Awesome service and very good food. There were 9 of us celebrating 2 birthdays. Bill took extremely good care of us. Was always right there when we needed him but let us be to enjoy ourselves as well. All of the staff and management were very accommodating. We shared a few appetizers which went very quickly -the calamari, tempura vegetables and shrimp egg rolls. I had the panko crusted sea bass which was light yet very filling. One of our group doesn't like seafood so ordered the steak and she kept raving about it. The only possible criticism I can give is the rolls were just ordinary - they were ok but they weren't on the same level as all the other food. They took very good care of us and we had a wonderful evening. The entrees did take a little while to get but that was good for us since we had presents to open and lots to talk about. They are also very good at letting you know they are cash only so we were prepared. And you can bring your own wine which we appreciated. I would highly recommend.

I read they sold fresh fish with a few tables in the back. On our visit it was a restaurant with some fresh fish in the front. That's okay we came for the restaurant. Meal was decently good, in a cute neighborhood, nice walking distance from downtown, on a lovely, warm spring evening. I had the crabcakes (after three days in Philadelphia, I had enough fresh fish), and my son had the swordfish. Both were decent, nothing terribly outstanding. There are no choices other than seafood on the menu. The cocktails were excellent, and the service was delightful. The table next to us had a gentlemen who owned a restaurant downtown, and this is where he chose to eat. Overall it was very pleasant.

First time at this restaurant. Street parking can be very challenging but I lucked out and got a metered spot in front of the restaurant! I made a reservation through Open Table for 5:00p.m. Though there were plenty of tables at that time it is a small place and not worth the chance you will be turned away so a reservation is best. They have a full bar with reasonable prices ($5. cocktails, Happy Hour specials, etc.) but they let you bring your own bottle of wine if you wish. Service was prompt and efficient. We started with the calamari stuffed with crabmeat. It was delicious but small in size. We also shared the seafood empanadas which were good and a nice size. For entrees my friend had the swordfish which she loved. I had the soft shell crab special which they call the "whale". Two delicious good size crabs! I had the chocolate mouse for dessert and my friend had the caramel bread pudding. Both small in size and delicious. Nice décor with a large mosaic covering the wall. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the food. If you love seafood this is a good place to go as they have a huge selection.

We visited on Friday April 28th. OK we came to Philly from our NJ home because we rec’d an e-mail announcing that soft shell crabs were on the menu. We did the same in March only to find that they had sold out earlier. Well the same thing happened this go round. Fortunately the restaurant had introduced two new dishes recently. We decided to try them both. I ordered the scallop scampi over linguine. It was superb. My husband ordered the tuna Niçoise salad. He loved it. He asked to change the balsamic dressing to a mustard and oil based dressing instead. Our server, Alex, was wonderful. He was quite accommodating. David, the owner, was his usual pleasant self. The buck a shucks were wonderful.

Found this restaurant on opentable.com. Liked that it was BYOB with a small - $5- corkage charge. Had a 7:30 reservation and the restaurant had few patrons at that time. Nonetheless we got a nice table in the front of the restaurant near two other couples - one traveling and one local. Struck up a friendly conversation about places to visit and things to do. Had the tuna lollipops and tempura veggies for an appetizer. My husband had amazing sea bass and I took a lighter approach with a seafood salad that was delicious. Staff was friendly. Pace was comfortable. If you like seafood, this place is reasonably priced and very good.

Fresh seafood delivered!

Our classmates made an arrangement to have dinner here and I just said I love seafood so why not. It was the first seafood restaurant in Philadelphia for me and it was restaurant week so the menu was kind of limited. I had the salmon for mains and the white mouse (yeah it was mouse, a joke for being a small white choc mousse). I had a great time with friends. the ambience was beautiful and portions were more than enough. i also loved that the price wasn't too steep for the quality of food. if I'm bored with my home cooked food, i might come again.

My husband and I thought we were the butt of a practical joke dining here this evening. The restaurant was horrendous at every level. It is next to a nail salon and there is a pervasive odor of nail varnish. The tables were dirty: I had the displeasure of sticking a finger into gum as I tried to steady a tipsy table and my husband put his hand on a sticky mess on his side. It was restaurant week so we were presented with a fixed menu. It was dreadful: the rice ball was without flavor and the wonton was so salty it was inedible. The next course was a stale hummus that had discolored it was left out so long, accompanied by grease soaked cold pita chips, and a grossly over cooked faro in a tasteless supermarket mixed green salad. The main courses were inedible: foul tuna in a bath of soy sauce soaked rice noodles, and gelatinous orchietta with “shrimp.” We ordered the desserts to go: pumpkin bread pudding and chocolate mousse that we have just binned. And a bottle of Pinot Grigio that could have been put to better use at the nail salon next store to remove the gel finish. HORRIBLE. AVOID.

A really delicious dinner of fresh and unfussy broiled arctic char and lovely steamed vegetables. Nice hot crisp rolls and good beer and wine. After all these years, this is still the best place to get fish in Philadelphia. The chef doesn't tinker if you don't want him to, but the crab imperial and crabcakes are the best since old Booky's closed. May not be as slick interior-wise as other places, but the food is SCRUMPTIOUS!

I have been going for years. The shrimp cocktail is the best in city. Well priced and family owned. The owner takes great pride in their business. Love going and sitting at the bar with my wife.

We were here three or four years ago and though unglamorous in looks, the seafood was pretty good, so on a cold night when we were starving and didn't want to walk too far, I felt this would suffice. Once we were seated at our wobbly, smeary little table, I saw to my chagrin that it was tawdry pre-fixe menu, I wanted to take my family and bolt, but our water was served and the owner was standing around in this small space and we were trapped. As an "amuse-bouche" we were served filmy hummus likely from Trader Joe's with crumbling chips. Secondly we had a salad, which was small, but thankfully good, because this was the only fish any of us could eat. Unfortunately , my son had a chowder that tasted like Campbell's. Next came our main dishes, two of them sea bass that had been frozen, thawed, breaded and fried and placed atop canned vegetables. One of my sons had the rubbery steak, which tasted like it had been sitting in water, probably to defrost it, so that it had no taste at all. My husband had a mushy salmon on overdone noodles soaked in a bath of soy sauce. The desserts were a joke. They didn't even bother to take them out of their supermarket foil tins to try and trick us. The runny key lime pie was hilarious. I'll post a photo of that doozy. Obviously the owners know about the supermarket origins of the food, and the staff are complicit, too. It's a tiny place, and every one in the wings knows that no food here is freshly made. We all felt as if we'd been had. I'd had the foresight to order a $20 bottle of warmish plonk straight after I saw the food, so that when we left $250 poorer, I was numb to the pain.

If you love seafood, this is the place for you! I visited alone, and sat at the bar. It was clear that locals frequent here, many knew each other, and the bartender knew everyone's names. The selection was awesome. They had a great happy hour special but I had fresh sea bass. Such a beautiful fresh fish. They accommodated my requests in side dishes, and everything was prepared perfectly. I liked the mural on the wall, it gave it a very relaxed feel. The staff were friendly and attentive. I'm sure I'll return.

quality of the seafood here is first rate raw oysters and clams clam chowder entrees ranging from the lobster soft shell crabs scallops fish ask fresh and very well prepared. The joint is casual but the service is personal and responsive. Can't understand any of the mediocre reviews. . The wine list is small but this is not a wine restaurant. We were a party if nine and well treated. Four stars not five because if the casual nature of the place.

Mondays are mussels unlimited...as many as you can eat for about $12. They come opened and with the sauce of your choosing, which is delicious. There were 6 of us eating, and the shells piled up quickly, were swooped away by the waiter who brought on more plates. We laughed, shared mussels to try the various sauces, scooped up the tasty sauce with good bread and accompanied it with good draft beer. There is a variety of other seafood as well for non-mussel eaters. We went back a few days later for soft shell crabs that were wonderful! Judith Schwartz

We went because it was nearby. Others had rated it a 3.5. We thought it better than that. It has an every day, all day happy hour at the bar and outside tables with discounted drinks and appetizers. Our daughter and her husband went over a bit before we did and took advantage of the happy hour. The server was excellent. Very knowledgeable. I had the fish in the fish special but just ordered it pan seared. It was well prepared and delicious. We shared calamari and mussels. Both were good. Wife had shrimp and scallops over linguine and loved it. The linguine was perfectly cooked as was the seafood. So I gave it a four. If ambiance is important to you, maybe you'd give it a two or three.

Forget romance, forget bar scene (but the bar is ok), forget children, forget large groups, forget (God help us all) outdoor dining and views, forget business dining with all but the most discerning, but if you want seafood, this is the place to go. It's terrific. My wife and I were disappointed to find it closed for renovations on our last visit to Philly, two weeks ago. We'll be back there in another two weeks, and we're already looking forward to our meal. It is, quite simply, the best seafood restaurant we know in the city. At one time, that's what restaurants were all about. Let's hope the owners don't start worrying about all that other stuff.

I eat here every few months with friends and the food is always delicious. Their fish is fresh, cooked to perfection. You can ask for grilled, fried, baked, broiled- whatever you like. And I just love the baked potatoes here- moist, tender, yummy! They have beer and wine too. Definitely a favorite go to place.

Small and clean, nice atmosphere and service was good, but if the food is your main concern it was just OK. While the seafood tasted fresh it just wasn't impressive. My baked potato seemed like it may have been under a warmer all night but we did come just before closing. I take issue with spending over $20.00 a plate and being served butter in the foil wrappers like a diner or bagel shop. The portions were quite small as well.

Had another fantastic dinner at Seafood Unlimited. We originally went there for the soft shell crabs. Which are always delicious. Unfortunately, they were sold out. I ordered the tuna Niçoise salad and so glad I did ! It was my favorite salad so far this year ! The tuna was perfectly seared and sliced. The salad and the components was the highest quality and salad side components were absolutely outstanding. I asked if the chef could make a mustard vinegar dressing and he hit it out of the park. I felt like I was back in France again. The dressing adhered to everything on my plate perfectly. The only addition I would suggest are fried capers on top of the Tuna. S.U. is a great restaurant and the staff and owners are extremely friendly. The atmosphere is casual and charming. We will be returning soon ! Thank You David !

Seafood Unlimited is a neighborhood bar and dining room that is family-run. A special at Happy Hour are the buck a shuck oysters, which you can have with cocktail or mignonette sauce. It's fun to sit at the bar and admire the Zagar mosaic wall. The hosts are always pleasant and take care to make sure everyone is enjoying their meals. A lot of the food is fried, but the seafood is fresh. Try the crabcake sliders and definitely try the onion rings! The seafood marinara is also a good choice if you want something different.

I first came here many years ago as a Rittenhouse Square area resident. At the time, it was a seafood store with a few tables available for eating in. Back then, only locals ate there (if memory serves, its original name was 20th Street Seafood). Eventually it became a full-fledged restaurant. I decided to check it out while on a summer of 2013 visit to Philadelphia. It still has the feel of a modestly-priced local hangout. On the night I ate there, it was very quiet. I had a salad to start and then the crab cakes (something surprisingly hard to find in Europe). Both good if not the best I've ever had. Service was competent and relaxed. Would I eat there again? Sure. That said, if you want a trendy, glamorous or "destination" restaurant, then you will probably be disappointed. But if you want something low-key and unpretentious, then give this place a try.

We came here on a Thursday evening for dinner. After looking at the menu we decided to do three courses of small plates each. I started with the crab stuffed calamari. I expected to recognize the crab inside, but is looked liked piped in mush, and tasted the same. Too bad as we love calamari. My husband ordered the oysters which were very good. We then had the New England clam chowder, which was good but just about room temperature, and the popcorn shrimp which were wonderful. For my last course I had the crab and shrimp spring rolls. Again, there was be discernible crab or shrimp. It again felt like piped in mush. The texture was good and there were two good sized egg rolls. My husband had the muscles in white wine garlic sauce. I shared the dish and they were very good. I think next time we will stick with the appt & entree route as we have not been disappointed with the entrees in the past. It’s a BYOB also with a full bar, and all cash just so you know. The seating was nicely spaced and comfortable. We will be back.

It was the Saturday of Valentine's day W/E but I was able to score a reservation late afternoon so you might need to plan but it's worth giving them a call at the last minute. We stopped to get a nice bottle of white at a local liquor store, was worried when I saw alcohol being served as I was from out of town and unfamiliar with byow, more used to an all or non alcohol policy when it comes to byo! We started with lovely fish empanadas and went with sea bass and crab stuffed lobster; well prepared but not in the range of totally amazing OMG. We were happy with our selections and portions were just right. The asparagus had just the right crunch! The waiter was friendly and we did not feel rushed as we ate our meal at a leisurely pace. I must agree with another reviewer, the chocolate mouse was fine but please skip/drop/rethink the key lime pie! Foil pan with a graham cracker crust does not do the dessert justice. 1 appetizer, 2 high value fish dishes and 2 desserts around $70. Cozy atmosphere.

We stopped here for dinner on our trip to Philadelphia. I had the New England clam chowder for an appetizer. For my main course, I had the crab cakes. Everything was delicious. My wife had the pecan crusted cod and she said it was delicious as well. Be forewarned, the night we were there, they only accepted CASH.

I frequent this neighborhood often and had no idea this place existed. It is not fancy but very clean cozy and contemporary. A lot of people who live in Rittenhouse frequent this restaurant. Fresh fish with meals ranging from simple grilled or even fried flavorful fish to seared scallops with what tasted like to a seared scallops with mushroom and Madeira reduction or honey miso glazed salmon with bok choy both around $20. Great wine, martinis, and hand made desserts.

A very good neighborhood restaurant that offers fresh seafood, a relaxed but civil atmosphere and fair prices. The five of us were first time visitors. One of us did not like seafood. All of us would go back again. If you are a visitor to Philadelphia, near Rittenhouse Square, and are looking for decent seafood at a reasonable price this is a restaurant to consider. Not a destination restaurant but sometimes you just want a more simple dinner but you want it to be good and reasonably priced. If you like fresh seafood this could be the place for you. We all shared some Blue Point Oysters which were cold and fresh. Also an order of Tempura Veggies which were crunchy and were a variety of Red Bell Pepper, Broccoli, Green Squash, Mushroom and some others accompanied by a Soy-Ginger dipping sauce that I thought was very nice. You could easily make a dinner here from a variety of small plates. I had the Sea Scallops which were pan seared and reminded me of the delicious Digby Scallops of Nova Scotia, along with crispy French Fries and a good tasting Cole Slaw. Others in our group had Fish Tacos, Chicken Etouffee, Panko Crusted Cobia with Lobster-Chipotle sauce, Mushroom Risotto, and Brussel Sprouts, Panko Crusted Flounder with Cranberry-Bourbon glaze, mashed potatoes, and Asparagus. All of us enjoyed all we were served by our friendly server, Allison. Seafood Unlimited has a variety of draft beers and wines that go well with the food being offered. Happy Hour is from five o'clock until closing, at the bar or at your table. Drinks are very reasonable, $3 to $7. All of the food for five people came to $125 or $25 each. plus tax and tip. You can't go wrong with good food, good service, good price and a great location just off of Rittenhouse Square. Tripadvisor only gives me a choice between Average and Very Good. Seafood Unlimited was Good, not Very Good and not Average but Good. An easy choice for us to visit again.

I’ve dined At Seafood UNLIMITED for over 25 years and always enjoy their fish specials throughout the week. Monday is Unlimited Mussels in three styles and Tuesday is Fish Tacos. The owners are always on site to ensure that everything goes well.

I was very disappointed since I was taking a client to dinner, booked a reservation online and then after goiing to the restaurant found out they only take cash! I mentioned that this should be on their reservation description and they acted very innocent as if this was the first time this was qustioned. We left....and went to another restaurant nearby. (When entrees are priced between $25-$35, it is unacceptable to expect to pay cash only)

We went to Seafood Unlimited about 30 minutes before they were closing the kitchen. We ordered promptly food came - the rice was uncooked - which the cook and waitress noted, but that was all - no apology - what can we do to make the experience better. The food was not bad or great - just average at best. Cash Only - not my favorite way to pay. Oh and I failed to mention the floor show - when a mouse scurried across the floor and went under a door. The menu is small - service dour - has at least one mouse - manager just said thanks for telling her about the rodent. Won't go back - years ago it was a great spot - not so much anymore.

When I entered the restaurant I wasn't immediately greeted as usually happens in the us. The owner hung around a bit before asking me where I wanted to sit. But I sat at the bar and the waitress took good care of me. I had soft shell crabs which were amazing and a pretty good stuffed calamari. Since the calamari arrived late, the waitress took it off the bill which was very nice of her. All in all a good experience, I would go back for sure.

A tiny, neighborhood place popular with locals. I hardly ever think of eating here as when I want fresh fish there are more attractive places. But it's clean and the fish is fresh. I prefer my crabcakes with all lump rather than the filler served here.

Having a taste for seafood brought us to this quaint place in downtown Philly. The menu was so good it was hard to make a decision as to which one to chose. I had the scallops and I mean it when I say they were the best I have ever had. They give you a choice of who you want them prepared. Mine were pan seared. Very tasty and not at all "sandy". It is a BYOB beer and wine place which is helpful if you want to hold down the price. It is rather small so I would recommend reservations. It is another on my list of "must return".

This restaurant is a tiny establishment very near Rittenhouse Square, very informal. It has a small bar with a few stools were you can eat, drink and at times watch sports up front, then a small dining area toward the rear. They serve very fresh seafood, made to order, nicely prepared and served, very tasty. It is not fancy, just a great neighborhood restaurant with great food at very reasonable prices. We prefer it, frankly, to the pricier seafood restaurants around Rittenhouse. I would reserve using OpenTable, because they are quite small and popular.

So we're in Center City Philadelphia and we decide we want fish for dinner. I remember this restaurant which I last visited about 10 years ago. I remembered it as a solid choice for fresh seafood in a no-nonsense fish store atmosphere, and I remembered reasonable prices. We'll - the place has been upscaled, but the prices are still good considering you're at a seafood restaurant in Center City. And the fish is still fresh and prepared with care. I didn't order the 1 1/4 pond lobster with sides for $23.50. Instead I got crab cakes no filler (really). My wife got bronzino. We both enjoyed the experience, and we won't hesitate to return.

Recently went for a nice dinner with the wife and decided on seafood. We planned on walking the Rittenhouse area so we search for a great place around there and stumbled upon Seafood Unlimited. At first glace it could be a little off-putting as it is really a small seafood market with about ten tables in the back. The restaurnat is also very 'plain' looking...almost like you'd be expecting take-out fish and chips instead of a wonderful fresh seafood dinner. I ordered a swordfish special and the wife had the salmon and we both were extremely happy with our choices. The food was delightful and the service was very good and friendly...and also fast. I would certainly recommend this to anyone looking for some real quality seafood in Philadelphia. The location is terrific and the prices are great too! Great find!

The food at Seafood Unlimited was great, and reasonably priced. However, the ambiance could have been better. It resembled that of a fish market, as there is actually a seafood counter in the front of the restaurant! It is rather small, so it makes for an intimate date...but, not an impressive one. However, I would go back again since I really enjoyed the food.

So, they have a full bar, with wine, but advertise that they are byob. I could not get a straight answer out of them whether I could bring my own bottle or not. In the end, we ordered from the bar. I had finished my drink by time we finished the appetizer, and was never offered a refill. We were also not offered a dessert menu. The food was good. The menu can lean a bit towards the fried side, but it was easy to avoid. The kitchen was willing to make some adjustments to the dishes for us. It was a pleasant dinner. Service could have been better, but you cannot have it all. Nor can you pay by credit card.

I made the decision to visit after a theater matinee. I found the service prompt and the menu selection limited, but outstanding. There were several nightly special appetizers and an equal number of entrees. I selected the house salad and squash soup, and then pumpkin crusted char which was served with pak choy and fresh cut french fries The food was market fresh, well seasoned, and cooked to perfection. If you're looking for choice seafood, then Seafood Unlimited should be your choice.

We visited Seafood Unlimited for restaurant week. I feel the restaurant missed their chance to shine. The potato and leek soup was under seasoned and there were no chunks or anything of substance. I got the pistachio crusted salmon. The salmon was cooked quite well, but there was really no pistachio crust to see or taste. The creamy risotto was anything but creamy. It was dry and was more like sticky rice. On a positive note, the mousse was excellent.

Enjoyed dinner here while visiting Philadelphia. Interesting selection of seafood. Menu is small but selections are mostly seasonal and fresh ( soft shell crabs!!!) my order was given incorrectly and server offered another cocktail to compensate (and keep me entertained while waiting;) Desserts are few but carefully curated and presented.

This restaurant was small but that did not bother me much, the food was very good, service was very good, prices ok, I would go back to this restaurant.

Small local bistro near Rittenhouse Square, worth looking out if you like seafood. Also allows BYO, so washed down our popcorn shrimp, crab cakes and trio of flounder, scallops and shrimp with an excellent champagne. Fresh seafood, some of the best I've tasted, the scallops especially were melting and sweet - fabulous

I found this place through Yelp, not knowing much about Philadelphia. I made a reservation for 9:00 pm on a Wednesday night, not knowing how crowded it would be. When I showed up, I was the only one there (it was raining so maybe that's why, but it was quite odd). I was literally the only guest in the restaurant. It's a small place. The layout looks more like a cafeteria than a restaurant. They have Wednesday night specials for lobster and the prices were reasonable. I started with the raw oysters. I could have sworn the menu said there were 6 for $7.50 but they brought me 4. Two were very small and two were decent size. I asked for tabasco sauce but was brought something similar to a cocktail sauce, which was disappointing. The quality was decent but not spectacular and they garnished the oysters with green leaves that were turning a bit brown. For the main course, I had a beef tenderloin coupled with a lobster tail. Beef was prepared as I had asked and was delicious. The lobster tail was large and of very good quality. It came with a side of mashed potatoes and a bland vegetable. Overall, the food was very good. The service was rather standoffish. The waiter (who I believe may have also been the manager/owner) was not particularly attentive and focused more on casual conversations with other employees who didn't have anything to do since I was the only guest. If there was a 3 star +, I'd give it a rating between 3 and 4 stars overall.

I am from Florida and I have a hard time finding good fried shrimp in the North East but not anymore. This place is a little hard to find and I probability should not be telling everyone but they are a great restaurant. I have been several times with family and friends and we always have a great evening here. This is not a chain restaurant so it is cozy and very personal so you should make reservations to get a seat on the weekends. They have a small bar so can you get your wine & drinks from them or BYB (wine) for a small $3 opening fee. I suggest going midweek so you can relax and chat with the owner about the seafood he recommends.

When you see Owners as involved as this married couple one knows they have their heart & soul in it. They are as involved as their excellent wait staff...from seating to serving to bussing to engaging conversation. It's not overbearing; it's just right for this bustling, close-quarters gem, with high-brow humor thrown in. While we enjoyed only their (limited) restaurant week selections we surely plan to return for full-menu. Fish and seafood samples were superbly done.

My husband took me here for my birthday. While it's a seafood place, I wanted a steak and I like mine rare. The waiter had a good bit of fun with me about liking rare meet, what a vampire I am, etc., etc., It got a little awkward. So I was surprised when I was served a super well done sirloin. My husband had lobster which he liked but said it tasted frozen... fine, we don't live near a sea. But when asked how I liked my meal, I wasn't rude but honest. And in return I got a lot of attitude from the wait staff. The final catch - the waiter came to the table and said "since your meal was so horrible, can I offer you a free dessert?" At that point, I figured they were just being snarky so we passed on the free dessert and will not be back again.

I went for a friend's birthday. First, they told us they ran out of knives so we had to share. Then, there was 1 bottle of A1 at the table that was nearly empty and they told us they ran out if that too. All of our steaks were over cooked no matter how we asked for them to be prepared. The rest of the food was dry and overdone as well. Finally, when I ran out of lemonade the waitress made a huge deal about it not being a free refill on it, as if I could afford to eat there but couldn't order what I wanted. The experience was horrible to say the least.

My first visit to Seafood Unlimited. This is a small, fun restaurant. They offer a great variety of seafood. The service was friendly and efficient. There is no parking on site but plenty nearby. BYOB beer and wine, they do offer a custom made beer brewed just for them. We were a group of 8 and everyone had a great time, not a single complaint. Anxious to go back!

Went for a Valentine's Day dinner. First couldn't find the place. Didn't realize we were looking for a very small place. Good service. Limited menu. Cook's had to keep coming out of kitchen to get seafood from a cooler in front that was up front for take out food. Very crowded. coat rack was on door behind my head and I got hit in the head a few times. Not enough room on table for bread, plates and drinks. Husband was practically sitting in aisle the waitress had to squeeze by. Baked Potato was from another day..brown inside and wrapped in tin foil( a no-no). Crab cakes were a little burnt but veggies were fresh and cooked perfectly. Bill was about $100 with a glass of wine, dinner, one salad and dessert.

I have dined here for years on a regular basis several times a month and have always been delighted with the menu prices and hospitality. They offer specials most night like unlimited mussels on Monday, Seafood tacos on Tuesday in addition to their extensive menu. Attractive dining room and friendly service. Cash Only however.

My Philadelphian friend and I wandered looking for a place for dinner when our first choice turned out to be an hour wait. What luck! This inviting, friendly restaurant first struck our eye with it's amazing mosaic wall inside. My friend is an artist, and dinner with art is a treat. But a great seafood dinner with bright, cheerful art is great. A friendly staff and lots of "regulars" added to a wonderful evening.

I've been coming to Seafood Unlimited for years and have to say that it's one of my very favorite neighborhood spots. First of all the seafood is delicious: always fresh and always prepared perfectly. They have a fairly innovative chef for a fish joint and he does a great job. Second of all the restaurant is very cozy and inviting. There are lots of regulars from the neighborhood (also enjoying the bar) and it makes for a simply terrific, relaxed and tasty dining experience.

Arrived with 5 o'clock reservation. I was seated at 5:04, given a menu and glass of water. No one returned to my table to take an order or ask a question. I was THE ONLY customer in the entire restaurant. Waitress stood around talking with bartender and manager about how well other restaurants were prospering. Meanwhile I waited. Counting the minutes to be notice by the staff. The menu was limited. I did not need an Hour to review it. White customers came in, were seated and had waiter attention immediately; however, due to limited Menu on a FRIDAY night at a Seafood spot, They left. I was still waiting, me and my glass of water. Eventually at 5:31 pm, I removed myself from this establishment. Their behavior was not an oversight, it was intentional. I walked 2 blocks to Devon's, where service and Food were impeccable. ☆☆☆☆☆ I will NOT RECOMMEND this poor dinner only spot to No one.

One of my favorite restaurants. I like fresh seafood, simply prepared, and that is exactly what they do. Priced very reasonably with a couple of side dishes. Nothing fancy, but delicious and reasonably healthful as well. The setting is casual and comfortable. Low-key, quiet. I was concerned when they closed for renovations that they would not reopen or would be significantly changed, but they are back and much the same as before except with a few more tables and a bit updated. Hooray!

We came here on a Wednesday for an early dinner. Happy Hour was still going on. I had a dozen oysters for $12.00, and they were delicious. My husband had popcorn shrimp for $6.00, and they were very good. Our server, Ryan, was super friendly and helpful. I had the panko encrusted sea bass for an entree. It was delicious. My husband had the soft shell crabs, which he enjoyed thoroughly. Judi and David were as gracious as always.

Modern decor with a friendly staff and FRESH fish. Their Happy Hour has great specials including very fresh oysters on the half shell, my personal favorite. They accept, and honor, reservations. Will return soon.

Here we have a case where a nice family run restaurant clearly has trouble finding good help, perhaps due to low customer volume. The seafood is well-prepared and reasonably priced, with perpetually changing specials. The problem for people like myself who prefer bar seating is the bartender is perpetually injecting her uninvited two-cents into conversations with a sarky and militant tone. Someone might want to inform her that people do not enjoy having their conversation interrupted, that we are not her invited guests, and our conversations are private. Hopefully the owners will make some changes. Silence is golden.

We came here for buck a shuck oysters and cocktails on a recent (4/23/22) Saturday. We were the first customers in the place. We sat at the bar. My husband ordered a dozen oysters and I did the same. Our oysters came out six on each plate. We assumed that they would bring out the other six when shucked. In the meantime we asked for mignonette sauce which took a good five minutes to arrive. The place began to fill up with everyone ordering the oysters. Nick D was our bartender/server. I was never asked if I wanted a second glass of wine. We finally asked where the rest of our oysters were, Nick D insisted that we only ordered six each. We corrected her. We could tell she was not happy. The oysters continued to roll out for other guests. Finally the balance of our oysters arrived. She never apologized. I had to ask for another glass of wine, which she short poured. The next customer to order more oysters were told they were sold out - a full hour before happy hour ended! Not good. We usually come in for dinner, which we have always enjoyed. The owners are always pleasant. We will not sit at the bar again!

We had read the reviews and were really surprised when we finally went. We expected a good restaurant. This is not. It is just ok, about akin to eating at Bonefish Grill. First, the wine list includes perhaps 8 whites and 8 reds. We asked for a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and were informed that it was not cold. We then asked for a bottle of Pinot Grigio. It too was not quite cold. We were then presented with a cold roll. My wife and I both opted for grilled fish--she had rainbow trout and I had swordfish. Both were fresh, but the sauce that we thought was a puttanesca (it was described as olives, capers and tomatoes), was full of butter rather than olive oil. All in all, this is a basic, decent seafood restaurant. Philly doesn't have many good seafood restaurants so this one gets better reviews than it should. The seafood is fresh, but that's about the best we can say.

Compliments to the chef!!!! Had the "special twin lobsters" (about 2-1/2 lbs +) and they were outstanding for $25. including two veggie sides, etc. BYOB or really bargain priced drinks ($5./martini etc) Maybe a current special!!! One small problem --- go on an off night like Sunday as we do now, since it is a hard surface restaurant and can become noisy when full!!!

My wife, sister-in-law, and I ate at a sidewalk table on a hot night in late June. We had panko crusted sea bass, crab cakes, and pan-seared scallops. All were good (we shared them around) but we agreed the sea bass was about the best fish we had ever eaten. The waiter didn't know what sea it came from but was sure it wasn't Chilean so-called sea bass. We only had two nights in central Philly and contemplated a number of other places for our second night, but ended up returning to Seafood Unlimited. Same table, same waiter, but we traded out the crab cakes for a second order of that remarkable bass. The thing about crab cakes is they may be good but they're never as good as the first time you ever had them.

I am a big seafood fan but the way that they prepared my broiled assortment of fish was bad. They leave the skin on the fillets and the belly fat, which is where the fishy taste comes from, was gross. Disappointing for the price...

We arrived late on Friday and needed a place to get a late dinner (after 9pm). We did our research and glad we settled on Seafood Unlimited. The restaurant is decked out like a giant fish bowl scene with lots of sea motifs ie mermaids etc on the blue walls. We were glad that they seated us after 9:30 pm since they close at 11pm. We proceed to do the following menu: Tempura Veggies – Soy/Ginger Dipping Sauce Ahi Tuna Salad Flounder Sea Scallops, Shrimp, some other fish mixed plate Everything was great especially the termpura and the Ahi Tuna Salad. Tempura was not greasy and the coating was just perfect. Wish we could have done the cod or rainbow trout but they were out. Pricing was very comparable and reasonable. Wish portion sizes were just a bit bigger though ... Service was great and we enjoyed being in the Rittenhouse Sq area as it was very lively with college aged kids milling about. We will definitely return.....

We were a bit disappointed that almost everything on the menu was fried and very greasy when served.

After a long day of seeing the sites and shopping around Philly, my sister and I wanted a really good meal of seafood. We were recommended to go to Seafood Unlimited. Our meal was great. As it was Monday night, we found ourselves there in the middle of happy hour, and got to drink $3 Yuenglings. Neither of us are big eaters, so we each had a cup of their wonderful New England Clam Chowder and then we split the scallops with the asparagus and bock choy. Everything was great. We also loved the decor that features a beautiful wall-sized mosaic. Thanks to everyone at Seafood Unlimited for a lovely meal.

This is a small venue in an old quaint neighborhood. It is touted by the locals as the place to eat fresh. It has a laid back friendly attitude and the decor is Magic Garden. The prices are reasonable. You are made to feel at home and although seating is limited you are not rushed. Interesting conversation abounds instead of annoying music. Reservations through Open Table is highly recommended to the point of being a must. It fills up fast. Also, get on their mailing list for specials. They no longer take credit cards so bring cash. And check out the waiter who looks like Douglas Fairbanks you kinda expect him to swashbuckle any minute.

We have eaten here several times on visits to Philadelphia, and always enjoyed excellent food here, but this time was a bit different. They recommended the swordfish that one of us ordered, but it was overcooked and dry. I ordered salmon with a citrus-ginger sauce. The salmon was very good, but the sauce was quite cold and made the fish cold. The New England clam chowder was quite good, and the scallops one of us ordered were delicious. So maybe it was just a slightly off day, but it definitely was not the consistently delicious food we enjoyed on previous visits. The owners remodeled this restaurant. They expanded the bar and the number of tables, changed the decor to a more modern, dimly lit (purplish) environment. My wife liked it, and I liked the cleaner look, but our son said it felt like Disneyland. We will try again, in case the couple of disappointments were an aberration, but we wonder...

Found this place in a hotel book. Looked like a good place and it was. The clam chowder was the best ever!! Lobster was the special, but I had fried oysters. They were good too. Small place, good service, friendly staff.

We were sat, never given menus. Passed by numerous times, finally got someone's attention for menus. Waiter came to take our drink orders, only got 1 out of 3 orders and walked off. Brought us all back what she ordered. The other gal and I finally got to order our drinks. We all ordered meals, people around us got bread. We were never offered it, but asked and he brought it. Our food was all good, but waiter didn't know the menu. He told us the spring rolls were in rice paper, they weren't. He told us the trip was all broiled, it didn't taste broiled. Food was good, service needs work. Cash only is a pain.

We came here on a Saturday (04/19/25) for dinner. Our waitress, Milan C., seemed nice. We had the bucks shuck oysters which were delicious. The popcorn shrimp were wonderful. For my dinner I asked for the scallops and jasmine rice with a lemon-garlic sauce instead of the usual teriyaki sauce. It was really bland. My husband ordered the bluefish special. It was just OK. Everything should have been spiced better. When our check was delivered we were paying by cash. Milan gave us $5.00 less than we were owed as change. We pointed this out to her and she quickly ran to the register to get our $5.00 as if she knew what she had done. Too bad because David and Judy have a nice business.

Unassumingly located, first time here. Cozy setting, perfect for a quite dinner. Staff - great attitude& service. Food choices fewer than expected but - fresh, presentation & taste 👌🏾. Variety of drinks served. **please note they only accept cash 💰, ATM in premise for your convenience. Recommend

My friend and I were excited to go to Seafood Unlimited as it had come highly rated and being Philly Restaurant Week, it gave us an added incentive; however, the excitement was short lived. The appetizers were very good. My friend's meal; shrimp with tenderloin was good she said, but my meal panko crusted sea bass was not crisp as one expects from panko, was too salty, had too much of tomato/white bean and the 1.5 pieces of Brussels sprout was disappointing. Dessert was fine. The service needed a lot of improvement. When the chef has to come out to tell the wait staff the food is ready doesn't look good. The mango cherry whiskey sour sounds better than it tastes and sangria with cinnamon just doesn't blend well. The menu had good selection so that I'd like to try, but this experience has left me a little leary.

A group of us ladies ventured out for ladies night during restaurant week in Philly, which a 4 course meal is offered at a discounted rate. Now we have all frequented other restaurants during this time & mostly was very pleased with the food & service. Now, Seafood unlimited.no wait time was perfect. We made reservations & was seated almost immediately. To our surprise, the restaurant was extremely small & tight. After we were quickly seated, we ended up waiting so long that we actually called the server over to place our order. Now the food, the starter appetizer was super tasty & we were super excited to sample the other meals. The next was the salad, super let down & there were only 2 salad dressings to choose from. The next came our platter which we knew would come out tasty. I ordered the steak/shrimp combo with mash & Brussel sprouts. Let's just say the Brussels were the best thing on my plate, the steak was tender but under seasoned, the mash was the nastiest box tasting mash I've ever had & the shrimp seemed like it went straight from frozen to a pan & would so hard I could barely enjoy it. Lastly, the dessert had to be right...not to many ways you can mess up carrot cake..nope, very stiff, icing thick & seems like it came from a fridge also. Now the staff/server was really nice & made some small accommodations as most of us were displeased. My suggestion would be that they hire a new chef & serve fresh food & maybe a better rating would be given. Needless to say, none of us have plans on returning. :(

Large variety of excellent well prepared Fish and Seafood. We had great Fish Tacos for $3 on Taco Wednesday.Best oysters I have had since I was in Maine Their Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail with Remoulade sauce is my favorite appetizer..Judi and David the owners are terrific people and very helpful with menu suggestions. Their Saturday and Sunday Brunch are very different and awesome. How about Shrimp and Grits- the best,I also like their "endless drinks:" at Brunch

I went here Friday night after a show at the Merriam Theater, and I am glad I did! First off, they close on Friday night at 11pm, but will serve food up until like 10:30. I don't mean the late night menu with a few appetizers listed; instead I am talking about the full menu! I ended up getting their salmon burger with dill mayo, and my husband ordered their buffalo shrimp appetizer and lamb pops. It was the perfect amount of food - full but not uncomfortably stuffed. We both ordered delicious cocktails before dinner as well. I had the key lime pie martini and he had the apricot old fashioned. My key lime martini was good, but it is hard to be completely satisfied after trying some of the best in Key West. As for my husband's drink, he liked it so much he attempted to try and duplicate the drink at home the next night! Last, the decor in this place is amazing! The whole back wall is made up of beautiful mosaic tiles (sea themed). The artist is Isaiah Zagar - same man that created Philadelphia's Magic Gardens on South Street.

Some friends, knowing I love seafood, took me to Seafood Unlimited and I didn't want to leave. I ordered twice. The seafood salad was excellent as well as the Fish and Chips I ordered. Cozy, intimate space that I highly recommend !

Everything was delicious. Oysters and Tuna lollipops for appetizers. Our entrees were shad (grilled and best ever) and scallops, mushrooms with rice (generous portion and yummy sauce). We shared a lovely little key lime pie, kudos to the pastry chef! Service was friendly, but could have been more focused. Overall, a delightful meal. We will visit again.

The silverware was dirty 2 out of the 3 times that it was placed before me. Upon requesting an additional bread roll, we were informed by our waitress that they ran out.?? Another guest besides myself seemed to have sand and black floaties at the bottom of our glasses. By this time, we were completely dissatisfied and ready to go. The waitress had a pleasant demeanor. The only positive review I can provide. Completely disgusted as well as disappointed.

This is a small (7-8 tables and bar seating) but a delight. The local folks know of it, most tourists dont but if you are hunkering for seafood and you dont want to go to the typical tourist places, this is a great one. I had tuna ahi, barb had salmon, i had a manhattan clam chowder....excellent...we did not drink so the bill was not too pricey but after nov 1, it will be a cash restaurant ,no credit cards..our friends also enjoyed it as much as we did.

We came here on a recent Saturday evening. The place is small but not loud or uncomfortable. They have a liquor license, but encourage diners to bring their own wine, which we did. I started with a special appy - large sea scallops on top of spinach with a yummy roasted red pepper sauce. The heat of the scallops melted the spinach as I ate it. It was quite delicious and imaginative. The sauce was not overwhelming. I also opted for a special entree - the stripped bass with rock lobster and asparagus with a creamy red curry sauce. This was also excellent. The portions were large and the sauce perfect. My husband had the same entree and very much enjoyed the white clam chowder to start. He said it could be the best he ever had. Service was a little uneven but very friendly. There were bread plates on the table, but no bread was brought to us although other diners rec’d bread. No biggie for us. The bread pudding with berries for desert was good. The tiramisu just ok as it was very dense. We can’t wait to come back - maybe during the week for one of their specials!

This was our first visit to this restaurant. They have a large menu. We started our dinner with salads. I ordered the Seasonal Salad. It was tasty but on the small size for $8.00. My husband tried the Caesar Salad. This salad was also $8.00 but was bigger. We shared a crab cake as an appetizer. It was tasty but was served not warm. For my main course I had the Chatham Codfish wish came with a choice of two sides - mixed vegetable and baked potato. The fish was was good but the baked potato was either over baked or old. Either way not good. My husband liked his special - shrimp, scallops and linguini in a creamy pesto sauce. Service was good. I don't we will return.

My daughter and I enjoyed a wonderful seafood dinner, trying dishes with lobster, crab, and scallops. Everything was delicious. The service was better than excellent.

This was our first visit here; It has been in business for decades so we felt we would find a good experience and that was the case. It was a Saturday night, early evening and we beat the crowd that followed us in. The place was hoppin' as we prepared to leave. It is a BYOB although they have a bar and no cork fee, thank you very much. It is a narrow room divided into two section. It has a aqua blue atmosphere which eludes to being under the sea. The first area has a tile facade that was put together by the artist who does the Magic Garden. I am not a fan of the MG BUT this was nicely done and attractive. We sat in the second area which was plain with the exception of a large mirror on each wall. The waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. The portions were adequate but not abandonment. We were not rushed and we enjoyed our experience. Be aware that this is CASH ONLY and it is posted prominently throughout.

Showed up on a Sunday night at 8:40. Man was blocking entrance - looked like the chef. Closing hour was 9 pm. He said they were closed. It was obvious that he just didn't want our business because he wanted to go home. It must be nice to be so busy that you can afford to alienate customers. We went down the street and ate at a restaurant that wanted our business. With an economy like this I would suggest supporting people who care.

Overall a great place. Wide selection of fish entrees. We tried the "quintet" and all 5 fish items were very fresh an correctly cooked. Here, the seafood rather than seasoning is the star of the plate. For some people, it may appear bland, but for us it was perfect as we could enjoy the natural deliciousness of the fresh seafood. Perhaps the best part was the clam chowder- best Ive had in a very long time.

If you want fresh fish, simply but deliciously prepared, Seafood Unlimited is the place for you in Philly. The the decor makes you think you are swimming in the tank with those fish. This is a small place; there's a bar and a few tables, but we didn't feel at all cramped. The sea scallops were done perfectly; the crab cakes were delicious; the sea bass was both. The service was friendly and efficient. We'll come back to this place.

Really. Truly. The best soft-shells you can find. Enjoy! And if you're not a soft-shell fan, they have delicious crabcakes, and a nice (and changing) variety of fresh fish, which they will prepare anyway you want. Although they don't always have it, the lobster roll appetizer is also delicious.

The wait person was great. She was the bar tender and also served the few tables next to the bar. She was prompt and SO friendly. We just happened to have walked in during happy hour. They had wine for $7.50 a glass and oysters for a buck each. I had the Manhattan clam chowder, which was very tasty but had precious few clams - and for my main course I had the soft shelled crabs. (I had never had the opportunity to try them before, but I've always heard people rave about them. They were good, but I didn't see what all the fuss was about. That is not a reflection on the restaurant, because they cooked and presented them perfectly, it was just an "oh well" in terms of a selection. I am a seafood addict and eat anything that swims, but I won't be having soft shelled crabs again.) My husband ordered the zucchini appetizer, which he really enjoyed, and the panko crusted sea bass, which he absolutely raved about. We shared a key lime tart for desert, which was ok but not great. All in all we were really taken with the place. It was a really nice experience and will definitely return there when we're next in Philadelphia.

We do not miss a visit to Seafood Unlimited when we visit Philadelphia. This is a very small restaurant near Rittenhouse Square. It is an informal place, and you should reserve ahead to be sure of a table, because of its size. The seafood always is very good. Crab cakes, fish, whatever your pleasure, you are sure to come away very satisfied and very pleased.

This had to be worst restaurant that I have eatten at in 20 years. The service was good but the seafood is frozen and poorly prepared. I had the trio (Flounder, shrimp and scallops) which was so greasy and over cook, it was no reason to stay once the food was place in the table. This is not a place that people with a love or like of food should consider.

of course i forgot reading that this place only accepts cash so we walked four blocks in the rain to the bank and back....almost didn't want to return but it was our choice for the evening meal...nice and cozy atmosphere...we were seated in the back near the restrooms and kitchen although there were other tables available...we happened to visit on an all you can eat mussels night and noticed many of the diners there were ordering bowl after bowl....there are plenty of choices on the menu and i ordered a healthy piece of broiled bluefish which was prepared perfectly but not very flavorful....my partner had a salad with chicken that looked okay but not something i would have ordered...the service was attentive but not intrusive and the prices were reasonable....i wouldn't rush to go back though.....

Stopped in for happy hour after work and was very happy with my experience here. Got the buffalo shrimp and was pleased with the amount and quality of the dish. The place is bigger inside than it looks so there's plenty of seating.

The crab and shrimp spring rolls appetizer was fine and the tempura veggies app was excellent. My Ahi Tuna was excellent. Seared and served rare, as ordered. My friend enjoyed his trout pan seared. Our other friend enjoyed his fish tacos. I would have given more stars but for a couple of issues. The fries are coated. Some people may like this. I do not. So maybe 1/2 demerit for the fries. A friend and I both ordered the key lime pie. I'm sure I can buy better in the frozen section of my local supermarket. A major demerit for that. All in all, I enjoyed my dinner and I would return for dinner again. Aside from the nit picking it is not a bad place. The service is pleasant and competent, and the room is cozy without feeling crowded.

Service was good...A little noisy from the bar..Portions were small and salmon had no taste..Left here and went to get something to eat-still hungry... I won't go back..

The food and service was excellent. Ordered the panko crusted sea bass. It was so go and cooked perfect. The appetizer seafood empanadas were awesome. They need to add them to their everyday menu.

I have dined at this restaurant for several years when ever I am visiting family in Philly. The food is always fresh and excellent. The cocktails are quite good too. I love how they redecorated the place. It is a must if you are visiting. Nice casual family run restaurant .

This has become our default choice when we want to get away from meat and potatoes and pasta. This is a small, storefront restaurant on a fairly busy northbound street. It appears to have a number of "regulars" who are acknowledged by the wait staff who have been there for some time. The menu is varied and features frequent "specials," (7 oz Lobster Tail-$ 19.) and a good mix of fish and shellfish dishes. It can get a little noisy when full, but most of the time, it is quite pleasant for dining. It features a full bar. I would recommend it when you want good seafood, freshly cooked in a setting that feels like an undersea reef.
Amazing Food!!
We loved this place so much, in our 6-day stay, we ate there twice. Staff is awesome & know how to make the guest feel valuable & fed well!! We Highly recommend it!
