Top 3 pastrami in NY

By JacN |

Great pastrami, some may say even better that Katz’s, definitely less crowded, nice and genuine staff, been there on our last day in NY right before heading to the airport. We felt really welcome.

Full and Satisfied customers

By WizeGuyFromDaChi |

Nice little gem. Very small but wasn't busy so relaxing, quiet, friendly atmosphere. Close to metro stop and short walk to MET. Don't pass this up without giving it a try. Every bit as good and probably better than the over hyped and over crowded Katz. This just maybe not be as well known. So shhhh,,,keep the secret ;)

Upper East Side deli

By AirSchis |

We found out about this place on Lex based on this allegedly being Anthony Bourdain's fave place in the neighbourhood. Mixed results though. For certain, the hot pastrami sandwich on rye was incredibly good! Moist, tasty and a huge portion of pastrami within the bread slices. One of the best we have ever enjoyed. The prices at this small deli restaurant are expensive. We decided to eat in and do take out. Service when you are dining in is below average. Very slow. Takes a long time to simply get a menu from the 'server'. In fact, some other tables just got up and grabbed a menu. We watched other tables get their meals before we did yet they sat long after us. Of course they ordered sandwiches and we ordered other dishes? Getting the guy to return to give us the tab and a to go container was another long wait... The hot pastrami sandwich was to go and yes it was heaven.

What a nice surprise

By Buzz_Aldrin1969 |

It is a place that must be sought on purpose, because if you walk past it, you don't even notice it, or it doesn't seem worthy of attention. And instead the famous "Pastrami Sandwich" is really delicious, soft, tasty, spicy and BIG. It is served with cucumbers but but I suggest you to also try their side dishes, because they are excellent and in large quantities. They do not offer alcohol, it is a pity, but we respect their choice.

Disappointing

By mars379 |

I was there in mid-December 2019 because of the great reviews. I ordered a half corned beef sandwich on rye and a bowl of matzah ball soup. The soup tasted mass produced -- my own matzah ball soup is much better, and I had to pull out half the corned beef because of the massive amount of fat marbling. I ended up wasting half the sandwich, and the place is not cheap. With tip and water to drink, this set me back $26.

Not a fan

By Dimitri B |

Had a horrible experience. The customer experience was very underwhelming and the prices are outrageously expensive that’s half the quality of what you can get from Katz deli. Plus $2.10 for lettuce and tomatoes? Seriously. My sandwich was not hot, partially cold. They got really quick, dismissive, and flippant. I would not come here again.

Good food, small restaurant

By Diana C |

Pastrami Queen is really good. I wish that sandwiches could have come in a small size or half portion. For the price, this isn't something I can afford to eat every day, but it is worth the visit!

An Honest Sandwich

By Normal_DJO |

Nothing touristy about this small deli. It’s less than a 10 minute walk from the Met and has anything you’d want from an NYC deli. I had the hot pastrami and my partner had the corned beef. Both were excellent. Only downside is that it’s not cheap. Not sure if that’s the norm for delis nowadays, but for our last meal in NYC it’s exactly what we wanted.

Excellent pastrami

By meas62 |

Liked their pastrami more than 2nd Avenue Deli. Not quite Carnegie Deli but that's not around anymore. Still, very good!

The very best in this type of food but beware of take out

By laurance f |

I have been a regular client of this restaurant for years. The food is expensive but there is no comparison with other similar restaurants. It may not look like much but the food is why you come. HOWEVER, be very sure you check everything you ordered for take out before you leave the store. I just ordered a very large order to take with me a distance of 40 miles. When I unpacked the food there was no bread even though I ordered 12 slices. I called and explained I could not return for the bread due to distance. What is a sandwich without the bread. The order taker hung up on me and could not care less. I urge anyone who orders this take out—CXHECK YOUR ORDER BECAUSE THEY DO NOT CARE WHETHER THEY DO THE PACKAGE AS ORDERED. The food is great but take out leaves you really underwhelmed.

Best pastrami ever!

By wrecks |

Love this place. Best pastrami ever. (For me, better than Katz's.) The place is very small, but the close seating has led to some very entertaining conversations with strangers at the next table. Friendly service. Good thing I don't live nearby, or I would weigh 400 pounds.

Pastrami Queen for Kosher style deli is just a notch above average.

By ESPASSOC |

Any suggestions besides Katz' for midtown to UES since Carnegie Deli closed? Pastrami Queen is the best we've found for Kosher style deli but it's just a notch above average and the small dining area nearly pushes patrons to pick-up or delivery. So we ordered pastrami ($45/lb), chopped liver ($30/lb), a loaf of seeded rye bread and pickles to go.

Delish!

By Merle L |

Tiny restaurant. Large sandwiches, absolutely delicious Pastrami for my husband and tuna salad for me. Big name delis have closed, but Pastrami Queen is still around.

Hot Pastrimi on Rye!

By saturdaydiner |

Before our visit to the Met we stopped at Pastrami Queen for lunch. We split a hot pastrami on rye and shared an order of fries. Excellent sandwich and great fries!

Don’t just don’t

By DadMD |

Placed a pre-order three days ago knowing it would be busy on Super Bowl Sunday. Got a text an hour before the food was to arrive that two of the items were not available. Lesson learned will get pizza like everyone else does. Bye Pastrami Queen forever.

No Service

By ricalb |

10 minutes seated waiting for order to be taken. When waiter arrived, we asked if we ordered how long would the food take. His answer was that pretty long. We stood up and left.

Authentic NY Pastrami

By rcsinclair21 |

We stumbled upon this eatery today. This is the real deal if you like NY deli food. Pastrami on rye sandwich was delicious, not to mentioned huge...very filling . Try their new location on w 49th street.

Fantastic

By R. K. V. |

Fantastic! The pastrami was absolutely incredible- best I have had. Bread underwhelming but more than made up by the meat

Excellent pastrami

By BK2 |

Shared a gigantic pastrami sandwich and noodle pudding (kugel) with my son. Very good and fulfilled my need for the authentic NY deli experience. My husband ordered the potato pancake sandwich. I thought that was just ok - prefer my potato pancake crispy rather than a little soggy from the juice from the meat, but it was also extremely large and we all shared. We lucked out and got a table but they had a line soon after as there is very little seating. They are efficient though and people moved along pretty quickly. I'd go back.

Go for the pastrami

By Woohoo315 |

We go to pastrami queen every time we go to the city. After this visit, we decided we didn’t need to rush back again unless you have a craving for a pastrami sandwich. The pastrami is delicious! The hamburgers were not good at all. They had zero taste. The matzah ball soup was really good too.

Not As Good As Hoped For

By wamrazing |

We were in the mood for real deli, but the place we wanted to go to was closed, so we went here instead. It's a small unpretentious place with maybe a half dozen tables, so if you're looking to eat in...you might have to wait until a table clears. We did, but the wait wasn't very long. Our server was taking care of all the tables and yet he managed to be pretty attentive, no complaints on that score. The world of pastrami tends to be greasy...and I almost took a fall on the floor which was very slick...once I made it to a table I was okay, but you need to be careful once you step off the rubber pads in front of the counter. My big gripe was the pastrami...it just wasn't that good. I've been a deli guy for more than 50 years...have eaten in most of the best places in NY and NJ and this pastrami wasn't worth travelling for. It was fatty and watery and devoid of that rich flavor that marks first rate deli. The sandwich was not prepared with care...one half was nicely made and the other an afterthought. It was a real disappointment. Maybe we got there on an off day, but with all the other possibilities in NY to get good food...why bother going back...I won't. Not sure who these folks are who are rating it so highly. It's at best a 3 and that's being generous....

Late Lunch

By Pioneer745223 |

Had grab a late lunch at Pastrami Queen, had no problem getting a table for two in a very small place, probably since it was after 2. We had shared one pastrami on rye plus a knish, although a generous size, the price was still pricy. It was tasty but I still like Kats better.

Who can not have a Pastrami Sndwich in New York City

By Craig T |

While we were visiting Central Park we walked over to Park Avenue for a good pastrami sandwich. Food was good, service was good, price a little high, but what the heck, its New York City.

Super pastrami lunch

By Davide B |

We chose this pastrami small traditional restaurant based on some articles and TripAdvisor reviews.... it was definitely what we were looking for. A traditional Jewish pastrami place! The pastrami sandwich was juicy and super tasty. The fries super! The potato pancake a bit too greasy but tasty. The price cheap!

Best Pastrami ... for a price

By theschmerl |

Wow! Amazing pastrami sandwich! Seriously, the best I’ve ever had. And then, the most I’ve EVER paid for a sandwich! Yes it was delicious, but not out of the ordinary for a sandwich. Not huge. Nothing on it, some pickles on the side. Good rye bread. Regular mustard. The bill, for a sandwich, soda, tax and tip? $30!!!! Yikes. So as much as I loved the sandwich, I won’t go back. And thus, 4 stars instead of 5.

Had to try the pastrami sandwich

By FlyAtNight |

My two long time places to go for pastrami sandwiches have since closed, so it was time to look for a new favorite. Pastrami Queen was recommended by people we met at our hotel. I thought the sandwiches were okay, but the service was poor. It was really crowded, so we had the sandwiches ($18) to go.

Delicious

By magicdoc55 |

The sandwiches are more than adequate and very fresh. The corned beef is as good as the pastrami. Go with a big appetite. Don't miss this place;.

Pastrami is Excellent!

By Erik H |

We figured when in NYC we’d eat an authentic NY deli sandwich. Their pastrami was excellent, and the rye bread the use is good as well. My wife and I split one because there’s a ton of meat. It’s not ideal size wise as there’s only like 6 tables for sitting so be prepared to take your sandwich to go. I would recommend this place to anyone.

The BEST Pastrami and corn beef I have ever had!

By Debbie B |

I just finished eating my late afternoon lunch, and let me tell you, the sandwiches were out of this world! I had the corn beef on Rye, one son had the pastrami burger-YUM! and the other had chicken fingers and fries. It was oh so delicious, I could cry. The portions were huge, which was expected, the price was a bit high, but the quality was superior. Hubby had the pastrami sandwich and he did not speak for the entire time that he was eating, which says that he was truly enjoying and savoring his food. Overall great food, I would definitely go back, again and again.

The Queen of Pastrami!

By Nat W |

Looking for some good pastrami, the fair Pastrami Queen meets the expectations. Delicious pastrami perfectly served on rye bread. The place itself is a hole in the wall, very little room to sit (leave the stroller parked outside). The style is old school deli and all it's treats on display. One minor issue I had was with the order taking skills. I had indicated I wanted gravy for my fries...didn't receive it. The fry's were a healthy serving, yummy but I need the gravy bro. The knish is on point, the matzo ball soup with noodles is a must have. Definitely heading back when I'm uptown. Surprisingly the sandwiches heat well later...if it's too much the first time.

Good lunch

By drblackmac |

I was looking for an alternative to Katz’s deli near the park for our family’s trip to NYC. There was easy table service and a friendly waiter, but reassuringly the guys behind the counter offered frequent nasty glares. The food was decent and though we paid out the wazoo for a sandwich and hot dogs, we all left satisfied.

Worth it!!

By Jjwe3 |

The sandwiches are huge and delicious!! We shared and everyone loved the hot pastrami, salami, pickles, homemade chips etc. It is not a big place and that just adds to its charm and authenticity for a New York deli. We saw it on Anthony Bourdain’s show and we are glad that we went there. It was a great last taste of New York food before leaving that afternoon.

Great service and food

By Thomas S |

Quick visit after a day at the Met We had two pastrami sandwiches, the pastrami burgers and some sides ( the mash potato in pastry and some slaw) Very generous serves We’re not US natives so are not aficionados of pastrami but we loved it Great service, food was delicious About $85 with two cokes Highly recommended

Very unfriendly and dirty

By Herman G |

Terrible food and the most unfriendly and unprofessional management and service i have ever encountered. A very dirty run down place. Surprised that the health department did not close it down yet. For take out you can hardly get your order out. The place is small, dirty and unfriendly. Many other much better delis in NYC.

Christmas Day Pastrami 🎄🎄🎄

By Stan Tecza |

Nothing open on Xmas Day except Kosher/Jewish fare. Ordered a pastrami w/fried onions and a chopped liver. Everything solid.

Back to Katz Deli

By Citygal |

To begin with, the pickle sandwich that wasn’t even hot. Supposedly the pastrami and Cole slaw is stuffed inside a whole hollowed out pickle, and wrapped with paper to keep contents from dripping. What I got was a few slivers of pickle oround the meat which was and then held together with paper on outside. Once the paper was removed, the insides totally fell apart and I had to resort to eating the so called sandwich on a plate with knife and fork. Total rip-off ! Not as advertised and pictured.

good pastrami and other traditional NYC Deli food

By lee_2000_usa |

Pastrami Queen has good (but not great) pastrami; traditional deli atmosphere and other fixings. If you could not get to your favorite pastrami place downtown (it was closed or the line continued around the block), then PQ would be a good alternative for your traditional NYC "Jewish Deli" fix. Or, if you're "uptown" and didn't have time to travel downtown, PQ is OK. Maybe 50 or 100 years ago, maybe there was a Jewish Deli on every corner (as pizza and fast-food joints are on every corner today); but today, few traditional NYC Jewish deli's remain (the Carnegie, for example, is gone). Pastrami Queen is definitely worth visiting; but note that it's only a buck or two per sandwich less expensive than the more famous NYC deli downtown; PQ is a lot smaller and has no self-seating so you must tip a waiter, and it's up to you whether the "newer" atmosphere is nicer, or less nice than the funky old atmosphere in the older, more famous place. The fore famous deli's pastrami is probably slightly better; but PQ is still pretty good. If you're a tourist and have not (yet) had the better pastrami at the downtown place, you may be blown away by PQ.

Delicious!

By brunsoncr |

If you are looking for a great delicatessen, this is the place! Very small with maybe 5-8 tables. Sandwiches delicious - my kids raved as well:). Definitely a shareable sandwich unless you are super hungry. Sides are large as well and should be shared.

Classic pastrami in UES

By Radio Raheem |

Pastrami queen doesnt need introduction. Its def a must try place for Pastrami fanatic just like me ! always on point!

Best sandwich ever!!

By moniqued522 |

Amazing meat, delicious sandwich and mustard (on the side), friendly staff, what else?? Thank you for the great taste.

Purely by chance

By Owl9 |

Mid afternoon only customer, everything looked fresh ready for an after work rush Just happened to be walking by. An earlier trying for a deli sandwich got good chicken soup and a forgettable sandwich Meandering around time square did not come across any place eye catching Then when not looking came across the Pastrami Queen sign in the window! Enjoying my meal heard Hava Nageela begin playing 😻 Adding to the authenticity and flavor of this sandwich experience!

Perfect for a first pastrami experience

By Den M |

It is worth visiting in New York if you have not eaten Pastrami before. Nice location in Upper East Side. Small restaurant but the service is nice. Quite expensive for pastrami sandwich 18$, but the quantity is impressive. I highly recommend garlic Fries

Good sandwiches

By Zahra E |

A good experience: generous and tasty sandwiches. And we ate with family, the kids enjoyed the fried chicken cutlet version and we took the turkey pastrami. The best was the one world famous hot pastrami, the sandwich costs around $24. The seating area is small but friendly, and we are served at the table. Enjoy!

Try the pastrami!

By leighann0576 |

We asked our driver which sandwich shop he would recommend as having the best sandwich in town. I explained we would like to find someplace small, local, and family owned. He recommended that we try Pastrami Queen. He said if I Love it as much as he does that I need to say, “Charlie was right.” So, here it is...”Charlie was right!” I would highly recommend to anyone visiting NYC and it is close to Central Park so if there are no tables available then take it to go and sit in the park to enjoy (just a couple of blocks away).

Fantastic Pastrami for a fair cost (and size)

By Claudio M |

Really tasteful pastrami sandwich and you have the chance to order the “junior version” - half size and half price of the full version. Excellent pickles served with the pastrami.

after sticker shock, it such wonderful pastrami

By MarinMass |

The meat was stacked high and it was melt in your mouth delicious... It is small room, it is not fancy, and there are take out orders happening over a huge selection of deli offerings. But even with the tight space, our waiter was attentive and smiling and we had great service. There were neighborhood regulars and lots of foreigners. We all were happy. I'm sorry some other reviewers were disappointed. Just be open to pure pastrami yummy.

Delicious!

By CloCro |

We came here because of Anthony Bourdain’s review, and of course he was right. Staff were helpful and patient with us. Pastrami was the best I’ve ever had. Potato knish was my first one, and it was great! So good, and better than Katz’s

The best pastrami

By Alex |

This was absolutely the best pastrami sandwich I have ever had. No frills, just bread and a mound of delicious pastrami. The garlic fries were good, topped with the fried garlic. It was definitely too much for one person though, so bring a friend or order a different side.

Not the King

By SHFT54 |

Queen is fitting, for me there's only one king. And that's Katz. The pastrami at Pastrami Queen is more than adequate and if you're from out of town it's almost certainly better than whatever your city is offering. If you're in the area and craving pastrami, you'll get your fix in half the time of Katz's. However, the meat is sliced thinner, is not as flavorful and is less juicy. The Matzah ball soup was a bit bland, lacking salt and the Matzah itself was far too dense.

not worth it

By Bonbonwalden |

the food is good but WAY overpriced. the sandwiches go up to $25 for a deli sandwich. the atmosphere is non existent. there is none! it is just a few tables and chairs in the front of the store. the server was nice but had to ask for bread for a $12 bowl of soup. no cups of soup available. i felt ripped off. much better and less costly at other delis in town.

Outstanding pastrami!!

By Herb L |

This is a rather small place with perhaps 6 or 7 tables. When we went there the place was jammed with people waiting to order. We were lucky enough to get a table. The service staff was very friendly and helpful. We ordered a 1/2 pound pastrami sandwich and split it between the two of us. It was outstanding, one of the best we've ever had. We can't wait to go back!!

Better and cheaper than Katz

By kontolkuda |

If you want value for your money, this Deli is better than overprized Katz Deli. Have more meat and bigger bread size. The only thing is they have small sitting area and its hard to have a table during lunch time. For $24 this is better price than Katz. Your should try their 3 meats sandwich (pastrami, brisket and tongue sandwich)

A no chicken flavor chicken soup.

By travelbug68ny |

I thought that I could get authentic chicken soup from this Deli given that I was in the hospital and could only have liquids. My husband bought the soup which was basically the worst tasting bouillon cube soup I have ever tasted. No chicken was ever used to make this soup. The hospital soup was better than theirs. When I called twice to speak to the manager and told him that I could not eat anything but liquids, he just would not accommodate me and suggested I have a different soup. There is absolutely no consideration or customer service in this abysmal fake calling itself a deli. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Fantastic Pastrami and Corned Beef!

By Wendy |

We chose this place as it was well reviewed. Had a delicious sandwich and we were sold! We ordered 1 lb. of Corned Beef and 1 lb of Pastrami to go. I had brought a "cold keeper" bag with us and we flew back to NC thst night. So happy we brought some home. Really, really delicious! PS, the service was lovely and friendly and wonderful as well! Can't wait til our next visit!

Truly Kosher

By Simeon G |

I had a craving for Lox on a bagel so I searched for a kosher deli in the theater district. This was right around the corner from our hotel. Staff was welcoming and polite. Server told us up front about being kosher, so no dairy. They had more than enough options to make up for what you normally would expect in a restaurant, e.g. three options for creamer in your coffee that weren’t dairy. Cream cheese based on soy. The lox were good, just not outstanding.

Nice juicy pastrami

By MPtripletta |

I had a long lunch break, so I walked up from 70th for a pastrami sandwich, since NY is a place to get good pastrami. very small place with about a dozen tables. I had pastrami, juicy, lean and moist. The rye bread was good as well. A good size sandwich but they aren't as big as they used to be. Pickles, always a nice compliment. definitely worth a stop for good pastrami.

Best Pastrami I may have ever had.

By Neillibin |

Possibly the best Pastrami I have ever had and Kosher too boot. Great little dive with tight seating, but the atmosphere is all NY and a deli. The waiters were great, the food outstanding and we loved it.

Delicious.

By luberrie |

Wow. What an understated find. Gr8 food gr8 service, tiny but tasty. Followed trip advisor recommendation and so glad we did. It's not flashy. Its real.

Worst meal in New York

By Sashenka |

We visited the Pastrami Queen at Times Square for lunch before a show. My husband ordered the all day breakfast eggs and I ordered the garden salad with a grilled chicken breast as an extra. The eggs turned up promptly and were fine. My salad took 20 minutes to appear and looked like they had quartered a lettuce and added some limp vegetables on top. I was also advised there was no chicken breast. To their credit, they apologised and did not charge me for the salad. The pastrami sandwiches others were eating looked good, but all other cafes do better salads.

A Hidden Treasure

By Chelsea42 |

I've been to Pastrami Queen once before and this second visit was equally good. The sandwiches are huge and absolutely delicious. Easily big enough to share. The cole slaw is wonderful, too. The rye bread they use is very fresh and the pastrami perfectly sliced and piled high. You get a plate of pickles on the side. The place is tiny if you want to eat there (both times we've eaten in the late afternoon when it isn't crowded) and I'm sure they do a big take-out business for those who live in the neighborhood. It's a very low-key place on Lexington, unlike some of the other high profile delis on the lower east side. For my money Pastrami Queen has them all beat. I can't wait to return.

Wow! Impressive.

By BaldAndHappy |

If you are a true deli lover, you don’t go to delis for the ambiance. This place fits that bill. There are 16 seats. It is cramped. Now, if you go for good food, this is it. Loved the pastrami sandwich and matzo ball soup. The cole slaw is also excellent. So, get a Dr. Brown’s black cherry and a hot pastrami and stop worrying about the ambiance. You will be happy.

A Real Treat

By FLB |

We were hungry and ended up at the Time Out complex near the Brooklyn Bridge in Brooklyn. We ordered a pastrami sandwich, coleslaw and French fries and shared. OMG everything was delicious and it was fun to walk around the complex and see the other eateries.

Reasonable bit expensive

By PortmanPiePanda |

Small wait for a table, no big deal though. If anything, reassuring to see a restaurant busy in the late afternoon. Ordered the roast beef open sandwich. Thought it was pretty underwhelming for c.$25. Service was attentive but wouldn't be tempted to go back at those prices.

Best Pastrami you will ever taste!

By Juan G |

Great food but mostly a take-out place!! Sandwiches are expensive but humungous! Fed us for two lunches!!

Great pastrami sandwich

By theTRAVELER2o15 |

A really nice pastrami sandwich, even if it was a bit greasy. The interior of pastrami queen is a bit dated and small, but the pastrami sandwich makes a great snack lunch. You can also have takeaways. The sandwich was also very big and stuffed full of pastrami, so we shared 2 between 3.

Tiny hole-in-the-wall but a NYC Institution!

By Beverly G |

Rarely get a chance to eat at a Kosher Jewish deli in Asia, so this was a welcome treat. The place is so quintessentially NYC too, was fun! Pastrami Queen is also a good lunch break spot if you're doing the Met or spending a day in the park. The tiny cafe was packed on a weekday lunch hour, with a line of people waiting for tables or getting take out. Portions are huge (by Asian standards) so do share. Pickles are very sour. I don't understand this..

Nice pastrami and nice attention

By Marina D |

We were three persons and wanted to try pastrami in New York. We asked for three different dishes, and all of them were very good. We loved the pastrami. The attention was really nice. We recommend it!

Decent

By abarasol |

Pastrami Queen hit the spot for our occasional “off the diet” treat. Sandwich was fairly large... more than enough to share. Service polite and fast. Prices a few dollars less than the heavies. Menu limited.

Good

By Harley Quinn |

The pastrami sandwich is very good but the corned beef a little bit dry. The cucumber salad and pickles were awesome. I recommaned

Yuck

By Sandra B |

I ordered the pastrami sandwich on rye and got it to go. In my hotel room I opened it up and took a bite. Nearly gagged, so much fat it tasted slimy. I had to go through it and remove about 30% of fat that wasn't edible. For $18 I was expecting more. Don't bother going here.

Best pastrami in Manhattan

By Ildiko T |

Great place where also many locals go..it is always a good sign and a sign of authentic, good local food. Their house pastrami is out of this earth, delicious and a huge portion. You can easily share it (it costs 22$). The fries are from my childhood no frozen stuff but real fried potato. Also a huge portion. Service is friendly and effective.

Satisfied my pastrami craving. Small place, but good service.

By Veronique |

I was craving my pastrami sandwich, but didn’t feel like trekking down to Katz’s, so we ended up at Pastrami Queen and it was good. The place is cramped. There are only a handful of few tables and we didn’t need to wait for one, but you’re right next to your neighbors. I thought the waiter was quite pleasant and friendly and efficient, so no issues with the service at all. But, the place looks a bit dirty and rundown. As for the pastrami sandwich, it was good. The rye bread was on the soft side with a tougher crust, but the pastrami was quite tasty. Just enough fat and flavor. We also shared a side order of fries which were good, but I thought the prices were on the high side. I was happy for the experience and to get my pastrami fix, but I wouldn’t go back. They do take credit cards which is nice and you can add the tip to your card, if need be.

Pastrami Queen w/ friends

By Daniel Martinez |

Pastrami Queen was everything I thought it was going to be. The moment I walked through the doors I could feel the excellence and I knew I was in for a good meal. We were greeted by a man who I assumed was the owner. We were seated at the table right by the deli. You could smell the aroma of the soup, meat, and desserts. There’s no better smell in this world than fresh well made food. I ordered the motza ball soup and 1/2 a pastrami sandwich. It was one the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. The soup was delicious as well. The experience was amazing I will be returning to eat again one day.

2 Meals Worth!

By Rebecca S |

I got pastrami on rye as a takeout option. The sandwiches are seriously overstuffed meaning great value for money! I had half fresh, and half in the evening cold - both were amazing. Absolutely highly recommend this place.

Great Food.

By Dana C |

We wanted to experience a deli while in the Big Apple and opted for this as it is near Central Park. It isn't a tourist spot, appears mainly locals go hear. Sandwiches were great, big enough for two to split a sandwich. Knish was awesome. Fries were awesome, homemade with a garlic seasoning. This is a small joint, mainly a pick up and go deli. A few tables. Service is what you expect. We would return when back in NYC.

Solid Traditional NYC Deli

By ArtsyGalBaltimore |

Upper east side with 10 minute walk to Met. Cramped seating in small clean hole in the wall. Large deli menu. We went for $24 pastrami with 2 pickles. We went all out with cucumber and coleslaw salads. Shared the stacked sandwich. Limited soda selection and no horse radish. Left stuffed and content. Service speedy and pleasant.

Fabulous sandwich!

By DesmondJH |

I treated myself to the “extra meat” version of their pastrami sandwich. $27.00 so not cheap but the flavor and texture are unbeatable. As a bonus, at the bottom of the bag was an appointment card for an angioplasty at Mount Sinai Monday morning! I shouldn’t have ordered it and I definitely shouldn’t have eaten the whole thing in one afternoon. But I did and it was fabulous. Grab one, walk over to the park, sit down where people can see you, and dig in!

Pastrami NOT Queen

By marieshoppingbag |

I arrived a little too early before the store opened. Initially, they weren’t willing to serve me, so I simply waited outside. I ordered the pastrami, which they’re known for. The sandwich came with ordinary bread, one pickle, and pastrami. It was tasty on its own, but I was disappointed with the bread, especially since there were no other options. It felt a bit overpriced for what it was and honestly, it didn’t live up to the hype. The atmosphere wasn’t anything special either. I did enjoy it with a classic soda float, but I won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend

You had one job!

By john w |

... and you nailed it! I mean it’s called Pastrami Queen so they better not mess that up, right? Right. And good for them they didn’t - it’s all good all the time. Sticking to the basics is their recipe for success and it works. Congrats carnivores, you’ve got a winner here. Vegan? Have a pickle!

A cheaper pastrami sandwich than Katz!

By Bruno M |

The pastrami sandwich is good but the meat is not as tasty as Katz's. Grab it and go eat it at Central Park. Congrats, you're halfway on being a New Yorker. Be careful, I went to the toilette and almost slipped due to the greasy ground.

Delicious pastrami sandwich

By Muxtar M |

It's a small place with around 7-8 tables, but serving a delicious pastrami worth waiting a little bit to get seated. There are variety of sandwiches and a plate dishes, but classic pastrami sandwich is a must to try

Chicken noodle soup is flavorless and tastes like made from cube flavoring. Noodles very mushy. Pastrami tough and hardly authentic sadly. Rye bread ok but not marvlous

Overpriced small and fatty sandwich on stale bread. Not worth the price or the taste. Don’t get fooled by the reviews.

By jordanm652 |

An overpriced and over rated pastrami deli. For $32 you’d expect a fat juicy and lean pastrami or corned beef sandwich on fresh rye bread. For 3 of us, We got $100 of stale bread, fatty pastrami and corned beef, a miniature pickle and heartburn. There is no accounting for taste, yet for us it was a tasteless, overpriced and rotten experience. STAY CKEAR OF THIS RIP OFF JOINT, and head to Katz’s on Houston street for the real experience. The greatest disappointment for a patient in Lenox hospital was unfinished and flew into the garbage.

Great deli option in NYC!

By Chloe7122 |

We were wanted sandwiches for dinner and picked Pastrami Queen based on some recommendations. Good choice! It was not too crowded and space is limited. We ordered pastrami and tuna sandwiches, with potato pancakes and onion rings. WOW -- the onion rings! They were simply the best! Honestly, they were the best rings I have ever had. Our potato pancakes was a little over-cooked. Oh, and did I mention the pickles -- yum! A good option for casual sandwiches and sides!

Great!

By Roberts08 |

We asked SIRI for a nearby deli and here we are. Delicious Pastrami sandwich— one is plenty for 2 people- fries and drink. Maybe 6 tables for 2 available. Lots of take out orders. When we got back to hotel, we googled it and found out it had been Anthony Bourdain’s favorite pastrami place!

Very Good Pastrami

By 1039 |

Ate recently at the Moynihan food hall site. Had a hot pastrami sandwich and it had been awhile since I had a pastrami sandwich but was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.

Great local gourmet food!!

By Bosporos |

We always visit this place when in NYC. We order the famous pastrami sandwitch that costs 22 USD. Believe me it worths it. Take your sandwitch and enjoy it in Central park. We will come back for sure

No fuss great food

By Adrian315 |

it has a small and busy seating area so you may need to wait but it is well worth it. Is a variety of options on the menu and multiple sizes available, you are almost sitting in the kitchen so you know everything is freshly prepared and made to order. The Pastrami Sandwich was the best I have ever had full of flavour and cooked to perfection, all the food we saw coming out of the kitchen looked amazing, would definitely head back there if I am in NY again. Also give the celery flavoured soft drink a go Cel-Ray. This is definitely worth heading too even if you are not in the area. Is not too far from central park we stopped here after cycling round Central Park – arrived hungry but left full and happy.

Disappointing

By Carole W |

$22 Pastrami sandwich was small and full of fat,……like the end part of the meat. Miss Arties on the upper West Side who used to serve the table a bowl of cole slaw and a big bowl of pickles.

Best Pastrami I have had

By Maine_Traveler74 |

I grew up eating in kosher delicatessens eating pastrami on the fatty side with gribenes so you have to understand where I come from. After driving to NYC and being quite disappointed with a stop at a well-know deli outside of NYC, I was searching for a pastrami sandwich. My usual in the past was the Carnegie or Katz's and a long time ago The Crown. The Pastrami Queen was suggested by a local friend and on our last day we went quite out of our way to sample their food. The restaurant is small but we were able to snag a table for two and get it cleaned. The server was very busy but also very nice. The Pastrami sandwich was as good as it gets even if he forgot to add the fried onions (a substitute for gribenes). Too bad they don't Dr.Brown's Celray tonic but we had to do without. I will return.

Excellent pastrami

By vale250584 |

I have no comparison terms because I haven't tried kat's, but here the pastrami was really good and plentiful, with very good sauces and side dishes. Fair count. Another note of merit is the fact of being kosher, which allows you to manage intolerances well. Very small and spartan place, only negative note no alcohol.

Yummy Lunch

By brmusicman |

We were headed to the Met and stopped in here for a late lunch after getting off the subway. Very small place, with a deli counter and a few tables. Great deli menu--tons of sandwiches and a couple of salads and soups. Our server was classic New York: brash but really fun and very polite, happy to make a recommendation. We split a chicken salad sandwich; it was great: really delicious rye bread and a very ample portion of chicken salad with moist chicken and some nice crunch from the vegetables. A cucumber salad to accompany was perfect; it had nice vinegary bite and the cucumbers retained their crunch. Fairly expensive for sandwiches, but large portions and a classic New York experience. A great lunch. Would definitely return!

Great Pastrami period!

By Jacques R |

This place has an amazing Pastrami!! Do yourself a favor and do not eat it there…. Just as for takeout and go eat it elsewhere… this Pastrami is cut thicker than your usual sandwich, but trust me, it gives it a very deep flavor that lingers in your mouth very nicely!! Our service when we ordered was good and the place has usual lines of people… I will come back and order here!!! Cheers

Small deli, great pastrami

By Isabelle-leesveel |

This place is very small in comparison with Katz’s. Less tourists, more locals. Share a table with someone or sit close to others. The pastrami on rye is good and fresh. Maybe a little more fat than at Katz’s. I liked the mustard more from here. Big portions, close to the museums. Waiter was efficient.

Good service

By Cassandra M |

I saw some reviews about bad service--some of which were from customers who wanted to bypass the rules about table service, When I ordered, I was asked if I wanted carry-out or table. No problem or long wait, even though it was around dinner time. This place is Kosher. Don't look for Reubens!

A sandwich that can feed 2 people

By Michael_Corey77 |

The place is not very big. Seating is very limited. The sandwiches are not cheap. It is a Kosher Deli. You pay for it, but the quality of the sandwich is excellent.

Very small crowded space

By TwoTexanstraveling |

First.. do not order chicken noodle soup. Its actually barely "hint o chicken" soup with small noodles lol e like Campbell's original, but with NO flavor. The corned beef sandwich was packed with meat. It was ok at best. The rye bread fell apart, making it difficult to eat as a sandwich. I think it should have s 2 1/2 star rating, but that's not an option.

This is typical New York City deli walk-in food... get it to go, or sit inside and eat at a table...

By Stephen F |

My wife an I were in New York City for just 3 days and ended up eating here twice - it was that good. The first time we went for lunch and had the overstuffed Pastrami and Corned Beef sandwich... so big that it fed both of us. We ate in the restaurant, so they served us pickles on the side... I guess that's a New York thing. Those were good too. But the sandwich was amazing! Every bite was flavorful... and like I said, so good, we came back a 2nd time during our visit. The second time we tried a side dish of Onion Rings.... also amazing. The plate was huge! The onion rings were perfectly done... not greasy or overly oily (not the same thing).

Pastrami on Rye

By JScotG |

We were looking for lunch after the Met and found this place searching for Delis. I got the Pastrami on Rye. Was a bit pricey but the sandwich was huge and I ended up eating it one half then and one half later. The pastrami was the best I’ve ever eaten. So soft, not a lot of fat and so flavorful. The rye bread was the perfect counterpart. I loved the quaint interior which looked like an old school New York place. Even the pickles were good. Try it.

long wait times for decent food

By Ellen L |

Went around 1 pm and the tiny place with limited seats was packed. Was told it would be 45 minutes to wait for my sandwich. Got a half pastrami and half corned beef lean. It was still a bit fatty and was not as tender as I would have liked. They don't offer pumpernickel only rye or other breads. This is a kosher place only. The pickle was good and the coleslaw. Not sure this was worth the wait but would give it another try.

Disappointing

By Susie Hancox |

Pastrami Queen is a bit of a schlepp from the usual tourist attractions in NYC, but having walked from Times Square we were determined to fill our bellies! On arrival though there is minimal seating and the prices are sky high compared to other independent delis in the city. We walked to blocks south and found a delicious bagel joint which was half the price.

Great Kosher Pastrami place!

By pogachels |

We of course had to order a pastrami sandwich when we were in the neighborhood and heard this place was so great. It lived up to the hype! We will be back.

Really Pastrami KING !!

By cmatillas-Spain |

We were there with my wife and two kids at lunch time on Sunday at we had a terrific time eating Best Pastrami ever before anywhere in the world. The place it s really small with 8 seats but service is outstanding , fast and very kind. It s kosher and it s veryvery clean. I dream to visit it again on my future visits to NY . Congratulations and keep performing so well. Carlos and family from Spain

Small Space; Large sandwiches

By srnwood |

We've been paying homage to Anthony Bourdain this summer. It only seemed right while on a trip to the city to stop by Pastrami Queen for one of his favorite foods: a real New York pastrami on rye from the mothership itself. We arrived ahead of the lunch rush and snagged a table. One sandwich for two women was precious plenty. We should have passed on the apple strudel. It was nothing special. Although a vegetarian might leave hungry, the menu was abundant and chockfull of all the New York standards: beef tongue, chicken liver pate, corned beef, liverwurst, and the usual deli specials. We loved those pickles!

Mindblowing ...

By Airwalk77 |

Unprecedented ... the taste of the pastrami is simply mindblowing ... I have never eaten anything like it (not even in Europe). It is a must for every tourist, every New Yorker basically for everyone. I am so going back there. Needless to say, the staff are super friendly and I wish I would live near by so that I could get my pastrami every day.

Never disappoints

By Q Smythe |

The pastrami on rye just keeps going after all these years - the crowded restaurant is proof. The service is fast and efficient.

Yummo

By Stylelust |

They do make a nice big sandwich with wonderful pastrami, fresh bread and easy, quick service. The photos will make you want to eat your computer. Since Carnegie Deli left us....Pastrami Queen is the Royalty of Pastrami in NYC.

Take-out never comes!

By Rob P |

Do not order from here anymore unless there is a management change. I ordered $150 of take-out on seamless today. They estimated 45 minutes. I waited 90 minutes and then called to inquire when food would arrive. I was told the order had "left the store". 20 minutes later still no food (did I mention I live across the street - yes I am lazy.) So I went over to the restaurant to ask where the food was. Guy at cash register says "I do not know". His staff look at the orders pending and find my order. He then says it is "in process". I said that when I called "you told me it left restaurant 20 mins ago." He says "well it is still being made." I ask when it might be ready he says he does not know. I ask who is in charge. He says no one. I say "that seems clear". Then he freaks out. Tells me the order is "now canceled" and kicks me out of the restaurant - yelling "get out, get out, get out, get out, get out, get out..." Luckily for me, there is a "waiter" working today (his second day at the job) who follows me outside and tells me that he will inquire if I can still get my food. He returns and says, "no the order really has been canceled" and it is 100% up to the discretion of the guy at the cash register. So two+ hours and no food...a lot like on TV. It turns out that the seamless orders and any perhaps any delivery orders are handled after the in-restaurant guests and any walk-ins. So it is no wonder I did not get my food. It's too bad. I have been ordering here for 20 years or more. It was a nice place to get good lean pastrami and corned beef sandwich when his father (cash register guy) was alive. But now, he is the only one in charge and it is poorly managed. It is too bad for the two guys behind the counter as I expect this will not end well for them and they too have been there for 20 years. While the food is still good, it is very expensive for this kind of service. Note: I will admit that the "waiter" did call the actual owner (who does not work in restaurant) and after explaining the situation to him, he did apologize and offer me a $100 food voucher for my next order. But I am not sure what would have happened if the "cash register guy" was really in charge with no adult supervision to support him if he freaks out again. So I turned down the voucher and decided to provide the story.

Fantastic pastrami. Honors the name.

By AnaZad |

We were recommended this place for my craving of pastrami sandwich. What a great suggestion; we loved it! We also ordered the coleslaw and it was so delicious. The place is small, about 16 seats. The service is great and fast. We were helped by a nice Guatemalan guy, with great manners and impressive English. Many people come in just for take out.

Awesome

By stevenf g |

LOVE this deli. Exquisite pastrami, corned beef, brisket, knishes, soups. Two locations: one in the upper east side and the other near theatre district.

Deli Favorite

By TravelMom2Too |

So New York! Happy to have the opportunity to eat something authentic to this city. Hot pastrami was a perfect start to a rainy morning. Delicious meal. Clean environment. Will return again!

Wow!

By Javier G |

DELICIOUS pastrami sandwich! Probably the best of NY. Quiet tiny place upper east. The service is not that good.

Not as good as the hype

By richardallan2016 |

I had finally convinced my wife that we had to try this restaurant. It is hole-in-the-wall space with limited seating capacity. The target was to eat their highly touted pastrami. Service is less than spotty and everything took for ever to be served. Twice when I could not get the waiter's attention I waved to the manger for help...totally ignored me. I like the pastrami, my wife did not. The noodle pudding was this overly sweet door stopper that arrived as we were finishing our sandwiches. Bottom line we will not go back.

Good pastrami for top dollar

By Lackerfollow |

Expensive pastrami is a treat... and this fits that bill. Huge sandwich was way too much meat for me as it really throws off the meat to bread ratio. I know the classic NYC delis serve it up the same way, but I would still love to see a sandwich on the menu with half meat for a lesser price. I'm sure I'm not the first to request this. If they put a smaller and less expensive sandwich on the menu, I would give it a higher rating. I'm giving the service a 4 star as a tip of my hat the an African American guy behind the counter with a nice smile who gave me a generous taste of pastrami while I waited.

Disgusting Grease pit

By rachel e |

Pastrami King, the forerunner of Pastrami Queen was my childhood Kosher Deli back in Kew Gardens from the mid 1960's. Our family drove in from Long Island to eat there. I finally had the chance to try this new iteration. Sorry I bothered schlepping up to 77th and Lexington. I should have just gone to Ben's or Katz's. That was the worst pastrami sandwich I have ever had at a place that purports to be a Pastrami specialist. I also order fries. Inedible. I think you get my point. Also, this place is so small and claustrophobic that I could not wait to leave. Only good point, the waiter dropped the fries from the bill but that should not have been necessary. Save your time...go elsewhere.

Great pastrami

By Rria205 |

My husband had an excellent pastrami sandwich and I had an ok roast beef, but the gravy was amazing.

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE

By Sherry |

The pastrami was just meh, which was very surprising to us. There are only a few tables for two and the place is very small. The bathroom is barely the size of one on an airplane. This place was recommended but we would not recommend it and would never return. $25 for a minuscule sandwich which was more fatty than meat. Extremely disappointing.

Great Pastrami

By Teresa G |

I grew up eating pastrami, but as an adult I rarely eat it since it isn't the healthiest of choices. However, on vacation pretty much anything goes. So when we walked by the Pastrami Queen, I decided to splurge and I was not disappointed. This is what I remember as a kid. They meat was juicy, pretty lean and very flavorful. And the rye bread was the best I've had in years. The place is tiny and cramped and wonderful. Felt like I went back in time.

Queen Says it All!

By sisterida |

On a trip to New York at the recommendation of a friend we had lunch at Pastrami Queen. It was fantastic! This is a little hole in the wall place that mainly deals with carryouts. However, we had table service. The corned beef was tender and the sandwich huge. The sandwich was well priced and it was worth the trip. I would hihly recommend it as a carry out or dine in. People next to us had the soup and it smelled wonderful. They commented on how good it was.

Real Jewish deli

By Faith T |

Went to the West Side site with a colleague. Got the Monday night pastrami sandwich special and kasha varnisches. Everything was delicious and service was very fast.

Popular uppercut East side atmosphere!

By X68 |

Kind service. Tight tables. Very good pastrami. Reasonable price. Lots of people waiting or coming to get their takeaway pastrami. Popular uppercut East side atmosphere!

Unbelievable!

By Mike T |

Ok, real real small place, you might need to order to go. We were lucky we got a small and cramped table. We split a pastrami sandwich with pickles and two cokes $30 but it was the most delicious hot pastrami sandwich I've ever eaten, unbelievable! The rye is dry as good rye bread is and the pastrami so soft and delicious, it melts in your mouth ! Truly one of the best things I've ever eaten, and I've tried a lot of different stuff, great spicy mustard, excellent!

The matzo ball soup is a meal in itself!

By Arlene M |

My husband and I stopped here for lunch since we had a Broadway matinee on the next street and wanted to be there in plenty of time. When we arrived I noticed the front area is for take out only. A hostess led us to our round booth in the back. We had a very nice waitress who was friendly and helpful. Since pastrami was what they were known for I asked if it could be possible to have either a smaller size or half. They don't make them smaller however, I could have half a sandwich with a cup of soup. I ordered the pastrami half and a cup of matzo ball soup. My husband ordered the veggie burger with fries. It took a while to get our food but not so long that would make us late for the show. When we got our meals I found when I tasted the pastrami it really wasn't hot as the menu said it would. Our waitress who came to check on us had it taken back and it was replaced with another whole half of a heated sandwich. It came with a dish of coleslaw. Needless to say I found the meat of mediocre quality and since they has replaced my original one I couldn't finish it let alone give some to my husband to enjoy. My bowl of soup on the other hand was very good! Thinking I was only getting a cup I ended up with a bowl. Expecting only a broth with a matzo ball it did come with noodles and carrots. My husband loved his veggie burger but told me it fell apart since the bun it sat on was too thin. He enjoyed his fries as well. We were never served pickles but since there was too much to eat anyway I didn't miss them. This place has 2 gender neutral restrooms. No WiFi is available. Needless to say this was my first somewhat disappointing next to my hotel food yet I must admit the soup alone had I know the size and how good it was made for a meal in itself.

Delicious and authentic

By TheTallNichols |

We enjoyed a delicious pastrami sandwich (big enough to share) and a friendly, attentive waiter. We'd never had a knish (the waiter helped us pronounce it correctly) and it was delicious as well.

Bursts of meaty flavor

We wanted some good NY pastrami...well we found it! I had the open pastrami sandwich which came with coleslaw and potato salad...my hubby had the regular sandwich. We were savoring every bite! Highly recommend!

A true Deli as you would expect.

By RON |

Each day is different when it might come to lunch. Having just left the MET Museum we decided to go to a good kosher deli. We knew one in the area but today decided to try something new, So we went inside the Pastrami Queen. It was nice and small when we walked in. It was also empty. I was about 12:20p and we decided to sit at one of the few tables and order something to eat. Our assistant was a kind gentleman who brought us the menus to take a look. It was easy to decide. You could smell the flavors as soon as you walked inside. And being traditional we went in that route. There was a special of Half a Sandwich and a bowl of Matzo Ball Soup. It is a flavor we always enjoy. We also ordered a complete sandwich of Pastrami on Rye. They brought out the soup first. It was a good size Matzo Ball. The soup was fresh chicken flavor. Inside the mix was some carrots and noodles. The bowl was large. You could have a meal itself with this. It was also nice and warm. Truly fresh and traditional in flavor. Something you might have grown up with. As for the Pastrami Sandwich in fresh Rye bread this is as you would imagine and expect. It was a good portion of lean pastrami. It was slightly thin and slightly warm to the touch. The flavor was ideal. For some we do put on some mustard. I use Russian Dressing on it for an extra touch I have always had with this. It is served with the three levels of pickles. Your choice. I ate all three. To compliment what we had we naturally ordered our Dr. Browns Cream Sodas. It is what you need to have with the Pastrami Sandwich. It is what to expect. Interestingly there are only about 8 tables. Each with only 2 seats. We were the first in there. By the time we finished we saw 4 tables taken but a line of take-out orders. One person was doing both lunch and dinner to order. This is a good place. The prices are correct for what you receive. It is a traditional kosher deli. It has what you expect. This is not a mix of different items. It is what you would expect from this type of deli. I will definitely go back.

Small dinner where good pastrami sandwiches are served including soups and other hearty salads. Nice service.

NYs Best -- Pastrami Crown Heir Apparent!

By mshapiro99 |

We loved the Carnegie Deli for pastrami sandwiches, until it closed down. We discovered Pastrami Queen, on Lexington Ave between E 78th and 79th, and ordered both an overstuffed Pastrami Sandwich and a Spinach Knish. We were not disappointed! The pastrami was tender and delicious, served with spicy brown mustard and 2 kinds of pickles, and the knish was flaky and very flavorful. This is now our new "go-to" place for pastrami in NYC. One regret: We saw, but did not buy, a "Pastrami Queen" T-Shirt. They do not appear to be available online. Next visit!

Good heavens! What a sandwich

By lipschick |

After a morning strolling round The Met, and as a fuel injection before we tackled the Central Park Loeb boats and a walk back to Mid Town we made a detour to Pastrami Queen. We got lucky that in arriving just after noon (Friday) we instantly got seated, within 15 mins it was packed (but can still order take out) We had, between 3 of us. 1 x fried chicken sandwich (came with two breaded chicken breasts) and 1 x Pastrami Sandwich. Plus an order of garlic fries, cucumber salad and drinks. Complimentary bowl of pickles get you started. Now. I can eat and have the belly to prove it. My wife can eat and hides it in her legs I think, my son (12) can also eat. She had 1/3rd of the boy’s chicken sandwich and a handful of fries and was ‘done’ I had 1/2 the pastrami sandwich and a handful or two of fries and was equally done. The boy....ploughed through the chicken sandwich, the pastrami half, the pile of fries and only declared himself done once everything was gone. The food was absolutely delicious. And whilst it’s $18 for a sandwich, it really is great value given the mountain of food you get. All of the food was absolutely delicious. We will definitely be back on our next visit.

The good and the bad

By pepperoni2018 |

I ordered a pastrami sandwich that I ate at their restaurant on-site. The service was great. The pastrami on the sandwich was lean, abundant, and very tasty. It was so good that I ordered two pounds (at $35 per pound) to take home on an airplane. The pastrami I bought by the pound was very fatty. It was hard to separate the slices. I cut away enough fat to make the pastrami edible.

My choice, better without the Katz’s tourists

By RalphGleason |

Genuine old school Jewish deli. On par with Katz’s but (in my opinion) a better table service experience. The locals eat here and you dont get stuck behind some tourist okie from miskokie trying to figure out what pastrami is and how to order it. Excellent mushroom barley soup. Pickles were a little too new for me and the rye a little too fluffy and not enough seeds. Overall a better choice than Katz’s unless you need the absolute original and are very patient & willing to put up with the out of towners, wait in line and remember the old days before the lower east side landed on the tourist map

Disappointing pastrami sandwich at Pastrami Queen (upper west side)

By Lee |

Very disappointed with the pastrami sandwich at the Upper West Side outlet of Pastrami Queen. The size of the $20 sandwich was small (little meat), and the pastrami was very dry - not juicy at all. Go to Katz Deli for the best pastrami sandwich - quantity and quality - in NYC.

Vegetable Pancake

By CrazyPeanut1 |

Pastrami sandwich, vegetable pancake with apple sauce and garlic fries were absolutely delicious. We also ordered a soup with a piece of dumpling in it (don’t recall the name of the soup). I didn’t like the texture of the dumpling. But I never liked dumplings in soups to begin with, just a preference thing. However, the soup itself was flavorful and tasted like chicken noodle soup. I’m craving for some vegetable pancake with apple sauce as I’m typing this review. The place is small with very limited number of seats. I wouldn’t recommend it for parties of more than 4 unless you don’t mind sitting separately and not getting a table at the same time.

Good Food but Slow

By Alan H |

Son had the Pastrami Sandwich and wife and I shared Pastrami Platter, all food was very good and I would go again. Service was not the fastest, place is very small, but I would go again.

The meat. Quality has dropped considerably

By Allan S |

We ordered for delivery an order for Chanukah. Party. Firstly it was delivered more than. 40 minutes late. The quality of the meat was very poor. Turkey looked like it was from a rolled. Package And both pastrami and corned beef were Very fatty and full of knots. I have eaten here many times and have sandwiches delivered but never had bulk sliced meats and , bread. This will be my last time doing this.. Very Disappointed in the experience and they should be ashamed of this effort. If they do not have a good product then do not send poor substitutes.

The place to go for Pastrami Sandwich

By Harry_18_till_I_die |

With that name my expectations could never have been met, of course. But have to say, the sandwich was good. And since I am not an Italian or New Yorker, I can't say whether this was as good as the can be. Easy to find. No woman in the kitchen by the way

Huge Pastrami Sandwich!

By Bing C |

We were looking for a great pastrami sandwich this weekend and we found it at Pastrami Queen. In between seeing plays, we were hungry we found this place under a listing for best pastrami sandwiches in the theatre district. Clean, friendly staff and huge portions! You won’t be disappointed!

Very unfriendly

By Herman G |

Good food but the most unfriendly and unprofessional management i have ever encountered. For take out you can hardly get your order out. The place is small, dirty and unfriendly. Unfortunately one of the few places with decent pastrami. Will try and avoid it as being nasty to everybody seems to be the modus operandi.

What a great find!

By David22477 |

What a fantastic pastrami sandwich. We got their before the lunch rush and got a table. The waiter was super friendly. My wife enjoyed her Knish as well!

Pastrami Queen... indeed

By JorgeMei |

I was there following his Majesty's advice, the KIng, Bourdain. We used to go there for Pastrami, so why should I invent? Huge!... more than enough to share. Polite and fast people beyond the counter. Prices are decent, and the food is great. If you are into to Pastrami!

Filthy and Aweful Food

By G T |

It may be kosher, but it's absolutely filthy – both the store and the clothing of the workers. We ordered brisket on the encouragement of the “waiter”, but what was served was an excruciatingly dry, overcooked bottom round (the exact opposite end of the cow). The pastrami was no better - dry and tasteless. There is no one in the store who knows anything about deli meat, or, evidently, any form of food production or hygiene. (all low paid, immigrant workers with no experience or knowledge). The final straw was when they tried to overcharge us and demanded an large compulsory “gratuity” (“you must pay”). Avoid this disgusting tourist rip-off.

Good pastrami sandwich

Wanted a quick bite for lunch after the Met exhibit. Found Pastrami Queen while walking to the subway and decided to give it a try. Daughter and I shared a pastrami sandwich. Yummy bread and good pickles. It definitely worked for us.

Pastrami Fit For A King

By remsen |

I go here for one thing and one thing only - pastrami. Since the Carneige closed, for the best pastrami I must travel down to Katz's or head over to Pastrami Queen.

Sandwich royalty!

By john w |

Super spot for a pastrami sandwich! It’s what they do, and they do it right! It’s a small place with not a lot of seats, so be prepared to wait or come during the off hours. Worth it either way. Best part is they haven’t let their awesomeness go to their head - still friendly and eager to make it all good. Worth the trip to the Upper East Side - highly recommended!

Best Deli North of Katz's on the Upper West & East Side

By Adam L |

The best deli north of Katz Deli on Houston...so if you are on the Upper East Side or West Side go to either of their places The pastrami is excellent..cole slaw good...knishes are big and worth it...matzo ball soup very good Been many times and will go back again

My favorite Pastrami!

My favorite NY Pastrami! The sandwiches are meant to be eaten and enjoyed — not piled high for show or optics. Absolutely delicious. It’ll always be my go-to!

No need to be so rude

By wodentmom |

The counter staff at Pastrami Queen is awful!!! If they can't handle the heat GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN. This is NYC for Pete's sake. They are very put out when you order a simple sandwich! Really annoyed at the customers. I would hope the owner reads this and corrects things because they have a good thing going. We go to Pastrami Queen for the delicious pastrami and would hate to give that up do to the nasty staff. As native New Yorker, (Bronx), I am not a sensitive soul but enough is enough. This is not a cheap meal and I think the staff should have a more professional attitude.

Pastrami Royalty...

By Go569364 |

Great little place with excellent soups, sandwiches, knishes, etc. The pastrami platter was spot on...some of the best pastrami in the city, a knish, cole slaw and pickle along with some nice rye bread. It's a small place, but it has great atmosphere and excellent, friendly service. Definitely worth the wait!

Poor and Overpriced

By David K |

I was completely let down. The service was ok but not great. it took quite a while to get the waiter to arrange the bill. The sandwich was average, in fact dissapointing but they charged a top line price. Go somewhere else if you want good affordable food.

Great at doing its thing.

If you’re looking for a great pastrami sandwich- come here. It’s not fancy, there are no frills but the staff are lovely and the pastrami is top notch. Get their specialty. Pastrami sandwich with pickles on the side. No fancy extras. They’re not cheap but it is a really big portion. Two of us shared one and we were stuffed with just a half!!! If you don’t have a big appetite share one. Or get one and take the rest home. Mmmm.

Pastrami!!

Great sandwich with pea soup!! But tiny shop, So take out is probably a better option! We had the pastrami and it was delicious!

OKAY CUSTOMER

By SweetMochaTee |

Flavor and quality of food excellent but too portion control on the amount of meat on sandwich. At least at katz's and or sargi's i can make 2 sandwiches from 1. I just stick with katz's and sargi's.

Not the same complete disaster now

By Michael L |

poor service an awful food, ordered delivery. 2 sandwiches, tounge tip , corned beef and a knish. Very expensive, tounge portion was small, corned beef was very dry and little taste, bread was stale and they forgot the pickles!. I have been going there for over 20 years and something has drastically change ...Even the mustard was different!. Very disappointing

Full house on Sunday

By Ana M |

Truly the best pastrami we have had in a long, long time....the line for tables was so long, we decided to order take out and go home...it was a chilly Sunday and this pastrami made it warm back home, so well packed it was....the real thing...no cheese...just good old jewish pastrami! Highly recommended but not on peak days or hours....small seating area...but nice staff and even better food!

NO LONGER WORTH IT

By Barrett |

Have been going there for years. Generally was good and was a good value exchange even at $16. Unfortunately that is no longer the case. Pastrami was dry and lacking the usual flavor-- nothing to rate it highly, And for about $27 for a sandwich I will not return. The quality went down and they raised the price about 50%. A bad combination. Unfortunately, another NYC institution that is no longer what it used to be. Save your money and try elsewhere.

Great Deli Experience

We had pastrami sandwiches and sat in to eat them. The food itself was excellent and the staff made us feel welcome. The place looked exactly as us tourists expected it to and it was nicely bustling with plenty of customers. Definitely a great lunch spot.

Great Food, Incredibly Bad Service

By Isramerican |

First, the food is very good here. However, please be warned that they either don't answer the phone, put you on hold and forget about you or simply are so abrupt and brash that you wonder if the manager has any idea of what is going on with their customer service. I am in the service business, and simply cannot believe that this happens so often here. Yes, I know, I have still come back here - because, as mentioned, the food is good. However, I am moving on to the 2nd Ave Deli or anywhere else nearby instead of Pastrami Queen from now on.

Very nice spot, pastrami still good

By Fredman14 |

We visit with family and friends following the footsteps of the late Anthony Bourdain. It seems that they are dragging their feet a little in terms of the flavor of the pastrami. I had a pastrami sandwich. The portion was big and the flavor was good, not awesome. Maybe it was a bad day(those happen), so I will have to try again. And share it with you. Service was great. Still a must visit if you fancy pastrami and follow critiques. Enjoy!

Classic New York Kosher Deli

By Steve M |

First class deli. Nothing fancy, just a few tables to sit at. But the meat is delicious and the servings are gigantic. One sandwich or meat platter easily feeds two. Sides of cole slaw and potato salad similarly delicious. Quintessential NY deli experience. Enjoy!

Disappointing

By Steve B |

The pastrami was excellent but the sandwich was way too small (much smaller than a pastrami sandwich from 2nd Ave or Katz's) and the bread was stale. Never going back to UES location. Wolfed down the sandwich but still hungry. Very disappointing,

Good but pricy lunch

By Sam W |

For a to go lunch I ordered the open faced cornedbeef sandwich with potato salad and extra bread. The corned beef was fresh and tender and had a nice flavor. The portion was massive: enough for 2 meals. The rye bread was fresh and it had a rye flavor that perfectly complimented the corned beef. The potato salad was creamy and it had just the right amount of acid and fresh vegetables to counterbalance the soft, creamy potatoes. While it is overpriced, I would definitely recommend pastrami queen.

Very nice when in the neighborhood

By Spw91 |

Good for “Deli” in this neighborhood. Ate early Sunday afternoon with family. All you need for this type of food. Corned beef, pastrami, and so on. The UWS branch a smaller one with only about 12 tables and I’ll when we were there only one server. Prices are pretty reasonable compare to others. It’s missing some of the environment and craziness of the well known delis in other areas. Everything was delicious.

Worth the Trip

By Mike x |

Pastrami Queen is a long walk or a short cab ride from midtown, but it's worth the trip. This is real deal kosher deli. The pastrami is unequaled and that's saying something in Manhattan. Prices are high but portions are large. So, sharing is recommended. We had pastrami on rye and a plate of onion rings. Both were so good that we are still talking about it a month later. There are a few tables and it is cramped but worth the trip and the wait for a table if you don't want to do take out.

Let Down

By Karaneh A |

I just wanted the sandwich. For the $27, I expected a good sized sandwich. What a let down. The bread was very soft, not a heart rye. The sandwich was small. I went back to make sure that it was.the.regular sandwich. The flavor was ok. After all these years...what a complete let down. For the money. I.could have had a sandwich and gotten a bottle if.wine or .so disappointed

Great Pastrami sandwich

By Jnowak1205 |

My wife and I stopped here for lunch after a trip to the Met. Small place and a little pricey, but have to admit the pastrami sandwich was great. We split a sandwich and had the cole slaw and fries for the sides and it was plenty. Service was excellent as well. We will return when we’re in the area.
