For a place called, "Please Don't Tell", the word is out on these guys and what a terrific job they do. Reservations are strongly encouraged, but walk-ins might be available (if you luck into it). After your magical entrance, you are taken back in time to the prohibition, and an old fashioned speakeasy. We had the best bartender (Luis), and he dazzled us with his mixology. We started with the Maple Bacon Old Fashioned, made with Bacon infused Bourbon, Pure Maple Syrup and Bitters. This drink comes poured over a giant ice cube (more on ice cubes later). We also had the Shark, more of a rum sour based drink. In talking to Luis, we told him we were Zambuca fans, and he turned us onto to a Zambuca we had never had before (Luxardo), and it was fantastic. Now onto dinner, where we needed some food to soak up the alcohol. We sampled the Hummus Dog (Veggie Dog with Hummus and pickles), the 2Pok Dog (Deep fried, chilis, garlic, and pickled Daikon), and the Champ Dog (Bacon wrapped, need I say more). We paired this with an order of Tots with Cheese sauce (helpful tip, one order of tots is enough for two, but one order of cheese sauce was not). We snacked, talked, and watched the bar for the next hour. What a wonderful mixology experience. From the way the serve Absinthe, to the steel straws (a homage to the environment), to the different ways they serve ice. Yes, that's right, ice! I said earlier that I had a giant cube of ice for my Old Fashioned, but for my Dark and Stormy later in the evening, I had a longer, rectangular block of ice. When you go, ask the bartender to show you the "Ice Crusher", it was the highlight of the night for me (I was totally geeking out on the ice crusher). I couldn't have asked for anything more from a true New York Bar Experience!

You walk in to this random hotdog vendor and there's this telephone booth I am asked to enter and dial a number. "Do you have a booking"- by God I hope you do. For then the wall springs back and there you have it- one of the coolest bars in NYC!

When you name a place "Please Don't Tell", it is the intention that people will do the opposite. Now everyone and their mothers know about PDT. The last time I was in NY, it was clear it had become a tourist attraction. Let me ask you a question? If you are going to make the effort to find this place and wait to get in, why would you not also make the effort to put on something decent or interesting, at least? I know I sound like a granny (my apologies to non-naggy fun grandmothers). I'm just someone who appreciates a well made drink and cool atmosphere. The American Tourist look is killing the vibe. One of the guys donning his shorts and tennis shoes and ball cap that I was waiting behind rolled his eyes at the wait time and said he doubted it was worth it and ended up going somewhere else. I did not bother to tell him that it was, in fact, worth it. Despite the fact that it is old news to locals, a cliché hidden bar and now a tourist trap, it is still excellent and one of my favorite bars in NYC. It may be cheesy, but come on, that entrance is cool. That is reconfirmed every time I take someone new here. Beyond the entry, the drinks are some of the best in the city. (Order the Old Flame.) The bartenders are excellent and you can tell they enjoy what they do. The atmosphere is nice inside because you have to have a seat (thus the long wait). I love sitting at the bar. Everyone usually ends up talking to one another. I thought of a helpful hint to help pass the time during your hour and a half wait-- you can spend a part of that time removing your ball caps and fanny packs.

We had a great evening here. The ambiance was great and the entrance was so cool. A real good find and a fun way to spend the evening. Well worth a visit.

You definitely could miss this if you didn't know about it. Located inside the front for Crif Dogs in East Village, upon walking in, it looks like a regular hot dog shop. To the left inside is a phone booth where you "call" to speak to someone inside. I had come in with my boyfriend & they told me there was a bit of a wait so we had to sit at some of the tables with some others. The girl from inside PDT came out to get us, but she was so nice when she let me re-enact the calling on the phone part - she offered as my bf was taking a photo of me lol. Once inside, we sat at the bar & had a few drinks each. There are many appealing ones to choose from. When I can't decide, I narrow it down to 2-3 & have the bartender choose, or if I really can't, I have them surprise me. That was only a mistake when I was served a blue summery drink with an umbrella, in the dead of winter as I was wearing a turtleneck- too funny! In all, it's a dark, cozy place great for a drink with your partner or friends! A must-visit for the secretive aspect along with the perfectly-mixed drinks.

We've been there with my GF, first the guy at the entrance told me "you have to come back in three hours" (and the bar was closing only two hours later), we came back one hour later and that time my girlfriend ask and they told her "ok in ten minutes". Two guys were just before us the second time and they couldn't entry. So place is nice but don't like the attitude

It was pretty cool and super amazed that we were lucky enough to get in at 601pm, without a reservation...guess it was meant to be, as we were celebrating my 60th birthday in the City.

Really nice quirky place! Great cocktails, the choice is amazing! Would advise booking ahead as it is a very busy and popular place - if you can find it!!!

They did not let us in and were clearly very racist. I went there with one of my friends 3 times and they denied entry all 3 times. We waited for 3 hours once and still didn’t get entry that too on a Tuesday and I could clearly see the tables were empty inside when the guy opened the door a little to talk to us. VERY RACIST PLACE. I am from India and I even told them I felt they were being very unfair and they just shut the door to my face and denied entry for no reason at all.

The most original entrance that I've ever seen.Enter through Crif Dogs, and a phone booth is on your left. Pick up the receiver, and give them your name and you're in. They only allow as many people in as there are seats and there are very few seats. There's plenty of standing room, but nobody stands It is pretty hyped up, especially after being featured on Anthony Bourdain show. Service was excellent - attentive and friendly. Definitely recommend this place for a good time and drinks.

Took me three years to get reservations. Finally get in and I’m not the drinker in the group (driving!). However, the drinks at the table were well crafted and the food was tasty. They don’t use the phone anymore in the Booth for access so it’s essentially a small bar with expensive drinks in a basement. They do understand economics at least and the employ of the rule of scarcity maintains curiosity and provides an audience. I’ve nothing bad to say. But it wasn’t earth shattering either.

Great ambience and excellent cocktails. The novelty of the speak easy theme is quite charming as well. I visited this bar a few years ago, finding it nestled in a hotdog restaurant. Once you slip through the secret door its like entering a different world entirely.

it's definitely worth checking out, but it is one of the most popular speakeasys so it's harder to get into. The people I went with had to start calling 20 minutes before they tell you to call in order for us to get it. But the atmosphere is cool and you feel fancy going through a phone booth. The drinks are good too and you can order a crif dog from the hot dog stand you go into, which I definitely recommend.

Rocked up at 6pm and within the hour we were able to get in. The drinks were of an excellent quality and the bartender, Christian gave us some excellent recommendations. The whole experience was so memorable! Loved the entrance and the phone booth- just everything! If I'm ever back in NYC I'll go again!

Not worth the time or effort. Drinks are over-priced, staff is terrible, and there is nothing special about the place. The host in particular is rude and has no clue how to do his job.

Tough to find. Tough to get into. Worth it all once you track it down and get in. I would bring people back here!!!!

This place has everything you'd expect from the classic speakeasy - covert entrance, long waiting list, fancy cocktails and knowledgeable mixologists. We knew from the off that it'd probably be difficult to bag a reservation here, they only take reservations over the phone at 3pm each day. Our concierge tried but failed. However, we wanted to visit the surrounding area so we decided we'd try anyway and were prepared to kill some time. It really depends how badly you want to visit and how patient you are as to whether it's worth it. We went into the bar next door and listened to some live music before heading back in to have a hot dog and try our luck with the door man. We probably killed about 3 hours before we got in (if we were in NYC for longer we may not have stuck to our guns). There is no standing space in there, only seating, which explains why it takes forever to get in, but also keeps the actual drinking experience a rather pleasant and civilised one - no sloshing your drink through crowds of people here! The cocktails were good, and the bartender was very knowledgeable and accommodating - and they don't add hidden tax charges to your drinks bill! If you're a patient person and willing to go along with the whole waiting for availability thing with good humour, you'll have a nice time. Otherwise, there's a lovely little laid back bar next door for instant gratification!

The atmosphere here was wonderful! The space is very small, so I would recommend reservations (even on a week night).

Great little spot that may be difficult to access if you do not have reservations or you are not there when they open. Grab a hotdog while you wait. Will not disappoint!

Together with the Savoy and The Pharmacy in my opinion the best cocktail bars in the world. All the staff from receptionist to waiter to bartender are friendly and all have a amazing knowledge of cocktails. Please do not believe certain "best cocktail list" they are wrong One of my top 3 favourite cocktail places in the world

Such a clever, unique and fun place to go. Loved everything about this place. Amazing cocktail list with classic and more creative/ modern twists, served to you in a dark and sexy, secretive environment. Would recommend booking, as it's very popular and do have a Kriff dog next door!

Myself and my husband really enjoyed our post dinner drinks in this speakeasy. It's a fun concept to have to go through the phone booth and my husband was so confused (as I hadn't shared with him the deal with this place!). Cocktails were expensive but in line with NYC prices and they were delicious. A really novel idea and fun for a couple of post dinner drinks.

Probably some of the best cocktails I’ve had in NYC. Price runs $8-$17 per drink but well worth it. It’s not an original speak easy but definitely has the cool decor and makes it feel like it’s been there forever.

Amazing experience, you enter through a fake wall in phone booth locate in a hot dog shop. Once inside the place sits up to 50 people making it the ideal intimate environment to go with a small group of friends, significant other or a first date. Big cocktail list, so best to pick one and go from there or ask for a recommendation. Staff were great, friendly and extremely knowledgable.

We managed to get into PDT as walk-ins and were seated at the bar for about two hours. Honestly, it couldn’t have worked out better. The bartender—one of those legendary NYC veterans who’s been there since the beginning—was fantastic. I asked for a New York Sour (not on the menu) and he nailed it. They have some food items from Crif but also their own menu, worth trying both! Atmosphere is intimate and fun, very much worth the patience it takes to get in. The telephone booth entrance is just too good to miss! A bit of speakeasy theatre, but done with real craft and charm.

Cool bar, amazing drinks, nicest cocktails I ever had, really intimate, cozy, chilled out vibe, definitely worth visiting, !

Loved the entrance and subterfuge. Got in by waiting as couldn’t get reservation. Lovely atmosphere, great wee bar, cocktails fab, waffle chips with cheese sauce also surprisingly tasty as a nibble. Very nice staff.

This is a classic speakeasy. Hidden away, tiny room, dark setting, and great drinks. We loved it and had a great time.

What a neat little place .. located inside the telephone booth of a fancy hot dog spot! Went on Halloween of 2015 and had great drinks and a great time!!

Please Don't Tell or PDT is a fantastic little place to go and visit and enjoy some amazing cocktails and it is super cool that you enter it through the phone box. It is a little hard to find the first time but it is worth looking for. We tried several of the cocktails with the Shark coming out on top for me. However we ended up saying to the barman - "be creative and make us something" and he didn't disappoint - something which wasn't on the menu but was unbelievable. The food let's this place down - although it is a cocktail bar not a restaurant- but drinking this much alcohol you need something to eat. So why only 4/5. To get into here you need to book - there is no way you can just come on down here. But booking is difficult. You can book after 3pm but you need to be on that phone at 3pm. It books out so fast and even when we phone at 3pm on the dot, the earliest availability was 8pm. If you happen to arrive at the bar early you won't get in - you need to arrive on the dot, so it is a little inflexible. However this and the food is a minor slant on an otherwise great experience. Well worth a visit!

I heard so many stories about this place and was recommended to visit while in New York. Upon hearing that you enter the speakeasy through a secret telephone booth hidden in a hotdog shop I thought it sounded magical, however on arrival someone else called the phone and entered the speakeasy, we must have been visible queuing for our turn to use the secret phone because somebody opened the door and let us in just as we were about to use the phone. This ruined the magic and secrecy of the bar being a “speakeasy” and I was very let down that not everyone gets that experience. Furthermore, not being from the USA, we went to order our drinks from the bar as we didn’t realise there were servers who would come to our table to take the order. We were simply confused and made a small mistake, however the staff were very impolite and borderline aggressive in reacting to our mistake even though the bar staff were kind enough to us about it and didn’t seem to mind at all.

this cool bar is behind a little hot dog venue. The entrance is cool. The drinks and mixiologists very cool. Loved the little place with smart decor. No plastic, but metal straws. as the place is small, reserve or go get yourself on the list and try one of the many cool restaurants in the St Marks area

A huge contrast to the establishment you have to walk through to get to this bar- such a pleasant surprise and interesting concept. The bartender was very friendly and attentive- cocktails were nice and service prompt! Tad on the strong side, so be warned- at least you're getting your money's worth in terms of alcohol! We were lucky as we hadn't booked, but they offered a table for an hour. As their booking hadn't turned up, they let us stay and accommodated us well for as long as we needed. Fab little gaff with a lot of character! I'd recommend it to anyone visiting NYC.

Please don't bother....Sorry..I'm sure the cocktails are onehundop but having been told to wait 45 mins and dutifully waiting an hour and fifteen...I decided that maybe my hipster beard wasn't long enough! ...So many great bars within spitting distance of this place...spend your time more wisely..I implore you ;)

We went here on a weekday in January. We showed up @8PM. The waiter took our (french) number and name, and told us it will take 45min-1h of waiting. No problem. We went on another bar to wait. After 1h15 of waiting his call, we went back to Criff Dogs. There was more people going in and going out of PDT. We waited drinking beers inside Criff Dogs for about 25min. After this, waiter came to us and said he tried to reach us one hour ago and get a mute signal. Weird cause we kept the mobile phone with us all time and always had strong signal. Anyway, once we came in, the atmosphere wasn't so great (modern music- I'd rather they played 30-40's, no real decoration...), and the cocktails were average/not over the top. There are better cocktails bar in NY without the difficulty or getting in.

...but not really worth the hassle. They serve very good cocktails, but not te most innovative or tastiest I've had...mind, I pride myself on being a connaisseur of jams, bread, ramen, and yes cocktails. Bar is cosy and bartenders know their stuff, they do their job with gusto but keep to the script and the script is a tad narrow if you ask me...experimental cocktail club this is not.

I found out about PDT about 5 years ago on trip to NY. At the time it was so cool, we didn't have to make a rest, we just showed up and waited a few minutes and we got in. NOW it's a mess... you wait for ever and sometimes don't get in... on to the next place a million people don't know about.

There is something quite touristy - and yet still quaint about this place. Basically a cocktail and hotdog place. You queue to gain entry. Make a phone booth type call - show your id and gain access to a long thin room with booths and a bar. The cocktails are inventive and the menu ok - depending on if and how you like hot dogs. A bit on the expensive side - but entertainment and food and beverage x 2 (c $50) what is not to like. I'd return.

As per all the reviews you enter through cliff dogs. You ring on the day at 3 to book, we called at 3:45 on a Thursday and could only book midnight. They did say if we turned up at 6 there was a good chance of getting in, which we did and we did easily. Cool entry through the phone booth but the best were the sublime cocktails - whiskey/ sake/ drambuie was amazing and mezcal mule was beautiful. $17 each so not cheap but special flavors in a cool venue - now how often do you get that sort of memorable night.

PDT (Please Don’t Tell) in New York is a hidden gem for cocktail enthusiasts seeking a unique and speakeasy experience. The entrance through a phone booth in Crif Dogs adds to the intrigue. The cocktail menu is a creative masterpiece, with each drink expertly crafted and served in distinctive glassware. The cozy and dimly lit interior, complete with vintage decor, sets the perfect mood for intimate conversations. The attentive staff adds to the charm, making each visit a memorable one. PDT is not just a bar; it’s an adventure into the world of exceptional cocktails and secret hideaways in the heart of the city.

This was a really interesting find - a great flash back to what prohibition must have been like. A very cool experience and great fun wandering into a bar through a phone box! We arrived just after 6, without a reservation, and looking for a drink at the bar. Luckily we only had to wait about 15 mins. Spent a few hours in the bar sampling the cocktails and the bar staff were very friendly, the drinks fab (although not cheap, but hey, it’s an experience) and the bar itself is ultra smart. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the neighbourhood and surrounding bars were hip and heaving on a lovely September sunny evening. Definitely recommend trying here for a one off different night out experience. I went with a friend by this would be a good place to bring a date and impress them :-)

I wanna keep it short and simple WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! you feel like a superspecial agent, entering in a "normal" small restaurant. The hidden phone cabin is the entry for the hidden bar - I was lucky and was allowed to enter (so many had no chance!) very cheap and you even have goof drinks and fingerfood there! Would definitifly recommand it to everyone - but there's no warranty that they let you enter

Loved this place in New York. You enter a diner and then go to the phone Booth without asking and dial a number and a door opens. I was told by the person in Isle to come back in a hour did not expect to get in after I went to a jazz bar nearby to pass some time I was suprised that I got in with no problems. Cocktails were the best I had in nyc. Was later told by local new yorkers they had tried to get inside many times and failed so felt happy to have go inside.

This place needs reservations! It was a three hour wait on a Sat night. Make a reservation have some dinner and come back when they call. It's right off a hot dog stand. You pick up a red phone in a booth and call. You enter through a secret door. It's a tiny hole in the wall. The bartenders are genius. You tell them what you like or pick up from the menu. Delish cocktails- they don't give u light stuff either . One of those and u r liqueured up!! Fun decor on the walls. Restrooms on the side. I had a Bacardi thing with lime and orange not too sweet just perfect! A must try in east village

The experience of entering the bar through the phone booth was fun, but none of the $16 drinks were worth the price. Very disappointing experience. My recommendation would be to skip the line into the phone booth and head straight for the hot dogs and tater tots at Crif Dogs.

This speakeasy is the real deal. From the hidden entrance in a basement hot dog joint, to the ambiance; from the amazing bartenders to the drinks; and yes, even the hot dogs! This place hits all the marks. Highly recommend for a night out and something different!

Excellent libations with unusual but tasty hot dogs thanks to the adjoining Criff Dogs. Must try the Little Ma hot dog. Sounds strange but really good.

Despite having to book very early in advance (not the kind of bar that you can just "drop in" for a drink as they are usually very busy) the whole experience of this particular speakeasy bar was great. The cocktails they offer are some of the best in New York that I have experienced, and would highly recommend this to people with a bit of time in NYC and can book in advance.

My daughter found this bar online prior to a trip to NYC. They only take day of reservations beginning at 3:00p. Within 1.5 hours all reservations were booked. We arrived at 9:00p and were put on a three hour waiting list for seating at the bar (only 13 seats). We ate dinner and luckily, they called us in about 2 hours. The entry is in through a phone booth within Crif's Dogs in the East Village. The bar is quite small but the cocktails are very good. The bartender made a very good recommendation when I described what I like. I would recommend only if you don't mind waiting or if you can get a reservation.

Interesting concept. Worth to experience at least once. A bit overpriced, but you pay for concept. It's what you expect in NY!

People, how could a place have 1900 excellent reviews out of 2100? That is statistically impossible. This is an artificially stacked rating. We’ve had dinner there, unfortunately more than once and the last time was December 2019. Service was so slow. Granted, you can get a private experience, but the food quality is just OK AND YOU HAVE TO COOK! They are over priced, over hyped. THEIR RATING IS BOGUS! They must have minions posting positive ratings with regularity under multiple accounts. DON’T BUY IN! GO SOME PLACE ELSE! DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

The closest thing to a speak easy you will find. However, even on a Monday night, I had to wait half an hour. You go to the pay phone to put your name in. Don't just wait in line. That was our mistake. The bartenders are knowledgeable and helpful. Not being able to decide, the bartender asked a few questions and was able to select a delicious drink for me to try. There is a small selection of beer and wine, but this is mainly a cocktail bar with a long list of cocktails to choose from. Great ambiance with a fun twist. Plus you can get a hotdog while you wait.

Really cool speakeasy with a fun way of getting in. We didn’t have a line as we went on a Thursday. The barman Victor was soooo nice and chatty and fun. His drinks were amazing and delicious (black diamond and a g&t based one). The ambience and decor was super cool. Wish London had more places like this.

If you love cocktails and experiencing new things this is the place for you. This speakeasy is one of a kind and a must go when in NYC. Go there and throw yourself in this cool bar, have a talk with your bartender, they're skilled and nice! I advice to have the hot dog in the shop and not in the bar for a more chilled and local experience. Will go back!

We first knew of this place thanks to Anthony Bordain featuring it on The Layover and my partner was determined to go when we ended up being in NYC for a wedding. From 3 on the Friday we called continuously until we got through and after 35 minutes the tone was no longer engaged. We had managed to book one of the last slots for four and met friends there later that night. The entry through the phone booth was pretty cool but we were not given or asked for a password, like we expected. We saw a LOT of people get turned away though! We each had a hotdog, which were good but nothing compared to the tater tots, which we ordered seconds of. We also had a few cocktails each, both from the menu and custom made based on our preferences and none of us had any complaints. Delicious! Finally, the service was fantastic, we cannot fault our waitresses at all. They were friendly and attentive all evening. The bill was the largest we experienced in NYC (as we were on a budget) but it didn't break the bank and was worth it for a treat <3 Would go back if in town again.

Very cool spot - a bit hard to find and purposefully kept quiet. You access it thru a hot dog joint and the public telephone booth inside the hot dog restaurant! Very neat. You literally walk thru a door inside the booth to access the bar. Once inside: the music, dark ambience and mood is awesome. The drink menu has many different and unique options. Feels like a time warp but in a good way. Definitely needs to be check out next time you are in the East Village for a drink (or three!)

Slow service. I mean real slow. Static almost, and not like static electricity. Cocktails were poor, 1 in 10 was fantastic, but general quality sucked. Walk a block and you'll be sure to find a better bar experience.

This was our second attempt to go to PDT. Got there about 11pm on a Tuesday. Put our names on the list and were told about 1/2 hour. Woman who answers the door took my number and said she would call me. Told her we would be right back. Got back in about 20 minutes and noticed people who were on line after us had gotten phone calls. Went into the booth to call and ask what was going on. She finally appeared but said apparently we got bumped because we weren’t standing there. I told her she said she would call us which she didn’t have an answer to. We were debating on just going but decided to wait because figured we were there already. Finally got in about 20 minutes later. Bartender was very nice but the drinks were just OK. Stayed for one and left. Live just outside of NYC and frequent the city often. We have been to so many great bars and this definately was a disappointment. I would recommend going somewhere else before this one.

I've been to this speakeasy before and it's a really cool place. BUT, I made a reservation on resy for June 19 at 1pm (2 people). Three hours before my reservation time I received a text asking to confirm that I was still coming. When I arrived they were closed! Additionally an employee at Crif Dog's told me they don't open until 5pm. When I called the phone number I got a recording telling me the number was not in service. Really not sure what to make of this situation. I do know that reservations should not be accepted for a time the establishment is closed. Bad business and very inconsiderate.

We called them and they said no reservation was needed. Once we arrived we just popped in and they told us to wait 2.5 hours because there were too many people inside! What?!!! :-(

We came here for some dinner and drinks and had a great time! The atmosphere is that of a speak easy, the drinks were delicious and the food was good! My buddy didn’t realize that the hot dog he ordered wasn’t technically a hot dog, more of a brisket, but he seemed to enjoy it. My mother in law and I both god burgers which were delicious. I won’t ruin how to get here (plenty of people have already done that), but it is really cool and impressed my friends. The host and server were friendly, my only complaint is that the music was too loud and sometimes made it hard to hear. Make a reservation at PDT as soon as you can, and enjoy your visit!

The entrance to PTD is very cool. My wife and I arrived for our dinner reservation and were seated at the far end of the bar (minimal room for eating dinner). For cocktails, my wife ordered a Blue Shark and I had the PTD twist on an Old Fashioned, but was not able to get it smoked. The drinks were very good. For dinner we both ordered the PTD burger and tots... unfortunately, the bartender thought we wanted to share 1 burger. The bartender said he would expedite the second burger, but it never appeared. Perhaps this was due to food inspectors showing up for a visit. Although the bar area appeared clean, we did notice the inspector examine a bottle (pre-mixed liquid prepared at the bar) and note that is had to be thrown away as there were particles in the mix. Perhaps there second burger didn't show up because the kitchen was busy with the inspectors. We left disappointed after 1 drink and sharing a burger for dinner.

Called up on a whim since we were nearby. It was just 6pm. got in no problem only a short wait. Good cocktails, great TOTS

Visited 9/12, rang to make a booking but were full booked so went there for 6 to get a walk in spot as some are available, there was a queue but within 15 mins of opening we were seated at the bar, great cocktail menu, helpful staff and really enjoyed the drinks.

This is an amazing place the place is hidden away. If you didn't know it was there you would never find it. I am not going to give away the secret of finding it. PDT stands for Please Don't Tell. Goodlace atmosphere, was a very friendly I sat at the bar, and had a drink. It had red leather seats around the room. Highly recommended

I honestly just went hear to check this place. Yes it was fun & cool that you have to go through the phone booth to get to the bar. Aside from that it was just an ok bar. Nothing to write home about and there are much more interesting places if you are looking for a libation. All the same, it is still worth a look.

Given all the hype I kind of expected more than just an average cocktail bar. I did like the phonebooth idea though. Can't remember what time we originally turned up but was over a 3 hour wait to get in. Frankly, it isn't worth it.

It's a bit of a hassle getting a booking but all adds to the charm and well worth it once you're inside. You enter through the telephone kiosk in a hot dog restaurant! As everyone has to book in advance it never feels crowded. We sat at the bar and had a great view of everything. The staff were helpful and friendly and the cocktails were amazing, reasonably priced for the location too.

After seeing Please Don't Tell on a video about secret places of NYC, my wife & I just had to try to get in. We arrived at Crif Dog about 5:30 on a Monday and were 5 places back in line, which was about 20 people long by 6 o'clock. Despite our lack of a reservation, we were able to be seated at a table for 2. Once inside, we liked the atmosphere, but LOVED the original cocktails (no spoilers, you'll have to find out for yourself). Hot dogs not available on the other side of the wall were on the menu. We'll try those the next time we are in the area. I've been told that without a reservation, it is very difficult, if not impossible to get in on Friday or Saturday nights. Definitely try to get in!

Really fabulous experience. Great customer service, great cocktails, great atmosphere. Lighting is on point. Hotdogs look amazing too.

What a great idea, the bar is great, good service, good cocktail. Just make sure to book. We Waited an hour to get a table.

Traveled to the city with some friends and made sure to show them this gem in the East Village. It was a Saturday night around 9pm so of course but with a little bit of grease the hostess called us less than 30 minutes after we had put our name on the list. We were seated and immediately greeted by our waitress who was very attentive and knowledgeable. She recommended some cocktails which were all delivered in a very timely fashion especially considering how busy they were. We also ordered some dogs from Crif next door which were also sent out quickly. We stayed for a few rounds and while the drinks are a little expensive it is worth it for the genuine speakeasy experience. Will definitely be back.

A little gem in my favourite NYC neighbourhood in the East Village. The cocktails may be a bit pricey but they are so so strong! You can order hot dogs or tater tots from the Hotdog cafe that holds the secret entrance to this speak easy style bar. Get there early to avoid the queue. Sumptuous eclectic decor and great friendly staff - this kicked off our evening perfectly!

Recommended from a tour guide in Central Park and well worth the visit. Clearly from previous reviews, it is a busy location as more and more people are aware of it. The location inside a hot dog shop adds to the experience, I didn't know what to expect when I walked into Crift Dogs and saw 3 people huddled around a retro arcade game. Having entered the telephone box and dialled a door opened. The staff explained that they had a reservation at 9 but we were welcome to use a table before then. Good service (although drinks did take a while to come). Excellent experience in a place that would prove popular anywhere in the world. We were asked to leave at 9 in a polite and courteous manner as has been agreed upon entry. Excellent cocktails from an extensive list that changes regularly. Only criticism is that we did have to leave, so reservations are recommended. Must do for a different expletive in NYC, but please don't tell!

Fifth time we visit and quality still the same. Friendly service, high quality drinks, and relaxing ambiance. I had a chili dog outside while i was waiting for my wife and it was exceptional... Keep it up

Clever setup making it a little secretive & difficult to enter, it does give the experience a certain extra buzz, love that. Nice interior as well, with the dimmed lights, the paintings & stuffed animals. So why do I only rate it 'average' ? Well, the cocktails - at least the 2 we tried - were fine but not 'wow'. But the biggest flaw : we were expecting some nice jazzy tunes playing softly (after all, it's a speakeasy, right ?). But nope : it was some modern pop/rock music, and pretty loud, so it felt more like a studentish place than a speakeasy. I believe it was the bar girl streaming the music via her smartphone so maybe we were 'unlucky' and other nights it does have a more speakeasy ambiance. I'd still recommend to drop by though, even if just for the whole experience with the phone booth and so, which makes it different than other places.

This place is so much fun. Make sure you do your research on how to get in, I've been to a few private parties here and they know how to host and have a good time.

Visited Crif Dog / Please Don’t Tell for the first time. Difficult to get a reservation but able to get a walk in....get there early. Neat experience via phone booth. Great drinks and hot dog (Chang Dog) was also good.

Reservation very hard to get for a Friday night but I managed to score a 9:30 ressie, which was perfect after dinner. East Village is totally vibing at that time. Secret entryway was totally fun! Hostess was super friendly and got us seated by the bar with Victor making our drinks. Drinks have long names and fancy ingredients, and they were fantastic. I even got my birthday drink and a card from Victor and the team! Music was great but not too loud. I totally enjoyed the evening!

Absolutely loved the ambiance and cocktails, waitress was lovely attentive friendly and knowledgeable. Place is beautifully decorated with a unique feel. Only reason o gave 4/5 is we were seated in a booth right next to slide door toilets which everyone kept leaving door open too not nice PDT consider changing booth to maybe a high rise table and chairs, seated here ask to be moved as not a pleasant experience.

this is by far the best place iv been to in NYC the staff are all amazing. The lady behind the bar will make you cocktails which aren't on the menu and custom make them to your preferences. It's a real gem!

I had read about this place on things to do in New York. I went to New York last year and ran out of time to visit. This time a friend of mine suggested we come here and I jumped at the chance. I wasn't disappointed. We arrived late with no reservation and they managed to get us 2 seats at the bar. The drinks were amazing and if you want cocktails they have plenty of them. Very cool, very relaxed atmosphere. The speak easy maybe a gimmick however the bar that is hidden away is such a delight that I can imagine the gimmick never getting old

Knowing the place was “famous”, we called more than 10 times to book a table but nobody answered the phone. We went there to give it a try, but there was a 2 hours wait to get a table. When we ask the guy at the entrance if we could book a table for the next day, he said that we could only do it by phone.... When I told him that I had been trying to do so withtout success several times, the only answer was “you have to keep trying”. I don’t want to be seen as the anti-hipster one nor as the anti-amazing-restaurant-where-too-many-people-want-to-go one, but being told at the entrance of the restaurant you need to call the restaurant to book the table is just....... ridiculously fantastic... A couple of basic suggestions to make your “process” better: - give a pen and an agenda to the guy at the entrance so he can take the reservations - put someone to pick up the phone - if the 2 suggestions above are too complicated, put a voicemail on your phone - if none of the above works, create an e-mail (yahoo and gmail can provide this for free) Just remembering that taking a reservation should just be the most basic thing a restaurant should be able to do.

Wow. Just wow. I almost have no words because I did not know places like this actually existed! This place was hands down one of the coolest things ive ever done. I was walking around for about 5 minutes outside trying to find this “bar” or what I thought it was. Finally a stranger on the street told me to go in the hotdog shop.... I went into this hotdog shop where there were a bunch of people eating just like any other restaurant. You then have to go into a phone booth and dial a number and a actual secret door opens and you are greeted by someone in a dark secret speak easy. Not only was all of that so cool, the cocktails this place makes are AMAZING, and so unique! Absolutely call to make a reservation or you will wait a while. But 10/10 for this place for everything! I will for sure be going back and recommending this to all my friends. Coolest thing I’ve done in NYC SO FAR!

It is a very ordinary bar. Not bad, but nothing especial at all either. Limited food menu (just about 3 hotdogs and other fried stuff). Unimpressive pub-like atmosphere. Regular and expensive drinks (especially considering the amount of ice). The only thing that actually deserves a compliment is the entrance. Besides such a mediocrity, the service is... bad. We stayed for about 40 min. We ordered food and drinks. When we finished (about 25 min after) they came to ask if we'd like another round twice in a interval of less than 2 min. We answered that we would wait a bit (after all we just had 2 drinks and food). However, they brought us the bill immediately. We questioned why they've brought the bill (after all, it could be just a misunderstanding), they said that there were other people waiting for a table. In other words, pushing customers out was an intentional and conscious policy. So that's it. If you don't drink one glass after another, they will kick you out of this very ordinary bar with a cool entrance.

On Monday night we finally made it to the famous speak easy. The going through the telephone booth process was very cool. Also they have great French fries. The rest of the experience was a little disappointing. The cocktails were average and bartenders were way too busy talking to the staff.

We didn’t have a reservation, so we went at 6pm and had no issues (it was a Wednesday night). The experience of entering through the hot dog shop was cool - the phone booth entry is fun and a bit different! I had the ‘Planters Punch’ which was amazing, and then asked the bartender to make something different but similar and was given a ‘Katz Meow’ which was delicious. My boyfriend asked for a surprise cocktail based on his love of spiced rum - I can’t remember the name but it was great! He then got a ‘Korn N Oil’ which also was a surprise, and it was absolutely amazing! Highly recommend this place for the cocktails - ask the staff for recommendations and things not on the menu! We also shared some tater tots from Next door while we drank, which were really good!

Try to make day-of reservations if you can get through (it took us several tries) because you will love this tiny place. We went for the novelty of it, which is worth it in itself, and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the cocktails and friendliness of the bartender. Very enjoyable!

My sister and I tried to call PDT each night we were in NYC for reservations and finally got in on our last night! You have to call exactly at 3:00 (the day of)and try and try and try. I got through after around 40 attempts with a busy signal each time. You enter through a small restaurant that’s connected to the bar via a telephone booth. The people at the small restaurant seemed used to a line waiting to see if there were any seats available at PDT. Such a neat experience! Super small and intimate with fantastic cocktails! The staff was nice too! Highly recommend trying to do this if you are in NYC and want a unique bar experience!

I was here in 2012, so 'Please don't tell' may has changed over time, but I was really happy with my stay there. You enter through the Crif Dog Place: Once you are there you will use the phone in the phone booth to call the staff. As the place is not so big you should either consider a reservation beforehand or you try to enter first, leave your phone number and have some Crif Dog Hotdogs to cut the waiting time. I don't know if this is still necessary, but we had to have an U.S. phone number - I was lucky because my friend lived in the States and had one. Once inside the bar we tried the cocktails - they tasted absolutely delicious and were quite fancy. We had a few and had an awesome time :) The most extraordinary bar I saw in NY.

Cool place. We followed the instructions you see online and called over and over at 3pm. I called at least 20 times! We were lucky and got a reservation at 6.30pm for 2 of us. They don’t let you in early so make sure you just get there on time. We got a beer in the hot dog place while we waited. The cocktails in the bar were good however I actually struggled to find some cocktails that suited my taste. I like gin, vodka and rum and a lot of the cocktails mixed spirits like absinthe or tequila in so that was the only thing I didn’t like. A lot of them are whisky based too. The bar itself was very cool and I would recommend a visit. The food looked really good but we didn’t order any.

This speakeasy is Inside a hot dog restaurant. You have to get inside a phone booth and try to talk your way into the bar with a handheld corded phone! Once inside it’s a dark masculine setting with stuffed game trophies and strong bourbon drinks. Get an order of tat or tots.

Cute idea, long wait, but food, drinks and service were good. Make reservations if you can. Good experience overall.

I had to stop here because this place has been so important in starting the craft cocktail movement in the U.S. I arrived shortly after it opened for the evening, so I did not have to wait very long to get in - although I can see why bigger groups will have to wait a while, because it is tiny (the bar has only about 12 chairs, and there are only a few other small booths). I ordered a couple of cocktails, both of which were quite good, but the bartender seemed pretty wedded to the menu (I asked him to surprise me for one drink and he gave me one on from the menu). The food was a pleasant surprise, too, and I enjoyed seeing it delivered through a small hatch in the back of the bar.

I visited Please don't tell during a week long trip to NYC with my girlfriend. We got there early probably around 7pm on a Sunday and dialled the phone in the phone booth. The host told us that there would be around a 2 and a half hour wait and took our phone number. There are a couple of other good bars around PDT so we went elsewhere until we received a call back around 2 hours later. Inside the bar was quite cool with a number of quirky touches such as signs / rules in the bathroom. We ordered a couple of hotdogs from next door to accompany our cocktails. Would recommend a visit however strongly suggest making a reservation in advance.

Didn't have a reservation (hard to get) but showed up at 6pm. Was able to get a seat at the bar. We are both in the restaurant industry so we loved watching drinks being made and and asking bartender about all of the ingredients. He was super knowledgeable and friendly even though he had a full bar

Went here Friday night right at 6 pm and had the Shark drink and a Long Island Iced Tea both of which were good. It is a hideout place so not many know of it's location.

Worst experience ever. Put our names down, they didn't call us and proceeded to let the next 4 groups in before us. The host opened the door twice and made eye contact with me twice! When we asked them about it they said they tried to call but we didn't answer... But we were sitting right by the door. He then told us we were next and then let another 2 groups in. This is ridiculous, worst customer service I've ever seen.

Really nice concept, lovely hot dogs and the drinks were really nice! You can also buy the book! Fantastic

Difficult to find the place, but that's part of the charm. You enter into a n unassuming hotdog place and then a phone booth. You pickup the phone to talk to the hostess who then opens a narrow door on the other side of the phone booth. The place is really small inside but cozy with a small bar and a few tables. The wait staff was very nice and the drinks were great. A fun experience of what a speakeasy would be like.

Cute entrance, love the phone booth idea. Dark and mysterious inside, however the aircon was on too high for my liking. I also didn't appreciate the stuffed animals on the walls - not my thing at all. Lots of cocktails to choose from, if you can't decide the waiters know what you will like. They know each ingredient and explain the tastes perfectly. If there is nothing on the menu you like, they can even make something up for you. The clear ice is very interesting and pretty cool to see! Didn't have any food, so can't comment. Overall a place worth visiting specially for some interesting cocktails to discover!

Great experience. We didn’t have a booking but we were given a table straight away. Great fun food, good drinks, lovely atmosphere. Quirky entrance part of the experience.

My wife and I had a fun evening at the PDT bar. We rang at 3pm in the afternoon we wanted to go and got a reservation. The bar staff were very helpful, friendly and very knowledgeable about cocktails, it was a real art form for them. The was a basic bar menu, tasty hot dogs, a great cheese burger and classy fries. All very good quality and reasonably priced. The cocktails were not the cheapest, $15 each and the beers are $7. There is a fun atmosphere, good back ground music and good drinks, what more could you ask for!?

Turned up at 1am on Monday morning to PDT as our last Speakeasy stop and we were not disappointed. At 1am, we could get a New York hot dog from 'Crif Dogs' while we waited in line to make the call... our table was ready before our hot dogs were, but no problem, they brought them to our table! We walked in through the phone box and a fantastic little bar appeared from nowhere. This is NYC. We asked our server to choose our drinks for us (Gin based was the only parameter) and we enjoyed every single one. When last drinks were called at 2am, our server jumped straight in and helped order us one more round of gin. It was a great experience and we will definitely go back.

Thank you for the cool, unique NYC experience. Staff was welcoming, patient, and professional--waiter took the time to explain drinks and make suggestions. Definitely worth it.

great place, lots of fun, trying to get in contact with them, not so easy,, enter through a telephone booth from the hotdog place next door, crip

A-MAZING!!!! FANTASTIC!!!! Absolutely delicious drinks and impeccable service! Sam the waiter and Jamie the hostess were beyond incredible. We were a group of six that met up in NYC to celebrate a 50th Birthday! The staff at PDT was so accommodating and genuinely beautiful people! The drinks were some of the best we ever had! Don’t think about coming here…. JUST DO IT!!! Thanks for a stupendous experience!

Enter through the hot dog place to a phone booth and you will find yourself in the warm ambiance of a NYC Speakeasy- that is if you can get reservations. The small place is full of character and the drinks are imaginative. The hot dogs aren’t bad too!

Great hostess and drinks! You get into the bar through a burger joint's phone boot. They have a really good milky drink, it looks like a glass of milk. Its amazing, would go back just for that drink. There are tons of cool bars or near by in case you want to Speakeasy bar hop.

Cool speakeasy style bar, accessed through a phone booth in the diner next door. I had a house cocktail - pear excellence, which was well balanced and tasty. I didn’t make a reservation, but as I was on my own, I was happy to sit at the bar. Bar staff were attentive and also happy to let me sit there on my phone quietly. Drinks aren’t cheap - $17 plus tax and tip.

A true speakeasy in entrance and vibe, the staff (GM Santi, Head Bartender Doug and Bartender Chloe) all went the extra mile to ensure we had an outstanding experience to celebrate my wife’s 40th! We look forward to returning anytime we’re in the NY area. Hats off to this outstanding team!!

It’s all about the entrance. Cocktails are good burgers only option for food. Call at 3pm to try and reserve a seat opens at 6pm

Absolutely phenomenal! We didn’t have a reservation so we arrived at 6pm on the dot (not long before a massive queue formed behind us). After only a short wait, we were greeted, gave our name and a contact number and were told to come back in half an hour. When we returned it was an absolute delight. We were sat at the bar and the lovely cocktail waitress made the best cocktails we have ever tasted! You can also order food from the hotdog place next door to eat at the bar which is an added bonus. I couldn’t recommend this place enough.

Expensive but unique and very tasty cocktails. Getting in can be tough. Get there early and get on the list! The entering through a phone booth is one of the coolest things you'll do in NYC.

A friend took us to this great little place in the East Village. Very nice cocktails (manhattans, martini and planters punch). Get there early even on a Sunday night. Nice experience.

Really enjoyed our evening here. Its hard to find, given that its only accessible via a phone booth in a hotdog joint, but that's half the magic. Worth booking, as we had to wait quite a while to have seats come available.

Loved our visit to PDT. The experience getting into the bar via a phone booth is really cool and a novelty. The cocktail list is quite big and the I really enjoyed the cocktails I had. The experience is worth the $16 drinks. Our server was nice, it was a busy night but our drinks and hotdog arrived fairly quickly and she checked in a few times to see if we wanted anything else. I would definitely recommend to try at least once just for the unique, exclusive feeling experience. As other reviews have said, you need to phone 3pm sharp to make a reservation and it is recommended. We did thankfully get through after a few tries and when we arrived we were glad we had as lots of people did come and got put on a waiting list as it was so busy.

Me and three others were fortunate to get in around 6 pm and actually gained entrance with booth seating. Someone cancelled and we had the space until 8 pm they said. We ended up staying a little past then because they said we could. The servers were knowledgeable, hospitable, and had quick service. AK was our server and she helped guide us through the cocktail menu. I highly recommend the tater tots. The drinks were delicious. I highly recommend getting in if you can.

Regurarly reserved a table via Resy (you can reserve ONLY via Resy, no other options). Received both email and sms with confirmation. Entered the phone cabin at 9,40pm (in the reservation process is clearly stated that the table is kept for 15 minutes), on time. A staff member opened the door saying that no reservation results in their system and that they are not Resy. I tried to explain that if you have only one option to reserve a table you are RESPONSIBLE of that. Anyway, I waited ten minutes more and tried again. I asked very kindly to check again my name and they did not (same person, blonde person...not sure that they actually checked at the first round). Then, this person just brutally closed the door when I tried to show the email confirmation that included my name and hours. Guys, you are not the Berghain and should take care of your operations (and clients...). If the system reservation via Resy does not work correctly, fix it. Anyway, this is not the way to make food/experience. Very bad and never go there

What a fun place this is! Found out about this place from a friend who asked me to get a table here but could call himself If you want a table here you basically start calling at 3pm prompt and redial, redial, redial until you get an answer. I succeeded after 15mins and 84 attempts and given an option of 10pm or 12. We went with the earlier option in the hope there would be no wait for a table to be vacated - there is no drive from the staff to move people on and you have to wait for a table to come free - even if you book. The cocktails here are marvellous! They didn’t taste overly alcoholic, went down very very easily - and had the desired effect. If you get peckish then order the tater tots - the perfect stomach topper to easy the appetite, tingle the taste buds and absorb the alcohol. The atmospheres cosy and friendly; gezellig as the Dutch would say. Highly recommended if you want to try something different whilst in Manhattan and ‘almost’ as good as the Travel Writers Club in Belgrade, Serbia.

We rolled up to please don't tell and booked in for 45 minutes time and never got a call, then re-booked for an hours time and never received a call. We then went back to get told they could not fit us. So a good 2 hours wait for nothing. We have this stuff in Melbourne anyhow and it's probably better but I just dislike the dishonesty

This experience was so fun! Victor made fabulous drinks and was so friendly and kind! Reservations were hard to get but finally opened up on notify option.

If you are in this area, please try to find this place. You will have a fun experience entering this speakeasy (need to go inside the phone booth) The place is tiny but cozy. Plenty cocktails to choose but limited menu for bar bites. Good place for hang out with friends or for couple.

Got through on the phone first time and booked the last table for 4. Great cocktails, tasty cocktails all at reasonable price. Cosy atmosphere. Loved it.

We visited PDT after hearing about a speakeasy hidden in a hot dog shop. The bar is through the phone booth in Crif hot dogs. You go in the booth and pick up the phone to let them know you are there and then the false wall in the booth opens to the bar area when they can seat you. Unfortunately when we went, the wait was over an hour long and the receptionist on the phone was very curt. There were many people waiting in the hot dog shop waiting to get in. After waiting for so long before getting into the bar, the whole speakeasy concept there had lost its appeal. We were also sat right next to the door and our convesation was interupted everytime the door opened. The drinks we ordered were average. And the wait staff was not very engaging. We've had much better experiences in other bars in nyc and abroad. I think the long wait combined with just average drinks and where we were seated made the experience unsatisfying. We probably would not go back.

The idea is fun but make a reservation or be prepared to explore the area. The space is very intimate and the tables are quaint. Our server was pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed a verity of cocktails and a dog and cheese fries.

We went to 'Please Don't Tell' off the street without a reservation & were 'lucky' enough to be allowed in under the strict instructions that we had to vacate in 45 minutes for people with a reservation...so far so good. The waiters were snooty & unhelpful when we asked their recommendations as far as drinks were concerned. The drinks were lovely when they eventually arrived. However- we were reminded our time was drawing to a close which was fine & so knowing we had to drink up a friend asked if maybe she could have some water or coke added to her drink in order to make it easier to drink up quickly before we left (at the prices you don't want to leave the drinks largely untouched)- she was smirked at and refused.... Disgruntled we paid & vacated our table as requested - but were chased out onto the street & rudely informed that leaving 17% tip is not enough.... In my mind they were lucky to get even that given the poor, rude, haughty service we'd received. I appreciate there's more of a tipping culture in US but it's for a good service- not an entitlement. (I have paid a 50% tip before when the service was outstanding). They believe their own hype far too much.

My husband and I were in NYC last week and tried all week to get a reservation to PDT. After trying since Monday, on Thursday we finally got in. Our dinner reservations ran late so I called and the sweet guy that runs the phones/reservations asked where we were and said it would be no problem! Upon our arrival, we were greeted warmly and had our coats checked. We were seated at the bar and started a conversation with the bartender- who just so happens to be one of the NICEST people you'd ever meet! We talked cocktails and finally decided-- a beer and the national cocktail of Brazil - the name escapes me. The whole time, he never seemed bothered and was never instructive, just kept a nice flow going every now and then. He was honest enough to tell us that Crif Dogs are better than the pricier options that you'd order at PDT- which I totally appreciate the honesty! The drinks weren't outlandish and it was so cool to get to experience a place where Anthony Bourdain himself said "if you're just anybody, you probably won't be getting in here!" ha! Take that! Just call ahead and don't give up, and you'll get to experience it, too :)

We were in NYC for 1 week and tried to make reservation on PDT since we arrived. That's how it works: you need to call at 3PM to make reservation to the same night. We could not get reservation at 10PM, but they said they accept walk ins. So we went there on a saturday 6PM (the time they open) and when we arrived there were already some people outside. We asked the lady if we could get 2 seats and she said there was a 1h30 waiting. We left our phone number for her to call us when the table was available. So we went to another bar while waiting for our table at PDT. After 1h30 she called us and we were already on our way back to the bar. We entered the hotdog restaurant, opened the telephone cabin and ringed 1. She picked up the phone and opened the door to the bar. We could get a seat at the counter, that i think it is the best seat to get the whole experience, seeing the bartenders preparing the drinks. We had 2 drinks each and also tried their famous hot dog. It is definitely a experience worth trying but if i lived in NYC it would not be the kind of bar I would always go. Give it your try!

My son wanted to take us to some place fun for a drink, and this place certainly fit the bill. We were able to get in fairly quickly before the Saturday night rush. (Went to wait at The Blind Barber, and just as we were finishing up our drinks there we got the call that we could head in.) The bartender was extremely helpful. My wife didn't see anything that struck her fancy on the menu, so the bartender asked her what sort of drinks she usually orders -- then he made her some sort of tasty pineapple rum cocktail.

Please Don't Tell is a nice spot that even locals visit! Looks like a hotdog shop from the outside! I adore any unique speakeasy's and especially ones that are true to form. The line was quite long, but you put your name on a list and they will call you when your table is ready, so we went to a bar next door to wait. The wait was absolutely worth it!! Once you're inside the setting is much like that during prohibition. You enter thru an old phone booth which is super cool and very secretive! Definitely a place to visit if you're looking for a unique speakeasy.

Visiting this place is really an experience you will keep in your head for quite a long time. We got to this bar by a friend's suggestion saying "you should not miss this guys" so I thought we should give it a try. GPS on and there you go! We reached the destination and we entered the shop to see a burger house!!! we were dressed a bit smarter than this so we thought that we should just turn around and go. Couple of minutes ago and after a stubborn friend's request we stayed to have a burger and...Voila!!!There it was! We got in PDT but... i wont tell you how.. All I can say is this place definately worths a visit. Actually its a must.

We stopped by on a Friday night 12-1-17 at 10pm and it was a 3 hour wait. Grif’s was packed and it looked awesome. Did not get in.

Heard about this place from one of the locals, and sounded great. Look for the hot dog store, find the phone and dial to get in!

We visited Please Don’t Tell during our recent trip to New York from Ireland, and it was without doubt one of the highlights of the trip. From the moment you step through the phone booth, the atmosphere is something special, intimate, quirky, and effortlessly cool. The staff were fantastic: welcoming, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what they do, taking time to explain the menu and make excellent recommendations. Our bartender was the manager, and he was absolutely brilliant, a master at cocktail making and great fun to chat with, which really added to the experience. The cocktails themselves were exceptional: creative, perfectly balanced, and beautifully presented. You can genuinely taste the quality and thought that goes into each drink. It felt like discovering a true hidden gem and made for a brilliant, memorable evening. A must-visit for anyone who appreciates great cocktails and a unique New York experience. We’d go back in a heartbeat.

This place has a great setup, and the "secret" entrance via the telephone booth was a great concept. My friend and I were excited upon arrival and hoped to enjoy a relaxing night in a quirky, lesser-known bar with chilled music and friendly staff. Unfortunately, I didn't find the host or our server to be particularly welcoming. Being from the UK, I'm accustomed to ordering my own drinks from the bar when I'm in a small speakeasy. Nobody mentioned to us that a server would approach our table and take our orders, and nobody immediately came to our table. We were given a menu each, so we spent around five minutes choosing our drinks. There were small groups seated at the bar, and as our table was right next to it, I stood up to place my drink order with the barman. It was the barman who informed me that a server would come to our table, but he was very polite and offered to make my cocktail there and then as he wasn't busy. I just needed to tell our server what I had ordered. I heard chattering behind me, but I wasn't aware that it was my friend being accosted by the host who had leapt from her seat and hurried over to ask if wanted to move from our table to sit at the bar. When I turned around, I saw my friend looking confused and both the host and our server were standing in front of her with expressions that I can only describe as being condescending. Our server looked as though she had a slight smirk which could have been unintentional, but it didn't send a positive message. Clearly, we had made a mistake. The host and our server asked for a second time if we wanted to move seats. I leant in and explained to the host that we are from the UK and therefore used to ordering from the bar in small places like this. I didn't receive an answer, only a dismissive nod. The host didn't even look me in the eye. Our server then took note of the drink that was being made for me at the bar and took my friend's order. I wasn't impressed with the host or our sever's attitude. Whilst the barman I had spoken to had been very friendly and understanding the other staff members could have been much more polite. I waitressed when I was a teenager, and I was trained to speak to customers in a friendly and welcoming manner. If a customer makes an innocent error, it isn't hard to simply respond, "that's no problem, ladies. Please take a seat at your table and we will take your order". That would have made all the difference. Our server treated us better as the night went on but the lady who was the host didn't seem particularly bothered about any of the customers. When it was time for us to leave, we had to say goodnight to her first. If we hadn't of said anything, I think she would have opened the door for us in silence, which I find quite rude. I was also surprised by the music as I expected to hear soft jazz. Instead, we heard current pop music. To me, this doesn't fit the vibe of the bar with its dimmed lights and its vintage feel with the old telephone and taxidermy, but I understand this may be more of a matter of taste. Overall, it's a great spot. I still enjoyed myself and my cocktail was great - I can't fault the bar staff. I wouldn't come back now that I've been once as I don't think I'd miss out on anything by not returning. I wouldn't get my hopes up too high about this bar because it isn't a fantastic venue, but it's worth a visit. The host and the servers just need to be reminded that it costs nothing to be more understanding with customers, and a warm smile goes a long way.

PDT is the not-so-secret speakeasy in the Village. Enter through the 'secret' entrance inside Crif Dogs, but get there early. Line queued up at 5:30 for the 6:00 opening time. Fun little place, friendly staff, and the only place I know where cocktails and hotdogs (almost) make sense. See for yourself. and the password is.....

Loved this place, great atmosphere in a hidden gem found behind a phone booth. The bacon flavoured drink was delicious.

Yes, it’s very cool that you go into a phone booth, and ring a person on the other side of the door, no it’s not cool to be told “it’s an hour wait, go elsewhere and have a drink, we will call you in an hour”, go a block away, sit down with drinks to immediately get a call saying “your table is ready! Oh, you can’t come back now? Sorry we will have to release and just put you on a reserve list”. Once you’re in, it’s again, kind of cool, but nothing special, and no where near as good as Garfunkel’s! Shame. Expected so much more.

I did some research before my beautiful wife and I were to embark on our journey to New York City. One of these things was to gain entry to one of the few speakeasies that are still in operation...Please Don't Tell. To gain access to this wonderful place, you would do well to make a reservation, or show up super EARLY and hope for the best. We played it loose, and showed up early, and just managed to squeak in. In the future, I would make the reservation as it is not uncommon to have a 2 hour wait for a table. To enter, you go into the Crif Dogs restaurant and there is a very old telephone booth on the side of the wall. You enter this booth, and pick up the receiver. The doorman will answer, and ask for how many in your party, and whether you have a reservation or not. If you're in, the wall in the phone booth will open up to a magical bar. Its small (most speaks were), and dark, and very cosy. We were seated at the bar, which was exactly where I wanted to sit. The cocktails are perfectly prepared by some of the most talented mixologists I have seen. They are also super nice and great to talk to as this humble tourist can attest. I would easily say, that this is a must visit, if you are ever able to. Speakeasies are rare to find, and even rarer to get into, as many people will attest. But super worth it in my opinion.

The whole idea about slipping into a hidden speakeasy from the prohibition era is brought to life here. You can't walk down the street and decide to have a beer there. On a quiet night you could eat at the hot dog shop and never know it exists. Try to use the phone in the phone booth and the secret comes to life. Don't go for the cuisine. Go because it's fun to slide into a secret room for a drink.

My friend recommended this speakeasy to me, so we decided to give it a try. The protocol is to call the day of beginning at 3pm, and oftentimes the phone line is busy. We both called over and over until we got through and scheduled a reservation for 9pm. When you walk in, it looks like a little hot dog restaurant that people actually go to eat! We then walked into a line that leads you to a telephone booth. The hostess then opened one of the walls in the phone booth and greeted/seated us at a two person table. The bar was pretty dark, but was filled just enough with people that everyone had a seat and it didn’t feel overcrowded. The cocktail menu was fun looking, with an assortment of options. I tried one of their only vodka based cocktails and enjoyed it, but wanted something more. The server recommended an option that wasn’t on the menu and I LOVED it. We stayed there for a few hours, people watched, and truly enjoyed our drinks. We even ordered some cheesy tater tots that they bring from the kitchen of the hot dog restaurant. Really fun experience!! I will definitely be going back.

Thought we would give bar a try. Great place enjoyed our drinks the service was spot on we sat at the bar and enjoyed our chat with both bar tenders. There was a que to ring the phone to get in but it went quickly just shows how popular this place is

Everyone had been talking about PDT so we were keen to visit. We tried to get a reservation however they were booked out 6-12 despite us calling at 3.00pm on the dot with the phone answering...go figure?!? None the less we attempted a walk in, put our name down and were told it would be an hours wait. We went back after an hour and had to wait 15 minutes in the booth before the host opened the door. Her response to how much longer she thought it would be was ‘Well it’s going to take time but I can bump you up on the list because you “checked in”’! After getting a glimpse inside we decided it was a joke and In the end we never received a call and could have waited all night. To be honest it is not worth your time wasted playing games with hipsters who are too cool. There are so many amazing bars and restaurants in this city!!

This review is not after visiting the place. We have tried to go to this place almost three times now. There is always more than 2 hours waiting (even for a table of two). Sometimes they don't even mention how long it would take.

Best entrance ever! Amazing cocktail bar via a telephone booth inside a hot dog shop! Really good drinks inside. Def recommend coming here on a weekday as soon as they open, thats the only way you'll get a spot inside. Pricey drinks but well worth it. They're well known in the cocktail community and you'll find PDT books at most cocktail bars in different cities.

Apparently, Please Don't Tell is a bar with no advertising, a lousy website, and only a nondescript phone booth as a front door. In reality, it is a cool popular speakeasy that you can't get into, unless you're lucky! We tried calling their number for five days (they take same-day reservations only), but they had no reservations available. On a Sunday, we called at 3:15 and they had only a reservation for 2 people available at 11 PM, so we went there to try to be walk-ins. We we're lucky (at 6:30) and were seated at the bar. The drinks were pricey, but it was a fun experience!

Finally managed to get in to this amazing bar. The service by AK was outstanding, she suggested drinks based on our likes and they tasted great. Hot dogs were also very good and the Chang dog was a winner. Make sure you reserve a booth or get there early.

We put our name down at 8:30pm on a Sunday night. Had a hotdog, went next door for a drink, came back to check up and found there were still three groups in front of us. Went away to have another drink and got the call just before 11:30. We were really hoping for a spectacular bar, but when we finally got in it was, surprise surprise, just a bar. Completely overrated and I didn't enjoy my cocktail, although the bartender did seem like a pro and it looked pretty good. Wouldn't recommend.

Came in February and really enjoyed the atmosphere with a group of 10. Came back with no reservations and were able to get inside in about 20 minutes. Stuffed animals and very decent coctails. Snacks from Crif Dogs. Very good, small intimate bar.

This speakeasy has a secret entrance via Crif Dogs. Inside, you will find a phone booth on your left, that is the entrance to Please Don't Tell. Just pick up the phone and dial 1 in order to ring the speakeasy. It's a very small place so it's better make reservations beforehand as it fills up quickly. However, it's not easy getting ahold of them, you may have to try calling varies times. They start taking reservations at 3pm and they open at 6pm. Excellent cocktails, great experience.

We came on a Monday and line was long to wait to put name in phone booth. It was 8pm said it would be two hour wait. For what ? An expensive drink. Went next door to listen to live music and had a better time. They called us at 11pm but by then we were sick of waiting.

Well worth a trip. Great idea styling it as a speakeasy and what you have to do to get in. Cocktails were absolutely delicious too

Small hard working staff, small space~secret spot~There is bound to be a few quirks. The hostess was really lovely, accommodating and tried very hard to handle the businesses of this place. We enjoyed sitting at the bar, chatting with the bartender who has an amazing palette for coming up with seasonal drinks with unique ingredients. Good luck on getting through and in, and if you do, treasure the uniqueness of this bar.

The entrance is really cool here. My Wife and I arrived after mid-night and got straight in. Ordered a drink and enjoyed it. The staff were great and very attentive. Would recommend going. But if you're told you've got a long wait - I'm really not sure if you'll be blown away when you get in there. We were visiting NYC...so if we were told to wait 1 hour+...I feel we would've felt gutted. Don't take that negatively - it's certainly worth a bit of a wait.

We got a couple of hot dogs next door, then entered the phone booth. There was an hour to wait so we went round the corner for a drink until our time. We returned and went straight in, very cool walking through the phone booth. Really nice décor and a great ambience. We got a seat at the bar which was perfect. The cocktails were excellent, really well made, and the barman really friendly and helpful, recommending things based on our personal tastes. Definitely somewhere to try out, and would go again.

Guess the secret got out years ago....cocktails were ok, nothing more than a standard cocktail thou, not overly inventive menu. Venue is still quite cool, the a crips dig after was lovely!! Wouldnt bother again if visiting new york but a cool concept if not a little dated by now.

Please dont tell is a cool place with an alternative vibe – where they have created a hype around rather bland food (though the drinks are magical). Before you enter the restaurant, you pass through a rather dull and plain hamburger joint. The same hamburgers are served at Please dont tell, but with a nicer presentation. In other words – don’t come here for the food! However, the drinks and atmosphere are well worth a visit. Expectations should be: a hot dog in a bun with a lovely urban twist!”

I heard so much about this place and how is always busy. Yeah, It is cool that you have to use the cabin phone as a door bell but that's about it. The wait is about an hour sometimes even more. The place is very small and nothing very special from my point of view. Cocktails are good. Service is good. Probably a one time experience is just enough. I love that you can order food from Crif Dogs and they will take it to your table. TIP: if you get there right at 6pm when they open you don't have to wait otherwise make a reservation.

Called to be sure we could get in at 6. Had a dog prior, till 6. Didn't want to be pushy to get in. Yet there were others there being ya pushy to get in and arrogant too? Once past the booth and at the bar it was pleasant. Great song section. The booths would be great if four in your party, not sure for more? The drinks, all great. We had 4 total between the two of us, little wait on the snacks but so what. Really good place at the early time we went.

If you can find it, you must stop in for a blended cocktail. We planned on stopping for one drink, but the atmosphere and bartender kept us there. We tried several cocktails and enjoyed most of them. One was not quite to our taste. The food menu is rather small but once you know where PDT is, it makes sense. Despite the small menu, the cheese fries with jalapeños are awesome.

tucked away in an unassuming underground pizza shop, with some old furniture and arcade booths, is a well-hidden speakeasy, accessible through a fake telephone booth. once in, you get ushered to your own private corner, and start picking from a wide cocktail selection. service was prompt and friendly, very nice vibe. would go back again when in New York.

were told about this idea and loved it. rang the number every day for a month leading up to visit and go answering machine. left countless messages, turned up when we arrived and told they were too booked, asked if we could wait - no. terrible service, terrible experience.

Phone box to get in. Great help in ordering cocktails. Fun and nice friendly waiter. Delicious drinks. So glad we came . Easy to find too
Fantastic bar
This bar was excellent. You enter via a hot dog fast food place and then go through a phone booth. To get a reservation you need to call on the day at 3pm. Keep trying as the line is always busy. The cocktails were very nice and you can order hot dogs too, which tasted really good. They have vegetarian hot dogs too. The fries were also very good. It’s definitely worth a visit. They only allow around 40 people in so be sure to make a reservation.
