The food here is wonderful and more Northern Italy than what you usually find in Italian restaurants. Don't be afraid to try something new because it will surely be good. We don't go as much because of the kids, but look forward to going again soon.

We dined there around 6 times over a 9 day period and to be honest this was the best food and service that we received during our north American trip .

Excellent service, delicious food, very accommodating to special requests. I would highly recommend!

This is your typical friendly local place where you can go for a good burger or pasta. The place is very friendly .

Yet another great dinner in Harlem. This restaurant took a late booking from us, which was great. The staff here were very attentive, but relaxed and not stuffy. I honestly cannot recall what we had, but I do remember it being excellent. I suggest just going here and diving in. The specials dishes sounded really good and I think we had at least one of those. The salmon tartare was a refreshing starter. Wine list was good without being ridiculous in length or over the top prices. There was even a lovely acoustic jazz trip playing. These musicians were top notch and just capped off a romantic and delicious dinner. Recommend going here if you are in the neighborhood.

Settepani has always been a place of quality and stylish dining, even when it was a coffee shop/sandwich/salad spot. Music nights are great and we can always expect a sophisticated crowsd

First visit was in April of 2022. Everything was impeccable. Service, food, conversation, atmosphere. Returned in December and celebrated New Years at this restaurant as our flight to return to Arizona was cancelled. We had one of the best times we have had on new year's eve. It was festive and elegant from the moment we walked in. We talked to almost everyone in the place before the evening was over; again the service was impeccable and elegant; the food was amazing! And the evening ended with hugs from all of the staff. We especially adore Seyoum who remembered us from our visit in April. I just can't recommend this place with any more accolades. Everything is delicious (especially their pastries) and the flavors of the main courses are unique and linger on the palate. If we lived here, we'd be regulars. Until our next visit to New York...we love you Settepani!

We had our last meal in NYC at this place and I have to say I was very curious about it as we were passing it on our daily trip to closets Metro station and it just looked weird - an Italian restaurant in the middle of Harlem. Anyway we got there not expecting much but it turned out to be very good! The restaurant itself is trying to be a bit posh so even though there is no dress code you'll see most people wearing shirts rather than t-shirts etc. The staff has divided roles and so on (you got the picture). The meals are typical Italian/Mediterranean cuisine (no pizza though) mostly pasta-like and does cost about $20+ (at the time of writing). All food tasted great. The best thing about this place was something else - the personnel had incredible "can do" attitude and is trying really hard to provide you with anything you want. With us - I'we unwittingly asked for Olives without checking the menu - and they did got them for me. Yes the olives were bit weird as they weren't meant to be starter but the attitude was amazing! Also we've got some other things done even though they were not on the menu. This is probably the best service I've ever got in any restaurant. The gratuity is not automatically included so again it is up to you how much you tip unlike in other places.

I've visited Settepani - the restaurant, not the bakery - three times and I always found the atmosphere and food congenial. It is not the most fabulous restaurant in the Northern hemisphere, not even in New York City, but the Sicilian fare is pretty authentic. I've been to Sicily and find Settepani's pasta con le sarde delicious and very close to the real thing. Last week I had spaghetti con bottarga and yet again was not at all disappointed. My dining companion had orata and told the waiter it was cooked to perfection. Speaking of waiters, some other reviewer here mentioned terrible service. I am sure that was the case then, but I never had a bad experience here. In fact always very personable, friendly and efficient waiters. I really enjoy the owners of Settepani. Leah is a great hostess. She walks around from table to table greeting diners and making sure everything is okay. I find that charming and reassuring. It means she is willing to put her face out there in case something is not right.

We had lunch on a Sunday afternoon at Settepani and I have to say that the recommendations from our waiter were spot on. One of us had a lovely cocktail with out starters which was really nice. As main course we both had the recommended seafood pasta which was creatively presented and we did not regret it. We do recommend Settepani.

Went to this restaurant with a large group. Considering the large number of people I cannot give the wait staff enough praise, they were pleasant, efficient and very obliging. The food was excellent and very attractively presented. Beverages were plentiful the dessert was outstanding. All in all a very pleasant lunch no rubber chicken just good food. I highly recommend this restaurant.

First course (cold) was a bust .... Completely tasteless. However, subsequent courses we all shared were delish .... No complaints. We complained about first course, and it would have been apprpriate for them to modify the bill accordingly. ...... They chose not to, so be ready to walk out pronto, folks, if your first course is not up to par. They,d get 5 stars from me if the courses had been consistently good.

We ate here 4 out of 7 evenings during our stay in NYC, (which says something), as we were stsying just around tne corner.. Naturally overy the course of 4 evenings we sampled quite a bit if the menu, which we would describe as Mediterranean (a mixture of Italian and French cuisine). All of our meals were nicely presented and very enjoyble ...no complaints. We noticed that the clientele were mainly local, which made the atmosphere very friendly and relaxed. The staff were attentive and friendly, with the service being good. Price wise we would say good value for money, not over priced, including the wine.

We have been going to Settapani for years and have seen it evolve into a very excellent neighborhood restaurant. The ambience is nice and the service is great. The owner is part of the community and the pride of ownership really shows. The selection of wine and beer is excellent as is the food. We have taken friends from out of town there many times and will continue to return often.

The first time we ate in this place I was pleasantly surprised. When walking through the entrance there is a fully stocked bar that takes up the width on the corner store front restaurant making it seem like it was a very small cozy place. Around the left side it opens up to a much larger space which was still very comfortable and not crowded. The wait staff was very nice and friendly. There seemed to be more bus help then waiters. Our waiter was good until we recieved our main course which was delivered by the bus staff and then he disappeared not to be seen again. He actually appologized at the end of our dinner that he was not more attentive. After a while it felt like we were being ingnored and we had to ask the bus boy for the check. We order 2 glasses of wine which I thought was priced very resaonably. Our first course was a Caprese Tomato & Mozzarrella in pesto. Very nicely done ($13-15 huh?). It was not really large enough to share as we did. Again the waiter dropped the ball on this one. I was thinking the portions from tha point on was going to be skimpy. Ok, it was just an appetizer. My girlfriend ordered the T-Bone steak special (medium) which came with fingerling potatoes. It was served on a rectangular white dish which was a little too small for this entree. While cutting the steak the potatoes would slip off the plate. I had the Tuna which the waiter said was a tuna Steak. It actually looked like a loin but cut into medallians and served over a bed of finely diced vegies in a balsalmic vinegar sauce. This was absolutely delicious. I could only hope I can remember this enough to try and dupicate it at home. Overall, I liked this place and would return although I thought it was extremely pricey for what it was. People going to a neighborhood restaurant should not have to shell out $150 with a tip for a Friday evening dinner.

The restaurant has a jazz band on Thursdays and we did stop on the way back to our B&B to enjoy a drink and a couple of songs. On another night we decided to attend for a meal. After a very enjoyable meal - Kalamari (the best we have tasted) for an appetizer and then I had a steak prepared to perfection and my spouse had a chicken/feta dinner that was extremely tasty followed by coffee with biscotti - we were ecstatic but the the restaurant was busy and we had to wait about 30 minutes to get our bill which certainly took away from the experience. I would recommend the restaurant with the suggestion that you ask for the bill with your coffee.

I had the homemade pumpkin ravioli, my date had the steak, and we shared a bottle of Asti (it was New Years Eve). Everything was delicious. The space was casual and upscale at the same time--so comfortable and classy. We heard people speaking Italian all around us and reminisced about our trip to Italy. Overall, excellent experience.

The place is bright and clean. Nice arts on the wall. Service was good. Unfortunately food was just ok. Great potential, chef just need some improvement. Tasted the octopus, spinach ravioli and spaghetti with clams.

Settepani was very close to the B&B in which we stayed during our visit to NY. The atmosphere was lovely. We were made to feel very welcome indeed- the owner was often present and would be solicitous and charming. The food-oh the food, it was just wonderful. My aubergine and tomato starter with caramelised onions finished with pine nuts and raisins was bliss- I'd have eaten it every night!(But I didn't because we had to try out the whole menu. The lamb- perfection. The seafood rissotto- yum yum. The freshly made gnocchi- beautiful. Desserts were fab as well, they are so often a let down but I think Settepanii may have begun as a bakery so that will explain the extremely high standard of eg the Cheesecake(light yet lush, hard to achieve - best I have ever tasted) and the lemon tart was sharp and rich with melt in the mouth pastry . A special mention for Robert- all the staff were lovely but Robert was extra specially kind and welcoming. Our trip to NY didn't quite meet our expectations, Happily Settepani's helped us enjoy our evenings eating their lovely grub!

We went for dinner, as we are staying in the Bronx and didn't want to travel to mid/lower Manhattan. We heard about Settepani from the New York pass, as they feature within the handbook - and give pass holders a free glass of wine when they purchase a meal. My boyfriend had the prix fixe and I had a main (stole some of his amazing dessert), he rated his meal meal as a five. My chicken was lovely, but as a fussy eater I found the menu a little limited. The service was great, all the staff were very attentive.

We found this place as we were strolling through the area. It is located at the corner of Malcom X Boulevard and 120th Street, although the address says Lenox Ave. (Maybe they intersect there somehow.) There are not many places to find a nice dinner within the few blocks of this area, and this place looked so nice from outside. We were not disappointed. The staff is so friendly and professional! They made us feel right at home. We even got to meet the owner! They have a nice wine list, and their menu features interesting and imaginative cuisine. My daughter had the pesto pasta, which was absolutely delicious. I had an artichoke stuffed chicken dish, which I didn't like as well. The chicken was a bit over cooked. If it had been more moist, it would have been better. The fennel soup had a nice spice to it. The portions are large, so we couldn't finish our food. The atmosphere in the restaurant was classy and intimate. It's just a lovely place. I would highly recommend it!

Ate here twice during our stay in Harlem and it was great both times. The pasta is very tasty and the service was good. Would definitely recommend it for a nice meal and an al fresco drink.

There was live jazz music which made me go inside in the first place. I enjoyed my evening in a geat atmosphere. I had lambchops which were excellent, cannoli also very good and home made. Nice list of cocktails. I would definitely recommend it.

The food was outstanding and the service was excellent. The atmosphere was calm and you could carrying on a conversation.

I've been quite a few times to this very nice neighborhood restaurant. I can remember years ago when it was just a place for coffee and pastries and the service was terrible. Now that they have a full menu and outdoor seating, it's a very, very nice place to go for brunch, lunch or dinner!

friendly and relaxed setting- food is simple and tasty. try the pasta w/ pesto and pine nut sauce

We live in the neighbor hood since more than 5 years, and buy bread and sweets at Settepani on a regular base. I already discovered a recent price increase and was quite upset that the coffee price got up significantly. But today when my husband bought a cheese danish and an almond croissant they hit the jack pot. The price was $5, this means a 30% price increase from formerly $3.50. I understand that there is some price increase do to the economic situation, but 30% - THIRTY PERCENT? I don't feel this is justified, as the quality of the products did not change. Sadly, it seems that the owners (Lea and her husband) got a bit greedy! So, good bye neighbor hood cafe, welcome overprized tourist place. We, will definetly not go and shop at Settepani anymore. Insted we will support other small cafe's that open recently in our neighbor hood.

Visited this bistro after arriving from JFK on our first day in NYC. Service was excellent and the food was very nice (soup/panini deal was tasty, filling and good value). We were made to feel very welcome, and was a lovely start to our trip.

Settepani is a warm, inviting place to catch up with neighbors and people watch from the patio during the summer. The food is hearty and consistently good. The staff is incredibly friendly. Free, live jazz on Thursday nights features top notch talent.

Meals are ok. Nice atmosphere inside. Slow service but the owner tries her best. A good local venue considering the neighborhood and the clientele it caters to. Harlem is still at it's crawling stage and settepani is one of the pioneers. It is a nice, little, very sterile looking local place. You would nit regret it nor you would write home about it. All said, it is a nice addition to Lenox Avenue. Thanks

A perfect combination of great testing food, ambiance and above all, a wonderful friendly service. Great place for a business lunch. Plan to go back when in the area.

AMAZING ITALIAN I FELT LIKE I JUST GOT BACK FROM ITALY !! One of the few places in the city that combines amazing quality food with service that makes you feel like family. A must visit !!

I ate outside with my son on a lovely Spring week day. The staff was very nice and accommodating. My only complaint is that I ordered a drink that had prosecco, grapefruit juice and campari and requested no campari. The manager tried to convince me that it was better with Campari and I wouldn't even taste it and I explained that I don't like the taste. Nonetheless they made the drink with Campari and when I didn't drink it they didn't offer to take it off the bill or replace it. I think the manager or waiter should have checked back to make sure I liked it since they deliberately ignored my preference. We enjoyed all the food even if they were beverage challenged. My son had fetuccini bolognese and I the exceptionally good house salad and the proscuitto and mozzarella flatbread.

Home made pizzas and desserts. Generous portions and friendly staff. Easy and nice atmosphere. Perfect for a drop in lunch.

we ate at this restaurant on our last night in New York. The food was fantastic and the service great. A great place to eat.

I was organizing a group dinner for 20+ people and wanted something where we could have our own space, enjoy a good meal, and have all participants - from different cities around the US - feel welcomed. Someone suggested Settepani to me, and I couldn't be happier with the results. We had our own space set apart just a bit from the other diners, so we could easily converse. The owners were great hosts, helping us to select the menu in advance, and providing us with a warm welcome the night of our event. The service staff were terrific, the meals delicious, and the three-piece jazz combo added just the right touch of very cool music. The prices were also very reasonable for NYC. It's easily accessible by subway or taxi. Prior to my group dinner, I arranged for a business lunch to check out the restaurant. Again - great meal and easy to have a conversation. Also enjoy the diverse crowd. Highly recommend it!

The four of us greatly enjoyed our meals sitting outdoors at the Settepani on a very hot Harlem summer night. The service was very prompt and friendly and the owner even came by for a quick chat as we finished eating. We had pasta dishes - gnocchi and linguini with clams - that were both extremely tasty. We highly recommend Settepani - good quality food and service at a very reasonable price.

A place in Harlem to dine or sit outside like you are not in NYC but experience good food from a couple of owners who represent Both Italy and Ethiopian culture merged

Met our NY friends for a boozy brunch in the sunshine. Our server was very patient as we got caught up over several carafes of mimosas and champagne. Once we finally ordered our meals were ready rather quickly, and we really enjoyed our selections. Our group had two of their delicious house burgers, shaken eggs with veggies, and an octopus salad with peas and potatoes. We were all very satisfied with our meals, and sent back empty plates.

The caprese appetizer was very large - enough for 3 with some left over. The branzino was also good, but a bit overcooked. The chicken was tasty but I was disappointed at the scarcity of eggplant - its just little bits in the sauce. Overall, a nice atmosphere in a good location without spending a fortune.

Cozy, clean place and friendly and very professional staff, everything was delicious. Tiramisu: exceptional!

Have had dinner there several times but we are running out of what to order. Some items on the menu not appealing those that were good the first time were just okay the next try. Service very nice. Would love to give it another try hopefully the chef has perfected the dishes.

We discovered the Settepani during a previous trip to New York, two years ago, as it was just opposite our B&B. The food proved delicious, so we came again - and again during a recent trip. Nothing has changed: perfectly Italian pasta (try the one with seafood, you won't regret it), superlative steak, very interesting starters too. Just one regret: last time we went, the tiramisu was too dry. Put more coffee, people! Otherwise, really great place, with excellent service.

Great baked goods! My absolute favorite is the mango mousse. Almond croissant also great. Can't wait to try the other menu items. And very excited to have fresh bread in the 'hood.

Very enjoyable meal in Harlem, all 4 meals were at a high standard and came out quickly. Really impressed with the service from all the waiters definitely the friendliest we found in New York. The owner is also very welcoming and likes to have a chat. Overall very nice meals and a good Atmosphere made it an enjoyable night.

We were visiting NYC and this place was just around the corner. Very friendly staff. We enjoyed some delicious bread to start, along with calamari. We each got a pasta dish and everyone was satisfied. Nice little place in Harlem.

We ate on a Wed evening about 5 pm. My wife's sister is 83 and lives about 10 blocks away in subsidized housing. She chose the restaurant and I picked up the tab. $105 for three of us plus the tip. Good for NYC. I am 78. We are from Michigan and are at the rv park in Croton-on-Hudson. I lived in Queens from 1940-1944. Have been to NYC World Trade Center on vacation before and after 9/11. I had never dined before in Harlem and admit minor concern for my wife (75) and I as we drove in from Croton (whew)! So parking: I was apparently lucky as I found a spot with no trouble on the block right around the corner from the restaurant. (Used a phone GPS.) My conclusion: at worst you might need to drive around the block a couple of times. My vehicle is a 21 ft Silverado pick-up. I found myself to be completely at ease walking to the restaurant and back after dinner. Lots of people hanging out... but why not on a warm sunny afternoon. While waiting for sister I observed 2 little girls with their mom -- using a construction structure as play equipment! Wow! Now the food: we eat out a lot. My salmon was cooked to perfection. I asked if they could serve me the grilled asparagus listed with another entree instead of the kale listed with the salmon: yes, of course! My wife had octopus: delicious -- she did not think of a to-go box it was so good. Sister had a steamed Italian entree -- not a scrap left either. My only "knock" would be the lack of a non-alcoholic beer. Driving 36 miles after dinner in NYC area traffic is not a good idea after drinking -- particularly at my age. The girls enjoyed both their first and second drinks, including the Sangria. The restroom was clean. The service was outstanding: unobtrusive but there when it should have been. Go and enjoy☺wish we could go again. Worth my 72 mile drive in NYC traffic.

We stayed nearby to Settapani on our trip to NYC. We wandered by on evening and sat outside for a glass of wine which made us decide to come back during their Thursday night jazz night - lovely food and great music. I would certainly come back.

My friend and I were staying at a B&B on 116th st. so we decided to try Settepani for dinner while we waited for our rooms. The design of the restaurant is quite nice as well as the outdoor seating area, which is why we were drawn to this particular spot. Essentially it was just a big service flop. -I asked for a bread basket. Our server brought olive oil & balsamic in a small dish and used tongs to give me one piece of bread, and then walked off with the basket. -Our waters sat empty for about 10-15 mins. -Nobody checked in to see how we were. -My dish of spaghetti was bland and needed some seasoning. After I finished I see the waiter grinding pepper on another customer's dish. -There was seriously maybe one other table inside the restaurant and outside was our two top, plus one other. There was no excuse for the level of poor service we received - hence no tip.

We were staying round the corner from this great restaurant - so good we ate there 4 nights out of the 5 nights we were staying in the area. Had the chance to taste most of the menu between the four of us -nothing disappointed . Friendly staff who were happy to chat when they had time - made a great impression on us. Thank you .

Settepani was a favorite spot for friends and I for many years. Today's service was unbelievably poor. We ordered three different times and no one seemed to be able to understand our order. We departed in frustration and unfed. Very discouraging. Ah sigh...

The staff were excellent. Decor and cleanliness could not be faulted from a customer viewpoint. Unfortunately the food was not up to scratch. Our starter, prosciutto on a thin pizza type base was good but the main courses were disappointing. My pasta with mushrooms was bland and dull. My wife's fish was seriously poor. She felt that the vegetables had been pre-cooked and reheated. They were limp and watery and the plate was cold which affected the overall dish. I have reviewed Barawine which is on the opposite side of the street. Settepani needs to raise itself to that standard, the prices are similar. We went to Settepani for a change of menu. One other item that we did not like was the TV in the corner. This is not appropriate for a restaurant. It is probably there for the bar customers but if it is necessary there should be a screen. The constant flickering in the corner of ones eye is annoying.

Casual elegant atmosphere, attentive and polite service. Excellent dishes. Presentation is understated but pleasant.

A really friendly place, the staff always great, lamb chops were superb, great Jazz night. Hope to back one day.

Maybe it was the late hour, maybe it was the surprise location, maybe it was the friendly staff, maybe it was the gracious owner, or maybe just the delicious food, but Settepani was my favorite restaurant during a week-long stay in New York. We stopped in late in the evening once when they had stopped, but the staff was so welcoming that we went back and ate there on two different occasions. Everything we tried was excellent, and after only two visits we were welcomed like friends. Close to the 116th and 125th stops on the red 2 or 3 train, so easy to get to by publuc transit or cab.

Food is ok. Service is crazy slow. Cool sidewalk spot for those who want to see or be seen.

Leah and Nino have been our friends for many years and they work hard to produce one of the best Mediterranean cuisines in the area. We love going there with friends and family and we're grateful for the wonderful job they have done as part of the current Harlem Renaissance. We could not be happier having Settipani so close to home!

I was in NYC for a week with my daughter. We stopped at Settepani for dinner one night. Let me begin by saying that the restaurant is lovely. White table clothes, lovely decor, candle light...but also very relaxed. I had been here once before on a night when they had a DJ and love music. It was great fun! The crowd is nice - professionals, academia, families. But the food....wow! My daughter had the pasta with bolognese sauce and she loved it. It was plentiful and freshly made. I had the baked sole with capers and raisins, side of mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus. Delicious, with a special little sauce on the sole. It was as good as the baked salmon I had the first time I went. Coffee and desserts are fantastic! For dessert my daughter had cheese cake (wonderful) and I had the mango mousse cake (beautiful and sweet). Owners are nice and service is terrific! Glad we went.

Food was mediocre and pricey for what we got. There's a lot of great Italian places in the city so I set the bar fairly high, it seemed like Settepani was just going through the paces with their menu. Many of the things we tried seemed to not be made from scratch but bought in bulk likely. Our server was completely clueless about the menu and asked baffling questions like 'what temperature do you want your chicken'? Yikes!

The best happy hour price for beer and wine. Near an express train and not far from Central Park. However, I would eat somewhere else.

We were a party of three vegetarians. On asking the staff if they could do an evening vegetarian meal we were offered a vegetable sandwich! On asking a second time later in the day the manager said she would ask the chef so we booked a table for that evening. On arrival we were expected but the chef had not prepared anything special and we were given the choice of the starters or a pizza. I ordered a mushroom lasagne. After waiting for quite a while the pizza and salad arrived and the waiter said to me "shall I bring you a plate?" I said no thank you as I was waiting for my own meal. Unfortunately the waiter had not ordered my meal and went away to do so but came back and said there was no lasagne left so I took a plate and shared some pizza. The waiter then returned and said they had found a portion and would I like it? In the end it was not very nice. I cannot vouch for this restaurant but it might be better for regular eaters!

Cozy sidewalk cafe and a beautiful indoor dining room. This place was once a "place for crumpets" but has transformed itself into one of Harlem nice dining rooms.

Very good italian food. A host with class. Ate there the first night of our 4 Day stay in NY. Had great live jazz music. Came back all the other days just to have their coffee and deserts.

great pasta dishes and selection of other meats. servers very professional and very attentive. i have only visited once but will definitely be back in future!

Perhaps an unusually bad day for the Settepani team, but in all honesty, one of the worst dining experiences we've had. To start, the service was disastrous: not only was it unbelievably slow (even by leisurely "European" standards), but at times rude, always chaotic, and more often than not error-prone. The food was at best mediocre, and in one case just plain bad, with the eggs having a suspiciously fishy/greasy aftertaste as if they'd been fried up in a dirty pan. Worst of all, though, was the coffee: not only did we wait much too long to get it, but our drinks (caffe lattes) tasted like water. My companion thought it literally the worst she's ever had, particularly given that Settepani clearly stylizes itself as a little bit of understated Mediterranean ambience in the heart of Harlem and, as was obvious, caters to a very large number of European tourists underway to see the area churches. As if this wasn't bad enough, the owner's response was at best questionable, and in my opinion just unacceptable: insisting that the restaurant takes great pride in its coffee, she offered to make us two more cups to go as a replacement, and while she knocked off the price of the first round, it was clear we were expected to pay for the second! Any reasonable management -- even in New York and certainly elsewhere in the U.S. -- would not only apologize, but offer replacement coffee for free, no strings attached. For a short weekend trip to NYC, this got our Sunday off to a bad start. Do *not* be fooled by Settepani's Mediterranean pretense and corner bustle. Give it a miss. In fact, do yourself a favor and check out Café Latte, just on the other side of Lenox Avenue -- better coffee, better eggs, better vibe. No contest.

We went here twice in our visit to NYC. It is a lovely quiet place with good food. Excellent risotto. We enjoyed everything we ordered. They had run out of some of the alcohol required to make a negroni which my husband really fancied and unfortunately when we returned later in the week they were still out.

I love this place for brunch, although I do wish they would get some gluten-free bread! Wonderful service, comfortable atmosphere, I've been back many times.

This comfortable, friendly Italian with modern feel and taste is worth a visit even if you're not otherwise in Harlem. Fresh ingredients are thoughtfully and creatively prepared. Excellent espresso is a fine finishing touch.

It was more than an office birthday party. Our colleague holds his annual birthday event here and now I know why. The ambiance is graciously casual with a flair. Elegant dining at its best.

This restaurant made me nostalgic for the trattoria I frequented while stationed in Italy. Excellent presentation, good service, and best of all, all our meals were prima. We enjoyed meeting locals who frequent the restaurant for drinks and small bits.

The best meal in New York, excellent food, excellent wines and super desserts to say the least, all with the kindness of the staff and the owner, Mr. Nino who welcomed us with sincere warmth. Don't miss a walk in Harlem and brunch at Settepani if you visit New York

Settepani is one of the pioneer restaurants of "new gentrified Harlem." It used to be a bistro/ bakery, wooden tables, parisian wooden chairs, fresh pastries and deserts. It was nice. Than it appeared to me as the owner a) changed b) thought they could do " better" so after a several days of " renovation' Settapani has gotten a new, formal look, white table clothes and dressed up waiters. The look and the vibe have changed but the place hasn't become better. From cool, relaxed neighborhood place they became an "upscale" ( they wish) Mediterranean/italian restaurant. Hmm not quite. Well, given that I lived in Harlem for some time, I gave them chances anyway, but almost every visit became like a joke- joke with the white clothes. For instance - once I wanted to order something with mozzarella - the waitress told me they didn't have it ( hint : there is a supermarket a few blocks up so event the bus boy could have ran to get it - but that idea apparently didn't occur toa nyon) At the same occasion instead of mozzarela ( that they didn't have) I ordered proscuitto panini, but to my astonish- they didn't have proscuitto that day either. I am not sure how can someone go under " Italian anything "allowing himself not to have mozzarella and proscuitto?! I haven't experienced that yet even in much less " upscale " italian joints. Being Harlemite as I was- and not too many choices left for " italian" fine dining in the neighborhood- my husband and I stopped by on the different occasion for a dinner. Luckily we got all of our food ( which was OK ) but we experienced a funny wine situation. We were handed very elegantly the wine list- but 3 different wines that were listed and we tried to get ( first was a choice , 2 following were alternatives = they didn't have) And that all happened while our server patiently waited for us to make ANOTHER choice only to tell us that didn't have it :))) If I thought that this wasn't funny, I would have probably ended up being mad. So why 3 stars. At the end this is is an OK place. If you are in and desire to chill out in " italian " restaurant p in Harlem it will be OK for you to so here. You will ended up with decent food experience and probably even a glass of a good wine. (if they have it) If you are a tourist - going to Harlem because you want to do typical Harlem thing- than I would rather recommend Harlem staple soulfood places: Amy Rooths, Sylvias or Spoonbread too. If typical Soulfood is not your cup of tea- that Red Rooster will be better alternative.

Extremely happy with the whole experience had with Settepani. The staff were amazing, the service was top notch and most importantly the food was delicious. Would happily return again.

As a native New Yorker, I have visited Harlem a lot over the years. In 2000, Settepani opened and I stumbled into it intrigued by the idea of an Italian restaurant in Harlem. Since then, it has become my favorite hangout "uptown" whether for a drink at the bar or for dinner. Frequented by the locals, it manages to combine the simple and elegant. Great food moderately priced and really great unpretentious service.

My friends and I came across this restaurant by chance, and are so glad we did. They offer a prix fixe for $25 which is a bargain, including 2 glasses of champagne and coffee! The staff are friendly and helpful, the ambience is good and the restaurant itself is very well laid out.

Had a great dinner with the best Sirloine Steak ever. Good service, great food. Dessert wase huge and impressive. Highly recommended.

This family owned restaurant in Harlem offers some interesting italian classic dishes. Menu based on seasons for fresh food. I liked pappardelle dish and ossobuco. Jazz entertainment. A relaxing dining experience! I Recommend it! - Daniele Matteo, Editor. #DrGraybeard

Great place!!!

We were headed back to our room, needed coffee. I think they were about to close, but the staff was very gracious and made coffee for us to go! It was delicious. I was very impressed and wish we had time to stop back for a meal on their patio. Maybe next time!

Walked to this restaurant on a cold windy day.. It was a warm and comforting ambience. The owner smiles and invites you in.. The decor is quaint , and food is simply superb .. Veg and non veg. Portions are large . Enjoyed the experience.

We had a very good evening here. We only had a main course each because we have found that serving sizes in New York are huge.My braised rabbit dish and my wife's steak were both excellent. The steak was the best that we have encountered during a month's travelling in France and Croatia. The dish was let down a bit by the soggy, unappetising fries. All the dishes we saw being served to other customers looked good. The service was friendly and efficient. The prices aren't cheap but we probably think that because our meals in Croatia and France were such good value. I wouldn't make a special trip to eat here but it is worth trying if you are in the area.

Absolutely fresh and delicious arugula salad with possibly the world's best balsamic vinegar! The pizza had tasty toppings: zucchini, prosciutto, basil and cheese, however parts of the dough were not cooked thoroughly and were gluey and pasty. Marvelous friendly, prompt service; redecorated and spare interior, even with few customers it was NOISY because of the non-sound absorbing flooring, walls and ceiling. Very au courant decor but uncomfortably loud.

Pricey, but worth it. Good wine list. Dined here twice--indoor seating and outdoor seating are both pleasant.

Extremely disappointing experience. We visited for brunch around 11AM on a Sunday morning. Three of us stood by the entrance waiting to be seated. Not only were we left standing there, no-one had the courtesy to even acknowledge us (when they had seen us waiting). The apathy was palpable. So discourteous. We were with a guest from out of town who was as shocked as we were. Won't be returning.

We went to this restaurant on our last night in New York It was amazing The staff Vinnie Abdul We’re so so good We met the owner She was lovely Highly recommended

Visited Twice while staying in New York.First visit was for a sit down Meal. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere was added to by the live Jazz singer who was on that night. the owners were also dinning there that evening and chatted to guests to enquitre that they were having an enjoyable evening. My partner and I then went back for drinks happy hour and had a selection of Bar snacks. The staff were extremely friendly as were other locals who we chatted to for several hours. Well worth a Visit

The restaurant is in Harlem at a convenient, safe location near the trains. The food was amazing - I had trout (very good) with a orange and fennel salad (very good). Desert was an orange cheesecake (excellent). Service was great and the night I went they had Brazilian music. I live across the street and was eager to go and I was happy I did. Well done.

Our Airbnb host suggested this place for dinner and we are so glad we followed up. This was one of the nicest places we ate during our visit to nyc. My branzino with lemon was well prepared with a side of julienned squash and a puff pastry of veggies. My husband’s seafood and pasta came in parchment and had a generous selection of mixed seafood. Good bread accompanied the meal. Setting was comfortable with courteous and friendly service. We were staying in Harlem but really, if you want a nice dinner where you can enjoy the food in a setting where you can carry on a conversation, it’s worth the taxi ride from elsewhere. Our only misgiving : The kitchen was slowish during our visit. We were ok since we weren’t in a rush. Just give yourself enough time.

We live near-by and go frequently for lunch & dinner. Atmosphere extremely friendly due in great part to caring family owner/operator management. Seasonal sidewalk tables are appealing & great fun. There's good jazz & small combo music on Thursday evenings.

We ate here once, had drinks 3 times and walked out once as we had waited for 15 minutes to have our drinks order taken and there were only a dozen customers in the place. Half price beer and house wine from 3 to 6 but some days they don't put out the sign. They have a great singer and band here some nights.

I read reviews about Settepani and being that I live in Harlem, I thought I would try the place out. I kept thinking that I visited this place on a busy day, Easter Sunday so perhaps it was a bit busy then normal on a Sunday brunch hour. Seriously, it was one of my worst dinning experience ever. To start, I made reservation from their website. I got there and wasn't sure where to stand or who to speak to, to be seated. So naturally I went to the front door and waited. The owner and staff never acknowledge me. The owner at one point ask us to move from the door because it was a high traffic area between the inside area and outdoor eating area. My boyfriend had to chase the owner down to let him know that we had reservation and he completely ignored us as if we were lying. After having he to go check it, he finally decided to sit us. When he sat us he never returned. We waited over 20 minutes to be given a menu and water. Mean while, a party that sat down a minute after us was given menus right away, and service right away. So after twenty minutes of waiting, we placed our order. We didn't get bread until 20 minutes after placing our order. We waited another 45minutes to an hour before getting our meal. Mean while, other parties around us are receiving their meals who have sat down after us. All the time no one is checking in on us, asking if we were ok, how are we being treated, but I'm noticing the owner asking parties next to us these questions. It was really upsetting. So our food finally arrived and by this point the brunch crowd has thinned out, and still to the end, the service was still horrible, from start to finish. No one and I mean no one ever apologized for the service that was given. The food was okay, but seriously the lack of service made it hard to appreciate the food in any way. It was nothing to keep me feeling like I had to come back to it again. Nice place, nice decor, but you can do without.

Enjoyable but bit expensive, good outlook and good food, just felt a bit pricey. Draught Beers were great! Good service

We were in Harlem and looking for a place to eat. We walked by this restaurant, checked out the menu and decided to stop in and eat. Our party of 7 was very warmly greeted and seated. Our server was extra friendly. I had a hard time finding something on the menu I wanted so I decided to order the steak. However, when the server told us of the specials I decided to go with the Rigatoni and shrimp. It was sooo delicious. They should really put this on their menu. If they do, I would go all the time!

Nice venue with outdoor seating and quieter seating with tablecloths inside so you get to pick. Lots of choices of appetizers and mains which are very good and a cut above the norm for flavours. Fairly quick service and food delivery. Good range of beers on tap. Wines as well. Recommended.

Good food, reasonably priced. Good jazz nights. Friendly staff. Not a very big menu but what was on it was good. Great steaks!

Excellent Quality food and super courteous staff also because we had a dog with us Price quality was excellent by NYC standards

I go to this place for dinner weekly. The pastas are delicious and the wines and beer selection, though small, is very nice. The brunch is very simple but still very nice. The service is really nice and the restaurant is very nicely decorated.

Settepani has a wonderful brunch. If you are in the neighborhood, definitely get brunch here. Their dinner is a little uneven in terms of food. Some plates are wonderful, others are so-so, and overall I think their food is too pricey for dinner. The service is very spotty as well. One of their servers has been there forever, and he's wonderful. The rest seem to cycle in and out quickly, and while always friendly, sometimes the service is very slow. It's a great neighborhood spot, however. On a Sunday morning, there are few places I'd rather be!

Settepani's is an amazing restaurant. The owners are incredible people who make sure all guests get the best culinary experience. If you go for brunch, I recommend trying the French toast. For dinner, try the Spaghetti Di Mare or the Ossobuco. They also have the longest happy hour and great drinks! 🥂

We ate here twice, food was ok, rather pricey for what you get. Second time we had to wait a very long time ! So I would suggest to go elsewhere when it's busy and don't go two times in a row!

We had great food in this lovely Italian restaurant in Harlem. We would recommend the food and the venue to anyone visiting the area.

Went here after a long hot day of travelling from further upstate. A request for a table for two was greeted by fairly cold service. The two waiters did their best to ignore our existence at best, perhaps because they were rammed to the rafters (with empty spaces). My colleague asked for some bread as a side to the meal and was offered a single slice pompously 'tonged' onto a plate. The waiter seemed incredulous when he asked for a little more... The set up is attempting a fine dining experience which granted we were not necessarily looking for at that moment but the quality of the food was lacking in that department regardless. My chard/ricotta ravioli was a touch undercooked and thus a little cold internally and my friends spaghetti a little overcooked with a sauce that was garlic heavy and too sweet to feel a true tomato bite. Neither came with any other texture or taste to compliment the dish and we were left wanting for the price. They did have a jazz combo playing, but sadly they were inside, inaudiable and playing to a grand total on 5 people (3 of whom were staff). Nevermind...

Great outdoor seating for a pretty day. Overall food and service was great. However, food portions were considered very small if you were hungry.

Brilliant! We were personally welcomed and got to know the owner who in her pown right has had incredible experiences. the food was different italian/African influenced and very tasty.

The place where we intended to dine this night turned out to be closed, so we had to make a quick decision. Based on proximity and some Internet reviews, we picked Settepani, and, man, was it a great choice! Quietly elegant, but not hoity-toity, this place concentrates on food and service, and they really know what they're doing. I had the eggplant timballo (fantastico!), and my girlfriend had the butternut squash ravioli, which she really liked. We also shared a side of sauteed green beans, which were done to perfection. The bread served with dinner (yum) comes from the restaurant's own bakery. When I asked the waiter about the herbs in my dish, he had the chef come out and chat with us. In short, this was one of my best dining experiences ever. It reminded me of Italy, which, in most respects, is the best thing you can say about an Italian place in the US.
Excellent Lunch in Harlem
We wandered in here while waiting for our Airbnb host Great food the potato leek soup was excellent Lots of choices for vegan/vegetarians and a nice wine list The service was good too We will eat here again
