Always Good

We go to happy hour there about once a month. Good menu, good service and good food. You can eat dinner at the bar which we love. Friendly staff. We like it a lot.

Food was good, atmosphere, meh

We Went here for my birthday. We had reservations and when we arrived the hostess checked us in and then said she would go check on a table, can we wait at the bar. There was no room at the bar so we went back to the front door. She came back and asked for our name again, for the reservation. She said she found us a table, but didn't sound too confident. After seating us, she told us our waitress's name and left. We were seated on a wall that was against the kitchen. It literally sounded like they were constantly moving furniture in there. After about 5 minutes, the hostess came back to our table and asked if we had a reservation so she could check us off. We told her this was the third time she asked us that and gave her our name...again. The noise level in the restaurant was such that we could barely understand what our server would say to us and we had to lean forward just to have any sort of cross-table conversation with each other. The food was very good, except for the perfiterols. They were very hard-I couldn't cut through them with my fork so I wound up stabbing them and biting them that way. While the food was good, the noise and ambiance was not good, so we probably won't go back.

Great spot for a late dinner!

By jenkorba |

We needed a place near the park for a late night meal and were happy to find a reservation available here. It's a great location with several other restaurants around. We were one of the last reservations so the restaurant was already starting to empty out when we got there. We appreciated that our server never made us feel rushed or like they were trying to get out of there (though we WERE the second to last table to leave!) Our service was great, and all parts of our meal were as well. We LOVED the music they were playing - it was French, but contemporary and some was quite jazzy. We kept pulling out Shazam to tag different artists. They had a good wine selection and our entire dining experience was just really, really pleasant.

Exceptional Fine Cuisine and Service!

By Fred M |

The Parc Bistro is truly one of the best restaurants in San Diego. The place is always welcoming in every way. The food was exceptional, and all was delicious and good portioned. The calamari as good as any Italian restaurant. The salmon paillard perfectly prepared and the porcini ravioli fresh and scrumptious. The service was perfect. The wine list is great full of fine French wines at affordable prices. Everything about the Parc Bistro is truly great and I highly recommend and will return soon.

Neighborhood Gem

By canncan |

We went to the Parc Bistro-Brasserie after a matinee at the Old Globe based upon the review it received in the Auto Club magazine, and we were not disappointed. We arrived about 4:30 PM; their happy hour starts at 4, and dinner begins at 5. We enjoyed glasses of wine ( and $7 cocktails!) and shared an order of calamari and truffle fries among the four of us. We chose to sit at the bar tables, but the bar itself is very large and had plenty of seating there as well. There is also outdoor seating on the sidewalk out front. Our waiter, whose name I never got, was delightful and entertaining as well as efficient; the bartender who served out appetizers was also very pleasant. I ordered the duck confit, two had the trout, and one had the salmon. We were all happy with our choices. Unlike a previous reviewer, my duck was not dry; it was served with sliced fingerling potatoes, a mushroom ragout and green beans. The fish dishes also came with green beans, and there was a baguette served for the table. We shared two lemon tarts among the four of us; three of us had espresso and one decaf coffee. The espressos were good, something we measure a restaurant by, and they even offered decaf espresso. The decaf coffee arrived lukewarm and was promptly replaced when brought to the waiter's attention. There is also a prix fixe meal offered each night for $50 for 3 courses. For those of you who are longtime San Diegans, this is the location of the former Croce's restaurant, and the owner also owns Scalini's. We found this to be a warm and welcoming place with very good food. Since we have season tickets, we will undoubtedly be back both for the location and for the food itself.

Thought I was in Paris!

By pennez1 |

A very good restaurant with a variety of choices. I had salmon which was cooked just right and husband had halibut ( slightly overdone). Friends had filet and ahi which they said they enjoyed. Portions are not huge in keeping with the French style. Decor is lovely and you’d really think you were in Paris. Loved the long wood bar and the outside tables. Enjoyed the setting and food immensely.

Disappointing

By tommo_8 |

What a disappointment. The atmosphere is pleasant for a drink and sitting. However the food is quite poor. The beef bourguignon was really terrible- tasted like any old beef stew. Chef needs a refresher course. The beet salad was mediocre, hard to find the goat cheese. The crab also was dominated by seasoning with the result their being no crab taste.

First visit to Parc Bistro

We had a great experienc. Wonderful to see Jerry again (from his prior job location). The Parc has a nice open feeling, with great bar. Food and wine were excellent. We will be back.

San Diego Restaurant Week Jan 2019

Dined there during SDRW for lunch. Nice ambience, good location, scrumptious food and excellent service. Happy Hour menu looks good. Happy hour daily!

Get away from tourist trap Gaslamp area restauraants and DINE here!

By thetraveldoc |

Had dinner here with local discerning "foodie" friends who chose this charming restaurant. What a wonderful surprise. Every dish was great. We enjoyed the fresh oysters and especially the shrimp and fish ceviche. For mains, can highly recommend the branzino fish, duck and the shrimp on linguine. The latter was garlicky and so tasty. Very good wine choices by the glass or bottle. Service was professional, attentive and friendly. I rarely give out 5 stars; this restaurant deserves it for quality food and service at a reasonable price. I will definitely go back next visit to San Diego.

Rehearsal Dinner

By Laurie D |

I wish I knew how to give a half of a circle - I would give them a 4.5 circles! We had the pleasure of dining at The Parc last night. We were guests at a rehearsal dinner with about 80 guests. This was the first time they hosted an event of this size and they did an amazing job!! They have a private room (which we were in) that can be closed off with glass doors w lightweight curtains (so you don't feel closed in). There was also a bathroom right there so you didn't have to go out into the main dining room. The staff made sure everyone had a beverage as we waited for the wedding party to arrive. The menu selection covered everything you could want. The ceviche was one of the best I've had in a long time. The roasted salmon was cooked perfectly. The chocolate mousse was the richest and smoothest I've had. I was impressed by both the attentiveness of the staff and the food itself. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

excellent French food

By Lynnbrownstone |

I love the food options in the menu, some of which are not easily available in other restaurants. The food tastes great.

Nice neighborhood restaurant.

By C C |

The Parc is a mid sized French restaurant, the wait staff were friendly and attentive. We were there on a Wednesday and it wasn't too busy. As you enter the bar area is first thing you see, comfortably set up. The bar menu is better than most place, with better dining foods. Their menu offered nightly specials, Wednesday is acrispy skin oven roasted Chicken breast. That sounded goo So I ordered that only to have the waiter come back and say it was sold out. They offer a dinner size Steak Tartare so I had that, my friend had the lamb chops. Both were very good. The next Wednesday we went back and the owner said the chicken dish was not up to par so I had some thing else. Can't remember what now but it was good. The owner said if I wanted to cime again for the chicken it would be on the house. The next Saturday we went because the special was Lobster Thermidor, It was excellent. We missed one week and then went back for the chicken which was good and free. When we go we do the happy hour for drinks and appetizers. I especially like the Escargot, very good with lots of garlic. I would recommend trying this restaurant when in town. Need to be able to choose more selections below. Like friends and couples ect.

Authentic French Brasserie in the heart of Bankers Hill, San Diego!

By ChrissyFitzy |

Fabulous French restaurant that will take you to Paris for the night! I fell in love with French Brasseries long before I made my first trip to Paris. Yet my love for classic French food and the casual elegance of Parisian Brasseries grew stronger as I visited Paris for the summer a couple of years back! Hot nights in Paris with my best friends dining on steak tartare and Provencal rose will always bring back wonderful memories for me. This restaurant will take you to Paris for the night with their authentic French food, French owners, as well as several French staff members. With everything from a full raw bar, steak frites, Coq Au Vin, Steak tartare, French onion soup and more you will not have trouble finding something incredible to eat! Parc also has an excellent wine list including both old and new world wines! Friendly, staff, wonderful patio (dog friendly) and warm and seductive ambiance! C'est magnifique!

Cozy neighborhood eatery

By Lisa B |

Ate here last night with a small group from the neighborhood. The restaurant was busy and we had to wait 15 minutes for our table (despite a reservation), and were then seated in a booth. Our server was harried and it took a while for menus and water, but when our food finally did arrive, it was fine, if unimaginative. Among us, we had Caesar salad, beet salad, French onion soup, a seafood platter, fried calamari, and mushroom ravioli (the only vegetarian entree on the menu). Since they had a mushroom ragout on the menu accompanying another dish, I asked that it be substituted for the usual tarragon cream sauce and I was obliged. I also asked for a side of puréed cauliflower, which was perhaps the most innovative item sampled. All in all, this is a nice little place, though not very vegetarian-friendly.

Restaurant Week

By Brads P |

I came here with my wife during San Diego restaurant week. I was impressed they had a generous menu and only serve the special RW menu during this event. They also have an impressive list of wines and craft beers, we opted for the later. We both had a very nice crab cake followed by an excellent steak, which were perfectly cooked. I also opted for the lobster which was amazing. The dessert was very good and we will definitely be back. The service was perfect and the ambience was French cool and it was easy to find street parking.

Friendly ambiance and eclectic French Brasserie style venue.

Little Paris in Bankers Hill.

By Jim T |

Once you pass the sidewalk linen cloth tables and enter their front door, you feel like you’ve just landed in France. A long cozy dimly lit bar to mingle or have a sumptuous meal. Their beef borgungnion , mussels and steak fritte are all authentic and well presented. The wine list is extensive and they recommend excellent wines. The white clad wait staff are friendly and very attentive. Garo, the veteran restaurateur could easily raise his prices, but he doesn’t. They have wonderful monthly wine dinners with winery reps and owners there. Great bang for the buck!

A short ride from the heart of downtown for an outstanding meal

By herb12345 |

Great food. Lovely atmosphere. Outstanding service. Fish, duck and beef dishes were all exceptional…good sized portions with excellent preparations served with generous vegetable sides. Terrific cocktails and nice wine selection.

Consistently good food

By Rui S |

The menu is French and offers some uncommon dishes. We were delighted with the plate of mussels and fries and the onion soup. We have been pleased with the food and personal service every single time we went.

Fantastic solo dinner with amazingly fresh superb French cuisine

By living villain |

I wanted to try this place out for awhile and finally decided to go out to treat myself to a nice quiet dinner on a Friday night. Parking is available and very easy to find, which helped as well as the ability to make an online reservation. I was lucky enough to have Izzy as my server and she was absolutely fantastic! I sampled the tuna tartare, which was delicious, and the trout almondine. Izzy selected a wonderful Pinot Grigio for me which paired very well with my meal. She was so attentive and made sure I was happy with everything. The fresh bread and garlic spread so tasty, I was glad I tried it. Highly recommend if you want to give your tastebuds a special treat and relax in a very soothing atmosphere. Decor and ambiance are all so well done I felt as though I was back in Paris. Thank you for a wonderful, much needed evening of relaxation, a perfect meal and superior service.

Gift Card

By vagabondginger |

I won a $50 gift card at a charity event so brought a friend here for lunch to celebrate her 80th birthday. Usually I am quite budget conscious and seek out happy hours so having the gift card made it possible for me to treat her to something special. This is a stylish French restaurant and we were both immediately impressed. Because it was lunch on a Thursday the place was not busy at all so our server Luis made us feel just as special as the occasion was. We each had a glass of wine and bread was served to go with our French onion soups. My friend was so happy with her salmon sandwich order and I very much enjoyed a delicious wild mushroom ravioli. And kindly a creme brûlée dessert complete with a birthday candle was complimented. Thank you Parc Bistro for a truly lovely lunch.

François? Mais oui!

By CrazFox |

I was thrilled to be able to find a French restaurant within walking distance of my hotel. And they had exactly what foods I hoped they would have. Decided to pass on the escargot as I would never have finished everything and had noone to share it with. I settled on the bouef bourginon (beef burgundy) and soupe a la oignon gratinee (French onion soup). They also provided a board of sliced mini French bread with butter and herbs I also got the apple tarte tatin to go. Everything was presented beautifully and a delight to the tastebuds. Service was done at the appropriate pace. Even though I sat at the bar, they asked would I like my meal with my cocktail or after, which I thought was a nice move. I had some sort of French martini, but I forgot the name. It had lavender in it and was wonderful. I liked the ambience, quiet music.

"Manhattan" style bistro with great Happy Hour

By william h |

Dropped in here after the movies the other day for an early happy hour. The menu was extensive my Martini ($11 - not on happy hour menu) was nearly perfect, and the atmosphere - with a French bartender - was very NYC. My spouse had the beef sliders with French fries and deemed them excellent. I ordered the $8 steamed muscles and could not believe the size of the order - I couldn't eat them all. We will definitely be back!

Strange Service Solid Food

By Fordstaff |

Weird service. We ordered a cheese plate and 2 out of 3 cheeses were incorrect. Luckily someone at the table was not allergic to Goat Cheese because we specifically said NO to Goat Cheese. It was on the cheese plate. My colleague ordered a martini and it took 2 asks to get Olives. The steak tartare was prepared deliciously and so were the main dishes. Just wish the service was better. Solid service makes the experience all that better.

Oh What a Night

By sps |

Took 20 people to teh Parc for a big Birthday celebration. We had a private room and EVERYTHING was perfect! The tables all had cheese and charcuterie oard when we arrived a huge hit the fig jam WOW wonderfu bread and tapenade and al the sausages and cheeses were terrific. People had a choice of their wonderfu onion soup or a salad and then one of four entrees (steak, chicken, fish or the wild mushroom ravioli) everyone loved thier food! The service was fantastic, thanks Jerry and the entire staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating. It is one of our favorite places but this was just more then we could have asked for.

Fine dining oasis

By leonf310 |

If you like fine dining in a relaxed and unpretentious restaurant, this is the place! We were treated to superb, friendly and unpretentious competence by our waiter, Jeff. We had the Wagyu steak tartare, which for this dish, was merely normal. That is to say worth while. We had a dozen oysters which were perfectly shucked and presented. They were Washington State source and sweet. We had wonderful Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre France. If you don’t know this wine, you want to. Plenty of good French bread, etc. We will be back for sure. The rest of the menu looked fantastic

A Wonderful Christmas Dinner!

By BeyondWordsTravels |

Excellent food. A fixed dinner for Christmas Day with 5 choices for each of 3 groups of food plus three extra choices i.e. oysters, escargot, etc. Beautiful setting with music that was just quiet enough to be perfect. Or maybe it was that the musicians were at the front door a good way away from the tables. Whatever, it worked for us! Our waitress was very helpful and efficient. The price was reasonable for a fixed-price special menu. The wine choices and prices were excellent. Like most French restaurants, wine is excellent and fairly priced. Our table had lots of room around it and we never felt crowded. A 5 all around. Highly recommended. Excellent in all categories!

Loved this place!

By Rita23890 |

We had drinks and apps here and really enjoyed the experience. The ambience was restful the staff was fun and attentive and the wine choices very nice and the apps delicious!

What an absolute disaster of a meal at Parc

By veeRob |

Wow, what an absolute disaster of a meal at Parc. Such a disappointment as a 4.5* rating on Yelp typically means amazing food and amazing service. I'll walk you through our tortured night there... Reservation for 6:30pm for myself and my two friends, a couple, for Restaurant Week. We arrive and are seated promptly by the hostess, and then our server comes around shortly thereafter. He seems like a jovial, older man, so I figure we're going to have some great service. It takes a bit of time, but we order our drinks and place our food order. We're catching up and having some friend time, so we're enjoying our drinks. At some point, we realize our drinks are empty and our appetizers haven't arrived, yet. This doesn't seems right, and we hear our waiter apologizing profusely to the table next to us for their delay. Then us. "You're being so nice about this, so sorry about this." Hmmm. We haven't said one thing positive or negative about the wait, but whatever. My friends get another round of drink orders in, but I abstain. We go through two servings of bread, which was great, and my water glass is constantly filled. So some elements of the service were good, but boy, did we want to eat. The appetizers arrive... I got the wagyu carpaccio. A generous portion, but a bit too acidic for me. I didn't love my dish, but I didn't hate it. But I'm excited for the filet mignon I had ordered as a main course. I wish I had the minute by minute break down, but long story short we find ourselves at the two hour mark without getting our main courses. Yes, it was 8:30pm and our main courses haven't arrived. We had been discussing for some time how comically bad the service had become. No manager coming by to explain themselves. No offer of a round of drinks on the hosue. Hell, my friends' second rounds of drinks have gone empty and our waiter hasn't returned to ask them if they want another round. They did, thirty minutes ago. We decide to cut our losses and my friend goes to find the manager to tell him we're out of time and we just want the check at this point. He can't find a manager so he gets the hostess. As he does, our waiter comes out and says our mains are coming out in 2 minutes, which he's essentially been saying for an hour. My friend's request for the check so we can leave is essentially ignored, and our main courses do come out in the next 5-10 minutes. We're hungry, so whatever, we eat. My filet was ok, but not amazing. Too much sauce and not letting the meat shine. The menu mentioned nothing about this. The menu also said it came with french fries, but they decided to give me mashed potatoes instead. I don't particularly like mashed potatoes. They're well aware we're not pleased with how this meal has gone, but still no manager has come over. I'm curious if a 10% off line item is going to appear on our bill or if the drinks will be comped. My buddy thinks we'll get charged for everything, and I'm like naaaaah... They hurry our our desserts, and my tarte tatin is the best part of my meal. That was the only course I actually finished, I think, and I'm not a dessert guy. My friend's creme brulee? It looks as if they didn't even torch it, and the sugar on top is still powedered and not carmelized at all. How is this place a 4.5* restaurant? It's just comically bad. Sure enough, my buddy is right and they bring the full bill over to us. No discounts, all of our drinks are on the bill except a wine refill they hurried out to us the 7th time they said the food will be right out. They probably just forgot to charge us for it rather than comp it. I almost flagged down the waiter to make sure he added it back on just to make a point. We throw two credit cards in the folio, and I write on the check how it should be split. Our waiter is rushing to close out and just splits it evenly which makes no sense. Three people, two cards, common sense would be to ask: "How do you want to split it?" So we need to get that fixed. Nearly three hours later, we make it out of the restaurant just shaking our heads. The waiter blamed the kitchen throughout the meal, which I found really weird. I don't care what causes a catastrophic dining experience, you're all working for the same restaurant. Don't throw other people under the bus, just have a manager come over and addresss it. We tried to get the manager and failed, and if the waiter and hostess are so scared to tell the manager that there's a table that has waited two hours for their main courses and are a bit frustrated, then they have some serious issues. Problems happen in fine dining, it's how it's handled after the fact that define my impression of a restaurant. Go read my review from Hundred Grand to see how it's supposed to be done, and that isn't even fine dining with a higher price tag. This has to bet the msot disappointing dining experience I've ever had in San Diego, and I'm ashamed that I was the one to suggest this spot to my friends.

Very tired of unprofessional management and staff

By LaJolla3160 |

This could be a great neighborhood "hang" except for the very tedious and unprofessional attittude and management of "sam". Someone needs to inform the staff that they are there to serve and create an enjoyable dining experience. We don't come to hear their life story, have the floor swept all around us as we eat our meal or wait 15 minutes to be attended to for a drink. We also don't come to be treated other than professionally, courteously and respectfully.

Recommend by our hotel

By janie g |

Wanted something in walking distance after traveling all day. This was a French restaurant and we loved everything. We sat outdoors on a beautiful evening. We started with huge shrimp cocktails and spicy sauce. The Caesar salad was perfectly anointed with dressing over crisp romaine with croutons and shaved cheese. I had fabulous lamb chops with sautéed spinach and sweet potato au gratin, which was unusual and delicious. The salmon was grilled with mashed potatoes and grilled Brussel sprouts. Perfect size, prepared perfectly. The chocolate praline mousse was perfect for the finish. Ashley our waitress was helpful, friendly and attentive.

Excellent French Cuisine

By David B |

While the ambient noise inside can be a little high, the food is worth it. We arrived at 5:00 for an 8:00 play at the Old Globe. The service was excellent and they were willing to work with us to make sure that we had plenty of time to make the play. The place has only been open a month (as of this writing) and they did an excellent job on both the cock-au-vin and my braised beef. Other than the ambient noise, the wine prices were a bit north of expected. However the corkage fee is only $15 and I will be bringing my own wine when we return. Yes we will be going back as we completely enjoyed our meals.

French bistro

By NancyL525 |

Went with my husband for San Diego restaurant week. We sat outside on the patio, lovely evening in the Bankers Hill area. (We had our dog, Jake with us) We had a lovely beet, pear and goat cheese salad and Salmon riblets. Entree was Mussels and Cog Au Vin. Sorbet for desert. The food was excellent, service was great. Definitely will go back.

A pleasure

By m p |

This is an almost new restaurant near Balboa Park, however everything was running smoothly when we went there. There was a very friendly greeting, our table was ready promptly and the food and service ware excellent. I had the duck confit and the salad frizee both were tasty. My friends were happy with their food. The creme brulee was smooth and disappeared quickly. The prices were reasonable and I gather the aim of the owners is to make this a comfortable hang out for locals.

Good food but not without faults

By tb911 |

Went here on opening night of restaurant week. Did not know it was restaurant week, which is too bad because I normally avoid eating out that week. My mistake. First of fault, they only had the special restaurant week menu; you could not order off of the regular menu. That was a shame because the special menu did not have what I came for, base on reading the website. I suppose they are not alone in not offering the regular menu, but certainly there are restaurants that do. They should rethink this. The place was only 25% full and we where there from 6 PM to 9 PM. It's not like the kitchen was swamped and needed the efficiency of a limited menu. Second fault. They ran out of creme brulee, one of the desserts on the special limited menu. Come on now! It's only the first night of the special menu! And the place is only 25% full! There is no excuse for running out of something under these circumstances. Having a special menu should mean you are prepared to make this stuff all night long for throngs and throngs of people! This is just ridiculous. On the positive side, the corkage fee was only $15 and the food we had tasted really nice. Want to revisit sometime when I can order from the full menu.

Good place

By JimmyJackk |

Nice restaurant located near Balboa Park. Good service prices ok. Had the ahi sandwich and a Bloody Mary and both were good. Definitely would return.

Excellent French fare

By gtt |

Ceviche, lobster, and filet were all very good. One word of caution this is a French restaurant so err on the side of telling them to cook your meat slightly more than you usually would.

Near Balboa Park start with Happy Hour.

By Debi S |

The dishes here are so flavorful and good portions. When we went they had live music and the vibe in the restaurant was really fun. Happy Hour is soooo good! Our server (she, name?) was the Best, Very positive and energetic. We had such a great time and everything was so delicious. Escargot, Oysters, sliders etc. We decided to stay for dinner at an outside table. The large scallops with the giant shrimp entree was something I can’t get out of my mind. Great pasta, Lamb and oh yes the French Onion soup. Wine and cocktails good choices and good prices. Service is on point and fun. You Will not be disappointed

My wife always has the lobster mac & cheese......which we always bring some home. I always have the lobster tacos ( 3 ) and incredible.....also suggest the bison meatballs.

Delicious food, attentive service, nice atmosphere

By Kathleen F |

Being from Maine, I always hesitate before ordering lobster but I'm glad I did. Out of the shell, in a tarragon cream sauce with homemade gnocchi and peas - it was out of this world! My friend's trout was prepared perfectly and our appetizers - artichokes, asparagus goat cheese tarts and assorted crostini were flavorful and beautifully presented. We were coming from the theatre and arrived before they were serving dinner but the staff spoke to the kitchen and arranged to have entrees made for us a little early. Nice touch! If I had a criticism it would be that the staff, though very good, is new and when I asked for the address they didn't know it and had to ask a couple of people to confirm which way the name of the cross street uber was showing was so we could meet our driver.

Romantic dinner

This restaurant was a true find very romantic atmosphere very reasonably priced we had an excellent onion soup my wife had duck confit and I had the Dijon pasta and chicken dish all truly Exquisite excellent service beautiful Ambience definitely will be back 5 stars

Restaurant Week find

By gardengal16 |

We went for Restaurant Week lunch. My husband had steak and frites from the regular menu--beautifully cooked and prepared (no extraneous fat) with thin tasty frites. I had the goat cheese/ arugula/pear salad which was quite small and appeared with slices of beets. There were no beets mentioned on the menu and there was less pear than beets, hmmm. The goat cheese was "bruleed" which meant it was a melted smear on the plate coated thinly with caramelized sugar so it was almost impossible to scrape up and enjoy as part of the salad--too little and not helpful on the bottom. The wild mushroom ravioli were really delicious. Four of them made a perfect lunch size and the plentiful sauce included some small chopped mushrooms--very, very nice. Yes, we would return but ask more questions:) And where's the French bread--good French bread presented when sitting down is one of the reasons for going to a good French restaurant:) The Parc burger would be my next try...

Neighborhood delight

By SelectTraveler |

My wife and I went to the restaurant with another couple for dinner for the first time and were pleasantly surprised. This is a neighborhood restaurant that looks modest from the outside and on the inside. The food and service were excellent. I had the moules et frites (mussels with fries) which were sweet and aromatic bathed in a garlicky white wine broth and served with lots of bread on the side. My wife had the trout which was pan-fried with salt and pepper with olive oil. Despite the simplicity, it was delicious and flaked right off the skin without the chewiness that often indicated overdone fish. The service was excellent -- friendly French! We sat outside on a lovely summer evening and highly recommend snagging an outside table if possible. We will be back.

Oh la la!

By floribel1 |

Our first time at this restaurant.....my husband and our guest were somewhat apprehensive....especially as he lived in the French part of Switzerland for 8 years!! No need to worry, absolutely everyone was thrilled with their meal. The food was authentic, the service surperbe. We were very happy with this new find and we will make the trip down there again!

The Best!!!

This was a total and incredible surprise. We were looking for a place to have lunch at Hillcrest and walked by. And what a surprise!!!! The place is not just beautiful but the service is amazing!!! And the food WOW!!! We were so pleased with their ambiance, menu, waiters, all!!!! Had one of the best lunches in San Diego and for sure it’s now one of our favorites!!! We will for sure come back and will recommend it to everyone!!!! Thank you!!!!

fabulous from start to finish!

By Cassietrip |

My daughter and I dined here for dinner recently. My daughter had the lavender martini, which was subtle, cold and excellent. We started with the burrata, which came with ripe, sweet little tomatoes and balsamic vinegar. It was delicious and a good portion. We also ordered the bread and house-made butter. The bread was a tender, flavorful little baguette and there was a black olive tapenade, which was garlicky and wonderful. The oysters were fresh, plump and delicious. We shared the French onion soup, which had a good, oozy cheese crust and was rich and not too salty. We also had the lamb which was perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked medium rare. So yummy we chewed the bones to get every bit! It was served with broccolini to cut the richness of the meat, and mashed potatoes to soak up the juices. We finished with the creme brûlée, which was perfect - perfectly cooked, perfectly creamy, perfect gentle-milk flavor. Service is professional and friendly. Can't wait to return!

Fabulous French Bistro

By nadiwo |

We went to a new French bistro-brasserue that opened downtown and had a wonderful meal! The decor takes you to France, elegantly casual, the food was delicious! We started with the charcuterie, the cheeses mingled with the seasonal preserves was a perfect marriage. The bread was fresh and crisp, just like a baguette you would find in a Parisian bakery. We ordered the escargot, salmon, mussels and hanger steak.....the plates left the table clean. For dessert we tried the traditional, tarte tarting as well as creme brûlée, as well as something a little different cherry sorbet. All were delicious, the cherry sorbet was my favorite. Can't wait to go back!

Beef medallion was not a beef medallion

By Therese |

Service was very friendly and attentive, except a bit too much hovering. My husband and I are white. Ahi tuna and ceviche were great, onion soup average. The problem: The beef medallions were some kind of cheap meat cut which was treated with meat tenderizer…it was pillowy, stringy, and had tendons…..with a price tag of $ 40! What a cheap trick to use for a restaurant that seems to advertise itself as classy. Will not be back because of this deception. .

Best French restaurant in San Diego

By L M |

Parc Bistro never fails to impress with its consistently amazing food and great service. Every visit reaffirms why it's a favorite spot of mine. The Beouf Bourguignon is a standout, rich and tender, while the French Onion Soup is a comforting delight. To complement these dishes, the Lavender Martini is a perfect choice - beautifully balanced and refreshing. The staff at Parc Bistro are attentive and friendly, adding to the inviting atmosphere that makes it ideal for both casual meals and special occasions. Parc Bistro truly delivers an exceptional dining experience that keeps me coming back for more.

Real French, real tasty

By Anne G |

My mom and I visited this lovely place just because we happen to pass it on our way back. In my youth, We visited France quite a bit as a family so we know a little about the French kitchen. As soon as we stepped in we got greeted by our waitress (I forgot her name, sorry!) and sat down by the window. The menu is quite big with lots of options. We fakours of our dishes were extremely well balanced and done in a real French way. The waitress was very friendly and both my mom and I can say we truly enjoyed our lunch at this place. Highly recommend it!

Not an Alternative to Mister A's

By LaVerne D |

Visited 3 days after the official opening. Miguel, our server, was phenomenal. Two of my friends were chefs visiting from Los Angeles and they felt the same as I. We began with cocktails and several appetizers. The beet salad was great and the rest not impressive. Also not impressive was the owner who visited all tables it appeared, except ours. We were left wondering why as he glanced at us on the way out without one word. I hope they find their way before the grand opening. As it stands now it definitely isn't an alternative to the fabulous Mister A's.

Fine French Food in Spanish San Diego!

By Wendy and Albie N |

We dined at Parc on our first night in San Diego, having arrived for a scientific convention. The menu and our chosen food was excellent; the selected lesser-priced wine was still very good. The decor is lovely and comfortable. There seemed to be lots of locals coming in, which is always a good sign. Nice street side dining, inside bar area plus a quieter dining area at the rear of the restaurant where we sat. The service was very French, attentive and friendly.

GOOD FRENCH FOOD IN A GOOD LOCATION

By Cary L |

I'm not exactly a francophile, but I like French cuisine one in a while, especially the kind of dishes found in bistro or brasserie type restaurants, and also in a fairly casual setting. This restaurant provides all of that -- classic bistro dishes like moules frites and coq au vin, plus some interesting seafood choices. Also inventive cocktails and a nice wine list. And a waiter who was actually helpful without being obsequious. All at reasonable prices. Plus, it's located in Banker's Hill, close to Balboa Park, away from the crowds of downtown or La Jolla. My only gripe is that they close a bit early, even on a weekend night.

Nice restaurant, very good food

By nancy m |

I've eaten at the Parc Bistro twice. We live in the neighborhood and enjoy the ability to walk a couple of blocks to dine. We sat in the outside dining the first time and order appetizers and wine. The sweetbreads and the beet salad were very enjoyable. The crispy ricotta blossom salad was so-so. On our second visit we were seated inside. Our table of five was served by Jerry. Wonderful server, good sense of humor but not in the way of our dining experience. We order filet mignon (excellent) and sea bass (excellent). A very enjoyable dinner. Several nice wines by the glass are offered.

Consistently wonderful

By Sa-i44 |

Great food. Great ambience. Great bar selection. Great servers. Oh, and did I say great food? I've been here for lunch and dinner many times and the food is consistently great.

Busy Happy Hour

By Carol W |

Three of us went to Happy Hour at Parc Bistro. We were very lucky to find close parking. We ordered cocktails, which were tasty but quite weak. The bread and butter cost $5 for 8 slices. One of us ordered the crab cakes (dinner menu) and had to send them back—they were spicy but were not described as spicy on the menu. The mussels were OK; I think there were 8 for $15. The best dish was the poutine ($15). The place is very pleasant, and there were quite a few servers dressed in French bistro outfits. Our server was a bit frantic in her movements and forgot things—we had to ask twice for a spoon for the mussels/sauce. This was a very busy Happy Hour, with all available HH seats taken by the time we left.

Delicious

Creative and delicious fare - inside and side-walk seating and thank God you can actually hear your fellow diners talk :-)

A taste of France in San Diego

By kjzrsz |

We loved the food, the ambiance, the service and everything about this delightful new restaurant. We sat outside on the patio on a lovely warm evening. It was perfect for a pre theater Balboa Park dinner. We had a great dinner and then a short 7 minute walk to Balboa Park. We highly recommend this restaurant and for sure, we will return.

Dissappointed

By Stull1941@gmail.com |

This restaurant was not busy the night we dinned there. I had steak frites and my wife had a chicken dish. The meal was Luke warm when it was served. The thin French fries were basically cold. The veggies were undercooked. Service was a little slow since we were two of no more than 6 people dining. Nice looking restaurant.

Truly France in San Diego

By ETKGD |

This new restaurant is a delight, truly a French dining experience. The food is French, excellent, priced right, terrific service and nice decor. If you want a real European (French) night out this is the place. The waiters are experienced, knowledgeable and attentive but not overbearing. There is a special for each night of the week and all are great but the Saturday Lobster is really special. Go & Enjoy. ET&GDK

Well prepared French Food

By Bond R |

Went with a good frend and we had the octopus Carpaccio with hearts of palm, capers, lemon, then the Lobster Aracini which is a fried version with Lobster and spicy aioli and finally the Duck breast and Leg confit and French onion soup. All food was well prepared, ate outside on a lovely night. Service was only a bit off since they had a big wine dinner. Will be back on Tuesday date night.

Excellent French Restaurant

By Ottissmithjr |

My wife and had a wonderful experience at Parc. Wait staff was excellent and so was the food. I had French onion and it was perfect as was my filet mignon cooked to my liking. My wife had the scallops with mushrook ms and appetizer of escargot. Everything was very good.

Really Great Birthday Lunch for Mom

By Jennifer H |

I am going to give this place 5 stars as I am giving businesses the benefit of the doubt during Covid times. I decided to try Parc after seeing the response by manager, Sam, to a crazy woman who ripped the restaurant quite unfairly. I loved her response and have been trying to support local businesses during the pandemic so I thought I would give Parc a try. The menu also looked amazing so I took my mom to Parc for her birthday lunch. The food was absolutely fantastic. My mom has lost over 40 pounds and wanted to have a nice meal but still try to stay on her diet, if possible. We had the shrimp cocktail for an appetizer (VERY fresh and delicious) and we both went on the light side for the entree and got the Seafood Cobb Salad. This salad was AMAZING. I tried mine with a vinaigrette instead of the tarragon dressing (just a personal preference) and it was SOOO good. We were able to have a wonderful meal and still stay on my mom's diet. Even though we ate light this time, I would like to go back and try everything on the menu - this is my kind of food. My only minor complaint was our outdoor seating. Parc took over the patio next to the restaurant for extra outside seating and we were seated in this area...even though no one was sitting at the much nicer tables that belong to the restaurant. I had made reservations ahead of time so I was surprised we were put in this other, not as nice area. There was loud construction and I felt like we were sitting on the street. A motorcycle literally pulled up next to us. I also felt the table behind us was way too close for social distancing. I should have spoken up and asked to be moved...that is my fault. I am sure they would have been accommodating. Again, I want to give the benefit of the doubt right now because I know things are not like they usually are. I did walk through the restaurant to take some pictures and go to the restaurant and it is quite lovely. I would love to come back here in the evening - it would be gorgeous. I will DEFINITELY go back to Parc (especially when I am not on a diet) as there are a number of dishes I am excited to try.

Unexpected Find!

By Sofia v |

We had dinner and sat outdoors. Very pleasant atmosphere. We all ordered different, salmon, mushroom ravioli, filet mignon and short ribs in a wine sauce. Everything was very good. We were quite disappointed with the beet salad. For $14 it was an extremely small portion. It tasted ok but the portion was ridiculous. Don’t expect huge portion for the entrees but they were sufficient and more importantly very tasty. We were all quite satisfied and will go back.

Good Sunday Brunch

By myrevue |

Looking for a new place for Sunday brunch, our party heard good comments about Parc Bistro. We have eaten here three times now and each have been positive, though not perfect, experiences. The daily soup is served piping hot, as a good soup should be. The shrimp cocktail is quite satisfying. The strawberry waffle was what one hopes: not gooey from undercooking nor overcooked into toughness. The eggs Benedict used quality Canadian bacon, though the sauce seemed rather bland. It is with the crepes that robbed the restaurant of a fifth star. One visit the crepes were very, very good, with a lightness of the crepes and a rich flavor. Another visit, though, the crepes were of lesser quality. Our experience is that the more crowded the restaurant, the lesser experience. Nevertheless, we have enjoyed this restaurant overall and will be back more times.

Authentic French Bistro with Ambiance

By THOMAS B |

Took my wife to Mother's Day brunch and really enjoyed the vibe, French owner and wait staff, and authentic French cuisine. We will definitely return for a Saturday night dinner

Great Brunch!

By Knabebug |

What a great brunch spot! French cuisine with some American influence! Food and service were excellent. Portions were huge. The bottomless mimosas are great. Our nephew said it was the best crepe her ever ate! Despite being busy, we were never rushed to leave. We will definitely come back some time when in town.

Lunch and dinner

By krempl13 |

Just walking past on our first evening in the area. The service was good, and the food delicious. Took friends for lunch a few days later...equally good.

Fantastic French

By Rnamok |

The decor is lovely and comfortable. Nice bar area plus a quieter dining area at the rear of the restaurant. Food was beautiful and delicious. Great salad and starters. The Branzino with garlic, tomatoes and olives was cooked to perfection. The service was very attentive and friendly. We shared the apple tart with ice cream and it was wonderful!

Excellent food, good service

By notravelsurprises |

Enjoyed dinner here with a party of 7 business friends. The menu offered a good selection, and all of us enjoyed our meals. Noise level was reasonable, so we could hold a conversation. Service was prompt, friendly, and efficient. Would enjoy eating here again.

COVID19-Relief Wine Tasting 2021

By PtLomafoodie |

PARC BISTRO hosted the FRANK FAMILY VINEYARDS (Napa Valley, California) on 11/10/2021, and my husband and I were very thankful ! Great AMBIANCE, SERVICE, FOOD & WINE pairing was served. Everything was excellent! I think the photos of the food and wine speak for themselves. Frank Family Vineyards was begun with the help of the famed ROMBAUER Winery of Napa, California. The Chardonnay has that expected buttery, oaky taste that represents the Napa region. Every wine offered by Frank Family at the wine tasting was delicious. The sparkling brut Rosé was a surprise!

Excellent food & service!!!

By thegoofrules |

Great food in a nice atmosphere. Excellent service. Highly recommend. French onion soup and filet ere delicious. Service was attentive and polite. Just two of us for a late night dinner, but I would bring back a group and my young kids without hesitation.

Wonderful Experience

By Butterflygal13 |

Quiche and French Onion Soup excellent! Wonderful attentive staff. Ambiance lovely nice selection for wines as well as other beverages. I dine out quite a bit this is on the top of my list to return asap.

Pre-theater dinner

By Pete_B_SD |

My wife and I stopped in here early on a Sunday for dinner before theater at the Old Globe (which is a 20-min stroll away). The restaurant is much bigger inside than we thought, and there were plenty of tables. The wait staff were attentive but not pushy, the food was excellent - I had the beef bourguignon, and my wife had the ravioli. Both were really tasty and well prepared. All round, a lovely dinner out - we'll be back.

Love this place!!!!

By C. Landa V. |

This was a finding for us. We were walking and got in for lunch and what a surprise!!! Since that day we always go back while in San Diego. Yesterday we had an amazing dinner with the best service ever. The ravioli were delicious!!!! They have a great bar and amazing selection of wines.

Like Dining in New York City!

By rtyler |

We began with a generous happy hour inside and then moved to the sidewalk where we felt like we were dining in the Upper West Side of NYC. The wait staff is dressed in classic black and white and are very attentive. Dinner was very gourmet and the portions were nicely sized. I would, however, skip the profiterols for dessert.

Dinner

By Judy W |

Smallish restaurant in the Middletown area of San Diego. Recommended by hotel staff as a good place for dinner. Rainy evening so not much parking as valet was full. Did not have a reservation so had a drink at the bar while waiting. Food was good portion and quite good. Would highly recommend the French Onion Soup. Friendly efficient staff. Owner greeting patrons. Smart casual dress.

Traditional French Food

By Renée B |

Lovely place for pre-theater (Old Globe) meal. Enjoyed brunch before matinee and dinner before evening performance. Savor the richness of the broth in French onion soup, crepes, and wild mushroom ravioli. Delicious spinach, I know, a vegetable that is mouth watering.Yes.

Friends after a concert

By Burnie D |

We met our best friends for a happy hour menu and drinks. The bar was busy so we sat outside by the sidewalk but still were able to order from the "happy hour" menu. 5th Ave. was busy and at times noisy but it was still pleasant. My wife and I shared 6 very good oysters. My wife shared a roasted vegetable platter from the main menu and she said it was good. I had 3 small but very tasty lobster tacos. We shared a good cheese platter. I had a very good Manhattan. Enjoyable and we will return.

Poor Service

By JD1946 |

We have been coming to Parc Bistro for a couple of years. Last night was the poorest service we have ever experienced. Numerous wait staff - but they spent most of their time standing around and talking to each other - we had to wave our arms and hands to get their attention! Food was ok - but my Escargot was simply not good - very chewy and no flavor. Not a good experience.

Fabulous French Bistro!

By lbvbgal |

Our first visit to this restaurant and we were not disapointed! We had Escargo and the special; Branzino with olives, capers & tomatoes with broccolini and they were fantastic! The service was top-notch (Alena) and the menu was so appetizing, it was hard to decide! We will definitely be back to try more menu items!

WILL NOT RETURN

By Diane C |

We had a birthday dinner for 8 people. Several people ordered the duck which was dry, and inedible and had no flavor. Others had the steak which also had no flavor. It took 40 minutes to place our order and that was because we had to chase down our waiter to order. He didn't appear again until we chased him down for the bill. Water service was poor, the dinners came out at different times. The Onion soup was good but just warm. I have been there a couple of other times and it is always, just warm. One diner ordered a salad that never came. We had brought in pies for the birthday people and had to chase down the waiter to clear up our dishes which sat for 20 minutes to get the pie cut and brought out. The waiter "Mike" was the worst waiter because he could never be found and didn't ever come by to see if we needed more or anything. We could not get our drinks re-ordered or tea or water filled.

Veganish at an oh la la French restaurant

By culture groupie |

We are vegan at home 100% but when you go out, lordy it is sometimes a hard sell to most who eat the standard Amer. diet. We went with a crowd who would never "go vegan". I asked the waiter if chef could prepare me a vegan dish and he came up with a beautifully seasoned plate of lentils, mushrooms and carrots and the most beautiful array of dark green fresh green beans. And before main I had fresh tomato soup and a beet salad. Everyone was empresses and we still felt like we were eating at the same table. This chef can handle any curveball!

First time and there will be many more

By Robert H |

My wife and I had brunch prior to a matinee at the Olde Globe. The lavendar martini was excellent as were the crab eggs benedict and the omelet. The service was excellent and decor reminds you of Paris. A rare find. Dinner is next. Oh, and with drinks it was less than eating at California Pizza Kitchen for dinner. The place is a screaming bargain

Exceptional Morning After Wedding Brunch

By Donna S |

The morning after our daughters wedding we hosted a buffet brunch for 40 guests at the Parc. This was a destination wedding so we were nervous about our venues. Helen worked with us on building a menu that not only worked with our budget, but presented a wonderful meal. We were able to arrive early and arrange florals and the staff went above and beyond in helping us. As guests arrived they were greeted by staff and ordered drinks. Helen and the manager continued to check with me through out the entire event ensuring everything was okay. They replenished the food and continued checking with every seated guest for refills etc. In addition the food was amazing!! We had pastries, gorgeous fruit, two kinds of quiches, potatoes, waffles (OMG) and salad w chicken. Also a mimosa bar. I can’t say thank you enough to the Parc for such an amazing experience. I was able to enjoy our guests, thank them for traveling, say goodbye to them because I knew they had a great meal with exceptional service. Thank you Helen and the Parc!!

Real brasserie menu and ambiance, and attentive service

By Catherine W |

We came with a friend and all had the daily special duck a lorange on the advice of the French waiter. It was delicious and a substantial serving so we were glad we had not sampled the starters! The waiter recommended a granache Syrah blend that went beautifully with the citrus and richness of the duck. The mini tarts tatin with ice cream was a perfect light ending to the meal. The restaurant is near balboa park and we had a lovely postprandial stroll. And it doesn't break the bank!

Authentic, Classy, Affordable

By Tanya |

This review is for our first impression, and will be updated when we go back for a full meal. We stopped by last night for a glass of wine, and were treated like royalty. The French host greeted us in French (my husband and I were speaking French as we walked up), and the warm welcome was followed by all staff members. The wine by the glass list is full of excellent, international options at VERY reasonable prices, and generous pours. My husband had a glass of Vermentino from Corsica, and I had a lovely Rose from Provence. The new restaurant is nice and open, with an expanded patio area and bar seating right inside with views to the outside. The menu looked fairly authentic for San Diego, and prices for food are very reasonable as well. Looking forward to a meal very soon!

Refined but casual French cuisine

By Luvingmywine |

First visit here was in August when we sat out side and enjoyed al fresco dining. Second visit was this month and we opted to sit inside. Food here is wonderful. Highly recommend the burrata salad and wagyu steak tartare … my mouth is am watering just thinking about the meal!

A Delicious Walk on the Parc

By Sagres96 |

Four of us wanted to try a new location for lunch so we drove 35 miles to find a delightful bistro. We each had a different meal. I had the Steak Frites, my wife had the Short Ribs Sandwich. The other guests tried the Mussels and Frites and the croque monsieur. All I heard during the meal was yummy sounds emanating from each of us. Added to the pleasure of the lunch was our waiter who's quick wit and humor only enhanced the day. A review of both the brunch and dinner menus made sure of wanting to return. A must try when you're in area of the world famous Balboa Park.

So disappointing!

By laura s |

I really wanted to like this place but my visit on Valentine's Day was disappointing. The appetizer salad was boring and over dressed. My 1/2 duck was incredibly dry and served with fries thrown haphazardly on the plate. I like fries but expected something a little more refined from this place, especially given the price. My wife's trout almondine tasted fine, but was a bit over sauced. The lava cake was the best bite taste-wise of the meal, but it was cold. I may be wrong, but lava cake is supposed to be warm, no? All in all, a lackluster experience and not a place I would revisit soon.

The Best French Cuisine in San Diego

By William A |

We had lunch there today and I told the owner it was better than excellent. Very French atmosphere and menu, mostly French waiters and maitre d'. Freshly made carrot soup was followed by a croque monsieur. Dining friends had quiche Lorraine, and both were as good as it gets. This place is a must!

Not Quite Perfect

By saint5 |

Great atmosphere, large menu selection, attentive servers, cocktail prices high, had to ask for the appropriate silver ware when served oyster plater and Escargots. First time I have had onion soup w/ Bay Leafs. Would go back

Everything Great Except the Waiter

By Dr.G |

We generally always have a great experience at Parc Bistro. Last night, however, was a bit off. Food was outstanding as usual. It was the service that fell short. Either our waiter was stretched thin or he just wasn’t having a good night. In any event, we really had the feeling that we were a major inconvenience for him. This one experience won’t stop us from coming back, but we may request a different waiter next time.

Dinner with Friends !

An off night?

By AndySanDiego |

Parc Bistro has long been a favorite for special occasions or to take friends for French food. Last night, the food wasn't up to their usual standards. The Seared Ahi Tuna was tough and overcooked. Their 18-hour braised Boeuf Bourguignon had the texture of having been braised too long and leaned toward becoming mushy. Our server, Jeff, was attentive initially, but as the meal progressed, he became less so. Once the entrée dishes had been cleared away, he passed by our table 4 times before stopping to ask if we wanted dessert. Overall, it was not the stellar dining experience we have had numerous times.

Excellent Happy Hour, Do not Miss

By Luis L |

Came here with my wife for Happy Hour!. The selection of food, appetizers, wine is excellent, plus you cannot ignore the $1 Oysters, very fresh and good quality. In addition, there is a wide selection of French traditional food on the menu. I had the Duck Confit, and a Beet salad that were excellent. Try the Hamburger on the happy hour menu, as it is a good choice. I love French food, so having this place in town is a great addition. Cheers!

lovely place

By Carol W |

We had been to this restaurant recently and had the steak, which was very tender. This time it was tough. The spinach is excellent and so are the fries. We also had the salade nicoise. The ahi tuna was delicious, and so was the salad dressing. The green beans were uncooked. The lettuce was a bit rough. There were too few potatoes and olives. As always, the bread, butter, and tapenade were very good, and free of charge. The service was OK. I was not offered ground pepper, as other diners with salads were. This was a birthday, so we received a lovely complimentary chocolate vanilla ice cream.

Promising but with glitches

By LindaC2O |

We did our family Thanksgiving dinner here. The food was good....but all arrived lukewarm (which might have been because it was a holiday so perhaps busier than normal). My husband ordered the steak frites well done - it arrived rare (not even medium rare but really rare) and his fries were cold. They took both back to the kitchen but the fries never returned. One son’s salmon was not fully cooked, the other had the Brassaria (fish) that was lukewarm. I had traditional turkey, also mostly lukewarm. That said, the bread stuffing was probably the best I’ve eaten. It came with decent green beans, mashed potatoes, a piece of sweet potato (that was pleasantly hot) and a generous amount of turkey. Dessert included an excellent creme brûlée and an apple tart that was rather dry, helped by the generous serving of ice cream (not mentioned on the menu or by the waiter but apparently included). Two of us had the chocolate ganache which was more than a half cup of pure chocolate (like a candy bar) with a little barely whipped cream, a raspberry and two blueberries. Pretty uninspired and way too much to eat the whole thing. Staff was good — especially Sam, the bar manager who took over at the end of the evending. I suspect this place might be better on a regular day. The room arrangement allows them to create private dining spaces and I appreciated that we were in an alcove that meant we could hear each other and have conversation easily.

Food Good, service not very enthusiastic!

By PhilFields |

Went for happy hour and dinner on a Saturday night. Food was excellent, mussels and wine was good and food was hot and white wine cold. Bartender seemed to care less if he was there and overall the place seemed tired for such a new place. Lamb was under cooked. There was a large dog on patio, jumping around, not so great for dinner at this price. Cheers.

Best find in San Diego

By Franz K |

This place took us by surprise on every level in a very positive way. Great seating outside, attentive service, delicious handcrafted and innovative cocktails, decent wine list with moderate prices and really really good food. The Steak Tartare was one of the best I ever had outside of France. We certainly will be back next time we are in San Diego!

Parc Bistro, been going there for five years for lunch

By penguin619 |

I have never had a bad experience at this establishment. The food is excellent, the service is attentive and the wine list is extensive with good selections which are reasonably priced. I usually choose to sit inside but the outdoor area is also pleasant.

Good food, quirky service staff, fabulous musical entertainment!

By Lorraine M |

We really enjoyed our visit to Parc Bistro-Brasserie. We shared a baby green salad. My husband ordered the Petite Filet and I ordered the Rack of Lamb. Both were cooked beautifully. However, we are used to having left-overs to take home and these portion sizes were perfect for just the one meal. But we were on vacation, so there was no need for extra food. The waiters were quite friendly and liked to joke with the patrons. We had the feeling that the clientele were mostly locals. A surprising treat was a two man combo, who played throughout. The male singer did an admiral impression of Michael Buble'. The audience applauded and several couples even got up to dance! It was a fun party atmosphere.

Good old people food

By Foodiefoodog |

Admittedly I only had a glass of wine and two entrées. However what I had was very bland. Quality of the food was average. I ordered the lamb chops that were ordered medium rare and came medium to medium well. The Demi glaze was bland they were supposed to be crusted with some spice but I could not taste it or see it. I also had the chicken I think it was baked. It was also extremely bland. The high point was the bread that was very good but nothing special.

Excellent

By Mays00n |

Excellent food in a nice quiet place , good service we had a nice time , i surely recommend it to celebrate special occasions

Great Food Close to Balboa Park

By Travelnan8 |

What a gem! We were in San Diego for the Shakespeare Festival in Balboa Park, where it's impossible to find a place to park. Some clever promoter stuck a flyer for Parc Bistro-Brasserie in our ticket envelope and offered Uber back and forth from the restaurant to the theater. Took a chance and had an absolutely wonderful Sunday brunch. Starting with the bottomless mimosas through to a dessert menu we couldn't possibly indulge in, our meal and service were top notch. Hubby ordered steak/frites and enjoyed every morsel. I had a turkey/brie sandwich on an incredibly fresh baguette, with some of the best fries I've ever eaten! Our friends said the fried chicken waffle brought back happy memories. We'd make reservations again in a heartbeat! FYI...there is plenty of free parking (no meters) on Sunday around the restaurant. Even if the restaurant doesn't offer free Uber into the park, have brunch here anyway! Well worth taking Uber/Lyft into the park and enjoying the no-hassle option of parking!

Rude hostess wanted to "hide" us since apparently we're not white enough.

By Jorge G |

Had reservation, the girl sat us behind waiters stations when 80% of the tables are empty. We left. If you are Latino or brown stay away from this place.

Charming restaurant with basically three separate areas.

By MaryLS |

One can dine alfresco on the sidewalk, in the dining room or at the bar. Happy hour applies only to food ordered at the bar. Excellent staff. Quick to resolve any food issues.

Over Rated and Too Pretentious - NO ATTENTION TO DETAIL!

By Gail B |

he food was close to inedible - Caesar salad had so much garlic I reeked for 3 days after eating it. Trout amandine was awash in at least 1/3 inch garlic butter (huh?) and the almonds were soggy. The other fish was smothered in too much paprika and served atop undercooked risotto! Service was irritatingly cheerful and incompetent and the ambiance might might have been OK had they not been blaring a football game so loud we couldn't hear each other speak.

Complimentary bread and birthday dessert. Attractive bar. Street parking. Nice restrooms.

By Don'tWaitForRetirement |

I've been to this restaurant 3 times over the years, which is saying a lot, because I rarely frequent 'fancy special-occasion downtown restaurants' more than once. We came to celebrate a birthday lunch. The vegetable dish that I ordered was absolutely delicious. They were also kind enough to bring complimentary bread with butter and tapenade as well as a meringue birthday dessert. Service was decent, although not overly bubbly/personable. Prices are fairly standard for today, but a little too pricey. (i.e. Lunch menu slice of quiche with baby salad greens, $25, Feb 2024). The bar towards the front of the restaurant is attractive. The restrooms were stylish and clean, even my MIL commented on them. One downside is the street parking, either metered or free if you can find it. Please click the 'thumbs-up' if you found this review useful.

Portions were small, food was over cooked and bartender ignored us.

By Lisa-Anne F |

This is an uneventful restaurant. The atmosphere is very cute and upscale but the food is unremarkable and the service was bad. We were completely ignored by the bartender even though we were the only two people sitting at the bar. The menu descriptions sounded tastier than the food turned out to be. I wouldn't return for the food. It might have a fun bar scene but it was a weeknight when we went so it was very quiet. It has a very long, large bar with lots of standing room in front of it for people to stand around and talk with drinks. I wouldn't go out of my way to return. It wasn't bad, it just was so-so and not worth spending my money there.

brunch

enjoyed the croque monseiur (add an egg or two) and it's a croque madame large enough to share with a salad or fries. brunch has bottomless mimosas. service is very good and we were not rushed.

Parc Bistro-Brasserie Good but Not Extraordinary

By No B |

Everything was pretty average being about what one would get in an inexpensive bistro in Paris, except for the fine dining atmosphere which Parc Bistro-Brasserie affects. Service was quite good, prompt, and professional. Our entrees included duck confit, boeff bourginone, trout and moules. All were solid, but not particularly exciting. The moules were overcooked and rubbery unlike moules served at other bistros nearby. The room was pleasant and set up for fine dining. It was a bit loud to the extent conversation was impeded, but unfortunately that is all too common these days. They dim the lights a bit too much as the night progressed. I never chose to go there again but would go if invited by friends, however there are several better bistro choices from 5 to 15 minutes away. Parking is sometimes problematic in this area.

Never a Disappointment!!

I so LOVE this Restaurant and am so glad it's back open since the Covid closure!! Sam and her amazing team haven't missed a beat with their amazing service, connection with our group and attention to details!! Jen was so great greeting us and getting our crazy orders taken as we are a picky bunch and never seem able to just order straight off the menu. Sam checked on us several times to ensure we were taken care of and always grabs plates out of our way and fills our drinks. She's not your typical manager who just stands around who and expects her staff to do everything- her sleeves are pushed up! SUCH a great team- they work like clockwork. And OF COURSE the brunch was DELISH!!

Wonderful dinner

Absolutely wonderful careful unpretentious but professional service in this charming bistro. Everything wonderful. Especially tartare and moules frites. Nice wines by the glass. Spontaneous stop turned into best break in San Diego. Highly recommend. Will return.

Great Weekend Bruch Spot!

By Michael M |

My partner and I have been to Parc Bistro for Sunday brunch twice now and both times were fantastic. Our server (Nick) and the general manager (Sam) are wonderful, extremely friendly and add to the great experience at Parc! Their Chicken & Waffles are just delicious...that bacon cream is the perfect addition to this dish. We've also had their moods Moules Frites, which are really good as well. I ordered the Niçoise salad our second time there, as I that is one of my favorite salads, and it did not disappoint. They give a generous amount of seared Ahi - very fresh and delicious! One of the best parts of Parc Bistro is seeing the same faces of regulars that dine there. It's definitely a great gem in the neighborhood and a wonderful place to regularly dine at. Oh, they have brunch on Saturdays and Sundays! Can't wait to go back for brunch and bottomless mimosas (or champagne)!
