Beautiful space and good food but I will never go back because a $65 tip was added to my $15 to go order.

Bland Food

By OpulentCritiques |

Nice place however the food was Bland/Boring without any taste The service was below average,in a restaurant it’s terrible to have the waiting staff not far from your table having a discussion about their daily life For what it is I found it expensive but then again with the current rentals they need to charge these prices but at least make a ligule effort to justify I will give it a second chance in near future

Stuffy and Pricy

Server got too close and not really social distancing. I realized we are nearing an endemic but it’s not over yet. I got the burger because I truly believe if a place has a bad burger, you can skip the rest. At $30, it’s most expensive burger ever for even a specialty burger. While it wasn’t bad, I expected more for $30 and it honestly tasted similar to Shake Shack which is only a block away. Stupid me for trying. In these parts of town, Blue Smoke has the best burger followed closely by PJ Clarkes’ Cadillac. And frankly, there are so many great burger places in neighborhood like Le District and Bill’s and not to mention many more in FiDi and TriBeCa. I may visit for other dishes but I’m very doubtful.

WOW!!!

In Milan, we usually drop by the Sant Ambroeus pasticceria to buy their pastries to go but never had a chance to sit down for a proper meal. They have several branches in NYC but we were in Brookfield Mall so we decided to sit down for a proper lunch. Normally, pastry and coffee shops have entrees as an afterthought but we were surprised how good their food offerings are. We ordered carbonara, aglio, oilio e peperoncino and their 20 oz prime-aged ribeye. The pastas are above average but their steak is WOW!! As a steak aficionada, I can say this is now my favorite steak in the city as I like the rustic Italian version of steaks (similar to bistecca fiorentina), so tender, flavorful and perfectly seasoned with olive oil, garlic, rosemary. We topped off our delicious meal with the famous Sant Ambroeus cake (the best chocolate cake ever -- not too sweet but a round, deep very chocolatey flavor if you know what I mean) and a tart, lemony slice of their Principesa cake. I also would like to mention the beyond fantastic service. We were eating outside when there was a sudden downpour. We were relocated to their second floor and they gave gave us fresh, newly-cooked versions of all our orders at no extra charge. How cool is that? Reservations are required as it is really popular particularly for lunch on weekdays (lots of executive types). In fact, the legendary Vogue editor Anna Wintour was seated next to our table.

Veal Milanese is amazing but comes with a hefty price tag

By Travelers J&E |

Not sure how it happened but a nice bistro in Soho (or whichever was the original after the one in Milan) turned into a chain of fine dining restaurants, with the prices changing accordingly. Every few months we get together and have an aperitif (they make good Negroni and a decent Aperol Spritz) and then order the Veal Milanese. The food never disappoints and the service is always good, friendly and professional. The venue is elegant and quiet, not much of an atmosphere and it's usually quite empty but it serves its purpose. I remember back in 2020 when the Milanese was $39 and i thought it was expensive, then in 2021 it was $43 and already feel a bit excessive but it is a good Veal Milanese! Just so you know what to expect, nowadays it is $64. So do consider than a Milanese and a gazpacho (the cheapest on the menu) plus tax and tip will set you back around $110.

Consistently good food and service

We have been coming to this location for years and have never been disappointed by the food, wine, selection, or cocktails. The staff is always pleasant and very welcoming. Our favorite spot after a day of golf. They also make fantastic espresso martinis! Some of our go to dishes are pizza, Linguine alle Vongole and the delicious fettuccine bolognese. Love the Brunello by Castiglion Del Bosco, as well as many of the gorgeous Italians they have in their wine menu.

Not great at all.

This is the MOST pretentious restaurant I have ever been to - and I have been to many of NYC, finest. Menu average, pricing ridiculous for what you get $39 for hurrays & prosciuto appetizer?? $89 for a supposed rib eye that was far closer to strip?? Waiters full of themselves, addy managers not much better. You can do far better than this wannabe. The start off kicker was do you want one shot or two for your vodka & it was downhill from there.

Wonderful

Wonderful restaurant!! Really really wishing this group of restaurants survives this COVID disaster.Have to note the level of service - pretty spectacular! So many people on the floor. Constant rotation of bus boys, waiters, managers - all as a team looking for perfection. OMG. Very cute how our waiter, I guess of Italian descent, pronounced the dishes on the menu. The food is great.Little too dark in the dining area.

Awesome food and service

My friend and I had lunch here after seeing the Van Gogh Immersive Show. The restaurant is gorgeous and because we were early, we ate at a booth table. The waitress and waitstaff were extremely hospitable and were constantly checking in with us at the table, refilling our glasses, etc. They also have outdoor seating but it is quite sunny during the summertime, and a next door bakery/cafe as well. My friend had the carpaccio and I had the Fettucine alla Bolognese. Both dishes were yummy and to top it off, we had the Sant Ambroeus dessert which was a delicious chocolate mousse cake! It was definitely a great experience overall.

So good we ate here twice in one day!

We came for breakfast before visiting the 9/11 Museum, and enjoyed our breakfast so much that we came back for lunch. Food is unique, fresh, and affordable for NYC pricing/fine dining. We ordered French toast, omelet, and avocado toast at breakfast and at lunch we all ordered pasta. We did get a piece of cake for dessert which was the best dessert I had on vacation. Will come again the next time I’m/we’re in NYC!

Paying Attention

We were visiting friends that live in the city and this is where they made reservations. Lovely hip dining room right across from one World trade, we were gretted and seated promptly by a Hostess. While we were getting settled in to our table, all four of us were thinking was kind of close to the next table, The Host walked up and said " you won't be comfortable here I have a better table upstairs". He brought us upstairs to a beautiful table with views of lite up World trade. All of our food was wonderful, house made pasta's, Veal Milanese and the wine recommendation all made for a wonderful visit with friends! Only regret was not saving room for dessert. Enjoy!

Best coffee in NYC, hands down.

By Summersdew |

Service was exceptional. I ordered a black coffee, it was seriously amazing. It even topped the coffee that I’ve had in Italy, which is ironic being that the company started in Milan. I’ve been trying to figure out what kind of coffee they use. I’m almost positive they use Danesi espresso, but I need to know specifics as they are not in Florida and I am hooked! If you know, please feel free to reach out and fill me in! I can’t wait to go back next year so that I can drink coffee from Sant Ambroeus all day, every day.

Very good restaurant, good value for money for New York

Very good discovery and quality meal, I recommend it! While visiting New York we had the pleasure of eating there twice. The welcome from the manager who spoke French and all the staff largely contributed to our satisfaction.

Disappointing - Friday 15 around 17:45 pm

By NdG |

I strongly suggest a better supervision in this place My friend and I were served two vodka martini with a strong sent of lemon, after we specifically asked for olive. The waiter wasn’t really happy about us asking to fix the issue, but instead told us that’s how martinis are made... So what happened next is even better, the waiter brings back the drinks to the bar and the bartender simply decided to pour both drinks back into the same mixer, topping them up with something that for sure wasn’t the vodka we picked and served them in to two new glasses. Never had issues with sant ambroeus but this was really rude and unprofessional and definitely not worth $70+ (one drink each and a bottle of water).

Wonderful and gorgeous Italian restaurant near WTC

Brookfield Place is a beautiful, airy mall with a number of good restaurants and Sant Ambroeus is a favorite of ours. It boasts high ceilings and gently muted lighting that gives off an instantly relaxed but elevated vibe when you walk in. You can enter either from the mall (picture attached) or from the street. The mall entrance takes you past their wine fridge and a well-appointed bar that is stunning. Your eyes take you up to the ceiling and then to the banquettes and tables, everything perfectly laid out. The drinks from the bar were well-crafted and delicious. The staff is very friendly, corteous and efficient. We started with a luscious beet & avocado salad with feta. The linguini with clams was out of this world fresh and delicious, as was the Sant Ambroeus ravioli (spinach and ricotta w/sage, Parmigiano-Reggiano). I was surprised to see my favorite dessert, so hard to find, on the menu: principessa. It is a lemon sponge cake with vanilla pastry creme &whipped cream, topped with almond marzipan, and it is not to be missed! It was the perfect ending to a perfect meal. Special shoutout to George Laflare the manager with whom we had a very pleasant chat toward the end of the meal and who ensures everyone has a wonderful experience there.

Typical New York price level

Nice outdoor place for a meal in the summer months. Right by the 9/11 Memorial. Great staff and a manageable menu. Paid over $100 for a burger and a plate of pasta with the tip. Insane.

Morning in Italy

We were looking for a mid morning snack and happened across this beautiful restaurant so reminiscent of our breakfasts in Italy. Perfetto.

Beautiful restaurant

By Isunwin |

Classy, upscale, Italian restaurant with good food, and attentive service. Beautiful ambiance and decor with indoor/outdoor seating. Food was very good, moderately priced. We shared a caprese salad (it was a small portion), I had a simple spaghetti pomodoro that was very good, my friends had the cacio e Pepe, risotto with truffles and chicken. We had a couple of cocktails which were very good. This is a great place to come for a special occasion, date night, or to have dinner with a group of friends. Multiple locations throughout the city.

Excellent Dishes / Dining Experience

By Sharetheexperience4u |

This review is based on an outdoor dining experience which I loved. White table cloths, a nice size seating area, umbrella's to block the sun and across from the Oculus and Freedom Tower. Please note they have 5 locations in Manhattan. This is for the one in lower Manhattan. Sant Ambroeus serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and while I've only had dinner here the food is truly delicious and fresh. The gluten free pasta and cacio e pepe is excellent as are the hamburgers. I've eaten here 2-3 times and have enjoyed the experience. I'm hoping to make my way through the entire menu at some point. Fine quality cocktails, The service is quite good and staff is attentive. All in all an excellent dining experience. Definitely recommend a visit here. Sidebar: They first opened in Milan, Italy in 1936 and quickly gained a following. Just a little tidbit of their history which I found on their website in case that may interest you. Enjoy!
