A small unpretentious neighborhood restaurant mostly frequented by locals who are looking for a quick bite. The food can best be described as what Nonna would have brought to the table. My favorite is the ravioli gorganzola pear with walnuts. Very affordable. Best deals are ala Carter vs price fix. Avoid open table reservations in that your relegated to price fix dining. Buon appetito !

Visited in September with 3 friends who recommended the place. Started with the sangria pitcher which was delicious! Had a very nice starter and then we all had our own main course with different kind of pastas. You can choose your own type and each different one tasted just as fresh as the other. The ravioli was amazing, the meatballs super tasty and the Vecchia Bettola simple, though hitting the exact mark. The portions are normal size and I left fulfilled, though stuffed. I would definitely recommend for a nice evening out and to help, the prices aren't that bad either!

Found this place while visiting NY with my grandmother. It was quite busy with a lot of college aged patrons. The menu is very simple, a few appetizers, a selection of handmade pastas and sauces, and a few desserts. So greatly priced! The pastas were just $9 and pitchers of delicious sangria for $15! When i initially saw the portions, I thought they were a tad small, but I was so full after eating mine. And it tasted amazing. The only downside was the cramped seating, however, the staff was very friendly, and the food was great. I will definitely be back!

Came across San Marzano on a casual ramble. Saw the menu and ordered a delicious spaghetti dish with vegetable meatballs. Every bite was mouthwatering. Service was prompt. Would go there again.

Great location. It’s a Good place to grab a bite but Nothing spectacular. A good selection of basic pasta and sauces at a very reasonable price. The price range is great for what you get. The Burrata appetizer was very good. They Need to work on wait staff training. Our waitress was a stiff who spent more time on her phone by the bar then paying attention to her customers

What a delightful spot! Quality pastas and Italian foods for a great price. We shared eggplant appetizer and pasta with broccoli rabe and sausage. Both were delicious! Also got a great bottle of wine for under $30. Fresh bread served with the meal. It was very busy the night we were there, but only had to wait around 30 minutes (we went early though).

What a great value. Delicious papardelle (home-made to order) with home-made Bolognese or veg. , saugage bolognese sauces. $9.00 per entre ..wines $6-7.00 or $22.00 750 ltr. bottle. Suggest reservation if four or more.

I had the tagliatelle with bolognese and was not disappointed! It came a generous portion and was delicious even the day after! I didn't stay for dessert, but all the ones I saw looked amazing. Can't wait to return and try other menu items.

The price point is really reasonable and thus attracts a younger crowd. Place was extremely noisy the night we were there, not necessarily always like that. Food was OK, American-Italian, service was really good though. It's great value for money.

A cozy restaurant and bar is comfortable for wine and appetizers. The Burrata was recommended by the bartender and she was spot on. She also suggested we move to the other end of the bar so we could sit. Her attentiveness to our desire for more wine was terrific, even in the midst of drama spoken by waitresses and management staff in a busy and bar filled Friday night. Loved her red hair and hard work.

The menu is limited, but the food was excellent...and a relative bargain in this part of town. I think I'll be returning soon.

Got attracted by this restaurant since it was full of people on a Monday night, ended up eating a great home-made spaghetti bolognese. Prices are affordable, stuff is friendly, food is great. If you’re in east village do give it a try!

So last night we went to dinner at my daughter's favorite restaurant, San Marzano!!! All pastas are hand-made and only 9 dollars a plate! Soo inexpensive! Absolutely delicious!! The 4 of us shared the Burrata with prosciutto, calamari, arugula salad with beets and goat cheese and eggplant to start with! You then choose your pasta and your sauce!!! I then had the pappardella bolognese! TO DIE FOR!!! The nice thing about this restaurant, is they can make any dish dairy free if needed, and provide gluten free options! But there is a "BUT" here!!! I was truly astonished when I told them I had a nut allergy and was told, "We use peanut oil to fry in!" My question to them would be "why?" I therefore could not eat the eggplant, calamari, etc.... I would think that in this day and age, that would simply be a no-no, especially since they are soo cognitive of dietary restrictions!! It is for this reason I am only giving them a 4 star rating!!! At any rate, if you are in the neighborhood and don't mind eating in a "loud, bustling eatery," you will not be disappointed!!! Reservations only taken for 6 or more!!!

Yes, it was a Saturday night in NYC, but here goes. We had just dropped off our son at his dorm and were hungry. We (3) took a walk around the corner and found San Marzano. Small, no frills, cute. Some tables outside as well. We stepped in around 6:45pm. The Hostess seemed very stressed, and said a 30 minute wait, ok, we're ok with that. We went to the bar and ordered drinks. The bartender was great, he also right away offered water as well with our drinks. First, for NYC, the prices are really affordable. The wine and Sangria were very nice. What bothered me, was 30 minutes turned into 45, 60, 75+, and there were plenty of empty tables...I don't know if she was seating regulars or what, but there were lots of empty tables, no one was sitting at. Other people who came in after us were seated. We had to address her about 3 times. We were finally seated outside, on a slanted sidewalk. Our table was on the 7th Street side going West and I was facing East, so every time a car came to the corner going West on 7th and 2nd, the car's headlights were in my eyes. At that point, we had waited so long we didn't want to leave and go looking for another place to eat. The saving grace was, our server was really wonderful and efficient. The appetizers were very, very good. I recommend the Burrata! We also had an eggplant app and the meatballs. Both very good. The other thing is all the pasta is fresh made! Really wonderful! My husband had Broccoli Rabe and Sausage with Pappardalle, my son had Pear and Gorgonzola Ravioli, and I had Butternut Squash and Sausage with a fettucine type pasta, not as wide as papardelle. The pasta, for fresh past was cooked perfectly, al dente. We had grated cheese on top, So, all these pastas offered with different Sauces for about $10 each! They did offer Shrimp Scampi, but that had an up charge of another $10 which I can understand. So, the hostessing is why I gave it a 4, but our server and the food made the experience worthwhile, or I would have given it a 1, because there is no zero rating.

Great food. Service was OK. I was at the bar and didn’t get a lot of attention, but eventually was asked if I wanted anything, The food was delicious as I started with the Cooked Brussels sprouts then had an antipasto salad. The place had a very lively and fun atmosphere. I look forward to going back when I next visit New York City.

A friend recommended we grab lunch here. The food was great, loved the sangria, and seriously it was SO affordable. Good portion sizes for one (you don’t feel like they give wayyy too much) and good atmosphere. Our server was very nice. Overall I’d recommend!

We made a brunch reservation with friends. There is a set price that includes a pastry basket, unlimited mimosas, and one entree. There is also a lunch menu you can order from that is slightly more expensive. We all really enjoyed our food, but the pricing was confusing. A small panini that is right below the breakfast options should not cost $42... anyway. Our waitress was great and took care of us. I wish I had caught her name so I could thank her again. I would return, but be clear about what you are paying before you order.

If you believe that pasta is simple ... U haven't gone to this place ... Tried it while walking down the 2nd Av ... The food here is really good. I definitely recommend it if you are visiting NYC and are around east village

Very much enjoyed here. Tasty pasta for a fair price. You choose the type of pasta, sauce and any extras for less than 15€ Attentive service.

Called in this place twice whilst on a visit to New York, the food on both occasions was excellent, especially considering the cost compared to restaurants nearby, however on our 2nd visit(after having been impressed with our 1st visit) the service was not upto the quality of the food. Our mains were brought out whilst only half way through our starter, which considering the intimate size of the table made accomadating both difficult, then the waiter, who had worked the night before and been brilliant, started to clear our table before my wife had finished her food, I understand that it is a busy place but we weren't taking overly long with the table. Then when we were leaving I was confronted by a member of staff to ask why I hadn't left an 18% tip, I explained that I thought the tip had been included in the price as the total was more than the total of the meals(I had forgotten that tax is added on after) and that I had paid 10% more than the stated price, she didn't seem impressed by this and stated that 18% is standard in the US and that I must be confused as I'm from Europe... If it hadn't been for the excellent service we had received the night before(when coincidently this young girl hadn't been working) I would have walked out but with this in mind I gave over 20 and asked for change... To summarise, lovely food, setting, atmosphere but service on occasion needs refinement and itemised bills wouldn't be a bad idea either, as then there can be no confusion.

My friends and I are always look for cheap food and stumbled upon San Marzano one day because of the $9 pasta sign. It's so inexpensive with perfect portions and really great pasta and paninis. Highly recommend the eggplant panini, cheese and tomato sandwich, or literally an of the pastas.

This place is so good! Amazing atmosphere and awesome food! And one of the cheapest good restaurants I've come across- 9$ for amazing fresh pasta!! The sangria also was the best I've had outside of Spain- and also very inexpensive- 15$ a pitcher! My friends and I have gone back almost 4 times in the last two months! We love it!

The restaurant seating is not comfortable. The bench seating is old school and does not add to the comfort of the dining. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce flavor profile was balanced. Good comfort food for a cold winters night in the apple.

I love coming to San Manzano and enjoy coming here for dinner after the movies at the Anthology Theater down the street. The food is reasonable, always delicious and the portion sizes are very fair. I had the Chicken Parmesan Panini for dinner with an Ice Tea and the sandwich was bigger than I thought. It was two freshly fried chicken cutlets on fresh bread with their delicious red sauce. I was very impressed by the size of the sandwich and it tasted wonderful. All the meals I have eaten here are delicious. The service is also laid back and very friendly.

If our waitress is right, this place has only been open three weeks. My wife and friends went there for lunch after seeing a movie nearby. The corner location is great since there are views out to the street from two sides. A long bar along the back wall is home to a nice selection of draft beers and red and white wines. What makes this place a find is the menu which lets you pair six types of pasta with 11 different sauces. Our friends paired Pappardelle with Bolognese sauce and gluten-free tagliatelle with Bolognese Sauce. My wife could not resist Spaghetti with Pesto sauce. Being a meat and potatoes kind of guy, I went for the Garganelli with Wild Boar Ragu. Out of curiosity, we all tasted each others dish and were not disappointed with any of them. In fact, given the crazy prices now common in New York, this place is a welcome oasis of surprisingly excellent food and reasonable prices. Each of these dishes cost $9.00. It would be two to three times that in most other places. Better still, the prices stay the same the whole day. Appetizers are all $7, salads $8 and pressed Panini also $8. Although our main courses were quite filling, two of us could not resist getting the flourless chocolate cake and a Cannoli. Both were excellent and the Cannoli done right (i.e. the filling put into the baked tube just before serving). Our waitress was extremely good with a genuine smile and paid us just the right amount of attention. A wonderful experience all around. Although we have not tried it yet, the restaurant also serves an a-la-carte Brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. We'll try that next!

Nice environment very good food. I really recommend for brunch on Sunday where you are gonna have bottomless mimosas for $10. I suggest the burrata as an entree and the pear Gorgonzola pasta for the main course. Worth a lot!

I was going to the Anthology Movie Theater down the block for a show I wanted to see and stopped in for dinner at the bar. The food and the service were excellent as usual. This is why I love this restaurant so much. I had the Meatball Panini and a Mixed Green Salad and the meal was excellent. The salads here an always crisp with a light dressing and some delicious candied walnuts to compliment it. The Meatball Panini was also delicious. Six of their sliced pork meatballs in their rich red sauce tucked into freshly baked bread and then pressed made an excellent choice. The sandwich was just enough. I did not have room for dessert this time but they have some nice choices. The service at the bar could not have been nicer and the food came out so timely that I got to the movie in plenty of time.

Friends of ours had eaten at San Marzano last September and raved about the fresh pasta and how inexpensive it was....especially for NYC. However, they also talked about how difficult it would be to get in if we didn't go on the earlier side. We got to the restaurant at 5:45 on a Saturday night. We were seated within 10 minutes and had the BEST waitress named Victoria. She answered all of our questions, she was sweet, gave suggestions when we asked, came over several times to see if everything was okay....even after it started getting super busy with a table of 6/8 directly next to us. As appetizers my sister and her husband had the burrata and the mixed green salad (which was huge) and my husband and I had the baby arugula (beets on the side) and caesar salad. Three of us ordered the garganelli shaped pasta - one with the meatball sauce, one with wild boar ragu, and mine was with cavolfiore siciliano, and then my sister had the whole wheat spaghetti with the butternut squash (without the sausage). The pastas were SO delicious, and fresh, and al dente, and affordable that we ordered one more dish - the pesto to take home for our mother. The guys both had draft beer (12 oz for $4 - I mean...REALLY?) and my sister had pinot grigio. I was so hesitant to go because reviews raved about the food, but not the staff. However, we didn't find that to be the case for us. We lucked out with Victoria....a truly awesome waitress.

Was brought here by a local...very good Italian food—fresh, light, not fussy. Goat cheese & pear ravioli, meatball panini, cannoli, tiramisu—dinner for 2 with tip was $52. Staff, food both very nice. Would definitely go again and can see why the locals love it.

Very aesthetically pleasing, always young beautiful people there (so look your best!), and the French toast is amazing! However, what sends this place into the five star range is the bottomless mimosas and boy do they keep your glass filled! On the weekends it's a long wait to get in, but definitely worth it!

I was going to meet some one there, and I was surprise by the quality of the food and more how economic it was. I paid less for 6 persons that just for 2 in other place in some pub in NY-City. It look that this place is more for the local that for the tourist and it is good like this.

Love this place -it is a staple for dinner when you want a good meal without breaking the bank. The fresh pasta is incredible and I love how you can pair any type of noodle with the available sauces and customize it exactly to your liking. The place is packed every time I've gone (its a small place), but I always seems to be seated quickly. If you are in the area and want an affordable, delicious meal in a clean, casual spot - this is it.

My daughter lives in NYC and she recommended the San Marzano. The prices are so reasonable and the freshly made pasta is delicious. This place is very popular and unless you go early you may find yourself waiting quite a while for a table. We tried three dishes and all were very good but I would definitely go back for the ravioli.

We were wandering around the streets of NYC and looking for a place to stop and rest. Our original thought was to have a drink and appetizers however when looking at the great prices on the menu (very hard to find in NYC) we decided to order pasta dishes. I had the fusilli pasta with bolognese and my son had the fusilli with pesto. Both dishes were very yummy and satisfying. The drinks were equally affordable so we were very happy with our choice. The service was good even though they were very busy. Highly recommend this little neighborhood jewel.

I love eating at San Marzano! The food and the service are always excellent and the prices are so reasonable. After a gallery opening down the road, I decided to stop in for some pasta. I had wanted to try their Pappardelle again but this time with meatball sauce. I started the meal with the mixed green salad which is the perfect starter. The greens were so crisp and refreshing that it was a nice contrast to the heavier pasta dish. The Pappardelle with tiny pork meatballs is a rich and savory dish and one of my favorite things on the menu. The pasta is never over- sauced and is the perfect accompaniment to the freshly made pasta. What I also like about San Manzano is that their portion sizes are not huge and you get just enough food to feel comfortably filled. For dessert, I had a freshly made Cannoli, which was made with a creamy ricotta filling and topped with powdered sugar. It was a delicious. Another nice thing about the restaurant is the service. It is so laid back and friendly. I highly recommend the restaurant.

I love coming to San Marzano. The food and the service are always consistently excellent and the meal was wonderful this evening. I had not been there is a long time because you can never get into the place because it is always so busy. Their prices are so reasonable and the food is excellent. I had a mixed salad where the greens and tomatoes were so fresh and crisp and the dressing had a nice sweet and spicy flavor to it. For the main entree, I had the Pappardelle with red sauce and meatballs. The meatballs were really good. They were tiny little globes of veal and beef and had a nice rich flavor. Their red sauce was delicious with the taste of olive oil and fresh tomatoes. I enjoy their homemade pastas. What I like best about the restaurant is the portion sizes are very fair and not overwhelming. They are just enough to fill you up. The service was so friendly and quick and it was nice to just come in and grab a table by the window and enjoy my meal. I can't wait to come back.

PLEASE READ: I had an allergic reaction in this restaurant due to apparent cross contamination in their kitchen. I informed my server of my severe allergy to tree nuts and she ensured me that everything I ordered was nut-free. Turns out there ended up being pesto (with pine nuts) accidentally in my dish, and I ended up in the hospital. When I called the restaurant the next day to ask for their list of ingredients, I was initially offered that they pay my hospital bill, however later was informed that they could only offer me a “free glass of wine” to make up for their mistake. They took no responsibility for their mistake and refused to apologize or show any remorse for my ending up in the hospital with a life threatening reaction. They even went so far as to accuse me of lying- saying that I could have eaten something after I left or maybe I “kissed someone who ate nuts.” They still refuse to pay my hospital bill, and only offered to pay a fraction of it in return for my promise to drop the issue. I recommend that you DO NOT eat here.

Went here for a late night dinner and so impressed by the quality and prices. I am still dreaming of the burrata appetizer. The pastas were varied and at $10 such a bargain. The outside seating was a plus.

We have been here before during lunch time; that was a much better experience - there weren't a ton of people and we were able to leisurely enjoy our food and sangria. This time was a whole different, TERRIBLE story. I doubt I will return because of the disgusting treatment. We were here on a weekend night. We had a reservation. They booked another table at our table after an hour of us being there?! WTF who does that? They told us at the beginning (a) that we had to leave in an hour, and (b) that our prix fixe bottomless wine/beer/sangria would be shorter than normal because of their overbooking. Yet, of course, they wouldn't have charged any less. We were here for a celebration so obviously this was an AWFUL experience. The waiter seemed to be the only or one of few waiters serving the whole joint, so he was SO slow to get our orders after telling us we had such little time. We were still finishing our drinks when they came over to kick us out. Unbelievable. Cherry on top - while they deserved a very low tip, they auto-added 20%. No wonder why they didn't give a f how they treated us. AVOID AVOID AVOID at dinner time.

Out for a show and came across San Mariano. What a surprise, great fresh paste, beautifully home made, sensational sauces and low price beer! Lots of young people from the Village obviously know good food. Highly recommend .

Small restaurant with a lot of character and great food for a good value. They don't take reservations so be prepared to wait a little, however; there are a ton of restaurants near by to grab a drink while waiting.

Great food and for reasonable prices. The atmosphere is very nice and great for lunches or even romantic dinner. Definitely recommend

Stopped by after catching a movie at Village East Cinema. The pasta was great and the salad was fresh. We enjoyed our meal outside. The service was great and the price was extremely reasonable. Definitely a wonderful meal for someone on a budget!

Looking for a cool, reasonably price Italian place for brunch. Look no longer. San Marzano is the place to be. Low price, great service, good pasta. Get there early, there is usually a 20 min wait.

This eatery on a boiling hot summer day was just a perfect breathe of fresh air. Even though short staffed, the team managed effortlessly and were quick with drinks, menus. All of the mains were amazing: meatballs, pesto, pear & gorgonzola, braised sausage pasta, were to die for. Top tips for anyone in NYC. Great value too

We started off with the Brussels Sprouts, Burrata, Fried Calamari, Tegamino, and Mixed Greens Salad for appetizers. All were excellent. For entrees we enjoyed the Garganelli Wild Boar Ragu, Garganelli Alla Norma, Garganelli Bolognese, Gluten-free Tagliatelle Butternut Squash and Sausage, and the Pappardelle Cavolfiore Siciliano. The Stemmari 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon was an excellent value at just $6 a glass. For dessert, the cannoli was one of the best I've had in a long time. The hostess was a bit odd - we were initially to be seated right in front of the door, at a picnic-style table with no seat backs, and the hostess seemed annoyed when we asked for a different table. Also, a few minutes later, she asked us if we would be done in a little over an hour, because she had the table reserved for another party. We didn't let that mar an otherwise excellent experience.

Absolutely amazing spot, great food and great service, I had the meatballs and shrimp scampi, my wife had the antipasto and a grilled chicken panini. Every bite was delicious, just like home cooking. It was extremely good value and all staff were so friendly. In particular there was a young Irish man with red hair ( he may have been called Liam), he told us that it was his first night working there, well it certainly didn’t show as he is an absolute professional in hospitality. I will certainly make it my business to return again.

Stopped here with a group of 8 after a bike outing. The hostess fixed up a table for us right away(remember we had 8). Ordered wine, very reasonably priced and very good, and then looked at menu. We ordered 3 different appetizers-meatballs were the best; then ordered our pasta. Wild boar pasta was the hit, but others had bolognase, pear & Gorgonzola ravioli and all were excellent. Most were less than $10 per plate, and you received plenty. This is a wonderful restaurant!

LOVE this place. So cute - great ambiance, really busy , great lighting , friendly staff, good food, great price point!! Started with the burrata and the Brussels sprouts. Both were very tasty and the portions were huge! No joke this was like suburban chain restaurant big portions. Then we got the pesto pasta and the bolognese. The latter was awesome. So tasty and perfectly seasoned. The pesto was a tad too salty, finished up with the tiramisu - so so so good !!! And above all- my glass of Nero was 6 dollars. Yes 6. And I followed that with a beer for 4. And no it wasn't happy hour. Only thing is they don't take reservations so go early unless u are prepared to wait. Great for people visiting NYC on a budget.

The athmosphere is realy good, also the own made spaghetti are very good (the portions are little but ok). Only the staff is really slow. There are three members serving the guests (the location is not big) but you need to wait very long and sometimes, you have to order several times, to get you order remembered.

I had a excellent lunch/dinner. I have had wonderful meals here and my dinner here tonight was wonderful. The food is really delicious and very reasonable. The prices here are very fair and the portion sizes are very fair. The Caesar Salad was fresh and crisp and lightly dressed with cheese one top, the Pappardelle with Meat Sauce was perfectly cooked and freshly made in house. The Ricottella was a deep fried type of calzone filled with Ricotta Cheese and Nutella. It was gooey and sweet and savory at the same time. The service was so friendly and welcoming. Everything was so nicely timed and the meal was great.

Wow. We planned our after theater dinner here as a special treat for our son as he loves wild boar sauce and they advertise they are opened to 11pm. We rushed from the show and arrived at 10:35pm only to be told they would not seat us for dinner. I have been in the restaurant business all my life and when your hours say open to 11, you seat your last table at 11. If you seat your last table at 10:30, you say you close at 10:30. This was our last night in NYC. We explained and nearly begged the guy at the host stand to seat us. He willingly ruined our evening and refused to seat us even after hearing of our plans and effort to get there. I hate writing this review as I want to leave NYC on a positive note. That said, this is TERRIBLE guest service. So disappointed. Won't be coming back. With all the great choices in NYC, suggest others consider the same.

Definitely recommend this Italian. Found as wanted to eat before went to see Stomp at the theatre opposite. Amazing food and amazing staff especially one of the young waitresses with long blonde hair. Very accommodating for a gluten free eater as well. Great atmosphere as well

Go there for tasty fresh and cheap pasta. The raviolis were delicious. It's a simple short menu and it does the job really well.

We love this place and it has the best pasta at the best prices! Unfortunately it can get really crowded and you can't make a reservation unless you have 6 or more in your party. They do offer take out since the wait can get up to an hour and a half on a Friday night! Would definitely recommend going early like 5 or so to beat the crowd. Love this place and their pasta especially!

My best friend and I went to this restaurant for dinner and it was a disaster from the start. Our waitress could barely speak English, and we had to repeat our order requests to her several times. I had to ask her for bread for the table, and when our meals finally arrived, it was not what we had ordered! Eventually our waitress served us the correct meals, and while the food was plentiful, the pasta stuck together in a clump and there was a massive bone in my meatball. I had to send my plate back, and the waitress was apologizing for the rest of the night. The atmosphere was atrocious, as the drunken hipsters were yelling so loudly that my friend and I couldn't hear each other talk. After waiting a good half hour for the check, we left the restaurant in search for some palatable food to eat.

We were three hungry wanderers visiting NYU and looking for a place to eat. We stumbled upon San Marzano and felt like we really scored. San Marzano is conveniently located on 2nd Avenue and 7th Street. This is near NYU and Washington Square Park, so if you plan to visit either of those, then plan to dine at San Marzano. San Marzano is not super fancy or expensive, so you can imagine how surprised I am that this is one of those OUTSTANDING dinners I won't forget. I had the Pear & Gorgonzola Ravioli (with toasted walnuts and cream sauce!) and it was delicious. My daughters had other pastas and panini and they also enjoyed their dinners immensely. While it is true we were back-pack toting, photo-snapping tourists studying our subway maps, everyone was so gracious, and our host, Ian, showed us the most efficient routes to our next destinations. They were VERY warm and friendly there! I think almost everyone in San Marzano (except us) was local. We were there at an odd time of day (about 4ish) and I noticed there were a number of people there who seemed to be still lingering over their brunch. I think it must be a nice place to just hang out. It's on a busy street with floor-to-ceiling windows, so it makes for great people watching. OK, in summary: Warm and friendly; delicious but not expensive; casual and artistic. We really scored on this one, and we can't wait to return!

Nice food, great pasta and burrata, good vibe Despite the awful acoustics, it wad always a pleasure to go to San Marzano and sit outside or at the bar I had grown fond of the place Unfortunately today charged me twice for lunch, even sending me a signed copy of something I did not sign! Shocking When I called about it, dry and no apology So disappointing

Had a great Sunday afternoon meal at this popular local spot. The pasta was so fresh and delicious. The wine was good and the service very attentive. If I lived in NY I'd be back all the time.

All pasta, $10, and delicious! A multitude of choices! I would go back daily, that’s how good it is!

San marzano is totally worth giving a try! I've been here twice and both times I luckily didn't have to wait to be seated. It's a cute, comfy spot that is VERY popular. The food is delicious. I've had the wild boar ragu, garlic bread, bolognese w/ rigatoni and of course wine! They do have a brunch menu but it didn't look very enticing to me however it seems quite popular and the mimosas are plentiful. Whenever I'm in need of some carbs this will be my go-to spot. It's a perfect spot to go to by yourself, with family, friends, date night. I'm a huge fan! $50 lunch date, with wine and tip included!

We stopped in for lunch at San Marzano and enjoyed pasta dishes which were very good value. Unfortunately, the white wine we ordered was not chilled and we had to ask for an ice cooler.

I got the pasta alla norma, and it was INCREDIBLE. The portion was very generous. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for delicious Italian food on a budget.

Very cool crowd in this hip East Village eatery. Freshly made pasta makes this one of my favorite places for lunch or dinner. Quick service and friendly staff.

I had read a review in the Epoch Paper on San Marzano and they talked about how good the food and service were and how reasonable it was to dine. The reviewer was not lying as I tried all the choices that were recommended and they were all excellent. First off the place is small and very noisy and you can barely hear the server but the food makes up for that. I had the tossed salad which could have fed two people. It was fresh and flavorful and had a very nice dressing on the side. The pasta with the Bolognese sauce was excellent and the portion size was perfect. Not too much or too little and the Ricoletta for dessert was delicious! A turnover with ricotta cheese and nutella inside. Very clever combination. The price could not be beat. For a three course meal with tip and an ice tea was $36.00. Where could you get a meal like this for that amount in Manhattan. This place is a gem. It also it packed so try to get there early or late because with a deal like this, the place will be mobbed all the time.

Working in the area, came in for a very early dinner between sessions. Server made some great suggestions: I started with an appetizer of pan-fried brussel sprouts tossed with fuji apple, a wonderfully salty pancetta & pecorino ($7)- a great dish overall. My entree was wild boar ragu (which is both slap-yo-mama and melt-in-your-mouth good) tossed with perfectly al dente fresh garganelli pasta ($9). I could not get enough, it was so tasty and braised wonderfully. Washed it down with their house red which is a montepulciano d'abruzzo for $6/glass. WOW. The montepulciano features muted red fruit with excellent acidity and classic, soft tannins- a perfect house red, and how nice to find a red wine that's a montepulciano! Really impressed, can you tell? Will be taking my pasta loving friends VERY soon! Did you notice the prices? Seriously… go before it doubles! A little hard to find but so worth it. Go, and enjoy.

Went here for lunch on a recent family vacation. The place was very busy but they managed to fit us in. The pasta was very good and cheap. I had whole wheat spaghetti with sausage and butternut squash which I enjoyed. We also had garlic bread which was good. I would definitely recommend this place.

We had pasta, I went for the pesto. It was Fresh and super tasty. Dessert was the best cannoli I've ever had!! Sangria and attractive staff were equally delightful

Restaurant is in a great location. We arrived at 1930 on a Monday evening and it was busy. We were offered inside or outside dining by a pleasant hostess, and chose outside. Tables outside are great. Kerb-side but with a barrier and plants which gives it a nice feel. Lots going on to watch whilst you wait. We felt the service was very impersonal and rushed. Drinks were slammed down as were dishes, whilst our various waiters ran about trying to keep up with demand. Food was okay. Luke-warm and presentation left a little to be desired. All-in-all perfectly acceptable, but won't rush back. I suggest a smaller dining area, or employ more staff!

Wandering around NYC one Saturday late morning and happened by this place. Checked out the menu that was in the window and any time I see "pasta made on premises" I do a second look. We were seated quickly and placed our order. They were serving a brunch menu or their regular menu (pasta, etc.). We got a salad, roasted Brussel sprouts, and two bowls of different pastas with different sauces/meats. Nice that it wasn't so huge a portion, but satisfying. Nice, soft and fresh pasta that wasn't too thick or too thin. Enjoyed it a lot. Oh, and a glass of wine for $7 I think.

Our family dined here prior to Stomp show. It was a lovely October evening and we were able to enjoy the open air seating. The pasta is fresh and sauces are extremely tasty. A great value for NYC dining. Wine was reasonably priced and nice selection. We did not feel rushed and thoroughly enjoyed our experience!

This place is just so good. All house made pasta that is consistently al dente and delicious. You match your pasta to one of their fabulous sauces (one of which is wild boar ragu - what??) And - each plate is $9 - even for dinner! Are you kidding me? My son just moved in on nearby and I am having trouble going anywhere else. The atmosphere is also great. Rustic Tuscan. Fantastic staff too. Love this place..

My boyfriend and I came here because we were craving good, homemade fresh pasta. We ordered the meatballs as an appetizer, but they came with a hair in them. They immediately took them back and gave us new ones pretty quick. They were really good but I wish they were bigger! My boyfriend got the boar ragu which he loved and I got the pesto which was also amazing! To top it off our server gave us a free cannoli because off the hair in the beginning of the meal. Overall this place is great, the food is amazing and you can't beat the price. Food came out very quickly as well. We will be back for sure!

We happened upon this place as we wondered back from Greenwich through east village. Oh what a little gem of a place! I loved the decor with row upon row of industrial draws (brass niples?) wooden tables and jam jars for water glasses. We ordered a little pasta dish each. My husband opting for wild boar ragout and a pear, gorgonzola and walnut ravioli for me. Both were absolutely delicious and left us wanting more!

I was in NY for a month, this was the worst restaurants among all of the restaurante that I have been during this period. All it’s employees were very rude. Please, don’t go.

This little bistro in the east village is a complete anomaly in NYC. Six kinds of homemade pasta, 12 different sauces for $9! Also pitchers if Sangria for $15! Fun atmosphere, fresh food . A real gem!

We started our dinner at San Marzano with brussels sprouts with pancetta, fuji apples, and pecorino. I thought that they were overcooked and bitter, but everyone else seemed to enjoy them. San Marzano makes their own pasta and you can choose to match their great selection of sauces to any pasta. The Bolognese was excellent over pappardelle. The wine list is not extensive but in keeping with the prices of the entrees. The vibe of the restaurant is busy and a little loud, but comfortable. Our server was excellent. The menu is small but adequate. It is a NYC bargain.

Still over average. Very nice brunch with bottomless mimosas (+$10). The pear pasta is amazing. Nice appetizers. Good sandwiches. Very crowded on Sundays. Good table service.

This morning is cold and wet in NYC, so we decided to try a restaurant near by in East Village. The experience we got is not bad but not great because it is a Sunday 11am. Let’s tell the good: Good price, simple menu, and good food! The French Toast is a must have. The pasta and the sandwiches are good. The bad: A unfriendly waitress just did her job, cold pasta as they wait for all dishes to come at once. Stingy hot coffee in a small cup and no refill, I understand it is no diner but the cup is tiny. I will try again on weekday with less patrons. Good restaurant with good food and below average because of their below average price point, possibly. Go try it but avoid weekend.

On a warm summers night we chose to sit outdoors. Which eliminated the noisy indoors. Our waiters were very nice and service was fine. The meals were ok. My angel hair spaghetti was not al dente though. The sauce was kinda mild. It was ok, but not good enough to rave about. My table partners had more flavour in their food. I tasted the brussels spouts and they were really good. If I am in the area I will eat there again. Prices are unbeatable. But I wont take a detour.

Our group of four visited this restaurant about 6:30 on a weekday. Our wait time was approximately 20 minutes, which didn’t seem so bad especially since it was packed inside and out. This restaurant appeared to be a favorite with locals, and had an exciting younger crowd vibe all around. Our group ordered a variety of pastas and sauces and no one was disappointed. I ordered the pappardelle pasta with roasted eggplant. It was delicious! Atmosphere, food, prices, and sharing a pitcher of sangria with good friends made this a definite favorite stop in NYC.

This is one of my favorite Italian places and I eat here almost every time we visit the city. Every dish we've had has been excellent! You have to start with the burrata - so creamy and delicious with a slice of proscuitto and crusty bread. For your meal, you choose your pasta and then your sauce. They do have gluten free options. Favorite mains are the wild boar ragu, butternut squash & sausage, bolognese, and the pear & gorgonzola ravioli. Save room for dessert and have the ricotella - simply amazing mix of baked dough stuffed with ricotta and nutella. The prices here are great, especially for NYC and the wine list is good.

We looked for an Italian restaurant close to the Orpheum Theater ( Stomp ) and spotted San Marzano less than a block away. They didn't take reservations for 2 people but explained that if we arrived by 6PM we'd get a table. We did and we did! It was a small but comfortable dining area, great service, and wonderful food. The meal arrived promptly, hot, and delicious. Our server returned several times to check on us. One time she asked us if we wanted bread; I would have expected it to be served w/o asking. It was also cold. Warm would have been better. But with this small exception, the food, service and atmosphere was top notch. A patron sitting next to us explained he was a first generation Italian who was eating here for the first time; he scored it a "10" and shared that it was home-cooked and just like he was used to.

I can't tell you how many times I've dined here. Living in the East Village, I kind of am spoiled by the amount of options I have but this one sticks out unlike any other. I probably eat here 1x a week at least. First off, their pastas are made in house and are all a flat rate of $9. You choose your pasta (gluten free available, too!) and you choose your sauce. There are probably 10-15 sauces to choose from so variety is not lacking. I've tried 5 of them (or so) and they are all worthy of repeat orders. My favorites are - whole wheat spaghetti with mini meatballs, wild boar ragu, or the bolognese. The restaurant is rustic, industrial and really inviting. They also do amazing brunch meals and offer unlimited mimosas etc. Wine and beer during dinner comes at a price of $4 and $6-7 respectively. If you have not been here yet, I highly recommend you go tonight! Run, don't walk. Also great for parties as they have bigger tables (6-8 ppl) available!

Love the pasta, it's homemade, quick, and priced right. My only complaint is that it's getting too popular, so it's harder for me to go whenever I want.

San Marzano was a hidden gem of a recent visit to NYC. Out exploring Greenwich Village we stumbled accross this place for a bite of lunch. The no-nonsense menu and reasonable pricing combined with the decor gave a good first impression and an opportunity to sit and soak up the atmosphere while watching the world go by. I had the Burrata for starters. Then came my mix and match pasta and sauce (pappardelle and bolognese) with a jar of Brooklyn Pale Ale. I'm not exaggerating when i say this was one of the best pasta dishes i've eaten in a long time. Fresh pasta with fresh ingredients for full flavour. The staff were friendly and attentive but its the food thats the main selling point here. Counting down the days till i can go back!

San Marzano is an excellent choice for lunch or dinner. The decor has a rustic look to it with antique, metal, pull out drawer cabinets as functional accents. The ambiance is welcoming and the staff was friendly and very attentive. The corner location provides two great views to the outside. However, it is the food that makes this place special. All of the pasta is fresh and hand made on site, and the sauces are full of flavour. The menu allows you to choose your pasta and the sauce you would like to go with it. With so many choices for both pasta (gluten free is available) and sauce, there is sure to be something for every taste. Having recently returned from a trip to Italy, I can tell you first hand that the pasta at San Marzano is as good as many I had while touring that beautiful country. I recommend enjoying your meal with the unlimited mimosas, and don't forget to finish it off with one of their many delicious deserts. The prices are very reasonable and the portion sizes are good. Their signage could be better as they could be easy to miss if you are unfamiliar with the area. Bottom line...outstanding pasta definitely worth stopping by for.

Short wait for a table on a Monday night, seats packed in very closely but not really an issue. Ordered the buratta to start - amazing, and then our 2 pasta dishes were cooked very well and were good portion sizes. Service was good but we were a little forgotten about. With 2 beers each the price was so reasonable for NYC we couldn't believe it. Would defo return

Although I don't live in New York, I've been to San Marzano several times when visiting my son. He's graduating from college, and this seemed like the perfect place to host him and his friends to celebrate. I'm so glad we made this choice! Jennifer was super helpful with our group reservation and arrangements. The service was wonderful. I had the arugula salad with beets, pecans and goat cheese, which was terrific. They have quite a few choices of pastas - including gluten free - and sauces, and my campanelle with pesto was lovely. We brought in a cake from Magnolia, which incurred a very reasonable $2 per person plating fee, and our server correctly omitted the person in our party who is gluten free. So in addition to lovely food and fantastic service, this place also shines for larger parties. Highly recommend! Note: this is was my third night in New York, having gone to more expensive places both previous nights. This was the best meal so far.

The wild boar pasta was incredibly delicious! I didn't want to finish it and even thought of ordering one more. Perfect price, good service.

UMI IS THE BEST she was so helpful with getting the seating we wanted and making sure we enjoyed everything very attentive very helpful she was a delight. the food … SOGOOD 10/10 service and the food was delishhhh definitely recommend this place to anyone ! We sat outside and it was so cozy they also have a really big wine /beer selection which was great.
Nice food
Was recommended to us by NYC locals... went for lunch with them. Fresh pasta, delicious sauces, lovely prosecco, good service!
