What I imagine a Paris bistro would be

By Pete W |

Squeaked in on a whim for Sunday lunch. They had no room (note to self - get a reservation ) and then after a brief wait we got a lovely corner table. Excellent hot food with good service considering the crowd. Superb people watching vantage. Great pomme frittes & mussels in white wine. Going back in June.

A perfect evening

By CaptainLee |

We had an excellent evening at Pastis. Stephen Starr restaurants never disappoint! All with varying themes, menus, and ambiance. This is an authentic take on a Parisian bistro. The food was excellent, as was the service, which was warm and authentic. Highlights were the fried artichoke starter, served with a delicious aioli. Duck confit was perfect......the sticky toffee pudding dessert was excellent.....oh, the bread and butter were great too. The place was packed, on what was otherwise a quiet night in the Meatpacking district.

Dinner for two

By Marianna A |

Dinner for two, unfortunately we didn't book. They made us sit in front of the back door from which the waiters kept coming out. Sin. Decent food, above average for New York. The evening was warm, relaxed and enjoyable, shame about the service.

Some Amazing French Dishes

By JaWestPalmBeach |

TravelDad.World took our client here and he was delighted with the drinks and food. The atmosphere is a Parisian Brasserie, with identical chairs, table, and decor. The escargot, the fish, the traditional French cuisine - absolutely superb. TravelDad.World will definitely recommend this place to our clients in the future.

Amazing!

By CastleA |

Amazing. From start to finish we enjoyed every minute here, Food was delicious. Especially the French onion soup and the filet steak. Wine was lovely too. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. We visited for a treat meal and were not disappointed. Definitely worth a visit. Make sure you book!

A Happy Foodie

By Najeebah |

A tasty French restaurant where they don't hate you for being a customer? lol. Wow. I never thought this pleasant energy was possible. This is my new go-to for a filling lunch/dinner that my wallet loves.

Much taste

By Larissa F |

We went near lunch, we didn't get a table on the balcony but we had a great meal, the chicken sandwich is well served can meet 2 people, but the duck confit was very good!!

Terrible Experience This Time (Mice All Over the Outside Are)

By Radina A |

I used to love Pastis before COVID so I was very excited to go back again for the first time since the pandemic this past Friday. However, it is nothing like it was. The whole outside patio (where our table was) was infested by literally tens (if not hundreds) of tiny mice. Four of us paid $500 for dinner and we had mice everywhere under and around our table, so we literally had to keep our feet up so as to not have them crawl up our feet. That is unacceptable anywhere, but especially at a place like Pastis. I brought friends from Texas and I was embarrassed to have chosen the place because it's nothing like what it was.

Cool and trendy atmosphere

By lau_voyage |

Great atmosphere, great neighborhood and very good cocktails. It is a good place to quietly sip a drink at the bar dt chat with the super nice waitress

Awesome All Around

By Ryan H |

Awesome place! I ordered the hamburger. It was exceptional and came with a heap of fries. Drinks are delicious. Ambiance great. Service is on point!

Our go-to for brunch whenever we are in NYC

By GradingMachine |

This restaurant is just so terrific from the hospitable hosts to the servers to the delicious food. Pierre and Dane were our delightful servers this past weekend when my wife enjoyed the Eggs Benedict, and I had the Gruyere omelette. The pain au chocolate was to-die-for. We're returning for dinner in April. Reservations are a must--a testament to how good and popular this dining establishment is.

Great restaurant with outdoor seating!

By Lunallena81 |

Very tasty chicken sandwich, friendly staff and fast service. The portion was very large and could easily be shared between two people.😃

Delicious French food

By Carlos M |

Excellent French food, I loved the onion soup and the orange duck. Very good atmosphere and excellent attention and service from the waiter. I would only recommend improving the service at the reception.

One of my NY favourites

By Liz W |

This place deserves recognition. Been there a few times and they are consistently good. Their steak frite is perfect.

Almost great

By Gail M |

This would have got five. However sitting in a doorway draft with my newspaper blowing all directions when door opened every 5 seconds not endearing. Loads of empty tables. Then forgotten, maybe Ageist? Asked to be moved, but a conference needed. Finally 10 minutes when I moved myself, a flurry. "This table could be booked!" Etc. Told them I would walk if moved. Eventually waiter brought a menu, looking miffed. But decided to stick it out. Ordered Gruyere Omelette and side dish of Garlic Sauteed Spinach, with a Chocolate Mousse (for old time's sake, when my famous husband still lived). Not disappointed. Fabulous. A test of a good Chef, particularly the Omelette. Both my husband and I made Omelettes. Mine, eggs separated. Husband, beaten together. Couldn't fault this, or the Mousse. Smiles are free. Having read Bourdain's book, anything can happen if you upset front of house. Still, I tipped well. Yes, would return as Omelette was a memory. But plant myself well out of a draft.

By jbad11 |

Perfect date night spot. The service was incredible, a great menu with plenty of choice. Food was outstanding. Simple classics done REALLY well! We visited on a Saturday night over Christmas, made reservations for 9pm which was a great time - really busy with a buzzy atmosphere.

One of the best place in NYC

By Kamil Sebti |

This place became one of my favorite restaurants in not much time. The service is perfect, the waiters are nice and pleasant.

Lively and fun joint

By Alf13 |

Situated very close to our hotel at the end of the high line. We walked in from a quiet street into a buzzing restaurant. Great atmosphere and food. Nothing more to add but would certainly return.

Awesome place in Meat Packing District

By ED G |

Pastis was a true delight. Friends recommended I try it and the food was wonderful. Great service from Nick as well.

Good food but extremely noisy environment

By Ellpett |

We noticed this stylish restaurant when exploring Chelsea market and made a reservation to come back for dinner. As others have noted, this restaurant is EXTREMELY loud and not conducive to an intimate dinner. The walls are tiled/mirrored throughout so the sound really bounces. However, overall, we had a good meal here. My steak tartare was, however, slightly under seasoned and a bit gloppy. Note that, as with everywhere in New York, portion sizes are extremely large and most dishes could easily be split between two diners. Brunch on the terrace looked excellent - and would solve the noise problem!

Chic, casual dining in Meatpacking District

By seanworc |

Pastis is a chic, casual French bistro. It serves the classic French bistro food. Menu items as French omelette with salad and steak frites. Service is professional. This place is part of the Steven Starr dining empire. Original Pastis concept is from Keith McNally, the Brit turned New Yorker restaurant owner. Lovely choice if in the area.

Excellent quality. Great service

By Thomas Albrecht |

I had the pleasure of eating at Pastis for the third time and it was once again an outstanding experience! This restaurant in the heart of the Meatpacking District impresses me every time. The ambience is both stylish and cosy, giving the feeling of sitting in a charming Parisian bistro. The service is always attentive, friendly and courteous, making the visit a special experience every time. The menu offers a wonderful selection of French classics prepared with fresh ingredients and great attention to detail. Of particular note is the perfectly fried steak fries. I highly recommend the pastis. Whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner, this restaurant offers fantastic cuisine and an unforgettable ambience at any time of the day. I am already looking forward to my next visit!

Eat Here

By Matt N. |

AWESOME French Bistro with one of the best burgers in the world. Always full of people, always great.

Am I in France yet?

By Chowderhead |

With Keith McNally, the hits just keep coming - which is to say, if you can't get into Balthazar (likely), try Pastis (somewhat easier to get a res). Sooo French, so vibrant, so good. We had a party of six, and all had an amazing meal and time. The waitstaff was worth every cent of our 25% tip; Christine, the somm, knows her list - we stuck to Loire wines, a region well represented in their cellar. The vibe was lively, and the volume was high, but what better way to energize and enliven a party? Honestly, the over commercialized and be-here-now Meatpacking District leaves me cold, but once you step inside Pastis you are in Paris. And how cool was it that the maƮtre d' pulled me aside to ask where I got my seersucker suit?

Superb breakfast

By swallis |

I’ll keep this simple. I always review whether good or bad, in this case….Great quality of breakfast, location wonderful, building beautiful, staff service excellent.

Don’t order the sardines

By mrana321 |

Pastis has a great vibe and their service is fabulous. The food as expected is just regular fare - really nothing to write home about. I ordered 2 appetisers for my meal. The artichokes were 3 limp halves of artichoke hearts - not really anything memorable. The sardines on the other hand were a shocker. They were served straight in the can! Yes seriously the chef opened a can of sardines placed them at an angle on an oval plate and served them with bread on the side. I thought they had made a mistake!!! The server insisted that they were really very special sardines. I have to say in all my years I have never seen something this ridiculous!!

worth dropping by

By Tasha J |

I had a business conference in the city last year and i went here after a friend's recommendation and I must say that I loved my experience with Pastis. I enjoyed the lobster cooked in butter, french onion soup and their profiteroles. I would definitely go back.

Lunch after a visit to the Whitney

By Mason Burger |

Delicious Lunch. Beet salad was perfect. Friday is Bouillabaisse day. Monkfish, red snapper, shrimp, Branzino and mussels in a delicious classic broth with rounds of crisp baguette with aioli. Couldn’t have been better. Profiteroles were excellent too. The house rose and RhĆ“ne wine by the glass were well chosen. Server was knowledgeable and congenial.

Never again

By Thomas B |

We stepped in for lunch with a group of six. The waiter was not friendly at all and was not hiding his dissatisfaction when we ordered what for him probably seemed not (expensive) enough. We're from Belgium and we're quite familiar with French cuisine. We must say, for us this was a disappointment.

awesome place for Sunday brunch!

By Ron T |

Had a WONDERFUL Sunday brunch here with our daughter. We had reservations for noon, and were promptly seated upon arrival. Each of us had drinks. Our entrees: eggs, potatoes, bacon/sausage, toast, buttermilk pancakes with a side of bacon and a chocolate croissant (they brought in error the bakery assortment - tried to tell the person delivering it but he left too quickly). Service and food outstanding!

Superb!

By Sarah |

What a lovely restaurant, food was excellent, staff were great and the ambience was perfect for a Christmas lunch break whilst out wandering around NYC

Beautiful Restaurant

By Clif S |

Our family ate Christmas Eve brunch here and it was spectacular. First, the place is beautiful and it was exquisitely decorated for Christmas. Second, the service was professional and well paced. We felt well taken care of but not rushed. Third, the food was excellent. I had the eggs Benedict—as good as I have ever had. Eggs cooked perfectly over French ham. My son had the croque monsieur and loved it. My wife had eggs and bacon and it was fine. In the meat packing district near the Whitney which is a great neighborhood. Subway station .25 miles away. We will definitely return.

A favorite never miss

By Leisure traveler |

Just from top to bottom, left to right, always a pleasure coming here. The food is always on point, flavorful and delicious. Prompt and friendly service. Wine service from Irene is always courteous, professional and personal. I can’t wait to go back.

do not go here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By takethecannoli |

do not go here! soooo over rated. food is sub par. the owner obviously has taken too many shot to the head as a former boxer. there are so many better places to go as opposed to this dump. try balaboosta nearby. much much much much better

Pastis is back & better than ever

By Joseph A |

When my husband and I lived in the city, we went to Pastis all the time. And then they closed but now they’re back. And what better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day the lunch at Pastis. We shared the salmon tartare. I had to get the croque madame while my husband got seafood bouillabaisse. The flavors were a wonderful and so fresh. We also shared the Bahama Rum cake and Toffee cake and both were amazing. Overall glad they’re back and we’re definitely coming back.

A Taste Of Culinary Paris In NYC.

By Conny Wylie |

Pastis, in the Meat Packing District, is a highly popular (even celebs) NY restaurant serving traditional French food fare. On the decor side, Pastis embraces a radius zinc bar, is outfitted with subway tiles, vintage mirrors, Mosaic tiled floors, sprawling amber banquettes, painted tin ceiling, frosted globe lighting that all contribute to the depth of the convivial mood. On the culinary side, the menu displays a repository of fine Parisian items such as: Trout Amandine, Grilled Branzino, Veal Escalope and more. From the menu, I put together, the Onion Soup (a knockout), Beef Bourguignon (another knockout), and to grease my sweet tooth, Creme Brulee (so flavorful). On the drinks side, the Aperitivo Bar serves up Fuzzy cocktails, (I loved the St. Germain spritz) as well as high end wines. A taste of culinary Paris in NYC.

Great Interior and vibe

By Martin S |

We were visiting the High Line and ended up in Pastis looking for a coffee. We sat at the bar and soon abandoned the idea of a coffee in favour of a Mimosa and cocktails. Lovely interior, great vibe, apologies to the bar tender who looked after us as I don’t recall your name. A New Yorker who was great to chat to. Sit at the bar, it’s perfect for lunch and drinks.

Very cool brunch spot

By AR090 |

Yummy brunch & cocktails in a gorgeous setting & area. Quite expensive for what you get but we still enjoyed it!

Go for the onion soup!

By Supitravelz |

Delicious food! I had the onion soup beforehand. Definitely recommended on cold days. Full of flavour! And a nice layer of cheese. Then the steak and fries. Delicious crispy fries! Service was also super nice. You weren't rushed like at other NYC restaurants. You just had time to enjoy a meal with friends.

A little pricy but the food was so good

By TMC159 |

Dropped in after touring the art museum. Thursday special was lobster risotto and it was filled with lobster and probably the finest we ever had anywhere. Onion soup was good not great and expensive. Nice ambiance

When in NY, dine here!

By GradingMachine |

My wife and I have never been disappointed here--either for brunch, lunch, or dinner. The ambiance is always festive, the service is great (shout out to Ziva), and the food and drink are perennially divine. I love the fine herbs omelette; my wife cannot get enough of the Eggs Benedict. My wife enjoyed a Bloody Mary with Grey Goose; I enjoyed the St. German Spritz.

Great place, great food.

By Eugene R |

The place was packed when we arrived, so had a couple of beers at the bar before a table came free (fair enough, tells you they must be getting a lot right). In short, very lively and noisy (in a good way) and the food was wonderful. Would definitely return (nb: might not be the place you'd go if you're looking for a quiet romantic dinner for 2, but if you're looking for a place to go to meet mates for a few bevvies, a catch-up, a few laughs and some great food, this is the place).

Amazing Brunch

By Jaime G |

Amazing brunch , great atmosphere , great food and great staff. i love this place it was amazing and we had a great time . you should definitely go here for brunch wow

AWFUL

By A M |

This was one of the worst experiences in NYC. Not only was the food awful. There was a roach in my soup.

Lovely brunch / lunch

By lipschick |

Very good lunch, glad they could seat us at this mega busy establishment! Great location at the end of The High Line, or start if you are walking the other way I guess. We enjoyed some tasty beverages, and then a Croque Monsieur sandwich, which she declared was lovely. A chicken sandwich, which must have been good as the big lad finished it without even breathing. And I had a steak sandwich which was very good. Not a cheap lunch, but lets face it where is in NYC? Service was good - not excellent - but to be fair, they were absolutely hammered, and they did well considering. Certainly a place we'd like to return to

Slightly high bill

By Lucie |

Excellent cappuccino. Pastry okay but not very crispy for French people. Looks like Italian food. Overall a bit expensive.

Mother’s Day brunch

By claudia v |

Fabulous, Pastis is trendy, exceedingly busy, and yet your experience here does not suffer one bit. From the moment you arrive the hostess is welcoming, the ambiance and the staff are impeccable and attentive to every detail! I have had my share of regretful experiences in so called ā€œtrendyā€restaurants in NY. Also the atmosphere is chill and cool but the staff knows what they’re doing and what they’re talking about, and you can tell that making the customers happy is their main priority. Food is very good, tried some French classics and was delightfully surprised and for their prices it’s 100% worth it…and despite being full capacity on the first sunny Spring NY day we had the most delectable experience! I shall cherish this Mother’s Day brunch! I can’t wait to return with my husband to dine here! Thank You!

Best burger eveer ! great onion soup!

By Melissa R |

Service is fast and delicious! Great ambiance and we looove the burger !! Everytime im in NYC I“ll definitely try and grab lunch or dinner, service and food are always good

Great restaurant… period

By NYC_Geezer |

This restaurant has been a classic since it was located around the corner from the current location. This restaurant needs no reviews but for those who just landed from Mars here it goes. The food here is amazing. Sitting outside on a beautiful sunny day is wonderful. You can bring your friend, bring your dog, bring your friends dog and enjoy the food and the wonderful service. You do need to make a reservation or plan ahead because it does get busy. It is a very popular restaurant. So when you are in the meatpacking district, make sure you stop here for a drink or a meal, but plan ahead because the place does get busy. Be bold, don’t be a peasant, and order a Pastis, and don’t be shy to ask how to enjoy the wonderful French drink.

It was just okay . . .

By rover28 |

Brunch menu was a little uninspired. Service was pushy and then really slow. Others seem to like it, so perhaps just an off day/moment for us.

1# in NYC is back!

By Petter Lundgtren |

Thanks a lot for a fantastic dinner in Meatpacking, last night before closing down Manhattan! This was a in many ways a special night in shadow of corona. For us the best dinner ever in NYC! Pastis is back and will very soon be number one ranked. A broad brasserie menu, with for us a perfect mixt of cold entree's like oysters, tuna and a fantastic tartare and meat an fish and everything was so well done... new Pastis is a top restaurant in global competition. Thanks Mikel for the service and to do a memorable night for us ā¤ļøšŸ¾šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡øšŸ‡øšŸ‡ŖšŸ„‚

Disappointed

By PINAR |

The white wine sauce of mussel was good but because of the sand and small stones we could not eat them. I was disappointed also with the creme brulee and profiterol. There is too much noise in the Restaurant and service is poor.

Solid food, customer service not so much.

By rbe1023 |

Came solo without a reservation. They were able to seat me with a caveat that I’d have to vacate the table in 45 minutes. I usually don’t linger but part of that should also depend on how fast their kitchen works. The food was good and consistent— onion soup, escargot and the sardine conserva — but the customer service left me with a bad taste. I told the waiter of my time constraint and he said, it didn’t matter once I’m seated. It was an odd experience; it would have been okay if they just said they couldn’t accommodate me.

Great American bistro in a French style

By paulFr30 |

Pastis is a American restaurant in the style of a French bistro. It was very busy when we visited for lunch which is testimony to the service provided. We enjoyed the lobster risotto which was slightly al dente. The beef bourguignon was fine except that the pieces of beef on the surface had somewhat dried out, which slightly detracted from the appeal of the dish. Unfortunately the cote du Rhone was so cold as to curtail its aromas. Desserts were excellent, especially I liked the addition of chocolate shards to decorate an otherwise classic French mousse. If we can get a table, we would certainly like to eat at Pastis again.

A classic

By Paula M |

Massive restaurant and the same can attack with good care. Recommended onion soup, right wine list

French perfection

By Robert B |

This place is simply amazing. Everything we ordered was delicious. The steak sandwich is simply perfect and is a large enough portion to split if you aren’t supper hungry. Caleb was the bartender who waited on us and he really made our evening perfect. We will definitely try to find him next time we come by. All in all this place is a gem.

Mediocre Food, Terrible Service

By 302monikaw |

I went to Pastis first time after they reopened and it was bad. Mediocre food - at best - and the service was terrible. After ordering the waiter succeeded to ignore me for the rest of the time. No second glass of wine, no how is your food,.. I had to get up and ask the host for an order of espresso and the check. If it weren’t so overpriced- even for NYC - it would be funny… It is also quite amusing that they claim to be French/ European inspired. Being European and living close to France I can assure you, it is not.

Above Expectations

By Stephanie P |

We went here for a friend's birthday and I must say it was above my expectations. The server, I forget his name I am so sorry, knew everything about the menu and truly cared about our likes and dislikes. There was an app that one of my friends did not like and he immediately replaced it and did not even charge us for any of the apps. Real good service.

Loved our experience!

By Thepik |

A friend recommended this restaurant, and boy, were we glad they did! We made reservations and when we got there, we knew we were in for a treat. They immediately seated us, and the service was top-notch. We tried the Steak Frites and the Chicken Kiev (which was the daily special), and both dishes were absolutely delicious. The drinks and dessert were also on point. It was a bit pricey, but it was totally worth it.

Loud....so loud....so very very loud.

By crunch6 |

Ask for a table in the back, if possible, when making your reservation. I got the roast chicken and it was delicious.

Paris is a bit too far right now. Pastis will more than suffice!!

By bigeater101 |

My husband and I enjoyed a fabulous dinner at Pastis. We sat outside and were entertained as we were perfectly situated for great people watching. Our appetizers of escargots and crispy artichoke were phenomenal and very reminiscent of meals in Paris. An incredible side of cauliflower accompanied our meals of trout almondine and spaghetti bolognese which were all excellent! Our cabs were our dessert since we were too full for any more food. This restaurant deserves high praise!

Great place for brunch!

By 94corduroy |

Packed for brunch not on so good! Great vibe and the brunch options are awesome. Service was good and so was the Benedict!

It's all-around terrific - the best of France in New York

By Sybil S |

Pastis has been one of our favorite restaurants since it opened. The atmosphere feels authentically French. It's got a fun vibe, and the food is sensational. It's always tough to decide which dishes to have as they're all terrific. Last night we had the Friday special, the best bouillabaisse imaginable, and the duck confit. The place was filled, yet the service was impeccable and friendly, from the hostess making sure we'd be comfortable (it was raining out so she suggested we eat indoors, rather than outside) to the waiter, who was delightful and being asked by Nicole, who introduced herself as the Service Manager, how things went. If I could give it more stars, I would. It's the place I always suggest to out of town friends and where I'd be happy to eat every night.

An Amazing French Bistro in beautiful New York City

By valmcc |

When our NYC mother-daughter adventure brought us to the Meatpacking District for a museum visit, we decided to enjoy a late lunch/early dinner at Pastis. I had dined at Pastis more than a decade ago, but wasn’t sure what to expect since they had moved locations. I had nothing to fear! Pastis NYC is as marvelous as I remembered. The ambiance transports you from the moment you arrive (it’s hard to believe it’s not the original!). The food is delicious and comforting, and the service is exceptional. In our case, Brock was our excellent, down-to-earth, and friendly server. He provided us with great recommendations and pleasantly paced our meal. Overall, he ensured we had an incredible dining experience. Thank you, Pastis (and Brock!), for giving us a genuine and YUMMY NYC memory!

Great French Food in Chelsea! Superb atmosphere and service- typical French bistro style food. The entire food experience is outstanding and well worth a visit: recommended

Great ambience. Wonderful staff. Brunch food so good. Arrived early and the staff were so welcoming. Always loved Pastis - used to come here often- so glad they reopened. Did not feel rushed.

A bit crowded but overall a great experience. Had the plat du jour of classic duck a la orange, great choice. The drinks were less than expected. Why is it so hard to find a proper Old Fashioned in this town!

Service - outstanding. I did not have a reservation, but they were accomodating. They even charged my phone while I dined in their coat check. Our server was equally pleasant and accomodating. Food - my food was delicious, hot, and timely. Atmosphere - cute and charming! I will definitely return!

A Taste of Paris

By OnTheRoad27 |

As we walked to the Whitney Museum, we noticed Pastis en route and decided to have brunch there if the timing after our museum visit was right. SO glad it was! This place is extremely popular for very good reasons. I recommend making reservations, especially for brunch. We were super-lucky that we were able to be seated at mid-day with only a 40 minute wait. As we waited, we overheard the parties who came after us being told they'd have an hour wait. I do hope they stayed, because Pastis is worth it. (And they are VERY good at estimating wait times. We were seated exactly when they'd said we would be.) The brunch menu goes well beyond the usual nothing-but-egg-based dishes you find at so many other places. They offer excellent drinks, both creative and generous. My husband's shrimp cocktail appetizer was beautiful. This being a bistro-style restaurant, I started with onion soup and they nailed it! Definitely a Parisian vibe. It's understandably crowded, but even so, we never felt like sardines, which has happened to us at other trendy places. It's also understandably noisy, what with all the other diners, but not intrusively so, nor to the level where you can't enjoy your own conversation. All praise to the waitstaff for smooth, attentive service! Pastis, c'est si bon.

Mediocrity at its best

By Gastrolove |

We ordered the burger with french fries, salmon , trout with toasted almonds and peas, pappardelle with rabbit ragu and the steak tartare. The salmon was nice as was the steak tartare . The trout was indifferent as was the burger. French fries precooked fast food quality. My daughter who ordered the pappardelle asked for grated cheese because none was brought alongside her dish. She had to wait for over ten minutes and she had to ask our waiter again. Worst of all at some point water started dripping from the ceiling on my daughters head and shoulder. We told the waiter and he brought a broom with a towel wrapped to the end and started sweeping the ceiling above our heads and table with our drinks and food on top. The service generally was very low standard. Would not go there again unless they restore their quality of food and service.

Best burger in nyc!

By sarah d |

Best burger in NYC! This place has become an institution and it does not disappoint! The burger + a dirty martini is the perfect way to cap off your day.

Service is important.

By Sebastian P |

Terrible experience. Rude staff from the manager to the people receiveng you at the door. Disrespectfully refering to our party as ā€œ foreigners who have nothing to do hereā€ .

Vibing french bistro in the heart of Meatpacking district

By KMIED |

Great interior, outstanding vibe, good food. For anyone craving bistro style french cuisine, it's the place to go. I missed going to Baltazar so can't compare but I did go to la Grande Boucherie attracted by their amount of good reviews but when you look closer they seem all fake (made from brand new profiles) and it was indeed really bad. Pastis has all the right ingredients for a great night out. I personaly really enjoyed their tajine, but to be honest everything we ordered was really good.

Very hospitable

By Peter S |

Booked an early dinner for 4pm via Resy only to find out they were still on their lunch menu. Said we'd finish our wine, settle up and move on. Manager was very nice and gave us the drinks for free. We'll be back thanks to their hospitality.

Faboulous

By William M |

Star ratings tell the story. Pastis is hugely popular, exceedingly busy, and yet your dining experience here does not suffer one bit. From the ambiance, to the staff, to the food you walk out of another costly meal in Manhattan without regrets. Like many of you I have had my share of regretful experiences in restaurants. Rest assured Pastis will not be one of them.

Wonderful experience

By gogigi2014 |

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch with our family complimented by our server, Jason, who was excellent. We started with cocktails, boiled shrimp, and escargot. We ordered everything from filet, salmon, spaghetti, chicken, and seafood to dessert and coffee. I would highly recommend this outstanding restaurant!

Just OK

By Benhur05 |

We dined here recently and found the restaurant to be just OK. We ordered the sardine entree and thought it was a bit odd to just bring out the sardines still in a tin, with some bread and butter, they charged us $20 for this ? We then followed up with the Branzino and the veal. These were well cooked but quite expensive. Wait staff was very good. Wouldn't rush to eat here.

Hip, busy and good food

By Mark A |

We were lucky to grab the last free table on a busy Thursday evening. What a hip, buzzy place in a very hip neighborhood! The loud level is high, the crowd fashionable and the food well prepared! Would return anytime!!

Fun ambiance, good food, staff only ok

By Jenny from Santa Cruz |

I went to a dinner here with colleagues and had a nice dinner. It was more expensive than I would have preferred on my own. The ambiance and decor were quite charming. The food was good. The staff was a mixed bag. I felt like they were mostly attentive, stopped by often enough. One of the servers genuinely put his thumb in our mashed potatoes and didn't apologize or acknowledge it. For our waiter, I was also disappointed when I asked for a description of a dessert, and the dessert was absolutely not as described.

Not good enough

By anita |

Because it was located diagonally across from our hotel, it was an easy choice for the first evening. I had oysters that were very small and not great in taste. The house wine is again expensive and of poor quality, which is now a trend in the US. You can buy these wines from us at Aldi for 3 to 4 euros.

Classic - you need to visit

By Miss Bambi |

Enjoyed a lovely lunch at Pastis - all of us had the moules frites which is very tasty. For drinks we had a nice Sancerre. Chocolate mousse and coffee for dessert. Lovely atmosphere, service and great food. A must when visiting New York

Colin, our waiter, is such a professional that we're going back only when he's on duty! That good. Food was expertly prepared and presented, though the coffee was not hot - minor annoyance that would have been addressed immediately if we asked. Make a reservation because they fill up.

Noisy & Crowded; Good Food

By Gailyn63 |

This is a very crowded, noisy place, so make reservations if you want to eat here, especially on the weekend. All entrees were great; we had the mussels, the tuna crisp and steak. The wine list is pricey; we had 15 ounces of the house Chablis, which, while good, was $66. Service was good.

Not as excellent as it should be for the price

By GradingMachine |

My wife and I have eaten here every time we've come to NYC. This is the first time that we tried to do dinner. Maybe that's the problem. Yes, the food is delicious, but the restaurant is SO crowded. My wife's mashed potatoes ($11) arrived cold. The server (Jacqueline) did address this, but she was a little snarky. There were six of us at a table near the door to the kitchen, and it was a thoroughfare. For these prices, everything should be excellent.

A classic

By DKS44 |

A new favorite. When we visit NYC we have been going to Balthazar, now we can add Pastis to the list. Run by the same group they have a professional staff that is first rate. The food was wonderful. We started with some of the best oysters we have had, Then onion soup we all enjoyed. The steak tartare could have been seasoned better but was still enjoyable. The steak sandwich were a lot of food. The fries were terrific and the Mac and cheese was a perfect side to the meal. Needless to say we didn’t have room desert.

Same Pastis. Same Good Food. Consistent and good service. Have to get the burger. Suggest sitting outside. Service was noting special.

Sit at the Bar!!!

By lori_and_maxwell |

I am a tired teacher seeking a good meal and great company. I found it at the bar at Pastis today! Seated at the bar, I had a lovely lobster salad and a cup of coffee. The staff, although busy, were attentive and polite. My bar neighbors left me alone. Perfect....

Dissapointing

By Curiosity08217422174 |

We knew the place from years back. New experience was very dissapointing. We ordered salade nicoise and got canned tuna and mayo on it. OK for lower rated restaurants but not for the one they claim to be. There were problems with a recepit and ended up paying three times. Im still sorting it out with my bank. Never again.

Contemporary French in NYC

By Tony E |

Pastis is a French bistro located in Manhattan's meatpacking district opened by Keith McNally. The location is close to the High Line and Whitney Museums. Executive Chef Pascal Le Seac'h prepares a menu that combines hearty ProvenƧal dishes with moderately-priced bistro fare. This is definitely elevated contemporary French fare. The bar serves a range of house cocktails and a reasonable variety of wine. The team are warm, friendly and engaging. Pastis is a must visit and dine when in New York City.

A Bit of France in NYC

By MaryAnne O |

A lovely restaurant with a bit of French flair in the meatpacking district of New York City. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and brunch on weekend. The decor is lovely with Tile floors and mirrors. Both booth and table seating is available. I ate lunch here and it was delicious. The mussels were so plentiful and served with frites. Service was superb and they attend to your every need. We were not rushed which made for an enjoyable afternoon. They have a varied menu with everything from cheeses and Hors d’Oeuvres to salads and sandwiches and of course the main entrees. Prices were typical for New York. An enjoyable afternoon.

Good for the atmosphere.. not for the food

By Stefano E |

Nice spot, good vibes, French brasserie style. Typical French bistrot cuisine choices. Quality very deceiving .. steak frites .. looked good but meat was poor and overcooked. Terrible value for money for the food ..

Good Hamburger in Meatpacking

By dandyp07 |

I've been in this restaurant many times. The Hamburger is one of the best. The place is a bit touristic in a beautiful place (Meatpacking District).

Parisian Cafe

Beautiful atmosphere! Outstanding breakfast! Such a Parisian cafe vibe (even down to the music). Eggs were PERFECTION! We will definitely be back!

Pastis is classic New York

Atmospheric brunch near high line

By LMM93 |

Checked out of hotel and last to do on our list was nyc high line walk before heading home to U.K. and wanting a bite to eat before heading to airport. We struck lucky with finding this place midday-ish on the Saturday before new year - a few minutes walk from end of high line. We were a party of 6 and hadn’t booked - but suggest probably it is best to do so. I think we were very lucky to be squeezed onto a table but very appreciative. It was very full by time we left. Loved it for brunch - a fitting end to our time in New York. Bustling, chic and casual , great engaging staff and tasty brunch foods from pancakes maple syrup and bacon avocado dishes, savoury crepes and omelettes all sampled on our table. Lots of other tables with cocktails though we didn’t as we had long day ahead. Waiter very attentive and couldn’t have felt more welcomed.

Great Food Fun Vibe

By kaj2600 |

We had a brunch there on a Saturday in February and it was PACKED!!! We chose to eat on the "heated" patio. The food was delicious. The service good and the venue great! Highly recommend!

Perfect for Birthday lunch

By John D |

Took my wife here on visit to New York last week and had an excellent meal. Wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable. The Onion soup was delicious as was the omlette. The tuna appetizer was one of the best i have has in a long time. Trout Almandine was thick and moist with delicious fresh green beans. Excellent desserts as well. In Meat packing district and similar to Le Diplomat in DC and Balthazar in NYC.

DATE NIGHT!

By tms215 |

What a find. Beautiful, unpretentious, romantic setting. The food is outstanding, service is on point, and a huge wine list to choose from. It is quiet and comfortable. This is a destination restaurant for that someone special

New Location. Busy. Loud. Friendly. WONDERFUL!! PASTIS IS BACK!

By Fisher327 |

Pastis, has reopened in a new, colorful, well designed location in the meat packing district a couple of blocks from the river. When a restaurant with the grand success of the old Pastis closes for a few months then reopens in a different location one might expect it to be different. The good news is that it is the same old Pastis, redone in a different location with efficient service (our server Renee was perfectly attentive without being overbearing and answered all our questions with the knowledge of a true professional), great menu choices and the same exquisite attention to each culinary detail. The onion soup was perfectly hot and well balanced. The salads, crisp and fresh. Meats done to perfection and served quickly. Pastis is BACK and better than ever. Is it busy and crowded, of course. Do you need reservations - only if you want to dine. We had reservations for 8:45PM and arrived 15 minutes early. After a short wait we were seated while watching a group of four being politely and professionally asked to come back, perhaps with a reservation next time. There was not one empty table nor was there one when we left close to 11:00. If you are planning a trip to NYC consider making reservations well advance of your arrival and you will not be disappointed.

So glad to see Pastis reopened

By Maria |

So glad to see Pastis reopened and have one of my favorite brunch spots back! Along with Balthazar, they are my go-to staples for a fun brunch when in NYC.

Great food, not a great atmosphere

By Smel N. Goot |

Noisy and crowded but great food. Tables and seating crammed. Host stand does not follow order of reservations, we had to push to minimize the delay.

Fantastic Christmas Day lunch

By faangirl |

I went with family for Christmas Day lunch. The food and service were lovely in the best "Franco" brasserie tradition. My mussels were in a lemony, oniony broth that required a side of tasty bread and butter to do justice to it after the moules were eaten. My fries were crisp, light and flavorful. My companions enjoyed their respective dishes and we all enjoyed the capable, attentive service. Un grand merci! I can't wait to go back.

Simply good

By Anna |

Gorgeous restaurant that captures the mood of Paris. Went for breakfast and the Avocado and eggs were delicious. Great service and location good for a walk on the High Line and Ground Zero.

Lovely spot at south end of the High Line

By LaChatNoir |

We were looking for a lunch spot after walking the high line north to south. This was perfect. Adorable ambiance. Impeccable service. We both ordered croques which were cheesy and delicious. And the Eiffel Sour cocktail was superb.

Good food and service

By Carlos van Rossum |

Delicious food! Very tasty and fine portions. Nice service. The offer from Delicious is really very nice. The dishes were also on the menu but priced on the high side. Nice wine list. But hefty prices.

Excellent Drinks and Seafood

By MilwaukeeLuke |

Stopped in for drinks and oysters. Grabbed a shrimp cocktail as well. Sat at the bar to get immediate seating. Everything was excellent and worth the price.

Lovely brunch in a great, festive interior!

By GradingMachine |

My wife and I had brunch here before we went to the special Hopper exhibit at The Whitney. The food is delicious, and we weren't surprised as we're big fans of Stephen Starr restaurants in Philadelphia. My wife had the Eggs Benedict: I had the gruyere cheese omelette with fine herbs. Both came with delicate, flavorful breakfast potatoes. I enjoyed a mimosa while my wife sipped the St. Germain Spritz. Austin was our server and took good care of us. This restaurant is on our list when we return to NYC. Make a reservation!

To flee

By Jean-Jacques B |

Dear, a lot of waiting while there is plenty of room available. Very limited friendliness but friendly setting. Nothing French in there.... TO FLEE

Very Poor Breakfast, Terrible Service

By NY C |

Unfortunately we had a terrible breakfast today. We are tall men over 6’ 3ā€ and were seated at the smallest tiny table, very uncomfortable. It was not busy! We both had coffee, served with ice cold milk, smh. Our waiter was so unfriendly, we could tell he hated his job. My omelette barely had herbs or cheese, it was nicely cooked, however potatoes and sausage were both cold. No bread or toast served, must pay extra. When I used the restroom downstairs I was shocked at the wine bottle display were caked with thick dust, seriously? And the restroom trash bin was overflowing onto the floor, it was morning! Obviously very poor management.

French Food in West Village

By JDinLA |

This was a delicious dinner on a perfect, NYC night. It was balmy, we ate outside and just enjoyed the evening. We experienced the hostess trying to seat us in a table really for three (we were four), as we're not regulars, but with a quick request, we got a booth outside and had a good waitress. The patƩ was delicious, as were our steak and mussels. We substituted a salad for one of the frites orders, and had delish profiteroles for dessert.

Excellent dining experience.

By simmie17 |

We ended up eating here after shopping in the area. I got a 6 pm dinner reservation on a Saturday. I am from Philly so very familiar with Starr restaurants, including his other NYC restaurant. I was not sure what to expect, but was really pleased with the dining experience. We were greeted warmly, the food was excellent as was the service, and they acknowledged my birthday. ( That is important to me). There was no pretension. I have since recommended Pastis to others as a great choice if in the Meatpacking District.

Lively and warm, delicious French standards served with New York energy

By Elizabeth S |

Bustling with activity, friends and neighbors crowd this popular spot to be served wonderful food and wide ranging choices of dishes and drinks. We will put this on our favorites list.

Rude staff

By NM |

For such a highly rated place, terrible customer service and awful attitudes of host staff. First review I’ve ever written bc felt so strongly about their tone and attitude, would not go back and would not recommend. Food was ok, not great, but completely overshadowed by attitude of staff

Inconsistent

By Joan Cooper |

Service really is everything. Went with my husband and had probably one of the best meals I have ever hadX the waiter was so attentive and charming. Took my friends a few months later, and the service was so disappointing. A busboy was beyond rude, the waiter probably didn’t punch our order in as we saw people sit way after us, eat, pay the bill and we still hadn’t received our food. Sad that it ruined such a nice memory of a favorite meal.

Can't wait to go back

By Miramar |

I recently dined at Pastis for dinner on a Sunday. I made a reservation for outside dining and was seated immediately. The restaurant seems to stay continually busy, so a reservation is a good idea. The outside seating is covered--they have a combination of covered sidewalk tables and some larger "shed" tables which appeared to seat 6. I had an espresso martini which I really enjoyed, as it had a strong flavor. Next, I started off with the Onion Soup which was outstanding in my opinion. Very rich, hearty broth and covered with a large portion of melty cheese, it was one of my best ever onion soups and I have had many. For the main course, I got the Sunday special which is Pork Milanese. This is a very large, thin pork cutlet which is breaded and served with lemon wedges, a parmesan arugula salad and a pork reduction sauce. It was nicely crisp and went well with the accompaniments. Finally, for dessert I got the Passion Fruit Tart. I love anything passion fruit and if I see a menu item with passion fruit, my rule is to order it. This did not disappoint if you are a passion lover. The service was good--not outstanding but definitely better than average these days. I really want to go again and try a few more menu items, so I know this will not be my last visit.

Perfect stop for a French respite

By pthomas156 |

My husband and I stopped here for a French bite after the Whitney and before getting on the High Line (not far away is the little floating island park, also a fun architectural adventure). I had steak tartare (large) and it was PERFECTLY seasoned. Topped with a raw egg. Had a side of crunch toasts. Couldn’t ask for better. My husband had the steak sandwich, which he said was fine. It was topped with a mountain of skinny fries. This is a big brasserie-style restaurant, and when busy it’s pretty loud. The two of us could hear each other, but 4 people might struggle. Service is efficient, the crowd is varied (we were delighted to see 5 teenage boys drop in for lunch lol) and this was exactly what we were looking for.

What's similar to Pastis in Boston?

By Mark H |

Hi, really love Pastis and dine there whenever visiting from London. Will be in Boston is couple of weeks and looking for suggestions for restaurants which have a similar vibe, look and menu to Pastis. Thanks

Good food, professional service, and a decor that draws you in.

By rex h |

Pastis--presents a theatre of food and service. We had a most delightful meal. It certainly is a hot spot to visit. A true delight, and do yourself a favour and try the crispy artichoke.

Welcome back…to bad service

By Jeffrey S |

Thankful to have Pastis back. Not happy that the server was a very curt latio with a big ego or something. Not attentive at all, not friendly what so ever! The woman who brought me my coffee was way friendly that this shmuck!

Dinner

Located in Greenwech Village, the restaurant is very nice, offers a good menu and medium prices. Fairly fast service. Very popular, it is preferable to book.

Not exactly like the old Pastis, but pleasantly suprised

By TravelgalCathy415 |

I used to frequent the old Pastis when I lived in New York. Now I live 3000 miles away from the new Pastis and went there for the first time in December for lunch. It was nicely decorated for the holidays. We ate there mid-week and had a reservation, so no problem there. I decided to order the liver, which is something I don't order often, but I thought I would try it. To my delight it was delicious and even my husband liked it (he does not like liver). My husband's lunch was flavorful and well-prepared which was a steak. The table service was a bit slow but other than that, we enjoyed our lunch at the new Pastis. The set up of Pastis is different than the old one - there is no real bar area.

Vachement!!!.

By David R |

Last time I went to Pastis in 2013, it was just one of many good, hot restaurants in the Meat-packing district, an area packed with bright & loud clubs, shiny bars & pretty-peopled nightlife. Everything changed once the High Line paved the way for utter gentrification. Returning to the area over Christmas, with a reservation at the newly-reopened Pastis, I saw many joints were now high-priced furniture & decor shoppes with mood lighting. Thankfully, the now relocated Pastis is even better than the original, starting with the decor that seemingly spent the past 5 years in hibernation, and a menu of French-influenced food that would please anyone. The tiled floor & walls, oversized mirrors, red leather, tin ceiling, elongated bar & even the octagonal clock were magically back. The lighting was sexy & the wait-staff ungodly friendly & efficient. Loved the creative cocktails. Food? An honestly great bistro, better than before, a perfect mix of classics, like Trout Amandine, Beef Bourguignon & Duck L’Orange (we dined happily and heartily on all three) and assorted comfort food as only the French (or French-inspired) can do it. A 6:00 PM Monday meal was fun, cozy & quiet; can only imagine the huge crowd that follows from 8-11 (TH-S to midnite). Would definitely be my go-to neighborhood place if I lived nearby.

Always a great meal in NYC

By Erin H |

It is nice to see that this restaurant has staying power and that the French Onion soup is as good as it was 10 years ago. My husband and I started off with the soup and ordered the artichoke appetizer. I was expecting a grilled artichoke (since I asked the waitress), but got a smashed, crispy artichoke. It was definitely a miss. We then split the steak au poivre. It was delicious and had the best sauce.

Great place for lunch and good service

By Nicholas W |

Stopped en route to commence a walk on the highline. Great space, good service and very precise and correct french classics Very good salad lyonnaise and omelette and vegetables perfectly al dente . Service worth service charge. Wine list full of french classics especially burgundy but with frightening mark ups

Stellar Food, Wine and Service

By 6Aimee1 |

We recently celebrated our granddaughter's birthday with a lunch at Pastis. She'd never been there & loved it. Among the 3 of us we enjoyed the french onion soup, leeks vinaigrette, smashburgers and the steak sandwich - all excellent. The ambiance was animated & lively - our thoughtful server made sure to bring dessert with a candle so we could all sing. All in all it was a wonderful experience for all of us.

Customers treated like cattle.

By Lodeverr |

You make a reservation online and you arrive in time. You will find a restaurant in complete chaos, clearly not knowing how to manage their reservations. Asking you to have a drink at the bar where chaos is even bigger. "It will only take ten minutes". By the time we got texted after almost one hour that our table was ready, we had a nice and far more welcoming and friendly dinner in the adjacent Italian restaurant 'Serafino'. That one is really worth trying.

Nice location to take into consideration

By Giovi0106 |

Excellent restaurant with very good quality food. Very busy and unfortunately very noisy. Very nice location and also the area where it is located

Fantastic food

By Debbiecgarbutt |

A wonderful Saturday evening spent here with friends. We had a reservation for 5pm and didn't wait long for our table on arrival. Just enough time to order a drink at the bar. We were shown to a booth style table round the back of the restaurant which was lovely. We were celebrating our friends birthday and the staff kindly put a candle on her desert and sung. The scallops were gorgeous as were my friends mussels and lamb shanks. A lovely evening with wonderful food and wine. Highly recommend going.

The worst receptionist.

By nicola |

The food was good, but the guy at the reception was very unpolite and rude with us. He gave our table to other people, which we waited for 40 minutes.

Nice people in New York

By Vittorio71 |

When you're in New York you can't miss a stop at Pastis whether it's for lunch or dinner or even just for an aperitif. You'll find mainly locals, nice people, and it's located in one of the trendiest neighborhoods in New York. International food prices slightly high but in line for a New York restaurant

Terrace is full of mice

By Anonymous |

It was awful. We went for dinner and when it got dark mice started running all over the terrace. We told the waiters and they did nothing. Will never go back again. The place is infected with mice.

Very good address!

By Finbec98 |

Yeah, sure. Very nice retro brasserie. Effective welcome. Very good food and quite generous. Waiting time on 25 December: 50 minutes. A little expensive, but in the end we're not disappointed. Very good atmosphere.

To discover after a walk on the High Line

By lolo2154 |

A cheeseburger certainly more expensive but better than in other restaurants and excellent fries All with the atmosphere of Paris brasserie

Still a go-to place but has lost its shine a little bit. Went for brunch. Bacon a bit soggy. Food ok. Lots of better places.

Buzzy solid performer

By Voyager212 |

Busy, good atmosphere, verging on the too noisy. Had cocktail at the bar while we waited. Good Menu and all our food was well cooked. Friendly staff.

Great vibe, great food, great night

By Eoghan K |

Very atmospheric trendy restaurant, got a good vibe from when we walked in the door. Food was excellent, had the onion soup and fillet steak. Great experience, I’d highly recommend.

Sublime

By Alexandra H |

A terrific experience from start to finish. We sat at the bar, with two amazing bartenders, who mixed much better than average drinks. The food was excellent: the green beans and tuna, fried artichokes, everything was great. The atmosphere was fun (a little loud, but it goes with the territory). We didn't want to leave. Not a place for quiet conversation, but great scene, people watching, food, cocktails, and service --- go.

Beef on a Cold Night

By viperrider03 |

Excellent. Love how they have carefully preserved h]the feel of the old establishment and dropped it into a new location without losing any of the charm. Has a French feel, although I go to Paris too often, so this is definitely the New Yorker version. That said, for Francophiles a long way from home, and for those wishing France a little closer, this hits the mark. Book, book, book!

Amazing feast

By NICHOLAS T |

We had a great meal at the very authentically French themed Pastis in the Meatpackers District. We ordered steak frites, lobster frites and Mac and cheese with bacon together with a green side salad. The portions were huge and all of the dishes excellent. The place was very busy. We got a lovely on street table. The service was very good. Our bill, including a cocktail and glass of wine, was just over 200 dollars which was fair.

I think it's what I ordered

By oxfordms |

I went with about 10 other colleagues for a business dinner and was really looking forward to this meal. It's VERY loud - even by Manhattan standards, but that did not bother me. My friends are "foodies", so pretty much anywhere they pick is really outstanding. They are both live in Manhattan. First of all the ambiance, decorations and service were top notch. Pastis is one of the hotter restaurants (Dec 2019) in Manhattan so I was happy to go. I ordered the special - the Cassoulet and it was so bland that the mustard/pickles that accompanied the dish didn't begin to help it. One other colleague ordered the Cassoulet and I was wondering if it was just my dish since it looked like they were prepared in individual dishes. She said hers was really bad. Nothing rotten about them - just tasteless. I will say, that everyone else loved their dishes and I did try the butter poached lobster roll and it was out of this world. I've never had better lobster (only one bite) in my life. I would go back just for this one dish. The appetizers of Lobster Ravioli, artichoke and steak tartar were all really good

OMG, a must when you are in the area........Best French food I've had since I visited Paris

By Deborah T |

I found this restaurant by accident in January. I loved it so much I came back a few weeks later and this is now my "go to" stop, while in NYC. The mussels and Frites are amazing. Truly a culinary experience. We also had the steak sandwich. I am not exaggerating when I say this is the best, I've ever had. Love the service and the wine list is great. Perfect accompaniment to the mussels and fries........If you are there for brunch try the eggs benedict. Wow......The french onion soup is also a meal on it's own. I honestly can't say enough great things about this brasserie........

Great ambiance

By Rosann G |

Had a memorable dinner at Pastis. Their outdoor eating was very comfortable. Loved the food and service. The Pate’ was my favorite! They also served a great cosmopolitan.

rude host, poor service, food inconsistent

By worldview123 |

Keith (the owner) used to be king but now Pastis is just not good enough and the staff is rude esp the host ... the frites used to be superb now they are just greasy

Consistently good

One of the most solid restaurants in the meatpacking area. Always busy and good atmosphere. French brasserie style done the American way. Does what it says on the tin.

Came here last weekend with a group for a friends birthday and the food and drinks were amazing! Highly recommend!

Trendy brasserie with a modern take on french classics

By wanderer1603 |

Located in the West Village, Pastis is a trendy brasserie focussed on french classics. Bar is beautiful and the bartender makes a great negroni. Menu is very good with lots of options from their renowned burger to more classical cuisine, such as boudin blanc. For starters we had 2x foie gras parfaits, 1x sardines and 1x shrimp cocktail which were all generous and delicious. For mains we had 1x rabbit ragu, which was great although quite small, 1x dorade (daily special) and 1x veal escalope, which were both delicious. Then one of us had the salade lyonnaise which was too salty and claggy with too much sauce overpowering the rest of the dish and salt in addition to the bacon making it unappetising. A sticky toffee pudding was shared for dessert which was delicious. Only gripe is that the staff are very unhelpful, both front of house and servers. If you arrive early, don't expect to be seated (at your table, or at another temporarily, even outside) - instead we had a drink at the bar which was still nice. It was painful trying to get a server's attention. Overall we had a great time at Pastis, food was delicious, menu had plenty of variety, and the atmosphere was great with good music.

Magnifique

By Nina Abbott |

Well known spot which we felt was well worth it. Sat outside which had a lovely atmosphere. The whole area is cool with a fun vibe. Our waiter Joey was SUPERB! The food was excellent, I would certainly return here next time I am in NYC.

Nicoise Nosh

By Allen P |

First time here for a business lunch. It is a great space that is a pleasure to be in. Big menu for this type of stop, with something for everyone. My salad nicoise was solid but not memorable. Side dishes were mixed, with strong mashed potatoes but the spinach tasted like they dumped it out of a frozen bag with no seasoning. I would return and try different items.

Great French bistro

By johnsmith47 |

We had a great dinner at Pastis. The staff was warm and welcoming. Our waiter was great. Drinks were well made. The wine choices were somewhat limited but excellent. Their sommelier seemed very knowledgeable. I highly recommend that you ask him for advice. His name is Michael. I had the artichoke appetizer. It was tender and had a nice tangy sauce to go with it. I had the duck a l'orange. It was cooked perfectly with a great sauce. My son had the lamb tagline and though it was well made. All in all a great place to have dinner. I would come back on my next NYC trip.

Great French Bistro Dinner

By WellTraveled3 |

We had a great dinner for Mother’s Day at Pastis that was as good as any we have had in a bistro in Paris. The escargots were perfectly prepared with authentic garlic butter sauce and the white asparagus appetizer was served with a wonderful herbed sauce. The lobster and frites were outstanding—perfectly cooked and the herbs in the butter sauce and tender lobster and great frites balanced out the few unopened mussels in the moules frites. The profiteroles for dessert were outstanding—with a great dark chocolate sauce.

Excellent food and even better service!

By ZIMBoston |

We dined for brunch on a very busy week-end. We thoroughly enjoyed the cocktails, salad nicoise, eggs Benedict, and chocolate mouse for dessert. The ambiance was upbeat and pleasant. I wish I remembered our male servers name. He was exceptional and made our experience even more enjoyable!

Delightful bistro in meatpacking

By Byron R |

Delightful bistro in meat packing. It had been closed and opened in this new location. Service was excellent from those that greeted us to those who provided service. Our server was friendly and available while not intruding and helpful with the menu. I enjoyed French onion soup and the crisp chicken from the main menu both were excellent. There are also daily special plate of the day dishes.

Excellent service and menu

By shirley0415 |

went for lunch on a very hot day -- appreciated being inside with air conditioning -- had gazpacho soup and lobster salad and fries -- my dining companion had oysters and lobster salad -- we shared the fries which was an ample serving -- while we liked the lobster salad a lot, the portion was tiny, teensy, miniscule, especially for the price and that is the only reason I did not give the restaurant an excellent rating

Cool and solid

By Kristos T |

This NYC pastis is an elegant and cool looking place with lovely Staff and the food was delicious. Branzino with olives was cooked flawless and my husbands duck confit plate was empty in the end. It’s almost a cool Location near the high line with a the modern buildings. One cautious advice : it’s loud . The table besides us was a bunch of wanna be realtors yelling at each other over their meal . It’s loud inside. Get ready to show vaccinations in nyc !

Great French spot

Excellent tuna carpaccio and a very good lamb tagine. My colleagues were very happy with their trout. Definitely worth a visit.

By Globetrottergourmet2 |

A nice place for a celebration. Service is very good and food too. It’s one of the coolest places to be in New York. Very International with french touch!

Always a solid choice

By stingley23 |

Have always loved Pastis our fave is the chicken paillard salad. The onion soup is very good but pretty salty this time and the artichoke hearts were a new try for us and were good but the olive tapenade was slightly strong. Probably being a bit picky like I said we always enjoy it here and the service is great!

Breakfast in Nyc

By Delane F |

Me and my husband went for breakfast at Pastis and everything we asked was wonderful! We order seasonal fruits, croissant with jelly, capuccino, latte coffee and croque monsier, the best I've ever eaten! The account was fair and the service very good and agile, welcoming atmosphere and beautiful! You need to book.
