was disappointing. Very salty and heavy on the spice, we had to send it back and were not charged for it. Overall the total meal was very average. Drinks were over priced. May not go back again.

Oh Those Wings

By Kathy V |

My family hasn't stopped talking about the best wings ever! The rest of the food was great as well with the exception of the fish & chips. Fish tasted great but the batter was a bit soggy. The lobster roll and wagyu beef burger were unbelievable. Our waitress was really friendly and offered great suggestions. We'd definitely do this one again.

English Pub

By chris a |

This place had an English pub vibe. I thought it was expensive, but apparently it is average prices. The burger was pretty damn good tho.

Original Location Awesomeness

By justmarkf |

I have no idea how anyone can post anything but a 5-star review on this place. We had a FANTASTIC experience, and I doubt that future visits, if we lived there, would change. Drew was our bartender, and he combined personality, energy, and efficiency perfectly. Sometimes the staff sort of "makes" your experience, and he did exactly that. The place itself oozes with history and nostalgia. Yes, I even am posting a pic of the bathroom ceiling. Wife had a very well made French 75. I had the local IPA by Six Point. They have the old school jukebox and if Drew is working, play All Along The Watchtower for him. He will love you for it. Don't play Janis Joplin. The burger was solid, and that was a main reason we went there. It was well worth the $24. The oysters were also worth the 6 for $24. The chowder was also solid. Good mix of regulars, other service industry people, and sports fans during our visit. There are a lot of places in NYC obviously, but if nearby Midtown, you should definitely schedule an hour or two for here. Definitely recommend and see you there (the next time we are in NYC).

The legend lives… somewhat stinky, though…

By Oliver S |

I’ve written many times about this place, it’s just around the corner from me. I always loved it: the legends it knows, the stories it could tell if it could talk… It’s time to say goodbye now. I stopped for drinks with a friend in the early afternoon one day this week and it was crowded, as usual. But the drinks have diminished in size, while prices have augmented disproportionately. Then, suddenly, this overwhelming foul odor of bathroom overcame the place – women were not allowed in the famous restroom of P.J.Clark’s until the 60’s, but I don’t think it’s all their fault… Two shots of Scotch set us back $50 before tip… Maybe it’s time I looked for another legend…

The Manager made a wonderful experience an unforgettable memory

By Fra |

Starting from the very warm phone call that I made, because I had some problems while booking online, to the quality of the food ( crispy french fries, outstanding hamburger, very good beers, wonderful typical classical american atmosphere. But the thing that outperformed all this experience, was the welcoming hospitality of the General Manager, that made my kids even more happy and satisfied, in this Easter holiday. Thank you a lot Mazin, we will never forget you and we will definitely come back next time we are in NYC. Ciao

Always a fun spot to gather

By VMT |

Excellent burgers and fries. Also a nice shrimp/pasta dish. Drink service is always good too. Great vibrant atmosphere.

Great restaurant!!

By RodolpheD |

Great restaurant in a typical and original setting, very welcoming staff and great meal!! Top from start to finish!! I highly recommend it

Amazing burgers and drinks, charming spot

By mhershey |

We had a fantastic meal here-- amazing burgers and well-crafted drinks. We had to wait in the very crowded bar for our reservation, and the hostess was pretty unpleasant, but the meal was well worth it and the atmosphere was cozy and charming.

Great friendly place

By Tricia T |

This place was very busy and we had to wait about 15 minutes for a table- it was a nice atmosphere. You just feel at home here- kind of like Cheers! The waiter was very friendly and welcomed us to this place and made small talk with us about visiting NYC. Most of us ordered the chicken pot pie- was a perfect thing for a cold evening. It was very good! The desserts looked amazing and we wished we were not so full to enjoy them- we hoped to come back during our trip but time never worked out but hope to on our next trip,

A Classic NYC bar and restaurant

By lps1958 |

Soak up the atmosphere of a really popular NYC bar that's been open since the 1800's, and then enjoy a great hamburger in the restaurant, which offers a complete menu.

Great Food, great atmosphere

By smasher09 |

Superb Burgers, great cocktails with a very efficient service. The building is really nice and the atmosphere was lovely. We would return for sure.

One of the Best 5 Burgers in NYC

By BobHandTV |

One of the best 5 Burgers in NYC. I do think it is a little bit too pricey but you can't go wrong with the Cadillac Burgers. Fries are good but JG Melon has better fries (but PJ Clarke's has the better burger)

Awesome service, great burgers

By Meg M |

We were traveling and stopped here for dinner as the burgers had come recommended. This place gives off a casual family-friendly and approachable vibe but it comes with 5 star service. We were very impressed with all the staff. They are top notch, as were the burgers. The fries were only Ok but everything else made up for it.

Great spot for after work drinks and dinner

By OliwaVasicek |

Can’t complain - loud, always packed, huge drinks and food variety, exactly the kind of place you’d like to be a regular at after work!

Sadly not the best burger in NYC

By David R |

I was quite disappointed with PJ Clarkes. My wife had told me that it was the best burger in NYC and given that i was only allowing myself one burger on a weeks stay in NYC i had high hopes. Sadly, it was a bit of a let down and like one reviewer mentions pretty expensive. (Dinner for 2 with wine $140). The place itself is a bit like an irish pub so nothing really to write home about there. Personally, i would look elsewhere for a great burger. Service very attentive though.

Returning for the cheesecake!

By joanna l |

What a great little find! Relaxed vibe with plenty of atmosphere, we visited twice during our recent stay. Great burgers and fries, Mac n cheese and cheesecake - we had to try all the NYC staples! Great service, prompt, attentive and friendly. General Manager Mazin is a credit to the role and the company having the time to chat to customers while still ensuring the team is running things smoothly. Thanks for a memorable evening in NYC

Great place to eat

By Kenneth P |

Great American fare restaurant, food is fresh and very good, burgers are excellent. Nice pub atmosphere definitely would come again

Wonderful Service

By phoebe l |

Good good. Excellent service. Mazin went above and beyond to make us very satisfied customers. Great venue by Hudson! Highly recommend.

precious NYC time capsule

By dropmealine |

This historic pub/restaurant has been a New York institution for ever, without being at all stale. Just walking in is a like a step back in time to an era when men drank scotch and ate burgers in dark wood-lined barrooms. That's just the atmosphere. The menu has changed a bit in the past century with straight-forward well prepared pub/bistro dishes, and the service is as friendly as can be.

Rude waiters.

By Cristobal S |

Rude waiter. Pushes me while I was talking to the receptionist. Does not apologize, and he even gets more aggressive when told.

Gracious Hospitality

By Savitri |

Well this restaurant has a long history, but has modern reputation for great burgers… So when in Rome😄 This is a busy and happening place but they fit us in… This was the first good sign.😎 My guy is gluten intolerant, but he suffered no ill effects from the delicious Cadillac Burger, and I happily devoured the Au Poivre Burger. The beef was succulent and perfectly prepared as requested. The French fries were good. Our appreciation did not go unnoticed by the highly engaged manager, Mazin, who in turn asked if we had heard about NY cheesecake. As if he knew our aversion to pre-prepared desserts, he went on to describe an in-house delight. You really should try this version because it is not the dense, thud slices that are so common… It is light, dare I say fluffy, from the ricotta, and the fruit topping adds sweetness as a crowning touch. Again we were so enthusiastic that we were then presented two glasses of Prosecco. Now, we can’t promise that everyone who visits will experience what we did, but the EQ and thoughtfulness of the manager, and the superb food deserve special mention. Thank you to Mazin for being so superb. Special attention to us, while fully managing a bustling restaurant. Top shelf!!!

Great burger!

By kristinn871 |

We had a great time at P.J. Clark’s. The history was fun and the burger was awesome! Our server did a good job. It was a solid option for lunch.

Great restaurant in NY

By ripag1 |

Perfect place for casual dinner in a typically New York setting with excellent quality food and beers, very good value for money. Quick and attentive service, very courteous staff. It's worth booking.

Great NYC culinary experience!

By lambpost |

Great menu, great service and wonderful location for people watching! Casual, inviting atmosphere will bring us back many times.

Just average

By Hara T |

was waiting to get into my hotel, so I stopped in to have lunch Had a very overpriced hamburger that was nothing special With all the restaurants in New York City, this one falls somewhere around a 5-6 in my opinion

Delicious burgers!

By Bobbie W |

Not a fancy restaurant, but a welcoming feeling. The bar looks like a great place to hang after work. Both bar and restaurant are pricey. Most beets are between $8-$10 per bottle/glass. I can only vouch for the burger with melted Gruyère cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and onion ($23). It was made perfectly (medium rare). The classic burger with lettuce, tomato and onion ($21), was yummy, too. They come with pickles and yummy French fries. The burger looked about 8 oz portion.

Unfortunate.

By J L |

This is what it is like when the restaurant gives up. Worst meal I have had this year - mostly because of the staff. 1. No lighting near our table, and had to ask three times, including the visibly checked-out manager who gave us candles. 2. One mixed drink had to be sent back 3 times and then cancelled. This led to a conference by the bar tenders, waitstaff, and manager, all 10 feet away from our table. 3. Our server was clueless about menu, and any question resulted in waiting while he made a trip to the kitchen 4. They were out of Bud Light, but the waiter said they had many other light beers, thinking that lagers and wheat beers were the same. Good grief. Normally I would toss a joke or two into the review, but this is more like a eulogy. An unfortunate dinner at a tavern that has lost its way.

Charming place.

By Toni P |

A typical American restaurant, with basically native clientele with the bar full of New Yorkers drinking beer, the prices are popular, the service attentive and very fast. The burgers are correct although the menu is much more complete in terms of food, beer and wine, they even have Catalan cava!! But the place is worth it, since it is full of history since it has existed since 1869.

Lunch near Central Park

By NicholU |

This was an unexpected stop as we were looking for lunch but loved the place as soon as we stepped inside. Full of nostalgia and feeling like you'd stepped back 100 years in looks but fortunately not in any other way. The menu was very meat based which was the only downside as there were no mains that my daughter could eat without adaptation. This is the only reason for losing a mark. Our sandwiches and burgers were all delicious and there were many more items I'd have liked to explore including the seafood. We would have probably come back again for dinner if there had been a little more vegetarian choice. That said it isn't going for the veggie market and does what it does really well.

An Historic local Establishment that will quench your thirst and hunger!!

By TVL4Ever3 |

Wanted to find a nice bar to quench our thirst from our long walk from the Met. Had a lovely bar tender from Suriname who's name I've sadly forgotten. She even let me charge my phone. Was excited to see they had Aperol so enjoyed two Spritz. My husband had two draft Stella Artois. We were not hungry but the menu looks delightful. This establishment has been in existence since 1884. Met the manager who was very friendly. We talked about them surviving the pandemic. Will definitely go back when in this area. CHECK IT OUT!

Super food in classic NYC setting!

By Lordleviathon |

Great Appetisers to share and fabulous burgers! Lots of choice is burgers not your thing. Lots of hustle and bustle and brilliant atmosphere! Give it a go!

Hits the spot!

By dewmaw |

We wanted an authentic NYC burger after a transatlantic flight, and this hit the spot! Brooklyn Lager on tap. Good service. Good burgers. (And yes, other food is available!).

YOU CAN EAT A LOW SALT DIET HERE............AND THEY ARE HONEST ABOUT IT

By doug100worth |

Having recently had OPEN HEART SURGERY, my doctor wants me on a LOW SALT DIET and suggested that I speak with the manager of each restaurant we go to and talk about that. Yesterday I had lunch at PJ CLARKE'S on Third Avenue and spoke with Carol. She said "yes, the kitchen adds salt to the top of their hamburgers but that she can stop that for mine. And surprise, D. Anderson Chili is back on the menu..........thanks Phil. As I can't eat chili anymore I ordered 2 to go for Dale and brought them home. That's why I've been eating at PJ's for 63 year

Batting Well Below Average on This Visit…

By Doctor-and-Lawyer |

Tuna tartare was far more mango than tuna. Onion straws far more bread than onion. Measly wilted lettuce and tomato on the burger, and poor service all made for a disappointing (repeat) experience from a midtown standard otherwise deserving of its reputation.

Nice bar, it's a classic.

By Jesus M C G |

Whether you stop for a drink or dinner, this is always a good place to be. Martinis are good... burgers are special, this a cozy spot near UN.

Authentic cuisine in a lively environment

By CJE55 |

Our last night on a week’s trip to NY. Supper was to be something authentically American or something expensive. The former won out and P J Clarke’s did not disappoint. The building is old and, like some pubs in the UK, seems to have withstood wholesale local redevelopment. There is certainly nothing like it nearby. The dining room is to the rear of the lively bar where they serve classic food. Red and white checked tablecloths, cosy without the tables being too close together. I had oysters then steak and fries and my wife had vegetable chips then cioppino, a kind of fish stew. Everything was first rate as were the Guinness that I drank with my oysters and the glasses of wine – wine by the glass is useful when it’s as expensive as it is in NY – that we had with our mains. The service was friendly and unobtrusive and my decision to chance a Brownie Sundae for dessert was one of the better ones I have made recently. As we walked through the bar to leave, the jukebox was belting out some Motown from the ‘70s. I expect we could have had an enjoyable evening in there, too…

Nice place, good burger, great service

By Londontripadviser |

This restaurant is steeped in history - from Nat King Cole, to Buddy Holly and 'Ol Blue Eyes' - all of them came here to eat great burgers, for which the restaurant is still mainly known. The restaurant was almost full of people dining out after work, often in groups. It made for a buzzy atmosphere coupled with traditional decor. I had the Cadillac burger (bacon and cheese) and really enjoyed it. The fries were also very nice. The cheesecake was a little bit sickly and I didn’t finish it. The waitress was very friendly. Very close to 5 stars.

Great spot!

By WeBvacations |

Had dinner here with hubby in the sidecar and it was awesome. An oasis from the noise and hubbub of the city. Loved the history, charm, service and of course the food. Our first time and will definitely come back.

Not Worth the Expense and Convenience

By Manhattan T |

This is for the P.J. Clarke's at Lincoln Square. I've been several times because it's convenient for concerts, but lately it's a thumbs down. The brunch food was just not good, egg scramble dry and oversalted, potatoes greasy, and there's no espresso machine so plain coffee is the only option. It gets a big pre-concert crowd, but there are several places near Lincoln Ctr that are better value. The service is ok, but they need to up their game in the food department.

Underwhelmed

By adayal |

Was really surprised at how average the experience was. The ribs were smothered in an overly sweet BBQ sauce, the flagship wagyu burger was poorly seasoned and the rest of the order was equally disappointing. We were 6 people and everyone was disappointed. On top of that we had a waiter who seemed keen to end his shift (we had a relatively late reservation). He offered minimal information and brought us the cheque right after we’d finished our mains - neither did we ask for it, not did he ask if we wanted anything else. Pretty shabby. I had really hoped to be wowed because I live just 2 blocks away, but will not go again. Clearly they are riding on their reputation, which at this rate will not last much longer.

Great food and service

By wjbstl1976 |

The original burger was great. I ate at the bar both times I was there and the bartenders were great.

Great food and great service! Wonderful atmosphere!

By SGS1260 |

An historic atmosphere with a friendly twist! The front half is more "bar" like while the back has more tables and seating for "restaurant" style. We ordered the wings as an appetizer which were very tasty. For entrees, none of us ordered the burgers for which they are known, but our meals were tremendous. We had the lobster roll, chicken sandwich, and a chicken pot pie. All were delicious! Each sandwich came with a huge helping of skinny fries which were also good. I had a bloody mary and thought is was very tasty. The desserts looked absolutely to die for, but we couldn't manage another bite! Service was excellent! A great time!

Fantastic food, fantastic service

By Chef James R |

First, the negatives, it'll be quick. It's loud in there. Like really loud, like Metallica at a Slayer concert loud. Now the positives. The food is frigging phenomenal. Every bite, every dish, fantastic. It is rare to find a tomato soup with flavors evocative of fresh tomatoes, usually you get tomato flavored cream. This creamy tomato soup was like biting into a fresh tomato while enjoying a cream soup. Then, the Philly Cheesesteak Eggroll, really a spring roll but, hey, it's not Chinatown. This was bursting with flavor, the only thing missing was the whip. There was a fish n chips at our table, perfectly cooked with a nicely seasoned batter, enough to share. High marks for a thick, juicy burger on a buttery, bakery bun, great with a Brooklyn Lager. The fries were good but DO NOT MISS the Roasted Chili Lime Corn; really, I'm not making this up, stop what you're doing and go get this corn. And, while we're on the subject of 'do not miss', Do Not Miss PJ Clarke's cheese cake and key lime pie. They are worthy of the dessert Hall of Fame. Other than food, the location is reminiscent of NYC of the past, from what adorns the exposed brick walls to the fixtures in the restrooms. The staff was efficient, friendly and genuinely invested in our experience. This is the kind of place that has long-time regulars for a very good reason. PJC NYC for solo, for friends, for business, or for family, FIVE STARS

Great Restaurant

By C3650SCjimd |

Went here with a colleague. Best buffalo wings ever. The grilled chicken paillard was excellent. Just like a chicken Milanese except with grilled chicken. The scallops ceviche was excellent as well as the Cesar salad. The service was good. The restaurant is a cramped old school Ny restaurant, but great. I will be back.

Excellent!

By CCofColorado |

Excellent food, service and ambiance! The blueberry apple crisp was perfect! If in NYC again, we will definitely return to this PJ Clarke’s

Great food and atmosphere!

By Where2next629 |

Accommodated two of us for dinner without reservations very graciously on a Friday night when they were busy. First time here. Loved everything about it! Great bar scene up front; restaurant and raw bar in the back. Terrific menu. Something for everyone. Drink menu also fabulous. Shared: Gulf shrimp cocktail, zucchini and eggplant chips and baby arugula pear salad. Shared the Key lime pie special for dessert. Everything was fabulous. Cocktails were delish. Service was so friendly and prompt. Great atmosphere here, well worth the visit. Will be back!

Wonderful NYC Experience

By Ros1943 |

Dropped in for lunch during our visit to NYC. Fantastic staff and service with a real NYC atmosphere. We had the steak frites and classic cheese burger washed down by a few Boston Largers. Service was excellent and our waitress was on work experience from Ireland so nice to chat to some people from home. Would highly recommend for the atmosphere, service and excellent menu. Will definitely be back.

Delicious cheesecake, amazing cocktails!

By bronzejoana |

I was a really fan from Brazilian PJ restaurants. So, when I went to NY I really was excited about visit this unit! Perfect classic cocktails, amazing service and one of the best hambúrguer (classic Cadillac) and a delicious cheesecake. Love it!

Wide Variety of Foods, No Kids Menu

By endhome |

This restaurant offers a wide variety of food, from bar food to more elegant dishes. All of our meals were extremely tasty. The atmosphere is awesome and reminds me of a neighborhood tavern of yesteryear. Though they don’t have a dedicated kids menu, they had some suggestions on the menu for the kids, which worked out well.

P.J. Clarke’s isn’t just a restaurant, it’s a piece of New York

By AntonioFundaro |

P.J. Clarke’s isn’t just a restaurant, it’s a piece of New York that has endured since 1884, at the corner of Third Avenue and 55th. Wood, history, soft lighting: the atmosphere is that of American taverns that do not need to explain. The evening had some imperfections in the service, with longer waits than expected despite the room not being full, but then the meat arrived. Extraordinary: if juicy, tasty, cooked to perfection. Frites, golden and crisp, completed a dish that alone is worth the visit. Rich menu, identity, without forcing fashion. A place to return to, because it still tells an authentic New York.

Great Pub Food

By Caroline B |

Jerry the bartender is a great host and was very personable! He helped make the time more enjoyable. We had the lobster roll & fish and chips and both were delicious. Will have to stop by again the next time we are in the city.

Management did not keep the word given after an accident

By Rino H |

I had the opportunity to dine at Sidecar in New York City (915 3rd Avenue) on December 3, 2024, during a business trip with colleagues. While the ambiance and overall dining experience were quite pleasant, I faced an unfortunate incident that marred an otherwise enjoyable evening. As I was enjoying my meal, a server accidentally stumbled behind my seat, causing a cup of mayonnaise to spill onto my suit jacket and shirt. I must commend the restaurant’s team for their prompt response; both the server and the manager immediately approached to apologize for the mishap. The manager kindly provided her business card, suggesting that I send her the cleaning bill for my clothes. After returning to my home in Montreal, Canada, on December 6, I proceeded to have my suit jacket and shirt cleaned, incurring an expense of 14 CAD. I sent an email to the address provided by the manager on December 18, 2024, attaching a copy of the invoice and requesting a refund. Unfortunately, I did not receive any response. On January 8, I decided to follow up with another email to inquire if my initial message had been received and to kindly ask if there was a way for them to process my refund. Regrettably, I found myself once again without a response. I took the time to verify the email address, and everything appeared correct, with no errors indicating the message was undeliverable. Despite my efforts, no one from the restaurant has responded to my inquiries. While the amount in question is quite modest, it remains discourteous for the restaurant's management to neglect communication with a customer following an incident caused, albeit unintentionally, by a member of their crew. I had hoped for a more proactive approach in handling the situation. Therefore, I cannot wholeheartedly recommend Sidecar. I believe that excellent service extends beyond the dining experience and includes how unforeseen situations are managed afterward. I hope that the restaurant can improve communication with diners in the future.

Perfection in NYC

By Summerlover00 |

This place has it all! Atmosphere, superb service, great cocktails, and amazing food. We ended our family NYC trip with this restaurant and it could not have been a better choice. My daughter and I loved the salmon so much that we wanted to lick our plates! Oh, and remember to try the cheesecake and key lime pie, they’re the best I’ve ever had!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

An essential part of New York City

By Ken D |

I’ve been here four or five times now, it’s become an essential part of my visits to NYC. Great food and the service has always been good too, great soak up the history of the place and kick back and have some great food and drinks.

Excellent

By charleyboy1955 |

The restaurant was very busy so pleased we booked the day before. A proper 'old school' restaurant which was delightful to dine in. The food was excellent, I can thoroughly recommend the BBQ Blue burger. Despite the busy restaurant the service was excellent, friendly and engaging so thank you Sarah. If we go back to NYC we will certainly visit again.

An Average Steak Experience

By PaulG54 |

We dined at the 3rd Avenue Restaurant in August and concluded that the overall experience was average. I ordered a Boneless Rib eye at $45.00 conclusion, average. The steak was advertised with a choice of 3 different butters, I chose Blue Butter, but was told that that was not available. A top restaurant that runs out of Blue Butter! The steak came with fries and a small side carton of ketchup, Ketchup with a top steak! Is that the best that can be offered? My wife ordered a lobster claw and tail salad which was fine, nothing too interesting. The overall experience was poor and we would not return. On visiting the men’s washroom, I discovered there was no paper towels for hand drying. I reported this to a member of staff, who preceded to hand me 2 small bar napkins from behind the bar and laughed. Not very professional.

Great food & service. Men’s restroom needs cleaning

By Eire_always |

The burgers, the mac & cheese,, the french fries and the drinks were fine. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. We were seated in the back, near the rear door, which was kept open to allow servers to go in and out. There are several outdoor tables. Alas, we got chilly inside. Our server and the manager later moved our table farther way from the rear door. Much better. I can’t give this restaurant the highest rating for one reason: the men’s restroom. Maybe this building is landmarked. Nevertheless, the bathroom sink is atrocious. It looks like it hasn’t been thoroughly cleaned in a long while. The stains are permanently ingrained. In my opinion, there’s no excuse for not having a clean restroom, regardless of any landmark status. My wife says the ladies restroom was fine.

Awesome taste of 19th century New York with great food!

By German B |

This 1884 standby on Third Avenue has stood the test of time. It's like taking a step back in time from the moment you walk into the bar area, and head back towards the large dining rooms. The drinks were well made, the Cadillac burger and country chicken pot pie were both outrageously good, and the strawberry shortcake (not always available) was authentic and a dream come true! We've always loved PJ's but had not ever been to this original location. It is worth the trip!

Don’t bother - too many good places in the area

By AML222 |

I wandered in as I passed because of the happy hour sign. Bartender was so busy talking to the guy next to me that I almost walked out. He finally acknowledged me and said “oh, that’s an old sign.” I stupidly stayed and had a beer. It was slightly flat, so I got the bill and left. Clearly a place living on a long ignored reputation. Menu was exceptionally overpriced.

Good Atmosphere

By ZelPin |

My daughter and I came to PJ Clarke’s for dinner after a day of moving her into the college dorm. It was relaxing and had a good atmosphere. It was a bit cluttered and you sit really close to others but overall it was good. The lighting was a bit low and had to hold the menu up to the window light to see. I ordered the grilled fish tacos and they were delicious. Would return to this restaurant/pub.

Amazing Restaurant and food - such history

By Malcolm A |

Our friends took us here for a Saturday morning early lunch. The back room was wonderful and the food was amazing. The Chicken Pot Pie was to die for, my Wife's Salmon Salad was also superb.

Good spot in Manhattan

By Vincenzo M |

This place was highly recommended by some friends and it was a good surprise. It is a quite spot in Manhattan with good selection of traditional American food.

Amazing

By luca b |

As an Italian it's the second time I enter this place Historically iconic Amazing Lobster Spectacular sweets One of the best pubs in New York

PJ Clark’s is a wonderful throwback to NY’s past.

By briansD2478WS |

We went to PJ Clark’s for my moms 80th Birthday and had the honor of sitting at Frank Sinatra’s table! Classic pub food that was absolutely delicious, especially the burgers. Had the pleasure to meet Mazin, the manager, and he filled us in on all the famous celebs that have past through, as well as being a great host! Thanks for the book Mazin! We’ll worth a trip to if your in the city and want to get a taste of old New York.

The best burgers anywhere on the planet

By deanwebb2016 |

We walked from The Empire State W 34 St to PJ Clarkes on 3rd Ave, and it was well worth it. The best burger I’ve ever had. I ordered the Clarke burger, cooked MR, with sautéed onions and fried egg. Absolutely amazing, and a great old pub, that serves Guinness. Best meal I’ve had in the USofA since our arrival a week ago.

Average food, slightly overrated

By Abhishek |

Were out here with friends and colleagues, during visit to NY, as this is one of most popular and old place to have burgers. Given this is one of the most popular, so may be the expectations were very high, which is why I found it overrated. Burgers were average, but staff was great and very prompt and courteous to serve us and take care of us.

Dropped in for Friday Fish

By Deano |

What a place. First, the food was excellent. Maine Lobster tails and Atlantic Salmon as main courses and the best cheesecake we have ever eaten as dessert (so big we had to share). The on tap beer was excellent after a long day pounding the sidewalk and museums. The service was attentive but not overpowering; just right. The dining room has a legacy feel to it. It is astonishing to think that Frank Sinatra had his own table, Nat King Cole coined named his favourite burger the 'Cadillac' and Buddy holly proposed to Maria Elena in the same room - the atmosphere rubs off. It might only be relatively young history - but it's well worth a visit to experience its tradition.

Fascinating pub atmosphere

By DieBubis |

After a long sightseeing trip across NYC, we happened to pass by PJs in the late afternoon, which is located in a small brick building on a corner in the middle of all the skyscrapers. After just a few minutes of sitting at the bar, we were impressed by the atmosphere and the way the guests were treated, as the bartender Jerry seemed to know every guest personally. As is typical for after-work, it got quite crowded at times, but the bartenders managed this without any problems.

Yummy

A yummy place to grab a bite !!!!!! If you ever get the chance , Go don’t walk run!!!!. You’ll thank me

CHILI IS BACK

By doug100worth |

CHILI IS BACK............now I can have my cheeseburger with an order of chili once again. GREAT. I have no idea why they take it off the menu but I am delighted that they put it back. It's listed as an entree and a few of us share with burgers which I have always believed were the best in New York City

Best Burgers in town

By RichardRayC81 |

Arrived last week and had a table near the kitchen. Great feel and hustle and bustle of the joint. A UK man who was blown away by the real American burgers. Will come again

Staff that treat their customers like an owner should!!

By Travel19170850472 |

Discovered it on our last night in new York unfortunately... Everybody has to call here when in New York.Mazin greeted us, I actually thought he owned the place the way he greeted us like only an owner can, Drew and Gabby pulling the pints and having the Craic with customers, locals and newbies like us. A fantastic evening, in a fantastic pub, with fantastic staff. Not alot more to say other than keep doing what you're doing guys.

Wouldn't go again

By Ray Donovan |

Nice setting but the food was average. All four of my party agreed. Not sure where the great reviews come from, I've seen it called the best burger in NYC. Mine was bland and dry. I'd give it a 6 out of 10. My least favourite burger on my recent trip. Maybe I was just unlucky

A return visit

By annef918 |

On my first ever trip to N.Y. 30 years ago my New Yorker cousin brought us here. As it was a place Jackie Kennedy visited & it was lovely to be there. So on my visit this time decided to go back again for lunch. What a buzz - and I did not feel odd eating alone. My server Renee was excellent - not being a beer drinker recommended one which was lovely. I had the Caddilac Burger which was cooked to perfection. I have to say I was just delighted to eat hear & lovely they have kept it's character. Cannot recommend highly enough. The highlight of my dining in N.Y.

Good Clam Chowder

By True W |

Great place for a drop in lunch or snack. We did not have a booking but they were happy to take us. The Clam Chowder was delicious. I didn’t like having to sit in broken class that no one had clean off the floor but other than that good ambience, very busy and good food.

A classic resting on its laurels

By IvyDad |

Visited when they had reopened somewhat during the pandemic, then closed again, and not recently reopened. We always enjoy and want to support the classic joints that have been around forever. You step back in time on entering here. The food and grumpy service are not calling us for a return visit if the restaurant reopens.

P. J. Clarke's is a Must!

By queenbee2sagalo |

P. J. Clarke's is a saloon, established 1884 in Manhattan. Wonderful service with fabulous food!! You can request a table or sit at the bar. A wide variety of dishes are available.

PJ’s still has it

By Peter H |

Best burgers in the city. Fresh chop meat grilled to perfection. Solid fries. Love this environment

Great Burger Joint!! Fun Place!!

By Shaked007 |

This was our farewell NYC dinner....Ending a great NYC holiday. We decided to go for something typical....A NYC landmark. P.J. Clarke's definitely answers the above prerequisites!! The place is noisy, but in a good way...Alive and happy. The service was fast and friendly. We started with a creative cocktail for the lady (she asked the barman to be creative and he did a good job!!) and a divine Bloody Mary for me. I took a delicious Clam Chowder. We then took a Clarke's Burger & Cheddar (the lady) and a Wagyu Burger & Cheddar (yours truly). Both were mouthwateringly good!! We shared a Smores Sundae for dessert, which was excellent!! Great Place!! Great Food!!

Good Cheeseburger

By 189roya |

Went for lunch. We had the Cadillac Burger which was cooked to perfection and good quality. The fries were good as well. I would not say it is the best burger I have ever had but it was definitely good. We started with the jumbo shrimp cocktail which was excellent. The service was friendly and efficient. Would definitely go back.

Wow A Must Visit Excellent

By Candy80206 |

Had the dinner Fish bass special last night was excellent also great ceasar side salad highly recommend

Not kid friendly, actually

By srspivak |

Not kid friendly, actually not “friendly” at all. Hostess with attitude and zero warmth. Not even a smile. Why is this restaurant listed as good for families with Children if they have no high chairs or boosters?

Not the greatest fries and burgers in the world.

By Let's make Astoria's restaurants better! |

They do not have the greatest fries and burgers in the world. We ordered a variety of cheeseburgers, sliders, and fries. Table service was a little slow though we were given a nice space to sit at. Would we be back? Maybe that is up in the air?

Best burger!

By Kleb122 |

Great little spot for a burger and fries. The service is quick and the food delicious. A must to try.

What a view!

By Helen M |

Fabulous food, and the best view in NYC, looking at Lady Liberty. John looked after us so well! the blue cheese burger was delicious and came fully loaded. Nice menu, not over priced, well worth a visit, Thx John, see you next time.

Excellent.

By Dermot |

I visited recently on a family holiday from Ireland. If you're looking for an authentic New York bar / restaurant this is the place. The food was great and the manager, Mazin, and his staff really looked after us. They even gave my daughter a gift when leaving. It was her first visit to New York and it really made her day. I would highly recommend a visit.

Very Cool

By Jay L |

This place was packed with so much history and great atmosphere. The burger was really good! But the surroundings made the meal. Very cool to see where Sinatra and the Kennedys used to frequent.

Great burger

By vacances |

Hands down one of the best burgers in the city. The frozen fries are terrible, but the burger makes up for it. The other food and service are good too.

Recommendable.

By Ana G |

Very good burgers. Macaroni and cheese Very delicious. Very nice staff. Totally recommended. Lots of people from NY.

Sweetest waitress.

By Yasmine |

Had a classic Clarkes burger with tater tot things and a delicious pie with cream for desert. Food and service was amazing but I found the restaurant quite dark.

Excellent

By Felipe S |

Excellent value for money, quantity and price. The trajectory in the quality and size of the portions is rating. Perfect Mood and Service.

Friendly Atmosphere!

By Franster48 |

Good food, great location to Lincoln Center and Juilliard! Lovely waitstaff! Reasonable New York prices. They didn’t rush us as we chatted for a bit.

Great Pub Food

By Beth I |

Holiday season would not be complete without a trip to P.J.'s bar for a juicy cheeseburger! Perfectly cooked and delicious whether eating at the bar or table in the back. Love the hip but classic atmosphere. There's a reason this bar has been around for decades! Great service and food!

Excellent night out

By International Traveller |

Excellent location close to St Patrick's Hotel on Lexington. Service was excellent, food was very good, and great value for money. There was a fantastic atmosphere in the bar and restaurant.

An absolute gem of a restaurant, couldn’t fault it

By Jim Pickard |

I visited PJ Clarke’s this evening with my wife and two daughters and had a wonderful time. Mazin, the manager, utterly spoiled us all and I can’t thank him enough for making our night so special. The place has a great ambience and dates back 150 years, you can see the table which Frank Sinatra used to always sit at. As for the food: delicious burgers (reasonably priced) and the biggest hunk of cheesecake I’ve ever seen. Honestly I couldn’t fault the atmosphere, food, drink and service 10/10 Jim Pickard

Charming, fun and delicious

By Elizabeth S |

Classic american menu served with attentive unpretentious energy, the burgers and fries served with flare, the ouster’s delicious.

Great Burger!

By J_C |

Amazing burger and fries. Good service and an excellent ambience in this place. I recommend it for having a nice lunch while in NYC

$10 for a glass of Beer!!!

By William R |

The title says it all! I nearly had a Thrombosis when the lady told me the price for a Beer. Also, being from UK I had to ask myself if I was following the correct local procedures and customs by just sitting at the bar and waiting to be served. Two bar maids were chatting away in front of me and ignoring me whilst I was sat waiting to be served. Shortly after I asked a colleague “Do I order from here or should I not be sat here?” He said ‘No. someone will be with you shortly”. At this point the 2 ladies decided to stop chatting and serve me. Service not good. Price for a beer not good.

Overrated and disappointing

By Tristao A |

We had dinner at P. J. Clarke's after a jazz show in a near club. The house is very famous, so our expectations were high. But reality was much less. The place was crowded and noisy. The burgers were tasteless and the fries oily. Well, in short, I would never give it a second chance.

Amazing food and service

By DMYLiverpool |

I had a reservation for 9pm and thanks to some Uber issues , we were a little late . Staff could not have been more welcoming and accommodating and the gentleman who sat us fundamentally understood hospitality! The lady who looked after us during dinner was super helpful and professional and the food was outstanding. We only had one night in New York and I’m delighted we opted to dine here . Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend

Outstanding place

By Cora C |

Best bar, best place, best service, best ambiance, best food, best music, they have a jewel box, like old times, it’s a townhouse, more that 100 hundred years in service, has a beautiful bar, great cocktails and wines, good selection of whiskey, best burgers in town. It’s keep some of the old things they have at the beginning. Go to men’s restroom, it’s the same as old.inside has a restaurant and a row bar, with excellent selection of oysters and clams. We love this place. Absolutely fantastic.

Good Food In Historic Setting

By ChanceMan00 |

The restaurant itself is a conversation piece. It's a two story hold out next to a skyscraper. It looks every bit as old as it must be and that is part of the charm. We arrived in the city early on a Saturday morning and walked 11 blocks from our hotel to eat here. We actually beat the 10am opening, but the bartender who saw us outside felt sorry for us an let us in. Our server was a kind young lady who was sweet to the kids and genuinely seemed to like her job. My wife had a brunch salmon benedict that she loved. My youngest daughter had the $17 pancakes that she said was the best meal of the entire trip. They were covered with blackberries, blueberries and whipped cream. My oldest daughter and I had the hamburger and we both enjoyed it. The prices are steep as others have said, but that goes for almost all of NYC. It's like the entire city has to take the Starbucks business model in order to make the rent. We spent less money at a few others places but we didn't enjoy any of them as much as PJ Clarke's.

Hit and Miss

By avidtraveller04 |

Hit and Miss. Service was good. Drinks strong. Rib stew was excellent. The chicken pot pie was more like soup and nearly the entire entree was left uneaten. The server didn’t bother to ask why.

Fantastic Dinner

By Jodi B |

This was our second time visiting PJ Clarke's during a trip to New York City. Our server Pat was amazing - accommodating my husband's dairy allergy and making sure that our cousin had sufficient pillows because of his recent back surgery. The food continues to be very good - especially the chicken pot pie and French fries. We topped off the meal with NY Cheesecake which was fantastic. The atmosphere is very nice in the back and the bar area is always packed. We will definitely visit again on our next trip.

Very good burger

By ObserverGuy |

Yes a very good burger, but not the best you ever had. Ample portion of nice crispy fries. Good large shareable desserts. Nice atmosphere and decor. Pretty dark in my area, had to use my phones flashlight

NY classic!

By Sílvia B |

Even though we don't like seafood, the restaurant is known for its fresh oysters. We ordered a delicious burger that comes with a generous portion of deliciously dry fries.

Long wait for average food

By Joe B |

We were in the neighborhood looking for a lunch spot relatively late (1:30pm), came across P.J. Clarke's. Judging from the crowd inside, it was a popular place, so we decided to give it a try. Our family group of 6 was shown to a table after about a half hour wait. The offerings were of standard bar fare, and our party agreed that the meals were ok, but nothing "to write home about".

Nice atmosphere for a classic NYC bar with good food

By Rocco M |

We had a very good Wagyu Burger and fish taco's. Good service, good beer as well. The restaurant offers also Oyster bar with the guy opening the Oysters in front of you.

Excellent cheeseburger in NYC!!

By Mel |

Best cheeseburgers and fries in NYC!! Bartender and hostess were fabulous! So glad we stopped at this NYC staple!! Will definitely visit again next trip! 🍔

Rudely being asked to vacate our table after 1h 15 mins.

By Ny Cede |

I met two friends at 5:30pm, we had a reservation. I believe we sat down at 6pm and ordered drinks and meals. At about 7:15pm, the manager came to our table and asked us “gentlemen may I ask you to finish your conversation as I need to sit down people”. The whole party agreed it was inappropriate. Wrote TWO emails to the management, NEVER received a reply...

Great lunch

By Betty L |

The tasty food is still excellent, I was impressed by the prawns since it was very hot and they were delicious, the portions were huge, the service was super good and the prices were reasonable

This restaurant is a New York Gem! Fantastic food and service! Known for their burgers and the burger was outstanding!

By Maria Holaday |

I had the lobster roll Connecticut style and it was served on thick toast with butter and was the best lobster I have had here! This restaurant has been around since the 1800’s and now I know why! Thank you PJ Clarke’s for a wonderful experience!!

Classic pub food

By Mary J |

We met family here visiting from the midwest. The menu offered classic choices, a variety of burgers, pot pie, roasted veggies and sea bass along with other fish entrees. Children and adults were all able to find satisfactory choices. Staff was pleasant and not overbearing.

After 185 this is an institution

By Ronnie Dissentshik |

My recent visit to PJ on third Ave. marked 50 years since I have first eaten there. But of course compared to 185 years of existance it is not much. It is obvious than when I visit nyc again I will not miss the hamburger (the fries should be fried a little more), the beer, but mostly the dekor, the ambiance, the smiling people at the bar and happy gusets at the sitting area. The place has the special aura that no chef can reproduce and it keeps it alive -and really who cares about the food (which is very good- thanks for asking). Do not miss the deserts- one for evey two or three persons.

Cozy and Quaint

By fun2travel68 |

We stumbled upon this little gem in Manhattan since we arrived late on our first night in New York City. Dinner was so good we came back on our last night because we had to try authentic New York Cheesecake in New York City. Place is always pretty full and has a relaxed, cozy vibe. Burgers are fantastic here. Highly recommend!

Loved this place!!

By Vickie L |

Loved the food and service!! I wish we could have come back for another meal. The oysters were phenomenal! It’s a small, cozy quaint restaurant! Definitely put it on your itinerary if you can.

The best Rueben I've ever had

By Craig A |

Cool old bar, frendly service, try the Rueben, it is stacked corn beef with swiss and saurkraut, the ranch dressin was on the side which I didnt use was enjoying it with the grainy mustard (also served on the side) Fries are delciosu and reminisctent of a mcdonald's fry. Before you gasp, I love mcd's fries, nothing wrong with a shoestring.

Rude uncomfortable service

By Siobhan O |

Between 8 of us we sampled burgers, chicken wings , mac and cheese, pretzels, calamari. The food was average. Before people were finished their main course the wait person asked if we wanted any desserts or coffees. The bill was then put on the table. Dishes were taken without even asking if we were finished, roughly , pushing between people without even an excuse me. A person who appeared to be bussing tables was the worst. The restaurant had empty tables but maybe not for a bigger party. The party decided to leave a tip , not wishing to cause a scene, despite this but a tip for this rudeness where it was clear they wanted us out to get another table in was not deserved and left a sour taste. Would not return.

Quick Lunch

By Shelton5765 |

Stopped into this restaurant for a quick lunch before leaving the city. We weren't very hungry, so we just had soup. The chowder was very good. My wife had tomato soup and it was good as well. The fish and chips looked excellent. I had a little FOMO (fear of missing out). The burgers also looked good. The restaurant is pretty cool on the inside. We will give it a more indepth try on our next trip.

Great NYC burger institution

By Timothy L. Campbell |

A great NYC Burger institution. This place has been here for decades, and refused to sell out to have it demolished for a residential high rise back in the 1980’s The establishment is two stories tall and takes one back to NYC simpler times. The inside, although renovated, still has all the charm of yesteryear! The place is known for its beers on tap, classic cocktails and burgers! It’s reputation still hold up as possibly the second best burgers in the big apple! The burgers and and drinks were great. My only complaint is it is pricey, but this is NYC!

Late night spot near Lincoln Center

By Leslie H |

Great spot for after Lincoln Center events, when most other restaurants are closing— and PJ's is just getting going. Good drinks and burgers, but skip the french fries. They were truly awful.

Disappointing Experience for a Returning Guest Hosting Friends

By George Q |

I’ve dined at PJ Clarke’s many times over the years and have consistently had great experiences, which is why I felt comfortable recommending it to a group of seven friends for dinner on the evening of January 24th. Unfortunately, this visit fell well below expectations and was disappointing, especially as a returning patron hosting guests. The food was uneven. Several dishes arrived lukewarm, and the Gentleman’s Chopped Steak was particularly poor—overcooked, overly sweet due to the glaze, and not enjoyed by anyone at the table. When this was raised, the hostess responded by lecturing the table about the dish and suggesting we should have “read the fine print,” which felt dismissive and unnecessary. It was a busy night, and delays are understandable. However, service fundamentals suffered. Empty dishes were not cleared despite requests, contributing to crowding at the table. As a result, plates were dropped, food spilled onto a guest’s lap and the floor, and there was little acknowledgment or concern from staff when this happened. I understand that every restaurant can have an off night, but what stood out most was the lack of warmth or effort to make the situation right. The overall tone felt distant, even annoyed, rather than welcoming. Given my prior positive experiences, this was genuinely disappointing and frankly embarrassing, considering I had invited a group based on past visits. I’m sharing this feedback in the hope that future diners don’t encounter the same issues, as PJ Clarke’s is capable of doing much better.

Excellent NYC BAR EXPERIENCE

By Kathryn E |

Quintessential NYC bar experience! Stopped in late on a Wednesday night after walking by earlier and observing the crowd and energy! We were hoping to get a seat to watch the end of the Knicks game and we lucked out and were seated quickly! The staff was fantastic and we quickly bonded with Mazin, the manager when he overheard we were from Phoenix! He took amazing care of us- 4 siblings celebrating a 60th birthday! We all loved the history of PJ Clarke’s- and Mazin pointed out the preferred tables of many of its most famous patrons! The burger & fries lived up to the hype and the NEW YORK cheesecake was delicious! We will be back!

Excellent burger in Midtown

By Ildiko T |

Great place for a fine burger or salad or a cheesecake even. Friendly personell, cool bar draft beer. Highly recommended for lunch or dinner. No reservations necessary only for the evenings.

Wonderful lazy late lunch.

By Jacqueline S |

Lovely location overlooking the water. We sat outside under the trees. Service was excellent and my mussels were delicious! Mom had fish and chips and was a good portion and well cooked. Fries were crispy and delicious!

Excellent Food

By Sherry |

Loved this place. Met there for a business lunch and no one had a bad plate. Would go back in a heart beat.

Great experiece

By Karen M |

We are long time New Yorkers. Finally, went to PJ Clarkes. The food (shrimp coctails and salmon) were delicious accompanied by a tasty light pinot noir. Linda, our server, was congenial.

Amazing

By Cora C |

If you are in nyc you must visit this place, it’s autentic, old, real one, is a townhouse, best burger, best music, oysters, ambiance, best waiters, it’s really amazing, it’s our favorite place in town. There are three of them, but the best is in third avenue. The men’s bathroom still the same as many years ago. Love it

Robbed by P. J. Clarke’s via tip

By Gibran Al-Bader |

Im very disappointed with P. J. Clarke’s. I was billed roughly $80 some but when looking at my bank statement I was charged over $200! People be careful with this restaurant as they will modify your tip and over charge you. Never going to this robbing restaurant again.

Fantastic service, amazing manager

By sthollis |

We came in at the end of July because we were in town to move our daughter into her new apartment near the restaurant. Mazin, the manager, greeted us in the lobby and just had a fantastic energy. You asked where we were from and told us of your visits to Colorado. After seating us at Frank Sinatra’s table you proceeded to check on us multiple times to make sure all was well. You came back and were showing us different items on the wall and their significance. To be completely honest it made for a great fun night during a really stressful time of moving her up 5 flights of stairs in crazy hot days. I can see why she loves going there as it’s her favorite place. We’re in the people business too as we’ve been in real estate for 20 years. But we also worked in the restaurant business and know how hard it can be. We strive always to give excellent service to our folks as we serve them during their home search. Too often these days poor service is the norm and that is exhausting for us to see. So when we are treated with such care it really stands out. Thanks again and we can't wait to come back next time we're in town!

Good traditional place

By Alfredo8074 |

Been here before but wanted to try again. Ordered a skillet mac and cheese and a roast chicken club sandwich for lunch. Both were great. The food was very well done and delicious. All at reasonable prices. The service was outstanding. Will always go to pj clarke when in the neighborhood.

A Must !!

By clouseau_7 |

A classic institution in NYC... Whenever I found myself craving for a Cheese burger and shoestring fries..that's where I will go . I usually enjoy the bar scene. At times (early evenings during the week) it can be very busy and very NOISY!! My favourite is lunch time during the weekend

NY 2019

By Jill V |

We were looking for a nice place with a good burger or steak. And yes we found it. P.J Clarkes was very good. The steak and burger were both very, very, very good. No remars. Service was also very friendly.

Wonderful corner spot

By julie h |

I went here solo on a work trip. Wonderful experience from start to finish: friendly hostess; efficient and kind bartender; swift kitchen staff. The food was great: I had tomato soup and a lobster salad, and some wine. Highly recommend. They had the windows/doors open. I didn't sit there, but would be great people watching on a nice night.

CHILI IS BACK ON THE MENU AND BEST IN NEW YORK

By Sherpa31048363648 |

We had dinner delivered and the D. ANDERSON CHILI IS THE BEST CHILI IN NEW YORK. Yes, it's back on the menu for this season. Have it in the restaurant or have it delivered. I first had a PJ Clarke's hamburger with a raw onion under the bun plus a bowl of chili in 1959 when a group of older classmen at Columbia took a few of us there to snow us and get us to join ZBT. We did. I've been eating that there since then. The new owners first took it off the menu but later put it back and IT'S BETTER THAN EVER.

Great atmosphere

By Martin Attwood |

We had dinner at PJ Clarke's this week while on a family holiday to NY. The atmosphere was brilliant - a buzzing NY restaurant. Beware that it can get noisy but we enjoyed it. As with most NY restaurants we visited, the serving sizes are generous including the Oreo Cookie cake that was amazing!

We won't be rushing back...

By Alpaca19 |

Very average. Food was okay not great - burgers and salads. Service was okay not great. The restaurant was pretty crowded and loud, so it was difficult to relax and enjoy the meal. Not the worst experience certainly, but we won't be rushing back.

Deserves its Certificate of Excellence

By Bushman595 |

Ate here twice during a recent stay in mid-town and loved it. The food is exceptionally good for this price range. They have a good range of real ales. The service is fast and friendly and the menu is varied. I can really recommend the ribs - they were delicious and just fell off the bone. The New York cheesecake also excellent. The place was heaving on Saturday night, but the service was still slick. Wouldn't hesitate to return.

Fantastic find

By Ian B |

Wow. What a great find this old style pub was. Did research before we arrived and went to look at the pub last night. It was ALIVE in the bar so we went in. Was shown through to the restaurant, served by amazing people and the food was certainly sensational and reasonably priced. Well done PJ Clarke.

Lunch time in New York.

By Keith N |

Never been here before. My mother got the chili and that was amazing. She spilt it with me, i felt it was just the right amount of spices. It wasn’t overwhelming. Usually some places would go overboard with the spices and one over powers the other. This wasn’t the case. I got the chicken sandwich, that’s was good as well. Again right about if spices. Everyone who we came in contact with that worked there was very nice. I would definitely go there again, and i recommend that if your in the area you go there as well.

Surprisingly Excellent

By JazzyMom1 |

Went to a private party upstairs at a very private space. Excellent food and service. Loved the appetizers especially the sliders. Downstairs it is a bar scene but this private area was great

Traditional American

Very quaint place where traditional American dishes are the master (Hamburger and Lobster rolls in the first place). I highly recommend it for a dinner based on excellent ingredients in a non-tourist location.

Best Burger in Town

By PopeyeD |

Stopped in at the original PJ Clarke’s for lunch recently with my wife. There’s a reason they’ve been around since when the Brooklyn Bridge was brand new. Step back in history as you enter the bar or one of the dining rooms. We started with nice creamy pints of Guinness and the seafood sampler platter (clams, oysters, and shrimp cocktail). Wife had the Clarke Burger and I had the Cadillac Burger (bacon). Perfect amount of fries on the side. Possibly one of the best burgers I’ve ever eaten in my life!!

10/10 Food, service not so much

By Casey G |

The food was absolutely amazing. Both my boyfriend and I ordered a Cadillac burger, he got it with truffle fries, and I got it with spinach. The Cadillac burger or the burger itself at least was amazing upon return, assuming I’m in the mood, I will 100% get a burger. The food significantly brought up my rating, because unfortunately, I did not feel like the service was amazing. Even though there were many empty tables, the waiters kept coming back while I was visibly eating. Asking if I was done? We got in and left within about an hour and 15 minutes, so it’s not like we overstayed our visit. And again most the tables around us were empty and it was seven or 8 PM so it was not anywhere near closing. I also ordered one out to bring home to my family, but that took about 30 maybe 40 minutes to get. It felt a little unnecessary given what the order was. Another complaint of mine was that the waiter hover over me as I was paying and did not give any privacy, but rather asked exactly what I was tipping. In return I tipped more than I would’ve for the service we got. I just felt a little pressured and would’ve preferred maybe a foot of space rather than looking over and waiting. But again, the food itself was so good I would return

Wonderful honeymoon meal!

By JellyKay |

My husband and I went here after an American singer (Amber Marks) recommended PJ Clarke's on British TV (Sunday Brunch) and we were not disappointed. We loved the small, homely building amongst all the skyscrapers and decor inside. We were greeted with a smile as soon as we stepped through the door as well as a celebratory glass of fizz. The food was delicious - we had the soft pretzel pigs in blankets and the Cadillac burger - and it was of a far superior quality to other burgers you would find in NYC. Great service all round!

Evening meal.

I love this place. Real America. Walk in and it’s a bar. Friendly and busy. Back is the food. It’s big portions. It’s real American food. The burgers are ace. The fish and chips is immense. You can also do some great seafood. Oysters are fresh. Beer choice is large. We went twice. Love it.

P.J. Clarke's is in need of a refresh

By Ralph K |

P.J. Clarke's in Lincoln Center should take a lesson from near-by Broadway. On Broadway, when a show has been running for some time, directors often work on the show with the cast to freshen it up and breathe new life into it. P.J. Clarke's should do the same. Our party of four had a 10 pm reservation to cap off a night at the opera with a drink, some appetizers and dessert. That optimistic plan was derailed by a combination of poor service, delayed order and poorly prepared food. We started out OK with the alcoholic drinks, but when I asked for coffee as my drink, I was told they didn't have any! What? No coffee at P.J Clarke's? The one choice was a decaf cappuccino. Not what I was hoping for. The rest of the order took 45 minutes to arrive with one mid-wait apology from our waitress. When our fried vegetable chips finally arrived they were oily and soggy. The french fries were only slightly better. The ice cream and cake were OK. To make up for the delay we were given extra ice cream but since we announced when seated that two of us were Lactose intolerant, extra ice cream was appreciated but not able to be consumed. This was a disappointing and unwelcome ending to a great evening. The P.J. Clarke's name has fun and elegance tied to it but those elements were missing. The setting is still great but the service and the food preparation/presentation need that Broadway refresh!

Great outdoor dining

By Mommy_Michelle |

We recently stopped here to eat while visiting NYC. The location is great on the water and we enjoyed our outdoor dining. Food was good (we had the lobster roll), but service was just ok because our waiter never came back to refill our drinks and I had to ask another employee.

Expected better

We booked in advance of travelling from Ireland. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. Menu needs a revamp - not much choice offered and food not up to standard. I've indicated 'fine dining' in my review - this only reflects price, not the actual dining experience. We were a party of 12ish and were seated upstairs where it was very cold and there was no atmosphere. Overall, disappointing.

Good enough

IN SPITE OF CHILI BEING TAKEN OFF THE MENU AGAIN

By doug100worth |

Although they have taken chili off the menu, PJ Clarke's has been one of my favorite places since 1959 and when my daughter asked where I wanted to go for Father's Day lunch that's where we went. Me, a cheeseburger with a slice of raw onion does the trick. When chili is on the menu, that too. Otherwise, that's it.

still a landmark, and has not lost it's charm

best burgers, lobster rolls, and shrimp cocktail in town. It is such a fun place to eat lunch and dinner... Hope they open 7 days a week soon... They hung in there and like most NYC restaurants they will survive,,,

PJ’s- Good Enough for Sinatra. Enough said..

A true NYC original on the Upper East Side. The mini cheeseburger trio with truffle fries or the lobster roll are always our favorites. Never disappoints.
