We ate here whilst in New York, amazing food, the crab fishcakes are the best. Staff were amazing very helpful had a great night for my friends birthday

Went there for lunch and no regrets about the choice! Service is outstanding, the food quality is highly satisfactory and desserts are high quality as well. Chowder is a must!! Quite pricy, but it’s New York...

Went there with my family as I was looking for a nice restaurant which offered NY strip steak. I was not disappointed. The restaurant is at the bottom of the iconic Empire State Building and offers a upscale restaurant with a nice quiet atmosphere and a solid wine menu. Besides well tasting kids offers we got baby back rib meat, green circle chicken and as mentioned I got the strip steak. It was a great meal, the rib was very tender, the chicken was well seasoned and the steak was a very solid piece of meat that was well prepared. I did not have to leave a “fat part” as it was a perfect piece of meat. The service was very professional and polite and the wine excellent. Based on the meal, atmosphere and service and the pricing I would give it a big 4+ stars!

The service was spot on from start to finish. The menu had something for everyone in our group and everyone enjoyed the meal thoroughly. Perfect location for dinner and drinks before going to see the ESB

We went to Empire State Building when we purchased our tickets it gave us the option to add State Grill lunch for $39. It was way worth it! Jay was the best server we have had in NYC. We had the shrimp cocktail, calamari, State burger. I have never had such an amazing burger! The calamari was the best! This is a must do when in NYC!

We were super impressed with our server and the restaurants commitment to being able to accommodate our dietary restriction, specifically celiac disease. They made sure to let us know about having a dedicated fryer and made us feel at ease understanding our needs. The food was delicious and the wait staff were great!

Had a late night meal after visiting the observation decks. Good food and service and very reasonably priced. Thought that it might just be a tourist restaurant, but not the case. We found the staff very informative and eager to assist in making our dinning experience memorable. Great Salmon! You can't go wrong dinning at State Gill and Bar

We had a lovely dinner at the State Grill and Bar when we got into New York City. We had wonderful food, and our server was very attentive. The restaurant is located on the first floor of the Empire State Building, and very convenient if you are touring the building.

Loved the look and feel of this restaurant. Even though we did not have a reservation, we were seated quickly. Service was okay but not great. Waiter was friendly but we felt neglected at times, such as not offered pepper for our clam chowder (and unable to get his attention to request some before we had finished), other tables were being offered chef bites/tastings between courses but not for us, and we waited 15+ minutes before getting our bill after requesting it. The chowder was very good (would have been better with pepper), the braised beef and the steak frites were both very good (although the steak was cool when it arrived). I would be reluctant to return.

What a fantastic find! Situated on 33rd Street on the ground floor of the Empire State Bldg, the atmosphere is quite and sedate. The hostess and wait staff are gracious, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The food, very good and they mix a great cosmopolitan !

Housed within such an iconic building one expects something special and we were not disappointed. From first entering you notice the things that make for an experience you will not forget - the welcome, the deep-pile carpet, the table settings, the attention of the staff, and the aircon! We pre-booked lunch as a two course meal with everything included including service! Service was not fast, but that was not a problem, the food was all well prepared and presented and most enjoyable. We went for soup and cobb salad so there is much more that steaks on the menu.

Made a reservation for late evening & upon arrival were seated promptly by a pleasant front of house girl. Although our waiter initially introduced himself we were left with our menus for longer than necessary & eventually a Manager came by & asked us if we needed more time, which is when we advised we had been waiting for quite a while already for somebody to take our order. He duly took it & we were disappointed to find out they didn't have any of the steak we had selected from the menu. We were however offered an alternative, which we took. Our seat was near the door & my husband (who is generally very tolerant) was getting a little fed up with a couple of young children wanting to play peek-a-boo with him, as they could see through the partition between the bar & our seat. The Restaurant wasn't particularly busy at that time of night so we asked to move to one of the booths & our request was duly supported by the front of house girl. We didn't order a starter but were presented with a house salad each, which we thought was complimentary, although we were subsequently charged for one of them! We asked our waiter a couple of questions about our wine & he gave us a response, but a very unconvincing one. Throughout the evening we had to top up our own wine & although not a big deal I had expected a higher standard of service from this Restaurant. Another waiter came & took our side plates away, although we hadn't been offered any bread, which was subsequently rectified. The bread was lovely as was the steak, but we had at least 5 people look after us that evening, which to be honest was not good, as there was no continuity.

This lovely restaurant was part of a tour package my husband and I had purchased and honestly, I wasn't expecting the level of excellence we experienced! After a tour of the Empire State Building by moonlight, we had reserved a late table for dinner. We were graciously welcomed and seated at a fairly private booth and ordered NYC cosmopolitans! Christina and her team were spot-on with service and we never wanted for anything. Honestly, I wasn't expecting the selections for a pre-paid, pre-fixe menu---a wide array of choices. We began with spicy calamari and grilled octopus---best grilled octopus EVER, ANYWHERE! Not an exaggeration! Entrees included "Spaghetti alla Chitarra"--- a fresh, unique interpretation of something that could be mundane; and the most amazing "Lobster Ravioli" we've encountered! Along with this dinner came a generous glass of wine or beer. For dessert we chose their blueberry pie with sweet corn ice cream and the deconstructed s'mores---both delicious and unique. This was one of our best culinary experiences of the week by far and we had some really awesome culinary meals in an 8-day trip! Amazing from start to (three hours later!) finish. Not to be missed!

Alone in NYC for a week, I decided I needed a proper dinner and saw great reviews for State Grill & Bar. The bar was hopping, but I was the first in the dining room. Jay, my waiter, was charming and professional- a nice balance. I decided on the burger and fries - excellent choice. The chef knows what medium-rare is! I will probably have another meal there before the week is out - they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was a delicious dinner for less than $40.

It is Saturday night in Manhattan and I'm trying to find a really good restaurant. This restaurant had great reviews, but open reservation times for all time periods, so I am thinking something is off, but we walk there anyway. They are not busy on the weekends, but during the week, since they are in the Empire State Building, they are very busy. The place is very nice with leather chairs and booths and by 7:30 it was starting to fill up. Anyway, we had lobster ravioli, fried calamari and grilled jumbo shrimp. The wine was very good, according to the wine drinker and both of us loved our dinners. We highly re commend this restaurant!

The first thing you notice is the decor which is really well done, creating a relaxing and sophisticated atmoshere. Menu offers a varied choice with a great drinks selection. We tried the beer flights to taste three varieties of beer, all of which were good with one outstanding one. (18 watt IPA). Seafood chowder was delicious as was the homemade icecreams. I found the fries a little salty for my tastes but the burger was large and cooked medium/rare as I asked for. Overall a good choice when visiting the Empire State Building.

We 4 adult, made a dinner reservation for 8,15 pm on our way home from a long day sightseeing and shopping and just around the corner of Empire State Building that we wanted to visit after dinner, and it was a good choice. The service was very good and the food was excellent, good wine list, cocktails only thing to improve was the Irish coffee. All in all nice an convenient if you visit this area. The 4 from Denmark

The decor brings you back when the Empire State building was built. The food was excellent so was the service. Nice experience

We had dinner here as part of a tour package to the Empire State Building. We really enjoyed the 3 course meal. The selections for dinner were off the regular menu so it wasn’t a predetermined meal. Everything was excellent and well prepared and presented. Jay was our server and he was excellent, as were the other servers, who collectively served our meals, bread, and drinks. The prices weren’t crazy for NY but not cheap. We would highly recommend this restaurant if you are near or around the area.

The ambiance is great, the Service is excellent and the food is amazing! We ate here twice in a week and we are still super happy with this great restaurant. If you are here in NYC and able to pay a little bit more, come in and enjoy! You will not be disappointed!

This was a wonderful dinner! The service was amazing, atmosphere was fantastic, and the food was delicious. We ordered three different meals and all were fabulous in taste and presentation. Dessert was great. This is definitely a great place to have dinner at, and how awesome, it's located in the Empire State Building!

We came here on our first night of our 4 night trip, after heading up the observation deck. We did not have a reservation but saw the restaurant from the stairs on the way down and decided to give its try. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We all enjoyed a tasty meal at a reasonable price. My dad had the hanger steak and loved it, I had the seafood chowder (very nice), my step son had the burger (and loved it), we all enjoyed the tato totts and fries. All good despite our jet lag after a long flight from England.

Popped in to try different are of NYC and whilst I would say only possibly just opened, the staff not trained as ou would eexpect lacked warmth and greetings. Meal was okay but overall would need to improve for me.

From walking in the door the service was excellent. Waiter recommended a wine, lobster ravioli was delicious, felt a bit special but not overly expensive.

The food was delicious and the servers are very nice! There is nothing else to say besides that it was amazing!

Loved the food and vibe at this restaurant in the iconic Empire State Building. What a thrill! We started in the small bar area with drinks before moving over to the dining room for dinner. The staff was wonderful. After dinner we zoomed up almost 100 floors to the top for breathtaking views. Don’t miss it.

After spending a morning wet from the ride to the Statue and Ellis Island, we planned to return to the room, clean up and meet our 3pm reservation. Such as it was, we arrived at the restaurant about 1/2 hours early, dressed like tourists. The staff were amazing and Margaret made us feel special when the restaurant was full of special. The food was amazing! Reserve a table, you will be happy!

We got the $60 set menu when we purchased ESB tickets online. Very good food. Friendly service. Good environment. The only negative is they were out of the beef rib on set menu.

My husband and I visited the Empire State Building for the first time. We made reservations at the State Grill and Bar. I was a little surprised that it was located on the first floor, but otherwise everything was fantastic. The staff... the ambiance... the food, it was all wonderful. Afterward we went up to the observation deck to take in the amazing views of the city. A truly perfect evening. Great date night!

Visited this beautiful restaurant prior to going up the Empire State Building. We chose the fixed price menu and enjoyed some amazing food. The choice of appetisers , mains and desserts covers virtually every taste. There are gluten free and vegetarian options as well. The ambience is amazing, subtle lighting and an Art Deco appearance sets a great mood for a romantic get together or a catch up with friends. The service was attentive and polite with staff willing to engage in conversation over the menu or the wine list. Definitely on my list to visit when I return to the Big Apple.

The menu offers a lot of choices. There doesn't seem to be a theme. So I was a bit sceptical when ordering calamari. But it was cooked to perfection. Other plates we ordered were also very good. There was nothing left in our plates. The service is very good too. It has also a nice and classy décor. Prices are also quite reasonable.

Booked a table for our anniversary dinner while visiting New York. The food is beyond superb and staff professional and pleasant , the decor is what you would hope for in an iconic building. We packaged the restaurant with express access to the observation deck at night and it didn't disappoint. Totally recommended.

Nice and quiet place very near of our hotel in Named. Good wine list and portions. Everything was great!

Our son bought this for me for my 60th. It was from the set menu option, but the choice was fabulous. The staff were very attentive and friendly and in no rush to make us leave when it was obviously very quiet. The choice of beverages is really good. And a lovely touch was a birthday chocolate and candle on my dessert.

Great atmosphere, below Empire State. Staff is super friendly and the food is great. They don’t rush you and it is not noisy. Highly recommended!!

We found it quite difficult to find good quality "proper food" in the city so booked this as we were visiting the Empire State Building. Excellent food and service; would definitely recommend.

The hostess greeting us was very nice and welcoming. Food was awesome - I had the short ribs and my sister the burger. Atmosphere was also very nice. Would have given it 5 stars if the waiter had been friendlier and more attentive.

We had just come down from the observation platform on the Empire State Building and were looking for some lunch when we discovered this charming place. The staff were courteous and friendly, service was excellent and the food was delicious. Mid priced ($100 for 2 mains, 1 dessert, 1 salad and 2 soft drinks, including taxes and service charge). My salmon was as good as I’ve ever had. Thoroughly recommend it!

We are a group of 6 friends and choosed the State and Grill before visiting the Empire State Building because it looked cosy and NOT noisy as the other restaurants in the area. The 6 of us had excellent food and we felt welcome! Nice people and a good cook in the kitchen. We recommand this restaurant.

I ordered the Florentine benedict w potatoes - perfect. My son ordered pancakes with berries - delicious! Recommend!!

Visited here before our Empire State Building Experience. It was an add on for our Empire State Building tickets. The meal was excellent. We ate at 5:30p so the restaurant was almost empty, but by the time we left, it was full. The service was fantastic too. Great place to sit and enjoy a dinner. I thought the $60 per person add on was a deal considering the nice atmosphere and delicious food.

After a really exciting visit to the 86th floor of the Empire State building we had pre-booked a table for both a birthday and anniversary celebration. From arrival to leaving, the service and staff were "awesome". We had some great pre-dinner drinks and then went for the A La Carte menu. The food was simply great. The fillet steak being cooked perfectly and was delicious. Throughout our six day visit to NYC we experienced good service, however the service here was the best by far. Thoroughly recommended.

We booked to have Valentine's Day dinner here. The restaurant was really nice, with a great ambience and service. Fo the dinner, it was a special 3 course set menu. The food was really good and the lobster main was particularly good. It was a really enjoyable meal and we would definitely return to the restaurant.

I selected this restaurant based on proximity to Penn station and menu. I met a friend from out of town and planned to have a nice meal and convo. The restaurant is described to be in “observatory” which I presumed would be a location with a view. My friend had never been to the ESB and it’d been decades for me. We walked around an entire block looking for “observatory” entrance. Wonderful door men and women guided us to the restaurant which was disappointingly, located on the first floor. We were seated in a nice booth. We were served warm rolls immediately. Service was good and we ordered the Charcuterie board with 5 choices. This was huge and beautiful. Delicious selection of cheese and meat etc. We lingered over this for over an hour. We then decided on salads which were fine except the vinaigrette was really spicy. Our server brought 2 other options along with fresh apple slices. We had dessert for our bdays served with candles and thankfully no singing. Overall, we enjoyed being left alone to catch up, nice atmosphere with good food. Joseph was an attentive server.

We purchased the lunch ticket with our Empire State Building tour... well worth it! Calamari was to die for, they handled my request for no banana peppers or marinara (allergies) without fail and it was perfect! The Chicken dinner with arugula Salad was perfect pairing. (At Jays request) Shrimp appetizer was delectable with a nice sauce and Burger dinner was juicy, well cooked and perfectly presented. Our waiter Jay was polite, professional, and handled us not being “business clients” with respect and a smile. He took care of all my food allergy issues without complaint which is rare. Thank you for a affordable meal, a place to relax during a busy trip and for welcoming us without reserve. Cookies a nice touch! Many thanks!

My fiancé and I ate here on May 23, we had the dinner and observation deck package for the Empire State Building. The service was excellent. My fiancé is in a wheelchair and there was plenty of room for him to get to our table without knocking into another table. He had the chicken, I had the short ribs, both delicious and nicely plated. I even devoured the carrots, and I normally hate cooked carrots! We hope to come back to NYC next year and will most certainly have dinner again here.

My third visit to the Empire Gill and bar and it never disappoints. Outstanding service, great ambiance and excellent food whether breakfast, lunch or dinner A must for everyone visiting NYC

After a long wait in the queue to go up the Empire State Building I noticed that they had a special on for a VIP experience to go up the top and then have a three course dinner after at their State Grill and Bar for about $100 per person. I was sold! The initial disappointment was that the restaurant wasn't up on the 80th floor with city views! The service was a little indifferent, almost snooty. However the food made up for it and was quite easily the best quality food we had the whole trip to NYC. It was flawless in presentation and immensely delicious.

My sisters and I stopped in for an afternoon lunch. We had a great time - the atmosphere was relaxed and casual, but still formal enough to make it feel a little upscale. The menu had a nice mix of sandwiches, salads, pasta, and meat dishes. We each enjoyed our plates and they were priced very fairly, given the location of the restaurant and the quality of the dish. We would go back!

Visited last week with my friend we had the dine & view package Good menu choices Food & drinks both great Would definitely return & highly recommend

We bought dinner as an add on to our Empire State Building tickets and were not disappointed! Everything from the appetizers to dessert was of high quality and the taste was amazing. We both got the hamburger as our main course and couldn't believe the flavor. The waiter told us that the restaurant gets locally sourced food, and the beef was from an organic farm in New Jersey. I can also recommended the seafood chowder and the ice cream for dessert...both delicious. We received excellent service during our meal and will definitely go back when we are in NYC again!

Purchased prix fixe voucher along with ESB 86/102 Combo. Very happy to recommend/endorse the dining. Easy reservation. Fair menu selection for prix fixe deal. Between us, crab cake and seafood chowder appetizers. Both very nice. 2x braised short ribs - 2x happy diners! Tender and fall-apart. Almost no room for dessert - but I squeezed in the ice cream lights'wich. Mmmm. Then off to the iconic viewing platform - the maitred' personally showed us the way to get there via the restaurant - a nice touch. Sadly 102 level closed - still exploring reimbursement from ESB...

We visited the State Grill expecting it to be a tourist ripoff just because it was located right in the Empire State Building (street level, outside). Boy, were we surprised. It had hands-down the best vegetarian burger and fries I'd ever had. Service was superb--attentive and efficient without being intrusive. The burger was great, and the fries were even better. The restrooms were fastidiously clean and each stall was an enclosed marble room. Amazing attention to detail and definitely worth another visit.

STATE Grill and Bar at the Empire State Building is a great option for a romantic dinner before or after getting those amazing views from the top! Great steaks and a great wine and cocktail list!

Found a great place. Good meal. Nice staff. Pleasant room and music. To come back again. Price wise is fair the price paid for the meal.

We ate here after the Empire State Building VIP Tour. We had looked at ordering the fixed menu but decided to go with the a la cart menu. WE had the Rueben Sandwich and State Burger, both were very good. For fans of a Rueben sandwich my sister-in-law said this one was very good. The fires were excellent as well as the pickles. Also they have a good, somewhat overpriced, wine selection. We had a 2014 Sonoma Banshee Pinot Noir, this was a very good easy drinking wine that went with all our food. If you do the tour this is a great way to end the experience in this beautiful Art Deco building.

Food was good as was the service. A very pleasant evening out, rounded off by a trip up to see the breathtaking night views on the 86th floor. Highly recommended.

Ended up here, thinking it was a grill / steak place (the Tripadvisor picture is a bit misguiding), but this is more an all round grill, that also serves other dishes. And as far as we saw, there was only one beef and one steak on the menu. But OK - no biggie. The food and service was good. But we must admit we were surpised when we got the check; USD 350 for two people (3 dishes w/wine). So this is indeed not a cheap place...

The weather was wet and windy. The atmosphere in the State Grill and Bar was cozy and warm. My table, nestled in a quite corner near the bar, had a tea-light candle burning for the next diner. I was seated immediately, and given a menu with no rush to decide. While I waited, yummy warm bread was delivered with a nice, cool glass of ice water. I decided on the harissa grilled prawns and escarole salad with a side of their home fries. The meal was just delicious! In fact, it was, by far, the best meal I enjoyed in NYC. The service was quiet, understated, and very efficient. If/when I travel back to the Big Apple, I will be sure to dine again at the State Grill and Bar.

A great way to finish up the visit up the Empire State Building, dinner and drinks in this very stylish and nicely furnished resturant & bar. The staff are delightful and food excellent- key lime baked Alaska- yummy!

We enjoyed a wonderful meal on Saturday night. The food was to die for, prosecco flowed, the service was impeccable. We then went up to the 86th floor of the ESB where we were serenaded by a saxophonist as we took in the breathtaking view of NYC at night. Perfect!

This restaurant is in the Empire State Building. We entered on the 33rd St side. Pleasant decor. Good variety of meat and seafood selections. We were satisfied!

This place is a real gem, even though one would think it being a bit pricy and very crowded like the observation deck above. This is far from the reality. With a great atmosphere, and amazing servers (I reccomend you ask for Hector), me and my family had a really nice evening. The food is great and well presented (get the ribeye share), and we enjoyed a quiet dinner. When my mom (who usually uses a walker to get around) had to use the restroom the staff did not hesitate to accompany her arm in arm to the facilities. Please visit this gem.

I went there on a thursday evening just after a visit on the observation deck of the Empire State building. Wonderful place. The staff was very professional & courtious. The food (a superb New York strip steak) was the highlight of a superb visit & the red wine was excellent.

visited this restaurant before going to the top of the Empire State building and I enjoyed the experience from start to finish. the staff were attentive and welcoming and when we sat down we were informed that there was a set menu available as it was 'restaurant' week. me and my fiancee both had the delicious prawns and for main we both had the beef short rib (absolutely amazing dish) and to finish had the NY blackout cake, fantastic meal and the service was just as good, can't recommend State bar and grill high enough.

Found this place here on TripAdvisor but didn’t realize it was in the Empire State Building I’ll be arrived. That was a fun surprise. Very good food— I had the sausage cavatelli and my date had the steak frites. We enjoyed both very much. The only odd thing was that there were 2 men at the table next us— one was sound asleep with his head on the table and the other had his shoes off and just sat there for close to an hour drinking water. Seemed like a fairly fancy spot— so i was surprised that this happened here. Otherwise good food and service!

As popular as the empire state building is I am perplexed that the restaurant has only 200+ reviews as it is on the first floor of the Empire State Building. The food is terrific the ambiance is first class and the servers are very attentive. The prices are a bit steep for tourists that are going to the top of the eps but if u don’t mind spending $30-$40 per person for lunch then please be sure to check it out. Hope this review is helpful

Simply, one of our favorite dining experiences of all time. Iconic location, friendly and accommodating staff, good bar service and excellent eats from appetizers to desserts. Worth every penny.

We prebooked a 3 course meal, and we were delighted. The food was very good and the service was exceptional. The restaurant was not too noisy despite there being a bar. We would recommend it especially if you are going to the top of the Empire State Building at night

Excellent menu and service. And all in the empire state building! Menu was varied ranging from bistro food to more fine dining. Excellent atmosphere and ambience. A bit of a walk to find the bathrooms but who cares when it's in the ESB. Happy to recommend and will be visiting again

We had friends visiting from Wales and wanted a restaurant with good food and atmosphere so we could have a nice conversation. I got this recommendation from my niece who dined here several weeks ago. It was everything she said. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was relaxing and the service couldn’t have been better. We were there for 4 hours and we never felt pressured to pay the bill to free up the table.

Didn't know what to expect and when we walked in didn't think things were going to work out. The staff was very nice and attentive. The place was much smaller than I expected which was a good thing. The food was excellent. Served very hot and timely.

Travelling with a slight budget, this is certainly not where we would normally go. $60 for a three course meal. More expensive than we would usually go for but as a special occasion it was worth it. After all you are eating in the Empire State Building. You can even get a custom made desert than matches the lights at the top of the ESB. The food was very good, the service was friendly, courteous and attentive. We said it was for our anniversary and they made sure we were made to feel special.

Had a fantastic meal which was not expensive. The staff were all nice and very attentive would highly recommend

Wonderful food, excellent service, Iconic restaurant. We did this as part of the Empire State VIP tour - I would recommend this to everyone. Wow!

State is a very sophisticated elegant restaurant located on the 33rd street side of the Empire State Building. If u r looking for a quick meal or cheap eats, this is NOT for you. State is a place for business meetings or an elegant divining experience for either lunch or dinner. The Atmosphere is upscale and bright, staff works as a team and all are very attentive. I had the chicken chop chop salad and it was terrific. Large portions of cold chicken breast served over a bed of cold crisp Napa cabbage drizzled with a light tangy sauce accompanied by grilled cashews. I can’t recommend any one dish as all looked and smelled amazing. If u r looking for an upscale lunch experience in mid manhattan, try State. Hope u find this review to be helpful.

We flew in that day from.London and were going to the top of the Empire State Building and found this restaurant. Not a fancy place and not that many tables, but the service was very good as was the steak. Started with seafood chowder that was also very good. This would be a great place to take your family for dinner.

6 of us visited here for a celebratory meal after getting married in Central Park a few hours earlier. We all ordered from the prix fix menu and were so full, 3 of us didn’t manage to order a dessert. Each course was delicious with the hi lights being the seafood chowder and short rib of beef. Servers were helpful and attentive, champagne was reasonable priced as was the whole meal. I would certainly recommend a visit here before or after a visit up the Empire State Building!!

We purchased the fixed meal for lunch with a bit of hesitation that we might be overpaying for subpar food. Our fears quickly disappeared when our food arrived. Not only were the food portions quite large but the food was absolutely delicious. The restaurant staff was attentive and courteous and the restaurant was impeccable. We highly recommend restaurant to anyone looking for good food and atmosphere.

This grill was the best we’ve found in New York for variety of gluten free meals and the service by Jay was impressive a great night was had by us all

I can highly recommend this place for a dinner. The food was great, environment nice but a bit loud. It is a good idea to visit the Empire State in the golden hours and enjoy the view and finalise the experience by eating out in State and grill bar. If you like cocktails, you might want to try their State Spritz cocktail, it is a bit bitter but for Gin lovers it is a great cocktail.

We visited this restaurant as we were going up the Empire State Building later that evening. The staff were very friendly and the food great, I had the steak which was cooked perfectly and my daughter said her short ribs were amazing. We said we didn't want a dessert but as it was a celebration for my daughters birthday they bought out a dessert plate with a candle which was a lovely touch. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant for the wonderful service and great food.

Booked dinner here as we were visiting the Empire State Building at night. When we arrived it was Happy Hour - we took this opportunity rather than go straight to our table- well it would be rude not to, right! The staff were SO nice, very welcoming and really treated us well. We chose to go with the fixe price meal, which worked well for us. The beef short rib was AMAZING! As was the NY Strip steak. However, the best part was the s’mores dessert - OMG that was soooo good. All in all we had a brilliant meal and will definitely book again on our next trip. Thank You STATE Grill and Bar 🍎♥️

A co-worker in South Jersey recommended this restauarant on the ground floor of the Empire State Building and she nailed it. You will not be disappointed here. We arrived at 6 on a July Saturday after a Broadway show - had a reservation but it was not really necessary this night. Our server, Joseph, was fantastic: friendly, articulate and very knowledgeable about the menu. His recommendations for a local draft beer for me and a pinot noir for my wife were right on. We each picked the fixed price which included an appetizer, entre, dessert, non-alcoholic beverage and tax/tip. Certain items are a slight additional cost if part of the prix fixe but they are clearly marked and Joseph made sure we were aware of that. My seafood chowder ranked up there with what I've had in Boston Maine - steaming hot, thick, creamy broth and large chunks of various types of seafood. My wife said her oyster were among the best she's had. I had the crabcakse which are made completely from real crabmeat and again among the best I've had. My wife had similar raves about her salmon. The meal came with fresh-baked bread and rolls. Her coffee was excelletn and my tea was high quality loose tea served in pot. FInally, the meal was topped off with vanilla bean panna cotta (a custard) with sour cherries for me, and blueberry slab pie with sweet corn ice cream for my wife. Obviously they have a creative pastry chef here! Each dessert was filling without stuffing us. We had a wonderful time on Broadway and this dinner was a perfect ending to a great weekend day. We don't get to New York as much as we would like but we will return to State Grill & Bar on our next trip.

Went To the State Grill after going to the top of the Empire State Building. I had the New York steak which was one of the best I have ever had. My wife had the spaghetti which she said was excellent. Priced right for a nice restaurant.

Our daughter works in the building and recommended that we have our lunch here. Her office uses it to cater special events and co-workers often come here for celebrations - birthdays, etc. She is a foodie and knowing that she is a return customer was a great recommendation. she is gluten free and has had many delicious meals here. We had a lovely, leisurely meal here. The Cobb salad was fresh, good quality vegetables and meats. My husband loved the seafood chowder and Caesar salad. All is served by professional servers, friendly and helpful. It is not a fast meal place, but rather a stop to enjoy your meal in the midst of hectic sidewalks and busy busy people.

We had finished a tour of the Empire State Building later in the day and were looking for a place to have dinner. The reviews on STATE Grill and Bar made it too appealing to pass up. The atmosphere and decor are more business oriented than romantic or a neighborhood gem, but it was definitely nice. The service was a bit slow, but the food was excellent. We ordered the caesar salad to start and the roasted farm chicken, branzino and Scottish salmon. The caesar salad was the only disappointment. Just lettuce and dressing. Definitely not worth $15. But the entrees were all excellent. What really stood out was the restaurants commitment to service. The salad came out with the entrees and after a long wait time, with was not ideal. I might have been a little hangry at that point and made a bigger deal of the situation than warranted, but the manager came over, apologized for the delay and inconvenience, comped the salad and offered free dessert. His approach made a lasting impression on our whole party. It's interesting how that gesture can change your overall view of an experience. I would not hesitate to go back or to recommend the restaurant to friends and business associates.

Pre-booked the time and set menu together with a visit of being up the Empire State observation levels. We arrived 2 hours earlier than the reservation, this was not a problem to staff. They were knowledgable about the menu and with all our requests, especially as my wife eats gluten-free. The service and food were excellent - Definitely recommend!

Husbands birthday dinner booked dinner and a view prix fix menu. For $60 the selection was decent and the food was very tasty. Crab cakes for both of us, braised short rib was so very tender and tasty, cavatelli pasta for me was tasty also, not sure it was homemade pasta so probably not the best in town but a huge portion! Creme brûlée was a good size also and very creamy. The service was a little on the slow side but very friendly and the manager was out and about helping with everything so maybe they were understaffed. We paid for the VIP experience at Empire State Building also and was TOTALLY worth it!!

We wanted a fast yet nice dinner prior to a show and State Grill and Bar nailed it. We made a 6 o’clock reservation after we got into the city which was nice. The menu had something for all of us. Salmon, New York Strip, the desserts, and drinks all were great.

Great restaurant at the foot of the Empire State, we enjoyed delicious breakfast before taking the tour. I loved my omelette and greens whilst partner had eggs benedict which looked fab. Nice service, plenty of coffee refills. Enjoy it!

We visited the State Grill on our wedding day55 with our family. The food and service was awesome, and my steak was cooked to perfection! Would certainly recommend and revisit when I return to New York.

Excellent American menu with superb service and an elegant ambience. I had no idea it even existed within the Empire State Building, but a solid, sophisticated choice in midtown (and off the usual touristy track).

When we arrived at the restaurant we where ask if we had a booking. I explained we had booked the prix fixe dinner the restaurant was empty. We ordered two cocktails and our food. I ordered salmon for the main course. When I cut into the salmon it was very raw. I sent it back. Overall experience very poor.

This was a great last minute reservation, we were walking towards the place and made a reservation and it was accommodated. It is 20's deco theme inside. Service was great, he was busy but adhered to nutritional requests. Loved the ambiance. Loud bar scene, it was around happy hour though. But we sat on the other side, divided from the bar with glass, in a 2 seater booth. Great food, and wine.

After a hectic morning traipsing around the ESB, we were relieved to find this little gem of a restaurant. Very comfortable with great background music (Ella Fitzgerald, etc.) in Art Deco style. Food was marvellous and the staff warm and friendly. Thoroughly recommend you visit.

The State Bar and Grill is on the first floor of the Empire State Building with a ok view of the homeless walking by. However, that being said, the overall experience was great. We had a reservation for 7:30 and were seated promptly. I had the NY Strip and my wife had the Sirloin tips. Both were cooked to perfection and were DELICIOUS!!! It was our Anniversary "make up" dinner and the manager gave us our choice of desserts. We had the Chocolate cake with Vanilla ice cream and it was the bomb!!!! The service was great and the atmosphere was peaceful and not too loud. I strongly encourage a meal here if you are in NY.

Booked to eat here before going up the Empire State Building definitely worth it! The prices were so reasonable for the size of the portions! Waiter service was good and always checking if we needed anything! Quite a small restaurant but a really nice atmosphere and so easy to then continue the evening on! Would definitely recommend eating here regardless of whether you are visiting the Empire State!

Lovely restaurant at the foot of the Empire State Building. The shared steak was perfectly cooked, medium rare, and delicious. Our children had burgers and were very impressed. Good service too. Expensive like most places in New York!

As the title describes...lovely ambience in the restaurant, the decor actually reminds me of the restaurant in Carton House, Maynooth, Ireland, which to be honest I'm not overly keen on but anyway! Our Server, J, was brilliant, such a genuinely nice guy, we had great banter with him. Drinks never went empty! We were in NY celebrating our 1st anniversary and our dessert was made up with a lovely touch - see photos! The food, I don't know how to describe it only unbelievable. Prawns to start (shrimp over here) we're cooked to absolute perfection. Blown away by this so obviously knew we were onto a good thing here! For mains we had the beef short rib which was served with mash & some vegetables & gravy, the beef fell apart, the nicest beef dinner I have ever had. And I'd cook this quite often. It was heaven on a plate. My husband had the new york strip steak, melt in your mouth. Cooked perfectly and just devine. We're not big dessert people but as it was included in our dinner plan we ordered a smore.... Because we'd never tried it! It was fab, quite rich but so yummy. The chef had even put a chocolate tablet on it that said Happy Anniversary! Such a nice touch. This is an absolute must visit. You won't regret it. Afterwards we went up to the observation deck, and it was great as there was no queues so worth working it into the dinner plans. Plus the view from up top at night is spectacular. Will most definitely return!

We visited New York on September 28th, 2019 and had made reservations at State Grill and Bar. The wait staff was so friendly and helpful. The food was wonderful. We had dinner before Empire state building with the prefix dinner. We had I believe a seafood Ravioli and a chicken dish. Also they served us ice-cream with sweet corn! Although corn in ice-cream sounds a bit strange, It was delicious! If I am ever back in New York I am definitely going back!

We celebrated our son's 11th birthday here while in New York, since he wanted to visit the Empire State Building on his special day. I had purchased the prix fixe menu certificates ahead of time, but when I reserved our spot, I asked if they could do anything to help us celebrate the birthday. A few days ahead of our reservation they called me and the pastry chef agreed to make a special small birthday cake to replace our prix fixe desserts, an example of superlative customer service. The ambience, the service and especially the food were all wonderful. I ordered the steak tartare, which was rich and sinful and delicious. I also had the lobster pasta, which was full of big chunks of lobster and had a very flavorful sauce. My husband's crab cakes and rib tips were also very, very good. The birthday cake (lit with candles!) was a "blackout" cake, triple chocolate, and we were able to finish about half of it before heading upstairs to the building's viewing deck. We finished it the last night while we were at the TWA Hotel, appropriately during a blackout. We were seated in a very private corner near the front of the restaurant and my husband and I were able to watch a parade of people walk by the window as we ate, which was really fun as well. The service was terrific. But the food itself was the star - everything we ate was prepared perfectly, including that marvelous cake.

We visited when over from Scotland and just before heading up the Empire State Building. Very pleasant attentive staff and nice food, we enjoyed our omelettes and coffee.

Stopped in after visiting the Empire State Building at sunset. The meal and service was terrific. They suggest reservations but the dining room was not busy when we stopped in on a Wednesday evening.

We ate here as a family of 4. Great steaks and ok wine list. Food was well prepared and presented, service was good. Located in the Empire State complex you expect high prices and that is what we got. But everything considered this was fine. We all had the sirloin steaks and they were great. Exception was my 11 year old son who had teh burger and he was happy too. Ambience was great and we digged the modern, hip feel Would be happy to go back

We decided to have a meal after our trip to the top of the Empire State Building. The meal was very good and so was the service.

Visited here after a trip up to the top of the Empire State Building. Lovely starters, my main was also nice. However my husbands wasnt. Burger was pink and cold in the middle which he discovered after one bite. We sent it back, waiter apologised and brought it back a while later (I had finished my main). We were horrified that they had simply warmed the original burger (missing a bite!) and re-served it!!! My husband complained and asked for a fresh one. The manager came over and couldn’t believe we wanted a fresh one cooked but surely this is standard practise? Anyhow, a new burger appeared a while later. Completely inedible due to being smothered on the outside with salt. Intentional???? Dessert wasn’t much better, completely solid ice cream that couldn’t be eaten. Management not massively apologetic and we most certainly didn’t leave a tip. If our meal hadn’t been part of a package with the Empire State, we would have argued over paying the bill for his food at all. Such a shame after a lovely day

Booked this meal and tickets with fast track up to the 86th and 102nd floors. Unknown to us, when entering the restaurant you have to exit the restaurant enter the Empire State at a different entrance go up to the second floor through security to collect your voucher tickets then go back down existing the building going into a separate door then you can be seated. I reserved a table which was hassle free, the food was basic and not up to a standard to match the Empire State Building. The beer wasn’t great but the chocolate cake was beautiful. The set meal wasn’t extensive and didn’t have a wide range of meal options, if you are vegan or vegetarian you may struggle however this was only for the set meal as we bought tickets to the Empire with this too.

My husband and I ate here Saturday night and were pleasantly surprised by the ambiance and excellent food. It has a lovely honey-colored sort of lighting and is blessedly NOT loud as so many places are these days. Starters of grilled shrimp and fried calamari were delicious- some of the best calamari we’ve ever had (and that’s saying alot). I had the shortribs and they were fabulous, flavorful and meltingly tender. My husband had the burger which was just OK. Good wine, beer, and cocktail menu. These jaded New Yorkers were impressed! Not inexpensive but a reasonable price for such a lovely dining experience.

We bought a voucher online from home in California when planning our visit to the observation deck at the Empire State Building, and boy are we glad we did! What a gorgeous gem of a restaurant. The pristine decor is rife with Art Deco detail. Every employee was helpful and friendly. The booth was comfortable. The food was delicious, and wonderfully presented. The wine list was equally impressive. We left full, and happy, and very pleasantly surprised! This restaurant exceeded all of our expectations!!!

STATE is a solid place to grab a drink and perhaps an app (or two, or three). My office is in the same building and this is my go-to spot with coworkers to grab a glass of wine after work. They have a great happy hour special, with glasses of happy hour wine going for $5. A steal for the location. The staff are always friendly and I am also a big fan of the complimentary chips they serve. We usually come for drinks and a snack, but have also ordered some dinner as well. They make a pretty solid burger however fries will cost you an additional $9 -- expensive however I'm not too bitter because they let us linger for a chat.

The food was very good and enjoyable. The service was a bit slow. I didn't get to try desserts but would eat here again.

My husband and I had dinner here on a Friday night during a weekend getaway to the city. We made reservations for 8pm but got there around 7:30 and they sat us right away. The service was top notch the entire night. Food was great (although the mashed potatoes were disappointingly dry). I had steak and my husband had salmon. It was a nice place, but not so nice that I paid $120 for a piece of asparagus and a dried date. The portions were good size. We each had an alcoholic drink, entrees, and a side and paid $150. We took the elevator up after dinner and got to see the city at night. 10/10 would recommend for a quiet, quality meal.

Came here the night after doing the empire state building and skyline. Busy day ended with a perfect meal. Staff could not have been any more helpful, and the food was to die for, best steak i have ever had, cooked to perfection

Whilst booking tickets for the Empire State building, I noticed an offer for a meal at the State grill & bar. A fixed menu of $60 each. We had a booth in the corner by the window, the starter was the Crispy Crab cake. Just crisp enough without being overdone. The main was the farm roasted chicken which again was just right . The courses arrived at the right tempo. For the dessert the title intrigued me Empire lights`wich is changed to reflect the lighting on the Empire state that day. The day we went the lights were purple, which we were advised by the waiter was the least popular version. It did not put me off thankfully, the purple is produced using Blueberries. I do not understand why it is not as popular.

Good food and great service. The staff was very good, kind, attentive, extremely helpful and extremely attentive.

Bit expensive but worth the money. We had the steak, delicious. Good service, polite staff very nice evening out.

We (my mum and I) booked this restaurant as part of our trip to the Empire State Building and boy we were not disappointed (ok one of the porters of the Empire State could not direct us properly but we eventually found the place). Service was impeccable and food was exquisite. Server and Maitre D were courteous and polite and all the time we were there we felt like VIPs - my mum was so pleased. Maybe it was because a Monday but the restaurant was quiet. Anyone visiting the Empire State Building should visit this Grill and Bar because it is the "icing on the cake" in terms of an enjoyable visit. Thoroughly recommended and held in high esteem by myself and my mum.

On our last night in NYC, we decided to go for a nice dinner and Slate Grill did not disappoint. It's only a 3min walk from our hotel and is located on the ground floor of the Empire State Building. We didn't have a reservation, but the hostess was extremely friendly and immediately set up a table for us herself. Service was great and our server was very knowledgeable about the food and wine. I had the beef short rib (which I highly recommend) and the beef was extremely tender and the entire meal was delicious. The key lime pie is one of the signature desserts and the restaurant boasts an impressive wine list (being from Cape Town, South Africa - known for the amazing wine, I should know this). If you are looking for a great meal, with 5 star service, this is the place.
Excellent
This is the second time we have eaten at this restaurant it’s amazing the food is out of this world. The staff are lovely and friendly and are very accommodating my daughter Is fussy eater and they made what she wanted Definitely will eat here again
