I came here with my partner at about 7pm. There was already a wait. We wrote our name down and went for a walk (about 15mins) . This place is pretty busy but the staff are efficient. We ordered the spring rolls (4 for $6) and they came out with lettuce leaves, pickled carrots and radish. It was nice to be able to wrap the spring rolls in the lettuce and dip them in the yummy sauce. I ordered the special pho (raw beef, brisket and beef balls- $10.95). There could have been a bit more meat. There were only 2 beef balls. The brisket was all broken up into little pieces.. which I didn't really like. The raw beef was nice and tender and not too fatty as well. The pho soup was tasty and full of flavour. The cubed beef with rice was served with some pickled carrots and radish as well as cucumber and lettuce. The beef was cooked perfectly. Overall, it was a good feed :)

I stop here one evening after visiting the comedy club across the street. A small and busy Vietnamese place that appears to focus in Banh Mi (sandwiches) and Pho (soup). I had a Banh Mi and it was very tasty, almost up there with ones I've had on my travels through Vietnam. A good little place offering something different in an area awash with pizza places. Just be aware it it small and does get busy. Being single I was lucky to get in quickly with a seat a the bar, there was a small queue waiting for those wanting a table.

Awesome food and service! Special Saigon Shack Pho was outstanding. Spring rolls were yummy too Highly recommended!!!!!

My niece and I each had a classic banh mi with Vietnamese ham, their house bacon and pate. Wow, it was really good. I wish there's one in midtown as I will be queuing for my banh mi!

This place is awsome! Not too popular (yet) si thst's good. Good service, nice place. Best ramen in town! Really! Not the traditional you may know but definitely the best I've tried. Not too many options but that's ok. I had the one with lemongrass chicken. Amazing!! It comes with extra sprouts, lime, jalape帽o and basil so you add then to your taste. Hoisin sause in the table, a must. Highly recomended!

Went there upon recommendation from friends. I love ban mi and I wasn't disappointed! Service is fast, friendly and efficient. It's a small place but serves great food!

By 6:15p.m there already was a long queue sneaking its way out the door of Saigon Shack. And I know why! The food is really delightful. The Pho tasty and fulfilling and the Spring Rolls made to perfection. The place buzzes with customers. It's not a place that you can go and hang out long after your meal is done. Those chairs are spoken for and once you are done you'll be handed the check. Well worth the visit and for the money...probably the best place with in 20 blocks to get such high quality food. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed.

We had to wait for our table but it was well organized so it went fast. We ordered pho, banh mi and bun. We enjoyed everything. Price is more than correct. Waiters and hostess are really caring! We recommend!

This place was mind blowing, or maybe we were just really hungry. Recommended by a good friend, their food did not less us down.

Classic Pho! Grilled chop rice! I ate here for the fourth time in this month. This is a place you can eat every week. Always love Vietnamese food!

This is a great find and it is usually packed as there is limited seating. The bang for the buck is great with delicious food and quick, friendly service. As noted in the title and at the bottom of their menu this is a cash only place.

Saigon Shack offers some legit Vietnamese cuisine. While the lines may be long, the turnaround is relatively quick. Note that it is cash only. The pho is pretty standard, but the vermicelli bowls are amazing. The banh mi are also pretty good. The fried spring rolls are top notch.

Small, packed place, with excellent food, friendly service and reasonable prices. Difficult for groups to find a table. Looking forward to eating there again!

Bring cash. Wait time is at least 15mins. Vegetarian options available. Big serving. Place is small and crowded. Food is yummy and service is ok. Not a have to hang out and chitchat. You must eat, leave and pay. Recommended if you just want to eat fast and go about your day.

Good service good food at a good price. I had the lemon grass chicken sandwich with a wonderful Mango& Papaya Salad. My wife had the mixed vegetables Community sitting let's you meet new friends. No alcohol service A great find!

I tried the BBQ Pork Vermicelli and it was excellent. The serving was generous, it's probably 200gr pork meet. The price was very reasonable/ cheap!

a group of 7 colleagues venture to this restaurant. it was all worthy. the food was fresh, the portions were big. the attention nice and fast as you would expect. the place does get crowded and noisy. no reservations accepted, cash only.

Mis-managed; cashier billing intentional 16% ny sales tax theft added onto customers' bills; its popularity has enabled employees to rob from customers' blind; hence, their cashless system schemes

Nothing better than a good heart warming pho..... The taste of the broth is perfectly balanced. Noodles is cooked perfectly. Beef is cooked by the hot broth so it is still tender. Fried dumpling is another thing to died for here. Sizzling hot and tasted amazing Staffs are friendly here but expect to wait 20 mins during rush hours. One thing that I am kind of disappointed is the dripping coffee. It tasted burned for some reason and not enough condense milk. Definitely worth the wait. Inexpensive but great food. Yum yum yum. Fresh and tasty. Not need to travel to Vietnam to experience the authentic taste of Vietnam. Love it!

Stopped by this gem with friends for dinner and it was a very satisfying experience. We all had the same plate which is the "Classic beef pho". The food was authentic and savory. The plate was 9$ and it comes with another plate with herbs and lemon for everyone. They also served us tap water and kept on refilling our cups, which was very convenient on a hot August night. Would definitely go there again to try more Vietnamese food. Highly recommended.

As I'm traveling to New York on business, I'm interested in eating light and healthy, rather than having a food orgy. Also, being on per-diem, I want to find tasty and affordable places to eat. Saigon Shack in Greenwich Village is a good place for this. Although it was hot and muggy, for some reason I wanted Pho. So off we trundled from our office in SoHo to Saigon Shack. We had to wait outside for a table as the restaurant really is the size of a shack. No problem, we got to check out the menu and decide on our order before we were seated. They put four of us around a small 2-person table, but they asked if it would be okay and let us know that folks do it during the lunch rush all the time. Thoughtful, accommodating us, but allowing us to decide. We started with the sweet potato fries. The dipping sauce is really interesting, mayo base, fish sauce, heroin. I don't know exactly what was in it but MAN was it delicious. The fries were beautifully cooked, light and crispy. Even the guy who HATES mayo could not stop eating them with the sauce. I got the Saigon Shack special beef Pho, the broth had a light flavor, I'm used to it being saltier, but adding the herbs and the lime juice jazzed it right up. You can have it spicy if you're into that thing. The brisket and the beef balls were full of flavor, the large pieces of steak didn't really do it for me. So next time I go (and there will be a next time) I'll ask for a combo of the beef balls and brisket. Cash only, but the Pho was only $10, so really no hardship there. The fellas got ban mi, and they looked really good. They're about $8 apiece.

Vietnamese food ranks very high in my list of priorities, and I was very excited about lunch at Saigon Shack. Liked the menu focused on pho and banh mi, but found it very Americanized. The typical tangy, sweet, spicy mix that makes this cuisine so unique proved elusive. The phos are hot and wholesome but not the best I've had. The hot coffee which is usually decadent and delightful was also not up to par. Something's missing. Cute place in the heart of the Village. Good for a quick lunch.

Such a great find! I went with a friend who said she loves this place for Vietnamese food. I was a bit skeptical at first as I have been to Vietnam and love the food and know it well. Its hard to get great Vietnamese food but this place is excellent!! We shared a few things, we had a vegetarian Pho, vegetarian spring rolls and fresh spring rolls. The Pho was one of the best I've ever had. It was outstanding!! I want to go back asap just so I have order the vegetarian pho again! Absolutely a must when you are in NYC and want Vietnamese food. The service was great as well. @traveleen_gurl

After we have managed to find a table after waiting for long, we realized why people are so patient while waiting. The portions are huge and delicious. Try out this superb Vietnamese restaurant when you are in NYC.

Seemed like a very popular place so had to wait for a while but it was 100% worth it as the food was amazing. Lots of fresh veggies prepared in a super tasty way.

Love the pho at this restaurant. Stopped by last year and had to visit again. Enjoyed the steak and the lemongrass chicken pho. Brought my 2 daughters and they loved it. Very tasty broth.

I was disgusted by the lady's service. My gf and I each ordered pho noodles, and the lady server gave us a small plate of bean sprouts barely enough for 1 person before the food came out. I kindly asked if we could have some more, and she replied "only after you finish what we gave you, then you can ask for more." I asked again, "I already know this isn't enough, can we just get more now" and she replied, "no, ask again after you finish. People order more bean sprouts and many of them don't finish." After both pho came out, I gave the bean sprouts to my gf, and I had to wait 5 minutes to grab the attention of a server to ask for more sprouts, and by the time I got it, my noodles were soggy. Never did she even mention "sorry." Her attitude and demeanor was condescending and disrespectful throughout. Dear lady, Whether other customers finish their bean sprouts or not has nothing to do with me. If customers ask for more, you should give it to them instead of disrespecting them, pissing them off, and making their food soggy. Better yet, just give them plenty to begin with. I've been to 20 different pho restaurants by now in NC, VA, and now NYC. I know terrible service when I see one. If you accepted credit cards, I would have given $0 tip. You were fortunate to even receive $3. Learn how to serve, please. I would have given 3 stars for just the food itself. Pho was okay for New York City, although the briskets were shattered in a million tiny pieces so I wasn't sure if I was eating meat or bread crumbs.

I found Saigon shack and was really excited to take my daughter for her birthday. On the internet the menu has great sounding food, including some things we hadn't seen before. Were excited to try it. Ultimately it's a very small place, has good Vietnamese but disappointed a little that the menu was not the same in person. We had vermicelli bowls so I didn't have an opportunity to try the Bahn mi but we were sorry we didn't go somewhere else given all the iconic, and amazing food in New York.

I got shrimp vermicelli- the dish was pretty good, the sauce for the shrimps is really bringing out the flavors. The service is really good, but the place is cash only.

We visited for a lunch and the place was packed. We waited 10 mins to be seated but it was so worth it. The waitress took our order while we were waiting outside in the sunshine so we literally sat down and 2 minutes later our Spring Rolls arrived - good but could do with more veggies inside. Now the mains were AMAZING! I had the Saigon Special Pho - three different beefs (thinly raw cut, brisket and 2 beef balls. So delicious. Just as good as the ones I had in Vietnam. Generous portion size. The husband had a pork and rice dish and loved it. Big portion for a great price. Perfect spot for a quick, tasty and good value meal.

Good food. Not really vietnamese though. Nobody of the staff spoke viatnamese. We had the Pho and summer rolls. All very good. The best thing was the vietnamese coffee which was stron ang delicious.

It's a busy spot, but we only waited 15 minutes. They had a high chair ready for our baby and immediately had water for us. We both ordered a pho and it came impressively quick! Not only quick, but delicious. A must do for pho lovers! Our baby loved the noodles 馃構

For me, hands down the best summer rolls in Manhattan. The veggies are fresh, crunchy and tasty. The size is also filling for a petite one like moi. The peanut sauce is good. Whenever in NYC, I wouldn鈥檛 miss a visit. Love the food, the ambience, the street where it is at. Love it!

This was my first time here but not the last time. We had a banh mih sandwich and a wonderful grilled chicken pho. The pho was delicious. The food arrived very quickly and there was some pressure on us to leave quickly although nobody was waiting for our table. Service is a bit brisk. It's cash only but not a big deal as the food is really affordable

We lucked out by getting into Saigon Shack. Quite a variety of food, prepared and served nearly instantly.

Had dinner for two, there was a lot of people waiting to be seated, been told to wait about 15 minutes and ended up 40. Waitress gave us a menu while we were waiting on the street and took orders before showing us the seats. When my order arrived, the rice that I ordered turned into white noodles. Apart from that, the food was delicious and the price was reasonable.

I had the Spicy Pho and was so tasty and rich of flavors !! totally recommending this place!! It totally worth the waiting to be seated!!

Came here during a visit to NYC. Had the classic banh mi sandwich with pate. The sandwich was decent size and the pate was good. The only complaint is that they put way to much pickled carrots on the sandwich. Although not the very best banh mi that I have ever had, it was pretty good. Prices for the sandwich is about 2x what I am used to paying but it was worth it to try. Maybe I will try the pho next.

Went here with a group of 9 people on a Thursday night expecting some issues with getting a table, but the wait was short and the staff were accommodating. Prices are cheap and the food is fantastic - beef pho (for $9) was excellent. Perfect meal if you鈥檙e about to check out the Comedy Cellar next door.

Stopped here after visiting the area on a walking tour. A very friendly welcome and great service. The beef pho was excellent. Best sweet potato fries we've had. The choice of bahn mi was very good with a welcoming vegetarian option. Beautiful flavours and worth the stop.

This place is a great choice for lunch. Cold weather invites a big bowl of pho. They make it all fresh, from the thin, tender brisket and chicken on the grill, to be added to your savory bowl of broth with all the dressings, to the herbs and sprouts, everything is really fresh. Reasonably priced and well located. It does get crowded, though, so if you are there after noon you might have to wait for a spot.

Great Vietnamese place in the area, perfect for a winter night pho. Great value for money, quick service.

We were there on a Sunday night and there was a sizable line. The place is pretty small and there are not many tables. But the staff worked very fast and the hostess was very effective at moving people. We all loved the food. There were 7 of us and we had different types of phos (noodles in broth), a fried crabcake sandwich, and shrimp. Everything was extremely tasty. What's more, most of Vietnamese food is on the healthy side and Saigon does healthy very well and keeps it delicious. My sandwich was a great balance of crabcake and veggies - I loved it. Very much recommended. Even if you think you don't like Asian food - you're going to like this. Another great thing, it's inexpensive at all. Keep in mind they only accept cash.

I visited Sunday lunchtime and had classic beef pho. It was the best ever and I鈥檝e spent time in Vietnam. It鈥檚 a busy place but service was efficient and courteous. A great place just wish I lived in NYC so I could visit every week for a fix!

Little hole in the wall restaurant. Awesome Pho, i got the Combo with, brisket and beef. Also the fried spring rolls were tasty as well. Very small place, had to wait about 25 minutes, but worth the wait. The shrimp summer rolls were also good.

First time having pho in the US, and it simply beat all my previous experiences in the UK and elsewhere. It came in really large portions, brilliant soup base and a lot of ingredients, I had the Saigon shack pho and my sister ordered the spicy one. I mean it was too much meat for me, but I finished everything else.

I've been the Saigon Shack twice now and it gets better every time. You must order the sweet potato fries. The sauce it comes with is to die for. My boyfriend loves the Banh Mi but my favorite is the Lemon Grass Pho.

Nice lunch option-the $5 bahn mi sandwich was one of the best deals in the city. Didn't eat the pho but saw plenty being delivered to tables around us and it looked great-huge portions for the price. Quick friendly service!

We passed this place one day and noticed the crowds. We made a mental note to return. Expect at least a 30 min wait during meal hours. This is a bustling little place that is quite popular. We waited it out. We noticed the majority of patrons eating pho. Great for a cold day. We wanted bun so went that route. We decided in lemongrass chicken bun and shrimp w/meat egg roll bun. Service was quick and our meals arrived. The grilled lemongrass chicken was flavorful and tender. The shrimp was grilled and savory. Staff checked on us. It was definitely worth the wait.

went with friends for dinner before going to Cafe Wha. Had to wait a little bit as the place is small and very popular with the NYU crowd. We have the pork dumplings and spring rolls for appetizers and they were delicious. 3 had the Pho for entries, one beef ball, and two Saigon Shack Pho with beef balls and brisket. the beef balls while tasty where sort of hard as i think they are only meat with no filler to soften them up. I had the Peking Duck ban mi which was great. Will definitely will go back. Prices are also very reasonable.

Had the pork chop banh mi. A huge serving of meat which is tender and juicy. Really the best ive ever had. Pho was also really excellent. Service was fast and fairly pleasant. Not a huge joint and even though I went on a weekday at 3pm, it was packed so expect to wait. Price about usd10-15 per pax. Probably the best Vietnamese you can get in nyc.

I braved the cold to sit outside at this place and it was spectacular! The pho was so big with huge pieces of chicken I couldn鈥檛 even finish. The waitstaff was so nice and it was just what I needed

Excellent. Delicious and generous portions. Taste the bo bun with porc, spring rolls and shrimps. Just amazing and cheap furthermore ( 11usd). Crab cake is fabulous too Just go there !

This place is great for their Banh Mi (Vietnamese style sub). I ordered their grilled pork and asked for it to be spicy. It was delicious! The bread was crispy and the pork had really good flavor to it. Would definitely recommend if you鈥檙e looking for a quick cheap eats in the area. Tip - they only accept cash payments.

We ordered the beef pho and grilled pork. Food was really good and service was friendly. Would recommend as a healthy lunch in the village.

Great Vietnamese feed, delicious menu with a variety of different options. Everything from the banh mi, bun to the pho is fantastic. The Peking duck roll was a serious stand out! There was a slight wait, but well worth it. (If anywhere is good in NYC, expect to wait, it's worth it!)

I read up on this place only while looking for: Where to eat solo in NY. It's down in a busy street in Soho and when I got there there was a queue outside (always a good sign). I walked in and asked a table for 1. They said that I could eat at the bar and I skipped the whole queue, and there I was at the bar ready to eat within minutes. I ordered the Spicy Ph么 with extra raw beef, summer rolls (ok but average) and some fried spring rolls (delicious!) - The ph么 was unbelievable (served in 5 minutes), massive and packed with meet: Meet balls, raw beef, cooked beef, some kind of processed beef, noodles and soya sprouts. It wasn't too spicy and full of flavour. I traveled Vietnam for a month having Ph么 soups everyday, sometimes several times a day and never enjoyed one as much as this one - for $9!!! It was so good that I went back two days later. (I was 20 min taxi away!). I also loved being at the bar as you are eating with other people on their own and end up meeting loads of people just as amazed as you with the Ph么 and other delicious food. Perfect for a quick Ph么 fix!

this restaurant is small and there is always a line - but it is worth the wait. I could have their vegetarian pho everyday!

New Yorkers love to queue right? Well this very low key restaurant seems to always have people waiting for a table and no wonder. As poor Aussies battling with a low dollar and ever increasing NYC prices, the Saigon Shack was a gem for both value and taste. The lemongrass chicken with fresh vegetables and vermicelli was light and lovely, the beef pho fabulous. The restaurant decor is basic, but who cares? Ate here twice during our stay and will return next time in NYC.

This place always has a crowd of people waiting to enter. The wait can be anywhere between 20-60 min wait depending on the time if day. It is a small place with about 10 tables and some bar seating. We went for a late dinner and waited about 15 min. We decided on pork chop banh mi and lemon grass chicken bun. Service is quick and pleasant. Food is great and you can taste all the different flavors. It is rather loud in there. Music is playing but you really can鈥檛 hear it. Prices are great for the amount of food given.

This place is a great choice for Vietnamese food in NYC. Reasonably priced but the best pho we have ever had. Everything on the menu seems great. We have eaten here three times this month already.

Just back from a trip to Vietnam, we craved another banh mi and found a great brisket version here. The pork one was not quite as good but probably because we asked them to hold the spice back. Line out the door on a sunny Saturday but service is quick so it moves

This place is very popular, but understandably so. The food is wonderful. Go early (before 6pm) or be prepared to wait a little. It's worth it!

The Pho was delicious...really hearty. It is a cash only place and it is very tiny so you do have to share tables. The veggie spring rolls were delicious. Only drawback is that they do push you out. The minute your check comes and you pay, they will literally tell you to get out. So no lingering.

Great place to grab some delicious pho. The place was jampacked so we had to wait a bit and eat kind of fast, but it was definitely worth it. Good spot to grab a bite before going to the Comedy Cellar.

Amazing place. You have to wait if you come for lunch or dinner but it's absolutely worth the wait! Authentic and just simply amazing! Great staff too.

Coming from England, I wouldn鈥檛 say there鈥檚 a lot of Vietnamese food options, but this place is great! I ordered a classic pho with extra noodles. I loved the intensity of the soup, great little addition to Greenwich Village!

Since moving to the northeast from the south I've noticed a lack of Vietnamese cuisine. Before Saigon Shack I've only tried one other restaurant's pho and the broth was bland, even with the hoisin sauce and sriracha. Needless to say I didn't really have high expectations when I came in, but Saigon Shack blew me away. Came in on a Saturday during the lunch hour, and since I was just one person I was seated right away at the bar. If you're more than two people they have communal tables in the restaurant, and by the looks of it they put more than one group to a table. I ordered the brisket pho for about $9. Food came out pretty quickly, and as soon as I started eating I didn't stop till all my noodles were gone. So happy to find a good bowl of pho in the area, I will definitely be coming back. This place gets pretty packed, so prepare to wait for a spot to eat during prime dining hours. To my dismay I didn't realize this was a cash only place and didn't happen to have any on hand. The ladies at the restaurant were nice enough to let me run to a nearby ATM, I just left my phone behind as collateral.

Opted to stop by when in NYC for dinner. The place is small and was very busy so a wait was expected. The hostess though had everything timed right and sped things up by taking people's orders while they waited. By doing so your food arrived hot and ready a couple of minutes after you were seated. It also shortened the wait time to get seated. The portions are fairly priced and generous, to the point they could be shared by two people. I would highly recommend Siagon Shack for great Vietnamese food and service.

We were walking around Greenwich Village and walked by the Vietnamese restaurant and said that might be ok but kept walking. Decided to return and was glad we did. I had the Lemongrass Chicken Pho and it was great. The broth was excellent, chicken grilled well and moist and the noodles tasty. My first try of Vietnamese food and well worth it.

This is a great, cheap eats place. Cash only. The beef pho I had was outstanding, really tasty and fresh. Highly recommended

On a cold winter's night there is nothing better than one of their bowls of pho. The place was packed, and yet they managed to minimize everyone's wait, and move people through fairly quickly. They only take cash. And there is no bar. But the food and their Vietnamese coffee were fantastic. Highly recommended!

Very good food and vey good vegetarian option. Lots of people and great buzzing atmosphere. If you are there to eat and go, then great. If you want to relax a bit, then not so great. But the service was excellent, staff friendly, food lovely. Queues outside when we left and I can understand the business model is to maximise turnover.

This is a small restaurant that is cash only and doesn鈥檛 serve alcohol. BUT, the food is delicious! We had the vermicelli and the Pho. Very good size portions and excellent flavor! I thought the staff was nice and they did not rush us (contrary to other reviews). Authentic flavor profiles. Great for a quick meal.

I usually come here for the Classic Beef Pho and Spring Rolls. Someone next to me ordered the Special Shrimp Poor Boy Sandwich and it looked good. Next Time!! Good service and fast. Can't go wrong with this place.

Very close to NYU, therefore often crowded with students. Price may seem a little high, but big portion makes up for it. I always order the Ph贸, particularly Saigon Shack Ph贸. Rice dishes are also really good. The meat Bahn-mi is delicious. Wait times can be very long, ranging from 20 to 40 mins. If coming as a group, everyone must already be present. Cash only. My friends would come from uptown to have Ph贸 here. May not be the most authentic, but food is very nice.

This small Vietnamese place is so popular that lines form at lunchtime. We ducked in just before they were full and really enjoyed the fried spring rolls. The beef pho was good, but not great. The stock lacked real depth. It did, however, come with the full complement of garnishes--jalapeno slices, bean sprouts, and lime wedges.

This is a small, stylish place just south of Washington Square Park. It was buzzing on a Friday at 3pm so I would think regular mealtimes would be packed. I ordered the Pork Chop Banh Mi sandwich - it was excellent. A normal banh mi has very little meat - this sandwich had a huge amount of thick, juicy, perfectly gilled pork. The pickled veggies and sliced, raw jalapeno provided a party for my taste buds. We also ordered a duck banh mi - I recommend the pork chop version WAY over the duck version. Lemonade was excellent, too. Service was friendly. Vietnamese food is almost always a good value and this place is no exception. We didn't try the pho - next time!

I loved this place, the food is so fresh and authentic, lots of coriander and bahn mi. It was well worth treating myself after so much walking. The staff were also attentive and very welcoming. I will be returning here with my friends.

A busy little gem to be found in the Village. Great Vietnamese food, efficient service and fantastic value for money in NYC. Although the Saigon Shack doesn't look much from the outside, don't be fooled by appearances. The crowd of waiting patrons will probably give you a hint to the tastiness of the food and the tables are turned every half hour or so, therefore the queue of customers disappears quickly. Great Pho and other delicacies. Definitely worth a try. No alcohol license, but you don't need that to enjoy great food in a hip atmosphere.

Good food and nice ambience. Quite cheap, we had the sandwich and rice noodles, service is quick. Small place and busy, not a posh place.

I had to wait for 15 mins on a fridat afternoon but they gave me so much meat and the pho was really good.

Its quite a small restaurant so you might have to wait for a seat/table. The pho there was amazing! Ordered the vegetarian pho with vietnamese coffee they were so authentic and delicious. They open till midnight too. Highly recommend this place if you are in NYC.

Go here, pho sho! I had an awesome time here. I went here on a Saturday around 3pm with no wait, we sat at the bar. The service, staff and atmosphere was efficient and friendly. Before I decided to come here, I saw a cash only sign but realized there's a Bank of America just down the street. I ordered the oxtail pho - amazing. The meat literally melts into the pho and off the bones. Yummmm. Even for a hot, summer/fall day, it was perfect. I added a lot of siricha because there's basically no spice to it. I also had the summer roll with shrimp. It's refreshing and comes with peanut sauce. I'd definitely come back!

I ended up during a visit to SOHO. There were a lot of people waiting outside so we decided to wait. I'm glad we did because it was good. We had a spring roll appetizer we all enjoyed. I tried a Banh Mi for the first time coming here. It tasted really good, the bread was my favorite part. The service was good also. I would come back again.

I ordered the classic pho (I believe it's called Pho Tai). The broth was one of the better ones I've tasted at other pho places; however, the meat could have been better. The cut contained tendon (maybe it wasn't tendon but something along those lines) and I had to bite around it because I don't like eating that part of beef. Most times there is a wait to get seated but it generally goes quick and the food comes out quick. Service was pretty good for it being a fast-paced restaurant.

This is good place to get your noodles, a taste of Vietnamese noodle soup in the village. Expect a long queue at any time of the day. Very reasonable price, good service.

On our first night in New York we walked past Saigon Shack. This was one of my favourite meals in the city. I ordered a take away green mango salad with grilled chicken. The chicken breast was freshly grilled and delicious. The salad was crispy and delicious. Yeah! Exactly what I needed at 23:00.

Great sandwiches that are also great for takeaway! I was told the spicy was "mild", i would state that it is a lot more spicy than that. Other then that everything has a great taste

I was meeting up with an old friend going back over 25 years, one I hadn't seen in nearly a decade and well, catching up was the priority and unfortunately the food, specifically the two b谩nh m矛 sandwiches we had shared didn't leave any memorable impression. The options sounded fabulous, roast duck and fried cat fish, but as my old friend opined, "had better!" Since I was born in Vietnam and have traveled a lot, and thus have eaten plenty of b谩nh m矛, I am in agreement.

Simple place with a long bar and a few tables, lively ambiance at lunch time which gives a nice big city feeling to it. The service is good and their Pho was very good for the money.

Best bahn mi hands down. The veggie pho has so much flavor, you don't even miss the meat! The staff is efficient. Super reasonably priced. The waits can be long and the "top 40's" music is annoying...that being said, it's totally worth it.

Had a really great dinner at Saigon Shack. Yes, a line out the door but moves quickly. Certainly worth the wait. Authentic style Vietnamese food. Very small spot so expect fast service. Your order is taken as you sit down. Large portions at a very reasonable price. Enjoy!

We found this place on a blog and we're happy we did! We both had the salad - one with shrimps/rice and one with chicken/noodles. They were both really tasty and left us more than satisfied. Go there for a quick and cheap way but come early - there was quite a line at twelve. Cash only!

A great dinner...summer rolls followed by some Banh Mi. Enjoyable, flavoursome and great value. I will be back.

We love this place. It is small and there is usually a wait to get a table. Also, there is no air conditioning so they will open the front doors. On very hot days it can be a little uncomfortable. The food is delicious and very fresh. The portions are a very nice size. We usually order a variety of items and share. They have sandwiches, noodle dishes, appetizers, etc. They do have some spicy items and they can be VERY spicy so be careful. They can adjust these for you if you ask.

Located in a block from nice Washington square in posh district (as well this district is crowded by numerous students). Small place with several table (20-25 seats) and long counter where up to 10 people can have seat as well (advice - if you're alone - it is much easier to have a seat at bar counter, rather than waiting for a table). Service is simple and fast, tables are clean, large bowl of pho soup with various sauces to add and some vegetables (i've taken the one with pork - llllots of meat!), as well tried sweet potato and fried spring rolls that were good. Prices are low: soup is USD 9-11 which is nothing for NY. Noticed that among guests pho with fresh veal is popular but didn't dare to try. Definitely worth to visit once or twice

Cash only so be prepared. Our total meal was just over 30$. Highly recommend lemongrass chicken pho and classic banh mi sandwiches. They were excellent! And we had enough leftover to eat for lunch the next day. Enjoyed sitting at the counter so we could watch the kitchen staff. Get there early and be prepared to wait-very small seating area. Absolutely delicious!

My first bout of dating with my boyfriend 3 years ago. He took me here after a rather small but electric fight. Lovely food, you can't help but smooth things over when a well meaning Lemongrass Chicken and Vegetable Pho is served. Thank you for a lovley time, cannot wait to go back!!!

Went to this restaurant before a performance at the Comedy Cellar nearby. First clue about the quality of the food is the number of Asian diners inside the restaurant, and queuing up outside. We waited only about 20 mins for a table (get your name on the list ASAP if you get there and there is a queue) and ordered the regular Pho and some vietnamese rice paper rolls. Both were excellent. Service was fast and courteous - handled by 3 or 4 staff buzzing around taking orders. The cooks all appeared to be of mexican or latin american, but the food was still reasonably authentic. Bill for the dinner for 2 was $24. Not bad at all.

Went on a trip to the village and decided to do an early lunch. My daughter fancied Asian food so as we passed this place at 11:30am, we saw that in was 3/4 full of people eating. A good sign... and indeed an accurate one. We were seated and treated to some of the nicest food I have tasted. Simple, clean flavours but well cooked and in large portions we were not surprised that as we left, we were pushing past a long line of people waiting eagerly to go in Cash only, and water the only drink but oh boy, what a wonderful experience... but get there ( very) early.

If you are ever interested in trying the best pho anywhere - this is it. Huge portion of perfect beef pho for only $9. And don't forget the Vietnamese iced coffee. Wow.

This is a good place for some Vietnamese eats. The prices are right and the service is bare bones and not friendly. No worries though as the food is fresh and tasty. More authentic than I was expecting given that NYC isn't the best city for Vietnamese. We tried the egg rolls, bun with grilled chicken and the pho. All were very tasty. Cash only - prices are pretty cheap. Place is popular so expect to wait. Will definitely return.

Really tasty pho. Beef Broth was amazing! Brisket and meatballs wasn鈥檛 so great but the steak was perfect. Could have done with more herbs to add to the soup. Veggie Spring rolls were not great. Not much flavour and too thick wrapper. Service was quick and simple. This place is more of an in and out dining experience rather than a sit down and chill dinner. It was constantly full the whole time I was there and always a queue at the door. I personally only had to wait about 5 minutes but I did see people waiting longer. Not a massive restaurant.

Great selection of Phos and Bun Noodles, really tasty broth alongside really friendly service amongst a buzzy atmosphere

We had a friend visit from Spain and with some time to kill before your jazz show at the Blue Note, we went Googled near by restaurants and found this one. With a curiosity for trying new and foreign dishes we ventured to the Saigon Shack. Upon arrival, we were placed on a waiting list of about 25 minutes. We walked around the neighborhood in search of another option, which in the end none were to be found. We returned to the Saigon Shack and were seated within minutes. The interior is small but full of energy from both the staff as well as the patrons. The seating is "picnic table" style, so you will be eating next to others on the same table, but don't worry, there is plenty of elbow room. The portions are very generous and the prices ideal for those on a budget. Enjoy.

Fell into Saigon Shack cruising Greenwich on a trip coming from Oakland in October, 2015. Highly rated on Yelp or something, saw a crowd there and went in. Seated at the counter, quickly ordered and got hot Pho with spring rolls. Rolls were good, as was the Pho. Not maybe as tasty as we're used to in the S.F. Bay Area, could use a little more flavor pop - but good overall. This is mostly about the soup broth. Cool environment, very crowded with a lunchtime New York patronage. Nice experience.

The pho was outstanding. Very authentic. The service was fast. No drill no fuss but good honest food.

After a long day of walking the city, we rewarded ourselves with a meal at Saigon Shack. It was still early so there was no waiting. During dinner, there is a queue of hungry patrons. Originally we were going to sit at the bar, but hubby preferred a table. We got the last table by the door which was quite breezy. Staff told us they would lower the A/C so we agreed. Shortly after seating, the hostess said she had a table further back and we changed seats. We decided on the 2 orders of Lemongrass Chicken Bun. The meals came quickly and were hefty in size. Lots of grilled chicken and fresh ingredients. The pickled carrots and daikon are delicious as was the chicken and entire meal. We took leftovers home, Staff continue to be pleasant. Business is booming here. We love our yearly stop.

Good food! Had their Grill Shrimp with Vermicelli. Delish! They were also to prepare the Thai Ice Tea with soy milk. Extra bonus for someone who's allergic to dairy! Wait staff are nice and efficient too. The place is usually packed. If you've more than 2 in your party, be prepared to wait a little. Also, they are CASH ONLY!

Get the food to go, because there's always a line out the door and the place is packed. But their bahn mi sandwich is very good; the baguette is crunchy without being too tough. The filling is plenty and flavorful. And beware: the spicy version is actually very spicy. And one sandwich will keep you full all night.

Good food and fast once you are seated. Uncomplicated menu with a few appetizers, the the banh mi sandwiches, soups, etc. good Vietnamese style coffee and Thai style tea, both with sweetened condensed milk. They have vegetarian options on most things like pho, bun soup... Very good dining option in the village.

I would have to agree with the majority vote on this one. Great food, especially the pho and egg rolls. CASH ONLY so be prepared. I would also have to agree that I felt a bit rushed to eat and get out so don't go there if you are one of those that likes to linger because it sits at MOST 30-40 people so they want you out for turnover.

The service was nice and the food was fresh, but the flavors were very muted. I had the fresh rolls with shrimp--middle of the road. The lemongrass chicken was hot and nicely grilled but the sauce was so light on fish sauce that it was just salty/sweet rather than authentic. I think the cuisine has been adapted to students/tourists' taste. Not a bad lunch but not particularly bold or authentic (and I've had fabulous Vietnamese food on the west coast and in Asia).

very pleasant and energetic place with very good food and good value. Location is great as well. No credit card.

Good food, reasonable prices and fast service. It can get a little crowded, specially at dinner time but if you are not in a rush is a great option. The pho and fried rice are particularly good.

I have eaten here several times lately because it鈥檚 so close to my daughter鈥檚 school (NYU). They serve the best Pho that I have ever had. I love the lemongrass chicken Pho it is so satisfying and filling, it鈥檚 a huge bowl of soup, very large portion. If you are in the area definitely try it you will be impressed.

You may be surprised by the line up outside this small restaurant, but its worth the wait. There is a good reason for the number of Vietnamese that you see in this place enjoying the food. Great food, great service and great price. Pick anything and you won't be disappointed! Take whatever seat is available, even the "crowded" one, its worth it!

the restaurant is located in west village, parallel to 6th avenue. the atmosphere is great and the food is sumptuous, fresh and delicious. We like ist 馃憤

The food is very fresh and delivered right away. The service was wonderful and the prices are very reasonable, (cheap for NYC) The four of us had 2 sandwiches and two noodle dishes, Everyone was happy with there choices. This is a small restaurant, even with the AC on it was very warm.

My boyfriend and I visited Saigon shack last night for dinner after reading a Reddit post about places to eat in NYC. We were not disappointed. There was a large queue when we got to the restaurant but were seated within a minute. The service was prompt and we ordered and were served within five minutes of sitting down. I ordered the vegetarian vermicelli and my boyfriend had the lemongrass chicken on rice with some sweet potato fries. All were absolutely delicious. My tofu was tasty and was so hard to tell it was not meat. Price was really reasonable for such amazing food and service. I鈥檇 go back today! A really tasty and healthy meal is so refreshing with all the burger joints around. I鈥檇 recommend to anyone visiting NYC.

Nice little place with great food and an easy going atmosphere. Authentic Vietnamese food with good flavours.

On foodie street NYU surrounded by some great places and some just ok, sits this oasis of great Vietnamese food. Always packed, full of neighborhood regulars as well as those that know food. Take out available but no delivery. Go hungry and be prepared to wait because there is usually a line. Service is fast but accompanied by a smile. Our favorites are the great Bahn mi sandwiches- share and get one duck and one brisket. You'll be spoiled for life. The Pho gets high marks. The sweet potato fries are delish.

This restaurant is a cool chilled place where to eat some very good made Vietnamese food. The soups are the best, delicious and the portion will satiated you. Staff is friendly and will always refill your glass of water before you'll notice it. Price is good. Only thing, better be patient as it is always busy

We visited here with our daughter, who is now living in NYC. Everything was terrific. Fried spring rolls were well above the ordinary, with a crunchy shell, distinct flavors within, and above average dipping sauce. Pho with traditional beef was so full of flavor, and my fried fish with vermicelli was perfectly light and crispy. My daughter's banh mi was perfect too, and can't say enough about the cold sesame noodles. It was a little too warm in the restaurant, it only accepts cash, and I would have liked ice in my water. That said, there were always refills. We were charged for sodas that never made it to the table, but they were taken off the check without question or delay. So, so good - definitely going back.

No reservations, fast noisy and young restaurant. At 6pm waiting is not long. Fried fish was excellent.

Pho.... Don't get put off by the lines that sometimes accumulate outside the shop...it truly represents how the food here is worth the wait... They gave us very realistic waiting times. With their great table management you will get a table in no time depending on the size of your party. Note that the place is small and often crammed so that intimate meal for two might not be the best sort environment here. But if you are just like Hubs and I, we are absolute foodies...this is a great place to be at. The traditional pho priced up at $9 before tax and their Saigon Shack spicy noodles priced up at $12 before tax. Tap water was my beverage of choice to chill the heat of the jalape帽os that I added to my S.S original Pho. The freshly served bean sprouts, lime and Thai basil added a crisp bite and freshness to the dish that I considered was a fairly normal sized amount of rice noodles relative to its large bowl of broth which I finished to the final drop.

We were looking for a place to eat at midnight, cheap but where we could sit down. Pho was great and the mango salad was scrumptious.

I haven't had a better pho in any city. The broth was incredibly flavorful without adding any sauces, and each bite tasted better than the last.

Cool relaxed place. Pho is delicious, Vietnamese coffee amazing. Thanks dudes. Loved it. Charming business tucked away in leafy Greenwich Village.

My wife, who is vegetarian, and i were in NYC for the first time in March, 2016. We were based in the Soho area. On night we came across the Saigon Shack when wandering through the Greenwich Village area and thought we would give it a try. We had not heard anything about the place but it looked busy and laid back at the same time. Fantastic fresh food, it was a treat and not expensive. One of the best places that we ate while on our 7 day trip. Would highly recommend .

Iam Asian and after reading the good reviews I went here for the first time. I ordered the classic beef ball pho and the spicy pho. The beef balls are cut in half and you only get like 5 pieces. You do get a big bowl but it's full of rice noodle. The stock which is the most important thing in this dish was bland at best. I don't know maybe I am comparing to Asian countries but I expected more flavour and portion size. Average for me and I didn't give tip!

Best bahnmi around. Get the classic one for 5$ and you won鈥檛 regret it. Queues are long so be prepared to wait. Also tried the buncha which was average.

Spent a week in NYC and this was one of nicest places we are in. Bahn mi was so tasty, better than anything you could get in Vietnam. and the pho was awesome! And what great value as well. Staff really nice, so attentive and hard working.

I loved this cafe - friendly staff, super fast service, delicious pho tai, and really cheap as well. I kept coming back!

Googled and found this place. Told my Viet-American friend Jeff and met him there. I joined the Q and he joined just in time for us to be seated. It only took 15mins. I ordered the Classic Beef Pho. Had a sip of the soup and I knew this place double boil their soup for hours. To get the sweetness. Real power broth. My friend had the spicy Pho. I still like mine better. I also had Vietnamese coffee. Yum. My friend thinks it's great place and he will bring friends there. I will come often if I live in New York. The good thing about this place, it's very close to a live band club we like.

The food was good. I had the pork chop on vermicelli with fried spring rolls and Vietnamese ice coffee. My wife had pho. It was crowded on a Friday evening but definitely worth finding the place.

This is one of the best places we ate in New York. It's in Greenwich Village, walking distance from the subway. We paid $26 for 2 mains and a side. We both had the pho and it was amazing - fresh, fragrant, tasty. Very relaxed atmosphere. You can't reserve a table, and it gets really busy but we went at about 4pm and got a table straightaway. Honestly you won't regret going to this place. We already want to go back, truly amazing!!

Not much to look at. Crowded with small tables. Always a long line. We stopped in at about 3 on Saturday and had a 20 minute wait. The service was excellent - very fast. The food was just great. Not really sure how to describe our meals - a type of Vietnamese sandwich. Hot so I took the hot peppers on the side. Three of us split a pineapple and mango salad as an appetizer. No alcohol. The meal was extremely filling and with tax/tip the total was about $30. Cash only. Outstanding meal!!

I went to Saigon Shack on the recommendation of a friend. We were told to go a bit early to avoid the lunch crowd, so we did and only waited for a few minutes to have a table cleared. The restaurant is small, so it fills up quickly. We both ordered the Saigon Shack Special, and it was excellent. It's a large dish and comes with sprouts on the side. I found the meat to be tender and well seasoned and the broth had depth. I could imagine their dishes to be the perfect remedy for a cold day, but even in August it was a treat. Top tip: bring cash.

Really great, fresh food. Small waiting time to get in due to popularity but really awesome. Had the pork chop, spring rolls and shrimp noodles, totally worth it.

I visited this place specifically for the lemongrass chicken pho! I added shrimp. Not only did it all taste fresh but it was also perfectly seasoned and prepped. The staff were great and appeared to work as a team...one stepping in to help the other. Everyone was so great that I didn't know who to tip. Lol (left it on the table) My friends and I also had a few starter dishes - crab cakes, dumplings and fried spring rolls. Everything was excellent! The few things that I'd suggest: post a more prominent sign in front stating the cash only policy; assign a hostess to STAY at the door during busy nights; EXPAND...it's way too small for the crowds! Overall, I'd visit each time that I'm in New York and bring friends with me! (wonder if they cater)

Stopped in on a whim after seeing a show across the street. Restaurant was busy but we were seated quickly. Ordered 2 delicous versions of their vermicelli bun...yum! Note before you go, it's cash only, but there is an ATM outside.

Saigon Shack is a very popular Vietnamese restaurant located in Lower Manhattan. When you get there normally there would be a ton of people waiting to get seated since it is a small restaurant. But the waiters and waitresses give you and your party menus so when you get your seats and sit down your food is brought to you right away since they cooked it while you were waiting. Most of the food ranges from $3-$14 but don't be fooled by a price of a $9 bowl of pho. When the bowl arrives, you'll find that the bowl is EXTREMELY large and well worth your money, as is all the other items on their menu. My parents and I really like this restaurant and return to eat some authentic Vietnamese food regularly.

Visited with friends the other day for a casual lunch. The wait was about 10 minutes but the turnover was fast - let鈥檚 just say they didn鈥檛 wait around to give us the check! No alcohol allowed and cash only - there鈥檚 a few ATMs outside. The food was fantastic and tasted delicious. It felt authentic and looked how pho should. I had the Shrimp Bun noodle bowl and at just under $10 it was a steal. Perfect for a light lunch at a reasonable price. Good atmosphere, great prices and very tasty food. Definitely worth a visit for some of the best pho in NYC.

We absolutely loved this little restaurant! There is a queue but it moves really fast, so don't give up! The Pho soup was delicious, as well as a vegetarian rice dish. Staff is super friendly and the prices are low. don't miss it if you are in the neighborhood.

I've eaten here several times and have tried a variety of their pho soups, each has been delicious!! If there is a line they will take your order and it will be ready for you when you are seated. The Thai iced tea is great, too!!

I guess I had high expectations since we are in NYC. The Pho was ok- I鈥檝e had better. The same with the Banh mi-It was good but we鈥檝e had better. The Thai tea was a disappointment, but I guess I鈥檓 just used to it being sweeter.

This is a top notch little VIetnamese joint. We sat at the bar, arriving in time for our reservation. We could have waited a few minutes for a table, but we were fine. All of the food was amazing. We had a shrimp vermicelli salad, the best of the choices. Each bite was a delightful swoon of perfectly balanced flavor. The chicekn lemongrass sandwich was also very good. And the summer roll in rice paper was perfectly healthy, light, and refreshing on a hot day. Definitely recommended.
Great Fresh Vietnamese
Stopped in here while on a recent trip to New York. The food was lovely and fresh. I wouldn鈥檛 bother with the Peking duck banh mi - that was disappointing and very bland, mainly consisted of cucumber. However, the classic beef pho and the grilled pork chops, shrimp & spring rolls bun were amazing. The staff were lovely and attentive, only complaint was we waited a while for the bill once we requested it. We were seated straight away without a reservation. Meals were very reasonably priced. Will definitely be back and on my next trip to NY. Australians traveling in NY will enjoy this restaurant.
