A great return for your money

had a wonderful time. Very good costumer service. Very tasty dishes with affordable prices. The atmosphere is very nice.

Great atmosphere and great margaritas!

By Barnesadventurers |

Atmospheric terrace (not sure what happens in the cooler months) with tasty food and great margaritas. Service good enough. Everyone seemed to be having a fun time.

Delicious authentic Mexican Food

By Kam942 |

One of our friends suggested we eat at a local restaurant where regular New Yorkers hang. He suggest Rosie's Mexican. We loved it! There were six of us, it was a Sunday night and we were seated right away. The place was warm and friendly with Mexican art throughout. We agreed the homemade guacamole was the best we ever had. I had mushroom tacos. Others had fish or beef. They were small, just right so we weren’t overly stuffed. For desert I chose the chili chocolate ice cream. It was delicious. When the chili kicked in It did not over power the chocolate. I loved it. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. A good time was had by all.

Average Mexican in East Village

By Antionio10 |

Average Mexican food. The tacos were decent, but nothing special. This included the fish and chicken tacos. Frozen Margaritas were average too. Service and atmosphere were good. The cooking seems to have gone down since my last visit.

Amazing food and margaritas!

By Sara |

Amazing food and margaritas! Must have the queso fonduto!!! I prefer the Paloma on the “not a margarita” drink menu

Nice staff/ drinks. Terrible 'Mexican Food'

By Debbie H |

Cider and wine were very good. They don't sell Coke or Pepsi but only Mexican drinks which I liked. Menu looked varied and tasty unfortunately it did not come out so. Cold and soggy. We have 2 traditional basic Mexican dishes (1 being quesadillas). They were completely tasteless and basically inedible. Neither of us finished out tiny portion. Even the salsa and chips failed to have any flavour (no salt anywhere in sight). Disappointed.

PHENOMENAL

By anthonypisano2 |

After my experience last night at Rosie’s I still find myself speechless with the unbelievable customer service we received. We dined outside on July 20th at 6pm I wish I could remember the servers name. But let me get to the point. This is truly a first after being sober for 11 years and when I’m with a group and they order tequila shots it’s not a big deal but I usually awkwardly toast with my water glass. But last night when the table ordered their shots out came the tray of shots and the server had a beautiful non alcoholic shot for me so I could participate too. My partner was so happy for me he actually spilled the shot so the server had a replacement on the table in two minutes and it was just so thoughtful and the epitome of hospitality. This sort of thing can’t be taught, it’s really more about truly caring and this seems to be a rarity these days. Thank you so much for such an extraordinary experience and we will be back soon.

Top-shelf Mexican

By 835lew |

I love Rosie's. They nail the atmosphere, and have great outside seating. Excellent, authentic Mexican food, great drinks. Service can be a little precious (is it that hard to swap salad greens for rice and beans?) but overall I strongly recommend this place. The habanero salsa is divine!

Meh - not worth hype better places nearby

By Elizmoev |

Overrated. Originally from Texas, love Mexican and was disappointed with food first two visits but walked by on a beautiful day and wanted to sit outside for a drink- said no outside seating was avail when there were 7 open seats and no one else waiting. Not worth hype. Go to el rio grande or Ofrenda or if in east village Fonda or black ant

Amazing Happy Hour!

By Lindsaysnyd17 |

This adorable restaurant has an amazing happy hour. $3 beers and tacos for $2.50. One of the cheapest I’ve been to in NYC.

Authentic Mexican on NYC East-side

By Joseph A |

We've been coming to Rosie since they've opened and whenever we want authentic Mexican cuisine and amazing drinks, this is our go to. The staff and servers are super friendly. Brunch is wonderful, take the time and enjoy. Make sure to try the guacamole and 2 kinds of salsa. The tacos are a must! The quest fundido is a treat, cheesy and spicy. So if you want some authentic Mexican cuisine, you have to visit Rosie's

Mexican deleight!

By Mikael E |

We stumbled into this Mexican East Village restaurang around 8 pm and it was full of locals. We ordered grilled steak (Asado) with onions and tapas locals and guacamole and tortilla bread. And we were not disappointed! Execellently spiced! The waitress was very nice and helpful to two beginners of Mexican cousine. We recommend this place warmly to anyone intressting in a feast! From Sweden with love!

Great for Groups

By Kristen M |

Love this restaurant- great margaritas and delicious small plates to share. It's perfect for when you want to get everyone together. The atmosphere is very casual and cozy. It's bustling and busy- keep that in mind if you're trying to go there for happy hour drinks or Friday Night dinner.

The Best Restaurant We Visited!

By anibumardigras |

My husband and I came here twice during our honeymoon, and Maria absolutely stole the show! She was a genuine and personable bartender who made magnificent drinks for us. Thank you for making our stay so special! The tacos were the best we've ever had, and we are from New Orleans! I definitely recommend this place; especially for those who are gluten-free, or who (like me) suffer from Celiac disease. It is safe!

Great restaurant for a birthday celebration

By Emily |

My friends and I went to Rosie's to celebrate two 20-year-olds' birthdays. The atmosphere was great, our server was very attentive. In the end they let us split the check using 7 different cards and never complained once. I'm not a big Mexican food eater, but I loved the food (especially the guac). Would definitely recommend for a fun night out with friends.

Good food and good service

By Holly Hood |

There is no better combination than good food and good service. I usually have a seafood choice and I have never been disappointed. The frozen Margarita's to die for.

Great tacos, atmosphere & desserts

By Ktwe12 |

Great lively atmosphere with very friendly service. The tacos were really good, loved the al pastor, and the guacamole was delicious. Margaritas are strong and the desserts were delicious. A great night out.

Sunny even on a cloudy day!

By Marty C |

This open-kitchen restaurant makes me feel like I am on a beach in Mexico next to a palapa! If it weren't so expensive I would have given them 5 stars! Wonderful cocktails! Delicious small tacos!

This is not a true Mexican restaurant!!

By Lucas E |

I am from Brazil and here we are very used to eat good Mexican food. The Rosie's was very disappointed firstly the chili was horrible, no flavor at all, the guacamole had no taste ( few lemon and onion), and the worst there is no sour cream!!!! This place shouldn't be call Mexican restaurant...

Great Birthday Party

By Gordon M |

Flew in from Toronto to NYC with friends in tow to celebrate a very special Birthday milestone. I selected Rosie's from online and critical reviews which promised a dining experience worth traveling for. They were 1000% correct and we spent three fantastic memorable hours with friends, great waiters, endless pitchers of margueritas and spectacular food. I expect we will be talking about this meal 50 years from now.... Bravo to the who team at Rosie's.

Excellent and genuine mexperience on the corner

By Micma981 |

Loved this place! Friendly staff, so many great options on the menu and atmosphere was perfect. We tries the tacos, tamales, tortillas with guacamole, beans and, to top it off, churros. Great taste and variation in the tacos, the a la minute made tortillas were great.

Random stroll down 2nd Ave...

By SeanKoskii |

On a random stroll down 2nd Ave with 2 local New Yorkers and my boyfriend i arrived to Rosie's with an empty stomach and a lot of optimism! Thankful, I wasn't disappointed by anything delivered to the table this day!!! The food was accompanied with delicious margaritas - mine was spicy and sweet featuring habanero and mango!! The tacos were fresh and flavorful made perfect with hand pressed tortillas --- I think made with corn meal? Guacamole was delicious and the chips served with it were made in house like the tortilla! Was shocked to find out this was a restaurant owned by a big group! Very clean very fast service very DELISIOSO!!

Good tacos

By Mackenzie V |

We ate dinner here and was pretty good. I had a michelada (beer, tomato juice, chili lime rim) and i have had much better. Even Chelada in a can by Bud Light is better. My husband had a lime margarita on the rocks and really liked it. We had guacomole which was good. And, three tacos. Pescado - really good, barbacoa-ok, kinda dry and al pastor-good, but i had a rubbery, chewy chunk that was unedible. Overall, good food.

Over-rated

By Robert Y |

The service was excellent. The food was not so good. I could have had a better meal at Chilli's. My wife's chicken was sub-par and my steak was not the greatest. The drinks hit the spot. Are we going back? No....we'll try a different place next time we're in NYC.

Great Food Done to Perfection

By Denise W |

If you are anywhere remotely close to Rosie's - you need to make it all the way here. A beautiful woman is making hand made corn tortilla's in the middle of the restaurant. Angela (the manager) is delightful. MUSTS include: the fish or shrimp taco, the enchilada Suizias, and the Salsa Macha Salad is truly one of top 5 foods on the planet. It is a house speciality (secret recipe) and is made up of every food I love. You cannot go wrong with anything you order here. Do yourself a favor and make it a stop on you trip to the East Villiage.

Great food, prices, service, atmosphere

By Susan S |

Went with a party of 5. We had reservations and were seated promptly. The meals are "right sized," which means YOU CAN HAVE DESSERT! You want dessert! We each ordered something different and shared - I liked the Churros best. Meals are attractively presented on boards, drink menu has several fun offerings. Excellent service throughout. If you are an NYU parent who is treating your student and friends, this won't break the bank.

Affordable Open Air Al Fresco East village Mexican Brunch Spot

By jdao |

My honey and I were walking with friend towards Gemma for Saturday brunch, when we saw Rosie's on the corner. Feeling adventurous, we decided to stop in, since this would be new to all of us. The "open" seating arrangement with both AC and open air on all sides (true outdoor seating, not under the ceiling, also available) is pretty nice on a non-rainy day. Noone stopped to smoke while we enjoyed our lunch, so that was a bonus as well. There is a full bar along one side and a taco pit the middle of the restaurant (think habachi-esque) with seats all around. For brunch, the menu consists of many egg related options, a couple salads, a stew, tacos and snacks. My honey and I ordered two egg dishes, some nachos, a couple cocktails and shared the corn on the cob. The cocktail was decent. I particularly liked that large ice cubes were used. Also, it was nice to have the option between still and sparkling water, without an additional charge for sparkling. The tacos come in mini pairs, you will likely need 2 orders ($8 an order) and a side to fill up (coming from someone who is 100 pounds). The pricing is decent--an entree will run on average $11 to $15. Cocktails are about $10-$12 each. With so many brunch spots in NYC, Rosie's fares above average due to the airy and spacious atmosphere, food quality (if you are open to Mexican food) and location (not hard to find). The bathrooms aren't as gross as other places either (likely because the place is relatively new). I'd definitely return at some point and would recommend others to try.

Innovative menu

By HealthyFoodPlease |

I use the word innovative very liberally here..I find it to be a different menu from typical Mexican food because they've started with traditional basic ideas and have made small shifts to make it new..for example Chilaquiles is typically made with chicken and green salsa. This brunch version is with sunny side up eggs and a deep red sauce. Still delicious although I really like my tortilla chips to be more soaked with salsa. They also melt cheese in there instead of shredding it on top so beware. Churros with dipping chocolate and chocolate tamales are listed first on the menu instead of being at the end or on a separate desert menu. A very beautifully decorated and sunny venue, great glasses and cups and plates that are simple Mexican in design...Aguas Frescas.. So my friend and I shared guacamole....decent I had the egg Chilaquiles....tasty I drank an aqua de horchata (traditionally this is a drink made with pumpkin seeds which is much like rice milk but with a deeper flavour that is both refreshing and rich)...very satisfying We shared churros...perfectly executed Overall very tasty and satisfying and looking forward to the next visit to try one of their salads and more agua de horchata!

Great Food for the Value, and Great atmosphere

By Deluxpinion |

I pass this great looking Mexican restaurant often, it has a nice outside area, and even tried a couple of times to get a table for dinner, but it's always crowded and the wait is at least 30 minutes, so this Friday I passed by on the early side, around 7:00 and it looked like there may be some tables and we grabbed one. The food is really worth the trouble, thought the service is not so great because it's big and crowded and as usual these days, not enough waiters to handle the influx

Had the potential...

By cmejlbo |

Ambiance, the service..... Just missed the flavor. It's not that the food was bad, it just didn't have any flavor,. Had gotten this place recommended for good Mexican food, But maybe I expect too much? Still haven't found a good Mexican restaurant here on the east coast, my favorite once are still in CA. The magiritas was good, the service great. The salsa did not even have a hit of spice, The Carne asada was so flavorless... what a disappointment. This is not a place thats going to end on my list for restaurants that I would like to revisit.

Great food and drinks in fun atmosphere

By YG-USA |

Unique elaborate cocktail menu, fun open kitchen, simple yet inviting open floor plan and variety of Mexican food options to accommodate everyone's preferences makes this local neighborhood a local and tourist favorite.... we loved it!

Outstanding Mexican Food

By EthanH10012 |

My wife and ordered the spectacular Asada Qaxaqueña, which is like a Mexican aircraft carrier of meats, cheese and more. Remarkable flavors. The dish was NOT on the light side, but worth the calorie investment. They also have a wide variety of smaller dishes. Staff was first-rate. We were here dining in this space years ago when it was a Greek place. It was good. This is phenomenal. Price point was very good.

Calamari to die for!

By RJFNaples |

Best CRISPY calamari I've ever had!! We had one order, then ordered another one. Nice location as well.

Great everything

By TheMiamiUrbEx |

Stopped her for a late late lunch but way too early to be called dinner. Normally I find myself alone in the restaurant but I found a decent amount of people here which is normally a good sign. I had read great reviews about this place but heard decent reviews by word of mouth and decided to try for myself. I sat at the bar and was taken care of by Jesus who has a great attitude and is very good at taking care of guests. After I advised I wanted a margarita but preferred a mezcal, He recommended the Rosie's margarita which was excellent and had a good spicy taste to it. I was quite full from a late breakfast so I only ordered the fish tacos which were the best fish tacos I've ever had (and I've eaten a lot). What I liked about it was, is that they didn't overload it with complicated ingredients. They lightly fried the fish and put a vinegary cole slaw on top with a nice portion of spicy mayo. The fish was cooked perfectly and the mix of the light crunch but butteriness of the fish with the acidity of the coleslaw and the spice from the mayo was just on-point and best of all...easy to eat. The tortillas were also great and lightly toasted which made the texture of eating it better than being so soft that they fall apart or are hard To handle. Atmosphere is great. It's just off of Houston, on 2nd in the Bowery. The whole restaurant is basically open-air which is nice. I highly suggest this place for anything Mexican. I can't wait to go back and try the other menu items ASAP!

Taco for two(?)

By Remy M |

At Rosie's on 29E and 2nd ave in East Village, they will hand you two menus - one with it all and one with a selection of five tacos. Stick to the latter, not because its something wrong with the former. The fact is that they pull of the tacos on the menu much better than the other dishes (based on my three experiences on this place). Would recommend four taco-dishes to share together with chips and guacamole together with some Italian wine (cudos for cool wineglasses)

Nice find

By Mike K |

We were waiting to see "Stomp". Started to rain, were hungry, and found this place. Great food, great service. You see the locals eating here

Nice evening

By Be47an |

We stumbled across Rosie's when looking for a place to eat in the East village. The service was great and the food was lovely, in particular the guacamole. It was extremely hot with the open kitchen which made it a little uncomfortable to sit in but other than that very good. They do a huge list of tequilas too!

Best chips ever

By rogersgreen |

Atmosphere so ideal with outdoor and indoor and bar seating. Super service and open late!! The steak Carne Asada was above and beyond!! Cheese was amazing!!

Good Mexican Lots of Tequila Choices

By JODI11963 |

I liked Rosie's very much. We went on a very warm October evening so it was nice to sit with the doors open. The waitress was very enthusiastic and polite. A little too eager to please, but she tried really hard. First drink order was wrong, but no problem they fixed right away. The special app was fantastic. It was squash with cheese and really good. Entrees were a good size, everyone was happy with their food. Tacos were yummy. Drinks once made correctly were spot on !

A new experiance

By williamahlin |

Great food, great atmosphere, great service and best margarita. Went there with family and mix some food to share. First taste of "real" mexican food and it was tasty and lovly. Best part for me was the cilantro margarita and tequila on rocks... spot on!

Excellent casual Mexican dinner.

By Barun C |

Wonderful cocktails (Frozie was particulary good), delcious tacos (our favorites were the beef Machaca) , good service, we will be back.

A New NYC Favorite ... Very Impressed ... Real Mexican in the city

By 1TNtraveler |

We love the food in Mexico and Rosie's in NYC far surpassed our expectations. Get a table next to the window and enjoy watching the people as they pass along the sidewalks in the East Village. Enjoy a margarita that tastes exactly the same as those in Mexico. Order some guacamole, salsa and chips ... the guac is handmade fresh on site and was probably the best I've ever had (so good). Enjoyed some tacos (baja fish, suadero) and a couple of IPAs ... was a great way to spend a couple of hours. Service was helpful, friendly, and happy for us to stay as long as we wanted. Would definitely go back again.

Casual fun atmosphere with great food and drink

By Mike S |

had a fun dinner. lively music, great service and really tasty food. chilli margaritas pack a punch so carefully consume the jug. quick service and not staff are friendly but other patrons as well. great part of NYC.

GO, Go, Go --- and sit at the taco making bar

By rradice123 |

The meals in every way are great Mexican food. We found this place because we had some business at the La Mama theater that evening. Rosie's combined with La Mama's made this an evening to remember. We will go back to Rosie's, as many times as we can when in NYC.

Good appetizers, so so tacos

By doctorrod |

Went for lunch yesterday. Ordered classic margaritas, queso fundido and guacamole, all excellent. However the tacos were very average which left to be desired. Churros were good.

Amazing food!

By Smh26 |

My husband and I ate dinner here and were so impressed by the whole experience. The setting is cool, we sat in the middle overlooking the staff making fresh tortillas. We had the chips and guacamole while we looked at the menu, delicious. I had the mariscos al ajillo - different types of fish and shell fish cooked in garlic and chilli, with rice and it was absolutely divine. My husband had the carne asada - sirloin steak which he also really enjoyed. The service was fantastic and we had a really great time.

Tasty tacos and cocktails

By WhatAnnasEating |

Came here with a friend. We had a booking and I would recommend as it was packed even early in the week. The guacamole was tasty (better than what I had in Mexico), tacos had good flavour and the cocktails were dangerously good. It's a big restaurant, so good for large groups.

Highly recommended

By Aralia A |

Very good brunch and I really liked the atmosphere. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Prices are good and absolutely worthy the food.

High quality, tasty, innovative Mexican!

By Beth P |

Ate here last night! Delicious food, high quality, innovative menu, friendly servers, awesome interior, fantastic experience.

Outstanding Evening!

By Daniel C |

We came across this place whilst on our way to somewhere else and happened to hear someone raving about the food. Having eaten there now, we totally agree - it was absolutely delicious! We had two types of tacos which tasted amazing and also a quesadilla and a pulled pork tart which was fantastic. The service was welcoming and attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Corner Restaurant Syndrome

By Katie |

Vibrant corner restaurants in NYC are always enticing, but they never live up to what the ambiance projects. While the tortillas were being made fresh in the middle of the establishment, it seemed a bit gimmicky, and the woman wasn't actually constructing the whole tacos. I ordered one of each taco, and was impressed with the lamb, but the others lacked inventive flavors and spice. All in all, Rosie's has a great environment with average food and reasonable prices.

best mexican in NYC

By deborahanne312 |

Wow! Someone finally got mexican food right in Manhattan! Everything was delicious as were the drinks. The service was great and the atmosphere was fun! I will definitely go back!

Average food with very good service

By wc9828 |

We were a group of eight and the service was very good. Rosie's was yet another Mexican restaurant that offered fancy dishes in order to justify higher prices. There was little latitude to customize your order. Very popular place.

yummy vegatarian options

By Andrea P |

I went to Rosie's after reading a recommendation from an interview with Kimberly Snyder, although the meal she recommended was no longer on the menu, the mayan pumpkin dip is a DELICIOUS healthy vegetarian option. I really enjoyed it along with the guacamole, then carolina lime shrimp and vegetarian enchiladas. Also, while I was sitting at my table, my table toppled over because one of the bottom of the legs broke and the glass bottle of water fell on the floor. The staff was very apologetic and very quickly moved us to another table, it was very well handled and I was impressed with the service.

Busy Mexican

By RachyPoodles343 |

We were recommended here for some Mexican food in NYC and we really enjoyed it - great fresh food with some fab mexican beer! We just ordered a selection of food and shared which I think is a good way of doing this - our waitress also had some great recommendations!

Good tacos

By mytiger1 |

My son brought me here for Mother’s Day, I was visiting New York and we had the best waitress, Samantha is her name. Food was delicious and you can watch them make the tortillas fresh right in front of you and they have some tasty drinks as well.

Last dinner in New York

By Franca C |

We decided to eat a Mexican meal for our last dinner in New York. The restaurant was buzzing with music & excitement. The food was delicious and served in a timely manner. Plate sizes were huge. Great night

Nice corner place to watch East Village life

By Sjoerdd d |

This is a very nice casual corner place to have lunch or dinner and watch East Village life. Staff is young and friendly, the food is a bit trendy but still very good (and of course much better than in your average Mexican chain restaurant). Great cocktails.

Authentic Mexican flavors done with love

By Joseph A |

Vicki Freeman has done it again. This is the 4th restaurant that she's opened and we had the chance to dine there this Friday. The overall decor and vibe is so warm, inviting and relaxing. The staff is super friendly and you don't feel rushed. The food, what can I say but wow! It's authentic Mexican cuisine and the 2 chefs are from Mexico are running this joint, which means they brought the big guns when it comes to authentic but modern twist in this restaurant . We started out with the guacamole and chips, then the queso fresco . So fresh and full of flavors! We then shared the mushroom and fish tacos (that's 2 different kinds of tacos) and 2 other dishes. For desert, the cinnamon ice cream and churros are a must! Overall, amazing cocktails, great food and service! Found our new place

Nice vibe, excellent margaritas, food & service in East Village

By German B |

We were in the East Village and looking for a place to have drinks and dinner. We stumbled upon Rosie's on 2nd Ave. What a fun time! Place was hopping (at 2pm on a Sunday!) It was a nice day so all the outdoor tables were taken but their glass doors were all open. Modern interior with colorful decorative touches was bright and cheery. They make a great margarita (I recommend Rosie's margarita - mezcal, tequila, dry curacao & serrano lime). Alex was a delight as our server. I ordered the huevos tirados from the brunch menu (scrambled eggs, black beans, salsa, queso fresco & tortillas) that were amazingly fresh and delicious. The pechuga rostizada (grilled chicken breast with avocado, tomatillo salsa) was super tender. We finished with the Mexican sundae (mini churros, caramel gelato, chocolate sauce) that capped off a wonderful, fun meal.

Great ambience but disappointed with the food

By Sofia K |

After reading the many good reviews we decided to have our friends reunion dinner here. The place is very nice, I like the tortilla station in the middle of the restaurant where you can see them making fresh tortillas. The margaritas were great but unfortunately we were all disappointed with the food. They charged $2 for a little bowl of salsa which wasn't even good. They didn't say it was an extra charge when we asked for salsas. How can a Mexican restaurant be charging for salsa? That's a given in Mexican food. The pozole was just ok. The Gordita de Chicharrón was not good, it didn't have much flavor. The Chicharrón de queso came with a peanut salsa which was actually strange, not recommended. Never seen this peanut salsa in Mexico. The tacos were bland. I make my own salsas and Mexican food from scratch and have had a lot of Mexican food so I was very disappointed. We were a group of 8 and nobody really liked their dishes. They lacked flavor. I hope they improve because the staff and place is great.

Excellent Mexican food and wonderful margaritas

By Philippe D |

Went there with friends and everything was perfect. We sampled and shared regular and weird stuff (octopus salad, cauliflower salad, mixed grill -all was good and tasty. Only regret - we should have ordered a margarita pitcher instead of single glasses, because they are so good it's difficult to stick to just one ! And the settings are really cool too.

Nice ambiance and food

By Csaba M |

Especially liked the fish tacos, and the other tacos in general. Decent amount of chips and salsa at the beginning. The cinnamon brewed coffee was also really tasty. Very reasonable prices too.

Best eats all trip

By Clinehodge |

The margaritas are fantastic. The guacamole was the best. The food was delicious. Highly recommend if in NYC.

New Mexican Spot, Rosie's

By sprungonfood |

So, one of the cuisines I could eat just about everyday, is Mexican food. I love the flavors, the dishes, the drinks, all of it. Now, it’s appropriate to post this on Cinco de Mayo, but newly opened, Rosie’s in the East Village, is definitely a restaurant worth visiting on any day. I actually remember this space when it was occupied by another restaurant, but everything from menu to aesthetic is different. Set in a dimly lit, casual, yet classy, setting, tables surround an island, rimmed by bar seats to watch cooking and tortilla making happen in front of your eyes. It’s like dinner and show all in one. To drink, I ordered El Diablo (serrano-infused Galle 23 tequila, creme de cassis, housemade ginger soda, fresh lime). I really enjoyed this drink. You get hit with a really nice heat right off the start, with almost a bit of a smokiness that a Mezcal has. It’s slightly bitter, but has a little sweetness at the tail end, and definitely refreshing. Then to start, of course, had to order Guacamole and Chips (onion, cilantro, radishes). I’m pretty much a chips and guac connoisseur (you can come over and check out my certificates and awards), and I have to say that I really loved theirs. The chips are perfectly crisp, with the right balance of salt, and the guac is fresh, flavorful, great consistency and texture, and I really enjoyed the julienne radishes on the top for a crispness and crunch. There are entree portions, but many of the items are more small plates, or dishes to be shared, so I ordered a couple things to get a tasting. I ordered one of my most favorite dishes, octopus, and had their Ensalada De Pulpo (Veracruz-style octopus salad, avocado, olives, capers, mayonesa). Ok, so, I usually really don’t like mayo, but I was surprised at how much I loved it in this dish. You get that this is a Mexican restaurant, but you definitely see the Mediterranean influence here with the olives and capers, which is always a really nice contrast and balance for octopus, I think. The octopus itself was perfection, tender, a little char, and flavorful. If this came in a double portion (or, if I just ordered two of these), I would have been completely happy with this as a meal. But, I saved room to try more, which, you should probably do on your first visit anyway. Next, I had their Pescado Tacos (beer-battered merluza, chipotle-lime mayonesa). Loved these small but mighty tacos. The only thing I’ll say, is that they’re packed so fully, but only have one tortilla holding it all together, which, after much experience with soft shell tacos, know that they’re not always able to keep it all together. I did a pretty decent job, and I wouldn’t want them to not be piled so generously, but, perhaps a second tortilla on there would make it more secure. But, back to the flavor. The fish is light, and coated in a rich, crunchy batter, counteracted by a little pile of fresh slaw topped with a creamy, and slightly spicy, mayo. You can read my full review with photos at http://sprungonfood.com/2015/05/05/rosies/

Great find with great veg options

By Avi S |

Went for brunch on New Years Day with another couple and we all had a great experience. We had made a reservation and were seated promptly when we arrived. There was copious still and sparkling water, and our server was very friendly and attentive. The decor is lovely-- not overdone, but nicer than your average casual Mexican place. There were a number of delicious vegetarian options, and the prices were all quite reasonable (in the $14 range). We loved it and will definitely be back.

Not what you might expect

By Victor S |

We dropped in here on a rainy night because it was close and warm. It looks like your typical guacamole, chips and cheap tequila kind of joint, geared towards big crowds. Was I ever wrong. There is a serious chef producing delicious, interesting Mexican fare. They make their tortillas by hand. The salsas are excellent. I even ordered fish and it was superb, fresh and flavorful. The list of Mezcals was outstanding (loved the Santa Pedrera our waiter recommended). Worth a trip.

Great find for Mexican food!

By FormerWorldTraveller |

Great restaurant for lunch, but not if you're in a hurry. Food was extremely tasty and not Tex-Mex. Servers were a bit slow and we had to flag them down more than once to get anything. It does have a great indoor-outdoor vibe, but you might want to check if they're doing construction on the side street and ask for a table on the other side of the restaurant. I had the torta de carnides (pulled pork sandwich) and it was delicious and savory but messy to eat. The guac and chips were excellent.

Authentic food, spirited scene

Wonderful and authentic food. Cocktails and cool fresh water on this hot summer night were refreshing. The service and hosts were exceptional and the food came quickly enough. We were not rushed to leave and there was a fun buzz at the bar and throughout the restaurant. Great experience.

Upmarket Mexican !

Very good Mexican in NYC. Wide range of options for vegetarians. Friendly & accommodative staff. Good drink selections. Awesome cocktails. Ventured out here for dinner on a weeknight.

Great traditional Mexican food in al fresco E. Village restaurant

By Ngreig |

We had delicious dinner and sat on the terrace though the restaurant is open at the side so a nice breeze blows through . Very large selection of Mexican dishes - we had a salad with peaches (very good) , crispy fish tacos (good) , whole rougy fish Veracruz style with tortillas on side ( superb) , crabs in spicy sauce ( great ) , coconut cake ( great) , caramel flan ( ok) , churros ( amazing) with chocolate sauce. Very good value . Great service from our waitress Taylor. Big selection of tequila and mezcals and good margaritas. Perfect summer spot in the city .

Boys night out and perfect end

By Yarwinder |

Spent the evening with the boys around NY after arriving from London. The boys wanted to go here and they were not wrong. Had to wait an hour so got a few drinks at another bar and car back to enjoy a spicy mango margarita pitcher! Nachos were great, tacos good and enchiladas perfect. Well worth it.

Definitely recommended!

Visited late night after a Broadway show. We were seated immediately on the patio, which was festive and lively. Staff was very friendly and efficient. Margaritas were outstanding. The spicy mango one was a nice variation on the original and had a perfect zing to it. We all got small plates, which were very good and hit the spot for a light bite after the theatre. My only complaint is that the waiter greeted us with water and a casual, "Would you like some chips and salsa or guac?" Not having been there before, we happily responded, "Sure, that'd be great!" Not until we got our bill did we realize that this was not complementary, and that we'd been billed $16 for a LARGE guac and chips. I hate this kind of false advertising/bait&switch "selling," and as a server, I'd never offer something without mentioning that there's a price --especially when chips/salsa are typically free at EVERY other Mexican restaurant I've ever been to-- and then to charge us for the large size seems even more dishonest.

Authentic Mexican with great service

By Adam |

From the moment we walked in for "date night" I knew Rosie's was going to be a good choice. The ambiance reminded us of rural a Yucatan experience meets NYC. Fantastic drinks (tequila of course) and spicy food to keep your senses happy. Great prices for quality food and great service. Waiter David C made the night great and the management team solidified our confidence in the staff. Will return soon. Thanks for a great dinner.

Here we are in Mexico

By Alessandra P |

Entering this place is like feeling transported instantly to Mexico. Very kind staff guys and great food. If you love Mexican food you should take a break in this quaint place. Do not be fooled from the outside, inside it is very cozy. We were pampered and greeted with authentic smiles. We ate tacos and other typical delicacies. We paid a fair price. Highly recommended

Fun place w/ great Margaritas

By JPH840 |

Fun Mexican place w/ a great location at 2nd & 2nd in the East Village. Food is good, Margaritas are great! You can sit inside or out. Has a funky vibe and the wait staff are friendly and helpful. Been there several times and I’m sure we’ll be back as we hang out in that neighborhood quite a bit.

Great vibe, solid food, good price

By El Dorado |

I like Rosie's a lot, very fun and festive spot. The brunch menu isn't fantastic but that's not their fault, that's the Mexican food category's fault lol. It's not that expensive and when it's nice out there is a wonderful summer vibe. It's also kind of difficult to link Oaxacan food we gringos love with the new cool, hip mexican restaurant vibe that's often overpriced for worse food. I believe Rosie's does so successfully, highly recommend.

Great place!

By Mark |

The food is very good, the staff are very friendly and helpful and can explain and recommend dishes if you are unsure what to order. There’s a great modern vibe to the place and excellent service. I travelled from the UK and met resident family here and glad I picked this place to meet. All in all a great restaurant and staff and highly recommended.

Fun night at Rosie’s Mexican

Rosie’s is located on the corner at 2nd Ave. it’s a Mexican restaurant and very enjoyable. Took care of allergies. Food and drinks are plentiful.

Great atmosphere and very good Mexican food

By Ngreig |

Have been here several times - always very good food and service . We had guacamole , various tacos, and delicious carnitas of pork with tortillas . Very good Margeritas. I have had seafood in the past and it was excellent . Lively atmosphere . Can't wait to go back .

Great food, great patio, awesome service

By Fred R |

My wife and I had a great experience at Rosie's. Great margaritas, great food, but even better service. Rosie was our server and made it a great experience. Great vibe inside and a great patio for outside dining.

Lovely

Our favorite Mexican in NYC. Had a great dinner here. Interesting menu, good food quality and great service. Given that NYC restaurants generally tend to be a bit commercial, Rosie's has actually quite an authentic vibe. Definitely recommended. Summer outdoor seating particularly recommended.

Very disappointing

By archna92 |

I saw a picture of food posted on someone’s Instagram page and decided to take my friends because it looked so good. Let me be the first to say the picture was quite deceiving. I’m a foodie and absolutely love tacos and the tacos here were awful. First we ordered a pitcher of the watermelon margarita and were instantly disappointed. Luckily the waitress took the pitcher back and we ordered separate drinks. She told us they were a straw-less restaurant and comes to find out she lied. I got up and got straws for the table from the bartender. I love guacamole and chips and the chips were very salty and the guacamole was not even tasty. The best part of my meal was the torte de aquacate, which even that was still not “omg!” In all honesty I would not ever recommend this place to anyone for either drinks or food. Also, the customer service was not up to par either.

David is a hero who works at Rosies!

By JRenfrew |

Today, May 9, 2017, the NY Times had a story on how a stranger jumped down to the tracks to save a homeless man who had just fallen off the platform in the subway station. David works part time at Rosies, a restaurant near the 2nd street subway station, and was very brave to act quickly and save this man! I have yet to eat at Rosies but now will be sure to go there as they have a true hero on staff!

Awesome Gem!

Rosie's is an amazing date spot nestled right in the East Village! Would recommend to friends, couples, or anyone looking for good food and a great atmosphere.

Great margaritas, tacos, ambiance and service. Seasonal changes to menu are always good. Awesome low key, casual and fun vibe. Great value for the price. A favorite! ❤️

Based in the East Village this is a fun lively Mexican restaurant with great food, drinks and service ...what more could you want..

Listen To The Bartenders: They Know !

By Tom L |

We showed up on a Saturday night. The place was jammed. We had no reservations. A table would be thirty to forty minutes we were told. Just as we were about to depart two seats at the bar appeared. We grabbed them. Rosie's is a very popular place. It tends to have a younger age crowd. It had good energy. The noise level was high. Lighting is subdued. Music is fun. In the middle of the restaurant there is an area where staff roll out tortillas. We looked through the menu over chips and salsa plus a couple beers. The folks behind the bar were unequivocal in their recommendations. The two best items on the menu were the pork shank and pollo Tehuacan. We had to go with these. The woman behind the bar told us that the first time she had the chicken she wept. It was just the way her grandmother made it. The pork shank easily tore away from the bone into pulled pork and I was able to assemble tacos with it. Both dishes were very substantial. Do NOT order side dishes unless you are extremely hungry. We had a very pleasant evening sitting at the bar. The were friendly and guided us in the right direction. We had a couple more beers and our total bill was $81 before tip. Great value we thought.

Great drinks and food.

Nice outdoor eating in great neighborhood. Great staff, drinks, food choices. Awesome place to hang out and enjoy the city.

Awesome drinks, food, and staff

By FernandoIglesiasGarc |

The drinks made with tequila or mezcal and fruity flavours are great. The food is great too, I tasted the chicken and was gladly surprised by the sauce that came with it. Staff are friendly and you will likely find someone to chat in Spanish if you wish so. Must go!

Comfortable Dining

By Guy P |

Came here in a Monday evening for a quiet dinner with family. Very cordial and friendly staff. Relatively small menu, but with great selections that can serve varying preferences. Chorizo tacos wee great as well as the cauliflower salad, the guacamole, and the battered shrimp. Espresso not bad but a little weak. Prices were very reasonable. Atmosphere was lively but not too loud. Would come back again.

Best Margarita in NYC

By Joe L |

Could it be the best - maybe you need to judge and going to the happy hour is a great way to try several. More importantly the food is terrific. And not just cookie cutter. There are lots of interesting choices on the menu. Our group has had tacos. Enchiladas and a number of other things. Go for the margarita. Stay for the food. Be adventurous.

Great food and good value

By anorth52 |

The service was friendly and efficient. Great guacamole and excellent tacos. We were very impressed and we will definitely be coming back.

A little disappointed

By FrankCGlazer |

EXCELLENT service; Sam was outstanding. The meat platter had very tough meat! It made the taste of it hard to appreciate as it was sooo chewy. The drinks were great, margaritas and their special iced tea.

Excellent food and service

By Cora W |

We went for dinner on a Monday night, recommended by a friend. Our waiter was very friendly and helpfull and the prices were nice. The food was excellent, Not too hot but still spicy. It felt authentic.

Love, love this cantina!

By Camila120428 |

We shared the Oaxaca style grilled meats platter which had generous servings of thin well seasoned pork, juicy and spicy sausages, dried beef, all grilled, and a salad of cucumber and turnip and, my favorite, grilled cheese. It was for two but it could have easily served 3 people. We also had a taco each to start. We couldn't resist the soft shell crab which was really good. I had a glass of classic margarita which made the experience even better. The service staff were all pleasant and attentive. I will definitely go back.

Absolutely A-1!!

By jkev8128 |

My son & I chose Rosie’s for a Mexican repast after an evening of ice skating up in Bryant Park (also recommended!). The staff, the service, the food, the atmosphere were all excellent. Probably the best Mexican dinner I’ve *ever* had. Honestly. We shared a pitcher of first-rate Margaritas and dined on a variety of tacos. Dunno why, but I even took a pic of my plate. Bad idea: now every time I look at that photo I get insanely hungry for another Rosie dish... but I live in the DC area not NYC, so my commute’s an Amtrak away, not a cab ride. Bummah. I really miss Rosie’s. I can’t recommend the place strongly enough!

Absolutely yes!

By Flaco1976 |

We were in the area and found this fun, cool restaurant. Food is lovely, staff is very kind and everything was delicious. Next time in NY we'll be back for sure, try: tacos al pastor, tres leches dessert and the coffe!

Authentic Mexican Cuisine

By skylinelady |

What a fantastic evening. Here is everything simply delicious. Great Mexican food and delicious Margaritas. Great dishes at East Villages Mexican Rosie's. Where you can watch the food preparation through the central kitchen. Indoor and outdoor seating. Rounded off by really fair prices. Do not forget to take one of the temporary tattoos. Just ask the really friendly and helpful staff. Open hours Mo-Fr 12pm-12am; Sa-Su 11am-4pm & 5pm-12am

Great Mexican in NYC! Atmosphere, food and Drinks were all Amazing!

By ApprovedbyCraig |

This was highly recommended by friend and Chef Chester Gerl ( he helped open a few places in NYC) this is a must if you like great margaritas and Mexican food done right! Special thank you to Chef Andrade for coming out and saying hi to us and treating to a special treat!

Nice tacos in relaxed atmosphere

By Joakim P |

I went here for some tacos and the staff were really friendly. The tacos were tasty and they had some interesting varieties to choose from. I had three, which was enough for lunch. The plates were flat and the tacos were juicy, so it got a bit messy while eating. Make sure you have your napkins ready before digging in!

Good Choice for Groups in Noho.

Reliable good Mexican cooking in a nice setting. Good service and vibe. Tacos, Enceladus, all good. This is a good family and group restaurant.

The best

My alltime favorite place in Manhattan. Try the Rosie's margarita it's amazing! Or get a bowl when with many. And the queso fondido is an absolute must-eat

They actually make their own tortillas

By Yjyj2 |

We had a great new year's lunch at Rosie's, close to the central tortilla making station which was very entertaining. Tortillas were amazing, food was great.

Late Supper

By Hayzi111 |

Popped in on a Tuesday night as the place was jumping. Strange experience at the front desk with 4 or 5 people standing around it (employees I think) Service was outstanding but veggie tacos were bland and fish tacos not particularly well seasoned. Wouldn't be back as there are some taco joints killing it nearby.

NYC Now Has A Great Mexican Restaurant

By HAS_NYC |

Rosie's is located in an exciting neighborhood of Manhattan that begs you to explore. The night we went to Rosie's you had the option of siting inside or out. You can watch tortillas being made by hand as well as tacos in the center of the restaurant. The drink menu is extensive and the basic margarita hit the spot. We started with guacamole and tasty chips. The dish also came with 2 types of salsas; red spicy and green less spicy. For our main course we shared (2 people) a flight of flavorful soft tacos, fish, chicken and beef. Each was unique and flavorful. We also had a braised lamb entree that could become habit forming. Wait staff was attentive and honored substitutions based on food allergies.

Great ceviche!

Creat food and service. The ceviche was amazing! And the price was more than ok for the quality that I received.

Great food!

We’re in town visiting for the weekend and we went here after reading previous reviews and couldn’t be happier! Food was great and our server Isabel was so friendly and attentive. Atmosphere is very loud but it is well worth it. Thank you, Rosie’s!

Even on just their 2nd weekend, A+!

By ThisLittleBrasileira |

A friend & I visited Rosie's on their 2nd Saturday service & it was AWESOME. A lot of times you find overly-sauced & "dumbed-down" flavors to please the larger crowd that's afraid of spice or authentic flavors. Not here! Rosie's does a great job at keeping it simple & authentically flavorful. Drinks were properly strong but not overpowering of the food, and the dishes themselves were awesome. Service was fine, though I think our server was a bit annoyed that the maître'd sat the two of us at a table pushed together for four. She kept separating the tables & a host kept pushing the empty deuce back next to ours. Big Bonus!!! If you have Celiac or simply do not eat gluten, you can eat a ton on this menu without needing to ask the chef to make any accommodations! The friend I dined with does have Celiac disease, & we were very happy with how knowledgeable everyone was in leading her through options. Overall, great place! We'll be back!

Excellent drinks and outdoor dining

By AAEN |

We were a group of 5 adults and had a table outdoors. Our waiter David was very helpful without being 'in our face'. Had a variety of specialty margheritas which were all refreshing and delicious. Guacamole and chips were fresh, we especially enjoyed the chips as they were thicker than most and were something to really chew on. We all ate a variety of tacos that had very fresh and creative ingredients.Looking forward to a return visit!
