New curry chicken is delicious- beautiful curry sauce

By Tripmantle |

Dropped in whilst walking by. Great food. Great service. What more could you want? What's really annoying is TripAdvisor forcing me to write more characters before I can submit this review. Really frustrating when a company tries to control what you can or can't do. If it wasn't for the good experience at Red Bamboo, I would have just closed the review & not submitted it. No more reviews from me!!!!!!

There are no words...

If you're vegetarian, hell even if you're not, you'll love the food here. We shared a portion of buffalo wings to start and wished we'd had one each! This is seriously good quality food. The philly cheese steak sandwich was heavenly, the bread was so light and everything tasted superb. Service was great and the décor is pleasant. The bill was very reasonable too. No room for dessert unfortunately but maybe next time!

Buffalo wings n seitan kabob

By Ribqua |

I enjoyed the food. The display was very welcoming as well as the service. The waiters are very attentive, catering to your every needed. My mother whom I must say is not a vegan. She enjoyed the food..she recommends the soul chicken.. You will live this place. Thumbs up!!!!

Amazing food

Visited NYC with my partner and this restaurant was our favourite place that we ate at. Food was vegan and so delicious!

Good vegan option, beware of grumpy servers

By Taylor G |

Met some friends at Red Bamboo for a birthday celebration. The food was pretty tasty (4*). I enjoyed the "chicken" bbq wings, some veggie dumplings, sweet and sour chickn and curry chikn. 3* for the waiters/staff. They were pretty rude and acted too busy to give us recommendations or take our order. We were rushed out very shortly after desert. Just not a feel-good environment. Perhaps order takeout!

Great food. Small premises, very cosy. Made very welcome

By rootsmanuva2015 |

Brilliant menu, equally delicious food. Totally veggie - but you wouldn't know! the quality is very high. Building had an "subway train station" type odour but it wasn't too off putting. Would recommend and revisit when in NY anytime

Concept Good, Reality Not So Good

By Ruth20904 |

Cozy restaurant with helpful and pleasant staff. We had the Bourbon "chicken" (too sweet!) and black bean tofu stir fry (good but not exceptional.) vegan cheesecake was a treat as was the gluten free banana chocolate cake. Would not go out of our way to go back.

Fantastic eating experience

By Annukka |

Great selection of vegan food, friendly staff - overall a fantastic eating experience! We were here for lunch and enjoyed the atmosphere and the spicy dishes. The meat replacement they use is really tasty.

Tasty Vegan Fare

By AuburnsKai |

Red Bamboo opens at 12:30 p.m. There were five of us waiting to get in at 12:25, and by 12:45, the restaurant was quite full. That should tell you something about the popularity of Red Bamboo. I very much enjoyed my meal, vegan chicken parmesan and a fried collard green roll. The amount of the chicken parmesan was so substantial that I took some of it home.

great place!

Very cute little vegan restaurant in greenwich village. Looots of different options, i didn’t even know what to choose! I has the ribs, which had a delicious sauce.

Vegetarian's Dream

By Melissa S |

So many choices and all of them are amazing even my meat eating Aunt loved her meal. Portion sizes are big enough that we both had lunch the day. Friendly staff answered questions about allergy items in food and happily made a swtich for me as i have nut allergy

always crowded always great food

By ygNYC |

This is by far one of the best vegan restaurants in NYC. The food is good and affordable. The location is convenient to several subway lines. The only downside: it is nearly always crowded.

Best Vegetarian restaurant... EVER

By Amy K |

I absolutely love this place. The Wings are the best things ever!!! I've been a veggie for 22 years now and never had wings, Philly Cheese steak etc so to get all this as a veggie option is fantastic! I go to this place every time I'm in New York :)

Americanized Asian food

By Amanda B |

The food was good, but be prepared for a very American take on Asian food. The sauces were syrupy and sweet, and there is very little spice. Definitely super affordable and the service is really friendly and fast!

One of the best vegetarian restaurants in NYC

By SusanNYC_12 |

Love Red Bamboo. Lots of different dishes to choose from; different cuisines. Everything we've had has been delicious. My favorite is the Bamburger. Desserts have been yummy too.

AMAZING !!!!

By G3617URashleym |

Reasonable prices!!! Super great food! So healthy and large portions. Great staff and inside a great atmosphere!!! I would HIGHLY recommend. I loved the portobello mushroom dish. The other picture is the bamboo curry chicken.

Excellent vegetarian food!

By jewelonthejames |

Dear non-vegetarians, do not be afraid of this fabulous vegetarian place. It's super good! I've always thought mock meats were gross, but the "chik'n nuggets" here are insanely delicious. My picky 9-year-old son would never know that these aren't real chicken nuggets. The portion is huge - my friend ordered them for appetizer, and she was stuffed before our entrees arrived. I had the veggie lo mein for entree - it was great. Can't remember what I ordered for appetizer, but I do remember that all the food we had here was superb. One of the best restaurants we tried this trip.

Amazing vegan food

By Barbara K |

You won't believe you're not eating meat. Great service, extensive menu. We shared appetizers. The bbq "chicken wings" were amazing. Texture like real chicken. Dumplings and 'crab' Rangoon also good. Main courses were all real good. I had coconut 'chicken' with pineapple. Crust was delicious. Desserts also great. Chocolate cake was one of the best I ever had. I

Small But Flavorful!

By Jaybar5 |

This place was great. Friend and I picked this last minute and as a walk-in we had to wait about 30 minutes before getting a table but so worth it and not bad compared to the other places boasting at least an hour wait. The place only has about 10 tables but the turn around time for food is fast. They have a lot of options that both vegans and meat-eaters can enjoy although everything is vegan. It is a bit hidden but well worth a visit if youre in the west village. We had dessert, 2 appetizers and 2 entrees for under $50. Will definitely be going again.

great vegi chicken nuggets

tasty. simple. great. try the sachuan beef. its good. the service was good it was a good surprise !!

Very comforting vegan comfort food

By Willow M |

My partner and I had a very difficult time finding vegan options during our stay in NYC; luckily Red Bamboo was there for us. We sat down for a much needed pick me up on a late Sunday afternoon, and were almost immediately seated despite a pretty packed house. Food was very tasty, especially the decadent chocolate cake we had for dessert.

Wouldn't Recommend in Summer

By Tayla Marie |

There was no AC when we went and couldn't enjoy the food as much because it was so hot in there. The vibe was okay and the food wasn't bad for their vegan selection.

Amazing food for Vegans, awesome for meat eater

By Karolina L |

I stopped eating meat over 10 years ago, for ethical reasons, not because I didn't like the taste of meat. Red Bamboo is that place I go to when I'm not looking for anything extremely healthy or light. The food here is more "heavy". Their "Barbecue Buffalo Wings" and their "Creole Soul Chicken" are amazingly delicious. Brought many non Veg. people here and they were all shocked how good Veg. food can be. They serve large portions and so you'll leave either stuffed or with takeout in your hand. Definitely one of my favorite Veg. restaurants in the city. Did I mention their amazing "Southern Fried Chicken"?

A must

By Melissa S |

I always have to stop here when I visit New York. It's a small place so come in between the lunch and dinner rush. The staff is super when you have questions about allergens or for people new to vegan food.

Veg food so good, even omnivores will love it

By Philotes1007 |

I've been here on several occasions with vegetarian friends and always had a delicious meal. The cute cozy atmosphere and great location put it over the top as a dinner destination. Save room for the vegan pies, they're amazing.

Delicious delights for Vegetarians!

By Sammi C |

Loved this little gem in NYC!! Very pretty and inviting. Ordered the Garlic Fried Rice ($5.95 with white rice) and it was sooo tasty. Portion was large enough for two to share. My friends ordered the Bamburger & the Teriyaki Veggie Stir Fry and found them to be wonderful. Sides of Sweet Potato Fries, Collard Greens with Vegan Ham and delicious beverages made this a meal to be remembered!

Menu Amazing, #1 Rated & Recommended Soy Barbeque Buffalo Wings Were Inedible

By weinsteinemail |

So disappointed. Told by nearby diners Soy Barbeque Buffalo Wings tastes like chicken. IT DOES NOT TASTE LIKE CHICKEN. It had a prefabricated look and taste. Wing Sauce was good (Blue Cheese dip tasted like bland slop) but texture of "Wings" was like biting into a dense spongy material. I ate 1 1/2 just because I hadn't eaten practically anything all day. My friend had tasty vegetables and noodles but again did not like there taste or texture of the chicken component in the Teriyaki Chicken Bowl. I will try it again, but so disappointed especially since my exceptional only other vegan dining experience at VSpot. Start of week 5 as 100% dietary vegan

Great Vegetarian Food

By skormama |

Despite the very long wait (because this place is VERY small...and they did a very poor job of estimating the length of the wait), we thoroughly enjoyed the food. The chicken wings are a great appetizer and the sesame was a hit for the entrees (just like a place near home). The Peanut Butter Heaven pie was truly heavenly. Hard to believe it was vegan! Just wish they took reservations or did call ahead.

'My 1st time giving this spot a shot'

By Chris B |

My lovely girlfriend recommended the restaurant spontaneously. I was a little apprehensive. I had my heart set on going somewhere else. I am glad I tried the 'Red Bamboo'. I had a their 'soy Steak Burger w/ fries'. The food was delicious. The atmosphere was wonderful. The service was nothing to complain about. I was impressed with the $$$. I look forward in returning to 'Bamboo'

Small place at the Village in NY, the menu has a lot of options and also a lot of ecological types of beer. The plates are delicious, and the personal very nice. A great place to eat healthy. Been there few times and always be back.

THE best vegan restaurant!!

By Eva R |

I went to the Red bamboo with my mom, her boyfriend and my stepbrother. Everyone except my stepbrother knew that it was a fully vegan restaurant. I got the steamed dumplings and the bbq ribs which were soooo yummy!!! My mother had the chicken wings and my stepbrother something with soy beef I guess. I am vegan which is why we went to the restaurant and when my stepbrother tried some of my mothers chicken wings he said “OMG this is soo good!!” He had the same reaction as he tried his soy beef sandwich!! So when I asked my mother to try one of her chicken wings he was really confused and wondered if I started eating meat again. I think this is a perfect explanation for why this restaurant is soo amazing!! I haven’t had meat for almost 4 years now and the “fake meat” at red bamboo did taste like “real meat” not only to me but for everyone I went with!! The fact that the employees are really friendly is just the perfect toping! As soon as I return to NY I will go there more than once! That’s for sure

Still the best!!!!!!

By Jasonleg |

I come here regularly but it was my first time to try the vegan coffee shake and it was awesome. It made me feel like when I was a child and always ordered a shake with my food. Perfect match Veggie burger with vegan cheese and a shake. Service awesome as ever. Love this place!!

Just meh all around

I'd been meaning to check this place out for a while and finally had a chance to for dinner when the family came up to visit. We aren't vegetarians but tend to eat at a lot of vegan/vegetarian places. The menu is pretty standard (most veg places tend to be Asian) with some Southern dishes thrown in. In terms of variety, I wanted to order something I couldn't make at home (being Asian, stir fries are a 4x a week dinner for me) and actually didn't have many options. At the table, we had the fried dumpings, red curry tofu (they were nice enough to fry the tofu, per request), sweet and sour soy chicken, and chili seitan sandwich. Seeing the Buffalo wings on the table next to us, we opted for the same (I noticed that seemed to be start a domino effect as the next 5 tables who followed did the same). I enjoyed the sweet buffalo sauce with the slight kick and thought the soy chicken was cooked well. I also appreciated the fact that they included a small wooden skewer/dowel in the center of each "wing" to simulate the bone. My chili seitan wasn't bad. True to the warning that it'd be hard to eat, the top bread (barely toasted) remained crispy, and the bottom slice was completely soggy and nearly disintegrated. The other dishes - curry, sweet and sour - were pretty standard (not very flavorful but not completely tasteless). The dumplings were just okay. The wait staff was initially friendly and welcoming but over the course of the meal, became quite inattentive. After ordering, we waited 10 mins and had to ask two different people to get a root beer we'd ordered. Then, we again had to ask multiple people and wait quite a bit to get a takeout container to wrap up some leftovers (part of the issue was being unable to find/flag down our waiter in the tiny restaurant). Lastly, getting and paying the check took way longer than it should have. Overall, with the abundance of vegetarian restaurants in the city, e won't be back. Delicious

By MKK11887 |

I'm not a vegan and I could not tell that I was not eating meat. Everyone talks about the BBQ wings so we tried them, they were good but I'm from Buffalo so wings are our thing. I liked the cajun fried shrimp better, I could eat that everyday! It was extremely hard to choose our meals, their menu is extensive but everything we had was fantastic, including the butter pecan ice cream and coconut cake. We went later on a Saturday night and it was almost an hour wait. They take your # so you can leave, and it's easy to waste time in this area, Washington Sq park is not far and there are a ton of bars that you can stop in to have a drink. I have to go back because there are so many things on their menu I have to try.

Super great place to eat

By Tim |

Super great food here! The sweet an sour chicken was fantastic. The creole soul chicken was awesome too. But the best part of this place is the sensational milk shakes. The service by Elissa was excellent. She was so friendly and helpful.

Vegan Love Affair <3

By HP N |

Red Bamboo was not one of those on again off again relationships. It was a love affair. The temptation to indulge each night on the delectable delights at the Red Bamboo was impossible to ignore. The allure of comfort vegan food for the soul was undeniable. Each night I was in the Big Apple, my desire to dine with my new belle was unquenchable. So, if you're in the Big Apple and looking for love, the Red Bamboo is the place to find it!!

Plenty of Options

By sailor |

Been coming here on my last couple of visits to NYC. The food is very good, and even satisfied a very picky meat eater that I came with the first time. I recommend the crab rangoon as a starter. My only gripe is that they use so many soy-based fake meats. There are a lot of soy-free vegan proteins available (like pea protein) that I hope they introduce in their menu soon. Service is great and friendly. The restaurant is a few steps down from street level so it feels kinda dark, warm, and cozy inside.

Wonderful vegan restaurant in NYC

By Swami A |

The restaurant is subtitled "vegan comfort food." That says it all. With so many options, there will be something here to make your tongue and your tummy very comfortable. The menu is huge, the food is delicious, the service is friendly and attentive. I look forward to going back. P.S. My friend is gluten-free and they brought him a special menu.

Famous vegan place with large selection

By agnes9971 |

The place is not too big and simple. This my issue with most vegan places. They are sparsely furnished and more like take out places. The food selection is huge and delicious. I tried the chicken with coconut and it's crunchy, delicious and tasty. Cashew chicken is also out of this world. Vegan ice cream like butter pecan is highly recommended. Overall this is a famous and highly recommended vegan place and a must try.

Best veggie restaurant in the world

By Jasonleg |

I love this place and whenever I am in the city I have to visit it. This time ordered the Mac’n’cheese with veggie bacon. It was one of the best meals and the veggie bacon which I have had before on the burger is scarily delicious! Had to have a dessert and got the Oreo Cookie Cheesecake! Super delicious! Great service and another memorable experience.

Vegan Paradise

By annsnelly |

This place is a vegan’s dream. Nobody else in my family is vegan, although they eat plant based regularly and appreciate vegan food, and they also loved the food. The chick’n dishes were especially good. The menu is SO LONG that it’s hard to choose what to get. Guess I’ll have to go back next time I’m in the area. Only downside was that the service wasn’t fantastic and the staff didn’t seem to be very friendly, just kinda rushed and unenthusiastic even though it didn’t seem all that busy when I went.

Best Vegan Restaurant in NYC

By Y3bug |

I looked online and found this restaurant to have a 4.5 rating. The reviews looked good and we decided to eat here. There was a long wait, they take no reservations and when we walked in we were told that there would be an hours wait, this is acceptable as we ere a party of 7. The wait was worth it. We ordered Buffalo chicken wings, pop corn shrimp and Roti Canai for starters. We were amazed at how good the shrimps tasted. My party had one Vegan and one vegetarian. the rest of them could not believe it was not meat. We ordered Vegan Wine [Red] by the bottle and ordered 7 different entrees. We could not believe the portions and the taste. The portions were big and the food was yummy. Will go here again and again if i am here in NYC. Truly amazing experience all for $200 with tips!! beat that!! Don't forget to get their desserts!!

Elegant vegan

By Lucy P |

This restaurant serves vegan food in a most elegant way. I like going to places that serve healthy food without drawing a lot of attention to it. It's a small place which was full on a Sunday evening but didn't feel crowded. There were families with small children as well as couples apparently on dates. Lots of choices on the menu.

Great experience all round

By Marina B |

Loved this place. Came here for lunch and ordered the popcorn 'shrimp' and the fried 'chicken'. I didn't anticipate how huge the portion sizes were but it meant I had some take away dinner. Food tasted amazing and was very reasonably priced. Staff were very friendly too. Vegetarians, vegans and even omnivores will enjoy this place.

Excellent Vegan Restaurant with lots of options

By Angie B |

This is a small restaurant that doesn't take reservations, so just come prepared for a little wait. It is worth it. We enjoyed the broccoli/sweet potato tempura, spinach dumplings, and collard green spring rolls - all very good. But best of all - the vegan desserts.

Excelent Dinner

By Martin R |

We had an excellent dinner there. The staff was very nice and friendly. I would recommend the Red Bamboo without any limitation.

Unbelievable vegetarian food!

By 1984jessm |

This place rated highly for veggie places in NY. They basically mimic good old fashioned meals with veggie alternatives. We came here for lunch and I'm so glad we did! It's quite a small place down some steps. We didn't book but had no issues getting in for lunch. I'm not sure if this would be the same for dinner? I had the BBQ 'Ribs' and my boyfriend had the Bourbon 'chicken'. Both meals were a good size and tasted absolutely delicious. We each had a drink, which cost almost the same as the meal itself. It was quite far out from where we were staying so we only went once, but I want to go back so I can eventually try everything on the menu! Bit far from London though........please consider opening one up over here! It's in such a lovely part of NY, so make sure you take some time to explore the surrounding area.

Love love love this place!!!

By missmanik |

This place has the most incredible, mind blowing food ever! From the buffalo chicken wings (my favourite) to bourbon chicken and the mango chicken. I found this place a week ago and I’ve been here twice already (and I live in jersey shore )

A vegetarian restaurant for non-vegetarians.

By ADH8815 |

I never miss an opportunity to dine at Red Bamboo when in NYC. It is a small establishment so tables are limited. It is so worth the wait. Try anything on the menu, you will be amazed!

Hands down, best vegan food in NYC

By Joram S |

We had starters, main course and desert. One dish was better than the other and the staff were very kind, nice and helpful. They have such tasty substitutes for dairy, it was just great. In the end we hadn’t payed much, our stomachs were full and we were all in a good mood. Thanks to the team!

The number of options was mindblowing

By Maaritin |

They had a very wide (vegan) menu, all kinds of dishes with all kinds of fake meats, I chose the mango "chicken", and my hubby had the "ribs". And for dessert a fantastic "cheese"cake. I have been dreaming of the portions a lot since visiting Red Bamboo. I recommend a table reservation, we waited 25 minutes for a table.

Veggie Heaven

By Melina R |

This restaurant is 100 percent vegetarian with an extensive menu. The buffalo wings appetizer is the absolute best and leaves you wanting more. The entrees are very creative but very delicious. You may have to wait a while for an available table due to the small amount of space. Dining can be cramped here. This restaurant is on a basement level and unaccessible for wheelchairs. The soy ice cream and vegan Apple pie is worth trying so save room. I had the pleasure of meeting Jade the owner who is simply the icing on the cake for this fine restaurant.

Great vegan options!

By jenknits |

I am always excited to find vegan restaurants! I went with a former vegan for lunch who picked/ recommended this place. I am glad she did! The menu offers many options (not only Thai; I thought I read somewhere Thai was attached to their name, but perhaps I was dreaming), including a list of deserts! I had a shrimp appetizer (forgot which one) which was fantastic & a peanut butter chocolate gf cake for desert that was wonderful! I had the sausage sliders, and they were bland. I would not recommend them. My friend cornered the same shrimp appetizer, the bamburger — which she says she always gets — and a slice of of the cheesecakes they had for desert. As with most NYC restaurants, it’s cozy. There was a wait for lunch (the week between Christmas & New Year’s). I look forward to & planning on going again, but will not order the sausage sliders....

Vegan Paradise

By charndram |

This place has incredible vegan comfort foods. Whether you’re in the mood for fried “chicken” or incredible Asian inspired dishes, this place has it all! Oh, and it’s all delicious!

If you're a vegan this is a MUST in NYC

By Daniel G |

I made an effort to visit Red Bamboo after reading the testimonials on here. I could not have been happier. As a relatively new vegan (6months) I am already used to having limited choices when looking at a menu so upon sitting down I was overwhelmed with this great choices. The staff were fortunately patient when I was forced them to come back at least twice to give me more time to choose. The rules are simple.. get the Wings. From there on... you can't go wrong.

Deceptively delightful

By jeanlucs_opinion |

The chefs at red bamboo will trick your tastebuds into thinking you are not in fact at a vegan restaurant. The options are numerous and our choices were chicken wings, chicken parm and bbq ribs. All of these were delish and the chicken parm hero not only tasted exactly like a very good chicken parm but was huge as well. The portions are very generous and excellent value for money. The best for me had to be the coffee shake. I’ll definitely be back here to try the other options.

Lovely Vegan Restaurant

By Gary T |

Very close to Washington Square, and I just stumbled across it one lunchtime. Great lunch offers and the vegan mango chicken was absolutely gorgeous - looking round the busy little restaurant all the food looked really tasty!! The waitresses were also very good - enjoyed it.

Best Vegan Comfort Food I've EVER tried

By Chrichrilove |

My brother and sister-in-law invited us here and boy oh boy was the food good!! The "fried chicken" and "cheesecake" was to die for! I could not believe this food was vegan. I was in awe because it tasted like the real deal. I totally recommend! The only con of this place was the location... It's tiny and the bathroom is not spotless (which is my standard for restaurant bathrooms). Also the area is not that great but I still think it's worth coming here for the food! even though the place is tiny, It's still sleek and modern looking.

Great choice of veggie food

By chandni k |

I accidentally stumbled upon this veggie restaurant and was plese toy surprised at the choice ... Being veggie normally only have a couple of items to chose from when presented with the whole menu I was stumped. The mango chicken came recommends I have say it was a good but I personally found it a little sweet and think it could have done with some chill to counterbalance the sweetness.

Great Vegan fare

By AZD2210 |

Being vegan for 12yrs has gotten easier but Red Bamboo has been in this location for many years and it’s always consistent and yummy! The appetizer shrimp and wings are a must!!! Careful, not everything is vegan!

Good substitute for real meat!

By dahokolomok |

As a non-vegetarian, I came to this restaurant somewhat curious. The menu reads like a normal carnivore restaurant - seafood, beef, chicken, etc. But the speciality here, of course, is that all the "meats" are actually mock meat, made from vegetarian substitutes (and flavoured to taste like meat). I have to say, although the texture of the mock meats were definitely not like the original, the look and flavour were not too bad a replication of the real thing. The portions are big, so a meal at Red Bamboo is definitely good value for money. The restaurant is a bit shabby though - on the cheap end, so good for a casual meal with good friends. Not so much for a date.

Vegan Restaurant

By Elsy R |

So I was vegan for a year and this restaurant made the transition really easy. If you not vegan you should definitely try it. My favorite dish is the bbq ribs, yeah RIBS! Is hard to believe they have that but trust me it taste delicious. I also love the sweet and sour chicken.

Service not so great

By Karen P |

We had 3 in our party, they only had a table for 2. We were fine sitting at the table for 2. We asked to sit together so they let us sit there. Very nice. Then it was like we were being ignored. We had to ask for menus. We had no idea who our server was. We had to ask for our drinks. We completely felt like we were bothering them. Pumpkin cheesecake was good. But that is all I can say.

the best buffalo wings I've ever eaten

By larapoulain |

this is legit the best vegan place in all of NYC/Brooklyn. if my sightseeing/exploring plans allowed it, I would eat there 3 times a day. the buffalo wings transport me straight into heaven, I wish I could talk about other meals too but the wings were so good I have to eat them every single time I go there. I believe it's seitan "fake meat", wrapped around a wooden stick and covered in a ranch sauce that is just not from this earth. it is listed as side dish but for a single traveler it's a full meal or you can add something small like Edamame. they do offer a big variety of other meals too though, vegan spare ribs and asian influenced cuisine.

Great as always!

By J D |

The biggest problem with this restaurant is trying to decide what to have! As a vegetarian, I'm used to having just a few choices... it's amazing to know I can order anything on this extensive menu. From all veggie meals to mock meat, there's something for everyone here, and everything I've ever tried was great.

Pleasant surprise

By grapess80 |

My sister suggested this restaurant because it was close to a theater we were attending a play for. I love that they serve beer. I ordered the Portobello sandwich with dairy cheese and my sister ordered the chicken parmigiana sandwich with vegan cheese. Both meals were excellent. Although this restaurant is small, we were seated right away and served quickly. The noise level is very low. Great experience!

**A must if you are vegan**

By Jat |

I mean WOW.... Red bamboo needs to come to the uk!!! The restaurant is a small cosy place, as with all good food in NYC you may be have to wait to tuck in! Lucky we were ok but you could see some people waited to be seated. The staff are very helpful and the food was out of this world! Buffalo wings are a must, a favourite apparently and I can see why!! we went to this place twice during our stay trying different things and each time amazing ourself the deserts on offer are fab too.. a must if you are vegan!!!

Amazing food and service!

By godofchicken |

We knew 'Red Bamboo' would be good when we saw it was packed out on a Monday night! The friendly staff promised us a ten-minute wait and they were dead on the money. The food was heavenly. As a vegetarian through ethical choice, I miss the flavour and texture of meat, and the fried 'chicken' delivered - my wife thoroughly enjoyed the sweet and sour as well, and the service was amazingly fast, especially as the place was full to the rafters. I could not recommend 'Red Bamboo' more highly.

Yummy Vegan Food!

By Mankducati |

This is an all Vegan, Vegetarian restaurant. It's quite small but it's quaint. The staff are very nice and helpful. The menu, well I had such a difficult time making a choice do to so many awesome vegan options. I finally chose the steamed dumplings as the appetizer, the steak burger as my entrée and the red velvet cake for desert and all three were fantastic. The flavors were just perfect. I really enjoyed this place. If you're looking for a new vegan/vegetarian spot to try, this is a great option.

More than incredible

By SB |

Welp, this place is mind-blowing. My sister and I -- and our very, very meat-eating partners -- all came for a late dinner one Saturday night. At 10PM it was packed, so we went to get a drink at Charlie Bird (also highly highly recommended) while we waited. I had the southern fried chicken. I don't even really remember what other people got because I was so enamored with my food. But we couldn't stop raving about it the entire time. Please go here. It was absolutely the best fake meat I've ever had - and my favorite restaurant in D.C. is a place where, in that review, I said it was the best fake meat I've ever had. So interpret that appropriately. It's also in a fun area with lots of comedy shows and other entertainment nearby.

Amazing Delicious 100% Vegan Restaurant in the heart of “the village”

By Sara |

My dad and I were visiting Manhattan and were exploring the West Village and got hungry and googled ‘Vegan restaurants near me’ and this restaurant, Red Bamboo, came up and sounded just right! It has quickly become one of my favorite places to eat at while visiting/staying in Manhattan. Our go-to spot for a healthy, satisfying meal while staying in Manhattan. Located very close to NYU and Washington Square Park, in the heart of “the village”, and conveniently near subway and bus stops, it is always nearby and convenient to stop at. I love that the menu is 100% plant based and both delicious and dietary-friendly, with options that work for different preferences and needs. Everything is fresh, flavorful, and made in a way that feels both wholesome and convenient. The menu is fresh, flavorful, and dietary-friendly, with options that work for many different preferences and needs. Every dish is prepared, handled, and served with such thought, care, and respect--you can truly taste and feel the difference in the quality. The employees are always kind, patient, and knowledgeable, which makes every visit such a positive experience. They take the time to answer questions and help guide choices, and it really shows how much pride they have in both the food and the people they're serving. I am an extremely picky eater and rarely find places where I feel comfortable eating. Yet here, I can always count on my go-to order of macaroni and cheese with broccoli and a bowl of chocolate ice cream for dessert--all vegan, and absolutely delicious. It means a lot to have a place that is so accommodating to food allergies, sensitivities, and aversions, while still making the meal feel special. This restaurant has plenty of vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options. Most of the meals are easy to eat on the go without sacrificing nutrition, quality, or flavor. That's why I think this restaurant would do incredibly well with a location at JFK Airport and/or LaGuardia Airport. Travelers are always looking for something quick, wholesome, and portable--and this concept is the perfect match. I travel often and always have a hard time finding healthy, wholesome, reasonable, and dietary friendly food options in the airport. Red Bamboo is my go-to choice while visiting Manhattan and I really hope/wish/pray that Red Bamboo will consider opening a location at JFK and/or LaGuardia airport. I will be your #1 customer--frequent flier. Travelers are looking for an easy to eat, healthy meal options and Red Bamboo is the perfect food establishment. Until a location in JFK and/or LaGuardia airport opens up, my dad and I will keep coming back regularly to Red Bamboo in West Village. We're so grateful to have such a thoughtful, healthy, and welcoming spot. Thank You!!! Love, Sara (daughter) and Afshin (dad)

You will be convinced!

By Aladdin40 |

As a meat eater with a husband who is a vegetarian, this was quite the experience. I was a bit hesitant at first not being convinced that vegetarian food could possibly taste like meat when it came to texture and taste. I was wrong. The "fried shrimp" actually tasted like shrimp with exactly the same texture, same went with their "cajun chicken" and "chicken wings". The Sauces definitely helped with this which were delicious and as a foodie, I was blown away. Go experience this, and you will never look at Vegan food the same again!

We came back the next day!

By Claire F |

We absolutely loved this restaurant. I'm not sure I've ever struggled to pick a meal so much since turning vegetarian. Everything sounded so tasty! We both found the vegan meats to be some of the best we've ever had and served with very tasty sauces and sides. The portions are enormous and affordable (about $14 for an entree, in Manhattan!) and the appetizers are super tasty too. Highly recommended. Oh and we couldn't manage dessert but the table next to us had some vegan cheesecake and it looked amazing!

If I only lived in NYC year round

By Robin H |

I just ate at this amazing "vegan comfort food" restaurant. To say that even a meat eater will find amazing food like "pork chops" with "bacon" collards and mashed potatoes with gravy. I started with "chicken" satay and that was a fun appetizer. Please go here if you live in NYC or visit. It is in the Village and is easy to find and enjoy. The staff was lovely and called me for my table for one (in NYC on business) while I sat nearby having a drink in a local bar. I wish they had a cookbook!

This is the future !

By cLana6 |

Amazing experience !! So this a vegetarian/vegan restaurant which offers a menu with "fake meats" made with soy mainly. As a vegetarian myself, I was so happy to find a place where I could order literally anything on the menu ! I don't really miss the taste of meat, so I ordered an eggplant parmigiana which was really good But this place is really great for anyone not wanting to eat meat, but at the same time really carving for the taste of meat ! My boyfriend took the "pork ribs", and really YOU COULD NOT TELL IT WAS NOT MEAT ! My boyfriend is far from being a vegetarian but really he loved it !! He even wanted to return there another time ! Alos, reaaaaally cheap for the portion you get ! So really, vegetarian, vegan or not , please go there for a meal, you won't be disappointed I swear , and you will not believe how good it is!

Not fresh food, relies heavily on processed mock meats

By MsMitford |

I am genuinely baffled at the glowing reviews here. I've never eaten such sub-par food in a restaurant, nevermind a veggie one! The inside was buzzing when I arrived, but the decor was cheerless, lacking in personality. It felt like a stop-gap, temporary unit for a restaurant. Don't be fooled by appearances I told myself as I took my seat. After browsing the extensive menu, I chose the tempura vegetables, as everything on the menu was dominated by heavily processed, mock meats. A bowl of brown battered pieces thrown half heartedly on wilted iceberg lettuce arrived. Presentation obviously not a strong point, but the taste would be the real test. Well, the batter on the vegetables does a disservice to actual tempura batter, it was stodgy and heavy, and when bitten into, revealed, soggy, tasteless veg beneath. I ordered sweet potato fries, which when they came out, were undercooked, and obviously bought in frozen. I sent them back. The second time round they took a while to arrive and were lukewarm and floppy, gross. I asked for them to be taken off my bill as it was insulting to serve them like this and expect payment. I wasn't asked if my meal was ok when the food was taken away, the pile of half eaten veg ignored. I noticed other diners leaving half full plates behind also. The kitchen doesn't obviously know how to prepare food that isn't bought in a bag. Shame that people visiting here are fooled by the positive Tripadvisor reviews. If you like fresh food, there's some lovely places that offer veggie options along MacDougal Street. Positives: the hostess was very friendly and accommodating.

Consistently Delicious

By Chililizzy |

We're a vegan family - adults and kids - and whenever we travel to NYC we make a stop at Red Bamboo. It's a cozy spot with an incredible eclectic menu of vegan comfort food, fair prices and great waitstaff. With so many unique vegan options it's hard to choose - but everything we've chosen has been the right choice!

Amazing

By Greg T |

Amazing food. Cheap. Great service. A must go. Even meat eaters would be bluffed away, especially any "chicken" food. The chicken cajun was so tasty!

Fantastic Vegan Food

By ACD323 |

The outside doesn't look all that enticing, but the interior is cute and welcoming. They specialize in vegan food that is all done very well. It is similar to the food that it is imitating and very tasty. I recommend for both vegans and non-vegans.

INCREDIBLE!!!

By TaryninSeattle |

This place is AMAZING! It is tiny, but totally worth the wait. The buffalo chicken wings are heaven. If I die someday, I hope I am buried with them. If I am on deathrow, it would be my last meal. If someone ever proposes to me, I hope it is over these wings. This place is GREAT. Also, the Indian food is great.

Brilliant food!!

By aman Singh |

Visitors here from the UK during our New York holiday, had heard very good things about this place, and it didn't disappoint!! It's a small intimate place, full of friendly staff and customers. We ended up having a lovely chat with some New Yorkers either side of our table! The food is amazing the first problem is what to eat, so many choices!!! The buffalo wings are a must, a favourite apparently and I can see why!! The portion sizes are big and great value for NYC. Even got to meet the owner Phillip a lovely chap!!

Awesome

By Ewisdom43 |

This is the best Vegan restaurant I've been to. I love this place. The chicken parmigiana and the eggplant parmigiana is my favorite dishes

Great Vegan Chinese Food

By acutlc |

We went for dinner and got the only vacant table, it's a very busy little restaurant. We shared the zucchini and tofu and sweet potato and broccoli all were tempura, and the black bean vegie stir fry with brown rice. Service was fast, food came out fast and was absolutely delicious, we also had a glass of Malbec which had a nice body of flavour. Can highly recommend.

Awesome place

By Ronnie F |

Visited from Scotland in september, food was awesome and staff were chatty and friendly. A must for vegans visiting NYC.

Great vegetarian food!

By cassarass77 |

The best vegetarian food in the city. Kind of a small place but the food is fabulous! Plenty of options for everyone.

Outstanding vegan restaurant

By joeylloyd |

I was so excited to see a fully vegan restaurant in NYC and this place did not disappoint. We walked in with no reservation, the service was quick, friendly and attentive and the food was excellent. I had the creole chicken and BBQ ribs, both delicious; the garlic mashed potato with the ribs was a particular highlight. Something I loved about this restaurant was as soon as you are seated the server brings water to the table without being asked. I will definitely be coming back to this place on my next trip to NY.

Very average food

By Nata S |

Menu was had a lot of different options and it was hard to choose. the food itself was very average. Friendly staff.

Excellent veggie (vegan) place

By Paul |

The first vegetarian restaurant I’ve found in Manhattan. Most places don’t have a single dish let alone a full menu like RB. Food was excellent - you get a lot of it and decent quality. Drinks were also great with table water provided without needing to ask. Good value with reasonably priced dishes. Excellent service from both staff. I would highly recommend.

Out of This World Vegan Dining

By Larry P |

We happened upon this delightful restaurant when we walking in Greenwich Village. It is terrific! We had the very tasty Teriyaki Chicken Bowl and the satisfying Dante's Cuisine. We got a Greek Salad and an order of Ginger Chicken Fried Rice to take home for another meal. It's not very large, but very pleasant and inviting.

Tastiest Vegan Food Downtown

By Urbntraveler101 |

The food is so delicious! Incredibly flavorful for vegan food. I've gone with meat eaters who find the food delicious and very satisfying. I wish they would take reservations though. There's often a long wait if you're with more than two people. They also need to update their prices online because they do no reflect the menu prices at the restaurant.

Amazing food, even when you are not vegan or vegetarian

By Maxime Staphorst |

Every time I visit New York I try to come here. The food is amazing, I have tried many different dishes and I could hardly tell the 'meat' wasn't real meat, it tastes and often looks just like the 'real thing'! Staff is friendly, the restaurant is really small, so either make a reservation or be prepared to wait a little. (Washington Square is just around the corner, so a good place to wait).

Great vegan lunch!

By GuyDeMont |

Not far from Washington sq. We discovered this delicious restaurant. Great choice, some with shrimp or chicken for non vegan. Our lunch was delicious ; fresh product, hot, well presented, well seasoned & tasty. Don't be fool by the outside look of the street level half basement location. One of my best lunch of the year! We'll try to come back. Great service too !! Very busy place, plan ahead.

AWESOME!

By I. Holmes |

Thats a great place for a Vegs, the food is amazing, serving is proper and the prices are reasonable. I'm more than in love with the desserts there, and I'm not a dessert person. Im definitely going back next time I'm in NYC.

Just great!

By Gabrisacchi |

Went there as a non-vegan with a vegan friend, was prepared to set my bar low but actually truly enjoyed the cuisine! The cheesecake especially was divine and for a totally affordable price. A must!

Ultimate in vegan junk food

By Mike K |

Every time I'm in NYC I have to stop by for the buffalo wings. The rest of the offerings are good but it is the appetisers that are the best bit.

yes yes yes

By Tiffany G |

this is vegetarian paradise sister ! haha so good as well went for valentines day (they do not take reservations) had the sweet and sour chicken and bufalo wings it was outstanding! can't wait to go back !

Was excited for second visit, will never go back.

By Nicole V |

We had family in town about a year ago and went here for dinner. The food was amazing. The staff was weirdly rude and mean, but everything was so tasty that this year on our anniversary my husband and I decided to go back. What a difference, and not in a good way. When the best food on your plate is the side of steamed veggies.... the place gets crossed off the must-go-back list. (Further details- Doughy undercooked Seoul pancakes, chewy, not crispy, 'deep-fried chops' with a terrible sauce, overcooked corn. Save yourself the time and money and get some Morning Star Farms buffalo wings, and you basically have the 'Creole fried chicken'.) Maybe it was a bad night, but even so, won't be coming back. At least the staff was nicer this time around!

Delicious vegan

By HRBrown |

Delicious vegan comfort food! It is a must stop on our list of restaurants every time we go to NYC. Fried chicken is on the top of the list, but I have not had anything that I didn't like! I crave it all the time. Also, very affordable!!

Best vegan food I've ever eaten!

By tee |

We visited Red Bamboo on a Tuesday evening around 6pm in late April and were lucky enough to get a table right away. The place is small and they don't take reservations so you're best bet at getting a table seems to be by coming for an early dinner. I visited Red Bamboo with my boyfriend and brother. I myself have been vegetarian/vegan for years while my boyfriend is semi-vegetarian and my brother is a meat-eater. Both my brother and boyfriend have struggled to like vegetarian food and in particular "fake" meats, and they both loved the food we had at Red Bamboo! We ordered the popcorn chicken, popcorn shrimp and the buffalo wings as starters to share and all three of them were absolutely awesome. I had the Bamburger as my main which was a regular burger but very good. My company had the chicken gyros and a spicey stir fry with rice. We all enjoyed our meals and agreed it was the best vegetarian/vegan food we'd ever had. Would absolutely recommend this restaurant to vegetarians and meat eaters alike! The staff were also friendly though the service did feel a little bit rushed, they were quick to give us the check after we'd finished our meals and seemed a bit rushed to get our plates off the table. In their defence, this is a very popular place and they had a queue of people waiting to get a table so it's understandable they have to try to clear people out as quickly as possible.

Back again

By A-N2222222 |

So my last review discussed how hard and bad the bamburger had become - I've been back a number of times since and they've thankfully repaired it - it's soft and way better. My only complaint about red bamboo is that the vegetables depending what you order seem to be from frozen sometimes - this isn't ok for a good vegan place so hopefully they will stop that and replace with fresh

Small space, big flavor!

By MagnoliaKat |

Cultural kitchen vegan style. A vegan heaven in NYC that everyone should try. There’s a reason there are often lines out the door! A local favorite with an extensive menu. I am not a strict vegan so I asked for a recommendation. Chicken teriyaki was so good. Interesting teas and delicious desserts.

Favorite Place - and I'm Not Vegan/Veggie!

By Brenna F |

I am a consummate carnivore, but my fiancé and friend are vegetarian, and so we had an early meal at Red Bamboo on a Saturday in February. We waited a bit and shared a communal table with another group of people (we didn't know them, but became fast friends over the insanely delicious buffalo wings!). The wait and the close-quarters seating (it's a small place) were totally worth it. The appetizers are all amazing (those buffalo wings, so good!!!), and the entrees are great, too. This is a great choice for groups that have vegetarian/vegans and meat-eaters alike, as you really can't go wrong with anything!

Love This Place

By terri875 |

The menu includes many options, and dishes are very flavorful. Friendly service on both our visits. We will be back on our next NYC visit!

Dinner, dessert, whatever - a great spot to hang out with a great vibe, and better vegan food!

By Charming_Karl |

I know I have written about Red Bamboo before. But I had to write again, because now that I no longer live in NYC, when I do visit, Red Bamboo is still one of the places I seek out. Most recently, I went there with my wife and adult daughter for dessert only, before going to a movie at the IFC Center, and enjoyed it so incredibly much. Yes, they don't make the desserts in-house (those come from Vegan Treats in Bethlehem, PA), but the savory offerings, of which there are a great variety, are their creations, and they are wonderful. I know the owner/manager, and she is a lovely person - her dad, the other owner, does the cooking. Highly recommended, obviously.

Vegan/Veggie Heaven!

By Jaffacakes66 |

It is a rare treat to find a restaurant that is totally dedicated to quality Vegan/Veggie fare. A quick glance at the menu and you can relax - not a Mediterranean vegetable pasta bake in sight!! The food was very good and it was wonderful to be able to choose from a whole menu. It's small and cosy, lots of choices and some interesting beers. Worth a visit for sure.

Delicious food, but messy to eat

By problem_attic |

This place is incredible. The menu is extensive and everything on it sounded delicious so hopefully I'll get to return someday to try other items. I eventually settled for the seitan sandwich and fries. It was a good choice, the fries were so crispy and delicious and the seitan was full of flavour. The only thing is that it was pretty difficult to eat, the bread of the sandwich being regular sliced bread meant that it started to fall apart in my hands with the weight and moisture of the fillings. This would be awesome in a baguette or something instead. All in all, good trip!

Good food

By Shanese W |

The food taste like Asian cuisine and the good part no meat.. I like the flavor so this place is good to give options without meat with an Asian flair. If you go you will like it and will be going back. Customer service is good as well.

Excellent vegan food and friendly staff

By veggie86 |

We went here twice - the first time to dine in and the second time to get food to go. The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly. I highly recommend the 'chkn' satay skewers. So delicious! A must if you are vegan, but meat-eaters will not be disappointed either (the mock meats are very good).

Great Vegan in NY

By Jason G |

Had the barbecue chicken and the Crab Rangoon. Both were excellent. Is all about the texture and the flavors when recreating real meats, and they nailed both!!!

Veggie heaven!

By AshleyA445 |

This place is phenomenal. Great service right away. The menu was enormous and I had a hard time believing everything was vegetarian or vegan. The prices were correct too, especially for the city. Had the popcorn shrimp, philly cheese steak, and BBQ ribs. Everything was delicious and my boyfriend had to assure me I was not really eating any meat. Textures and tastes were spot-on. Service was incredibly friendly. Definitely a must-do any time in NYC. Can't wait to go back and try dessert!

amazing food!

By Beth |

I was in NYC on holiday with my friend who's a meat eater and she loved it as well! i had the tonkatsu, and it was SO tasty. I often get soy chicken etc so wanted to try something i'd never had before as a veggie! We also had the vegan oreo cheesecake and it was possibly the greatest dessert i've ever eaten.

Great vegan food

By Bruna S |

Super good food and atmosphere! Great service. I am a vegetarian, my friend is not. We both loved the amazing food served here. Really recommend it!

MVP of our vegan tourism trip to NYC

By James75356 |

My wife and I hit 12 vegan/vegetarian places in a week-long trip to NYC. Many were excellent, but Red Bamboo was the only one we returned to, and we actually came back another time after that. The food was generally outstanding, and prices were quite reasonable. The Southern Fried Chicken is absolutely delicious, visually incredible, and you get a huge portion. The Creole Soul Chicken, Chicken Satay, and Broccoli & Sweet Potato Tempura were all great as well. The non-dairy milkshakes were great, although they ran out of ice cream the third night we were there. Red Bamboo also has the advantages of having a decent seating capacity (critical in cold weather when other places are focused on takeout) and seating folks pretty late in the evening (kitchen closes after 11pm every night). The staff was also among the sharpest and friendliest we encountered. If I had to come up with a complaint, it would be that they do use dairy cheese as an option on a few items. Those items are marked on the menu, but we ordered one by mistake one time.

Seriously good vegan comfort food

By Tamara L |

Tons of comfort food options here - not exactly low fat but all vegan and all quite satisfying. Great desserts, too.

BBQ Buffalo Wings are Unbelievable!

By Leigh F |

I read about the barbecue buffalo wings in the other reviews and they did not disappoint! I've been a vegetarian now for 7 months and this is definitely the closest thing I've tasted to real chicken. I would go back just for those alone! The black bean ginger stir fry was also very tasty! The pulled pork sandwich was not bad but I wouldn't get it again. We also go the chocolate strawberry short cake and that was yummy too. Service was great and I'm looking forward to coming back and trying more things!

Unimaginative

By Sheena L |

I am a vegetarian and was exited at the prospect of finding a vegetarian restaurant. Having visited many before it's amazing what you can do with so many ingredients in the world to create meat imitation - this is not one of those restaurants. They have created meat dishes using one ingredient only - quorn. Quorn cooked in different ways. Grilled quorn with bbq sauce and called it ribs. Battered quorn fried and called it southern fried chicken. Worst thing is they describe it on the menu as soya. It's not soya. it's chewy quorn. Your in chewy quorn hell. Big disappointment. We ate a quarter of our food and left. Wine is also vegan which tasted bland.

Best vegetarian

By Maegan C |

Amazing food all around in a cute little west village establishment. I love brining non veggies friends to check out their extensive menu. Everyone always leaves satisfied.

Great vegetarian food

By joshuaelee |

I stopped in with my family for dinner. Busy place. Friendly service and prompt attention when we needed additional food. The menu is wonderful. I enjoyed everything I ate. I dont have a bad thing to say about the place. Great food!

Great vegetarian

By ekhr54637 |

Well worth a visit for vegetarian/vegan cuisine. Located in fantastic Greenwich Village. Asian based meny. Probably the best vegetarian restaurant I have visited. A bit loud - very busy also on a Monday night.

Loved it so much, went two days running!!...:-)

By Dizzy269 |

Amazing food, great service, we loved it so much we went two days running. Highly recommend anyone to try it. My only complaint, we live too far away from it, may have to move!!

Great Vegan/Vegetarian Dining in Greenwich Village

By RDavidRobinson |

Wow. My wife and I just took our daughter out to Red Bamboo for her birthday. A wonderful dinner. We were stunned how authentically they've managed to mimic the flavors and textures in these dishes with soy and seitan. I'm from Virginia so I know southern fried chicken, old school, and I have to tell you, this was delicious. I seriously thought they had made some sort of mistake and served me real chicken. I had a bite of my wife's ribs and they actually had a slightly buttery fatty flavor the way pork does. Mind you, being vegan isn't about eating pretend non-vegan cuisine, but it's nice once in a while to back to the old ways without falling off the wagon. The tempura was perfectly crispy/crunchy on the outside and fresh on the inside. The desserts, moist, sweet and creamy. And the organic wine they served by the glass was a wine I'm familiar with and is in fact one of my favorite modestly priced organic wines. Good beer selection too. The staff was friendly and efficient. My only complaint is that they seated the three of us at a table that was really suitable only for two and we were constantly playing Rubik's Cube during our meal until a water glass got knocked off the table, so don't let them seat you at a deuce for a party of three. (I'm sympathetic. They were crazy busy and seated us quickly.) We had: Broccoli and Sweet Potato Tempura Southern Fried Chicken (vegetarian) BBQ Ribs (vegetarian) Bourbon Jerk Chicken (vegetarian) Carrot Cake Coconut Layer Cake Can't wait to go back for my birthday.

Just OK

By PaceJapan |

Looking for a place to eat in the area and the reviews of Red Bamboo made it seem fantastic, so we went for dinner around 5pm on a Sunday evening. We were seated right away. There were patrons at nearly every table. Someone brought water and took our appetizer order. We got chicken wings and collard green rolls. They seemed okay. I ordered the quinoa and salmon, hubby got the black bean ginger stir fry and son got the ravioli. Everything was just okay. The mock salmon was ok, but honestly actual salmon would have been better. The presentation of each dish was nice. They all seemed a bit on the small side, but all agreed we were uncomfortably stuffed when we left. Maybe mock meats & seafood are more filling than actual ones? Anyway, the service was good. Water was always kept filled. No real complaints, but don't plan on ever going back. If you're a vegan or into the fake meat scene, then maybe you should try Red Bamboo.

Great Vegan Menu

By unstamper |

Strongly recommend this to anyone, not just vegans. Chicken Parm looked and tasted like a chicken cutlet.

The best vegan fried chicken 🍗!

By ModelCitizen2018 |

Great place with several vegan food options! It can get pricy if you're like us and just have to try several things on the menu. But the food will not disappoint you! The wait to be seated can be trying. I think we waited almost an hour to sit down, it was the Tuesday evening before Thanksgiving. Would certainly come back here on our next trip to NYC. We noticed a sign for their Thanksgiving dinner menu and should of cancelled our reservation at another place for Thanksgiving because the menu here was like traditional Thanksgiving food, vegan and a great price.

12 years strong still my favorite place in NYC

By carlyjgutierrez |

Red bamboo has been my favorite restaurant in NYC for the last twelve years and every single visit lives up to it. The buffalo wings are out of this world, the staff is absolutely wonderful and everything about this place exceeds all expectations. On a friday or Saturday night there might be a wait but they'll take your number and you can stroll around the village in the meantime. The hostess is always a doll and their entrees are delicious. My favorites are the creole soul chicken, steak and potatoes, and southern fried chicken. Between my husband and I it feels like we've tried everything on the menu and nothing ever disappoints. The desserts are amazing too, which they get from Vegan Treats in Bethlehem, PA.

WOAH! Best vegan/vegetarian EVER

By Thomas_and_Lucy_UK |

Okay so here goes... I'm a jealous vegetarian. Although the thought of eating a dead animal repulses me, I'm often a little bit envious of the food choices available to my carnivore boyfriend. Red Bamboo was the first time I've ever looked at a menu and been completely overwhelmed by the choices. In the end we ordered far too much food as there were so many things I've always wanted to try (like the philly cheese steak!), but that wasn't a problem as the friendly staff were more than happy to box it up for us to enjoy later on. How do they do such things with tofu - insane! Until we visit NYC again we'll be dreaming about the buffalo 'chicken' wings and waiting for one to open up in England!

How I wish this restaurant was near where we live!

By stella_luna33 |

What a find! One of those restaurants where you wish you had 3 stomachs so you could eat more. Everything was vegetarian, many things vegan, so our vegan/vegetarian family could order almost anything on the extensive menu. Lots of faux "meat" as well as vegetable-based dishes. My husband got the pulled "pork" sandwich with french fries and raved about it for hours. My daughter got the bamboo curry "chicken" and was equally enraptured. Their vegan ice cream (we got butter pecan & pistachio) was flawless. The service was friendly & prompt. A must-visit in the Village!

Unexpectedly Delicious

By AKRM |

This visit was a delicious surprise! Our daughter was the only vegan in a group of decided meat eaters. With some effort, she convinced us to try her favorite vegan restaurants in NYC. Our group of six ordered the coconut chicken, curry chicken, ribs, steak and potatoes; we all thought the dishes were fantastic! Even if you normally avoid vegan food, you will enjoy Red Bamboo!

WOW WOW WOW!!!

By Lisa A |

This place was amazing! Heard about it on the Today Show - where Russell Simmons intro Al to vegan fare!! It is truly one of the best meals I have ever had. We started with the BBQ Wings - these were by far a MUST get every time I go back! Not sure how they do it BUT delish! Then my mom and I split the "burger" and Portabello Mushroom burger - with fries - excellent - def try the Asian type foods next time and next time will be soon - if I didn't live 3 hours away it would be tonight! The only hiccup and it was not a huge deal but the service could be a bit friendlier and more attentive but don't let that stop you it won't stop me at this place!

DO NOT GO!!!

By SEP |

Indifferent staff, Zero tasting dishes, ordinary decor on the “unclean” side. They were dragging the garbage bags through the restaurant while we were eating. One employee brought his bicycle inside the restaurant... Awful place!

Not as good as we remembered, but could be take out

By skormama |

We did not dine in this time, but rather did take out to our tiny hotel room. All of those factors could have affected the experience. We recalled loving the restaurant (we've been twice before on visits to NYC), but this time was more of a let down. We'll try again though!

Best Vegetarian food ever!

By Marine F |

Amazing vegetarian food they even have vegan options its awesome!! The restaurant is small but the ambiance is fantastic. Highly recommend it.

Diverse Menu and Awesome Staff

By The Traveling Marble |

Great food and lovely space. The staff was awesome. I asked them for recommendations and they were on point. For starters, we ordered the bbq wings. I was floored because I eat with a fork (I don't like getting sauce all over my fingers). I ran into something I thought was a bone and almost freaked out!! It wasn't a bone, but rather a skewer. What?!?!? I was uber impressed. I was all in from that point on. We had some great entrees and drank Prosecco. I ordered the spicy chicken with broccoli, which was delish. I live in Bay Area. We have some vegetarian and vegan spots. However, the menu's aren't as extensive. In addition, the combinations can be lacking with regard to flavor. We ordered a starter, 2 entrees, Prosecco, and coffee for $65 (without tip). So, I totally enjoyed my experience at Red Bamboo. I will return.

Tiny place, big flavor

By SrtaLola |

Get ready to wait around. It was almost a 1.5 hour wait for a table for 2 on a Friday night, and they don’t take reservations. But the menu has so many options it’s hard to pick something. Staff is nice, food was good. Chicken satay and creole shrimp were awesome. Would go back but not on a weekend night.

Amazing vegan food

By EmJayBV |

Small but cosy and inviting. Wait staff are knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. There is a really great variety to choose from and we all enjoyed everything that we ordered. I would definitely like to return and try some more. Whether you are an adventurous eater or not, you will enjoy their food.

Love this place

By Carmiel F |

Red Bamboo has become a site of vegetarian pilgrimage for me every time I come into NY. I love the food (the vegan chicken dishes are my fav) the ambiance and the friendly staff. During lunch and dinner times it can get very loud (bad acoustics) which is why I prefer going during off hours, but if you insist on coming when it's busy, you should know there can be up to an hour wait and that reservations are only taken on site (you can't call in advance) so plan accordingly.

Great atmosphere- needs a better chef

Generic, uninteresting food, the atmosphere in the place is great, and the staff nice, you just wish for it to have a better chef.

Heaven for vegetarians and meat lovers

By Angie_unterwegs2015 |

Having been a vegetarian for over 15 years, Red Bamboo surprises me each time I am eating there! The food is fresh, delicious, tasty and the menus hold so many amazing bites ready for you, you never get tired eating there! I can totally recommend the BBQ wings! The price is totally fair for what you get on your plate!!! Even if you are not a vegetarian, you will eat super well! Have a try!!!

Much better

By A-N2222222 |

For some time the quality went down but it's recovered - the hamburger is soft again and perhaps the best veggie burger I've had that tastes like a real hamburger -

The wine was great, totally unexpected

By FritzGretl |

The food, the wine, the service, everything really good or how the waiter said: Awesome! Wir kommen noch mal solange wir in NY sind.

Amazing food!!!

Warning! Don't Purchase a Gift Card for a Friend

By ray301vegan |

Great place to eat, 5 stars in my book, BUT don't purchase a gift card. My friend bought me a RB gift card for my birthday. I called RB to inquire on how to redeem since I don't live in the area. Was told no-problem, the next time in the area just stop-by. I did today, and was told I needed an email from the purchaser in order to use the gift card. No exception. Suddenly this gift card turns into my problem. I asked they speak with the manager. They're reluctant, but coincidentally the manager happens to call in, and says she has no access to the system, so leave and come back when she's there. Wow, really? That's it? The excitement of enjoying an RB meal for my birthday, transitioned into me walking-out disappointed and empty handed.

A Revelation for Someone Used to Meat

By Ed S |

This small, vegeterian restaurant surprised me with just how tasty their dishes could be without meat. We went late on a Saturday afternoon after a matinee at the Barrow Street Theatre, and while it was crowded, we were seated right away. Based on the size of Red Bamboo, I suggest you don't go with a party larger than 4, it was lucky there were just two of us. The menu choices were extensive, and there are many cooking styles employed. Service was efficient. The place had a nice vibe. Don't be afraid to try it even if you usually eat meat as part of your main course.

Delicious vege food!

By TheDarwin101 |

I’m not a vegetarian but my wife wanted to go here. It was fantastic - especially the “chicken” satay. It’s cheap and cheerful but fairly decent. The food is good but could be higher quality. Gets busy on a Saturday and Friday but even if you’re a meat eater you’ll be happy!

It Had Been Too Long!

By ManhattanWilliam |

I hadn't ordered in a while, and forgot how delicious the food is here. I'm not 100% vegetarian BUT I could be if I had this food to eat every day. This time I ordered the CURRY WINGS and DUMPLINGS. Both were jam packed with tons of flavor and really tasted even better than if they had meat - truly. Just deliciously flavorful food - yum!

Worth the wait

By Erja |

Visited Red Bamboo 4 times, and food was always really good, not too surprising but I really appreciate their many options and all vegetarian or vegan. I tried their bamburger, spaghetti, tofu and cheeseravioli, and my favorite was spaghetti with soyballs in tomatosauce (included enough garlic, delicious!). Their vegan desserts were nice. We ordered just one piece of cake for two and it was at least enough for us. Also several flavours of vegan ice cream :) The restaurant is quite small (and noisy when it's full) and they don't take reservations, so because it's popularity you might have to wait for a table in rush hours. The food will be worth the wait.

A proper vegan treat

By martinoldgoth |

We turned up without reservation on a Saturday night and had to wait about 20 minutes but it was so worth it, the range of food offered, including vegan friendly beers and wines, is amazing and the food out of this world, as part time vegetarians we felt like something different, but our experience here has made us rethink our diets! Great service, great prices, and fantastic food!

WINGS.

By nessainky |

Wow. Holy crap. Their vegan buffalo wings were beyond anything I've ever eaten in my entire life. I've been vegan for over three years and have always missed chicken wings, so I was reasonably excited when I found these on a menu somewhere. And wow. They were beyond incredible. I also had vegan jerk ribs and a vegan root beer float here and they were amazing. Definitely one of the best vegan spots in NYC.

Vegan Paradise

Top notch high quality vegan food. Everything was delicious, there is not a bad choice on the menu. Portions generous, entrees moderately priced, servers friendly & helpful. Restaurant is small, seating and space not ample. A must go to place for vegans looking for great tasting food - varied selection from burgers, steaks to Mac & cheese & FABULOUS dessets. Can't wait to return!

Amazing food, disappointing service

By Emma I |

After wanting to check out Red Bamboo for a while, my partner and I went for a late lunch. We ordered the soul chicken sandwich and the chicken cutlet sandwich. The food was really tasty, I couldn’t believe it was vegan as it tasted like the real thing. The bread was a bit tough to chew, but overall we were left satisafied. The service however, it started off really well, but once my partner had finished his food, his plate was taken away before I had even finished and he was offered a dessert menu. The waitress came back 2 times to take a dessert order from him whilst I was still chewing my hard bread! We didn’t order more food as we enjoyed what we had had, paid our bill and left a couple of dollars tip. Whilst walking through the door, the waitress ran towards me and exclaimed that it’s recommended to pay between 15-20% of the bill in tips, did we want to leave more? I said no and she cornered me, asking why didn’t I want to give a higher tip; was something wrong? I told her I felt rushed but in all honesty I’m appalled she ran after me and cornered me like that ... not sure I will return.

Spoilt for choice!

We visited Red Bamboo 3 times on our 6 day trip to NY. Every dish we had was delicious! I thoroughly recommend the Creole Seoul Chicken and the cakes are lovely. The portions are huge and very filling. Staff very welcoming too.

Excellent Food

The food at Red Bamboo was very good. There were lots of options and everything tasted really good. The service was good.

Loved my food

By LittleTraveler22 |

I've gotten the cashew chicken twice and it's been delicious. Hearty portion of soy chicken and they give me extra veggies because I don't eat rice. The gals that work there are very nice and the food is fast. It's a favorite of mine for lunch during the week when I want a treat.

Great range of choices. The food was excellent!

What a great surprise. We were seeing music nearby and we are plant-based eaters. We found this place and were blown away by the variety of the menu items. We started by sharing the Bourbon Chicken (tasted just like grilled chicken). Then we had the Teriyaki Vegetable Stir Fry (with "beef") and the Red Curry Tofu. It was all excellent. Affordable. Tasty. Variety. We will be back. Recommended!

Awesome and I'm not a vegan not vegetarian!

My brother, who is a vegetarian, was drooling at the mention of this restaurant. Having eaten here many times on previous visits to the city, he was anxious to share this find with his family. You would not have known that the

Vegan food that anyone will appreciate

By Green1Ma |

Good affordable food in New York City. This is a small casual vegan place that has an extensive menu. My friends got the Macaroni & Cheese with Bacon. They said it was equal to the regular version. I had a red curry with tofu that was very good. My main complaint was that they brought out the orders for some of our table at least 5 minutes before mine. When mine arrived my friends were almost finished and mine was too hot to eat. This was awkward. The place had limited seating. I would plan ahead if you are a large party.

Tasty Vegetarian Food!

Service - 5 stars The employees were very friendly. Attentive, but not overbearing. Food - 4 stars The sweet and sour chicken was really good! Yum! I only wish the chicken pieces were crispy! I'll definitely order that again next time! The Creole soul chicken was yummy as well! It was battered very well. Nice and crispy! The popcorn chicken was decent. Next time we'll get two dishes of the creole soul chicken instead. The mash potatoes were really good. Tasted like real potatoes. The gravy was kind of gross. Tasted like soy sauce. Definitely not what I expected to get with my mash potatoes. Overall, I enjoyed the food and service. I would definitely eat here again.

Barbecue-Buffalo Vegan "Wings"

By deegodeego |

I went with my children, 12 and 15, vegetarian and vegan. We are constantly looking for good food without animal products. The wine list was very good. The barbecue-buffalo wings were so wonderful. The menu is vast and perhaps tries to do too many things. My kids tried the fried "chicken", sweet potato fries and collard greens and they were too bland to be considered soul food but overall the food and ambiance is very good.
