had a very good meal here. a little noisy. would recommend the chicken quesidilla

Tasty food! We enjoyed our streak fajitas and chicken chipotle. Guacamole was nice and fresh too. Servings were quite filling. Nice lay out with a casual bar in front of the restaurant and a more quiet dining room at the back.

We had not been here for many years but friends of ours said they were there recently and it was quite good. We went to Santa Fe for dinner and it was a lovely meal. It was pretty standard Tex Mex food, more Mex than Tex, but everyone was pleased with their choices. The margaritas were outstanding and my glass of wine was a generous pour. We were happy with the service and the specials included incredible prices (less than the menu, not more). We are upper west siders and will certainly be back.

been going here for years....the food is now just ok....not creative or even tasty...almost feel like it is prepared in advance and reheated

Ate here on Friday night. Service was pleasant and overall a good experience. Menu is varied and found the food quality well above average for Mexican food. Overall, a good experience will return.

The guacamole was excellent, the service was very good. I had enchiladas that were good, my only criticism is I prefer the chicken shredded not cubed but that is just my opinion. I would love to see them carry local beer instead of just bottled Mexican beer. I would eat there again.

I returned to Santa Fe after a hiatus of 10 years. I was disappointed in the food compared to former years when it used to be on W 69th St, or even after it moved to W 71st. I ordered my favorite dish, enchiladas suizas with refried beans and rice. They lacked the deep flavor that used to be a Santa Fe characteristic. Th enchiladas were machine made; the cheese was waxy and didn't melt. The chicken was not fork tender and shredded, but a small slice of standard grilled chicken. The enchiladas were smaller than before. The beans and rice were served separately in a small bowl; the serving was about half the size it used to be. When I ordered cappuccino, I learned that the only coffee they serve is standard American. The decor was standard modern, no flavor of the southwest.

We wouldn't something American, but not Burgers or Pizza, this is Tex Mex/Mexican fayre and we loved the starters of Texan chicken and prawns and our mains of Chipotle Chicken and Steak Fajitas. The restaurant welcomes kids and the tortillas were a nice touch. I loved the oldish photos of Cowboys from the 1980's, they looked like they were taken in the 1880's. If we had found this place earlier in our visit we'd have returned at least one more time!

Fresh and pure chips and salsa, margaritas that excel in both taste and potency, and a friendly vibe outweigh the somewhat antiseptic digs.

Usually come here after seeing a movie on 68th Street. Always order the bean dip and large margaritas. Quesadillas are excellent. Nice quiet back room with a lively bar up front. Highly recommend.

Very good Southwestern Tex-Mex menu with some classic Mexican selections. Nice drink menu. Enjoy the margaritas. Modern bright Southwestern decor. Good service and nice atmosphere.

We came here to eat dinner before a concert at the beacon theatre. Very good atmosphere, Menu had a good selection of dishes to choose from ranging from small plates to full entries. We made reservation the day of because there was 8 of us otherwise it seems you can just walk in, i would call just in case. Our server forgot to put one of the orders in, so all our food came out except for that one ORDER, we felt bad we all ate while our friend had to wait till they prepared their meal. Didn't make our night since it was their birthday. Can happen anywhere.. but... The food was good, There is no need for us to come back to this place. Plenty of other restaurants uptown to choose.

We had Guacamole and Masa Crusted Shrimp as appetizers. They were delicious! I had a he Chimichangas and my friend had Enchilada Suizas and the plates were licked clean. Really good food, servers very pleasant and nice atmosphere.

I really liked this place. the quesadilla and the Santa Fe Burrito were great. My wife didn't care for the tortilla soup as it was very brothy and not thicker as she normally has it. I would definitely go back!

Pretty expensive and not that great. Right off the guacamole was tasteless. Needed salt. The fajitas were not bad but the toppings were very skimpy. Only 2 tortillas were provided and the topping cups were literally 2 spoonfuls each, no cheese. No hot sauce. It still wasn't bad, the chicken was cooked well and tasted good and there was plenty of it, but there was very little pepper and onion in the dish. My wife had the half chicken and enjoyed it. They are not messing around with their drinks, very heavy on the booze! Liked that part. Overall just mediocre and definitely not worth the price.

What's not to like, centrally located, quick and friendly service, nice generous portion of guacamole, nice margaritas and really tasty enchiladas suizas. Had the carrot cake for dessert, lovely. Enjoy!!

Having visited this restaurant strictly because of the name (we adore Santa Fe, New Mexico & it's cuisine - hello, green chiles anyone) we were very happy with our meal despite the fact that it was not a "Santa Fe" menu. Great Mexican food prepared perfectly and with care. The frozen drinks were to die for and the servers excellent and friendly. My husband had the pork mole with plantains which was very, very good - especially the plantains. I had the chipotle shrimp after asking the waitress for a recommendation which was delicious and not overly heavy. The sides of rice are very well done and tasty. We started out with some sort of mango shrimp roll and really could've gone for another...or even 4 more. Sadly, we did not have time to stay for dessert. The restaurant itself is on the small side but very bright and inviting. I would absolutely dine here again if in the area. Just don't expect to find any green chiles on the menu.

Went for a walk in Central Park and decided on an early-ish dinner. Nice neighborhood on upper west side. Interior of restaurant/especially bar and entry area is cute. We tried sitting in a four top at the front window but the AC was too loud and dripping on the table. We moved to the rear room which was okay - the main distractor being that the carpeting on the floor was sticky when you walked on it. Weird. Anyway, service was excellent. Decidedly southwestern flavors, so don't come if you want Mexican food. The specials advertised outside and on the menu were not being offered, so some disappointment, The food overall was pretty good but not great. I don't like rice too dressed up and oily - this was neither but it was very forgettable. The black bean soup (almost like whipped black beans) was the best of all dishes. I would give another try if in the vicinity.

Nice atmosphere. We were seated right away even though the front was packed. Santa Fe margarita was excellent! The fish tacos and steak quesadilla were wonderful. Would have like more attention by servers but I think there was a change over between servers and we got lost. Will go back again. Menu very interesting!

Enjoy the bar scene and friendly vibe at this upscale Mexican neighborhood joint. Food is good, as are the margaritas.

Santa Fe serves some good Mexican/New Mexican fare at reasonable prices. It's a nice spot for lunch (not too crowded, at least the day I was there) where you can have a nice conversation with your lunchmates.

We found Santa Fe by chance and were pleasantly surprised. Super service and good service to get served water and chips with salsa before the meal. We even got refill of chips and salsa. The food was delicious and authentic. Clearly recommended

Wonderful food . . . AMAZING margarita . . . delicious salsa . . . My daughter and I went here after having moved her out of Yale University and into an apartment in NY where she will be doing a summer internship. We had no idea what to expect and just went in based on the welcoming appearance . . . We loved everything about it . . . meal was wonderful . . . Highly recommend . . .

Had dinner here with friends that live around the corner. For the Thanksgiving season they had a special Turkey soft taco with a cranberry mole sauce that was very interesting. The place is always backed the the bard is always full of locals eating at the bar.

We had another great southwestern dinner here last night. The guacamole was so good, we had two orders. I really liked the Chipoltle Chicken. My wife loves the salmon. Very good selection of tequilas here -- I had Don Julio Silver. Very reasonable wines too.

...quite an 'average' experince when we went here. Nothing that stands out from similarly-themed restaurants like this. Food, atmosphere, service = average. The bar was full and looked to be a bit of a hnag-out for the 50+ crowd.

Great for the dishes proposed. Very tasty and tasty. Courteous staff. I recommend the chicken burrito. Recommended. Average prices for NY.

i thought this was a santa fe rest, turns out its bland mexican. nothing special or spice or southwestern. staff was nice. decor was like the food.

This restaurant close to the West end of Central Park has wonderful Mexican food. The e`chiladas suisas were delicious. A nice variety of wines compliments a small, but authentic menu. The decor looks like something out of Sante Fe, containing fine specimens of Black Navaho pots and Southwest art.

This is a good neighborhood place if you’re looking for something quick, fun and inexpensive. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is lively and the food is pretty good. Our group focused on the standard Mexican fare, with taco’s, guacamole, quesadillas etc. - all were very tasty. And the portions were pretty big, so we were able to share quite a bit, which made it even more fun. What you don’t want to miss when you go here are the drinks, there a many choices for flavored, and non flavored south of the borders cocktails guaranteed to please everyone.

I can eat that everyday

Ate lunch here. Not too busy and ate at the bar but service was excellent Had a (not very Mexican!) burger and fries which was tasty and well priced for NY.

We had been here a generation ago, and it was great. Now it is still great, but fancier. Excellent fish, shrimp, salads, salsa.

The vibe seemed different in the front room vs back, but both are more upscale than most noisy Mexican restaurants. We had decent service & good drinks. The food selections were what we hoped for—very good, but nothing unusual. Recommended.

I had had a very good lunch here, so we returned for dinner. It was very good. The service is excellent and the staff is so friendly. The tables are not too close and the noise level isn't bad at all. It's nice to be able to eat and carry on a conversation. We had the salmon and the steak. Both were wonderful. I will return.

Easily overlooked, this southwestern menu place is a delight. Large menu with excellent food. Wait staff are opera wannabes and very knowledgeable about the food

This is a nice neighborhood bar & restaurant. Service is good and friendly. Most patrons seem to enjoy their margaritas. I had the enchiladas suizas and they were pretty bad, very overcooked dry chicken and the sauce was nothing to write home about.

we had dinner here the other day, it was lovely - cool sophisticated upper west-siders, but not snooty.

Santa Fe moved to this location after being in a much larger space on West 69th Street for many years. The smaller, friendlier setting makes for a great last-minute plan and they can accommodate larger parties as the place is long and deep. The chips and salsa are some of the best I have had in any Mexican restaurant. I am a creature of habit and always order the enchilada suizas which are so yummy. The rice and beans are also wonderful as are the quesadillas. Maybe not the best restaurant ever, but far from the worst and definitely a fun way to enjoy a meal.

Nice restaurant, good food and excellent margaritas! We sat in the bar area, as we had not returned to our hotel after a long day, so did not feel like sitting in the fancier section of the restaurant. A good evening.

I ate fish but it was spicy even though I had said I am allergic please recommend something nonspicy. It was very hot just mild but as I am allergic I was worried and I took the plane right after but lucky I was fine in the end. On the French Fries there was some red chillie pepper. I could have complained and returned I suppose but I was with some people and I didn't want to make a fuss and embarrass them.

An overall pleasant experience on a Saturday night. The place was busy, but not so noisy that table talk was a problem. Service was OK (forgot to bring water, but did so promptly when reminded). Chipotle chicken was good, the grilled skirt steak was very good- tasty, well prepared and as tender a skirt steak I've ever had.

Was a good place to meet for our group of 9. Food was pretty good. Typical type menu and decor. Friendly staff.

The food is delicious, the atmosphere is relaxing and waitstaff friendly. Entrees are huge, SHARE one and get an appetizer.

Step down to a cozy, lovely, elegant little jewel. Near Central Park West.. Loved the food. Loved the atmosphere. Loved the service and felt right at home. LOVED the Ginger Margaritas. I 150% recommend Santa Fe. Prices are reasonable too.

We wanted to celebrate the Carnegie Hall debut of my soul mate Rain Worthington’s orchestra piece “Still Motion,” so we arranged a dinner for 45 colleagues, friends, and family at the Santa Fe Restaurant on West 71st Street. Alex Fresquez, the manager, was a pleasure to deal with. He supplied a set menu and set us up in the back room, where the warm southwestern vibe was perfect for the event. The food was delicious, the service seamless, the dinner a delight, the concert a thrill. Our guests complimented us on our fine choice. Thanks Alex, thanks Santa Fe. https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g60763-d423676-r746382588-Santa_FE_Restaurant-New_York_City_New_York.html#

There aren't many restaurant options in the neighborhood where you can have a good drink and a conversation without screaming over the noise. This is one such place. And the guacamole is very good! Menu is a bit limited, and the space is on the dull side. Margaritas here are very popular, but taste a bit pre-mixed. I'd give it a 3.5 if there were an option to do so, but leans more toward average than very good.

This is our favourite restaurant. The food is consistently of high quality, the staff is almost always pleasant and helpful, and the place feels relaxed and welcoming. Also, very child-friendly. Also, the service is very quick. The only down-side is that the margaritas are quite expensive and contain little alcohol.

Santa Fe does a nice job with New Mexican cuisine. The tortilla soup is flavorful and comfort food. The fish tacos are great. The guacamole is chunky and hearty. It's a cozy space, too. My wife and I always find a way back to Santa Fe every time we're visiting NYC.

Santa Fe has been a standy in the West 70s for many years. It is always good, never great, and has a predictable menu with usually good service. It was a lot better before it moved to this location.

I love this place -- when I looked at the menu I was a little disappointed -- guess I wanted more choices -- once I received my food I forgot about menu choices -- this food is great -- very tasty -- This is a favorite of some friends of mine that live on the Upper West Side and I know why -- The food price seems reasonable by NY standards -

Love this spot! Great people, food, and margaritas! Check out the weekly specials. YUM!

This restaurant is a real find. It's classified as Mexican but it's really a fusion of Mexican and Western with something for everyone's taste. The margueritas set the tone for a great evening. Good prices.

The food and drinks here were exellent from appetizers to dessert. I would go back in a minute to have another organic agave margarita on the rocks. The fish tacos were well prepared. The shrimp chipotle entree was outstanding. The service was a little lacking - but would still not hestitate to return.

Firstly I have to say that the majority of reviews for this place are spot on. It is a very nice restaurant with nice staff, nice food and pretty good value frozen margaritas. We ordered crab cakes, chimichangers, 2 large margaritas and 2 small margaritas and managed to pay the right side of $80. I would also recommend visiting there just for the bar. Good atmosphere and you get to meet some nice locals.

Stopped by here for the first time on Nov. 2, 2014, and I must say, I wish that I had done so many years earlier. Really good burger, quesadilla, and Great Margaritas!! The whole staff is super friendly!! I recommend Santa Fe!!

First visit. We were wandering around the Upper West Side, trying to choose a place to have lunch, and we just happened upon Santa Fe. I can see why it has been such a success for so long. Very reasonably priced food, including great guacamole, very good tortilla soup and quesadillas. Unfortunately, I wasn't drinking that day, so I can't report on the margaritas, but I'll assume they're probably good. Would definitely go back!

Slow service on a not crowded Friday night. The food was "fine." Nothing spectacular. I have yet to find great mexican or Southwestern on the UWS. The search continues.... I had a salad to start. It was good and fresh. I had the sweet potato and bean burrito. It was fine. Nothing spectacular. It tasted fresh. The chips were tasty. We all had wine so I can't comment on the margaritas that everyone raves about. It was so such a wait to get our food that they sent out a crab cake compliments of the chef. Again, it was good. I guess as I read this over, my issue was the service. It wasn't crowded but we had to keep waving the server down to order something. That shouldn't happen.

Great spot, especially if you go to Lincoln center, or if you happened to be there or if you live there. Food is hearty, filling and feels like home made. Service is excellent , efficient and helpful without bothering. Very good spot!

Food was okay, although the chips and salsa were plentiful and good! Service was very efficient and friendly. And overall price was very reasonable. For a quick bite, it's a good place to go.

This is a lively fun place that has consistently good food. wait staff are fun. The bar scene is very lively. The prices are reasonable. It is a great neighborhood place and lots of locals come so get there early or make a reservation!

The sangria had oomph, the wild mushroom quesadilla was filling and delicious, the guacamole was fresh and delicious, and the flan was fantastic. They should make their own tortilla chips. Homemade is always nicer.

Santa Fe has been on my favorites list for lunch whenever I work on the Upper West Side. The portions are just right, not too big and not to small. The seating is comfortable and not crowded like some Manhattan restaurants can be. The acoustics are good for conversation and there is even a skylight in the back room.

Fajita Mondays are a great deal. Both Mexican and seafood is very good, but the bright lights and large room do nothing for me.

The food was amazing and the frozen margaritas were great. The staff was very friendly but could be more visible.

Fine staff One fantastic race 🚗 driver Just be careful of how fabulous it is margaritas along very friendly staff

If we are in the mood for Mexican or Southwestern food we go regularly here. It’s a neighborhood bar and almost always full with diminish room in the back. Not fancy but always reliable food and drinks. Delicious soups and Fajitas!

We had a terrible experience. My wife is allergic to peppers so I asked if we could have fajitas with just onions and they said they could not do that. The “manager" Theo said they do not have extra onions and cannot make us plain onions. ridiculous for a Mexican restaurant to say that. they were unwilling to accommodate. will not order again

The margaritas taste as if made from a mix and the food is not very authentic, but it's a pleasant place for a neighborhood dinner with a back room full of strollers, babies, and young parents eating quickly. Roasted chicken was tasty, chimichangas were awful, and the quality of the ingredients was strictly super market. The guacamole and taco chips were just fine, and the prices were about right for the quality provided. Service is fast and efficient

A stone's throw from Central Park, this restaurant is rather friendly, with a courteous welcome and professional service. Excellent quality in terms of dishes (the Sliders were remarkable, the meat of extreme quality) and all for a... New York price! Expensive but therefore correct. Small downside: the eagerness to see you leave the table as soon as your fork has been put down (and again, one of us had not finished) with the tab being placed on the table.

I had not eaten at Santa Fe, since they moved a few years ago, but was pleasantly surprised. The menu is more casual now (more Tex-Mex), but the margaritas are just as good as ever and the salmon was delicious (although I miss the corn crusted salmon they used to have). Good restaurant if you're headed to Lincoln Center.

Went here with a 8 people for dinner on a Saturday ahead of Lincoln Center event. I was impressed as always with the pleasant atmosphere in the back room. Plenty of space instead of the usual crowded NYC experience. Nice Southwestern decorations. The food is very good, although I think it is not Santa Fe style. But it is a nice take on Mexican dishes. If you don't have a huge appetite, you can manage well with an appetizer for dinner. Keeps the price down too.

One of my favorite places to dine with my wife. I love this place and the food is delicious. Great service, Great food. Overall Amazing.

Excellent margaritas and wild mushroom quesadillas. Nice little upper west side spot.cozy warm atmosphere. Very close to Central Park... walking distance.

I have walked by this place a thousand times and finally made it on there. I thought it was very good. Both my wife and I had different steak dinners and both meats were very good. Staff is attentive and they did a good job with the decor. Good crowd as well.

Just returned from dinner here with friends, superb food, quick service, but unhurried, great atmosphere and the ginger margaritas are simply divine.

This is our favorite place in the neighborhood. This place isn't technically "Mexican" but more "Southwest" - think New Mexico, Arizona, northern Mexico. The food is always great, the atmosphere really makes it, though. A great place for a dinner with friends when you actually want to hear each other. It can get loud when big groups come in, but in general, they maintain a very nice convivial place.

It comes as no surprise to me that no one has reviewed this restaurant since February! It is so average, it is sad. The atmosphere in the bar area in front seemed promising ( lively but not too raucous). The back room is an extension of the building into what would be the garden but covered by a shaded glass atrium so nice light quality during the day but a bit chilly. might be nice in summer. But the food is forgettable. Apparently ,none of the other reviewers who were pleased with their meals have ever eaten good tex- mex or never went around the corner to Harry's Burrito when it was there! and to add insult to injury, the prices for this average fare are way out of line with other places with the same or better menu . Too bad!! I miss Harry's!

Having lived in the southwest and California, I know what I like in Mexican food, and I know what is good. So far, New York Mexican restaurants, mostly Tex-Mex style, have been sorely disappointing. However, Santa Fe, on 71st Street is exceptionally good. The service here was fabulous; lovely, friendly young people who seem to love their jobs or at least appreciate having an income while they do the audition rounds; staff was unflustered even when the evening rush began. The margheritas were powerfully potent and delicious, and the food was really remarkably good. We had the chile rellenos, vegetarian (and it was even served vegan without asking!!) burritos, chips and salsa, and all were far and away better than anything I've had in NYC.

Santa Fe is a great place to grab dinner on the Upper West Side. I was recently there on a Saturday night in July with my family. We had a reservation but the restaurant didn't seem overly packed. The decor is festive and the seating doesn't make you feel crowded. We started with chips, masa crusted shrimp, and the wild mushroom quesadilla. The shrimp were cooked well and served with a delicious take on cocktail sauce. I particularly enjoyed the quesadilla, it didn't have the overpowering mushroom taste that some dishes have. For my main course I had the chimichangas. It is served with once steak one and one chicken one. Both were delicious although I preferred the steak one. The chicken has a sauce inside that can drown the meat a little bit. All around a very good dish. For dessert I would definitely recommend the Flan, it's flavorful and not too heavy. I ordered two margaritas over the course of dinner, one pomegrante and one grapefruit. They were both a little strong but good. The grapefruit one was probably my favorite although next time I'll ask for them without salt since there was a lot on the glass. Santa Fe is an all around great place to get dinner with family or friends.

Overpriced.

Santa Fe is a long-standing favorite. Great margaritas made by the best bartenders in town. Delicious food and the bar hosts some of the most spirited conversations from the locals. This may be what the tv show “Cheers” emulated. Don’t miss coming here when you find yourself on the upper west side.

I live in an area that has real Mexican cooks cooking real home Mexican food. The Sante Fe was good by many standards. It wasn't as good as I get at home. But hey I wasn't at home and for Mexican in the middle of New York this was pretty good. Great service and atmosphere.

Really really bad. Writing anything else would be a waste of my time. But I'm required to by TA. I didn't know that chips and salsa could be so bad. Not even tostitos level. Fish tacos were made with the hardest, most overcooked Mrs Paul fish sticks you have ever tried. Margaritas are a joke. I woke up at 3am with a very distressed stomach and a bad taste in my mouth.

Chose this restaurant while we went for a walk with our relatives in the neighborhood. We shared our fish tacos and loved the quality of the fish.

Delicious food and tasty margaritas! Attentive and knowledgeable waitstaff. Enjoyed our meal and will be back.

Santa Fe is a gem. The menu is fresh, eclectic, and broad enough to cover a wide variety of tastes. There's a full bar with reasonably priced drinks. The complimentary salsa is excellent. The decor is clean, simple, and tasteful. Santa Fe in NY (71st St & Columbus Ave) is excellent for lunch or supper. The wait staff is friendly and eager to please. The food is superb. The bean dip appetizer is out-of-this world. Kudos !

The room is warm and relaxing. The service was terrific. The food was delicious. It was a lovely place for lunch. I will return. I especially liked that it was quiet, friendly and everything we tasted was very fresh.

The best Southwest dinner ever!! We had sampled the barbicoa and shrimp rolls are delicious. I recommend the skirt steak dinner with chimichurry sauce!! I cannot wait to come back !

Loved this place that is cozy, accommodating, with delicious food in generous portions, really pleasant service that is present without being assuming. You feel cared for and about without anyone hovering or intrusive.

We stop at Santa Fe almost every time we're in NYC. It offers ample portions at reasonable prices. The trout was cooked to perfection with a tasty Chipotle sauce. The chimmichangas were lightly fried and had tasty fillings. The staff is friendly and attentive and you can carry on conversations with having to yell above the din.

We stopped in on a Wednesday night for dinner. We were able to get a table in the back dining room. The food took a little while, but it was pretty good. Our waiter was very friendly and the staff brought more salsa and water when we needed it.

Fun place with an excellent bartender, good food and delicious margaritas! Found this place while strolling around the city, and we will definitely be returning! You know it is a good spot if you are hanging out with the locals!

The hotel recommended this place as being close to Lincoln Center and a good choice between matinees and evening plays. It's fine with decent Southwestern style food but not up to the standard we've come to expect from NYC restaurants.

Had deliery last nigt. Nothing really notable. The menu was a strange version of Tex-Mex and not really Santa Fe-like. Probably will never eat here again mainly because we're moving back to Brooklyn next week.

After a stroll thru Central Park on a Thirsday early afternoon my wife and I happened upon the Santa Fe. The sign out front advertised Best Margaretta in NYC. Maybe it would be and maybe not but my wife and I were hungry, thirsty and so miss Mexican cuisine that we enjoyed so much when we lived in CA. In the end we found the margarettas to be very good. My wife's chimichanga (beef) was to her liking and came with a nice side salad. My port burrito was large, attractive and very good. Was this the best Mexican food we'd ever had - probably not but it's the best I have had in NYC and I have tried a lot. The restaurant itself was attractive, comfortable and left like a neighborhood hangout. At least it would be for me if I was a local. At lunch there were several gentleman having business lunches. Several other couples like us. A mother and her son and a table with five woman who were obviously old friends catching up. This was an affordable, tasty and comfortable lunch that my wife and I will include in our recollections of visiting The Frick, walking thru Central Park, having lunch and then walking down to Lincoln Center....

My wife and I have been here twice. An easy walk West of Central Park, the setting is comfortable and bright. The food is exceptionally good Mexican for being East of the Mississippi. The margaritas are wonderful. The service was friendly as well.

Very Good food and excellent margaritas. Only negative was the watery salsa that didn't adhere to the chips. Areas of Improvement: 1 - The restaurant has two rooms. We dined in the back room and the material suspensions from the ceiling exhibited lots of water marks ... unsure if there have been leaks or very bad condensation but it isn't attractive and has seen better days.. 2 - We found the acoustics were overall noisy. There were three tables of young children and we could hear everything from the adjacent tables. It would better to sit in the front of the restaurant where the sound is better absorbed. The restaurant has been around at least since the 1970's and has stood the test of of time being an Upper Westside neighborhood favorite.

Good southwestern!

Good place to drink three too-strong margaritas and then have someone propose to you.

Santa Fe is a wonderful upper westside spot with a very nice staff and quite good Tex-Mex food. The bar is one of the most welcoming places around and the drinks are well-poured. The Fe's Margaritas are world renowned and delicious.

Our group of six adults had a table in the back. This afforded us the opportunity to really catch up and hear each other while enjoying the guacamole appetizer and margaritas. Everyone in our party ordered something different for dinner and everyone enjoyed their food. The service was attentive, not hovering. Atmosphere very comfortable. It proved the perfect location to begin our celebratory weekend.

For 20+ years setting the standard for neighborhood cantina excellence. Reliable, reasonable, and not without charm. Now if only some of the old regulars could unglue their elbows from the hallowed bar space and get some sun, the restaurant might not seem as murky.

Having just moved here from Las Vegas I was craving mexican food. New Mexican is my favorite type of mexican food. Santa Fe had great selection of margaritas entrees and specials. everything was delicious.

Designed to make you feel as though you are in Santa Fe, service is terrific as is food. Price very fair. This was the first time we've been to Santa Fe and we'll be back

This is one of our go-to restaurants on the UWS. Service is friendly and food is pretty good with a large menu. Most importantly, you can go with friends and talk -- the noise level is not crazy energetic and too loud. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Love this place! Great atmosphere and decor. Food quality and taste is always excellent. Presentation of food is well done. Price is reasonable. Brunch is also good.

I usually have their salad. But I love the salsa, so I order salad to compensate for the chips I eat so I can have their salsa. Sometimes this place can be dead empty (at lunch, some days.) That makes it a great place to have lunch with your auntie who is hard of hearing, or a married man from the east side, or someone with whom you hope to do business. Dinner crowd picks up, but I am always happy to discover it's not as noisy as neighboring places.

My wife and I went to Santa Fe for dinner last Saturday. This is a standard (well, maybe one notch above standard) Southwest cuisine restaurant in Manhattan's Upper West Side. The restaurant did not disappoint: 1) fast and attentive service. Our attendant was quite knowledgeable about the offerings and had no attitude. In fact, she was quite cordial. Similarly, the support staff were always around refilling water and chips without being summoned; 2) My half chicken with vegetables and cilantro potatoes was quite tasty and fairly well priced. More expensive yet very good indeed where the stuffed crab cakes that my wife ordered. Both dishes were well presented. Unfortunately, we could not have dessert since the above dishes left us thoroughly full; 3) the atmosphere is quite pleasant and not too noisy for a medium-sized windowless space. The decor, in Pueblo'n'desert-style pastels, was subtle and not overdone. Going for dinner after 9PM was definitely a plus, since we did not experience any rushing. It is an overall good place for a casual dinner out with good food with no pretentions of fake grandeur (although just maybe a tad pricy at about $81 for two people, tax and tip included). Yet I would not be fair if I did not mention that $18 of the tab belonged to my two on-the-rocks margaritas that were quite satisfying.

I had been told about this restaurant but am usually skeptical of Southwest or Mexican cuisine in New York. However, we gave it a chance and had a very good meal. The staff were very welcoming. During dinner we were visited by the chef Jose, He wanted to know how we liked the food and told us about his home in Mexico. We felt very welcome but not in an obtrusive way. Also Scott the manager stopped by to make sure everything was OK. The waitress was completely on her game and very cute to boot. We started with the house specialty margaritas which were strong and not too sweet while we nibbled on complimentary chips and home made salsa. For appetizers we tried the calamari which was some of the most tender and fresh that I have ever had. We also had some hot wings that were authentically spicy and tangy. For dinner I had the shrimp with chipotle sauce and my companion had the chicken with chipotle. Mine had a black bean salsa/ salad and some very tasty rice. Everything was cooked to perfection. We finished with some churros with a two different dipping sauces. It was somewhat decadent and very delicious. Portions were generous and I thought the food was a reasonably good value. My only complaint was that my shrimp were not piping hot. After dinner we pulled a stool up to the bar and I sampled a few of their very extensive collection of Tequilas. Ask the bartender to recommend something to your taste and you won't be disappointed. I did not give the atmosphere five stars because the room was a little too open for my taste. The restaurant was tastefully decorated and all in all made for a pleasant dining experience. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys good Mex/Southwest cuisine that is moderately priced.

A group of friends and I had a delicious dinner before a movie here last week. Pleasantly surprised with the quality and creativity in the menu for vegetarian and carnivorous options. Lovely ambiance and great service - will definitely return during my next visit to NYC!
Second Visit Did Not Disappoint
I did not realize I had made reservations for the same restaurant I had eaten at a few years earlier. I was with adults then and returned with my daughters, ages 10 and 7. Per our request, we were seated at a corner table in the back. Our server was excellent. He did not mind having children at his table and was great with them - so much so they wanted to go back the next night. The food was excellent. I enjoyed the special flautas and my daughters loved the chimichanga and cheese/scallian quesadilla.
