Neighborhood gem

Terrific neighborhood Turkish restaurant. Food, service and ambience are nice and their lunch specials are a great value. We eat here all the time.

Why cant there be more vegetarian options??

By Swati Mark |

As a vegetarian, we find Turkish cuisine always tricky - the options are often limited to one eggplant dish, one okra dish and a couple of appetizers that include grape leaf and hummus. Always a large selection of non-veg kebabs but not even one veggie kebab. We found nothing different at this restaurant either. Are there really only these 4 vegetarian options in all of Turkish cuisine? Or is it just sloppy service with no concern to 31 percent of the world population considered vegetarian? On the positive side, the grape leafs we had here, were possibly the most succulent grape leafs we have ever had at any Turkish restaurant. Service was average, nothing worth writing home about. Vegetarians can easily skip it - unless they love Turkish okra/ eggplant/ hummus!

Yum! Recommend

Went here after seeing Spamilton at the Triad Theater. The aroma pulled us in. The food was great, as was the service. Will go back if ever in the area.

Excellent Restaurant, Excellent Dinner

By frap028 |

This is an excellent Turkish restaurant nestled in NYC's Upper West Side. A great find, which a relative booked for dinner during a recent visit. As a group we enjoyed the mixed appetizer. I had a ground lamb entree, with a flavorful dark Turkish beer. The prices are reasonable, wait staff were attentive and pleasant, and restaurant and bathrooms clean. Overall, this checked all the boxes of an excellent dinner experience.

Good food, good atmosphere

By Philly |

Seven Hills is an unpretentious neighbourhood restaurant that served up good food in a nice atmosphere at reasonable prices. My wife and I both had the jumbo shrimp plate. The shrimps, though hardly jumbo, were quite tasty. It came with salad and rice, both flavoured nicely. The restaurant was quiet and attractive. We left quite content.

Turkish Neighborhood Delight

By nscheuer |

We shared the large assorted appetizers. My recollection is that in the past the charge was less and you had a greater assortment of appetizers. That being said the 5 different appetizers were all very good. The warm bread, much thicker than pita, was excellent. We shared a Lahmacun - Turkish style Pizza - which was ample. In the past I thought it was more flavorful but this one was acceptable. One can get a perfectly nice meal here for about $20 without a beverage. It is good enough for me to want to return as it is in my neighborhood, but not good enough for me to want to eat there again in the next month as my neighborhood offers many wonderful choices. The atmosphere was very pleasant & the waitress very attentive. The noise level was acceptable.

Feels Like Istanbul

By travlintoots |

We ate here on a cold February evening but were brought back to Istanbul. We started with hot bread (yum!) and EVOO. Our appetizer was a lamb lamejune. Our main entrees included baby lamb shank, manti (lamb filled raviolis) and lamb gyros. Service was good enough and friendly.

How is this place not packed?

By Cyberhwk |

We found this place via the TripAdvisor app. TripAdvisor wins again. We were trying to eat inexpensively during our time in New York. Seven Turkish Grill offers a lunch special of an Appetizer, an Entree, and a complimentary glass of wine for $12.99. This is a deal that couldn't be beat at home, nevertheless New York City. The appetizer was a sort of yogurt that tasted more like a sour cream dip than any sort of yogurt. I saved a bit to add it to my main entree, I chose the lamb. The food was very good and decent sized portions for $13. There was only one other table at 11:30. I have no idea why. Great food at a great price. A great choice especially for lunch.

Best Turkish food I've had outside of Istanbul!

By Eric H |

Terrific Food, Friendly staff, and a great experience. Brought 8 people and all loved it! Tnx Seven's!

Found this by accident..

By KMB33 |

We were going to a play on this street (You've Got Hate Mail - go, you will love it!) and happened on this restaurant - it is very genuine and the coffee was amazing. A good clue for an ethnic restaurant is whether ex pats go there - which they do. Would definitely go again.

A Delicious Surprise

By goodmealseeker |

We happened to wander into Turkish Grill on 72nd Street and decided to choose from their prix fix menu. The chopped salad was fresh with a light dressing, and topped with feta. I loved it. The falafels were equally enjoyable- crispy and tasty. The hot flatbread was a perfect complement. I will definitely return.

Good Turkish food and good value

By Barry17149021 |

I went with a local friend who frequents this restaurant. I was quite pleased with the dish I had. It was a kind of Turkish ravioli. It was in a tomato yogurt sauce and very ample. They serve a warm kind of sesame bread and olive oil to start that was also very good. The price was right and the service very good. A warm neighborhood restaurant.

Great food, spectacular lunch special!!

By purewaves |

We used a $25 off of $45 coupon from http://restaurant.com today, and it turned out to be a pretty good experience. The food was outstanding, probably the best Turkish food I've had in the last few months, and the service was very efficient as well. You can get a mixed kebab platter with any 2 kebabs you want for about $18 and it comes with salad, roasted vegetables, rice, and bread. It's really a huge meal. We decided to get 2 of them to sample 4 kinds of kebab (Doner, Adana, Shish, and Beyti) and we also got the Ezme salad (much like a Turkish salsa) to boot. The flavors were spot on. Everything had that 'right off the grill' flavor, was succulent, and extremely juicy. We also got a knafe for dessert which was hot, fresh, and delicious. Total with the coupon was $30 (rather than $55), plus they add in an 18% tip on the full amount, so it was $39 and change total. I have to say, $40 for everything is a good deal. I'm not so sure if it was $65 it would have been that great of a value; but if you use a coupon or get the half price lunch special, this place can't be beat.

Delightful

By KARENSK_12 |

Well situated restaurant with the usual selection of Mediterranean very well prepared. Tiny outside tables but the service was good and attentive- dishes were easy to share -

Interesting atmosphere

By David R |

We really enjoyed the food here (the smoky eggplant dish was absolutely delicious), but the server was just plain clued out. Seemed every time we had a question (an ingredient, origin of a beer) she didn't know, but more importantly, she bore an attitude that suggested she didn't care.

Very Good

By Meir M |

Turkish food is NOT French food and cant be ranked at the same criteria. We found this restaurant with nice food, not heavy, well prepared and enjoyed all the dishes. Will come again.

Excellent; highly recommend

By Emily C |

An all-around great experience: food, atmosphere, wait staff, and manager. Outdoor seating was delightful and the goings on of 72nd St provided nice entertainment.

Great Lunch deal in Manhattan

By Jim and Julie M |

On the west side, looking for a place for lunch we saw a sign on the sidewalk for the lunch special at Seven's. A great price for appetizers, main course and even a glass of wine or soft drink. A bread basket was also included. The food was wonderful and the service was great. Highly recommend Seven's for Mediterranean fare!

A hidden gem

By Bob H |

This is a small place but very good food. The lentil soup was very good and the grape leaves were the best i have never had. The prices were very reasonable. It was not crowded and there was no wait, although we were there at 2PM after the lunch hour.

Good and simple food

By OysteinBuran |

The lamp saute was excellent! Maybe not the most exciting platter beside the lamp. Service was very nice.

Good food

By nektariosc30 |

I was very pleased with this restaurant. The fare is typical Turkish and the prices are reasonable, especially for NYC.

Good for drinks

By Karen M |

We stopped in out of curiosity since we were upstairs at a play (The Triad). Attractive spot, sat at the bar, had drinks. Friendly service.

Easily overlooked, but worth a visit

By DylanWadol |

Like other reviewers, we happened upon this restaurant looking for somewhere to eat before a show. We had cacik and ezme to start and each had a gyro for the main course. All were excellent, and the bread was wonderful. The only downside was that the beer (Efes of course!) wasn't quite cold enough.

What a shame

By GECM37 |

As anticipated, wonderful food. A miracle to have potable, even palatable Turkish wine. The service was, however, desultory. The room was either too hot or too cold. The plates were too cold, defusing the flavor of the beautifully prepared meats.

Good Turkish food,reasonably priced.

By Julie L |

We've been to Seven several times. It's a great local resturant with consistently good food and good service. Turkish food is a great change from the many Chinese, Italian and Japanese neighborhood places. The portions are abundant and food well prepared.

Good Food

By kathycV6399HQ |

The food here is more Turkish than Greek, but very good. We ate here before we went to the show at the Triad Theater above the restaurant.

Great Turkish food

By Geniegirl1 |

My husband and I have been there a few times, as well as ordered delivery from this restaurant. The food is great with decent portions. I love the lentil soup and the lamb gyro. We always share a baklava for dessert. I think that prices are decent for New York. We will definitely continue to go there.

Good Turkish food at a reasonable price point (at least for the UWS)

By jlm2053 |

My husband and I really enjoy this place. Authentic Turkish food at a price that, though not cheap, is far more reasonable than many on the Upper West Side. The vegetarian entrees options are a little lacking - but I find that if I compile a meal from a few appetizers, I never leave unsatisfied. Their red lentil soup, incidentally, is probably one of the best I've had anywhere (though the absolute best is Ayhan's Shish Kebab in Port Washington, NY!) Once my husband discovered the manti ("Turkish Ravioli"), he's had a hard time ordering anything else, he loves it so much. Bottom line: If you're a tourist, I might not go out of my way to eat here. But if you're in the neighborhood and in the mood for Turkish cuisine in a nice atmosphere and reasonable price (again for the UWS/NYC) - then you can't go wrong here.

Excellent food

By MsBizWiz2 |

Excellent food, nice atmosphere, good service--and the price is right! II particularly liked their Kofte kobob (on a bed of rice and some veggies, the zucchini pancakes with a bit of yogurt on the side. (Unrelated, there is a small theater upstairs. Worth checking their programs.)

A taste of Istanbul on the upper west-side!

By Mike902 |

What I love about dining out in Manhattan is to combine my waist-line with my appetite for culture whenever possible, or more specifically, a combination of a lovely meal with a live-show. and that is exactly what I had in mind recently at Seven's Turkish Restaurant on 72nd Street, between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues. The Triad theatre-venue is right above and 'Spamilton, An American Parody", is playing to packed houses - a perfect double-whammy, in the best way possible, and a review to come! Appropriately named 'Seven" - maybe taking its name from the "seven wonders of the world", I guarantee you will not be disappointed by the name, service, or menu. My personal recommendations were the Yogurt Soup (Yayla), Falafel appetizer and a Shish or Doner Lamb Kebab. Combination Kebabs were also on the menu. Ending with a Yogurt Shake or a Turkish coffee. Just close your eyes and imagine being transported to Istanbul. The staff are welcoming and the chef has a great menu in store and , relatively inexpensive to boot. Ask for Bahar or Tony, they are superb ambassadors for Seven's. ###

Good Food, Good Prices

By passionate-gardener |

I ate here tonight before seeing a fabulous show, Spamilton at the Triad Theater which is above the restaurant. Our waitress was charming and our food was delicious. We were both happy with our dishes, diced cucumber, tomato, and onion salad with kabobs. The falafels which we added were tasty.

Excellent

By Oren W |

Excellent, homemade fresh food. Everything we ordered was excellent. Service was great and the atmosphere is very nice.

Not good

By ramo1974 |

The boss of the restaurant was in the entrance of the restaurant but not welcoming us or any guests. We started and ended with a soup as the soup already told a lot of the quality of the upcoming food. The soup was not warm and taste wise the worst turkish soup I've ever had. We agree with my wife to leave the restaurant just after the soup as we didn't want to be surprised with more untasty food. I would not recommend this restaurant at all.

Good Turkish Food

By NikaJunie |

I come here on weekdays for lunch and usually have one of the two-course specials. They are not as busy as they seem to be on evenings and weekends, so the service is attentive. The food is quite good and meets with the approval of a demanding Turkish friend who often eats with me. Options are diminishing in this neighborhood, probably due to high rents, so I hope Seven’s can hold on. The dining room is pleasant and, in the middle of the day, downright tranquil.

Better than average affordable food with attentive service.

By Marcos H |

Pleasant large restaurant though the decoration is rather monotonous, nondescript and with a few tacky touches. Tables are of adequate size with clean tablecloths and comfortable chairs. Service is friendly and efficient. My favorite meal here consists of: Karisik Mezeler (a plentiful assortment of cold appetizers like hummus, aubergin, tabuleh and the like), Iskembe (tripe soup) and Arnavut Cigeri (breaded liver cubes.) Sometimes I substitute the last two with either a Kofte Kebab or a lamb shank. I usually drink Efes, a good turkish beer. This dinner comes to around $50. Highly recommended.

Don't expect fast service

By mkr502 |

Only eat here if you don't mind waiting 55 min between finishing your salads and appetizers and being served your main course. There were only two other tables of people dining beside us. When we asked where our dinners were after waiting 45 min, we were told they do a brisk delivery business. No apologies for the extreme delay. Apparently they don't staff their kitchen to accommodate actual in restaurant diners as well as take-out.

Nice place

By Gunz |

I thought this was a nice place and the food was good. Nothing amazing, but worth revisiting. The prices were very good, they had interesting Turkish beer and I thought our waitress was very pleasant. They now have outdoor seating, which I always like, but at this location I wouldn't feel comfortable sitting outside. I would recommend for good for and low prices.

Good Choice!

By GreenUnicorn |

We had a party of eight for lunch before the Nutcracker at Lincoln Center. We were a bit early, but they let us come in and then seated us. Hummus and their homemade bread were absolutely delicious. Our kabobs were grilled well , and the portion was generous for the price. Service was attentive. They were especially nice when my 93 1/2 year old father-in-law fell asleep and we had difficulty waking him up. If we were in that neighborhood again, I would definitely go back to Seven's.

Simple decor relaxing atmosphere Excellent food!!

By PatBrach |

Family style dining, very unasumming but the food absolutely delicious!! Very friendly staff. I will definately be back !

Good dinner

By CdeV2304 |

Very nice this restaurant, good Turkish food. We had a starter and some bread. We shared the main course and that was ok. Excellent lamb and fresh salads, good to go there.

Not Seeing What the Other Reviewers Saw, At All

By BDR0se |

Well, I was encouraged by the reviews, but no, the portions are NOT large. The octopus was good, yes, but at $13, I've had MUCH larger portions at various greek places in the city. One tentacle, not a huge one, and a lot of onions. Very disappointed in that portion size. The combo kebab also was disappointingly small, not much beef. 2 lamb chops, which were under-seasoned. And my partner asked for salad or veggies instead of rice with her 6 not-jumbo shrimp, and they refused, even if there was a charge. So much for diabetics there. Will not be back, and don't trust the other reviews.

Excellent Turkish cuisine. Friendly staff

By Robert P |

A large selection of Turkish dishes. One of better New York Turkish restaurants. The shepherd's salad, the stuffed cabbage, and the various lamb dishes have all been very good.

Great Little Place!

By nycbookwriter |

The food here is a welcomed retreat from the mundane. The variety of Turkish fare, traditional to more high end creations for a NYC market, is plentiful. My husband, a non adventurous sort on foods, loves the pide (essentially the Turkish version of pizza) and for me (who is allergic to red pepper) the staff and chef will either tell me if can't be done or make a special batch without spices. Yes, we have gone about six times! The Efes is always good, and the wine selection (of Turkish varieties, of course) is nothing short of wonderful. Not too much, not too little . . . remember when wandering up the block that this place doesn't have a flashy street view so it is easy to miss. But once you find, you won't be sorry. Not to mention, this is a great, and I mean great, little meal after a day or afternoon in Central Park. Just a quick mosey of a walk over! The staff is attentive, and after dinner a stroll along Amsterdam is a perfect and poetic way to end the meal.

Good Turkish food

By 551melm |

We went there with Turkish friends. The kabobs were incredibly good, as were the "cigars." The service was good, the ambiance lovely, and the food was good. We will go back there when we are in the neighborhood.

seven's love for food is in his food...

By selcukny |

Seven is a chef that mainly specializes on breads. Breads in Turkish culture can not be simplified and Seven had mastered it. He worked with local cooks from Karadeniz to master the dough and he fires the best of the best breads ( for lack of a better description, let's say similar to pizza) out of his tiny oven. Pides are very very thin crust boat shaped breads stuffed with meat, cheese, soujuk, turkish pastrami, eggs or any combination you would like. the food comes to your table looking and smelling so good, it almost feels a shame to eat it. complete work of art. Lahmajuns are perfectly beautiful as well, served with tomatoes, onions, parsley and sumac and lemon slices to make your very own wrap as you go. His mains that are mostly kebabs are nice also, but he is such a master at the breads and pides that , i would skip the kebabs altogether and go for a "pastirmali pide" thin bread carefully stuffed with Turkish pastrami and kasseri cheese. do it once and you will be addicted. for dessert, try the milks like rice or almond pudding. nice trattoria style tables and a staff eager to please, this neighnorhood place shines on the upper westside's bars row on amsterdam avenue. strongly recommended to any foodie, families, and couples. Lunch special is a steal! Lunch special is a steal ! yes, it is!!!

Not bad

By MyThoughts_10 |

I had heard a really good review from a co-worker who lived in the area so I decided to give this place a try. The inside atmosphere was cozy and was busier than I expected. There is a nice space between tables - enough such that you don't completely have to hear what your neighbors say. The meat was alright, but I really enjoyed the rice the dish came with. I am not sure if I need to go to this place again... unless I am craving the rice ofcourse!

Inviting place on a frigid New York night...

By NYTraveller_7 |

Neighborhood Turkish restaurant...very pleasant staff, and attentive service...the food, from mixed appetizers, to the entrees, was very nice and filling...the mozzarella/tomato pide was an interesting dish...worth a visit among the many eating places on the West Side...

Excellent Turkish food

By AaronNY |

I've been to many Mediterranean restaurant, and it is rare to find a restaurant that excels in both appetizers and main dishes like this one. Beside their expertly prepared dishes, their home made bread is also a standout. Service is friendly and the restaurant is quiet. It definitely deserves to be much busier!

Wish I could like it more

By John A |

I can't lie the place was good. I wouldn't steer anybody away. That being said the food was just good and not great, the service was very slow (granted when we entered the entire restaurant filled up all at once) and the wine pour with the lunch special was tiny. If it were somewhere outside of NYC I would even consider going back and giving it another try but it is NYC and there are too many great places to consider going back.

Great experience

By GilBagnell |

Nice not to have to visit a hole in the wall to get good everyday cooking. Most of the dishes here are grilled - hence the name -- and they are interesting and tasty. Place has a nice fresh, clean, well appointed look to it and service is friendly and helpful. Food was wall prepared and full of character. Turkish bread hits the table out of the oven. As you would expect, lots of lamb and fish, yogurt, dill, lemon, garlic, but not over done and with a deft touch. This is not a place to go for a big night out, but definitely a perfect place to get a great meal.

Nice Bar and grill

By gslondon |

We were taking here by our New York friends.Very pleasant Bar had good service nice decor Great Waterford Crystal chandeliers adorn this Irish /American owned and managed establishment on 7th ave.We had the house specials ribeye steaks with mashed potato and veg.Cooked to perfection with a nice sauce on the side.We were in a booth opposite the bar perfect for four.Very attentive staff catered to our needs. It certainly worth a visit.Others there mostly Business type.

Delicious Turkish food - Affordable and delicious! (Upper Westside)

By WhichWay? |

After a few trips to Turkey I love their food and took the opportunity to stop in for lunch. This is a wonderful restaurant. Decorated attractively, it was both clean and inviting. They offered both an extensive lunch menu and a regular menu but the value in the lunch menu was outstanding. For $12.00 you could have a salad, appetizer or soup; an entree and a glass of wine - in Manhattan!! I chose the Smoked Eggplant salad which was definitely cooked in a wood oven before being combined into the salad. It was wonderful as it was but also really good on top of the crispy, chewy bread they provided. My entree was an Adana Kebab, and a mix of 3 small salads and hot rice. We have visited Adana, Turkey before and the Adana Kebab was as authentic as could be - flavorful and spicy without significant heat. The glass of house wine was a nice quality and really made for a special meal. I also sat and enjoyed a great cup of Turkish coffee. My server was friendly and polite, but once I engaged her she was happy to carry on a conversation with me. Now that I have found the restaurant I will definitely be headed back for a full dinner in the evening next time I am in the city.

slow service but tasty food

By marieatta_pman |

ate in middle of afternoon on a Saturday in FEB with very few other customers in the restaurant. My only complaint was that the service was a bit slow. food was great - tasted very fresh and had great flavors.

First taste of Turkish food

By mamajax24 |

The experience of our first taste of Turkish Food was awesome, we went at lunch time so we tried the Lunch Special. Great deal for what you get, first course is an appetizer, soup or salad, than an entree and to round out the meal you get a glass of wine, soda, coffee or tea. For $14.50 + taxes. We had the lentil soup and Piyaz (White Beans with onion, olive oil, parsley and black pepper.) Both were good Main courses we had were Gyro and Kofte Kebab (lamb meatballs) both served with rice. The other thing that was really good was the bread, it was so light and fluffy. The service was great, it was just an amazing time.

Good food, good service

By Larry K |

The three of us cleaned our plates. We each had a different lamb dish. Service was friendly and efficient. Generous drinks.

Customer Enjoyment Is Not Their Concern

By DancerGuy |

We came in for Sunday brunch, a party of six including two frail seniors in their 90’s with canes. We headed for a table with 8 chairs and were shooed away to a 6-seater wedged into a corner. The table was as small as could be. The server told us that the 8-seater was allowed only for larger parties. Fair enough, and we managed to jam ourselves around our assigned table. They did not extend any courtesy to assist our elderly, which would have very difficult--the table was hemmed in on three sides by a railing, a wall, and another table. It was barely possible to move out the chairs, let alone have enough room for an employee to give us assistance. About 10 minutes later, however, another party of 6 arrived (no canes), and they were readily given the same table for 8 denied to us--their coats and bags placed on the 2 extra seats. Service was not their strong point. The employees seemed bored and unhappy. There didn’t appear to be a manager present. We ordered coffee to drink while waiting for our starters. It took over 10 minutes before five cups of coffee appeared, and before we could take a first sip, the starters were immediately put on the table. Among the brunch items we ordered was Scramble Pepperoni, which was decent but not recognizable as Turkish food (it was ordered by one of us who had been to Turkey). The Iskembe (marinated tripe) soup certainly was, however--unique, absolutely delicious, slightly spicy, with a touch of lemon juice. I look forward to going back for this again. The Kofte Kebab was grilled fresh and juicy, a real delight. The Mediterranean Salad came with feta cheese, which unfortunately had been shredded and then apparently kept in a salt brine. This feta was so salty it was inedible; the rest of the salad was good. Feta cheese ought to come in chunks, and it might be a good idea to rinse off the brine. The falafel was absolutely delicious, some of the best you’ll find anywhere. The total check including tax was $100.98. By the end of the meal our bottoms were all sweaty, from sitting in chairs that had been fitted with clear plastic seat covers. Bring your own chair pad, or just order takeout!

Great surprise

By Virginia L |

Staying locally on UWS and looking for a change of flavour. Passed Seven and went in. Great food. What Turkish flavours. The octopus was to die for. And the beef on skewers was so plentiful and tender. All washed down with a bottle of Efes beer. And very friendly service at a reasonable price.

Mutlu (happy) we did

By Ilona S |

We had dinner here before heading downtown to a broadway show. It was only early so maybe that is why this place was not packed, as I know if I was a local I would be returning often. Service was great and all polite. Received fresh warm bread complimentary when seated. We ordered a dip for this bread & almost filled the belly before our mains, as is was so good we couldn't stop eating it. The meals were great size & very fresh. The beef was amazing (Australian & NZ beef). I miss Australian beef after being away for 4weeks so I couldn't get enough. The price is right, it won't break the bank Give it I go, you won't be disappointed.

A fresh, delicious meal backed up with fantastic, personal service

By ilove2travel42 |

This is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in New York City. At least once per week (and sometimes more), I travel from my home in Westchester County to meet with friends and visit this wonderful restaurant nestled in Upper West Side. The food is always absolutely amazing and the service beyond expectation. Whenever I enter, I am greeted warmly by one of the staff and seated promptly. Their delicious warm bread is served a few minutes thereafter and, as always, I have a shepherd's salad and babaganush. They have endless appetizer choices and one could get full from the bread and appetizers alone. Don't. Otherwise you will miss out on having the pleasure of having their lamb chops, or a turkish pizza or one of their seafood choices. Follow up the main course with one of their desserts (I love Baklava) and turkish tea. The prices are great, the food wonderful, the service fantastic and the ambiance great. I promise you that you will not regret it. You can thank me later.

Seven's grill

I went there with my husband. We were really excited about but the service and food was not good as we expected. The staff was not friendly. The food was below the average.

Delicious Food, Attentive Service

By Devorah33851 |

Seven's is good for meat lovers as well as vegetarians. They have many lamb dishes, also some wonderful meatless eggplant preparations. The almond pudding for dessert is always refreshing. And if you order hot tea, the refills keep coming.

Close to Beacon, good pre event dinner location

By Satchmo1234 |

What we expected, good food, plentiful servings, enjoyed a bottle of Turkish wine, service good, cost reasonable. Would go back. Appears to be a family business with owner up front, very welcoming.

As good as in Istanbul

By Jenny T |

The chicken adana, the salads and the appetizers are as memorable as those in Turkey. Don't miss the liver appetizer!

Wonderful fresh, authentic food

By LovesHippos |

Highly recommend Seven's - especially if you can get in before it fills up. Our server was lovely. She had recommendations and was quite pleased to hear that we had been to Turkey. She brought samples of traditional wine for us to try (we made another selection). All the wait staff were relaxed, attentive and pleased to help when we needed it. Kudos - we were only charged for 1 traditional chai (not all three that I actually drank), food was served hot and cooked to order. Appetizer portions were HUGE; we split two appetizers between four people. This entire meal was an excellent value. Small negative detail - it took a long time to get our check. It only mattered because we had to walk four blocks to the performance we were attending after dinner. The restrooms were clean and well-stocked.

a little bland but easy on the wallet

By daveyjones111 |

Nice environment, much nicer than the slightly tacky fronting suggests. Good prices, service very pleasant but a little bit rushed, particularly as the restaurant was quite quiet. Delicious bread for the table. I enjoyed a falafel and hummus platter which although tasty didnt quite compare to the hummusplace nearby (but no surprise that a hummus restaurant had the better hummus). Mrs had a bean dish which was also pleasant but a little bland. The disappointment came in the side, i ordered mixed vegetables, and got some unflavoured boiled carrot, broccoli and cauliflower which i cant be sure didn't come from the freezer. I would have expected something a bit better from a Mediterranean place, or at least med veg. Baked rice pudding for dessert, which was nice and spiced with cinnamon, but served straight from the fridge so was very cool, which is a real shame as rice pudding is best enjoyed hot.

Great find!

By Mark S |

My wife and I discovered Seven when looking for interesting food in a quiet place for conversation with friends -- a rarity in New York City's cacophonous dining scene. Seven proved just the place for dinner. We already returned for a second visit. The Turkish-influenced menu has lots of specialties at very affordable prices. Portions are generous. The zucchini pancakes with a garlic yogurt sauce were great starters. On another occasion we started with the tasty spiced felafel and the lamb meatballs. I can also recommend the lamb shank and various chicken dishes, all deliciously marinated. Service was attentive on both occasions. We will be back.

Excellent food+super friendly staff

By Kastalia |

The food here is really good! I've been coming to this restaurant for years and ot never disappoints. Just had the octopus and cold meze platter that were both excellent. The almond pudding and baklava are excellent choices for desert. The staff is beyond friendly and professional and they will make you feel at home here!

Authentic, delicious Turkish food

By Blodges |

Located in the heart of the Upper West Side of Manhattan, Seven's Grill serves fresh, authentic and delicious Turkish Food. Their Imam Bayaldi is the best I've ever had, with raisins as well as the more common fillings. The only disappointment was the cigara koefte filled with cheese, which was way too salty and not very crisp. The meat dishes are tender and flavorful, and portions are large. We went there twice in the week we were in NY.

Hot and fresh

By Joanne L |

Came here for lunch on a Saturday and ended up getting brunch. I got a vegetable pizza which was really hot and tasty. It needed a bit of pepper and was too big to finish. The omelette my cousin had was also hot and full of cheese. Also too big to finish.

Tiramisu to make us appreciate Thanksgiving

By Tiramisu Fan |

Not sure which side of the Mediterranean tiramisu comes from, but what we got from this restaurant considered the best of Turkish food in New York is amazingly good, best of any I've tried of my favorite dessert. Unfortunately, available only sometimes when the owner herself makes a batch that lasts only a day or two, so we ordered some to save for topping off our stay-at-home Thanksgiving, and it made for a real bright spot in our pandemic celebration of what we can be thankful for. Wish they allowed more than 5 stars, just for the tiramisu. (The other dishes are similar quality, of course, but I don't get as excited about anything as much as tiramisu.)

Quick Lunch

After a nice cold walk through Central Park this place was a warm place to relax and enjoy some freshly made food, the lamb meat was amazing

Nice atmosphere and decent food.

By Diana K |

We have traveled in Turkey so often seek out this cuisine. This place was quiet with good service and clearly many local and loyal customers. My gyro donar was excellent, with a generous portion and nice sides. My husband had a chicken dish that was less tasty but certainly fine. The wine list is very small.

Good, not great...but very good!

By arts20th |

Service was a bit on the slow side, at lest for order taking. But after that, food came promptly. It was definitely good. The server was more than amiable and gave excellent suggestions for wine and for food. Wine was good, food was good. The bread is absolutely great! The caviar spread, unique and really very good.

Like finding a needle in a haystack...............

NYC has thousands of restaurants. Every culture, ethnicity and regional cuisine you could wish. "Sevens" is a Turkish/Mediterranean grill that could be lost in the overwhelming opportunities for dining. We discovered it as a convenience for dinner prior to an Off Broadway show in the Triad Theater -- which is just above the restaurant. The variety of dishes and the attentive service (even though it was "pre-show") was excellent. We had lamb as main course (kebab and shank) --- delicious and more than we needed. We'll be back!

Fantastic food, great service, always wonderful!

By Lori R |

Whenever I visit NY, I eat here, often going back several times during my stay. The food is always fresh and delicious, the service excellent, and the ambience, while not fancy, is great. The restaurant is fairly quiet and spacious, and it is always easy to have a good conversation here without straining to hear what the other person(s) are saying. Everything is excellent, but my personal favorites include the shepherd salad (sometimes topped with grilled chicken), the doner kabobs (gyro lamb), the lentil soup, and the chicken kebabs. The apple tea is delicious, as are all of the desserts. There are also many vegetarian and vegan options. The lunch special is very economical at $12.99, and includes an appetizer, entree and a glass of wine. It is my favorite NY restaurant.

I had just returned from Istanbul when I came upon this restaurant. The chicken kabob was delicious. I reminded me of Istanbul

Restaurant option if you are going to the Triad Theatre

By Richard10024 |

This restaurant is downstairs from the Triad Theatre. I thought the service was very good. They were attentive and polite. Perhaps when they are at capacity it could be different. But they were relatively busy when we were there and we found the service fine. I am a bit confused on some of the reviews for this restaurant. Where I am having a bit of an issue is the high ratings on the authentic taste of this food. I wish the food reminded me more of Turkey. I found the food at Seven's acceptable, but in general the spices were much blander than I would expect from Turkish food. The hummos and baba ghanoush were just not up to par with other Turkish and middle eastern restaurants in New York. And the bread wasn't really warm or crisp. Having said all of that the food was certainly acceptable. I would not go out of my way to eat there again. However if I was with people who chose the restaurant (in particular its convenient if going to the Triad Theatre) I would be willing to go as it was pleasant, service was good and the food was acceptable.

Great place to Eat Before A Show

By Presto67 |

Went to the Beacon the other night to see Dream Theater and had dinner at Seven Hills first. Food was excellent. The octopus for starters. The stuffed cabbage was spot on. This is a must go if you are in the upper west side.

Delicious Turkish Food

Consistently excellent reasonably-priced Turkish favorites with friendly service. And quiet enough to converse! Stands out in the neighborhood.

Four Hungry Theatergoers, Eight Thumbs Up!

By Richard J |

This is a lovely restaurant with a very pleasant atmosphere and excellent food. A bonus was the best vodka martini I have had in ages! The menu is panoramic and unique as Mediterranean restaurants go with several dishes not easily found elsewhere, among them Leaf Salmon which is salmon rolled in grape leaves and grilled which was happily enjoyed by a dinner companion. The large Mixed Appetizer served the four of us quite well along with excellent homemade pita bread served warm. The Seafood Specialties were impressive and included shrimp, salmon, dorado, bass, and whole snapper selections. The Kariski Izgara (mixed grill) I ordered had excellent variety and was very good. When four people with different tastes and food preferences uniformly agree that a restaurant is "excellent," you can usually expect a comparable experience if you try it yourself

Authentic, friendly, convenient taste of Turkey

By drmikenyc |

I'm going to say this is now probably my favorite NY Turkish restaurant, of 3 or 4 which I'd recommend. Especially for anyone familiar with Turkish traditional foods (and drink). My prism is from spending time in Turkey and this week being host to some friends visiting from Greece. (Forget the politics and history of Greece/Turkey! Certain things hold shared love, from ouzo/raki to salads and use of yoghurt, baklava-type deserts, etc.) I've eaten a few times here, after first seeing they make one of my favorite dishes I ate in Istanbul, lamb kebob (chunks, not gyro slices) over grilled pita bread, with a tomato sauce and yoghurt. Here it is "yoghurt kebob" - or Yogurtlu tavuk veya kuzu sis (menu is in English with names in Turkish also). It's perfect. Authentic, tasty, nice lamb, that's about all I can say. I did make the mistake of ordering from memory the Alexander (Iskender) kebob recently, and that dish is with the sliced lamb (gyro), if that's what you want. It was good, but the lamb chucks are truly divine. (My Greek friends said, "get the Turkish lamb - the kebob - the best".) Choice. We began with Raki, served in traditional cylindrical glasses in holders with ice, and split a Mediterranean salad and an appetizer of sigara borek, (pastry dough filled with herb-seasoned feta), slightly salty but super-authentic and delicious, again, just as people cooked in homes in Istanbul. There are other appetizers, salad, calamari, hummus, and various eggplant appetizers - as well as a sampler plate. We also had Turkish Ayran (yoghurt drink) with the meal, which was not offered at another nearby Turkish restaurant. This meal here was so good my Greek visitors wanted to go back the very next day, but instead we decided to try another, for variety & comparison. Aside from my kebob with tomato & yoghurt, my companions got a baby lamb shank with Turkish rice, a chicken kebob with rice and baby lamb chops. There are also many other popular dishes, with mostly Turkish specialties but some common regional things too, including the baklava and coffee we ended with. They also have seafood dishes, combination kebobs, various gyro dishes, and the NY-popular "Turkish-style pizza". Service was fine and very friendly (one reason I returned) - the young wait staff and bar/reception people were actually Turkish and several spoke Turkish, though most were too young to reminisce about reading the coffee grinds or some other cultural traditions. Some comments mention crowds at times, so I should note that directly upstairs - you may see a line in the entry foyer - is a tiny off-Broadway theater with a political spoof now running (summer 2017) and apparently drawing crowds from what I have seen, especially around dinner time. Most go upstairs to the play and aren't a crowd waiting for the restaurant, but still, Sevens seems to be growing in popularity too (a good thing!) and so like others I hope they'll last a long while, unlike many UWS restaurants. I don't know - but will ask next time - if they're a single family-owned restaurant, but it sure has the feeling of one, with the friendly service and authentic glassware, etc. (They even put on some Greek music for my guests.) This does seem to be their only location, so it's not a chain. Not inexpensive, but you're paying for quality lamb (and seafood too, though we didn't get any of it this time around). And having gone the next night to another Turkish restaurant, which was a bit more expensive, with some good and unique dishes but no ayran/yoghurt and rather over-busy (losing one of our orders), I'm putting Sevens as my #1 preferred Turkish restaurant on the West Side of Manhattan, and definitely one of the top 2 or 3 anywhere in the city that I have been. Enjoy! (PS - If not sure what's in the dish or how it is prepared - ask!)

Amazing!!!

By Burcu Y |

I am very picky in restaurants. I like Seven's Turkish Grill a lot, which is my favorite restaurant in NYC! Amazing food, amazing people! soup, lahmacun, kebap.......so delicious! and the people are very friendly, they have warm welcome. One word to describe this restaurant: Amazing!

Yummy yummy Mediterranean food

By Mask O |

I had the best homemade bread and mezzes. The staff were very helpful and nice. Our waitress explained us almost all the dishes and we loved her recommendations. Lahmacun ( Turkish style pizza) is a must-try Dish!

Great Food and Service

By Guy M |

Had dinner Friday night before a show at the Beacon Theater. We were warmly greeted and had a few drinks at the bar before we sat down. Very good Turkish Wines and Beers and of course Raki.. The food was excellent. Very fresh ingredients. Apps of Octopus , Fried Liver cubes and Zuccini Pancakes were large sized and superbly prepared. Mains of Lamb Kebabs w/ yogurt sauce and Manti (Turkish Lamb Ravioli) were delicious and large. Deserts and coffees good. Service was fast pleasant and attentive. Comfortable and fairly quiet atmosphere. Well worth a visit. Reservations recommended unless you arrive early.

Excellent Mediterranean Food. Local Spot on the Upper West Side

By Denise D |

Very good Mediterranean food. Eat in or take out...they deliver. This restaurant is the "go-to" place for the United Nations.

Fantastic find

By Michael E |

We visited on a whim after a show at the Beacon. The staff was wonderful and the service was impeccable. We shared the Tzatziki which came with fluffy, warm bread. The Lamacun has a great spice and was perfect to share. Desserts were fantastic and we tried the Almond Pudding and Kastner with pistachios. Paired with Turkish coffee and tea. Miray made the meal very enjoyable!

great for a quick Turkish bite, even excellent for delivery

What a great meal

By Scott C |

We went with a large group of 19, and enjoyed a great time. The food was delicious, wait staff knowledgeable and made great recommendations. in a large party it is always difficult when all the food comes out in different times, and people feel obligated to wait. Here, all the food came out within minutes of each other so there was no awkward waiting with your meal getting cold. Turkish beers and wines were fabulous. My only complaint is that it is a small place, and a party our size was at one long table so you couldn't talk to those at the other end, but that wasn't their fault.

Okay Meal

By Chessie22 |

I was excited to try a Turkish restaurant, because I've never eaten in one before. The atmosphere was pleasant at the Seven's. The food was a bit pricey for what we got. I had shrimp in some sort of sauce. Bread was good. Yogurt dip was good. Turkish wine was just like any other domestic wine. Overall, I thought it was pretty ordinary. Nothing outstanding. The service was slow once we finished our meals. I don't think I'd go again.

Solid, standard kabob faire

By IvyNYC |

This is an attractive and comfortable restaurant. The food is good. There is nothing special about the menu and the prices are on the high side for basic kabobs and similar items. Portions are good sized and your belly will be satisfied.

Rude!

By Holly521 |

I made a reservation online, got an immediate "reservation accepted" for early on a Saturday night since we were taking a friend from out of town to the Met and this was convenient, reasonable and sounded like fun. I'd gotten a voucher from ScoutMob and have used them 4 or 5 times with no problem and all the restaurants they've recommended that I've tried have been good enough for me to return at full price. We like Meditteranean food and eat it often, here and abroad. First they were crowded and didn't have our reservation. We should have left then, but had an opera to get to and just wanted to have dinner. After the manager and hostess argued with me for a few minutes, hinting I was either a liar or delusional ,they gave us a table. I told the hostess we had a ScoutMob voucher and she said to give it to the waitress. Then the argumentative manager and hostess came to the table, told us they weren't taking the voucher, but they would give us 10% off the bill, or 25% if it was over $100.00. The starters were ok, then the main course came. My promised on the menu "crispy skin fish" had limp, uncrispy skin so I sent it back and it was crispy when returned but greasy and overcooked. My friend 's salmon "filet" was a salmon steak, not what he ordered and looked sliced from frozen, my boyfriend ordered a " special turkish pasta" and it was revolting. The salad accompanying the dishes was undressed and tasteless. When we got the bill, there was no discount, even though it was over $100.00. Once again the argumentative pair returned and grungingly gave us the 10% off, not the promised 25%. When the bill came back, as per ScoutMob rules, the waitress had put 18% on the original amount on it as her tip. We were furious since we had not gotten the $25.00 discount as per ScoutMob and given all this stress with a guest in tow Since she'd been a pretty good waitress up until then and we are good tippers by doing that she lost more then a few bucks. Bad food, rude management, crowded, noisy. Attitude:The customer is always wrong!

Friendly service, delicious food, a chance to try some Turkish wine (it's good!)

By Vicki W |

We've been a couple of times now and have found the place so friendly, the servers helpful (especially in successfully choosing a wine from a list that is so unfamiliar). The atmosphere is low key and on the quiet side. The sea bass and the Dorado were both beautifully cooked, and the salad that comes with the fish had shredded beets and other tasty surprises the elevated it beyond the standard side salad. The labneh on the meze plate is habit forming, and the bread that comes to the table is wonderful, but if you aren't a bread eater they offer cucumber and carrot slices to go with the meze plate. Try the arugula and orange salad with sliced almonds and parmesan--enough for two or more as part of a first course.

Decent food and reasonable prices for NYC

By Denise D |

Was looking for a place to eat on 72nd Street prior to going to a show and stumbled upon Seven's. Service was friendly and prompt, decent house wine and the food was delicious. Had the lamb chops and they were succulent and tasty. Good Mediterranean style food with a Turkish leaning. They are open for lunch and dinner and have a bar.

You can actually have a conversation.

By Godguy |

The food was authentic and expertly prepared. Fabulous bread. We arrived early and had great service but I can see where they may be a little thin on staff at the height of the dinner rush. All of our meals were expertly prepared. Dessert was a treat paired with a Turkish dessert wine I did not see on the wine list. Very reasonably priced for Manhattan. Would definitely return.

Best Turkish restaurant on the Upper West Side!

By susannamacomb |

Everything we ate was delicious! The lamb kebab was succulent and perfectly cooked. They only use New Zealand and Australian lamb and you can taste the difference. The stuffed cabbage with tomato sauce and yogurt tasted homemade -- so flavorful. The salad was fresh, crisp and plentiful. The feta was different than what you normally get -- more subtle and better. The rice was flavored with broth. The baklava was home made and oh so good. The Turkish coffee is good and my Turkish apple tea was a delightful surprise. We have tried other Turkish restaurants in the city and this is the best. P.S. We saw Turkish people eating here -- always a good sign!

Affordable and Good Turkish Option on the Westside

By Flafreckles |

This is a great little Turkish place on the Upper Westside. Went with a transplanted New Yorker and a local on a weeknight. The service was great. Always a full drink and plates were cleared quickly. We had the cold eggplant appetizer, the zucchini pancakes and the Turkish pizza (I forget the name). All the dishes were A-OK, They didn't knock my socks off but they were solid We then shared a couple of lamb kabobs, one of which was allegedly spicy I would say it was more flavorful but certainly not spicy. My friend tried some Turkish coffee which smelled incredible and she liked very much. A good option for affordable Turkish food if you happen to be in the 'hood.

Tasty pre-fix lunch

By Antigoniesq |

This is a good place for a delicious and reasonably priced lunch. We chose the shepherd salad which was excellent, especially with the hit Turkish bread, and chicken Adana and chicken kebab. The chicken portions were small but came with white rice and some type of shredded cabbage on the side and, after the generous salad, the lunch was very filling. Oh, and a glass of house wine is included as well!

Sub par Mediterranean food. Make the appetizers your meal.

By J M |

Atmosphere and service are nice enough, the food is another story. Too much salt, no other flavor. For appetizers, the hummus and the orange salad are good. We should have stopped there. My shrimp dish was awful. The shrimp were undercooked and highly salted - uneatable. My friend had a lamb dish and he couldn't eat it due to over salting and flavorless meat. Unfortunately, the taste of our main dishes lasted long after our meal.

Very decent Turkish food, considering you're not in Istanbul

By Peter B |

Two things stand out - they probably make the best Tarama (red caviar spread) in town and their chicken livers are the 2nd best. The rest is fully acceptable decent Turkish fare. The hummus is a bit bland and the grilled fish could be more interesting. Good pide and lahmacun. Overall, worth a visit, especially if you're in the hood. I wouldn't travel from afar. ;-)

Good mid eastern food

Accommodating neighborhood restaurant. Friendly staff, good menu with lots of variety and very accommodating kitchen. Nice wine list.

Great Find!!!

By Deni0401 |

Just walking toward Central Park around lunchtime, luckily turned down 72nd Street, saw the Turkish restaurant, our new favorite food, so we decided to try it. What a treat, they have great lunch specials, a glass of wine included, great pice. Great food, great price, great service -- can't wait to go back!!!

Ordered for delivery and was quite pleased

By tian s |

Ordered for delivery during the lockdown. The food was very good. The bread was superb, as was most of the other food, including the lentil soup, the mixed meze appetizer, the almond desert, We ordered chicken shish kebab, the salad, the almond pudding desert. The okra was a bit greasy and oily, but I would definitely order from here again.
