Cool place for brunch

By Paul C |

Pretty hipster in a cool part of town. Small., so you may have to line up. Simple but tasty menu and really friendly staff. Open kitchen where you can sit at the bar

A brunch so worth the wait

By CAfruitfly |

For our party of 4 showing up on a Sunday at 10:30, we waited 75 minutes for a table as they don't take reservations. The creative brunch menu (quintessential Californian) was so worth the wait. We started with sharing a mochi cake slice. For mains, the smoked salmon benedict and the lemon ricotta pancakes were outstanding, while the highlight of the meal were the house specialty potatoes--parboiled, lightly crushed, then fried to crispy perfection, without being heavy or greasy. Service is reasonably fast and friendly, despite the crowded conditions. The ambience is conductive for brunch--bright, airy, and spare, and good use of limited space. Enough noise to give the place some energy, although we didn't have any problems hearing each other. Tip: Farley's coffee is a few doors down, where we picked up coffee to sip while waiting outside.

Good breakfast - get there early, no reservations.

By William V |

Met a friend for breakfast. Had to wait in line before they opened but we got in in the first wave. The space is great. Biscuits are awesome.

Delicious but Overhyped

By Kim d |

Have been here a few times as we live in the area. The food is undeniably tasty but I wouldn't wait the usual 2-3hours. If you're happy to put your name down and go elsewhere for a coffee while you wait then this may not be an issue! Just make sure you don't miss your name. The lemon ricotta pancakes are extremely delicious, and their sausages with roasted potatoes also hit the spot. Cute interior with a chilled vibe.

Unique brunch in SF

By PJamesGreatLakes |

A great place for creative brunch. I sat at the counter and enjoyed eggs, potatoes etc, and strong coffee. Service is fast, in this light and pleasant corner spot. Music plays but not so loud that it precludes conversation. One of the best, and not far from the 280 highway, you can make it here from the airport in 20-25 minutes, traffic allowing.

Simply fantastic

By Brian G |

Great food! Great staff! Small location and usually love nag waits of 30 minutes or more. But the breakfasts are not to be outdone anywhere in the city. Give yourself a treat and order the lemon ricotta pancakes.

So great, we ate here twice!!

By Connie M |

We fell in love with this little eatery - locating a place that offers gluten free pancakes is a major find, and Plow one-upped that with house-made sausage! We had a small wait on both of our visits. On our first visit, we both demolished the Plow breakfast of sausage, eggs, potatoes and GF pancakes. So fresh and definitely worth the hassle of locating a parking place! On our second visit, I tried the recommended corned beef hash special, which was a major disappointment -- chewy to the point of inedible. Plow is very pricey. Nevertheless, we recommend Plow wholeheartedly!

Be prepared to wait...

By Fidias V |

When we arrived, the waiting list was about 30 minutes... finally, we had to wait for an hour. After all this time, you expect to have the best food in San Francisco... but it was just normal. Maybe I would come back, but I won't wait more than 20 minutes.

Best breakfast ever

By winterbee14 |

My husband and I came for breakfast twice whilst we were visiting San Francisco - the lemon ricotta pancakes and French toast are divine. We had to queue a shot while to get a table but it was totally worth it, we loved it!

Cute place

By Emma H |

We came for breakfast after being told by some locals that this was the place to go for breaskfast. There were 4 of us and we did have to wait about 20 minutes as it is a small place, although this was a weekday. Service was really good. The food was good but not what I was imagining after it had been hyped up so much.

Plow = Great Breakfast with a twist

By avazacopoulos |

The place is small and there is always a line to get in but it is worth it. The foor is excellent and we all loved it. A mixture of american breakfast and chef's imagination. DO GO.

Best Biscuits EVER!

By Tracey T |

Plow was out of the way from where we were staying but the reviews were so good we thought it was worth the trip. We were right. I would fly back to San Francisco just to have Plow's biscuits with honey butter again! The egg sandwich was excellent as well. Go early as this place gets crowded....not surprisingly.

Food was A-OK

By NJain27 |

I have mixed feeling about Plow. We wanted to go here for such a long time, but the long waiting times would always scare us away. Eventually - one weekend - we got up early to get a table at plow. It was 4 of us and we ended up waiting for 2 hours still (thank you Farley's for the coffee). Eventually we got a table outside. It was super cute, with the blankets to keep us warm. The service was good. Everything was great, but the food fell short of our expectations. We ate the french toast and pancakes. It was A-OK. Coffee was very good, though. Maybe I'll try this place again - give it another chance. I really wanted to love this place!

Delicious!

By Ardith L |

Every part of our breakfast at Plow was delicious. The biscuits are amazing. We couldn’t decide among several tempting choices, so ordered the plate with pancakes, eggs, potatoes and bacon. All delicious. Service was good until they hurried us out the door (and only a few people were waiting on a weekday morning).

Portrero Hill Gem!

By TravellerDavy |

Wow! This place serves fresh, unique takes on breakfast. We stopped in here for breakfast and it was absolutely fantastic. We ordered 'The Plow', which includes eggs, potatoes, bacon and lemon ricotta pancakes (incredible), granola and the pumpkin pancake. Everything was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended. This place gets full fast, so come early, or be prepared to wait (totally worth it).

Hidden gem!

By Tish C |

We found this place a bit by accident! We rented a place around the corner and stopped in Plow for breakfast on a Tuesday- no line! I got the egg sandwich - delicious! Go earlier in the week to avoid waiting-

Yum!

By Scott Dunn |

Our host and server were both very friendly. It’s a small restaurant, but didn’t feel crammed. The fried chicken sandwich was delicious. The sparkling wine option is quite good.

Busy, but the best!

By Bob_B_HH |

Plow was packed even late morning on a weekday. We were lucky to get a table for two fairly quickly, and really found the service to be both quick and pleasant. And brunch was delicious! The lemon ricotta pancakes are wonderfully light and fluffy. The house made sausage was also terrific, particularly if you like a bit of spice. Everything - eggs, potatoes, even coffee - were done just right. This is a bit pricey for brunch (if this were anywhere other than SF), but worth it for every bite!

"Dig In" at Plow

By Barbara G |

Headed for brunch to an off the beaten track restaurant called, "Plow" in the Potrero District of San Francisco. Although blustery and cold, they offered outside seating. We opted to wait for a table inside. The wait was 45 minutes, passed quickly and so thankful we stayed! The inside decor is earthy and organic with wood plank floors and tables and comfortable metal chairs. Decorations were minimal with large windows filtering in light. Clean and comfortable. Because of the modest interior, they can only accomodate parties up to six people. The menu was varied and reasonably priced for breakfast, brunch and lunch diners. No foo-foo coffees are offered, just a good cup of joe or a variety of teas to sip on. We ordered the plow special which was a large plate filled with amazing food! Lemon Ricotta pancakes were light, fluffy and custard-like...served with a small pitcher of warmed maple syrup, they were to die for! The four chicken apple sausage links that accompanied two eggs were lean, non greasy and flavorful. Eggs were perfectly cooked to order. Hash browns were chunks of unpeeled potato cooked crispy and were some of the best that I've had. Excellent wait staff...attentive and friendly. Felt like my patronage was appreciated!

The 2 hour wait wasn't worth it

By Top5Jamaica |

The food is fine, but wasn't worth my time (the 2 hour wait to be seated). They're so nonchalant about the fact that so many people are waiting to eat there, and not even free Wi-Fi on offer to help you pass the time while you wait! They should be passing out their fried potatoes on trays with toothpicks to all the people standing around waiting to get in to eat! Not recommended for groups larger than 5, because they just don't have the space and their largest table seats 5 .. they split up our group of 8, seating 4 first, then the other 4 about 15 minutes later. What's the point of going there together when you can't actually enjoy the meal/time together??

Such a disappointment

By 35Argyll |

I'd first like to state we didn't actually get to eat anything. As it was New Years Day we checked their website for opening hours and it confirmed it was 7am. TA reviews state it gets very busy so we set off from Union Square at 6.15am for the 45 min walk to ensure we got there when it opened. We arrived bang on 7; we could see staff in there setting up. The sign on the door confirmed it opened at 7. We sat outside the restaurant in full view of the staff for 20 mins in the cold. Eventually at 7.20 a very dismissive girl came out, told us it wasn't opening till 8am and suggested we 'sit in our car'. Firstly if you're doing holiday hours, it's not too much to ask that your website or at least a note on the door says so.... Like every other cafe. Secondly if you can see folk waiting outside, perhaps NOT waiting 20 mins whilst looking at them to give them the information. We won't return. Too many other restaurants with great service to waste our time here.

Popular and with good reason

By Steve P |

We found the place at random, by Googling "best brunch in SF". 2 or sites said this was THE place, so we headed out to a fairly anonymous corner of town and there it was. It was achingly trendy, with people trying just that little bit too hard to be cool, but the food was really excellent. The fact that there is normally a queue of people waiting has to be a good sign, especially in a city with as many places to eat as SF. We waited about 25 minutes, but they let us have some coffee while we waited. We got in about the time they had promised, and had "The Plow", their full breakfast. Eggs, bacon, nice fried potatoes, onions... and lemon ricotta pancakes with maple syrup. An odd mix, but it worked. Food very good, service was fast and friendly. Even though people were waiting outside, there was no attempt to rush things, and we had a nice relaxed brunch, just the right size. Everything is locally and freshly sourced, and you can taste the difference. Would certainly recommend this place.

Delicious find!

By 86jess86 |

After a 20 minute wait for a table we were seated and ordered the goats cheese scrambled eggs (amazing!), custard french toast (delicious!) and prosciutto and gruyere toast. The toast was delicious but the potatoes were quite salty. The drip coffee was great because the waitress kept filling up our cups and the peach lemonade was very refreshing. The menu wasn't huge but a good size with plenty of appealing options.

Great breakfast!

By tanygator |

We came at 730 on a Saturday, half hour before opening time just because I had heard about the wait. We were the 2nd party in line so we were seated right when they opened. Great food and great service, the host even offered us blankets because he said we looked cold! Would definitely come back.

Good, but not worth the wait

By JJ_SF_JJ |

I had the butcher's steak + eggs and it was good but nothing special, actually the meat and eggs were a little cold. The hostess was super nice, but honestly for me the place is not worth a long wait. I went there during the week for lunch and had to wait 45 minutes.

Long wait...good food

By Shane L |

We arrived a little after 9:00AM and were told that it would be a 90 minutes wait. 75 Minutes later we were seated inside. All of the breakfast items are good. The lemon ricotta pancakes are great nd maybe their strongest dish.

Excellent breakfast and service to match

By sfgranny |

We had a fabulous breakfast including hot fresh coffee provided promptly (outstanding service!) and then indulged in generous portions of breakfast treats. I had the combo with 2 eggs (scrambled dry just as I requested), extra crispy bacon, toast and absolutely amazing potatoes that were crispy (but not greasy) on the outside and tender (but not mushy) on the inside. Hubby had two thick slices of French toast that wowed him plus a side of the delicious sausage. We were seated next to a family of 4 visiting from Dallas and struck up a nice conversation. Such a friendly vibe with outstanding food and servers who anticipated what we wanted before we even asked! We will definitely return.

yummy breakfast

By Kaulostar |

this breakfast restaurant is out of the main centre. the food is great and worth the visit. though there is always a wait to get seated also there is no wifi either or anywhere to wait inside the restaurant offers seats outside and inside

Taking simple Breakfast to the Next Level

By Erik N |

We have all had pancakes - but with ricotta? Yum must try (share) 3 smaller 5” pancakes per order. Dungeness crab scramble with homemade griddles white potatoes is also a must try.

Food was great, service was not.

By weltexplorer6972 |

As usual, Plow has delicious food -- mostly the crispy home fries. I don't know how they are so good. Even though the restaurant itself is small, they had at least 3 servers for maybe 10 tables (?) but my table of two waited 10 minutes before someone came to say hello to us. We ordered coffee, but then it took another 10 minutes for them to look at us again, to which I held up my coffee mug and asked for coffee. The server came over and filled the mugs with coffee but didn't even apologize. Not worth the 45 minute wait for that, even if the food is tasty.

Hearty breakfast in SF

By teradactyltravels |

Arrived about 7:30am on a Thursday morning and had about a 15 minute wait. Friendly staff. Great sweet and savory breakfast options. I ordered the plow to get a sampling of their offers. Delicious, fresh eggs, hearty home fries and scrumptious lemon ricotta pancakes. Would definitely recommend if you're in the neighborhood.

You won’t be disappointed!

By Calig82 |

Great first time experience! Service was excellent, and so was the breakfast! The apple chicken sausage is so delicious! We enjoyed our breakfast so much that we drove from Half Moon Bay the very next day just to have that same great breakfast again! Whenever we are in the San Fran area and in need of a morning bite, this is the place we will return to!

Neighborhood Gem Gone Viral

By BuffBadger |

My wife and I were craving a good brunch before we headed out of San Fran and review sights like theinfatuation.com and others all had Plow ranked high. We know there was going to be a wait so we got their about 9:00 on a rainy morning hoping to beat some of the crowds, but we were met by a fierce line and wait. We got an estimate of 1hr, so we headed to the nearest Blue Bottle for one of our favorite coffees and did a little browsing as some local shops to kill the time. Once seated we enjoyed a great breakfast (not the best I've ever had, but a top 10 for sure). They ran out of the seasonal pancakes, but I was able to score one of the last remaining Chicken Tinga (think a spin on chiliquilas) breakfasts (those were two items noted on the menu as limited daily availability). My wife enjoyed a Eggs Benedict, which had an amazingly bright and citrus toned hollandaise with a side of their homestyle deep fried potatoes (I liked them for there crispiness, but not my wife's favorite preparation). We grabbed a pudding and banana bread (denser variety) to go with a smile on our face. All in I'd give it a 4.5, and worth the visit of you have patience.

Fresh and fluffy lemon ricotta pancakes - yum!

By whittney33 |

I live in San Francisco and wanted to treat myself to pancakes for brunch - after researching plenty of options, we decided on Plow and I was extremely happy with this decision. I got "The Plow" that comes with two small lemon ricotta pancakes, potatoes, two eggs, and your choice of meat (I got bacon). We also shared the custard French Toast that was a delectable dessert of a breakfast! The French Toast was extremely rich though so if I get to go again, I would go with a full order of just the pancakes! My partner got the breakfast sandwich, which was amazing. The light brioche and mix of flavors was spectacular. The lines are long for a reason! We arrived at 8:20am on a Sunday and were sat around 8:50am, but I'd say it's definitely worth it!

Buttermilk Biscuits, great service

By Swb3 |

Plow is a morning/brunch place only. The buttermilk biscuits are fabulous and its location is convenient if you are in the SE portion of the City or don't mind a short drive. All the food is of the highest quality and you can eat both inside and outside.

Long wait time but food was worth it!

By Nicole |

We got there early on a Sunday (8:30 am, they open at 8 am) but it still wasn't early enough. We had to wait approximately an hour for a table. Once we got our food however, it was totally worth it! Best potatoes on the planet and the biscuit + honey butter was amazing. Definitely recommend if you don't mind waiting outside for a table!

Awesome!!

By Heather O |

Do not miss the lemon ricotta pancakes! House made sausage was so delicious too. Plan on waiting awhile in the weekend but know it is worth the wait! Service was fabulous, too!

Worth the wait - you decide

By Ray C |

3 times in a week my daughter tried to get us into the neighborhood hallowed ground of breakfast eateries. 3 times the waits were an hour or more and to me not worth it. Today we lucked out with a 39 minute wait and it was worth it. The ricotta pancakes are not to be missed and shouldn't be buried under jams or syrups but let the lemony tastes stand on their own.French toast, fluffy spinach omlettes or smoked salmon they are all top notch.

Definitely worth the wait

By awfelix |

This nice little airy cafe served up one of the best breakfast my wife and I have ever had. We missed out on the biscuits (they were sold out) but the service was excellent and the food was to die for. We had Annie's almond flour pancakes and the breakfast sandwich with plow potatoes. I'm ready to take a trip back to SF just to eat here again. We ate this for breakfast on day 1 and were left disappointed everywhere else :)

Wow. What a great meal

By BradGBurg |

Best breakfast place in San Fransisco. The biscuit was fantastic. The sandwich I had was out of this world. Very cute place. Great coffee. A no brainier.

Best breakfast of US trip

By Laura L |

Loved this casual neighbourhood brunch place, well worth the uber out of the city! Great service, produce and plow plate was DELICIOUS!

Wait is TOO long

By Elizabeth U |

Tried this spot for bfast after reading some good reviews. Showed up at 830 a.m. (opens at 8) and was told it would be a 30 minute wait. The wait was actually over an hour. There is a great coffee shop down the street so you can go get your caffeine fix while you wonder why you are waiting so long for bfast. Once inside it took a while for someone to take our order and for the food to come out. The restaurant is cute but pretty small and seating is tight. The food overall was good, my husband had the pork chop/egg and I had the salmon. I'd go back if the wait weren't so out of control.

Great breakfast!

By Alexandra K |

Went there with my sister on a Saturday morning and although we waited an hour (yes people there is a line..) it was surely worth it. Fresh eggs, potatoes were good too but above all the ricotta pancakes!! Yummmy! Will def go back!

not a crumb in sight.

By Meagan L |

this is review is purely based on the food. i ate everything on my plate. everything. we arrived at the restaurant saturday morning just as it opened. the wait was a half hour (expected, and not bad considering the horror stories of waiting hrs for brunch in sf). we ordered the plow, which comes with potatoes, eggs, your choice of meat and lemon ricotta pancakes (perfect if you can't decide between sweet & savory) and an open-faced prosciutto and gruyere sandwich (with a soft fried egg + potatoes). the pancakes are delicious -- zesty from the lemon, ricotta gives the cakes some weight, but not overly dense. the potatoes are definitely fan favorites -- perfectly crispy and rosemary seasoned.

Worth the seriously long wait

By BaffledbyOtherReview |

Went for Sunday brunch and had to wait an hour outside. We got a coffee from another local coffee shop while we were waiting. We sat outside which was a bit cold but we were desperate by that stage and took the first table offered. Delicious and bottomless cups of coffee. Friendly, smart, interesting waitress. At last: a place that not only advertises healthy options but delivers them really really well. Almond pancakes were awesome. We all enjoyed everything we ordered. Loved it so much we’re going back today. (4* because the wait was boring and unpleasant)

Breakfast at the Plow

By Tim S |

Parking is a pain, especially when the streets are scheduled for cleaning. Once inside, it's a small dining area, just a bit cramped but still comfortable enough to dine. Ordered the Plow breakfast, 2 eggs, choice of meat, potatoes and 2 small lemon ricotta pancakes. The service was quick and our server was friendly. Eggs were cooked perfectly, over easy. I ordered the house made pork sausage patties and quite frankly, they were bland. I would have liked to try the bacon instead. Plow potatoes were very good, cooked well and seasoned just right. The lemon ricotta pancakes had a nice light fluffy texture, but I couldn't detect any lemon flavor or aroma. Overall, a pretty good breakfast. Give it a try.

Excellent Brunch

By road2eighty |

We never tire of this place. Despite the long wait (30-45 minutes) for brunch, we never miss visiting whenever we come to San Francisco. A testament to this place's popularity is when we ate there last. it was a very cold morning in the very low 10's and there was a big crowd waiting for a table. Those who opted to be seated outside were even given blankets to keep them warm. We waited for 45 minutes but it was worth it. The food was excellent as usual. I had chorizo and egg dish while my wife had pancakes. We cleaned up our plates! Well, till our next visit.

Craving farm eggs

By Kamb60 |

Last day in SF and wanted a great breakfast with real eggs! I had visited this place a few years ago when I still lived in the city. With mom and sis, two of the pickiest people, we got there and were lucky to get a table right away. They both loved their food as I did. The PLOW is what I ordered and it came with 2 eggs, potatoes, 4 pieces of crispy bacon and 2 lemon ricotta pancakes. SIMPLY OUTRAGEOUSLY DELICIOUS

Great Meal, If You're Willing to Wait

By NKLW |

I need to preface this by saying that if you aren't willing to wait a decent amount of time for a table, you need to come here early in the morning, especially if it's a weekend. And I don't mean come here when they open, I'm saying line up 30 minutes before they open to make the first seating. I got here right at the open, and still had to wait 30-45 minutes because I didn't make the first seating. That said, the food here is pretty good. I get "The Plow" every time, since it is the quintessential breakfast on a large plate. I normally get the house made sausage patties. The eggs and potatoes are consistent, and the lemon ricotta pancakes are really different. They look fluffy, but inside is a bit dense. I don't mind it since I prefer denser pancakes, but others may think differently. I'm not sure if $17 is completely worth it for the dish, but as long as it is tasty, I really can't complain.

Wonderful food at a quaint little eatery

By alan b |

What can I say about Plow? This was my second time visiting Plow as I traveled through San Francisco. Frankly, I went back just to make sure it was as good as the first visit, and I was equally pleased. Amazing menu choices that made it hard for me to make a decision. Both times, there has been a wait, but it is totally worth it. Make sure that when you go, you aren't in a hurry to get in and out. This is a perfect choice if you are looking for an awesome breakfast and a relaxing start to the day.

Amazing brunch

By mackanna |

I loved the food and not being rushed ~ great place to meet with friends. Super tasty and convenient and nice wait staff. Goat cheese with eggs ~ how can you go wrong?

Great breakfast, a little far out but worth the trip

By emmaroback89 |

Had a delicious breakfast at Plow. Got there early (9am) so managed to get a table straight away. I had the 2 eggs, homemade pork sausage & plow potatoes. Best sausage i ever had! And those potatoes are just lush. Wish i could have them every morning. Staff were friendly and service was good. Would highly recommend even if it is a little far out from the city. $15 Uber at the most.

Welcome SFO - Breakfast at PLow

By Acerishi |

You can be sure that there is a wait when you got to Plow for breakfast. We went straight from the airport on a cold rainy winter morning and really enjoyed the amazing breakfast. Most of the locals recommend this place a lot and we do to.

But I love cornmeal pancakes!

By Edgar B |

Well, wouldn't you know it. Long walk from third street for some awesome cornmeal pancakes & they're out. Settled for the great biscuit with some jelly & a coffee. Still very satisfying but I still longed for those pancakes. I will definitely return on a warmer morning to chillax outside with a good morning coffee & some cornmeal pancakes.

Definitely worth the wait!

By ahpva |

We had a delicious breakfast here while visiting in August. The Mochi was something to fight over! The Power Bowl is something I will crave continuously and the lemon ricotta pancakes were a giant portion and could easily be split for two, delicious and very rich. Their juices were all fresh and the plow potatoes were heaven. Everything breakfast should be, fresh and delicious!

Why can't others be as good as Plow?

By Vic_Sparrow |

Tremendous breakfast, perfectly made. Well worth a short wait. Other places may be good, but they all could learn a thing or two from Plow. Enjoy everyone!

Delicious!

By SSadique |

My husband and I got the plow and then shared the lemon pancakes. The pancakes are exquisite. The lines are long here but it's worth the wait.

Always busy, good breakfast

By Lyn T |

This place is always busy, the food is good. Do not miss if you are in the area! Lovely breakfast, pretty expensive...

Go ahead and wait

By sparklysparky |

We stayed at a nearby Air BNB and stoped here Sunday morning for breakfast. We were told there would be a 20-30 minute wait which very quickly turned into a 1 hour 10 minute wait. We were really hungry so we decided to stick out the wait after having already put in 30 minutes. We were seated outside and were greeted by a friendly waitress who quickly got my mimosa and his coffee. She was helpful with questions and made great suggestions. I ordered the breakfast sandwich which was delicious. The plow potatoes on Sunday were tasty, too! All in all, a great meal. However, we went back Tuesday morning, there was no wait which was great. However, the breakfast sandwich was served on different bread, the plow potatoes were made completely differently than on Sunday and the service was lacking. The food was still tasty, was just weird it wasn't consistent with what we had Sunday. Overall, good stuff. A little pricey but still tasty.

Great pancakes

By Rob I |

The lemon ricotta pancakes with maple syrup are the best thing on the menu. My breakfast also included well seasoned deep fried potato chunks that were also very good. The house made pork sausage patties were overcooked to the point of dryness, and my eggs over well likewise stayed way too long on the griddle. Sitting at the counter, I had a good view of the cooks at work. One was cutting pieces of smoked salmon and popped an odd shaped bit into his mouth and went right on plating. No hand washing. The clientele is about 100% skinny white 30 somethings who have sadly degraded the soul of this once varied neighborhood. If you don't mind the sanitary aspects, this place isn't bad but not worth standing in line for.

A Family Favorite!

By Erin O |

When visiting San Francisco we always include brunch at Plow. Our favorite menu item is "The Plow", a very hearty meal with eggs, luscious ricotta pancakes, delectable fried potatoes and house-made pork sausage patties! No reservations are accepted and generally one needs to be prepared for a long wait-outside. Often, we use this time to visit a wonderful independent local bookstore just a block way. Also, there are some great views of "The City" from the surrounding neighborhood, as well as, examples of uniquely San Francisco residential architecture.

Best breakfast in SF!

By April1972 |

This I was told by many locals I met so decided to try my luck at getting in. It's a bit of a truck from downtown but quick in a taxi. I walked straight in as I was on my own and loved it. If you like me can't decide between savoury and sweet - go for The Plow which gives you a bit of everything. Best pancakes I ever had!

Great breakfast, may not be worth the wait

By jka919 |

First things first, this was a backup breakfast place. The location we originally wanted to go to was closed due to a water leak. So, we ended up at Plow, which was in a much nicer area than the previous location. However, there were many people standing outside waiting. The restaurant itself on the inside was not very big, maybe had 6/7 tables inside with the same amount outside. Although, in the morning, the outside was in the shade, not in the sun, so it was probably chilly eating out there. We had about a 30/40 minute wait for a table inside. The food was good, the potatoes were really nice. The scrambled eggs were cooked perfect and fluffy. The almond pancakes were great. A friend ordered the tacos, which was two small tacos, and had to order a side of potatoes to compensate. We also had mimosas which were $10 each. Like other reviewers have stated, I'm not sure if it's worth the wait. Good food, though.

Breakfast Heaven

By Avner Ari L |

The special is The Plow: 2 ricotta lemon pancakes 2 eggs, country hash brown Bacon or sausage Add fresh juice and an Americano after..heaven! Not super cheap but super delicious. Everything on the menu is served so fresh you would think it's from your own kitchen. The couple who own Plow are passionate about what they do. It shows through the staff as well. Worth the wait for a table.

NOT. worth waiting

By nosushi |

if you are hungry don't try this place and if you have more than 2 people in your party , the rainbow hostess will make you wait for one hour for a table ,food is OK , but we so many good restaurants in the city , why wait in the cold.

Top breakfast spot

By CaraJayne1 |

No wonder the signature crispy potatoes have a cult following. As soon as we saw them we had to have them. They came fresh from the fryer, crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, seasoned with rosemary and thyme. I spotted my neighbour’s dish and ordered the same open-faced prosciutto and gruyere toast with chilli, garlic and a fried egg on top to go with them. It tasted as good as it looked. The egg was plump and perfectly runny. The owners are proud to source quality local produce and it certainly showed. This popular small restaurant in Potrero Hill does not take reservations and can only accommodate parties of six or less. By going on a Tuesday for a late breakfast we managed to avoid the notorious long queues and to our relief were seated straight away at the counter. Being this close to the food, watching the chefs whizz around flipping ingredients, gave us an appetite. Staff were friendly and service was quick, but not rushed. Sun streams in through the large row of windows making it nice and bright. Value wise we paid just under $20 each for one dish and a drink. It is is a little out of the way, but we had no regrets about venturing this far. The sweeping views of the downtown city skyline were an extra bonus. This was our final meal of the trip and I wished we had come sooner, as I would have loved to have had the chance to come back and try a stack of their famous lemon ricotta pancakes or go for the full breakfast experience and order ‘The Plow’. Instead we saved one of the best meals for last.

A Tight Fit with Great Food!

There's a reason why this place is always crowded even on a weekday! I never even try to go on a weekend because of the wait. So, I tried a Wednesday and even then had to put my name and party on a list. It didn't take long, though. The food is amazing and very well prepared and presented. The staff is super friendly and efficient. I had The Plow and it came with bacon or sausage but they switched that out for avocado and made that dish a delight! I'll certainly return, on a weekday, of course.

Outstanding breakfast

By pfaster |

I was here traveling for work and looked for a good restaurant for breakfast. So I decided on plow and it was a great decision. I had the prosciutto gruyere on toast. It came with potatoes. Everything was perfect even my cup of coffee. I highly suggest this place. One more thing I sat at the counter and it was great watching The cooks work plus it helped me make my decision as to what I wanted.

Puhh - not sure if it is worth the wait

By bester_tester94 |

Bring some time and money! Waited four hours for a table for four. Although there are worse activities on a sunday than hanging out on the street drinking champagne we left the place with a twisted mind. Food is good but not above average ( and thus not worth the waiting time).

Good Restaurant but not sure what the wait is about.

By cq94 |

We are from the Northern NY area. We showed up early and waited in a small line. We just made it in with the first batch, otherwise we would have been waiting for a half hour to eat. Thank goodness. The food seems very fresh but I found it similar to any good breakfast spot in Upstate NY. I'm not sure but maybe there is a shortage of good breakfast in Cali? and that is why its rated so high? In any case the food is good but I would not wait in line for more than 20 minutes.

My favorite breakfast/brunch place in SF

By Vivian C |

Plow executes brunch to perfection. I normally get the Plow special which includes light lemony ricotta pancakes, house pork sausage, fried eggs and the best breakfast potatoes crispy and fluffy inside. Tip: Don't go on weekend. Drop by at 1:30pm ( they close at 2pm) or before 11am on a weekday and you won't have to line up.

Wow... Absolutely amazing. A hidden gem.

By Heath H. |

Plow will be a definite stop on every visit to San Francisco from now on. My friends and I enjoyed 2 breakfasts here and were absolutely blown away by the quality of the food and superb service. Everything we ordered was fantastic! The service was spot-on, the restaurant was extremely clean, and I would highly (HIGHLY) recommend this to anyone looking for a spectacular meal.

Yummy yummy yummy!!!!

Day 1 San Francisco my hubby insisted we get up early and go to Plow for breakfast. He had been there before and as it was my first time in the city, it was a must do. Apparently there will be a queue but worth the wait......and it definitely was. I can't remember exactly what I ordered but it had a bit of everything...lemon ricotta pancakes, potatoes, bacon, poached eggs and maple syrup, a feast basically. Coffee was good and topped up regularly and the staff were really pleasant, efficient and kept things moving. It is small inside but has seating outside too. I liked that you could see the kitchen and the chefs because you could see what food was on offer before you order if you wanted. We didn't have much of a wait plus the coffee and benches outside made the wait a lot better. We arrived at probably 8.30/9.00am and it was already busy with a few couples and their pups already waiting . I was well fed for a good portion of the day. Its one to visit in this city☺

Great place for breakfast

By flatheadvideo |

I wanted to treat my son and his wife and my two grandkids to a special breakfast and this was as good as it gets. There usually is a long wait but it is worth the wait. Outstanding food - especially the bacon.

Presidents day weekend

Highly recommend. Excellent staff. Food is amazing. Prepare for an hour wait minimum in weekends. I wish they would add more options though!

Worth the wait

By Pia D |

I tried Plow based on the reviews and it did not fail. There was a bit of a wait (for me it was around 40 mins) but hey, if there is a que it must be good. Anyway, I was prepared to wait based on the reviews I read. Once I got a seat, I ordered the recommended Plow and it did not disappoint. Definitely the best breakfast place in SFO.

Outstanding Homemade Breakfast with Unique Items

By Dewey_Williams |

Our party of 4 was in San Francisco as tourists and Plow had been recommended by a friend. We had read online that lines form early for this quite small restaurant. By my recollection (I didn't count when I was there) I would estimate that there are only about 26-28 seats at tables, and 6 counter seats, for a total of a little over 30 seats. It opens at 7 am and we went on a rainy Friday morning and arrived about 6:55 a.m. and we were the first customers there. But before the doors opened, another 4-5 customers were with us. Doors opened about 7:05 am; I was amused that the employee servers were arriving right at 7 also! We were seated and offered menus and coffee. 1 of our party ordered "The Plow" combo, another al a carte potatoes and sausage, and the adventurous of us, including me, ordered the blood sausage, eggs and potatoes. I note that the blood sausage is not listed on the online menu so that maybe a new item; the rest of the menu was very similar to the online menu. We asked to switch tables which was quickly accommodated and consequently allowed us to have direct interaction with 3 different front of house staff. Our orders were delivered timely. The blood sausage (pork) was very good; it was link style in a natural casing and had a texture of a loose, crumbly pork sausage, but definitely not the same flavor. The flavor was surprisingly mild, not 'bloody' at all, and bits of what I believe were onion were visible. The mild flavor was enhanced with the homemade hot sauce which was tableside in an unlabeled bottle. The potatoes were not the usual hash browns, but were small, round white potatoes cut in half and saute'd. The service was outstanding. Staff were very friendly and helpful and we rewarded same at tip time. The price is not cheap, as total with generous tip came to a bit over $100 for the 4 of us. For most of us, it is unusual to pay $100 for breakfast for 4, but I must say as a special treat it was worth it. I have attached a photo of our tab. In conclusion, I will come back next time I am in San Francisco! Good job, Plow!

Simply the Best

We were in SF for one night and had to come to Plow before we left town. We showed up early and didn't have to wait. Food was excellent as always, and I love that I can get Gluten Free pancakes!

Great brunch..if you have time to wait

By nmduarte |

Plow has a great choice for breakfast/brunch. Good quality, good service. The only thing that you might want to be aware of is the waiting time. This is not actually someone's fault...it is what it is. Waited around 1hr..but if it's sunny outside, just grab a drink and seat outside chatting and drinking. It will help with the wait. Other option, it seems, it's to drop your name and then go for a walk around while you wait. I would definitely go back if I didn't have to wait that long. On the other hand you know that by keeping the place small, you'll keep getting good service and good food.

Excellent breakfast but very long wait

By macmarkman |

Love the food here but hated the long wait. Great eggs, food and Ok coffee even (not like home but drinkable). The view from this neighbourhood hill is actually quite stunning also

Nice place with good food

By Traveler |

Had lunch with a friend recently. Crowded. Had to sit at a “shared” table. Excellent service. Waiter was attentive and friendly. Didn’t rush us. So refreshing not to get the check as they take away the plates. Food was nice. Very tasty. Worth the SF typical over-priced cost.

Best pancakes I have ever tasted.

By london_traveller6789 |

Must visit and trip for anyone visiting San Francisco and loves top breakfast and brunch spots. My husband and I queued for around 40 minutes as we were happy to sit outside (wait was around 2 hours if you wanted to sit inside!) so it seemed the sensible option. I ordered the soft scrambled eggs with spinach, goats cheese and mushrooms with breakfast potatoes and sourdough which was delicious and then we shared the lemon and ricotta pancakes which was absolutely out of this World. I am still thinking about them a few days on!! The wait isn't ideal but recommend this spot to anyone visiting the City. Just make sure you get there really early! Enjoy.

good food but long wait

By Ronaldo D |

The food and service was good but prepare to wait for a long time. We came at 8:15 AM and waited for an hour. The one’s after us was told to wait for 1-1:30 hours. But this was on a Sunday morning maybe it’s better on a weekday. Good luck!

Good Brekkie Tastes...BUT Oh, the Wait

By Hal J |

Is it really worth it? I'm not convinced. I've been to Plow twice -- once we waited 45 minutes and decided to go elsewhere with no wait and we had a good breakfast. The 2nd time we sat at the counter since there are so few tables for 2. The food was good -- twice cooked fries, nicely prepared eggs... but there are hundreds of breakfast/brunch places in Greater San Francisco so I'm not sure a 3rd time is in the cards for me. Name on the list for the wait but they won't ring your mobile to tell you that a table is ready...at least one could explore the Potrero Hill 'hood. And the service was mediocre - juice asked for but forgotten + had to ask twice for ketchup. $52 for brekkie for 2 with tip - I expect more.

Plowed my breakfast!

By atillagodzilla |

As my uber driver Ricardo was pulling close to the corner where Plow is situated, i suddenly got anxious by the group of Weekday brunches that congregated outside. I was close to asking Ricardo to turn back but my hunger got the better of me and manned up. I am glad that I took the brave route - I was greeted by a lovely host that told me it will be a 15 minute wait, and it was a fast 15 minutes. The crowd grew smaller and happy faces continued to walk out in exchange for the group walking in. The menu was not that big but hard to decide what to indulge with. I opted for the gluten free pancakes. THE BEST PANCAKE ever! With a side of bacon I was in heaven. A super great cafe with fast happy service and amazing pancakes. I'm sure to be back to try the Mexican chocolate pudding. Definitely worth a visit!

Cute neighborhood, farm to table breakfast, teeny-tiny spot, wait is worth it.

By Ryansma33 |

My son found this restaurant courtesy of Google maps, which seems ironic for a small, local spot that should be a neighborhood secret. We had just flown in from Wisconsin, the folks next to us were from Colorado. Guess what? The secret is out!! Potrero Hill is a great little neighborhood, in the "state" streets, near the real crooked-est street in San Fran, Vermont St. While we waited the 30 min for our table (on a Thursday morning), we walked up to the top of Texas St--amazing views! Now on to breakfast. My omlette came with a mixed greens salad with a light vinaigrette dressing. A great touch. My son's eggs came with fried potatoes that I wish I had ordered, and lemon ricotta pancakes. You MUST try these!! They were out of corn meal pancakes by the time we got there (bummer!) A caution-- all the eggs are runny, so if that grosses you out, be warned. Even my omlette could have been cooked longer. Coffee was excellent and we got a small thermos at our table. Our waiter forgot the hot sauce, but we will forgive him- he gave us ideas of things to see and do. And humored us and our travel stories. Parking in this area was ok. Texas St is very steep so be prepared. There was a bus that went by every 5 minutes or so. This was a very fun place, obviously well liked.

Nice breakfast but at $30 with tip, I won't do again

By suzu1209 |

I was in San Francisco by myself and used Yelp to find a nearby restaurant for breakfast. As a solo diner, I was immediately seated at the counter without a wait. I order an egg-white omelet with veg and substituted goat cheese. It arrived quickly, and was served with crispy potatoes and toast. I added 3 slices of crispy bacon and a cup of coffee, but with tip left $30 lighter in my wallet. All in the meal was good and its portion sizes and timing filled me throughout the day, but at $30, I won't do again

Brunch on Friday!

Amazing brunch options! Love the variety of pork choices! The wait wasn't long at all and their sides are to die for!!!!! :-) hehe

Holy Plow! Homemade everything!!’

By Kiersten T |

This was my first stop off the plane when we landed in San Francisco. We are there for breakfast and arrived around 7:45am. We beat the start of the line that tends to wrap around the corner. The restaurant is very small and has very limited seating. I would imagine it’d be nearly impossible to seat a party larger than 4 people. We ate at the bar and enjoyed watching the cooks in action. As mentioned in other reviews the lemon ricotta pancakes are to die for. The homemade biscuits and sausage and oh my I could go on. If it is your first time just go with “The Plow” off the menu. Have a little of everything and I don’t even have to say enjoy because I know you will. They do have gluten friendly options. I found my host, waiter, and the cooks to all be very friendly and willing to chat with me.

No lines for a change

By Arnold C |

Went on a Tuesda at about 1:30 pm and no lines and was seated right away. Service was quick and friendly. Menu is limited to breakfast/brunch type meno. Only open from 600 to 2:30. Forget weekends unless you get there real early. Food was great!!

Lunch with son

By Chinta K |

Busy little place with open kitchen , we sat at the bar watching our lunch being prepared with fresh wholesome natural ingredients and our order when arrived with a smile was delicious

The breakfast here was delicious! Great local spot.

By luisatravels |

You will definitely have to wait, but it is worth it! They have amazing almond pancakes and the eggs were cooked to perfection. A great local spot with a great view.

They meant 1 1/2 hours!

By broncofan1 |

Went on a rainy Saturday morning and we were told an hour and a half wait (place is relatively small with limited outside seating). They were right on! However, finally getting to taste the Plow breakfast was worth it. Lemon ricotta pancakes, home fries, incredible housemade sausage and perfect eggs (at $17) was worth the wait. Not cheap by any means, but great service and killer food. Hint: saw locals coming down in their pajamas, putting their names in and coming back dressed an hour or so later.

The last 1%

By Greg C |

It's hard to make a breakfast restaurant that stands out. Everyone can make eggs or pancakes or french toast that's "satisfying"... Unless they mess it up really bad. Fat salt and starch - that sums up breakfast between the three things besides sugar that make any plate good. So... not many places do what it takes to rise to the top in this category, barring making the atmosphere and service nice. Come to Plow if you want it all. The service is kind, and almost flawless although they are extremely busy and you may not see your waitress for 10 minutes. But the food- I can tell that they make their own ingredients when they can't source perfect ones - and I am of the mind the ingredients are mostly organic because that's just how the food tastes. Cooking times must be to the second. Because I have never had anything but perfectly executed (and gluten free in my case) pancakes that are hot when they get to the table, and perfectly hot and crispy. The "plow potatoes" are at this point famous. And there is almost nothing you will order here that isn't superlative. That is not easy. But if you're doing a tour of brunches- the often 2 hour wait here is kind of worth it.... except that you can wait a lot less if you come during the week or get in line very early (like 7:30AM) on the weekend. There is a great coffee shop nearby. Enjoy the Potrero sunshine and have a nice chat with your friends while you wait. Bonus : The outside seating is dog friendly. Don't bring the whole kennel with you, but it's good for a canine friend or two.

Worth the Wait

By Emma M |

We waited almost 2 hours to get a table at Plow, but those lemon ricotta pancakes made it soooo worth it. They had a great lemon flavor and it kind of melts in your mouth. Honestly, I'm sad that I'm not still eating it. Absolutely make that part of your meal. (I ordered the Plow and while the other components of the meal were also delightful the pancakes are the component that are going to make me come back for more!)

Very good food - and we didn't have to wait in line

By Belgo96 |

We ate breakfast at Plow on a Thursday morning. We had read the reviews noting how long the lines are for breakfast here. We couldn't get ourselves going to get here any earlier than 7.20am because we were on vacation. When we arrived it was almost full but the staff are so helpful and offered different alternatives for seating. We were seated at a communal table which was fine by us because we could eat straight away. I had the lemon ricotta pancakes which were the lightest, fluffiest ever pancakes I've had - totally delicious. They only do drip filtered coffee here which was a little disappointing but I understand that it is hard to find the type of European style coffee we have in Australia in many US places (e.g. flat white - although there are some places in San Francisco now that do), but the food is truly excellent.

Skip It

By Christine M |

The food is great and simple but the staff and atmosphere is snobby. They are not interested in the comfort of clients and their needs to enjoy a heated restaurant while paying for a meal indoors.

Not the same...

By Michael A |

Don't you hate it when you have had such a wonderful experience somewhere and you go back and it's not the same? Some of the best restaurants in the world are frequented daily or weekly by the same people on the basis of consistency. That can make or break a restaurant for years to come. I have the peculiar problem that I remember too much... Last time we visited 2 years ago this past May, the food was to die for. My wife and I liked it so much that we went there at least 3 of the 4 days we were in PH. The food came out piping hot, the portion size was decent and the flavors were impressionable. But this time, it was ok... Not hot, service not so great, portion sizes much smaller (as normal) and the price was roughly $4 higher than last time for the same meal. I feel bad that we drove the distance to go there... I should have known. Maybe it was an off day... Maybe they just let down their guard after 6 years. Whatever the reason, we won't be going back any time soon. Happy anniversary... I hope it's worth something.

Good brunch choice

By mytravelingcam |

I enjoyed very much the brunch here, so complete for 28usd. Not possible to be reserved, there are long queue outside.

Best pancakes!

By NCR09 |

Stopped in for breakfast/brunch. Its a little tight in there but definitely worth it. Wait was quick Service was good. I had the lemon ricotta pancakes. Delicious!!! They were so light and fluffy. Coffee was great too. Definitely going back if I'm ever in the area again.

Good food, expect a wait even on a weekday

By LaLa |

Went to Plow on a Friday morning around 9:30am, it took us about 10-12 minutes to get there from downtown. There were about 4 or 5 sets of people in front of us and we were seated in about 30 minutes or so. It’s not a bad wait as it’s on a fairly quiet corner so you can spread out and there are a few seats as well. We were seated outside so I really have no clue what the restaurant looks like. Once we were seated our drink orders were taken quickly and they arrived shortly after. We ordered our food soon after and it arrived about 15 minutes or so later. The food was very good. I had the spinach mushroom scramble with breakfast potatoes and the Hong Kong toast on the side. It was all very flavorful and hearty. I think the sauce on the toast was chilled which cooled the toast a bit but it was still really good. I quite enjoyed this meal and recommend a visit.

Solid brunch

By nebali67 |

Fantastic service, simple and cute space, solid brunch. I had the soft scramble but skipped the toast and ordered a biscuit. The highlights of the meal were definitely the potatoes, the biscuit, and the flavored butter that came with the biscuit. Good mimosa, too, and I appreciated that they have decaf coffee. Food came out quickly and wait staff was attentive. Great for a quick weekday brunch.

Great food, small restaurant

By travelhive |

Great restaurant that is worth the effort to find in the Potrero Hill neighborhood. Open weekdays from 7:00am to 2:00pm, with a breakfast centric menu. A really popular spot - we had to wait ~50 minutes for a table at 11:00am on a weekday. But it was well worth the wait - they serve you coffee or drinks while you wait. Great choices on the menu with pancakes, French toast, and breads, plus egg dishes and multiple sandwich choices. I don't think you can go wrong with any option. Limited but functional wine and beer choices. Great, attentive waitstaff. Thoughtful touches like blankets to keep you warm for the outdoor seating. Overall an excellent choice for breakfast/brunch.

Delicious and worth the short wait

By cunoregon |

Small restaurant and very busy. There were 4 groups ahead of us and we waited about 15 minutes. Well worth the wait. Staff is very friendly. Service is fairly quick. I ordered the small portion of custard French toast and it was more than enough food and very delicious. They have seating inside and outside. We found plenty of parking on side streets. The only thing we didn’t like was the coffee. Too strong like Starbucks (too strong for us anyway)

Cute

By Relaxlife Tonetta |

We waited for about 40 minutes and I can truly say it was worth it the French toast was good, but the patty sausages are amazing along with the potatoes oh Em Gee...so good!

Excellent, but not worth the wait on weekends

By Veturanto |

The breakfast at Plow is as good as any in SF. However, the wait on weekends can seem endless. There are equally good places in SF whose wait times for breakfast aren't nearly as long. Having said that, if you are going very early anyway or on a week day, I strongly recommend trying Plow.

Arrive Hungry!

By C&R |

My sister brought us here after picking us up at the airport, she said “be sure you arrive hungry” and was she ever right! After we put our name down for a table we took a little walk around Potrero Hill, such nice area with an amazing view of the city. It was the perfect place to start off. Once we were seated we all chose something different from the breakfast menu. Hands down our favourite was the marinated pork chops served with eggs for breakfast, phenomenal. You can't includes lemon ricotta cakes, they are a bit tart but very tasty, I liked them with salad.

Great neighborhood breakfast spot

By Kathy P |

Recently was in Bay Area and had breakfast here and it was great. The lemon pancakes were fantastic and I ordered a side order of chicken sausage and received 5 pieces, definitely enough to share. We went on a Thursday around 10 am and still had to wait for a table so plan accordingly and enjoy!

Incredible breakfast

By Greg C |

This is THE best breakfast you can get in San Francisco, and you'll get it in an unpretentious Potrero Hill setting close to other great shops where you can grab coffee for the wait. The reviews giving less stars or even one star because "the wait is too long" are hilarious. Reminds me of the Yogi Berra-ism: "No one goes there any more- it's too crowded!". Big props for the no-reservations scheme since it eliminates the people (especially today's "youngsters" who could care less about burning a restaurant by not showing up. Hot tip: Go early during the week and skip the wait. If you don't like it by all means ... stay out of our line lol! The wait will be rewarded with an great selection that includes a gluten-free almond flour pancake that is about the best pancake of any kind I have had anywhere. Eggs are amazing both in presentation and flavor, and the Plow potatoes are to die for. I give the chefs a round of applause every time I leave. I traveled 3 hours round trip last time to make it here with a friend, leaving around 6a.m. It's just that worth it.

Great place, worth the wait

By evans2012 |

We were there for brunch on a Sunday so expected the queues! We were a party of six, so we had to wait a little longer than most, but a couple in our party got there early to put our names down so about 50/60 mins in total. The interior is quaint and small but the food is excellent. I chose a bowl of granola and all the others had hot food cooked to order. I tried the lemon ricotta pancakes which were excellent as promised. We all ate at the same time which was good. Lots of coffee and excellent pots of tea. Found on four square app and shall be recommending to others.

Great place for breakfast

By Debbie S |

An authentic San Francisco dining experience. Funky neighborhood. Sat outside despite the chilly temps and they gave us blankets and hot coffee. I'm a big fan of avocado toast with poached eggs. Plow did not disappoint us. The bread was delicious and the eggs were perfect atop lemony avocado.

Worth the wait

By Cal C |

I understand there is always a wait at Plow. They are very small and they have great food, so that is not much of a surprise. We arrived at 10:30 on a Friday and were seated at 11:25. The wait is less if the party is of 2 people. We had 4, and they have mostly tables for 2. I had the "plow" breakfast with 2 eggs, 2 lemon ricotta pancakes and potatoes. The eggs appear to be "free range": deep yellow yolks and very fresh. The pancakes are wonderful. The potatoes are very special and unusual. If you like any kind of potato, I think you'll love these. We'll be back!

What a great breakfast

By triplover25 |

I have been wanting to try this place out for a bit but I was worried about the ability to get in as it is always lined up with long waits. I happened to be alone and when I showed up was put in a seat at the counter immediately. SO lucky as there were lineups out the door. Sitting at the counter allowed you to watch the Chef's do their work and it was really a treat to watch. The food itself was flavourful and the portions were very generous. They also had some great beats playing the whole time and some of the staff were singing along. Great vibe, great food, make sure you get there for a meal.

Phenomenal brunch in SF!!

By ajayp226 |

Our first meal on our first visit to San Francisco and we brunched at Plow…absolutely loved it! Our order: The Plow, the 2 egg brekkie and a glass of Orange juice. The pork sausage patties and the Plow potatoes are the stars of the show. The quality of ingredients just shines through. Lovely customer service and I can’t recommend this place highly enough. Two thumbs up!

Wish I could give it 10 stars!

By sarah s |

This place is a must!!! We are in San Francisco for a work convention, Winter Fancy Food Show to be exact. We run a breakfast restaurant in Massachusetts so turned to Trip advisor and other sites in search of the best breakfast place in San Francisco....we found it! The food was so incredibly fresh and cooked to perfection. The homefries had a hint of rosemary that was outstanding. The lemon ricotta pancakes could not have had a more perfect balance of flavors. There wasn't an item put on the table that wasn't of the utmost quality. Its also a plus when you see the owner in an establishment working along side the employees. A+++++

Delicious!

By MrAndMrsGazelle |

Absolutely delicious! The baklava and Greek yoghurt is a must do if you are in San Francisco! We are here twice since it was so good and it's also great value for money.

Excellent breakfast

By Valerie K |

Take an Uber to Potrero Hill to find this cute little breakfast place in San Fran. I ordered 'The Plow' and safe to say it was amazing! The pancakes were able to be substituted. I wasn't expecting the pork sausage to be chilli but that was a pleasant surprise. I would highly recommend this place if you are visiting San Fran :)

Worth the wait!

By jacquelinetherese |

Even though this place was packed, the atmosphere was so fun and eclectic! It is a cute neighborhood, so we walked around while we waited. Be prepared to wait an hour, but it is sooo worth it!!! The food is excellent! You must get the house made ricotta lemon pancakes!!!

Great for group events

We had a group event here and it was fantastic! The food was good, paired with tasty wines and you can tell the staff really cares about what they do and make. Highly recommend this place for group events!

Our favorite place for breakfast in SF

Go to Plow for delicious breakfast and you won't be let down. The earlier the better, because you'll have to wait if you go late. We are regulars every time we visit SF for business and we really love the place. Highly recommended.

Yummy breakfast, good coffee

By SFMark415 |

Plow serves up a yummy breakfast. The food is always fresh and tasty. I enjoy the Plow breakfast which comes with lemon ricotta pancakes (you can switch for the gluten-free almond flour), potatoes (these are cooked twice, so they have good crunch), 2 eggs and your choice of meat: bacon, chicken apple sausage or sausage patties. All of the choices are good. Their coffee is good and strong from Equator. The waits can be long. To our family, it is worth the wait. If you are waiting, they allow you to have self-serve coffee. It's on the right side of the door. There are cups, coffee and sugar set aside for this purpose. The cup of coffee help make the wait more bearable. It is advisable to bring something to do with your wait, like a book or smartphone.

Worth the wait

By Wallacescottb |

We arrived on a Saturday morning and had to wait almost an hour, but we had traveled from Germantown TN to eat here so we decided to wait it out. Thank goodness we did, it was fantastic. We had several of their top picks. Wagon Wheel to lemon pancakes, it was all fabulous.

Outstanding Breakfast

By Scott |

There is a line to get in, but worth it. Probably the best breakfast I have had in a long time. It is small, quaint local restaurant with excellent food. The food is pricey for breakfast fare, but so worth it. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The breakfast grilled cheese was absolutely delicious. 5+ stars.

Wonderful place for breakfast

By BeatlesNut9 |

Went to the Plow on our last morning visiting the city. Its very small and there were people waiting outside for a table. We only waited about 10 minutes because turn-over is high. Food is amazing; ordered grapefruit juice and I would swear it was fresh-squeezed. We had the french toast and "mixed" plate with eggs, sausage and lemon-ricotta pancakes. Everything was delicious; also coffee was great. It is definitely a "hip place" and recommend a visit here; I believe they also have lunch-type items but didn't pay attention because we just wanted breakfast.

Great place, if no wait...

Excellent food/atmosphere! We lucked out on a Tuesday morning at 8 a.m....walked right in. Great coffee too!!!!! One of the more expensive breakfast places...but the quality is def. good. A nice treat~~~

We stopped here for a bite to eat and loved the ambiance, service and food, the only down side for us was the lack of expresso coffee, otherwise everything was way above our expectations.

So Worth your time standing outside!

Wake up early and get there as it opens to get one of the first tables-although it would be worth the wait. The biscuits were phenomenal and the potatoes aren't to be missed. It's an adorable little restaurant with a really cool atmosphere.

A great find - be prepared to wait

By Michael S |

We went here twice during our four day stay in SF. It was close by to where we were staying but to be honest I would travel quite a way to get a breakfast as good as this, the menu is interesting and caters for all tastes, the lemon ricotta pancakes are subvert as was the breakfast roll, the best I've had in the US. Be prepared to wait, it's very popular and no reservations, but grab a coffee and engage with your fellow "waiters"!!

Great lunch/brunch spot

By Mark51069 |

Even though we stopped at 10:45 on a Thursday morning, Plow was busy. The staff is friendly and efficient so a table was quickly available. My wife loved her lemon ricotta pancake and home fries. My gazpacho surprised me when it arrived and looked like tomato soup. It had all the flavors that I expected and was very good. I asked for a hunk of bread to go with it, and the waitress served me a side of toast with homemade apricot jam. That was perfectly done, but not what I was expecting. Everyone there was enjoying whatever they were eating. The menu had many fun options, all which looked delicious.

Brunch

By Kathy H |

Wonderful breakfast with a very long wait. We arrived around 8:45 and sat down around 10:15 for brunch. I never wait for food, but I was with my son who happily waited 4 1/2 hours for Franklin BBQ in Austin and had heard from a friend that the Plow was the place to eat brunch in San Francisco. They were extremely accommodating to the waiting masses, offering free coffee. I went inside and ordered a muffin, almond cake and hot tea to snack on as we waited. Good, but not amazing. But, once we sat down, the breakfast was amazing. I had the plow, my son had the prosciutto and Gruyere, my husband had the egg sandwich. I thought the bacon was the best choice, followed by chicken sausage and then their homemade pork sausage. The potatoes and lemon ricotta pancakes were delicious. Expect a wait but it's worth it

Great brunch!

We came here on our final day in the city and only wish we came here sooner. The breakfasts tasted great and were very good value. The place was absolutely packed (even for late morning on a Tuesday!) so is obviously a popular place! The friendly staff kept pouring us fresh coffee which was an even nicer treat! If you're in the area then I'd absolutely recommend this place to start your day.

Delicious Breakfast!

By lirwin13 |

It was a short wait for a seat at the counter the day I visited Plow. I enjoyed the lemon ricotta pancakes, but everything that went by looked delicious. A little out of the main downtown area, but worth the effort to get there!

Be prepared to wait

By Helen M |

A great brunch place to visit when in SF. Bonus is they open at 0800 on weekends and serve great filling meals. Arrive early or be prepared to wait over an hour

Good food (slightly overhyped), terrible waiting time

By Stephanie L |

Plow has good farm to table comfort food. The dishes are simple and well executed, the serving size is good - not too big nor too small. My favorite were the super crunchy home fries (you can't believe how crunchy) and the lemon ricotta pancakes. Everything else I tried was good but not 'unique' Plow feels like a beautiful, around the corner, comfortable, neighbourhood restaurant - which is exactly what it is. BUT I really think the waiting time for a table is excessive. We wrote down our table at 9:30am and were seated at around 12pm - granted we were a group of 6 - which is considered HUGE for this place. If you're planning to go I suggest going in a pair so you don't have to wait so long. The good thing is you can have a coffee while you wait and the staff is friendly.

Great place to have breakfast if you have no rush!

By LorePrada |

I had a great breakfast at PLOW. The wait was about 20 minutes and I got seated at the bar where I could see the Chefs preparing all dishes. I waited about 25 minutes for breakfast but it was worth it. I had the avocado toast with a poached egg and the french toast, both of them delicious. Great place to have breakfast if you have no rush!

The best breakfast

Breakfast in the plow is what you need. I found this place on envibe and decided to visit this spot. I ordered fried egg sandwich and buttermilk biscuit. SO delicious!

I wanted to like this place

By Clare H |

45 minute wait on a Friday morning... The only thing which made it worth it was the company.... And I brought that with me. The food was bland and under seasoned. Even the hot sauce we asked for was without. Without the wait it'd be an average breakfast, the wait wasn't worth the outcome.

Awesome

My cousin trat us for breakfast and this is one of the best restaurants ive been. Good service and best menu. Would never forget this place

Best breakfast hangout

By ukandaustria |

Our host recommended this place and after a challenging walk we finally arrived. To our surprise there was a long queue and we had to wait an hour for out table.. but the wait was worth it. The breakfast was tasty and ever so tasty. Meals re cooked infant of you which is always a a good thing. Staff are fabulous. Our waitress really knew her stuff. We met a lovely young gent called Randall who works at Plow - what a pleasure - a true gentleman! We wanted to have breakfast there agin the next day (Sunday) but there was a 2 hour wait so we ended up as a competing breakfast nook which wasn't half as good!

Good food and service tainted by bad experience

By David R |

Decided to eat here based on reviews for a good breakfast place. The restaurant is small but quaint and instead of waiting for a table decided to eat outside. It was a little chilly outside so they provided blankets which was a nice touch. Food was good and so was service but unfortunately while eating my rental car was parked on the side streets and broken into. According to SFPD this is a common occurrence in the area and SF in general so just a heads up to anyone traveling to the area to make sure to conceal your personal belongings. Would have been a 4 star review if not for the break in but its hard to separate the two.

DELICIOUS brunch!

By Emily R |

We loved this little place in Potrero Hill. Clean, modern farmhouse-type decor, and delicious brunch food with noticeably fresh ingredients. I got the two egg breakfast with a mimosa, my husband got the Plow, and we shared a biscuit with honey butter. The pancakes in the Plow were light & delicious, and the biscuit was moist & indulgent. The Plow potatoes were crispy on the outside, pillowy soft on the inside, and seasoned to perfection. We'll definitely be back. We did wait for about 45 minutes on a Friday morning, but we didn't mind since we were sans kids.

Is it really worth the one hour wait?

By Cat_en_voyage |

Very good food in a low key ambience.Eggs were well cooked. Potatoes were tasty. The pancakes are fluffy but a little too sweet. Nothing to complain about service. Is it memorable? Is it worth one hour wait? We say no. Everything was good but waiting for a table in the street with no place to seat takes a star away. There is so much buzz about the place that there is a long waiting list even during the week. Will not go back.

Nothing special.

By Leah L |

Reading all the good reviews I thought the food would be great, but it was just average. I tried coming last year on the weekend and there was a line out the door so I thought there must be something special about it. I had no such luck, the food wasn't as good as I thought it would be.

Potatoes, Pancakes & Pure Joy!

By Lina E |

Plow is a popular San Francisco brunch spot—and for good reason. We tried “The Plow,” their signature plate with eggs, sausage, perfectly crispy potatoes, and two fluffy pancakes. The potatoes and pancakes were standouts, absolutely delicious. The albacore tuna sandwich was also fresh and flavorful. There’s indoor and outdoor seating, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy. Be prepared for a wait though—even on a Friday before 11 a.m., the line was long, and we waited about 45 minutes. Still, the food makes it completely worth it.

Worth the wait!

By Debbie S |

We were in San Francisco for about 3 weeks around the birth of our grandchild. We ate at Plow many times. Don't be intimidated by the line, it moves fast and we thought it was worth the wait every time. Between the 4 of us we tried almost every meatless dish on the menu and they were all EXCELLENT! One of the best breakfast places I've ever been to.

Cool local eats

By MarkVoto |

This is a very popular local spot with good reason. Aside from the chic decor you can also watch you meal being prepared in a very clean kitchen. All meals are prepared with fresh ingredients and the taste comes through. If you are on the move they also offer a free travel cup for a to go cup of coffee once you finish your meal. This was a nice touch for us on a cool rainy day.

Waited hours for salty food

By Javier E |

Unfortunately, TripAdvisor doesn’t allow to give this place zero stars. It’s not one thing, it’s an accumulation of things that made our brunch a bad experience. So, it’s not that there’s a long wait, it’s the arrogance of the hostess who processes diners instead of making them feel welcome, explicitly saying that there’s nothing they can do if dozens of people line up outside the restaurant. We asked for a cup of coffee while we waited, and they pointed us to a café two blocks away. The management seems to go out of its way to make things inconvenient. A “wait in line” system with no reservations knowing that demand will result in two-hour waits is disrespectful for diners, and poor self awareness that their current system is inadequate for a place with this level of hype. Might be good for profits, but it’s one sided and abusive. Then there was the food: fried eggs and house fries were extremely salty, bacon was swimming in grease. The side salad and accompanying bread to the scrambled eggs were delicious, but weigh that with a long wait with an attitude and a portion of the meal being salty and greasy and you have a bad trade off. The entitlement of management is evident. But as long as we’re willing to tolerate two-hour lines for something, there will continue to be people subjecting us to it. So, as you read this while waiting for a table, please go someplace else — the hostess can recommend a café two blocks away...

Best food I had in the Bay Area

By Russell B |

We where here for a graduation and had great food BUT this was the best. I ordered the two egg breakfast chose scrambled eggs and the sausage. It included fried potatoes and sourdough bread. Sounds pretty basic but not really. The potatoes were small and cooked almost whole and were incredible. The patty sausage which they make were seasoned perfectly. The eggs and toast were great. Altogether one of the best breakfast ever. It was worth the 30 minute wait at 10:00 on a Monday morning .

Worth it!

By JayJayEats |

If you are in the area, you must come here for breakfast some time! If you are visiting California this is almost a must go to place for food in my opinion. Some of the best breakfast i have ever had!

Best breakfast

By 357NReady |

Best breakfast. Well worth the drive. Once seated you will experience friendly and efficient service. The food is fabulous! Eggs poached to perfection, potatoes very tasty and you have to try their homemade sausage. Coffee is smooth and free flowing. We shared a delish buttermilk biscuit and the lemon pancakes are melt in your mouth amazing! Seriously! Go and taste for yourself!

Love it

By Catherine |

One of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. What more could one ask for? I ordered the plow which I feel is a great way to sample a bit of everything, from eggs and chicken sausage to lemon ricotta pancakes. The potatoes were cooked to perfection-just as crispy as they should always be. The juice taste fresh, endless coffee and the tart is divine!

Great breakfast!

By Stefania P |

We were staying in Potrero Hill during our San Francisco's visit. The Plow was around the corner and we tried one day for breakfast. We had to wait about 30 minutes as it was packed but it was worth the wait! The almond flower pancakes I chose with a side of bacon were delicious. So was the lemon ricotta pancakes my husband tried and the granola/ fruit and yogurt our 12 yrs old daughter had. Recommended!

Great neighborhood amenity

By BobMaddox1 |

The Plow is a very small "farm to table" restaurant in a trendy area of SF. Food was excellent, well prepared and the staff attentive.

Go first thing on a weekday to avoid the lines.

By Travellover6128 |

Visited here early on a weekday morning to avoid the queues and were seated straight away. The breakfasts are extremely tasty and there is a great variety but they are on the expensive side. Loved the lemon ricotta pancakes and the fried egg sandwich looked delicious. Service is friendly, tables are very close together. I'd definitely come back but probably wouldn't wait in line for hours for a table.

Delicious Bkfst outside the city

By Tim B |

I'm not exactly sure how you found yourself looking for breakfast this far south of downtown San Francisco, but consider yourself lucky to be in the neighborhood. The farm-to-table food is light but filling, delicious and sourced from the freshest NorCal purveyors. Dig in and enjoy, and don't forget the coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice.

Yummy!!

Great great food, excellent service. Worth the wait for sure. Love the apple wood chicken sausage. Good coffee too!

Delicious Breakfast

By cmharrison1970 |

My Dad & I visited for breakfast. He ordered almond flour pancakes & the house made sausage and I ordered the scrambled eggs w spinach & shiitake mushrooms w plow potatoes. The food was awesome...hearty & fresh. We also had a side of biscuits w honey butter. Highly Recommend although it's a bit pricey.

A little overrated.

By L.B |

Had breakfast here with my boyfriend and it was good but we thought it was overrated. The prices are a little too high for what you get. $17 for an omlete and potatos and bacon is just too much, there was nothing different or special about it. Overall if you are going to wait about and hour in line, it should have been something more than just your everyday breakfast.

Very nice food!

By onevonne |

We stumbled upon this place to realise a queue forming even before the store was open. Apparently this was common. We were introduced to a couple of dishes but was told to try 'The Plow' as it consists of everything - and that it was totally worth it. I stand by this now and agree that it is indeed awesome! The lemon pancakes were delicious and the potatoes were just great. Additionally we ordered a honeymilk biscuit which was great as well but a bit on the dry side. With butter, that solves the problem. Arrive 15minutes before opening to avoid the queue. Place is rather small so they can't seat many guests at a time. Also, they don't seat parties greater than 6 pax.

Worth the Wait for Lemon Ricotta Pancakes

By PJCM744 |

Wonderful pancakes and eggs were nice and hot too. We arrived at opening and needed to wait one complete turn for a table, but the food was worth it.

Worth the Wait

By randall_travels2015 |

Come for the food, stay for the friendly atmosphere. This restaurant is owned and run by a wonderful couple, Maxine and Joel, who live right on Potrero Hill. Yes, you will wait to get in, but it's a perfect time to catch up with friends and fantasize about what you're going to order for your meal. Don't miss the lemon ricotta pancakes. They even make their own ricotta! How amazing is that? If you truly are what you eat, then I am everything on the menu.

Amazing!!

By Ragz4 |

The breakfast is fabulous!! We went back the next day and ordered the exact same things. Their lemon ricotto pancakes, fried potatoes and biscutts are to incrediable!! I miss them already!
