Convenient and Tasty

By Yog-Sothoth |

My friend lives in the building upstairs and I think she and her spouse eat here many times a week. This was my first time. Good selection of quasi-Mediterranean bistro food, and friendly, prompt service.

Decent Restaurant

By ELIAS B |

Came her with a friend for an after work dinner. Clean nice decor. I had the Salmon, not bad One issue, we asked for more bread and they wanted to charge us $3.00

Fantastic!

We went yesterday New Year's Eve after attending the New Year's Eve Concert for Peace at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. It was after 9:30 p.m. There were 4 of us. I'll focus on what I ordered and/or ate: the ezme, the hummus, the zucchini pancakes, sauteed vegetables and alas a burger. Everything was fresh, very well seasoned and delicious. The bread was also wonderful. The hummus was fresh and very tasty. The ezme, made with walnuts, pomegranate molasses (I think), sweet peppers and tomatoes was refreshing and positively delightful. It took center stage. This was not "typical" Turkish food rather I got the distinct sense that the cooks really took pride and paid close attention to the quality of the food that was being served. Others in our party had the chicken kebob and salad, both were very good. In spite of the chaos the servers were attentive and the dishes were brought out promptly. No one rushed us and we were there over 1 and 1/2 hours. The unexpectedly delightful belly dancer and very eclectic selection of music were extra treats. I will definitely be returning to try some of the other items on the menu as well as the ones I savored on this first go around!

Great Food

Not only was the food fabulous but the owner/chef was a charmer. Could not do enough to make us happy. Could eat there every day and so reasonably priced.

Great place to eat in Harlem

By gary c |

Tremendous place... the food was super... the wine was above average... it's located close to the heart of Harlem. The service was great my first time there and about average my second visit... it was slow service.. but they only had one waitress to take care of the outside and inside... however, the food was fabulous!!!!!!!!!

Turkish delight

Very nice place with excellent food selections....you will be in heaven if you like eggplants. The place is nice, the food good and the service very attentive.

Good shawarma, good staff

By Markus A |

Had a good shawarma and tasty draft lager. Staff members were very friendly. I liked the stylish interior of this small place in western Harlem. :-)

Nice place

By EKU1 |

Enjoyed our dinner there very much. Kebab plates are nice. Had the Savann seafood meal with mussels, etc. it was good, but a lot of food and the noodles were ok, but not special. That said, we would go back.

High Quality Food and Service

By Gillette18041 |

Moved to Harlem from UWS 2 years ago and apparently their customers didn't know it as the place was pretty empty on a Sat night. Our food was excellent quality and expertly prepared from the salads to the turkish coffee, which no one in NYC seems to know how to prepare. Worth a trip uptown.

Love!

This restaurant is wonderful!! Brunch is delicious at a price you can't beat! I highly recommend this restaurant and I plan to return very soon.

Nice Neighborhood Joint

By LovesDessert |

Pleasantly surprised. Although interior doesn't look anything Mediterranean. I tried a traditional Turkish dish called Manti-Mini Turkish ground lamb dumplings in light garlic-yogurt sauce. I really liked this dish! Would order it again. My boyfriend ordered the Shish Combo Kebab Platter. The cold mezze platter was delicious: With hummus, ezme, baba ganoush. Very good service!

Gem of a place

By drtgfnz |

Good menu with a range of choices. Daily specials. Friendly staff and attentive service. Food is tasty and prices reasonable. Appreciated the complimentary Turkish bread and olive oil. Seems a popular place. Well worth seeking out.

Terrific Harlem restaurant

By garyrichmond |

Savann is located close to 125th Street on Frederick Douglas Blvd within view of the Magic Johnson Theater and near much of the Harlem 'action' on 125th and 116th Streets. The food is excellent and the service is very good. You can make a meal on appetizers alone. Try the Grilled Portuguese Octopus (tender and delicious) and the Crab Cakes with Cucumber Wasabi Sauce. For a main course consider the Turkish Manti, lamb dumplings in a garlic and yoghurt sauce, or the Pork Loin with Wild Cherry and Ginger Sauce. Sit outdoors if the weather is pleasant. This is a laid back, moderately priced restaurant that you'll want to return to. Check out their happy hour drink specials too.

Delicious dinner with prompt service

By Holly K |

Our two pasta dinners (the ravioli and penne pasta with Gorgonzola) were delicious as was the house Italian wine. We let our waitress know our time constraints and we were served very quickly with plenty of time to get to the Apollo which is close by. Nice atmosphere too. Glad we found it!

Very good

By Laurel |

Great vegetarian options....meat Kabobs good. Good wine choices. Very close to the Aloft hotel in Harlem and only a block away.

An unexpected find.

By RafikiLondon |

This restaurant visit was not researched or planned. I just happened to be in the neighbourhood and wondered past. I found a very friendly, almost village-like atmosphere, topped with great food, excellent Turkish coffee and a good drinks menu. Service was brilliant and with a smile. My hotel staff later told me it was one of their recommendations. I was tired after a16hr flight, confused and dazed but this place helped me feel human.

Great addition in Harlem

By Leonardo Z |

Finally a great "real" Turkish place in Harlem. The food is great as the service. Interesting wines from Turkey. This place is just a great pearl in Harlem.....

Soup and the cold meze platter hit the spot

By VHikerChick |

This restaurant is right down the street from the Aloft Harlem, so I headed right for the restaurant after checking in. I started with a bowl of red lentil soup ($6) which was very good. The meze platter consisted of ezme, hummus and babaganoush. The platter was accompanied by delicious bread and a small bowl of olives. The babaganoush was my favorite of the 3 simply because I love eggplant. It was chunkier than I am used to but that was a nice bonus. I enjoyed the ezme which was a little spicy and not as liquidy as I have had in Turkey. The hummus was good too. Service was excellent and I was in and out in 45 minutes. I will definitely eat here again when I stay at the Aloft Harlem.

Good eats!

I am a vegan and I love the falafel sandwich w tahini sauce. I like this place, nice music especially the live music.

Outstanding Turkish Cuisine

By Mark W |

What a delightful surprise, Istanbul in Manhattan just North of Columbia University, in Southwest Harlem. My wife and I shared the stuffed baby eggplant special, hummus, octopus, felafel, and a delicious dish of ground lamb dumplings in yogurt sauce. Excellent service and moderate prices.

Hits the Spot

Conveniently located mediterranean food. Pretty empty when we came in late on a weeknight, attentive service and passable wine list. Will revisit if I'm in a pinch and need a fix!

Excellent Turkish Restaurant

By Dick D |

Savann had really well-prepared Turkish food in an unfancy but nice setting - plus the service was excellent. The dinner specials were extremely good and items on the daily regular dinner menu were also of high quality. All 4 of us shared and agreed (as frequent eaters of Turkish, Greek, and related cuisines). Prices are moderate. We'll be back.

Delicious dinner on Saturday evening.

By Travel4lifejanie |

Some friends and I ate dinner here on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was a short walk from the Aloft hotel we stayed at. The mediterrean and vegan meals on the menu all sounded delicious. We all enjoyed our meals. A gem on Fredrick Douglass Blvd. in the heart of Harlem !

One of our favorite meals in NYC

By nwahl173 |

My husband and stayed at a nearby hotel for our trip to NYC. On the first night we asked the hotel for somewhere close and good and they recommended Savann. It was amazing! I got the penne pasta with Gorgonzola and my husband had the pork chop. Both were wonderful. We also had some turkish wine that was very good. I can't remember the name but there was a rooster on the bottle. Chocolate lava cake for dessert was to die for! We even went back for lunch at the end of our trip before we caught our shuttle to the airport.

Pleasant all around

By Maura K |

We ordered the two specials of the day, a stuffed baby eggplant and fresh local sea bass. Both were excellent, as was our appetizer of hummus, babaganoush and esme. This Turkish restaurant is well located and is a pleasant space that includes a nice covered patio. Service was good, and prices were reasonable given the quality.

Terrific Mediterranean

By Mark W |

Savanna features Turkish fusion Mediterranean cuisine. Food is meant to be shared among friends. Savanna is perfect for offering a variety of tastes in shared plates. Three of us passed around hummus, the variety of hot Mezze, octopus, crab cakes, and seafood risotto. A great, fun meal for a low price.

Mediterranean Bistro

By ToniMatt |

A small restaurant along Fredrick Douglass Boulevard in Harlem. Staff was cheerful and attentive. Many locals seem to be regulars, which is always a good sign. Menu focuses on Mediterranean food. The grilled calamari salad was particularly good and a refreshing option from the battered/fried version (which they also have). The apple tart for dessert was dressed with cinnamon gelato and strawberries, which was perfect. Both their menu and wine list are limited, but plenty of good options in both.

No complaints

By Annemarie C |

We were staying at the nearby Aloft Hotel and returned late from the theater on a Saturday. We were the last diners and seated shortly before the kitchen and restaurant closed. The lamb chops were tender and so very tasty. Same thing with the pork loin. It was a good late-night stop. (I was not pleased with the red sangria; rather bland and little fruit-taste.)

Unexpected delight!

By Janet G |

Menu is a mix of Italian and Mediterranean. The night I visited the restaurant was not busy. I started with the cold mezze appetizer which was huge and consisted of ezme salad (must try if you like spice), baba ganoush (incredible) and an excellent hummus. For the main meal I I ordered the chicken kabobs which were delish. Looks like I have lunch for tomorrow!

Great lamb in New York

By Francisco V |

Excellent place to eat a good lamb. Service was very good. Pita bread and olive oil delicious. We are tourist from Nicaragua and went all the way from time square to enjoy the place. An easy ride by metro. The music created a very smooth environment.

Interesting lunch

By Genny77 |

Savann is a Turkish restaurant with a modest but interesting menu. My husband had a skirt steak wrap platter. The wrap had a very good portion of meat in it and came with crispy french fries. I had the meze platter which came with delicious baba ghanoush, hummus, esme and falafel. The meal came with fresh bread which I used to dip in the spreads. We had a glass of Turkish white wine to wash the meal down. We were too full to have dessert. Prices are reasonable. Enjoy!

Best dinner I've ever had

By Dora R |

For me, this small, local restaurant is the best place to eat in NY. The food was perfect, best grilled lamb and lamb stew ever!!! Also great value for money!

A Must Eating Stop When Visiting Harlem

By Chapowell |

I have eaten at Savann with my wife and friends 5 times now and I have never been disappointed with any meal ordered or with the quality of service. This is a true eating gem in New York City - Upper Manhattan. The restaurant is spacious, the food is delightful, the wine and spirit selections are great. Try it for yourself and don't be surprised if you see us there.

Quality Turkish food in Harlem

By TomM1951 |

Staying and working near Columbia, I wandered into this restaurant late in the evening after a long day. Despite my late arrival, I was made to feel very welcome. I had the Ezme as an appetizer. It was extremely flavorful, with a nice bite, but it is a lot to have by yourself. I would recommend splitting an order if you are with someone. The manti as a main course was a nice contrast, also very tasty but a different flavor, and quite filling. My server seemed to know the wines, which were very good. Who knew there were Turkish wines. Does not seem like something Ertegun would approve of.

Very good laid back restaurant in Central Harlem

By garyrichmond |

This is a very good restaurant in Central Harlem close to 125th Street (Main Street, Harlem), the Magic Johnson Movie Theater, and much else. It is easily reached by subway. All dishes that we've tried were good, but especially the appetizers and salads (but main courses are very good too). Make sure you try the octopus--tender, juicy, and wholly flavorful. The desserts are excellent too. While the wine list is limited, the wines we tried were very pleasant and inexpensive.

Good food

By chitownsam |

Friend lives in a building nearby sand eats here often. Lots of non-Middle Eastern items on the menu. Food and service were very good. Ask for small plate of delicious olives to start. They aren't routinely offered.

Great food but beware of the Cola machine!

By Danielle H |

Food was delicious, authentic and Mediterranean-inspired. The waitress' recommendations were excellent and the service was top-notch. Our diet cokes (presumably from the soda fountain) all tasted and smelled funny, like mildew or mold? Waitress then brought us Diet Coke from the can, which tasted much better.

Great Turkish food for a friends dinner

By tgalis |

I had dinner with a friend at Savann last night! The food was absolutely great. The manti is not to be missed. I had the meze plate before and it was absolutely delicious, too. It is the best Turkish place in the neighborhood. I highly recommend it!

A nice meal at a good price

By rc3746 |

The restaurant was recommended by staff at Aloft, just up the streen. It was not terribly busy, so we were able to eat outside. Food was very tasty, but nothing too spicy. I had the stuff pepper and eggplant, which was the special for the evening. Very nice. Charming, attentive service.

Great Med food in their newish location

By timjstark |

A wonderful dinner here enjoying veggie and vegan food under the care of a very helpful staff. It was not too busy (as we ate quite early in the evening), so we received solid attention from the wait staff. The food was plentiful, well presented, and tasty!

Great Turkish food in Harlem!

By Nerissa A |

Located on the upper part of Restaurant Row in on FDB in Harlem, I was excited to taste this cuisine. I've been to Turkey before. Everything here was great!! The meze was very flavourful, not short on spices! And the cheese rolls were addictive! Reminded me of some of the amazing breads that I had in Goreme. For dinner, I had the Crispy Grilled Duck, which had pureed sweet potato and a sweet/tart cherry/berry sauce. Absolutely fantastic!! Everything was cooked to perfection!! I recommend this on the menu!! I actually shared this meal, and it was large enough for 2 medium sized meals. Very well done! The staff was generally friendly.

Creative Menu and Well Prepared Food

By VTtraveler4 |

I ate here two different meals during a business trip, as this place was convenient to my hotel, the service was fantastic, and the food was very good. I had the pomegranate glazed cod for dinner one night and brunch on Sunday, which was an amazing value.

Yes. Just eat the Mezze platter

By April C |

If you're in Harlem and like Mediterranean food, then basically you cant skip a stop here. I had the vegetarian stew and also the mezze platter of babaganoush, hummus and ezme. My friend got the falafel and loved it. Wow for food. Relatively reasonable cost.

Tasty medeterranian style food

By IvyNYC |

I didn't know what to expect and was delighted. The atmosphere was pleasant and the flat breads and veggie stew were terrific! Looking forward to trying other items on the menu. The restaurant decor is a bit warn.

Very good

By Burkevillian |

Very pleasant experience, good service, good value. The lamb was ordered medium rare and served medium well. It was so tender however we enjoyed it anyway. Was good overall but we do not have an urge to go back

good food, no crowd

By horse54 |

great lunch specials. I enjoyed my chicken kebab and salad for lunch. I went back for dinner and ordered the pork loin with a prune sauce and mashed sweet potato..... delicious. Great service.

Good food, great people watching

By Ixplore2 |

I was tired from traveling and looking for a quiet place close to my hotel. The front desk recommended Savann, just a block away from the Aloft. It was a beautiful night and I sat outside, enjoyed a glass or two of wine, filling grilled seafood salad, and watched the neighborhood walk by on the sidewalk. The inside of the restaurant looked nice and fairly quiet as well. Both the hotel concierge and the server recommended the seafood, but there was a wide variety of items on the menu.
