One of the best nights of our trip. Live music, exemplary service, great beer and cocktails and a chilled out atmosphere. The food was superb. The Lobster Roll, Catfish, cornbread and apple pie were amazing. Really great!!

If you do any research on where to eat in Harlem, Red Rooster will be on the top. We arrived mid afternoon on a Saturday - the place was buzzing. We were sat amongst some tight tables but enjoyed great service. We shared a chicken and waffle, and catfish (which was served on a sea of incredible black eyed peas.). With the DJ blaring and bustling tables - it was a bit too noisy for true enjoyment.

We were a group of 12 post marathon and had a brilliant night. Well organised, great food and superb music. Thanks and would really recommend

I tried this place a couple of years ago and thought maybe my experience would be better on a less busy night. Everyone was friendly, but our server was clearly high and reeked up weed. The cornbread was good. The catfish was seasoned well but the Mac and cheese was bland like last time and the black eye peas weren't good. It may just be how this area of the country cooks them. My chicken thigh was crispy on the outside but very dry on the inside. I wasn't impressed.

It was my first time dinning at Red Rooster, and it was AMAZING! the food was delicious, I had the ala carte chicken, mac n greens and cornbread, my partner had the catfish with black eyed peas. I tried it and it was delicious. We had a phenomenal server, Micheal was amazing he was courteous, food was correct, he followed up with us through out our meal to make sure we were ok. Hopefully he's working when I go back, I'll personally ask to be seated in his area. I had the opportunity to meet one of the managers also, he was great. The atmosphere was pleasant & vibatioius! The live band was cool, music wasn't too loud..oh and Kuddos to the bartender I didn't catch her name but my Long Island Ice tea's were amazing. It was the best LI I've had in awhile. OK, I'm going to end this review because I could go on and on.. I really really really did I say really enjoyed myself. What a way to kick off my vaca in NYC.. some body's gonna have some big shoes to fill.

It’s the 4th time we go to this great place with bands playing live at certain hours. Check the bands and hours on the internet. It always gets crowded most of the time and you have to make a reservation. Food is good and prices right. A super experience in New York , Harlem.

Classic Harlem food and jazz that makes you feel so welcome in a great community. The servers are helpful. The food fantastic. The jazz endless. A great experience that is a great way to spend a Sunday.

The Red Rooster was at the forefront of Harlem's new renaissance. Let's hope it remains a rebirth and not a "gentrification." It's a lovely restaurant/lounge with great jazz. Unfortunately, its popularity and omnipresence have caused Red Rooster's authenticity to suffer. It is still fun, with decent food, and the RR provides an "uptown" experience for those "downtown" folks.

Just Awesome! We arrived in Harlem before our reservation and walked around and were fortunate to hear some gospel music pouring into the streets. Went For Sunday brunch and got lucky enough to sit front and center. Harlem Sing performed and it was fantastic. The food, staff, drinks and restaurant decor were great! We were celebrating our sons birthday and they even brought him up and sang for him. Our son is in Culinary School at I.C.E. In the city and obviously a huge fan of Marcus. HE didn’t disappoint. It is what a restaurant should be. A transforming experience. Experiencing different cultures and food is what brings people together and for an hour and a half on a Sunday in Harlem we all felt like one big happy family enjoying some amazing food and wonderful music. Reservation a Must. Thank you Red Rooster! Great time and we will be back!!!

Outstanding service and food! Artist Hass onsite and also a server with the most amazing authentic Harlem clothing! A MUST to eat and meet Hass! The Mac and cheese is to die for!!

Family of four from Scotland booked for the Sunday lunch with the gospel choir. Amazing experience, good size portions, great service and show. The choir are based in Harlem and all give it a go and bring the audience in well worth attending. Hope you guys keep this up would love to come back.

Went here Sunday lunch, no reservation, but managed to get a bar table. Food was absolutely delicious, staff extremely service minded. There were live gospel in restaurant which created a very lively atmosphere, even though it was very loud.

Visited for lunch while in the area strictly based on reputation, shall return given our very positive experience. Lunch with business colleagues, we were greeted and seated upon entering by friendly and attentive staff. I enjoyed the Farmer's Remix salad and the Shrimp & Grits. Solid meal, service and atmosphere. Fully recommend

Between music and locals, the fried chicken - and even the roasted vegetables - definitely compare favorably with the always crowded (even with tourists) and cumbersome Silvya's nearby. In Harlem it's a certainty.

So I came here when this restaurant first opened almost 10 years ago. I was not impressed and never came back. I was there this past Monday for a friends Bday. Live music and great food. Food was WAY better than my first visit. I actually may start frequenting this place again. Especially on Monday with the live music. We had a great time.

I don't usually order chicken wings .... but when I do it's at the Red Rooster Harlem restaurant! Located at the corner of 125th Street and Lenox Avenue, the Red Rooster Harlem offers an urban twist on traditional southern comfort food. Conventional wisdom teaches not to order chicken at a restaurant. Conventional wisdom never visited Red Rooster where a party of three can dine on the Yard Bird Royale, a whole chicken with sides of collard greens, mac 'n' cheese, and waffles and have enough left over for a go-box. Ribs and chops are also on offer, but there is truly nothing quite like the chicken; fried and finished with a zesty honey-based glaze fusion of creole and Caribbean. And did I mention the corn bread? One bite and you will want to call your momma and ask her why she didn't love you enough to make her corn bread this good. The wait staff was superb. Every dish came exactly when it should have. Wine glasses were never empty. And everyone we met was glad we were there. The place was jammed. Reservations are a must. If you come to New York and do not have a meal at Red Rooster Harlem, then book your return trip now .... but make a reservation first.

Based on a recommendation from our tour guide on the NYC bus tour, we ventured north for the first time. To do so, we took the subway, again a first, and found using Apple Pay on our phones was slick. The restaurant is right off of a subway stop. We booked with OpenTable, arrived early, and were seated immediately near the back by the kitchen. The restaurant was a mixture of rush shadow and pockets of light. Tables were close together and the babble of many conversations was loud enough that we needed to lean into each other in order to communicate. We did not mind this and found the environment stimulating. A DJ kept the sound rolling but not in a way that was distracting. The walls were adorned with a variety of media, including posters, paintings, text, hats, and other objects. After telling the waitress that this was my first experience with ‘soul food’ and looking for guidance, she recommended the chicken and waffle. It arrived with a tangy -spicy yellow sauce form the chicken and a sweet syrup (not maple syrup) for the waffle. The chicken was juicy inside and very crispy on the outside. The skin came off in succulent chips that I could dip in the sauce. I started eating with a knife and fork but soon gave in to using my fingers, which made the experience that much better. The waffle was tasty, with a hint of cinnamon, but not remarkable outside the fact that it offered a juxtaposition to the savoury chicken. If you are looking for a lively and intimate restaurant with delicious soul food, this is the place for you. Easy to access off the subway (Red 2 or 3 line) with quick service, this is a must ‘stop’ for new travellers to New York.

Have been wanting to go for years, it was so fun and delicious. Our server was Celeste and she was lovely and gave us great reccomendations as well. We had a terrifici table for 6, were able to hear the music from the bar but still able to converse. Snacks of Deviled Eggs and Cornbread were perfect and so tasty! I had the Catfish, and the black eyed peas were amazing; they had a delish smoky flavor that was addictive. The Shrimp and Grits was also really popular at our table. The restaurant has a great vibe, long standing history and a big menu with something for everyone. Good wines and drinks menu as well - can't wait to come back next time we are in the city!

5 family members for thanksgiving. All ordered family meal, turkey etc. Food was very good. Had person try to pick pocket purse on back of seat. Be careful, lots of people just standing around so hard to identify thief. Asked for meal to go for one family member not able to attend. Asked for same meal we had and were told by waiter he included turkey and mac and cheese.and stuffing. When opened no mac and cheese. May seem small issue but member asked for mac.cheese and waiter mislead us and we paid full price for a meal that was not full price.

The ambiance is homey and welcoming for lunch at Red Rooster. We got really great menu tips from the waiters and the food was exquisite.

What a pleasure. I eat in many restaurants, some are very good, others good enough. For the most part they feel similar. Not the Rooster. I Loved the vibe here. Reall loud, alive.

Went to Red Rooster on a tues lunch with my mil and an aunt. I ordered a Harlem Special which is a 3 course meal and my mil and the aunt ordered a main course each (the yardbird and the shrimp& chips). My meatballs which was the 1st course took 30mins to come. It was nice but Super spicy for American standards. Next, the main course took another 30mins to come. We had to flag down the waiter twice to check on our food as my mil and aunt was just bored and hungry. All we kept getting was our food was on the way. We were seated next to the kitchen people who ordered after us got their food and were finished with it. After awhile I saw a chicken course sitting on the counter ignored by all the servers. I checked it again (and boy was it hard to get a attention of a waiter) and I was informed they are waiting for my salmon main course. They did not informed me they were going to serve all the main course at one go, making us wait for like 1h for our main courses?! I insisted whatever food is ready comes first and finally at least my mil got her chicken. My salmon eventually came with the shrimp&chips and they cleared our plates earlier and never came back with new utensils so I had my food but nothing to eat with. I had to flag down 2 waiters before i managed to get my utensils. After that suddenly there was a stream of waiters that kept checking in on us if the food was okay. Wow where are they when you actually need them?! One waitress did apologise for the delay but that was it. In terms of food standard my salmon was okay but the vegetables that came with it was really salty. My mil’s yardbird was pretty good but some parts of the meat was still a bit red ie not fully cooked. Dessert which was a donut was not bad but nothing special. Overall good place to try if you come Harlem but nothing special with not so ideal service.

We met friends on an early Sunday evening. The live music set an energetic vibe and the crowd was buzzing. No empty seats. We shared the Wild Wings that had a nice/rich flavor with just the right amount of spice. I tried the Bucatini pasta with seafood. It had a creamy sauce but lacking in flavor. I would select something different the next time. The Apple Pie was good...with what looked like homemade crust.

the atmosphere was lively with a DJ playing some good tunes. The drinks were were innovative. scotch w/ ginger beer was on the money. very good cornbread. my guest had the lobster roll and simply devoured it. my Steak Fritte was perfect w/ chimchurri sauce on the side. well worth the trip uptown. an express train gets you there in fifteen minutes any where in manhattan. Hats of to Chef Samuelson. Well done!

I absolutely adore Marcus Samuelsson and was excited to visit his restaurant. Food. Was. Delicious! We had one of the best burgers of our lives and the cornbread is noteworthy too. The atmosphere/decor is really nice. Servers are excellent and the chef (not Marcus...he was out of town that weekend) came out and greeted us at our table.

The bar has always had good drinks and usually good music, however, when I went back last night, the music was mediocre and the food was horrible. We ordered the pasta dish, jerk, barbecue cauliflower, wings, and collard greens. Only the collard greens met our expectations. The food was not fresh and it was formulaic. I brought a friend from Detroit where the food scene is excellent, and he was extremely disappointed. Red Rooster is a good neighborhood bar so spend your money at the bar during happy hour and on the bar menu; and that’s it. The service, as usual, was excellent.

We were ready for a great dinner, and at least my wife's two course met her expectations. My main course seemed to be short on two featured ingredients listed on the menu, although the basic bits were good. The serving folks were very nice, although our waiter forgot about us for a period; we had a long wait for a glass of wine. Our table was stuck in a corner. We may come here again, though I am not particularly enthusiastic at this point.

* of us went for dinner last Monday night. It was very lively and the service was good. Music was awesome and the vibe was terrific but we found the food lacking. One of the meals arrived very late to the table and then the rest was so so. Would recommend you go and enjoy the music and action in the bar at the front.

Fabulous atmosphere and great decor. Very tasty food. Had not been in several years. Complied with COVID protocols requiring checking of vaccination status. Had outside dining with heat lamps.

It was the four of us. The food was amazing. You get great portion with great price. The staff were attentive. We had an excellent time. I will be back in a month with my family. We plan to come eat here again.

We love dining at Red Rooster, it’s a must for us when visiting NYC. Delicious soul food and vibrating atmosphere. We started with a great Harlem Mule. Then we went for the famous chicken tower with garlic mash, shoestring fries and needless to say cornbread. The chicken was crispy and tasty, the garlic mash to die for and the cornbread soft and yummy. We were lucky to be there on a night with live music, bringing that little extra to the experience. Unfortunately there was no room for dessert since we could not stop eating the delicious chicken. Maybe next time.. We’ll definitely make sure to come back next time visiting. Love this place.

I went on a Saturday afternoon and the DJ was playing only bangers .. Caribbean beats, old school hip hop new flavors. Speaking of .. the lobster roll was EVERYTHING. So tasty and I topped it off with triamisu from heaven. Cheers to getting it all right!

Went on a Friday night with a few friends and had a blast! Highly recommend making reservation in advance as this is a busy spot. Amazing food, great service, terrific band. You can't go wrong with the crab cakes or collard greens. The ACDS Life band was on fire and kept us going with the best of R&B/Funk music until late at night. Will definitely be back!

Amazing staff and food. We experienced hospitality that was over the top twice. Can't wait to go back!

I was on holiday in NY from Italy and we were suggested from our lady guide to try this place in Harlem. I fell in love!!!! Atmosphere amazing, really feeling like the real soul food. The portion of the fried chicken were big and the food was so tasty, the presentation of the plates was good and original. I will come back for sure when in NY! really recommended

We had an excellent dinner here. Food, service and ambience were great. Highly recommend. Plus a gluten free menu. Very close to the Apollo theatre

We are very well received, the service is pleasant without excess. We listen to you and we take care to bring you the dishes at the right time. Excellent food, The Mac and Greens is amazing. You eat well in a beautiful environment. Thank you

Nice ambiance, great Thanksgiving meal away from home. We all agreed the food was awesome. No complaints. The dessert was not the best a pumpkin and pecan tart with grape jelly. It was a weird combo, but we were too stuffed to enjoy even it were great. The Glogg drink was pretty good, it was a new experience. But overall, I’d highly recommend the food and ambiance of the Red Rooster. The food on everyone’s table looked delicious as well. You can’t go wrong here!

I researched places to visit in Harlem and New York City that had a Sunday Gospel brunch. Red Rooster kept appearing. The food was delicious, the service was excellent and Sing Harlem was a perfect way to kick start a Sunday. I had the chicken and waffles. Chicken was fried perfectly with amazing flavors. Love the crisp waffle. My daughter had the spicy chicken sandwich and fries. Everyone enjoyed the music! Excellent Sunday brunch. Definitely one of the highlights of my trip.

We visited this restaurant on February 14, 2024. It was one of our best meals ever. The restaurant sat us even those we were a little late due to traffic. Our waiter was very personable and the front end manager went out of there way to provide us a unique experience. We asked about the chef owner and they came back with free gifts, a cookbook and apron.we cannot rate this dining experience better. Will definitely go back next time in the city. Alan and Janice Smith.

Having been to the London Red Rooster we decided to give the Harlem venue a try. We were looked after by Misha and I must add that she certainly added to our very wonderful experience. We had the cord bread, crispy bird sandwich and the catfish as I hadn't tried this before. All were wonderful. This was followed by a Rooster Sundae. While we dined we were entertained by Vy Higginsons Sing Harlem choir, what a marvelous group of singers. Everything about Red Rooster is classy and if I return I will certainly visit again.

Everything excellent. Super kind. Beautiful atmosphere. It was a wonderful experience together with the family.

Red Rooster Harlem located at 310 Lenox Ave, New York, NY 10027. This is a popular restaurant that was created by Celeb Chef, Marcus Samuelsson an Ethiopian-born Swedish-American celebrity chef, restaurateur and television personality. Our family decided to gather here for a celebratory meal with our college graduate, Jonathan. Of course we started off with a round of cocktails, Bloody Mary’s and Cadillac Margaritas. The items we chose were, Deviled Eggs-po’ boy hummus, sweet relish, crispy onions, chives, caper berries. I did not sample this, but my Great Niece did not like it. YEP! Chicken & Waffle-fried chicken leg, maple hot sauce, pickles. This item is off the appetizer menu which consist of, half a waffle and dark meat, I wanted a breast. The waffle is crunchy on the outside, but soft in the middle, which is really good to absorb the syrup. Pan Fried Catfish-stewed black-eyed peas, cucumber-pickled onion salad. I did sample the stewed Black Eyed Peas and they were very different. I’m not a big, black eyed pea person from the beginning, but I did not like the stewed Black Eyed Peas that were served with the fish. Mac & Greens-cheddar, parmesan, collard greens, I was able to sample this item from my nephews plate. It’s very different to have a greens inside of your macaroni and cheese, but it was very tasty. Blistered Heirloom Tomatoes-ginger-basil dressing. I sampled this item as well, it is served warm. If you are a tomato person you would like them. They grow their owe herbs that are used to garnish the drinks from the bar. They have a separate banquet room located downstairs that holds approximately 200 people for standing room or 100 people for sit down dinner. My brother said that the artwork in the restroom is, an Artist dream. On the way out the door I saw that a customer was drinking a beautiful drink in a very nice glass. I asked what it was and he told me it was called, A Pink Lady, a Grapefruit & Rosemary spritzer for those that do not drink. #redrooster #harlem #goodfirsttimeexperience #MarcusSamuelsson

No reservation but was able to gat a seat at the bar. Everything about this place is amazing. Venue, atmosphere, food, staff and service. A great night

Fine place but didn't meet up with all the hype. They made a big deal of telling the four of us we could only have the table for two hours and then 43 minutes later we were finished with cocktails and our entrees. In fact, if you want fast-food this may be a good place to come because our four entrees arrived within minutes of sitting down. The chicken was fine, but not as good as what we had the day before at Amy Ruth's, the ceasar salad was unremarkable (and I had to make two requests before I could get some additional dressing to complement what had been drizzled originally). The ceviche was interesting and hardy and the portions of catfish and seafood bricatini generous and well-prepared. Our table was in the bar, which meant two people got to look at the wall, and the other two were often josseled about by servers and patrons entering and departing. The experience reminded me of the Texas saying "all hat and no cattle."

The place is easy to find but parking is challenging and can take a little while. The menu is tight, concise and creative. The portions are generous so plan to pace yourself and enjoy the casual, vibrant, energetic and eclectic decor. Also, be sure to leave room for a piece of fried chicken; the crust and seasoning combination they achieve is unforgettably crunchy and leaves the chicken super juicy. The deviled eggs are also a must and have the perfect tang and creamy texture with a pickly little punch. The only item I would avoid is the lobster roll, although it is beautifully cut and presented with a very generous portion, it is overly mayo-loaded, under-seasoned and the result is a little bland and mushy. It is not terrible but just not as impeccable as the rest of the food. Oh, and they also make perfectly balanced, flavorful and unique cocktails that compliment and punctuate the overall experience.

Meals for a well-stocked brunch. I gave 5 stars not necessarily for the food which, for a French person, does not deserve this classification, but for everything else. The atmosphere, the impeccable service and the Gospel group. The singer is impressive, there is an energy emanating from this extraordinary show. We have adored. They involve the public, the children were delighted,

Had to try it while in NY. The service was excellent, and the food was excellent. We ordered fried chicken, which was crispy, juicy, well seasoned, and covered with spicy honey. The seafood pasta was creamy and packed with shrimp and crab. I’d definitely recommend and would visit again.

My 3 grandsons and me Met Mr.Marcus Samuelson, Red Rooster owner on 8/5/2021 on a Civil Rights walking tour. He was gracious, spoke and agreed to a group photograph. On 8/7/2021, my three grandsons and I had reservations for a birthday celebrating my twin grandsons 20th birthday at the Red Rooster restaurant in Harlem. Our experience started with professional security guard who guided us inside to the personable hostess who was super friendly-she is definitely an asset as the front of restaurant greeter. We were seated at Table 58 by Tiara R. , a fantastic, caring, professional African American woman. She even paid for mini birthday cakes for twins!!! Our food was excellent, tasteful, seasoned with care, and delivered to our table quickly and efficiently. Ms. Tiara checked on us the entire visit making sure we were comfortable and satisfied-WE WERE! She had staff to take a group picture with all of us! The soulful music made the whole vibe inside pleasurable, tapping feet, swaying to songs - an experience we Bay Area born Californians will always cherish !!! Thank you Mr.Samuelson for making our Harlem visit experience the best ever!!! Your entire staff from the front sidewalk staff to receptionist, our hostess, Tiara And., the chefs and bartenders there on Lenox Avenue I give a 10 star ⭐️ rating. And we stayed at a fantastic AirBnB (Ms. London), right across the street from your fine restaurant. We all definitely experienced the culture., legacy of civil rights greats, and business owners like you who not only lives in your community, but gives back and pays it forward, and looks like US- proud African Americans!!! Sincerely grateful, Judy Reeves and on behalf of Camarey, Corey, and Keyshawn.

I was looking forward to sampling the kitchen fixin's at Red Rooster. I stopped for lunch during the weekday and was pleasantly surprised to find the fixed menu for restaurant week ($30). I ordered a first course (sweet potato coconut soup) and second course (fried catfish with black-eyed peas). Both dishes looked appetizing and smelled great. While tasting the soup, the saltiness rang aloud but I finished it. The portion was generous and I was already a bit full before the second course arrived. The catfish was had a nice texture and I enjoyed the black-eye peas. I would love to return again and try some of the other dishes. The food is soulful with a bit of a gourmet twist.

Red Rooster is a fun place to have a meal! The chicken (Yardbird by the piece) and mashed potatoes were amazing, of course, but the standout to us was the shrimp and grits. The service was excellent!!!

Hidden germ! No wonder Barack Obama ate there. The food was delicious no matter what we ordered. The prices and portions were fair. I absolutely loved the atmosphere and vibe of the place. It also had live music.

With all the hype I expected the collards to sock me off my feet. The best thing was the cornbread, The service was good. Loved that the asked for proof of vaccination.

We went for the Sunday Brunch Buffet. For the high price you would expect decent food but the food was poor quality. The organisation was poor - you had to wait a long time. The lighting was bad so you couldn’t see what the food was. The Gospel entertainment was fun but overall I don’t think the experience was worth the $71. Per person.

Excellent food, excellent service. Love this place. Had the Bucatini Piccadilly, wich was rich in flavor and beutifully arranged. Highly recommended.

As Swedes and fans of Marcus Samuelsson we came here a Saturday evening. Both hits and misses. Lively loud atmosphere with a large bar. Excellent service by everyone - really top notch h. Food was however not on par. Cauliflower was unbalanced, bland and over cooked. Lobster roll was tasteless. Crab cakes were ok. Had we left after dinner we would not have been happy. Decided to continue at the bar. Had a couple of great drinks and talked to other guests. Left with 2 artistic aprons by the guy selling them outside. Fun evening but room for improvement.

This is a must on a Sunday. It has to be the best in New York City. The service was amazing from the time we walked in the door. There are two sittings. We took the earlier and it was packed. The fried chicken and collard greens were my favorites but it was a tie with the waffles and shrimp an grits. A special kudos to the beverage manager. The staff is well trained and so pleasant. Don’t miss this place!

Cannot recommend the Gospel Brunch highly enough. Been twice now and each time has been a joy. Incredible singers, great performances, delicious food. Really wonderful experience. Thank you!

Dinner & Jazz at the Red Rooster Fabulous Food and Excellent Service! Make a reservation. Can purchase additional tickets to the Jazz Club. Located in the heart of Harlem where Chef Marcus Samuelsson brings his passion for food to the neighborhood he calls home.

Good food and very good service! We ate the crispy chicken on a waffle and applepie for dessert. A very good liveband performed for us during the dinner.

Food was really good and ambience was outstanding, especially on a Monday night with the live music (Soul Sessions Live with Ahmaya Knoelle & Friends). Really cool vibe inside, excellent place to grab dinner or drinks in Harlem and enjoy some live music. The Yardbird by the Piece (hot honey chicken) was really, really good. Could have used a bit more heat, but exceptionally tender and well prepared. Food: 4/5 Ambience: 5/5

My little daughter and I attended a gospel mass service on Sunday - we decided to stay in Harlem and ate at Red Rooster...and what a great choice! the live performance by Latrice, the amazing service from all the bar staff, the whole restaurant and atmosphere...and of course the food! the wild wild wings were AMAZINGGG and also the rest of the food which we ordered (great amounts too!), what a nice spot in Harlem! THANK YOU!

When I was told we were going to NYC for my birthday and asked where I wanted to eat, without hesitation I said "Red Rooster". When we arrived, we were promptly and plesantly greated. Service staff were friendly, informative, and prompt. However, the food was underseasoned and overcooked. Parts of the chicken could not be cut with a knife. The shrimp were so overcooked, they were like leather. Such a major disappointment. Sadly, I cannot recommend this restaurant.

Had a late lunch there on a weekday, were able to get seated quickly, and the service and food were great. Chicken sandwich was superb!

We had an Airbnb in Harlem only three blocks away, fortunately we made reservations for our first night. We found a nice bottle of wine and ordered the Salmon Tiradrito, which was very good. For entrees we enjoyed the Obama Short Rib which was excellent. The shrimp and grits were woefully underwhelming, could not find evidence of the gumbo stew or chorizo, very disappointing entree. We probably walked by Red Rooster fifteen times and it was always packed.

We travelled up to Harlem for lunch at this place and were certainly not disappointed. Wow! We only order a few vegetarian options to share - but each one of them was fantastic. Go for the deviled eggs (really, really delish!), the charred cauliflower (interesting mix of flavors) and the mac and greens. Such a great place!

I’m so happy there was a last minute cancellation which allowed my party to be seated right away. The catfish and lobster Mac N Greens are must haves. Next time I will make a reservation. There are many more dishes to try!

Attended Gospel lunch on Mothers Day. The Sing Harlem choir and band were fabulous. Excellent singers all. Service at Rooster was attentive, and the food darn good. If you want to attend a Gospel lunch, reservation is a must.

The Red Rooster is all about comfort. The front patio is charming and all covid protocols are strictly followed. We opted for a seat in the bar because it has such a comfy atmosphere. Try a Harlem Mule. Yes! The ginger beer is homemade and Ibraham is an amazing bartender. The deviled eggs are better than Gramma’s. The cornbread is dense and full of flavor. Lastly but bestly is the fried chicken. It is crisp, hot with a trace of sweetness. It made me want to lick my sanitized fingers! Put this as #1 on your Go To list.

We had a ver enjoyable lunch after cancelling a scheduled dinner reservation the previous night due to travel issues. The restaurant was very accommodating in cancelling reservations. We really enjoyed the deviled egg appetizer with a very tasty hummus. The seafood pasta was great as was the shrimp and grits. Also enjoyed the Mac and cheese with greens. Chicken thighs were good but not overwhelming. Really enjoyed the strawberry shortcake dessert.

Where’s the yummy warm cornbread? The cornbread was the first indicator that standards have slipped badly. The cornbread used to be a different shape, texture and it was WARM! The deviled eggs looked good and the flavor was there but they were rubbery and really cold (just pulled out of the fridge). The meatballs too were pulled out of the walk-in and then slammed in the oven for a quick rehearing. Tasty but seemed prepared days before. The branzino dish looked good. Did not taste. The donut desert was fine but not worth the calories. Bring back Marcus!!

Disappointing. The "famous" fried chicken was dry and not well flavored. The restaurant was so loud it was very hard to enjoy the meal with good friends we see infrequently. Did not feel as if the place had Marcus Samuelsson's full attention.

Wow—what an unforgettable experience! My guest and I came in for a late lunch and were immediately struck by the fresh, chic decor and vibrant energy that greeted us at the door. The vibe was warm, welcoming, and buzzing with life. Our server, Sailor, was absolutely the best. Attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind—she elevated the entire experience. I started with the Farmer’s Remix Salad, and I honestly can’t stop thinking about it. Every bite was a unique burst of pleasure—no two bites the same, and somehow each one got better. For my main, I had the pan-fried catfish, which was, in a word, unbelievable. Perfectly cooked, full of flavor—just wow. My plus one started with the deviled eggs, which they described as "scrumptious" and followed up with the shrimp and grits—an absolute hit. Rich, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. We also indulged in a couple of adult beverages, and each one was crafted impeccably—balanced, delicious, and the perfect complement to the meal. Red Rooster Harlem knocked it out of the park. We’ll be back without a doubt.

We cannot say enough great things about red rooster Harlem. Our party of 6 included 3 young children. The staff were incredibly attentive and kind throughout our visit. The food was PHENOMENAL: the best chicken my husband has ever had, which is saying sooooo much. All the sides were delicious. The music was on point. We will always return to red rooster when visiting NYC and encourage all others to do the same!! THANK YOU Red rooster staff for a night we will not soon forget. ❤️

The red rooster had excellent service and great quality food! We received large portions and even took a bunch of food home! The music was amazing- it had a great atmosphere and vibe. Very accommodating, friendly staff. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit here! Will come again! Thank you!

We were late for our reservation and we were treated with such kindness and understanding. It was late we had our 16 year old granddaughter with us and we had the most wonderful service and dinner. This place is so fun and the food is incredible! I will go back again and again and recommend it to everyone! Best chicken in waffles I ever ate!

Fantastic restaurant in Harlem for lunch. There is a bit of a wait but there is always room at the counter. I had an Uptown Salad with guacamole for $15. Delicious! And there was a live jazz band. I would go back anytime!

Loved the atmosphere and fall decorations - decorations were over the top! I was in a group of 7 and we all enjoyed our food for lunch even though a limited menu. We were glad we had a round table so we could converse. Wait staff were attentive. I just wish they'd give separate checks as it's really difficult. Those are the restaurants I will return to with a group.

everything was wonderful ! I suggest to have brunch or dinner on sunday with jazz music and gospel Located in Harlem , very near the subway stop. The food was special , and gospel singers were fantastic

Beyond noisy. Almost impossible to hear table conversation. The service is positively impeccable. The distance between tables is generous. The food was served very quickly. Shrimp and grits was tasty but could have been hotter. The buccatini pasta dish was served seconds after it came out of the pan -- super hot and very tasty! Cornbread is excellent (much like what I make at home) -- but too expensive. Drinks were very good. The fried chicken breast was surprisingly dry. I'd only consider going back for lunch, when it might be less crowded and less noisy.

We were here on Sunday evening and were able to enjoy live jazz for dinner. Of course, it's louder with live music. If that bothers you, you should eat somewhere else. We thought it was great. We had the cornbread and 6 fried chicken pieces, which the two of us could barely finish. The drumsticks were huge, crispy on the outside and tender as butter on the inside. They were served with a spicy barbecue sauce. A dream in combination with the sweet cornbread. A very successful stay for us. We can only recommend the Red Rooster to anyone who comes to Harlem.

Top quality music, tasty food, good service, good drinks. I strongly recommend booking for Sunday brunch.

Outstanding service, food and atmosphere. Great drinks. Absolutely worth the visit. Only thing one should be aware of is that the neighborhood really feels sketchy and the subway states crawling of rats.

Very good atmosphere, food and service. 2nd trip to the restaurant on two separate trips from the UK, and will go again the next time I visit New York.

We found the menu very limited. And although the food was certainly of good ingredients, the food was nothing special, so a little disappointed. However, exciting to visit the restaurant that has become famous because of the owner. Nice that there were live bands! And the waiter was nice.

I'm pretty sure that someone in the kitchen must have sold their soul to the devil to make the ribs that I had. Excellent dinner with friendly staff and a cool vibe. Pro-Tip: Arrive early for a craft cocktail in the bar!

Really enjoyed the Weekend Brunch here; great atmosphere and service and the YEP! Chicken & Waffle was 👌🏾👍🏾 Highly recommended!

My daughters and I were in Harlem during Thanksgiving week in November 2019. Since we weren't home for Thanksgiving (which was weird for me because I haven't been away for that holiday since 2008), I had made reservations at the Red Rooster for our Thanksgiving dinner together. I had heard about the restaurant and read reviews so off we go! WHAT A TREAT! The ambiance was a cool, welcoming, jazzy, foodie kind of vibe. Its not a very big place, but its so welcoming. It was probably considered mid-range pricing for NYC, but well worth the prices! There is great music playing - that night it was like a cuban/salsa jazz, and an open kitchen where you can see the chefs doing their thing with your food ... OH ... THE FOOD!!! I had Shrimp and Grits. Now, I'm a southern gal, and I KNOW GOOD SHRIMP AND GRITS. The Red Rooster Shrimp and Grits were phenomenal!! DELICIOUS (see my picture). My younger daughter also had Shrimp and Grits, and my eldest daughter had the Chicken and Waffles. They also said their food was delicious (see picture). We didn't get to see the owner, Chef Marcus Samuelsson, but that good food meant he was there in spirit! Oh, the service was great too! As the evening went on I realized that the Red Rooster was a "go-to" place for celebs too. Since it was Thanksgiving week, Terry Crews ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine", "Portlandia", "Everybody Hates Chris", Host of "America's Got Talent" ... Yeah, THAT TERRY CREWS) and his family come in for dinner. My daughters and I sat next to his booth ... AAAHHHHHHH!! How cool is this place and this Thanksgiving holiday. Apparently Terry was in town for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. So Cool! So, if you are in NYC you have GOT TO head over to the Red Rooster Harlem, get some GOOD food, GOOD music, and GOOD company. Fantastic place!

Had lunch at Red Rooster thinking it would be quieter at 2pm....think again. After 20 minute wait we 3 got in but had to share a table. Food was excellent but my wife’s chicken in her dish was oh so spicy. All 3 dishes were tasty but the pork in my dish was very dry and chewy. Excellent ambiance but another noisy restaurant.

For a fun festive morning full of joy, music and good times, Red Rooster is definitely the place to go. Popular with both tourists and locals, we showed up at 9:45 for the 10:00 opening and were able to be seated at the bar in front of the band. If you want to enjoy brunch while listening to gospel music downstairs, reservations are a must. The food is flavourful and hearty - the devilled eggs on beans and fried chicken leg on waffles were excellent - all accompanied by negronis! The servers were friendly and attentive. However, the highlight of the meal was the music - listening to Boncella Lewis singing with her band was amazing! I could sit and listen to the music all day. A return trip to the restaurant is a must next time I’m in NYC - don’t miss out on this great experience!

Fried Chicken — A true showstopper in size but with a hefty price tag ($7 for a drumstick, $8 for a thigh, $9 for a breast). The drumstick, nearly turkey-sized, was juicy, tender, and packed with flavor—a nice balance of spices with a slight sweetness. But the salt level was inconsistent; my thigh piece was far too salty. The crispy skin, while flavorful, was a bit too hard for my preference. • Mac & Greens - If you love a rich, cheesy, and creamy mac & cheese, this one's for you. A generous portion that's definitely meant for sharing. Decadent and satisfying. • Deviled Egg - A creative take featuring Po'boy hummus, sweet relish, crispy onion, and shallot berries. Sadly, it was too salty, making it a dish l'd likely skip next time. Overall, Red Rooster Harlem delivers on atmosphere and hospitality, with some solid dishes but also some that fall short. If you go, expect a lively, soulful dining experience-just be mindful of what you order. Would I return? Yes, but l'd be more selective with my choices.

Absolutely amazing ambiance from the flashback music to the decor! Cedric did a great job juggling our party’s needs & his recommendations were on point!

Popped in here for live jazz - great atmosphere and good music. Sat at the bar for a few beer’s and wine. Do lots of cocktails to

Had to dine at the Red Rooster during our NYC trip. Admirers of THE Marcus Samuelsson! Short subway trip to 125th Street from Times Square area. Excellent customer service from the minute we walked in without a reservation. The place was popping with good vibes and DJ at 2pm on Dr. King’s Day. We waited about 15 minutes and were seated. Friendly and efficient team served people with amazing flow. I had the Bucatini Piccadilly! Ohhhh my🎯full of shrimp, lobster, crab meat and total goodness. The Flavor in every bite. I loved the flavors. My Love had fried chicken. Deliciousness abounded. Oh..cannot forget the Sweet Potato Coconut Soup..with roasted mushrooms. 10/10 for the Red Rooster. Must do/dine list! Bravo.

We had the best birthsay dinner here! Although this was the most expensive mean we had in over a month of travel in America (~$200 for 4 people), the food was delicious and service was great. A real benchmark for high-end restaurants serving traditional food. One star is deducted for the noise level (hoise DJ) being uncomfortably high.

Very nice setting, typical Soul Food cuisine, orchestra and soul singer that accompanies Sunday brunch. A treat for the eyes, palate and ears. A very good time after the Mass of the Greater Refuge Temple which is incredible!

Went here for lunch and were happy with our choice. Nice ambience, friendly staff, but above all great food. Perfectly cooked and with amazing flavors, a bit on the spicy side.

We had such high expectations but were so disappointed. Poor service by the staff, it took a very long time before we even got to order. The staff was disengaged and threw out plates followed by food. We also ordered a bottle of wine that finally arrived at the table warm (white wine). The staff put the bottle on cooling and finally we opened the bottle ourselves as the staff did not care. We ordered the big chicken platter with 20 pieces. Completely tasteless, dry chicken and over fried. We asked the staff to help us call taxis which they never did. They never notified us until the guard came and threw us out. All 4 got bubbly in the stomach after dinner and we were incredibly disappointed with something we looked forward to on our new york trip. Not worth a dime of what we paid, not cheap either. Toilets dirty and overflowing with paper.

Great food but the atmosphere blew us away. Comfy and friendly from the moment we arrived. Sat by the kitchen and realized that the staff was so happy at their jobs. I even mentioned it to our server. Food was great. We really enjoyed the dj and the music was great but we were able to hear each other and have conversation at our table. WE LOVED IT!

I took my sister to Red Rooster on Sunday, a first for both of us. We had reservations so there was no wait. The crab cake and soup were delicious. Shrimp and grits, cornbread another hit. The service was excellent. Even on a crowded Sunday, there was no wait. The kids that sang was an added pleasure, since I didn't expect it. The audience was included in the last number (myself and my sister included.) We both loved it. I will be back again

We had one day and night in Harlem and this was our dinner plan - the place was packed front to back. Red Rooster has a swanky, funky vibe, dim lighting, excellent service and uplifting entertainment. Husband ordered the chicken and waffles and I went with the lobster mac. The portion sizes were massive. Lobster mac was delicious and rich with perfectly tender lobster. Chicken and waffles lived up to expectations as well. Wine was great but not the highlight. Would repeat without hesitation (with a freezer bag on deck for leftovers).

If you're looking for delicious (but expensive) fried chicken and lively brunch vibes, this is the spot. I'd recommend making a reservation, because when I got there at opening for Sunday brunch, I still ended up waiting around 45 minutes. Hot Honey Yardbird - A heartier dish for brunch, but if you're going to base the restaurant around one dish, let it be this one. The chicken was fried perfectly and the deep crunch was there. The two pieces were large-- a thigh and breast with the wing still attached. The white meat was still juicy, which says something. I didn't get enough of the honey drizzle. The garlic mashed potatoes and the succotash/greens were average. The gravy was tasty, but was already cold when I got the plate. Is this chicken mind-blowing? No, and it seems expensive (but probably in line for the area) for what it is. But it certainly is tasty, so I guess there's that. Rooster Slam - A plate with a little bit of everything, including a boneless piece of their friend chicken. The highlight here though was the french toast which was perfectly sweet and soft in the middle. Mac & Greens - A wonderful complement to the chicken. The creamy and crunchy texture is something else. I enjoyed it. During brunch they had a live band playing and it was definitely pretty noisy and lively. Great vibes all around. Would I recommend this to a friend? Definitely. But would I come back? Probably not.

I have been looking to try this one for a while and finally an opportunity presented itself. And boy, the place did not disappoint. While I was waiting for my food to take out, the bartender offered free water with ice and professionally asked what I was looking for. Then Jairo explained each dish in detail. What was even more amazing, is that the food was great. I loved the spices and the taste. Also, one can not help by feel in a “tastefully and eclectically decorated “living room” one they come into the main door. Iron Chef Samuelsson delivers a great punch here. Definitely worth a visit if you are in NYC.

We were in the area for lunch on a Monday afternoon and this proved to be a great choice. I had the crispy bird sandwich with an enormous side dish of some of the tastiest collard greens I've ever had. The chicken sandwich was cooked perfectly and was delicious. The service could not have been nicer or more efficient.

Excellent food in an atmosphere that is relaxed, cool, and cosy. You feel welcomed and seen here. Most importantly is that food is tasty and excellent. Great flavour and texture.

My family and I cannot sing enough praises for Red Rooster. We spent Labor Day weekend in NYC, and my son wanted to have our Saturday in Harlem. We originally stopped at Red Rooster simply for appetizers, but we were treated to so much more. My 11 y/o son hit it off with the artist outside the restaurant, and we purchased an amazing artistically designed sweatshirt from him. Once inside, we were able to snag a bar table by the window, but the service was a bit slow given how bustling it was that day. We asked the manager, Charles, if we should order directly at the bar. And that was where the A++ service began. Charles, in his amazing suit and tie, took care of us directly himself. He got wonderfully cute non-alcoholic drinks for our son, brought us additional food that he thought we would enjoy, and created the best experience that we have had in a restaurant. The food was amazing, the drinks were great, and the decor is captivating.

Amazing meal! Great vibe, a little loud with the music! Drinks were good and creative. Enjoyed our appetizer, deviled eggs and guacamole. All five of us enjoyed our main course. Followed by a little dessert. Terry was our server and was excellent. Food comes out fast!

We have been to Red Rooster on each of the last five occasions on which we have been in NYC - it was a must. It now has an identity crisis. You are either a restaurant, where people can go to dinner and at least have an audible conversation, or you can be a nightclub, where people don’t want to speak but would prefer to listen to music. You cannot be both. Unfortunately it seems that Red Rooster is trying to be, with the result that the likes of me, my wife and my daughters, could not speak due to someone shrieking into a microphone for the greater part of the hour and a bit that we were there. The food is great, but if you want dinner without the distraction, best go elsewhere. A pity really, as we really enjoyed each of the occasions on which we had previously visited.

The place is ok at best. The lot of the food seems to be precooked for speed. So the food is dry or very greasy. After watching the kitchen it looked like a lot of the food leaving was for take out orders like grub hub. So I am guessing the restaurant doesn’t care to much for eat In freshness. Marcus really needs to get his kitchen back under control an fast. This restaurant has great décor and feel to it. The bar tender was great and the drink were great even though they charged for a double sever in a tall glass but it was not a double. The restaurant felt like the PF Chang’s of fried chicken!!! At the moment this restaurant serves chicken that is as nice a North Carolina gas station chicken!! Great taste but dry and greasy. The crab cake and collard greens are dry. But the sauce with crab cake is nice and shows this place has potential! Get it together I wanted this place to be nice so bad and all it did was let me down.

My wife and I were excited to visit Red Rooster in Harlem because we are big fans of chef Samuelson. Unfortunately, I would say the experience fell short of our expectations and did not live up to the iron chef hype. My wife ordered a steak, and it was significantly over cooked, the fried chicken was a bit chewy or over done so we were disappointed just a bit. The ambience of the restaurant was fun and inviting, the staff were welcoming and helpful but just not what we were hoping for on the food side.

I have always wanted to eat at Red Rooster since reading "Yes Chef". We planned ahead and made reservations well in advance, or we would not have gotten in. Was nice to have live music, a little loud so not a good place for an intimate conversation. The place was very busy so service was not excellent, hence four out of five stars. Enjoyed all of our drinks, entrees and dessert. Area was a little gritty but did not feel unsafe. Took the subway there and Ubered back to our hotel, as it was raining.

My friends and I stopped in the bar of the Red Rooster taking a break from a long morning of sight seeing. They had a couple specialty drinks that were delicious. And the deviled eggs, cornbread, and fried chicken were outstanding. But best of all was our bartender, Ibrahim, who spent time chatting and laughing with us. We will never forget how he made our experience unforgettable!!

The place is nice but so, so noisy. The wine is good but so so expansive. The food ils ok, no more. We didn t have a good time and we'll never come back.

If you’re in the Harlem suburbs, don’t miss out on the crispy chicken tower at Red Rooster! The dish is a masterpiece—perfectly fried, golden, and full of flavor. It’s not just food; it’s an experience. The crew and waitstaff were incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring that every moment of our visit was memorable. A special shoutout to [mention a standout waiter’s name if you know it], who went above and beyond to make us feel at home. Adding to the charm, the music in the background was fantastic—upbeat, soulful, and perfectly matched with the restaurant’s warm atmosphere. It felt like a party for the senses! Highly recommend this spot for anyone craving top-notch fried chicken and a good time. Five stars all the way!

Enjoyed everything about Red Rooster Harlem - the food, the service, music, decor. Happy we had a reservation for Saturday afternoon because it was packed. Started with delicious cornbread (so good we ordered one to go) and deviled eggs (loved the onions with creamy yolk). April D, our server, was a delight - answered our many questions and was attentive during a very busy afternoon. All of our entrees were excellent - cheddar & kale omelet (accompanying salmon hash was outstanding), Poppa Eddie’s shrimp and grits, Miss B’s biscuits and gravy. Our only disappointment was the OMG biscuits which were really dry. It was close to kitchen closing time so I’m hoping it was a fluke. The DJ/violinist provided a great mix of music. Can’t wait to try dinner menu.

Comfort food cooked to excellence. Noisy but friendly environment. Simple standard but very welcoming. Very good service. Small but well composed wine list. Generally speaking a good food experience.

A divine experience, full of love and care. Beautiful, delicious comfort food that is elevated and prepared with care. We attended Gospel Brunch with Sing Harlem. Sing Harlem delivered an uplifting, high quality musical experience; the perfect food and the inspirational performances overwhelmed us, and we got quite emotional! The atmosphere is artistic and empowering, full of original art. A truly special experience at a value price. We especially recommend the farm salad, the chicken and waffles, and the sweet potato coconut soup. The Bloody Mary came with fresh, dramatic garnishes and a side of dip for them! HIGHLY recommend.

We enjoyed our first visit. We had a 5pm reservation on a Thursday night and seated within 5 minutes of our arrival. Our waiter was attentive and answered our questions and made some great recommendations. The appetizers and main course was delicious. We look forward to returning. We would like to try the Gospel Brunch next. We enjoyed the live music throughout our dinner.

The best meal we had in New York. And surprisingly good value in a town which has become incredibly expensive. Very noisy but very fun and fried chicken was excellent as was the cauliflower. The service was really fun and perfectly delivered.

While on a business trip we made reservations for the team to enjoy this place. Couldn’t be more pleased. The food was impressive and had so much flavor. Would go again!

Lovely and welcoming spot in Harlem! Nice music and environment. We went just for a drink, but my next time in NYC I’ll come back here for dinner definitely!

This is a great interesting restaurant. Having seen Marcus Samuelson on a number of different food shows and interviews, I was interested in trying out his cooking. There's a whole outdoors eating section which was great. Everything, especially the cocktails, were spectacular.

Magic pasta with seafood, great live music and great service. Nice environment and lovely drinks. Mandatory visit next time in NY. Just be there!

Service was excellent. Margaritas were phenomenal. Food was very good. Tried the shrimp and grits, cornbread, fries and mac and cheese with collared greens. I would certainly recommend the corn bread with anything. My whole party enjoyed the food. I would try the chicken next time.

We had a great lunch at Red Rooster, our daughter who lives in NYC made the reservations. We started with Cocktails and my Negroni was delicious. We discovered a Lunch Special for under $30 which consisted of appetizer, Entree and dessert. We started with sharing the Waffle Fries which were perfectly prepared. They really complemented my Helga's Meatballs which had surprising kick but were tempered by a white sauce with julienne vegetables. We all ordered the Salmon which was served over assorted vegetables and again brilliantly prepared. To be honest the first two courses left us with little appetite for for the desert. The waiter talked to us about the artwork and was very knowledgeable about its relevance to Harlem and Black Culture in general. We would definitely go back.

A very unimpressive visit. Nothing bad. Nice hostess. Seated quickly. A little delay getting a waitress to take order, but not a big deal. Waitress was nice but wanted orders for drinks, appetizers, and entrees immediately. Very fast service. Had drinks and appetizers within 3-5 min. Nice sweet potato coconut soup, good (but not especially memorable corn bread), and two glasses of ok, $15/glass Cabernet. Pan fried catfish with black eyed peas was ok, but a little bland. Skipped desert and were presented the check less than 30 min from arrival. Just felt like a non-event and nothing worth going out of your way for. The DJ didn't add anything to the night. If I was looking to just get a meal, I guess it would be ok, but it was not worth the trip.

The food was dry and untasty. The chicken was greasy. The music was on such a high volume the my applewatch warned me of the noise. Would not recommend the restaurant to anyone.

This restaurant is vibrant and a great place to socialize with new and old friends! Live jazz great drinks. The guacamole was difficult but still flavorful. Take the train to Harlem and experience this fusion cuisine.

Really nice spot for dinner and drinks. The scene is very sociable and date night friendly. My son's had shrimp & grits and short ribs. Both agreed flavor and portion was on point. I had the hot and honey chicken. While it was good I was slightly disappointed that the chicken wasn't actually flavored with heat or honey. If you want heat try the appetizer wings they were really good. All in all it was a nice place to dine for the holiday. Remember to make reservations.

Had a fun meal with a delightful waitress in a fun and artistically decorated dining area. It can be a bit noisy because it is open. Great food. The deviled eggs were a treat. The seafood pasta/bucatini delicious. Fun night out.

Very welcoming and lively atmosphere. Excellent live music for the Sunday evening jazz dinner service. Service was outstanding and the food everything we hoped it would be. Don’t expect a quiet dinner during live music - just sit back and enjoy the show and the art on the walls with your pre dinner cocktail!

Make sure you have a reservation as we showed up at our appointed time and there were people waiting for a table. We basically sat right down to the "looks" of them.... Even though it was a Monday night, the place was packed and loud...the music was great. My partner and I both started out with the green salad that was really quite good with raisins, pumpkin seeds etc...nothing spectacular but good. The other starters looked good and savory but not in the mood for them. We did share the cornbread with butter. I had the lamb shank with lamb sausage over rice with two different sauces...one hot and the other was mild although nondescript. The lamb was very good....really good. The lamb sausage was a bit spicy and flavorful. Not sure how to describe the rice with beans other than mildly spicy and really complimented the lamb. My partner, had the salmon with a citrus type compote on it....he loved it! I was glad to see him take his time eating as he usually eats too fast and complains there isn't more. This time, he ate slower and enjoyed the meal.... OH,,we had donut holes with sweet potato filling and ice cream....OMG!! Maybe the service was even better than the food as they were great....really great. They obviously were well trained and they seemed to really enjoy serving there. I'm sure it is quite profitable for them with great food and music and being packed with customers. I would definitely go back....

I'm still kicking myself - I didn't know that it was restaurant week, so I wasn't hungry enough for a full meal. But even the snack that I had was beautiful and tasty. In a few short years Red Rooster has become one of the must visit restaurants in a city full of them. Just go. Thank me later!

I’m a huge Marcus Samuelsson fan, so I was really excited to eat here, even if it was just takeout. And honestly, my fan girling for Marcus and one single dish is probably the only reason I gave four stars instead of three. I had the glazed charred cauliflower. I wasn’t charred. It was almost like it had been microwaved. It was not seasoned well. I expected a lot more flavor. I also had the deviled eggs, which were ok, but again, not much seasoning. The Mac n greens were pretty good—very cheesy and gooey. The dish had a good flavor profile. My favorite dish was the blistered heirloom tomatoes, and honestly, how can you mess that up? I’ve also tried the cheeseburger from here, and it is absolutely average. I would try this place again, especially for brunch and cocktails, but I was disappointed. I am not foolish enough to think Marcus was in the kitchen cooking food tonight. But I have had food that was actually made by Marcus at food festivals, and he does make some delicious, creative stuff. This was just poorly executed. And maybe some of it was because it was takeout. I also want to note, I don’t regret supporting this place. Marcus and Red Rooster have been huge supporters of Harlem and community kitchens during the pandemic.

One of the best spots for a jazz brunch in NYC. But get there early. It’s a wait in line to be seated kinda spot. No reservations, but they do have a coffee bar outside to enjoy as you wait.

We arrived at the time of the gospel show and had to wait a little for a spot at the bar . Once you are inside the magic is there : very professional staff . Good confort southern food . Amazing decoration and of course awesome gospel show that take you back to church . A place you must visit if going to NYC ( Harlem )

Dinner with friends before a show at The Apollo Theater. Mine was amazing. The chicken was the crispiest I ever had, well seasoned and melt in your mouth moist. I was not sure about the honey-but that was great too. Creamy grits brought back my days in the south. Creamy and topped with broiled cheese. Cornbread was average-not enough corn taste. For $9, should have been better. Prices are high but worth it. Service excellent and it was loud, but not too bad. Others had the Grilled Caesar & Shrimp Ceviche and the Steak Frites. Tasted the Caesar which was a good sized portion and excellent. Didn't try the steak but friend said very good. Glad we went.

Great food, great music really enjoyed. Highly recommend. We went for gospel brunch and one Monday night - both brilliant, great service

Loved the whole food experience here. High quality items magically brought to your table. Good folks serving you.

Restaurant in Harlem that is worth a visit, beware many people. Singer, music, quite atmosphere with hearty and tasty dishes!

A super cool atmosphere, superb decor, delicious dishes, everything to have a pleasant time with family or not. Located in the heart of Harlem.

This was my third time at this Harlem restaurant. I have not come here by choice yet but the place in growing on me. This time was connected with the Man on Wire, Philippe Petit perfomance with Sting at the world largest gothic church Saint John of the Divine. The meal shrimp with grit, corn bread and fried fish was usual mediocre to fairly good. The music though saved everything.

Love music, nice ambiance, best waiter, superb service. Enjoyed every minute of it and tasted Harlem and Brooklyn beers

Hands down the best restaurant I’ve hand in awhile. I went on a Sunday afternoon and the vibes were very welcoming. I felt like I was dining with family for Easter Sunday. Everything was the best version of all African American cuisine. Everything I ate was amazing. I’m planning to come back just to try the yard bird dinner.

Deserves all its fame. Brilliant good, sharp service, great music. What’s not to like? We had a wonderful dinner and enjoyed every minute.

What a place. My son booked a table for us all on the Sunday of our visit to New York. What an enjoyable lunch. Our bloody Mary's were great. We had to eat the garden in the glass before we got to the drink. Celery, cucumber, carrots then the drink.😄. We ordered chicken with mash and greens. My Daughter in law had a prawn dish with grits. As we are, we were serenaded by the Harlem Gospel Choir. This was a fantastic experience snd well worth the visit. The staff were efficient and friendly.

I’ve been wanting to try Red Rooster for years and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s worth the hype. I went with a friend who’d been before but this was my first time. We started with cornbread that was terrific. I had the lobster roll with collard greens. I’d tell you all about the lobster roll and the lovely flavors, but wow, those greens! These were the best greens I have ever had. Ever. Anywhere. Collard greens that almost made me forget about the lobster on my plate. The service was fantastic. Super friendly and knowledgeable. Oh! and we also had the Harlem Mule. Great drink! Not over-boozy. I could taste all the flavors. What a great night out. I’ll be back. And I hope the recipe for those greens is in one of Marcus Samuelson’s cookbooks!

Red Rooster Harlem located at 310 Lenox Ave, New York, NY 10027. This is a popular restaurant that was created by Celeb Chef, Marcus Samuelsson an Ethiopian-born Swedish-American celebrity chef, restaurateur and television personality.

Just amazing! We came for the Sunday Gospel Brunch - everything was fabulous! - we all agreed it was one of our best ever experiences. We came for British Mothers Day and my 50th birthday from England! Sedric was our server - what an amazing gentleman and he was very knowledgeable regarding the food and the wine - thank you kind Sir x We would highly recommend xxx

Another visit to nyc and a trek to Harlem was guaranteed to have the wings at red rooster. Sticky tasty and spicy. This time we went at lunch and sat outside which was great

We were there for brunch and watched the gospel show. It was an amazing experience! The musicians were sooo good, a couple of us got teary during the performance, I really recommend the whole performance. The food was very good, fun to try soul food. We then stopped at the bar upstairs for a few drinks. Very nice and helpful staff. It was noticeable that several who were there were regulars and what a regular place! Highly recommend the restaurant and especially the gospel show.

A highlight of our whirlwind theater weekend. Every dish and drink exceeded our expectations. The Yes, Chef and Harlem Mule were both delicious and made with housemade ginger beer. Started with the “Yep! Chicken & Waffle” appetizer served with hot sauce and maple syrup. Chicken was light, crispy and not at all greasy. Entrees of Bucatini Piccadilly and Shrimp & Grits were some of the best entrees we ate during our trip. Caution - the portions are very large. Our server was delightful and attentive as were all others we encountered. Red Rooster will definitely be on the list for a return trip to NYC.

I always meet a friend here who lives in Connecticut for dinner. The food is excellent and the staff is just the best. They noticed it was my birthday and quickly brought out a delicious dessert and then the singer serenaded me with Happy Birthday.

Engaging live music, eccentric and fascinating venue, open kitchen, very, very good food and wine, excellent service. Close to the metro station, it has seating both inside and outside.

Celebrating mom 94th birthday April 2024. We were a party of 5 with no reservation. Sharea the hostess worked with us and got us seated within 45 minutes. I was so thankful. We got crabcakes and wings for appetizers and ordered couple drinks. We all had the shrimp and grits as our Entree and it was very good. Mom enjoyed our server John bringing out a dessert with a candle and other diners sang happy birthday to her. The restaurant has a very upbeat party vibe and the DJ was jamming. Would definitely recommend it and will be returning.

OMG!!! My 87 yo Mother and I took a chance by visiting the restaurant without a reservation. This poplar spot was FULL. However, Shanice kindly and swiftly found a table for two, outside. Dixie (so kind & sweet) took our drink orders. THEN… The sky opened up and it started to rain. Low and behold, Mr. Dapper CHARLES, whisked us away inside. He graciously grabbed my shopping bag, so that I could better able assist mom with her walker. Neil was a very attentive waiter. The food was hot and delicious. Dapper GERMAN was kind to us as well. The icing on the cake was the pure BLESSING of a talented and energized gospel choir!!!!!!! What more could we have asked for. We departed with full tummies and a ❤️ of GRATITUDE 💯

Terrible experience. Went with friends at the new years eve. Made the reservation one month before for 9pm. Got the table at 10pm only. The $95 pre-fixed course menu was a shame. We had to wait for 2hs to get food on the table with tiny little versions of what was in the menu. The service and kitchen was chaotic. I understand NYE is usually very busy but not having the proper planning and execution was very, very amateur. And a lack of respect. Not coming back!!!

Loved this restaurant. We had delicious fried chicken, $5 - $6 per piece for drumstick or thigh was a great deal for NYC. Added a few sides of mac and cheese, garlic mashed potatoes, and collards. Everything was perfectly delicious; we took leftovers back to the hotel. Creative craft cocktails. The service and atmosphere were excellent, it was a casual and fun evening.

We were recommended this by a guy in DC that we met so we went here on our first night and booked online. The food was amazing, huge portions and we also ordered extra sides. Everything tasted delicious and great service too!

I've been wanting to eat here for several years. Well, tickets to Smokey Robinson at the Apollo Theater meant dinner beforehand at the Red Rooster Harlem this past Saturday evening. The food and ambience were great! But the best part was our server named Anfernee. My friend and I both said he just might be the best waiter in NYC. Really. Super nice personality, gave us recommendations, checked in on us, was able to switch my dessert drink to a different drink, and never rushed us at all. We will return...and hope that Anfernee is working that night! Can't wait to go back!

When we lived in NYC, I wanted to go to Red Rooster. Somehow, I never made it there. But this visit, we left One Vanderbilt, hopped on a train and headed to Harlem. Red Rooster is such a vibrant place. Everyone in the restaurant seemed happy!! The servers were dancing and engaging the chefs, who joined in. The place is small, but oh so efficient. I watched the stacking of bowls and plates and the space is used well. Now, the food. Ample portions, so be prepared. There were 4 of us, and we had apps and entrees. We maybe should have split and entree, but I wanted to taste more things!! The cornbread, sweet potato soup and deviled eggs were all delicious. My husband got the jerk salmon bowl and it was so tasty. 2 of us had the shrimp and grits with okra stew. I absolutely loved it. Our 4th person had the pan fried catfish and got collards too! Everything on the table was fabulous. I enjoyed my visit to Red Rooster so much! It was a perfect meal to share with friends on our last night in NYC! The DJ kept the vibe lively!!!

Took a much needed trip to NYC in June. We wanted to try Red Rooster for some time so after leaving our hotel to head home we figured we would have lunch here. The service was great. We were quickly seated outside. I have one of their signature drinks that was recommended by the hostess. I cant remember the name of the drink but when it arrived i looked at the small glass and was concerned. The drink was mixed to perfection and had a kick so it may be small but delish! I have the shrimp and grits and my husband had the crab cake. Both were excellent and presentation was top notch. We will definallty return to the Red Rooster when we are in NYC.

Very characteristic place in the center of Harlem just after the Apollo Theater. It serves mostly fried chicken but also very good sandwiches and salads. Lovely atmosphere. Averagely expensive.

The one restaurant I really wanted to visit while we were in NY and it did not disappoint. The food was impeccable as was the service and we went when there was live music and it couldn't have been better. Well done to all
Best experience in NYC
We came to Red Rooster in Harlem for a Sunday Gospel Brunch & it was the best experience we have had in NYC. We were a party of 5 people from London including a 3 year old. It took us a while to get a booking here but it was worth the wait. The food, buffet style, was full of flavour and it catered well for vegetarians. You could eat as much as you like and we did make the most of it. Service was excellent. Singharlem choir were absolutely fantastic. It was a joyful occasion and they made us laugh & cry at the same time. All of them were such wonderful singers. We would recommend this place & will definitely visit again. Thank you Red Rooster.
