This restaurant was beautifully decorated over the top for Christmas. Aside from that, it was all sub par. We waited in line in the cold to get in for over an hour. Once inside, the service was horrible. Waiter came to our table to take our order and to give the check. No water, no bread that was given to other tables. The food was very expensive. Such as a $30 small Cesar salad and $15 for a small plate of kids buttered noodles. The food was very basic and it felt weird to eat it on fine China. The bar ran out of key staple drink ingredients. The bathrooms were dirty and out of toilet paper.

We went here after an evening out on the town, and because it was open pretty late. It wasn't bad, but the service was just so-so and the food was about the same. It looked REALLY cool from the outside, and that was the main reason we stopped in. It's VERY close to one of our favorite Manhatten hotels that we frequent on trips up to NYC so I'm sure we will stop in again and see if there's anything new or different to comment on...

The service was slow and the wait staff kinda forgot us after we get a meal. Reservation desk didn't ask is for our names for check in and then I received an email stating I missed my reservation.

Service was exceptionally slow here. Dining al fresco meant that we didn't have the opportunity to try to flag someone down. While we were made to wait for service they tried to hurry is along once the food came. My friend ordered sliders, had only finished one and they were asking if she was done. Granted at that point I was but iy had more to do with the tough chicken and soggy bread on my sandwich. After eating half I simply couldn't handle eating anymore.

This place is very dark had to use light on my phone so i could read the menu - had a steak and pepper sandwich tasty but a bit short on the steak which was only around the edge empty in the middle!

Not a lot of options in the area for outside lunch dining, so my wife and I recently settled on Papillon, despite the jack-hammering a block away. As confirmed city-lovers, we thought the ability to sit and eat outside in mid-town outweighed the noise -- but not everyone would feel the same. My wife's Pesto Chicken Salad was fine; my "Papillon Shrimp," their signature dish, and the only dish on the lunch menu that was gluten-free, was pretty good, after I brushed away the suspicious fried onions. The Sauvignon Blanc was welcome at $13.50. We'll remember this place when we're again in the area, and hope the noise will be less.

We were here around the festive period and the bar goes ALL OUT! The service was great, good music and such a good atmosphere. The decorations are ridiculous, it is such a great bar but the Christmas tidings are hard to beat. We had a large group and the food was good, but this was definitely more about the experience overall, and the value. I highly recommend year round, but do not miss it going into winter!

While visiting the ClaireTrevor Art Galley, the owner highly recommended this restaurant. Papillon is a well-kept secret. We were seated in the "garden" room, among hanging herbs. Incredible presentation and tasty morsels.

My wife and I spent the day shopping on 5th Ave and Madison Ave and we walked up quite an appetite. We spotted Papillion's and decided to give it a try. Conveniently located and not too busy, we sat inside for lunch due to it bein a cool day. I had the Classic Caesar salad, while my wife had the Fish and Chips. My salad was a little dry at first but they brought me some extra salad dressing and it was great. Clearly the lettuce was fresh and the cheese was obviously fresh grated cheese. My wife said her fish was full of flavor and crispy on the outside. It was a little pricey but then again it is downtown NY. $15 for the salad and $18 for the Fish & Chips (one large piece of fish) but we left quite satisfied and ready to do some more walking. The waiter was polite and professional and we were pleased with our service.

Great meal, service and...ost importantly...the live music, opera...AMAZING time with my friends! No other place like this! I highly recommend to everyone!

Lively, after-work up and downstairs bar and restaurant. Prompt, friendly service welcomes all. Plentiful, diverse food satisfies all. Go often! Have Fun!

Great bar, very busy and dynamic. Excellent, attentive service and good food. I would go back again any day.

Very slow service, but nice place to hang out and have drinks with friends. Great location after shopping on Madison or 5th.

We had an excellent lunch. Their flatbread with prosciutto was excellent as was their kale salad & moules w/ fries.

Basically a big pub that serves food. Not that great to be perfectly honest , service wasn’t up to standard and food not much better The pizza was horrendous

... We called into Papillon for a quick cocktail after a long day. There was no seating in the bar but places in the restaurant. We needed a seat but didn't want to eat - we only wanted one quick drink. They kindly let us sit in the restaurant, finding a table for us to have our drink and rest our feet. We loved the atmosphere and the vibe, one drink turned into two. Three drinks and a delicious array of tapas/snacks later we were on our way! 😉

We ate here on a Sunday evening late in April. The place was very quiet and we ate in the bar, I think there were only two other couples eating. The music was very loud. The food was okay we shared chicken skewers to start and had steak and a burger for mains. I would not return, there are too many other choices in this city.

The Christmas decorations at this restaurant are impressive, but the service is lacking. I try not to be too critical of service, knowing how hard service staff work. However, our experience was disappointing. No friendly service. Just sit down order and don't ask questions about the menu. The food was OK, nothing special and overpriced. Good photo opportunities with Christmas decorations!

Atmosphere was good but really loud. 3 of the 4 of us had the Steak Frites that had to be sawed into to even eat. Was not impressed for the cost.

With a good location im Manhattan, this is more like a bar than a restaurant, even though the food was not bad, the ambiance is bar-like.

We went for dinner. Surprisingly most restaurants in New York seem to close early (I miss the 2.00 AM closings of Delhi) but this one was open longer than most. The music was a little too loud and the patrons even noisier. It was impossible to talk to each other. The steaks were a bit too gristly for my liking. Service was good.

Not that many lunch options nearby after a visit to the Museum of Modern Art on a chilly day, so my wife and I decided to give Papillon, a bistro, a try, especially considering their special lunch options in the window. Well, upstairs was closed for lunch, so the seating options were the bar, and the small high tables and high chairs with very low backs (for some reason, trendy with millennials -- maybe they remind them of the highchairs they sat in as toddlers). We opted for the slightly less uncomfortable wooden bench seats up an 18 inch step, reachable only one side at a time, because the table had to be pushed to let anything other than a model's thigh get between the table and the bench. OK. Surroundings are funky, lamps don't match, kitschy framed prints on the walls, some with big white plastic lumps on them -- the kind of stuff you'd get by visiting New England garage sales. Where's the lunch special menu we saw in the window? You can get that only seated at the bar, our waiter told us. OK. Let's order: Hot Toddy for me ($14), which came warm (not hot), with cloves stuck in the lemon slice hanging on the lip of the glass. My wife will order a drink in a while. What kind of teas do you have, I ask the lady who brings me my drink. Bad move -- she's dumbstruck, no English at all. I say "Get waiter." that works. Three kinds of tea. She'll stick with water. Croque Monsieur ($16) for my wife -- could she have a hot vegetable instead of the fries that come with it? Sure, if you order a side. No thanks. It was fine. I'll have the Sauteed Shrimp on Wild Mushroom Risotto ($26). It was very good. Place was nice and warm, music was good: an entire late John Lennon album. All in all, not bad, but not a lot of reasons to return.

Sat at the bar for lunch with my wife. Chicken sandwich was good. Mozzarella sticks were cold. Only one bartender working and he was overwhelmed. Kinda felt bad for him but felt worse for the customers left waiting.

Papillon is a very lively bar on 56th Street. Large with room upstairs and out the back. Service was good and the bar food enjoyable.

I was very pleased to find this very enjoyable lunch spot! Steak tartare was phenomenal, fresh oysters and a full menu of lunch sandwiches and heavier entrees. Great people watching from the sidewalk tables. Friendly service and a great experience!

Busy, loud and great for a group on friends. Good wine list and easy menu at a fair price. Our server was focused and attentive even with everything going on.

After an evening at the theater, we wanted a place open late (at least 11:30 pm) for casual fare. Papillon has the look of a genuine French bistro, with an atmosphere hovering between shabby-chic and intimate. The long and well-stocked bar on the ground floor is particularly inviting. The chicken quesadilla I tried was tasty and ample for one person, with plenty of chicken and mushroom filling. Papillon also has several TV screens toward the back of the bar for sports fans.

We went to this restaurant on a Sunday night. I made reservations but we didn’t need them (went around 5 pm). We ate in the bar area- the upstairs was closed. The seating and decor were super cute. We sat in an elevated booth. I think most of the seating was elevated in the bar area. The menu was not large, but the food was good. My daughter ordered pizza off the kids menu and loved it. I had fish and chips which were delicious and perfectly crispy. My husband had lamb and loved it. The bathrooms were also very cute. Service was quick, the hostess was gracious, and the waitress was nice but seemed new (she didn’t know much about the menu). I would definitely go again.

My husband and I stumbled upon this restaurant while walking around looking for a decent restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. We decided to give it a try since Paris is a special place for us, and this place definitely has a French flair. First: drinks. I ordered the daiquiri, which was super strong but a bit too sweet for my taste (although I'm not sure what else I could expect from a daiquiri). It was honestly the only thing I could say anything negative about. We ordered the 5 cheese and fruit platter - excellent. I ordered the mussels and they were the best I've ever had. My husband had the scallops and they were also excellent. We were too stuffed to try dessert, but the menu looked very tempting. I was afraid to go to a restaurant on the fly for our anniversary, but this place was a hit. The service was excellent too. Of course, as is true anywhere in NYC, the price tag was hefty - $130 before tip (for cheese appetizer, two meals, a daiquiri and 2 glasses of wine) - but worth it for our special occasion.

I really love this place. The bar is a great place for lunch at an excellent price. The regular food is just ok. Friendly staff. Great place to hang after work. It gets crowded during winter time.

Grabbed delicious lunch with kids delicious salads crab cakes quinoa and calamari relaxed atmosphere and fresh lemonade great character to this place sure bar is great in evenings

We needed a nont-so-crowded place for lunch and Papillon seemed just right. The Fr. onion soup was perfectly fine and my wife’s moules fritte was great. The $20 chef salad not so much. Hormel sliced sandwich ham (stuck together in clumps), congealed bacon bits and torn iceberg lettuce all kind of mixed up in a big bowl is not a composed salad. It tasted about as bad as it sounds. I wanted coffee to get my mind off the salad but what i got was a cold cup-o-joe. The waiter should have been able to catch and correct but he wasn’t paying much attention. Oh and we had two out of control toddlers pulling down dining room decorations sitting next to us — once again the wait staff uninterested in the other diners. Great location and pretty space but it’s hit and miss in the food department.

We had a spontaneous opportunity to enjoy an al fresco dinner with family and their dog. We were so pleased to be seated in a secluded corner where we were able to enjoy conversation and our daughter’s dog. Our pleasure ended, however, with the extremely slow and unengaged service. Our food took much more than a half hour, during which time our server did not check on us even once to see if we needed water or would even like additional beverages. The food was good when finally served but not good enough to make up for the lack of attentive service. It was quite disappointing as the menu and location held great promise.

We popped in mid afternoon for a drink and snacks. Shared chicken skewers (good) and nachos (average) Mint tea cake in a small cup and had to ask for more hot water which took a while to come. Similarly slow with coffee refills but beer was decent Nice atmosphere and play a good mix of music Service was a bit indifferent

I was visiting NYC with my Mom, and we ate at Papillon our first night in town. We were both pleased with our choices. I had the Salmon with asparagus risotto and Mom had the fried oyster appetizer with a side of French fries. Everything except the fries were great! The fries weren't crispy. A few days later we dined upstairs where it was more quiet than the bar area, and we had burgers and fries. This time we asked for the fries crispy and they were perfect. The burgers were cooked exactly as ordered.

My husband and I had a very nice alfresco lunch while visiting Manhattan. We both had excellent salads, with crisp arugula and nice additions. Prices were typical Manhattan. Service was prompt and efficient. The inside of the restaurant is gorgeous, with a huge bar.

I had lunch here today for the first time. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for Halloween. The staff was very friendly. And the whole place was clean. I had the vegetarian quiche. I’m sorry to say it was awful. It tasted as if it was frozen store bought quiche. Do yourselves a favor and don’t order it.

My daughter and I stopped in for lunch, It's got a great atmosphere. My food was ok but I thought it could have been better. It looks better than it tasted. We ordered mozzarella with tomato. The tomato should have been a lot better than it was especially where where the dish showcases the tomato. The crab case has a different recipe than what I normally find at restaurants. I didn't care too much for the taste. I ordered the beet salad. It was ok. I think it was too much of a beet taste. Hard to explain. I've had it better at other restaurants. My daughter enjoyed her sandwich. Pappillon isn't a bad restaurant it just isn't great.

Despite booking this table months ago as travelling from the UK, our table wasn’t ready so they pushed two odd height tables together that would comfortably fit about 6 people, there was 9 of us! Apparently although the upstairs was empty that was the only table option! Service was slow & when an item was missed we were told “well the kitchen is shut now!” We had only just been given our mains, no chance of a dessert then! Shrimp pasta dish had 4 shrimps in it, had to search for the meat in the steak sandwiches. Over priced & under delivered in every aspect. Save your money & time & avoid this restaurant.

Led by manager Jenny, this dining experience was fantastic. We came across the restaurant accidentally as tourists & the staff looked after us well: highly professional & nothing was too much trouble. Reasonably priced, lovely food & a great atmosphere - highly recommended !! Marie from the UK.

we ate lunch ,pancakes were not quite fried to the almost raw food turned to the waiter. ordered the French toast was ok but nothing special and the steak with scrambled eggs and vegetables steak was very well done.

Had a Burger and Fires before flying home, really enjoyed it, the place itself has a lot of character, the beer was good and service good.

Been to Papillion a few times for drinks and also recently for lunch. I really like the vibe as it has a great bar area on the main floor as well as another bar upstairs. The food is always great and the service is tops. The waitresses are all extremely friendly. Tons of beers on taps and also a fantastic brunch menu. As there are not many choices around mid-town east, Papillion is the best!

Ate here one Sunday lunch time. Pleasant enough serving staff. Limited menu. Burger ok but nothing special but french fries were ghastly. They had obviously been cooked sometime previously and heated up......soggy and greasy. There are so many better place to eat. For $5 dollars more we had excellent huge delicious club sandwich as well as freshly cooked French fries at a bar just round the corner.

This two-story building, engulfed by the skyscraper, was originally six stories. It has an extraordinarily complex history. In 1979, the then owner, an Irish bartender, refused to sell the lower two stories rehung he owned as a of condominium. That part of the story: The top four floors of No. 22 East 54th Street were demolished and the new tower, designed by Swanke Haden Connell & Partners, engulfed the old Reidy’s Restaurant portion. During construction Maurice Reidy hung a sign outside his business: “Reidy’s Restaurant will stay at this location and will remain OPEN while the men play with their erector set. Thank you.” The restaurant/bar portion enjoys a great reputation in the neighborhood, and sometime I plan to stop by and check out that feature as well. In the meantime, I like to walk by and see this bit of NYC history.

Brunch was great- the coffee was strong & hot, food was delicious (eggs Benedict, lox platter, French toast w berries, etc). Some plates came with an alcoholic drink gratis. Place tends to be empty on Sunday afternoons they say. Feels elegant & the wait staff is very gracious. Restaurant is very close to great shopping area.

Just stopped in for a break and a cocktail. Busy crowded midtown during Christmas crowds. Friendly and welcoming. Had a bourbon drink that started with a cedar plank and an acetylene torch to smoke the glasses. Single square I exuberant and a large orange peel were added before the bourbon and cherry bitters were added. A fireplace in a glass. Delicious. Ordered a charcuterie board and spent a wonderful ½ hour recharging to continue to 5th Ave Christmas windows and the tree. A holiday tradition begun.

We came here in October in the spirit of Halloween and really enjoyed entire atmosphere. For food we got the spinach dip and it was pretty good. It came with pita chips. They have an appetizer deal so if you come with a big group it can be very cost effective. Drinks we got the cocktails and they were surprisingly strong. They tasted good, usual cocktails - nothing special. Service: The service was pretty slow and there were a few times we had to flag our server down. Price: The price of the drinks and appetizers are the usual NYC prices. Overall, I felt like it was an average bar for food and drinks however the decor really made a big difference in the atmosphere and it was a fun experience. Perk of this place: It's on Seated, so I got cashback. If you don't have the app, try it out. If you use code Forum1, you'll get $10.

Bar with late night dancing on the second floor and food on the first floor. Came here post-office holiday party and it was pretty lit. Stayed here until 3am on a Thursday night and ended on eating some chicken tenders and chicken skewers (people didn’t like the peanut sauce but I was in the minority that did). The DJ mainly played bangers from the 90s and early 2000s, and people were dancing around all over the place. There was one big fan which helped cool you off if you stood in front of it, but otherwise it gets pretty stuffy. People just left their coats on the booths since there wasn’t a coat check. There is an elevator you could take to get to the second floor but the stairs do look pretty. It was nicely decorated for Christmas and it’s very festive. When we ate downstairs after getting directed away, we ordered at the bar and they gave us the food. It did take quite a bit of time to receive them, and I was surprised there wasn’t table service. Overall though I had a fun time, and the food satiates you.

We stopped in here for a last minute lunch and we should have kept walking. The food was just average and the server seemed to forget we were there. The majority of our food came out warm instead of hot. The ham and cheese sandwich was just disgusting! It had just one very thin slice of ham on it and was drenched in a block of cheese, both inside the sandwich and all over the top. On a good note, the manager did not bill us for the ham and cheese sandwich and did give us a 10% discount on our bill. With so many great choices to eat at, I recommend passing on this one.

We wondered into Papillion by accident and was told "It's Opera Night!" Well we went upstairs and decided to eat supper here. Then the music started - This was great. There were three guys (tenors) who sang various numbers from many different operas. Then they did the three tenors. The young lady who sang numbers from Porgy and Bess - beautiful - BEAUTIFUL...... We really enjoyed the evening. When everyone who had sung plus half the staff got up and sang as group it brought the house down. Great night - just go along and enjoy - every Saturday night Dinner & Opera.........

Very good find in midtown East - went for brunch and had the Eggs Benedict and the Eggs Norwegian (which is the same as Eggs Benedict except salmon for the Canadian Bacon). Mimosa comes with the dishes - all very good. Service was good. Definitely would like to return.

Definitely a favorite and repeat restaurant when in Aruba....food is always consistently delicious and prepared to our liking. Service is top-notch. We were able to enjoy again recently, and we loved the live trumpet player. Thank you once again!

Terrible service!! The decoration is pretty, but NOT worth the waiting in line. The waiter and mangers were rude…the food not worth the price. I was expecting a Christmas happy atmosphere, instead we got terrible service and a terrible atmosphere. Wouldn’t recommend anyone to wait more than an hour for this place!

Went in here 3 times twice just for drinks and once for drinks and a meal thought it was a bit expensive for drinks prices varied depending on which bar person you got it had a good atmosphere with decent music playing. The last night we were there we had steak baguette with fries my wife wasn't to keen on it .i thought it was ok but the fries were to well done for me. Thought the waitress was a bit over the top always asking if we were ready for drink while still trying to make up our minds don't know if I would eat here again but would go in for drinks.

We decided to try a Papillon bistro and were not disappointed. It was a wonderful evening listening to the popular arias and enjoying a beautiful lady pianist. It's the restaurant and you order some food and drink however it's not the main reason we visited the place, although I should say the service and the meal itself were of the decent quality. The only lousy thing was that I got a very flimsy chair which was ready to break ( and I don't carry those extra extra pounds: )) , so I persuaded myself that someone was just rocking it due to terrific mmusical soire. Oh, and an artistic atmosphere reminded me the scenes from the movies about the Old World charms. We will definitely cime back.

Walked in about 2pm on a Thursday - no problem getting a table of 7 - friendly staff, excellent decorations, quick service, nice bottle of wine with classic American Bistro food.

I have only been for the lunch at the bar where you can have burger & beer for $15. It seems otherwise a regular midtown eatery.

This is a a good go to in midtown for lunch a drink or a quick evening meal. The menu is extensive and drinks are ok. Service is great k but can be slow.

The Place is cozy for drinks, relaxing and nicely decorated for the holidays. The order did take a little longer, maybe because it was really busy on a Sunday. We order two appetizers but it took a while to get the appetizer. The appetizers were ok, but drinks were good.

Great location just off 5th, and a really warm and welcoming place. It has a busy bar scene, but the dining room upstairs is away from the noise and is really lovely and comfortable. The room is pretty loud and hard to hear, but I am getting older and that may be my issue. Nice beer list, nice traditional bistro menu, but nothing very inventive. The calamari had a very basic sauce that wasn't very distinguishing, and the sauce served with the steak frites was pretty tasteless... And it came in a plastic cup. Come on, any place that charges $18 for a glass of wine can put the sauce in a ceramic cup. The steak and the pasta entrees were very good, and the service was spot on. Loved the bartender on the second floor as well. It's a nice place. I would certainly return.

We had the brunch and it was okay, nothing out of this world. The Canadian bacon was very good, the free bloody Mary was mediocre so went with the mimosa next which was not much better. Loved the Halloween atmosphere and the staff was very friendly.

Stopped in about 11pm for a late dinner. Staff was very friendly and worked hard to serve the ever-increasing number of patrons. I would seek out Papillon again for the flatbread pizza with arugula, fontina, prosciutto and large tomatoes. It was delicious! Nice atmosphere.

Called in here twice for drinks as we enjoyed the atmosphere. The first time the service was a little slow, but the second time a very pleasant barmaid was very efficient. (Sadly I believe she was due to leave to move to Las Vegas). Certainly worth calling in for a beer after walking around the busy parts of NYC.

Stopped in after walking out of the park and looking for a late lunch. Great moules fritas, good service, nice ambiance and they were very accommodating to our kids - had a small kids menu. Perfect for what we were looking for.

This place was decked out for the holidays. We weren't able to get reservations but they let us find our own seats at the bar and luckily we were able to find a spot. The drinks were unique and the food was good. I would recommend during the holidays because it was very cute.

Great food selection and even better bar selection but the place is extremely crowded. I have yet to feel comfortable in the sea of so many people.

This resturant has a great selection, good food and good kids menu. We enjoyed our dinner and all of our meals were good. Service was excellent.

Service was very very slow, especially for a weekday. We ordered stuffed mushrooms and two salads. The mushrooms, while good, were button mushroom caps - the smallest stuffed mushrooms I've ever seen. On the salads, one person asked if they could get it without cilantro - it was 45 minutes and after our appetizers that he came back and said no, they could not leave out the cilantro... 45 minutes! We waited another 20 minutes to get two beet salads. We sat at a hightop table by the window - a great spot for people watching - just don't look up. The hanging lights are SO covered with dust and grim that had I seen that first, I might have left. I will say though that the beet salads were delicious.

We were actually on our way to a Greek further down the road when we passed this restaurant. We were too hungry so we decided to try it out. Yeah that was a bad idea. Food was below average and sad looking. We ordered the calamari to start with and it was really blunt. We followed it with Margherita flatbread and the Papillon salad. The flatbread was real sad and the bread thin, dry and tasteless. Think was just from frozen. The wooden platter the flatbread was served was all flaking and looked really unhygienic. Salad was slightly better but was lacking cheese and the fried onions were soggy. For drinks I had a glass of Prosecco and my friend a pint of Stella. Our drinks were fine. Will we go ahead? Maybe for drinks only.

We were touring all afternoon and stopped, asked if it was ok that we just wanted to sit outside and order drinks..they said no problem. It was pretty empty outside 3 other tables with people.ordered 3 alcohol drinks and one soda..which here in PA we call pop and the waiter said they didn't have pop lol so I ordered a diet coke., which was 6 oz and was $6. My friend ordered a peach spritzer, which was 16 bucks..8 for a glass of beer and 10 for a bloody mary...I finished my pop and my friend her spritzer, the other 2 were almost done and planned on ordering another when the waiter came, took my coke and spritzer glass away, never asked if we wanted anything else..guess that was the hint to move on..the tables were still empty and no one was waiting..wouldn't go back there again

Called in off the street for a family lunch , the boy was happy as Barcelona were playing soccer on the bar TV ! Service was good , Vodka Tonics were heavy on the Vodka but I'm not complaining !!! Food was good and filling . Would definitely go back , the place has a nice old style feel and when it's full I bet it has a great New York Tavern vibe !

They say they don't take reservations. Well they don't for the general public. However they have an arrangement for tour groups to come, We stood in line for 2 1/2 hours on 12/5 while 1 tour finished up and 2 more were allowed in before the rest of us "you can't make reservations" people stood in line. They would let you go in and use the bathroom. I suggest you go in, look around, take your pictures and go eat somewhere else. The food was average. We had burgers and a chicken sandwich. Neat decorations, but not really worth a 2 1/2 hr wait.

We booked for Christmas Dinner, and when we arrived there was a massive queue. Seems they were quite short staffed, and we had to argue to have our booking honoured. When we got inside maybe 50% of the tables were occupied. The place is amazingly decorated, but the food is so/so and the service is well below average. We watched one of the staff clean a table by flicking everything on the floor (including used toothpicks) and then waving a dirty cloth over it. If you’re going for the atmosphere, then it’s probably worth doing, but not for the food or service.

Perfect warm home look of a bar. Nice countertop seating both upstairs and ground floor. Nicely decorated during holiday season. Above average taste for american classic food dishes. Nice way to enjoy couple of drinks with your pals.

Spent the day in NYC with a group of work friends and enjoyed a nice dinner at Papillon. Inventive drink menu and nice selection of apps. Service was attentive as our group of 9 kept them on their toes. Beautifully decorated for the holidays. Would love to return and try other items on the menu.

This multi level French brasserie caught our eye by sheer luck! I love the beautiful entrance to the restaurant very colorful. They have a full bar service and a live opera on Saturday nights. Our server Jorge G. Was so helpful and engaging. I think he sensed it was our time here! We ordered the seared salmon and croque monsieur and truffle fries because why not!

Upstairs there are tables around a small stage and piano. The food is served promptly and with a smile. Throughout we were entertained by very talented opera singers who sang from musicals and well known operas. There were three young sopranos and three tenors/ baritones. They sang solos, duets and even quartets. They have wonderful voices and create a happy atmosphere. For people with birthdays the restaurant provides a cake with a flame and the singers sing an operatic happy birthday. The food is very good and the menu extensive. The service is friendly and the wines were great.

I never would have found this NYC gem without the recommendation of a friend. My three days, two night visit to NYC was highlighted with a Saturday evening at Papillon. Saturday evenings in the upstairs dining room is an open mic opera. I have never seen or heard anything like it before....and it was incredible. I did not eat here, but I had several drinks. The service is impeccable, I was even taken care of by the manager during the evening. The atmosphere is classic Italian, close your eyes and step back 60 years to Italy.....I fell in love with this place. Great location to my hotel (Shoreham) and I would return here without hesitation.

This is a good little bar and place to grab a bite to eat. The food is well priced and they also offer lunch specials for less than $20.

We enjoyed a nice lunch at this restaurant/bar near our hotel and close to a lot shopping. Service was good and food was too. Nothing exception but good.Next time I will sit upstairs as it look brighter and roomier.

Just a quick stop in for drinks. Decor is eclectic, service was good considering they are seriously short staffed. Truffle fries were good and crispy. Drinks were a mixed bag. Smoked old fashioned had a very artificial smoke taste, but the regular old fashioned was great.

We were happy to find a spot to eat on our way back to our hotel after attending a show. We sat at the bar. Caesar salad and chicken skewers were good. French fries were soggy and luke warm. The place had a smell like mold so I couldn't wait to leave. The bartender was nice but not very attentive. I won't return.

We really enjoyed our time at Papilon. I ordered the Salmon and my husband had a burger. Both meals were delish, the beer cold and my wine was perfect. The wait staff was attentive but not bothersome, and we wer able to relax and take our time. Highly recommend.

If you are here at Christmas this restaurant is a must. The decorations are beautiful and the food was delicious. Best hamburger Ive ever had!

Wonderful food and wine selection. Great food. I am a vegetarian and had no problem finding something to eat. What a great way to kick off the weekend!

I visited Papillon twice while in NYC recently. Once for drinks on a Friday night which was pumping with the after work crowd and fantastic tunes. The other, for dinner with the girls before hitting the Beacon theatre across town to see Jerry Seinfeld. Again Papillon was packed and pumping out great tunes from across the decades. The atmosphere is really welcoming and like a party, the drinks and food are excellent here and reasonably priced. I highly recommend Papillon for any kind of night out.

Since we usually stay at the Hilton within walking distance, and have been going here for 13+ years, we were pleased they were still in business after Covid. The pool table in the back is gone where our 6 yr. old son at the time learned to play. We ate upstairs later in the evening. The Moules Frites and my husband's steak frites were cooked very well. We shared a nice crisp Caesar salad.

We stopped in here unplanned for a light lunch. The menu is varied, with a number of tasty choices. I had tuna tartare, which was excellent. The service is attentive without being intrusive. It's quiet enough to converse, unusual for NYC.

Gorgeous Christmas decorations but the service was AWFUL. We had to ask other attendees to find our server. When k walked in another guest was complaining to the hostess about her server. So it seemed to be a common problem at this restaurant. Also for all the Christmas theme, there are no special holiday drinks.

Great hamburgers and beer. Good service. No frills, no big deal but very fast. Order food and it is there. I loved the tomato soup.

I went here with mom and my kids for dinner one night during a recent visit. Not a bad choice but I am sure there are better choices for this particular area of town. There are things that I love and things that I hate. The good: Super cool old school layout and vibe; fancy but not too stuffy. Big time singles scene crowded with young professionals doing happy after work. Good looking, upscale professional crowd along the bar upstairs and downstairs. Great service. Delicious food. The bad: Very smallish and limited menu; very pricey. Prices are painfully high given that portions are decidedly small. Small enough that you will likely need to eat somewhere else immediately afterwards (if you are very hungry). Prices are more like $$$ or perhaps $$$$ range given the portioning (definitely not $$ range). Commentary: We started off with splitting a calamari appetizer amongst the 4 of us; the calamari was perfectly flash fried but consisted of only fried rings (no tentacles). Served with remoulade sauce & came with two lemon wedges for sprinkling on some citrusy zest. Delicious! but pricy at $17.00. My shrimp entree had 5 average size shrimp on top of disc shaped bed of mushroom risotto. The disc shaped bed of risotto was roughly the size of a chewing tobacco can (think Copenhagen or Skoal). The lemon butter sauce was exquisitely good though. The price tag was $26.00. My son's scallop dish had exactly 4 average sized scallops on top of cheese / butter mashed potatoes. I did not taste his dish, but it did look good and he raved about it. The price tag was $29.00. My son and daughter LOVED the loud, top 40 tunes blaring from the invisible speakers; however, I felt like the music would be more suited for a teen dance club (not a old school style restaurant). My mom and my daughter ordered salads. Each salad with no added extras were priced at / around $15.00 each. My daughter added grilled chicken to her salad - which upped the price considerably; however, the grilled chicken addition was perhaps the most generous portioning of the entire meal. We also ordered fries and 2 desserts to split amongst the four of us; no complaints there. The price tag for the meal with tax and tip was around $175.00 (ouch!). Bottom line: Service is good and very attentive. If you want delicious food that comes in small portions with big prices, then this place will fulfill your needs / desires. Great atmosphere & ambience. Solid 3 Stars

Met my son for a quick drink and dinner. Really nice place with cool / young vibe. Great burger. Only down side was the loud music made it difficult to have a conversation. May be showing my age ;)

If you do your research before then you know there will be a wait, so no surprise. There are two lines, one for the restaurant and the other for the bar. The bar moves quicker, and is good if you just want a drink - or are willing to take pot luck on room to sit and eat, because you can eat at the bar. And OK, you are queuing outside, but not only do they keep you updated on the wait time, they also bring out hot chocolate for you. Staff all friendly and helpful despite how busy it is. And the decorations are wonderful. We had the caprese salad - light and simple but fresh and a nice balsamic dressing. Will come back to see the Halloween decorations.

In walking distance to Omni Berkshire, we went as a family and the children were very happy. There were many great options and a lively atmosphere.

Basically one of the worst meals iv'e had.Chewy steak, barely cooked fish,Poor waiting staff.Meal put down then waiters no-where to be seen till they noticed two plates of food on the table hardly touched. They couldn't care less.So many more places to go that have 10x better food and waiting staff .

Papillon is such a fun place to eat. Great menu, good food and two great bars, on the main floor and upstairs. Always good!

We had a great lunch here and my daughter was highly amused at the Halloween decorations that were up. We would definitely go back

The 7 of us wanted a quick bite and drink in between shopping . Stopped at Papillon at around 4 o’clock and place was not busy . Nice interior . However , we waited forever to get our cocktails and the kids their pop . We ordered the cheese plate as well as the meat plate . It took as long as trying to make the cheese your self . The plate was underwhelming. Then next , you guessed it , it took forever to bring bill . To top of this disaster ... the waiter put on 30 percent tip on final bill

If familiar with this area, one common thread is that it lacks "fun". The place is on the stuffy side and its work work work. This place allows you to loosen the tie and enjoy a frosty beverage while eating some great grub. Boasting a bar upstairs and downstairs, both with professional bartenders, this place has great lunch deals and better priced drinks then any place in the area. Around the corner from the st.Reggis and right off Madison, this place allows you to relax and enjoy life.

My wife and I stopped here for brunch while enjoying the holiday season in New York City. We were ushered to a table on the second floor promptly, We ordered the brunch which included a drink, my wife had a Mimosa and I ordered a Bloody Mary, both were very good, the Bloody Mary had shaved fresh horseradish which gave the drink its kick. I ordered an omelette with ham, onion and cheddar cheese and my wife ordered Eggs Benedict. Both were very good and were accompanied by fresh home fries that were made with both pepper and onion chunks. Our waitress was a bit unattentive and we had to resort to asking a hostess to provide butter for my toast, but that would not detract me from coming back.

Very good. Picturesque. With a privileged location. You can go without reservation and in other safe places. Mediterranean food

I have been going to The Papillon for many years, every time I was in NYC. But today was my las time! Terrible , unfriendly service. Basically had my salad thrown in my face, no cutlery, had to ask for it. Did not bring my drink or water until I asked for it. And then, the expect 20% tip????? Get a life !!!! Never going back........sadly cause I really liked the place, especially the table by the window

I went into Papillon Bistro around 4 pm with my sleeping 16-week-old in a stroller with a friend in attempt to eat. They did not have any reservations left for the evening upon my request. I proceeded to the bar. that is first come, first serve. The hostesses told me I could not sit at the bar for food with the baby. No problem. I requested a reservation for the next available date. The hostess "There are no reservations available for the rest of December. I then ask "you do not have any reservations left for the rest of the month?" They both replied "You have a baby. We cannot make reservations for you". I requested to speak to the manager. The manager Manuel is helping other people you are going to have to wait. After ten minutes. I requested to speak with the manager again. The hostess "He is helping other people". I have been going to Papillons since 2019. My favorite restaurant in the city until this evening. I hope to share this event to prevent other moms from the level humiliation I felt.

We had visited the 9 11 Memorial and decided to walk for a while. My niece and I decided we wanted to have Carbornara for lunch. Using Yelp I found the nearest restaurants. This one came up as being one of the closest. We were the first customers there. We opted to eat inside. They did not have Carbornara on the menu but the chef was happy to prepare for us. The staff were attentive without being over bearing. We enjoyed our meal including desert and wine. Would definitely recommend this place.

My friends and I came across this restaurant and decided to have lunch there. Great choice.... It's a lot bigger than you think when you get in. We were upstairs, which had a really vibrant feel about the place. The menu had a lot of choice and the service was very good. The food was of a really high quality and was good value for money. I really recommend the crab cakes, which were excellent. We are planning to visit again in a few weeks......

This bistro is age old and unique to other restaurants. It has a Parisian flare. The food is delicious and some choices original. Loved the atmosphere and the staff. Will return.

We were introduced to Papillon on a walking tour where the guide showed us how the original house that Papillon occupies was a holdout from modernization of the block and a skyscraper was built around it. We thought it looked intriguing and went back for lunch. The place didn't seem that busy, but without a reservation we were seated in a rather cramped corner of the bar area. One of our seats was a high bench that the table didn't come very close to due to it's base. that meant one of our party had to sort of perch and eat. One of our dishes, a black forest ham and guyere sandwich was to die for. Nothing else mattered after that!

Short visit to NYC. A gem in an area that goes quiet at weekends and early in the week. Especially if you are in one of the nearby hotels. Good food and drink, excellent musical choice (especially for a Monday). DJ apparently on Thursdays.

We had an average dinner here. We went there because my wife found it on Instagram. It was highly decorated with Christmas. No doubt. That was great. Food was okay and expensive (on par with NYC). Service was okay. I probably wouldn't go again, but if you love to be in the Christmas spirit, it may work for you.

A friend and I were looking for a late lunch after time in Museum of Modern Art, and happened upon this bistro. We enjoyed the experience, except for the noisy patrons watching an European soccer game. It was 3 pm and the restaurant / bar was filled. A pleasant waiter took our order, and the food was delicious: I had a white bean salad with seared tuna, and my friend had a quiche with arugula salad. Portions were ample.

My wife and I had just visited the MOMA and were searching for a decent restaurant when we stumbled upon Papillon. We looked over the menu and my wife ordered a turkey burger and I ordered a tuna sandwich. My wife raved about the tasty burger on a brioche bun that came with with a generous helping of salad greens. My tuna was cooked the way I like it, rare. Service was excellent.

In Midtown Manhattan on business this week. Decided to meet an old high school buddy for lunch at Papillon Bistro since it was only about two blocks from my conference hotel. Fantastic decor and vibe. Feels like a Mediterranean bistro coupled with an Irish pub. We ate at the bar on the second floor, so that we could get the lunch special. The lunch special was a sandwich with a side, and a beer for $17. Remember this is Midtown Manhattan! What a deal! My friend got a burger with a side salad and a beer, and I got the pesto chicken sandwich with a side salad and a Stella Artois. My friend commented several times that the burger was “substantial” and quite good. My pesto chicken sandwich was also very good. However I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that the sandwich came with cheddar cheese on it. I thought it was an odd choice to pair cheddar with pesto. Usually I would have expected Parmesan or mozzarella cheese. And yet, it still worked. Overall, we had a great experience and I would highly recommend.

We planned to see the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree and Saks 5th Ave windows and wanted to find a place to stop for dinner. We looked for a spot a few blocks away as not to get trapped with 'tourist prices" in the heart of Rockefeller Center. Papillon fit the bill perfectly. The place was very charming and it was decorated really cute for Christmas. The building has a lot of character. We ordered a Caesar Salad (very nice) as an appy. He had the sauted Shrimp, I had the spaghetti carbonara. We enjoyed our meals and the pricing was very reasonable for NYC. it was a bit too loud when we were there - as there was a private party close by to where we were seated. That said that's December in NYC- right?. I would go back to try again when the area isn't overrun with tourist and holiday parties. We really did like the atmosphere and charm. Would recommend.

Lunch was fantastic. We wandered in while checking out the windows on 5th ave. Beautifully decorated and great food/service.

I have eaten here several times, mostly because it is convenient for someone in New York who I visit. After several visits, however, I think I can recommend it. We have found it to be consistent: decent food, not outrageous prices, and efficient service. My wife finds the muscles always good. My son likes the pesto chicken sandwich. I have tried different sandwiches, and most are consistently good. So, if looking for a nice lunch, I can recommend Papillon.

Came here for their Christmas decorations and it was amazing! Came Friday late evening—there was a line, but it wasn’t a long wait. Massive amounts of decorations all throughout the restaurant! Very energetic vibe here and it’s crowded so a lot of people can be in your way as you take photos. But definitely worth checking out their Christmas decor!

Awesome spot to meet new friends. On your own or with friends, the more the merrier! Great ambience to escape from the daily routine. See you there.

Tons of tinsel and ornaments adorn this old fashioned bistro, and the food is so good you will come here year round! Take a holiday card worthy pic on the staircase for the best view!

So noisy that we decided to eat outside in a kind of chill wind. Had the coconut shrimp, croquet monsieur, and Pinot noir. The food was excellent and served hot.

This was our first and we will go again. Great decorations for the holiday and they food and beverages were great and delicious.

We chose to try Papillon based on a few reviews, the physical look of the bar area being attractive, and it being part of the iDine program. We found the $20 cheese platter of 3 selections to be a bit of a joke. The wine was fine. The on tap beer selection was excellent. I did get to order one I never have a chance to order elsewhere, Boddingtons. The wife wasn't happy so we opted for another place to order entrees. I would have probably been happy with a burger, but "Happy Wife, Happy Life" ruled that decision. We moved on.

My friend and I had dinner here on a Thursday evening during Happy Hour and it was so noisy, we left early. We couldn't enjoy our meals or the conversation.

This is a great place to go for drinks. I don't really see an happy hour special but hey it is what it is. This place has tons of bar space, Upstairs or Down Stairs. Bartenders are great and make great drinks. Especially my boy Jeremy! This is a place you should check out, the vintage decor also is great!

When you walk in the first impression is of a bar/cafe in paris. The decor is perfect, although the tables are a bit more spaced out here. We were walking past and noticed a premier league game we wanted to watch so popped in. Unlike the sports bars I've been in over here this game was on all 3 or 4 tv's in the bar and they were spread out so it wasn't compulsory to watch, but if you were watching there was not the distraction of baseball, hockey, basketball and motor racing. The football was a bonus but the food was the star. I had steak which was very reasonably priced and really good. The food and drink are very good in both quality and value and the staff are great. I went back 2 days later, not to watch football but to try the lovely looking hamburgers and I wasn't let down. Great place for lunch.

Really enjoyed our lunch at Papillon during a recent day trip to NYC! This is a must-see when visiting during Christmastime.. the restaurant is decked from floor to ceiling with Christmas lights and decorations. Reservations are HIGHLY recommended. We visited on a Monday afternoon and they were not accepting walk-ins (they looked short-staffed). We were very fortunate that the hostess made room for us at the bar. Extra lucky because the $20 lunch special was only served at the bar seating. Got the grilled chicken pesto sandwich and everything was fantastic. Decent-sized sandwich, delicious chicken, and fries were included. Would recommend to others visiting NYC at Christmas!

I really like this bar and restaurant a lot. It’s really big with 2 floors. The food was also good, so good place to have a meal. We went there in December so the whole place was decorated in Christmas decorations.

Stopped in for lunch with a friend. We loved the French bistro atmosphere. This restaurant offered good salad options as well as entrees. Service was pleasant, quick and accommodating. It was not noisy, and we were not on top of the people next to us. It was a very pleasant surprise.

We had a family dinner before a Broadway show and had the fortune to pick this restaurant. It lies on walking distance from Times Square but still in a street without too much traffic. The manager welcomed us in the door and our booked table was set and ready. The service was quick and the food excellent, at least their hamburger and Moules Frites. No-one in our party was dissatisfied. The restaurant also offered fast wifi, free of charge. When the bill arrived the end sum was very reasonable for a party of six and all that nice food. The only downside was that the room was a bit noisy, but all in all this was a perfect start of an evening out in Manhattan.

I used to be a regular at this spot back in the day. But today, after what feels like forever, I decided to swing by again, and you know what? It's exactly how I remembered it. The vibe is still good, service is on point, and the place is buzzing with energy. The food menu has had a major glow-up since my last visit, change can be good, but I couldn't help but miss some of the classics, especially those epic nachos. Still, didn't let that spoil my fun. Tip: if you're ever around during Halloween or the holidays, this place transforms into something straight out of a movie. Seriously, the decorations are next level and totally add to the whole vibe of the place. Trust me, it's worth checking out in the midst of the city hustle.

My wife and I try to always visit this restaurant when we are in the City. On a recent trip we did so, but left soon after entering the establishment. While it was chilly outside on the street the interior of this place had to be at least 85 degrees, if not more. It was, to say the least, uncomfortable. Let’s try to save some electricity and reduce the inside temperature to something around 70.

We went here on 26th December. We stumbled upon it by chance but we had planned to go here at some point over our trip anyway because of the decorations. We waited for about 25 mins and asked if we could just have light bite/dessert and a beer, but as we had our 6 year old son with us we couldn’t sit in the chat areas had to be upstairs. We waited, sat down and then when the waitress came we asked for 2 lagers and 3 desserts however they said they had NO desserts at all. Not even ice cream. That was a bit awkward so my son and myself were pretty disappointed! In the end we just asked for a plate of fries and the lagers. The fries came within 2 minutes and the lagers took 30 mins to arrive! By which time we just wanted to get out of there as it was a total waste of time. What top restaurant has so desserts!?!? I wish we were told this when we said at the start we came for dessert! Good decs, but lacked in every other way :(

A large group of us were among many such large groups in this very popular and bustling bar in mid-town with many nooks, rooms and two large floors. It is an easy menu, a friendly bar and not over the top expensive. But it can be crowded and noisy if you end up on a day with a lots of groups, as we did.

Stopped for dinner and ordered a couple burgers and beer. There was nothing special about the place. The service was not attentive in any way and the food was easily forgettable. Sat outside because the music was incredibly loud inside and our views were completely blocked by large suv's parked and waiting for UN types eating at other locations nearby. That's not their fault, but it didn't make the experience any more enjoyable. If in this neighborhood, keep looking for someplace else to spend your money.

I was unable to make a reservation here as they claimed they don’t take reservations, only walk ins during November and December! So I joined the queue for a table yesterday outside the restaurant, the guy kept coming out and asking over and over ‘ how many in your party’ then disappearing, to then come again, same question, the queue didn’t seem to be moving and I noticed people were walking in and getting seated! I went in to see what was going on to be told these people have reservations!!!! Why I asked is that possible if you do not take reservations? Oh they made these months ago! ( I tried in October to no avail) This system does not work!! They should only have walks only or reservations only! My two grand children were freezing, of course I expected to wait but for got one and half hours, it was only when I got really cross and told them so they found us a table around the back by the bar! We were just grateful to get food. The wait staff were really nice to be fair! Very accommodating and rushed through the children’s food order. The place is beautifully decorated, hence why all the interest, food is ok it’s basically a French cafe. My advice is just walk in take a photo and go somewhere else lol

Staff were really brilliant, nothing too much trouble, food was great. You have restaurant and bar upstairs and bar bistro downstairs, loved the music. We found this on our first night, and it was fairly quiet but getting busier as we left. The next time it was busy busy but service was just as good and quick. Would go again next time in New York.

This is our go-to place with colleagues for lunch or drinks and dinner after work. Much lower cost than other places in the area. Decent service and good food. Decor is beautiful like a Parisian bistro.

We popped in for a Saturday brunch/lunch. The food was good, if not the best french bistro fare I've had. The service was spotty/slow , even though it wasn't crowded, and the mimosas were a little heavy on the orange & light on the champagne. The burgers were apparently very good, but the salmon on the bagel too warm to be enjoyed. I'd say give it a try and moderate your expectations, and then all will be fine.

This place is amazing. People are nice and caring. There are many types of beers that you can choose. We tried kale salad and onion soup. They were perfect:))

We arrived early for dinner and decided to have a drink at the bar. We ordered our food and were shown to our table. Appetizers were ok but main course was terrible. Jumbo Shrimp were dry and had probably been left under the grill for an age. Their were very few people in the premises but their was an international soccer match on tv and the Barman was asked politely could he turn down the volume as we could not hear each other but instead pointed to a table of six girls who were watching the game who were subsequently not eating and only drinking tap water. We couldn’t wait to finish and get out to an establishment that appreciated our business

Amazing place. They had very nice christmas decorations which took 4 nights to put up (I asked the staff). Everything we tried was tasty. Good service. Friendly staff. Just one recommendation would be to increase salad and appetizer options. We had champaign and prosecco but most of the food were more fitting for a beer instead of champaign. We had buffalo cauliflower it was tasty but didnt really go with champaign.

Great bar busy....hopeless barmen...lovely guys but LAZY and costing whoever owns the place lots of money. They dissappear, dont notice patrons, dont really work that hard. Glad it isnt my investment...if the owner watched how lame they are they would be horrified! Sad when patrons waiting just to get their attention start complaining to each other about the same thing.

This place is beautiful at Christmas! We waited in line for about 30 minutes for them to open and then were seated pretty quick. There was a lot of confusion about reservations. Some people had them and most were told they don’t take reservations (us included) I would say the food was average. The burger was definitely the best thing we got. I would also say the service was very lacking. The lady that took our order was never seen again. We had to ask someone else for more drinks and our check. Coming here for the atmosphere alone is 100% worth it! Just come with some patience and it will be a great experience!

Double check your bill at this place. Because you're likely paying for things you didn't order. That's what happened to us. We had an office party and ended up getting strong armed into paying a bill that was twice what we should have owed. Paying for drinks we didn't order and paying for top shelf when we ordered well. And the owner was totally unsympathetic. We'll never go there again.

Happy hour is always pretty packed. They have two bars, one downstairs, one upstairs. Pretty good selection of craft beer. They also have separate dining areas if you're looking to sit down for dinner (they take reservations on Open Table as well). I've had their burgers, steak frites and most recently the pan seared striped bass. All have been excellent. Pair with a Delirium! On the last visit, we spent some time at the bar before dinner. Jordan, who I think was fairly new was great. Service upstairs was pretty good as well.

Had a great lunch here after walking up 5th AVE from 34th ST. The Christmas decorations inside were over the top - both floors - ceilings and walls covered. Wife had a burger, I had a steak sandwich. Service average. Why they did not get 5 stars: steak sandwich was pretty much bread only - not much steak.

Spent an evening there and very much enjoyed the DJs song selection. The staff was nice but not so friendly. Drinks were not too marked up.

We were there for supper a bit early. The New York steak frites was very good. The Striped sea bass was exceptional. Service was reasonably good and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Conversation was possible - a very good thing indeed. While the two entrees were not over prices, the house wine was.

Food here was great. The steak sandwich was the best. The burgers are good. The chicken Cesar salad was good except the chicken was dry. The service was good.

We had a quick meal here the other night. I would advise people to avoid this establishment. Both the food and service were not great. Not too expensive but at the same time not an enjoyable experience.

They say (whoever they are) that you can't go back and have the same experience at the same place twice. Well, as for our recent visit to Papillion's that position rang very true. The food this time was mediocre and the service almost non-existent. Very disappointing.

Food was good and but a little pricey for lunch. Great Location. Decent service. Beautifully decorated for Christmas. Upstairs dining has a nice window view. Atmosphere put us in the holiday spirit. Enjoyable !!!!

Read reviews on YELP and hesitant to go. We ate upstairs and to my surprise, the food was great!! We had 1/2 dozen raw oysters in August despite not an "R" month and they were amazing with sauce u never had. I ordered scallops which were surprisingly tender and tasty on top of bed of Pole ya and a fab sauce. Others had pork chop (huge) and delicious, Ahi tuna salad and sea bass. Top notch food. Tony our server, was also great!

Food was freezing my mother has a wheat intolerance and they told her everything was gluten free without actually having any clue if it was or not and waiters where gaumless on the whole, all together terrible experience

We had a reservation here for 2 people at 7PM, we had made this reservation 4 weeks in advance. When going to the restaurant the waitress said that there was no available table until 8PM. She said that they had sent me an e-mail about that they had to postpone our reservation. Reason for the postponing was that an ”suprising event” occurred the day when we had our reservation. Checking the e-mail and also trashpost if it accidentally went there but no e-mail about them changing our reservation. Instead a day before our reservation there was an e-mail sent that was just reminding us about our reservation AT 7PM!!!! We were so hungry that we decided to cancel the reservation and go somewhere else to eat…

This restaurant looked beautiful when we visited in December. There were Christmas fairy lights everywhere and a buzzing atmosphere, but we did notice a strange smell. We thought this would be an excellent place to have our final meal before flying home to London. Big Mistake! Two hours after having the fried shrimp on mushroom risotto I was violently sick and this continued every 15 minutes for the next 8 hours. Perhaps the owners of Papillon should to try taking a cab to JFK, checking their bags in, going through airport security and flying back to Heathrow while throwing up every 15 minutes - memorable for all the wrong reasons! I was so ill I was unable to return to work for several days and was still not feeling right for 2 weeks and had to visit the doctor. The response from Papillion was rubbish and after chasing up several times I have given up now and am concentrating on trying to find the correct NY Department to report them to. Shame that such a lovely break with my group of friends was ruined by this awful eatery.

Decor is fantastic. We actually Just came across it as we’re hungry after shopping had no idea what was inside. Our food was really nice I enjoyed. Quite pricey. But typical New York. Staff weren’t that great. Didn’t really communicate or even really smile. And did make a comment about tipping which I think is crass.

Because we were staying at the omni we were close to this pub it became our last stop of the day great food great service loved it

stood by doorway afew minutes, made eye contact with bartender he just stared and walked away..we left

Atmosphere is more toward socializing. Bar and some tables downstairs. Bar on second flood that abuts main dining room. I noticed that the menu had many French style offerings but no full of sauces. Had to have the mussels with fries and absolutely loved the broth. But too salty at the end to devour as a "soup." Mussel with a scoop was perfect. If you love oysters, you will love theirs....pricey, but good.

One of the better business lunch spots in midtown. Consistent excellent French food. Prices reasonable. A bit loud and a bit crowded at.times. otherwise definitely put on your agenda. Pro tip.. grilled tuna sandwich!

This place has an old-style French bistro vibe and looks amazing on the outside but inside is very old and torn from wear and tear and just bordering on qualifying as being labeled a dump. Service was non-existent. I waited forever. You sort of get a sense of how the food is like by the ambiance. The place feels dirty so don't hold your breath on the food. The chair I was sitting on was on the verge of collapsing without any notice. Although I like the dark ambiance, it's really not a nice vibe in here and I couldn't wait to leave. I just had the lunch special which I did not really want to but seems hard to pass off a good deal. The food as expected was quite lackluster. I had my fears coming here as the Google photos for this place looks quite dreary as are the food pictures. I originally wanted to go to Bill's Restaurant down the block which had a packed bar but wanted to avoid the crowd so opt for this as second choice but regret it so much. I think I would have had a more enjoyable lunch at Chipotle.

Came for lunch with a friend and the menu is a good one. Had the burger with housemate fries and really tasty. Prices are decent and well worth visiting. Good atmosphere and service.

We were in NYC for a work event, and due to some mis-communication, needed a reservation quickly for a table of 6+. Searching TripAdvisor, we found Papillon in the categories of "bistros" nearby. Very sad for all. This is a restaurant entirely designed for tourists, and, while it may have a good beer menu, it's wine menu (seemingly important for a French Bistro) was a total joke, and there was literally nothing on the menu that resembled French food. I have no problems with the locals coming here for a beer after work, but otherwise, no one should step foot in this joint.
Bad service
We came in here for drinks and a snack. Initially we were impressed by the decor of the place and were served relatively quickly , however after our first order of drinks the service Nose dived . We order food and drinks but had finished our food before 20mins later the drinks finally arrived . Even then my husband pint wasn't full and we watched as the waitress used a straw to froth the top of the pint! When we asked about it there was no apology . When We paid the bill they did not return with our change . We had to ask three times . We always tip especially when we have had good service but for the price and the lack of apology/ basic service we won't be back
