Dissapoitment

By Veronika B |

We was at brunch - good staff but gloomy interior and so usually food. It was ok but wasn't delicious. In general usual restraunt with normal food. Not any delight.

Nice food but pricey

By Stephen W |

Had the Petrossian Breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon and smoked salmon. It was nice but expensive for what it was. Place lacked a bit of atmosphere when we visited.

Coffee break with delicious French pastries

By Hell0Kitty11 |

Mixed berries Tart was delicious. Cookies are amazing. Don't forget to takeout some pastries for later.

Great Pastries

By Mike R |

Stopped by on a recent visit to NYC, just looking for some quick desserts. The desserts here were amazing. We sat inside and the service was a little slower than we were expecting, but it was a very hot day and cool inside - normally I would've dropped a star for slow service, but the food was so good, I'm overlooking it (and they were still very friendly). The prices were very reasonable based on the location. Will definitely stop back when we are in the area again.

Pastry Heaven!

By Cabeysontour |

Almond Croissant, Pain aux chocolat and Tea selection were all wonderful - an oasis to rest ones feet and restore energy with pastries (that's our excuse anyway) now on our list of revisits when in NYC.

Great Smoked Salmon Bagel

By Roman K |

Conveniently located if you want to avoid an overly expensive hotel breakfast and still have a place to actually sit down and have a nice breakfast. (Or other light meals throughout the day).

Best croissant

By Vic S |

I came here after a run in Central Park and had breakfast here. The best thing for me was the croissant. The service was good. Nice boutique cafe. Returned next day but as they were busy I requested a take away. One server said I couldn't have a slight change in their menu choice but another said it was ok. Took it to Central Park and enjoyed my breakfast there.

Quality Food

By Neil W |

Small intimate cafe and patisserie only yards from Central Park. Limited menu offering quality products at reasonable prices(for N.Y.) I had the bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese and my wife had eggs benedict, both of which were faultless. Try it you won't be disappointed.

A gem!

By MickyO |

We had brunch at Petrossian and after reading other reviews, I had to have an almond croissant. A big, flaky and delicate bit of yumminess! My husband had a smoked salmon sandwich which was amazing. The bread was like little pancakes. A savory delight. I had the pain perdu, again after reading reviews. It was delicate and delicious. We were stuffed and glad we came in. We did a bit of shopping in the bakery and boutique. We will go back!

Outstanding Coffee and brunch restaurant off Central Park

By Leonard_vd_Heyden |

While visiting NY for my daughter's LL.M. graduation at Fordham University, I stopped off for coffee and an almond croissant at Petrossian. Its coffee and almond croissant clearly rank at the very top of my many expereinces worldwide ... in short, outstanding. Also, a very pleasant and relaxed ambiance and excellent service.

The smoked salmon and caviar were yummy.

By happytraveller87108 |

This is a very low key "cafe" and you need to want to have caviar or there is no reason to go to this place. We were disappointed to no longer able to have borscht--discontinued! Smoked salmon was very nice.

Caviar and Croissants

By ahenyc |

We know about Petrosiian and Caviar. Fantastic place to meet at the bar for a sip of champagne an oyster or two and a caviar nibble. The lunches and dinners are lovely but the best croissant in NYC is a little known secret.

Best French cafe in the area

By Chabu H |

We were staying around the corner of the Park Hyatt and found this wonderful gem the croissant was just like the one I had in Paris and everything else that we ordered was just superb

Food with mouse droppings!

By GlobetrotterDoug |

I went to this restaurant many times over the years but it has gone downhill. I ordered pasta. It has mouse dropping. They refused to replace it or not charge fo Ritchies and threatened to call the police if I didn't pay. AVOID!!!!!!

Great place to eat breakfast!

By Its_JandW |

This place is AMAZING! But before you read any further, call ahead to see if their actual cafe is open now. It was not stated online, but when I visited in March of this year the cafe was being renovated . So if you want to sit down and eat you have to do so in the bakery. Which is what I did, but depending on the crowd you might have to wait awhile for a table. If you're not there to sit down and eat there are all kinds of baked goods, salmon, and caviar to purchase. * If you love salmon try their lox benedict

The best coffee and capucchino in town

By B.C.QAGELA |

The restaurant is nice and warm, service is very good, it gets crowded some time but worth a wait. the atmosphere in nice and very causey, coffee is the best, food was good, service good with a smile, a wonderful restaurant indeed.

Cafe measures up to restaurant

By Landmarkfinder A |

after several visits to the restaurant we dropped in on the next door cafe one afternoon and were pleasantly surprised by excellent coffee, blinis, omelettes, all at surprisingly reasonable prices -- as we sat in the little cafe in the mezzanine we found the people watching alone to be worthwhile as a host of russian emigrees wandered off the street to find familiar deserts and provisions behind the bar

Lovely, tasty...pretty on plate!

By Arrniemac |

We spent 7 nights in New York and had 5 poor or average breakfasts in the mid-town area. Ate here for the last two as a distinct antithesis to NYC diner style. Lovely food, excellent service, if a little hexy. But everything in NY is hexy, when you add service! Would highly recommend the eggs Benedict. If you are a fan of the American masses of food covering plate, don't go, but for something, beautiful tasty and well presented, come here..

good food, horrid service, tiny portions

By les d |

The breakfast was very tasty but small a piece of french toast 3 bites, 2 slices of tasty bacon more like a piece broke in two, and a couple scrambled eggs. Still hungery so I order a chocolate croissant and a second coffee took three tries and was wrong fourth time a charm. People next to me only got half their order so maybe I was lucky.

Yummy!

By Terri M |

We stopped at Petrossian Café on our way to Central Park, but it was too busy and no tables available. We went by after a walk through central park and the food was just beautiful. Great hot chocolate and the fresh berry tart is amazing. Staff were a bit abrupt, but helpful and not a lot of room but definitely worth the visit and would definitely go back.

Amazing pastries!

By Paul W |

Wonderful breakfast - great eggs benedict followed with delicious pastries. Coffee was good too. Highly recommended!

Forget the caviar

By robcurtross |

It's excellent, of course, and if you love it, this is the temple for every type of roe. But the chocolate cookies are superb, some of the best I've ever eaten. As the "Cheap Eats" feature of "New York" magazine has it: "crisp edged with a tender yielding interior, ample but not overwhelming chip coverage, and a judicious helping of pecans." Baked well done and crisp and absolute perfection.

C'est Magnifique

By BurghGal12 |

Great baked goods to go, or eat in and enjoy wonderful pastries, quiches and much more. Fair prices for NYC.

Paris in Manhattan

By Michael W |

The pastries here are the best this side of Paris. When I received my plain croissant, I opened the packet of butter and was ready to add apricot preserves, but never used them. The flakey pastry had a perfect flavor of butter cooked in but was not at all greasy. The yogurt was authentic mid-eastern yogurt (made in house, they say). Tangy but not too sharp. Great, great rich and creamy consistency--- not to be missed if you appreciate real yogurt. The coffee was acceptable, but not memorable as were the croissant and yogurt. Great little stop off the main drag. Located conveniently one block from the New York Ath. Club and two blocks south of the park.

Near the park

By clarkeeee |

Great place to grab eggs Benedict! This is for the small cafe. Enter and sit at the back. Lovely and quiet on a Sunday morning,

Breakfast at Petrossian

By Maria Rosaria D |

Since our hotel service didn't provide any breakfast , in the morning we went out to have something and the best solution Was this place where we could enjoy wounderful puffy croissants French stile , the almond one is a must try, delicate cooked breskfast, excellent caviarand salmon , matched with an original cheese roll.... and the service is refined and accurate. You will é njoy it

Very European

By evec1001 |

A surprise getaway. Very European and peaceful. Wonderful soup! Convenient to Carnegie Hall. Fast and reasonable

Great find on Seventh Avenue

By andrews54 |

Had two wonderful breakfasts here, from the fruit based concoctions through to fantastic bacon and superb eggs hollandaise, all top quality. Despite on second visit there was a failure in the air conditioning it is highly recommended. Wonderful pastries and chocolates as well.

Great dessert, ok breakfast

By foodlovergirlny |

This cafe is open early morning, and located near Carnegie Hall. The inside is not big, but rather small and narrow. The staffs here are mostly friendly and welcoming. At this place, you can either purchase some gourmet food items, or baked goods to go, or dine in for breakfast and lunch in the back. We were lucky enough to get a table at the back dining area, which is really small. They have around five tables or so, if you get there during busy hours, you might not get to be seated right away. We placed our breakfast order with our server, and then I walked towards the entrance to look at their decadent desserts in the window showcase. They didn’t have a name, description or price of the items, but the female staff at the bakery section came over to help me. She told me what they were with a smile, and when I picked one, she offered to bring it over to my table. The dessert, a gigantic cream puff, was really amazing! Love it from the first bite to the last... For main, we had SFT and Eggs Benedict. The Stuffed French Toast was really large and tasty, pretty well done. Eggs Benedict on the other hand was rather disappointing. The smoked salmon was not that good. It didn’t have much flavor. The egg was cooked nicely, but then I was also thinking “where is the hollandaise sauce?” At the end, our waiter brought us a small cup with their homemade hot chocolate sample! It was really nice, I really enjoyed that, and made up for my disappointing Eggs Benedict just a little bit. Overall, it was a nice breakfast, SFT was good, and the dessert was excellent. Our waiter was really nice and polite, he took a good care of us. Read my full review of this cafe and food on my food blog, foodlovergirl.

Great breakfast

By Allen W |

The savoury french toast is incredible! We stopped by here for a quick breakfast and were pleasantly surprised. The space is small (less than 10 tables) but worth trying. They also have several smoked salmon dishes that looked good too.

Not what it once was

By Jason B |

Petrossian Cafe used to be my go-to lunch spot whenever I was in the area. A few months ago, things started going downhill with a noticeably less friendly staff, the deletion of some of my favorite dishes such as the heirloom tomato & melon salad and a general lack of warmth. The service was slow to the point where I had to walk up to the server twice to request a check. I'm sorry to say that I can no longer recommend this place.

A trip to Paris

By Travel-lady03 |

What a charming bakery with delicious food. We enjoyed a Croque Madame and a wonderful almond croissant. The tables in the back are secluded and amenable to intimate conversation. Lovely atmosphere for a memorable breakfast.

Treat yourself!

By Edward D. |

Wow!!! I absolutely love this place! The Petrossian Boutique is located at 911 7th Avenue and features Petrossian's renowned caviar, foie gras, and smoked fish. They also offer pastries and tarts. They also have table service for breakfast, lunch or a quick bite. It’s a shame their restaurant next door closed—they had the most decadent and opulent interior and incredible food! The building that houses (and housed) their 2 locations is s Rococco-gone-wild building that has to be seen to be believed.

Really nice breakfast

By Mariaffv |

It is a small cafe but the moment you enter you can smell the coffee brewing, the bread getting out of their ovens and the chocolate, it was really nice. We sat down for breakfast and had some delicious coffee, bread and benedict eggs, which were reaaaaally good. We had mimosas for dessert and the service was good. Quite beautiful place.

Refined and elegant, but not great service

By Komoda H |

We decided on having a lunch at this place after reading the reviews. As per our expectation, it is refined and elegant. Every items are moderate portion which is good for us. It's a small cozy tranquil cafe, but they neither have free wifi nor a lot of tables. We don't think they can accept huge group customers. Although we can't say that it was great service and welcoming, as many reviewers already mentioned, we guarantee the taste wonderful. Considering the location, decor and taste, we don't think it's pricy. If we have an opportunity, we'd like to visit here again and savor a tea and some sweets.

Great Smoked salmon

By Macdariens |

Wow the this place has the best smoked salmon I have tasted anywhere in the world. Try the breakfast and enjoy with a good cup of coffee.

caviar

By Reasonably_elitist |

you come for the caviar. this place consistently meets expectations. Highly recommend if that is what you are looking for. very iconic.

A neighborhood gem

By JCM |

The quality of the food here never ceases to amaze. Unlike many popular restaurants the atmosphere is serene and you can have a conversation with your dinner companion. It is a great choice for lunch or for dinner (if you avoid the Carnegie Hall pre curtain rush.)

Old School Caviar Kingdom

By jericholake |

For variety and quality of caviar service, the Petrossian Cafe is the place to go in NYC. The service is attentive, the decor though clearly of the 1990s is sleek with Erté images decorating the bar. We had caviar service, the borscht, and a lobster roll. Everything was delicious with ideally sourced ingredients.

World's Best Pastry

By LakotaVirginia |

Whenever we stay at the Essex House, we slip out the back door to get morning pastries at Petrossian. Love it!

Great food and quaint ambiance right the heart of midtown Manhattan

By Matias D |

I loved Petrossian mostly for breakfast or bruch for different reasons. While being in the heart of midtown it is a quiet and calm place. The cafe has some tables that are set towards the end of the store and separated from the actual store by a short stair. With the view of the store and the street further away you do not feel trapped but you can get a bit detached from the noice of the street. The decor is nice, simple and sophisticated. The food itself is very good, you have a variety of options from croissants and pastries to more elaborated dishes - always taking the classics but with a twist. We tried different option and all were delicious and nicely presented. The service is good. All in all, I would say this is a perfect place for taking some time for breakfast of an afternoon coffee.

The best baked goods in NYC

By BillySalts |

I love, love love the baked goods at Petrossian Cafe. However! I had the worst latte I've ever had in my entire life. If I was in a desert and this is the first thing someone gave to me, I would have to decline the drink. Awful.. But for pastries, quiches, chocolates and more importantly baked goods? The best. There is always a shining star in the sky, recently I ordered a pecan chocolate cookie that made my afternoon. So coffee @ Petrossian = Bad Baked goods @ Petrossian = puppy dogs and smiles

Next door to the famous place

By Barbara W |

Since the spring of 2012 I’ve been looking for a place similar to the late great Lou’s Café. I want a place where I can get a light pre-theatre meal that won’t have me dozing off in the second act (from the food, the show may make me doze anyway.) But I want real food and a couple glasses of wine in a quiet, adult atmosphere… not a burger or diner food. I’ve “auditioned” almost two dozen places and so far the Petrossian Boutique & Café has the highest marks. The café has 8 small tables (total seating 18) on a balcony above the bakery. The menu is limited but has many interesting choices. I had the smoked salmon bagel with cream cheese, red onion, tomato and capers, which is as close to Lou’s wonderful “Tower of Bagel” as the menu offered. It was very good. The wine list is also very limited, offering only 3 wines (by glass or bottle) and 1 champagne. I ordered the sancerre, which was quite good. For dessert one is invited to step downstairs and choose from the bakery items. After 6:00 PM this selection was somewhat limited but I scored the last chocolate chip/pecan cookie which was about 5 inches in diameter by 5/8 inch thick. It was very tasty though my taste buds would have liked something more purely chocolate. The coffee came in a 2-cup pot and was very good. The service was friendly but somewhat spotty. The only waiter was tending to all of the tables and tended to get disorganized. The meal was delivered in good time, but I had to ask him twice for a second glass of wine and then it took him another ten minutes to bring it. The second glass was about 20% larger than the first. To be fair, he was probably competing with wait staff from the famous Petrossian which shares the same bar & kitchen. The dessert and coffee was very promptly delivered by the waitress from the bakery. I still have a few more places to audition, but I’ll go back to the Petrossian Boutique & Café. There are still those other tempting items on the menu.

Desserts to truly die for

By doe58 |

I have ordered desserts for different occasions - most recently for Christmas Eve - and they were all big hits with everyone! Sublime is not an exaggeration - the prices are in line with their high quality. The person taken the order explained every item on the phone including the prices. Extremely professional and helpful!

A visit to Petrossian is the stuff of dreams

By MG L |

On a recent stay in New York I discovered by accident the Petrossian Cafe and Boutique while staying at the adjacent JW Marriott Essex House. What a lucky discovery for me. I came here on at least three occasions after becoming addicted to their wonderful morning pastry, in particular the Petrossian apple turnover. Many fine goods are here, including luxurious chocolates and Petrossian caviar selections. I will miss Petrosssian and hope to be back.

Pastry primo

By lton |

Best coffee we had in New York. And the croissants etc. wow. We were there early and saw the parade from the bakery to the display case. Impressive. Also saw the flowers refreshed by a wonderful lady who knows her craft. I do not know how I missed this place till now. Can’t wait to try other things... lovely caviar selection.

Wonderful croissants

By María |

Such a treat to find authentic croissants in New York City. The coffee and bread rolls were also very good.

Great coffee

By Mary V |

Stop in this little cafe for a cappuccino and a sweet. One block from Central Park and some of the best coffee I've ever tried. The chocolate croissant wasn't bad either. Great break from a busy day.

Good pastries

By ClevelandBeachBoy |

If you're looking for a non-chain place with good pastries, check this out. The raisin pastries and the croissants are good. You can also sit in here and order food or have a cup of coffee or tea. Go here instead of Starbucks. You can also get some french meats and salmon.

Bad foie gras

By ojnyc |

I've been eating all kinds of foie gras since my childhood in France -- goose and duck, Alsace and Perigord, cold and warm, with and without truffles. In New York, I've tasted some excellent foie gras dishes at places such as Jean-Georges, Gabriel Kreuther, Daniel, and Le Perigord. Every Christmas, I used to purchase a marble of duck foie gras with truffles at Petrossian Boutique & Cafe, where the product had always been of exquisite taste and freshness. This year, I bought my usual 0.75 lb marble at the same place again (for $253.48), but unfortunately, this year I was in for a huge disappointment. The delicacy -- "made in the USA and prepared for Petrossian in Long Island City, NY" according to the packaging -- was so SALTY that I could not believe it. It made me fall off my chair and ruined the whole Christmas dinner. The treat was simply inedible, and it followed no other destiny than a non-stop trip to the Chanel thrash can. Where will Petrossian's foie gras be made next year?

Faded but shining

By CulturedBacillis |

While overshadowed by younger gourmet houses, Petrossian still delivers the "ggods" relatively well. Viennoise are above average to most US bakers and tasty. Service is prompt and attentive.

Great food!

By tania76 |

After not such a nice “No” in response to my question whether you have a child chair, I thought we were in for a terrible experience but I was wrong. The service was actually great and the food was excellent!

Not What I was Expecting

By Storm2640 |

I was told this was the best bakery in NYC. Just a block from our hotel so let’s go have breakfast! The bakery itself isn’t that big. There are a couple of display cases with beautiful looking pastries and various salmon and higher end deli delights. The cafe area is small and it took about 15 minutes to get a table - understandable and not a problem. The waiting area is nonexistent. So we stand waiting and blocking the beautiful food displays and shuffle around for customers that come to purchase and go. We get our table and service is a bit slow. That’s ok too - we’re in relaxed vacation mode. I’m not a smoked salmon person, so I order the French toast breakfast sandwich. The chef will separate the sandwich so I have scrambled eggs, bacon and two pieces of French toast! Amazing! Eggs cooked perfectly, bacon....yummmm. The French toast looks amazing! Golden brown, beautiful! I cut into it - raw! Raw and soggy and really not appetizing at all! So I eat my eggs and bacon and leave my French Toast with a couple of bites out of it. Was not asked if anything was wrong with the rest of my breakfast. I didn’t offer the information either. My fault there but a good server will ask. When leaving, went to use the washroom but as I rounded the corner, one of the kitchen staff entered. And stayed in there for quite a few minutes😳. Only 1 washroom gender neutral (fine with that). When the bathroom was vacated, it was a bit difficult to enter... I wish I had just picked up a party and left. Maybe that’s the way to go with this ‘boutique’ bakery.

Nice cafe close to Central Park

By Troll-N |

The Petrossian cafe is located on 7th Avenue close to the Central Park South. They have limited space for approx 20 persons, but normally there are no long waiting lines. They offer a choice of approx seven different kind of breakfast (named by the typical nations they are arising from (France, Greece, American, etc.). You can also choose from a la carte or have a Caviar breakfast (234 USD). The other breakfasts are in the range of 12 to 20 USD including orange juice and coffee or tea. The tables are in the back of the shop as they offer in the front different kinds of caviar and their bakery items. It seems, that their main business is caviar. You will see the tins everywhere in the shop. The service was not as friendly and fast as in other cafes, but still good. The quality of the food was really good. If you look for a small breakfast cafe, this is a choice, otherwise look for something different.

Best pastry ever!

By Maggie P |

There are lots of wonderful breakfast cafes in New York, but this one is special. The pastries are amazing! The dining area is small but they were able to accommodate our group of 12 when we walked in. Great location, great service, and delicious breakfast items. We liked it so much we went a second time!

French pastries the french would be proud of

By BelJB |

I ran past this on route to central park, and then went back once i'd freshened up. I had been searching for a breakfast spot that would serve classic pastries with somewhere to sit too. This place was a great find. It's pretty much empty, so it needs you to go in, it's reasonably priced, the tea is loose leaf and the service is wonderful too. I recommend the raspberry and almost pastry, as well as just the classic croissant, and of course Earl grey tea!

Get the cookies!!

By queue18 |

Popped in here for a quick lunch. The front of the cafe is a pastry shop with a few small tables in the back (don't bring a large group here!) The service was friendly and the food was solid, but what made this a 5 star visit for us was the dessert and the amazing cookies we got to do. I don't recall what the actual dessert was that we picked out from the case, but it was some awesome chocolatey-cake thing. Our server recommended it and who am I to turn down chocolate cake! What the real surprise was though, were the cookies that we got to go as a snack for later. OMG - the chocolate chip cookie was pretty amazing. I can't even tell you what made it so amazing, but it was, and I've tried alot of chocolate chip cookies in my life. Stop in if you're near by and be sure to pick out a dessert or pastry - I don't think you can go wrong!

Delicious! Best caviar and smoked salmon in town! Try it with a glass of Petrossian Vodka!

By Ana A |

Delicious! Best smoked salmon! Try it with a glass of Petrossian Vodka!

Quaint and worth trying.

By Frank |

We went to avoid the high prices of the hotel. Very cramped but eclectic menu that was well prepared. Service a bit slow but a nice informal option

Pain Perdu to die for

By pavementrat |

They actually smile when they see me arriving -- on a weekend when Pain Perdu is on the menu! How tasty, how beautifully presented, how divine. With perfectly scrambled egg and a twist of bacon and lovely bread and syrup that defies description, and fruit. Also, the coffee is just what a coffee lover who drinks it black adores. Robust, not acidic, warm, and just plain wonderful. I love the two men who serve in this small, QUIET spot. They are up to speed and totally attentive without being intrusive. Trust me, a quiet spot in New York is a real find. It is near Time-Warner shops and also the Museum of Art and Design. To say nothing of Central Park. I hesitate to write a stunning review for fear of long lines!

Fresh and Flavorful

By elenarf |

We were looking for a place for a light snack and were delighted to find this little cafe. We mainly wanted to try their croissants but we also had a bowl of borscht. Very tasty!

Bakery great - service lacking

By RR22RR |

The cafe is beautiful and the bakery items are delicious. The staff is asleep in the morning - last visit, I walked in and there was no one in the cafe - despite this I had to ask 4 different people to help me. Finally I was acknowledged and the barista made a room temp cappuccino which took a long time - long time... It would have been nice to have the pastries heated but they would not do that. Super expensive - but not worth the hassle.

Mixed Impressions

By Sergey B |

I️ looked up this place on Trip Advisor and decided to have breakfast there. The cafe is located in a very beautiful historic building - pleasure to behold. The place itself is also quite cosy with a bakery and store in front and cafe area at the back - half a dozen small tables - nice set up. The menu is not very extensive but there are several breakfast options - from light bites to quite healthy american breakfast. As I was ready to make my order the waitress informed me that their cook hadn’t arrived yet this morning (it was around 8:30 already!) so no breakfast food would be served. I was rather stunned and she added, as if it would make things better, that they had the same problem with the cook the day before! (That’s rather peculiar...) As a result my options were limited to coffee and pastries. I ended up having coffee and raisin Miam (other name for a raisin roll - pain aux raisins) and apricot danish. Both pastries were excellent, baked to perfection, danish was with flakey crust as it should be - very fresh and tasty. The coffee was good as well, I just had to add a shot of espresso to make it strong enough for my liking. I️t could have been a perfect breakfast if they only had breakfast... For all you pastry lovers this place is worth a visit.

No croissants

By Dansker58 |

We were so dissapointed they no longer have croissants or bakery items. No other reason for us to stay. Wish we had known, so this is to let future customers know.

Good Food - Service with a real attitude

By theDeej |

We had a good breakfast here on a recent New York trip but the service both in the cafe and at the bakery counter was bad. The server and the counter staff were arrogant and condescending as if they were judge of whom should or should not be customers. The breakfast server asked if we had left a tip for his service - unfortunately I had. The bakery counter staff was more interested in their conversation over last nights date and the counter crumbs than us. However, the breakfast was good but even though we passed by each day on our morning walk in Central Park we could not bring ourselves to stop in again.

A great place for high quality stuff every time guaranteed

By Luxship |

I have been there a couple of times, rather to get some caviar or sit down there at the cafe. Every time I go it was just so heavenly. A very casual and easy going setting for nothing easy going at all. They really have the best caviar, and really top notch smoked salmon (even my 3 years old LOVE it), really delicious croissants in different flavors which I always bring them home. It really is a hidden treasure for a fish/ caviar lover, or a go-to morning/ brunch place to be. I really just love it there. There are times that I just want some perfect smoked salmon for breakfast and they have it right, the perfect toast and everything that comes with it, or a sandwich, I just really glad that I am finally there. Writing this review makes me hungry again...

Fresh Baked Rolls and Desserts

By Scott B |

right around the corner from where we stayed, we were glad to go to the bakery and get fresh baguettes, rolls, deserts and other goodies. Open from 6 until 6 even on Thanksgiving. Highly recommended for a cheap alternative to expensive restaurants.

Watch out for the very expensive espresso

By thetripchick |

Four stars for the amazing, buttery, flaky, not overly sweet almond croissant that I picked up as a treat for myself one chilly afternoon. I think I almost swooned when I took my first bite. One word of warning: if you want a double espresso to go with that, as I did, go across the street (or on any corner) to Starbucks as Petrossian will charge you by the shot. That's right, my double espresso cost $16. I was in such shock for being such an idiot for not asking the price that I simply paid, dumbfounded, and left. Good lesson for me - suck it up and ASK how much they charge for an espresso. Even $8 for a single shot is too rich for me. I was thinking perhaps that I'd find tiny gold flecks at the bottom of my to-go cup for that price but alas, that was not the case.

Pastries were some of the best I've had outside of Paris

By dnadler |

Eating breakfast here was a total surprise. Was told that the restaurant was world famous. The food did not disappoint. Pastries were great. Open faced roast beef sandwich was amazing. Also had the best Canales outside of France, nobody else seem to get them right in the US.

In search of the perfect Oscietre

By Uberfluss |

I'm a fan of the Iranian Oscietre and always look for the most similar option wherever I go. At London's Caviar House, it's the "Saint James" that resembles it. Here at Petrossian, I haven't found it yet. I hope it's what they call "president "? I will try that next time. My quest continues.

Love this place!

By Eric D |

Love to take my wife and professors here. It's a nice, small, and quiet place in Midtown Manhattan by CP. Love this place for 2 reasons... 1. Place I first had Harney & Sons Green Tea... 2. Cookies! Their massive cookies set the standard! Do come early though as they sell out.

Amazing salmon

By Susan W |

My daughter and I had wanted to eat at the gorgeous restaurant, but it was not open when we were there so we ate at the cafe. It was a small cafe, but the service and food were fabulous. The salmon was perfection and I my mouth is watering just thinking about it. We can hardly wait to go back for breakfast again!

A treat while they pack your caviar...

By Annette S |

No place says petite-luxe like this tiny cafe in the back of the famous Petrossian shop on a small mezzanine. Gossip or philosophize with a plate of three types of house smoked salmon, a spot of caviar and a glass of champagne. My favorite tchai is Tante Irina which comes in a little pot for two cups -- perfect. breakfast & brunch

Superb! The food is authentic French food. The service is impeccable...

Fabulous pastries

By Falkirkgirl |

Discovered Petrossian whilst staying at the JW Marriott round the corner. Looking for something "nice" to have with a cup of tea, selected a fresh blueberry pastry. The pastry was simply delicious, excellent quality and beautifully boxed to take away. An absolute find and not that expensive considering the quality of the pastries. There is a small seating area at the rear of the cafe. A little oasis in the middle of the bustle of NYC. Highly recommend.

Pleasant Lunch

By Patricia A |

Well worth the stop. Staying nearby to go to Carnegie Hall, Central Park and museums, we looked in for lunch. The pastries are top notch. The lunch menu is purposefully limited, as is table space. Excellent food, quiet spot. We had the borscht and the club sandwich.

Beautiful caviar but terrible website

By thymetoparty |

I've been visiting Petrossian in person in New York since the 80s. Their variety of caviar was amazing and I love their delicious chocolate and fruit paste squares. Their website is a mess, don't try online ordering.

Delicious Almond Croissants

By LindaRoo |

Came here a couple of times during our visit to NYC. Both times got almond croissants to go. The first time, the croissants were heaven. You could definitely taste the almond custard. The second time not so much, but the croissant was still very good.....wish it had more almond custard/paste, though.

Good brunch

By DocEV |

Came here for sunday brunch. Great service, croissants were fantastic. Choice of main brunch courses was limited but great quality. Decor could definitely use renovation....quite old. Overall good experience

A great find

By Arnold L |

Well having been in NYC for a week and having been here probably 30 times over the years I finally find what I think is the greatest little breakfast cafe in upper NYC. Great service, lovely simple short menu, hot food produced without floating in fat, super fresh fruit breakfasts and great coffee. We found it on the last day but we will definitely be back next time we are in town. Highly recommended.

Friendly staff

By Monri |

Great place, delicious croissants, the staff was really nice and accommodating with us, its a small place only a few tables but it was worth the wait!

A delightful place for fine breakfasts.

By LH M |

I was staying nearby and came here by accident, seeing it when I was walking in the street the night before. I came back for breakfast the next day, and the next, and the next, and the next. End of story, really! The restaurant at the back of the store is quite tiny, but you don't feel cramped and as a single customer I never felt rushed. The servers are excellent, helpful and attentive but never intrusive; their grace and good humour add to the charm of the place. Lattes, hot chocolates, croissants were all first rate; scrambled or poached eggs were perfectly cooked (not so easy to come by nowadays); the best thickly cut salmon I've had in a long while. And it cost half the price I would have paid for an inferior breakfast in the hotel. Without a doubt, I'll return the next time I'm in the city and will order the caviar on the first day rather than the last.

Raspberry tart

When i saw from the window i had to give it a try. OMG! It was simple delightful, an explosion of tartness sweet delicious fruity french style pastry!

A Taste of France in Manhattan

By Metermaid608 |

This cafe, which is within a stone's throw of the Petrossian Restaurant in NYC, offers bakery items and other sweets for take-out, a cafe area for beverages and light meals, and a small boutique selection. The croissants taste like you're in France -- or as close as you're likely to get in the US. If you're looking for something special like a caviar spoon, Petrossian Cafe might have just what you need.

Ate here most mornings

By Lolly906 |

We love Petrossian's Cafe and Bakery and ate here almost every morning, lunch on our last day in the city, and stopped in for tea with a friend. They have a limited menu, but everything they serve is perfect, especially the croissants. They may be the best in America.

great breakfast!

By orielh |

Really wish we're found this great little café earlier in our stay! Really nice scrambled eggs with lightly, subtly smoked salmon. Wish I'd been able to find room for the excellent pastries but they're available to take away too. Good strong coffee.

The Petrossian Cafe is great

By Annegret v |

The Cafe is great for Brunch or Lunch. Very friendly . Delicious, Chocolat, Salmon, Cakes, Great coffee, The Building with all the decoration is Amazing.

Salmon was excellent

By Noraatc |

Not a cheap place for breakfast, but we loved their bagel with salmon and cream cheese. Salmon was so delicate, fresh and not salty - perfect! Eggs come with salad, but I did not like them at all. Nothing French about them. Coffee was pretty average, but almond croissant and apple pastry were very good (could be fresher though). Friendly service is a definite plus (thank you, Diana). The store is full of delicacies: sturgeon caviar, foie gras, exquisite salami, prosciutto, spreads. It is a fun place, but do not compare it with cafes in Paris or anywhere in France. Not the same.

Great Cafe!

By Bonnie B |

All I can say is...get the salmon on a baguette - loved it. It's a retail store with a small somewhat cramped seating area. Not really conducive for a private business meeting. I thought the service was great. The AC was broken but the staff did a good job to make our stay pleasant.

Better than the Petrossian restaurant next door and less expensive too

By travelerbillk |

At the back of the bakery/boutique there are a half dozen tables set up for a light bite. We had salmon caviar and blini and borscht. We've had better borscht but the red caviar and blini with accompaniments could not have been more pleasing. Topped off with a refreshing proseco it was a relatively inexpensive and satisfying lunch for less than $50 before tip. Others were enjoying coffee/tea and pastries and that would be another option.

A quiet breakfast in Manhattan

By Michael P |

The Petrossian Cafe has only a few tables above the steps in the boutique, and the atmosphere is quiet, hushed. You also get a superb breakfast with fresh baked rolls and a choice of granola, cereal, or eggs, with excellent coffee or tea. Expensive but worth it.

Extremely yummy...at a cost

By Taek-Ho K |

Went and bought some crab salad, pate, bread, and pastries. Perfectly situated next to the park so you can design your own picnic. The food is top notch. The service is exceptional and friendly instead of imposing. The prices are a bit high but as long as you understand you are buying top quality ingredients you won't mind the sting on the wallet.

Yum

By IdahoBeachgirl |

Excellent coffee and almond croissant! If you like lattes, ask for the larger cup if you're not getting it to go. Breakfast is good, but overpriced.

Perfect place for a quick lunch, great for Sunday Brunch

By Raoul P |

This is one place that seems to get better and better with time. The food is delicious, beautifully presented and served by very well trained wait staff. I specially enjoy their Sunday brunch, my guests rave about it and become addicted to this always reliable very good eatery. Prices are reasonable specially when taking into account the quality of the food.

charming, simple neighborhood place

By claire1952 |

Love this dear place that seats few and has a terrific small menu. My favorite is the blinis with salmon caviar. All well priced and if you like pastries and coffee or tea you will be in heaven.

almond croissant

By Star B |

This is a must . So close to central park! We bought an almond croissant , went to starbucks to grab a to go coffee came back for another croissant! not too sweet, very flaky and a delicious almond flavor. really.. i cannot express in words this experience. Classic croissant and Apple pastry were really good too! will definitely return! and try the restaurant. short visit so sad :)

The almond croissants are incredible!

By AESHArizona |

I read about Petrossian in a guidebook and was thrilled we went there. We liked it so much we went two days in a row. The almond croissants are incredible and my sister loved the coffee. The apricot pinwheels are good too. The service is not the best because it's a little slow but everyone was very nice.

Lousy service

By pwkl |

The food was quite good. We all ordered the lobster risotto which was highly recommended by a friend of mine. The dish was very rich, but delivered as advertised. However, after the server took our order we have not seen her again. I had to pour our own wine and waved at the manager to get our bill. Though the food was good, I will not go back for such bad service.

Delightful

By Suzanne M |

The reviews are correct, you could walk right by this and miss it. It is a charming French bakery with tables in the back. It was quiet and not crowded. We had an amazing breakfast! It was perfect.

Used to be better. Needs a renovation ASAP

By rafael_azzi |

Went there today for lunch after 2 years. The small saloon in the back could be super cozy and chic but instead there are 7 tables and no charm. Needs an total renovation. The waitress although were super friendly were clearly not trained properly. The salmon was good but unfortunately they removed the club sandwich from the menu - which used to be the best in town! I hope they do a better job. I will not go back anytime soon.

Glad they're still there

By Tootser0803 |

I used to travel to midtown frequently for business and often stopped into this great cafe. Am happy they are still there and serving lovely treats. Will do my best to return this August while on a short vacation in the midtown area.

Best Brunch in town?

By Thomas L |

Our party of five enjoyed a wonderful brunch at Petrossian. Hard to choose between their salmon - which is excellent - and their quiche, which is also delicious, so: picked both and did not regret! Everything pleasing to the eye and very very tasteful. Perhaps a bit pricey ... but the high quality of the food justifies it.

Truly great pastries

By takemeaway_2010 |

We came Saturday morning about 9am hoping to have a meal in the cafe. All tables were seated and we were told it would likely be a 30-40 min wait, so we picked a series of pasties to eat en route. Easily the best pasties we've enjoyed this side of Paris! But do go early to avoid disappointment.

Good, Butter, Best

By E C |

Its a tradition to stop in for a cafe au latte and a chocolate croissant when I'm in NYC. The croissants are so buttery and delicious that I typically eat one there and take another to go. The coffee is superb. the staff can be a little lax about service and stern about where you sit.. But, the quality makes up for that.

Pricey but Yummy

By JETT |

Had croissants for breakfast from this bakery. We requested a 'lighter' coffee and they accommodated willingly. The young man helping us couldn't have been nicer or a better start to our busy day. We didn't have time to sit down for breakfast, just took our pastries to go.

Lovely, quiet breakfast spot

By etruman |

After reading reviews, came for the croissants - which definitely lived up to their reviews. The European style café has table service in a cozy mezzanine seating area, with cloth covered tables. Service was attentive (weekday, about 8:00 a.m.). A great respite from some of the more bustling breakfast spots in the neighborhood. Take time to look at the historic Alwyn Court Building that houses the restaurant.

Quite nice

By Melanie R |

I came here for a real breakfast on a Sunday morning. I liked the idea of smoked salmon in particular. The cafe is tiny bit nice with just a few tables and a great takeaway counter for wonderful pastries. The menu is small but appealing with items you wouldn't find other places. I got my scrambled eggs and smoked salmon along with bacon. The dish was delicious - well cooked. The bacon was perfect. The salmon seemed a little salty but maybe that was just how it is. The espresso was fine too. A nice place close to Carnegie Hall and the Hilton midtown

Very posh

By StephenCross |

This is a very upscale cafe and specialty food shop that sits in an amazing building ….Peteossian itself is interesting but the building is stunning - see photos!

Weekend brunch delight

By Bicoastal2008 |

This place never misses for caviar and champagne service, but smoked salmon and brunch selections are great as well. Chilled vodka with you dish is good move. European service at its best with delightful ambiance. Go with someone special.

I expected much more

By JavierRicco |

I went for brunch with friends. Basic menu, less than basic service, however the food is good. I am use to get much more from brunch in a NYC restaurant. I will never come back.

Christmas Eve Breakfast!

By WinterPro46 |

What a wonderful breakfast; my fiancee had flawless scrambled eggs, wonderful smoked bacon and a delicious French Toast. My poached eggs with smoked salmon could not have been more perfect. Not inexpensive but worth it with this quality! The coffee was good and service excellent! We will be back!

Dessert Oasis plus caviar and smoked salmon on 7th

By HazardBob |

Extra tasty fruit tarts plus every type of caviar your wallet can handle along with smoked salmon, diet cokes in little bottles and a variety of teas and coffees from around the world.

Terrible snobbery

By AlexaSH123456 |

I went alone for a glass of wine before a show. The glass of wine was $40. The waitress treated me like dirt. I asked to try a few wines before plunking down a $50. She sat me at the worst table imaginable when people who came after me got better tables and she was ZERO help with finding a wine. I only got help when I threw a huge fit. I think I was entitled to one with a glass of wine costing $40. So sad. Especially because I came in prior years and was treated well. The menu (not talking about caviar) is great. Great cocktail list. Great people watching. After throwing fit suddenly got good service. Had thought of finding manager to complain, it was so bad. Good luck. Maybe they're racist. (I'm not white.)

Very good breakfast

By Paul S |

Very good in house made pastries, we had salmon benedict, foie gras w/salami & toast, salmon baguette sandwich were all very good & not TO pricey $15 - $18 You can also buy to go everything in the cafe.

Extraordinary:)

By Nancy D |

Awesome place! Lovely decor. Super lovely staff. Extraordinary pastries. Go early for super fresh out of oven treats. Pistachio Apricot croissant is perfection. Smoked salmon sandwich on baguette superb. I would return here in a heartbeat.

Delicious!

By Sarah C |

Had a delightful brunch here on Easter Sunday! The food and pastries were scrumptious. But the tables could be spaced a bit further apart. I felt like I was part of the next table's awkward first date.

Fabulous food at a reasonable price!

By luvtobake |

Charming boutique and cafe with only top of the line selections - caviar, smoked salmon, delicious borscht, and THE best croissants in New York. We've eaten in and taken out to enjoy on a bench in Central Park. Take some some salmon home with you- it's worth it.

Serenity, Quality & Service in the Midst of Chaos

By Joseph O |

The Petrossian & Boutique is a slice of Paris just south of Central Park, NYC. It is a quiet surprise (quiet is operative here)! It is located in the middle of the block between 57th and 58th Streets on 7th Avenue. PERFECT coffee, fabulous pastries and a wonderful breakfast menu, precisely executed. I was wonderfully shocked and delighted. We ate there for the three days we were visiting. I suggest that you do too. Chalene and Akeem took expert care of us in a manner that reminded me of the gentle hospitality of a by-gone era. Friendly, professional and always service oriented. Just the right mix - clearly very experienced. You must spend some time there on your next visit, but don't tell too many people about it, I want Petrossian all for myself!!!

Adorable!

By Mariela Lorencatto |

My mom and I stopped at Petrossian on our way from Central Park to Times Square, and I found it very good. We had a cappuccino and some pastries. Cute place, nice location, great spot for a afternoon coffee!

Tasty breakfast

By Al P |

Whenever we have a chance been in NY city, we always go to this small cafe/deli place for breakfast. It is very small, but has all delighted goodies for a very delicious breakfast or lunch. You may go simple from a cup of espresso and a toasted croissant or to have a feast of the delicatessen they always have to amuse your appetite: variety of black caviar, smoked sturgeon , foie gras, etc. It has only a few tables at the back and it makes it very intimate and pleasant in a forgotten old world New York style miniature bistro feel like delight. Highly recommended for those, who can appreciate it. Not a fast food giant. Unique and charming. Service though is not remarkable, some waiters are far from being knowledgeable . But good food and pleasant atmosphere will compensate this minor defect.

Croissants make you think of France

By CarolinaBecky |

This is one of the best breakfasts in New York: croissants to go from Petrossian. They are freshly made, with very crisp, flaky outer crust, slightly sweet and moist interior, high and guaranteed to leave lovely crispy flakes in your lap. When you get two or three to go, they are carefully boxed so they are just as perfect when you arrive at the park bench or spot to eat them. Why eat at a greasy diner when you can have a perfect buttery croissant with a cup of coffee --a continental breakfast of far greater value and quality than the one in your hotel. The midtown location is very convenient to many hotels.

To die for, soooooo goooodd....

By Annet H |

Everyone must go there to drink coffee and have some sweets, it is ultimate for sweet lovers, expensive but it is it worth..mmmmm

Bucket list experience if you like caviar

By Timalnick |

My wife and I have been ordering caviar from Petrossian for years and she wanted to go and sample some for her birthday. We had a nice (and expensive of course; $429 for everything ordered but you could get out of there less expensively without champagne and caviar) lunch of 3 types of caviar with all the accoutrements, a bottle of champagne, a delicious sweet and sour carrot soup, desserts and coffee. Our waiter seemed new but he was quite friendly and got help from his manager whenever he needed. In addition to having lunch there is a caviar bar where you can taste a spoonful different caviars if a tin is open and can learn about the varying tastes, textures and grades of caviar. There are also a few cases of wonderful sweets and baked goods. The cafe is quite small but it didn't keep us from enjoying the experience.

One of best restaurants in midtown

The food is amazing, as is the decor anmd ambiance and service. It is the perfect Russian dinner if going to Carnegie Hall or special occasion
