Worst service I have ever had. When a complained the waiter called me a “mother f$&@“ manager did not do much. Sushi is average. Not the way to do a 10 year anniversary.

Across from the Lyric Theater where Harry Potter is currently previewing. Haru is awesome. We are at the sushi bar. Wasabi potato croquettes were awesome. Veggie salads fresh and plentiful. Hot wings and calamari salad were enjoyed by all. Sushi was delicious and highly recommended. Also- friendly service and clean bathrooms!

Excellent food and very quick service. attentive waitstaff who checked often that we had what we needed. Waitress made detailed suggestions after asking a few questions regarding what we liked! Dinner with two twelve year old boys - and they were happy and full - not an easy feat!

Years ago, we frequented the quiet, calm, zen-like Haru Sushi on Park Avenue South and were sad when that location closed. So, we were quite happy to stumble upon this location during our last visit. Unfortunately, this location is a brighter, louder, and noisier version that seemed to attract the after work, young corporate expense account crowd. The quality of the food is still very good, which is important when one is eating raw fish. We were quickly reminded how expensive Haru is for sushi compared with other places.

A good choice for lunch. Lots of sushi and other rice dishes to choose from. Very accommodating of gluten intolerance. Great service.

On 43rd street, off the South corner of Times Square. Very large selection of traditional and modern take sushi, sashimi and Asian fusion dishes. Pleasant ambiance, food came at variable speed, but was fresh and tasty. Large selection of sake. Winners were the lobster tacos and lobster spring rolls.

We came here Saturday before going to theatre. We ordered the Fantasy roll which is tempura shrimp with avocado and asparagus and the lobster roll. I asked for extra spicy mayo. They were delicious. We had a tough time deciding n desert, but ended up with 2 scoops of vanilla and 1 of green tea.

This huge restaurant in the heart of Times Square gets high marks for service, but be careful what you select from the menu. Gyoza are good, but the fish in my husband's Chiashi bowl looked awfully dead and tasteless. I had a decent if not spectacular soft shell crab roll. If you need a place to grab a bite before a Broadway show, this could be it -- but best bet is to order tidbits from the happy hour offerings.

This was simply outstanding. Top quality sushi and the appetisers were delicious. The service was very good and the place was cozy and comfortable.

Menu is extensive, many options have American “enhancements” compared to traditional Japanese sushi, but quality is good. Nice surroundings with some cool photos on the walls.

I've been coming here for years, generally before seeing a show. The location is great, and the sushi continues to be fresh and tasty. I do have to say, though, that recently it's gotten somewhat pricey. It's never been inexpensive--what good restaurant in midtown is?--but prices seem to have risen noticeably of late. Dinner with friends last night was nearly $200, and that's with 3/4 diners ordering one glass of wine, no dessert, and two of the diners ordering small plates.

Great food, good service! We’ve eaten here again and again! Brought our kids too and enjoyed many meals of excellence! From their delicious gyozas to shashimi and California roll all food is delicious! Shame they took off the menu the symphony! Please bring it back! We’d travel across the ocean just for that! Watch out for very busy times as the restaurant is small and can be extremely crowded! Totally recommend this place!

Fantastic Happy Hour. Saturday night. Large happy hour menu with $3 saki and $5 beer! Edeme for $3. Decent sushi selection. Was absolutely a fantastic and delicious meal. Place was packed with great ambience.

It seems like the waitress was no mood to serve. the food was very simple and very expensive. It was waste of money and time. Good one - the place is clean.

Sushi here is very good and service was also friendly and attentive. Only real downside is price, as Times Square rent is not cheap. Although not particularly inventive, the food is good, fresh and dependable. We had good miso soup, salmon poke (we thought it was a poke bowl but it wasn’t) which was plain salmon and edamame. Salmon and spicy salmon rolls were very good as was the eel. We very much enjoyed the Hells Kitchen roll, bit at $15, we could have had 2-3 regular rolls at other places. If you’re in the area and want sushi, this is a good choice, but there are other more creative and inventive sushi places in NYC.

Amateur Japanese preparation - the toro sashimi was frozen when served. The California hand roll was hollow. The chefs may be untrained may not even be Japanese. The waitress hurried our ordering process. No fun

Haru is one of those chain type of places having multiple locations throughout the city, but they have a solid list of choices and some very fresh sushi for the price. This is a good place for sushi lunch or a quick bite at the bar.

We have been to this Haru many times during our non-occasional visits to New York City. They have a Happy Hour that runs from 3 to 6 PM; the food items and the drinks on the Happy Hour menu are some of the same items from the main menu, just lower prices. We started with appetizers of Edamame and Cauliflower Tempura. After that we had a California Roll and a Haru Wasabi Roll (with brightly colored red and green roe on the outside). Hot Sake for one and a cold Sapporo for the other -- so tasty! We've enjoyed eating here even when it's not Happy Hour, but we had a show to catch (Lion King), so an early dinner was important. I'm not sure why the very few people who didn't like it here didn't like it. It's sushi; it's raw. It's DELICIOUS!!!

The restaurant personally surprised me, as the dishes reminded me greatly of authentic Japanese cuisine. The dishes are simple in ingredients yet of very high quality, as befits Japanese cuisine. The menu is rich, the service is courteous, and the staff is highly dedicated to their work. The owner has been there for over 20 years. An authentic culinary experience! Highly recommended.

We dined here for lunch. We all ordered lunch specials, the Poke bowls and bento boxes. All were good. We mentioned to our servers we had a show to catch in 90 minutes. They took our order promptly and our food came quickly. Our server recommended the brussel sprouts for an appetizer - and he was right! They were so tasty! Brussel sprouts! Seriously!

I would definitely recommend. We ate here before Harry Potter and it was very convenient as located just across the street from the Lyric Theatre. Beautiful food, great service…was tempted to visit a second time and only didn’t because there is so much choice in NYC.

RA was fantastic! The happy hour specials were great and they were so wonderful and accommodating to my daughter, who has food allergies! They checked everything was safe for her and took great precautions to make sure she was okay and enjoyed her meal. Quick meal, service was great and the ambience was also very cool. Our waitress even took a photo of us, and gave it to us in a special little paper frame. We will be back soon!

We have been there second time after one year. The foods still good. They have some new rolls - we took fire ball! Should be very hit but was ok. Also they have Madisson ave. Very tasty. Good place for meeting ftiends

Lemongrass Hot and Sour soup was the best I have ever had and I try it everywhere. All our rolls were great, staff were not particularly attentive.

We wanted a quick dinner before visiting the Harry potter play. We had a great experience at RA Sushi. The service was good and the happy hour sushi and avocado salmon sashimi options tasted really good as well! We would definitely go back!

All was good. Fresh, tasty. Looks great. Very nice service, good drinks. Nice atmosphere. Can give a recommendation.

The sushi was excellent and very creative, with unique flavors. The truffle asparagus was also delicious. The teriyaki salmon was slightly less impressive—the sauce was tasty, but the salmon itself was a bit underwhelming. The service was great, and the restaurant had a nice atmosphere overall.

Looking for reasonably priced sushi/sashimi Haru is a good option. You have lots of choices and can order them individually or in combination. The sushi/sashimi is fresh and tasty. Good for lunch before matinees or dinner before or after evening theater.

Being in the Times Square / Theater district, we were prepared for exorbitant prices. Surprisingly great value for good food.

We wanted a good sushi, and we found it. They have a good variety of specialty sushi. We were in NY for 6 days and, we went twice to this restaurant. Great service and food!

It gets crowded during warmer months like the spring and summer. Reservations are helpful midday and evening. The prices are midrange and not too high and the sushi is fair. Not the freshest or the best but fair. I got a salmon maki roll and shrimp tempura maki roll. My friend got the crunchy salmon roll and a spicy option. It was enough food but the cocktails were pricey. Standard for NYC, midtown, but up there. Not amazing either. It was good enough for a meet up and not loud.

A lovely restaurant with excellent food and excellent service. Even though it was fairly large, it wasn't noisy. Great place to have a romantic dinner. We had the crispy duck appetizer, the spring rolls, my husband had the hot and sour soup, which had fish and edamame and mushrooms in it--so delicious and I had miso soup which was wonderful! We also tried the brussel sprouts, cooked deliciously and we shared the Chilean sea bass cooked to perfection with julienned vegetables. The dinner was truly a gourmet delight.

Accommodating, cheerful, efficient and the food is FABULOUS! I stopped in about noon to make reservations for five o’clock that evening, in between parts one and two of harry potter, which is playing across the street at the lyric theatre. They were so anxious to help, even though they were fully booked, and took my reservation, saying they would find a spot for me. When i arrived at 4:55 that evening they seated me at a window table, took my order pronto, the food came fast and was excellent. I had cauliflower tempura and a wasabi tobikko salmon roll. Really good. Seaweed salad also delish, one of my favorite dishes. I plan to return next time i am in the theatre district, so i can spend a little more time there and explore more of their culinary options. Clean, too, and everyone was very friendly!

We enjoyed our pre-theater dinner at Haru. The food was good and they have some interesting cocktails! The service was hit or miss, several people seemed to all be attending to our table, some were great, others not so much. Could have just been a busy Friday night? We would definitely return and give them another shot regardless!

The sushi is unique so if you are not a big experimenter then they may not be for you. I didnt love the sushi myself it wasnt bad it just wasnt for me. The other food options however were delicious.

Food was good but service was awful. Part of meal came after we were through. Ask for water refill but never received. Waited to long to order and for bill to come. If you visit plan on waiting.

Tasty and refreshing noodle and vegetable salad, delicious duck with hoisin sauce and ginger-scallion pancakes, and lovely miso black cod with asparagus. Good beer and excellent fast service.

This place was packed when we got there. We had a prior reservation luckily. They have small servings of sushi, sashimi and others.Food was great and likewise service is great. Price is reasonable too.

Haru has been an old time favourite for over 15 years and remains consistently good, to this day. The restaurant is modern and simple, has plenty of seating, so even if you are asked to wait, it’s not for long. The menu is extensive, the sushi and other cooked foods are excellent and the service very good. The city is full of Japanese restaurants. Haru is one of the best.

We went there for dinner while strolling Time Square. The food was good but the sashimi was a bit pricy as it was per piece ( a very thin piece!).

Loved it - it is very good, we were there by chance during happy hour after going to Ellis Island. All the maki rolls were fresh and tasty, service very nice and not pushy. Definitely recommended

Service was very friendly, food was excellent. Nice place! Had a reservation and was seated immediately at 5 pm on a Saturday!

Service could use some help here. We were one of two tables and waited about ten minutes at lunch just to have our drink order taken. My youngest son ate his entire meal without a beverage becausethe waiter was missing. When we asked for a refill, we were told that there were no refills. We pointed out that the menu stated bottomless refills. Only then did our waiter agree that he wouldn't charge for a refill. I'm not sure if they were trying to scam us for another $20 in beverages or what, but this was very disappointing.

Everything was amazing! The service, the food! I’m a good critic and this beats Nobu and it’s very affordable! Loved the waiter Rafael he was impeccable and very attentive. Definitely revisiting this place

Staff could not have been nicer, from the front desk to the servers and bussers. Food was delicious, we enjoyed Madison Park roll, combination tuna and salmon poke, ahi tuna, mushroom and tofu and incredibly delicious crispy duck.

This place used to have amazing quality, service and always left me feeling like it was a wonderful meal and experience. Lately service has been lacking and staff no longer personable or friendly. The happy hour is a great selection but rolls were smaller and not as well prepared with a ton of rice on each and very little fish. Unfortunately I do not plan on returning and am very disappointed about that because the location is excellent and convenient.

The food here was fresh and delicious. Very crowded and somewhat pricey. Servers were very knowledgeable.

My friend and I had a delicious pre-theatre dinner at Haru Sushi. We shared the Fantasy roll and the lobster roll. Both were excellent and sufficient for dinner. We splurged and shared three scoops of ice cream (vanilla and green tea). Service was excellent and we had plenty of time to get to the theatre.

Delicious. Great atmosphere, service and quality of sushi. Everything was great. Worth it. Delicious miso, pork gyoza and specialty rolls. Staff super attentive and food fresh.

The is always a great spot for excellent sushi and attentive service. I never visit the city without stopping by for at least one meal here.

What a sushi experience! The quality is really high and every dish we ordered was really good. Service was ok and even the dessert was really good

Haru on 43rd street is hands down the best sushi restaurant I have ever been to in NYC! Its a must for all sushi lovers!

We loved this place. Lovely ambiance, excellent service, and the food was outstanding. I would definitely recommend this dining place to anyone who loves Japanese dining with a very creative touch.

It was a Christmas time so we waited for an hour for our food to arrive. We were offered cocktails as an apology for a long wait. Sushi and cocktails were amazing and delicious. Would go there again

Heading to an 8 o'clock broadway show? Then Haru will get you in and out without feeling the pressure of being rushed. The sushi options are numerous and the drinks perfect complements.

Visiting New York, looking for a nice place for sushi. We made reservations and were seated without delay. Appetizers of Edamame and rock Shrimp. The edamame were fresh and the batter on the shrimp was very light and complimentary to the shrimp. The shrimp were firm and flavorful. I ordered the Manhattan roll with soy paper substitution, my husband had the Hells Kitchen roll. The fish was very fresh and delicious. No need for any sauce and after the first bite where I had ginger and soy sauce, (my typical ha it) I could tell this was delicious without it. The roll was good size and plenty of food. My husband loved his roll as well. We split the mochie vanilla ice cream and left satisfied without feeling stuffed. Service was excellent, all staff were very polite and attentive, we never has to ask for anything. Plates were cleared, drinks refilled, check after we were done. I will be back and you should go.

Had lunch here with my grandsons & partner. One grandsons loves sushi & one not so much but ended up loving it. The bento box is reasonably priced & it’s a lot of food. Enjoyed the atmosphere away from the hustle & bustle of Times Square. Definitely will come here again... and YES the sushi was excellent!

Nothing to say about the food, boths sushi and sashimi were very fantastic but Cindy the waitress was so unplesant: not a single smile, eyes watching the floor or around every time, we felt not welcome and disturbing. Untolerable the fact that at the time of payment Cindy came back irritated because the tip was less than the suggested one. Management should teach her that tip is something not due even if a common practice but in US only so if there is a small tip or no tip at all, it's unpolite to approach the customer asking the reasons. She put me in an embarassing situation in front of one of my employees, I had to sign another ticket with increased tip to avoid arguing, no problem, I run a 2 million dollar business but sorry, my score is the worst: even if the food was excellent, it was a negative experience, first time in 31 years of trips in the US I am blamed for insufficient tip in such that way...

Our friends suggested this restaurant as we were in the city to see Wicked and they wanted to meet us for dinner. With 10 guests (4 adults and 6 kids ranging from 3-13), we tried an array of options. With a vegetarian on board and so many children, we loaded up on agedashi tofu, vegetable spring rolls, 2 orders of chicken satay, 2 orders of king crab dumplings, 2 orders of chicken gyoza, lobster tacos, chicken teriyaki bento box, vegetarian sushi, 2 orders of chirashi, and some basic rolls my older daughter requested (negi hama and maguro). My husband paid the bill and it was about $475 after adding tip and tax. That seems unusually high for a meal without alcohol and for which we ordered mostly appetizers. Still, it's the city, so I know it's more expensive due to its location. I'm of Asian descent and we regularly eat Japanese food, so I'm pretty picky when it comes to Asian food. I felt the food was decent, but I was surprised that it wasn't more "awe-inspiring." The chirashi was good but I didn't feel like the fish quality was outstanding. Service was good generally. Water glasses were refilled promptly, empty plates were removed, etc. Yet, the Asian waitress didn't know what negi hama was. I had to tell her Yellowtail with scallion. The fact that everything was in English should have made me realize this is not a restaurant catering to picky Asian Americans/Asians. Anyhow, it was still a decent meal in a convenient location mid-town. I wouldn't travel here just for the food, but if you're already here, it's acceptable.

Very good, good service and a lot of patience for the large group that we are. We tried sushi, cocktails, beers and sushi rolls.

Average quality sushi and ramen, similar to what you find in Italy at an "all can you eat" restaurant. Low prices for New York. Fast and professional service

We’ve been to over several sushi restaurants in the city so we thought we’d try something different and give this a try. This is one of our new favorite restaurants for sushi. Try the king crab dumplings!!!

we went there with friends, was great food, clean, nice service, best location. we loved the fire rolls but the soup wasn't fresh.

Order lunch special combo rolls and asked to substitute salmon avocado roll for unagi avocado roll and was charged extra $2.50 without being told. It was supposed to come with salad and server forgot until we mentioned it and was after we ate our lunch entree. The rice on the rolls was too mushy. I would try another place before returning here.

I came here to dine with my friends. One of them received a promo for her birthday. August is our birthday, so we agreed to meet here. The place is charming in the heart of Times Square. I read the reviews to make sure what to ask and order. We had a lovely waitress from Indonesia, Ellen. She was attentive and constantly checked on us to see that everything was all right. We shared a ceviche tacos appetizer that was pretty good. I ordered the hot chili shrimp garlic sauce that was very good too. I highly recommend this dish. Oh, btw we had shishito pepper too as our appetizer, of course. This is my new crush, so I have to get it when I see it on a menu. One of my friends ordered the same chili shrimp garlic sauce, and the other had sushi. Everyone’s happy with the meals. I would recommend the cooked food at this place. Friendly and spacious atmosphere. It has the Asian taste in it. Good job!

Went for a quick bite between the Harry Potter shows. Was with the kids, so ordered non-sushi items. The edamame was soggy, chicken teriyaki tasteless and sweet-and-sour soup had an odd taste. Had low expectations but was hoping for better.

We went here for dinner after a long day of touring NYC and it was a pleasant experience. We tried different options, including the Sashimi, the Eel Avocado, and the California Roll. The sushi was as expected and I also really enjoyed the flight of 4 sakes that I shared with my wife and a friend. Overall, the service was impeccable and I felt the food was underpriced for NYC, given the quality.

PROS Quality of food is good and also quantity is well balanced. Service is good and price is aligned. CONS Place is so so, but it’s COVID time and we could not have dinner inside. Not suggested with little kids. Good place to keep in mind in case you want Japanese in NYC.

Returning to this place after a long time and for the umpteenth time has changed management while remaining Japanese Too bad there is no sign of Japanese The food I would say anonymous and poor quality with high prices for what is offered Good service but always average Not Recommendation

The restaurant is lovely and the food was very good The service was attentive despite the restaurant being very busy Highly recommend

We have been to Haru every year for 15-18 years. We love it. This time we went for lunch ($20) and the fish was incredible. Our service sucked but we put up with it because the fish is soooo gooood! When you complain, they fix it. It is great. Please go, you will not be disappointed!

In town for business, the servers were attentive but got to my hotel and had horrible diarrhea. Still don’t feel right. Just disappointed. Prices were not horrible but expected more.

Time Square is so busy, and so many restaurants are a disappointment. I was so happy to find Haru right up 43rd street from the Westin hotel! The atmosphere is very nice. The staff were very professional. Our waiter cleared any items we were done using immediately from our table. Several different types of Sushi were ordered by my family, and they were all very good. I would definitely return!

We came here with our 13 year old daughter. The sushi was fresh and generously apportioned. They were very careful with special orders and allergies.

Edamame and spring roll appetizers were tasty. Miso soup was delicious. Hibachi was to be expected. Sushi was fresh. Hell’s Kitchen roll rated 7/10. Philadelphia roll 6/10. Salmon and avocado roll 6/10. Difficulty getting clarity on menu questions- look up info on your own.

We were looking for a good sushi place close to Times Square and we lucky to come a cross this sushi bar. I am not sure if this places was this good or we were so hungry but every sushi we tried did melt in our mouths.

We've gone here many times. Always great food, reasonably priced. Good for dinner or after theater. We'll be back I'm sure.

Horrible service. Food was ok. Had to go to bar for drink, plate, soy sauce, and fork. Service was so bad. Never going back!

I'd give it a 5 because the food is delicious and creative and our waiter a gem of a guy. The only thing that didn't happen is we and a couple arrived and there was no-one to greet us at the door, and I literally had to go into the restaurant and call someone to come and seat us. Not a train smash because the atmosphere is pretty relaxed and informal anyway. Ate the lobster taco on everyone's recommendation and it didn't disappoint. It pops with freshness, is pretty substantial in terms of filling and for a "small plate" you get a healthy portion of it. Lovely great flavors there. Crispy Duck and pancake - duck wasn't so crispy and a bit cold as was the beef yakitori also arrived cold. But they promptly heated it up and we were quite happy with the end result. Good flexibility in terms of all the changes we needed so overall a lovely dining experience. Thanks to our waiter who was just delightful and friendly and beautiful. I didn't get your name but you know who you are.

The food was excellent. we had a party of 5 with one in a wheelchair and there was an indoor ramp that enabled us to have no problem with seating. The staff was patient when we were late. Great location at midtown. Complied with COVID protocol requiring checking of vaccination card. Staff wore masks inside.

I ordered take-out. The breaded and fried Calamari was undercooked and light yellow in color. The same was true for the tempura sushi. The portions were small. The seaweed was tasty and the lobster, and shrimp tasted fresh. Way overpriced! Not worth the money. I paid $79 for 3 sushi rolls and 3 side orders.

the food was good and reasonably priced for happy hour. great spot for before 7pm curtain at the theater.

The sushi was no good. Chicken teriyaki was a lousy grilled peace of meat covered in a sweet sauce. That’s not how chicken teriyaki is supposed to be you Guys. The food was bad and the service was also bad.

Very average food. Very loud music. There are definitely better ones. The location is very good if you are on Broadway.

I really enjoyed dining here tonight. The various Sushi rolls I ordered were really good. The service was good. Their Sushi prices are low, especially for the high rent neighborhood they are in.

In the midst of Time Square’s craziness is this quiet oasis of a restaurant. The food is very good. We had Edamame, California roll, lobster tacos, garden salad with ginger dressing, and a seaweed salad with a miso type dressing. Everything was super tasty. I wish this restaurant was in my town; I would frequent it often.

We ate at this restaurant in between seeing Part One and Part Two of the Harry Potter show at Lyric theater. It is literally across the street, which was very convenient. The decor is modern and nice, and this is a larger restaurant for New York standards. The service was good. The sushi was tasty and the salmon teriyaki was delicious. The tables are really close together, which can be awkward when busy, but this happens a lot in New York. The prices are reasonable for New York standards. I would dine here again.

The service was not fabulous, wait staff seemed rushed and the sushi was ok. We went on a Wednesday after work, perhaps I'll try again on another night.

Took a "long cut" back to my hotel from the clients office just to see some different blocks and see what I could find. And a found a good Sushi place. It was 6:30 PM on a Tuesday night and I walked right in and had the sushi bar to myself although there were plenty of diners at the tables. The sushi was good and the price is reasonable for Manhattan. $4.50 for a piece of Maguro Tuna. $6.10 for a piece of Kani made with real crab leg not the crappy artificial crab made from fish colored to look like crab. Basic Tuna Roll $6.50 I ordered 2 Maguro sushi and 2 Kani sushi, a Tuna Roll and a bowl if Rice with some teriyaki sauce to pour over it for $1 Everything was good and I got out of there for $31 plus tip They have your standard teriyaki entrées (chicken, beef and salmon) as well as many specialty sushi rolls. They have a full bar and wine. And they take reservations if you want to insure you get a seat. I will absolutely be back

Sorry but this place would’ve been a rip-off if we actually stayed longer and ate. I understand it’s Times Square, but those prices were astronomical compared to better sushi places in the area. After sitting down we ordered a large sake and edamame and that’s it!!! $17.50 for edamame is outrageous. They do not have a big selection of nigiri and the rolls were way overpriced.

we were looking for a japanese restaurant & we found Haru on tripadvisor. we’re so happy we ate there. the place was neat & very clean including the restrooms. we started with the Miso Black Cod and Tuna Tataki along with the edamame. then we had the shrimp tempura maki, avocado maki, perfect fantasy roll, spicy tuna roll, crunchy spicy salmon and rainbow. everything was delicious. we finished our lovely meal with green tea, I liked the way it’s served. it was a great experience & we’ll definitely go there again soon to try other dishes on the menu..

We reserved a table for 4:45PM in order to make a 6PM doors-open at the Lyric Theatre across the street. We were promptly seated. Our waitstaff were excellent, with our orders taken efficiently, our drinks topped up regularly, and our food was brought out in a timely manner. There were only 3 or 4 other tables seated when we arrived, and was ~70% full by the time 6PM came around. The food was good - the gyoza and miso soup was typical fare, the agedashi tofu was not - no broth, just deep fried in a sweet sauce. The maki, udon and poke bowls were good.

Close late, perfect for a light late dinner after a theater play within a walking distance. Excellent food and superb attention

This was our first visit back to NYC since COVID lockdown more than 2 years ago. Our reservation was held because we were delayed in traffic We ordered wine and an alcoholic beverage. My wife always likes to have a glass of extra ice so it was requested when our drink order was placed. The food was good. Our thinly sliced tuna sop with avocado was marginal. The menu said sushi grade. However it was quite chewy! Poke bowl was excellent as was the miso soup. The tuna avocado roll and edamame were excellent. Bad!!! When the bill came we were charged for the glass of ice. In 73 years on this planet I’ve never been charged for ice. Haru. You should be ashamed of yourselves for charging for ice. The bill for the 2 of us with tip was. $80. Think carefully when you get over zealous with nitpicking your customers. Little things like this do not sit well.

went pre-theater matinee for a bite. Enjoyed a poke bowl and my spouse had a sushi lunch. Reasonable lunch prices for sushi in Manhattan. Good selection of sakes too!

Food was very good, but the most memorable aspect is how friendly and accommodating the staff were. We had a time crunch between the Lyceum theatre shows, so location was the reason for our decision to eat here. Seating before our entire party arrived - 'not a problem'; switching to a round table - 'let me check. Of course.'; accommodating drink and dinner menu - something for everyone. I also observed a woman arriving in a wheelchair - They handled her requested seating expeditiously despite the hectic pre-theatre hour. We were served quickly, and our food did not taste 'pre-prepared' as other reviews stated. Would definitely come again - mainly because of their kindness.

Upper scale restaurant. Arrive was very good and sushi was delicious! Little skimpy on the wine! Would definitely go back.

Haru was a convenient finding for us as it was right at our doorstep (we were staying at Marriott Marquis). We visited the restaurant during lunch time and we went for the sushi special lunch - that was 7 sushis and either California rolls or tuna maki. Both were delicious and it was exactly what we wanted. Tasty and fresh sushi. Price wise, at least during lunch time, it was fair.

The food was reasonably priced and the waitress was lovely. The only negative is that the rolls are too ricey for us. We prefer the proportion of inside stuff to be greater. Overall, good place to come if you want a restaurant in time square.

In NYC with the family and the kids love Japanese food so just around the corner from our hotel on 42nd street is Haru on 43rd. Normally, in my experience, a restaurant is either good or bad. This time it was great for some things and terrible for others. We were a walk in so getting a table was not a problem and that's a good start. We started with Miso soup and it was good. Then we tried the Crispy Calamari-normally a winner every time with our 6 year old. Not this time, a first, it should be renamed concrete calamari and once the kids had smashed off the coating the calamari was no where near the freshness you expect in a Japanese restaurant. We got a Sushi/Sashimi plate for 2 and that was excellent-can't fault it. However the most uneatable dish of the evening was the chicken Teriyaki. It was a dried up breast of chicken sliced and covered in a light brown viscous sauce which tasted nothing close to what you would expect. The bill was high so cannot even use the excuse we got what we paid for because it was the worst ever Teriyaki. So bad I couldn't get the kids to have more than one mouthful each and they are not always that fussy especially when they are as hungry as they were after a day at Coney Island on the beach. In summary great for fresh food but everything else was the worst of a lifetime so pick wisely.

Across from lyric theater- quick service if needed before a show. Friendly, attentive, amenable. Wide food selection. Innovative sushi. Highly recommend. Reasonable nyc prices

I’d set out on an excursion to a highly recommended taco bar for lunch but when I saw the long lines I thought better of that plan. Instead I popped into the sushi restaurant a few doors down and considered myself fortunate in my choice. Haru was busy with the lunchtime rush, but the hostess seated me at the sushi bar. The venue is tasteful and quiet with good service, and the tuna roll I ordered was well prepared. If I’m staying in midtown on future visits I’ll plan on returning.

Ate here twice in two days - yummy food, attentive staff, and pleasant atmosphere. the first visit I had a bento box, which was very generous. The second visit I had tempura, which was very good. I will also say that the salad with ginger dressing is great. Really enjoyed the food and the wine was good, they checked vaccine cards and temp at the door.

Phenomenal fresh food, accommodating and knowledgeable staff. Impeccable service. The bartender was friendly and served amazing cocktails. Excellent experience overall!

Family of 4 went to Harry before going into Lyric Theatre that is just opposite. The food is ok. Bento box set is a safe choice and price is acceptable. Service is ok considered the place is packed and there was a table or 2 waiting during our time. It was not a romantic place and definitely not for anniversary. It was perfect for a quick meal with some services and reasonable food before or after watching Harry Potter. The Roll was better than the Sushi which was better than the Sashimi. Hope you have got the idea.

Good basic Japanese with emphasis on sushi and sashimi, and a few other dishes like teriyaki. Clean and quick, with better than average (but not premier) quality sushi and good wine selection.

Decidely second rate sushi. Every piece I ordered was substandard. I guess they can survive on preying on the tourists who don't know any better. Extremely disappointing and a waste of money.

This place came highly recommended by the concierge at the hotel. It did not disappoint!! We arrived after 11pm on a Tuesday night. We were thinking it would be packed with after theater crowds but it was perfect. Got seated right away. We love sushi and our kids are starting to get into it. We were able to accommodate raw and cooked items, family style eating, with some new flavors. For rolls we ordered a Rainbow roll & the Hell's Kitchen roll. Rainbow roll was yummy and just as we expected. the Hell's Kitchen roll......... umm I want another one right now. The crispy salmon inside with the slight spicy on top with all the other goodness. This was hands down my favorite roll of all time. Overall the staff was very friendly, food was delicious, wish we were still on vacation so we could go back again. This place definitely has something that is unique to New York and not just another sushi place.

What a great surprise in finding Haru. Excellent sashimi and sushi - for a reasonable price. The sashimi platter had an excellent selection of very very fresh fish and for NYC was very reasonable at $36

I decided to walk here with it not being to far from my hotel..It’s definitely a hidden gem I walked it around 1 pm I’d say for lunch.I was greeted by the hostess she was very welcoming and smiled on first contact which is important .After she sat me about 3 minutes later my waiter came offered me water and got me set up.He also gave me a minute to check the menu out.I asked for a few suggestions and that he gave .I ordered One of sake drinks with guava as well as I tried a few others.I placed my order and waited. The food didn’t take to long to start coming to the table either.Every thing was delicious..The service was even better .I will return when I’m in New York again.

First time at a sushi restaurant, and was impressed by the food. The service was incredibly efficient, and the waiters were attentive to our demands.

We are a family of 4 decided to visit Times Square and eat sushi 🍣 We agreed that the sushi quality varies greatly from ⭐️⭐️⭐️ to ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ mostly ⭐️⭐️⭐️. The rack and roll really saved the sushi over all otherwise it was not that fresh . The crispy calamari was too crispy probably from frozen. The restaurant is a little loud with both the music and the acoustics in the building. Our waiter was really attentive and good surely made our experience better.

Delicious! The Week end Menu is absolutely perfect , very well served . The personnel is lovely and the DJ set is awesome. Thank you for this great moment

Just walking in I was amazed by the excellent atmosphere of the restaurant. From my experiences around Times Square, most establishments strive for "good enough ". RA Sushi has raised the bar. Our server, Nancy, was over the top...and the additional folks working with her were also at the top of their game. Our food arrived as expected and empty plates were removed promptly. All the sushi options we ordered were excellent. " melt in your mouth " was a common comment around our table. We felt welcomed from the minute we walked in the door. We will definitely return.

Haru is always dependable for a good lunch. Poke Bowls and Bento Boxes are really tasty. Sushi and Sushi Rolls are always terrific. Very efficient wait staff gets your order quickly. Can't go wrong with Haru.

A real pleasant place with very very good food in a fun atmosphere. This place understands when theater goers have to catch a show and they maintain a fast paced schedule. The food is really good on top of the amazing service. It must quiet down after 7:45 PM. Worth it.

The restaurant entrance is actually located a few doors down from 229 (it’s 221 if I remember correctly). Service was great and there were a couple of great tasting items on the menu that we tried. Overall, a good, clean place to have a quick bite before catching a show.

They serve maki rolls, sashimi... I had nice maki rolls with saki... The food is delicious... Excellent service... Very friendly staff... Cool atmosphere and setting... It is recommended

Amazing sushi - maybe best ever. Excellent service. Good value for money. Nice atmosphere. Loved it - highly recommended!

Leaving the theater on a cold winter's night, we had reserved a table around the corner at Haru Sushi and were not disappointed. Service was fast and professional throughout the meal even at this late hour. Food came quickly and everything about the meal was excellent. The tempura was perfectly cooked; the miso black cod a nice big portion; and the shishito peppers wonderful. The sushi was OK. The ikura really good; the uni a bit mashed up and not attractive and the avocado and unagi maki almost flavorless. But all was edible and tasty and everyone in the restaurant seemed to be enjoying their dinners too. The sakes are also excellent and served in bamboo bottles and nice pours for the price. I recommend this Japanese restaurant to anyone in the area and works perfectly for after theater noshing.

We had a terrific time! Good variety, happy with pricing, and the staff was grand!!! Lots of choices, well prepared…think HONEST ! Definitely recommend, you all…

As i mentioned in my initial review, i vowed to return, and since i was once again in the theatre district for a performance this weekend, I did just that. This time, both my specialty rolls —titanic and fantasy— and my friend’s chicken terriyaki, as well as the lobster tacos we split to begin, were served in a timely fashion, well presented, and were very tasty. Although the Titanic roll was billed as ‘spicy’ I did not find it so, which tells me that the next time...and there will be a next time...I can venture into more highly spiced territory. Our waiter was a gem! So helpful and cheerful, and made any special request seem like no trouble at all. The tip reflected this excellent service. I think Haru is now one of my destination restaurants in the city. Next time I am in NYC, show or not, in the area or not, I suspect I will find myself there, ready for another wonderful dining experience.

Outstanding food. Great service. Great location. Sushi is great but other surprising dishes such as Brussels Sprouts or tuna tataki.

Stopped in for a quick dinner on a Friday night. Sat at the Sushi bar with a friend. Place was packed as it always is. They have 4 -6 chefs preparing the food. Service was very good and the sushi dinner was excellent. I have eaten here before and highly recommend it

the lunch bento box is awesome- filling flavorful and value packed. the qulity of the carrot fritters and the freshness of the fish are terrific, between this place and The Ribbon around the corner on 44th street I actually have pre theatre choices

Picked this for pre-theatre dinner and was looking to have sushi..but we ate all small plates....all were very very good; the miso cod, the tuna poke, the wings, the ceviche and lobstor tacos....and delicious martini....will re-visit.

I had the luck to have Siri give us directions to RA Sushi, when we asked for a sushi restaurant in the Times Square area. What a treat, and what a find. Some of the best sushi I have had, and a nice chat with 'Kent', our server. He was very good at answering all our questions. The Wagyu sliders and Vegas roll were very tasty, and a real value. Wife loved her California roll. On our next trip to NYC from DC, we will know exactly where to go for good sushi. (8/1/2024)

Fantastic food, and not least excellent service. Very helpful in explaining what is special about Japanese gourmet sushi. Will be back 👍

We stopped in for an early dinner before a show. We cannot fault the food... we had the hot and sour soup, the ceviche tacos, crab dumplings, brussel sprouts, the Park Avenue Roll and the Dragon Roll. All were excellent. But the service sucked. We went several times with empty water glasses or a table full of dirty dishes. The waitress looked like I was asking her to do my taxes when I asked her to split the check. Jeeze. And for some reason, in a nearly empty restaurant they sat us with tables immediately to either side of us. Spread us out! Give us some room!

Food was inconsistent. Some dishes were very good, others were just ordinary, not justifying their price. Staff was rushed, and not very customer friendly.

Have eaten at this restaurant many times over the years and never been disappointed. The sushi and sashimi are always fresh, and the service is prompt and efficient (even if not the absolute friendliest). Happy-hour drink prices are very good, too. Tip: Great location for pre-theater dinner, but leave enough time -- this place gets busy. Also, it's worthwhile to make a reservation.

The meal and the environment were both good and nice, but there was a Chinese waitress who was so rude since the beginning that we almost lost the appetite. At the end of the dinner, the waitress brought us the bill without asking while we were eating our dessert and she even was forcing us to pay 15% of tips for the bad service. Though we gave her 10 dollars ( almost of her 15%), she refused to receive the tip and when we were leaving, she gave my mom a hard push on the leaving door. Then, my mom talked to the manager about it, and she even tried to discourse with us again :(. I feel bad for the owner of that restaurant because we didn't get a good first impression.

My wife and I stopped in for dinner before a show on broadway. The food was great. We had the Bara Chirashi, and the Gramercy Roll. However, The service was absolutely awful. The waitress took our order and basically disappeared. She was in the restaurant, but never once checked on us. It was not busy at all. Another waiter brought the food, and we had to wave the manager down to bring our check. I’m usually a very hefty tipper. However, if you take my order and disappear, you’re not getting a tip. After paying, the manager chased my wife to the door asking why we did not leave a tip. My wife told him the food was phenomenal, but our waitress was awful. He said “oh wow” then muttered something in another language, and walked away.

We found this place by searching by time square, we actually went twice. It’s very good quality. I think $5 per piece is expensive sashimi. The service was good and pretty quick. We had the lobster tacos, the gramercy roll and the gold roll and all were delicious. The handrolls were a bit plain, as opposed to other sushi places, they don’t add cucumber or avocado or anything. The rainbow roll was good and The edamames were fresh. Both times they were able to take us without a reservation.

I just walked in on a Tuesday night after taking in Times Square. I didn't have a reservation, but was seated at a table right away. Menu is extensive and includes a lot of variety for both sushi and other items. I ordered edamame, a specialty roll, and wine. The sushi was excellent. I was able to completely relax and enjoy my meal. Will definitely be back.

Family dinner here before the theatre. We arrived at 4:45 with a reservation and were promptly seated. Waitress was quick to come to our table and take drink/appetizer orders and those came relatively quickly. Unfortunately after she took our dinner orders was the last time we saw her before asking for our check. The restaurant was full and it appeared she was covering many tables. Our food was good, but not as we remembered it from lunch a couple years back, which was fantastic. We did not get drink or water refills throughout the meal and nobody was able to check on us during the diner. I’m hoping this was just an off night.

I was expecting good sushi in New York City, and that’s what I found at the RA Sushi Bar Restaurant in Time Square. Ingredients were premium grade and fresh—excellent texture, flavor, and presentation. Service was equally excellent—very fast and accurate. Price was comparable to other establishments in Time Square: that is, expensive, but what can you expect when even the street hotdogs are $12 a piece? The happy hour pricing was a good value with premium sake on the list. All-in-all, I thought my family and I received a good sushi meal and a very good experience from RA Sushi during our visit to Time Square.

Came in here for lunch before the theatre and were pleasantly surprised! The place is large, modern and very clean. Service was prompt and friendly. The sushi was outstanding- we ordered the Sushi For Two ($64) and couldn't finish it all. Tuna was beautiful and salmon was very fresh. The whole meal was a bit spendy - $150 lunch for 3 - but a great way to start a theater experience!

Went for lunch and had a delicious meal. I had the chicken teriyaki bento box. Their sushi was very yummy. I recommend having the cheesecake bites for dessert but I suggest asking for extra raspberry dipping sauce.

Placed an order with a friendly young woman who was knowledgeable and helpful. Didn't have a menu so she was able to help steer in placing the order. Ordered the Lemongrass hot and sour soup which came with shrimp and scallops. It was just what I wanted. Also ordered something simple, chicken teriyaki, which came with steamed vegetables and white rice. It was good and the vegetables were steamed just right. The delivery didn't take long either, which was a plus since we didn't want to step out of the hotel and get something to eat. Next time we will go and visit the actual restaurant to try the sushi.

It was a repeat visit from two weeks earlier. I asked ahead for a specific table, and it was there despite a well-patronized time. The server remembered us and our order! Food was good. Ambience good - not too noisy. And of course location before theatre is ideal. Ok, this visit was the best; others were good but not 5-stars.

Little bit expensive. Overall good food. Unfortunately we had this one rude unkind waitress. At the end, she was only interested about tip. If you don’t like your job, then don’t do it...

Wow, it was so good to be back in this old hang out after it moved from the old Midtown location on the East side close to the office to W43rd years ago. My colleagues ordered the all time favorite lychee martini while I had warm sake. For appetizers, we shared edamame and a noodle salad. For main course, I enjoyed a chirashi bowl while the others had the Chilean Sea bass and the sashimi and sushi entrees. Needless to say, a wonderful time was had by all. We were so full, we didn’t need desserts. But we had more martinis.

Nice place to have a dinner with family. We were lucky to have a seat without waiting on Friday Night. Our order is delicious. We finished all. Nice atmosphere here!

nice clean place. the food is basic. we had sushi for dinner which was average. the hot dishes were reasonable too.

Very good food with very good service. Comfortable seating with views of people passing by. The sushi rolls were different from our local sushi restaurant so that was a treat. We would go back.

I go out for Japanese often. My friends suggested we try Haru one night. They are much more familiar with Japanese food than I am so what we ate in some cases was different from my usual. It was absolutely outstanding. Even the drinks were good. We ordered something called a Sushini. Sochi, Plum wine and vodka with spears of cucumber. The drink is really good. The prices are a bit higher than other places, but I would say it is well worth it!

After a lot of walking from Penn Station to Times Square and back, I choose an area favorite. Among sushi restaurants in Manhattan, this one counts as tied for my favorite. The setting is dressier than others; you'll be comfortable if you're going to the Lyric Theatre with "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" My notes are lacking but I chose something allowing for a variety of the fine fish that they use. I started with miso and continued with a Kirin beer and the sushi. I was not disappointed. Service was friendly and efficient. My appetite was satisfied and I was comfortable here. I highly recommend it.

Had a wide selection of sushi. It was all delicious. Waitress was nice and very attentive. Prices were very reasonable for New York City.

Great selections, great drinks, nice after work and lunch crowd. I always look forward to having either lunch/dinner here. The prices are good for this area.

We were looking for a good sushi place in the Times Square area...not easy. We found Haru and were not disappointed. There are a lot of sushi options as well as non-sushi options at this place.

Excellent prices and food to match The wAit staff was extremely efficient and food was served at lightening speed. A must do.

Haru is reliable good, but a bit pricey, food near Times Square. The unusual sushi rolls are good, as is the sushi sashimi platter. Tempura lunch was also good. Too expensive for everyday lunch. But on occasion it’s fine.

SUMMARY It's not bad - but clearly below world average - it's like the sushi you get in a (Swiss) supermarket or from a cheap Sushi chain in London - fresh but ugly (as it wasn't prepared by a real Japanese sushi chef) - food is not very tasty - quality seems fine CONCLUSION for the American reader: it's the worst place but f*** it, there's no real alternative in this city that doesn't cost a fortune for the English reader: it's rather disappointing but hey that's America! for the Swiss reader: nothing exceptional (not the level of Sushi you would expect in CH)

We had late lunch, service was very quick. We order Sushi rolls, they were very good, we also had chicken skewers which were tasty as well as calamari. It was a bit expensive for lunch.

The sushi and the service were excellent. Some of the rolls come with gold leaves. Prices were very fair for very good sushi.

Extensive menu of delicious fresh sushi. The 5 of us all really enjoyed what we chose. Friendly service and pleasant atmosphere.

Came for a late dinner and was surprised how good it was. Seared tuna appetizer was amazing and sushi and rolls were solid. Nice atmosphere and friendly service made for a great experience.

Got a recommendation from our Concierge at the Marriott as we were pressed for time as attending 8pm show. Service was quick and liked that they had some options for Sushi and Sashimi but not cheap $75. Food came out in 15 min and ate quick. Quality was great but docking one star cause seemed on expensive side. It’s NYC so it is what it is and if you’re in a hurry go to this place!!!

Had dinner at HARU with friends who live in the neighborhood. I didn't expect much, having been disappointed once to often when eating in The Bagel. This time I was nicely surprised. This place is pretty small, and maneuvering through the maze of tables requires Cirque du Soleil agility so as not to disturb the other patrons. Watching the staff wade through the maze with arms full of dishes is a treat. The Sushi - we all had Sushi - was fresh, well prepared and nicely presented. The alcohol offerings did not seem extensive, but as we were all Sake drinkers, that was not an issue. Now for the best part: 4 of us, all ordering Sushi and Sake, drew a bill of under $110. I have never experienced, nor did I think it was possible to generate a bill that small, even when it was just my SO and myself. To be completely candid, we did get there early enough to take advantage of the very end of the Happy Hour discounts, which has a very limited menu, but great pricing, and we were still ordering from the main menu after HH had passed. Nice place, definitely worth a visit, but make a reservation first if you are planing on eating later in the evening, or are going to be more than a table for 2.

This place is a safe bet: Good location, nice layout and spacing of tables, friendly service, decent food. Everything is ok and well but the food is nice and fresh, but there is better. The taste of the miso soup was always a little flat, the eel rolls had little eel, the fish choice for sushi was always very limited but the mochi desserts were very good.

Not the most friendly service but efficient and solid food for pre theater dinner. Most TS restaurants are touristy, over priced and not great. Being from NYC Haru is our go to place for TS dinning.

In NYC for one night only and went here for dinner before seeing a show. Good drinks, good sushi, wide variety of menu items.

We enjoyed quick but unmemorable service. The sushi was good as was dessert. I will probably return as it is close to several theaters and Times Square. It was not crowded.
Great sushi!
We really enjoyed our dinner out here. The sushi was very good and so was the veggie tempura. A great date place before a show.
