My comparisons are to the many Pho places I have eaten at in Vancouver Canada. Overall ambiance is above average for the type of establishment, and servers were more friendly than expected. Had #0, house pho with tripe, tendon, brisket, rare beef and beef balls. The broth was very good, though not excellent. Noodles were wider than I am used to, and overcooked. Sides were good, though it came with cilantro (I am used to Thai Basil). Also had spring rolls. They were excellent (served with lettuce, which surprised me). Overall, very good. To be excellent would have to have noodles that were a bit less mushy and a bit more flavor to the broth.

I have been going to this restaurant for over 22 years and i have to say that the food is not as good as it used to be. The food is not as tasty ( maybe they have a new cook?) and the portions got smaller. I used to brag and recommend this place to my friends from out of town, I don't think i can do that anymore.

As if you couldn't trip on the sidewalk in China Town and find a restaurant...this one is off the beaten track on Baxter St which intersects Canal St. There are actually several similar restaurants on this street so make sure you go to the right one...For the price of a couple of dirty water hot dogs you get some of the tastiest meals with fresh ingredients. This place is a must for me each time I go home. You also know you are in a good Asian (actually Vietnamese) restaurant when the locals go there. The Pho (large bowls of soup stuffed with all sorts of noodles, vegy's and meat, chicken or fish) is amazing...you will never forget this place once there. Also directly acros the street from the courthouse and the old "Tombs" jail still in use...

I can never remember exactly where some of the restaurants I like in Chinatown are, so I end up trying new places half the time I am there. Then, after my meal, I see the place I was looking for. This is how I found this place. My buddy and I had almost the same meals, we had some shrimp rice rolls with a peanut sauce, very good, and a shrimp pho, very good. I washed mine down with a 33 Export, which the sold 333 in the USA, but the 33 works fine. My buddy had a bud light. The place was pretty busy the entire time we were there and service was fast and friendly. We sat longer than most for lunch and we had mentioned to the gentleman that sat and served us we hadn't seen each other for quite a while and he told us to sit as long as we like. The place is clean, with a modern look for Chinatown, sort of on the southern fringe of Chinatown on Baxter St. I went to the restroom, it was spotless and I poked my head into the kitchen and it was spotless too. Good food, nice restaurant, friendly and accommodating staff.

If you are nearby do yourself a favour and pop in! The food is fresh and very tasty, the staff very friendly and attentive. It can be a little slow but it's a cosy environment.

Came here for dinner, nice place, staff were friendly and food was excellent and good value, would certainly recommend

Transport yourself to Vietnam. Don't be put off by the cafe style look. Just like in Vietnam.... the less restaurant like the place looks the better the food. The food was freshly cooked. Using the recipes of the owners mother. Amazingly good. Will eat here again if I return to NY.

I've never had Vietnamese food before but glad I tried it! Very simple but great tasting. the grilled chicken that came with the pho soup was so tender, no knife needed! If I ever go back to the area, I will definitely be returning to this place!

We went here right after having marched in the Climate March last Sunday and were pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious, the waitress was super friendly and it was also a very family friendly atmosphere. A warning: they don't always get your orders right and they don't necessarily deliver all of the main dishes at the same time. So, we were a group of 3 kids and 5 adults, which may have made it more of a challenge for them, but they did get two orders completely wrong, so not only did the dishes come out slowly, but a couple came out incorrectly. Nonetheless, I recommend this restaurant both for the variety of food available and for the very friendly service. We were all so tired after the march and it felt good to just sit down and feel welcomed.

We ate lunch, ordering Pho. Portions are huge, but the broth takes like wAter. No seasoning and flavorless. Not the worst place, but given how many Pho restaurants are around, I would try elsewhere

Pho Ga.....Plenty of chicken, veggies plus an extra plate of veggies. The medium bowl is very large. Tasty broth. Fried pork rolls were very tasty, as was the dipping sauce. A great place to eat

The staff is a little different, less welcoming, but the maître d’ is friendly, encouraging and warm. Start with the Vietnamese coffee, thick and sweet with sweetened condensed milk and then poured over ice. Spring rolls are small, crisp and meant to wrap in romaine lettuce and dip into sauce. They are piping hot and delicious. Summer rolls are soft and wider, with the contents visible through the rice wrappers. I always have pho, with noodles, a heap of bean sprouts, fresh mint and purple basil. Stir fried and sauteed dished are available.

A small unassuming restaurant with food that packs a punch. I have tried every Vietnamese restaurant in NYC's Chinatown (Nha Trang One, Nha Trang Center, Bang, Bo Ky, etc.), and Pho Pasteur remains the best, IMHO. I have never had a bad or even mediocre meal at his restaurant. My favorite: barbecue beef on cold rice noodles with raw vegetables and dipping sauce. Wait staff is friendly and prices are excellent. The restaurant is a short block away from the Manhattan courts. Enjoying lunch at Pho Pasteur almost makes serving as a juror a pleasure.

No frills, friendly restaurant. Good fresh authentic food at good prices. Everything we tried was good, the spicy soups especially welcome on a chilly New Year´s Day!

Following our walk from the Port Authority Terminal we were famished and were looking for a particular Italian place on Canal Street that was closed. So we scratched that plan and through sheer luck, found Pho Pasteur and were glad to have done so. Once we entered we were greeted by courteous staff. The pictures on the menu made us anticipate great food. Both our dishes offered divine flavors from the coriander, basilic and Chinese greens on top of vermicelli noodles, with delicious Spring rolls in a perfect broth, enough of which that one doesn't need a drink with it. We both agreed that this had been a fine lunch.

The food was very good, clean place and friendly staff. The chilli souce for the pho soup was very good, think its self made. We ordered a dish where you wrap rolled thin beef stakes into rice paper with some toppings.... absolute favorite!

Pho Pasteur is a simple, unassuming Vietnamese restaurant at the southern outskirts of the Manhattan Chinatown. Clean interior appears inviting. The fare is typical for that cuisine, thoroughly familiar to me from my Windsor, Ontario years. Good lunching place for tourists sightseeing that part of New York City. My favorite appetizer - shrimp rolls wrapped in rice paper and served with peanut sauce – were as good as they come. That was followed by a portion of delicious Wonton soup – in spite of being ranked as “medium” in the menu – a fairly large bowl of it for one person. Main dish consisted of grilled pork served on the bed of rice noodles and very fresh bean sprouts, accompanied by a slightly acidic dressing containing shredded carrots. Service is a bit on the casual/informal side, but in that price range this is acceptable. For fans of inexpensive oriental foods - one cannot go much better.

just taste it ! you will never forget. We were there with 2 kids. Fast, very tasty and wondeful service. We ordered 5 dishes for 48 USD only. Found it from Petit Fûté

I popped into this quaint little restaurant on a whim after my travel companion had a craving for Pho. We went on a wander and stumbled upon this great little place on the outskirts of Chinatown in the lower East side of Manhattan. We walked in and sat down. The staff was absolutely lovely, as was the decor. I ordered the Pho Chay (vegetable pho) and my friend ordered the Rare Beef Pho. Mine was the first to arrive at the table. I took a big whiff of the veggie packed soup and was INSTANTLY back in Vietnam! After 1 spoonful I was in HEAVEN! TRULY AUTHENTIC and absolutely DELICIOUS!!!!! My travel companion said that her Rare beef Pho was the best she's ever had. If you want TRULY authentic Pho and Vietnamese food in New York you HAVE to visit Pasteur.

For some reason Vietnamese restaurants popped up all over this Chinatown block. Pasteur was delicious. The fried spring rolls were authentic and came with a bunch of herbs and lettuce, (coriander would be a nice addition in the future). The green mango salad was also very pleasant. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and fully intend to go back.

Stumbled upon this place on a visit to China Town. Many places had the same "American" style Chinese I can get home. We wanted something authentic, which this was. The owners were very courteous, the portions huge, and I found the place very clean. We left stuffed and happy, which has not been the case elsewhere this week in NYC. Highly recommend the Pho. Also, the mint lemonade is really good if you like something sweet.

My husband and I happened upon this place in Chinatown. We were thrilled with the food and the service. I highly recommend this Vietnamese fare!

I went here couple of days back for Dinner with my friend and the food we got was really good. I ordered Veggie Soup and Spring rolls in appetizer. The taste was wonderful. For main course, I ordered Tofu with Lemongrass-pepper and onions (V6 on the menu) and brown rice. Tofu was cooked really well and was spicy too. I really enjoyed the main course. I saw lots of options for meat lovers in the menu. There were families too sitting there and enjoying the food. What i found that this place is very popular among locals. Service is little slow. They take all the time to serve food. But very friendly. The food portion is good and sufficient. I think everyone who likes this type of food should try this place at least once.

Consistent Pho, no frills, but friendly

We stumbled onto this gem of a restaurant completely by chance. Having walked past the NYC Supreme Court on Centre Street in the direction of Chinatown, something caught my eye and I turned to look right down this narrow street (White St?) and there it was - Pho Pasteur! Address - 85 Baxter St Well, it is difficult to miss the red awning and signage. Looking in the window, we decided there and then that this restaurant should be good; and we were not disappointed. It was the typical basic, no-frills, pretty much run-of-the-mill Vietnamese restaurant - the type we love! Evidently half of Chinatown agreed with us as the small restaurant was crowded. My philosophy with restaurants is that you can never go wrong with a crowded, well patronized establishment. On that basis we went in and luckily we were able to secure a table. The menu was excellent with a huge choice of dishes at reasonable prices. Our dishes included Pho (sliced beef noodles soup) and rice paper rolls, and they were absolutely brilliant. We dine frequently at Vietnamese restaurants and this Pho Pasteur has to be up there with the best. If you are in NYC, especially if you are in the Chinatown/Civic Center area of Lower-Manhattan, do yourself and friends a favor by trying this hidden gem. The chances are you will be hugely impressed! Thanks for reading this review and my gratitude if you choose to rate it as helpful.

We ate here while visiting the area. It was the first restaurant that we seen that looked clean and had people in it. We ordered the spring veggie rolls and shrimp rolls, these came out and was far from what we expected. They were filled with glass noodles and the shrimp was really fishy. I couldn’t try these. They were both also served cold and seemed to be taken straight from the fridge as we had only ordered them less than a minute before they arrived. The main meals were delicious. We had the chicken curry and fried rice. Even though the food was nice I don’t think I’d be returning on our next visit.

Had the bun (cold vermicelli salad) with grilled chicken. Made for a good and very reasonable lunch near courthouses downtown. Service adequate if not overly friendly

What a nice (small) spot. Family owned, hands on... love it. Lemongrass shrimp, shrimp wraps, noodle soup. Tight and friendly here.. we will be back.

I went to Pho Pasteur with my family. I remember it like the best Vietnamese when I went 10 years ago and came back. My memories just came back and I can say again it is the best Vietnamese you will try ever. The place is nice and in middle of China town. The service is amazing and you feel like in Vietnam. For an hour you will travel to Asia an taste real Vietnamese food. The pork is the best choice to order

I had lunch here Friday and it was great. I loved the Vietnamese coffee served with press and condensed milk. I had a BBQ ribs with rice and pickled vegges. You cannot expect anything better for the price. It's very good and affordable. Great for lunch and it's a very busy popular spot but not overwhelming. I am eating here again tomorrow, I cannot wait!

I was introduced to this place by a good friend who claimed Pho was the bomb at Pho Pasteur. My expectations were exceeded. The staff was very friendly. The food arrived quickly. The restroom was very clean. Most importantly, the food was delicious for the price. I certainly recommend eating here.

Recently attractively remodeled, and renamed Pasteur Grill and Noodle, this Chinatown restaurant is definitely worth a visit. I've been eating there almost every week for a number of year. The food is consistently enjoyable. The owner and service staff are genuinely nice and helpful, and the items on the menu are very reasonably priced. I would particularly recommend the summer rolls, steamed dumplings, and soups.

After a large New York breakfast, we often had a late lunch. We selected Pho Pasteur after a wander through China Town. My daughter and I have had Vietnamese food before, and loved the combinations of flavours and the attack on the senses I wanted to like this place. It did seem like a family run place, with an extensive, authentic looking menu and we ordered. One shared starter arrived and then my families main courses. My order of Tay Cam was delayed, when we saw the cooks come and sit out for lunch it seemed terminally. However, this was only confirmed when I asked when it would be coming... It did however generate a ear bashing for someone, I don't speak Vietnamese but I know a telling off in any language. What I tasted of my families food seemed ok. It was not a bad meal, but more westernised Chinese food than Vietnamese. I would have expected a family run place (especially in NYC where there is so much competition) to have made more of an effort to say sorry. It's the first time I have had a whole main omitted. Easy mistake to make, but to be given the impression that it's somehow your fault, and not even offered a discount. Poor in my opinion. Given the positives seen other reviews, perhaps I caught them on a bad day. Would I go back? NYC is a big place and there is lots of choice, so probably not.

We were in Chinatown looking for dinner and stopped into Pasteur. Great food and very reasonable prices. Highly recommend if you are near Columbus Park.

I've been going to Pho pasteur for about 32 years. They have gret food. The PHO is # 1 of course, with Spring Rolls and Summer Rolls as well, all Good. This was the FIRST VIETNAMESE on the block, several years before Nha Trang. They're botth Great, take your pick.

standard pho

Stopped here for lunch with co-workers. Service was friendly and food was out fast. We sampled dishes we had not had and the hot tea was great! The restaurant was completely packed at lunch time.

Went here with mom while visiting New York. Happy to have found it. Really nice food. I had the chicken with curry over vermicelli and lettuce. Spicy enough. Very aromatic. My mom had the chicken with basil. I hate going to touristic places to eat while being a tourist :-) so I enjoyed it here, seeing only locals.

Friends have been raving so 7 of us met up today for lunch. Had summer rolls to start which were fresh and tasty. Five dishes from noodles to need and others including eggplant were shared and enjoyed. The Vietnamese coffee is excellent. The plates were a tad small to fit our food on. Place is small so can be tight.

I fell in love with Pho during the month I spent in Vietnam. Now I have to have my Pho fix. I made a list of Vietnamese restaurants in NYC with the goal of finding the best vegan Pho in NYC. This is the 3rd restaurant I have visited on my list and the Pho was delicious like I was back in Mui Ne. I gladly paid .75 cents extra for the vegetable broth which was superb. The tofu and veggies were fresh. All the add ons (sprouts, limes, chilies, basil etc) were there. I also had the fried vegetable spring rolls and they were delicious too. Meal tax and tip was $15 a great value in NYC. The only disappointment is no fresh coconut (can). Nonetheless I will be returning Pho sho!

Great vietnamese food. Obviously made on fresh ingredients and made by a proper chef that cared about every dish. Slightly detached but polite service.

We joined friends here for dinner in Chinatown last night after they recommended it to us. They have dined here many times previously and have always enjoyed the food. I wish we had suggested going elsewhere b/c this was perhaps one of the worst meals that I've ever been served. It wasn't even what the owner agreed to serve me when I explained that I had multiple food allergies (wheat, soy, eggs and shellfish). He suggested a chicken and broccoli stir fry in a garlic sauce served over rice noodles (vermicelli). What I received was half of a bowl of chopped lettuce, half of a bowl of plain steamed rice noodles, four meager pieces of steamed chicken and lemongrass seasoning. When it arrived, I sent it back. The owner re-delivered it to my table and told me it was for me. I told him it was missing key ingredients and told him it contained items that I didn't want. I also told him it was void of any sauce, garlic or otherwise. Blink. Blink. I tried to eat...really I did....but my dish was as horrible as the customer service that I received. Finally, I told the owner to bring me a bowl of chicken broth so I could make my own version of Chicken Pho and it became barely tolerable. My husband and the other couple enjoyed their meals, all prepared as ordered, but my experience was a dismal experience.

With my lovely daughter, son in law, and sister, and we so in the mood and then we came in and had an incredible tasty and precious meal.

Muito Bom

This place was just perfect for light lunch/dinner fare with out breaking the bank. was very fresh and authentic! I highly recommend this place!

Sometimes it pays to wander down the side streets and find the little jewels tucked away. Such is the case here, just a half block off Canal Street. The owner is hands-on, it's a small place, clean, and all the odors are of a pleasant nature. They have a large menu and the owner is happy to assist with your selections. We had a terrific lunch here and will definitely be back on future trips to NYC. "Cam On"

The service was bad even though it wasn't that busy. We had to ask for the check several times before we got it. Noodles were not tasty and other dishes either. One dish was good with broth though. Expensive for what you got compared to other restaurants in the area.

I cannot rate this place highly enough, it is a true hidden gem and well worth a visit if you are in NYC we first discovered this restaurant five years ago looking for somewhere to avoid the rain in China town and had one of the best meals in our lives! When we booked our return trip to the city it was top of out to do list! This is a tiny family run restaurant that serves the best Vietnamese food you will ever experience at great value prices, the portions are huge (be warned!) and the choice so varied it can be difficult to decide! They even offered to create me a dish that was not on the menu and it was delicious! We were greeted with foc Chinese tea on our arrival which was very welcome! Thank you to the team we can't wait to come back - hopefully it won't be so long next time!

First time in China town, maybe that s why I had lots of expectations around food. Tried this restaurant, variety wise is very good. Taste is just OK, and the dumplings had too much oil.

As always a delicious, reasonable lunch here. Shrimp rolls, unfried followed by a seafood and rice dish and a shrimp pho soup. Tea of course, under $20.place was full at1pm.

Oh wow, where do I start? The happy welcome, the cosy interior, the huge menu? This place is so good, we walked twice from the Lower East Side to get here and we weren't disappointed! The food is simply exceptional. Good sized portions of well cooked, well seasoned, fresh food that we've seldom had bettered anywhere. If you're in NYC, whether you're on a budget or not, it's well worth a visit, we can't recommend the place highly enough.

In China Town, this restaurant is a step up from many as regards decor and tables, albeit, a bit crowded. Sunday brunch time was busy so service was a bit slow. But food was worth the wait. I had a pork chop dish that was excellent; another diner had a bar-b-que beef dish that was quite good. The soups with noodles and meat were gobbled down. And, the prices are great. Down side: the tomatoes on the side with the pork chop were not ripe: tough and white plasticy.

Order their basic Pho (number 1 on the menu) and you won't be disappointed. We love Pho and have been going to this place about 3 years. The interior of the restaurant is very minimalistic, but the cooking is great. And very consistent - always the same clear and flavorful broth, fresh thinly sliced beef and tasteful rice noodles. Highly recommended!

Family run restaurant, very nice food and big portions. I had the vermicelli noodles with grilled squid and spring rolls $9.50. Glass of wine was huge for $6. The food was very very good. I didnt wait very long but as the restaurant started to get busy the service slipped. Orders were coming out incorrectly and the family were very stressed.

Terrible food terrible service. Never ever waste your time there. Pho was cold. How can a pho possibly be cold? Service was a total nightmare. A server never checked on our table and he even yelled and stared us to order fast. Surprisingly, white family next to our table seemed to be served nicely. I guess they just assumed we are dumb tourists from far east. I have never had such preferential treatment in states.

We came across this little gem while wandering through Chinatown. It's also know as Pasteur Grill and Bakery. Small inside but quick, efficient and clean service. Reasonably priced as well. Worth the stop and won't take a lot of time to eat if you have other sightseeing to do.

The soup is not hot (temperature) and the flavor is like hot water. Beef is dry.bean sprout is fresh. I don't recommend this dish. I am not sure other dishes.

Have been frequenting Pho Pasteur for probably 20 years. One word Phosensational! Particularly enjoy the BBQ beef and shrimp and sugar cane appetizers. Their hollow veggie greens is also sensational. Pho Pasteur is Pho Fab!

the name outside is now "pasture grill and noodles." but the food is the same and it's delicious. the restaurant is small, but clean and cozy. the service is good. i had the grilled shrimp with all of the "fixins" to be assembled by myself in the rice paper pancakes. it was tricky and it didn't matter because it was the most delicious shrimp that i have ever had!!! there weren't too many of them, and they weren't very big, but yum, yum! (you have an option of having the shrimp in a pancake or in lettuce cups.) i would go back just for a big order of the shrimp. i also had chicken fried rice, but it wasn't as wonderful as the shrimp. china town is still a fun place to visit and there are so many restaurants to chose from, but if you want something different go to pasture grill and noodles. hope you enjoy it, too!

Excellent food and great sevice! If you are looking for real and authentic Vietnamese food this is the place. In the heart of Chinatown. Order the Alovera juice!!!

Went there with the family for lunch. Better come early, for the place tends to become very busy for working lunch. We had a mix of excellent plates (fried marinated chicken was excellent) and very average one (spring rolls were kind of "elastic" and did not look super fresh). Service is typical of an Asian restaurant, you're there to eat not to socialize and logic of starters / entrees is not followed up by the kitchen. So for lunch is very ok, but watch out the prices as it can easily become lush more expensive than originally anticipated.

Clean and comfortable with good food & services. I went with group of Vietnamese friends and good prices and good food! Enjoy!

Tiny place, excellent service, I got there by chance a few months ago and kept coming back. First it was the pho - today instead my party ordered other items from the menu and everything was excellent. Tried other vietnameses in NYC Chinatown, this is by far the best

Enormous portions placed on simple Formica tables, good service. But... the food was disappointing, missing those genuine Vietnamese flavours. just a little on the bland side, not particularly good value for money and little atmosphere. It is OK too give this one a miss.

I had the okra stir fry. I always have okra when it is on the menu. This okra was so tasty! I'm going to try to have a cook recreate it at home in Florida. The two of us had 3 meals for variety and the bill was still just over $30...unbelievable!

As close at it gets to real Vietnamese food. Only the portions are adjusted to American standards. We had a great meal there last night. It's small and clean. You never have to wait long. We ordered a pho with different kinds of meat. Fresh herbs, lemon and bean sprouts on the table and the mysterious dark sauce next to the salt: this is the real deal

Formerly a bare bones noodle shop, the owners have redecorated with polished dark wood and mirrors. The glass topped tables with their condiments remain. The food comes out quickly, as if they're cooking only for you. Danny manning the register is friendly and welcoming. The pho is lovely and loaded with meaty treasures, silky and unctuous bits. Spring rolls are sizzling hot -almost too hot to roll in a romaine leaf and dip into fish sauce. The whole red snapper was dramatic, but fried a bit too emphatically and was hard to eat. Don't miss the Vietnamese iced coffee - espresso and condensed milk to pour over a glass of ice. Everything is served with fresh raw herbs and vegetables. What do I miss from the old restaurant? They had fried frogs legs. Like chicken on a stick. No more.

The place is always so full which was what made us want to go. Our food was delicious and reasonably priced for how lovely it was. The servers were lovely too, really sweet bunch of people.

Pho Pasteur is a very nice Vietnamese restaurant. Pho Pasteur is located just off Canal Street. I have been to Pho Pasteur about 30 times. When ever I am in Chinatown I always go to Pho Pasteur. They have a lot of Vietnamese choices on the menu. I get the chicken with broccoli and the spring rolls [not fried]. It is so good. They have tea for free. And the good thing is the food is cheap. So if you are in Chinatown go to Pho Pasteur. This place is the best!
Classic Vietnamese Cuisine in a Clean, Intimate, Attractive Setting
I've been coming here for years to eat in with friends and take out. The service has always been polite, discreet and thoughtful. Often, we share one of their huge bowls of pho and order a couple of their freshly made appetizers, usually the Spring rolls and/or Beef rolls. Another favorite is their green papaya salad. Their set price Vietnamese fried whole fish is a much better deal than their competitors next door and down the block who price the same fish dish seasonally and/or by the weight. They also have reasonably priced rice plates which are a scoop of rice and a scoop of entree - you get less, but it costs less than ordering an entire entree. Good if you are a single traveler. They serve beer. Also do try their Vietnamese coffee!
