Dinner

By NavyMary30 |

Terrific food, nice & friendly service. Only 2 comments - they put milk in my tea without asking first & they charge extra for bread with no notice. But we’d definitely go back!

Excellent!

By Melany S |

Took a chance and wasn’t disappointed! Food and service were fantastic. Nicely spiced, authentic, and decent sized portions.

Best Goat

By PaddleGuy007 |

I’ve been to cheap and expensive Indians in NYC and this was the best. If you call them they say u can not BYOB. So I just filled a none description coffee cup and they were verry happy The food was succulent. The okra crispy and tasty and the nann one of the best I’ve had outside India.

Expensive and Noisy

By Destination643033 |

Average food, horrible service, confused staff, rude behaviour. Think before going to this very expensive and very noisy place.

10/10 would recommend

Very nice service and amazing food! Would totally recommend!! One of the best Indian restaurants we have ever been at:)

Great food and service

By katkins1 |

The food was incredible and the staff were really friendly, providing great service. Great restaurant, would highly recommend.

Avoid at all costs!!!!!!!

By Golfer79 |

Utterly terrible! From the moment we walked in it was just a disaster. More intrested in getting you in and out. Ordered starters which were beautiful! Then they needed the us to move which is not a problem but instead of clearing the table they decided to pull th me tables apart and drop the food all over me!!!! To which his reply was "its fine it will clean up" ehhhh no it wont ruined the night! Would not recommend at all !

Excellent food and service

By The Sane Adventurer |

Stopped by Patiala for dinner and while there was a bit of a wait outside the food was worth it. Likely it seats only around 20-25 people and while I was there it was packed the whole time. I was seated by an Indian gentlemen from Pittsburgh and he said it is one of the best in New York. I had Tikka masala and it was a bit spicer than typical places it had great flavor. Fresh made naan bread complimented the meal nicely. The only thing I wish it would of had was a liquor license as a cool beer would have paired well with the slightly spicey food.

Totally overprized compared to the quality of the food

By Morten W |

We ordered two Chicken masala and Nan bread. We paid about 45$. -The Nan bread was burned. -The chicken pices wasn't well cocked. -The was rice was ok. The worst thing was that the waiter put a plate on the floor after people was finished eating. Afterwards he took the plate and put on the tray that he used serving new dishes on afterwards.

Pricey Curry fix in Downtown NewYork!

By Noureen S |

We visited NewYork city with my sister and her family. We were party of five and went to this place for dinner 🥘! We ordered chicken tikka masala, lamb saag, goat biryani and lamb quorma, lamb chops, pani puri and samosa chaat! Appetizers were yummy, chicken Tikka masala tasted like butter chicken! Lamb palak/ saag was great 👍 while the rest of the food was average! Service and presentation was great, nan bread is pricey , and Restaurant added an 18 percent tip without asking!

Great value

By Jeppy405 |

Large portion and fair pricing. Nan was fresh. Tikka Marsala and spinach veggie bowl tasted great. No over powering flavors. Mostly a take out location as seating is limited. Two nice seats with window view.

Bloody Fantastic!!!!

In town for daughters graduation, she requested Indian cuisine. Found Patiala 2 blocks from the hotel. 8 of us at the restaurant. Food was fantastic!!!! Highly recommended. Some of the best in Indian I have eaten

My fiancé who was visiting from out of country and I went to Patiala 2 days ago. We happened to be in the vicinity and after reading the amazing reviews we decided to try it. The ambiance of the restaurant was beautiful. The servers were polite and very attentive. However, it all went south. After placing our order and having received our food 20mins later, as we were eating the person in charge on that day came over specifically to our table and said, “is everything ok can we get you anything else because we need the table” as the lamp chops were in my fiancé mouth and my fork in hand still eating. He then walks away. I turned to my fiancé asking did I hear him correctly but kept eating. Our server, who was extremely sweet, I called her over and I explained to her what happened and asked if there was a problem and asked to have the young man come over. While he confirmed what I heard was correct and proceeded to say there is a ONE HOUR limit, my fiancé explained, we are still eating, we just got our food 20mins, have not even been here for an hour and there were other people there prior to our arrival that you have not approached. He said everything is okay not to worry and left. Still confused because the restaurant was not busy, there were empty seating around us, not to mention the 2nd floor was completely empty and we were the only Caribbean people there among the rest who were all Caucasian. We were definitely profiled by this man and it was not a good feeling. For any establishment to treat a customer this way regardless of their reviews is not acceptable and we were sure to let him know as we were leaving so he doesn’t make the same mistake twice. Would not be going back. And just wanted to mention the food was mediocre.

Indian food hole in the wall haven

By mamaarora |

Can't get over how good the food here was. Went with our family of 4 for a very reasonable fast food Indian meal that wasn't spicy at all yet very flavorful and extremely economical. I always struggle with Indian food out due to high amount of creams and oil, but not here! It didn't feel heavy at all but instead was very yummy!!

Excellent Indian Food

By SumitD |

We were visiting Nyc for the first time and felt like eating Indian food for dinner. Since we were living near Penn station hence decided to go to Patiala. Ordered chicken vindaloo with naan. We were told while ordering that the curry would be spicy and we agreed. The chicken vindaloo was really good probably the best we have had in the US in the past many years. The naan was soft as it should be and the service was good. All in all wouldnt mind visiting again when we come to Nyc. Also over heard many people around us who were really enjoying the food. The place is small but the food is outstanding.

Best Indian in the neighborhood!

By Caroline T |

Loved this place. As a local, I have tried many Indian restaurants but Patiala truly sticks out. We had spinach lamb and chicken korma curries. Both excellent. Complemented by excellent garlic naan. A real treat! Excellent service! The staff was remarkably attentive and kind. Great atmosphere and social distancing. Definitely going back ASAP! Thank you!

Wonderful Indian food!

By rxfiller |

Very very small restaurant ( maybe 15 tables at most ) but we went early and didn’t have to wait. Fantastic flavor and perfect serving sizes. Great service and you could tell that the owner or manager really cared about your satisfaction. We will definitely be back!!!

Truly delicious

By RadhaHarish B |

I stayed at The New Yorker during my 30-day trip to NYC. As an Indian food lover, I was searching for a good Indian restaurant and came across Patiala Indian Grill in Manhattan. I absolutely loved the way they prepare their dishes—truly delicious! Don’t miss it if you’re visiting Manhattan.

Fab Friday Vibes and Great food

By Chirpy |

Authentic flavors of Indian home cooking. Extensive menu including Jain and Vegan food. Cocktails were fun and looked beautiful. We ordered samosas that were served freshly fried and with flaky casings… clearly handmade and not frozen. Galouti kababs were served on tiny parathas making them easy to share and eat… also delicious! Gobhi appetizer was fab. The mutton biriyani came with the purdah fanfare of cutting away the dough seal to reveal the steaming dish. Butter chicken and Kurkuri Bhindi were also outstanding. You know you’re in the right place when parties of Indian clients ask for to-go boxes to take him the left overs…And the reviewer ate the food forgetting to take photos!

Loved this place!

By WiseManTravels |

Tiny place with only 10 2-top tables right on 34th street. Nepalese flavor. Awesome biryanis and Muhr saag with saffron to die for. Knowledgeable foodies and cool dudes. Know their stuff. The real deal. Great service too.

Excellent food and an awesome service

By Ro19 |

We stayed in New York for 2 days and ordered delivery from this place. The person who handled our requests both days was extremely warm. The food was delivered in less than half hour and was delicious! The Veg and Paneer biryani were yummy! They also gave us Kheer and Yogurt on the house on the both days. I will make sure to visit them on my next trip. Keep up the good work!

Best Indian in the city

By Tory C |

Last week, my mom, my aunt and I had been shopping all day for a wedding dress and were tired and hungry. After a little research I decided on Patilia because I was in the mood for pani puri. The pani puri was fantastic- spicy, salty, crispy. We also had the butter chicken, and the lamb raganjosh, both were perfectly spiced and the meat was tender and delicious. The mango lassi was perfect and the naan was made from scratch. I’ll go back to Patilia every time I visit New York City. We got here early, around 5 and when we left at 6 the place was packed. Definitely recommend!

Arrogance Sent Me Elsewhere

By Bill M |

Food is great but expensive. Atmosphere OK during a couple of visits, but I much prefer takeout as I live a block away from both Patialas (the original is close by at 34th St/9th Ave). Arrogantly, they refuse to take phone orders, while I want to talk to someone on-site who'll tell me how long it will take, so I can get in and out with a minium of waiting around. (Sorry, but the standard and ALWAYS inaccurate "10 to 20 minutes" is never helpful.) On top of that, the online menu is a clumsy, poorly designed sprawl that pushes DoorDash and doesn’t allow for personal pickup. So, yes, the food's good--but not THAT good. A little more respect for the customer, please.

Wife Loved It

By mauiwolf |

This was a small cafe that we managed to sneak into. My wife absolutely loved her tikka Masala. My lamb curry was filled with meat chunks and was very filling. We ordered rice and naan. Loved it. I have come to the conclusion that I’m not an Indian food person. The quality and taste of what we had was outstanding, but I wasn’t excited about it and my wife loved every bite. It seems that the only Indian food I’m ever really excited about eating is the naan.

😋😇

By J E |

We are from Germany and it’s our first time in New York City. We walked by and found the Restaurant. It‘s a authentic and cozy place to spend your evening. Very delicious food, I liked the Malai Kofta :) The service is great. Very friendly people and we definitely would go a second time. *Just be careful with the spice ;)

dissapointed

By Arlene T |

The first visit was late last year, the food was great. However, I am underwhelm by the food today. the chicken curry is salty, and it is missing the favorable Indian spices. I' m disappointed because I was looking forward to that taste I had on my first visit.

Excellent food

By I_love_MN_dot_com |

Right from appetizer (Samosa) to entree and masala chai. The food was excellent. I have had Indian food in multiple places including Chicago, Dallas, Minneapolis, San Francisco but the food here was the best. My kids (who are not that fond of Indian food) rated this food as the best Indian food they ever had in their entire life (including in India). They told that they could come to NYC just for this food. We took samosas, Paneer Makhani, Vegetable Chetinad, Laccha paratha, Garlic naan and vegetable biryani. The waiters were very friendly. As we were starving, we asked for extra basmati rice twice and they gave without any hesitation.

Awesome!

By LineWlt |

We were 6 and we had 2 waiters. The food and beverages arrived really quickly and it was delicious. They even offered us extra naans! Our waiters would come and pour water in our glasses each time it was empty, they were really attentive and nice! I highly recommend this restaurant will go again if I have the chance to come back to NYC!

Highly recommended

By Richard F |

Great flavour .. super service .. very much a return visit is on the cards Certainly a must for anyone wanting an authentic flavourful experience

Fabulous lunch

By Loskr |

This is a fabulous place with an authentic Indian cuisine for a quick, low-cost and filling lunch. Recommended.

Great Indian Food. Must eat.

By vimalrajm |

Nice small restaurant. It is next to B&H super store. They have good variety of Indian foods in their menu. I had chicken rice couple of times and it was really good. They have a small high stool seating arrangements on two sides. Though it is small, it is adequate.

So good we came back 2 days running!

By carwads |

So good we came back 2 days running! Visited with a couple of colleagues from India who loved it too. Food was very fresh and authentic and friendly service. A hidden gem! Try it!

What a great find on 34th street!

By C M P |

Tiny place, 7 stools mostly for take away. Fresh home made Indian food. Delicious and inexpensive. I would be back. Across the street from b&h!

never again

By KHM |

My husband and I ordered this as takeout and were really looking forward to the meal. It was inedible. Truly inedible. Kurma was so salty that it wasn't palatable and there was no flavor other than salt. My husband ordered the chicken chettinad, which lacked a lot of the flavor this traditional dish is supposed to have. The chaat was room temperature... neither warm nor cold, but the flavor was good. I would never go back again. Very disappointing.

Authentic Indian Restaurant.

By Bhushan Timla |

Modern eatery with classic Indian dishes at primary location just few minutes walk from Penn Station. I've met my childhood friend that day, and have to had nice time with good food, so we came to Patiala upon google's recommendation and it was beyond our expectations. The dishes were excellent - got one of the tastiest grilled chicken i have ever eaten. The garlic naan was also good. The interiors are fine, but it was little noisy. The waiters were very attentive and courteous.

Neat restaurant with very tasty food

By Deniz E. |

We came to Patiala upon recommendation and it was beyond our expecations. The Murgh Malai Kebab was excellent - it could easily be one of the tastiest grilled chicken i have ever eaten, if not the best. The garlic naan and samosa were also very very good. Special thanks to Mr. Tarik for his friendly service and kind help on choosing the right dish for my daughter.

Very good food, excellent service!

By travelandseek |

This was our first evening meal in NYC and we were very happy. The staff were efficient, friendly, and very attentive. We shared an appetizer, their signature Patiala lamb dish, rice, nan and 2 desserts; sharing wasn't a problem. The food was hot and the curry was perfect. My wife is originally from India and was very pleased with everything, especially that the lamb was tender. Wish we could have had a beer with the Samosa Chaat! They have indoor and outdoor seating and both were very busy for a Monday night. Seems like this is a place for locals with perhaps a few tourists like us. It's small but most restaurants in NYC seem to be so far.

DISGUSTING PLACE TO BE IN

By Sara A |

Went in for the first time there, there was construction while we eat. The restaurant is over heated. Disgusting smell. Came back 2 days after, was very bad service, construction guys in and out while we eat. The food isn't cover from the construction work. That's where we were eating the bread from. And not covered.

Guaranteed good food

By prasanth g |

Tried twice in a span of 4 days. We were staying in a hotel close to this restaurant. One day we dined in and the second time ordered to go. On both occasions the food was quite good. The service was extremely good, welcoming and pleasant. For dining in the space is a bit of constraint as the space is insufficient to accommodate 18 pax. overall a good experience.

Lots of vegetarian & vegan options at affordable Indian NYC spot

By pogachels |

We visited Patiala on a Saturday evening with friends visiting from out of town. It was an easy walk from Penn Station to this Indian spot. We were seated before our dinner companions arrived which was great. There were many vegetarian and vegan options which was great for our group though there are plenty of meat options as well. The naan was very tasty and all of our dishes were very flavorful. The prices were affordable for the location, though everything was a la carte and rice and naan had to be ordered separately from the entrees.

Amazing food

By Shoaib_Akhter |

Amazing tasting food shall visit again soon whenever Iam in New York and its halal so that's a double plus for me...

Great little Indian

By anthony t |

What I loved about this place was the fact that the dishes are already prepared so you can walk in and be eating a delicious curry in no time. I had spicy lamb, spinach with cheese and lentils. All delicious. The server warned me the lamb was spicy and it was but there are also mild options.

Del.Indian food , best to go suggested

By US-408 |

Wanted to eat Indian food fast stating in NYC for 5 days and found this place . This place is get small seating area and bulk of order seems to get to go . We had saag and chicken and dahi with fish fry All mouth watering ! Next time we visit NYC we will definitely get to go from this place !

Hidden Gem! Just brilliant

By Poetrypls |

This place has so few tables but deserves to have a full restaurant size - what is it that manhattans don’t appreciate what is right here? The guys have a main business in take-away it seems but the food is top class and we ate here for a change from US oversized portions of Italian or grills- proper quality food prepared with care and flavour as good as the best in Europe right here in Manhattan - well done guys- wish to well!

Good, good

By Phil G |

Good food. Good service. Went at lunch. Place was busy, busy. Lots of takeout. We were able to get a table. Had chicken tandoori, chicken tika masala, black daal and yogurt. Great flavors. Only drawback is price—it’s expensive. But for good food and good service, worth it.

Delicious!!

By SH31DK |

Small place with only a few tables. Not a big fancy restaurant but it is a restaurant (not a fast food). The manager made us most welcome and took care to discuss the menu options. Food was excellent, freshly made, so tasty and loved the spices and flavors. Just what we wanted. If I want Indian food again in Manhattan I’ll certainly go there again.

Good neighborhood Indian place

By Jennifer S |

Service was friendly and good. Large menu with diverse items. Good chicken tikka masala and dal makhani. I would go back.

5*

By Daniel |

Really authentic food, everything was perfect! The staff is very friendly and attentive. Lamb and shrimps curry with garlic naan and mango lassi, the perfect match!

Awesome take-out

By Brian J |

The lunch boxes are awesome! Choose from lamb or chicken and a vegetable side. Their veggie sides are incredible. My favs are the spinach with tofu and the cauliflower. Everything is very tasty!

A gem of a drop in

By PeteJeffs |

We had been shopping down the street and it started to rain heavily so we popped in the for an early dinner. It was a joy. The staff were very friendly, the food was fabulous and very reasonable. The lamb in the curry fell apart in my mouth.

Pleasantly surprised

By Riestis |

Small but cozy Indian restaurant in the heart of New York. Lots of choice and authentic Indian flavours. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Indian cusine in NY like Índia!

By Cristina F |

I love Indian food! I taste different Indian restaurants, and Patiala is one of the best of Manhattan! Little, friendly and tastey! They don't Make pappad Masala, but they have a delicious palak paneer or nann ....mmmm...yummy! If u have time you need to go there! Bon appetit! namaste

Right across from B&H, actually stumbled into this place. We sat done and very helped right away. Really good food here and great service! So if you are craving for some really good Indian food then check this one out.

Who would think . . .

By Kitty272727 |

With only a few tables indoors and even fewer “covid shack” additional tables, barely any décor, dark even in daylight, this unassuming place has truly authentic, complex Indian cuisine. We started with bhajis that were lightly fried, crisp, and not mealy. Then a lamb Madras had a sauce with little bits of spices that showed how really complex it was. My chicken vindaloo was “fiery” but with a fast rather than slow burn, attenuated by a few potato chunks and a yogurt sauce. It was perfect. We also had aloo paratha that scooped up sauces nicely. The wait staff was attentive, warning about the hotness of vindaloo, and making sure we had lots of water. We plan to return soon.

Great Place!!

By Douglas T |

Very attentive servers and excellent Tandoor Chicken!! The $$$ is a huge plus, very reasonable... I highly recommend!!

Tasty

By uli1 |

Quick late lunch $11.- had the tofu paneer over rice with a very tasty fresh naan bread..overall very good friendly staff

Soooo gooood!!!

By Christina P |

Visiting our son in NYC and looking for a place close to our hotel - the stars were obviously aligned - tiny restaurant, but excellent service, phenomenal food and fabulous atmosphere! LoveLoveLoved it!!!

Good for a quick lunch

By soumya s |

I have tried the veg combo and usually add the boiled egg curry as a side. The combo costs close to $10. They have two flavors of rice and I always go for the colored veg rice. The turmeric added to the rice sometimes tastes raw. And the ladyfinger curry also is more slimy than crispy which could be improved. Their Roti and Naan both are so soft and tastes good. Otherwise the combo is more than enough for a quick lunch.

Excellent curry

By Christian |

Excellent curry dishes. We tried three different ones with rice and freshly baked naan bread. Missed a cold beer with the meal though. No alcohol is served.

Great service and food

By juliocD1812GR |

Food came fast, waiter was really polite. Amazing taste. Tried the chickpea plate. They have a great and affordable lunch menu.

Allergy friendly

Allergic to milk and had one of the vegan options. Tasted amazing! Large portions and friendly staff👌🏻

Patiala review

By Ruchi D |

Great spot and amazing food ! The manager Tariq was great and provides us with great service! Would definitely go back

Crazy good

By Denise C |

I probably would never have considered this place or even have known it existed if it was not recommended. The lamb was really good. If you are like me on 1st glance at the spinach you may want to pass but I am so glad I didn't. Everything I ordered was seriously good and I love the fact that it was not expensive at all. The only drawback to this venue is that it doesn't have seating. Despite that, I will definitely be a repeat customer.

Great, little spot!

By ChrisFromNJ |

We stopped by for lunch after visiting B&H Photo - what a great surprise! While the restaurant is tiny and plain, the food was wonderful. We had a curried chicken dish and lamb biriani. Both were excellent!

Exceptional experience - top notch food, atmosphere and service

By Imacanuck |

I was looking for a new Indian restaurant to try in NYC near my hotel, and I came across Patiala, which was nearby. This review is for their 240 W35th Street location. I had a marvelous dinner of lamb roganjosh with exceptional service. They aim to please and definitely want you to come back. It is an upscale place and you will pay a bit more for everything, but the taste, atmosphere and service are all worth it. I will definitely come back on another trip.

Amazingly authentic and brilliant Goat Curry.

By Bhasker N |

I normally don't go to Indian Restaurants but went there for dinner on a Saturday night as it was close to the hotel. It is a small place and despite booking we had to wait 20 minutes before we could get a table. However, it was worth the wait as I had the Goat Vindaloo and it is without a doubt the best I have had at any restaurant. They didn't hold back on the spice and the curry was super rich and tasty. You know it's authentic when it is bone in. They don't serve alcohol but are cool for you to BYOB.

Good food, very bad service

By Abbie Stephenson |

Disappointed with the overall experience. This establishment clearly take on more than they can handle… firstly, the place was too cramped I couldn’t even use my knife and fork without elbowing the person (from a different party) on the table next to me. As well as the in house orders, they were taking take away orders and as a result of this we were delivered half of our starters to our table but we were without the other half of our starters for 20 minutes. We ordered 2 naan with our main & only received one.m, we told the staff about this twice for them not to bring it out and add it to our final bill. Secondly, the staff were incredibly rude -

Delicious Indian Cuisine

By jlw0lf |

Ordered takeout from Patiala and were not disappointed. It remined us of the meals we ate when we were traveling in India. The dishes were spicy, without being overpowering.

surprisingly great on 34th

By rz1519 |

i was not sure what to expect. it's a small place off 34th street and does not look fancy. why not, right? well dont let looks deceive you, the food in this place was amazing, better than some fancy places in nyc. the nan was fresh and cooked from a real oven, perfectly baked. spice on the food tasted incredible (not 'indian hot,' but i am sure they can crank it up) and the people were really nice. ashock was so helpful explaining what the different types of food were. i saw things here i dont really see in the other places. it is now on my 'must go to place' whenever i am near b&h.

High quality food.

By Srinivasa C |

Every item is made to high quality. Though space is small food quality is impeccable. Our entire family thoroughly enjoyed the meals.

Good food and good people

By Lee W |

Good food, reasonable prices, good service. We ate in, starting at 12:15 PM on a weekday, which wass fine until about 12:45, when it got crowded with people waiting for takeout. It's not a big place. So if you want to go at regular lunch hour, make a reservation, and be prepared to have people standing right next to where you are sitting. It's worth it. I also have to thank the staff for their honesty and integrity. I left my credit card there and didn't figure it out for 3 days. They had the credit card stashed in a safe place, and they asked for my id when I came to retrieve it, which is everything a careless consumer can ask for.

Indian food at its best.

By Kevin J F |

Absolutely incredible meal , our first meal on our first visit to NYC , the rest of the trip has a lot to live up to after this meal. I has Chicken Tikka Massala and my wife had the Vegetarian Korma , food and service both top class.

Excellent food and experience

By Mangoroni |

We had korma chicken and aloo gobi with garlic naan and it was excellent. Very small dining area but they make it work. Polite service. Food is beautiful and so tasty. Highly recommend!

Great Indian food on West 34th..

By mcbee166 |

This was a great find on our recent NYC trip (June 21st 2023). Excellent food and great service. We had Chicken Chettinad and Tikka Masala. It was really good and was good value for NYC. Great textures and flavor with just the right amount of spice especially if you are used to UK or Indian heat levels. 2 portions of rice and 2 nans were more than enough for the four of us. It's popular for a reason and we were happy to have waited a few minutes outside to get a table. It's not a large restaurant but has a good atmosphere. Will definitely be dropping in again later in the year. Thanks to Tariq and the staff.

Upset stomachs

By Sonia |

Last minute decision to go after finding on trip adviser near our hotel. All other meals booked in advance. After being seated we were asked to move to accommodate a larger group. We were then given a picnic table we couldn't get our legs under, so they changed table. Meal was tasty but unfortunately 2 of the 4 of us had very poorly tummies the next day and had to go to chemist for meds. We regularly eat Indian and have never suffered this issue previously.

20 on 10

By Hungryghost7 |

Came back after 4 years and this place is as good as it was then. Delhi chaat was delectable and the chicken tikka is to die for. The Patiala chicken curry was outstanding too even though the chicken pieces were a bit over cooked. Overall still a 20/10

Very enjoyable

By CA |

Small cafe type restaurant. We were in NYC for 4 nights and ate there twice and we really enjoyed it. Excellent quick no fuss service. Bring your own beer or wine if you want a drink. First time we tried the tikka masala. It was tasty but didn't taste like we have at home in the UK. Second occasion we had the chicken with coconut ( can't remember the name) and it was delicious. Plenty of chicken on both occasions although we did ask for a little more rice. We are back in NY for the final 2 nights of our holiday and will go again tomorrow. I'm unable to use the ratings at the bottom of this review so will, write here. Service - 5* Food 4* Price 4*

Excellent

By Juan C |

The food was really tasty, good service and recommendations from the staff were excellent. My wife and I recommended a 100%.

Authentic Indian Fare

By amjs13501 |

Was looking for a good lunch quickly while near the Javits Center. Patiala served a wide array of Indian cuisine and featured a lunch special that paired an entree with vegetables and bread for around $9. The food was fast and flavorful, including bread that was rolled out and baked to order. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Food Poisoning

By ukinny |

Nice decor, but a few hours after eating here I got severe food poisoning. management was utterly indifferent, so eater-beware!

Average Food

By rochakm11 |

Small crowded restaurant. Not very clean. We were seated next to billing counter. Food was quite average. Paneer tikka was marinated with some sweet sauce and tasted bad. Overall food was pricey and taste wasn't worth the money. Not a great place to be for north Indian food.

Looking good outside and tasty was good but...

By Sassuliini |

Restaurant was small and look good. They put us sitting right next to cashier. First thing what i dont like. Would be nice to sit Window table but both was "reservation" for no reason. Monday lunch time. Second thing what i didn't like. Tabel was small and stuff was much. Our souce taste good, but i have just 4 piece of chicken and my BF was 3 piece. Third thing what i didn't like. Water was warm and that was fourth thing. Tasty was good. Enought spicy for me, but for someone else it might be too spicy...

Wonderful service and amazing food

By Jessica R |

We happened upon this place just because it was close to our hotel...it ended up being such a treat! Fantastic food, thanks to the recommendations of our waiter.

Basic , no frills, and delicious authentic Indian fare!

By Sharkiemark |

Great takeout prepared quickly and with care. Hot, spicy, and hits the spot! When you need delicious Indian takeout - do not miss this spot. Portions are generous and the prices are fair for midtown Manhattan.

Best Indian food I've ever tasted!

By sianr |

We were tired and hungry and just happened to be passing this little place having walked from the High Line. My daughter and I chose and shared a Chicken Box which included chicken tikka, 1 vegetable side dish, daal, rice and nan, all for $8! Bargain!! There are different boxes to choose from; from vegan to lamb vindaloo, which do not exceed $9. The menu also offers a typical selection of main dishes and rice and side dishes you would find in an Indian takeaway in the UK, the most expensive such as a lamb rogan josh at just $11. We ate in as there were a couple of empty stools which had just been vacated [there are only a few stools available] at no extra charge- no tax and no gratuity [which is unusual in NYC]. What a find. Excellent value and lovely food.

Great for food before Bolt Bus

Nice lunch specials. Thought it was a ton of food for the money! The guys were super sweet working there. The Chicken Tikka Masala was to die for! Would def return again on my home to DC!

Good food, but manager was rude and lied about the waiting time

By aviaak |

Food is great at this place…BUT you cannot make reservations and so when we arrived, we were told waiting time is 40mins. We waited 90mins. Food came quickly and was delicious but when we came to paying, manager was so rude when we tried to pay by card. We’ll never come back again, it ruined the evening !

Absolutely delicious.

By dgurewitz |

Just delicious. Fresh chicken, fresh veggies, wonderful sauces. We had to wait in line—and would happily do so again. Largely Indian clientele.

Fast Indian food

By vladdad |

Small place with great freshly prepared Indian food. Very affordable, with lunch-dinner specials. Friendly staff.

Authentic Indian food, I loved it!

By johanna |

Delicious!!!! And the service is very good, very friendly, the price for being in NYC is fair, I would say cheap! I will definitely repeat

Cheryl Benson

By Cheryl B |

My husband and I went here last night and I will say the food was really nice, the service however was beyond belief!! We ordered starters (onion bhaji) they were really good but before I had even gotten half way through the waiter came with my main course!!!! I explained I had not finished my starters but he wanted to take my Plate away in the end I gave it to him and just ate my starter alongside my main. When the bill came they had added service charge and when I explained I did not want to pay a charge for service that was sub standard the owner approached me and made me feel extremely intimidated I insisted the service charge was removed which he eventually did but I must say this spoiled my experience and I would never go there again

Superb!

Visited this restaurant a few days into our family trip to NY. Great little restaurant with extremely polite and attentive staff and really lovely food. A proper gem! Do note that they don’t serve alcohol!

Delicious authentic Indian cuisine

By maimouna |

Five stars for the food. We ordered Dahl, chicken tikka masala, lamb korma, rice and butter naan. Every single dish was delicious. Portion size was perfect for the three of us. Also, the prices for each dish were reasonable. The restaurant is small but we only had to wait for ten minutes for a table at 7pm. The music was a bit too loud but it added to the overall ambiance as it was Indian music and not Western contemporary noise. Mr. Tariq welcomed us and was a very gracious host. We will absolutely return to this fine restaurant whenever we are in New York.

Is tomorrow too soon to return?

By Mar W |

The decor is as lovely as the food is delicious! Our server, Shalini, was amazing, friendly and kind! She gave great recommendations and everything she suggested was worth it! The Lamb Korma (minimum spice) and Fish Chettinad (nicely spicy) were fantastic! I had one of the best Laccha Paratha I've ever had since going to India and tried Butter Naan for the first time! Great ambiance! Nice vibe and space for conversation. I've now claimed a table as my own because I will definitely be back! Thanks Patiala for a great meal and evening! Highly recommend.

My best experience for my first time in time square

By Climber65583830709 |

Great food great ambiance and to top it off the service best my server Shalini was great very attentive and courteous. It's in the heart of the city very close to times square

Value for Good food & money!!

Great location near Penn Station hotels. Average waiting time. FOOD GOOD. Taste is Indian, … served fast, together & fresh even when they are rushing to maximize customer turnover. Value for money!!

Scrumptious Indian cuisine

By Anne-Marie D |

The place is tiny and unpretentious. But forget about size and style: this Indian grill is a little gem not to be missed right opposite the NYC photography and video equipment Mecca that is B&H. Best PaniPuri, yummy Naan, delicious Chicken Tikka, tangy Chana Masala ... all served with gracious smiles and attention by the owner and staff. While we were enjoying our lunch, we noticed those 2 undisputed signs of excellence that build the good reputation of an Indian restaurant: the room was packed with Indian patrons enjoying their own national cuisine while the line of patrons waiting outside to get in was getting longer and longer. Patiala, we love your food!

Great fast indian cuisine

By merrillma |

Walked here for a quick, late lunch after settling into our hotel. The food was very good and the naan was made fresh for us. I like how quick it was, because we were on our way to a museum. It was warm inside, with very little seating. We sat at the bar area, near the fan, so we could keep a little cool. I really enjoyed the samosas.

Very expensive, staff constantly trying to up-charge, food was tasty

By 907blaked |

We were a little disappointed in our experience here. The staff made every effort to up-charge us on everything, ranging from water (bottled versus tap) to the food (trying to get us to order more naan and rice than we needed). Before we realized it, our family of 5 was given 2 bottles of water (at $10 each!), before switching to tap water. Then, when we ordered the food, we had to tell them multiple times that the amount of food we were ordering was sufficient, and we didn't need everything they kept trying to get us to order (extra naan, extra rice, more appetizers). (It's not like we skimped - we ended up spending $225 for our family of 5.) It was also very annoying that rice was not included with any of the meals, meaning we had to order (and pay for) that separately. And finally, the portions were relatively small, given the high prices. All in all, although the food tasted good, we just didn't really enjoy our experience here.

Small but nice, a 10 minute wait can become 20 minutes

By gogogoAmsterdam |

They don't have a problem if you want to share a main course. The taste of the Malai Kofta was excellent. And the dessert Gulub Jamun was delicious. It is true that you are looked away when you have finished eating because there are a lot of people waiting outside who have all been told: 10 minutes. It gets quieter after 8:30 PM. The owner is passionate about the business.

Authentic

By AKumar427 |

Food is authentic but spicy. We were not asked how spicy we wanted the curries to be. It’s a hole in the wall near Penn station. Every time the door opens it gets cold. Service was reasonable but not outstanding.

Great find! English Curry Standards !

By Steve M |

I would never claim to be an expert but I eat a curry pretty much four times a month back in England and I would say this restaurant certainly matches many, if not out does, a number of English Indian restaurants I've eaten at. Friendly staff great lunchtime menu/cost.

Great take out and even a tiny counter for "drop ins."

By Jane W |

If you're wandering around NYC, near Penn Station or heading back from a Broadway play, this is a great place to grab a bite. I walked by this clean and pleasant hole-in-the wall and we stopped for dinner. HUGE portions, delicious and fresh Indian food and RIDICULOUSLY cheap. Nice owner and service. The do take out but they had a tiny counter that had 3 stools and we ate there. LOVED it!

Good food with lots of options

By Allan |

We ate there while in town on business. It's very small; 10 tables. They don't serve alcohol, but I believe it is BYOB (which can be nice, reducing the cost of dinner!). The menu is great, with whole sections devoted to "vegan" and "vegetarian" options. The staff was friendly and helpful. Although traditional, they have an interesting perspective of the influence of the British rule on Indian cooking. It's worth trying. We'll go back.

Excellent

By Coullie1 |

Very snug and personal. Very attentive staff. Great food. Very tasty. Good portions Reasonable prices. Would recommend to anyone.

Delicious meal

By Laura M |

Fabulous food - warm and friendly waitstaff. This tiny restaurant is a gem. We stayed at the New a Yorker and it’s right around the corner. The Gobi with cauliflower was my favorite my sisters both loved the Murgh Saag and the Raganjosh. I did, too but cauliflower was delicious. Mango lassi also was delightful. We recommend this restaurant highly.

Awesome lunch close to Javits

By SandiW063 |

Stopped on my way from Penn Station to Javits and WOW! We had an incredible meal in this small, fairly new looking spot. Loved the roti, papadan, the cauliflower appetizer - everything was great! The portions were good and the service was outstanding.

A must on the way to The Edge

By 700familyk |

We met this Place by accident today. Very small, very tight sitting but an excellent place for lunch. We started with mango lassi which was already at best Indian Level. Next the lental soup on coconut base - much better than the ordinary ones you get elsewhere. As mains we selected lamb, chicken and vegetarian dish following chef‘s recommendation. Tasted very good. Space level met exactly which was described.

Great spot with great service!

By Alex Robin |

Great spot with great service! Tiny, homey restaurant with great curry options, large quantities, and awesome naan!

excellent and friendly

By Julius P |

Excellent food Excelent service Very friendly and with humor Very helpful to organize a table, because the restaurant ist small and it was well stuffed. Family atmosphere

Very good, little pearl

By martina m |

Outstanding in taste. I put 4 stars just because really small, dark and alas, given the narrowness of the place, tend to accelerate the continuous turnover of guests

Busy, busy, busy!

By Trencherman |

Ate in for a lunch special, cost $16 which included rice, nan bread, a lentil dish and a main meal. Other people waiting for tables and lots of take out collected. Good buzz and very tasty food.

Great food, great quality

By BoardingPass826429 |

Visiting NYC for the first time ever….. and advised the US don’t do ‘Indian food’ I was very impressed. Coming from a UK background and used to ‘British Indian Restaurant’ style, this was different but extremely tasty with great quality meat for a non vegetarian. Well worth it.

Insult to a Customer

By samcho |

I had visited the 35th street outlet of this restaurant today. Ironically I was sent there by their own 34th street outlet person. I had gone there to have a cup of Masala Tea. The girl name SHRIYA who was at the restaurant counter took my order and asked me to pay upfront (fine dining restaurants ask for the payments after the meal is taken and not before). After I had paid and asked for a seat, she said that the seat is not available and the cup of tea is only for take away. There were empty seats in the restaurant at that time. Perhaps she dealt with me in this manner as my order was only for a cup of tea. Feeling insulted, I no longer wanted to have that cup of tea and asked her to refund the money. She called the kitchen to ensure that the tea was not prepared and told the kitchen guys that the customer is fighting with her. She did cancel the order and refunded the money. The person had no regrets about her behaviour though. There is no shortage of Indian fine dining restaurants in New York and I dont see any reason for going back to this restaurant who believes in insulting their customers.

WORST SERVICE, Especially the woman in the front desk

By Sunshine18090802732 |

***** WORST RESTAURANT AND SERVICE EVER EXPERIENCED!!!!! *****I want to give negative ratings to this place because today, I went for takeout and ordered paneer biryani and they gave me chicken. I’m a vegetarian and I paid $28 for that, which I had to throw away. This is unacceptable, and when I called them, the lady who took my order didn’t even apologize and said it is my fault. And blamed me for everything. I’m giving -100 for the service and food. I’m attaching photos for reference and proof!!!!!! They refused to give refund or any help.

Had a great dinner greately helped by our server Aniket R who went out of his way to help. Looking forward to seeing you very soon!

This place gives Indian food a bad name

By reginalampert |

I have tried their vegetable samosas on occasion, and they weren't awful, so I decided to try one of their lunch specials that they call a "box".It cost $8.50 plus tax=$9.34. I had the vegetarian version. I got to choose two vegetable dishes(from around 4 choices), choose a rice(from two choices) and choose either pinto beans or dal (lentils). I chose the palaak (spinach, which for some reason was missing its usual foil, the paneer (cubes of mild cheese), and a potato/eggplant combo dish, along with the colorful rice and the dal. It comes with naan--(bread). The naan was the best part of the meal--large, pillowy bread to soak up sauce. The spinach, potato, eggplant, daal and rice had very little discernable flavor--certainly nothing perfumed and distinctive, the way tasty Indian food has. Where are the spices that this cuisine is known for? Totally missing today, that's for sure. Also missing was salt and pepper. So disappointing--it tasted like baby food. I will never subject myself to this food again. I asked (before I tasted everything) if they ever served Malai Kofta, my favorite dish, as part of the lunch special, and was told no. That alone would have cost me $12.95 plus tax, and based on what food I was served today, would have been devoid of flavor as well. No thanks.

Excellent address

Delicious and plentiful Indian restaurant. Very friendly staff. Located near empire state building I recommend.

Excellent Food and Service!

By Ana Loo E |

We placed a large catering order of Biryani. The service and food were excellent! Professional packaging and wrapping, on time seamless delivery. Everyone was raving about the how delicious the food was! Thank you Srinivas for everything! We will be back!

Awesome food and great location

By smithbethany1820 |

The food was absolutely delicious. Loved the mutter panner curry that came along with the rice. Also, the staff were very friendly. It's a must go restaurant in manhattan if you are looking for Indian food.

Excellent Indian Food!!

By DF |

Our small group of three from Ireland visited Patiala Restaurant three times last week. The food was absolutely delicious and we had a wonderful time on each occasion. Tariq and his colleagues were most friendly, helpful and efficient, and looked after us very well. We had a variety of lamb dishes (saag, makhani, madras, biriyani, roganjosh and the special Patiala curry dish), all very clean on the palate and amazing flavours. Patiala Kheer rice pudding dessert was also lovely (which he gave us on the house and we bought another) – so addictive! Many thanks to Tariq and his colleagues for everything. Definitely a great experience on all three occasions.

So glad we stumbled upon this restaurant

By Cathy B |

We were craving Indian food and stopped here on the way to catch our train back to CT. So very, very, happy we did. My daughter is a vegetarian and was over the moon with all the items from which she could choose (she picked the Paneer Butter Masala) and loved it. Brought the extra home with her for lunch the next day. I wasn't that hungry, so I tried something new - Palak Patta Chaat. It was so good, we wouldn't let the waitstaff take away the dish until we mopped up every last bit with our naan. Something to note, this restaurant follows the British tradition of only giving you rice, various sauces, etc. if you order it. Service was quick and friendly.

Good food

By Sweta K |

Went to patiala for dinner and must say it is a lovely place serving good food. The service was excellent and the place was kept clean. Must try the gulab jamuns

Good decently priced Indian Food

By skivrmt |

Very small space in a cozy setting. Attentive staff, quick service, quick food. Not the cheapest Indian food around, but everything we ordered was excellent. Maybe not a good or cheap as Bengal Tiger, but right up there!

Dirty place, found hair in our order! Poor service.

By worldcitizengirl |

The tiny hole in the wall place with just 7 bar stools and narrow counter didn't matter, neither did the fact that there's no public restroom. However, what did matter was discovering a chunk, yes a chunk of black thick hair in one of our orders! I immediately showed this to the 2 women working there at the time who didn't so much as apologize. They simply asked if we would like to change the order! Disgusting. I insisted to speak to the owner/manager, who of course wasn't there at the time. I wrote letters and even tried calling the manager who never bothered returning my call. Needless to say, I won't bother returning. Stay away!

Super

By Paolo S |

Suuuuper vero very special and cheap Quality end courtesy are special! Next time in New York will return to this restaurant! Special i like

Very authentic restaurant

By Isa |

Small and cuddly location. Eleven tables for two. The waiters are very attentive. There is water in the brass cup and no alcohol. The food was awesome. By New York standards, it was “favourable.”

Excellent lunch special

By Ateret H |

Came here by chance when looking for something decent to eat in the area (after shopping at b&h - duh!) and was pleasantly surprised to find such tasty authentic Indian food and kind service. I told the waiter I couldn't eat dairy and he was very helpful and and accommodating. If you visited India and miss the food, or if you just love Indian cuisine - do yourself a favor and eat here! Especially if your in the area. Namaste!

Fantastic!

By Brittney0824 |

Have never had the courage to try dishes outside of the norm at Indian restaurants but every recommendation given by the wonderful wait staff has been absolutely delicious. The Chicken 65 as an appetizer is a must try and every lamb dish melts in your mouth. BYOB is a plus as well.

Yummy in Every Way!

By Rae W |

The staff was friendly and took our orders immediately. Then, they gave us a free appetizer that was delicious. (We have no idea what it was.) Our lunch of curry and chicken tikka masala was so yummy we inhaled our food. Then, they brought us a complementary dessert. It was warm with carrots and maybe ginger. We were too full to finish it, but we took several tasty bites!

Amazing culinary Delight the Best Indian Cuisine

By Rajesh S |

It is the best Indian food restaurant I have been to in and around Manhattan and beats all claims hands down .. Chef is from India which is a big Plus and their Chettinad dishes beat some of the best restaurants claiming to serve Andhra food and whether it is a plain Tarka Daal or Any of the Goat meat preparation especially the Goat curry is as original as it can be and any foodie knows what it is to cook mutton without the smell .. it’s 10/10 .. Plenty of vegetarian option and if you just happen to miss Delhi street food well straight out Of Chandni Chowk is the Paapri Chaat and Golgappe .. Paneer dishes are very very delicious and need to get back again to update on more dishes after all how much can you cover in just two successive visits and yeah don’t forget to try Gajar ka Halwa it’s awesome.. felling homesick well give yourself a Patiala treat after a Patiala drink ..🥃🍽.

No wine

By ExcelsiorTravelers |

We were craving Indian food, and we decided to try Patiala. The food here is amazing. The service was great too. I was surprised the did not have wine. I asked if we should bring in a bottle, but that was not allowed. We arrived at 9:30pm, so we decided to stay. If they would have had wine, I would have rated it 4 or 5 star.

Best pani puri in the world

By Hungryghost7 |

This is a discovery of the trip to NYC! Awesome place, unpretentious in decor but hits it out of the park for the food. We started with pani puri and Delhi Chaat. Pani puri was delectable, served in a unique way. The Patiala Murgh Tikka is out of the world too... Chole was a bit spicy but excellent and the puri was nicely done. The tandoori Roti was light and we could eaten any number. Closed with gulab jamun and gajar halwa... all good too. Worth every cent! Go for it... don’t miss this place...

Great English Curry

By RiSiBl |

Small place, uninspiring decor and seating - great food though, but bring your own beer! Samosas very nice, Rogan Josh really tasty - but spicier next time please though!

Expect it to be Busy

By tobedetermined |

A small restaurant so make reservations if you don't want to wait. They juggled several tables so other parties could fit while we were there. Efficient rather than friendly service. We had a smattering of dishes for our table of 5 & all were cooked & spiced perfectly. Very good overall. And since it's NYC, there was a constant stream of delivery guys picking up. Certainly worth a stop if you have a hankering for good Indian food.

quick fantastic meal

By sonja2183 |

I stopped in here for a quick lunch and I was not disappointed. The lunch special comes with naan and basmati rice and the portions were huge. Two people could have eaten from it. I also had a chai which was super delicious!

Resturant serves authentic verity of Desi Halal food. Service is very nice our server was courteous & helpful food was delicious with little spicy 🌶️ flavors

Small restaurant but worth the wait

By D. Aaronson |

Perhaps the best Indian I've had in NYC, and definitely the best tandoori I've had anywhere. It's rare to get chicken from the tandoor that is still moist inside and I would go back again just for that. Okra appetizer was also very good.

Unassumingly delicious

By FourDeez |

What a great option for those who have kids, great choice of curries that are displayed and easy to choose from. Food is fresh, fast and delicious! Overall, a great cheap eat....

Patiala my favorite Indian Grill restaurant to eat ,

Everyone from the staff are very nice and food is outstanding. You need to go there to believe it, Everything look clean and appearance was so neat. This was definitely a great experience.

Indian Food must have

By Jason Robert |

Coming to New York and loving indian food... works at this place. Near to Penn Station you'll find this place. Nothing special on the inside, but for a fast and authentic indian menu perfect! Anytime again!

Superb Thanksgiving meal

By crabbysandy |

This restaurant was pretty close to Hudson Yards, so we stopped in after a visit to The Vessel. We ordered Papadam, Aloo Gobi, Chana Masala, and Roti. The entrees do not come with rice, we ordered two and one would've been sufficient. All dishes were delicious. Three different sauces accompanied the Papadam, the onion pickle was incredibly good. The restaurant interior was very small and cramped, so we ate on the heated patio. Service was a bit aloof.

Great vegan options

By Monica B |

Great Indian restaurant! The food and service were both great! We are vegan and were very happy to see that they had a vegan section on the menu. The vegan food exceeded our expectations.

Delicious chicken tikka masala!

By Prashmi K |

Love the Chicken Chettinad (spicy in coconut milk)and Chicken Tikka Masala(creamy and medium spicy) here . These portions are served with rice. Do try the Mango lassi, its one the best iv ever had.

Pleasent surprise in NYC

By Jordan S |

This charming indian restaurant provided good servive and excellent food. Staff made sure you felt welcome and ordered the best food possible to your taste. Try the mango chicken

Good food, very small restaurant

By Gregsky |

My wife and I went here for dinner and, luckily, had reservations. There are maybe 10 tables in this place, with another 6-8 on a covered patio. Service was fast and friendly. Food was hot and very tasty. We had samosas, lamb kurma, rice, naan, and butter chicken). Both were very good, but I loved the butter chicken. Price (with a mango lassi and iced tea) was $80, before tip. Very reasonable.

Upstairs it was very cozy sitting Chicken tikka massala, Garlic naan was very tasty Extremely friendly staff Large portions and very nice that staff is honest about the portions and instead of 3 dishes recommend you 2 dishes because otherwise it will be too much

Will go back for biryani

By Ani |

Great food. The appetizers are amazing. But the best dish is the biryani. It is served with a wrap of naan to keep the "dum" - the spicy flavor as the rice is cooked.

The best Carry for long

By Charlotte V |

Nice little indian restaurant on the corner on 9 Ave and 34 th st. in NYC. We had the best carry for year. Only catch is that they dont serve alcohol.

Small and cramped

By stuart w |

Place seemed quite different from the posted photos, very small and cramped, busy street outside and noise was quite loud. Food was decent enough, soft drinks only, no alcohol

Home food away from home.

By Novicetraveller2009 |

I was in the area and noticed the Indian fast food place near B&H Photo & Video place. I could have easily tried other places, but wanted something to eat quick. The food is good, the price was right and the service was good enough. If you are in NYC and want something quick to eat that is well cooked, try this place.
