Unbeatable view and delicious food too

By Adrienne C |

The first time we came to Robert I was slightly disappointed that we were not put next to the grand floor to ceiling windows overlooking Central Park and Columbus Circle. Our second visit, however, we were in luck and were seated much closer. The views are sweeping and stunning, and I can only imagine how lovely it would be in the autumn. I love the natural sunlight and airy atmosphere of the place, as well as the sleek design overall. The food is quite good too. I really enjoyed my salad and eggs Benedict. The prix fixe is a really good value. The banana cheesecake was excellent as well and a work of art.

Amazing view!

By Comm Girl |

The lunch tasting menu was delicious. It is a beautiful restaurant with a breath taking view of Central Park.

Fun NYC experience

By Greg B |

Great place for Sunday brunch after church! Excellent views and tasty food & drinks, plus the service was awesome. The restaurant has a lot to please the eye, but is expected being at the top of an Art Museum. The pianist helped set the mood for an enjoyable meal at Christmastime.

Don't go...

By turist_from_NYC |

We had a dinner in this restaurant on Saturday (eight people). We have tried different dishes, but none was great. Food was undercooked and overcooked. It is a shame that this restaurant exists. Drinks were average. If you want the view - go to the rooftop venue. Just don't go here...

Birthday Celebration

By Sandra A |

Spent a few days in New York and this restaurant was recommended to us. On entering the view is breathtaking. We were a party of five and had a corner table and it was very private. The food was good and as it was my birthday they brought a plate with some taster deserts for all of us. Great service, lovely atmosphere and fantastic views.

A Very Special and Romantic Brunch

By Curt M |

This was an anniversary brunch and it was wonderful. The atmosphere was great- the restaurant is beautiful and the views of central park (if you get a table facing it) are very special. And the food and service was a terrific match. I had the prix fixe brunch for $49.00 and i had french toast for an appetizer, eggs benedict for my main course (the best i ever had) and sherbet for dessert. The also had live piano music, which was a wonderful treat too. I would recommend this for anyone.

Great Views, Not So Great Cuisine

By Yog-Sothoth |

This restaurant and its views are gorgeous, and the staff are courteous and attentive. The craft cocktails are fun. I found the food exceedingly mediocre, however; chicken was dry and something I could have fetched from the supermarket, talk of Amish origins notwithstanding. Nothing against anyone, but we were disappointed. Dinner for two clocked in at $168 before tip.

Terrible food, mediocre service.

By Steve C |

The food was poorly cooked — some things overcooked, some things undercooked. Everything is sweet, lacks any creativity. Drinks are uninteresting. Service is lackadaisical.

Good

Beautiful dinner setting

By Gemini1451 |

Came here with family to celebrate someone’s birthday. The ambiance is really nice with the gorgeous decor of the restaurant and a nice view of the city. Even though it was pouring that night, it was still pleasant to see the city through the large windows. The food was excellent from their salads to the entrees as well as the drinks. I had the duck which I thought was excellent and chose the Isabel cocktail. Other people enjoyed branzino and squid ink pasta as well as other dishes. The only thing that didn’t excite me was their crab salad. It tasted a little strange to me. But all the items on the table (and there were many; we ordered about 5 or 6 appetizers) were amazing. The service was great as well. Would come back for a more private outing.

Magical

By frogman10 |

We met my daughter and 8 yo granddaughter at Robert 12/8/22, we didn’t have reservations but the staff made it a magical wonderful experience seating us at the window overlooking Columbus Circle. Gave my granddaughter a complimentary mocktail. The dinner was first rate and the memory will be with us for a lifetime.

Great place for food. Good live music

By Jacob M |

Fantastic place along Central Park for food. Service was great and food was delicious. If you want park views call them.

Nice but missing something

By Chris Cappola |

Nice place. Great location. If your lucky to get a window seat then this is a fantastic spot with views of Central Park so 👍 for that. The food was good but was missing some seasoning. The fries are potatoes not fries but they were the highlight of all the dishes. The eggs definitely need something to jazz up the flavour. The steak was cooked well if again missing something to make it pop. The waiter assigned to our table was rushed and a bit abrupt. He didn’t suit the role of customer service. That was a letdown especially after he hinted for a nice tip. A nice place in a good location. Would have liked to felt a bit more attention and the food to be a bit more tasty to really stand out.

Marvelous time !

By Javier T |

Delicious cuisine with an excellent presentation and a Great view of Columbus Circle …Very friendly service by our waiter Shawn who made us feel special , such a pleasant guy !

Very good food with a great view

By AndoverDan |

It is worth it for the great view of Columbus Circle looking up Broadway and Central Park, but the food happened to be very good. An excellent piano/bass jazz duo made the evening even more special. Friendly and prompt service. Reserve early and request a window table.

Delicious Dinner with a View

By Antwaun W |

My wife & I loving dining with a view. Robert is now an added favorite under that category. Located on the 9th floor above the Museum of Art & Design, as the elevator doors open you are already inside of the L-shaped colorful restaurant. The wine collection and floor-to-ceiling windows immediately catch your attention as they provide a perfect view of Columbus circle. TIP: Reservations can be made online, but if you call them directly you can request a window seat and they will guarantee it. We had an early dinner (5pm) before a show and the restaurant was not full. There were small children in the restaurant, so I would say it’s family-friendly. Classic jazz played at a low level where all could have conversation. There is also a baby grand piano in the restaurant and they have live music on certain nights. Service was top tier. Glass never empty. Used plates were cleared quickly. All that should be expected of a high end restaurant in this neighborhood. Management checked on us and the chef sent our table complimentary Tomato Gazpacho as well as Tiramisu. Both delicious. Which leads me to the food… Everything was fresh, creative & very good. Burrata, crab cake, wild bass & risotto. I felt the risotto portion was rather small. Time spent was just over an hour as we enjoyed the views of Columbus Circle and the southwest corner of Central Park. Service was fast and we would definitely return. Probably after dark to enjoy a different view.

Overpriced, Disgusting Food and Unfriendly Service

By Doug |

This nearly 3 HOUR experience was the worst that I have ever had! The service was terrible -the staff was not warm or remotely friendly. We ordered a couple of glasses of wine and waited for our salad to arrive...and waited and waited and waited. Finally, after three servings of bread-they arrived. We placed our food order the same time we had placed our salad order. The order was placed at 700. The dinner finally arrived at 9:12. When it did arrive, it was a hideous, disgusting concoction of bad food. The shrimp(all two of them) and scallops(all three of them) tasted extremely fishy and salty. The shrimp came with the heads which were actually larger than the edible portion of the shrimp. My wife’s salmon was about 6 ounces of overcooked, under-seasoned garbage with the skin still on the bottom. The wine selection is limited-and it is crap! The eclectic crowd there could probably care less but I would like to have those 3 hours back and for the sick feeling in my stomach to go away. Disgusting!!!!!!

Excellent Dining Experience

By Jennifer F |

We have had dinner at Robert in the past. Our experience has been consistently excellent. Staff are friendly and helpful. Our meal was well prepared and beautifully presented. The view of Columbus Circle is lovely. The noise level was low allowing us have a pleasant quiet conversation.

Central Park Views

By JNYCwriter |

Robert offers an oasis from the City. It is quiet and has decent views of Central Park. The food offerings are upscale and were good just not exceptional.

COLD AT WINDOW TABLES SO HAD TO BE MOVED

By doug100worth |

Yes, we did sit at the windows and that was good EXCEPT RIGHT IN THE WIND AND THEY COULDN'T MAKE IT WARMER so we had to move further back............what's the point? Food was fine. Service was fine. Won't be back

Server would not put orders on 2 separate checks

By Lina F |

Our group of 5 (2 families) had a nice brunch with a nice view at Robert on Saturday. Food was good however we were very disappointed because our server would not put our orders on 2 separate checks. We specifically asked for it when we were ordering our food, the server only said that he could take 2 separate credit cards. We didn’t push the issue because we just wanted to enjoy our meal without causing a scene. It would have been nice if they just put the orders on 2 separate checks when we asked for is so we do not have to calculate how much to put on each credit cards.

Fantastic Meal With Central Park View

By Becky A |

I booked lunch at Roberts for my Mum's 58th Birthday and it did not disappoint. We had the corner table with a view of Columbus Circle & Central Park. The staff were very friendly and attentive and there was a pianist playing. The atmosphere was great. We had a delicious 3 course meal along with Wine and Manhattan Cocktails! We ate/drank a lot and felt like we didn't have to pay through the nose for it. I would definitely recommend a meal here if you haven't visited already.

Great view, great service, great food!

By amygoe |

This was our last night in NYC and Robert did not disappoint. We were seated at the window overlooking the circle. We received excellent service. Each course was delicious and special. The drinks were great. I will happily eat there anytime I’m in the city.

Restaurant with a view

By Joe L |

Dining at Robert’s is always a great culinary experience interesting menu, high quality food and very friendly staff in a setting overseeing Columbus circle and Central Park. Highly recommended

Nice views, modern vibes

By ldjs |

Goof food in a modern clean setting with quick service.Branzino was very good as well as sautéed greens. Others at the table enjoyed risotto. For dessert the goat cheese mousse with figs is highly recommended, rich and creamy, and chocolate cake was well balanced. Views of Columbus Circle are great. Very satisfying New York experience overall.

Wonderful evening

By SNDBoston_MA |

What a wonderful experience. Of course the view is extraordinary. Of course the food is fantastic. Of course the wine selection is excellent. But the service! Such personal, carrying service. I was floored by how welcome we were made to feel. A very enjoyable evening thanks to heartfelt service

Arty with great views

Stylish from top to toe. Cool decor, great views and food not only looks good but tastes great. See you again Robert!

Robert, Columbus Circle

By Pete T |

Great food and service at this lovely top-class yet relaxed restaurant. Booked online during the day and then rang to see if we could get a window table overlooking Central Park. We were pleasantly surprised that we got a table one set back for the window - about 1 metre with a great view - when we could easily have been placed much nearer the back of the room (as some were). Service was nicely attentive without being overbearing and the food was wonderful. Go before sunset to get the view of the park. Pete, UK

Lovely Lunch Spot-Great Views

By Peasbus |

The food and decor and views from this restaurant were fantastic! It is a pricey restaurant on the top floor of the building (The Museum of Art & Design). I had pea risotto and it was sublime. The service was excellent. We sat near the windows, tables in the middle of the restaurant looked like they might not be as comfortable. We made a reservation for and early lunch (11:30) lunch; the restaurant was pretty full by the time we left.

Tasty and romantic

By Keren H |

Great food and romantic atmosphere. The service was great and the view was phenomenal. We had a wonderful time!

Fantastic food and cocktails in great setting with great service

By Iwannaseetheworld75 |

Was invited there by friends to celebrate by birthday with brunch. They had been before, and it holds a special place in their hearts. We were seated at the window and had great views of the park below. The service was excellent, the food choices were great given I'm vegetarian, I ate every bit of my 3 courses. The cocktails were fab, and everything was presented so beautifully. Just before our dessert was served, the server brought out a plate with a candle and birthday message to me and sweet treats for each member of our party. Loved every minute of this experience and they really made us feel special.

A fantastic place to eat

By Tim |

Superb restaurant. Outstanding view of Columbus Circle and Central Park. The dinner does not have large portions but the taste is exquisite. The service is top-notch and the ambiance with music is excellent. The vibe is really nice. It is one of my favorites. Our server Jose was the best!

Views of Columbus Circle

By GoldnAdvice |

Located in the museum of Art and Design, Robert is a very modern unique restaurant with plenty of window seating to enjoy the view. I did not have a window seat but still was able to see central park. The decor is modern, cool and vibrant. I went for a quick lunch with my son. The menu is smart, you had the option of a prix fix quick lunch or a la carte. The staff was friendly but the food was average. My kale salad while beautifully plated was dry. My son's soup was very heavy. Overall the food was disappointing. Unless you want the view, I suggest you go to a restaurant with really good food.

Great brunch

By Walk You Through |

The perfect spot for a nice brunch. You must reserve so you can get one of tables close to the windows and enjoy the amazing view of Central Park. Every time I visit NY I try to stop by and have a glass of proseco with something to eat.

Excellent value

By Nautica49 |

At last, a reasonably priced fine dining experience in NYC! And what a view. We had a terrific final lunch at Robert's in December - whilst visting NY from the UK for some Christmas shopping. Robert's was probably our very best meal. Great staff, great food, highly recommend.

Robert - Restaurant at Columbus Circle in Manhattan

By Michael |

Robert is at the top of the Museum of Art & Design at Columbus Circle. As such, it has a spectacular view of Central Park and Central Park West. It is deservedly popular and one needs to make a reservation - preferably a week or two in advance (or three weeks if it's Thanksgiving or Christmas season). There's a pianist who plays pleasant music as you dine. The menu is comparatively brief - but the dishes are all quite good, and dependably so. The wine list is also rather limited, but the choices are good and the prices are reasonable, never exorbitant. The service is prompt and excellent. It can be a little noisy near the front, but one can ask for a table at the far end - and off to the right, where there are just a few tables that are very quiet -also with those great views of Central Park. My wife and I often go with another couple. The whole dining experience is always very pleasant: food/ambience/service/cost. I forgot to mention the dinners are reasonable in cost - which probably contributes to the restaurant's popularity: really good food that doesn't bust one's budget.

Una vista mozzafiato

By Valeriadellarocca |

A great place near Central Park , good food , nice place ! Be careful with the water. I suggest you to take the water of the city and not in the bottle (Voss is too expensive) . People are very kind !

Return Visit and Still Terrific!

By cja2k1 |

It's been a couple of years since our last trip to NY and Robert was on our list to revisit, a little curious about whether or not the pandemic has changed the experience -- and what a pleasant surprise to see that it has only changed it for the better! The food is still delicious (I ordered the roast chicken, knowing how tasty it was the last time, and it did not disappoint!), the ambience still great, and the service still awesome. The GM, Ana Harris, was amazing: she and her team treated us so well and made sure my family and I had the perfect lunchtime experience. Certainly one of the best meals of our week in NYC!

Very good

By FernandoVilelaRJ |

Delicious food, beautiful place and friendly staff. I really enjoyed the experience. A great place to go in NY.

5 Star Restaurant

By ChrissChriss1 |

This is our regular go-to restaurant on the upper West Side. Make a reservation, otherwise it can be a little difficult to get in. The restaurant is not that large, and is well worth the wait. We are locals, and have been all over the city, and we continue to frequent Robert. One of my personal favorites is Duck, however, be sure to ask your server about what people are currently raving about. Now for the tip... *Be sure to visit the restroom for “quite the surprise” before leaving! Bon Appetit!

Good food, great view, excellent service

By Alexgrrrrl |

Brunch was yummy. The views from the dining room were spectacular. Our friendly server was the best. My companion had the Benedict and I had a mushroom omelet. Dessert was also worth every calorie. Go!

A Lovely Place

By FLB |

We were visiting the Museum of Arts and Design and thought it would be fun to eat at Robert on the ninth floor of the museum. We sat next to the window and had a great view of Columbus Circle and beyond. The staff was great and accommodating. Our meals were very good and would definitely recommend this place.

If you need a last meal during the Pandemic - Go to Robert.

By 1948Steven |

Dinner was to celebrate our anniversary and my daughters wedding the next day. The view and food were fabulous. Service was a little slow, but we thoroughly enjoyed the dinner.

Excellent Meal and Dining Experience!

By Manhattan T |

This was the best dinner for the money we have had in a long time. Crab cake, scallops and festive chocolate mousse dessert were all great. If you can snag a window table, the view is gorgeous. Staff were all very pleasant and professional. Comfortable seating, delicious food and fairly priced for the quality of the experience. You can spend this much elsewhere and not get your money's worth. Here you will. Highly recommended!

Great food, slow service, view is over rated

By Karl C |

The view of Central Park was nice but not spectacular. The food was excellent, an A+. The service was slow, a C-minus. The server was at best, grinding out the work, and at worst, INDIFFERENT. The host was just a Dude Doin’ Business. Recommend the Gnocchi with home-made sausage, the Burrata ap, and the Spaghetti’d Squash. The service wasn’t great and neither was the view, but it’s really all about the food and at that this place excelled.

Great Food Great View Restaurant

By Maritsa1215 |

Robert is located by Columbus Circle in Manhattan not far from Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. Depending on night one goes, there may be entertainment. When we went there was a piano player. It has a modern decor and if you’re lucky ( not us) you can have window view of Broadway and Central Park. The waiter was knowledgeable, patient and we did not feel rushed. We were given a complimentary appetizer which was delicious- shrimp type ceviche with avocado . The scallops, branzino, and chicken accompanied with vegetables were delicious. Also the warm chocolate cake. We will definitely return and highly recommend the restaurant!

One of Our Favorites

By Manhattan T |

Robert is one of our favorite restaurants, and with one exception this brunch did not disappoint. Burrata, French toast, lobster roll, eggs benedict and omelette all delicious, and drinks also very good. The only thumbs down was the rigatoni, which was the smallest portion of pasta I've ever seen, not worth the price imo. Service was very good and of course the view and light by the window is gorgeous. All in all another excellent experience.

Book early for window table

By TravelandLearn_11 |

Spectacular view over Central Park and very reasonably priced food - the prefix lunch menu is a particularly great deal. Fresh pea and mint soup, delicious fish, sorbet for dessert - a perfect summer menu. You will find this classy restaurant on the 5th floor of the Museum for Art and Design, right at the Columbus Circle. Should you want to score one of the window tables, you must book well in advance!

Delicious food, excellent service

By addison m |

We ate at Robert on the last night of our 2019 NYC trip. We got lamb shank, steak, and a lobster pasta for entrees as well as sides such as saffron balls. Our server was polite, friendly and quick with our refills. The view of Columbus Circle was amazing! The decor in the restaurant was also great. Would definitely eat here again for our next New York trip after COVID.

Ordinary restaurant with disgusting bad manners

By Jesús A |

Ordinary restaurant with the most disgusting host and hostess in the city. Despite having booked at the window, which they don't guarantee, we called several times and two hours before, they confirmed a table at one of those places. When we arrived, and despite there being an empty one at the window, they refused to give it to us. After much insistence, they told us that it was guaranteed with a credit card, when we were never given that option, which is also not on the website. Otherwise, average food, average service and great views.

Quite OK

By Zaphod Beeblebrox |

Great view, good staff, original menu, high prices. Overall quite nice if you are in the area or want to go to the Met.

Dinner with a View

By Charles Y |

Nice modern restaurant on top of the Museum of Arts and Design with a nice view of Columbus Circle and Central Park. Although one can see the view from anywhere in the restaurant, it is obviously best if one can get a table by the window. The restaurant also had a number of people having cocktails, so if you want the view without the cost of a meal, it might be a nice place to stop for a drink. The service was good and the food was good (not great). The draw here is obviously the view.

Great view, great food

By Mary A W |

Had a lovely dining experience at Robert last week. My friend was 30+ minutes late but I was seated promptly upon arrival and could wait at a window-side table and enjoy the beautiful view with a cocktail in hand. Our waitstaff were courteous and did not rush us ~ in fact, we had the table the entire evening. My octopus appetizer and flounder entree were wonderful. The cocktails, too, were very creative. If you reserve a table here, be sure to *call* to request a window seat ~ don't do it via Open Table, etc.

Beautiful view with prices to match

By Terideloachetanner |

The view was stunning overlooking Columbus Circle and Central Park. I had the chicken which was moist and in a delicious balsamic reduction. Unfortunately, the veggies were barely warm. By the time they brought warm ones, my meal was nearly over. They didn’t offer anything to make it right and it ruined what would have been an otherwise wonderful experience.

Uninspiring and overpriced

By SR |

Service was horrible…there obviously was not enough help because half the room was not eating. Took forever to take your order and another 45 minutes for food to arrive. I found this overpriced food uninspiring. Sides and appetizers were not amusing. The steak I ordered lacked flavor. 150 bucks later I will not be returning.

Great food and amazing view

By Eduardo R |

We made sure to book a table by the window to enjoy the beautiful view. The food is great with a decent variety to choose from, looking forward to go again and try some more of their options! Other reviewers also mentioned the bathroom "dramatic shimmer screen beads" at the window: not to be missed indeed!

Robert Restaurant a Room with a View (& FOOD)

By International Traveler |

amazing views, interior, food & service at unbelievably reasonable prices. Best ever place to go for a view and not a touristy feel.

SPLENDID

By Nigel W |

We rounded off our visit to the wonnderful Museum of Arts and Design with lunch here on the 9th floor of the museum building. It is almost like an extension of the museum – an extra exhibit – beautifully furnished in retro, Vernon Pantonesque pinks and turquoises, a winter-themed video work playing on a wall, little green-tinted orchids in glass vases on every table… and the most stunning view over Central Park. The great surprise was an excellent lunchime deal - a 3-course meal, choices for each course, for just $49. So, that's what we did. And every course was delicious. We lingered over the meal with a lovely bottle of Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc – a delightful day.

Great food, great service, great view

By Chris |

My wife and I had dinner at Robert while visiting New York. It has a great view of Central Park overlooking Columbus Circle. The food and service was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant but be sure to book in advance as it is quite popular.

Perfect wedding breakfast!

By michaeldd1391 |

My wife and I had Robert recommended to us by the staff at our hotel. We eat here for our wedding breakfast and everytthing about it was perfect. The staff were so friendly and attentive, the views were amazing and the food was beautiful. Upon first arriving, there was no window tables available, however, upon reaching our dessert, a window table become available and so the staff kindly asked us if we would like to ove tables, to sit by the window, for our dessert. We gladly accepted and were not disappointed! The views looking down onto Columbus Circle and across the whole of Central Park were truly special. We will definitely be returning on our next visit to NYC - Thank you!

Go for the view and amuses from the chef

By Fronda J |

Treat yourself to a window seat overlooking Columbus Circle and Central Park on the 9th floor of the Museum of American Design. Beautiful presentation, ordered a simple lunch, an excellent Kobe burger with homemade fig jam, fresh salad, chucky potato wedges for $22, a NYC steal. Surprise amuses from the chef- an espresso cup of wild mushroom soup and two chocolate mousse bites to close out the meal. Be sure to reserve.

Excellent food, wonderful view and reasonably priced for the quality

By geoff n |

We had a great celebratory dinner at Robert. The food was excellent. The sliders, burrata and Salmon were outstanding. Great view. Nice atmosphere.

Great choice for a birthday celebration!

By mark o |

With an enjoyable and unbelievable view of the park and Columbus circle, we enjoyed a wonderful meal. Prices were reasonable for the most part. We enjoyed Tuna Tartare (diced finely and mixed with a few onions and spices, and over a bed of cucumbers, and Octopus, an ample leg perfectly cooked and delicious, not chewy or over cooked at all. Desserts are VERY reasonably priced with the option of a single scoop of ice cream, which we appreciated after a terrific meal. Also, the Birthday dessert was a pleasant surprise. Michael was an excellent server, attentive yet not intrusive. Water was filled regularly. Thanks for a wonderful birthday celebration!

A Must Experience

By jeisen123 |

Put aside one of the best views anywhere. The staff here is superb. Real professionals that go above and beyond. The food was excellent but skip the soups. Not their strong suit. Everything else was fantastic and done to perfection. We ate here twice because we enjoyed it so much and will continue to eat here every time we go to NYC. Great ambiance. Quiet enough where you can actually have a conversation with your lunch partner. And the view is just super! But the restaurant does not rest on the view. It's all about the food. The lava cake, and I am not a cake eater was mind-boggling great.

excellent choice in NY

By Ramon G |

is a great choice in New York. The food and service very good and for the prices of that city I found very tight. Although we went to dinner and it was night, the views of Central Park spectacular

A lovely evening!

By Sarah R |

Thank you for an amazing evening! You made our trip. The servers were attentive and very friendly. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced considering the location. We were given a window table and the views were stunning! The special birthday desert was a lovely touch. Will definitely recommend to friends.

A culinary delight!

By KatePK |

My husband and I made an impromptu booking for lunch today - looking for something near Columbus Circle - and this restaurant caught our eye. I notice that many of the reviews talk about the view and the decoration - both of which are excellent - but I wanted to add this review to rave about the food. As North Americans who lived in France for over 20 years, we appreciate refined cuisine - and we found it at Robert. I ordered à la carte: a greens and beets salad that was refreshing, followed by an amazing seafood ravioli with large chunks of lobster, scallops and shrimp in the fresh ravioli pasta, cooked al dente, in a delicious sauce, rich with flavour. (Both plates went very well with the glass of Chenin Blanc from Stellenbosch.) My husband went with the prix fixe menu: starting with the salmon tartare which was had both succulent texture and flavour. He also chose the salmon main dish that was a generous portion and perfectly cooked. Dessert of a mango cheesecake that tasted so delicate. The service was attentive without being pretentious. All in all an unexpected culinary delight at a great location (atop the Museum of Arts and Design) with lovely decor and views. What a pleasure. :)

Wonderful views, very good food, pretty friendly but somewhat disjointed service

By jerryskc |

Forced to eat here earlier than we ideally wanted since we were heading to the theatre and Robert's popularity meant the only option for us was a somewhat early dining time of 5pm. As a result, our party of 4 wasn't particularly hungry so the relatively small size of the plates offered was perfect for this meal, but be aware the dish sizes are not huge although, I have to say, I prefer this generally speaking. One enters the restaurant via the lobby of the museum of Arts and Design which is not immediately obvious. There are dual elevators that lead you to the 9th floor and open directly into the restaurant, where the front of house desk is immediately to one's left. I am thinking that booking is pretty essential here. We were quickly welcomed and taken to our table for 4 which was next to the window with excellent views over Central Park. We were lucky to get such a table and they are the best the restaurant, with it's modern decor, has to offer in my view. Service was friendly but somewhat dour at times and delivered with a very straight face. There were a couple of mix ups on our table as we had two servers who seemed to get the orders duplicated a couple of times. Not the end of the world but seemed a tad disorganized. We were served quickly with our entrees (all we ordered) but it didn't feel rushed. Both the presentation and the flavors were very well done and our whole party very much enjoyed the meal. We were served efficiently and not rushed at all. There is a good selection of wines by the glass to match the extensive wine list by the bottle. Desserts are also very good. There are nice touches including a couple of amuse bouche-type complimentary items which are always welcome and shows that the restaurant is both trying hard, and working to make both the value and the experience all it can be and I applaud them for that. The prices, whilst not excessively high for NYC are still up there and our bill was well north of $50 for one course, a couple of desserts and one round of drinks for 3. Not horrible, but expensive nonetheless. Still, a very good experience especially on a lovely spring evening such as tonight. I'd certainly eat here again. There is also live music of a subdued type which adds a lot to the atmosphere which is calm and relatively quiet allowing for easy dinner table conversation. Very good

unpleasant host; slow food service; won't return

By rover28 |

Host refused to seat us by the window claiming you must make a reservation for window tables 30 days in advance. Where is that rule published ???? Slow service, and expensive for what you get. Overly loud bad jazz music blaring through speakers. Will not return. Poor value and was made to feel like a second-class patron.

Dazzling View

By Jennifer |

Restaurant has a wonderful view above Columbus Circle. Service was crisp and prompt. Food was fresh and very well prepared. A lovely spot for a special occasion. Noise level was moderate. Conversation was possible.

Spectacular Night

By Christine W |

We recently celebrated a family reunion at Robert. At first, we were seated at a table with a mediocre view, but the manager, Peter, went out of his way to accommodate us, and moved us to a table with a spectacular view of Central Park and Broadway. The service was impeccable, and the food delicious. Try the Branzino, which is a Mediterranean Sea Bass.

Great food and exciting views.

By ViaggiatoreV V |

It offers a very pleasant cuisine of international taste. Great fish. Both for starter and second course. The environment is very refined and not touristy. The view from the tables that flank the windows is really pleasant. I recommend booking tables with views for lunch to fully enjoy the view of Central Park.

Amazing view and Ambience

We enjoyed a wonderful family dinner to celebrate NYU graduation. We were two families celebrating together with our graduating young adults. It was a repeat visit for us, after a 7 year gap, and the evening was enjoyed by everyone. It was a special evening and our confidence in Robert to deliver was well met. Food - excellent, everyone enjoyed their choices. Highlights - Tuna Tartare, Asparagus, mains generally delicious. There was a special treat from the Restaurant for our two graduates. Coeliac - two guests were so well looked after and every care taken to ensure no cross contamination. They had plenty of menu choices and particularly liked the GF bread rolls. Service - it was well paced with time to enjoy each course and a flowing conversation around the table as we got to know each other. Our waiter was great and explained the various dishes, had a great sense of humour and, given the reason for the visit, congratulated the graduates on arrival. I will say that we are from the UK and the service was more akin to a european pace of service which was ideal for us. Cost - we considered the meal was excellent value for money. Venue - great to have the view of Central Park. Tables well spaced and accommodated some mobility needs for one of our party with great care.

Sunset over the City

By Jerry J |

Not our first time here. Drinks as we watched the City light up while darkness set in. Wolfs Negroni for our daughter; the Isabell for wife and I had a Guinness stout. Wonderful considerate efficient waiter (Bob). This is a place and we’ve gone to many, where the New York arrogant attitude is never present. Lunch and dinners are always pleasant experiences.

Excellent for a business lunch

By Eva P |

Robert is the perfect place for a business lunch, with a fantastic view over Central place. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the menu is amazing. The prefix lunch is a very good option and the restaurant has one of the most amazing wine menu in the city.

Food, service, ambiance decor: a lovely NYC experience

By Graphiker |

We've dined here several times and have always enjoyed it. The food is excellent, what I'd term American gourmet, Italian and French influenced, creatively interpreted. The dining room feels like it could be part of an exhibiti on 21st century restaurant design. The restaurant is on the 9th floor of the Museum of Art and Design, it feels like an aerie above the bustle of Columbus Circle. Opened even when museum closes for the night; convenient to Lincoln Center and Broadway theaters. Reserve early for a window table & you'll enjoy a lovely view.

Intimate and elegant

Lovely restaurant in a museum. Wonderful views overlooking Columbus Circle. Excellent menu, superb food. Service attentive, staff personable and professional . A five star experience from beginning to end. We dine there whenever we visit New York. Always a memorable evening.

My Favorite Place to Dine in NYC

By Christine P |

Robert has it all: a beautiful dining room overlooking Columbus Circle and Central Park, a menu with delicious seasonal dishes, creative yummy coctails, and excellent service. I like to come here for the artistic ambience, the comfortable seating, and a high quality meal.

Lousy wine service

By Nicky H |

I am giving Roberts one star because after finishing our cocktails, we ordered a bottle of white wine to be told that the wine had to be cooled for 20 mins before we could drink it. We asked for another bottle that was cooler and were told they were all the same temperature - kept in 60 degree cooler. This is not a cheap restaurant - they should have bottles of wine that can be drunk right away. I keep my white wines at 45 degrees in my wine cooler and have a separate cooler for red wines. This restaurant should have the same.

Wonderful view !

Restaurant overlooking Central Park! Next to Columbia circle! Presentation of dishes and drinks are sensational. Delicious food Calm, elegant environment! Need to make a reservation

Panoramic View Matched by a Truly Fine Brunch

By Ed_Uyeshima |

My husband and I had tickets to see the jacked-up version of "The Music Man" starring Hugh Jackman, so we felt a need to eat something a cut above Papaya Dog before the show. I was web surfing when I came upon dining recommendations from not a renowned chef or an acknowledged foodie. They came from Fran Drescher. The Nanny. Yes, the lady in red when everybody else is wearing tan. I believe I've only seen her eat rugelach on her show, but she did a good job convincing me that Robert would be worth checking out. It's on the ninth floor of 2 Columbus Circle on top of the multi-level Museum of Art & Design appropriately initialized as MAD. Pretty wild exhibits. Even though I made a reservation just the day before, I had the unmitigated gall of requesting a window table facing the circle. When we arrived, I timidly asked if one was available, and the hostess led us to the last one facing the window, a mini-table abutted against the wall. But hell, my husband and I didn't care because there was enough room for the two of us. Besides, we still had the same panoramic view that the more obviously anal pre-planners had at the nicer tables. We saw not only Columbus Circle, the former Time Warner (now Deutsche Bank) building, and several blocks of Columbus Avenue but also the Trump International tower. Blech. They offered a $44 lunch prix fixe, but before we considered our choices, we felt a need for cocktails. My husband ordered the $18 Mad Manhattan even though he never had one before. I told him "Go brown or go home!" | didn't know what I meant. It was a potent mix of Woodford Reserve bourbon, orange bitters, vermouth, and Amarena cherries. I had the comparatively tamer $18 Wolf's Negroni which had a decided Latin accent with mezcal, Campari, sweet vermouth, and an orange peel. When we started seeing ghostly apparitions of Trump through the window, we realized it was time to eat. For our openers, my husband ordered the Gazpacho, ice-cold richness topped with a corn zucchini relish. I went for the fresh Tuna Tatare, chopped, mixed with jalapeños, and slathered with avocado sitting atop cucumber slices. Meanwhile, the soft bread rolls kept coming warm and addictive as they were. Either the entrees were quite generous or the alcohol was making everything look bigger. My husband decided on the Scottish Salmon served with artichoke leaves, cauliflower a la grecque, and radish fennel salad. Quite a slab and nicely tender with the cauliflower adding a surprising crunch. I went for the Organic Amish Chicken, a roasted half-chicken split in quarters and kept quite succulent. It was served with baby veggies, fingerling potatoes, and herbed chicken au jus. When it came to dessert, we were both drawn to the Mango Coconut Mousse with kiwi jelly and a base of dried meringue. But I noticed the fashion-forward Japanese women at the next table ordered the House Made Sorbets as they were Instagramming every morsel of their meal. In the middle of my entree, l asked the server if I could switch my dessert to the sorbet. When two of the mango desserts arrived, I presumed I was too late, but then the server came back with a color-coordinated bowl of raspberry and lemon sorbets that was quite refreshing. That was truly a nice gesture. So the flashy girl from Flushing was right. Robert showed she had style, she had flair. Besides, the large unisex restroom had the best view from a toilet l've ever experienced.

Birthday Celebration

By lisa w |

We had dinner here on a Saturday night to celebrate my daughters 16th birthday. We made reservations a few weeks prior to request a window table. Everything was perfect from start to finish. The food was so delicious, we enjoyed everything. We had pumpkin ricotta gnocchi, rigatoni, and the filet mignon. For dessert we had bomboloni and molten chocolate cake. The view was amazing, we planned our reservation time perfect, we were there when it was still light out and by the time we were finished it was dark out, our view was perfect and beautiful. Everyone who worked here was very friendly and super nice. It was the perfect place for my daughters 16th birthday!! This was our first time here, and we can not wait to return. I loved that we were able to enjoy our conversation with each other at the table, because it wasn't a loud place. Highly recommend!!!

Great to be back

By Poul N |

My wife and I come from Europa, and this was our fourth visit to Robert. The latest was three years ago. Like always nice drinks, fine food and top class service - we'll be back some other day.

Great fixe prix lunch with views of Columbus Circle

By christopherbO9687MP |

Robert provides a great fixe prix lunch that includes scenic views of Columbus Circle. Located at the top of the same building holding the Museum of Arts & Design, the lunch I had included turnip soup, grilled salmon, and finally a strawberry cheesecake. All were excellent; this is a good choice if you're visiting the museums in this area (and in this building).

Amazing beautiful dinning experience

By Theromneyc |

Excellent customer service, beautiful food presentation. Iconic location and breathtaking view. We enjoyed our evening at Robert.

Restaurant with a view!

By Sicily2 |

Had an amazing experience at Robert went there for a pre-theater dinner, and was welcomed by the staff. We were given a wonderful table by the window where we could watch the sunset at Columbus Circle. The appetizers and the entrées were amazing the drinks , the wine was wonderful, we did experience the piano player that started at 6 o’clock and added a wonderful added ambience to the beautiful place. I highly recommend!

Great view!

By Erna G |

Great service and delicious dining experience. The ambiance is a plus. The view is all about the location. Be sure to go to the restroom

Cocktail

By www.DinedThereSippedThat.com |

Came to Robert Solely to have a cocktail in the lounge. Cool venue at the top floor of the museum. I must say that when I got out of the elevator the whole restaurant initially smelled like food, but then went away as you went nose blind to the smell. It’s a fun funky decor, but also kind of cheap and plastic like. Sat in the lounge in the middle of the restaurant and still had a great view of the upper West side buildings and the park. My cocktail was average, the server was friendly and chatty but service itself was not quick. Compared to other lounges or places you can go in the city for drinks I would rate is just as average.

Good food, pleasant ambience, and music

By Patrick J |

Food was very good, mussels and sliders were nice appetizers, ingredients fresh and unusual. By about 6:30 there was a small combo playing which was a nice addition. There were also a few small tables available for just coming in to have a drink, listen, and taste!

Robert @ MAD …. Columbus Circle .... Go for the view

By East_Coast_Foodie |

I have had lunch and brunch a few times at the Robert over the years. The décor of this restaurant on the 9th floor of the MAD Museum is upscale. The wait staff is fairly attentive. The food is good, but rarely memorable. But the view is one of the best in all of Manhattan. Oh, the restroom with the dramatic “shimmer screen” beads at the window is also part of the total experience. Not to be missed!

Wonderful Experience

By shelbs |

Beautiful view of Columbus Circle~ Excellent food, staff is above & beyond! Snaps for Jose, he answered precisely any questions we had about menu!!!!! He was the best server ever!!!!!

Romantic place, great food, great views

By robert4travel |

Excellent food. Great scenic views over Columbus Circle if you can nab a window table. A great place for a romantic dinner with your special someone or partner, with low noise levels that make conversation easy. Good place for dinner on Sunday after a Broadway matinee.

Two visits: one awkward and unfortunate, another great

By centaur41 |

ROBERT atop the Museum of Art and Design has been our go-to place to dine for special occasions. Food was great and window view seating (if we remember to request by direct call) was magnificent. We went twice in mid November and had mixed experiences: first visit: spouse and guest had great meals (filet) but my mushroom risotto was almost inedible; I couldn’t detect mushroom in any form or flavor and it was oily/soupy. I should have sent it back but could not interrupt our guest sharing his distress about a partner in hospital. OK, I got through it but conversation and consolation continued until the manager showed up asking about how he could “get his table back.” We were all startled by this discourtesy. (also the server ghosted us for coffee, coffee refill, and check). But we are loyal and returned a few days later for a second “let’s-give-it-one-more-try” visit. Dinners were great and server, Emma, was charming and attentive. I had an excellent experience the second time.

Just acceptable, fairly average,

By Joel A |

Just acceptable, fairly average, the room is nice and airy and if you are lucky to seat by the windows you have a great view, otherwise the food is just average, service is ok.

Expensive Thanksgiving dinner

By GradingMachine |

This was the third time that my wife and I had Thanksgiving dinner at Robert. Full disclosure: my sister who has always treated us before somehow forgot to leave her credit card when she made our reservation. Imagine our shock when the bill came. We're a couple of educators. Gulp! The food, drink, ambiance, and service (thanks, Irving!) are great, but we can't come back here. Maybe diners with more money can. :)

BIRTHDAY

By DEE FRANKLIN |

The decor reminded me of the cafeteria at my high school. The view of Columbus circle was nice. The one hostess was a little edgy. As far as the food the menu was very limited. The kiwi & melon appetizer was combined with arugula which I thought didn't work. The two pastas were tasty as long as you liked risotto. The main course was good especially the Duck and Filet Mignon. Desserts were excellent with Bomboloni the high point. Doubt we will ever return though.

Good views, Food okay

By Elfilibusterismo |

Expensive Dinners are the stuff of memories. While the place is something that gave me memories, good views, architecturally busy Interiors that accost you, too dark (because they had a ceiling with hanging glass panels which had light reflected sides), the Food I can’t seem to Have a strong recall, so it’s so so. The appetizers were somewhat interesting but nothing to gush about. Wagyu sliders that was just soft meat. A burnt burrata. Octopus that was okay but not sterling. I can remember the mains much. The service was good but the wait between appetiser and mains was too long! Unconscionable for a fine dining restaurant. Overall: so so

Excellent food and service was extremely wonderful. If u r in nyc you should visit it. E un posto allucinante , viel spass wenn du hier in urlaubt bist.

Expensive but Surprising

By NG0409 |

Extremely courteous welcome. We had booked for 4 but arrived at 8. The maître d' bent over backwards to gather tables and accommodate us all. The dishes were all extremely satisfying. The perfect service. The view of Columbus and the breathtaking decor. Definitely worth the detour. The negative reviews must have been misdirected or they are very old and things have changed a lot!

Beautiful view and great brunch

By Chris J |

Had brunch after mass at the Church of St. Paul the Apostle and the food was excellent and the service was a great balance of attentiveness without hovering. The brunch menu was wonderful and the prices were surprisingly reasonable given the location and view. The decor was very in-line with its location atop the museum of Arts and Design.

The best brunch in NYC

Columbus circle, fantastic view, good food, gentle jazz music. Chef and Benito il pasticcere both bravissimi!!! One of my best places in NYC.

Get a reservation by a window and enjoy really good food. We started with tasty drinks. All of our entries were excellent. Service attentive

Visited Museum of Art & Design

By 4nonni |

Visited Museum of Art & Design and afterwards took elevator up to enjoy lunch. We loved the interior space and staff was friendly. Our entrees were prepared well and enjoyed. Take time to look out at the views. We both decided we need to return for a nighttime view of City lights & dinner!

Great view. Pretty good.

By Mark B |

The food was really beautiful, but not that tasty. Great vegetables! Excellent medium rare salmon. Dry chicken. Nondescript tuna tartare. Nice sorbets. Was expecting better. Go there for the view!

Exceeded Our High Expectations

By JDTecumseh |

This restaurant was recommended by a New Yorker, who raved about it. We booked it on short notice, and it exceeded our high expectations. Everything about it was perfect. The view, atmosphere, food and service. We had the Branzino and the Gnocchi. Both meals were exceptional. We have had many great meals in NY and this is at the top of the list. The entertainment the night we were there completed the experience.

Exquite dining experience!

By GradingMachine |

My sister treated my wife and me to a Thanksgiving dinner here with a window table . The window view of Central Park was amazing; the food and service were equally divine. The three-course price fixe included (among other choices) a delicious mushroom strudel with micro greens with entreés, such as short ribs and turkey roullade. The pumpkin cheesecake was divine.

A feast for the mouth and eyes

By Tristao A |

Having lunch at Robert was a great experience. The ambience is nice, comfortable and charming. The food was tasty and carefully prepared. The wine list had good options. But the view is what makes this experience unique. You will be above the trees in Central Park, which appear to be a green sea before you eyes. You can also enjoy the views of Broadway and Columbus Circle. I strongly recommend going to Robert when you visit NYC.

Great views, service and food !

By Bev L |

A chicly modern space with incredible views of Columbus Circle and across Central Park plus a bonus - free admission to the Art and Design Museum on the first several floors of the building with your meal receipt. This is fine dining and the servce was excellently attentive - when a table next to the window opened up, our waiter offered to move us there even though we had already ordered dessert! The food was interesting and portions were ample. Highly recommend this for a special meal. There's a grand piano and I expect they have music for happy hour and dinner.

A place to be

By small_oyster |

Robert fulfilled all of our expectations: booking was easy and super friendly, there was no issues to add one persone more, we asked first the window snd we got the best spot to serve the Columbus Circle. Food was absolutely delicious and the little birthday dessert enlightened the evening of our son. Staff super friendly, quick serving. Thank you, Robert, we will be back!

Ladies that Lunch on a 95th Birthday

By Hrvnyc |

Beautiful view as all have said. The decor is busy, dark and unattractive expect for the window wall with the view. Food and service was only ok. The one exceptionally beautiful and delicious dish was the cheesecake dessert. I expected more. Will try someplace else for 96th!

Great Start to Jazz at Lincoln Center

By Francis McInerney |

Great food, super service, amazing view and good prices. A great place to dine before your Lincoln Center experience. Easy to get to.

Them views though

By Bhav P |

I requested a window table and wrote a little note to let them know we'd be attending for my girlfriends Birthday. They exceeded all expectations. Service was fantastic, window view was beautiful. Food was very good, even the bread was great. We both had a cocktail (a little unusual but good. We didn't order dessert but that didn't stop them from bringing out a glass of champagne each and a small dessert with a candle for my girlfriend. It's expensive here but you get what you pay for!

Incredible Evening

By becandl |

We had dinner at Robert on a Saturday evening seated next to the window and Alexandr was our server. We had an incredible evening. The view over Central Park was great along with the food and the service. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a unique evening.

Nice ambience, average food

By Danny |

My girlfriend brought me here for my Birthday. The ambience was nice: dim lights, nice view of Central Park and a Pianist. Service was good. Attentive but unobtrusive. Now the main thing you come for, the food. We both ordered the Filet Mignon, which comes with Asparagus, a Potato fondant and a sauce. We both thought the food was bland, unfortunately, which means it wasn’t a one off mistake! The potato fondant tasted as if it didn’t have a grain of salt in or on it, and the Filet Mignon more of the same. By the way, we’re not chefs, we don’t have trained palates, but we still noticed. It was really disappointing. They brought out a couple of small cakes as a way of saying Happy Birthday which I really appreciated. We both said this was the best part of the meal, and it was free! (And a kick in the teeth after paying around $45 for a bland entree!!) It was really unfortunate, as the food put a slight dampener on an otherwise lovely evening. For the above reasons, 3 stars.

Delightful!

By Henny Renjo |

We pressed the button in the Museum of Art & Design’s lift out of curiosity and so glad we did! We found ourself in a lively, flamboyantly decorated restaurant overlooking Central Park and adjacent buildings, and immediately decided an early lunch was in order. We were lucky to get the last table for drop ins. My grilled salmon and salad was delicious and my companions were pleased with their choices. Service was warm and personable and a pianist played jazz or broadway songs beautifully, so the entire experience was delightful. Would recommend booking to get a table by the windows for a really spectacular view.

Fantastic food but service needs work.

By Graham G |

Lovely venue, great views if you happen to be seated on the periphery. Food was fantastic, great flavours, seasoning and presentation. Service wasn’t to match the food. Etiquette poor, timings not good, interaction so-so. Fix the service element and it’s a straight 5 stars.

Good Food. Nice Views

By MrJoelB |

Very good prix-fixe lunch in a lovely setting. I loved the parsnip soup. Don't miss it. My wife enjoyed the chicken and the desserts were yummy

Great Views of Columbus Circle

By Jennifer F |

Dining at Robert is a visual delight. The views are wonderful. Our meals were good and well presented, however did not justify fine dining prices. The staff were efficient and perfunctory. Noise level was moderate at times loud making conversation difficult. Tables were appropriately socially distant.

Good for lunch

By Openstudio |

We've eaten here many times. It's on the 9th floor of the Museum of Arts and Design. The decor is eye catching and window seats are available. The service is fairly quick and the food very tasty.

Go for a cocktail - and soak up the New York vibe

By John Y |

On a whim we went with friends and drank Manhattans in full view of Central Park and the whole Columbus Circle spread beneath us. Unforgettable! Classy! Expensive!!!

Stylish venue great view, piano romantic dinner

By Yu Z |

We had a good dinner there! Everything was very good. We enjoyed the night view of Central Park. The restaurant is very modern and artistic. At 7 there is a piano man. The dishes were mostly very tasty. We had a side of asparagus which came with this weird dressing I didn’t like. Also we noticed that other tables got amuse a bouche we we didn’t. The octopus appetizer was a miss. A bit bland. The main courses were very good. We had lamb chop and duck breast. We asked for the duck to be well done but it came a bit pink on the inside. It was ok but not perfect. We would come back with friends.

Disappointing menu.

By sayhowitwas |

Booked the set Xmas lunch menu at $125 p/head - three courses - several months ago. However we would’ve walked out within minutes had we known Foie Gras was on that menu. As it was Christmas day there’d be little chance of finding another restaurant so chose something else. The barbarity that goes into the production of this dish is cruel beyond belief. Many restaurant chains in UK won’t serve it on ethical grounds as it’s too controversial. Won’t be returning to Robert while they’re still selling this. That said, the meal was fine but perhaps over priced. The ‘suggested’ tip on the cheque, was from $127-$156! for a meal (inc drinks) came to $773 - the server had the temerity to complain that I hadn’t left a tip. Felt like saying, stop endorsing vile, disgusting animal cruelty and you might get one.

Wedding anniversary, celebrating in an amazing place and being served by an excellent team

By Rosangela Guimaraes |

We went to celebrate the wedding anniversary and we were very well served by everyone, but Irvin was fantastic, unique experience

Looking at the park.

By Fabrizio M |

A little small place with tables a little too close together but with a wonderful view (even from the bathroom) on Columbus Circle. Very fussy about booking time. Overall it was the best of the three restaurants we tried in New York (although the filet mignon at Morton's is unsurpassed). Discreet service.

Avoid ; the view is not worth the bad service and wrong bills

By gnewyork |

Used to be one of my favorite spots in the city . However, the level of both service and the management attention have severely deteriorated. I received a bill with charges for meals that I never ordered or consumed, the waiter provided incorrect information on meals and services, a mysterious fee appeared on the already wrong bill - “ service fee” . After I inquired I was told that yes there is a credit card fee now - mind you the line item was not even labeled “ credit card “ When I tried to share feedback with the management they nonchalantly said - sorry and walked away

Amazing experience

By Zubin S |

amazing lunch menu, wonderful views and great service. Cant wait to return.Try the poached pear salad, salmon and passion fruit cheese cake. Totally mind blowing !

TOURIST TRAP!

By jojo1898 |

TOURIST TRAP! Save your $300 for food that is actually prepared by a chef. squid pasta with lobster was frozen lobster, sauce tasted like a can of grocery store tomato sauce. Butternut Squash soup tasted as if it had been cut in half with water. crab cake was mostly bread. patrons were crude and clearly all tourists. One wanna be influencer had someone following her through the restaurant with a video camera while she posed, twirled and strutted. Very loud people. one section has nice views - the rest look at a wall. We couldn't wait to leave. So disappointed.

Pretty view of Park

By knowsnyc |

This restaurant is on the 9 th floor of the Museum of Art and Design on Columbus Circle. It is very close to a subway stop and 5.5 blocks from Lincoln Center. You do not have to pay museum admission to eat here. You can go, also for free, to the lovely museum shop on the ground floor. Service at Robert is lovely. A window table is best. Those benefit from making a reservation. Note: you might be charged a lot if you cancel a reservation in under 24 hours. Lunch offers a three course prix fixe for $51. Also a La carte. The fruit and green salad is nice with a good dressing. It is large. The chicken sandwich has too many ingredients so I ate only half. It may be the cheapest entree at $24. We didn’t order dessert so received two small pieces of Oreo cheesecake. These were very pretty and free. Appetizers may be the way to go here. Do check the menu online. I do like the view of CentralPark, particularly when Fall leaves change color. My guest had a cheeseburger. We had two diet cokes and two coffees. The bill before tip was $102 and change. I would not hurry to return. The food was ok, not great.

Excellent food, service and atmosphere

By David7117 |

We had brunch here on a beautiful day. Next time I'll be sure to make the reservation earlier to get a table by the window overlooking the park. The food was excellent. My wife and daughter shared the burger, I had the salmon burger and my son had the steak and eggs. We all loved our meals. The service was excellent. The place had energy but was not to loud. Also, the prices were very reasonable. We will definitely be returning.

Awful Experience

By Yana B |

This place is beautiful, but service is horrible & people that working in the restaurant extremely rude including manager It doesn’t worth your time & money to go to this place because it makes you feel super disappointed We do not recommend this place to anyone

Great ambience and location

By DianePittbsburgh_PA |

My daughter and I visited Robert last evening. We were in no rush to order as enjoyed an evening out together catching up. Our waiter Ian was awesome and very patient with our agenda. We shared a salad and I had the crab cakes as an entree and my daughter had the brand new scallop and shrimp entree. She thought it was delicious and my crab cakes were both tasty and filling for a small entree. Although our salad was supposed to be kale and I believe mixed greens substituted, it was still very good. I was enticed to try based upon reviews especially awesome views talked about. We never did see the views last night but too busy solving the worlds problems anyways. Hopefully next time Robert!!!!

Great lunch.

By robinzon |

Went there for a lunch with a friend. Nice ambiance, great view and very good food. Nice cocktails too. Our waiter was very helpful and professional. We'll be back.

Spectacular

By Spencer M |

Absolutely incredible location with beautiful decor. Everything was pristine (except the bathroom which was actually a little dirty). When my group came, there was a live pianist which helped elevate the experience. The food was spectacular. Every dish our table ordered was colorful, delicious, and fresh. I ordered the eggs benedict with canadian bacon. The hollandaise was really delightful and the greens balanced the heaviness of the eggs benedict very well.

The best spot to see central park

By by-giovanna-sun |

Beautiful view with live music in the evening, the best spot to see Central Park. Great location, cocktails are average, the quality of the cuisine on the menu is not that stable.

Colorful

By Hillel D |

A colorful establishment with a wonderful view over Central Park and Columbus Circle. The staff were extremely attentive and although we just had drinks it was a truly enjoyable experience

Beautiful view

By Scipion Paris |

Nice restaurant on the top floor of MAD museum on Colombus Circle with outstanding, 180° view of the Central Park. Good, light food and delicious drinks to enjoy after the visit of Museum while watching the Park

Beautiful View great food

By ParisMatch |

We came here for two reasons actually for three reasons. My husband’s name is Robert, we were going to the museum and we wanted to have a table by the window. Everything we expected came to fruition, the view was fantastic and so was the food we ordered steak, shrimp, duck, pork and scallops. The service was excellent no complaints here, our guest were also impressed with the food and the view. It’s a little bit pricey particularly with the conversion of the Australian dollar however given we were on holidays and in New York for the first time we thought why not. It was worth it.

Fabulous

By Tet T |

The food was great, the view was fantastic, the service was great. A lovely place to treat someone to a nice dinner!

Another nice special meal!

By mark o |

We had a wonderful table once again, which is always a treat! Jose was a super server, and all the staff were attentive. Kudos to the young hostess, who was very helpful. Wines are well selected, a bit pricey for the size. Enjoyed Burrata, garden greens, and branzino. Everything was delicious and well prepared. Took a bit long for the cappuccino. Overall excellent visit! Thank you.

They don’t like Mexicans

By Teresa F |

We made a reservation for Christmas Eve and it was a Christmas’s menu of almost 200 usd per person for the menu, and we had to wait 2 hours to be served. All the guests finished and left and we had to wait with another party of Mexicans because we were de last to be served. It’s a very nice place but not worthy at all! Bathrooms are dirty, food is only ok, and even if you spend 3,000 usd, if you are Mexican, you’ll be the last party to be served.

Where to start...?

By reisenderjo |

Honestly, I don't know where to start... The interior looks a Russian nightclub in the 90ies, service was shoddy and the live music underwhelming. The views are nice but there are so many better places in the city with better service and a less visually nauseating and run down interior.

Never heard back from them

By Vermont68 |

Their reservation system through Open Table does not immediately book your reservation. They send you a notification that they will review your request and get back to you. We never heard back. Why bother with this restaurant?

Great view

By Marishechka |

Nice looking dining room at the top floor observing Central Park and Columbus Circle. We reserve a table for four and had a nice dinner . Duck breast, grilled seafood entre , tasty appetizers, wine from Napa Valley ,friendly service and good ambiance. But the best thing there is the view . You can see Central park and Columbus Circle from there.

Food to match the view

By KaneCountyCritic |

Given the sophisticated atmosphere, I wasn't expecting much insofar as what actually appeared on the plates. But I was delightfully surprised. Our apps (burrata) and main courses (halibut and filet) were all expertly prepared and plated. Good portion sizes, too. Prices are reasonable for NYC. The view of Columbus Circle is magnificent.

Fantastic

By Mitchell Burns |

Incredible experience. From the food, the service, and the views a perfect combination for and excellent dinner. I can’t say enough to describe what the experience was like, but it was for my daughters birthday, and we had a great time.

Well Kept Secret Romantic Dining Spot!

By Beth S |

Everything about this restaurant was wonderful. Easy to make a reservation. Romantic vibe. Delicious food. Two things were exceptional: the entire wait staff was exceptional. We were ready to adopt our server Muzo by the end of the night. He was informed, impeccable, efficient, warm, and came over the exact right number of times. He Really MADE our night. The view was exceptional. The lights of Columbus Circle + over view of Central Park. We enjoyed our entire meal. Eating at Robert was an unexpected highlight of our time in NYC.

Treated like a queen. Again.

Robert’s staff never fails to make me feel special. This visit was no exception. From the warm greeting at the podium to my perfect window table to my exquisite amuse bouches, no detail was spared in making my night wonderful. I will return again and again. Side note: Sat next to a young couple and was lucky enough to be there when the young man bent his knee to his partner. My eyes were not dry. A night I won’t forget.

Wonderful view

By David B |

My son booked ahead and asked for a window seat. It was a great decision as the view is superb, over Columbus Circle. The restaurant is lovely. The waiters are very friendly and helpful. The wine list is extensive. You can even get a superb McLaren Vale Shiraz. There is also a selection of beers. The food is very good. I started with octopus. It was cooked perfectly. Annie has gazpacho made from green tomatoes. It was delicious. For mains we had rack of lamb, duck, cod and lobster pasta. My pasta was nice but not as special as I was hoping. The duck was very nice as was the lamb. I did not ask about the cod. A range of bread rolls was supplied to our table before our entrees arrived. They were lovely. We were also given a small amuse bouche with melon and prosciutto. Excellent. We ordered espresso coffee but asked for additional hot water. This was good thinking as the espresso was very strong. They came with a small sweet. We had a lovely time here.

Simply fabulous

My best dining experience in New York City! Victor, our server got us a seat by the window. And the service and the view were outstanding. My duck was superb and my girl friend really enjoyed her lobster also. Every single person from the wait staff to the hostess were fantastic!

Nice for Lunch

By corinne l |

Recently had lunch with a friend. Lovely view over Columbus Circle. Quiet enough to have a conversation, but not too quiet. Service was attentive yet not hovering. Food was well prepared. We were able to enjoy a leisurely lunch and were not rushed out the door. Reasonably priced, as well. A definite recommendation.

Super experience

What a wonderful night. We were seated at a,window table with a direct view of Colunbus Circle and Broadway north. Our food was delicious and the service exceptional. Special thanks to our Turkish waiter, wished I had got his name, who filled us with ideas for our next trip to Turkey

Beautiful View and Food

By VitalSpring |

What an elegant room with breathtaking views. I had the branding, which was excellent. I thought it odd when the waiter asked if I ate pork since I was ordering fish, but lo and behold, there are bits of salted pork on top of the fish, which gave it a great flavor. This is a great place to take people. And it's fun shopping in the gift store downstairs.

Very good food and beautiful ambiance

This attractively decorated restaurant overlooks Columbus Circle and Central Park. The food is very good, and the prices range from mid-to-high prices. It attracts mainly locals as the museum building where its housed does not attract tourists.

Excellent business lunch

Visited to treat my team to lunch. Excellent food and an AMAZING view! The vegetable spaghetti was delicious! The hibiscus iced tea was a refreshing treat. I would definitely come back again!

we booked lunch on our first day in nyc

i put in a window request for 2 and had an outstanding view. We had a server named Bob who took the time to share history of the area and tell us all about the city. We had just flown in from Hawaii and it was perfect to sit and relax with a bottle of wine and see the amazing city! This was an experience i will never forget and we also sat next to Paul Giamatti which was a bonus

Nice Place to Celebrate

By sovta |

We were invited to a small wedding celebration on a weekday evening. We were a party of 18 seated at 2 tables. There was a printed menu with 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts to choose from at each place setting. Also on the table was a drinks menu. The starter choices were a savory mushroom barley soup, a delicious crab cake or a green salad. For the mains we could choose from Filet Minion, Osso Bucco or Salmon I chose the molten chocolate cake for dessert. The service was adequate and the restaurant glitzy.

Excellent food great view.

Visited with my sister for dinner. We had the creekstone steak and the shrimp it was delicious. Booked a table by the window. Arrived early and they seated us by the side windows. View was still good. It was busy for a Wednesday night, waiter was attentive. Nice ambiance in the restaurant not too noisy. Bathrooms are nicely decorated too.

Lunch with a view. Reunion

Lunch with a view. Reunion with old friends. Colorful room with a view to Central Park. Excellent dishes with a complimentary glass of dessert champagne.

Another exquisite dining experience!

For the second year in a row, my sister treated my wife and me to a sumptuous three-course dinner at Robert. The views will knock you out, but so will the delicious food and service. I started with the fig and quinoa salad, and my wife started with the mushroom strudel in the flakiest pastry. Then we had the filet mignon and finished off the repast with the trio dessert: pumpkin cheesecake and a chocolate mouse tart. Our wine, at the waiter's suggestion, was to die for: ChateauTronquoy-Lalande Sainte Estephe 2014.

Mediocre food and long wait

By Shirley K |

I have been here before and had good experience but today was poor. We arrived on time waited for our table and lovely server arrived - we had warned we only had hour and half for ourmeal as flying later . We went straight for a main and waited for twenty minutes when server said he would chase as we should have had it. Then 10 minutes later head waiter said he would chase and 20 minutes after that we were served . My lobster omlette was luke warm and melted brie was congealing . lobster tail was freezing and tough . We were offered free dessert which was put on table before I had finished my lunch. This is not good enough and certainly not at this expense. The wait would have been OK if the food had been good - the free desserts were Ok but the mains poor. Think a full refund except for the non alchoholic drinks were called for . Need to put this in as previously gave such a good review

Average food with a nice view.

By Conrad M |

Very nice view looking down Central Park West, but the food is just average. Steaks ordered medium rare were almost well done. Vegitarian options were good. Total meal for 6 including cocktails for 3 and a bottle of wine was $1,000 including 20% tip

Great Meet-up Spot With Out of Town Friends

By SkyKingBoston |

My wife loved Robert. I liked it too, but in my opinion "Bob" only deserves four stars. Very good but not great. We were warmly greeted for a weekday lunch, the four of us were seated at a prime window table. Agreed, the springtime views of Central Park and Columbus Circle are a great feature. Service was friendly and knowledgeable and avoided all manner of cloying pretentiousness. We started with a superior Champagne and continued with a decent Chardonnay. Our guests selected the beverages, so I never saw the wine list; pricing was a tad high but OK given the level of food and service offered. All four of us enjoyed the prix fix luncheon - two chickens, one salmon and one pasta. It isn't often that the sorbet outshines the other dessert on the prix fix menu, but it certainly did on this occasion. Go for the blueberry sorbet - best ever! Service ever so slightly declined once entrees were delivered and confirmed acceptable. Glassware and plates needed to be tidied up quite a bit faster. One shouldn't have to ask for coffee with dessert at a fine dining restaurant. Dessert beverages should be offered/suggested by the staff proactively and promptly. We in no way were in a hurry to depart - we had all day and enjoyed a 2:15 dining experience. We can easily recommend Robert for a special or upscale meal. As I said - very good, just not quite great.

30th birthday meal

By Ashley G |

I took my girlfriend here for a meal on her 30th birthday, I chose the location as was highly rated and close to Central Park. The view was worth the visit alone and the food was just as good. Highly recommended a visit if in New York and looking for special place for a meal.

Great for a special evening!

By nyctraveler24 |

We live and work in NYC, but my wife and I were looking for a "special" restaurant to mark our anniversary over Memorial Day weekend. We were reminded of Robert (and that we had never been there) and so made our reservation and we were thrilled to get one. It was magical... a beautiful evening, the restaurant honored our OpenTable reservation requesting a table by the window. The service from our server (Henry) was perfect-- friendly, unpretentious, yet attentive (not hovering) and very helpful in making choices. I had the chicken and my wife had the salmon, both were great. Our side of "tempura shishito peppers" was a big soggy, but other than that, it was a flawless meal, and we were also very surprised at the value; while pricey (as it should be) it was less expensive than many far less spectacular than many midtown restaurants and far less than other touristy places "with a view". We were thrilled with our evening and we will return!
