Very atentious staff

Very atentious staff. Excelent somm, wine list and overall service. Pretty good food. Nice ambience and location.

Valentine hit!

By Alain L |

Lovely dinner on a special occasion; A little more pricey than expected, but hey , anything for your valentine! And the quality of the food was excellent. Best was the sea bass, than the squid first course and the main course of duck and foie gras. Dessert was good and the wine excellent. Service was good from the whole team. Overall a great dinner. I will have to go back for the sweetbread since it was not on the menu that day.

Wickedly fun wines here

By Joannasable |

The vibe at Racine’s is cool. I love the space and the bar is super fun. I really like funky, weird wines and the bartender was very willing to share his favourites and allow me to try a few before picking. We had a few dishes and they were tasty. I like that the food works nicely with most of the wines which is never easy. Please excuse my both crappy and limited photos as there wasn’t much light. Please follow @joannasable on instagram for more food and travel fun.

Not normally my cup of tea but very enjoyable

By Mike C |

I have eaten here twice while visiting a vendor on business. In all honesty my taste in foods needs expanding and I am a rather finicky diner. Having said that I have really enjoyed my meals. The cuisine is rather southern France (think Mediterranean) as I have been told. This is a great experience in dining. The atmosphere is rather casual and intimate. It's not a big place but seating is well spaced and would be a nice place for a romantic dinner. The service is very good and feels rather personal. The beer selection (sorry no wine for me) is limited but you do you have some good French beers as well as Founders All Day IPA which is a go to beer for me. Both times I have had steak. Again, my preferred meal if I'm not sure about what I am having. This last time it was Wagyu Beef that was simply wonderful. The desert menu is very tempting as well. I had the chocolate tart which was delightful.

Amazing Food, Amazing Wine

By Red House Project/Julie |

Don't know how Racines skipped my foodie radar but a visit this past weekend made me want to return again and again. Lovely tasting menu and a wine list with so many interesting varietals it was difficult to choose! Luckily had great help from the Somm! Loved the squid with fennel , the cod with intense tomato topping and the outrageously delicious fried Gorgonzola "ball" that graced the steak. Thank u!!

Amazing

We organised a dinner to catch up with friends and this place was recommended and the restaurant took our booking without forcing us to do a degustation menu for the table.. we you get there the place doesn't look very nice, but as soon as you walk in is very nice! But the most important part as always is the food, what an amazing surprise food was spectacular every body left super happy with the food and the service was as good as everything! Amazing in every way....

I wish there were six circles - beyond excellent

We tried to make reservations at another restaurant but it couldn't accommodate us. Lucky us! The evening and meal couldn't have been better. Four of us went here for dinner. The restaurant seated us promptly. We were at a table near the kitchen, where we could watch some of the action. There is a bar as you enter and you may eat there if you choose. It is more a wine bar but they do offer cocktails. We decided we would have the tasting menu and ordered the wine to accompany the meal. Wine is served in half portions so it worked out just right for us. The meal started with the mushroom soup. It was excellently smooth and flavorful. The next course was snails with lentils. Then, tuna crudo with beets and hazelnuts followed by sweetbreads, with sunchokes, leeks and macadamia nuts. Our dessert was panna cotta with bay leaf and sorbet. Now if these don't sound good I understand. But trust me, everything was delicious and well balanced. Every dish was perfection. The wine selections also were just perfect. They were not very busy and we couldn't understand why people weren't filling this place. Do not hesitate to give them a try. The atmosphere is very good because it wasn't crowed the noise level was low. Also, even though we were near the kitchen it was quiet. We were able to have a good table conversation through out our meal. A bread basket was served and kept filled. Service was outstanding and attentive. At one point, with dessert, our wine was a bit slow arriving but we were fine. The sommelier was attending to another table and I could see he was busy.

Michelin star experience in a relaxed setting

By Mimi |

We went there with 5 friends last July and had the opportunity to taste the entire menu. Everything was exquisite even the things that didn't seem appetizing in the menu like the steamed egg, which came rapped up in ravioli in an almond type soup. The only non impressive dish we had was the seared tuna but I guess it is a good choice for the less adventurous types. The wine list was exquisite and the staff very friendly, relaxed and accommodating. Definitely a great place to dine for those that appreciate amazing food but are less fond of loud spaces on steroids.

Great food makes this more than a go-to place for wine

By si101503 |

Super sophisticated and not unreasonably priced wine list, with focus on smaller, off-the -beaten track and organic growers, but the food now does not take second place, nor the very professional wine and food service. Loved the sweetbreads and desserts in particular, but nothing less than very good.

Very high quality

By pocmonster |

I had the octopus to start, a lobster and squid ink spaghettini main dish, and a tropical fruit dessert to end. Plus a glass of wine, and everything was exquisite. Flavor and execution were both on point. The dessert was unlike anything I have ever had, with fresh pineapple, lemon sorbet granita, and a super airy coconut cream on top. Unbelievably delicious and memorable. I could have had more. I actually thought it was a good deal given the quality. I loved it!

I have never seen so many people clean so many plates.

By le5691 |

There were six of us (including a small child) and we ordered almost everything on the menu. One of us ordered the filet mignon and it was so good we ordered and extra one for the table. We were told it would be 35 minutes to prepare and it was worth waiting for.

Amazing Small Plates Option

New to neighborhood, stopped by Racines. Staff was warm and friendly. I love duck and just had the best duck at Racines. Matt behind the bar gave the best reconmmadations for wine pairing.

A lonely outpost of France worth the effort of finding

By GbsLondon |

Visited on a wet October evening the locale is quite dark, a little dingy and the restaurant shop-front is very plain and sits comfortably and unremarkably with its neighbours. Inside it is well lit and the first impression is maybe a cafe in a small mid-west town. A large open bar midway down the room divides the area into a drinking and maybe bar-snack area at the door and the restaurant proper beyond, with an open kitchen at the far end. Racines is about food and cooking. Here, it shines and presents a French experience worth the effort of getting down almost to the tip of Manhattan. The menu is short. My starter of steamed eggs with a parmesan foam was a modest creation but my main course was a risotto based on rolled pasta rather than Italian rice prepared to a Sicillian recipe that was sensational. The wine list is proudly French but when I am in the US I like to drink US wines and our first bottle was a Zinfandell from old vines, Paso Robles 1998. Zinfandell got itself a bad name amongst serious wine drinkers but this was something different. It was not cheap but a revelation. Our second bottle was a 2013 Californian Pinot Noir that came a rather poor second.

Popular but puzzling given the value

By njcycle |

Hole in the wall location, but a lovely bare brick and wood space. Adventurous menu but too focused on recycling similar ingredients. This night it was creme fraiche. Nice to see so many bio/natural wines, but the glass list lacks distinction. Service slows as place fills. Be aware that the “starters” are also the “sides.” Snapper drew a rave as did the chocolate dessert. Duck will remind you of so many others. Did I mention pricey?

Fabulous

Read a review in the NY Times and thought we'd check it out. Glad we did! Food was amazing as was the wine list. The sommelier was most helpful and gave spot on recommendations. Will definitely return.

French Food with Wonderful Service!!!!!’

By Mary M |

Saw a documentary on Netflix talking about this gem. Since we come to New York City annually, we love trying new restaurants. We were early since we were staying at Time Square. The staff warmly welcomed us and immediately seated us at our table, explaining that the restaurant would open at six. We ordered drinks and appetizer and perused the menu. The waiter was friendly and gave us a review of each item on the dinner menu with great detail on how the chef would present. The scallop appetizer was to die for with the presentation exactly as was described by our server. My steak was perfectly prepared, as was the pork that my husband had! Our dinner was delicious!!!! Highly recommend.

Palatable and great service

By Mary W |

Every dish was a combination of so many flavors that were all complimentary. No dish was simple. Each dish was so palatable. The server's knowledge and enthusiasm of the various wines that were paired with every dish was admirable. I could taste the wine just by his description. We sat at the counter and watched them prepare our meals. The team work so well together. We truly enjoyed our meal, and we were mesmerized as we watched the kitchen staff put together our meals.

2 NYT Stars I'd give it 2 Michelin Stars

By Peakclimber46 |

Chamber street may be a bit out of the way but still easy and worth it to haul a few extra stations on the Subway. You feel transported to a Paris bistro without the jet-lag. Great wine list with predominantly small producers and a sommelier who knows his wines. The menu small but delicious, check the Peter Wells review in the NYT. We had a lovely and absolutely unhurried dinner at a table for 4. The bar behind us was bustling with a crowd enjoying wine and some small bites, a nice lively atmosphere yet quiet enough to have a conversation. We'll be back for the food, wine and our "mini trip" to Paris.

French food is back in NY

By rddevita |

Years back, perhaps decades back, there was an abundance of French restaurants, today, it is Italian. That draught is now over. Racines NY rocks – monthly menu changing with fresh ingredients. Simple, not complex menu, at first was a detriment, which turned into a plus when our dishes arrived – started with squid with small (soft, not traditional) potato gnocchi in complex bouillabaisse soup, and fresh white asparagus with excellent hollandaise sauce, then moved onto perfect red snapper with razor clams and fennel, and lamb with fava beans and salsa verde. Dessert of chocolate & caramel tart/ cake fantastic. Varied wine list, and terrific service. All terrific, each mouthful. Worth the visit, even if on Chambers Street. Tip – if you like that sort of thing, there is chef tasting menu, and a chef counter where you can watch the chef/ sues chef working.

Fabulous food AND wonderful wine!

By Lisa S F |

We celebrated my husband's birthday here last night--first time indoors since pandemic--and the evening was spectacular. The food is several notches above our pre-covid visit and Diego the chef is thoughtful, creative and very talented! Amazingly delicious appetizers: hiramasa (tartare fish), pomegranate seeds and romanesco broccoli tasted bright and light, sweet and tart; dragon carrots (black outside, multicolor within) with roasted almond-romesco sauce simply delectable; for mains my husband had roasted steelhead trout filet with raw and roasted radish, and I was served an entire roasted duck breast with bitter greens and fabulous white sweet potatoes. The WINE LIST, managed by the extraordinary and gracious sommelier Pascaline , is so very unusual and deep, and we savored every sip. Please go to support this small restaurant~soon!

A Geeky wine lover's gem!!!

By RobertChris |

The wine list is a true labor of love, kudos to the owners! Imagine a list that is unique, varied, affordable, with many offerings that are actually mature, read to drink. Imagine a wine list that is sparked by pure creativity, offering something very few restaurants offer, this is it. I had a Loire Valley Cabernet Franc de Pied, which means a vineyard that somehow survived the mid-1800s phylloxera plague. I love this stuff, seek it out, never seen it on a menu, and this place had several mature offerings! I was giggling. And the Owner/Sommelier was giddy in describing the wine to me. The food complements the wine. A small but distinctive menu, very well crafted plates with a nice aesthetic. The cheese selections are solid. Service on point. Hostess could be more accommodating, but once I saw the wine list, all was forgiven. I will be back. Highly recommend.

try to be glamorous French - but food is just OK and very very small portions

By nyfoodie2000 |

From a distance looks nice. Booked it for two - nice NY evening. Good location nice seating all looks promising. Than the food comes. Expensive tiny. There is no way anyone can not be hungry after 3 course dinners there. Expensive and not so good. Bottom line go elsewhere

Very French

Well prepared creative French food. The wines from next door Chambers Street wines are excellent. Staff is friendly and knowledgable.

French food with interesting flavours

By MN J |

Came here on business and we all had the taster menu; a menu that shows off their range of dishes. It was suitable for a large group. The flavours were very interesting but nothing was sublime. The service was impeccable however. There were about 4 waiters serving our group of 6 so we were well looked after. If you want to try something different, in a nice ambience with perfect service, this is the place.

Excellent

By Max D |

Forget Frenchette, I’ll be coming here again. Came in around opening hours and not busy at all but quite nice for me as there is plenty of room at the bar though I wasn’t able to snag that corner area. It’s quite contemporary ambiance here but anything but the elbow over elbow room at Frenchette. Come 7ish and still half empty here, go figure. Only downside at the bar is no foot rest but at least there is back rest. I was going to try their chicken as I imagine it quite good here but their tasting menu looks great so opted for that instead. The steak tartare is the best I ever tasted. The scallops and sea urchin worthy as if it was from a high-end Omakase. However, the star is the seared foie gras. I haven’t had such a dish cooked to perfection since a visit to a 5-star restaurant in Providence, RI. There were some misses. The filet is not as tender as I would like it. The dessert while different did not work for me. The service is impeccable and first rate as with the beer selection though I was not able to get my first and second choices of beer. I will forgive some of the mistakes, I’m though still puzzled at why it’s not more crowded here. One reason could be the location. While it’s convenient for me, the street is mostly occupied by cheap bars and discount retail so not a usual spot for a fine French Bistro. In any case, good for me since I’ll be coming back without fear of wait time or lack of elbow room.

Amazing dining experience

By boulette666 |

We had dinner at Racines yesterday and the experience was even better than expected from the excellent reviews recently published, including a 2 stars review in the NY Times! Everything was more than perfect, the wine of course, chosen to match our tastes and our food by Racines' co-owner himself (don't expect your average cabernet-sauvignon here!), a respected and dedicated sommelier, but also the food, ingredients were super fresh and prepared to perfection. The menu is changing regularly with seasons as well as market availabilities in order to ensure freshness. We had everything from starters (the steamed egg is a true wonder) to dessert, do not pass on the chocolate and caramel tart... One piece of advice, book in advance and prepare yourself for a treat.

Interesting and Delicious

By darylqu |

Superbly prepared delicious food, an attentive and extremely professional staff, French sensibility in New York. Dinner began with an amuse bouche of a lovely, deeply flavored, velvety mushroom soup. The two of us then shared four starters and two mains and were just delighted by the food. Appetizers, served two by two, included prawns tartare in broth, salmon, the smoked ricotta agnolotti, and escargots. All were delicious. The dish that impressed us most was the crispy sweetbreads we had as a main course. It was crunchy, creamy and caused my husband to finally understand why I've always raved about how good sweetbreads can actually be. All the dishes had that European delicacy of flavor - or close to it - that is so hard to find on this side of the pond. Rather than a variety of glasses of white and red wines we paired it all with a single bottle of a Loire red which matched well with the entire meal. We finished with glasses of Madeira - yum. Not cheap by any means but lovely. Racines has two spots in Paris and this lonely outpost in NY. My only criticism is that dishes flew by at a NY pace rather than a slow European one - but then, this is NY.

Hit.....or Miss

By Victor S |

Nice atmosphere and obliging service. There are some terrific dishes like the steamed egg with chanterelles and the lamb shoulder, however there are some dishes, like the tasteless lobster ($19), that leave you scratching your head. Overall a very mixed bag and a lot of money. Hard to highly recommend. $55/person without wine.

Paris in New York

By Nefelokokigia |

I love this place; it is like no other in New York. Feels like a grungy neighborhood in Paris with wonderful, undiscovered cooking. The reception is warm and accommodating. The vibe is exciting. The room is spare, but tasteful. The service is exuberant, friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. The food consistently delicious, clever, interesting. The wine program is arguably the best of its size, which is moderate, but deep and broad, with the most outstanding producers in France. A huge Champagne selection, mostly growers. The sommelier is completely on top of his game; trust him.

Special weekend in the City

By Nancy M |

We had been to Racines 2 years ago for my sister's birthday and took and her husband again for their 40th anniversary. My son had recommended we go while Chef Liebrandt was still there as he has had several meals prepared by him in the past. The menu is very eclectic and needs explanations for everything as the menu is vague on details. Our waitperson, Vera was sometimes good at the explaining but not always detailed or knowledgeable. The appetizers and desserts were the best parts of the dinner. The red pumpkin with gnocchi was outstanding as was the foie gras chantilly. The entrees were somewhat disappointing to all of us. The Wagu beef and pears was interesting but had strange black paste on the plate that tasted like cigarette ash. Vera said it was a black olive puree. None of us could taste olive and it was left on the plate. Another dish was Pork Iberico with Cockles and a strange seafood lasagna. It was a very nice, meaty piece of pork belly with manilla clams on it and an apple mustard sauce. The clams and pork were a very weird combination and the side of lasagna very filling. Another dish at our table was the Blanquette of Matsutake. It was a very small bowl of pasta with a white wine sauce and mushrooms. It was more like a small side dish than an entree. The most filling was the pork belly dish. For dessert we ordered the the white chocolate and the Battenkill dairy Creme. Bothe were delicious but also required a description. The Sommelier was wonderful and the wine selections fabulous! Vera could be testy at times and very nice other times. The prices were not bad for NYC.

Great Atmoshpere

By shannyn s |

Amazing little restaurant!!! If you are looking for unique combinations of food this is your place. Wine list extensive! Food is very simple with scrumptious flavors. Kudos to Sean our waiter who was so knowledgeable and professional. He is what every waiter should strive to be!! Just a fabulous experience all around.

Excellent wine bar with great food !

By SaprissAmericano |

Really nice spot for quality wines and excellent french food. Outstanding service. Very good happy hour wines and appetizers. Great ambiance. Well worth it.

Stands out above the mediocrity

By Balebusta |

What a treat...people who care about the food they cook and serve. After being swamped by quantity over our few days in NYC, we were wooed by quality. The red snapper was cooked to perfection...moist but wonderfully crispy skin. Likewise, the duck was rare and came with a crispy skin that could not have been bettered. No mean accomplishment. The wine list was enormous, but we were helped along by the attentive staff and their selection was lovely. Have not even mentioned the amuse bouche, appetisers and desserts. All cooked with thought and precision ......this could not but rub off on the eating thereof. Not unexpectedly, the menu was short. It would be difficult to conceive of this level of care had the menu been longer. And the winners were undoubtedly us, the consumers.

5 Course Chef's Dinner, Wonderful

By Randy L |

Brutally cold, snowy night in New York City and we were looking for one of New York's hidden gems for a nice warm dinner. To our surprise, Racine's offers a 5 course chef dinner that was out of this world. One or two items on the menu weren't exactly to our liking so the owner/chef worked with us and deliciously surprised us. Staff is well trained and the ambiance was just what we were looking for. Looking forward to another visit in the near future.

Superbe

By CosmopolitanHal |

This is the most outstanding restaurant in New York City at the moment. The food is astoundingly creative without being fancy. A short menu -- always a good sign -- of direct and powerful flavor combinations. The wine list is wonderfully eclectic, delicious, and reasonably priced and clearly the labor of love of Arnaud Tronche, one of the founders of Racines, who seeks out small vignerons and has a hands-on knowledge of the regions, the parcels, and the winemakers. The ambience is comfortable exposed brick, low lighted, industrial rustic, with the kitchen in plain sight and a "chef's table" counter which I will seek out next time. The restaurant is full and energetic, but the noise level is very comfortable and intimate. Serves only dinner. Go.

Absolutely fantastic

By Maxime M |

You will indulge yourself by going to Racines. This is an absolutely fantastic place where your palate will be wonderfully treated from start to finish. Racines displays a relatively short yet very ambitious menu; the main issue you will be dealing with is to make a choice since every single item on the list is a temptation. Saying that starters, main courses and desserts are delicious is just a strong understatement. Special credits to...everyone at Racines - a New York city gem that should not stay hidden any longer!

Gastronomic diner

By Sophie L |

Having great evening in a quiet place with candles. Amazing wine's book from France and all around the world. Delicious meal with a french cooker. Arnaud and Thomas are perfect. Nice staff.

What a find!!!!

By Marinela2011 |

If you are a foodie, Racines is a must! We've been here twice. The first time we had the chef's tasting menu. Each dish seemed to be better and better! We loved it so much that we made reservations for the chef's table by the kitchen. The wine list is excellent! The staff, superb and so friendly! Our second dinner we ordered the tasting menu. How could we not? An excellent way to sample the incredible creations by a culinary genius! LOVE LOVE LOVE! Recommending the restaurant to everyone I know!

Amazing Tasting Menu by Chef Paul Liebrandt, 5 stars!

By RGSOUNDF |

We visited Racines for 2 main reasons, the summer residency of the famed Chef Paul Liebrandt, the 'enfant terrible' of the NYC dining scene of the 2000s, and the rising star of the NYC sommelier world, Pascaline Lepeltier. The latter was still on her summer vacation, thus not much luck with our wine pairing (of 6 wine offerings, 2 were from Georgia, not our cup of tea) but the Chef Tasting Menu was totally amazing. 5 courses for $90 is a steal for the unique artistic culinary style of Chef Liebrandt. For a $25 supplement we also opted for an extra course of Wagyu beef (while it was being savored by me, my wife ordered a custom made cheese platter, an excellent choice, not on the menu), probably the best Wagyu beef we ever had, with the notable exclusion of Elements in Princeton, NJ. Almost every dish was amazing, so thoughtfully designed and built, surprising by their splash of unique aromas and rich 'eblouissement' of ingredients. Dynamite Taste Black Truffle Lobster Paris-Brest was a true chef d'oeuvre of gastronomy and so was the summer squab. We won't dwell on particular dishes, for beauty is in the eye of beholder, besides, Chef Liebrandt constantly renews and changes the menu, but be assured that our entire dinner experience was a veritable foodie paradise. The service is very good, efficient, polite, authentically French. The overall ambiance is rather informal, reminiscent of Paris more modern bistros in, say, 10th or 11th arrondissements. 2 tables by the window, facing Chambers St, provide for more privacy and unobstructed dining experience, without unwanted elbow-rubbing with the nearby tables. All-in-all, 5 stars. We will definitely come again, for another great experience.

Great wine, terrible food

By Lina B |

Coming in with high expectations of both wine and food we were surprised of the low level of the food. We both had the set menu of five dishes which were all disappointing. The wine list was great and so was the service, but would never recomend anyone to go here for the food. Way too expensive for the quality of the food.

A gem

By MJMH |

NYC needs restaurants like this - places where high-quality, authentic French food is prepared well and without the sky-high prices normally associated with "fine dining". I'm not suggesting the prices are low; they're not. $35 for an entree is typical here, but the quality on offer far exceeds what's served in many more expensive places. The staff are delightful: knowledgeable, discreet and professional. I had the squid appetizer and the rabbit entree (served with perfectly cooked agnolotti pasta). Both delicious, though servings are on the small side. A dessert of salted chocolate caramel tart was impressive. No silly sauces or ice cream - just a perfect tart. The wine list is suitably French in emphasis. Our Menetou Salon was perfect.

Beautiful French Food and Wine

By BethNBK |

My son is in the restaurant business and chose this place for his night off. Monday night no corkage fee, so we ordered one bottle and brought another. Smaller menu but still hard to choose from the delicious options. They do vegetables well. I chose duck breast and it was the best I’ve ever tasted. Desserts were sublime. Prices reasonable for top quality.

Delicious wine and tasty French food

By JimBCalgary |

The kitchen at Racines is very well run: I enjoyed sitting at the counter and watching the small professional team at work. They create some nice French dishes - the squid appetizer was especially good. But it’s the wine choices that raise Racines to another level. Going along with the sommelier’s recommendations, I had some of the most delicious wine choices in memory. Will definitely return.

Best Birthday Ever at Racines

By arturodenoriega |

The sommelier; Arnaud he is the best thing in this place I currently visit when I go to New York. The mixture of flavors and the sense of Paris cuisine is everywhere. Love the fish, the code (meat) and specially the dessert. Exquisite place for someone who likes exquisite food and wine! I had the best birthday with my best friend from school, Jessica and Ryan carnes, great friend and amazing human being!

Great food with wines to match

By Peakclimber46 |

It's like taking a trip to Paris without the jet lag. Great atmosphere and vibe. A small menu you know whatever comes out of the kitchen is delicious and not your run of the mill stuff. Complimented by a great wine list with many choices way below the $ 100 mark. The sommelier will be happy to find something delicious you haven't tried before at a price that suits your budget

Serious cuisine near City Hall and the Financial District

By Mark P |

This fairly new (about a year old), pricey restaurant offers fine dining on Chambers Street. Its limited menu (mostly seafood) allows the chef to focus on each dish more. Although the bar is limited (no juices, so no bloody marys, for instance), the wine selection is varied and deep. We started with an amuse bouche that was delicious and set the tone for what was to follow: a special squash and a Japanese-influenced shrimp dish for appetizers and a superb rabbit concoction and scallops for main dishes. The (again, limited) desserts were just okay. The service was attentive but not intrusive, while the sound system was softly playing Amy Winehouse and Adele. It was expensive but well worth it.

Go for the wine and snacks

By anih225 |

I haven't been to the Racines in Paris yet, but the New York location had a beautiful wine list and great food. My only complaint would be that the cost of the food was high given portions, and so next visit I'd just go for the wine and bar snacks. A fabulous place for wine lovers.

Great food, dark and hot dinning room!

By TravelCoachOriginal |

The food was delicious! Not a long menu, with a variety of modern dishes... nice wine list with decent price options. Service was very friendly and helpful. Ambience is just ok. It was too dark (hard to see what we were eating) and too hot for an early autumn night!

Impeccable

By deepoceansw1 |

You always know you're in good hands when you see an immaculate kitchen operated by people that know what they're doing so thoroughly that there's no shouting or drama. Top grade food is dispatched with real care and devotion. One of the best features is no bus boys shuffling up and having no idea what you've ordered. Your waiter takes your order, and brings you your food, and asks if you enjoyed it when he clears the plates. It creates a completely different dynamic. The bus boy idea took the whole concept of service back to the dark ages, and staff at Racines makes the experience a real pleasure. The sommelier was excellent: Suggested something very reasonable and fairly priced. An outstanding place. Spacious tables. Beautiful room. It's a must-go.

Rare Gem in Tribeca

By 413lynd |

They're marketing this as a wine bar and while it boasts a great list of organic wines it's So Much More! My husband and I were offered a window seat with street view, a quiet table in the corner, or the Chef's corner - four bar style seats facing the small, open kitchen. This is a rare invitation so we chose it and we're so thrilled we did. Where else do you get to watch the preparation of each dish while you peruse the menu? Or personally thank a Michelin Star Chef while you are thoroughly enjoying his work. The menu is intentionally small to emphasize the freshest ingredients. And each ingredient is used in the most surprising ways (e.g. Fennel three ways with the grilled squid appetizer!). Don't miss this place if possible!

Good but underwhelming

By USCKaboom |

I had been looking forward to Racines after hearing Chef Liebrandt was there now. His Corton is still one of my favorite meals in NY. Unfortunately Racines was good but over all underwhelming. Nothing stood out as great. Service was fine but a bit slow. Cute spot otherwise. Just not special.

Fabulous

By classicsailboat |

I had the hanger steak which was a real treat. My wife had the pollock which she raved about. Great attentive service. I enjoyed for my first time Founders IPA on draft. As a result I plan to make this beer my regular beer. Nancy had a special wine from a very extensive wine list, We highly recommend this restaurant.

Casual, Comfortable and Delicious

By W L |

Not a huge menu but excellent execution of everything on it. Lots of organic foods used. Service is very professional, friendly and efficient. Wine service is superb. The venue itself is simple but it's very relaxing. It's French bistro without the tables being too small or on top of one another. No hesitation returning.

Food and wine lover's Mecca in Tribeca!

By Midwest Mark |

I had dinner here with my boss recently while in town for work. Both of us have been wanting to dine here (he lives in SF, I live in Chicago), and we were not disappointed...actually my boss was over-impressed! The room is very comforting and friendly, although it does get a touch noisy when full. Our staff was extremely gracious, professional and helpful with menu suggestions. Table service was spot-on, with a front/back server system to ensure diners are taken care of properly. The menu is on the smaller side, but we still had trouble deciding since everything looked delicious. I decided on the special appetizer of squid ink pasta with uni and lardo (not diet friendly!) and hanger steak, and my boss had the sautéed squid with chickpea and lemon/olive vinaigrette and the chicken entree with carrots, mushrooms and "oxy sauce." Everything was amazingly flavorful and balanced, not too rich or heavy, or to bland or over-seasoned. Spot on! The menu pricing isn't "cheap" but I felt that we received wonderful quality food in appropriate portions (filling but not stuffing). We chose a Northern Rhone Syrah from the well-curated list, which focuses on organic and biodynamic wines from around the world (although there is a focus on France). It paired well with our dishes and was very reasonably priced for the quality.

Back again for an amazing meal

First, ask to sit at the counter overlooking the kitchen. Enjoy the mastery that goes into your meal. We ordered the Chef's tasting and was blown away by every bite. Staff was friendly and fun. The owner/master chef enjoys conversing with his customers which makes it very personal. Can't wait to go back on our next visit to NY.

Paris in New York

Imagine a french high quality bistro in Paris and place this in NYC. Well this is the place! French bistro style cooking, outstanding wine service and very cozy atmosphere! A walhalla for lovers of bio and natural wines.

Anniversary Dinner

By Steven C |

Our anniversary is over the July 4th weekend, and so we always try to go somewhere before the holiday weekend. This year we went to Racines on Friday, July 1. Who knew that the city would be so empty this year? Although there were some people at the bar, we were the only diners there that evening -- for a 6:00pm reservation. I was a little worried but we had the most wonderful and delicious dinner. We had the veal tartare, lobster starter, a duck & pollock entree and a wonderful lemon dessert (that arrived with an anniversary candle). It was a lovely evening and we'll be back!

Delicious French food

The aspargus, lobster and mushroom tart appetizers were delicious as was the Sweetbread entree. The Weinert malbec was very good and they had a hoppy Founders IPA for the beer drinker. The waaitress ws knowledgeable, friendly and very efficient. The chocolate tart was shared and delicious.

Best downtown restaurant, hands down

My wife and I have now eaten numerous times at Racines in Tribeca and we LOVE it. The food is amazing and the wine list rocks. The atmosphere and vibe is slightly different than its sister location in Paris, but just as heavenly. Like many fine restaurants, the menu changes often, but the offering is always creative. I'd also highly recommend the tasting menu. And oenophiles in particular will love the wine list, by the glass and by the bottle--great choices. It's a bit out of the way, on Chambers Street, which isn't known as the golden mile of fine downing, but easily accessible and definitely worth the visit. Great food, great wine, inviting ambience and superior service. Go now.

An unexpected treat

We were brought to Racine's by friends, and it turned out to be an unexpected and wonderful dinner. A delicious tasting menu with wine pairings; I particularly remember the scallop tartare with a parsnip veloute, and the monkfish. The accompanying wines were obviously selected with care, and added delightfully to Chef Duca's selections. Definitely a winner !

You will not be disappointed!

Really enjoyable meal. Refined French cooking. Fantastic wine list heavily orientated towards France. Mark up is high but that seems usual in New York. Knowledgable sommelier/waiter Chris who really knows his wine. Chinon blanc from Bernard Baudry was as good as ever, and a fresh and spicy Poulsard from the Jura was lovely.

Good place for mingling but food was so so

The place is really nice and cozy with a bar and open kitchen. But not sure if it was that particular night or the norm, all the dishes were so salty and we had 3 at the tables so with 6 dishes all being overly salty.......

Would not return

My husband called at lunch time to see if we should make a reservation for dinner - they said no for a wednesday at 5:30 we should be fine. We get to Racines and there is NOT ONE PERSON at any table -- all tables available. The hostess says do you have a reservation, we say no -- she says we are full. I say all these tables are full - a smirk and YES. The restaurant was completely empty. She said we could sit at the bar. There were about 15 ppl at the bar and not 1 seat, or the chef's table in front of the ovens - I asked if its really hot back there and she smirks and says yep! WE tell her about our call for reservations and she tells my husband he didn't call!!!!! Would never return. Snobby hostess turning people away from an empty restaurant. Spent most of her time staring at her ipad. No service, not accommodating to anyone. Couple behind me was also rudely spoken too and they all left! 4 people turned away from an empty restaurant. Hmmmm can't imagine this place will thrive.
