Amazing food in an unpretentious setting

This is a wonderful place for amazing food in an unpretentious setting. The team was very accommodating to our large group, and a wonderful time was had by all.

Disappointing Stay — Lack of Service and Accountability

By Frank D |

I’m currently staying at the Renaissance Harlem and after just one night, I am extremely disappointed with the level of service — or lack thereof. Despite being a Platinum Elite Marriott Bonvoy member, I was informed that no housekeeping would be provided, and I’d only receive extra towels upon request. While the towels did eventually arrive, the room was never cleaned, and no effort was made to address this basic expectation. When I raised concerns, I was met with indifference and excuses, such as “you should have caught it earlier,” despite the fact that I left the room at 6:40 AM and returned at 7:00 PM — a full day’s absence. To make matters worse, room service was not available during certain hours, and I had to go downstairs to retrieve my food myself due to staffing shortages. This is completely unacceptable at a full-service hotel, especially one at this price point. I requested to speak to the General Manager, and that request was declined — a baffling response given my loyalty status and the issues presented. When I pay for a room — even for just one night — I expect the basics: a clean room, consistent daily service, responsive staff, and follow-through on commitments. None of these expectations were met. What’s more frustrating is the lack of accountability and the refusal to escalate the issue appropriately. This experience does not reflect the standard I’ve come to associate with Renaissance or Marriott properties.

Outstanding

We took a friend there for a Birthday dinner. The food was excellent. The service was outstanding. We will definitely return.

Paper thin walls

Hotel walls are paper. You can hear the person in the next room cough. I was woken up twice by my neighbours doing their thing. Hotel wouldn’t do anything. Don’t stay here if you’re into sleeping.

Super friendly service with a vibrant atmosphere

I had two delicious courses here for dinner. The staff were all very attentive and, contrary to other reviews, the service was very prompt despite it being a busy Friday night. I particularly enjoyed the carrot and ginger soup appetiser. If I was in the area I’d definitely come here again

One night in luxury.

This restaurant has incredible food and impeccable vibes. Portions are generous, and is worth the value. Food comes out quickly, and piping hot. Location is easy to walk to from subway or park during non-peak hours on street+ maybe a lot with validation(call to confirm) We ate here three times over the course of four days! The menu has just enough variety to keep it interesting but not an overwhelming amount of dishes. Their food always comes out hot, and tastes incredibly fresh. Their drinks are incredible and they have great deals on martinis certain days of the week. Everyone at Renaissance are kind and attentive. They are personable and make sure you have such a good time. On Saturdays and Sundays they have a live dj!! If not live music, always a great playlist. Really incredible at hosting people and very inviting! I recommend the kale Cesar salad, carré d’agneau, braised short ribs, organic hanger steak and the shrimp scampi!! But literally anything you choose will be delicious! Also their cappuccinos and lava cake are great!

Disappointing, expensive, the food is whatever.

DONT COME HERE IF YOU ARE HUNGRY The vibe was okay at the bar but the servings on y would satisfice a small child with appetite issues. 40 dollars for a entree that literally fit n a spoon. Again, DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU want to feel like you had a meal.

Excellent lunch!

I enjoyed carrot ginger soup and avocado toast and greens. Extremely well made - not only the taste but the aromas are fabulous at this restaurant. Coffee good too.

Dining Excellence

Ny experience at Renaissance Harlem was most excellent. Had a 6pm rezervation, but got there much earlier. No problem. We were accommodated. The host was courteous and held our seats for us. Both my friend and I ordered the carrot ginger soup and the roasted chicken with braised veggies. It took a while for the food to arrive and I thought, oh no. But when the food arrived and after one bite, I realized why it took extra time; the food is cooked to order. The food is not pre-cooked and nuked. It is fresh and DElicious! The soup is amazing with a perfect balance of flavors. The chicken was THE most moist chicken I've ever had. It is a half chicken and every bite was succulent and well seasoned. The veggies were perfectly cooked. On the menu, some dishes come with a North African spicy sauce. Mine didn't, but I asked for a side of the sauce because I love spicy sauces. Order the sauce. It is amazing! I cannot determine what's in it, but the flavors are perfectly balanced. I love spicy, but did not find the sauce to be too hot. I had a Jack and ginger ale that was not watered down or mostly ice. A perfect cocktail. The ambiance was cozy and warm. The windows open onto the neighborhood. As the evening wore on, there was a DJ playing nice R&B tunes that provided excellent ambiance. The music was at a perfect volume. I could enjoy it along with my personal conversation. We went to Harlem for dinner after a Broadway show and it was so worth the trip. I'm looking forward to my next visit to Renaissance Harlem.

Best Quarantine Delivered Meal Yet!

By IvyNYC |

Our best delivered meal during the shut-in. After getting over a couple of call backs to complete our telephone order, it was smooth sailing. The delivery was timed to the minute. The driver called us and waited until we intercepted the meal from our lobby. The food was packaged in more than averagely appealing plastic containers. The portion sizes were very big (extra meals!) and everything was super fresh - hot and cold based on the item. The papparadelle and risotto were excellent! The salad (though not actually chopped) and soup (a bit ginger heavy) were very good. The cheesecake was good, and the sauce made it even better. We will be back (in person or via delivery!)

Excellent Gourmet food without the attitude that usually goes with it

9 of us had 9 fabulous dinners. Don’t let the modest ambiance fool you - this is gourmet food, well executed with warm and friendly staff. An absolute gem with a small but excellent wine list.

Delicious, simple menu

We came here based on the recommendation of family members who live in this neighborhood, and were not disappointed. The menu isn't complicated (thankfully!) and the food is delicious. The turkey burger and the avocado toast were both fabulous, as was the carrot & ginger soup. Staff were friendly, and the whole vibe is relaxed. They have outdoor seating as well.

Ms. Lampkin sets the tone! Magical!

By bunnymightgameu |

Firstly, I’m a native New Yorker who grew up in manhattan so my review is based on this type of perspective. Thank God for this hotel. Ms. Lampkin upgraded my daughter and I to the top level and she didn’t lie when she told us that the view would be breathtaking. The Brunch was magical. We had live piano and saxophone musicians playing all the best R&B songs. Latin Salsa was also played. The food portions were so generous that we had to take a to-go box with us upstairs to our hotel room. The Renaissance Hotel was so professional and friendly with their manager Ms. Lampkin there to set the tone from the moment we checked in at the front desk and throughout the entire weekend. Ms. Lampkin had the absolute most wonderful warm welcome for us. Our Servers Stanley & Yaya were great during both of our dining experiences. Have the steak if you’re a carnivorous person like me. The calamari was our favorite appetizer for dinner time. Wine pairings are top notch! Mimosas are great for anytime of day! I absolutely recommend The Renaissance Hotel in Harlem- it’s easy become the TOP place in NYC where I genuinely WANT to stay.

As a group 4 foreigner girls we felt intimidated and will definitely not come back.

I am still in disbelief for how rude the owner of this place has been to us. His system didn't show our payment, although the receipt payment came out and bank confirmed payment went through. Over the course of the next hour, he pushed us to pay the bill again many times and then forced us to sit there while he called customer service of his payment system provider to confirm that our payment was not on the system. When they confirmed we were right, not only he did not apologize and almost kicked us out mumbling things like "this is our neighborhood, just pay and leave".

Fantastic food and service!

By Angela B |

Finally got to check this place out. Went early evening on a Wednesday so it wasn’t too busy. Decor is great, the outside is a bit deceiving as it looks dark but inside is totally different. Service was prompt and friendly. Ordered the fish special and the fish & chips. Both were great with the fish and chips as one of the best I’ve ever had. Not sure what type of fish was used….but the portion size was two huge filets and they were cooked perfectly with a crisp outside and juicy inside. French onion soups was also delicious with the right amount of cheese on top. The Carrot goners soup also good. Both were piping hot so be careful! I’d love to go back and try other things on the menu.

My family went here for Father’s Day, made a reservation and arrived right on time. It was raining so we requested indoor seating, all that was available was high top seating and bar seating. This was not ideal for our parents who are not as agile to manage those seats, the host assured us a 5-10 min to get indoor seating. 15-20 min later we were seated at a table (they pulled thee tables together by their booth seating and added an extra chair at one end to seat all 5 of us) unfortunately, that chair was super close to another table on the adjacent side, so it was really cramped. We didn’t realize it was a prefixed menu for the holiday, which was a great deal, however there were surprisingly not many vegetarian options (our father is vegetarian). The host offered for them to make a pasta dish, which is just so standard that it’s a little annoying. The menu option offered other dishes with bold flavors and various other proteins (fish, chicken...), the only truly vegetarian option was an omelette — i understand that’s a good brunch item, but for 1:30pm, would have been nice to have a truly robust vegetarian option. We also asked for small things (napkin for spilled water, creamer for coffee, etc) which either took extremely long to get or just were never brought whatsoever. Finally the server who brought our entrees gave us a much better service experience and saw how uncomfortable my visibly older mother was in the corner, and assisted in shifting our table for more space and attended to items that were never brought to us. This restaurant has great reviews, therefore I would try it again in the future. If had no access to online reviews, I would not return just based on the service and options we had for meal choices. (I should note that we were never offered the real menu for my dad to select something else but I’m 100% sure I saw two patrons eating a regular menu item in their outdoor seating area prior to us being seated, not sure what that was about!)

Fine Dining in a Friendly, Casual Setting

By Janice T |

Renaissance Harlem is a FINE DINING experience, in a friendly, casual setting. The food is superbly prepared and presented; the service is genuinely caring and pleasant; and the environment is perfect! And the best part is that it is right in my own neighborhood--the Village of Harlem, NY! BRAVO!!!
