a Celebration

By Angela G |

This lovely bar sits on top of the Peninsula Hotel. It affords a 180 degree view high up above Fifth Avenue and is stunning. The drinks are generous and well made. The bartender Alan and the server Salvatore are exceptional. It is a must stop while in New York

Amazing place for cocktails and what a view. Love the Elton John cocktail! Service was impeccable and we loved the place.

Bartender does not know how to make a cocktail

By Chazzaguapa |

I visited here as it came highly recommended from various forums, the photographs seemed lovely, very thai inspired and luxurious, however on arrival this was not the case to be honest. Dark and drab furnishing, outdoor heaters didn't really heat the table and the bartender was just clueless. i ordered an espresso martini which was more of a bailys with ice. The wrong colour and far too sweet. TO end the evening before our short walk to neighbouring hotel we decided to finish the night with a Gin and Tonic, it was more of a triple gin... we do not remember the walk home that evening ... a bit disappointing overall.

Amazing views

Dropped in to this place on the way to dinner one night - came recommended by our hotel. Really nice bar, high up and kind of exclusive. Good vibe and quite intimate. Great if you want a little hideaway. Drinks are pricey but location location location.

Great for an after dinner drink and a good cigar

By 222ola |

This Salon de Ning rooftop bar is located in the Peninsula Hotel on fifth avenue, close to Central park. The single elevator providing access to the rooftop bar is a bit hard to find but persevere! The outdoor part of the top floor is largely used as a cigar bar and we did enjoy some cigars and wine with a wonderful view of fifth avenue stretching below us. Choose a table with the knowledge that it may rain! The prices are rather high, but where else can you enjoy a good cigar and a drink with such a view! Service is low key but good and unobtrusive.

Peninsula Hotel...get your act together on the rooftop!

By Socalicouple |

Anyone who has read my prior contributions will appreciate that I don't take cheap shots at places that may have had a bad night. In the case of the Salon de Ning, the Peninsula has three bad nights when it came to our party, so I reserve a special place in the TripAdvisor penalty box when someplace manages to bungle things time and again. For the record, I'm actually a fan of the Salon de Ning, as witnessed by my prior review on another visit. The challenge this time as actually getting to the rooftop, which we attempted to do three nights, and time and again the hotel couldn't get it's act together. First night I called to see if it was open and was told it was open until 12:30am, so our party walked over mid evening and were promptly turned away in the lobby, told that all restaurants and bars in the hotel were not open to the public. Fine, I get it, stuff happens and the phone operators aren't always in the loop. The second night, I called again and was told no problem, open to the public and open until 12:30am. Again we paraded over to the lobby of the Peninsula and were told it was closed. I explained that I had called and was told it was open, and the staff member actually laughed at us as if we were making it up, and said I had been closed for several hours. Not a greatest hits moment in fine hotel customer service. I asked him what time it opened the next day, and he said 4pm. Wrong! Third day I called as we wanted to have a drink before a group dinner, and I knew better than to trust going over there. I was told this time it didn't open at 4pm, but would be open at 5, which was too late for our group to fit in. I expect the Peninsula to be better than this. I get that there can be changes, etc but three days in a row they couldn't get it right on operating hours or frankly, basic customer service. It forced us to explore other rooftop options and we took our business elsewhere. The fourth night we were actually walking a block away and someone said "shall we try it again?" and the group of ten took a pass based on the three strike rule, and we settled into the comfy lobby bar of a different hotel and had a blast for another two hours.

Pricey drinks for a priceless view

By Mattia Brentari |

Drinks are over $20 but it is probably justified by the view, because it is fantastic. Fancy Chinese decor interior design, the view over 5th avenue and Central Park (but I liked better the buildings and the life within) and the upper-class and not-so-touristy atmosphere are a plus.

Just go!

By Jess |

This is a hidden get in the city! Overlooking Central Park on one side, and 5th Ave on the other, it's a lovely spot to have drinks with friends and watch day turn to night.

The best service we have had in NYC this summer!

By Georgia D |

Salvatore is BY FAR the nicest service we've had in New York. Friendly and thoughtful! We came on our night before last to have a drink in the rooftop accompanied by our 8 year old daughter. He made everything he could to make us feel comfortable and to find something for her to munch on. She brought her snacks and juices! He went out of his way for us. Thank you Salvatore! The place was very nice as well, amazing view even though it was a foggy night, The drinks were good and the music very enjoyable! We are definitely going back for our last night in NYC.

Dreadful muzak

By EddieRidgeon |

I'm sure its lovely but it was so noisy we couldn't stay for a drink. Piped muzak extended onto outside seating area so didn't stop to take photos either. Shame

Spectacular views, tired product.

By MLXV |

Having visited other Peninsula outlets worldwide, I came in with high expectations. Sadly, it seems that in terms of the quality of both product and service, the NYC establishment is 'surfing' on its past reputation and breathtaking views. The interiors as well as furnishings are tired and in desperate need of renovation. The bar closes at... 11.30PM, which is rather surprising. After last order, the lights were turned on and the music stopped playing - still well before midnight. Disappointing - worth only a short visit to appreciate the surrounding skyline.

Don’t go alone...maybe not at all

By Arnaldo R |

The place is well located and has some views, not the best. Food and drink great, waiters great as well...only I was alone had shrimp cockyail and a glass of champagne when I had the bad idea of leaving my things at the table to go out to see the cityscape for like 2 minutes, to find my thinks taken by the manager and other people looking forward to take my place, empty and clean. I went for my things and had the opportunity to understand the Manager thought he did well. I will not get back.

Very nice place to smoke

By leon c |

Very nice place to smoke The service is very good Menu is ok Price is $$$$ Better before 5 pm to have a table

Disappointed

By Kay G |

Super generic for a Peninsula hotel . Yes there are good but obstructed views and the ambience is old and industrial.. prices were ridiculous even for NY. We were inside and is was freezing. So many other great places.

I RECOMMEND

By Sylwia K |

I recommend this very atmospheric place with a wonderful view. Very nice service. Prices ? what are the prices in NY :) but it's worth it.

Classy rooftop

By Carina |

The view is not among the best in Manhattan but the atmosphere is exclusive. It's different from any other rooftop. And more pricey, of course.

Great view

By Joste S |

Nice spot to have some drinks after work, enjoy the skyline, and have a nice time with great people.

Beautiful views over Manhattan

By TeemuHuotari |

I visited the roof top bar of the Peninsula last july. It was very busy evening but we managed to get a table. Waiter quickly came and took our order. Drinks were very good and strong! If I go there again I would choose less busy night as the place was packed.

Rooftop View and Vibe

By PlatinumHoney |

Great view of NYC from atop the Peninsula Hotel in this chic setting always busy with a crowd and always a pleasure to enjoy libations above the thrall. Could live w/o the cigar smokers, but, it is outside, it is NYC and so it goes. A lovely place to enjoy a nightcap.

Must stop when staying here

By Raymond Abeltun |

Stopped here for drinks and some late afernoon snacks. Staff was friendly and despite it being a rather pricey hotel the guests and staff combined gives it a laidback atmosphere. Definet stop for sure.

Fantastic view

By nine52 |

If you are lucky to be seated outside and on the good terrasse you enjoy a drink with the sun setting on the skyline of NYC and you see the whole traffic on fifth from high above

On a beautiful fall evening...perfect way to begin our trip to NYC!

By aledo99 |

Salvator was a fabulous waiter for our first evening in NYC!!! He treated us wonderfully and we thoroughly enjoyed the bottle of champagne he recommended...great bar snacks! (This is not for dinner.) Outside seating was just wonderful the evening we were there!

Rooftop drinks and a beautiful view

By AAFx4 |

The drinks were good but expensive ($26 each). The service was good. I enjoyed the music and the outside heaters.

Photos Inflate Expectations. Over-crowding Diminishes Experience.

By JaceyL723 |

The photos portraying an open, luxurious, serene midtown, Oriental setting are just slightly misleading, unless you have the entire place to yourself. We were there at April's end expecting a more open-air, reasonably spacious experience with a view-- based on the photos. Instead, it was packed, with patrons cheek-to-cheek both around the bar and out onto the patio. Then, out on the little ledge that affords a view clear-up 5th Ave, patrons were taking selfies with their elbows tucked into their ribs while protecting their turf. One just waited for another to yield in order to take another inch of that person's space. I am not saying that it is a bad place. It is indeed attractive. But, the throngs of people in the lobby waiting to board the elevator to the rooftop, the chaos around the bar and onto the outer areas, and people jockeying for elbow room as they try to flag down bartenders, and the deafening din just detract from the whole experience and what you'd expect or at least anticipate. Several years on since its last season, I guess many still want their Carrie Bradshaw moment. After what we thought was our ours and our one beer, we headed off to a decent midtown happy hour. The hotel either needs to strictly control the crowds or have a strict reservation policy, or both.

Bubbles at the rooftop

By graciane2010 |

Inside of the beautiful Peninsula Hotel, the Salon is the roof top. We settled on Salon de Ning for sunset drinks on our last night in New York. We enjoyed the views which Fifth Ave and the arquiteture of the building around

A new favorite for sure!

By Kelly C |

Really fun atmosphere - great views and even better drinks. Perfect place for after dinner drinks. Staff was super friendly - didn't feel pretentious at all! Only one elevator to the top so stay to the right when you walk in.

A disappointing experience

By 506canuck |

Arrived here after a Broadway show last night and was told it would be a 45 minute wait for a table on the terrace. Fair enough, we sat at the bar inside. After an hour or so after we saw several parties seated I asked how much longer and despite the iPad in his hand he had no recollection of us even though he had seated us inside and walked past us at least a dozen times.Drinks are expensive which is fair enough but I couldn't believe I had to rescue my half finished drink from the busboys tray when I returned from the washroom.

Appalling service and overpriced drinks!

By Titefleurlondon |

Arrived there around 5pm for a drink at the bar, the place was quite busy but not quite. However unless you sat outside it seems, there was no table service. So even if you sat at a table, you would need to get up and order drinks at the bar, not really convenient and not right for such a place... When trying to get the waiter attention, he simply looked at me and turned away, nice!! The cocktail I chose was ok-ish but at 25 dollars + service I was expecting somewhat more. The nuts were nice though... I would not go back based on the service alone - there are better 5-star places to go to for nice drinks and they would make people feel more welcome too.

Perfect hot summer night spot for a drink!

By Kim J |

We only had drinks here but made our way up to the rooftop every night of our stay since it was in the 90's every day. Service was very very good and the special house drinks were all creative and delicious! Pricey at about $25 per drink, but it is the Peninsula :)

Best View in the City

By Liz D |

We visited the rooftop bar for it's amazing view of 5th and Central park and the had a cocktail. The service was wonderful and we all decided we will always come back there on every trip for the atmosphere (even the inside is beautiful)

Cool spot!

By Eduardo Blanco |

Nice service, amazing views and rooftop outdoor area, worth the visit. The bar indoors is a bit too narrow but it´s ok.

Ravishing rooftop bar

By greer thottam |

This is my favorite rooftop bar in NYC. There you are looking right over 5th avenue at all the ritzy stores straight up to Central Park. The crowd is always an interesting mix. You can sit inside or outside. The drinks are always delicious and they have a great bar menu. A must when you are in the city!

Amazing Rooftop Terrace

By Nick B |

The view of 5th avenue from the rooftop is spectacular at night. The service was impeccable and the dessert was tasty.

A Waste of 2 Hours of My Life

By Alexis30305 |

Reviews: Paah. We hated it. We would have been happy to pay for the overpriced drinks if there had been a great view, wonderful service or nice décor. Sadly, there were none of these. The rooftop had no view to speak of. The furniture was tacky and uncomfortable. And the server, oh, the server, seemed bothered to have to serve us. It was one of the adventures that we had looked most forward to in NYC, but were most disappointed in. (And that includes every New York establishment visited over 30 years.)

Great drinks in a great spot

By Gary W |

I really enjoyed the drinks and chatting with the bartenders - come early as it fills up fast! I'll be back for sure.

Among the best martinis in the City

By Orlando C |

With an overwhelming view of upper and mid Fifth Avenue, ask Ron to mix you what will certainly not disappoint you: a Cucumber Cool martini

Favorite roof top bar!

By Stinkerbello |

We were here off season and it was raining so we didn't go outside. On a positive note, we got a seat at the bar and it was not busy at all. Great cocktails! I recommend the French 75.

Fantastic but pricey

By WarrenRT |

Nothing better than a late night drink (and cigar if that's what you like) at a Manhattan Rooftop bar! We were there in mid November so it was a bit cold mitigated by the many heaters and the warm atmosphere.

Very Over Priced/Poor Service

By Marc M |

As a New Yorker I have impeccable taste. On a whim & after the Philharmonic I decide to surprise my bride by stopping to have a drink & Snack at this venue. We were shocked and appalled by the prices. The orders were so small we couldn't even share one. It took us a half-hour to get the order too. The price of drinks were outrageous $25.00 for a Bellini $9.00 for a ginger ale which is ridiculous. The views talked about in other revues is non-existent, unless u r happy looking at other buildings. I would never ever go back

Good views

By Clinboca |

The spot is great for views. Very pricey - the drinks are superb although the food needs to be more tapas and small bites

Always have a good time here!

By Rikard A |

We had good drinks, good service and the view/atmosphere is great. Also, heaters outside so you can sit outside even in Januari :)

Not bad but could be better

By Leilani |

We needed up here on my husbands birthday for a few post theatre drinks. Luckily we were given a table outside on the terrace with good views. Now the food left much to be desired. The hummus was like wallpaper paste and tasted horrible. Our server was very pushy and not willing to change the second plate we had ordered but had not yet arrived for anything else. However he finally did. The atmosphere and ambience were great and so were our drinks.

The view can't be duplicated

By Thomas H |

The rooftop is really breathtaking with a NYC skyline view that makes the overpriced drinks and average service tolerable.

Thick Smoke & Loud, Loud Music

By Olga V |

The music was sooo loud that we couldn't carry on a simple conversation. All clothes and hair were soaked with cigarette and cigars smoke. The interior design is fine, the service was good, and the views are okay.

Had drinks

By leesatraveler |

Tried 2 of the signature drinks, extremely expensive!! Had 4 total drinks 2 per person and bill was $118.00, come on. Beautiful view but absurd prices. People that are staying there should have a different price list than the ones popping in off the street. Did see quite a few people doing that in the elevator.

Excellent Service

By Fronterizo |

Went to the Peninsula rooftop for a drink. It started raining... What excellent service from the staff...once it stopped raining Sal dried the chairs and took us out for a delightful rest of the evening. Ron mixes a pefect Bombay Sapphire and tonic, and the salmon and hummus appetizers were absolutely delicious. Kudos to the staff!

Killer views

By Anthony A |

We went to the gorgeous Salon de Ning which is at the top of the Peninsula Hotel. The whole place is to die for. A stunning high brow hotel with one of the best rooftop bars I have been to in NYC. The view is killer and the drinks although a little pricey are well made, A great place to meet with friends and enjoy the brilliant view while drinking and eating some nibbles. The place is not huge so get in early to grab the best seats. Personally I think if the seats outside were removed and only make it standing room it would be better as the big bulky chairs that hardly anyone sits in just take up unnecessary space. A must do in NYC!

avarage

By Tamara M |

I expected more of this place.. the view is not great as I was told it will be.. the food and coctails are very expensive even for the hotel of this level.. there is better in NY what condiders rooftops..

Perfect sunset cocktail

By Jimmy M |

Had a perfect get away from the hustle of the city for a sunset drink, overlooking 5th Ave. Great spot for before dinner cocktail and pics of the city.

Drink with a View

By CarpeDiem153 |

Nice rooftop bar. Great place to have a cocktail. Beautiful view with a great atmosphere. Just be prepared for the prices.

Great rooftop bar

By Tina W |

Great roof top loved it sat us immediately good service nice drink menu you felt the outdoors but felt like you were in a oasis tucked into the city.

Leisure trip

By emilydouglasbaird |

If there was a 4.5 star option, that's what this place would be and ONLY because of the price of the cocktails. This bar is amazing! The views.. oh my gosh, just breathtaking! Our bartender was phenomenal and so friendly!! We met great Italian people outside and swapped phones to take pictures for each other-- just the cutest/hottest little spot! The only downside was that one lemon drop martini and one old fashioned cost $52! 😂 However, they were delicious 😉 The views are worth it whether you splurge on a cocktail or not!

Cocktails with a view

By SPBray |

Great location for pre-dinner drinks. Super views. Excellent cocktails. Will definitely return on my next NYC trip.

Fantastic view..

By Abhilasha8 |

Been a regular here for 3 years.. Whenever i go to nyc.. peninsula Rooftop is a must.. Love love totally love the view. But some how i feel the quality of service has really gone down each year. But having said that the view is amazzzingggg!!!

Great View

By Fsr |

Lively, noisy bar with great outdoor area. Good drinks - definitely worth it for the view. Suggest weekdays if you want a little less bustle.

Great views on the Rooftop of Peninsula New York

By wetsuitdrymartini |

Rooftop has a beautiful view of Central Park and a very limited menu. No bar service on outside railing and will need to order at bar. Had two adult beverages & cheeseboard while waiting for a table on the patio receipt attached

Tasteless cocktails and emotionless service

By KKVFUK |

Visited in Sunday after a dinner, entry was most promising and seating was comfortable and relaxed. Ordered a cocktails which ingredients supposed to be "fresh" watermelon and mango juice but ended up with disappointment, cocktails were far too sour and base alcohol was overruling and overall not balanced. Was charged double for my drinks and when I mentioned it to the senior staff he just advised me that they just pre authorised my card (same amount twice within a minute), no apologise lol, like a hotel check in:) anyway will not return as NYC has much to offer

Spectacular view!

By MariaGeorge2014 |

The bar at the top of The Peninsula is an enchanting place to be at. Great drinks, majestic view of Fifth avenue. Great service and attention to detail characterize this place. Is a most if you pass by and choose to have some drinks in a romantic environment.

What a view and great bar

By Kenneth Pages |

We went there for a drink before going to a show. We want to go back and sit on the deck and eat. I highly recommend the bar - plenty of seats at the bar, in the lounge and on the outside/rooftop deck. The Peninsula is a great hotel overall and the Salon did not disappoint.

Cool as hell

By Jo D |

This place is simply awesome, such a great place to be, we were here in December, the patio heaters mean you can visit outside all year round, a great view of the sky scrappers all around, drinks are good, although service from Sal was unfriendly, maybe that's just a NYC thing. $60 for 2 Disaronno's is expensive, but hey, I guess you're in NYC, we'd come again, and certainly recommend you do too.

Amazing atmosphere

By hans k |

The first 2 evenings of our stay allowed for outdoor seating and provided a fabulous view of the city from the 21st floor location. The music was cool and drinks generous.

Good view, nice atmosphere

By João Rodrigues |

A good view to the 5th avenue, nice and comfortable place to be after work and have a drink with colleagues or friends. One of the good ones.

Cocktails

By bp87 |

This is a terrific place to have cocktails, anytime! Great people and views. This is a must for late night romance.

After Metropolitan Opera

By CHOFrancoautrichien |

Cool bar, got a table, a few working girls, upscale crowd, very expensive but worth it ... recommended

Not worth it

By easy |

We went there for a drink with a view after dinner. Very disappointing. Service was nonexistent and drinks overpriced. Couldn’t believe this place was associated with the Peninsula Hotel. Don’t waste your time here.

An expensive view

By Bruce K |

Was staying at the Peninsula hotel so went up to check out the bar: Everything at the peninsula is expensive by design ( Omlette is $28) so no surprise that drinks are $25! The view is great ( I am sure you can get it at other places ) Not overcrowded on a Staurday night but that's likely due to prices Bartender and managers very nice, waitresses not so much - not a big place so they don't need to be in such a rush Mix of business types on expense accounts, tourists and George Michaels-looking type men ( too many layers, vests and scarves for July) Worth checking out the view but get your drinking in ahead of time and have a coke or coffee

It may get pricey.

By Luis Rz |

It's one of the best spots to have drinks in the city however each can be over 25 U.S. If money is not a problem then I'll suggest you to go there and enjoy it! The place, the location, and the environment totally worth overpaying for it!

Cool understated midtown rooftop bar at the Peninsula Hotel.

By LawGod2 |

I was a bit surprised by this bar. If you know the Peninsula, you know it is an over the top lavish hotel. It is ornate inside and out. But not this rooftop. It is somewhat small and understated and has clean lines and simple furniture and lots of umbrellas and smalls stings of lights and decor here and there. It is a good spot to feel like you are in the midst of NYC - not quite above it and not quite covered by it, but just right - looking up at some buildings and down at others. It is the right spot to focus on enjoying your drink and your company and reflecting on all you have achieved and what you may still aspire to.

Most beautiful rooftop bar in the city

By Joey85244 |

Great cocktail, lovely staff, amazing view. Beautiful chalet for Christmas. Fit for couple and groups. Cant get any better!

Lovely view, Terrible service for steep prices

By JenH |

Well, for a bar/restaurant highly ranked in reviews we read, we were really disappointed in every aspect except the stunning views. This upscale, richly decorated, Asian flare locale offers beautiful views from the bar's outdoor balcony and the outdoor terrace and the partially windowed ceilings. Unfortunately, the bartenders on the evening of our visit seemed to be doing us a favor if they condescended to serve us excellent but ridiculously priced pre-dinner cocktails as we tried to enjoy the view while seated at the bar, right in front of them. Arrogance from even highly compensated bar staff is immediately off-putting. However, being enchanted with the unique atmosphere, we decided to wait for a table and try dinner. After being seated at a lovely outdoor table on the romantic open-air terrace with a view that sparkles from the nearby skyline, we realized after 25 minutes of sipping our drinks, that not one of the dozen table had any food being served nor consumed and we had still not been greeted by a server. THe hostess denied that the restaurant was perhaps having an unusual night of low staff and we overheard another couple remarking they had been waiting for over 30 minutes for their food. Since it was going on 10:00, we decided to move one rather than pay premium price for a meal that seemed to be likely to take a long time to appear. Disappointing!! Go for the view and a drink if you dare!

Amazing Views

By Luvs2TravelAnywhere |

The Peninsula Hotel has a prestigious location, and their rooftop bar has outstanding views. This is a great place to take a break from holiday shopping. If you go at off hours, it will not be as crowded.

Fun times in the sky in the Big Apple

By BayHeadTravelinBear |

The entrance is a bit hidden. It is at street level and is the only elevator that goes to the roof top. If you are staying in the Peninsula, it also stops at the lobby to avoid all the steps up to the lobby. Opens at 5PM. If you want a seat at the bar get there by 5:15PM. Bar tenders are very knowledgeable and personable and the view from the bar and its small balcony is worth the price of admission. We started every night of our stay at this roof top haven.

Iconic NY bar

By Chris B |

If you want a table get there early. If you want a cheap drink don't come here. This has to be one of the best bars in NY...a view from L23 into the park and up 5th Ave is memorable. Excellent service, and quick. Not big on the cigars, but this is New York. As it was 20 years ago. Thanks Peninsula.

Beautiful rooftop without the crowds

By Sara H |

The non-smoking section of this rooftop was wonderful. They have communal couches to share, or you can get a private table. Service was wonderful and they have an excellent wine list. Can't speak to any of the other drinks. The best part is if you're at one of the tables you don't have to deal with any crowds. It felt like there was room to breathe.

There are better rooftops in New York - skip this one

By wxs2102 |

Prestigious location and that's about it. The drinks are super expensive, even by midtown NYC standards (paid $25 for my Laphroaig). Waited for a good 5 minutes for the single elevator to take us up to the roof. The indoor space is extremely crowded and has a very tight passageway to walk through to get to one of the outdoor patios. There is a small strip of outdoor space that fits 1 person in width and perhaps 15 people across (perhaps 10 more full-bodied individuals). We got lucky and got a table on the patio, where we were immediately attacked from all sides by strong second hand smoke wafting over from old, rich dudes with ladies 30 years their junior. Views are nice, but with some recent opening nearby like The Roof at the Viceroy is really nothing to fawn over. Staff was friendly but a bit hard to grab a hold of at times. Bottom line: there are better alternatives nearby, skip this one.

Overpriced but decent views

By Phil E |

Came here late one night and managed to get a table within a few minutes. It seems it's one of those places which is happy to take your money without offering too much back. CockTails were good but no where near the best I've had, and at 50 bucks for two drinks, it was on the steep side. You're essentially paying for the location and views. There are better roof top bars around at better prices. Check out Arlo Hudsom Sq. Bit of a treck, but worth it.

A cool NYCl bar.

By HGS3 |

Atop the fine Peninsula Hotel. Ask for Allen. Great drinks. Not the best view, but still very nice. A good way to enjoy the Big Apple.

The best way to ring in the New Year

By stathma |

Went to the New Year's Eve roof party. It was fantastic. I can' t imagine a better way to ring in the New Year than out in the terrace with a glass of champaign. You can see Manhattan all lighted-up - it is magical. Great festive music (although the sound-boxes were not good). Would love to do it every year!

Comfortable rooftop tent

By badrax |

Very nice place with comfortable outside rooftop tent Beautiful setting Friendly service Expensive drinks -$28 a cocktail And surprisingly early close time 11 pm

The hype is not worth the price

By BeenThereGoingSoon |

Yes this is a rooftop bar and restaurant, yes they have the signature drink of a Ning Sling which is actually very tasty - but it is $26.00! The bar is very small and there is a five by two foot protrusion off the bar that is outside and you can look out - not down. So, your view is very limited. The person who wrote the article about the hotel and bar put a great spin on it - but again, it is more hype than anything else. Glad I went, cross it off the list, I won't eb back. There are other better rooftop bars (Monarch).

Fav rooftop NYC

By G-Man |

This is THE best rooftop in NYC.. Kind , gracious service awaits with magnificent views. There is an express elevator just insised the Peninsula Hotel to carry you directly to the top ..Seen-BeSeen spot

One of a kind Experience

By TomSjoberg |

What a wonderful terrace in the skies. This bar has great views of Midtown Manhattan and offers beautiful cocktails with tasty small dishes. They also play nice music. Only thing that might come as a surprise is that they allow people to smoke cigarettes and cigars on the terrace section. If you do not like the smoking, terrace is not for you. There are still some space inside around the bar, which one is able enjoy without experiencing the smoking.

Simply the best staff of any roof top in NYC

By BayHeadTravelinBear |

In combination, Alan and Norm, who staff the bar, will make your visit memorable. Alan knows a lot about wine. Listen to his recommendations. Once you select s wine, he will remember it next you visit. . Norm can name your drink if you name a key ingredient of it. Quite the talent. Both bring their talents to make you visit the best. Take a look at them in action in the pictures. Find Salon de Ning atop the Peninsula and have a good time.

Small Stylish Rooftop Bar with Views

By The Good Life Traveling |

Before dinner though we wanted to check out another rooftop bar that we had heard good things about called Salon de ning at the Peninsula hotel in midtown. This bar is not easy to find as there are different sets of elevators (I remember this at the Peninsula in Chicago). Once you find the right elevator it will take you to the top where the rooftop bar and restaurant are located. Salon de Ning is a stylish rooftop bar featuring two outdoor terraces and an intimate interior bar. This bar features dramatic skyline views over Fifth Avenue. Because it is not a large bar, I would recommend getting there earlier so you can get a seat. We noticed that once we grabbed our seats at the bar people began flooding in and the seats became scarce. We really enjoyed this bar. The bartenders made great drinks and were extremely attentive. I would highly recommend this as a stop!

Classic NY rooftop.

By Nuno N |

This continues to be one of my favorite rooftops in NY. I have been a “regular” for many years and, I am always happy to go back. Love it!!

Nice spot

By Eddie NYC |

This is a nice spot but small and closes early. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here, but since we were staying at the hotel, we checked it out. It seemed people that weren’t staying at the hotel were coming here to hang out and that made it impossible for us to get a comfortable seat.

Avoid at all costs

If cheesy music, resentful service, overpriced drinks, and working girls are your thing, you might find this place very appealing. It is basically a cheap tourist trap vibe at premium price. Just go somewhere else for view, food, drink or good time. Hopefully they will go out of business soon to give room to a better establishment with a little bit of class. Avoid at all costs!

Great view

Nice after dinner drinks from the rooftop of the Peninsula. Good service, nice views and a good cigar!

Favorite bar in New York City

By yi z |

My favorite bar in New York City. I visited this nice rooftop bar every night during my New York trip and since then recommended it to every friend who was going to New York. Under the recommendation of the Carly's concierge, I went to Salon de Ning for a good view of midtown New York, and dear, it was simply New York City. The service was impeccable. The single malt selection was comprehensive. The atmosphere was very intimate for meeting new friends.

Great view

By Fiore |

Recently visited Salon de Ning, the enchanting rooftop gem atop the Peninsula Hotel in New York. Although we were accepted as walk-ins, we were initially seated indoors while awaiting an outdoor table. Unfortunately, the transition took longer than expected. The view offers a panoramic slice of the city skyline that is nothing short of amazing. However, the plates left us wanting more; portions could be a tad heartier. Service was satisfactory, with attentive staff consistently checking if all was well. Perfect for a leisurely afternoon with a stunning view of the 5th Ave.

Amazing Views, amazing cocktails!

By Andrew T |

This place is definitely worth a visit when in New York. Especially if you are doing the Rooftop bar circuit. The views are spectacular and the cocktails are superb!

Overhyped and full of smokers

By paulat |

Taking advantage of a lovely evening, we decided to have a drink outside. A coworker of my husband suggested the rooftop bar at the Pennisula Hotel. We arrived around 10:30 pm and waited about 15 minutes for a seat to become available. Initially, we were seated on a sofa grouping next to two chain-smokers. We asked to move and were seated at a table near the entrance We ordered wine and a cocktail - both were disappointing. My wine was not impressive and the tonic in my husband's drink was bad. The table next to us then lit up cigars and a lady waiting for a seat, lit a cigarette right next to my chair. Very disappointing experience- won't return.

It's all about the view

By Default_89461258 |

Rooftop in NY seems to mean "you can forget about quality". We went to this rooftop bar/restaurant without prior knowledge. The view is indeed, a good one. We only had cocktails (we were there for a drink). You would expect that at between $25 and $30 a drink, it would be a work of art. Not so. None of the ingredients were measured - I watched the bartenders "eyeballing" each ingredient, sloshing mixers in etc. That's what I would expect at Applebees, where they don't know better. At a high-end cocktail bar, I would expect true skill and craftsmanship. The drinks tasted weak - as if watered down. Maybe it was just the technique of mixing, I don't know. I do know that the cocktail I had at the Algonquin the night before was way cheaper and way better. So, take the ride up for the view, forgo the drinks.

The roof top experience

By Bingitt |

Try it! The cocktails are awesome! Service was beyond five stars! The view, the atmosphere is all so great! Very convenient location. It's almost like an activity, well for us it became one fun New York activity!

Lovely view

Amazing rooftop view featuring New York city from above. Good variety of drinks and desserts. Prices are high. Enjoy

Excellent ambience, top quality service, grrrrreat scenery but terrible food

By suresh_chawla |

I have been to Salon de Ning the rooftop bar at the Peninsula hotel in Manhattan several times. I highly recommend the place if you are in a romantic mood. But romance is also ignited by good food. The bite sized menu is limited and the food is pathetic. It does not serve well the brand of Peninsula. Who cares go enjoy a cocktail and romance on the roof of Peninsula. Cheers Suresh Chawla

Best view on the 5th Ave

By EastCoastReviewer7 |

I am surprised how many people do not know about Salon de Ning, a rooftop bar with spectacular views, best views on the 5th ave, specially at night. The bar belongs to the Peninsula hotel. One could order the most expensive cosmopolitan ($26) in town, and one of the best, and it is worth it. Great place for visitors who are first time in New York; I bring my friends, and visitors - everybody loves the place.

One of the top rooftop bars in the world!!!

By Bruce H |

I have been going to Salon de Ning for 30 years, during that time it has gone through many changes, the one thing that has never changed is its staff, they are fantastic, they treat you and your guests like family. It is our local (family) bar to those of us who have frequented for years and at the same time highend without exception, Allen, Sal, Fernando, George, Mike, Hanan and all the team are tight brothers and friends! They are premier mixologist, creating some of the best drinks in town! Great food, Smoking and non-smoking areas, wonderful views, outstanding service and it will bring you joy and pride to have anyone there as your guest!!!

Nice rooftop restaurant - good for drinks too

By MDalnap |

This rooftop restaurant is on one of the roofs of the Peninsula Hotel. Great spot for lunch or a snack and a drink. Look up and watch planes fly over head. Casual atmosphere.

Great rooftop view!

By Kaotcgd |

If you want a great rooftop view of the city go here! We went on a Sunday around 11 p.m. and it wasn't too crazy packed with people. Drinks and service were fine.

Great Vibe and atmosphere

By Daveiow |

This has to be one of the best roof top bars in NYC, such a great vibe and bar staff are brilliant. Just be prepared to pay for it !!! I think it was around $60 for 2 margaritas But well worth it. We went just before sun down and it has a great view up towards central park. Defo a place to visit, if only for a quick drink.

No recommended

By Michael K |

The spot is nice, but not special. The range of drinks is standard. The service does not meet the standard of this class. They where all very inattentive. Attention: most of the guests are smoking cigars, unfortunality we where not informed about this. The smell was unpleasent despite the open seats.

Fantastic for one drink

By brewertraveler |

Very cool place with outdoor rooftop patio and awesome skyline views. Along with awesomely expensive cocktails - so make it one!

Beautiful

Order a bottle of VieVite Rose wine, sit back, and enjoy the sunset over Central Park and park avenue. It's a gem! Outstanding service.

Warm in February. Wow

By G-Man |

Salon de Ning is extraordinary rooftop lounge atop The Penisula Hotel that is relaxed compared to high energy spots about town. It is cool and classy with a kind staff that never disappoints and tries to accommodate everyone, even on the busiest of evenings.

Beyond Expectation

By NycVen13 |

Yesterday was an awesome day with friends lounging @ Salon de Ning rooftop bar in Peninsula New York City of 5th Ave . It was beyond expectation !!! Happy & contented from start to finish !!! A+ excellent service !!!! Eryna , our young waitress was very cordial & courteous !!! Her best attitude to every guests was a great asset to Peninsula brand ;) Be there promptly as the place fill up so quickly ... I noticed all the staff were very attentive :) The view up there was amazing :) it's great place to hang out after a long day work , or from a shopping spree in 5th Ave :) strolling around the city then go up there for a break . No problem with valet parking ... They charged me $24 for 2 hrs :)) that's very fair being in 5th Ave :) the Reception Santiago even remembered me when I was there last Mother's Day , it's really great that the staff are equally attentive to every guests . Even the Resident Manager of Peninsula greeted me , his name is Mr. Alpan Keskin , said , " please let me know if you need anything " what a Forbes 5 star attitude !!! I can go back there in a heartbeat !!!! Every occasion I will have ...my first place to go for my friends & family ... Also I observed , they have a Smoking & non Smoking area , which is very comfortable to every guests .The whole experience @ Salon de Ning was great !!!!

Fun place for a martini with a view

By NYC Chris |

This was a great place to have a nice martini or other cocktail with a view of Fifth Avenue in Christmas. The servers were great and Santa came through to greet everyone. Most rooftop bars in NYC are trashy, but not Salon de Ning.

The views make the place

By MRK321 |

As others have mentioned, beautiful views, great atmosphere and an overall great place to grab a drink. BUT...be warned...$25 for a glass of wine. Was it worth it? Yes, but I'm not sure I'd make it a habit. All in all..fun place and some place to do at least once.

Even on a Frosty Winter Evening the Ambiance is Stunning

By JillClardy |

I couldn't believe it when my daughter suggested that we visit the outdoor rooftop bar at The Peninsula at 6:30 on a winter evening when it was ~30 degrees outside. But she assured me that it would be worth it. Very powerful red colored heat lamps are placed adjacent to each table and cast a warm glow of heat and light. I actually had to angle the heat lamp away from me because it was too hot. Cocktails and wines are expensive as you would expect, but the incredible ambiance on this 22th floor spot make it worth the expense. The waitress refilled our bowl of salty snacks frequently, so we had a nice appetizer too. I enjoyed watching the twinkling lights of buildings all around us, the soft thrum of traffic far below, and the ribbon of brake lights down 5th Avenue. Definitely worth a visit next time you're in NYC!

Deja Vu! Here on another birthday celebration

By NoraExplorer |

After my birthday dinner, hubby and I came here to relax and continue my birthday night to look at the stars (if there's any). Not a bad night, was quite warm and nice for some. Hubby likes the A/C, so we didn't sit outside (maybe next time when it's a little cooler). We took over the inside lounge because no one wanted to sit inside, everybody's outside. Everyone craves for hotness. Neat! This is not my first time here. Came here when I lived in Manhattan and then came back after moving out from Manhattan. "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in"! One of those hot spots you come when you're single and when you're married you come with your spouse. But if you're married to the family, I don't think they care if you bring your mother-in-law here. So, next time I'll hangout with my mother-in-law. Why not? She's a super fun and cool woman! Next time will try the food. I never ate here but we were looking at the lobster roll, next time! Come and enjoy this beautiful salon. Celebrated my 40th birthday here and now after few years I'm back for another birthday. Didn't even plan on coming here. The place seems to call me to come in after my birthday dinner. Good staff, friendly bartender, nice paintings on the wall, nice views, so what do you have to lose?

Fair seating, Exceptional views!

By stylishcanadian |

Fantastic drinks and view! The service is extremely fair. If you’re in line for a great indoor table the manager is completely fair about seating. Well run establishment and a memorable experience!

Lovely rooftop cocktail bar.

By Liz D |

We enjoyed our first visit so much - great cocktails in a lovely roof garden with great views along 5th Ave - that we returned a few evenings later though the greeter was grumpy, obviously had his favourites and made us move our coats and bags from a chair at our table so that the people on the next table could have the chair though they ended up putting their coats and bags on the seat! Bit lacking in charm and manners to say the least.

A great hang in the city tops of NYC

By Eric L |

Awesome terrace,on top of an interesting hotel with great views of the city. The wine list is inspired and appetizer plate was perfect. The bartenders were very knowledgable regarding what they were serving which is important to me as a sentinel to a well run establishment. I had one of my best times here with a view interesting public figures dropping in when I was there. Just a cool hang for a wine enthusiast, a couple having a conversation, or a group of friends wanting to hang out over the city, or even a business deal to be had. I will be a regular here.

Great view

By 183michael |

It was an incredible experience . However , the staff could have been more smiley or polite as the place should impone. Hurried to make free our table to serve others . We got our drinks and drank it in peace of senses . Amazing view

Nice and cozy

By Nins2014 |

Very nice rooftop bar with very nice and smiling staff. Prices are a bit high but the rooftop is also located up high ;-) Not a big selection if you want to dine there, but they have very nice tapas.

Fabulous must visit for Pre-Dinner Cocktails

By Helairmike |

Friends took us here for early pre-dinner cocktails . Fantastic views of 5th avenue from the roof terrace. We had our 3 teenagers with us which was fine. Staff were very pleasant, not overly friendly but efficient. There are not many roof top bars of this quality that accept teenagers in NYC. You must get there by 5:00pm as this place is not large. We got a table right on 5th Ave. Tables have outdoor heaters with was good. I would rate this place as good as the Peninsular in HK. Cocktails (Ultimate Vesper for me) were excellent, and i would recommend this place to anyone visiting NYC. Not cheap but very worth it in my view.

Late Drinks

By David CS |

Great ambiance and a beautiful view of New York City. If you get good weather is very nice to sit outside and enjoy the night.

Favorite rooftop in NYC

By V P |

Stunning view, defiantly my favorite rooftop bar in NYC. Cocktails are made to perfection appetizers are very delicious. Top notch services especially George he always takes care of his guests

Awesome view, great music

By Benjamin M |

The location, at fifth avenue is awesome. The interior of the bar are elegant and give a great warm feeling (radiant heaters are there, if it gets cold). As it is a rooftop bar in NYC and in a quite expensive Hotel (The Peninsula) it is obviously expensive. BUT as the bar presents itself and the prices suggest you will get a high quality drink. The "Ning Sling" is great! But the other drinks I think could be done better (the ingredients are good). Still my favorite rooftop bar and I HIGHLY recommend it.

excellent place for a superb evening

By robertvalerie |

nice place, great view, excellent service, lovely service, very good cocktail and nice food, the place to go on a night in NY

Awesome rooftop bar

By Jewels1698 |

Great spot for outdoor rooftop drinks at the Peninsula Hotel. Decor lends a slight Asian feel. The bartender makes a great martini.

Allways excellent

By Raymond Abeltun |

We try and stop by this place everytime when were visiting NY. Stayed at the hotel many times, but wirth a visit even when youre not staying at the hotel. Its expensive for sure!!! :) But the level of service and quality of food/drinks is also at a top top level. So you get what you pay for.

An open air roof top bar

By DMJA21 |

Salon de Ning opens at 5 and as a general rule all the rooftop tables are either reserved or taken shortly thereafter. There is overflow seating available in the same room as the bar. When we left at 5:45. the outside tables were taken and there were only a few seats open inside. It offers exceptional views and prices, although high, are commensurate with the views

This is the rooftop bar at

By Byron R |

This is the rooftop bar at the Peninsula Hotel. There is a smallish interior area as well as outdoor seating. The interior area doesn’t have generous standing area so can get crowded. Great bartenders. There is an igaloo (plastic geodesic dome )which is heated and can be reserved for bottle service which presently has a $500 minimum. We skipped the igaloo and enjoyed the chat with the bartender!!

Fabulous outside terrace with prices to match.

By Donya E |

We just dropped into the hotel looking for a bar and were directed to the rooftop. Lots if tables outside as well as a bar with seating inside. Very nice place to chill out after a long day in the city. But be warned the prices are HIGH! I had a glass of house red wine...Nothing special for 30 dollars per glass and it wasn't a big glass either. One does feel a bit ripped off here but if you are looking for a rooftop this is it. It's not high up so that you are overlooking the skyline but the buildings on 5th avenue that you can see are beautiful. The music was the right volume for talking as well.

Sloppy service

By 1kidlyd |

I was looking forward to this rooftop visit. Tight bar space but nice roomy tables outside. The bartenders never pay attention to you or anything . Its tough to make eye contact in order to order an overpriced drink. The bar had old napkins and dirty glasses on bar and napkins on floor. The place was a mess . The bathroom had no towels and also a mess. NO manager anywhere and no organization at all. For the price I want a clean bar at the least. IT was a Saturday night . What a bust

Its ok

By Quackerjacks |

The view are amazing but due to the popularity it is hard to find a seat/get a drink. We decided to look then leave.

Intriquing Roof Top Bar

By Mark B |

This place feels like a place that only certain people know about. Or maybe it's just such a high end roof top bar that only certain types of people would frequent. It was recommended by the owner of a nearby restaurant we had dinner at, so we gave it a late night try. It's located in the Peninsula Hotel on 55th street. Maybe the most important thing to know before you go here is that if you are going to want something like an Old Fashion to drinks, its going to be around $24. If your ok with that then all means this is one interesting place. The other patrons were like characters out of a James Bond movie. Great people watching. Service was really great, view is great, atmosphere worth the price (in my opinion).

Salon de Ning

By Lambo |

Visited Salon De Ning this evening on the way back to our hotel. It had just stopped raining and we looked about for dry seats outside with an umbrella. I had just sat down with my partner and the waiter anxiously asked us to move. He wanted the table for a middle aged guy who was with a very young lady. He prepared a wet table for us which was very good of him. I expressed my anger and asked why we had to move. He just said that the other guy had been waiting a long time. I don’t think so! I don’t want to cast aspersions on people but the waiters nose was growing as he was talking to me. It’s the only place that we have visited over the past four days that I have not left a tip. I’m sure they received a big enough tip from the middle aged guy. Before and after drinking. I won’t be visiting this place again 👎

Nice View and Location

By Matt M |

Great little spot to go grab a drink when you want to enjoy the weather. Wouldn't go here in the middle of the winter, though they did have quite a few heaters deployed to keep patrons warm. Drinks were good, if you in the area and looking for a top end bar, I recommend stopping by and getting a drink.

Ning salon, avoid!!.. overrated!

By Jean-Louis S |

Extremely noisy, glass rooms, limited view because not very high, and overpriced! French, don’t go there!!! What's more, as soon as your glass is taken away from you! Intolerable

The perfect rooftop bar.....

By Swegourmet |

........for a pre-dinner drink or a post-shopping recovery. The place opens 5 pm sharp. You can´t use the elevator to reach the rooftop before that. Once there you immediately feel the nice, pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. If the season permits you can use the outside terrace. Inside there are not too many tables but plenty of space around the bar. This is the perfect spot to spend an hour or two. The place fills up quite quickly but there is also a pretty good rotation of people so if you wait a moment you should be able to sit down at one of the tables. Salon de Ning is decorated with warm colours creating a nice ambiance in the evening. From the large windows you get a nice view of the close by New York skyline above and the bustling streets below. Make sure you stop by when next in New York!

$26 for horrible cocktail, rude service

By RagdollCat200 |

When I asked the front desk lady where is the elevator to the rooftop bar, she was very polite and pleasant. When I arrived at the bar, it felt like I came to ghetto all sudden. It was cloudy night and the place was not that busy, but waiters were very rude, none of them even spoke proper English and service was terribly slow. We waited for our water forever and waiter yelled to us that we have to wait. It doest not feel like you are in the bar at the Peninsula Hotel, except the price. All cocktails were $26 per glass and honestly, it was the worst Mojito I ever had in my entire life - it tasted like artificial cheap syrup. I felt horrible for my friend who was visiting from out of town. The view is all right, but there are better roofbars in Manhattan. This place is really milking too much from the location. BTW if you take outside table, you will be surrounded by smokers.

Delightful rooftop experience

By agnes9971 |

What a posh, relaxing, upscale roof top experience. The drinks are expensive at $25 a pop but with that view, they are worth it. Drinks are deliciously blended and balanced. Seating is on comfy sofas and arm chairs inside or lovely tables outside. In the summer it may be too hot outside. There are also small bites if you are hungry. Overall, this place is a must visit when in NYC.

Roof top bar , sky high prices

By BrightonBiker |

Popped to the roof top bar for swift drink as it was recommended to us by our (other) hotel reception. Views nothing spectacular (better form our bedroom around the corner). Had a cocktail, and a small light beer. Price (with the lowest recommended tip and tax) came out at $44.25 (That's £33.78 at $1.31 to the £) You have been warned.

So cozy and warm with fab service

By bethy1954 |

Not only do they have great service they give you extras with every drink. With champagne, strawberries, With margaritas, chips.

Fantastic view

By Dotty W |

This was my second visit to this bar and enjoyed it both times. My husband and I tried this bar on a Christmas visit to New York and were there at night. My daughter and I came for a mother-daughter trip away and arrived as the bar opened at 5 PM. A totally different view both times, but both were enjoyable. Yes, the drinks are expensive, but for a short stay I would say it's worth it.

Very nice bar

By wille3s |

On the top floor of the Peninsula with nice views. We went there on Xmas eve but It was quite lively. You can either sit at the bar or outside on the terrace where they have tables. Nice Xmas deco. Only negative is that they closed at midnight!

Nice atmosphere and good drinks

By Bonngail |

My mother and I checked this out the first day we checked into The Peninsula. We loved the atmosphere and decor on the rooftop (although very hot and humid- August!). We ordered the Lychee Breeze (non-alcoholic drink) and it was good! The servers were great. A cool place to come for drinks for sure!! (The small menu didn't appeal to me). In the bar side there are great views!!

Very good coctails, expensive platters

By enterpreneur1 |

We stayed at the hotel and had a few drinks at this place. We also had a couple of platters, overrated and expensive, come on 46 dollars for 3 pieces of cheese and 8 crackers. in any case, very nice feeling being at the top, nice cocktails but avoid the food.

Great rooftop bar with great cocktails!

By CaymanTravels |

Very neat bar with a great outdoor patio (too chilly to sit out there when I was there but would be awesome when the temperature warms up!) and great views! Had the tiramisu martini and it was fantastic! Great staff as well, very friendly and efficient!

Pricey but Great!

By Bashkooo |

I've probably been to 15 rooftop bars in the city and this has been my favorite so far. The drinks are a bit pricey, but I guess that keeps the youngsters away. Had a great time and the perfect date spot!

Views of Central Park and Fifth Avenue

By CuriousMeerkatjie |

We settled on Salon de Ning for sunset drinks on our last night in New York. I enjoyed the views which included Central Park and Fifth Ave. The wine was expensive but not unreasonably so. The nuts served at the bar were delicious. Service was friendly and unpretentious. We enjoyed our visit to Salon de Ning and decided to sit in the bar area. I am not sure whether you will be able to enjoy the views when seated outside unless you are tall.

Cocktails with a view!!!

By Akua |

My husband and I were invited here for pre-dinner drinks. The Peninsula hotel is of course very beautiful and this rooftop bar must be one of the loveliest in NYC. We sipped on delicious champagne and enjoyed the lovely sunset views of midtown Manhattan. It was a perfect way to start our evening!!!

Great spot for cocktails and views!

By Bryan S |

This was my second time visiting the rooftop, and we came once more on this same trip! First visit was in the evening on a Thursday night. Had to wait for a table, but there was space at the bar to sit. Once we got a table, we were disappointed that there was only one food selection available on the entire menu. What we had was good, and we were able to smoke a cigar, so we stayed. Visit #2 was at opening, 5pm on Friday night. We were able to get the corner couch overlooking 5th Ave...our server remembered us from the night before, which was impressive. She was very friendly, engaged us in conversation, and was very attentive. We only had cocktails on the 2nd visit, and left before it got crazy. My advice is to visit early, and enjoy the views!

Bird's Eye View

By sparkler55 |

hellish expensive at $24 for a single Martini but for one drink and the experience would do it again

Avoid the rooftop

By Palad |

Lots of cigar smoke and loud disco music with pounding bass. Overpriced cocktails and stale pub snacks were served. Not a great view.. just up and down 5th Avenue. Food served looked decent. There was nothing “Asian” about the hospitality.

First time... nice view!!!

By msdet1529 |

First time here at the Peninsula Hotel on the lower rooftop which is considered the 22nd floor. Two decks offer you nice views of the city but only the East view roof was opened and the West roof was closed due to the Holiday weekend. Nice comfy couches inside the bar area, dark low lighting with glass ceilings makes it a nice romantic view of the night lighting. Funky hip hop music fill the room and bar scene with beautiful people seated all over the roof enjoying their drinks and the view. Drinks are steep and pricey, unknown if food is served we just came from dinner for the view and an after dinner cocktail!!! Enjoy!!!🍹🍹🍹🌃🌃🌃

A must visit

By MandyMaldives2011 |

I’ve been to this roof top bar a dozen times. It’s fabulous. Very expensive but worth it,even just for one drink.

Mixed experience

By Andreas M |

Location and view is great! May be even a 5. But the quality of the drinks is NOT acceptable! Hendrick's tonic with 20 ice cubes, lime and warm soda!!??? Somebody should tell the barkeeper to skip 17 of the ice cubes, the lime and the soda; instead he should use ice cold tonic and cubumber and a little peper! But in fact I expect that at Peninsula bar for this price the barman understands his business!

Perfect View

By PhatBoogie |

Spent an evening having cocktails and just enjoying the wonderful night time view. The drinks were perfectly made and tasted great. Like all New York rooftops it can be a bit pricey but thats to be expected. I would like to have seen a wider variety of Whiskey since that is my drink of choice but nonetheless the evening there was great and I would highly recommend Salon de Ning to anyone.

Great ambiance and great scenery

By Whatup1989 |

I stumbled upon this place while on 5th street. What makes is special is that you find yourself going to a dark and yet don't what to expect way to a hallway. Upon entering the elevator, you arrive your destination on the rooftop. After you make pass the bar on the right side, you see the open seating for the rooftop. It has a nice music and an attentive wait staff that are willing to please. The view is amazing and given the time of year...it was a little chilly but well worth it. The menu is a little pricey and limited but if you want to enjoy the non-crowded spaces...it is worth it. The hummus was recommended and right on point. The beverages are very pricey but remember what you are paying for...ambiance. I think the summer would be on smash in a NY minute.

A must visit for me...

By Raymond Abeltun |

The views are magnificent and the food/drinks are very good. Service is also at a top level. The place is ofcourse pricy. Very pricy! But considering the views, service and quality of drinks and food it is still worth a visit imo. I will come back here for sure next time im in NY during the summer.

A perfect spot for drinks

By Sjharch |

We loved this. What gorgeous views we had! Our first time in New York. It was perfect!!! Had a couple of appetizers with our drinks that were delicious as well.

Favorite Rooftop Bar in NYC

By Trvlchnnl |

This is my fave rooftop bar in the city. Great views down 5th Avenue, especially when the holiday decorations are up. Space heaters are up on cold days. Service is great, cocktails perfect.

Stunning

By Gary n |

Probably the nicest roof top bar in Manhattan. We visited on a Busy Friday evening but we were quickly found an outside table with heaters. Service was fantastic, friendly and efficient. The cocktails are as to be expected expensive but very good, around £28 per cocktail but probably worth it for the experience. As the night wore on we asked for a table inside and were given a great table with views of the Manhattan streets sprawling out below. I won't mention how much our bill was after 4 hours or so but no complaints from any of our party. A must visit, even for one.

Drink with a view

By Lisi12 |

On the rooftop of the Peninsula Hotel this bar sits with truly amazing views of the upper east side. Great rooftop bar for a drink before dinner, overlooking ski line views of the city.

Great Rooftop Bar

By lou181818 |

Great views done Fifth Avenue from this rooftop bar. Staff were friendly. Complementary nibbles/strawberries were served with drinks. We had the house half bottle of champagne which was very drinkable.

Excellent, as you'd expect.

By Kevin C |

Excellent service! You can get a cocktail mixed to order at a host of NY bars, but you can count The Peninsula to deliver excellent service, as well. While the interior space is smaller than Salon de Ning in Shanghai and Hong Kong, the NY bar has nice ambience and view of Fifth Avenue, and a gorgeous rooftop terrace. The bartender, Fernando, was pleasant, professional and knowledgeable about the area. A great spot for meeting friends or a nightcap.

Best Rooftop Bar in NYC

By Erik J |

This is the best rooftop bar in NYC because it is not a hassle to get into and the guests are very upscale. This place is the antithesis of places like Gansevoort, Le Bain, 230 Fifth, and Ink48 which are filled with coked up eurotrash and seedy Jersey Shore wannabes. The mixed drinks are world class and the view of Fifth avenue from both sides of the bar is amazing. You can see all the way to Yankee stadium on the north facing side and all the way to One World Trade on the south side. It is a great date spot being that while busy, there is no velvet rope nonsense to deal with.

Perfect Rooftop Location

By NancyOO7 |

We arrived at 4pm when it opened, on a Saturday, and the place filled up quickly. Lovely rooftop patio above the Peninsula Hotel. Expensive, but worth it for the view and outdoor setting. Great place to take some photos and kick back. The had snacks on the tables for everyone to enjoy.

Best cocktails in town

By Tibby Elmwood |

I’ve been here a couple of times when visiting NY and already want to go back! It was very cold when I went so I didn’t venture out onto the rooftop itself but people were out there and they had heaters. I stayed inside on the sofas and had some of the best cocktails I’ve had. The staff were also really friendly. A great place that I would definitely recommend.

Cozy, great views, arrive early

By Aegean9999 |

We happened to be in the area just before they opened at 5:00. We got a table outside under a heat lamp. Place fills up quick!! Drinks are pricey, but hey it's a cool spot for a drink or two. I wouldn't make it a night out there. They do serve a free spicy/salty/sweet bar mix which is yummy and more-ish.
