I've been twice and never again. Both times went for dinner before a concert at the garden and both times the place was empty. This last time, the calamari was over cooked and tasteless and the chipolte sauce tasted like red mayo. Burgers were ordered medium and came out well done. Wait staff is clearly bored. Go elsewhere.

We came here with our 18month old son on our last night in New York. The service was excellent - we were made to feel so welcome, thank you so much :) we had the chicken lollipop wings (amazing! I need the recipe) cedar salad as starters which was good. Then my husband had the cowboy ribeye steak and I had the New York strip, both asked for rare and were cooked to perfection. Throughly enjoyable, great price and can't wait to return when we come back to New York! Thank you :)

This is definitely a meat place (even if you consider ahi tuna steaks as fish....) and the meat is very good. I tried three different mini burgers and they were cooked just as I asked and very, very, good. The steak au poivre was great too. My dish came with a very nice homemade apple slaw and an order of excellent shoe string sweet potato fries. For dessert We had an excellent NYStyle cheese cake. Perfect. I'll be back

We ate at Rare during a recent stay at the Hilton. We enjoyed the french fry tasting basket with dips. My husband ordered a turkey burger, and I had the Rueben Frickles appetizer as an entree. All of it was delicious.

I went there because it was close to my hotel and I'm happy that I did! I started with the pickles wrapped in corn beef and fried. It was great get it. Then I had the filet steak which had a great peppercorn sauce. I substituted the mac and cheese for the fries best thing I had little beef pieces. I ate at the bar so great service.

Rare rooftop was a cool place to hangout with friends, drinks were good, little pricey, good atmosphere, the Dj was great !!

We recently had breakfast at Rare two times during a recent stay in NYC. On one occasion we ordered a light breakfast of oatmeal and coffee. On the second occasion we each tried an omelette. Service tended toward "laid-back" rather than the speedy "crank-them-in-and-out-efficiency" of some NYC breakfast spots. We weren't in a big hurry, so we were fine with taking our time to enjoy a leisurely breakfast. The food was tasty and attractively presented. I very much enjoyed what I ordered during each visit. Be sure to take note that they add an auto-gratuity on the bill--it's easy to overlook.

The servers were friendly, atmosphere was comfortable, and food was great! Especially the sweet potato fries! yum! My daughter loved the parmesan fries.

Affordable and delicious. The parmesean truffle fries rock. Check it out if you are in Chelsea. The cowboy ribeye was great.

We ate very good steaks there. 14 oz of juicy 14 oz steaks :) The price was reasonable. Sides were okay. We left satisfied :)

We stopped in after a seminar in the Hilton (attached). Chavale greeted us warmly & after a few nineties of talk we decided to grab a quick meal. We were pleasantly surprised...Chavale is engaging and professional as well as knowledgeable on food. We decided on fish and salads. The tuna over white beans w diced cucumber and tomatoes was delicious! The salmon over greens also fab! The Parmesan truffle fries are over the top. Good value & GREAT service! Make reservations during dinner hours.

We are staying in the Sherborne Affina and after walking the city looking for a decent restaurant that isn't over priced we booked in. The rib eye steak was cooked to perfection. The Tbone burger was also really good and my daugher had a grilled salmon salad all dishes I would recommend. The service was good. The only thing that let it down was the location of our table it was right by a walk way and coat rack. But defo go if you are staying in the hotel.

Easy and convenient in the hotel lobby with excellent service and a great menu. Extensive burger selection that did not disappoint.

Rare was recommended for great food. Loved our server and I literally died over my lobster burger! My friends enjoyed their burgers as well, The professionalism of the staff was great. The lobster burger was all tail no filler. I cannot say enough about this burger.

Due to a flight delay we had to cancel our reservation at another restaurant so we tried this gem. Plus it was next to our hotel. Order a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich and partner ordered the lobster burger. Omg! Killer and delicious. The chicken sandwich had a very delicious honey bbq sauce that was so yummy I want them to sell by the jar! The lobster burger was huge and very delicious. The fries were shoestring and very good. The decor was good. The steak knives stabbed in the wall was a nice touch. Our server was excellent. And the bill was just right. Dang how great to have such a gem so close and really awesome. Would gladly eat there anytime. Hopefully it will warmer outside-it was bitter cold like 10 degrees!

It was an easy choice when not wanting to travel too far from the hotel. Good food and nice choice of beers.

Rare is more than an upscale burger joint. Located inside the Hilton NY Fashion District, the space is open and modern and elegant. In addition to their wonderful, diverse variety of burgers including bison, lobster, turkey, duck, tuna and vegetarian and the melt-in-your-mouth beef with all the fixins (you can customize any burger), they offer huge tender steaks and ribs, along with some great sides like their homemade coleslaw, parmesan truffle fries and onion ring tower. The prices are average for NYC. They serve lunch and dinner and an a la carte brunch on weekends, with $5 bloody marys, bellinis and mimosas. Their desserts are huge and tasty, especially the ice cream sliders. For a nice treat head to the rooftop (open year-round) for cocktails and a great view of the city. Reservations are recommended for the restaurant, since it does get crowded. It's a great place to stop in for a bite and drinks before a game or concert at Madison Square Garden, or for happy hour with friends after work.

I stayed with a colleague who was eating. His plate was very well decorated and looks very tasty. He confirmed that he was happy with the dish I had a beer that well served.

We loved the atmosphere. We had french fry sampler basket. It was average. We had the trio burger to follow. Chef's choice of three mini burgers. They were adorable and 2 were very tasty. Service was average/borderline poor. Not in any rush to return.

Nice quiet restaurant attached to hilton hotel at reasonable prices easy to get walk in table. Attentive staff and managment

Awesome, Awesome food, well priced. We got burgers and cobb salad, def get the burgers. One on the bests we had ever had. Great end to a long day in the city. ***Staff was super attentive, food was hot, came out in a timely fashion, made you feel at home. check it out.

It was about 20 mins to opening sat at the inside at the bar waiting for pre meal meeting to end . Hostess was nice asked if I wanted water I said I'd wait for the shift meeting to be over . Service bartender never acknowledged me he did break a few glasses while stocking . A manager stopped into tell him to be careful those glasses are expensive . I walked to the elevators after asking the bartender where they were located . There was an attendant he said the elevator was for the roof top only . I said yes that's where I would like to go . He said 5 more minutes so I took a seat other guests got on line he told them 2 mins . The hostess was super polite nice mustard colored outfit ! she inquired why I hadn't gone up stairs . I told her the gentleman was a bit rude so I'm charging my phone and I will be going up thank you . I'm dressed appropriately and don't understand why I was invisible to the bartender and dismissed by the elevator attendant . Hoping the experience upstairs makes up for the treatment in the lobby . Well the service was much better nice young lady pushing the elevator buttons . Bartender took my card & ID ... Cocktail waitress polite smiles red hair with curls and red lipstick she gave directions to a better view it was in the smoking section so I snapped a few picks and came back to the other side. Point is you should be nice to all your guests and staff ! that's how you make your living !! Bad day leave it at home . Bar manager a bit brash Sylvia was late and wants to leave she's dying . He wants her to leave because she was late again . He should have sent her home when she clocked in not berated her to the rest of the staff .

The food was average at best. Had the calamari for starters, wasn't the best. girlfriend had the wings which were nice. Burger for mains which was ok. The service was poor, from have the wrong order taking to not providing the right sauce

Loved everything. Food was amazing, every time. Even invited friends to come back to the hotel to eat at RARE. Delicious!

We wanted somewhere close to our hotel when we arrived in New York this eve so we chose rare. The food was great. I had chicken with a mozzarella, avocado and tomato salad and a side of campfire potatoes. My mum has the cheese burger and my sister had a cobb salad. The food was plentiful and the sides were not needed. The cocktails weren’t great at 14 dollars each but they were strong. I probably wouldn’t order a cocktail again though but I would go back for food

We Stayed in the Shelbourne NYC hotel and ate breakfast at Rare bar and grill twice, the service was good and the food was really nice and tasty. Based on the breakfast, next time we're in New York we will definitely eat here again. Hopefully next time the roof top will be open and we can try a streak on the roof, great views from up there

Although generally disappointed in our stay at the adjacent hotel (Shelburne), the service at Rare was excellent. We ate breakfast twice at Rare and were made to feel welcome by the friendly staff. Not only was the food quite good, they were able to answer a few questions regarding our visit. Of course there are literally thousands of places to eat in Manhattan, but if you're in the neighborhood, you won't grow eating at Rare!

Nice american resturant with great burgers and sideorders. Specially the fries with parmesan was great!

Cool place with decent drinks. Music a bit too loud. Dj on the spot. Love the view of the Empire State Building and the skyline in general. Great service!!! Can't say enough about the lovely staff! Nice lounge chairs separated from the bar area.

I was staying at the Hilton next door on business. Because of the late afternoon hour, I was seated at a high top table in the bar. The main dining room did not appear to be open. Presumably being in the bar is the reason I was asked for my credit card "to hold open the tab" before I was served my meal. I had a glass of wine while I waited. I ordered one of the more high end burgers. It came out medium although I asked for it medium well, I did not complain but just ate it. It was fine. The wine was okay but not outstanding. To my surprise, I liked the fries the best although I am not a "fry" person. Sitting in the bar area was not an ideal experience. At one point, there was a conflict with a male (non-minority) customer ordering at the bar who they had asked for his identification. He claimed to be a hotel patron and there was some question about his identity or him staying at the hotel. It got loud and tense but ultimately management apologized to him. I had to give my id when I put the food on my hotel room but not at the beginning as he had been asked to do. Frankly the whole id/credit card experience was a negative and off-putting - both personally and what I witnessed. Perhaps they get some people off the street that may be dubious. It is not an upscale neighborhood. I think I would not go back here because it was not a normal restaurant experience. The food did not make up for this weirdness. Felt more like I was dealing with the government. I will say that my waitress was very pleasant and appeared to just be following the restaurant policies. She was somewhat apologetic. I will say that I was dressed much nicer in professional attire unlike the other customers in the place at that hour so I assumed that affected my treatment. I did not experience this treatment at Rare's other location on Lexington Ave when I went for dinner with a friend there a year ago.

Googled "the best burger on manhattan" and this place did not let me down. One of the best burger I have tried on Manhattan. The service is great. Located just an 15 min walk from Times Square in a mire quiet area. Highly recommended.

This is right in the lobby of the hotel. The staff was very helpful and friendly, and they offer some interesting, but very tasty, twists on some classic drinks.

Business dinner. Great food and service. Every variety of hamburger with delicious toppings. Appetizers were enough to share among 5 people. Shrimp salad was very tasty. Business function on top floor. What a great view.

Had a business dinner and was pleasantly surprised how great my meal was....I started off with the shrimp avocado tomato salad and it was outstanding. Then my New York Strip Medium Rare...was served and it was the best testing steak I have had in a long time....my associate had the fajita burger and she said it was one of the best burgers she has had. For Steak and burgers..you won't be disapointed.

I got a salmon salad here, it was very tasty, much better than the average salads that are served at restaurants in NYC. My husband got a burger and fries, he really liked his meal too. The cocktails are good. I would go back for sure!

Really nice place to go for a drink (I've been drinking Cosmopolitan and it was one of the best I've been drinking in my whole life!). The view over the City it's just beautiful. Good place to go to hang out with friends.

The best steak i have ever had . The service was top class . This is a real trendy eating place . The new york strip is top of the pops !

great place to escape on weekends and enjoy great food, with beautiful view ;))) try m&m burgers yummy

Went with friends to dine on the roof, until we realized it was only a bar up there. So we ate downstairs at the grill and we were all pretty surprised how good it was. Burgers cooked well, tasty - nice menu. Spinach artichoke dip is worth a taste. Shoestring fries aren't my favorite, but they were tasty enough. Drinks were made well. It's affordable - don't think you'll be disappointed.

We started our visit here with food in the downstairs restaurant. Our server was exceptionally polite and attentive. The manager approached our table prior to our food being served and was the most lovely and inviting man. Timothy you and your staff made us feel so welcome and your hospitality knocked our socks off! the food we were served was delicious, items like lobster burgers and spicy chicken lollipops were a total treat after hours of exploring the city! if by some stroke of luck i find myself back in New York yours is the first place i would revisit. also worth noting is the rooftop bar, gorgeous views and the excellent service continued here. Don't change anything guys... you have the winning formula.

The omelette was not exceptionally flavorful. It needed a lot more seasoning. Toast was barely toasted. Coffee is very strong. Large portions an $18 may be the norm in NYC but I expected better for the price

Be aware that on March 25th I sent these comments to Rare.No acknowledgement as of April 2nd. This adds to the POOR customer service. As a customer who spent $200 in their restaurant, and potentially lots more- we go out for drinks and dinner pre MSG events almost monthly. Usually with a group of 6-8. Very disappointing experience on Monday March 18th for dinner at the 26th street location. Our party had 9 drinks at the bar prior to dinner. Service was very good. Would have liked to have sat in corner booth but OMG the ripped up seats are deplorable!! I should have taken a picture. Sat for dinner and very nice service knew we had a show at MSG and was attentive. Had to wait for 2 others in our party. We ordered as soon as they arrived- 7 pm. Asked for Fried Pickles and trio of fries to come out with burgers. Not. Came out prior Server was very apologetic as food (5 burgers) took super long to come out. We ordered 2 more rounds of beers while waiting. Burgers finally came out. I ordered a regular burger lettuce tomato and instead of onion extra tomato. My dish had a corn salsa. In hind-site I should have eaten it. Told the server who said it was an error and the organic burger. Took it back. At this point it was 7:40- sitting from 7 pm Everyone was just about finished when my burger came out I ordered medium rare- Since I was in a rush I would have eaten rare- IT was completely uncooked- RAW!!!!!! my husband eats his meat mooing and said this was dangerously undone. Too late for me to eat. Show called for 8 and we needed to get out of there. Missed the first song!!!!! He took burger off the bill. No manager came over- SOOO disappointed.

We spent the weekend at the Hilton and were excited to wander up to the rooftop bar. The views were incredible but seating was limited due to half of the place being blocked off for a private party. The DJ was going a little crazy with techno and club music which didn't seem to match the crowd of people and made it impossible to have a conversation. Either way, we were excited to enjoy a drink outside! My husband ordered his usual gin & tonic (with a specific gin) and we watched the bartender reach behind him and hand us a drink he had made in error for someone else. He was annoyed when we refused to take it and ask that he make the $14 cocktail to order. We threw back our drinks and quickly left. The views really are lovely but save your money and time and go somewhere else.

We came here as 2 families to eat .. service was great food was great .. when we got to the bill . I noticed we were double charged on an item for substitution . Instead of just giving me the credit . The manager had to re ring the bill and because the other party wasn’t there to offer their credit card we were charged for the whole thing .. in stead of just giving us a $10 credit . In the end don’t know if it was worth the $10 credit of souring the night . Maybe servers need to be taught how to charge for substitution .... a notice to tourists and Americans who just want a fun night in NYC . Always check your bill ..!!!! For us unfortunately there won’t be a next time here .. plenty of other places for good burgers !!!!!

It offers all the staple American food in a great ambiance. The choice of alcohol is good too. It has a bar to relax by and the seating is comfotable and spaced out to offer privacy. Service is efficient. Food is good. great portions. However, limited options for vegeterians.

Been there in vacation, mid august might. Nice venue, a bit noisy. I got a Rare classic burger and sauteed spinach. Then shared in 4 a Deep fried Oreos desserts... just for one person would be tooooo much!! Recommended.

Rareview Rooftop Bar & Grill at the Hilton Fashion District does not disappoint. The DJ is pumping high energy music throughout the night and there are plenty of great food and drinks available while taking in the atmosphere. It was a major plus being a guest at the Hilton to have this venue available on premise. The weather was perfect so the rooftop was open which also added to the great night. Highly recommend!

I first ate here on my recent stay at the attached Hilton upon my arrival while waiting for my room to be ready. I had a cheeseburger and fries (crispy shoestrings - the best!). Great portions too... enough to bring plenty of fries with me back to my room for a snack later. Armando at the bar was lovely, very friendly and helpful with tips on what to see and do. Returned later with a friend and ate again (also good!) Before visiting their rooftop bar which had great views. Apparently we enjoyed the food as we ordered room service from Rare the next day (great perk of this Hilton!). Had enjoyed the burger enough to get it again along with a milkshake which was fantastic. Will definitely return next time I'm in the city.

The meal was fantastic, I had the Jameson Burger with the shot! The burger was made of fresh meat and not a premade frozen patty, service was quick, friendly and witty.

The rooftop was very nice. We went to the one on Lexington Ave. It is a bit on the small side but nice. Very clean and the staff is friendly. The specialty drinks were great at about $15 each. All in all we had a great night.

what else can I say! The 8oz fillet was absolutely the best steak I've ever had. Cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth. After dinner we enjoyed drinks on the rooftop bar which is inside/outside which worked well as it was still quite chilly. perfect evening :)

I had dinner at Rare Chelsea on Nov 27th, charged to my hotel rooms and subsequently found out that Rare had directly debited my card. As I did not have an itemized receipt, I could not get this business trip reimbursed. I called them 4 time upon returning to ask a copy of the ticket, but the restaurant never sent me the receipt. Not a good experience. I will not get back. Jean-Paul

My friend and I stayed at the Hilton here at the same location. It was Superbowl night and we decided to check it out. The hostess took us to the basement. It was nice, cozy with multiple TVs for us to watch the game. The atmosphere was great! We ordered the NY steak, that came with mashed potato and asparagus, we also ordered the prawns and avocado salad. The food was really good. Our server was wonderful. He was very attentive and very efficient. Thank you for such a fun night! p.s. I love the black & white wall with the athletes.

It was a gorgeous autumn Sunday afternoon in New York, and we wanted to wind down a busy afternoon by meeting some friends for drinks. After a quick search online, we headed to Rare. I was a little nervous--while I love the views and outdoor time that can come with a rooftop bar, I typically hate the 'scene' that is often a part of such establishments. We really enjoyed our visit to Rare. There was a short line in the lobby in which our IDs were checked. We excited the elevator and found a pleasantly un-busy rooftop. We quickly found seats and ordered drinks at the bar. The drink selections weren't anything too creative--a handful of beers, some drinkable wines, and typical cocktails. Prices weren't cheap but were not a ripoff either. We did not eat food, so I can't comment on that. Views were awesome; a nice 360 view of NYC, both to downtown and uptown. And the weather was perfect for enjoying the views and conversation over a drink. Very chill atmosphere--busy enough to feel cheery, but not so busy as to feel like a 'scene'. The clientele were pleasant--a mix of locals and tourists enjoying a drink or a late lunch. Not anything too fancy but perfect for what we were looking for. Would happily return.

Stayed at the Hilton Fashion District, bar / restaurant is in the lobby, I did have breakfast there and it was very good, nice omelette. In the evening I had a couple of drinks, good service at the bar with a few local beers. Lots of people in and out, fun time. Unfortunately the rooftop bar had private parties both nights so I didn't get to visit it.

Food and service was excellent. our entrees were perfectly cooked and the service attentive and polite. I recommend and would return.

My daughter and I recently went to NYC for a fun weekend trip. We dined at the Rare Bar Chelsea! We sat in the bar area which had a very nice atmosphere very cool look. Our server was so friendly and made some suggestions since we had never been to Rare Bar before. We started with a few cocktails both of us getting a Cosmo and they were delicious. We ordered the fried calamari for our appetizer and have to say the calamari was very tasty. It had a bit of a nice spice to the flavor and was very crispy. We both ordered the Rare Burger adding topping we liked. Cooked to perfection, very juicy and yummy. The only item that we were not impressed with were the french fries. String fries but extremely thin with not a lot of flavor. Other than that, we were very pleased with our dinner at Rare Bar and when we come back and visit NYC we would visit again. We did not end up going up to the rooftop bar as it was pretty busy and we didn't feel like waiting in the line. Cool place!

If you are about ambiance then this is the place for you. It's a very sleek and sexy space. The vibe is grown up and I loved it! I got a burger and fries and it was very good. I'm not really big into shoestring fries but that's what they serve there. I was staying at the hotel that it's inside of (Hilton Fashion District) and Rare also operates the rooftop bar. I wasn't able to visit that portion but it must be a hip spot because there was always a line to get up there when it was open. If you are in the area it's definitely worth checking out.

This review is for the rooftop bar not rare restaurant Views are not everything, they are great but the service is awful and the 15 dollar cocktails are pathetic, the geezer making them was clueless, a mojito with no sugar or monin syrup, get outa here. Don't waste you're money or time

We had high hopes for this place given the mostly positive reviews. Unfortunately it was just OK. The decor is quite dark and a bit dreary. The service was mixed. It took forever for a server to acknowledge us but was fine after that . My daughter had a burger which was great. I had the BBQ brisket Po Boy which was way too sweet.

This place has pretty nice views of midtown and downtown. The drinks are average city prices. I haven't tried the food. I love the wooden architecture. There are several televisions to watch any game, just ask a waiter or waitress to change the station and they will. They're extremely polite and upbeat. Great drinks, great views.

My spouse and I and two family members visited RARE Skyline View Rooftop Bar on a Saturday evening in early December 2018. RARE Rooftop is open on Monday through Saturday evenings only beginning at 5:00 pm. (Do not confuse the rooftop venue with the similarly named all-day street-level restaurant at the same address.) The rooftop does not accept reservations. RARE Skyline View Rooftop Bar is located in Chelsea at the Hilton Fashion District on West 26th Street (between 7th and 6th Avenues) near the Fashion Institute of Technology. The rooftop setting occupies the 23rd floor of the hotel and is protected by a retractable roof that offers a controlled climate year-round. (A second RARE restaurant, as well as a second rooftop lounge, are located at the Affinia Shelburne Hotel in Murray Hill.) A dedicated elevator whisks guests from the street-level lobby to the top of the building. RARE Rooftop patrons enjoy views of the Empire State Building, Bank of New York, Met Life Building, and even the Freedom Tower. The nighttime spot offers 3,000 square feet of entertainment space where guests sit at tables or on lounge furniture amid lush landscaping, with string lights overhead, faux grass walls, and exposed wood walls. RARE Rooftop serves drinks with cheeky names (“Swipe Right”, “My Therapy”, and “Legs for Days”) along with a small menu of bar bites (wings, nachos, sliders). We enjoyed cocktails at RARE Rooftop before heading out to dinner nearby.

It was Friday in Lent, so I had the tuna steak sandwich, which really hit the spot. Atmosphere was pleasant, but the door opens right onto the street, and a cold, snowy wind made it very cold inside. Many patron were overeheard complaining. They should have restricted entering to only through the lobby.

I stayed at the Hilton Fashion District. The Rare is conveniently located in the lobby. Ordered a steak and beer. Service was extremely slow. When the steak finally arrived it was rubbery. I took a few bites and asked for additional sauce to try to fix it up. It took another 15 minutes for the sauce to arrive, by which the rubber was cold. I just didn't eat it. The shift supervisor then came to check, and surprised me to say that it was MY fault for not returning it immediately. Jesus. I expect more from the Hilton.

Used RARE Rooftop Bar for a special event while in NY and staying at the Hilton Fashion District. It was so convenient to arrange and easy to just go up on the elevator to the roof for a special evening. Catering staff was easy to work with, servers assigned to our party were terrific. All-weather space was handy on a cool, foggy night for a fun party with an amazing vista over the city.

Absolutely worth a visit. The new york strip was the best steak I've ever tasted, cooked to perfection. The service was attentive but not over the top and the bill was reasonable. The only downside was that my sisters food arrived cold but apologies were immediate and food was replaced. They didn't charge for the sides to make up for the error.

I have been here several times and enjoyed my dinner. It's been a while since I've been back but what a complete 180 by way of service and food Let's start with being seated Welcomed warmly and brought to my table. That was the only thing good about my visit So now I'm sitting and NO server comes to greet me. Just sat there waiting while I see servers standing around cleaning silver wear. Finally someone comes over. Very low voice. Inform her that I will have a pironi. She then says "you're a regular here". I informed her I wasn't and she says "are you sure?" I tell her yes I am very sure. She then says did I want the ribeye steak with my meal. I told her no that I just wanted the beer for now. Her comment "I guess you are not the regular". WEIRD. She leaves and then comes back with a beer. I told her I would order. I tell her a burger MEDIUM. She speaks so softly that I can't really hear her and she repeats what I said "medium?" I said yes and she leaves. Never asked if I wanted anything with it. Everything here is ala carte. My meal comes in a reasonable amount of time. I then notice there is no ketchup on the table. So I wait trying to get someone's attention. Finally I catch my waitress and ask her for ketchup. She asks if I want mustard, mayo. I said no just ketchup. She comes back with it and asks if everything us OK so far. She can tell I haven't touched my burger so I said I am not sure but will let her know. Again WEIRD I take a bite of the burger and it was medium rare and closer to the rare then medium. Of course no one around so I eat half. She comes by and I tell her that the burger is rare and show her how red it is. She tells me it depends on the chef cooking it as to what is considered medium. Really last I knew there was not much of a variation. She looks at it and says it its red and I should have told her earlier. MAYBE IF SHE CAME AROUND EARLIER I COULD HAVE. She wants to know if she can do anything I said no as I didn't want to wait any longer. Says sorry and leaves. Doesn't look at my beer to see that I might need a refill. Finally I finish my burger and she comes back and clears the table then comes back to ask if I want dessert. I informed her no and her response was " you sure? There would be no charge". I told her I was sure just as I was sure I was not a regular. Paid the bill and gave a 10% tip which I never would give. I felt like leaving nothing but just never had to do that before. Horrible. Meanwhile who I assumed was the manager was busy walking around with a waitress. I assume training her ( let's see how that goes). Never once did he stop by any tables to see how the meal was. But yet he too polished silverware standing by the register. The place use to be great. Managers in the past were always attentive. Not sure what happen here. Too bad

I enjoyed their burgers but truffle fries were the real winner. Portions are huge so watch out - one order of fries could easily feed two people.

It was a great time to have dinner and drinks at Rare, the food was great, the staff were very attentive and nice. I will definitely comeback.

We tried to eat at Rare after a hockey game at MSG. The restaurant is located in the Hilton Fashion District, and the front desk staff at the hotel had told us that food was available until 11:00 PM. We got to the restaurant before 10:30, and were told that the kitchen was already closed. When we asked the front desk staff to recommend a place close by, they told us that the kitchen at Rare was supposed to be open until 11:00. Hmmm.

Excellent service, great food portions and fair range of drinks/cocktails. Visited twice, so consistent.

After a long trip, we decided to eat in the hotel (Hilton Fashion District). Our meals were very good. The tuna and white-bean salad was excellent (as were the fries). The noise level was high as were the prices for the type of restaurant.

We were staying at the Shelburne Hotel which is adjoined to the Rare restaurant. We had a lunchtime snack in here which was ok but the disappointment was really around the evening drinks. We ordered 2 Grey Goose Cosmopolitans, they were made super quickly (pre made mixtures methinks) and definitely did not taste like Grey Goose. I've been drinking Grey Goose Cosmo's in the USA for the past 12 years and this one did not taste like the real deal. I queried it with the waiter and whilst he admitted that none of us had seen the drinks made, the barman was sure he'd made it with Grey Goose. I couldn't drink it - so it was left....but we still had to pay the $39 for the two drinks....not to be repeated....do not bother with this place for cocktails!!!!

The rooftop bar is worth the visit, for sure, but the downstairs bar/restaurant is nothing short of disappointing. The food is so very much hotel food it's unfortunate. I ordered a medium rare burger and it came out well done. It even had the med rare stick in the burger when it came out. Listen, I had low expectations, and I was right to. The saving grace is the rooftop bar. Really like it up there.

Needed a place to meet and discuss business. But wanted a more casual location. This worked but it was just a little too noisy. However service was friendly and effective, and the food was good. Burger was done to request, and steak too. On my list to revisit when it’s purely a social event for sure.

Brought our son to New York first time for myself, husband & son, stayed four nights & ate in here two nights that speaks for itself. The best steaks you could have, although very pricey you get what you pay for. My son wasn't allowed up to the rooftop bar so we just went for a quick peek which was out of this world. Take note EVERYONE is asked for ID to go up to the roof which I thought helerious as my husband & I are both 50! I am bringing my daughter next year for her 21st birthday & would love to bring her here and show her the roof, remembering our ID of course.

Very good hamburgers well served and a roof top bar with a nice view over New York (not connected except by elevator)

One of the better hotel restaurants I've been to and the burger is king. Many different burgers to choose from but the "T-Bone" is fresh ground strip and filet grilled to your liking. The Parmesan truffle fries are the perfect compliment. Casual atmosphere.

We went in for drinks and appetizers, they were just ok. Later in the week we order sliders. We laughed so hard when we opened our container and there were burgers that were less than quarter size. The smallest sliders we have ever seen. Definitely had a good laugh.

My wife and I enjoyed our visit to the RARE in the Hilton NY Fashion District Hotel in Chelsea. We started at the RARE View rooftop bar on 23rd floor and went back down for dinner. Great views of Uptown and casual environment at roof top bar. Back down to street level to enter restaurant at bar and surprisingly large and open dining room in hotel basement. Very friendly staff, food was good. My wife loved the lobster burger; I had the James Black Barrel burger, which was good, but I didn’t really taste any whiskey in the burger or slaw. Prices a little steep for an upscale burger joint but still worth checking out. Unique use of barbed wire graphics. We loved the environment and left stuffed, had to skip dessert for a walk in midtown.

Leans toward meat. Small menu. Each dish is well-prepared. the wait staff is exceptionally good. I have enjoyed every meal I have eaten there. If you are from New Haven, do not have the Louis Lunch burger. It is not authentic, even though it is good. Great french fries.

This place really is a gem. We even came back late night for the bar and some snacks. As far as appetizers go we got the Rueben frickle which is like corned beef and sauerkraut and pickles combined. Amazing. Entrees we got burgers. I got the M&M burger which is on their speciality menu of ones they marinate in different liquors. It was amazing and cooked perfectly to my taste. We also got the parmesan truffle fries and they are thin cut and were excellent as well. Overall, an awesome experience!!

Located right in the Hilton hotel it was not your average hotel food. I had the Louie burger. Served on toast it was one of the best burgers I have had in a long time. Just the right amount of grilled onion and cheddar cheese. No ketchup needed. French fries are extra but one order is easily enough for two people. Atmosphere was casual and very NY! Loved it.

I was a weekend guest of the hotel and found the restraunt and bar to be much more than I expected. I had wings and prepared a new way and I was really impressed as well as a burger prepared outside the menu and just as ordered. The entire staff was friendly and eager to serve as the location was not on the Main Street but between the block. I was impressed and rarely recommend a hotel restaurant so if you are in the area I would say it is a value and pleasant experience

We have eaten two meals and dessert here. They were very accommodating with us especially since my dad couldn't sit in the high top tables. And we ended up showing up at strange times, starving. The wait staff ran up and down the stairs to bring us drinks (they let us sit on the bottom level). I had a turkey burger one day that was moist and delicious (that never happens lol). The fried pickles are awesome as well (guilty pleasure) My mother and I split a HUGE Cobb salad one Sunday - really good and didn't skimp on the bacon. My dad loved the calamari and his gigantic fried chicken sandwich. My daughter loved the Oreo sundae and loaded bake potato. It's American food but lots of choices and everything I had was good (big portions so don't over order!). The staff went above and beyond accommodating us - even on a Sunday in between shifts. I travel a ton for work and try and avoid restaurants associated with a hotel - but I would eat here any time. It didn't seem like a hotel restaurant at all - loved the food and staff. We all loved our food and it was fine for my daughter (11).

This has definitely been the best service I have received in NYC since I moved a month and a half ago. I've eaten out almost every day and nobody compares to Melanie (our server). She was sweet, attentive and gave us great suggestions. We had a special Peach Sangría that was delicious. Our food was amazing. We had a chicken burger wrapped in prosciutto, the Chef's choice sliders and an order of parmesan truffle fries. All three dishes were perfect. For dessert we had the Deep Fried Oreo Sunday and OMG it was heaven. I would recommend this place with my eyes closed. Keep the great work guys.

We waited for 30 min to find a table in the bar. We then waited another 20 minutes and there was no server. There was one bartender and bar back on the entry level and they were trying to take care of as many people as they coukd. I kept going up to the bar to get drinks and to order an appetizer. The bartender ended up waiting on us since there was no server to be found. Fry appetizer was so so. The seasoned criss cut fries were the best of the 3, but there were on a few. The hand cut and sweet potato fries needed the sauces. Both cowboy ribeye and NY Strip steaks were extremely tough. Just not good cuts of meat. The best thing was the mac n cheese with steak crumbles. That itself was darn good and if I had only had that, I probably would have a different view of how bad the food is for the wait and the service. The staff that we did interact with were top notch and the issues we faced were not because of them.

Lunch at Rare with three friends was excellent! My lobster sandwich was all lobster meat, rare tuna on bean salad was amazing, and chicken with brie was also a big hit. Service was good, atmosphere nice.

DIdn't want to go out in the rain so ate in Rare attached to the Hilton Fashion District. The burger was good, and my client was very surprised at how good the baby backs were. Cristopher was a great server Lastly the homemade chicken soup was incredible

Right off the lobby of Hilton Fashion District is Rare. Friendly staff good food for a quick fix. Burger and waffle fries I had hit the spot after a long night out. . .

We ate in the floor level restaurant. We did not go up to the rooftop bar. I had the ribeye(?) Mac and cheese. It was listed as a side, but it was more than enough for a meal (I wasn't super hungry to be fair). The waitress brought me the wrong wine, but it wasn't that big of a deal - still a dry red. My husband had a burger and said it was good, but it was really small. All in all the food was good, but expensive... But I guess that's just how it is in NYC.

First night in NYC and we were shattered so decided to book for the restaurant attached to our hotel. We were initially unsure - we had tried to access the rooftop bar only to be met by a rather rude man who demanded to see our passports! I understand the comments of Puppylove26 - SOME of the staff seemed a little rude. HOWEVER - our waitress was fantastic and our food choice was great. The only negative was there was too much food! Definitely share orders you place, especially the ribs!

We were looking for a place for lunch and happened to find Rare , our hopes of eating at their rooftop were dashed because we were a few hours early. Decided to eat at the bar area , we made a good choice! My Organic Burger was juicy and cooked perfect . My wife had a Chicken Burger wrapped in pancetta and topped with brie and roasted figs which she loved . The waiter/bartender was spot on with our drinks and food .

Being hotel bound for a few Winter days, I was fortunate to be able to dine at Rare, located at the Hilton Fashion Center. A brand new waiter (Raul) saved my low sugar moment with a glass of water with simple syrup....his idea not mine. The eggplant, mushroom, arugula and brie sandwich was a home run. The next day I was delighted with the Cobb salad which was unbelievably fresh and the very best New York cheese cake ever. But that night a filet au poivre was a huge disappointment. The accompanying fries were a home run, but the architectural looking salad was questionable. Although I no longer eat hamburgers, the Louis' Lunch style one I had here last year was as good as the originals in New Haven. I got the condiments I requested, which are a no no in CT, along with a funny note telling me I was breaking the rules. Staff is excellent and decor is smart.

We stayed at the hotel nearby and had a dinner at the Rare Chelsea. There were few other guest when we arrived but the atmosphere improved after a while. The food was very nice and the fries with parmesan was stunning. The waiter forgot to bring our drinks to the table so we had to remind the staff about it when the food arrived. That was a blemish we seldom experience, but the parmesan fries almost made up for it.

We visited this steakhouse for a birthday! We enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. The hand cut fries starter and the steak was amazing! We were happy with the service although we couldn't get his attention for long periods of time! Overall it was a nice restaurant but it had few veggie options. One thing we were disappointed about was no people under 21 were aloud to the rooftop bar which ruined our evening because our kids wanted to see the view. If I had one tip I would try to allow kids to the roof.

Visited for burgers and drinks. Was very quiet for a friday night. Very little atmosphere and felt awkward as there was a lot of staff so felt like they were constantly watching. Burger was ok but had to buy sides on top. 85 dollars for 2 burgers 2 fries and 2 drinks found very expensive

Located in the Hilton Fashion hotel off 7 Ave this restaurant/Bar is excellent. They specialize in Custom Burgers and they don't disappoint. Food quality is excellent and so is the value. Drinks in the evening are convenient and not over priced. Ate both dinner and breakfast and was not disappointed. Great stop

The burgers and drinks in here are always amazing. You would be mad to miss out and I often travel 40/50 minutes when in NY to make sure I get a meal here.

Been going to Rare Bar & Grill next to the Hilton on W26th for a few years now. It's never failed on food and drink from the bar or restaurant and the atmosphere is always great. All the food is excellent and a quality short wine list always make lunch or dinner a winner. Hence I keep going back, even if staying up or downtown. It's worth mentioning that I did have a an issue back in January, very 'un-Rare like'. Whilst the food was fantastic as usual one or two things didn't go right. I let the Rare folk know a few days later as I'd want to know if it were my business. There response was refreshing, honest and of demonstrable concern. Last week i took some business colleages along to see if normal service was resumed. It certainly was and without any fuss we enjoyed a great dinner, in fact the Ribeye proved to be one of the best meals I've eaten! Bravo Rare, see you again soon.

You pretty much make your own burgers here and they can turn into 16-20 dollar burgers really quickly, but what I had was really good. There fries and Mac and cheese were good as well and ask for all their special dipping sauces as those have some great flavor. Be careful because the drafts are only 12oz or 33cl pours for 8 bucks.

Avoid at all costs. Traveled to NYC for the holiday weekend. Heard great things about this restaurant. I think they think they are a steakhouse even though the name of the restaurant is "Bar and Grill." 1) We were told that rooftop is only for 21+ (we had a kid with us) and there is no food served upstairs. No problem. We were seated all the way back, downstairs, close to the restrooms. The restaurant was very empty. The lighting is very dark. So much that we used cell phones to look at the menu. 2) For the child, we ordered the sliders. It took about 20 minutes. After the drinks came out, we asked where their food was (because it was taking a while). They said it would be out soon. 3) When it was finally time to order (I'm veg), I asked about the ONLY vegetarian item on the menu (the eggplant). I wanted to make sure it was just breaded/fried eggplant. The waiter told us it's basically an eggplant, cut in half to use the buns and then stuffed with other things. That sounds disgusting. I ended up getting parmesan fries and a side of spinach. When I got my food, the spinach looked like it came out of a can. The fries were cold, burnt and barely any parmesan on there. 4) There was also a pregnant lady with us. When we were ordering drinks, she asked the waiter for a non alcoholic drink. He said they have soda. I piped in and said "like shirley temple, etc." He shook his head no. She said she would stick with water. I'm not sure if the waiter wasn't understanding what we were asking or didn't care. I decided to take the courtesy and email the manager about how I wasn't happy and the issues. He apologized, but said as far as a compensation, there was nothing he can do. He did offer to have me come back in (to a restaurant that I was more than eager to leave because it was terrible) and treat me to the vegetarian meal (the one that caused the whole issue to begin with). I'm not sure what part of I traveled to NYC for the weekend, that there's a restaurant every other door in NYC or that I was miserable being there that he didn't understand. Save yourself the money, the service, and the dungeon appeal. Go elsewhere. It is not good. And I wish I had seen the other reviews. This place has 3 stars for a reason.

Mostly meat on this menu. Burgers, steaks, chicken. Event the Greek Salad come with 3 lamb chops! Some salads if you don't like meat. Two levels. Pub upstairs with sports on TV, large dining room downstairs with lots of tables. Decent number of choices for beer and wine. Good service.

Great fun place that delivers excellent food combined with wonderful service. This place is a great value for NYC !!

We came in for a Saturday brunch. The waitress was unprofessional. She had five tables and was acting like she had a full house. She forgot drinks, refills, and condiments. She scolded the bus boy on multiple occasions. And kept us waiting 15 minutes for the check. Food was pretty good, but service ruined the ambiance.

After a long day of sightseeing and walking NY we decided to take in the rooftop bar. It was a great experience and beautiful view of the Empire State Building. The music was very good as well. Drinks were pricey, but they didn't cheat you on the alcohol. If you never been to a rooftop bar try this one... Made some new Friends.

visited here while I was staying at the Hilton, and was pretty impressed. So often, hotel venues are an attempt at having a middle-of-the-road eatery with a captive resident audience, but this place is done very well indeed! It's a proper bar and grill, without feeling even remotely that it's part of a hotel. I had a la carte breakfast here while staying at the Hilton, as breakfast wasn't part of my package, and the selections were excellent and tasty. It's typical breakfast fare, but done with a touch of class that you'd expect of a restaurant that's a bar and grill. I also managed to check out the roof top bar, which was pretty cool. The views were good (though it was cloudy during my stay, so the view of the Empire State Building was pretty well hidden!), but the beer selection was a bit mundane, with just the usual mass-produced offerings available. Also, the rooftop bar only does snacks, not meals, so keep this in mind during your visit... Not a bad place at all

That was our first visit at Rare and it was a blast. The location is awesome. The food was so delicious. Our waiter William was great. Such a funny guy. We also chatted to the manager Chavale. She's a great person and doing a great job. After dinner we went to the roof top bar. We had a stunning view. We highly recommend this place. The next time we'll definitely come back.

In the warm weather months, this is a great place to sit outside and grab a drink. We did get the nachos and they were very good. Sometimes there is a DJ

Was staying at the Hilton Fashion district and this is their only restaurant. My flight got in late and so this first night I ha don choice but to eat at Rare. Its good they serve until 11pm. They sat me in the bar area which was far too noisy of my taste (3 TV's all on different channels plus music) and by the front door which bled icy wind whenever anyone came through rather than via the Hotel. Even though I was staying there they have a policy to leave your credit card behind the bar, their reason being "because its a NY bar". I ordered a burger and a small salad and a soda. Soda came quick but was never refilled, burger took forever and wen it came it was pretty good but not fantastic. Service was a bit sluggish and I had to chase down the waiter to pay the bill so I could get to my room to sleep. Second day we ended up eating at the restaurant as a group of 5. I'd already had the burger so was a bit challenged to pick a non-burger, 2 of us picked the trio of burgers which sounded great but ended up being 3 one-bite burgers, they tasted nice but it was more like a snack / slider than a real burger leaving us really hungry. But that left us space for the NY cheese cake, it was OK but a not dry enough for me (I like it baked) and far too sweet, but still quite good. When faced with having to eat lunch here a few days later, I stuck to just a soda!

This place has not kept up its reputation. Used to be a really good spot for food and service; now it is not . Great view and good drinks are it at the moment . I would eat nothing here as you cannot know if it is correct. Sorry but management needs to wake up. You are messing up and losing your reputation

After a long day of traveling, I ate at the restaurant in the hotel; Rare -boasting the best burgers in NY. The burger was good, but the atmosphere of the restaurant was a bit lacking.

Today I visited Rare for lunch with some friends. We ordered lobster burgers which came with a little salad, tuna steak sandwich which had sliced avacado on it, and grilled ahi tuna salad. We also ordered the french fry tasting basket to share, which has a mix of sweet potato fries, cottage fries & hand cut fries. This comes with 3 types of dipping sauce besides ketchup. Everyone enjoyed their meal & we all left satisfied. Nice atmosphere, tables were far enough away from each other so no conversations were overheard. We were actually able to hear each other speak since the music in the background was pretty low. Nice service & friendly staff.

After 4 years of enjoying this truly secret of a wonderful restaurant in midtown NY, it is time to share this secret. Rare servers ribs, steaks and burgers and great starters, that are half priced than other restaurants around the block, yet as if not better. Portion are very big, and sides are too, so watch out not to over order. By the way the best outrageously big Nacho's plater a must! Recommend for family and friends dining as well as business. Enjoy!

Was in NY for work and stopped to have a drink on the roof. Was good but they don't do a happy hour special. Views were great. Had dinner down in rhee lobby restaurant. Burger and regular fries were excellent. Service at the bar was great.

The location , the view, the quality and the price. It's clearly on the MUST DO list in ny. Doesn't matter your age you will enjoy it.

My review is based on the food alone as didn't visit the restaurant we just ordered room service. After a massively long day of travelling from the UK on New Year's Day on 3 hours sleep we were simply too tired to visit the restaurant so we ordered room service. We ordered 2 burgers and 2 fries. The food arrives maybe 15/20 minutes after arriving which we were suprised. The gentleman brought the tray though and insisted in putting on the desk which was lonely of him, I hid under the covers as I was in my pjs haha. The burgers were delicious and cooked exactly how we like them, it's a rarity in the UK to actually get a burger the way you request it, so this was a treat. We also ordered cottage fries & onion rings. There was a big plate of fires beetroot? slices too which I assume must have came with one of the burgers as we didn't order this seperately. The bill was $53 for 2 burgers & 2 sides, no drinks as already had those, this was also excluding tip. I felt this was quite expensive but when the food arrived we were happy to pay as delicious and obviously brought straight to us. Perfect case of supply and demand, we didn't want to go out so we were happy to pay whatever price. Would recommend the food, we throughly enjoyed it, and big side portions, share like we did, don't ordered one to yourself.

As a guest at the Hyatt where this property is located, I actually had a few meals from Rare throughout my business trip (convenience). The service is friendly, but a bit awkward. It felt like they weren't sure why I was there. LOL. Nonetheless, I did greatly enjoy their signature M&M burger and highly recommend it. I don't eat wheat, so I had mine "naked" and enjoyed every last bite with a knife and fork. It is a la carte, which meant I skipped the fries and ordered a small caesar salad on the side. (I like that I am not expected to take fries on the side as I love fries and am trying to avoid them... and they looked really good on other tables). I ordered a drink - bourbon on the rocks and it was a pretty small pour. They do get points, however, for using one giant ice cube (rather than a glass full of small fast-melting ones). Another time, I tried the Ribeye burger and added bacon. I ordered it "medium" because I am a risk taker with ground meat and because it is a ribeye. Unfortunately, it came out rare and the bartender never came back to check on me. I don't mind rare steak, generally, but this made the middle of the burger cold and that is sort of gross to me for some reason when it is ground up. The bacon is perfect and the avocado was a nice touch. Honestly, this wasn't as flavorful as the M&M, though, and would have been outright bland without my added bacon. The chili was awful. I have a broad variance of chili styles that I consider "good" in that every region does it differently and they are all tasty in their own way. But, this was not spicy (not just not-hot, but had no obvious spice added that I could discern) and was SWEET. Did the chef mean to add salt (which it needed a lot of to be even remotely palatable) and added sugar instead? No idea. But, the chopped red onions given on the side had a bitterness to them that screams, "I was chopped up days ago." So, I didn't add them to further the bizarre flavor. Maybe I should have?? I was excited for the "lollipop wings" because who doesn't love lollipops? But, the flavor was *meh* on what was ordered to be "hot" version. And, apparently "lollipop" just means they bust the bones of the wing so you hold onto a short jagged-edged bone and nibble at the piece of meat (and mostly soggy skin attached) that they didn't cut off the wing to expose the bone. The "Roquefort fondue" that comes with it was cold -and not particularly tasty - blue cheese dressing from what I could tell. But, I ordered this one through room service. Maybe these are better in the bar? I didn't go up to the rooftop (regret that, actually) but did find the food and drinks to be reasonably priced and the ambiance pleasant. Obviously, though a couple of the items were a bust, it was good enough that going back outweighed the option of walking anywhere to find something better during my short breaks in my work. If you like good burgers and are in the area, it is a good place to stop in and take a load off. Steer clear of their chili and use caution ordering the wings if you like spicy food, though.

We stayed at the Hilton attached, I was reluctant to try yet another hotel bar and restaurant. We had picky teenagers with us (3) who basically hate everything. We ordered burgers and fries. The food was fresh, tasty fries with various dips and excellent burgers. Everything was well priced. It had an upscale feel without being too pricey. Alot of young adults on dates, but we did not feel out of place with our family.

Booked a table of ten at Rare. Called twice in advance, spoke to two different people, both who assured me that we could sit in their :lounge" area so we could watch the NFL games while we ate. Arrived there on time, and was seated elsewhere, with no chance of sitting in the lounge area. It was only 6pm as well, as opposed to a peak hour. Plain and simple two hostesses lied to me. Won't go there again. Food was decent, our server was attentive.

Good views in this bar and nice cocktails too. Didn't have food but looked good, would recommend a visit here.

We stayed at the Hilton and decide to give a chance to this restaurant.... We weren't disappointed at all! The service was amazing and the food was delicious. The choice of your burger will be the hardest part since everything looks great. The French fries are amazing . The price are correct for the quality of the meals. Bref le je recommande et le recommande encore .

Not only will you get good food but if you sit at the bar you will get a great drink and a fun bartender. Maurice is so funny and since I stay at the Hilton that is attached a few times a year; he even remembers me! You can't go wrong with either the bar downstairs or the fabulous rooftop bar upstairs.

We came here for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon; there were 11 of us and we were seated immediately. Variety of sandwiches, burgers and salads for lunch. Definitely will recommend and return here

My friend wanted a steak our last night in New York. And we found out totally by accident about the wonderful restaurant they have hidden behind the elevators at the hotel. It was very quiet when we were there. The service was excellent and everyone was so helpful and really knew what they were doing. One of them even knew how to pour my friends ale into her glass without getting a lot of air in it. She was very impressed about that. We ordered a Porterhouse steak to share and Parmesan fries on the side. Everything was tasty. I even brought home my half of the steak for my husband because I knew he would go crazy at how thick the steak was they served us. That steak had to be a good three inches thick. I've never seen such a thick steak. The Parmesan fries were fried in Truffle oil, so it gave them a very different taste from ordinary fries. There was so much food! Then they tried to talk us into dessert. Luckily my friend saw how big the desserts were at another table so we bowed out on that part of dinner. I got a drink called About Last Night with vodka in it. I've never had vodka before, so they talked me in to trying it. It was actually very good. I 'll probably get another one sometime. Didn't think to take my camera, so didn't get any shots of the food. Wish I had, it was something!

I take a bite of the burger and it was medium rare and closer to the rare then medium. Of course no one around so I eat half. She comes by and I tell her that the burger is rare and show her how red it is. She tells me it depends on the chef cooking it as to what is considered medium. Really last I knew there was not much of a variation. She looks at it and says it its red and I should have told her earlier. Too bad

There are 3 Rare venues in this Hilton property; there is the subterranean restaurant, the ground level bar, and the roof top lounge. I have only gone to the restaurant and roof top lounge. You need to understand Rare is not a Hilton hotel restaurant, it is an independent company who leases the space(s) from the Hilton Hotel. The roof is one of the nicest roof top bars in NYC, due to the fact it is open year round and during the warmer months it has a retractable glass roof, openning the space to the sky above. there is no happy hour and the drinks are about $14.00 and draft beer is $8.00; these are pretty standard NYC prices. the hours on this space are some what limited; they are only open from 4:00 PM until about midnight, I am sure this is due to the hotel limiting hours of operation. This works for those of us who are not late night bar flys, the bar flys get started around midnight and go to 4:00 AM, as a result by and large this crowd does not generally come here. The views and the openess are extraordinary. The staff in my opinion have a best practices approach in terms of customer service, this starts with the General Manager on down. The Rare restaurant in the basement with a double height ceiling is excellent. They serve some of the best burgers and cold fresh salads in a moderately priced NYC burger restaurant.

Had dinner here solo. like the menu choices and found the pricing fair for NYC. Ate in upper bar area but there is a sizeable downstairs dining room that is a little more comfortable. Try the homemade chicken vegetable soup

The food and service was very good. Nice beer and wine selections. The bar section is very comfortable and nicely appointed. The restaurant, which is primarily located on the lower floor with no windows has little visual appeal. They should have a decorator in for a look. If you like your burgers rare, this is definitely the place for you. I ordered medium well, which at least on this evening was apparently not allowed. I was only able to eat around the edges and trashed the rest. I wasn't about to make a fuss in a restaurant called Rare. Otherwise food really was good. The appetizer featuring three types of fries including sweet potato was sinfully shared among three of us. The accompanying sauces were scrumptious.

We're staying in the hotel (Hilton Fashion district) and stopped here for a burger ...our waiter Raul was awesome, super attentive and seemed to be enjoying his job a lot, good energy that made it more enjoyable than just a stop at the hotel restaurant! Food was great, would definitely come back the next time I'm in nyc

The cowboy steak and risotto is great. Good place to take a meat eater for moderate price meal in Chelsea. The place can e a little loud.

Went with friends, the service was super slow. Waited for like10 minutes for a drink when the place was empty. At the end the bar back came and shouted that they are closing after 2 minutes right after we paid our check.

I was staying at the Hilton where this is located and had lunch in the Rare Bar and Grill when I went back to pick my bags up before heading home. I thought the burger was pretty good. The service was friendly and the prices were reasonable. Overall I was very pleased with my meal. The evening before I had visited the roof bar, which was OK. Service was fairly efficient, but there was some sort of private event going on in one area of it, so they were clearly the priority for the staff. The views were good, but I wouldn't rush back there.

Pros: food was all good Cons: booked a table on web and asked for a nice table for the last night in NY but given a table against a pillar with one chair so unstable we had to change it. No candle light lit on our table. Forgotten lemon in my ginger ale and asparagus side dish never turned up. Furniture looks bit dated. Overall it didn't live up to my expectation for a special evening. More suitable for a casual bite at the bar.

We went to the restaurant reasonably early so it was quiet when we walked in which put me off a little but the good and service were great! I had a the beef quesadilla for starter which was really tasty and then a burger which I loved, the portions were really big by UK standards but that didn't take away from the quality.

Our experience here was the ONLY negative part of our entire to trip. We chose this hotel in part because of the rooftop bar (the view we saw in pictures were incredible) and went up on Sunday 7/26 shortly after 10pm to have one drink to end the day, which was my 50th birthday. The female bartender was yelling to no one we could see that she was over working that night (it was slow due to U2 concert) and she was closing early even through she hadn't told anyone else, including the hostess who welcomed us off the elevator. Refused to serve us, even when we tried to explain we just wanted one drink to celebrate my birthday and view the skyline before going back to our room. She did give us 2 free drink coupons to use at the restaurant downstairs, but we were disgusted and disappointed by then and went to the Compton Ale House across the street. Their staff could not have been nicer. I'm still glad we chose the hotel, which was fantastic, but this bartender left a very negative impression we won't forget.

Found this place via tripadvisor and was not disappointed. The 14 oz NY steak was the best I have had, full of flavour and cooked to perfection. The mash potato with chives was really good and went well with the steak and asparagus. Tried the NY cheesecake and the taste and texture was out if this world. It has made me realise how bad the British versions are!! Waitress was friendly and efficient without bring over the top. Plenty of space between tables which was refreshing as some places just squeeze everyone in. Without question would recommend

This jewel of a steakhouse and burger joint sits nicely inside the Hilton Hotel lobby on 152 West 26th Street in Chelsea. We had arranged to dine on the rooftop, however, due to the weather conditions (rain, and rain) were taken inside the restaurant. There are two floors, a lower dining, and upper hightop tables and full service bar. Famous for their burgers and moderately priced for Manhattan. Good service, cooked to order, and boasts a nice well rounded menu, starting at $9 and up. It is wheelchair accessible and the staff is both courteous and professional. On a clear day, the rooftop is great, with views of lower Manhattan and comfy seating. There is also a location in the Murray Hill neighborhood.

This restaurant is located in the Hilton Hotel. We were very fortunate to have Adrian as our waiter! He was very attentive, funny, and personable. He made excellent menu suggestions which all turned out to exceed my expectations! The drinks were delicious too. I look forward to returning to Rare.

I'd read a lot of good reviews about Rare Bar n Grill so I saved the burger option for my last meal in NY. I knew the price would be higher than other but some things are worth paying for and this is one time I didn't mind. The M & M burger was a might beast that had a bourbon, Makers Mark, flavour which wasn't over powering but just right. Try and make this a priority to visit.

It was our first day and having travelled from the UK we headed straight out to explore NYC. Why waste a minute. Walking round the district, ticking sites off our list,we finally decided we were all very tired and very hungry. We wandered for a while hoping to spot the perfect oasis but eventually stopped two local girls and explained just what we were hoping for. They couldn't have selected better. The table we had was a calm oasis of splendid food and refreshment. Lovely choices of tasty morsels we all ended up shopping and sharing. "You must try this, have you tasted that?" Always the sign of a great meal when everyone wants to share. What better way to end our first day.

Good service, good food. Primerib burger, mac n cheese ummmm! Good stuff! Mini burgers were well received and tasty. No real negatives!

This is the bar & grill within the Hilton on the ground floor (rooftop was closed for party). Low quality wine, and gin and tonic that managed to taste almost bitter even tho, or perhaps because, it had an over abundance of gin in it. Multiple TVs on, minimal ambiance. No free nibbles with drinks. Service okay. Did not try any food. A shame amidst so many wonderful places in Chelsea/Fashion District area.

I'm so glad we happened upon Rare! This place has an awesome atmosphere and delicious food. The steak was reasonably priced and the serving size was massive. The basket of chips is a must. Service was efficient and friendly and we are so happy to finish our trip on such a positive note :)

This bar has a wait to get up. Usually around a half hour. But you can wait downstairs in the hotel restaurant/bar and have a drink in the meantime. Once you're let up to the bar you're greeted immediately and taken to your table. The drinks are expensive. But it's granted, you're paying for the view. I had a coffee martini that came out to about $24. We just wanted to have one drink to get a good view of the city skyscrapers. It was worth it for us. To be honest there's nothing special about the bar other than the view. If you're looking for good pictures and don't want to pay elsewhere I would recommend stopping by here. We did not eat so can't comment on the food

We stayed at the Hilton Hotel next door so ate here a few times Food was fantastic every time, great portions and reasonably priced Service was excellent from Raoul over in the bar side (sorry if spelling is wrong), he was always friendly and had great suggestions for us for meals and drinks We also had a few cocktails at the roof top bar which is a MUST. Cocktails were delicious and views at night are beautiful, atmosphere was great with the DJ too - Was a great night I read a review from a woman saying she was disappointed kids were not allowed - RARE...please keep it this way as the experience would not have been the same with children running around excitedly (there are already plenty of places with observation decks which are suitable for kids)

Some of the best burgers in a gorgeous environment Try the m&m burger or the chefs special burger of the day They grind their burger fresh every day and you can tell the difference! The service can be a little slow but it's worth it!

High marks for this hotel restaurant. The Rare Fashion and Lobster Sandwich were extremely good. The staff were extremely hospitable. High praise for this place.

We had food downstairs in the restaurant before heading upstairs for drinks and views of the city. Portion sizes were great as was the overall quality of the food- service was fabulous and there was a good ambience in the restaurant. The rooftop bar is fabulous- we went at sunset. Great staff.

Great view about great hotel. Would stay there and go here again. Place started getting crowded in the heated covered bar. Could imagine how packed durning Summer w top off

Enjoyed a great burger here, coming from someone who doesn't eat many burgers it was lovely, served rare (definitely sub conscious promotion going on). Got classic with bacon and onions so good would recommend to anyone staying in New York!

Stayed at the Hilton where the bar is located so we went for drinks on the rooftop during our stay. The views were nice. The drinks were fine but nothing spectacular. All the drinks were served in plastic cups/glasses...? Not sure why but this was a bit tacky.....the rooftop was covered so perhaps in the summer they serve in plastic to avoid having glasses dropped/thrown down? We tried going back on a Friday night at 11h00pm and were told it was closed....Hard to believe they would close on a Friday night in NY. I would try again in the summer to see if the experience would be better....

This was probably my 5th or 6th time eating at Rare. The food is always great. I usually order a burger because they make best burgers, cooked just right but this time around I went for the Cowboy steak and it was fantastic. The meat was cooked just the way I like it, medium was actually medium with just the right pinkness. But the risotto it came with was superb. My friend had ribs and they were fantastic as well.

we read a review that promised rooftop bar, fantastic burgers and the best fries in NYC. We got none of those. This is a bog standard burger restaurant on the ground floor of a hotel. At 6.30 pm on a Sunday evening it was quite busy. We are still wondering why. Decor is rather dreary and tired. Rooftop bar closed. Burger was unremarkable, nothing gourmet about it. Fries went cold within seconds. Service acceptable but unmemorable. Don't expect too much.

Six of us were visiting NYC and wanted a restaurant not too far from the hotel that served ribs and we ended up here. We chose the restaurant as opposed to the rooftop as we intended to go to the rooftop for an after dinner drink. Very few patrons in the restauarant so we were promptly seated and served. I think all cocktails in NYC have been price fixed as they all seem to be $14.00. I had one which was scotch based. I didn't particularly care for it. We were all in the mood for ribs and ordered the same. The waitress came back about five minutes after we placed our order and advised that they only had enough ribs for 4 people so two of our group changed their orders. I would have thought that the waitress would have known that when we placed our orders. Another couple of minutes went by and she came back again and said they only had enough ribs for 2 people. Now this is getting a little ridiculous. So two more of our group had to change their orders. I was one to volunteer. I ordered chicken which came with a side salad and Mac and Cheese. Nice presentation, tasty salad but I found the chicken to be a tad overcooked. Very good Mac and cheese. After the second rib incident our waitress brought the Manager to our table. We thought we should be compensated in some manner for our evening not getting off on the right foot. She offered free desserts but none of us were really dessert eaters. So we asked for our appetizers , which we had already eaten, be complimentary which at first she did not go along with but later came to the table and said ok. Now let's do the math.. 6 desserts @ say $8.00 each vs. 2 appetizers @ $10.00 each. They were ahead of the game $wise but wanted to give us what "they" wanted to rather than something that the customer would benefit by. The two in our group who did get the ribs said they were good. Our dining experience should have been better.

I went with 4 other colleagues to have a drink on the Rooftop Bar - it is located on the roof of the Hilton just beside the Rare Bar and Grill. Unfortunatly for us there was 2 private parties that night on the rooftop which made it quite unpleasant to stay to enjoy a drink as the place was clugged up with no where to sit or even stand without being bumped into. We quickly finished our drink and went to have a meal at the Rare Grill. The food was good (we all had burgers) and the service was friendly and adequate. Overall an OK place to go to, would most probably consider trying somewhere else on another occasion.

Had some drinks in here, as well as food on separate occasions. The food was pretty good, but I'm not sure I would say it was the best burger in NYC. The drinks on the other hand were a different story - my wife ordered a Grey Goose Cosmopolitan and it simply was not made with Grey Goose. My wife has had enough Grey Goose Cosmo's to know the difference! It was either a very bad Cosmo with Grey Goose, or it was a Cosmo with other vodka. Either way it was not what was asked for and even when we queried it, we were basically told that was simply it...not great...

After a hugely expensive lunch at Chelsea Market, we searched out a place to get a reasonable dinner. Down the street from our hotel was a Hilton, and it's Rare Chelsea proved to be quite the surprise. Outstanding specialty burgers less than $20 each. Cheapest meal we had in NYC and one of the best!

I can only speak to having breakfast at Rare... but it was excellent. We had vouchers for the continental breakfast from staying at the hotel, and for only $7.00 more we upgraded to the breakfast buffet. It was excellent! The coffee mugs are nice and big, the coffee was really good, and there was more than enough to choose from at the buffet. Bagels and lox every morning (my personal favorite) with all the coffee I could drink for only 7 bucks?! Insane in New York City! That gets me only a coffee down the block!

This place is a must if you're a guest at the Hilton New York Fashion District. Hilton HHonors Gold Members get a discount on the delicious breakfast buffet, and you get friendly service from David and Grigorio. The rooftop bar portion ("Rooftop Rare?") has to be seen to be fully appreciated, and up there you get great service from Lanny (who mixes Bombay Sapphire martinis just right), Abbie, and Robin. The hot wings are strong and delicious.

We went to Rare for dinner and roof top drinks. The service down in the diningroom was great, nice atmosphere and the best burger I've ever had! If you are 2-3 persons having burgers I highly recomend the mixed fries to share. 3 different kinds of hand cut fries that even my boyfriend, who hates fries, loved! Nice view from the roof top bar, but its a boring place, poorly decorated... Has potential but no one seems to care about it.

Had dinner on 1/11 at Rare. It's not much from the outside, connected to the Hilton Hotel. There is a bar connected to the restaurant which was crowded with happy hour guests, corporate crowd. The restaurant is a flight of steps down and is really nice. The service was fantastic. I wish I could remember our waiters name. The prices are reasonable for NYC too. We shared a salad which was excellent and the burgers were fantastic. The M&M burger was recommended and is excellent. You can tell the quality if meat and ingredients is top notch. I would highly recommend Rare to anyone in the area, it's perfect for a meal before an event at MSG.

This restaurant is tucked away in the Hilton. I was staying at the hotel so this was convenient for breakfast. Coffee was quite good -- didn't taste like institutional junk. Not sure what they use but I enjoyed it. Breakfast had several options. The server was perhaps not as attentive as he could have been but definitely got the job done. Food was delivered nicely - hot, fresh and tasty. Nothing special but you could do a lot worse for similar $$ or even more in this area.

I was here for breakfast as it was provided by Hilton. Friendly and kind service. Good atmosphere. The food was pretty good and the portion sizes were huge. Too bad, I don't have time to try their lunch or dinner, but I would recommend others to give this restaurant a try. They also operate a rooftop bar and it is amazing. Great view of the city including the Empire State Building. Drinks were good. I had the house wine and I liked it. I think it is opened everyday, but I believe they do close earlier on Sundays than on other days.
Good restaurant and bar
We were exhausted after a day of sightseeing, so we decided to have dinner at the hotel and a drink at the rooftop bar. Rare offers restaurant seating, and a sports-bar like area, in addition to a rooftop bar with lovely views of the Empire State Building. We were seated immediately. Service was attentive, although I thought the busser was a little too quick to clear plates when I was still finishing my burger and fries. The food was well prepared and described accurately. Service at the rooftop bar was okay - I'm not entirely comfortable with someone else holding both my ID and credit card for the duration of the visit, quite frankly. Prices are a bit high in the bar, but you pay for the view. Good selection of beer, wine and mixed drinks. Overall, it's fine for the theme, and it's a decent option when you just don't want to leave the hotel. If I were to stay at the hotel again, I would likely go to the restaurant for one of my meals.
