How wonderful some great things don't change!

By MikeC |

Last time I ate here thirty years ago I was impressed. And 30 years later even more so. Gorgeous setting, incredibly what I thought had disappeared old-style service still exists. Very good food, lots of it, very different, awesome selection of wines, totally professional maitre'd of the type that are fading away. Can't wait to go again.

Very special place

By italyrstporta |

We were a party of 8 on a friday night so we were hoping to get a round table that they promised us when we made the res, we waited 15 minutes so it wasnt all that bad, but it was a perfect meal from beginning to end , pasta with game sauce and ravilo with truffle butter were probably best ive ever had!!!! Cant wait to return .

Cruise ship Italian food

By SSVermont |

I had high expectations based on the reviews, but was disappointed. While the service was excellent, the food was mediocre at best. We arrived towards the end of the evening and it was clear some of our first bites had been sitting for some time. The guancale in my amitriciana was tough. My duck was fine, but not very inspiring. Overall, the food quality was on par w a cruise ship or an all inclusive resort - nothing horrible, but not the sort of Italian we were hoping for.

Quiet environment; heavy preparations

By betsy1224 |

Given the excellent reviews for Scalini Fedeli, I was disappointed with my recent dinner there with 2 friends. This restaurant is set in a "old style Italian" environment, which made for a quiet dinner (on a bitterly cold Monday evening). We needed an explanation from our waitperson about the format of the menu - all prix fixe. Each of us chose from the $75 menu that included a number of appetizers as well as a main course and dessert. What we didn't expect but found a bit overwhelming were the number of amuse bouches. In most situations, we'd be thrilled with free, additional items, but given how heavy the preparations are at Scalini Fedeli, we were full before our main courses arrived. (When all the amuse bouches are added into the food ordered, the $75 charge makes dinner there a great value). Generally speaking, the food is quite good but heavy on cream sauces. Despite how few guests were at the restaurant that evening, it took time for the waiter to come to our table and take our orders. However, once the dinner service began, we felt that everything (including amuse bouches) came too quickly. If you have a big appetite and don't mind heavy sauces, Scalini Fedeli is a good choice, but if you prefer more modern preparations, there are plenty of other Italian restaurants in New York City.

Wonderful celebration restaurant

By Cecilia |

My husband and I have been here twice - first for our second wedding anniversary in 2021 and again last night for my birthday. Both times we had a wonderful experience! The service is impeccable and the food is wonderful. I wish they had more vegetation options for their opening dishes, and for their entrees beyond just larger portions of their appetizer options, but it’s still a wonderful experience. The ambiance is wonderful with real candles on every table, and everyone from the host to the busboys make you feel special. They even gave us a special moscato toast at the end for my birthday. Wonderful experience every time!

Even better than we remember

By Supertuscan1 |

We have not been to Scalini in a few years for obvious reasons and we are so glad to see the restaurant is up and running and doing well ,all the food that we had was fantastic and was difficult to finish ,all portions are very generous , service is also polished and friendly. We do dine out frequently and noticed that many of the better restaurants are having a hard time getting staff so we do understand that’s some restaurants are having trouble keeping their consistency but we are quite surprised here at Scalini it was even better than we remembered years ago!!

Best meal in NYC for the price

By msullivan10001 |

This is an outstanding Italian restaurant with impeccable service and attention to detail. The pasta was delicious, steak over the top, and fish truly outstanding. And did I mention the dessert! A great find in NYC and well priced for the quality and service.

Excellent

By Susan F |

The service was suburb. They made you really feel special and pampered. The food is top notch. It definitely should be on your bucket list to try if you are in the neighborhood.

Old School and Delightful!

By John S |

Dinner here is a treat from the get-go. Polite and attentive staff, a delightful menu chock full of flavorful and superbly prepared dishes, and a charming old-world atmosphere all combine to make the trip worthwhile. Top five on my NYC restaurant favorites for all the right reasons. Go!

Classic Italian....

By Wenovo |

Classic style Italian food and romantic ambience. The shimmering candlelight - long tapered candles can be seen through the windows from the street. Very inviting and elegant setting. We had the three course dinner and with the presents from the chef it was delicious and very satisfying. Of course they have a good wine selection, something you can count on in NYC in a fine dining establishment. We were staying in a hotel just a short distance away and know Tribeca quite well. With the many excellent restaurants in this neighborhood to choose from, here you will have a wonderful upscale dining experience. We travel to Italy often, love good Italian food and never miss a chance to relive some of the great times - great dining we enjoyed there. But be prepared to spend...it is Manhattan after all... The Scalini Fedeli restaurant in Chatham is in a very different setting - a farm house. We had a fabulous dinner there too.

Outstanding dining experience

By NYTraveler023 |

This place is located on Duane street, not the nicest of streets. But once inside, it is a great experience. Great service. We had the prix fixe and each course was a real joy. Great pasta, fabulous veal chop (watch out, it was 20 oz), and scrumptious dessert. My wife had the halibut, which was perfectly cooked. We have eaten at many of the highest rated restaurants in NY (not bragging, just trying to add credibility) and this ranks well with them.

dinner with friends

By Carolyn1127 |

My husband and I were there last year (2014) in December during the week. It was wonderful : a quite romantic evening with excellent service and delicious food. However we went there last Friday Dec 4th and it was a mad house : had to wait in the small bar area even tho we had reservations, the noise so loud none of us could hear? The duck was the best ever!! and they offered after dinner drinks to accommodate Just be sure to go on a week night

Great Find!

By AbingdonHoo |

We had four people for dinner and went here based on a recommendation from the concierge at The Conrad. Very quiet restaurant on a Tuesday night with a nor'easter moving in but a very pleasing experience. I had the Hamachi appetizer and the Branzino main course and both were perfectly prepared with superb sauces that popped in my mouth! The Arctic Char was beautiful and also was a star of the evening. Only one person had a pasta dish and it was superb. Excellent experience!

Highly recommended

By Johnson J |

It's a great restaurant with good vibe. Food is good. We had a lovely family dinner at this place. The staff is very friendly and attentive.

Christmas night in flia

By Val C |

Beautiful place! Very welcoming. Good food steps. Very good service. We went on Christmas night with my flia we spent usd 800 all 5

Great restaurant!

By MPMAZ |

Went here for a birthday with another couple. Was concerned after reading some reviews that this place may have been for the old stogey crowd, but found that wasn't the case at all. The space is beautiful and classy and the staff mature and 100% on point. The food was delicious from app through desert. It was nice to visit a restaurant with old time class and great food where the clientele wasn't in t-shirts. Will definitely be back

Good and authentic Italian restaurant - try the veal chop

By YY_Xie |

Stepping into the restaurant, I felt like I was transported to old Italy - groin vaulted ceilings, opera music in the background, Italian-speaking (and singing) staff. USD79 for a 3-course prix fixe menu was pretty good value for money, considering the standard of food, size of servings and the inclusion of amuse bouche and palate clesnser. I would describe everything that was served as "good old Italian fare". For example, if you ordered the pappardelle bolognese (primi), you would get fresh and unadulterated pasta that represent traditional excellence. The highlight for me though, must have been the veal chop (piatti principale), which was most flavourful.

Amazing service, superb food

By L776AUsusanp |

This was recommended to us by some foodie friends from New Orleans. Nothing disappointed. Nice old world feel. Most others seemed to be there for business reasons. Everything was low keyed. No recommendations for food, just look at the menu and enjoy

Exceptional in every way

By John C |

Our experience here was exceptional in every way. Every dish was a masterpiece, and service was impeccable. The dining room here is a work of art, intimate in a way that you feel part of the buzz without being on top of your neighbors. Highly recommend!

WE CAN'T WAIT UNTIL WE RETURN IN DECEMBER!!

By John T |

This is, by far, our favorite restaurant in New York City. Everything about it is perfect: cocktails, wine list, menu, food, service, and atmosphere. It's all better than "perfect". I can't think of anything that could improve it. I'm a seventy-one-year-old Sicillian/Italian, so I know Italian food. This is GREAT food. We'll be returning on December 14, when we and our friends return to New York for our annual Christmastime visit. We can't wait!

Our nyc favorite

By John S |

We love coming here ! the food and service is always great ,the room is beautiful as well , our favorite place for special occasions !!!

First class Restaurant

By Neil G |

Recently had a dinner reservation here to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. The greeting we received was warm, friendly and welcoming. Lovely table placement within the restaurant with a lovely low-light feel (perhaps a little low to read the menu). Employees were attentive and made you feel like they actually wanted to listen to you. Menu is extensive and I can recommend the soft egg ravioli (primi) along with the well presented sliced banana in filo crust for dessert. However my highlight was the Veal Scallopini (piatti principale), very well balanced flavours, the bed of spinach cooked to perfection. I’m a novice when it comes to Italian wine but I was first asked the type of wine I like and led to a Gemola Chardonnay Vignalta 2021 which was mellow, oakey with hints of peaches. Wonderful. Service was first class and I would recommend a visit if you’re in NY. If only I didn’t live in the UK. Exceptional evening for three at a high quality restaurant.

Great location. Great food

By stentdoc |

The food here was terrific. The Bouche was great. The targitello pasta was some of the best. My lamb chops were good but a bit too much sweet sauce for my taste. The soufflé was amazing. The staff were receptive and helpful.

One of THE best dinners we've ever had!

By BevyB |

We had an absolutely wonderful dinner here this past Thursday night. Just exceptional in every way...food prep and presentation, service, and atmosphere. We recently returned from Italy, and the setting made us feel like we were back. Some dishes we enjoyed were: grilled romaine salad, egg yolk ravioli, scallops with delish accompaniments, duck, and veal Medallions (although they looked different than expected). Even our more difficult-to-please dinner companion announced that it was the best meal he'd ever eaten. Extras that we enjoyed...ravioli with truffle butter, pallet cleansing sorbet, and our choice of appertiff, yummy raspberry topped lemon "cookie" AND a lovely Happy Birthday dessert for the hubz. The chef met us at the door as we left and as promised....here is what I hope will be viewed as an outstanding review of your work. Ciao!

Excellence

By Concorde |

Civilized and elegant...you can actually hear what your dining companions are saying, and they're mostly discussing just how delicious everything is. Good wine list. Superb service.

Stunning old-school Italian

By From-an-Israeli-Scot |

One of the finest restaurants I've had the pleasure of visiting. The food is absolutely superb, the setting beautiful and service fantastic. They type of restaurant that makes you wish you could give 6 stars. At $80, the fixed price menu is quite literally unbelievable value. They bill it as a 3 course menu, but in reality it's closer to 7 courses. Start off with excellent breads, followed by a selection of small plates, then starters (which are enormous), followed my main courses (also enormous) and then a dessert (but not before the pre-dessert palate cleaner. Every course, without exception, was excellent. Unfortunately this style of restaurant seems to be going out of fashion, which is a shame, as this is the type of place you'll be treated wonderfully all night in a spacious and calm ambience. The presentation and setting is old-fashioned, as opposed to outdated. Would come again without doubt. Come very, very hungry. And get the veal chop.

DO NOT MISS

By renick |

I wish there was an infinity rating. This place—from the ambience to the food—is truly something special. The servers made us “ole hillbillys from WV” feel so important. The amuse bouche were lagniappe and the wine list was well curated. Food—impeccable and well portioned. Servers were so attentive without being intrusive. My travels have taken me from Guam to Paris and I would have to say this place is truly memorable. In my humble opinion, this place is a “DO NOT MISS” when visiting NYC. Please do yourself a favor and have an amazing experience. Highest recommendation.

BEST ITALIAN FOOD AND SERVICE IN CITY

By John G |

We were a party of 6 with reservation which is necessary. Seated immediately. Given starters of house bruchetta. We ordered chicken, fish, pasta, rack of lamb, scallops and more. The deserts were incredible as well. The Napoleon is a must. The best service we have at a restaurant in years. I wish my photo's were better. They do not do justice to the presentation of all the dishes.

Price fix

By VCREW6 |

What a hidden gem. I have never been here before and lived and worked in NYC for a long time. Dinner with some friends. Price fix type meal that was fabulous. Reasonably priced and lots of different choices brought to the table. Will return soon.

AMAZING!!!!

By imax |

The food is exquisite and the service is top-notch, friendly without being cloying. BEST Italian restaurant in Manhattan

Great meal - worth the price

By Michael S |

My daughter commented after our meal that I must have liked the meal as I had not sent anything back(running joke in my family). This is a 3 course prix fix with a lot of choices. I had the squash ravioli which were out of this world. I took the server's recommendations and had the duck which was perfect. Deserts were all top notch. Highly recommend.

Good Food, Slightly Shabby

By BrynMawrBK |

Following a very long cab ride downtown, we found Scalini Fedeli to be cozy and pleasant with very good food. Service was good. It was, however, also somewhat down-at-heels and had an air of having seen better days. It's essentially a nice neighborhood place as opposed to one of the best Italian restaurants in the city. Overall, our evening was nice but not particularly memorable.

Outstanding Everything, as Usual!

By Ginnie D |

Been here before and will be here again. As the title suggests, this restaurant has it all...food, service, ambiance, and special touches that are over the top. One of the best restaurants in the world. If you go, you'll know.

Exceptional

By Kathleen K |

Staying downtown and found this place. The food was exceptional, the best duck I have ever been served. Husband had chicken and he thought it was wonderful. Service was excellent, attentive without being overbearing. We had to wait a bit for our table but it was worth it. We will be back again.

Great restaurant. Fantastic food

By AndyFLondon |

Scalini Fedeli is my go to restaurant when I come to New York. It never disappoints and last night was better than ever. Well done.

Best Food and Service Experience!

By CarolynSalzmann |

This was our second time here and we enjoyed it even more than the first. The food, service, and timing of the meal is perfect. This is an experience, not just a meal. I can't wait to go back soon!

Solid a little bit old fashion

By nyfoodie2000 |

Very good Italian food. Restaurant interior is nice, elegant just look congested. Tables are very close to each other. Food is good. We were group of 4 and other varieties of appetizers and main courses. Was good but did not have a wow factor. Service is very good all Italian with heavy accent but responsive. BTW their bread is great. I did not take desert but some took the tiramisu and said it was excellent. Bottom line, solid cant go wrong

Ok but not great

By rhensinger |

A lot of Service errors Out of my appetizer choice Food ok but not great Ambience - seemed rundown I liked the Tagalini. would not recommend the Veal medallions

It has been too long since I last visited

By BonvivantNJ |

I usually dine at this fine restaurant (one of the best in NJ) at least 2 to 3 times per year. I just had dinner again at Scalini's on Saturday, 09/28/19 with good friends. The night was that much better catching up with our friends in an environment with Great Food and delicious wine (a bottle of Cakebread Cabernet and Brezza Barolo). Far and without a doubt one of the best restaurants in NJ year after year. Great service, great food, great atmosphere and all is good with the world. Bon Appetito.

An Evening Of Elegance

By MingB155 |

I have been going to restaurants for a long time, and by far this has to be one of the Best, if not the Best dining experiences I have ever had. The food was outstanding, I mean every thing. They even gave us complimentary tastes of food that was on the menu. The service was so good that they made me and my date feel like a King and Queen. They go above and Beyond. I would recommend this restaurant as a 10 star if I could. It’s romantic, and the ambience was Perfect.

Just simply the best

By capriorflorence |

Have not been in a while and this is certainly still our favorite Italian in NYC, had great meal, the chicken liver purses with pistachio and the rib veal chop were incredible, service was very friendly for a somewhat formal place , can’t wait to come back !!!

Nice old school Italian

By lindas286 |

We came as a gift to our boss. Food was great to average, depending on who you talked to. I enjoyed most of my dinner. My friend did not like his fish at all. he said it was bland. The pastas were really good. Fixed price - very expensive.

Could have been better

By sham k |

Great venue. Service was great. wine selection is great even though they wer out of the one I selected. Amuse was devine. The soft egg ravioli was fantastic but the squidink pasta with seafood was bland, for main course, the Veal chop off the bone was dry, we ordered it medium. The fish on the other hand was good. All deserts were great, even the raspberry sorbet was amazing. .

A wonderful gem but hard to find!

By AMBlack2015 |

We walked for an hour in the dark trying to find this resturant. I must say it was worth it. The food and the staff were both excellent. We will return

Great pasta!!

By Elcie L |

Great food! I’d recommend to anyone who loves Italian food. The server was very nice with us. Can’t wait to try more food next time.

Authentic Italian restaurant

By MergirllNM |

This restaurant is absolutely regal in its setting with Italian warmth and atmosphere, fine wines and divine cuisine where you can truly sample a "taste of Italy." Food on the prix fixe menu is fancier than you might expect -- every dish served with care down to the detailed flower etchings of the plates. In everything from the fresh breads, pasta, meats, and refined delicious sauces to the rich (but not overwhelmingly so) desserts this place is the best. The servers are professional and polite and even with every table occupied it is a quiet place where you can enjoy long conversations. The scent of candles and fresh flowers mingle with a hint of basil and lemon zest to provide a relaxing atmosphere. If you are looking for one of the best authentic Italian restaurants to go to for a lovely romantic evening or to enjoy with family and friends this IS the place to go!!

Great Italian Food - Great Service

By Paulo Henrique Todaro |

This is an excellent place for high end Italian food, excellent service and a quiet place for either a business or a romantic dinner.

Luster is gone yet desire to give good service remains

By JRoAUSA |

With the feeling of a neighborhood gem and the worn patina of a musty antique store, Scalini Fedelia has shining moments and low ones as well. Shining: service. It ends there. Perhaps the prix fixe lends itself to a formula in which multiple dishes can be served with the same foam or a rushed plate of scallops can be covered with said foam to hide the lack of a good sear. Without a proper sear the scallops are just rubbery. The veal was just OK. Pasta was uber al dente, could have used a little more cooking. All in all not the worst but definitely not up to the prior reputation. it must have been a while since The Zagat team actually dined here - not up to the Zagat rating.

Just as good as the first time

By Donna L |

We dined at SF on our very first trip to NYC in 2009 and decided to revisit this year. It was still a wonderful dining experience from start to finish. Yes, the restaurant is a bit old and may need a coat of paint but you may want to thank the beautiful, real candle smoke for that. Those candles truly add to the ambiance of the whole place. The maitre'd was a consummate professional and worked the room as if he owned the place. The way he greeted each and every guest and seated them was very impressive. Each and every server who came to our table regardless of whether it was to pour water, serve from the variety of breads available or check in on wine was a pleasure. The menu is extensive and quite special. Absolutely love the prix fix option and the recommendations offered. Every single dish we had was outstanding. Highly recommend the squid ink pasta, oregano halibut, and chocolate dessert. Everything was expertly prepared and presented. A meal to remember!

Excellent Food.

By Chrissie77 |

We chose this restaurant to celebrate a birthday. It was quite a cab ride from our hotel, but luckily traffic was with us. There was little noise, but then the restaurant was only half full. The menu is interesting, and the staff are very professional. We chose to mix and match from the menu which worked for us. As others have said as well as the ordered dishes there are additional small plates to share which make the meal more interesting. Some were exceptional, others average, but on the whole a fantastic meal, beautifully served. Worthy of mention the lamb, cooked to perfection, and the carbonara which was an additional plate. We found the wine expensive, as others have said, a high mark up. But it is that kind of place. The candle lit dining room is reminiscent of a bygone age and quite charming. However the restrooms leave a lot to be desired, and in no way reflect the menu prices. They would be more suited to a diner!

Every Dish Was Excellent

By George C |

This was the second time we enjoyed dinner at this New York City gem. The service was great and the food was even better. Each dish was special from the appetizers, main course, and dessert. I highly recommend the Agnolotti pasta, however, my favorite was the Short Ribs.

A perfect place to celebrate a special occasion.

By Michael G |

We planned to spend the weekend in NYC to commemorate our 50th year of marriage and dine at one of the finest Italian restaurants in the country. The food was unbelievably good, the service old school and impeccable. We enjoyed the $75 per person 3 course menu and the courses were large, delicious and a fine bottle of wine. Everyone should have this experience.

Fantastic restaurant

The service was amazing and the food was really delicious. Beautiful restaurant. We had the best time. A perfect evening ❤️

Nice ambience. We had the tasting menu. Would have preferred the main menu however the waiter just gave us the tasting menu.Service was great- attention to detail.

Great Food, Great Service - Pace Yourself!

By Ted W |

We dined on Friday night and had a wonderful experience. The food, wine, and service were excellent. Tremendous attention to detail. Very nice atmosphere. Others have commented on the same things. I will add that while the portion sizes were good but not excessive, the restaurant also provides a number of nice items in between courses that are "complements of the chef." They are delicious. I dove into everything and ended the evening feeling a bit stuffed. It was my own fault. When I go back I will pace myself and eat less bread and items delivered between courses. It's also worth noting that if you order wine by the glass the price seems quite steep but they actually pour you something closer to two glasses of wine. We really enjoyed our experience and will be back.

Excellent upscale Italian restaurant

By Mark S |

An absolutely outstanding Italian restaurant. Service was excellent and every course exceeded all of our expectations. The menu is price fixe but there are plenty of options and everyone was raving about their meal. We were in the private dining room / wine cellar in the lower level, so I can't comment on the dining room ambience, but our room and service were great.

One of New Yorks Best!

I've been visiting New York for the past 10 years and looking for something special for dinner I found it..........this place serves some of the best food I've ever had coupled with a great decor Pasta is amazing! Atmosphere is great

Favorite restaurant in the city

By 628dawnmariel |

This restaurant is simply amazing. I love TriBeCa and I love this place. I have been going here for years and every visit is another dining experience. The wait staff is on cue and attentive. Your wine glass never goes dry. The food is incredible, from the pasta dishes to the main course everything is a taste of heaven. Everyone should experience this restaurant at least once, me I am there every month.

Always great!

By Anthony P |

My wife, daughter and I dined here at the end of March after a matinee. The food and service were excellent as they always are. We have eaten at some of their other restaurants, and are never disappointed. Can’t wait to return!

A Perfect Way to Celebrate an Anniversary

By norman50 |

Scalini Fedeli was an outstanding restaurant!..The service was amazing..Their team was always willing to help and made sure that the food was too our liking. An exceptional add on was that they gave us a special corn risotto and two glasses of Champagne for our anniversary. We ordered the rack of lamb and a salmon special that was outstanding. I would highly recommend Scalini Fedeli for you next celebration.

Simply the Best!

By RazorCrab |

I’ve traveled the world and this is hands down the best Italian cuisine I’ve had to date. My wife and I booked a reservation on a recent trip to NYC to celebrate her birthday. We found this place and decided to give it a try. From the moment you walk in the door you feel at home with their genuine hospitality and eagerness to delight their guests. The staff was amazing! Piero took care of our every need and provided incredible service. He is a true gentleman with a great personality. Everything from the atmosphere, ambience, service, and food were a perfect 10 out of 10 and we tasted flavors I haven’t experienced in a very long time, if ever. The restaurant is under the care and guidance of Chef Michael Cetrulo and he was in the kitchen this particular night working up these magical dishes with exquisite flavors. The kitchen brought out so many different treats compliments of the chef, all perfect in their own unique way. So much flavor! For an incredible dinner experience, you must go here while in the city. Scalini Fedeli, thank you for a wonderful night!

High End Romantic Dinner

By sandytoes724 |

This was a one star Michelin restaurant and while there were a few minor improvements that could have been made we had a delicious dinner and awesome experience at this restaurant when we went for a pre fixed dinner at a Michelin starred restaurant. From the moment we walked in we were welcomed and given a choice of seating (we went on a Thursday night) and treated like royalty. The egg yolk ravioli and sea scallops were absolutely delicious as was the pasta with a veal sauce. The pistachio creme brûlée for dessert was also outstanding!

Gorgeous

By jim p |

Stunning Restaurant with great food and service. The only short coming is the wine list which seems a little short for a place of this caliber. Having said that you will definitely find a wine you like. If you are looking for a first class Italian, give this one a look.

Fine Dinning

By Paris0813 |

We arrived about a half hour before our early reservation. They where happy to seat us right away. Only one other table was occupied. The restaurant filled quickly with all tables filled. This is a per fix menu @ $75.00. The portions tend to be large with small surprise offerings brought to the table. The pace of each course is slow. It is a dining experience! I was very pleased with the offerings "New World" and "Old World". Seat back relax and enjoy a great meal. The staff is over the top.

One of the best Italian restaurants

By Alwayz M |

Excellent food. Excellent service. Excellent Ambiance. Simple no bs menu. Lots of complimentary bites. Great wine list. Can't go wrong here people.

Amazing Italian chef Michael Cetrulo!

By Wildcatbr |

I cant find words to describe how amazing this Restaurant is. I went with my family. The food was delicious, inventive and superb. The chef is soo talented. The staff was professional and welcoming! The wine list is great! HIGHLY recommend it!

We really love this place!

By bztvls |

We have dined here many times over many years. It's our go to restaurant when we want to celebrate a special occasion and/or to treat ourselves to a great dinner. Last night was the latter. We have always found the front of the house to be spot on while the kitchen puts out some fabulous dishes. Check out their menu. I wish that their wine list, which is very Italian and high priced, would have a larger selection of wines under $100/bottle. Come on guys. Last night we had the carbonara, parparadelle with game sauce, duck and snapper milanese. All very tasty. Price and value: when you consider what you pay for a steakhouse and similar fine dining establishments Scalini Fideli is very reasonably priced and the food is great. So Go! What are you waiting for?!! !

Dinner

By RenatodiCaprio |

Absolutely great place for dinner. Food was fantastic, service amazing, wine recommendation was very good. I’m not really a fanatic of Italian food (had too much as a kid), but this place is really worth it.

Quiet spot for Business dinner!

By Eforce1962 |

As you have read the food is exquisite. From appetizer to dessert the food is delicious. The service is what you would expect as well in a superior NYC restaurant. The location is easy to get to from the subway. The decor is old world so very comfortable. Like the small lights around the interior looks nice at night. The best part is we could actually hear one another talk. Which is a plus for a NYC restaurant. Would return and recommend.

A special place

By Jintymac2016 |

I cannot rate this restaurant highly enough. The welcome, attention, service and atmosphere are discreet and special. The menu offers traditional and modern Italian food with a French influence. Starting with the amuse bouche every offering was beautifully cooked and presented with unusual combinations of flavours which made you wonder why no one had thought to combine them before. A member of our group with a serious allergy to certain ingredients was catered for discreetly and well. I would keep this restaurant for special occasions or when you feel like indulging & spooling yourself.

Fabulous wedding day meal!

By 2SiSi |

We’re so late submitting this review but we were determined to get it done given the fantastic experience we had on our wedding day last November. We booked the restaurant based on Trip Advisor reviews and we could not have had a better experience. We were made to feel so welcome and every effort was made by all the staff to make it a really special experience. Every dish we were served was perfect - delicious and beautifully presented. We were so happy with the evening and can’t wait to return to New York and definitely to Scalini Fedeli for our first anniversary in November!!!

Old World Italian Perfection!

By Mark S |

The atmosphere at Scalini Fedeli is old world from the ambiance to the beautiful decor & service. This is a restaurant where the customer comes first as the service is impeccable. From the minute we arrived through the end of our visit, it was a wonderful dining experience. It is a Prix Fixe menu but there are many dishes to choose from. All of our selections were beautifully prepared and presented and most importantly, delicious. I was also very impressed with their wine selections. We were not rushed through dinner or dessert. Scalini Fedeli is a special restaurant and we will add it to our "must return" list!

WOW, what an incredible meal......every

By travlin'cook |

WOW, what an incredible meal......every morsel was superb! We were fortunate enough to dine here last night before the second COVID shutdown. It makes me so sad that places like this are being closed when they are working so hard to play by the rules! Our table was 10-12’ away from the other tables. Mike, we can’t wait to return when our Governor and Mayor reopen the restaurants. If they had any sense they would go after the congregations and wedding venues not the restaurants! Thank you for a fabulous evening!

A Special Meal

It's nice to get dressed up, not see anyone in jeans, and sit down to an elegant meal that's void of pretentiousness. The ricotta filled purses were delicate and outstanding, the ravilolo was rich but not overpowering and my wife's arctic char was perfect. Only downside: Least expensive bottle of wine is $60 and the by the glass selection was limited and expensive.

Terrific Service

By Max D |

From the moment I arrived, I was treated like a king and my table was offered to me promptly. The glass was always full and a number of servers attended to me quite attentively. I ordered the tasting menu because this is rarely found in an Italian restaurant so I figured I give it a try. I think I would have like more pasta but the menu consisted of mostly small bites with lots of cheese so not really my thing in terms of the cheese but nonetheless quite tasty. The last course is steak which is not bad but not quite there as I had some of the best cuts of beef at Omakases and other tasting menu venues. The desserts just kept coming and I finally had to tell them to stop because I can’t eat anymore. The tasting is more than a hundred and change per person but compared to other fancy tasting places could be seen as a bargain though quality just not there but you will definitely be full. The ambiance feels somewhat claustrophobic since drapes cover the windows fully. I always wonder what it is like looking from the outside but I can’t say it’s terribly fancy. Feels a bit like an aging church and can’t say it’s four stars ambiance. I may come back next time just to get a nice bowl of hot pasta.

Stunning Gourmet Meal

By EddieOnTour |

We went here for our last night in NYC. What a great way to finish, we opted for the tasting menu and it was absolutely stunning. The sommellier was actually a charactor and gave us great advice on getting a good wine without breaking the bank. Service was so good it felt like we were treated as family. Super restaurant - worth a visit.

My husband & I celebrated our wedding anniversary here & were treated very well. Surroundings & staff were top notch. Good value fixed priced menu & great variety of selections. Would highly recommend.

Anniversary in great Italian class

By Thierry G |

This is probably the best restaurant we had in NY ever. The service level is just unreal, the chef gave us at least 3 complimentary amuse bouche at every step of the prix fix 3 course meal, also gave us complimentary desert wine. The sommelier gave us a wine tasting of no less than 3 top bottles before we chose one. To make it even more astonishing the staff noticed that I gave a birthday gift to Beth and added a Happy Birthday and a candle to the dessert plate, without me asking... (we decided to combine both celebrations because my wife was going to not be with on her Birthday 2 weeks after but we never told them).... Needless to say that food was exquisite, we both had fish and price totally reasonable for 3 a courses).... Desserta was amazing and we left a happy couple. Highly recommend.

Highly recommend this restaurant. The ambience was great for families and couples. The food is always great and the service is even better! We'll be back!

Looking forward to coming back!

Scalini Fedeli was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in ages. The service is outstanding & welcoming. The food is also fantastic. It is a great value for a pre-fixed menu and you will leave very full and happy. Great for special events or romantic date nights. We spent several hours there and did not feel rushed through the dining experience at all. I highly recommend the egg soft yolk raviolo with truffle and the lamp chops. They were extremely accommodating, proactive with service and included complimentary wine to celebrate the special occasion

Anniversary dinner.

We were treated like part of the family from the time we waked in. I've been to this restaurant before and been very happy and once again was not disappointed. They ambience and romantic setting make this a wonderful restaurant for an intimate dinner.

Wonderfaul Food and Service

By ahlubitz |

From the moment you enter the restaurant, you are treated as a special person. The service is impeccable and every morsel of food is divine. The flavors of the sausage and herbs in the pasta bolognaise explode in your mouth: we have never tasted better in any restaurant. The chef adds free unique treats throughout the meal that equal the quality of the rest of the meal. We are surprised that this restaurant lost its Michelin rating a decade ago and never regained it.

This truly is authentic Italian wow!

By Roadie802 |

This place is amazing. The three course meal started with a sausage and penne with roasted peppers, however the sauce was very different and the pasta had a unique but very nice texture. Entree were Scallops cooked perfectly, closing out the meal with a homemade lemon sorbet. Service was good but a bit slow, although perhaps due to our eating so late in the evening. this is a great place for couples or business meetings, but bring your $$ as it is pricey but relative to quality was spot on.

Romantic, and not expensive for the quality

By GM20142014 |

Had our anniversary dinner there on a Friday night. I find the $75 prix fixe dinner an excellent value choice, the distance between tables is good, the noise level allows for quiet conversations. The individual plates are well proportioned, not too big, but I could not have eaten anything else when I finished. It has a good wine list , the service is attentive and unobtrusive . I will have to go back because there were a lot of tempting entrees I want to try.

The Ultimate in Dining experience!

By champlain20 |

Friends and I went to this fantastic place for a Birthday dinner. Warm welcome/reception.The restaurant is very well decorated and has a luxurious appeal to sight, sound and eventually to taste. Excellent menu and prix fixed with a tremendous wine selection to choose from. The presentation of the various plates will make anyone salivate. The taste of every course was incredible and with each bite...memorable. It is somewhat $$$$ but very well worth the price and the experience. I highly recommend Scalini Fedeli to each and everyone of you...you will not regret it. Truly Memorable.

Faultless and delicious food

Our favourite Italian in New York. A really special evening awaits you. Tremendous honest food, great service and great atmosphere. We try to make sure we squeeze in a visit whenever we are in New York. Truly memorable.

This restaurant is a "shadow" of it's former self.

By nancyqc |

This restaurant is a "shadow" of it's former self. The "death rattle" of the place is palpable. While the service was very good, the food was terrible. The duck leg was "mush" with sauce sloshed over it to cover the taste. The duck breast was gristle. The lamb was OK, sauce mundane. Worse of all, the experience was extremely expensive. The wine was excellent, but for the price, that was the expectation. Sorry to have to write this, but our visit was exrtemely disappointing. We wish this restaurant well, but we will not return.

Fabulous!

By Nick |

I visited this restaurant with my friend and we had an amazing time. The food was incredible and the service was fantastic. The sommelier gave us a great recommendation for wine too. We loved it.

Worth a visit

By Roy D |

This is a gorgeous space: beautiful Romanesque arches that fosters a very private feeling to our table but I believe for other tables as well. Service is attentive and excellent. We did the prix fixe menu and enjoyed every course (the parppadelle with veal bolognese is killer). A knock because the bread presented before the amuse bouche was uninteresting and perhaps even a touch stale. Overall, an enjoyable experience but not a restaurant on my must do again list. After all, this is Manhattan.

One of the finest Italian restaurants I have ever been to. Service was superb, decor is elegant, and food was outstanding. Expensive, but well worth it.

Amazing evening

Upon entering the restaurant and meeting Emad until we left with large food bellies, the entire evening was exceptional in every way. Service, food, presentation and flavours were amazing.

Simply Wonderful

By J H |

My wife and I were here for our anniversary. Although they made this a special dinner for us, I could see that every wonderful aspect of the evening was just the way they do things. The space has a classic look which immediately lets you transition to he dining experience from the city outside. It sets the atmosphere, without being a distraction. Service is amazingly attentive without ever being intrusive. Food is served with grace. All of this would be enough, but then there is the food itself. Does delicious seem insufficient? In any case, for us, from first to last, it was a wonderful evening.

My favorite restaurant!

By Kstanmark |

I don’t know how many times I have been here. 20? 25? I’ve been going 1-2 times a year for 12-15 years. The food is excellent; great wine list, and lovely decor. The service is really excellent, and they remember you if you are a repeat customer. I’ll be honest, there are a lot of excellent Italian restaurants in NYC with great food, decor, and service, but what makes Scalini Fedeli unique is the atmosphere. You can actually hear the people you are dining with and have a conversation without raising your voice or leaning toward someone. SF achieves this by not overpacking the restaurant like pretty much every other NYC restaurant. Meals are so much more enjoyable when you don’t have to listen to every detail of a neighboring table’s conversation.

Great Special Occasion Italian Restaurant!

By phillip l |

First time dining here,$75 pre fixe menu for three courses offer a huge variety of quality food choices!Large portions, and chefs many amuse bouches make this menu more than enough food!Standouts included any pasta, seafood, and veal dishes!Professional service and space between tables are a plus!Negatives are very few wines under $100 and higher noise level than expected in crowded main dining room!Lovely experience overall!

Scalini Fideli on Duane Street

By Michael |

As to cuisine, there are more Italian restaurants in New York City - than any other type. So it is a testimony to Scalini Fideli that it ranks pretty much at the top of that huge list. The site itself is interesting: a homeym unpretentious setting in the West Village, reminiscent of some of the more casual restaurants in Venice or Florence. My wife and I cose a table off in a corner, that amounted to "private dining." Delicious "amuse-bouches" were served even before we ordered anything: two different ones actually. And those were just two of four or five additional amuse-bouches offered throughout the meal. The appetizers were outstanding both as to quality and quantity. We knew we weren't going to go home hungry. Then came the entrees. My wife had a fish dish: artic char. I chose filet mignon - expecting the usual tiny portion one gets in the "uptown" posh restaurants like Daniel's or Gabriel Kreuther: a little snippet about 3 inches long and 3/8" thick. Not here. Scalini's filet mignon was like what the NFL players get at Gallagher's or Smith & Wollensky's: huge! (and deliciously medium-rare). I could only get through half, so I asked for a doggie-bag for the rest - which was my breakfast the next morning. Then there were more amuse-bouches. The wine-list was outstanding. We ordered a delicious Barbaresco from the Piedmont region. On to dessert! The waiter then poured us some champagne, which he said was for our anniversary. I don't think that date is in Google, so it's a puzzle where he got that idea. It so happened that the day we went there was exactly 28 days from my birthday and 28 days to our December anniversary. Piece of advice: if you're going to Scalini Fideli for dinner, don't eat lunch! That way, you'll have room for all the delicacies you'll be given, besides the ones you order. It goes without saying that the service was prompt and excellent. Altogether, a memorable experience.

A real GEM!!

Old fashioned service. Old/Modern Italian restaurant in Tribeca

By NJDad_Neal |

Truly impeccable service. Warm greeting. Classy room. Interesting menu with both classic and modern dishes. An amuse bouche course that was complimentary and tasty with mushroom and truffle oil ravioli. Nice salad course. The entrees were sea bass, a very good baked cod and a pasta with bolognese. Each said their entree was wonderful. A complimentary pasta was brought to the table. Wines by the bottle were impressive, but wines by the glass less so. Coffee, both espresso and americano were both very good. Not inexpensive, but for a classy, quiet business dinner, it was exactly what was needed. Recommended.

Romantic Italian Fine Dining in Tribeca

By PopeyeD |

Booked a 7pm reservation on a Friday evening for our 1st visit to Scalini Fedeli. It lived up to its expectation & can see why it’s in the top of Zagat’s list for best Italian in NYC. Service was excellent but not “stuffy”. Wide range menu for a prix fixe. Three course meal for $75 pp. We left stuffed. Many extras brought out “compliments of the chef”. Food & presentation were also both excellent. There are thousands of restaurants to choose from in NYC. I’d recommend Scalini Fedeli for a nice romantic evening & a great Italian meal. 1 minute walk from the 2/3 train at Chambers Street station.

Fantastic food

We were recommended by friends who come often to this place, they were riight on, we enjoyed all that we ordered and they sent an extra course out, maybe because of our wine choice , either way its special place for great Italian dinning!!

Italian Classic Ristorante

By 920billc |

Scalini Fedeli in the TriBeCa area is an exceptional Italian restaurant. It is old school charm in a warm and inviting candlelit dining room. The service is impeccable and the food is delicious. It is a three course prix fixe menu, but the selections are diverse, divided between traditional & contemporary. Our waiter had some excellent recommendations and you can mix and match from both sides of the menu. Our dinner was highlighted by several extra chef specials compliments of the house. It was a perfect evening.

Amazing Night Out

Absolutely amazing dinner! We chose this place based on the TripAdvisor reviews and we were so glad we did! The restaurant has an old world feel. The service was impeccable, the wine was delicious, but the food…! It was amazing! Everything we ate was delicious. You will not leave hungry or disappointed.

A Special Place

By Tink2014123 |

This is not the first time I've been to this restaurant but it is always special. I am still a little anxious going into indoor restaurants due to COVID and the Maitre-D was especially accommodating and put us at a table where we were not too close to others. And he checked on us to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying our evening! The restaurant is very elegant, the service is great as is the food. I have had truffle appetizers repeatedly when I've dined here and they never disappoint. We will definitely return soon.

Wonderful romantic experience!

By Tomer_where_to_next |

My husband and I went there for our one year anniversary. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was extremely romantic and magical. It felt like we're at a different place and time than NYC. The chef kept sending us complimentaries from the kitchen throughout the entire meal!! I've never experienced anything like that. They just kept on coming in addition to our regular meal. And they were superb! The service was extremely nice. When we asked for a picture together - the waiter tried different angles and made sure we're happy with it. It didn't need to do that and that gave our visit there a warm and personal touch to it. I would definitely go back there.

Good Italian, great sommelier

By takenscreenname |

be prepared to spend some time here. Service is not fast and we had a 2.5 hour meal and left before dessert b/c we had previous scheduled engagement. The food is very good. The service is attentive. We really enjoyed the sommelier who helped us quite a bit with wine selection and even let us taste several wines because we didn't know the varietals on the menu (they were Italian). I would certainly go back. It's expensive, but so is everything in NYC

Great staff, wonderful food. The place to celebrate.

By Neil R |

Having researched a vast number of restaurants in New York to celebrate a wedding anniversary we finally decided on this gem. Some of the menus were over fussy and inaccessible - this restaurant offered an excellent menu with clear descriptions. From the greeting on arrival to our departure the warmth of the experience could not have been better. What a great fixed price menus! The appetisers were fresh and very tasty. At all points of our dinner the staff were polite, friendly, professional and not over bearing. The quality of the food and 5he presentation were exceptional with hidden taste surprises gently coming through. This is certainly a restaurant where the food matches the menu to perfection. We only have one regret and that is that we only ate there once - when next in New York we will return. We cannot recommend Scalini Fedeli highly enough. A true taste of Italy in NYC.

If you are looking to celebrate something special there is no better choice. The food the service the entire meal is perfection.

excellent menu and kitchen

By JoeV |

The kitchen was right on point the night we dined there. The execution of the food was really very good. The service team seemed stressed and not working smoothly and seamlessly, e.g. entrees down before the table was marked again with flatware. I would return though. Great ambience.

Drop 250 bucks= NO

By Anne Marie P |

I'm not high maintenance. And I'll drop good money on an excellent cuisine experience in a heartbeat. Because those moments are rare. While our waiter was kind and attentive...occasionally...his support staff clearly showed forced effort and a disdain for humanity in general. It was quite shocking this place rated so high. Makes me wonder about the integrity of reviews on certain sites (not this one...I trust TripAdvisor the most...). Do you know how Americans THINK high-end authentic Italian food should be...and how far off the mark that notion truly is? Well this place delivers to the American who thinks they know what high-end Euro cuisine should be. Fancy plated, seasoned to the ceiling so you don't know what flavor is what, and served by snobby staff who frankly thinks they work for Emporer Caesar himself. It just doesn't happen this way in Rome or Sorrento or Naples. Nope. I will spare the petty details about this dish and that. Doesn't matter in my book. There are great places worth shelling out hundreds. I'm so sorry to say this isn't one of them. The foodie already will know this. And the average person looking for a true experience will leave 250 bucks on the table and leave saying: for what? Management is kind, but this place needs to back off the overjealous chefs and their seasoning mish mash - and perhaps train some support staff to actually be warm and kind and AVAILABLE to monied patrons. I'm being gracious and kind here. Truly. Feeling remarkably jipped. And there's not much I can do about it now...except share with you.

Outstanding cuisine, excellent service, quiet dining

By I M |

My husband and I had dinner at Scalini Fedeli last night and our meal was exceptional. As native New Yorkers we have dined in some of the best restaurants in the city and Scalini Fedeli ranks right up there with the finest. While most restaurants, even some of the best, have very noisy dining rooms with a din so loud it is hard to talk, Scalini Fedeli provides a quiet, romantic dining experience. I wish more restaurants provided this type of atmosphere. The dining room was attractive with high ceilings stained glass windows. The one negative about the dining room were the chairs, which were, unfortunately, hard and uncomfortable. We had the prix fixe menu which consisted of an appetizer/pasta, a main course and dessert. To be noted- the meal began with an amuse bouche - a single ravioli in a scrumptious black truffle cream sauce. This was a surprising plus. I could have licked the plate clean of the sauce! I had as a first course, capellini pasta with asparagus, pickled leeks (which had a bit too much vinegar for my taste) small cherry tomatoes in an excellent light sauce. This was delicious. Must husband had a pasta dish with truffle sauce- fabulous. For the main dish, I had shrimp over risotto and my husband had the veal chop. Both dishes were outstanding. The main dish was followed by a coconut sorbet with pineapple pieces and a granola crunch. This was absolutely delicious and a perfect follow-up to the main course. My dessert was a flourless chocolate cake with sour cherry sauce and dollops of cream. WOW. I really loved the tart cherries which complemented the bittersweet flavor of the chocolate cake. It was moist and delicious. My husband had the three flavors of gelati. Again- very good. The service was attentive but not overbearing. All in all a wonderful evening not to be missed. We will return!! I highly recommend this restaurant for an outstanding northern Italian dinner.

Amazing

By Rabs22 |

This restaurant has an old school Italian feel with both traditional and modern dishes. Service was spot on and the wine list had great Pinots and traditional Italian wines. I also felt they kept bringing us our complimentary dishes. The price was also fair. I can't wait to go back.

Scalini Fedeli Does Not Disappoint

By Dieter K |

I had not eaten at Scalini Fedeli for some time and I am happy to report that the experience was as pleasant as the last time a couple of years ago. This is an upscale Italian restaurant with a French flair, which serves excellent food in a civilized and festive atmosphere. The tables leave you some privacy, the service is excellent and the food very good. The sound level is subdued, which is rare in NYC. I had a delicious chicken liver appetizer, duck breast and duck confit and a napoleon for dessert. Everything was excellent. Scalini Fedeli is one of the best places in Tribeca to have a great dinner

A Word of Advice......

By Andrew J |

Everything about Scalini Fedeli is perfect as you can tell given the universally stellar reviews. SF is better visited, I would suggest, in the Fall and Winter and Spring only because the cooler weather is better to stimulate the appetite. I have been in the Summer and while I love it all four seasons, my recent visit there reminds me of the seasonal difference both in the menu and my capacity to eat a lot of spectacular food. But that's just me, so disregard that observation freely. Ok, so my advice -- I confess that I loathe restaurants that bring the precious little "freebies" in between courses. I rarely find them of much value, unless one's idea of value is that they are make believe "free." At Scalini Fedeli the "free" in betweens are DELICIOUS and SUBSTANTIAL. I could easily have made a meal of the ravioli and the bucatini dishes that we received, and the portions were hardly "precious". So, here is my advice - stay away from the "fantastic" bread!! Sacrilegious, I know. Whatever you order will be paired with many more delicacies that will....yes....do quite nicely in filling you up. I wish I knew that beforehand as I would have left SF feeling slightly less overdone.....when I go back, and I will, soon, I will moderate the unnecessary carbs in favor of the necessary carbs...

Loved this place!

By Eitan M |

Loved this place! Great way to end a day in New York! We went for Christmas Eve, and were pleasantly surprised. The decor was mellow and warm. There were four courses: the Appetizers, Entrees, Sorbet, and Dessert. The appetizers were great! Especially loved the Egg Yolk Raviolo and the Spaghetti Arabiatta. The only problem that we had was the lack of water. We were a party of six, and once we ran out of water we had to ask for more many times. Overall the experience was a great one! Will definitely come back sometime soon!

A Romantic Restaurant. You swear you were in Rome!

By Peter M |

Scalini Fedeli is a hidden treasure. A bit hard to find the door and when you walk in you feel as if you are in the entrance to a little European hotel. Once escorted into the main dinning room time takes you backwards to world gone by. The simple décor is highlighted by the wonderful arched ceiling done in Venetian plaster that reflects the soft lights and glowing candles. The starched linen tablecloths and tall taper candles makes for an intimate romantic setting. And now the best part: The food! The restaurant features two fix price menus: three plus courses. The menu is divided into two categories: The traditional and the more modern Italian cuisine. You can mix and attach. With a party of four we tried 8 different offerings. All of them were excellent. It's hard to say which one was the best. The pastas were done perfectly andante and entries, WOW. The Duckling with pear purée was one the best I've ever had, cooked medium rare and covered in the most delicious sauce. Deserts were also a culinary treat and irresistible . Lower level had a private wine cellar that hosted a private dining room for small groups. Pros: unique and fine dining at it's best in a really lovely environment. Cons: Cocktails at the table, no bar. Pricey, but worth it.

Amazing!! Wish I Could Rate Six Stars!

By Mark_RHouston_TX |

This place is fabulous. The ambiance is old world with linen tablecloths, yet not stuffy. On a Saturday night, it was hopping, yet it still easy to have a conversation. The service was attentive without being obsequious. But none of that matters ... it is all about the food. OMG. As soon as one sits, a small square of warm ciabatta bathed in an onion / garlic / olive oil sauté whets the appetite. The menu is prix fixe. $75 for 3 course, $115 for an 8 course tasting menu. We had the 3 course option. One chooses an starter/appetizer and an entree, both categorized by "traditional" and "new innovative" options. Desert is ordered later. After ordering, we were presented with an amuche bouche: a raviolo with a truffle oil foam. Simply sublime. For starters, my wife had a porcini / truffle oil risotto topped with crunchy deep fried zucchini sticks. The risotto was perfectly executed and the zucchini was a clever texture contrast to the traditional dish. I had a fusilli with Calabrian peppers, sausage and escarole with some garlic bread crumbs on the side for crunch. The pasta blew me a away ... if you love spice, this creative dish is a MUST have. My wife's entree was a snapper Milanese. We live on the Gulf Coast, so we know great snapper. She declared that this was the best snapper she'd ever eaten. Wow! I had the rack of lamb which was quite good, if not quite as imaginative as the other dishes. For desert, we had a simple blood orange sorbet, although richer options were available, we just didn't have the room. Yum! Do bring your Platinum card, though. Dinner for two with a couple of glasses of wine each topped out at $375 (including tip). Worth every penny, for sure. I can't imagine visiting NYC in the future without revisiting this gem.

Delightful Decadent Dinner

By lizd3 |

Service was incredible from start to finish. From the greeting coming in to the gathering of coats. It is only a price fixed menu so make sure you realize that is your only option when having dinner. The dishes are all very rich but the flavors are all balanced. I had the pappardelle and it was beyond delicious. I also had the veal scallopini. It was a heavier sauce but I also enjoyed it. The flourless chocolate cake dessert was incredible. The others had the Bolognese followed by the pork chop dinner. They all loved it. The prices are high but totally worth it.

A Gem in Lower Manhattan

By Mr. Perfectionist |

I had been cooped up in a conference room for 12 hours and was looking to escape and have a great dinner. Everyone else at the meeting opted for convenience. There were a few decent restaurants near the law office but when in New York, I always look for something special. I found out that Scalini Fedeli was open and was only about a 15 minute walk from where we were so I booked a reservation and made my way over to the restaurant. It was late on a Monday night and was almost empty which gave me pause but since Trip Advisor is right 95% of the time, I decided to stay and give it a shot. I was very glad I did. The food was fantastic, the service impeccable and the ricotta cheesecake the best I have ever eaten anywhere in the World, including Italy and Boston. I wish Scalini Fedeli was located in Chicago and not Lower Manhattan.

Great food, great service

By Tunaidi |

Scalini Fedeli is a great Italian restaurant. The venue itself doesn't look like much, but the food and service is top notched. The menu rotates seasonally. There's a pre fixe option (3 courses), and a regional tasting option (7 courses). I went for the regional tasting and was impressed. There are also small accompaniments in between courses at times, and I left super, super full. A few dishes were just average, but the greatness of other dishes pushed up the level of the overall package. The arctic char is amazing, and the non-ravioli pastas were a little better. Dessert was great as well.

We loved this dinner! The restaurant had ambiance, and the food was delicious. We had the three course dinners. I enjoyed the 4 mushroom risotto, and loin cut veal, plus dessert. My husband really enjoyed the pappardella with veal shank and the fillet of sole. We would definitely go back on our next trip.

Best NYC Italian

By John S |

We have eaten in almost all the city's high end italian restaurants, this was probably the best of the top tier places, service was great and food was spot on, the attention to detail from kitchen was what separated it from other places, Marea may be as good , but here when we waited for our table they gave us a glass of prosecco after a couple of minutes, at marea they just sat us with no apology

Incredible food and superior service

By Chris S |

The ambiance is discrete and candle-lighted with scalloped ceiling. It’s so perfect for couples. There’s ample room at the tables so it’s not too crowded. We had the prix fixe. Wine list is expensive but delicious I had the pasta carbonara with the pasta just so amazing al dente and I had the diver sea scallops that were so perfectly done. The chef brought some amuse bouche which were perfect. But let’s just say I can’t wait to go back. The Maitre D was wonderful at setting us up for success and the sommelier and waiter were beyond professional. This was high class extra special dinner. Thank you!

Worth a try, expected a little more based on setting and Michelin rating

By SwissTraveler1977 |

Positives: - walked in, very polite host (who also seems to be the manager), got a nice table right away even without reservation - Beautiful setting in the heart of NYC - The quality of the veal in my Secondi/main was outstanding. The marsala sauce that came with it was not too strong and importantly light without cream (and probably not too much/if any butter). So overall very good. Something really special, no. - Delicious pineapple sorbet as a "pre-dessert" - The banana crust desert was out of this world Opportunities: - I know it is NYC and a highly rated restaurant but $25 for a glass of wine of a $17 bottle that is a little extreme...And my glass of red wine actually was served with a a little bit of wine dripping from the base of the glass...thankfully I noticed it before it dropped on my shirt. - The food comes VERY fast, the service doesn't follow. It took me a while to order a cocktail and I ate my Primi still with a Manhattan as no one checked on me for wine with the food. - I ordered the freshly shaved black truffles (as an extra) on my Primi after asking if these were fresh Italian Truffles. I was told they are. The dish came with grated (not shaved) truffles that were okay but not what I expected. The dish was good but not anything really special - In the middle of my Secondi/main the waiter came not to ask me how the food came out and if everything was good but to tell me Bon Appetite... is there food that great that you won't even ask?

Immediately saw a ratings disconnect when I walked into an empty restaurant.

By Stanislaus St. Marks |

Extremely gracious and attentive, but each course was a huge disappointment. Overcooked hamachi had the taste and texture of tofu, snapper smothered in hot/vinegary peppers that overwhelmed the fish, and, someone needs to explain to the pastry chef exactly what a tart is. We were surprised with a couple of complimentary appetizers that were somewhat better prepared than our selections. Empty when we arrived, empty when we departed 3 hrs later. They do try, very pleasant and accommodating, but, regrettably, far removed from the Italian foods of my heritage.

Old World Italian Spectacular

By charles r |

Scalini Fedeli, and old world plush Italian eatery, has been a fixture on Duane Street since way before Duane Street was au courant. The food is remarkable and keeps on coming, the staff is old world professional, the quiet ambiance great for a date or a meeting. Spectacular wine list, beautiful room, great food. Highly recommended.

Delicious food and an old world ambience. The staff is very helpful without being intrusive. A little oversauced though. Very expensive for what you get.

Great Place to Visit

By joe73634 |

Went with family whilst visiting friends. Excellent service and food was brilliant. Staff catered for all our needs as we had two children and nothing was a problem. Children loved the place and we had nothing bad to say about it. Would have revisited before we left but couldn't find the time, next time definitely.

Amazing Experience

By Rob W |

I was tasked with booking for a group dinner of my colleagues and stumbled upon this restaurant. The meal was amazing. The food is unique and really delicious. They have an incredible wine list and the service was impeccable. I travel all other the world and this was in my top five meals. Will definitely go again given the opportunity.

Outstanding Old World Approach

Everything about our experience was perfect. The ambiance of the dining room, the service and of course the food. Five stars for all aspects, You need to be hungry, three course prix fixe meal is quite a lot of food. That said the food is truly special.

Service 1st, Food atmosphere.

You won't be disappointed the service is excellent and food is great. The atmosphere is warm an intimate.

Classic Italian in all the Best Ways

Every aspect of our meal was great - from the service to the selection of traditional and modern Italian dishes. The staff was attentive and helpful. The atmosphere is warm and energetic without being too loud. Reminded us of some of our favorite restaurants in Rome.

My favorite restaurant in NYC!

By Linda A |

Scalini Fedeli has it all - warm, welcoming service, lush incredibly delicious food and beautiful, romantic setting. The prix fixe meal is reasonable for the quality of the cuisine and the format encourages me to try something new each time. The menu seduces with its descriptions of the food so it is difficult to decide which dishes to choose. And each is better than the last. Be sure to try one of their wonderful pastas, and they prepare meat and fish equally well. The waiters are dressed in tuxedos so it may seem formal at first glance but each waiter treats you like a welcome guest, with warmth, interest and knowledge of the food and wine. Do not miss this wonderful restaurant when you really want to give yourself a treat!

Lively, beautiful and delicious - great for a special occasion

By Amy G |

We've been here a few times and they never disappoint at Scalini Fedeli. The menu changes every few months so there's always something new to try. They have choices for non fish eaters like me as well as non meat eaters. The food is always delicious and creative, and the service is impeccable - they really take care of you. You’ll receive an amuse bouche as well as a sorbet course in addition to your appetizer, entree and dessert - all for $75 per person! A steal in Manhattan with this level of food and large number of choices on the menu. It was our anniversary and the chef wrote 'Happy Anniversary' in chocolate on our dessert plates! This is a wonderful place for a special occasion with friends or just a couple celebrating. This restaurant is not appropriate for young children on a weekend night - don’t do it if you don’t want lots of dirty looks and very unhappy children. The decor, lighting and ceilings make it very romantic, but It's quite lively on the weekends (if you're looking for quietly romantic, this isn't it). For out of towners, this restaurant is in a safe neighborhood in Tribeca. It’s not an area where you can just walk out the door and hail a cab, but they will be happy to arrange a cab for you. Just for reference, it is about a 10 minute walk north from Freedom Tower at the World Trade Center Memorial which acts like a beacon while finding your way if you’re staying in that area (we stayed at the Conrad and it was an easy walk back to the hotel). They do have a very small bar room if you arrive early for your reservation. Try to make reservations as early as possible, but I don't think they take them more than 6 weeks in advance. While they don’t have a dress code per se, most people were business casual dressers with a few chic divas thrown in - hey, this is Manhattan.

The restaurant is located in a beautiful vault. The tableware is classically beautiful and the service friendly and nimble. The food was consistently good to very good. The desserts in particular were wonderful. The value for money for fine dining in New York is good. For our special occasion we got a delicious house wine on the house - thanks for that.

A Total Disappointment

By 12345rover |

We ate here last night with another couple at what should be prime time and prime service. It was not and the food was quite disappointing. We began the evening on a very upbeat note. We were very pleased with the wine list and ordered an excellent Brunello. Then we each ordered the three-course price fixed menu. The first course for three of us was a pasta. The raviolis were floating in oil. What should've been a delicate and lightly made Primi course was anything but. Although it was tasty, it left you feeling like you were had just swallowed deep-fried pasta. I next ordered the beef and asked for it to be medium rare. It came medium well if not well done. The other meals were more passable but nothing special. The real disappointment for the evening was the service. While typically in a restaurant like this you feel somewhat overwhelmed with attention this was just the opposite. We sat with our used plate in front of us for 20 minutes. We had to retrieve our own wine at one point. I think they must have had some staff problem even though there seemed to be more than enough folks floating around. Although the surroundings in the restaurant pretty in the atmosphere pleasant I simply do not think it should read as one of New York's finest.

Perfect!

Fixed Price menu with excellent options. Appetizers and entrees were perfect! Service outstanding! 5 stars!

Been many years since we’ve been here and it’s still great on all counts , get the soft egg ravioli , it’s served with black truffles , elegant decor with a high church style cieling , you feel like your in Europe

Unexpected Surprise!

By west8009 |

My wife and I had never eaten at Scalini Fedeli before and we weren't quite sure what to expect. We love Italian food and there are so many restaurants that advertise themselves to be "authentic Italian" and turn out to be anything but. So it was with a little bit of hesitancy that we tried Scalini Fedeli. Our fears were put to rest the minute we walked in the door. We were warmly greeted by the maitre d' and immediately shown to our table. We had requested side by side banquette seating and they had our table waiting on us as requested. The room is gorgeous and warm and reminds you of an Italian villa. Our waiter quickly appeared and I must say he was so cordial and nice to us it was as if we were long time patrons rather than first time diners. He quickly returned with our cocktail order and then proceeded to go over the menu as well as items that were not listed on the menu. I started with fried calamari; it was perfect and not greasy at all. My wife had the burrata appetizer and it was excellent. For entrees, I had veal and my wife had ravioli. Both were outstanding. Scalini Fedeli is a very good restaurant: great ambiance, great food, and great service. I don't think that you'll be disappointed in it if you give it a try. The only question that I have is why did it take us so long to try it!!

BEAUTIFUL DINING ROOM

By catrina717 |

Scalini Fedeli is a little off the beaten path - when we first arrived we waited for our table in a little sitting room - there was a bartender who was taking drink orders while we waited for our table - it soon got very crowded and a lot of people were standing, but they managed to seat everyone promptly - we were escorted to a nice corner table BUT it was a table for 8 and we were only 5 people - so be sure to request a smaller table if you are only 5 people - we did the tasting menu which was wonderful - however the first 2 courses we did not get our wine with our food - we always had to wait for the wine - we were doing our own wine pairing since they did not offer wine tasting option - the wine mark up is 400 percent - ouch!!! However, the service was GREAT and the food was GREAT - if you go here you will not be disappointed!!

Italian!?

By aykut57 |

If you have experience about good Italian restaurants in Italy it coudn't be your cup of tea.I didn't like the foods and wine prices were extremly expensive.Only Italian wines .The ambiance is not attractive, waitors are so traditional.I prefer Marea if I have to choose an Italian restaurant in New York.

Utterly Perfect

By ISLANDATTORNEY |

We took some friends to dinner here last night and from beginning to end, the evening was perfect. Well, perhaps not from “beginning”because we were stuck in NY traffic for a shocking time and so arrived very late for our reservation. I was dreading the reaction of the restaurant but they welcomed us warmly without a hint of reproach. The table was lovely. The waiters were charming. And the food was really to die for. There were so many fabulous choices on the prix fix menu, our vegetarian friend was completely happy, as was my carnivore husband. Several preparations of scampi drew raves. The veal chop drew purring. And not one but many amuse bouchées from the chef throughout the meal. Excellent Italian wine list — though quite expensive I would say. But we loved the Sicilian White the waiter helped us select. And the desert! Don’t miss these delicious sweets at the end of the meal, even if you are full. Such a perfect choice for a lingering meal with friends.

A++ with amuse bouche

By mc53185 |

This old school Italian restaurant features impeccable service, delightful pasta dishes, and a bevy of complimentary amuse bouche. Yes, the dinner cost more than my first apartment's monthly rent, but for a special occasion it was well worth it.

Disappointed

By Paul L |

I was looking forward to dinner at this restaurant after reading so many good reviews. It started off well enough. We all ordered the 3 course meal the 1st course was delicious. We ordered an extra 1st course to split. The soft egg yolk ravioli which was also delicious. The main course was a disappointment. Medium rare rack of lamb that came in medium and medium well. One in our party ordered the pork chop which, to be fair, was very good. As there are so many choices in a city like New York I do not think I need to give this restaurant another go.

Birthday celebration

By Mark R |

We were in NYC for my wife’s birthday in December and had the most wonderful evening at Scalini, service was impeccable as was the choice of wine and food, and the bonus was having good conversation with a lady and daughter at the next table. If in New York book a table you will not be disappointed

Best Hidden Gem!

By Feetprints |

Had the 7 course tasting and it was phenomenal. PROS: -the food tasted like a very seasoned chef created these plates, best food I’ve tasted in NY. - very friendly staff - beautiful ambience CONS: - Could use a more noticeable sign for the restaurant - needs some signs pointing to restrooms. Overall, I have to say we will be visiting again!

A true gem in TriBeCa...

By dawng240 |

Had one of the best meals I’ve had in quite a long time. This restaurant offers the full experience from beginning to end - something long forgotten. Service was impeccable incredibly attentive, and knowledgeable. Atmosphere was warm, intimate, inviting and tasteful. Food was superb and the chef’s amuse bouche offerings were as delectable as the entrees. It earns its Michelin rating and then some!

Magnificent

By Ian G |

From the moment we walked into the restaurant until we left the food and service was perfect. This was the best Italian meal I have eaten. We just came back recently from Rome and Southern Italy where we ate in many restaurants. This restaurant surpassed them all!

Out of the Way is Part of the Charm

By Marc D |

This “old world” style Tuscan Italian restaurant with is located downtown in a perpetually reinventing portion of Tribeca between Hudson Street and the Hudson River. Across from small triangular Duane Park, this restaurant inhabits a NYC niche that transports one to nearly any era one chooses after dark: the charm in the air is palpable to anyone with a sense of imagination and adventure. In a space that has long been home to top-flight restaurants, S-F keeps the tradition going with a first-rate and amiable staff, fine Wine List, interesting and broad-based menu with selections available on an a la carte or prix fixe basis, and decor that is warm, European, dimmed and inviting to romance - though friendly gatherings, family meals and business dinners also fit in quite well. The food is excellently prepared to taste in portions just right to leave one full, but not stuffed, at the end of the meal. It is not an inexpensive restaurant but the value is there. Casual attire or better will work, but many feel it is just the type of place you feel like dressing up a bit for. One can easily imagine one’s self in a movie of one’s own design while at table in S-F: it is fun to dine there. It’s worth the trip for that alone, though there’s much, much more.

Superb Dining

I've tried so many restaurants in NY over he years and Scalini's is up there with the best, I was there with two friends and we all agreed that this was the best Italian food we have ever had in NY over he years. Choice of food was excellent along with a really great wine choice, chefs entrees in between courses were also fantastic. I'm back in NY in a few weeks with my family and I've already booked to come back, I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Food, service and wine top notch

Fantastic

A quaint romantic restaurant with a excellent food. They bring you things to eat in between courses. Staff is great. Everything we ate was delicious. Great for couples and special occasions. Will definitely be back.

Really enjoyed our dinner! Great Italian

By n2r49rs |

Really nice ambiance...authentic, warm and upscale. Service was super friendly, helpful and professional. Really enjoyed talking with him. The service enhanced our experience. We started with a beet salad and the short rib and bone marrow agnolotti. Both were excellent!! For mains we couldn’t turn down another pasta dish so we ordered the duck and foie gras ravioli plus the snapper. Again both were excellent. The pastas were so flavorful! We will definitely return!

Truly Exceptional

By Dave J |

Amazing Italian food and superb service. Tonight was a price fix menu which is fine. they first brought three two-bite very flavorful appetizers: salmon crostini, shrimp in mustard sauce, zucchini in a tomato sauce all of which were incredibly tasty. The ravioli appetizer was, hands down, the best ravioli I've ever had, and the salmon in mushroom sauce was world class. Really enjoyed Scalini Fedini and will most definitely return on my next trip to New York

Excellent restaurant!!

My husband and I ate here for an anniversary dinner. The restaurant was so beautiful and quiet. The food was delicious. Everything we ate was incredible. The service was outstanding. It was expensive but totally worth it! Can't wait to go here again.

Wonderful meal

By David H |

First, the restaurant is beautiful with all of the candles. Dinner was amazing with so many interesting choices for both the first and second courses. My wife had the Agnolotti (so good) following by the pork chop with arugula and beet salad on top (also very good). I eat out often and have never seen pasta with octopus and anchovy sauce. I asked the waiter if it was strong and he assured me it wasn't. Good call, one of the best and most unique pasta dishes I've had. It was followed with the veal chop which is incredible. The meal was followed by sorbet and dessert. Both included. In summary the restaurant is fine dining at its best, but the price wasn't that bad and for the amount and quality of the food, a great value. We'll definitely be back.

another wonderful dinner

We've been to Scalini Fidelli several times and they never disappoint. The service is excellent, the room is lovely and the food is wonderful. One of our very favorite restaurants.

Not been for a while - food still great

By thefrequenttraveller |

First time for quite a few years. I had booked weeks before, and felt a little squeezed in between two other parties so not exactly off to a great start. We ordered a bottle of Amerone and it was presented perfectly and tasted very good. The food is ordered via a special set menu style - with choices in each course. I had the veal for my main course which was very good. Overall the food was great, but in the end it fell short of a 5 star at this price level. I felt too hemmed in and it was not possible to have a romantic meal for two when every word you say is heard by two couples - one on each side. So to me - this has lost some of the charm it had on previous occasions. Perhaps I just got an unlucky table, but given I had booked quite far ahead - it should have been better than this.

Perhaps the best restaurant I’ve been to in years!!

By ObeJuan |

This is one of those restaurants that put it all together! Great ambiance, impeccable service and absolutely beautiful food!! Will go back every time I’m back in NY! I could go on and on.... but suffice it to say that this restaurant will never be forgotten by those that get the pleasure to dine here! And yes... do wear shoes.... and dress up a little.... it will only ADD to your experience!!

What a great find!!!!

By ThreeCRanch |

We were looking for a nice restaurant close to our hotel for our last night in the city. Found Scalini Fedeli on trip advisor. We were absolutely blown away by the quality of the food, the environment and the fantastic service. May have been our best meal of the trip.

Outstanding! The best fish I have ever had!

By NcGhiagirl |

We ate here for my birthday. It was very crowded and actually quite loud. But the waitstaff was fantastic. They were especially good about my food allergy. The egg ravioli was great, as was the bolgnese. My halibut was superb. Unique and delicious. My husband said his steak was perfect. Between multiple amuse Bouche courses and the three included, you get six or seven servings. A deal! The wine list, while good, is very expensive. But the meal itself is well worth the cost and the trip to this area. We will be back!

Letdown!

By Mark S |

Our Christmas Eve dinner at Scalini Fedeli this year was a letdown compared to previous years for a few simple reasons. The prices went up and the portion sizes went down. From the amuse bouches to the appetizers and then the main courses, each has been reduced in size. I had the rack of lamb as my main course...2 small lamb chops. For the cost, it was not a good value overall. Next was the service-just not as attentive as years past. We had to ask for water refills several times and we felt rushed which never happened in the past. We'll choose someplace else to celebrate this special Holiday next year.
