Indifferent service, high prices and less than outstanding food - we won't be going back. We had to ask numerous times for water. The Peking Duck had too much fat on less-than-crispy skin. The best part of the meal (there were four of us) was an excellent dish of spicy shrimp. The place is obviously popular - by the time we left every table was occupied. But the heavy thump of the speakers was deafening - I literally had a headache after 10 minutes. We had to scream at each other to be heard. There was a public altercation between the manager (?) and the coat check attendant in front of many patrons as we waited a very long time for our coats. Being forced to witness their shouting match against the background of the painfully loud speakers was the final straw. We couldn't wait to get out of there. Despite the one dish of fabulous spicy shrimp, I won't be back there if they're giving away free food.

Excellent food with great service. We ate here twice in the last month, once for lunch, once for dinner. Both experiences were fabulous. We tried the Pekin duck. Not only was it succulent, but it was copious enough for two that we took some home. The chicken satay was great as were the spring rolls and the wantons. Lunch comes at a very reasonable Prix Fixe. We highly recommend this lovely place

After all of the reviews on Philippe I decided that it would be worth my visit to NYC with my daughter and girlfriends. We did have a reservation, still waited 37min to be seated. But the problem was definitely the service. If you are not a Reality Show personality, Celebrity, Politician, Athlete or SOMEONE RECOGNIZABLE to the pompous and arrogant Yianni and staff then you just did not get good service. I take issue with that because you never know who someone is and in the end that should never matter. The level of service provided should equal across the board. I travel a lot and I love dinning at top notch restaurants. This was not that. Rude, arrogant, pompous, smug, imperious and pretentious is all I can use to describe these people. We all left with the feeling that we just did not belong. I am just not the type to put myself on a pedestal or think that I am better than anyone else because money fame pretentious things come and go. While I own my own business and have made a nice life for myself I still respect ALL people small and great because those positions change like the weather and we are all worthy of respect each and everyone of us. The mark here is MISSED. As for the food, the appetizers were very good. The main dishes were just mediocre. But could have all been better had the service been better. We did not even want to have dessert because we were treated so horribly. And for the prices you pay you absolutely DESERVE to be treated with respect and should have to be recognizable as anything other than part of the human race to get it. My advice would be go else where for a better dining experience. Better food, better service can be found so many other places.

Unlike some other places the prix fixed lunch at Philippe was generously proportioned and the waiters were perfectly happy for diners to opt for the prix fixed. If you like Mr Chow this is a great place to get it at lunch time at a fraction of the cost you have to pay at dinner. The add ons of soup dumplings and prawn dumplings were very good. A very pleasant experience.

Loved the chicken satay. My banana cocktail was good. I had the shrimp wraps. We had the green shrimp dish. Everything was good.

My daughter and I stumbled upon this place while walking around town. We are still in the midst of the COVID related challenges for restauarants and therefore my expectations are adjusted for that. They have an appealing high end Asian menu, especially during Covid that combines Chinese and We ordered the Beijing Chicken and Sweet and Sour Chicken that did not come with any side dish and was $27 each, a side of Brocolli for $12 and a small pot of brown rice for $8. The food was good and the wait staff was attentive and pleasant. The outdoor dining is a bit cramped. Our table for two was almost connected to another table for 2 seperated by a portable glass divider. Overall it was a pleasant but bit over priced meal.

Very tasty Chinese cuisine, we had hot and sour soup as starter, then crispy beef and chicken with celery, both are excellent. Warm brownie are also highly recommended.

One of our favorite family restaurants. Excellent service and amazing food!!! We love Philippe. The lettuce wraps, the the seaweed, the peanut chicken skewers and the duck are some of the must try dishes!

We placed our order only to find out the portions were for "family sizes" (there were only two of us dining). Why didn't the server indicate the order was for two to three people. After being seated with plastic dividers for COVID safety, a couple was seated within four feet from our table. The dividers don't protect those sitting on a bench!!! Very uncomfortable.

If you like good Chinese food then this is the place for you. The service is good and the food always delicious. It is all freshly cooked and they are always haapy to substitute if you want vegetarian. Portions are big. The tables are quite close together so its not the place to go if you want a romantic, intimate dinner!

I went there with my hubby, i thought about the lobster fried rice. But when I asked about it, they don't have it on the menus anymore. So I was a bit disapointed. I did ordered the lobster, and it was good. I would go back aagain, i guess.

The food is great. Service excellent, friendly! I used to come here with my friends, and I always love to come back. Food is as unique, as amazing! Something totally different. Style that cannot be found elsewhere in my opinion (okay okay maybe in China haven't been there haha) Chicken Satay, Lobster Satay, House Mignon, Peeking Duck.. Just one of a few favorite dishes

Very fast service and very helpful staff. Portions come in big quantities so make sure you’re really hungry and one dish can fit 2. We’ve tried the fried rice with vegetables, the sweet and sour chicken, the fried shrimps with black pepper and salt, lettuce wrap with chicken. The food is heavy. The food is good and if you are looking for Am/Chinese pay it a visit

Always the best service, atmosphere, and consistently delicious food! Never gets old. Love this place.

Wonderful meal from the appetizer of dumplings through the Lobster Fried rice, into the Peking duck and filet mignon w broccoli. Great service and then the apple crumble was an experience to remember. Had to fight off my family w a spoon just to get a bite.

Concierge from my hotel recommended me for lunch and made a reservation . Great location , very nice ambience but not impressed with food and service . I ordered chicken fried rice and they bring me regular brown rice, dim sums was very very average, nothing special.

If you already aren't impressed by a large list of celebrities that visit Philippe, just know this restaurant never proves to disappoint. Starting with its knockout appetizers including the lettuce wrap and chicken satay accompanied by their delicious cocktails and ending with a variety of superb entrees and there homemade sorbet. My second time here, I can say that its safe to order almost anything off the menu (still looking forward to trying a couple of things) A 100% satisfaction guaranteed. This is true fine Chinese dining. The interior is clean and chic. Dim lights set for a nice atmosphere and the music is low for a great conversation. Service is professional and does not nag you. I can't wait to go back next time. This is 5 stars guys, 5 stars.

I love this place!!! I go everytime I go to NY. We ordered about 15 items on the menu and all of it was delicious!! I wouldn't suggest that you do that because it can be quite pricey. I love shrimp toast and they have an excellent one. The 9 seasons spicy prawns was good but then again the surf and turf was good,,, but then again the salt pepper bass was good too. The shrimp and lobster spring rolls were good as was the glazed spare ribs...now that I've made myself hungry again I think I'll fly out for the evening just to eat at Phillippe! Make sure and make a reservation the place is extremely popular.

This past week, my work colleagues and I dined at Philippe Chow NYC, and it certainly was a pleasant surprise. The ambiance was relaxing, with a cool bar area and couched seating in the front of the restaurant. The dining room was dimly lit which made for a nice atmosphere. We first started with a few appetizers. The chicken satay, which was prepared on a skewer, tasted amazing and was a great foreshadowing for the rest of the evening. They also served lettuce wraps filled with chicken that had a sweet sauce and spicy sauce, both hit the spot. Though skeptical about it when it was first served, the crispy seaweed was amazingly good with it’s flaky texture, and sweet taste. The appetizers were finished up with vegetable, shrimp, and chicken dumplings that were so good, I couldn’t choose which one to have so I had all three. The main dishes only cemented my feeling that Philippe Chow is not only one of the best chinese restaurants in New York, but one of the best restaurants period. The green prawns had a savory taste and did not have a fishy taste compared to other prawns I’ve had in the past. One of the real surprises was the Beijing chicken, I highly recommend this dish for anyone who loves hot or spicy food. The crispy beef was served as strips and had a delightfully tangy taste. My favorite entrée was the filet mignon with broccoli, with meat so tender it cut like a hot knife through butter. Overall my experience at Philippe Chow NYC was great and will be dining here again in the near future.

The chicken satay on skewers with a sauce to die for, hand-pulled noodles, Peking duck and kung pao chicken are favorites at Philippe. It's elegant and fusion Chinese in a pleasant space. Also always seem to encounter someone interesting at the next table. And the service is pleasant and friendly. One tends to over-order and eat up a storm. But the indulgence is worth it and there's always the gym to fall back on next morning.

I would surely give a thumbs up for this restaurant. High end place. Good menu and one of the coolest Chinese restaurant in NYC.

This Asian restaurant has Persuasion! All I can say is if your looking to be wined and dined, You found it! The food was delicious, setting was superb and the restaurant was all together with high class, mentionable staff. Everything was perfect! Please dress to impress. Proper attire is required and you will see why. I can highly recommend this place if your into very fine dining. This place is in the way better part of town and it proves it's point to why. Just extremely, super happy and satisfied! PS Save room for red velvet cake with sparklers... it's like heaven!

Not a huge fan of Philippe. Might just be my personal taste but the vibe feels kind of like a nightclub and the food isn't very good, super greasy and not worth the price. The crispy beef made me nauseous and most of their items are things you can get at chinese takeout, but very slightly higher quality. The chicken satay is undeniably good though. Also I think there was a shooting there not too long ago. Mr. Chow is WAY better.

The Asian or Pan-Asian or Asian-type or Chinese (which ever term is now politically correct) food is well prepared and the portions are good size. The service is prompt and appropriately attentive. The prices seem high for this casual a restaurant but we knew that when when we made our reservations. A very busy and well managed restaurant.

Nice meal comes with nice staff and good setting in the heart of Manhattan. It was good family gathering and the restaurant made it nicer

The best pecking duck in New York, you have to wait 1 hour for the preparation but worth it, this Chinese restaurant has a lot of options but the duck is amazing

Terrific menu with plenty of variety; there were 3 of us so we all ordered different appetizers, entrees and desserts and shared. So I tried many things and everything was fantastic. High quality, delicious food. Thought I was tired of Chinese, but not any more! I look forward to returning, for sure.

We have been to this restaurent many times and really loved the food and service . Eddie the manager is the best and always helpful. This time , we have a big party of 16 , Eddie suggested for us the upstair private dinning room This is fabulous , spacious , comfortable , our own servers , and the food is as fantastic as ever . The Peking duck always the best ( I just was in Beijing , duck not as good ) ,meat is moist and tasty , skin is perfectly crispy ,others items( soup dumpling , oyster beef , sweet sour chicken , steam Chilean sea bass) always a high level .Being an ethnic Chinses that love Chinses food , we rather come here for quality and service than to Flushing Meadow . Chef Chow a wonderful man , he used to work at a place in HK called the Bamboo Garden our family patronized. , the quality reminded me of this very fine restauren

We visited this restaurant and I can honestly say that this is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. If you have kids this restaurant should be avoided like the plague. The waiting staff tried to go out of their way in order to make us feel as unwelcomed as possible. We informed the staff in advance that we will be bringing along two small children. I strongly believe that if you have a problem with small children dining at your establishment, you should make this very clear when customers make reservations. The children were extremely well-behaved which was even noted by the other guests who were clearly not disturbed at all. Yet the staff behaved in a manner that is simply unacceptable. Even the food was disappointing. All in all, a terrible experience.

From the moment that you walk in you are treated very well. The music is very modern and so is the crowd. The manager on duty is really kind. He made sure that our seats we comfortable and even showed us seating options. The waiter was fantastic and the food was amazing. We ordered the spare ribs as an appetizer and chicken fried rice, steak and broccoli, lobster salad along with the sweet and sour chicken as the main course. We had the hot chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert. The ice cream was not great. Other than the ice cream it was a wonderful experience and we look forward to coming back:)

This is a pleasant restaurant, but the food is really great. One of the best Peking Ducks I ever had. It can get a little noisy, but this is part of the ambience

The food is very good. Especially if you have time or money for the Peking Duck. It is absolutely delicious. The other dishes are tasty. It is noisy. Blasting beat music. Was a little distracting and overbearing for us. It is quite pricey, Well, very pricey. You would expect the portions to be huge, they’re not. It’s a scene, so if you’re in to this - then head on over.

We were recommended to visit Philippe and we are now returning tonight which is our fourth successive night. The food is outstanding and the service is excellent considering it is a very busy restaurant. The timing of the food was incredible. It is certainly good value for money. The flavours in the dishes are incredible as is the presentation of the food. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wishes to eat somewhere special. The amount of diners in this restaurant speaks for itself. We were fortunate enough to meet Philippe the Chinese head chef who has taken Chinese cuisine to an exceptional level.

Traveled from Maryland to New York during the Halloween weekend to eat at Philippe for a friend’s birthday dinner. The hostess was extremely nice and accommodating given the fact that my friend did not show up for his reservation until two hours later. I was severely appreciative of this since I traveled so far. In any case, once my friend arrived and we sat down for dinner, I immediately regretted my choice in making the hike. Our server was just horrible! He was very short with us and not attentive at all. Actually, he was down right rude! We would be talking to him and seeking out recommendations and it felt as though we were annoying him. He was just barely serving us to be completely honest. The food came out late and one of my friends did not receive her entree until about 45 minutes AFTER the table received theirs. However, my biggest gripe came when I asked for a separate check. I understand that at most establishments having x number of checks for one party is usually forbidden. However, the problem that I explained to my waiter beforehand, was that I had a train to catch and that I hoped he would separate my bill so that I could leave. I was the only person that traveled from out of state to be there. And by not allowing my check to be separate meant that we had to settle the bill before everyone was ready to leave so that I could catch my train. So we had to get one bill and split it with everyone’s desired payment method. I spent time running down what each person had and how much it cost and right as I was giving the bill back with everyone’s credit cards and amounts to charge, another person had joined our party and ordered. The waiter then told me he had to print a new bill. I was livid at this point because I was running late and now he would not accept the bill. At this point, I threatened to speak to the manager and then he relented and accepted the previous bill. This just lets me know that he could have accommodated me all along due to my special circumstance. The whole experience just left a bad taste in my mouth. I eat at top rated restaurants all the time and this just isn’t it. The food was okay, however I feel like I would have enjoyed it better if we had a different server. The only saving grace was the hostess to be completely honest.

A delightful place featuring Peking Duck and other Chinese delights but housed in a modern cutting edge decor. I love the service and the reasonably priced wine list. If you want table cloth Chinese in a non traditional setting don't miss it.

I had the most wonderful experience here! Bobian, our bartender, was an amazing host! The food, drinks, atmosphere, and, company at the bar, all superlative!! The management was attentive, and, I cannot wait for my next experience here! An uptown MUST!!!

Heartless Hostess was clueless. Despite great food, who wants to be treated badly on arrival? As a 73 yr old woman, meeting 3 friends for dinner I was told I couldn't be seated till all of us arrived. I was told to wait outside. The sidewalk was crowed with tables and waiters who constantly asked me to move out of the way. It was oppressively hot, and I didnt feel well, so I went back inside and sat on seating unit near reception. The hostess raised her voice and told me I could NOT sit there and I had to go outside. I told her my friends were 3 minutes away and I wasn't feeling well. She told me to MOVE and go sit by the bar if I 'needed' something to drink. To add insult to injury 1 of my friends was long seated at our empty table for 4 wondering where I was. Who hires these people, who trains them and how could my friend be seated and waiting and I was told I could be?? Has society totally broken down? Alas, she will too someday be old...

A new business acquaintance and his wife invited my wife and me to lunch after a meeting. Philippe looks FRENCH , feels French, acts French and serves superb Chinese food. I had the "nine city spicy shrimp" my wife the "black shrimp and beans" and the rest of the party had Peking duck, sea bass and a salad with sesame tuna, crude salmon and calamari as appetizers. We all agreed that all the food was remarkably good. Perhaps because the place was packed some of the main courses were delayed for as much as 25 months minutes and we ended up sharing everything.

Very good ambience, cosy bar scene and trendy crowd ! Bar appetizers were very good, especially the beef satay. Super nice service

fir dinner it was very goid and quick to serve Price as priced in good NYC restaurants... Too noisy but good expérience

Had a lot of trouble finding a high quality Chinese restaurant in NYC. Through reading a lot of reviews on TripAdvisor, we took a punt on Phillipe and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is very trendy, but yet accommodating to the older generation. The wait staff were terrific. The salt & pepper calamari was amazing, but it was outshone by the crispy beef. it's my go to dish at any Chinese and Phillipe knocked the ball out the park!

My wife and I specifically went to Philippe for the Peking Duck...Our favorite place in the world for Peking Duck was a restaurant in Paris...this came close!! Service was great...food was superb. Nice wine list!

I will start this off by saying I'm allergic to soy, and that's a fact of my life that I can't get around. I also can't get around that there have only been two restaurants in my life that have literally been incapable of accommodating it, and both of them had the same chef: Philippe Chow. For some reason, this is a restaurant that apparently can only cook with soybean oil (...really? No butter, no olive oil, no sesame oil?) and the servers were so full of personality I honestly couldn't tell if they were taking my situation seriously or if they even knew what soy was. I'm going to be frank here. If I weren't with people who chose to go to this restaurant, i wouldn't have eaten here in the first place. And that is a good reason to disregard this review. However, maybe you want to reconsider if you have any other dietary restriction because even if you try to make it easy for them, somehow it will become a gigantic production. Example: Can you just boil this seafood that you clearly offer on the menu and serve it over rice? GIGANTIC PRODUCTION over how much they have to alter the recipe to make that happen for $80. (I could make that happen at home for $20 but what do I know.) Fast forward, they make it happen, and it's overcooked and served with a sauce that contains soy on the side. Terrific. Anyway, I did try to negotiate beforehand if they would have anything on the menu I could eat and they're like sure sure sure, dismissive. I will say that the cocktails were pretty great. But that's the only good thing I can say.

We were celebrating a birthday and went to Philippe as we went so many times before. We booked a table at 6pm because we had two children in our party, and asked for a nice table. Not once but twice, when they called to confirm. The first problem was the receptionist. One look at our girls and she gave us a sad corner table, next to the bathroom, even though the restaurant was empty. We asked for a better table, and the manager came. He wasn't better. He also gave us a hidden table in a corner. You might think we're the most unattractive people in the world. We're not. But what really did it for us was the Peking duck. The main reason for our visit, since our daughters love it. The chef came table side to carve it, and two seconds later he left. Weird. When we looked at the plate, we understood. Pure skin. No meat. It was a joke of a duck. The service remains good, the rest of the food was good, but between the receptionists with eternal resting b&tch face, the manger that looks like a mafioso and the skinny duck, that was my last visit to Philippe. Moving on.

Philippe is great! As soon as you arrive you realize you’re in a New York hotspot with an extreme attention to detail. Right at the entrance you’re welcomed by very kind members of the staff that take care of the coat check, and direct you through the bar to the restaurant. Philippe is really elegant and refined, everything immersed in a dim light that gives a relaxing vibe. I’ve tasted many items off the Menu and I must say that everything was excellent. My favourite course was the Shrimp Dumplings and the Beef Dumplings. Also the Beijing Chicken was very tasty. Impressive were also the Spring Rolls with Shrimp combined with the Drunken Sea Bass. I tried two different cocktails, Guns n’ Roses, my favourite, and a very strong Lyche Martini. For dessert I chose a very tasty raspberry sorbet. At the end of the evening I was full and totally satisfied. Recommended

The food and service were excellent. There could have been more variety in the dishes available, but the dishes we had were quite tasty.

The food is really good but the dress code is way below what it was. People are wearing sneakers and hoodies. The staff are very attentive and helpful.

We had an early dinner on a weekend night. We chose outdoor dining. Food was fresh but not epic. My husband did love the filet but other dishes were average,p. Our server was attentive. Unfortunately another party had a terrible child who had shrieking outbursts. No one stopped the child or ask the adults to take action.

I wandered in for lunch and had the 2 course lunch special. I selected the lettuce wraps and was served a generous portion. The sauce and chicken for the wraps was tasty. I also had the branzino with eggplant with the sauce on the side - also tasty. My only negatives would be that I wanted a glass of wine that went with the special but the waiter would not serve me the type I wanted. I looked at the menu and saw It was only a $2 price difference that I was happy to pay. I don't understand places that refuse to be flexible and completely satisfy their customers but oh well. I also ordered brown rice instead of white and was surprised to see a hefty $8 charge on the bill for this.

Great outing last Sat evening with family and friends celebrating my youngest sisters graduation. The staff was great and accommodating and the food was phenomenal especially the filet mignon and chicken skewers with the peanut sauce.

We walked there from our hotel on the 5th. Pleasant place underground. We had Dumplings which were excellent. Green prawns, crispy duck and a very nice dessert. The wine list is well organized. The service was friendly and efficient. We will return.

We had not been here for some time and were very happy to find the food and service are still excellent. We shared chicken satay and pan fried pork dumplings for starters, both were very good. For our main courses we shared filet mignon with green beans, 9 season prawns and Kung Pao chicken. All were excellent particularly the chicken and beef. We also enjoyed the fried rice. The service was outstanding as well.

We went with our children and another couple. I only had the Peking Duck and it was excellent! The best I've had. It does take a long time to prepare so order the Peking Duck as soon as you sit down. We had no problem with the service. In fact they were wonderful and I look forward to going back.

Delicious Asian meal with exceptional service. Our meal was delicious with a large menu of options. We had the satay, dumplings, crispy beef, beijing chicken, and brown rice. We would recommend them all with the exception of the crisp beef. It was very fried with little beef in each bite. The portions are large and meant to be shared. The only drawback is that the dining room can be cramped and loud so not the best for a quiet meal.

Great small bar scene, fantastic Chinese dishes, try the black sea bass, always very noisy and crowded, avoid being seated upstairs.

We had a table upstairs. It was very noisy. There were two birthday celebrations, one of them was for a baby. Happy birthday songs were on for at least twenty minutes. The food was delicious but it was very noisy. The waiters were very good, helpful and quick.

You probably check out the menu before you head out to test out another restaurant. We did, so as far as the prices, we knew what we were getting into. Confirmed - prices on these small servings of Chinese food equal what amounts to what is being charged for the new iPhone X.. outright high for Chinese food. But we give them some latitude due to the high rent and enormous bus staff they have working there. Cuisine - we had the special Mr. Chow Noodle Pork flavored dish. Supposed to be spicy but it was not as hot as the Black Shimp with Black Bean (which is okay with me). What wasn't okay was their signature noodle dish came out lukewarm. We also ordered the Crispy Shrimp and Chicken dish which had a bit of golden garlic in it. A dry tasty dish. May want to get something with some sauce just so you can add it to this dry dish. Meals were served with a bowl of white rice. Want Brown Rice? Pay $6 extra. Nothing special about the taste of the white rice so all you get from it is an elevated blood sugar level on your glucose test. The meals were good but did not live up to the very high price tag (average $24 - $32+) per dish. Wait staff - unusual, we had the one token Asian waiter and several non-Asian bus staff. The service was impeccable and our water goblets were always topped off without asking. Seating - As you enter you hit the busy bar area first. Then you enter the back where you turn right and the room splits into a long room to your right, and the squared off room to your left. The squared off room seemed like it was reserved for the quieter crowd whereas the longer one on right seemed like it was for party goers or louder audience. Kudos for service - great for impressing a date, but tables a bit close so no privacy. I overheard the conversation of the two Gloria Vanderbilt ladies next to us, more info than I needed. It seemed to be one Asian waiter, one Asian Hostess, and a few dozen non-Asian workers. Don't know who was in kitchen.. perhaps Pillippe? Ambience - Progressive and clean. Seating - During the week we arrived at 6:00 PM and it was empty. Seated right away. Arrive at 7:00 PM and it pretty busy. Prices - Very high but not shocking for the area we were in. A dinner for two guests ordering one appetizer and two main courses (no drinks nor desserts) set us back $92.00. Thoughts - Asian cuisine, I've had better or at least same quality in Chinatown (NYC and Brooklyn) but the service here wins. I guess it's a mashup between Asian chef and Greek restaurant management. Bon Appetite!

Regardless of cuisine I demand high-quality ingredients. I do enjoy Philippe it's centrally located, good food and affordable prices considering the location. I also love the ambience, it's a solid restaurant has been around long time. Friendly stuff even if you just want to stop by for a quick meal, and not dropping hundreds of dollars. ( NYC standards ) We walked late night yet we're accommodated and lady bartender was very friendly despite she probably was ready to close the bar. It was late. Great experience. I live a walking distance and looking forward to return.

We where recommend to try this restaurant and booked a table in advanced. When we arrived there was really long waiting time at the table. The waiter was to much and we felt forced to buy more. The food was fine, but not really worth the money. It was impossible to have a normal conversation, because so much noise in the restaurant. We will never come back again.

Average in all areas: furnishings, staff and, unfortunately, food. You'll leave feeling full, but that's about it. Definitely not worth a visit.

Ugh made the mistake to try Mr. Chows tonight and I regret not going to Philippe instead! Starting from cocktails, service, food everything is so much better at Philippe. I was SO disappointed with Mr. Chows never again! I love the food at Philippe so much but it’s not just that, the service is always excellent, everyone is attentive and warm. I love the cocktails, wine list and delicious desserts!

Over rated. Period. Chose this restaurant for the crispy Peking duck with pancakes. Utter waste. The pancakes were awful and the duck was desperately dry. In fact each pancake was layered with plastic in between and were wet. Disgusting and disappointing. The chef refused to come and see us when requested. BUT the Chilean sea bass was delicious albeit a mediocre portion. Dumplings were tasty put over priced for what we got. The staff were excellent however. A free dessert was brought to us to appease us( not asked for). I can’t fault the wait staff who were attentive and friendly. Food was not worth it.

Enjoyed a nice family dinner. The menu has a broad variety of choices with many of them Asian spices and styles. I’d though put this restaurant into the fusion category as it is very western. We enjoyed the food and service and the prices were OK for NYC.

Quality Cantonese cooking . many selections. attentive service. similar to Mr Chow's from which Philippe came

Having spent a few hours wandering around Central Park in the snow, we were looking for a decent Chinese restaurant to finish the day and (thanks to Google) found Philippes! Yes, it IS an upmarket kind of place, but the food is awesome - which was a most pleasant surprise The chicken in my chicken satay skewers was SO succulent. And our two mains were both awesomely tasty We'd have no hesitation in recommending this place for a special occasion. Yes, it's expensive, but the ambience is great and the service matched expectations 10/10 Phiippe

It’s expensive and worth the splurge. The service is on point and the food is amazing. The Peking duck will melt in your mouth. The dumplings will melt in your mouth…in fact, everything is melt in your mouth good. It has a full bar and an extensive wine list.

They only serve half the Peking duck that you order. They carve half of it and take the other half inside. Even after pointing it out they don't serve the bird you paid for. This is done in an open and egregious manner We spoke to the head waiter on Christmas Eve , CHRISTMAS EVE and he said with pure honesty that this was RESTAURANT POLICY AND THEY ARE OPEN ABOUT IT. YOU PAY FOR SOMETHING AND GET ONLY HALF OF IT I can't blame the staff I have to blame the chef and management THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A MADISON AVENUE PREMIER RESTAURANT AND FOR THEM TO DO THESE SORT OF CHEAP THINGS IS SICK AND PATHETIC Keep away

I sat on taste panel of Fortune 100 company years and I’ve produced food videos. Good food, great service ……..for the price - prefer to be dining without cell phones going at next table - blasting video games etc guys dressed in Coney Island attire. This neighborhood has very upscale stores nearby. Sadly this restaurant no longer attracts diners with style.

Edit review 7/2/2020 Updated review DURING THE VIRUS this place is 2 blocks from us so I tried on Seamless (they say they use this but they don't) and on Grubhub (it says they are closed but it isn't). I called and ordered for take out noodles, fried rice, orange beef, shrimp on skewers, chicken somethingorother. The noodles and the orange beef were cold by the time I got them home but with microwave they were fine. The rest, not so good. We will let the virus pass and then go back. By the way, when we've eaten inside before the virus we liked the food but not the restaurant. I always thought that maybe ordering in would be better. Nope. d

This is one of our stand by restaurants because the food is amazing. This visit, however, was disappointing due to service. My wife and I asked for separate checks, which didn't occur, then when we asked again, it was a bother for the waiter and he still didn't get it right. When placing our order he was paying attention to the table next to us more than us, and didn't get our order right. When the food came, and we informed him that it was wrong, he was rude and stormed off. The experienced was a rushed, non-caring, rude experience. The only saving grace is that the food is that good. I guess they know it so they can get away with it. We will think twice though and may find another spot to try.

We went to this restaurant with really high expectations. We expected a very high end Chinese restaurant, which it was. We ordered satay chicken, a very original and delicious recipe. It came cold. Then we splurged with lobster fried rice at $55. Lots of rice, little lobster. I will not order that again. Finally we ordered crab legs that were delicious and abundant. A delicious lava cake for dessert. The service was acceptable. We only saw the waiter two or three times. The last time was when he brought us the wrong bill. Will I go back there? I'm not sure I want to spend $200 on a Chinese meal.

Took three people without reservations. Really good Chinese food. Very fast service. Try the minced chicken lettuce cups.

Very good restaurant all the plates are nice!try shrimps and wine from California. The manager is a very helpful Greek guy!

Nice place, nice location but the food is really bad. Yes I agree that best Pekin duck is there, even always better than I had in Pekin but the rest no. Today my wife and I had usual sharing on the middle, chicken lettuce wrap was okey. Beef dumplings, no taste. Dough is to thick, inside no taste. Spicy filet, meat quality very good but execution and taste no. Vegetable fried rice cant find word to describe, very bad quality row material and execution as well. You should understand the reason if such high end known place started to make a prix fix lunch menu for 23.95 and home delivery.

Went here with my family last week, we made a reservation several days in advance and had to wait about 40 minutes before we were seated. I would understand if there were larger parties that hadn't left yet, but this seemed like simple bad management of how they were seating guests, there were 4 hostesses and each was telling us different things, they told us we would be seated next, then told us it would be in a few minutes and only 40 minutes later were we seated. There was very little organization involved here. Similarly, after all that wait, the food was pretty average, you could get better food at a restaurant with less of a wait and with much better service as well. I wouldn't go back here, too expensive and really not worth it.

Let me start by saying this is my favorite restaurant! Whenever I’m in the city I try to go to Philippe. The food is delicious and the drinks are just as good. Everyone is extremely nice and welcoming I would recommend you try this restaurant ASAP!

This is one of the best chinese restaurants in The world I would say..very refined chinese food..super presentation and a very elegant minimalistic setting..very rich menu and good wine list...friendly and qualified staff..I think as a classic chinese this one has it all, a must try when in New York especially during a week day lunch or simply anytime.

Met some friends for restaurant week lunch. Greeted warmly by the hostess and was immediately escorted to my table. Restaurant week menu had enough choices to choose from. My friend and I ordered the chicken satay appetizer and my other friend ordered the lo mein. For the main course I ordered the shrimp dish and my friends ordered the branzino. Portions were adequate but most of all they were delicious! Usually the lunch restaurant menu does not include dessert but this restaurant did. If you want a three course lunch menu it would be at an extra cost but this was not the case. Desserts were fabulous! I will definitely return here. Wait staff was extremely attentive and we were not rushed out. This is a restaurant that people should experience. Please note they do have a prix fix menu for lunch which is not their restaurant week menu.

peking duck was the best I have ever had world wide it was moist crispy and so fresh the ducks are brought in daily it was amazing, the mignon beef was the best I have ever had so was the green prawns along with chows noodles and eric our service was very attentive and caring he took total care of us, we loved it so much we went back again for the peking duck!

Ordered to take out Christmas Day t 3 pm to pick up at 6: pm Arrived at 5:45 Was told with an attitude it’s not 6:00 6:15!ready got home No fried rice 3 containers of white rice 1/2 duck - no sauce Chicken satay extra $6 sauce Spare rib Everything COLD NEVER AGAIN NOT WORTH A DIME

Philippe is my new world favorite Chinese restaurant. Extraordinarily good food. The chicken satay is very original and sublime. The Peking Duck is succulent and exceptional. The high quality of service combined with modern, progressive decor made this a delightful dining experience. BTW there are many examples around the world where restaurateurs have split up and started separate restaurants. Alfred's in Rome is one well-known example. Philippe Chow and Mr Chow is another. In my opinion Phillipe is in a class of his own!

Food was good and ambiance nice. I think it's also pricey compared to same quality or even better Chinese in London. Quantity well enough though and would definitely go back to try other dishes. Don't forget to book in advance.

Nice ambience , very wellcome waiters and quick service. Make this place an original Chinese experience with an interesting menu. Everything we have tried was excellent and really original , definitely a place to be if you like Chinese food.

We have been going here for a number of years and always get the Peking duck. This time we were disappointed. The duck was fatty which is not the way a Peking duck should be. Also in the past the duck was served as 2 portions, first with the crepes and the rest of the duck as a separate dish. This time it was not. The other dishes were good and the service was very good. We were in the back dining room which was good because the front room is very noisy. We will not go back and will try other Chinese restaurants for Peking duck. Too bad because we liked the restaurant very much and is close to where we stay in NY.

I had dinner with friends during a weekend in NY. I really enjoyed the option and variety of food, a very nice combination of chinese food, very tasty and well prepared. Be mindful, this is an elegant restaurant and people is well dressed !

very friendly place. Good food. Subdued Jamming club music vibe. Small space, you are close in with other tables, bar is in a tight hallway. Service is excellent. it's pricy. Would I go back? Yes for the food, but I'll be careful with drinks etc..

Disappointed with this place. We visited after seeing pics of the food online. It is very overpriced, and everything tastes like it’s been ladled with sugar. The décor is so dull and tired-looking. We definitely wouldn’t go back and begrudge paying what we did. Avoid.

We celebrated my sons birthday at Philippe and the food was just amazing! From the appetizers to the Peking Duck, our dinner was a grand celebration . The Baked Alaska was the piece de la resistance 😊

Service was awful. The hot and sour soup was cold. We had to ask for standard condiments. Our waiter didn’t ask how’s the food. No communication with the guest except a high bill!!!! Never again. The Peking duck was ok, we had to do it all by ourselves with no instructions. We felt the third of the duck was not served. The place in the back too loud. AWFUL SERVICE BUT HIGH PRICES.

Today my wife and I had lunch at this small, elegant East side Chinese restaurant. We only had a bowl of soup each and split an order of six steamed dumplings, and it all was delicious. The service by the professional waitstaff was excellent and although it was on the expensive side, for this neighborhood it was not overpriced. Our lunch bill came to $49 including tip and tax. They offer a prix fixe 3 course lunch meal for $29, which seems like a bargain, relatively. The small downstairs dining room was nearly full, with business people and some fancy ladies happily chowing down. The street-level bar area has three tables which seemed wheelchair accessible to me. We definitely would return to try a more comprehensive meal.

I am not sure why people think this place is amazing? It's another Chinese greasy place where you pay 15x more. The shrimp tasted like refrigerator. The chicken satay did not have any flavor, and the peanut sauce tasted like...air? Service was good though. And the chocolate molten cake was great because I guess it is not a house specialty.

A Chinese restaurant in prime location, with prices much higher than other Chinese restaurants, should have something better to offer. The food was bellow average, served warm not hot, piled on the plate with no effort for presentation, tasting bland. Most neighborhood Chinese restaurants do better than this one. The service was decent.

The staff was very nice. Standing alone, this quality chinese food. I had beef dumplings and crispy beef. I really liked the crispy beef. It was even beautiful to look at. The restaurant has little/no decor. View the menu online, there is a lunch special. The full price menu is not commensurate with the overall dining experience.

Classic Chinese in a fashionable and trendy atmosphere. Excellent mostly Cantonese offerings and a wide range of choices from classics to more adventurous. We had the chicken satay which was tasty but a strange red coloring. The meat dumplings were plump and to my liking. My husband had tempura prawns which were large in size and spicy and fresh. I had crispy orange beef that were perfectly prepared. We shared the fried rice which also had fresh ingredients. All served promptly with smiles. Not a cheap meal but quality.

You expect a restaurant that often has celebrities in it to be good, and Philippe is no exception. I ordered the chicken satay, pepper mignon and sea bass, al of it delicious-seriously I would buy the satay sauce by the gallon and pour it over everything. recommendation, order the chicken satay and the green prawns you wont be disappointed

We chose this as it was close to the hotel and we wanted Chinese. The reviews seemed Ok. What a mistake. The chicken satay was one of the top three worst dishes we have ever eaten. The chicken was orange, slimy and rubbery - not even sure it was cooked. The sauce was basically warm condensed milk. We voiced our views to the waiter who just took the dish away without saying anything. Kung pao chicken - sauce was OK, chicken again a weird, rubbery texture. Crispy duck - nice pancakes, duck disappointing as not crispy enough We left as soon as we could.

Haven't eaten here in many years but the brand used to be a NYC favorite when I was in town. Decided to pop in for a quick bite and everything was delicious. I didn't have a reservation but was able to get a table at 8p on a Friday night which can be difficult sometimes. The ambiance was fun and lively but not too loud that I couldn't enjoy a conversation. My old favorite selections were as I remembered them. Fresh, spiced well and plentiful. Tried some other dishes for the first time (prawns in black bean sauce and chicken won ton soup) and now have new items on my "favorites" list. Service was efficient.

The ambience gets mid town right on. The food is really excellent too.. especially the duck which is as good as you will find. It's only 4 stars because Mr. Choose is slightly better. Still great place for business dinner or lace to go out with friends.

This is by far my favorite place to eat in the city. From the chicken satay to the sweet and sour chicken i wish i could lick the plate clean. The red velvet cake is soooooo amazing i wish i ordered 2.

Haven't been back for 4 years and won't be back again. Food is terrific, maybe we'll order in. Crowd isn't your normal UES crowd......kind of funky. Peculiar service. Four of us ordered main courses to share and asked that they plate the food for us as tables are small. They wouldn't. They have a policy not to do that. They are the only Chinese restaurant I've ever been to with such a policy. Putting everything on the table made for a very uncomfortable, clumsy meal. Maybe someone should re-visit this "policy"

Finally tried out Philippe Chow. It was a pleasant experience, food was great, service was great and ambiance was really good. A bit on the pricey side, but it was worth it. We had the shrimp rolls, hot & sour soup, dynamite chicken, shrimp, rice, noodles and the red velvet cake. Everything was really good. Only con I can thing of is that the tables are really close to each other.

Had lunch here with an associate whilst in NY recently. We shared a bunch of dishes and everything was delicious. Highlights were the steamed dumplings, and some sweet and spicy shrimps. Very nice locale, quite ambient and great service. Would return.

Truly enjoyed the food. Everything was tasty. A great pre theater restaurant with excellent service. I have already recommended to friends

The food and service was beyond expectations. I came to NYC to visit family and have been very cautious during Covid. The staff at Phillips took every precaution and the tables are well spaced. The food was superb and I felt like the world was back. Gourmet food, attentive staff and lively atmosphere. Management clearly researched and executed on a plan to follow guidelines and create atmosphere. Will definitely come back!

Service is nice enough, and the setting is comfortable and spacious (in a worn-in sort of way), but our set lunch food was borderline-inedible. They make a big deal of the chicken satay - perhaps American taste differs from British, but we characterised this dish as factory-chicken extrusion clothed in radioactive Cheddar cheese. It was beyond horrible. The main-course branzino was (almost) equally unappealing. We made our excuses and left, marvelling at the prices some people are apparently prepared to pay for this sort of food - or perhaps they do better à carte?

Brought about 25 people to dinner. Ordered the Chinese feast, including the Peking duck. Have to say - all the food was outstanding. And plentiful. And they even threw in some extras. Good service. Will definitely return

I've worked around the corner from this place for 15 years and have passed it countless times. How did it escape me? Well it is now very much on my radar and I'll go there whenever I have a yen for Chinese. Everything we had was plentiful and wonderful. In fact, we have to go back because we were too full to have desert. We had 4 apps and 1 main and it was too much. We took some home. The service was excellent. There's not a bad thing to be said. Amazing experience.

What a fantastic restaurant! The food is incredible and the service is outstanding. The menu is very similar to Mr. Chow. White table clothes, cozy seating, and trendy decor makes up this restaurant. Every item we ordered was so good! Highly recommend!

had dinner with friends last week and no one was happy...worst peking duck ever...looked good but needed more cooking...when they served the bones (which i like) i asked that they cook them more and waiter said they can't do that...when my friend asked what kind of chardonnay they served by the glass the waiter said pino grigo or riesling...the fried rice was o.k...the beef (filet?) dish was too saucy....my martini was watered down...desert was awful...the waiter was rude...my husband and i had a theory that you have to work hard at getting a bad meal in manhattan...this dinner proved us wrong...

I was recommended to visit this restaurant so I checked the reviews on Trip advisor. I read some very good reviews and one poor review. Having visited the restaurant tonight I can honestly say that the poor review must have been from a competitor because it was the best experience of chinese cuisine I have ever had. The quality of food was above five star, the service and decor were also 5 star. It was not overpriced and was excellent value for money. If you want a special evening with superb food you must visit this restaurant.

I absolutely love this place. The food is very different from other Chinese high-end places and is simply delicious. The services is great and you can never go wrong by ordering what your waiter recommends. The prawn appetizer is the best prawn I've ever had! Crispy beef entree is another favorite of mine. Will continue to come back!

Went there with friends had on of the best meals of the year.started with the chicken satay and and shrimp satay with sea weed and some dumplings. Then we finished some spring rolls and duck.Eddie and the staff were on point all night

We had the Peking duck as our main course, 1 duck for 4 of us, this was absolutely superb !! As starters we had calamari, beef dumplings. And the vegetable spring rolls, all were great! We ended with the apple pie, caramel sauce and ice cream.... What a meal!! There is a great wine selection and the service was excellent !!! New York has the best restaurants by far!!! Totally recommend this place!!

The food was delicious with many of our friends claiming that it must be one of the best Chinese restaurants in New York City. I found the atmosphere a bit lacking compared to the food and although service was decent, it could be improved. Despite this, I still highly recommend it for the food.

Ate here at the recommendation of a local, with one of my business associated from London. First things, strange french name (yeah, i know, it's the owners first name), but you walk in and there is nice, clean and modern decor. Much bigger on the inside than you would think. We sat next to two locals and had all the american-ized Chinese food (chicken fried rice, kung pao chicken, chicken satay was also excellent) I had the crunchy duck salad (really good) and the black prawns (good, but a little bland). However, the two girls at the table next to us ordered the whole Peking Duck and i realized what a huge mistake i made. The duck is a thing of beauty and i really wish we had ordered it, but i didn't want to wait the 45 minutes. Nice wines buy the glass and good bar. The place has a little bit of 'see and be scene' with some of the beautiful people dining with us. I hear rumors some local athlete's like the place as well - doesn't do anything for me, but maybe that's your schtick. Great service, very attentive and (for New York) reasonably priced. Grumpy old guy rating: Two thumbs up - i will definitely be back.

I had hopes for a fabulous dinning experience, but my expectations for my friend's birthday celebration weren't fully meet. However, it wasn't all bad. Here's what I Iiked: - We were running a few minutes late and the restaurant held our reservation for a party of seven. I appreciated it. - The restaurant has a nice ambiance and offers gender neutral restrooms. - Delicious appetizers. Our group enjoyed our order of vegetable rolls, shrimp dumplings, Peking duck spring rolls, salt and pepper calamari, won ton soup with chuck dumplings, and the crunchy duck salad. What could have been better: Our dinner service was okay. After our orders were in, the waiter infrequently checked back in with us throughout the night. All of our entrees weren't brought out together, which wouldn't have been a big deal, but he said it would be. I ordered the spicy mignon and was excited about the dish based on the waiter's recommendation. It delivered on the spice but lacked flavor. My friend ordered the sea bass with black bean sauce. She loved the black bean but found the sea bass bland. Others in our group were happy with their dishes. For the price of our meals I felt they were cheap with the amount of white rice that was given to the table. Seven people ordered dishes that came with white rice, yet only one pot of rice was brought to the table. When we asked for more we had to request it twice and waited about 20 minutes to get it after the second request. If I was to go back I would be for light fair. I'd order apps with drinks and share family style. While my experience wasn't all bad, it didn't live up to my expectations.

Was expecting a truly good chinese dinner. Was here a while ago with my nephew michael. He had been here before and raved. Truly disappointed fro rice clumpy to ribs fatty. For the prices which are quite high. I would expect a better quality.

We had a lovely table for 2 along a wall with banquette seating. The wine list was very nice and we both had entrees we could hardly finish. We could not finish our wine, but the waiter quickly found a cork for our bottle and put in a double bag to take back to our hotel. The staff is very attentive. On 60th, it's close to many hotels, so take a stroll and do yourself a favor - try it. Reservations recommended.

Well, the food was excellent. And the service good. But unfortunately the noise level was deafening. As typical of these places who prize themselves on the "buzz", the tables were packed so close you almost couldn't get between them to sit down, and there was no sound deadening at all. I could hear my neighbor's conversation easier than my wife who was sitting across from me. I realise many people like to scream at each other when they are at dinner, or perhaps since they are primarily just looking at their smart phones the noise doesn't matter. But it is not our thing, and we wouldn't go back for that reason alone.

Gorgeous celebrity spot with the best Chicken Satay I ve ever tried! Lovely resto, on of my favorites in NYC! Would definitely recommend.

Chose Philippe Chow as a dinner destination a few days before my birthday and overall I had a pleasant experience. I used OpenTable to make the reservation earlier that day, and when I arrived with my guest I was seated right away and the table service was fast and efficient. Seems like a very popular location so it can get a bit loud at times. Food was good, however the Lychee martini was a bit too sweet for my liking. My favorites were the crispy duck salad and the vegetable fried rice. The chocolate layered cake and coconut sorbet dessert was rich and decadent, and the perfect ending to a night of indulgence.

Visited Philippe Chow's recently during a stay in NYC I must confess that I liked the low lit atmosphere and the food was nice, fairly standard Chinese menu not spectacular but not bad either. The staff were friendly and efficient my daughter noticed a crack on the rim of her glass and they waiter immediately replaced her cocktail so all good until you consider the price....We were a party of 4 we had 4 starters and 3 entrees with 2 rice bowls, 4 cocktails and a bottle of wine....$380 before tip....We ordered "standard" Chinese food we're not talking steak and lobster here so I was frankly stunned by the cost and for that reason couldn't recommend this restaurant based solely on that fact....if you want to eat at Philippe Chow get a mortgage first...

you gotta with friends/family so you can share plates, their menu deserve all to be tried, they master a unique sauce that gives a luxurious flavor and taste.. very tasty and PRICEY too their satay is a must ..

Have walked past many times but thought it was just another French bistro Get through the doors and a new world appears Tres chic atmosphere ....nice background trendy music Service is non parallel ...customer focused and responsive without intrusion Chinese food to die for.....shrimp dumplings, kale appetizer , incredible chicken curry Nice spirits to accompany All in Club like setting without the noise and Club riff raff......very impressive

I've been to Philippe's on multiple occasions and every time I experience a new culinary masterpiece. The lunch special is an amazing deal and delicious, but I definitely wouldn't skip the opportunity to eat dinner here either. The atmosphere is excellent, although our waiter wasn't the friendliest and treated me slightly cold the last time I dined here, the food was still amazing. Definitely recommend if you need new Asian cuisine.

This place! Incredible Chinese food. Highly recommend the crispy duck and the filet with peapods. Truly lovely outdoor dining setup. And fabulous, good humored server, Dennis.

Have eaten here regularly over the past five years. Love the food, hate the noise. Usually end up sitting at the bar to avoid cafeteria style seating. Tonight the noise was incredible as we were unfortunate to sit near a table of 12 teenagers with no adult supervision. Despite asking the manager and the waiter to control their level of screaming nothing improved. We had to just leave despite spending over $300 on dinner. We met the manager on our way out and told him of the situation and he just shrugged and said sorry which given the fact that we are regularly there and it is not an inexpensive meal is unacceptable. Proceed with caution, despite great food, spending $62 for a beef dish merits a better atmosphere.

Food was somewhat edible. And that’s all there is to it. But it was all of the same taste and not made with the finest snd freshest ingredients. Personnel at the front desk was arrogant and rude, waiters clearly not trained to serve in a supposedly upscale restaurant (e.g. whole fingers in the plate when serving you). In terms of value for money, this is a very low quality experience.

I absolutely loved this place on my visit. The lobster and the prawns was absolutely amazing. If/when I visit NYC again that is at the top of my list to revisit. The only down side is that it is s little cramped. But I would defiantly go back. I wish I had room for pudding !!

Went here for a night out with friends. Started my night out with the deliciously sweet Philippetini before starting off wth appetizers. By the way, everything here is served family style, making it perfect for a night out. Before coming, my friends had told me all about the chicken satays, and they lived up to the hype and then some. Each bite just warms your heart and opens your stomach up for more. We also split the chicken and lettuce wraps, which when paired with the duck sauce make for an incredible bite. As for entrees, we got the Beijing Chicken, which was far and away my favorite thing I ate the whole night. The sweetness of the sauce with the savory of the chicken was incredible. We also split the drunken seabass, which was melt in your mouth good. Can't wait to go back to Philippe!

I have wanted to try Philippe for a long time. I finally went this past week and it is now one of my favorite restaurants. The Chicken Satay is delicious and exceeded the hype. I never had crispy beef before and I really enjoyed it. The meal topped off with sorbet, which was very flavorful. This is truly a great dining experience

First time dining at this restaurant and we were all very impressed. We called ahead to order the whole peking duck which was amazing, as was all the food. The lobster fried rice was another stand out dish. Went with two young kids who also loved the food. Our waiter was fantastic also. Would thoroughly recommend.

Went with friends for dinner at Philippe's. There were 4 of us so we had a variety of dishes. They were all more delicious than we imagined they would have been. Except for the lobster for 2. For some reason this most expensive dish had a very thin sauce. I could not recommend it but the bass and beef and chicken were outstanding. Also try the duck spring rolls. Amazing. Otherwise I wis

Have been looking for great Chinese food on the east side for a long time. I finally found it. Dumplings, chicken satay and spring rolls, perfect. Lobster, house filet and velvet chicken were wonderful. Service professional. Prices reasonable. Did not find the noise level that bad. Was slightly taken aback by ball caps in the dining room.

The food is very tasty, but the whole experience was marred by very loud, bass heavy, electro-pop music that made conversation all but impossible. I can't believe anybody enjoys this type of music outside of a disco. Totally unnecessary, and it spoiled what could have been a very enjoyable evening. It was especially load at the hostess stand, almost loud enough to be an OSHA violation.

Americanized Chinese with local flare - the restaurant has a strange setting. Once you enter, it doesn't look like an Asian restaurant - it doesn't even have the fresh aroma of cooked dishes. Nothing wrong, just wasn't what you would typically expect. Overall, good food for Americanized chines.

We are tired of going to Flushing and Chinatown for food as we stayed in hotels more on upper east or west side ,near my family. IN P Chow ,we discovered chinese food prepared with high quality ingredients and friendly services , chef was Hong Kong trained at Bamboo garden in Happy Valley in the 60s/70s. We have been there many times , from 2 to15 in the party . All kinds of dumplings ,wraps ,satay( weak link) .Peking duck outstanding ( one hour advanced ) as good as best place in Asia. .Eggwhite shrimp just like n Hong Kong . They used best filet for their beef dishes . Price is expensive , but we find comfort chinese food that we come back to.

If you love Chinese food you MUST visit Philippe. As I sit on my computer in London typing this I'm reminded that my mind often wanders to thoughts of the best Chicken Satay I have ever had in my whole entire 27 years of existence. Me and my mum absolutely adored this meal and have told so many friends and family members to visit this place when in town. I cannot fault anything all the food was fantastic, the wait staff were perfect and the restaurant cleanliness and look was impeccable.

A classy restaurant just off Madison Ave. Elegant surroundings with first class attentive service. We all enjoyed an excellent tasty meal & with a great choice. The duck pancakes & chicken Kung pao gorgeous Well worth a visit

A horrible night. Extremely loud music (we asked them to lower it) people next to us screaming, not to mention the worse service ever. We sat for a while before the waiter came around to ask for our dinner order without taken our drink order first. When the food arrived the plates were just drop on the table without asking who ordered what. He seemed to be in a rush. Not to mention we each got our appetizers at different times. The food was ok nothing to brag about. Very disappointed over all. Never again.

I have been to New York 3 times now and look forward to eating at the restaurant every time. It is by far the best food. Service is very good as well. Would highly recommend!

Normally, NYC Chinese restaurants present staid choices for vegetarian travellers so when I dined at the upscale Philippe restaurant off Madison Avenue, where Rihanna and other celebrities dine, it was a pleasant surprise to find unhurried and courteous service. It began with the manager, Kostas Paterakis offering me a table of my choice which is rare in busy Manhattan The food was a modern version of Chinese food, a very pleasant offering for vegetarians who are hard pressed for culinary options in a city that remains predominantly meat-oriented. I found the server Dorian very helpful and guiding me properly in my selection of food. Probably the best Chinese restaurant I've visited so far in NYC with its nouvelle couisine that can suit international palates.

it seems one of the new (or not so new) in places to go to. Atmosphere very good and the food good!!

Trendy place with really good food and good service. Always book ahead. Order the crispy seaweed for a starter it is soo good.

Went with family and we thought the food was first rate. The Peking Duck was cooked to perfection. Unfortunately the service wasn’t quite as good. I wouldn’t say the waiters were rude, but they weren’t entirely pleasant.

I have been going to Philippe's for over 5 years and have been there over a dozen times. This past Monday I was in NYC and we decided to go there for a late lunch. I know they stop serving lunch at 3:30PM. We arrived at 3:20PM. The first thing I said to the hostess upon entering is " Are we too late for lunch? I know you stop serving at 3:30PM so if it's too late, it's fine and I completely understand." She looked at her watch and said "No, it's ok." She seated us and said "But you have to order by 3:30PM." I said, " That's no problem - we've been here many times and we already know what we are going to order." The waiter came over and seemed annoyed that he had a table at that time. We ordered right away - the appetizers came out faster than I have ever seen. I know they were all in a hurry to be done and have us leave, but a busy boy literally took my appetizer plate away while I was still eating. Our entrees also came out in record time. The waiter never stopped back to see how things were. We saw him when he took the order and when he gave us the check. We were not the only patrons in there. A man sitting next to us said he had just started working in the area and had heard great things about Philippe's but he was also having a bad experience. Despite everything, I told the gentleman to give it another try at another time because it really is a good place. We walked out at 3:55PM. That's only 35 minutes. I have never felt so rushed when eating. If this was my first time at Philippe's I don't know that I would go back. I think the part that disturbs me the most is I asked if it was too late for lunch. I would have preferred the waitress had told me yes, I was too late. If they want to be done by 3:30pm, then perhaps they should stop seating for lunch at 2:30PM. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.

Tried Phiilppe for lunch during restaurant week and it did not disappoint. They give multiple choices for appetizers, entree and dessert and everything was great including the service. We walked out of the restaurant stuffed, and I will definitely be going back.

We wanted to have a relax family diner, but I had to spend the night reminding these people what was missing: The main dishes arrived 40 minutes after the entries. Firstly, they brought just one dish and forgot about the rest. I had to tell one of the main waiter, who was completely lost, what was happening. You could see, a couple of times, the low-ranked waiters bringing dishes to the wrong tables... bad! really bad! It was very crowded and noisy. There are much better Chinese restaurants in town.

A nighmarish ambiance—super loud, screaming tables next to us—THE worst service ever in a supposedly fine restaurant. No drink orders taken until our meal order. Neither appetizers nor entrees delivered simultaneously, some in our party had to wait for a long time. Server looked like he was in the running Olympics, practically threw food down to run away, had no idea who got what. We were a party of six. The food itself—I get better from my Chinese delivery around the corner. The worst fried rice, scallions cakes, not one entree to rave about, certainly not worth the price. Phillipe Chow, ciao. Never again.

The vibe and the customers matched - a cool, clubby kind of scene (the music was great in that context)...but not what we were expecting and looking for (my fault probably on the lack of research). Unfortunately some of that crowd seems to think that dressing way down is part of the cool. However, the food made up for it. The scallion pancakes, vegetarian spring rolls and vegetarian hot and sour soup (heavy and moderately spicy) were a great way to start. The vegetable fried rice was pretty bland, but the black bass done two ways (black bean sauce and garlic sauce side-by-side) was exceptional: succulent and well matched flavors.

Had a leisurely lunch today. We enjoyed our lunch, service, and wait staff attention. House wine was also good.

My good friend and I ate here for my 46th birthday last October, the food and service was amazing, so much that we planned our annual ladies dinner there in December, everyone in our party was happy and enjoyed everything we ordered for our table.

We were celebrating my sons birthday. We had a party of 10. The atmosphere was great. In the front it was a little dark but once we got seated in the back there was better lighting. We tried a variety of dishes. The Chicken and beef Satays. The meat was tender and flavorful. The sauce was to die for. We also had the steamed chicken and steamed dumplings. They were better without the soy sauce they provided with them. For the main course we had prawns, sweet and sour chicken, crispy beef and surf and turf and the house Mignon. Everything was done to perfection. The waitstaff was very helpful and patient with our group because we could'nt decide. The meal is served family style and really the portion they said is for 1 can really be served for two. Without realizing that our bill came up to almost $1000 dollars but we all went home with doggy bags. To save a few dollars you can share the entrees. The drinks were good also but a little pricey

I went to Philippe for a group dinner on a Monday night. I’ve been to plenty of Chinese restaurants, but none of them stood out as much as Philippe did. First of all the restaurant has a luxurious and elegant design, which creates a classy atmosphere. Second and most important, the food. As I came with a group, we decided to try-out most of the dishes together, since none of us has never been here before. The food isn’t even close to something you’d find in Chinatown, despite the reviews I’ve read before going to this place. In my opinion the food served at Philippe was definitely from a higher standard. My most favorite dishes were the chicken satay, the crispy beef and the king prawns. I highly doubt I would find them anywhere in Chinatown just as good. Third of all the staff and drinks. As each part of the restaurant has its own waiters, the service is very efficient and professional. Never was there a moment when we ran out of food or drinks. The ‘mixology’ of the bar is something to recommend as well as they serve some very neat cocktails (in my case the Bangkok Banana and the Gun’s and Roses). Overall Philippe was a very good (but expensive) experience which is definitely worth trying. Luckily there are also options for half orders, which is still plenty for 2.

We could not have chosen a better place to have a fine Asian cuisine! we asked them to serve us the best of what they had and the recommendations were all delicious... The house mignon was perfect - prawns - amazing - lettuce wraps quite tasty - GREEN BEANS the best I've had.. I definitely recommend! We'll surely be back.

I am craving their food right now, the absolute best Chinese food ever. Everything was delicious the drinks , food the server i will be back!

Went to dinner with a colleague. Great atmosphere, great service. Food was phenomenal! We ordered a ton of food and everything in the menu was amazing. Will go again and again. Must have the duck.

In the years past we would love Mr. Chow's and its wonderful food. That has all changed. From its food to its attitude it has sunk below sea level. Philippe is more welcoming, the service is warm and helpful and the food is delicious. We go back ( the two of us),with friends and to celebrate an event with family. We love the satay ( ask for extra sauce--I drink it with a spoon and put it on everything else), the fried dumplings, the seaweed and just go from there!!.

Very delicious food. Decor is great. The service is high level. Very attentive staff. It is crowded, but the great cuisine distracts you from the noise clutter. Even the coat check people are pleasant. Try the cotton candy baked Alaska. Not to be beat.

Make time to grab some yummy Spare ribs and some great food at Philippe. Just a stones throw away from Columbus Circle. Book in advance to avoid disappointment.

We visited this restaurant for my 60th birthday celebrations. Whilst the food was generally very good the service was awful. The restaurant was full waiter seemed to be overworked, neither of which were unpredictable on Saturday night at Easter, so should have been better planned. One starter came late, we had to prompt them, then was a vegetable lettuce wrap not a chicken one. The wine was not what I ordered and had to be replaced. The main course worked to plan, but the dessert was not ordered, they merely came out with some ice cream, it seemed, to get rid of us. Unforgivable service which rather ruined the evening. The prices are expensive, even for Manhattan, nearly $500 for a meal for 4, so I would expect better service.

Family style dishes, all great Chinese options - dim sum, vegetables, meats, seafood, and more. Good food, good service, just pricey. Cocktails are good, but on the sweet side.

Sub-standard service and woefully tasteless food at premium prices. In a city filled with superb restaurants, I’m amazed this place exists.

Very close to Hotel Pierre- Snow storm and Chinese Cuisine - really, does it get any better. Super fantastic service, great clientele, and wonderful food preparation and presentation!!! White linene, starched uniforms, indirect lighting - and Kung Pao!!!
Love this Place
What a great spot. Not to be judged from the outside. Seems somewhat pretentious in the beginning but the staff are amazing, and well trained. Great service and food.
