Or, in the case of Pomodoro Rosso, pasta with fresh tomatoes and basil sauce. It's cooked to perfection, including the pasta “al dente”. The sirloin sandwich with mushrooms and onions, delicious. Wine list not much, but sensibly priced. Service pretty good, except for the mess they leave on the table when they pick up the dirty dishes. Bread “American (or Portuguese?) Italian, olive oil good quality. **

We dined at Pomodoro Rosso on December 21. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. I ordered linguine and clam sauce which was wonderful! My great niece ordered gnocchi with pesto and chicken which was very good. The restaurant is small and quaint. I would dine there again.

Went here with my wife after a show at Lincoln Center. The restaurant is small but quaint on the inside. Also not very noisy, which I prefer. As for the food we both found it to be tasty and well prepared. The service was reliable. My only qualm was that we were charged $28. dollars for two glasses of house wine....

Just had a really good Italian meal at this classic Italian restaurant on Columbus. The food and service were good. The menu is quite extensive and there's some interesting options. The pasta was really good. I'd strongly recommend this place.

Amazing UWS Italian! Been multiple times since 2011, have yet to be disappointed!!! Lobster & shrimp pappardelle is a personal favorite! Great wine selections. Cocktails could use a little work. Service is always polite and efficient. Prices and portions sizes are very fair!

We had a seat near the window, so it was quieter for us than elsewhere in the restaurant, perhaps. Friendly waiter. They have a bunch of specials, too. They serve bread and olives with olive oil. I had a good salad and a main dish of fruit of the sea (various fish in tomato broth). As well, a desert of fruit sorbet covered with white chocolate. Food was quite good!

Stopped here for some food and drinks after the American national history museum.Fantastic service and excellent food.I recommend.I’m vegan and the staff was very helpful.

I've lived nearby for decades, but don't often dine out on this expensive strip of pricey bistros nearby Lincoln Center. And most of my Italian restaurant visits have been near family in Florida, or in Europe, So I'm no expert on Northern-Southern Italian cuisines or other nuances of the cuisine, but I have some basis for comparing some go-to standards such as meat dishes, pasta, and salads/desserts. This is based on a visit (Apr.1), a Friday night which was so atypically warm for this time of year, we ate at this bistro - outdoors. And reading the reviews now, am puzzled by some of the reviews. My version: I had no phone/camera with me (!) but I would describe the inside as 'comfortable', w/exposed brick walls and long narrow room similar to some other favorite bistros. We sat outside though, enjoying the first real warm spring night. Friday night, 10PM, still "prime time" for after-show or late-nite New Yorkers. The wait staff were wonderful, attentive, asking about ground pepper, cheese, refilling water at just the right time without hovering or ignoring... Really elegant. It's located one avenue over from Broadway and Lincoln Center, & 2 or 3 blocks North, at the beginning of the Upper West Side's "restaurant row" on Columbus Avenue, mid-60's to mid 70's. There are two other good Italian restaurants a few blocks apart, and all 3 have been around many years, and each have local fans. (And night at the opera prices too.) If not in a rush, or not eager for Italian food, just keep walking North and you'll see more & more restaurants. We two diners ordered a main dish each and split an insalada tricolore (3-color salad). They had several other nice salads, and these were a good value, and size, too. Soups too. My visiting friend got the mafaldina al sugu di carne (wide home-made fettuccini with tomato and meat sauce) and I got my long-time favorite, which I hardly see any more, especially down South, veal parmigiana. (Yes, I know piccata and other styles are more elegant and authentic/typical). One dish was $25 (pasta) and the parmigiana veal (or shrimp) is $28 - just to give an idea of the overall price range. This is pretty much the same with the other 2 bistro/Italian restaurants nearby. Each has a certain "vibe" for regulars and a few specialties. This place was pleasant. My friend really enjoyed the meat/pasta, which I tasted too - not at all simply pasta and spaghetti sauce - it had a pungent, unique flavor to it, new to me. The veal was excellent, thin-pounded like a good piccata (or wiener schnitzel!) but thick enough, juicy, and just-right breaded and covered with parmigiana and a hearty, on-the-money sauce for the spaghetti it came with. It came embellished with some steamed carrots. They served a wonderful bread (I can't spell it) with olive oil and olives. On the table in addition was my friend's one glass of red wine (which was fine), one salad (which was good), and then one cappuccino at the end. Total for two, without appetizer, soup, or dessert: $100 or so, plus tip. For the frugal, head North a few blocks! This is Lincoln Center's prime-dining strip here. Yes, it is fine for *diners* to be "casual", but the staff still are elegant (for the opera crowd!) and the prices also reflect fine food in a prime New York location, location... So for me this was a special occasion and we were in the Upper West Side, in fact walking from Lincoln Center and window-shopping our long-time favorite restaurants. We settled in here because it was a nice night to be outside, it was on the late side and they'd be staying open, so we both decided this was worth a try, or re-visit. No regrets. Short version: It's pricey, but works hard to be worth it - great waitstaff & nice outdoor seating - not too noisy for a city street, one reason we chose it, rather than directly across from Lincoln Center. on Broadway. Great pasta & meat dishes. They've been serving New Yorkers & visitors in this location for years, amid the constant opening & closing of restaurants here. They have an "A" rating in the window (for health standards), and - it's all good. I'm not sure what standards some of the recent reviewers are applying or what their expectations were. No, it's not 100% pure-breed regional Italian. (But they do speak Italian!) Maybe it's not the most prolific wine collection (really can't say). But the food quality and preparation is really fine, in the opinion of two New York diners/travelers. Yes, location, location ... they have high rents near Lincoln Center and not so many tourists in New York winter, but this restaurant has held its own and from our experience tonight, is comfortable, quaint, cozy, and good. Check out their menu - they have many soups, appetizers, desserts and main courses which we didn't sample this time (maybe next). But this was my impression, anyway, based on this one experience.

A real Italian chef would be ashamed of the generic stuff they serve here. Red sauce is diced tomatoes apparently straight from the can, and the veg is mass feeding carrots and green beans. They get you in and out fast but the resemblance to real Italian cooking is skiggy

It's fantastic. It's also a large cut and actually wild salmon with the dark red color from eating all that krill. My waitress was also very attentive.

I come here often with my husband and I’m never disappointed! The owner (Peter) is so friendly and accommodating and the staff are professional. The food is sooooo good and reasonably priced…not to mention the bartender (Velto)…the best!

This restaurant is a jewel. The management is caring and the food was exceptional. I had their squash special with shrimp and chicken. It was delicious and the portion was very generous.

Four couples attended our visit on this past Friday. In all my years, I have never been so impressed with a restaurant. I am almost 70 years old and grew up in the restauant business. This place is amazing. We all had different items for appetizers and different entrees as well as 3 different desserts. They were all excellent. We had Lobster, pork chops, fish, and veal scallopine, as well as others. My appetizer was stuffed peppers. I have eaten stuffed peppers but never like this. My entree was the scallopine. The serving was so large (they all were ) that I had to take home half of it, so that I would have room for the excellent Tira Misu. By the way, every one of the people in the party were stunned that I could not finish my entree, which was awesome. The service was friendly, personable and very efficient thrioughout the meal. Everyone made you feel that they were glad to have you there despite a full dining room. They also have a pleasant room that is open for parties. The last two times that I have been there the entire bar had people dining. Two couples were from Suffolk county, including my wife and I. We will travel back to this restaurant which is located on the Malverne and Valley Stream border. These towns are located less than 2 miles from the Queens line but well worth the trip. This place has taken the top spot on my list of special places to eat.

Went to dinner with friends after a show at Lincoln Center. Had a reservation and were quickly seated. Physical layout was a little tight with a narrow width to the restaurant and tables close together. Service was good by wait staff who were very pleasant. A few specials were given, but not an over abundance of them that you can't remember what was said. Portions and quality of the food was good. Prices in line with other restaurants.

This was a wonderful introduction to dinner in New York. If weather permits eat outside. Food is wonderful and generously proportioned. Would definitely recommend.

My dining companion and I enjoyed our meals at Pomodoro Rosso Ristorante on Columbus Avenue near Lincoln Center. Service was efficient and the food was served in tasteful presentations that had generous portions. Focaccia bread, olives and olive oil were served with our cocktails. We enjoyed the Pomodoro Bellini. The pasta e fagioli soup was warm and hearty with sumptuous vegetables. The Linguine Naturali, whole wheat linguine with jumbo shrimp and seasonal vegetables served in garlic truffle sauce with fresh tomatoes, was very fresh and tasty. The Piccatina di Vitello, sautéed veal in a white wine lemon caper sauce, also had a tender texture that accentuated the lemon. All in all, the restaurant served elegant Italian cuisine in a very quaint and attractive setting.

I had the Fried Calamari here ($15), I was very disappointed. The flavor was so mild, at times it seemed like it had no flavor at all. Two minutes after I ordered it, the waiter brought it out. I do not cook, but it seems like that was too short a time for proper care, preparation and frying to have occurred. It was a large portion so I had no room for anything else.

Not your average pizza-place-plus. They offer some of the usuals and also imaginative twists with fresh ingredients and tastes. We really enjoyed an eggplant appetizer and two chicken entrees.

Better than ever! I hadn’t eaten here since before the pandemic. The food is better than before. Chicken park incredible. Service great. Well done!

What a gem of a restaurant!! Cheerful décor, clean and welcoming. Friendly staff, fast service. It is difficult to decide what to order and the specials make it harder. Everyone at our table enjoyed their entrée. Delicious food in large servings. Nice wine list. We were planning our next visit as we left the restaurant, it was that good.

If you are looking for a "comfort" bland pasta-that is the place. If you expect mastery, innovation or cooking-skills go some place else.

Incredible food and service! Quaint, cozy it felt like a family run establishment. I recommend the Bellini - it was so yummy!!!

The worst attitude and discrimination on site. The waiter Goran, treats Asian guests with quite the attitude. My boys told him that it was my birthday as soon as we sat down, and Goran had no expression on his cold and stiff face, he walked away: he only stays warm and attentive with white guests. Later he brought a birthday cake to a table where the guest is a white male celebrating birthday as well. We have been eating at that restaurant for more than 20 years, and Goran is the worst waiter. He chooses to ignore Asian guests, and only answers to white guests. He throws tabs to Asian guests and simply takes orders and leaves. The worst. Don’t think about ordering takeout from there as the restaurant Just ignores you. When you call and ask them where is the food, the guy would say “don’t put words in my mouth”, “the Wi-Fi is down, kitchen closed, we can’t cook your food.” The worst restaurant!

2 salads no dressing on it, tasteless , eggs rancheros mexicano is awfull spicy as from the can beans were burned, nothing but 2 eggs and beans, coffee was as someone made as second run of the coffee beans , was served cold and when replaced I could not drink it was bad.

Very solid food. Good waitress experience. Loved the polenta and the vegetable soup. Ambience is old school NY Italian restaurant. Close tables limit private conversations, but overall a nice place.

This solid restaurant (of Seinfeld breakup fame) served up a variety of standard Italian dishes, each of which was tasty and generous. This is not a gourmet restaurant, but if you want a very good, satisfying dinner in a pleasant, fairly quiet setting, Pomodoro Rosso is to be recommended. Service was good. Price was fair.

Great!!! Everything was great. This is a classic Italian Restaurant in NYC. Went there early on a Friday night. The service was tremendous. Everybody was very attentive but not overbearing. The food came as ordered and was delicious. We had mussels for an appetizer tortellini and veal for dinner. Cheese cake with real whipped cream topped it off. I was so stuffed I had to walk it off. They also have a full bar which we did not try this time, but do keep in mind there are no free refills on soft drinks

Three of us ate dinner at this 'red-and-white' table-cloth restaurant the other night. The house 'special' salad of the night was wilted greens, taste-less lardons, un-ripe pears, and an insipid dressing. We all left half our plates untouched. My filet of sole was swimming in some buttery substance which (if there was fish within) was inedible, my friends salmon was equally dreadful, and my wife's carbonara was a mass of starch held together in a glutinous mass. This place may be good for visiting teenage tourists looking for cheap 'meatballs & spaghetti' but it's no place for Italian food. Management made no comment on all the uneaten food we returned to the kitchen.

First time here. Very good service!!! Nice menu selection. We were very pleased with everything we ordered......from the tricolore salads to the fresh mottzerella and tomoto appetizer to our entrees. Eggplant parmigiana and chicken parmigiana. We will definitely be returning.

Found this place after leaving Central Park. Limited seating outside but we managed a table . Plenty of seating inside . I had the panini with fries and my husband had the salad whilst my girls shared a pizza . Plenty of food , pleasant staff and pleasant location . Reasonably priced . Restrooms at back of restaurant could do with a makeover .

This place has a pleasant, unassuming atmosphere that seemingly contradicts the creativity and exceptional quality their dishes. This was my second visit and the food is always excellent. The staff are attentive. The ambiance has a comfortable, Italian feel that makes you relax the moment you sit down. Pomodoro has become a "must-go" place when I visit NYC.

It was a beautiful day so we thought we would sit outside as inside, the air conditioning was too low and cold. Of course in the summer, why would you carry a coat? The wait person was lovely and accommodating. The food was bland and for a person who takes in limited salt, that says a lot! Files were everywhere and we couldn't enjoy a second without having to wave our arms around. You would think they would have a bug zapper to control the outdoor seating area! Finally we gave up as too many flies were landing on our calamari. When we mention the unfortunate situation, the older managers or owner gave us his defense attitude instead of trying to make sure that we were comfortable enough to come back again. Raising his voice to us and saying, "You chose to sit outside!" Will never eat here again!!

Consistently great food and great service. Have gone here for years. This time of year you can eat outside. Held a celebratory retirement event recently in their semi private room and was very happy.

This neighborhood Italian restaurant offers top quality food in large portions. The service is "good". The restaurant layout offers opportunities to enjoy a quiet meal IF you reserve a table in the middle or the back part of restaurant. A very good dessert and excellent coffee finish a very enjoyable night out. Reservations are essential if you want to get a table even on a weekday.

We love this place. The food is fantastic and the price is always right. The Tagliagette spinach pasta and shrimp is an absolute favorite full of flavor. The lobster ravioli are delicious and generous in size. Since moving to the Upper West Side we vote this place as our favorite go to

The food is good but expensive. Nothing important to say abouy. The place is very italian and clean.

Was not in the mood for pasta so I ordered "16 oz porterhouse" steak florentine . Cost $38. What came was a thin (3/8 inch steak , chewy, could not have weighed much more than half advertised description, cool in middle so I am sure it was previously frozen Would have sent it back but needed to make show, was with friends and did not want to put a damper or slow things down. Would sterr others clear.

The only reason I’m giving a poor review is due to payment of my bill My wife and I had a wonderful dinner at Pompdoro Rosso. The food was delicious and the service was very good When I paid the bill I used my credit card. Instead of adding the tip to my credit charge I gave the server a $20 tip in cash on a 96.20 bill. Later when I checked my credit card I was billed an additional $15.00. I called the restaurant and explained what happened and asked the manager or owner to please call so we could receive a credit back on my card. This was over a week ago. I have not received the courtesy of a call back. I really do not like giving this review but I suggest that you keep copies of receipts like I do if you plan on dining at Pompodoro Rosso

We've visited this place for a quick early dinner, and we had only pastas. The food was very tasty, fresh and well cooked. Sitting in a garden during day is nice, as there is quite dark inside.

Convenient to lower West Side. Big portions, flavor good but not great. Somewhat small and loud interior. Would not go there again.

Low key, non-trendy, dependable neighborhood restaurant, exactly what NYC needs so many more of. Not inexpensive, but fair value, very good food, both fresh and dry pasta, wider menu than you would expect with trattoria standards plus a bit of innovation and interesting specials. I have tried it at least half a dozen times and been consistently pleased, as have friends in tow. The staff are friendly and accommodating, the food hot and freshly made.

It was okay but not worth the price. My entree was mediocre The shrimp appetizer excellent but 4 shrimp for $18 was pricey. The tiramisu top notch$200 for 2 with 2 glasses of house wine each. That's before tip. Stick with Becco next time.

We are staying nearby and decided to try this restaurant. We were seated quickly and the staff was wonderful. The food looked great on the menu but sadly it did not translate to the flavor. I liked the location and the ambiance but the flavor of the food didn't match.

Delicious Italian food and fabulous ambience. Loved the bread and olive oil offered at your table. Good service.

I had never been here before , went off reviews from Trip Advisor and it did not disappoint! The atmosphere was nice, very comfortable. There is outdoor seating. The food was amazing, great , quick service. Would definitely recommend!

Came out of Central Park and needed a nice lunch place. Surfed Tripdvisor and found this nice little place. It was a sunny day and sitting outside eating a nice fresh pasta and having some wine was excellent.

1/2 way between Long Island and New Jersey is Manhattan. By suggestion we tried Pomodoro Rosso on the UWS to meet friends for Saturday night dinner! The atmosphere was perfect! Food delicious and yes- there is parking on the street! We have salads- big enough to share! The chef creates each meal individually so requesting a modification was not a problem. We loved the Veal Parmigian and Wild Salmon with Bowtie Pasta and fresh vegetables! Desserts are plentiful -biscotti plate is a generous portion and they are perfect for dipping in your coffee

Everything I ate there was good, I really didn't have any complaints. I just wasn't really impressed and it wasn't too memorable. Would I return? No. Would I recommend to others? Probably not just because there are so many other options in NYC!

We have dined here on several occasions and find it a very pleasant venue for lunch and/or for dinner when on the upper west side. On our most recent "late lunch" visit, my friend had the carciofi alla Romana (a steamed whole artichoke in a white wine and lemon sauce) and the penne with Italian sausage. I tasted both and they were quite good. I had the melanzane (eggplant with tomatoes, olives and fontina cheese) and the linguine alla vongole (linguine with tiny New Zealand baby clams in white wine sauce). Both my appetizer and entree were very good. Since it was a hot afternoon we both had red wine sangrias in addition to sparkling water for our beverages. The service is very professional and attentive. Food is consistently very good.Outside dining under cover is available as are two interior dining areas. Pomodoro Rosso is a very good choice for good food and service in a casual/upscale atmosphere. We will continue to return.

Looking for good Italian food dinner on Saturday night while house sitting on the Upper West Side. Had walked by here 100's of time--but not tonight. A real neighborhood restaurants--many locals but felt very welcomed. We will be definitely back for some home cooked meals.

While we literally stumbled on to this place for lunch I would go back for dinner. We had fresh made panni's with great service as the restaurant began to fill. If you visiting Central Park or the American Museum head down Columbus Ave for lunch or head over for dinner which we will try at some point back in NYC.

Food: Not bad, fresh ingredients Space: Decent, little bit cousi Service: Not attention to customer at all, we called the waitress many times ( to take the order, to ask for water, to clean the table, to get the ticket) never serve me the drink... I don’t even sled for it.. A place to visit if you don’t care about service. I will not return !

When you enter Pomodoro you feel like family right away. Peter knows all his regulars and gives them a huge greeting. It's a quaint restaurant with lots of warmth in it. The waiters are professional and very accommodating. If there's something you want that isn't on the menu that's not a problem for them. Any food allergy, not a problem for them at all. Whatever you want they'll try to make it for you. The food is extremely fresh and absolutely delicious! I had the chicken Parmesan and loved it. It's not breaded or fried and it's even better than if it was. I don't know what their secret is, but whatever they're doing they're doing it right! The pasta dishes that we ordered we all amazing! The salads were so fresh and made to perfection. Cannot say enough about our dinner and how great Peter treated us. We walked out with big smiles on our faces and great tastes in our mouths. Thanks so much for a wonderful dining experience! Cannot wait to come back!

We met family for dinner here one Friday night. Some of us arrived early to have a drink at the bar while we waited but our table was ready and they were more than happy to seat us. And when another niece joined us last minute they happily added another chair. The service was incredible, i.e. water glasses always full, servers quick to provide whatever we needed. The food was incredible. All of us really enjoyed what we ordered and even though some only had a bite left, we took it home unwilling to leave even a bite behind.

As good as any Italian restaurants you would find in Italy. Cozy little corner table. Wonderful staff. Started with bread (of course). Shared a bottle of their red wine. Had their capellini with Putanesca sauce. Not often do Italian restaurants offer this sauce complete with Anchovies. Everything was delicious. Decent pricing for NYC. Quiet part of town.

We loved the home made fettuccini tomatoes basil. Fantastic. Started with muscle app and bread was delicious. Chianti from Italy rounded out a great meal.

A lovely gem of a place. Delicious food, helpful staff and an entire selection of gluten free options. Wonderful.

The price is reasonable for an authentic Italian dinner. The staff is overly helpful and friendly. I come here EACH trip to NYC. I recommend Rigotoni Alla Grappa and the steamed artichoke appetizer. You will not be disappointed!

This was one of the worst Italian meals I’ve ever had. I order the special chicken Marsala. It should have been labeled lemon chicken because there wasn’t a hint of Marsala on the dish. Plus it was served with cheese on top…who ever heard of serving chicken Marsala with cheese. There was a medley of over cooked vegetables and sausage…again what were they thinking? We also ordered profiteroles, another mistake. When delivered I had to ask the waiter what it was, thinking they had brought the wrong dessert. There was so much whip cream that you couldn’t see the profiteroles. Would never go back to this restaurant.

So mom requested Italian cuisine and I was very hesitant to try any new restaurants. A lot of these Italian restaurants in the city are not authentic! But boy was I wrong! The service was superb, the food from the antipasti to dessert was amazing. Tasty and not quenched in thick heavy sauces. My only dissatisfaction was the cappuccino. It was too strong, not a typical cappuccino. Felt like we had an espresso. Besides that, we enjoyed everything. Well worth it.

Peter and the staff here have set a very nice and consistent tone for the place. They are reliable, friendly and kind. Chicken Caesar Salad and fish dishes always yummy. Guys at the bar are great too if you just want a cocktail before doing something at Lincoln Center as well.

Restaurant is about 5 blocks from Lincoln Center, but in the West 70s, so there is a mix of locals and Lincoln Center visitors. Very nice. The food was wonderful. Believe it or not, the highlight (or at least one of them) was the bread. The wine was wonderful. Each member of our family had a different fish dish and each was as good as the other. The service was quite good, and a special shout out to the young man who, after one of us sipped from our water glass, refilled the glass. He was more attentive than anyone I've ever seen at a restaurant. The only negatives were that the tables are tight and, because of that, you can hear everything -- and I mean everything -- the people sitting next to you are saying. Otherwise, wonderful experience. Just try to go when it's a little less crowded.

About 10 blocks from natural history museum, this is one of the better Italian restaurants in the neighborhood, mostly due to the fresh pastas offered on the menu. Its a neighborhood restaurant, its been on Seinfeld, the pasta is above average - some dishes you can only find here, especially the Mafaldina al Sugo di Carne, wide fettuchine loaded with meat sauce. Its not on the lunch menu, but they may be willing to serve it if you ask (I have done this.)

Absolutely awful! Poor quality food cooked in a fast food style, terrible tasteless vegetables, overcooked deep-fried fish in a greasy sauce, smelly surroundings. Avoid!

The service here was so good! They were very attentive but not at all intrusive. The polenta appetizer was incredibly light, but rich. I had the fish special, and the fish was fine, but the vegetables were the star of the show! Great wines by the glass, too.

What a little Gem of a place. Great atmosphere, great menu and amazing food. We had the Tomato soup and Artichoke as starters and then the Tortellini and Lobster Ravioli as mains. Absolutely divine. To end the evening we tried the Tiramisu - some of the best I ever had

While visiting NYC, I met a local friend there and the food was delicious. We had made reservations through Open Table and the staff was totally prepared for us and extremely nice.Only complaint was a tiny bathroom tucked in the rear of the restaurant that required you to feel in the way of the staff if the room was occupied already. I am a generous tipper and the ticket was $150 total for 3 people with no alcohol.

...do as the west siders do. We were at Pomodoro Rosse for dinner on a Wednesday night about a week ago (I've also been there early last summer for lunch). Coincidentally, we both ordered the wild salmon filet so couldn't really share dishes. But it was delicious. For a Wednesday night, the place was crowded so it's a good thing we made reservations. Very convenient to the Beacon Theatre and just a little further to Lincoln Center. And if you do there, be sure to ask about the Seinfeld connection.

Very generous portions of really good tasting Italian - almost family style size. We had the truffle fries and grilled calamari which were both nice. The kids enjoyed both. I had the seafood pasta which was perfect. The pasta with meat sauce was the best dish ordered by the table. The wine list was good and the owner kept checking on us throughout our time there despite the restaurant being totally packed. Defiantly going to be our go to place for Italian

Went there on a sunny afternoon on a Sunday. Little did we know that the next day all restaurants in NYC would close (Corona). The restaurant is on the cozy Upper West Side. Tree lined streets everywhere. The bar section is intimate, and has a classic feel to it. The restaurant looks very friendly inside. We sat at the bar. Afternoon, it was perfect time for a beer, Grappa and espresso, just like it's done in Italy. the espresso came with a slice of lemon rind, which gave an extra flavor. Hope to be back soon!

Was in New York for 6 nights and this was they only restaurant where I had steak. Was a very good steak. Very good service. Was my priciest meal but no complaints. Only complaint was the table cloth was not changed after last guest. I watched while waiting for an outdoor table.

Has been here for years! They have great fresh and dry pasta - very accommodating to what type of pasta you want with your dish. Cozy place - great pre-show or date night.

I couldn't have said it better than Zagat's review: "It's like “mama's in the kitchen” cooking up “hearty” Italian classics at this “quaint” UWS vet near Lincoln Center, a “quintessential neighborhood gem” run with “loving care”; since it's “always busy”, insiders make reservations to dodge the “wait for a table.” Insiders tip: go hungry and make a reservation. They have the timing down and do a stellar job of seating you on time. Our host was apologetic that we were seated 5 minutes late. The portions are designed for cyclists that just rode the Tour de France.

This restaurant is located right outside of Central Park, upper westside, within walking distance. We were in the City to watch The Rockettes although cancelled, and made reservations for dinner here. We wanted a place easy on the wallet, but tasty, and this place was just the right place. We love the covered outdoor seating option, to be able to watch the cars and people go by, which is heated by the way. The city in December is beautiful. The waiter seemed to enjoy his job, and was very pleasant. We all had dinners, and very satisfied, chicken and veal parm, T-bone and the tortellini in cream sauce. Loved the cream sauce, more of an Alfredo sauce then light cream. We topped if off with wine and dessert. Very happy with our stop in the city at Pomodoro.

The service is great - friendly staff. The atmosphere is slightly fancy but it still good with kids. The food is EXCELLENT - we all love it there. Very good Italian food. VERY highly recommended.

A fabulous Italian restaurant that was recommended to us by a Canadian couple we met in Barbados, it has a taverna feel to it and you don't need to dress up, when we visited it was freezing but i bet its lovely in the summer when you can sit outside, cost about £40 a head but we did not have a sweet

The food - supposed to be cooked in an Italian fashion - is quite poor. They managed to serve Tomato Bruschette with a loot of raw onions on top (is this Italian ?). The Piccata di Vitello was overovercooked (hospital style !) and the dressing was sticky. The waiter was coming continuously - and without a reason - to our table to top up water (is this the way to show courtesy and justify the tip ?). It is a great Italian restaurant if you like a foreign messy interpretation of Italian cuisine !!!

Pomodoro was recommended by the empire hotel concierge. What a fabulous recommendation! We had portobello mushroom appetizer stuffed with seafood in a rose sauce, followed by lobster stuffed ravioli (spouse) and whole wheat vegetable shrimp linguini with truffle oil n garlic. Just yum. DO try this place! Slightly off the beaten track at Columbus circle. 👍

We ate here after seeing a show at Lincoln Center. Very nice. Lots of menu options and the food/service were both excellent. The tables are close together - but welcome to NYC on that one. This is a great option for Italian in this neighborhood.

a step above basic italian on the upper west side. great food. no long waits. friendly owner and staff. large volume glasses of wine

Bread was stale, wait staff were pushy and over the top (pushed to order and vacate quickly) and the meal was poor. I had the chicken and pesto gnocchi. Chicken was overcooked and pesto was watery. Certainly NOT authentic Italian

We had a lovely dinner at Pomodoro Rosso. I got grilled salmon and my boyfriend got chicken parmesan. The wine was delicious as was the food. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the chicken parm was also just right. There were a variety of salads to choose from and we got different ones - both loved what we got. I like the checked red table cloths and the service was excellent. Although it's not a big space, the tables are far enough apart that we had enough privacy. Absolutely happy with the experience and will definitely be back.

Relaxed atmosphere, neighborhood italian Restaurant. Pleasant welcome. Surprisingly good food!!! Wants to go back!

Great food! Family oriented. Will hurry if you have a show. The red sangria is delicious. Their sauce is so good, very hard to find good red sauce! They have it mastered.

This is my D-I-L's fav restaurant in this area, so I wanted to try it. Their specials spoke to us, so we ordered their broccoli/shrimp/goat cheese balls smothered in a red sauce. Seriously? I could've made a meal out of those!!! I ordered the swordfish special and my jaw dropped when it was delivered - Huge portions and very good! My son couldn't jump 'off the board' as he always gets the lobster ravioli. I tried it?... Yep bid get that FOR SURE! The service?... AWESOME! It's been the best service I've experienced this far in this area.

Friendly neighborhood Italian place. Reliable service for the past several years. Our favorites are carbonara and tri-color cheese tortellini. However, other pastas like spaghetti with meatballs could be better.

That wasn't our destination, but since we were nearby we called to book and within 20 minutes we were already sitting at the table. Excellent pizza and dessert too, friendly staff.

Food and cuisine is far away to be italian ... Service and location mediocre but the worst is the wine selection highly cheap-oriented

Watched this restaurant being built and couldn't wait to try it. The food was awesome, staff was friendly and vibe/decor was beautiful for a local restaurant.

The restaurant was filled on a Sunday night. Nice artichoke dishes for appetizer. Very good house wines. A long list of home made pastas. Spaghetti with sausage, meatballs and little balls of mozzarella is very tasty as well as veal stew with papardelle.

Looking for some good Italian cuisine after touring the Met we stopped in to Pomodoro Rosso. The restaurant has the look of a classic New York Italian restaurant and we found the service to be okay. We ordered the Linguine Frutti di Mare($29) and the Pappardelle al Costaceo($30) plus a glass of wine($11) and a Moretti Beer($8). All I can say is that we were disappointed in both dishes and I found the Linguine, though filled with mussels, clams, scallops & calamari, to be actually tasteless, which I know is hard to believe. Bottomline, for about $100 including tax & tip we had below average quality Italian cuisine, Needless to say, we will never be going back.

I hopped in for a late lunch/brunch on a Saturday around 2PM. All outside seats were taken by couples and families enjoying the spring sun. Also inside there was a nice crowd but it was not completely full. I was greeted by a friendly waiter and could choose one of the few open tables. In a matter of minutes the waiter brought me some warm bread with butter - always a good welcome. I ordered a bottle of San Pellegrino and a glass of a Primitivo, which turned out to be a very good and balanced wine. As a starter I ordered the mozzarella / tomato with basil. It was served very pure & simple but with the service of freshly ground pepper from the waiter. The mozzarella slices were a bit thick too my taste and I would have appreciated a bit more tomato for a place that is called "Pomodoro Rosso" but all in all a very nice start; As a main dish I ordered the spaghetti carbonara. This dish was cooked to perfection and was full of flavor. The parmesan and the pancetta in the right quantity and the pasta was truly "al dente" with the poached egg a nice addition. I finished with a cup of good espresso to be ready for a walk in Central Park , just 5 minutes from this restaurant. I will be back for dinner.

Lunch consisting of a salad and eggplant Parmesan! Salad was over dressed- eggplant okay! Nothing to write home about! been spoilt with so much good Italian in the NYC particularly in Staten Island that food was just mediocre. Any pizza shop on SI would do better!

Great place for a classic Italian dinner. I enjoyed a large serving of chicken parmigiana and left with a full spaghetti dinner that had been my side. The special summer salad with melon, blueberries, and strawberries along with prosciutto was absolutely delicious.

This was a good find while walking around on the Upper West Side. Food is excellent. I had a wonderful pasta here. This restaurant filled up surprisingly fast after we were seated; I suspect it is a neighbohood favorite. We will likely add it our list of restaurants to stop at when we visit NY.

If you want delicious food and great service, this restaurant certainly delivers. We had the veal piccata and the shrimp sautéed with garlic. Our meals were cooked perfectly. The only downside to this restaurant is that it is cramped. You feel like you are sitting with your neighbors table; especially at the tables for 2.

A nice-appearing neighborhood restaurant with seriously bad NYC restaurant inspection ratings, including: "Raw, cooked or prepared food is contaminated...filth flies or food/refuse...roaches present in food and/or non-food areas...personal cleanliness [of staff] inadequate...hair restraint not worn in area where food is prepared...food not protected from potential source of contamination...food contact surface not properly washed." Source: NYC Dept. of Health and Mental Hygiene. What else do you need to know? Risky, at best.

We were staying nearby and happened upon this restaurant just walking in the area. They seated us without a reservation. We had a great meal and the service was fantastic.

I would recommend EVERYTHING about this resto: friendly professional staff, superior service, ambience, menu. Above all, SUPERIOR food. We are visitors to NYC once a year or so and ALWAYS eat at Pomodoro. Highly recommend the lobster ravioli!!! The staff are a huge part of the experience, attentive to everything but not intrusive in any way. We have been lucky on 3 occasions to have the Maitre D ask at the end of our meal if he could buy us an after dinner drink (sambucca, limoncello, etc). How special that made us feel!!! I will always eat at Pomodoro when I visit NYC!!! No doubt about it. Well done Pomodoro!!!!!

We were going to the Village Vanguard and popped in by chance. Very friendly and welcoming, found us a great table and the pizza was superb. Best espresso we have had in New York

I can't get enough of this trattoria! We eat at Pomodoro Rosso every time we're in the city, and it's always fresh and fabulous. Our server Michaela was so helpful with recommendations and she's just really nice. The owner, Peter, visited with us as he made his rounds speaking with his clientele. PR a neighborhood spot, has great food, fair prices, and excellent service. We sat outside on the patio and watched people walk by on Columbus Ave. A glass of wine, wonderful pasta, great salads, fabulous glasses of wine.....All in all, another perfect evening!

This place is fine- not great, not bad. Cute decor, if old fashioned. It gets a robust crowd- reliable southern Italian choices. Not inexpensive-

We started with a scrumptious tuna and avocado appetizer that was one of tonight's specials. Fettuccine with meatballs might sound mundane, but it was exceptional. A pork with a lemon butter sauce was equally delicious, as was the eggplant parmesan featuring stacks of thinly sliced eggplant. Expect to take home leftovers - the portions are substantial. Pomodoro Rosso is very convenient after a matinee at Lincoln Center. We'll be back.

First rate dining experience, full bar, good selection of wines. Enjoyed the restaurant for three meals, all with different main courses. Salmon was the top choice.

Great restaurant-Second time around-as good as the first time. Love the place-GREAT service and GREAT food! Paulo was AMAZING , he even tweeked our meal to make me happy! Thank you!

We arrived for an early dinner without a reservation and were seated promptly. Everyone we encountered was so friendly and so attentive; service was excellent. The interior is charming and casual, with an exposed brick wall on one side and a muraled wall on the other. It's a long, narrow space and tables are close together. Our table for two was small. If you have a coat or purse, they'll hang to the floor off the short chairs. Our fried mozzarella and zucchini appetizer was incredibly tasty. Serving size for pasta dishes was generous. Pasta was quality and appeared homemade. My fettuccine pomodoro had too many garlic pieces for my palate; otherwise it was very good. We very much enjoyed our meals and would return.

I had a salad Nicoise which was really nice, but the gnocchi my son had were great. Great bread, nice wine list. A very pleasant place to have a leisurely meal. Right on Columbus Ave, so convenient if you're in the area.

I was tempted by artichokes a la romana as appetizer. I know very well how it is done in Roma. So I was very much surprised to be served with a whole artichoke upside down in the plate. When I cut it, it was not even cleaned inside and there was nothing to eat. I told the waiter to advise the chef to learn more about italian food. He just answered ok. He did not propose another appetizer and it was not taken off our bill. Furthermore, the special of the day was sea bass. We ordered two and were finally told that there was no more sea bass but groupper. We accepted but again the quality and price of groupper have nothing to compare with those if sea bass. Again, no difference on the bill. I did not say anything as we were invited by friends known in the restaurant. If by myself, I certainly would have shown my discontentment.

I used to be a regular. Live on the UWS. The food is good and the staff are nice. The kitchen CAN NOT follow direction. Having to continually send food back for the same mistake is infuriating. I have had them forget to put capers in the same dish MANY times. Sent it back and had them just throw COLD Capers from fridge on my Shrimp. a $29 entree and the cook doesn't have enough respect for the diner to fix the problem correctly. Mistakes happen. It's how you fix them. That was just rude. They over pepper constantly. Requesting NO PEPPER on shrimp and chicken will get you no where. There was so much pepper on my dish last week I could not eat it. I don't always have the time to wait for them to make it 2X. That is IF they would actually fix it that way. It's a shame but how many times do you you want to pay for something you can not eat.

A genuine Italian with cosy interior and swift, polite service. Plenty to choose from, almost too much :). Starters as well as mains and desserts are great. A bit pricey mains, though but, hey, it’s NYC... Teo kids can easily split one main at reasonable $4 surcharge.

Let's talk the good first- excellent calamari fritti, insalata tre colore and lobster ravioli. The spaghetti carbonara was mediocre as was the melanzane and sarde fritti special. The carbonara featured over cooked pasta and gooey sauce, the sarde were small fillets v. the traditional whole fish- over breaded and very greasy. Our waiter was inattentive, impatient and borderline rude. The owner stopped by our table and was quite personable and attentive. Because we were out with older relatives I opted not to express my true impressions to him at the time. This is clearly a better restaurant than demonstrated during our visit or they would not have survived in NY as long as they have. I suspect we just caught them on an off night. I will go back and give them another chance.

Went with friends while in the city for lunch. Had a great chicken Panini. Beautiful day so we sat outside.

A good friend of mine bring me here to eat. She knew EVERYONE who worked in this establishment, including the owner. This place was packed! Very calm atmosphere. All the waiters were friendly. This place was CLEAN! reminds me of a place out of one of those old skool mobster movies. We were attended to quickly. Their fried calamary was DELICIOUS! The Vodka pasta with chicken was pretty good too. The prices were fairly reasonable. The environment was superb! I recommend this place. It's not a chain restaurant so make sure you try to get reservations or go with enuff time to spare if you have to wait for a table. Very low key spot. You will not find rachetness going on in this venue. You will only find good food, great people and an enjoyable time.

Whenever we are uptown, our choice of restaurant is the Pomodoro located between 70th and 71st. On Columbus Ave. The Maitre de Peter has been there for the last 23 years and greets all of the patrons as long time friends. The waiters are very attentive , friendly and knowledgable as to any questions you may have regarding the menu. They will offer adjustments if you don't like something. We had the linguini, fruiti de mare, and the gnocchi with chicken in pesto. Yummmmy! The house Chianti is bold and enjoyable.

A sort of “:spur of the moment” , “ TA Special “ .4 of us came here on a very very cold night after Thanksgiving . Quite crowded but very welcoming . Huge portions of very nice food with great service . A bit more than usual price wise but not too bad . A real neighbourhood special .

While it might be off the tourist path, it certainly app to me this restaurant is well patronized by the neighborhood customers as they and the staff know each other well. It is cozy and a bit tight, but the food is tasty and generous in portion, the service is good. The bar is well stocked. We certainly don’t mind to come back when we are in the area.

Excellent food, excellent service, and the owner or manager cared whether or not we were enjoying our time and food. I highly recommend this place and I would definitely go back if in the area again. All 4 meals were awesome.

We were brought to this restaurant by our New York friends who have been eating here regularly for over 20 years as a special treat. It was a hot day so we sat outside in the shade of the awning so we could watch the world go by. The owner was there immediately making a fuss of us and describing the day's special pasta - ravioli with wild mushroom and rib meat filling in a cream sauce. It sounded fabulous and tasted delicious. I started with their homemade tomato soup served inside a large hollowed out bread roll, it was so delicious! The photos do not really do it justice. The wine was really good too. Tiramisu for dessert was light yet rich and lovely. The service was very attentive and prompt, we had such a lovely time!

This is an average Italian Restaurant, nothing special about food quality or service. Food is OK, prices quite steep, but this is New York. Tip: if you want a reasonable quantity of Parmesan ground on your salad or pasta, you have to firmly insist.

We enjoyed our meals here and took the leftovers with us to enjoy for lunch, which we enjoyed the next day. Great menu and pasta dishes, delicious bread at the table as well. There is some outside seating in the front, but we ate inside. Nice Italian décor.

Very good Italian food. Enjoy the Lincoln Center and walk a few blocks to this fine restaurant. The service is excellent.

Nice place with great hand painted murals and checkered table clothes. Our waiter was very low key but thorough. Nice variety of selections and all the food was very tasty. I would definitely return.

The location is on the cozy west side and the ambience inside is lovely. The food was just good enough, but not worth the price for the quality. The eggplant parm was rubbery and super salty. The pasta was the most al dente I have ever been served at a restaurant (and I am Italian and usually like al dente pasta, but this was just too firm). The sauce was unremarkable. Bread ok, salad good with a super salty balsamic dressing and very little of it. I've had much better eggplant at many restaurants in New Jersey at the shore. The owner couldn't be bothered to even look at me (middle aged white woman) or another middle aged white woman a few tables away. He greeted a couple who seemed to be regulars warmly, though. The rest of the staff was excellent and the service very good. Probably won't return.

Average. Not what you expect more from NYC Italian cuisine. Arriving on time for our reservation we were seated in a tiny table (party of 5) in a corner table that looked was next to the wait station/kitchen. Crammed in like sardines. The fact that the table was shaky was the tipping point, so we asked to move to the six-top that was available, they said, we were just five. OK, 5 people in a six top (outrageous request, right?). Plus, we were early, and it was a 5pm reservation. 5 pm! Anyway, they did move us after a bit of complaining. Then we were kinda of deserted by the busboys - no water, bread, etc. When our waitress finally showed up a little while later (maybe she was just on, maybe because we moved into her station), she was a very good waitress and was tipped accordingly. We cannot complain about her individual service. However, management and the busboys were not welcoming or hospitable. The food was OK, but nothing extra special,. The atmosphere, OK. Again, nothing special. When we are in NYC, our Italian go-to is Scarlotto on Theatre Row, always great food, service, and atmosphere. We tried to go there, no reservations were available. One shout out - the Eggplant Fritters were exceptionally good. Order them if they are available - I think they were a special that night.

We have eaten at Pomodoro many times. Convenient to Lincoln center, the food and service are good and the prices reasonable.

This Italian restaurant has plenty of cuisine and each has wonderful taste. This is why I always come back. The service is excellent. Nothing is bad except price is $$$

Wife and I shared excellent beet salad appetizer. She then had striped bass; I had chicken rolled around asparagus and soppressata. All delicious. My desert was tartufo; wife had tiramisu, superb. Dollars quite reasonable. Ate at table outside. Great place.

My wife and I were getting hungry so we stopped at the Pomodoro Pizza. We found a table on the sidewalk and watched the people passing on the street. the waitress was there instantly and was quick to bring our drinks. thee pizza took a few minutes and was hot and delicious. It was the right amount to fill a person but not overfill them. The price was reasonable also.

Enjoyed a lovely meal here. Pasta was lovely with a slow cooked sauce. Pizza was excellent. Good service. Nice wine.

Our favorite in this enclave of Italian restaurants. Various salad main dishes, especially the arugula-shrimp-avocado one, were fresh and interesting. Shrimp came either nicely charred but not overdone or with a mild tomato sauce. The veal parmigiana was especially well flavored, not overly breaded, but tender and white. A layered eggplant in tomato sauce was lovely and delicious. Pasta with tomato sauce was simple but well cooked. Maybe because we came for lunch, the portions were rather small and wine came by the glass only. Service was gracious and friendly.

We stopped in for dinner. We had reservations but were a little late due to storms. They had our table ready for us when we got there. Our waiter took our order. Our food came quickly and was very good. The staff were back and forth constantly with more water or for what ever we need. The bread they bring out is excellent.

We came here for lunch with my wife and were gratefully surprised by its amiable personnel, a varied menu, a reasonable priced offer, and a very good location. You can sit outdoors as we did in a wonderful Summer afternoon. This time we went for Pizza which was wonderful. A Pizza with slim massa and tasty cheese and pomodoro sauce was simply great when you want to go on promenading Manhattan or Central Park. We had beer and I recommend the Samuel Adams which is a beer with great flavour. Very friendly waiters, a good location, tasty food, good beer. Try it and you won't regret.

We were looking for a place near Lincoln center that had a comfortable, warm intimate feel. We found it at Pomodoro. Made reservations, but we did get there 15 minutes early, and table was ready for us. Traditional and some more eclectic choices were available. All choices we made were delicious. All staff were attentive and friendly. Nice wine list and dessert, although we were more than full after two appetizers and our entrees. Bread baskets with oil and older ves were wonderful, and they kindly refilled the basket for my bread- loving boys. I did have a cappuccino to the end the night and it was on point. I would definitely return to Pomodoro and we look forward to exploring the menu further.

I just discovered my bill and tasting notes from a dinner we had in January before attending a performance at the Met. The calamari fritti ($15) was a bit overcooked but otherwise okay. A shared special salad ($15) was anything but. The pollo contadina ($28) was the star of the show; the moist chicken pieces were accompanied by sausage, potatoes and cherry peppers and anointed in a tasty wine sauce. The short ribs ($33) were short on flavor and tenderness. The ice cream sundaes ($10) were over-the-top bowls of goodness.

On the wekend I reccommend reservations. Close to our hotel and my son's apartment. Delicious, genuine Italian food and great service.

I made a reservation and was seated by a waiter. We sat down and another waiter came over and asked who seated us. How would I know his name? He said he had another reservation for my table. I asked him what he wanted to do. He said we had to leave the table even though we had a reservation. He was rude and quite honestly a terrible host. We actually had to leave the restaurant. I’ll never go back.

Such a beautiful restaurant and excellent dinner!! It was our first time at Pomodoro Rosso and it was just amazing!!! Thank u so much!!! Giani and Edy!!!

We were going to a show at the Triad theater just a few blocks away from Pomodoro Rosso so this seemed like a logical choice. The reviews I had read were good but what we experienced was excellent. Our server Neftali knew themes wasn’t was a big help in ordering. We started with an appetizer of calamari which was done to perfection followed by 2 Ceasar salads, also very good but small.I ordered the pappardelle bolognese which was incredible. I requested heavy on the garlic and they obliged !! My wife had the sole which was a large portion and delicious. What a great restaurant. Had coffee and a plate of biscotti fr desert. Perfect !!

Recommended to us by a friend who lives in the neighborhood, this gem of a restaurant exceeded our expectations. The food was great, and the service was outstanding. Everything we ordered was exceptional. The desserts were divine. Oh, and there was limoncello.... Fantastico!

This is the best restaurant in the area. We've been going there for 15 years and always have a great experience. The atmosphere is warm, the service very good and the food is excellent. The owner Peter and his staff understand hospitality and great food.

Excellent service, not pushy--- food was good and a good variety--- very popular with locals in the neighborhood so reservations are really a must

It was probably one of the most disappointing Italian restaurants in NYC. The eggplant dish was non-existent...just breading and the zuppe de pesce was fishy. The gnocchi was not so great either. We couldn't get out of there fast enough to find something more desirable elsewhere in the city. So costly for so little!

This is a cozy place for a nice meal with family or friends. The portions are generous and the food is well prepared with fair prices. The service is friendly and customers are never rushed.

Basic Italian on the Upper West Side. We were five poeple - Myhusband adn I shared an appetizer of burrata, ham, olives and toast and a main dish of whole wheat fresh linguini with shrimp, peas and broccoli florets in a toomato based sauce - absolutely delicious. Our friends had sole, a fish special with sauce on the side, and another pasta dish. Shared dessert - Tiramisu was superb, but the ice cream sundae was disappointing. Attentive service but the waitress had a heavy accent (not Italian) and was hard to understand.

Out with friends, reservation made, we got our table immediately. My husband and I are both watching what we're eating and shared the Pollo Rugantino. Not only was there more than enough for us both, they didn't hit us with a "sharing" charge. Oh, and the dinner was delicious! Very friendly staff, very much enjoyed our visit.

Went here for lunch today! It was beautiful and better than expected!! Staff were so friendly and helpful and good was lovely would recommend this as a place to go for Italian food.

We stopped at Pomodoro for an early evening dinner (no reservations). This is a nice establishment on Columbus Avenue. Interior is attractive. Good menu and our two items came from the kitchen very got. Service was attentive. Our only suggestion is a better attempt to thank patrons as they leave. We paid the bill (not really a thank you) and as we left we walked past several of the staff and likely a manager and no one said thank you or any other appropriate greeting. A missed opportunity.

Met friends for lunch before a Saturday matinee at Lincoln Center. It's not ostentatious - more like the local neighborhood Italian joint many of us grew up with. And that's great! The menu has multiple options, pricing extremely reasonable (especially given the neighborhood), service was attentive without being over the top. And the food was excellent. Everyone enjoyed their choices. Highlights: salmon pasta and gnocchi bolognese, and the best way to end a meal at an Italian eatery - tartuffo!! Would definitely return.

Maybe it was the large party of 10 who arrived just after us or maybe it was the post holiday blues.... but whatever it was, my most recent dining experience at Pomodoro Rosso can only be summed up in one word.... disappointing. Having ventured up to the area of the Lincoln Center to see a wonderful small museum, The Museum of American Folk Art (see my review) I searched on Trip Advisor for a nearby restaurant to eat. I searched for Italian, French and seafood restaurants and Pomodoro Rosso showed up as one of the top places priced at between $$ and $$$ . Granted the restaurant was ranked at #845 of the 10,000+ restaurants in NYC , but that still placed it in the top 10% which I concluded was high enough to insure that I would have a decent meal..... but that was a bad assumption. On the positive side the interior is very warm and inviting.... it can get a bit noisy given. the number of tables squeezed in but none the less it was fine. The same goes with the service ...it was pleasant and efficient. Accept for the bread and service, the entree , the wine, the prices and the value were all disappointing... Whenever I try out a restaurant for the first time, not knowing what they specialize in, I stick to the basics . If an Italian restaurant cant prepare good basic Italian dishes I'm surely not going to venture trying their specials of the day. Consequently, I ordered the veal parmesan and my friend ordered a pasta dish with salmon. In less than 5 mins time from placing our order our dishes were served.... my guest and I looked at one another and my guest questioned how the food could have been carefully prepared so quickly ? hmmmm, I wonder <G> ....This clearly was not a good sign. The food arrived piping hot as if it had just been removed from the microwave ... although the presentation was fine, both dishes lacked any distinct flavor and the veal was just tough and tasteless and way too hot to enjoy without letting it cool down.... when they say something tastes like shoe leather this was the case with this veal. Along with our entrees we ordered two glasses of average house wine that at $14/ glass was way over priced. After finishing our wine and paying our $80 + bill for lunch , my guest and I quickly departed seeking another establishment to enjoy desert and coffee. Its really quite sad that in a city known for great Italian culture and cuisine how hard it is to find a good Italian restaurant. Although there is a GREAT place in SoHo if you look for it in my list of reviews.

First night in New York close to mid town Manhattan walking, so we stopped in for an evening meal and found this Italian restaurant. I must say there wasn't a lot on the menu that seemed to interest me and I like Italian food, so I had the bake ziti, my wife had the eggplant parmesan. All was good but just didn't seem to give me that traditional Italian feel. was a bit pricey for what we got. and servers were not that attentive. Would probably try another place on my next visit.

We had a kale salad and shrimps with vegetables. Shrimps fine, vegetables a bit taste missing but generally ok. Salad was quite boring, some dressing or a little creativity would lift the feeling. Wine was a standard but espresso poor. I hope it was an exception today and wish you guys good luck in the future. Ales

Went for brunch and found the food to be decent. Breakfast food likely isn't their forte so probably best to stick with their Italian food. Chicken parm entree was tasty and portions were enough but you won't be leaving here with leftovers. The waiters were good, the waitress couldn't be bothered and seemed to want to do everything at her pace. Prices for brunch were very reasonable. Probably will return.

Was not planning on eating here but the place we were going to had no availability, so on the walk back we decided to go in glad we did. We were greeted warmly by the owner and promptly seated on a Saturday night at 6 pm. The service was exemplary. From the moment we sat down to the time we left we were never forgotten about. The food was ok not great but not terrible. The bread and olives on the table were so amazing my mouth is watering as I write this review. The prices were very reasonable. If and when I am back in the area I will be coming back. The restaurant was kind of cramped but it was still cozy. The owner was a very personable man who greeted all his patrons and checked back on them throughout their meal this place did everything right. Very satisfied.

We've been to Pomodoro many times, and it's always terrific. The service is friendly, the food is first-rate, and the noise level is pretty good for a Manhattan restaurant.

My spouse had the “fresh” spaghetti and meatballs which he felt simply was dry pasta, and pretty average of a dish. I tasted it and it seemed to be missing something that could have taken it to the next level. I had the gnocchi with pesto and chicken which was pretty good and satisfying. The bread they serve at the beginning with the olive oil and garlic was tasty and my fav item I ate.

We loved this restaurant! There was plenty of seating which can sometimes be tricky in the buildings in NYC. The murals on the walls were reminiscent of old Italy, but made for good backdrops for group pictures. It's on a main road in the UWS, close to the Beacon. The food was delicious. They gave large portions and the ingredients were select. I had a bow-tie pasta, wild salmon (not farm-raised), and veggies in a garlic butter sauce. Others at my table had a seafood combination that was thoroughly enjoyed as well as the large side salads. It is a bit pricey, but for a special meal, this fits the bill. Bon Apetit!

We were recommended to this restaurant by friends , and it was great ! It was a very cold night outside , but inside was warm , cosy , atmospheric, great waiters and gorgeous food ! True Italian experience and authentic menu . Loved it !!!

We had a great meal here and it was packed on a Saturday night. The service was good and the staff were very friendly. It's not fancy, if that's what you're looking for!

Continuing our quest for good authentic cuisine on the recommendation of a foodie friend we booked and met at Pomodoro Rosso. The food did not disappoint, and the pastas we tried were excellent. Wine by the glass was good, but the price was not - $16 is way over good value. Another gripe and a big one for us was the comfort level. Tables are miniscule and seating cramped. and then just as we thought it couldnt be any tighter, they bring in and set up another table right next to ours. Paying top dollar is a bit like paying to fly business or first class and finding they have over booked and do you mind taking the middle seat in economy

We decided to try this restaurant while in the city as we were craving Italian food. We were not disappointed. Food and service were good as was the atmosphere in this quaint local establishment. I will return when in the city again. Worth a visit!

This place was recommended to us so we had high expectations. All I can say is there didn’t seem to be any Italians serving and little knowledge of Italian food. The starter was a stuffed shrimp with crab in breadcrumbs with a tomato sauce. It was greasy (it tasted of old grease), over cooked and the shrimp was tasteless. The artichoke was ok once you removed the breadcrumbs and cheese. I had a filet mignon which was cooked fine (but that’s not difficult to achieve) but the asparagus was drowning in a horrible cheese sauce, the carrots were ok but the potatoes tasted awful, greasy and not nice. Having travelled extensively in Italy and had two ok Italian meals in New York, this was a big disappointment and the most expensive meal so far. I cannot recommend this place. How this place has such a high rating on trip adviser I find difficult to understand.

The minute we walked through we felt welcomed. We visited on a Tue night, it was busy but not crowded. We ordered salads and pasta dishes. The spaghetti & meatballs and the Carbonara was excellent. Their food was simple but done perfectly! The cappuccino was the best I ever had. I would like to know their secret. We will be back!!

On the whole the food at Pomodoro was good, but it had its shortcomings. All three of us at our table enjoyed the artichoke special appetizer. The eggplant parmigiana was rather heavy, but the eggplant appetizer dish served as a main course was more of a success. The swordfish special was very good, moist but fully cooked and served with good vegetables. Desserts were a problem and a disappointment as all at the table had set their sights on affogato and were told that the expresso machine was down (decaf coffee was also not available). Two at the table chose to have the ice cream with regular coffee, but weak coffee poured over a too small scoop of ice cream was an unsatisfactory dish. The place is simple and not too noisy. The service is pleasant and attentive. Hopefully things will be running better next time.

Went to the Museum of National History and then headed toward Columbus Ave and found this great restaurant to have dinner. Service was great and it was a great nite to eat out doors which was perfect.. Food was great, and the waiter explained all the specials too. Not rushed either and it was fairly crowded. Portions are large too...
Fantastic service and delcious pasta
We stopped by for a quick dinner without any reservation. The service could not have been better, all smiles, very attentive and efficient. We came with our 10-month old son and they quickly set up a high chair for him. We both had fresh pasta and found them delcious and filling. The pasta with shiitake, shrimp, crab and spinach was better then any I had in Rome last spring.
