I THINK I HAVE SEEN THIS...

By Jan S |

I THINK I HAVE SEEN THIS PLACE IN A MOVIE THAT I DONT REMEMBER THE NAME OF,BUT ITS A UNIQ PLACE.

Desired Dishes not Available

By Tom C |

I am a recent convert to vodka and hoped to be able to try out some different varieties, but some of the ones that most intrigued me were not available, even though they were listed on the menu. I tried some of their infusions (ginger and horseradish) and thought they were good. Those shots were cheap ($4 for 2 oz). I hadn't realized that the other shots were more expensive (e.g. $16) until I saw the bill. I was also very much hoping to try Herring Under a Fur Coat, which a Russian friend had recommended to me, but it was not available either. The two other appetizers I tried were ample and excellent, however. I skipped the caviar, as the smallest serving was $90. No piano bar - just loud recorded music.

Like a time machine experience and delicious Russian food

By Nina S |

Was here with friends. Had gravlax, potatoes, herring petite sandwiches. All very delicious. Owners are very welcoming. Felt like I was at a Russian family dinner party back in my home country!

Great experience

By KansasRamblinman |

In Manhattan for a few days and heard about this place, it was close to our hotel so we thought we would give it a try, almost went into the russian restaurant across the street, but luckily we found the right place. Lucky for us it was happy hour when we arrived so we took advantage of the $4 vodka infused shots. The garlic one will grow hair on your chest, so watch out. We tried the russian beer which was ok, the people in our party that tried the cosmos said they were superb. We had a smoked fish platter to share, and it was a great pairing with the vodka, try it. They have a very extensive list of vodkas, not part of the happy hour, but if you are wanting to experience different varieties this is the place. The atmosphere is dark, the bar is super cool with large glass containers of vodka being infused above the bar. We sat in a table by the bar, we did not go into the larger area in back. The piano player was just setting up when we left. Fun place to stop for a good cocktail, and next time we visit we plan on trying more of the food.

Fun night out in a Russian restaurant

By johncW2717QG |

We had a fun meal on Friday night...complete with horseradish vodka...surprisingly very yummy....the chicken Kiev was outstanding We came back on Saturday night after the play we attended and had apple and cheese blintzes that were great and we were honored to listen to a lovely lady sing Russian songs on the piano

Three-peat visitor and looking fwd to more

By SMA102205 |

A great place to visit for something different to do. Love the infusions..some are smoother than others but the piano playing and dim lighting creates an intimate ambiance. Small enough place with decent food menu to keep your system regulated with all the vodka options that are too difficult to pass up on.. Good happy hour specials..

Authentic

By migirlMichigan |

I recently had the pleasure of having after dinner drinks at the Russian Vodka Room. We were on a trip with friends who had stumbled upon it a few years ago. The atmosphere is quaint with live music. I was impressed with the amount of patrons speaking Russian with the staff. It was honestly a highlight of my NYC trip.

Incredible Experience!

By Morjohn |

There were 7 of us that went to celebrate my sister's birthday in NYC. Our best meal, by far and away was at the Russian Vodka Room. We had gone there 3 years earlier but only for drinks and we all vowed that the next time we were in NYC that we would go back for dinner. It is a quaint little bar that is warm and welcoming. We sat in the back dining area. The restaurant and bar were full for most of the evening and they have a wonderful piano player that will take requests. At one point, everyone in the bar was singing together - it was really a lot of fun. By then we had all sipped on 2 oz infused vodkas and were having a great time. And the red wine was excellent. The pate was the very best I have ever had - ever! The duck was really stupendous - I would definitely stick with both when hopefully i make it back in 3 years time:)

Great happy hour and service

By AKfromNH |

When my wife and I walked in, we wanted to sit at the bar but it was crowded. The hostess saw us and walked us to a little corner where we could stand and order. The bartender was extremely helpful in letting us know their specials ($4 infused vodka shots and $7 martinis). Make sure you know your way home as you can get carried away pretty easily with the great drinks and prices.

An Oldie but GOOOODIE

By DorisBorisBlog |

I have been coming to this place for about ten years, or as often as I can while in Manhattan. This time I brought a friend who has never had Russian food. We had 'pelmeni', tiny meat dumplings, beef stroganoff with nutty-tasting buckwheat, hot beef tongue stew and cherry dumplings for desert. All were superb. I had a 4G (ginger) martini and my friend had a very dirty Russian martini. Our bartender was very generous with vodka. The live piano music was lovely and the collection of regulars were fun to watch and chat with. If you are ever in the Times Square area, this tiny place would make an excellent place to stop after a night at a theatre.

Russian Fun

By Rhonda C |

This was a fun and lively place. There was a large table of people near us celebrating a birthday and only speaking Russian. The vodka is unique and strong so watch out. But there are many delicious choices of drinks from the menu and a very fun place....a somewhat hidden gem.

From Russia with Love.

By Dino328 |

This was next door to our hotel (Novotel) so we said we would check it out one night before heading to diner. We sat at the bar while a guy played piano in the backround which only added to the already cool surrounding. The bar man recommended two russian beers which were great and at $5 each very good value in NYC. We also tried the chilli infussed vodka, WOW.. tasted great and I'm not really a vodka drinker. Though we chickened out at the garlic vodka...?? Take a break from the Irish Bars (and I'm Irish) and pay this place a visit, you'll be glad you did. Ps. The food also looked good but we had diner reservations elsewhere..

Be sure to make reservations

By omary51 |

Be sure to make reservations this is a popular spot. The vodka flights are fun and delicious. Just walk home! The borscht is yummy. We like it hot. The beef meatballs are very good. Ask for Prince sauce. Stroganoff is rich and good. Desserts are not their forte. Service is very friendly and helpful.

My favorite place in midtown!

By EpicureanVoyage... S |

Having been to many a Russian drinking establishments over my years in NYC, I always keep coming back to The Vodka Room. Great place to bring friends and clients to drink vodka infusions and sample authentic Russian delicacies. Can be noisy and sometimes hard to get a table, but can always get to the bar, if you have to wait. There is usually a piano player singing favorites of mother Russia, often joined by singers and musicians that are often in abundance later at night, as the place is smack in the middle of the Theater District. Servers are outstanding, fast and accurate, food is always excellent, vodka selections are second to none. I often have clients from out of town ask me to take them back there. Tip: Sunday nights are usually mellow.

Unexpected & uncatagorizabe

By Kenneth L |

We went there for pre-theater dinner based entirely on TripAdvisor. Although it looked a bit questionable on their web site, even worse on a walk-by the day before we visited, and our online reservation request was ignored, we gambled on TripAdvisor feedback. The place has a major identity crisis: it wants to be a bar, a vodka connoisseur's destination, a restaurant for classic Russian dishes and a theatergoers dinner destination. It ended up as a unique and enjoyable experience. The house made flavored vodkas are amazing. We ended up ordering many different appetizers out of curiosity and that became our filling and satisfying meal. Service was fine but restaurant, though small, was virtually empty. It really is a fine pre-theater dinner destination in the heart of the Theater District if you can get past its conflicting identities.

The food is fantastic, the vodka phenomenal

By Erin |

We celebrated my younger sister's birthday here, and had an absolute blast. The place is small, unassuming and cozy. The staff were very friendly and the food was delicious (the kielbasa, the blini!) The infused vodkas are a must-try and I can't help but wonder why sushi restaurants don't offer the horseradish-infused vodka. It is surprisingly delicious! We had a great time and would come back!

Love this place!

By Adrienne W |

When I walked up to the front of this restaurant the outside was so nondescript that I wasn't sure that I wanted to step inside but I'm so glad that I did. It has a very cozy warm atmosphere and was decorated very festively for the holidays. The martinis were fantastic! The food was very authentic and wonderful. Loved the Russian potato salad, the Beef Stroganoff (though it would have been even better with noodles rather than a bulgar dish) and the Chicken Kiev! Best part was the duo that they had playing with an accordion and a singer who literally made me feel like I had been transported to a cave somewhere in Europe. It is definitely my new favorite in midtown!

Nice bar, delicious vodka

Best Cosmo's in Town

By Judi I |

Stopped in here shortly after our arrival in NYC. Had a couple of their Fabulous Cosmo's. Cannot say enough about them They were awesome and reasonably priced. Great atmosphere and clientele were very hospitable. Will definitely go back next trip to NYC.

go for the little corner of russia - and for the vodka

By theswissbrit |

they do serve some passable russian food but the real komradery comes from the flavoured vodkas. reservations recommended but not really necessary early.

Best Vodka ever ...

Worth the Happy Hour

By A_Miracle_Day |

$4 infused vodkas for happy hour. I don't think anything on the rocks, but this I did. Raspberry infused vodka. Delicious, and you can't beat the price. We had friendly service, and our server even gave us a heads up that happy hour was ending so that we didn't miss it if we wanted another drink. It's a small place, but very cozy. Great place for small groups, or a date. I'll be back, when I brave midtown again.

Cute Little Russian Bar

By James D |

This was not a scene from Taken. There were no Russian mobsters or any sinister vibe. Was I disappointed . . . just a little. We sat at the bar and had a couple of their signature cocktails. We had already had dinner, so just came in to enjoy the live piano music. After a few songs, he was joined by a singer. Very relaxing evening. Try their house flavored vodkas.

Happy hour(s)

By product-of-canada |

We enjoyed this bar enough to go twice. The first time we went was a great time-killer as we waited for David Letterman’s show, which is close by. It was great to take advantage of the happy hour prices, where are between 4:00pm and 7:00pm (double-check their website to be sure). Vodka shots during happy hour are $4 each, and were sizeable. It was fun trying the different infused vodka shot flavours, such as horseradish, and garlic & dill. My favourite was the jalapeno-infused vodka. Watch out for the garlic & dill – it will give you bad breath for a couple of days. We got amazing service the first time we went, from a young, blond Russian woman. She even gave us an imported Russian stout, with 9% alcohol, in a larger-than-average beer bottle for only $4. She was very personable and pleasant. We weren’t so lucky on the second visit. We got an older brunette Russian woman who was surely, and unhelpful. When we asked for the same stout as before, she said she had been working there for a long time and never heard of it. Oh well. The Russian food was surprisingly good too. I recommend the Russian dumplings in the broth. Aside from the bad service from the brunette waitress, the small inside is a bit of a turn-off. I noticed right away walking in, but you get used to it after a while. It smells like they need to seriously clean, or replace, their carpets. If they’re badly stained, you wouldn’t know it because it’s pretty dark inside. I supposed this all adds to the charm.

Great Drinks

By gc1982 |

Bit of a random find whilst out walking around New York but I have to say how glad I was to come across it as the cherry martini's in here were fab, the place has a very Russian feel to it and has a man playing a piano which added that extra something, The only let down for me was the waitress as she never cracked a smile once looked liked she really didn't want to be there but then again she maybe getting into character as a Russian!!

Big Tasty Martinis

By SoonerSteve |

This place is wonderful. They feature many fine vodkas as well as their own infused vodkas. Vodka shots and martinis are excellent and filled to the brim. Happy hour is an outstanding value.

great happy hour or after work venue

By 150nightsperyr |

This is one of the many places in NY where you walk down the staircase into an apparent basement and enter another world. Classic (if a bit worn, but that adds not subtracts from the atmosphere) setting with ample bar seating and tables. Many vodkas, cocktails, and other options. Happy hour infused vodka selections - sweet and savory. Friendly and efficient service.

Cocktails and Strogonaff

By Devan K |

We came for dinner and drinks, both of which were excellent. Our portions were big and we were barely finished all the deliciousness. The live music was a great touch and the staff were fun. A really fun evening.

A return to true haute cuisine!

By melanies668 |

In NYC Theatre District, there are a number of Russian restaurants. I have been to several through the years but this one was crowded with clients enjoying the evening and the well prepared food. When I sat down the lady beside me spoke while her husband was at the restroom. She said she used to frequent another restaurant before it closed because of COVID-19. Before I give the name of the old restaurant she frequented I asked ARE YOU PRESS. The old restaurant was PRAVDA! Anyway the people at the restaurant were happy, friendly and respectful! Service was great even with the crowd and the servers were women! The duck liver pate was real and actually had some jelly at the edges. I guess you may say REAL FOIS GRAS! When I ordered my usual DOUBLE VODKA AND TONIC, I was asked which vodka. While I was enjoying my dinner which was pressed grilled Cornish hen with side, the piano player was also singing! I didn’t have a reservation and it seemed many people entering didn’t either. Definitely a great venue for those looking for restaurants in NYC.

AWESOME!!

By slicktop |

My wife and I discovered this AWESOME bar 10 yrs ago the yr we were married. We decided 10 yrs later to visit it again. We weren't disappointed then and weren't disappointed now! It's a really cool Russian "Dive Bar" that specializes in infused vodka flavors. The drinks were made very good and strong. We also tried some authentic Russian food and we also were not disappointed. Great atmosphere. And the Russian woman playing the piano and singing was a nice added touch! Defiantly not a place to miss before or after a show. One block off Broadway.

Very comfortable place

By Jason T |

Very friendly atmosphere and service. It felt homey and comfortable. They had a lot of different vodkas but nothing exotic. 20 kinds of Stoli isn't variety to me. I had Herring under the coat which was delicious! The piano was a nice touch. And catching bits of conversation of Russians and Americans at the bar was priceless. I'll be going back on my next trip to NY.

Amazing food, guys!

By Elena L |

Russian salads are excellent! Great 'herring under the coat'! Olivie - is great! The choice of vodka tastes are WOW,

attitude adjustment, yep

By maria s |

it is really hard to say anything about this place ... except, perhaps: 'I do not remember how I got home' :0) after a few shots you'll sing Podmoskovskie Vechera ( ''Moscow Nights'') to the wonderful tunes the piano player agrees to play for you again, and again heh. oh well, just go there if only for a couple of shots of excellent Polish potato vodka

Dark, Sultry, And Furtive

By Philip G |

I have been going to The Russian Vodka Room for decades; since it first opened. Walk through its portals, and you are instantly transported to Odessa, Russia, circa 1990, without risking your life on Aeroflot Airlines. Dark, sultry, and furtive, the Russian Vodka Room envelops you in a world of "Natasha's," live singers, attractive bartenders, and black leather. The men are polite, but keep smiling and don't stare at their hot girlfriends or their elaborate tattoos. The alcohol flows, everyone is alive, and pretension is not necessary. This is Russia, not America, and flaws are accepted as a viable aspect of life. The Russian Vodka Room is non judgmental. If you have money, spend it. If not, drown your sorrows. Dostoyevsky wasn't cheery. Stagger out of the Russian Vodka Room, blink a couple of times, and exclaim, "Huh, where am I?" Back in New York is where you are, with two choices: Turn around, go back in, and forget about life for a while. Or, keep walking and face the trials and tribulations unabashedly. I love The Russian Vodka Room.

To be in Russia even 52nd street.... What a pleasure !

By luomweupe |

I went there few times in winter or in summer and it's Always a great pleasure to meet there a lot or kind persons. What good foods and good vodka !!! I will go there again

Russian deliciousness on W52nd St

By bostonbeach |

A slice of Russian cuisine near the theater district. We sampled many delicious items: 3 color eggplant salads, herring and potatoes, hot borscht, and beef pelmeni. Service was friendly. There is a long list of different flavors of infused vodkas. No room for dessert this time, so we’re looking forward to going back.

Cozy 'Speakeasy' Vibe

By MsDotCom |

The first thing that struck our group was the great vibe to this smallish place; was instantly reminded of a locals-only kind of speakeasy place - piano, throw-back furnishings, great bar and mishmash of decor including some great chandeliers. We were greeted instantly and sat immediately, despite it being very crowded - a great sign. Note - this was my first trip to NYC ever, and this was our first night out. Could not have asked for a better first time experience; it epitomized my perception of exactly how NYC should be. The second thing was the drinks - very well made - and a plethora of infused vodka options, including a horseradish concoction that was actually really tasty. We sat next to a table of about 6 Russian men have a grand time, so that lent to the fun of our experience. Lots of boisterous joking and laughter, but not in an obnoxious way. Good natured banter and friendly guys. The place was packed and all seemed to be enjoying themselves. I am sure the great vodkas contributed to that, but still ... Third and fourth are the service and the food ... OMG the food! We ordered many plates of appetizers, and my fave was the dumplings. Loved them so much we ordered more to go for a midnight snack. As other reviewers have said, it is a fun place and different. It is a bit small and dark, but to us at least, not in a bad way. Our impression was homey and cozy with great food and interesting drinks. Service was prompt and is a great value; truth be told, this was the least expensive of all of our dinners during the trip, and one of the most enjoyable experiences we had. ORDER THE DUMPLINGS!

good food at reasonable price for NYC

By joan c |

good service, authentic food, reasonably priced and easy to find. I skipped the vodka but had a nice glass of wine with dinner.

Just say nyet.

By Tom M |

Based on reviews that I've read on this site, I figured we'd give this place a try. I made reservations ahead of time on Open Table. When we walked in, there was no host or hostess. We stood inside of the entrance for a good three minutes and were not greeted by anyone. I walked up to the bar and told the barmaid that we had reservations. Her response was "just sit anywhere." A few minutes after we sat down, the barmaid took our drink and dinner order (no server?!?). She brought us our drinks and a few minutes later brought out our appetizers. Less than two minutes after we got our apps, she brought out our entrees. The tables were tiny so there was no room for all of the plates. We had to put our appetizers on the table next to ours to make room for our entrees. Luckily, there were no people sitting next to us. The food was decent, but we weren't blown away at all. The overall atmosphere in the place was just not very friendly. Also, they had live music, a guy playing the piano. After he played one tune, he sat down at the bar and had dinner. Not a good value for what we spent. We won't be back.

Great drinks, food and music - Recommended!

By tjd |

Was looking for a place that is more interesting than the hotel bar to have a drink. And this was it! A web search for the best martinis revealed the Russian Vodka Room. Just 4 blocks away - so convenient that we had to go. It's away from the bright lights and glitz of Times Square - perfect! We weren't sure on the first glance from the outside, but, once we stepped in - a real treat awaited. A great selection of vodkas, including a large number of house made infused vodkas. More on that later. As for drinks - try the Filthy Russian Martini - so wonderfully smooth and delicious, with gorgonzola stuffed olives. The dark Russian beer was malty and smooth. The Russian dumplings (potato) with sautéed onions and sour cream were heavenly! Bartender was very friendly and helpful with our questions. A woman was playing piano and singing - made for great ambience. She had an incredible voice. To top off the evening - shots of raspberry infused vodka were just delicious! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will be back next time we are in Times Square. Reasonably priced. Recommended. https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g60763-d548553-r527123380-Russian_Vodka_Room-New_York_City_New_York.html#

Fun place

RVR is an institution for Russians, although American crowd loves it too. Good food, great drinks and vodka infusions, cool and cooky vibe. Sure, check it out!

Interesting lounge

By BillInNJ |

Wide selection of vodkas and the atmosphere was great. Friendly service. Prices were very reasonable. Did not order the food, but it seemed to go over well with those that did. Worth stopping in!

Favorite bar in NYC!

By awiggins7 |

I took my friend that lives in New York and she had never been there before, but said she will remember it from now on. So, it's more of a very local neighborhood place, but a great atmosphere and good deals. It would be a great place to go before or after a show since you are right in the theater district. Considering the previous place I had been had martinis for $19, I was ecstatic for a $12 martini. This place is small so it always feels hip and packed. Everyone is nice and everyone that works there is actually Russian. They also have a piano player later at night.

Very nice atmosphere, delicious vodka and solid food

By Philippe G |

Very casual and easy going atmosphere A lady sing russian song at the piano and it just feel good, heart warming with your indispensable glass of vodka I choose a Jewel of Russia which was strong but elegant Food: Beef stroganoff, with buckweat ( the beef in its sauce in a little casserole is perfectly cooked with nice mushrooms and the sauce makes the weat tasty

A unique experience

By Jason F |

This place in New York in miniature: smaller than it seems to be, incredibly atmospheric, exciting, and full of people who are much more pleasant and accommodating than you expect them to be. And what a cross-section of Manhattan society they are! This place could be a sociologist's dream (who was that guy with the dark glasses, and why did half his companions looks as though they were on the edge of tears?). Helpful staff; interesting people-watching; some interesting drinks. I didn't much like mine, but that was my own fault, of course. I should have ordered something I could pronounce.

Authentic, always a blast, strong martinis

By Nathan W |

The Russian Vodka Room is hands-down my favorite Midtown Manhattan bar. I heard rave reviews from friends and had to check it out. Now I stop at the Room every time I'm in NYC. There's a great mix of characters here and true Russian authenticity. It's a tiny space that fills up very fast. Warning: the martinis are mean and strong. Recommend the Filthy Russian.

Vodka Room- Yay

By Jules S |

the bar is called The Russian Vodka Room and is located on 52nd & 8th Ave (or i53rd). It is a laid back, very simple, yet very cozy bar serving all kinds of vodka (infused, non infused) and Russian food. Happy Hour is from 5pm to 7pm with 50% off drinks :)

Infused Vodka

By HEISTWONDERLUST |

Stopped in for some drinks and small plates before a show. It was cozy, the drinks were very good (infused vodkas - tried a couple) and the small plates were excellent.

Try the shots !

Fun place to try the infused flavored vodka shots , they come in different sizes . My favorite is the peach . I loved The Russian Standard Martini the olives stuffed with Gorgonzola! Great !

Warm your cold war heart at the Russian Vodka Room

By MRK321 |

The look of this place is a bit deceiving. A tad run down and one of the darkest places I've ever walked into, but don't let that stop you, it all adds to the underground charm of the place. The menu of flavored vodka is creative and extensive. You can also try Russian Beer (Baltika #3 or #4) if you'd prefer. The menu is also very interesting. A bit expensive for what it is, but I find that it's surprisingly good. Their eggplant caviar is one of my favorites. The piano player is very talented and the staff there is really nice. So if you're in the area, even though it doesn't look like much on the outside, duck in and grab a drink and/or a bite. It's worth the stop.

So so

By Mbykova |

Had an early dinner with friends there. The place is poorly decorated. Feels more like a dive in bar rather than a restaurant. Service was good. Food so so. Portions are ok size but everything is just looks and taste ok. Eel salad was good. Wine awful. Vodka infused shots are good. Would not come back.

Osetra and vodka!

By SeattleRoamer |

Went specifically because we wanted osetra caviar (lots of it) and interesting vodkas. The garlic-and-dill-infused was good, but the horseradish-infused was the best! The caviar is expensive, of course, but much better value for money than any other Russian place in Midtown - perhaps because the RVR isn't trying to revert to Tsarist decor? Menu heavy on Russian staples (salt, fat, carbs) but the atmosphere makes you not care that the only green thing all evening was four slices of cucumber!

Awful

By Sera Knows |

Not only is the place dirty and the staff don't clean the tables... the service is with attitude and the drinks are awful!! I made the mistake of ordering a bloody mary which was filled with ranch or whatever they put in it to make it spicy.. I couldn't take 2 sips! My husband had one of the martinis.. he also hated it.. took 2 sips.. left money at the bar and left...

Excellent Pre-Theater Gathering Place

By steven w |

Stop by Russian Vodka Room for a Pre-Theater drink at the bar. It is located near Times Square Theater area. Excellent service, drinks and atmosphere. Will definitely return for dinner at our next NYC visit.

Infused Vodkas Galore

By SoonerSteve |

There are many infused vodka shots and martinis in funky Soviet atmosphere. They have a nice happy hour.

Happy Hour must visit

By Sandy M |

The food is great and HH drinks prices are a great value. I had the borscht soup which was good (could have used more dill for me). My husband had the chicken schnitzel which was big portion (took a while to prepare). It's a small little dark place that is authentically Russian! I would definitely return to this place.

Excellent bar, great atmosphere, delicious vodka

By David O |

I'm almost hesitant to write a review of the Russian Vodka Room because I don't want it to get TOO popular - it's such a great little bar, somewhat tucked away on 52nd Street between a bunch of theaters. But this is my personal favorite bar in New York City, so I'm going to write it anyway. The RVR serves drinks besides vodka, plus food (more on that later), but the real reason to go here is for the vodka. Even if you're not usually a fan of vodka, you should give some of these a try. The highlight for me is the selection of "infused" vodkas - flavored with everything from sweet, fruity tastes (strawberry, raspberry) to savory, more unconventional options (horseradish, garlic). You can get them in a 2oz shot, a 7oz carafe for sharing with 1-2 other people, or a much larger carafe for a group of people. If you're by yourself I recommend the 2oz shot - but whatever you do, do NOT shoot this stuff! It's far too delicious. Sip it, and take your time. The only food I've ever had at the RVR is dessert, and it's quite delicious. The apple blintzes with vanilla ice cream paired PERFECTLY with a couple of the fruit-infused vodkas. I also have to commend the atmosphere in this bar - whether it's someone playing light piano music, or some soft jazz playing over the speakers, this is about as far from a "party bar" as you could get. It's a nice place to relax, get some tasty drinks, and enjoy the company of friends or loved ones. The service is just fine, although if I'm not mistaken, it seems like the bartenders and servers make a point of not being too up in your face, "Hi-my-name-is-Christy-I'll-be-your-server-tonight-how-y'all-doing" types. They understand that you may want to enjoy a little privacy, so they'll greet you with a smile, take your order, and make recommendations if you ask, but they're not about to numb you with forced chit-chat. All in all, the RVR is a great place to enjoy a good drink and some fine dessert if you are in the area. Even if you're not in the area, it's worth a walk or subway ride just to check out. Highly recommended.

A visit to Russia during your Theater visit

By dantdavis |

Dark, hard to find, and odd. But really cool as well. About to go to theater? Finished with theater? If the former, you will walk into an almost empty place, but which is willing to server you flavored vodkas, and actually semi-authentic Russian food. After theater? We're told it's crowded, rowdy, and you can get flavored vodkas with semi-authentic Russian food. Whatever. It's fun, fantastic, and really cool.

Surprise Parcel so close to Broadway Theatres

By John M |

This modest-looking bar has wonderful atmosphere and serves interesting drinks and food, all with a Russian theme. Don't hold back just because you aren't familiar with things Russian, The dishes available in the small restaurant at the rear are so unusual and delicious. Plenty of martinis and vodkas of course, as well as Russian beer, all available at good prices in Happy Hour. Friendly staff and convenient location will help to make this an experience you'll remember. We'll be back one day.

Long time favorite of mine has been around a long time

By Allan S |

Love this place. So much that we gave a party here the food is quite good and the party was a big hit with everyone have lots of fun. Food is Russian favorites and quite good and goes well with their vodka. Great spot to go with a group of party goers. Try it and you will see why and sing along with their piano player

A Good Experience

By ghfan |

We came here twice because it was reasonably priced and service was great. It was conveniently located within walking distance of Times Square, many of the theaters and hotels. We were there for drinks and a snack. We sat at the bar, where the bartenders (really Russian) came fairly quickly and were very pleasant. The drinks were outstanding. I had several sour apple martinis for only $4 each, very strong. My husband had several vodka shots at $7 and they even asked him which brand he preferred. They certainly do not skimp on the alcohol. I highly recommend the duck liver pate, which was absolutely delicious. During our 1st visit we ordered 2 dishes of it! The 2nd night we were there, it was quite warm in the room. When I mentioned the heat, the bartender went away from the bar for a few minutes and brought back an electric fan to cool down the room. I was so impressed that she cared enough to take care of it right away.

Great food/drink, service needs improvement

By parsitect |

Fun piano bar in general. The dumplings were awesome - I'd come back just to eat more dumplings. The Persian mule was pretty good. The service was fast after initial drink and food order placement, but we couldn't get anyone to follow up for more drinks or even to order more food. After a while, we decided to use all of our energy to get the bill paid and move to another restaurant.

What a find! Perfect for pre-theatre cocktails!

By Corried13 |

Discovered this place by accident as my husband and I were going to see Cats on Broadway and it is almost opposite the theatre. They have a happy hour daily between 4-7pm (approx) when they do flavoured Martinis and selected beers at half price which given how expensive New York is, is a welcome find! The Martinis were amazing!

Randomly walked into a hidden gem!

By Illini1982 |

My wife and I are from Chicago and were in NYC for a long weekend. We were walking back from Hell's Kitchen and just decided to check out the Russian Vodka Room. What a lucky break. The atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for--an old fashioned type cocktail lounge. Of course, they have every known Russian drink--and they "brew" the liqours in large glass jars placed all around the bar. We ordered traditional "American" drinks that were excellent. We were there for Happy Hour and martinis were only $8. They also have live music at a piano every night. If you are looking for the old time cocktail lounge atmosphere, give this place a shot!

And ...na zdrowie.... to you !

Nice little spot to have a sip of Vodka and a nibble, before or after the show. The place is dead center in the Broadway Theater area.

Authentic Russian bar, generous strong drinks

By duckiebrown |

We stumbled across this bar by accident, lots of velvet curtains, brocade wallpaper. Good choice of infused shots, and the best cocktail ive ever had, 'the Filthy Russian', vodka, olive brine and gorgonzola stuffed olives. The barmaid was efficient if slightly frosty. Free poured the vodka, a bottle was gone after making 4 drinks. A lady singing and playing the piano and an eccentric Russian/Euro clientele made for a quirky atmosphere.

A place I never miss going if I am in the city

By Robert R |

This is a small place that you could just pass by but don't. The people are always friendly, the Vodka is wonderful, and the food out of this world and reasonable. This is one of those places that you can go and feel comfortable like you have been going there for years.

The vodka infusions they...

By Howard L |

The vodka infusions they make there are great. The food left something to be desired. Try the dill vodka - sounds gross but tastes good.

Delightful dinner

By omary51 |

The borscht here is terrific. A must have. The dumplings are yummy, ask for the prune sauce. Really great. The stroganoff os rich and filling. We always get a flight of flavored vodkas. Woo hoo! What fun. Just be sure to walk home. 😉 Great service. Live jazz after hours.

Can't Wait to Return!

By I-am-CruiseDivaNJ |

We planned to stop here after seeing Jersey Boys and wow am I glad we did! I can not say enough. It was late, we ordered the Duck Liver Pate and the Gravlax and latkes. I have one thing to say, I am ready to go back. We did not have reservations (although it looked like there might have been a table for two), so we sat at the bar (which was really our preference). The service was excellent. Bo took care of us! The ambiance was great. The cocktails were excellent. It felt like a great "authentic" Russian restaurant. Did I mention that I can't wait to go back. I think I had a dream about the pate. Go here. You can not be disappointed.

Great date place

By Icequeen54 |

Great fireplace, the drinks. The staring not so much. Majority of the people there were Russians I was the only none Russian and it felt a bit weird But I did enjoy the place.

Great place for dinner ..... the vodka was terrific.

By Joel1951 |

My fiancee and I have been here several times in the last few months. The drinks are terrific, the food is true eastern european and fantastic. We also love the atmosphere and the piano player. Come in and join us.

Horseradish vodka

By Drew |

What a great find. My wife found this place off of Yelp. We input martini bar. What an experience. The bartender was very helpful. They had an incredible variety of infused vodkas. Jalapeño garlic, horseradish, ginger, very interesting. I tried them all. The bartender told me they are usually paired with certain foods. A lot of fun. What different experience.

A Fun Night!

By Patt B |

Whether visiting, on business, waiting to see a show, whatever your reason the RVR is the place to experience! Stepping into a darkened Russian-inspired establishment with the aroma of Russian cooking and vodka. Delish apps, entrees and desserts or simply have a vodka martini or one of the House specialty vodka drinks and enjoy the music coming from the piano. Great meeting place, crowded during happy hour, a great date place and overall fun spot to meet a lot of people. Reservations for dinner are a must. You can sit at the bar and have dinner. A NYC must in the heart of the theater district.

Quick Happy Hour

By Charanda1 |

We had about 45 minutes to kill before seeing Jersey Boys and this place is about 2 doors away. The sign out front said it was happy hour so we went in. We were given a cozy table for 2 and were served quickly, even though it was pretty crowded. $4 beers (I tried a Russian draught) and $4 vodka shots. They infuse their own vodkas and offer them as single shots (order what you want) or flights. My only regret is that we didn't have more time to hang out - really a nice, dimly lit atmosphere.

outstanding variety of vodkas -

By smijona |

i like a good vodka, and stopped in the russian vodka room on my last visit to nyc ( jan/'17). upon entering , the place does look dated - late 70's - 80's.. kinda dark ,mysterious place, interesting. i sat at the bar, asked the very pretty bartender about real russian vodkas. i started off with a new vodka to me , ZYR. it was smooth. during my visit i sampled two (2) other fine russian vodkas - RUSSIAN STANDARD and BELUGA. they were all new to me, and all very good. i will be buying each at some time. the russian vodka room was crowded during my visit. there is a piano player however the sound system needs an update, and the carpet also could use replacement. i did order a shrimp cocktail paired with the smooth russian vodkas - and the shrimp cocktail was good. this is an interesting place to visit in the big apple's midtown . i enjoyed my stop, and enjoyed the russian vodkas offered.

A great decline of a marvelous place

By yakargin |

I have visited RVR for years and recently started noticing the quality going down every time I was there. On Friday night was my last time and I was deeply disappointed. I ordered herring under the fur coat, potatoes with mushrooms and lamp leg. The herring was OK, not as good as it used to be but nothing too bad. The potatoes with mushrooms was not cooked to order, it was obviously cooked before and warmed up. This is unacceptable for a restaurant of this level. Not mentioning offensive to costumers. The lamb leg was also precooked. It was a bit funny that it was served so quickly although I know very well that it takes time to make it. The vegetables were saggy and everything was in an unpleasant sauce of unknown origin. I don't know reasons for this: maybe, new ownership? But I would strongly encourage the place to get their stuff together soon before it's too late.

Unique Russian Restaurant/bar

By Bornabrit |

While up in new York visiting friends, one of whom is Russian, they took to This restaurant , which when in side was very quiet as it was a Sunday evening. But One can imagine ( and according to our friends) that on other evenings it would be packed.Complete with sofa's in the lounge area it feels very European and friendly. The waitress arrived who was very friendly and we ordered their specialty Martina's which were excellent. I had the pomegranate which was fantastic. Then we ordered the cheese plate ,which was huge ,enough for four people. Large chunks of select cheese's , grapes and apples, Yum.! For the main course two of us ordered the Gravlax potato Pancake( I took the advise of our Russian friend in our group) as I didn't know what I was getting,( there is an English explanation of the menu However). It turned out to be smoked salmon and potato pancakes which was very tasty.Yum.The Men had the beef Stroganoff .. they loved it.. all in all a great night..great place and (as one of the other reviewers mentioned ) a great place to go after a show, as it is in that area...

Sort of Russian...

By William L |

My Spouse and I have visited the Russian Vodka House a number of times and have always enjoyed ourselves and, with some reservations, the food. The restaurant is small--yes, it's not much more than a room! maybe 7-8 tables, so the noise level (especially when the Vodka begins to flow) can reach a high decibel. A bit dark and gloomy and in need of an upgrade, the interior leaves a bit to be desired. Sometimes the food is authentic but at other times it appears to be very pedestrian--I ordered "pressed chicken and vegetables--Russian Style," and although I did get a pressed chicken (small ordinary bird flattened out on the plate and lettuce and a cut up whole tomato that passed for 'Russian vegetables' my Spouse did receive a substantial and delicious trout but absent the 'Russian touch'). The Borscht soup I had was pretty ordinary--I've had infinitely better in Ukrainian dinners in NYC but my partner's egg-plant appetizer was a delight, although not particularly Russian. Real Russian caviar is $90 per ounce so we opted for a bottle of over-priced French Chardonnay. Based on this I'd still give the establishment a four-star for sheer "ambiance"!

da, da, da

By jimbobler |

Had seen this place on a wander the previous night. We were on our way to the theater, and this was the right spot at the right time. Great little hideaway with a bar at the front, past a piano and pianist, through to the back of the restaurant where we were seated. No natural light, but immersed in the Russian influence. We stuck with the traditional, and had pilemeni, borscht, and piroshki. The pilemini and the borscht were excellent. The piroshki were different to what we experience from my Ukranian/Russian in-laws at home. If you are an Aussie, and i said these ones served were more like sausage rolls, then you might get my drift. The ones we have are made with a yeast pastry that is deep fried. That said, the fillings were delicious, especially the vegie variety. Good spot, very good food at reasonable prices make this a must visit

Beef Stroganoff

By HaveLaptopWillTravel |

Best Beef Stroganoff in the city. Note that it is served on buckwheat and not noodles...will definitely be back when in NYC.

Went with my son before jersey boys. Being form uk, this was an experience for us. Great atmosphere, interesting session in people watching. Loved it. Hope to return one day and try the food.

OMG-Must GO!!!

Went there for happy hour. They have a selection of many flavors of vodka. A true Russian bar in a true Russian neighborhood. Treat yourself & have a visit. Great place.

My favorite spot

By Alex F |

I've been at this place few times. And I just love it. If you wanna try real russian food this is the place to go. They have their own home made vodka. My recommendation is ginger, cherry and garlic pepper and dill. They have amazing russian style hot borsht and their main courses are awesome. Stuff is very friendly, all girls speaks Russian and English. Very cozy atmosphere, life jazz music every day. They have a great happy hour deal. I always have fun there.

real food and drink

the stroganoff is fantastic especially when chased down with the filthy Russian and the music is a nice touch

Second trip to Russian Vodka Room

By cynbyn1433 |

You can tell how good this is, by the locals who frequent it. Our table was next to a group of Russians who were having the time of their lives. Fun to be on the fringe of their experience. Food good, drinks as well....Great proximity to shows etc

Must go!

By 535unicorn |

This was my favorite restaurant/drink stop over a long weekend in nyc. Loved the dark, cozy feel. Waitresses were helpful but didn't rush us thru dinner or drinks. All the food was delicious- beef stroganoff, borscht, chicken schnitzel, smoked fish & blintzes - just good, hearty foods! The infused vodkas were tasty too- pineapple, strawberry & cranberry were my favorites. Great location for dinner & cocktails before or after a Broadway show.

Great place

By Oleg Smirnov Jr. |

Great atmosphere, authentic cuisine, top service. Highly recommend if you want to experience the real Russian culture.

Food delicious , place needs updating , service slow

By Odessa J |

The food is very good, no question about that. Eel salad, lamb dumplings, lamb shank, chicken Tabaka, beef tongue with buckwheat , chicken schnitzel -all delicious. Ambience is outdated and the bathroom is one stall and tiny but the service is far worse, so slow , we spent 3,5 hrs there and while I appreciate restaurant letting people enjoy the conversation , however it took at least 30 min to get drinks. There were 2 waitress that night, the blonde lady was sharp, brunette painfully indifferent and slow. At one point as she stopped by, we were about to order drinks and she just walked away. It wasn’t the busiest night , please improve.

Russain Vodka Room

By MarkBergin |

This fairly new bar/restaurant has the most amazing array of vodka drinks imaginable. Staff is friendly. Piano man is wonderful. Keeps the music pleasant and in the background so you can still have a conversation, yet you're ever-aware of his talented presence. We tried the 4G - named because there are foud types of ginger: Slice of ginger, ginger infused vodka, and I forget the other two, probably because I was drinking a 4G. We stopped in after 10 p.m. and had a nice long chat over great drinks.

Go during happy hour!

By margaretelise |

I went here for happy hour & dinner before a show. Great flavored vodkas -- dill, horseradish, etc, try them all! Meals were big and inexpensive --- stroganoff, pickled vegetables & pork butt for us. All were excellent. The decor is very soviet-block... dark, dark and dark but kind of cool that way.

Unique experience

By Steven M |

My wife and I were staying in the Times Square north area and looking for a unique meal in the area , and we found it here. The atmosphere is retro. We had dumplings , cold beet soup and the eggplant dish for appetizers and the skewered shrimp as an entree and loved them all .

Vodka!

By Loren_L_1976 |

The best selection of vodka and Russian food in New York City outside of brighten Beach. A great restaurant.

Nice Surprise

By Mersejohn |

We heard the vodka drinks were good, but we were surprised at how good the food was. With as added benefit of a super personable server.

Nice russian ambience

By RickyHecker |

Decent bar located on 52nd, next to the August Wilson Theatre. They have a wide selection of russian beers and vodkas. When inside you get to feel like in Russia, you get to hear russian music, besides all the waiters are from russia and they are really good looking. The service was very good and our drinks were great, really nice to hang out while waiting to go to a near show or to have some drinks.

Fantastic

By Hofman24 |

Great atmosphere, and great drinks. Yes...go and have a drink. We loved this place. The location is great, basically next door to The Jersey Boys and around the corner from Wicked.

Best no-frills midtown restaurant for pre-show/after-work

By nkamenetsky |

I've been an almost monthly customer of the RVR for about 5 years. This place is fantastic - really good, authentic food (I'm Russian, I know!), delicious vodka, good prices, and good entertainment. If you come here with a Russian-speaking friend, there are sometimes off-menu things you can ask for. The ambiance is old-school Russia - dark interior, a pianist playing either Russian folk or classical tunes, mostly Russian clientele. My favorite dishes here: Pelmeni (dumplings in a broth), blintzes with caviar, pickled herring (sounds gross, but is a Russian staple), and blintzes (blini) with meat. This is a good place to bring your family, friends, and colleagues!

Unusual

By Sellaro |

It is hard to define the experience at the RVR. The place is a piece of the 1960's lost in Manhattan. While the vodkas infusion are quite good, the atmosphere is somewhere between kitsch, funny and (old in a bad sense). The service was simply not good, even in a night with no more than 4 tables. Food is good overall. We ordered three different options and all of them were well prepared and exquisite. The music was also quite peculiar and pleasant: many Russian songs well executed with radio dance music during the piano sessions interval(!) You should visit RVR if you'd rather have some fun in peculiar places instead of having an absolutely flawless service in a well decorated environment.

Great Russian Place

By millerlaw1 |

What a blast. Had a great night there. They serve regional russian beer in 1l bottles. Next to this, the owner of the club joined us with a bottle of Vodka before closing. Last time I went there, they had live music as well.

Fun Piano Bar

By Kevin M |

We had about 45 minutes to spare before Jersey Boys so my son and I went to The Russian Vodka Room. They had a good piano bar and very pretty Russian women working. They also had Bud Light for my son. I had a Russian beer that came in about a 24 ounce bottle (guessing) that was really good. A bit heavier than a Budweiser and a good flavor.

Vodka and more vodka

I love this place. It's the Bomb. I also like vodka. This bar is amazing. Fish is excellent too. So much fun. Honestly it is worth the visit.

Fun Late Night Bar

By WhyVonneM |

My husband had been here a few times before but it was my first. We had already had dinner and were heading there for a night cap. They have homemade infused vodkas and a lively group with a live piano player. I would suggest trying the infused vodkas, they were tasty.

A True Russian Bar Experience

By calflyer80 |

The Russian Vodka House is one of my favorite Manhattan destinations. It is small, can be loud, the vodka selection and pour are large, and the Russian food is excellent. I enjoy the smoked trout appetizer. I have been here many times and always return when I am in the area. Stop by and enjoy the unique atmosphere.

Step back in time with excellent vodka

By drpod100 |

Great place. we sat in the bar area. Is very dark and old fashion. Our server was very friendly and helpful. Helped make suggestion on the best way to experience the different vodkas at the happy hour prices. So looking forward to returning.

Happy Hour

By weluv2travel7408 |

We were here for happy hour or should I say happy 3 hours (4-7) on a Saturday. The vodka martinis and infused vodkas were discounted. The drinks were good. Had some appetizers that were okay. The place was a bit dark. I did notice that while we were there, the bar was visited by many women in groups and alone. In my opinion it was a safe place for a woman visiting NYC to go alone and have a few drinks and not feel out of place. No reason to sit in the hotel bar when you have this as an option when traveling.

Good for a few drinks

By Jane E |

Fun place to try weird vodka infusions. Had the molatov cocktail which had to down in one whilst flaming. The bar staff were very friendly and fun. Did not eat however one couple we spoke to came regulary for the food and said it was great, however they did drink rather a lot of pre dinner drinks. The happy hour was $5 a drink but dont forget the tax on top.

Love This Place!

By Christopher D |

I go here every time I'm in the city and it's a must especially if you are a vodka lover. This is a small, cozy place with a few tables and a bar. They also have a good meat and cheese tray and good Russian food. Great spot for happy hour or for after a show. Walking distance from all the theaters in Times Square TIP: You must try one of their distilled vodkas. They are lined up in huge jars along the wall. Highly recommend the pineapple.

buzzed

By Mark P |

Authentic, dimly lit, Russian atmosphere. Many different home flavored Vodkas. Food was good as well. Worth a try even if your not a Vodka drinker. Bartenders were not overly friendly.

Vodka selection unbeatable

By DNCMD |

A nice place with friendly staff. The vodka selection is enormous ... including their own infused versions with a huge variety. The food is only average but good.

My fave getaway in the City!

By sun_n_fun_mom |

I was in NYC by myself for a couple of days and went out to grab some food and a drink or two. I love this bar/restaurant. I sat at the bar and had amazing food (and dessert) and the Vodka. The bartender was very Russian and very cool to chat with. The piano player was a nice touch. The atmosphere was very dark...spy-like. There was a party in the restaurant area past the bar...having a great time by the sound of it. This place isn't touristy, but rather a place that only locals seem to know about.

Great place for drinks and relaxation

By Joy M |

Ok so lots of places near Times Square are over-tourity, crowded, loud, over priced, etc... A friend took us here for pre-dinner drinks on our recent trip and it was perfect. It was a Sunday evening and the place was dimly lit, laid back, and had great happy hour specials. Flavored vodkas, martinis, and draught beer all on special. All 4 of us had 2-3 drinks a piece and left around $55. We didn't eat here so I can't comment on the food, but the service was efficient, friendly & unobtrusive. Highly recommend.

A Great Suprise

By Marc L |

We had heard about this place from some friends who had recently visited. My wife and I love Vodka and small plates so this place had our name on it. We went early and from 4-7 shots are $4.00. We tried a number of their homemade infused vodkas ranging from ginger, horseradish, garlic to various berries and all were excellent or different. We also tried a few appetizers while we sat at the bar. They were very good and the portions generous. No need for a table as the bar was packed and people were extremely friendly and it was just a lot of fun. The bar tenders were Russian as were a lot of the patrons. They were extremely helpful and really knew their stuff. We enjoyed it so much we went back two nights later.

Great fun, drinks and food

By Peter B |

No stranger to New York but this the first day back for week long stay. After a long flight we went for a walk from the hotel and heard live music coming from this the place the Russian Vodka Room. We popped in and decided to get a martini. The bartender, Barusha, was very engaging and recommended we try a russian vodka we hadn't heard of, Beluga. She used it to make a perfect slightly dirty martini and we sat an talked for awhile. Getting hungry we stayed for dinner. I had the russian roast duck (delicious) and my wife raved about the schnitzel. We finished the evening with their house made horseradish vodka! We came back two days later with a party of six and had a similar experience plus had russian dancers as a treat. It is a bit pricey but what isn't in mid town Manhattan! Highly recommended.

Excellent!

Wonderful food & drinks! I've enjoyed their Lindsay Lohan cocktail several times, & also their pierogies (a generous serving!). Very reasonable prices. Friendly service & great location.

Fun Pre/Post Theatre Restaurant

By ifly737 |

My wife and I totally loved the Russian Vodka Room. It has a crowded, quirky, fun atmosphere. Their shirts say it all: "we don't do the keep calm and carry on thing, we drink vodka and party on"! Food was authentic and tasty, vodka especially the cranberry infused vodka was delicious. If you want fancy go somewhere else. You want some authentic Russian fun, come here!

The best Russian borscht!

When I crave for Russian borscht, Russian Vodka Room is my first choice. I love the food. It's casual enough to stop by for meal only, but you also have large selection for infused vodka. Those appletini's!

By fran J |

After the theater, we strolled up to the Russian Vodka Room to have a light snack and a night cap. It hasn't changed in the last 15 years, though the no smoking is a welcome treat! My husband had his RVR favorite, appletini's . I had the great grapefruit vodka and grapefruit juice. For those not familiar with the place, they infuse their own vodkas. Tasty, not too syrupy sweet. We had the duck pate (huge portion!) which was divine and had the cheese blintzes for dessert. They had live piano music, which was a nice touch. Don't be put off by the nondescript exterior-inside is warm and welcoming and very tasty!

A hearty meal

By Sheryl T |

We came here because we were seeing a Broadway show on the block. My friend had the beef stroganoff which was very good and I had duck which I really liked. Neither of us had vodka, but we could see others partake.

Unique place for a drink

By Amy B |

We stopped in here for a pre-dinner drink, mostly curious about what could possibly be inside. We found the Russian Vodka Room quite charming. It's tiny, with maybe enough room for 30 people, and features eclectic decor including colored Christmas lights strung above the bar. As you might expect from the name, the cocktail list leans heavily toward vodka. We had the house mules, which include grated cucumber right in the cocktail. They were really tasty, and deceptively large. The price wasn't terrible for Manhattan, either. I'd definitely come back for drinks and linger for a second round!

A must visit place for vodka lovers

By ClaytonFermino |

You will find a variety of vodka brands in this place, but the main attraction are their own produced vodka with flavored infusions. Make room to try all of them and make sure you have someone to look after you. The bathrooms are small so it is easy to bang your head if you need to throw up!

Great Appetizers

By ggbrenna |

We had one hour before the show and were peckish. We ordered the Duck Liver Pate, Lamb Dumplings, and Iberico Ham. Duck Liver Pate - wonderfully generous portion, outstanding flavor. Lamb Dumplings - also a generous portion, also great flavor. I would love to know what the two dips were that came with it - yummy! Iberico Ham - not my favorite by itself, but with the awesome mustard and bread provided, very tasty. The portions were enough that three appetizers was enough to make this dinner. The service was perfect. Even though we were slightly rushed because of the show, the waitress never made us feel rushed.

happy hour spot

By Kiara P |

Great midtown spot for good Martinis. The happy hour deals are really good compared to similar places. I usually go for something that is not on a happy hour deal though.... and that is their version of the Dirty Martini (called Filthy Russian). It's one of the best I have tasted. The service is good and it's specialized in Vodka (DA!). Everyone speaks Russian.....

Infused Vodkas

By CathyfromFW |

Every time we visit New York, we stop by the Russian Vodka Room. It has a very unique vibe, plus it’s one of the more economical places to get a drink. It’s conveniently located near the theaters, so you can come before or after a performance. We like their homemade infused vodkas. My husband tends to like the horseradish and dill flavored vodkas while I prefer the peach and cranberry. This time we ordered a pate appetizer. Another very satisfying visit!

Fun place to stop after the theater

Stopped by here quickly on the way to a show. Ordered a flight of vodka with friends. Vodka was excellent--a bit pricey, but not surprisingly so. Don't going expecting anything fancy, but to enjoy this place for being wholly itself.

Local Bar & Watered Down

By RFRocky |

"Closed for private party!" Turned people away, but I made reservation 5PM for two. Forced to sit in bar area. Ok, fine fighting party was about to begin. No, party was allegedly starting at 7! I ordered shots, watered down, iced tea should have put my daughter out, nothing. Caviar might be served for private parties. I knew what they served us was lowest quality. Wanted to ask to see the tin, but my daughter got upset. Big rip off! Locals might enjoy going here for cheap beers. I know Russian food and this was a big disappointment. Won't be going back. By the time we left, nobody showed up for any party. We were outside at 7:00 and nobody went inside for a party. Food was below average. Tzerniki (my dessert) was scorched. Not on the menu, special menu for Russians only? I knew what to ask for and why I cannot give a good review for conveniently located bar/restaurant. Posted up to date dirty menu.

Vodka good especially infusion, terrible food, too expensive ....

By visitor46602 |

we came with our friends for our annual traditional visit to New York city. after enjoying for whole day different sides of this great city we came to this restaurant for dinner. Food was very expensive and not tasty at all, didn't meet our expectations. We used to come there for the last 5 years and this time was very disappointed.

By Michelle A |

Outdated and servers were stuck up and rude. I wouldn't come back again if it weren't fir my friends visiting from Florida. It's expensive. Appetizers were editable and good. Bartender was rude too.

It's Russian Plus

By pbadeer |

I simple googled "New York City" and "vodka" and found Russian Vodka Room. After reading some of the reviews, I was reticent, because I knew I would be with a larger group and slow service could spell disaster, but their vodka menu was enough to entice me. And I'm glad we went. Not only was it a Russian Vodka Room, it was Reggae night. Yes, Reggae in Russia. That made an interesting vibe, made even more interesting when one of the patrons decided he didn't like the music that was playing and proceeded to pull out his violin and play his own music at the same time. We thought maybe he was trying to accompany it, but if that was his goal, he was not successful. He bar is split into two fairly distinct rooms with larger groups in the back with banquettes and larger tables, that's where we (and the violinist) were located, with the reggae focused on the other room, so it worked. The drinks menu was interesting (Garlic Pepper and Dill infused vodka sounded better than it tasted, but they graciously offered to switch it for something else (pomegranate was amazing). Their offerings of standard vodkas was the most impressive I've see, - I've never tried back to back orange vodka screwdrivers from different brands to compare and contrast all in one sitting. Service wasn't fast, but we were in for the night, so didn't really have anything to complain about. Menu selections are very "Russian" which makes it difficult to simply snack while the alcohol flows by. Some of the group had difficulty choosing something, and many options were not very shareable - the crab cakes were only a plate of two and each had caviar on top. Definitely worth a visit.

I'm in love

Great drinks served with a lot of skill (martini's perfectly up to the rim!) and little bit of attitude. This place is great and a gift to anyone who enjoys people watching!

We searched for this place one evening after theaters. We had already eaten, so did not sample the food. It would not have mattered anyway, as the place was packed, mid-week. It is dark from the outside and not very well marked. Once inside, my wife sat at the only available bar stool, while I stood beside her. Eventually, an adjoining stool opened up. The lighting is fairly dim, but the long curving bar is highlighted by an actual hammer and sickle hanging on the wall. D'etente, Comrade. The crowd seemed more local than tourist and everyone was having a loud and good time. We came for vodka and had a variety of vodka martinis, all of them great (not driving). The female bartenders are friendly and know their stuff; there are so many choices. The piano player never left his large chair, barely moved, even when playing. During his breaks he sat there napping. The music was however, very good. An unusual place to be sure, but if you have some time and want a great vodka martini (or shot), this is the place.

Loved it!!!

Great russian bar vibe complete with russian piano player and all russian bartenders. More flavored vodkas than i could count. Bartenders are very friendly, and the grapefruit infused vodka was very good, and very affordable for NYC. Had the gravel lox and potato pancakes (excellent) and the duck liver pate, which was also very good. Went back a couple nights later, a great time both visits.

Go To Place for Drinks

By Seth J |

They say this place used to be the bomb. Every Russian in town would go there at least once a week for drinks. Then the smoking ban started and it was never the same. We were here on Saturday night and by midnight the place was almost deserted. While I found their $7 two-oz shots of horseradish infused vodka and "сало" are awesome, the music is just too loud to carry on a simple conversation. Everybody ends up yelling over the music thus creating even noisier atmosphere. The result is that you just end up staring at your partner or friends instead of talking to them. No wonder people would be there for 30-40 minutes and then leave.

1970's Style Soviet Union Vodka Lounge in Midtown

By JoeC965 |

I love finding places like this. Strong drinks, pretty eastern European waitresses, and good Slavic food. What more can a single guy ask for:) They even have a "happy hour" that will definitely make you very happy as certain signature drinks are half price. The food is good typical Russian fare. You won't be disappointed. The drinks are fabulously strong. You will have a plethora of vodka choices and many with home made infusions. Close your eyes and you will swear you stepped into a time machine, circa 1970 Leningrad.....

Hidden treasure off Broadway

By MABM917 |

I brought a friend annd colleague from Atlanta here t give him a feel for some of the ethnicity and authenticity that still exists in sanitized, over priced Manhattan. We went early - like 4:30 pm - for happy hour and had a great time. The flavored vodkas were $4 per shot and the flavored martinis were $6. We started with a pomegranate martini each and an order of latkes (to absorb the alcohol). The very pleasant server also brought us some whole grain buttered bread that had been rubbed with garlic. We followed with an appe martini and an order of the smoked fish sampler - turbot, trout and gravlax. He liked all of them. I liked the trout and the gravlax. The fish was servied with brown bread toast points and a mustard sauce. I think our bill with tip was $65. By the time we left the place was packed.

Great vibes and drinks!

Such a gem! you must come here for really good food and great drinks. Their house vodka is too good to pass up on. Also, do yourself a favor and try their mushroom plate (Mushroom Julienne En Cocotte) DELICIOUS!

Great happy hour!

Wonderful atmosphere, unusual vodka infusions and very good food. Plan a few hours here and take in happy hour after 4 pm.

Cool, authentic spot with underground vibe

By MABM917 |

I have always preferred the Russian Vodka Room to the other Russian place across the street. It's unassuming (you would walk right by if you didn't know it was there) and you can still smell the cigarette smoke in the upholstery even though it's been non smoking for years. The flavored vodkas are good and interesting. The last time I was there, I had grapefruit. The latkes with the smoked salmon are stick to your ribs good and the crepe with the salmon roe is delish.

Really hip little gem!

By steelcitygrrl |

We heard great things about the RVR and it did not disappoint. We went for happy hour, which is highly recommended because the group of 4 of us each had 3 drinks and our total bill was only $60! We had been dropping at least $50 a round at other placed. The vodkas are plentiful and the drinks are very strong. The atmosphere is very old school Russian, as opposed to Pravda which is a little more trendy. The Jazz band was an extra special touch. We will definitely be back the next time we are in NYC!

Speak Russian?

By healthnmusic |

This is like a trip to the country. Everyone is speaking in Russian. We have been there several times only for after theater drinks. Their own infused vodkas are not only a sight to behold but are delicious. Warning: not for the weak. They are Strong. My husband is the connoisseur and he loves it here.

great location for theater goers and vodka lovers

By MakeupArtist40 |

great location for a pre or post show dinner.. friendly staff.. great selection of vodkas.. infused and mixed. Do try the pickled vegetable platter.. really tasty! The beef stroganoff was very good as well. Skip the tomato and cucumber salad.. nothing but chopped cucumbers and tomato sprinkled with dill and drizzled with olive oil... and skip the duck.. very dry and overcooked.

Amazing ambiance. Great food, excellent service.

Love the people. Best quality music, great performers. Excellent assortment of flavored vodkas done in-house. Large portions, authentic recipes. Amazing time, every time!

Just drinks

We didn't eat in the restaurant but we enjoyed the atmosphere in The Russian Vodka Room. I recommend the Red B*$tard cocktail.

Overall nice experience

By NJtraveller95 |

We visited after the Sunday matinee and for the most part were pleasantly surprised. We were greeted and accommodated with the most convenience for us. The personnel and waitresses were great and helpful. The horseradish infused vodka was a great choice for us. We chose couple of appetizers that were both great recommendations as well as nostalgic experiences. Definitely try GravLox special. The main dishes were good tasty and well made. The cherry ravioli were a bit of unusual as they had too much dough to our taste. The only real disappointment was the chocolate (seems like liquid chocolate syrup) that came with fresh strawberries which was cold. The "real" chocolate would be an amazing finish to a great meal. Would definitely recommend to anybody to come in and try all the great choices of vodka and food.

vodka, vodka and more vodka

By aleevskidm |

Great place to have a drink before or after a broadway show or after work... place is not very big, so it could get crowed on Thursdays (less so on Friday). Try favored vodka shots, or ask for a "dirty martini" you will not be disappointed... Make sure you don't get behind the wheel after you do...

Cool Bar

By RedteesMichigan |

If you get a chance you should stop in to the Russian Vodka Room. We stopped by for happy hour and ended up staying for dinner. They have any kind of vodka you could want, great martinis, and the food was good. We had the Beef Stroganoff. They also had great draft beer. It is a bit pricey but we felt it was worth it. Very cool place!

Terrible Service!!

By couture20 |

My husband called to make reservations. We arrive and the manager asks us how long we're planning to stay because she gave away our table. When I questioned her how she can do that she gives us a table and starts making ridiculous excuses and asking us not to be mad. After they brought our meal the manager asks us to move our table because another party needs this table. We're in shock that she had the nerve to even ask when we're in the middle of our dinner!! At this point we just want to get out of this hell hole. They move us to the bar area where we're basically forced to look at people's backs and when I asked the manager if she has ever been treated in an American restaurant like this she had the nerve to say she has. I have never in my life experiences such rudeness at a restaurant. Nasty place and nasty manager that should be fired!!!

Unique Tasting Experience

By Melody |

I've never in my life had a Vodka infused tasting flight and I absolutely loved it! They even have organic vodkas here and the concoctions they come up with are incredible! The place is small and kind of dark. There is live piano music. A really fun experience!

Feel Authentic

By Brent H |

Nice, small, cozy, dark bar. Perfect location for pre-theater cocktails. Also, great to just hang out and talk to the bartenders and drink some vodka. The infused vodka made in house it pretty good, the selection of other vodkas is very good as is their knowledge of vodkas. The pickled veggies are also delicious. Very worth going for some happy hour vodka. The other food looked good, but we only had the veggies. They also have a selection of Russian beer.

Fine Piano Bar, Vodka not good

By PucksterColorado |

We tried to get into the Russian Samovar across the street, but they were hosting a private party. So we went in here. As a piano bar environment, it was good. Warm, welcoming and fun. We ordered a 6-flight taster of infused vodka and that was not great. Kind of cheap taste. Those having regular cocktails seemed satisfied though, so I'd go back for a good time, but keep to a less exotic cocktail order. We also had a late night snack of gravlax and potato pancakes and it was good.

Still Love It

By desiwood |

We've been coming here for many years, several to many times a year. We visited again yesterday and know why we keep coming back. this visit was after a matinee, which is perfect timing for the opening at 4:00 and happy hour home made flavored vodkas...or as they all them, "infused". $4 for a 2 oz shot is a bargain. We've tried many of the flavors, but I'm partial to the strawberry. The Cosmos at $6 (large) are always perfect also. The main bar is dark and small, but we think of it as intimate. There are bigger areas in the back, but we like to hide in a corner and just enjoy ourselves. We always order the duck pate and it was wonderful again. It is a large serving with served on a plate of fresh lettuces, beautiful tomatoes, and cute pickles with a basket of bread choices, light and dark. We also always order the gravalox platter. You could no ask for a better quality of salmon. it just melts in your mouth. It's another large dish with fresh sliced onion, lettuce, capers, lemon, etc. They make their own "smearing sauce" which is not quite sour cream, nor crème fresh.....just delicious. The rices for these items is also spectacular. We like that this is a small place on the quiet side. A lovely place to enjoy and escape all the hustle and bustle of the city. The authenticity reminds of us our travels in Russia. You will find a comprehensive selection of traditional Russian dishes from borscht to caviar. The only item which is not a "bargain" is the selection of caviars. A nice selection is available for these.

Order an infusion at the bar

By cg37 |

I went here for the atmosphere and experience, not the food, so can't comment on the place as a dining destination. When I showed up around 5 the place wasn't too full except for some pretty authentic looking types knocking back vodka. A seat at the bar, some infused-vodka over ice, (I think it was raspberry or something kinda girly) a pile of sunflower seeds, I read the paper and eavesdropped other people's convos....a great way to unwind in midtown Manhattan at a place with lots of character.

Great place for a pre or post theater drink or meal

By dudley010 |

Great place very close to theaters fto pop in for a great cocktail, appetizer or meal. Very friendly staff. Good selection of specialty and flavored vodkas. Our waitress was a Russian native, very accommodating and cordial.

Parker says "Great fun place in a great location."

By Parker Sturbridge |

This place is a great throwback to the old 1960's New York bar. A three piece band combo will greet you as you enter this small, cozy, cluttered beauty of a bar. Your vodka selections are skillfully and generously poured by some genuine Russian bartenders who are both friendly and efficient. Vodka galore, in every flavor...and reasonably priced. Check it out.

Attitude Adjustment Hour

By bambam26 |

We stopped by here for their "attitude adjustment hour" on our way to dinner and had a great time! The cosmos were only $6.00 and the flavored vodka shots were unbelievable. We tried the peppered dill and horseradish flavors. We did not eat here since we were going to dinner, but the menu had some interesting offerings. The building does not look like much from the outside, but we were glad we went inside!

This is a Hidden Gem for Real!!!

By Dave A |

We were looking for a place for dinner near The Cher Show we were attending. This facility came up on Google and since it was a few doors from where we needed to go, we made reservations, not really knowing what to expect. This was an excellent dinner and we enjoyed everything about it. The food, presentation and the service were super and it was crowded.. I would suggest looking at the menu as it is different with Russian dishes. Our server, Regina, was very knowledgeable with the menu and made the dinner fun & enjoyable. The infused Vodkas were super and many to choose from. We will return when in NYC. Highly Recommended.

If you like small plates and quality vodka, this will suit you. Atmospheric venue serves delightful blinis with the works. Casual chic dress code. Recommended.

Unique; I would go back again!

I had a lovely date there once, Nina Simone was playing "Wild is the Wind" in the background and I felt transported to another era.
