Excellent diner!

By Catharine G |

This is an excellent diner with friendly staff and great food! We ate here as a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teenagers). It’s an authentic experience a d good value.

Great breakfast in an authentic diner

By Cymru63 |

We met a friend for breakfast. We had originally met at Johny's Luncheonette but it was full, so we walked to here, which our friend knew about. I had the French toast with Canadian Bacon and copious amounts of coffee. All very tasty, and huge portions! Didn't need to eat anything for the rest of the day!

excellent !!

By charl15 |

We had a late lunch here May 27 2019 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Large portions. I had a Grilled Caesar wrap $12.00 and my husband had the Ruben $9.00. Fries were so good and the cole slaw was perfect. They had lots of dessert choices but were to full to try. Had the diner atmosphere which we were looking for. Definitely recommend!

Classic New York Diner

By mkendrick |

The New Yorker Hotel is just down the road from here, featuring the famous Tick Tick Diner. The Tick Tock is a New York Institution and a must do if staying at the New Yorker or nearby Being slightly off 9th avenue the Skylight Diner has cheaper prices but the food is just as good. Breakfasts are awesome and the coffee excellent. Service is good old fashioned American Diner, and this place is a classic of the genre. I recommend wholeheartedly.

Fantastic find

By evanses2005 |

We found this diner when walking to Hudson Yards from our hotel early one morning when our body clocks were still in U.K. time. It did not disappoint. Service was friendly and quick and the coffee was amazing! Breakfast was perfect with lots of choice and generous portions. Was lovely to have our first NYC breakfast in a lovely diner that was just like in the movies.

Good.

By Tetraedro G |

We were "graceful" to try a restaurant of this style, so we found this one on our visit to the Vessel. Great treatment, very spacious room and clean bathrooms(need to descend stairs) Highly recommended.

Old School and Very Cool

By Nina G |

How I missed this neighborhood gem for so many years is beyond me. The Skylight is everything a diner should be: huge, and I mean, HUGE, portions, extensive menu, breakfast available 24/7, coffee refills, good service and real classic New York diner atmosphere. Our party had the Mediterranean omelette, chicken dijon and salad topped with roast salmon, all ample and tasty. Good value, reasonable prices.

Typical diner

By FLSTFB |

Typical American diner, abundant dishes, good prices. Large place, also frequented by locals, perhaps not exactly the latest trend but a lot of substance. Very extensive menu from breakfast to dinner

Perfect.

By Noelia M |

The unbeatable breakfast, you have a little everything and very good, good quantities, speak Spanish, the girl in the mornings is the best of the site, the excellent coffee..No complaints, everything excellent.

Great food and atmosphere!!

By Rhonda B |

We ate here 3 times on our trip to Manhattan. The food is excellent and service is wonderful!! Prices are very affordable. A very cute diner, easy to get to!!

Nice Diner

By weekd09 |

Had a few family breakfast here. Staff were friendly. Lots of choice on the menu. Pleased a fussy eater. Food was nice and the portions were more than ample.

Breakfast

By Karen |

Typical traditional diner. The waiters service was fast and friendly and all the food ordered was very good too. Clean and Tidy. 5/5.

Lovely authentic american diner, highly recommend

By umski14 |

Excellent service with a smile, warm welcome, perfect brunch, a traditional american diner layout, so lovely. Easy to find food for me as a coeliac too.

Sensational!!

By Connie N |

Hands down the best diner in Manhattan!!! Sensational service, food, restaurant, etc. Seated promptly upon arriving. Quick service! Food was spot on perfect! I had the Italian Burger and my partner had the Bacon Cheeseburger. Everything was homemade and fresh! Dessert was also first class and homemade! Had the pumpkin cheesecake and my partner had the 7 layer cake. Both were amazing! This is what a diner should be!!! Definitely would return on a future trip to the area!!!

Tasty food and warm welcome

By derek c |

What a wonderful dining experience with a warm friendly welcome. We all enjoyed our meal choices with my french onion soup followed by moussaka simply delicious. In summary a brilliant diner in the heart of NYC with tasty good value food.

Outstanding

By SandNSea4me C |

Food was outstanding- diner plus- service was fast...prices were right. Staff was terrific. We will be back! 34th & 9th..just around the corner from Penn Station & Madison Square Garden

Pre highline fill up

By abbie W |

We got the subway here to fill up before walking the highline and central park. The diner is very traditional and was busy when we went though we had no issues with getting a table. It's very clean and the service is brisk although not particularly charming. The food was huge as you would expect and we got plenty of coffee refills. We all enjoyed our various dishes - pancakes, full breakfast and would recommend it to anyone in the area.

Very nice neighbourhood diner, good value for money

By amsterdam05 |

We came across this diner on our way to the High Line. We shared scrambled eggs with toast and hash browns, a fruit salad and a coffee. All very tasty. Total bill including tax and tip 26$, good value for money. Very friendly service. Clean toilets.

Old school diner

By filitrotti |

Authentic looking diner behind Penn Station. Very large menu, something for everyone. Friendly, professional waitress. Tasty reuben sandwiches

Disgusting

By Jtrooney75 |

There are so many incredible restaurants in NYC; this is not one of them. In fact, the food itself was sub-par, nothing special, diner food. How they got themselves an A rating for cleanliness is beyond me--must've been a HUGE payoff involved. It was FILTHY!! The cactus in the window was covered with grime and filth. The bathroom was offensive. There was USED toilet paper on the floor in the hallway and on the steps. The only thing passable was the service. I'm sorry those poor, hard-working people have to work in such a horrible place. I can't even imagine what the kitchen probably looks like!!!!

Good Diner Fare - Mind the Greens

By LasagneGuy |

Chocolate Chip Pancakes and Chocolate Shake: Good portions, happy patron. Fried Chicken Basket w home fries. Excellent, perfectly cooked, both. “Best I’ve ever had.” Mixed Green Salad. The greens were off. Couldn’t believe it was served. Did have robust chunks of avocado, tomato, cucumber and grapefruit. Service was thoughtful and efficient, aside from serving slimy lettuces.

Best traditional NYC diner!! 10/10

By Rich D |

This is one of my favourite diners to visit when on holiday in NYC! I absolutely adore the vintage feel inside, the staff are so helpful and are so friendly! The menu is really broad (wider selection than Juniors) it’s always our “go to” for breakfast! I got the whole grain waffle with fruit, always amazing and fills you up! I can’t wait to return again (hopefully later this year) it’s open early and doesn’t close until 1130pm so ideal if you want to grab something in the evening too!

TASTELESS AND UNAPPETIZING WITH MEDIOCRE "SERVICE"

By GrandTour02923275381 |

I was surprised to see the high rating when I just opened this. This was not reflective of our experience. I had to figure out gluten-free options on my own (of which I didn't find any on the menu). they state they have them (on TripAdvisor). Service was lackluster. About a third of the tables were occupied at 2:00 p.m. mid-week and it took ten minutes to get water and about twenty minutes to order. I noticed most customers were ordering breakfast items, so I'm guessing that's where they shine because what I had was three large pieces of meatloaf, soggy broccoli, and boxed mashed potatoes presented on two plates and it was TASTELESS AND UNAPPETIZING. The meatloaf was smothered (like you almost couldn't see it) with this unappetizing and glutenous gooey looking industrial gravy. A lot of food doesn't mean it's good or a good value--it's just a lot of food and, in this case, dumped on plates. I should know better.

Good comfort food, terrible service

By Lucy H |

The diner is authentic and you get a good meal but go for the food, not the service!! I sat down to have a glass of water thrown along the table to me, then "coffee"? The food comes up quick, maybe because they skip the manners out of the whole experience. I would go again for the food but don't expect much more!

It's a must to go ,they do a good selection of good till late all homemade

By Newcastle |

Absolutely great service, food amazing and service!! Lots to choose from, and if a sweet tooth you will not be disappointed

Great American diner

By sprincey |

My friend took us here for lunch. I loved the look, typical American diner! Service was excellent! Food was great! Really felt like I was making the most of the American feeling.

From Happy Days to Skylight, it's a moment. Andateci!!!

By Andrea J |

We were looking for a place to eat at 9.30pm after visiting The Edge.....without being plucked and...eating. We followed the positive reviews and.... did well. Happy Days style environment, endless menu, hearty and good dishes. And finally family-friendly prices. Consigliatissimo!!!!

Diner breakfast lunch dinner perfect

By roberta s |

Great alternative for dinner or lunch or breakfast... always open, a thousand offers... expensive average but the portions are large and the staff is available.. for soft drinks and water there is free refill.... near the 32 central street convenient recommended

Best breakfast

By OwnYourself |

We noticed the Skylight Diner opposite PELOTON and popped in for breakfast. We had 2x eggs, home fries, bacon and toast. Best breakfast so far on our trip. Janet our server was excellent .

Nice and friendly but food terrible

By Anya |

Good service and friendly staff but the food not good. Prefabricated veggie burgers and plastic cheese. Sad experience to 100 dollars for a family of 5.

Great little find

By andymax7575 |

Great little find we great service and hearty food Very friendly staff and free flowing coffee. Food exceptional and we return when back

A must do diner when in NYC

By Gary Millar |

Wow, what a feed you get here at Skylight Diner! This is our 2nd time in NYC and we made the effort to eat here again and we're not at all disappointed. HUGE portions so make sure you're hungry! :) Tasty food, huge menu choice, friendly staff, very efficient and great value for money. Yet to find a better diner in NYC. Thank you!

Excellent Option for Breakfast

By Willie C |

This place offers a great variety of breakfast dishes at excellent prices. We ordered two different omelets, and they were delicious. The bacon was crispy—one of the best we've ever tasted. Janet was our server, and she provided excellent service. Highly recommended!

Quite Excellent

By twa203 |

Been coming here for close to 20 years and was so pleased to see the Skylight still open in Hell’s Kitchen post pandemic. Amazing breakfast, friendly service. ‘The’ typical NY diner. A must.

Typical 70s diner

By Arianna |

We entered cause we were attracted by the cakes and by the atmosphere and cause it looked like the typical American diner of the 70s so we went for the Oreo cake and the apple pie, they both were freezing cold, the apple pie wasn't bad but was supposed to be warm and the Oreo cake was just awful, I even wonder if it had Oreos inside. Dessert experience was bad, I hope regular food is better cause the place is actually very nice.

Salty wings

By Dammieabiola |

Service was fast but the wings I ordered were way too salty! Quite upset because I was really starving and was going on a long ride.

Nice and well prepared food at a good price for what is New York

By JCaña |

We wanted to try the food of a diner and we went to it by the networks and by the proximity to where we were staying. We thought it was a great place. We arrived late, after 22:30, but there was no problem because their hours extend until 11:30 at night. The staff were very friendly and also speak Spanish. And dinner was generous in quantity and well crafted. It cost us three people just over 60 euros, with drinks and tip included. A good place to eat informally but well.

A good breakfast for a working day

By Groovemasterjay |

When you're stuck in a freakin' show at Jarvis center for the whole day, you must take a good breakfast. It's not grande cuisine, but it's well served, and quickly served.

Best Diner in Midtown

By MTClarity |

This is the best diner in Midtown. The menu is just massive, everything we tried was delicious and the portions were huge. It is a Greek diner so the yogurt was thick and creamy. The potato salad had enough pepper (rare and welcome). The service was friendly but not helicopter intrusive. The coffee isn't the best, but it wasn't terrible and the cup never went dry. Great for vegetarians and their meat loving friends.

Great dinner

By Charlotte A |

Very good dinner, we had a protein salad, it was not excellent but well stocked, an English muffin, egg sandwiches and huge pancakes as well as coffee. The pancakes are really huge and delicious. The service is lovely. We got it for less than $50.

Waffles were amazing!

By Ffiona W |

A great little diner that still feels like a bit of the New York that you see in films (but which is now sadly disappearing). Bottomless coffee and a menu so varied and with a great range of choices that it's difficult to choose! Reasonably priced too. Multigrain waffle with yogurt and berries - delicious! Right by Hudson's Yard and The Vessel.

Well worth a visit, maybe two or three ! Great value. Lots of choice. Great taste.

By Kirsten H |

Great place Friendly fast service Great food options Tasted Devine Wish had found it sooner ! Found in our last day. Great value for money, Lots of locals in here too.

Good place for breakfast

By Innino1 |

This is a good place for breakfast if you want the diner experience. They have plastic sofas it might be a bit worn and torn, but it works. Food and service is good, lots of things to choose from on the menu.

good diner with good food and service

By motherJo |

I like the omelets there and the breakfast special has what I want. spinach feta omelet and ohme fries all done well with a slice of bread toasted- your choice- their salads are good too as are the dressings= nice space- can be busy with tourists and office and construction workers

Great food but...

By Kirsten P |

I didn’t expect this place to have good food but my dad kept telling us how good it was so we decided to give it a try. Thank goodness we did! It had the absolute best food! I had a burger and my sister had breakfast and they were both great. The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars is because of the bathroom. I really wish I hadn’t gone to the bathroom before eating but now I know. The bathroom is gross so avoid it at all costs!

Real tasty diner

By uzmelissa |

This diner is very cool place to start with a breakfast or brunch to your day. Location is very close tourist attractions, i totally found delicious which I ordered.

Nice experience

By kenbehan |

Was on a five day, mostly scheduled trip. Had a Saturday free and wanted a typical diner experience. Googled this place and wasn't disappointed. Service was sharp and spot on, not overly friendly but it's a diner in NYC with high turnover. Had french toast with bacon, nice, not spectacular but perfectly fine. Coffee was nice and topped up. All at a reasonable cost. 👍

Nice spot for lunch

By leven4all |

We stopped at the Skylight Diner for a quick Lunch on the way to the Vessel. We were not disappointed. The burger was big and juicy, and the chicken portobello wrap was delicious. Service was attentive. Prices were very reasonable, a good find near Penn Station,

Best DINER Food and Great service!

By ReneeEW |

Stumbled across this diner for breakfast. I tend not to enjoy breakfast food but lunch for breakfast. This diner has it all! All the staff were over the top friendly. The menu has several pages and it took me some time to narrow down my choices. I enjoyed open face turkey sandwich, homemade gravy, fresh tuna wraps, chicken salad sandwich, amazing french fries and more. My husband, not as adventurous dined on fresh baked goods and pancakes. He enjoyed his breakfast items just as much as I did. We had such a great experience, we came there the next two mornings. All their baked goods are homemade - croissants, muffins, cakes, and pies. I wish I had room to sample one of these. This is a family owned business for the past 60 years. It is nothing fancy, but delicious and you will be stuffed and not disappointed!

Breakfast before heading on

By ScGray81 |

Stopped in here for our breakfast before leaving New York. Nice simple food. Good sized portions. Staff were friendly enough.

Classic vibes with family friendly food.

By Maciej |

Lovely place that gives the classic vibes. Food is delicious and both parents and kids can find something tasty (pancakes were an absolute hit with mine kids).

A disappearing thing

By David |

Slowly the traditional NYC dinner is going extinct. A traditional diner with a vast menu. Fresh Coffee and generous portions of bacon, eggs, and homefries. This is not Michelin star-rated dining. Just good old-fashioned comfort food. Not pretty, just good.

Good breakfast

By Ftlouie |

Good breakfast spot. Fast and friendly service. Nice traditional diner interior. Good size portions. Main problem was that all food was luke warm.

Adequate

By Patrick S |

$29 steak + eggs, adequate, 4 stars! I had to try this for brkfst, but not likely ever again. Expensive fore merely adequate, home fries a bit soggy, not my cuppa

Wonderful!

By Vicki Jayne |

Absolutely LOVED this experience of true NYC. I felt like I was on a film set! The staff were super friendly and accommodating, and the diner itself was exceptionally clean, comfortable. I ordered the philly cheese steak sub, came with fries, pickle and a side of coleslaw. Great location too! I'll be back if I ever visit the city again.

Great Food

By mack12 |

Skylight Diner was by our hotel, so we decided to eat here a couple of times. First night I had the Arugula Salad. One of the best salad's I have ever had...huge portions. The salad can easily feed two people. My husband had the club sandwich which was good and big portions. The next night we had eggs, bacon, fried potatoes and bean soup. The soup was delicious. The baked goods are huge and amazing. Service was great.

Great breakfast

By Ellen B |

We came here for a late breakfast. Very friendly waitstaff and generous portions. The French toast was huge slices of dense bread. Crispy on the outside with cinnamon and powdered sugar. The pancakes were as big as a dinner plate. Iced coffee rounded out the meal. Generous portions and a fair price for NYC.

Truly authentic

By JonnyWilde |

Popped in here for breakfast and got the real deal. Classic diner fare with great service and good quality, reasonable cost food. Deserves attention, best US breakfast I've had for a loooong time. Home fries are the bomb.

Breakfast…good!

By Travelaround59 |

It seems so unusual to find an old style Diner in New York where everything has been spruced up and modernised, but Skylight still keeps the old Diner stamp and is brilliant! Our breakfast was perfectly fine (and very cheap for NY standards) and the service was brilliant…will go back everyday!

Perfect for a Sunday Morning

By smedson |

Came here early on a Sunday morning. Just wanted a nice, hot, unpretentious breakfast, and that is absolutely what we got. The restaurant is an old school diner with tiled floor, booths, and vinyl chairs. It was almost a quintessential New York experience with the clanking of dishes and a table of half a dozen of New York's finest enjoying a meal. The coffee is wonderfully strong. (Just strong, not the bitter, dense stuff of having sat on the burner for too long.) We ordered omelettes with hash browns and toast. My spinach and goat cheese omelette was half the size of the large plate and delicious. The hash browns were grilled potatoes and had that nice crunchy outside. Highly recommend.

Good food. Great service.

By Courtenay O |

Our friend in town recommended this place, and we’re glad she did. The service was fantastic. Lizeth brought our drinks right away, and gave us plenty of time to peruse the menu and talk to each other. She was cordial, efficient, and there when we needed her. Friend and I had the vegetarian chili. Husband had the slaw with a warm corned beef sandwich. It did not take too long for our meals to come out. The chili was delicious! It had lots of cheese, carrots, beans and onions. It had so much cheese that neither of us could eat it all. We also ordered two corn muffins that were big and tasty. They were toasted which gave them a special crunch. We couldn’t finish them, so we each took half home! Husband said the corned beef was good - but not great. The cole slaw on the side was also good. None of us had room for dessert. And the desserts looked so good. The prices were reasonable especially if you pay cash. If you use a credit card, there is a 4% surcharge. If you need the bathroom, two are downstairs. The ladies room had two stalls and no wait. Surprise!

Authentic American diner!

By Rebekah S |

If you want an authentic American diner experience, this is the place! We stayed in NYC for four nights and every morning, we had breakfast at Skylight Diner to set us up for a long day of amazing sight-seeing! The staff are very friendly and attentive and the food is out of this world! I recommend the French toast with bacon. Beautiful! Prices are very reasonable, coffee was bottomless and you're given water as soon as you sit down. Great spot for breakfast in Midtown.

Very disappointed

By NYCLoftdweller |

Mediocre food. Not up to the rhe last time I ate here. Meatloaf sandwich was dry and over cooked. More filler than meat Not served with grave just small amount of cole slaw and a pickle

Great diner with lots of choice

By AntandNeil |

Found this place on a recent trip to NYC - it's just up from The New Yorker Hotel and close to The Edge. Very friendly and helpful staff, great food, lots of choice. Really enjoyed it. Will definately visiti again when in NYC.

Great eclectic brunch

By Durwood N |

This place has all kinds of food. My wife and I shared breakfast and a gyro plate. Both were well-prepared and tasty. The service was fast, friendly, and helpful. I would definitely return.

Nice place for a quick shared lunch

By SteaksMom |

My friend and I stopped here after a walk from Times Square to have a quick bite to eat. The service was good, the food was good, the restrooms were clean. We shared a gyro platter (fries and salad) and she had a beer. The food was plentiful and good. The servers were very busy making sure we had everything we wanted. Definitely stop there!!

Must Visit American Diner

By Amyc6293 |

We have visited this diner on a number of occasions during our visits to NYC. I can say that the service and food hasn't declined during the years between our visits. We have had breakfasts and Pancakes, all of which have been tasty Staff are friendly and attentive. Orders are taken quickly and food served promptly. The diner can take large groups at the back of the restaurant or diner booths towards the front. Restrooms are available for customers however they are down a flight of stairs. I am unsure if an elevator is available. We will def come back to the diner on our next visit

Delicious lunch spot

By Carla M |

When we exited Penn Station, we were starving, so we started looking for a spot for lunch. This diner was somewhat crowded, but not too bad so we stepped in. We ordered the delicious Gyro platter, and it was quite tasty. The meat was delicious, as was the pita. The french frieslooked to be hand cut and we’re a generous portion. We were too full to have dessert. The service was fast and friendly. We would definitely recommend this if you’re in the area.

Convenient - open 24 hours

By Steven E |

Lots of better places for breakfast. Uninterested sevice-couldn't even get a second cup of coffee. Ok breakfast but nothing special.

Great traditional diner experience

By RMC |

The Skylight Diner became our go-to place for breakfast during our stay in NYC. The menu has a great selection of good value options, and the large portion sizes definitely set you up for the day. The pancakes were amazing, as were the breakfast sandwiches (egg, tomato and avocado was our favourite). This place isn't fancy or high end, just the basics done very well. Exactly what you want for a traditional American diner experience.

Great Diner experience.

By Enda W |

Just great!! Perfect Diner experience. Staff were nice. Mazto balls soup was good and the Reuben sandwiches and fries were very tasty. Geat old school decor. Got the full diner feels.

Late Dinner

By jehenson81 |

After spending all day at the Javits Convention Center and leaving there very late, my friends and I wanted to grab a quick bite. The Skylight Diner was a straight shot down 34th street and wasn’t very busy. We were immediately shown to a table and looked through the huge menu. I got the nachos. Our food came out very quickly and my plate of food was huge. They used veggie chili instead of just putting beans on it and could have done without the huge pieces of zucchini, carrot and celery (picked them off). Otherwise it was a very filling meal. One of my friends got a Philly cheese steak and said it was fantastic. It was a great place for a quick bite, with lots of variety and a very friendly staff.

Delicious pumpkin cheesecake

By Seasondtraveller |

Nice diner setting and ambiance, with black-and-white pictures of New York on the walls. Slow service. Predictable hamburger, fries and Californian wrap but exquisite pumpkin cheesecake.

Ok for a "must eat at a diner" bucket list meal - not more

By Per N |

I guess for a lot of people visiting New York or maybe the USA for the first time having a meal at a traditional diner is a bucket list. And, for that purpose then by all means visit Skylight Diner. If you're looking for a good omelette or a stack of pancakes - in the day and age of Social media type food - please look elsehwere. Service was prompt and friendly. Lighting is TERRIBLE. Full on interrogation room type white vibe. Not a cosy Diner setting at all. I wouldn't go back but once again a shot out to the fab waitress

Good American dinner

By Denzil2008 |

Came from breakfast on several days during our visit for our classic all American breakfast. Good service from a typical dinner. It could do with a bit of a freshen up on the toilets and the outside signs, so it does look a bit tardy but the food was good.

Great little diner

By StephenCross |

Skylight Diner is a nice traditional diner on 34th Street. Loads of easy to eat options with fast service. Clean place and good value.

separate booths

By JohnSFleet_Hants_UK |

old school diner with separate booths and genuine NY grub. really enjoyed our lunch here - had a club sandwich with fries between two and it was plenty. recommended

There are better and friendlier places

By Jen H |

I intended to go here and eat. Upon entering I was taken to a table in the back that was next to cleaning products and boxes. It was not busy. When I asked if I could sit in a booth (pointing to one which was empty and there were others empty too) I was firmly told no because I needed to be a group of three plus as opposed to a solo traveller. There was no grasp from the host that I wanted the dinner experience as well as food. Unfriendly and unwelcoming host and so I left and went elsewhere. On the way out I passed individuals and groups of 2 sitting in the booths.

A top place to have breakfast

By K G |

This spot is great to have breakfast with the family. There is lots of different tasty options. We ate here 4 times during our 6 night stay, that says all! Price quality is very good.

Convenient Location

By margaretolele |

Skyline Diner is about the only eatry located closest to the pick up point for Bestbus.com there. We needed a place to sit while waiting for our bus to D.C. so we went there. Ordered Fried Calamari- not very tasty. Overall the Staff were okay.

Fantastic authentic diner

By Mandy O |

We stumbled across this diner during a thunderstorm and were bowled over by the food & service. Excellent selection of food & drink and prices are in-line with the area. We ordered a variety of dishes from the menu and all of them were fantastic. Wish we’d found this sooner as we’d had a couple of disappointing meals at The Tick Tock Diner earlier in our stay and now we know, will definitely be going back there next time we visit New York. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting an authentic diner experience with great food and service.

A bargain in Mid-town!

By Rich V |

Looking for some corned beef on St Patrick's day and found the Skylight. You will get diner service which will be quick, busboy slides water on table and gone, waitress was very busy but efficient. I had a Ruben my wife had Corned Beef and Cabbage. Both portions large and served piping hot! Had some rice pudding for dessert. Served ice box cold and delicious. A greta find for my wife and I.

Very good to give calm

By Nelly C |

Hearty breakfast, very good and fast service…. The pancakes and waffles are very generous… Go there without hesitation!

Super fun, with decent food (but limited menu)

By Gregsky |

My wife and I went here for lunch and had a blast. If you don't like loud, live music, don't go. We loved the performers; very talented. Service (Adrian) was fast and friendly. And talented. Food (burger and grilled cheese) was hot and tasty. I didn't love the waffle fries, but it was a fun time. Total cost with two sodas was $90, which included a 20% tip. We left a little extra and dropped $20 into the performer's bucket.

Authentic NYC diner offers tasty food and good service!!

By MidwestKathM |

Came across the Skylight Diner two NYC trips back. And in the 7 years since, we've made it a point to eat here whenever we can. The food is always tasty. The service always good. We've been there late night, early morning, and dinnertime. Dependable authentic NYC diner that is open when other joints are not.

Fast and accommodating, but pay with cash to save!

By Amber G |

We were catching a bus and needed to order dinner before we boarded. We asked if we could order to-go and not only was that an option but they were SO FAST! This place was busy and it was dinner time and we were in and out in no time and boarded our bus with plenty of time to spare. Also, the portions were HUGE! I ordered a Tuna Melt. I was a little skeptical because I'd never had a tuna melt on an English muffin but it was quite tasty. There was so much that I opted to eat it open-faced and there was still tuna leftover. The only thing that I didn't like was that the menu prices were for cash-paying patrons only. If you pay by card, the prices are higher but you don't really know that until you are actually paying. I'd still go back, but I'd make sure I had cash first.

Great Diner

By Ilanfreedman |

This diner is a few block from Sam Ash. I liked the ham and cheese sandwich as a main course, and a piece of seven layer cake for dessert.

Decent food that could be more flavorful

By dustythoughts |

We'd heard good things about this place and decided to give it a try, and were decently impressed. The menu is large, so there are a lot of options, but the food could be a bit more flavorful. We ordered a mushroom omelette and the California omelette, which were fine, but the home fries were bland and could have used flavor. The orders came with buttered toast and grape jelly. Prices were reasonable and the portions were big.

Best dinner/breakfast in New York so far

By Michele S |

For a couple who don't live high in the big, this was the best place for us... it has been the best meal since arriving in New York 2 days ago

good eats, good location, friendly staff

By Charmaine R |

We had breakfast and dinner at the Skylight Diner in New York, location was great for our hotel, food was very reasonably priced, large portions, friendly staff, very accommodating, service was quick, a little slower during dinner rush. But overall, a good place. Would certainly go there again next time in NYC.

Old school style diner.

By Mark E |

Great food at not New York prices - staff attentive and friendly and portion sizes great. We found the place after visiting The Edge and it had a great selection of food on offer.

A Cheesecake To Die For

By M_Cabrelli |

Ok the west side, this typical Greek NY dinner is everything it's billed up to be. The breakfast is great and the staff very friendly, Teddy, the opener is extremely nice. We used to go most mornings and loved it. The best thing is the cheesecake! NY is known for this but the cheesecake is the best in the city....nah, the planet. Apparently, it is a homemade recipe and it's deliciously light (without crust/base). Of course, it is incredibly unhealthy, full of cream, sugar, and cheese.....but what isn't these days.

Ok

Everything was ok,the place isn't the worst place we ate in New York, the food was ok,the service was fine, try it for yourself.

Great breakfast option

By Lindaqvx195 |

My spinach, goat cheese, and turkey sausage omelette was superb. The service was very quick - we had water and coffee within 30 seconds of sitting down. Nice place.

Lovely NYC Brekkie

By Berry1984 |

I was trying to find somewhere nice for breakfast and came across Skylight. Ordered the pancakes, bacon and egg and it was lovely. Great fast and friendly service, highly recommended.

Decent, not spectacular

By Danny W |

Stopped here for late breakfast during long walk around Manhattan. Food was ok, but nothing spectacular. My scrambled eggs, for example, had been cooked a bit dry. Service was ok but I had to signal several times to refill my drink. Wouldn’t avoid but wouldn’t make a destination.

Huge Servings and Delicious

By Jeremy C |

This is a great place for a quick meal that will be hearty, tasty, and reasonably priced. They have a large menu, so everyone should be able to find something that they like.

Awesome Diner

By Torontopal99 |

If you’re in the west-side (34th & 10th) do yourself a favour and drop in for the great service and home cooked diner food. Not enough of these around anymore. The pies look great, wish I would have tried one. Next time!

Amazing Breakfast.

As a visitor to New York, we were looking for somewhere with an authentic local vibe and skylight didn't disappoint. Classic American breakfast with bottomless coffee and great service.

Dine like a native New Yorker

By Steve P |

Like stepping onto a movie set. This is a must 'thing to do' for any international traveller. Extensive menu of American favourites (Philadephia Cheese Steaks, pancakes etc), colossal sized portions and superb service. It's the kind of place where millionaire's are seated next to street vendors and Cagney & Lacey or Al Pacino could walk in at any minute. A truly authentic New York experience..... and very easy on the wallet too.

Our new New York go-to

By NatSteveC |

Before travelling to New York, I looked for diners that were close to our hotel and where they served an impossible burger for a reasonable price. I made a note of the Skylight Diner as somewhere to check out during our visit and I’m glad we did. We ate here on our first night and it did not disappoint! The service was excellent and so was the food. There was plenty of choice, even for me as the veggie of the family. The portion sizes were huge and the price was very reasonable for New York. The staff were amazing and we ate here the following day, the day after that etc. There was always something different on the menu to try and all was equally top quality. We were in NYC for 5 nights and ate here for four! And if I ever return to New York, we will go back. Thank you Skylight Diner, definitely our new New York go-to!

Wonderful Lunch

By The Five Road Trippers 🚙🎡🎢🧳 |

I was in the city for a meeting and decided to have lunch before returning home. The server was very sweet and attentive. Split pea soup was hearty and delicious. Chicken Caesar wrap was awesome. Coffee was just ok. This is a wonderful spot for a quick lunch.

Visited Skylight whilst staying at the New Yorker; a 5 minute walk.

By charlie drake |

Couldn't fault it, good selection, reasonable prices, staff were fine. Had their multi grain waffle - it was superb and would highly recommend !

Still the best authentic diner

By Gingetraveller |

Fab food. Great staff. Authentic as you can get. What else to say? Try the homemade lemonade. Generous portions.

Great American diner

By Paula D |

Three eggs deluxe with potato and bacon was great!! We had two breakfasts and a dinner in here and we loved it! The staff were lovely and always on the go. If you want a hearty meal then this is the place to go!

Perfect for a Saturday evening

By Aaron H |

I loved the Skylight diner. The food tasted good and was at a cheap price. I ordered a turkey club with fries. I would recommend coming here again

Good Ol’ American diner experience

Great prices, good food, excellent service

By Patricia K |

24 hour diner serves everything under the sun and then some. Chose it for breakfast and ended up returning for second day breakfast. Three in our party and all enjoyed the generous servings. Servers were attentive and checked on us for anything we wanted, more coffee, etc. Would highly recommend for families and visitors in the area.

True American Diner Experience

By jackirmic |

We ate at several diners for breakfast during our 2 weeks in New York. This was the one that was what we remembered. Friendly Welcoming American attitude and service, enormous meal and refillable coffee. The Mediterranean omelette was tasty and well made. Choice of toast was welcomed. Other diners had limited choice and came poorly cooked. Good value in comparison to other nearby locations

As great as we remembered

By weekd09 |

Lovely return visit for breakfast. Staff friendly and attentive. Menu loaded with choice. Food was plentiful and tasty. Very reasonable. Would recommend

Good food, fast service

By Jeff H |

Great location. Good diner food. Nothing special but the food tastes good and the service is fast and friendly. Nice 60's diner decor. The menu prices are reasonable for this area.

Our trip to NYC!

By 474janicew |

Went here for dinner one night. It was lined up, but we were seated quite quickly. Authentic diner, run by Greeks, so you know the food is good! Extensive menu, reasonable prices, good service! Had the chicken souvlaki, tons of chicken! Came with fries and a greek salad! Huge portion for $14.00! Can't beat it!

Great place

By Sodhi G |

We ate breakfast here most of the time and as it has plenty of seating. Great food. Great atmosphere. Great service.

Classic Diner Experience

By LexiV |

We were seated right away and our food came out quickly. The avocado omelet was particularly delicious. There's a bathroom downstairs for customers.

Yummy & Priced Right

By BatchFam |

We went here after the Intrepid Museum. Great selection, friendly staff and affordable options! We had chicken and waffles, matzah ball soup and d a salad.

Philly cheesesteak

By Sue H |

Ordered from Grub hub. We arrived late night, it was after midnight and we were starving. We ordered Philly Cheese steak sandwiches it came with fries. It was delivered steaming hot. The sandwich was stuffed with peppers and onions and meat. The fries were hot and were good. Would definitely recommend if you want a philly sandwich.

Good

By Valentina G |

Service is rather slow for a diner. Servings are huge and the food is pretty good. The eggplant parmigiana is amazing.

Solid diner food!

By Chris C |

I visited here for breakfast. I was seated promptly. The server arrived quickly to take my order. The food was very good. Solid diner food. Good service. Very clean. I would definitely go back.

Classic diner slightly more expensive

By Lindha G |

Classic diner with great breakfast choices; omelets, sandwiches, really good porridge and exciting combinations eg Lumberjack breakfast.

A great breakfast

By RoadWarrier99999 |

Great stop for breakfast. Plenty of seating, prompt service, asked for vaccine cards, so we felt safe and comfortable. Broad selection of breakfast dishes. Great cappuccino, airy pancakes, crisp corned beef hash under eggs done just right. Go.

Disappointed....

By Felicia L |

Although well rated, we were disappointed with this restaurant. It's not very clean, it wasn't very good. The water tasted weird and the waiter was scary! He was staring at us, not smiling. In short... Move on.

Typic American's dinner

By Tamara A |

a good place for a big breakfast. 1 important point, wake-up early ! We are early birds so luckily they gave us a table immediately but when we left, we saw a queue of minim 30 people waiting for a table.

Classic NYC Diner

By Stacie T |

Delicious for any meal. Open late, real NYC Diner feel with a lot of hustle and bustle! Highly recommended for Breakfast!

Classic American Diner

By Stu Taylor |

Our first breakfast in New York and opted for classic diner, this place totally hit the brief. Great selection of food, served quick enough, staff attentive and kept the coffee topped up. Would go in again, only slight issue there was an extra charge for paying by card rather than cash.

Authentic old skool American diner

By Robert M |

Authentic old skool American diner experience! Processed cheese on the burgers, beautiful New York cheesecake, massive portions

Very nice, quick meal...good food & service

By kevinkorell |

I was staying at a nearby hotel, and needed a good meal while in the city. Ordered Matzoball soup and a hot open roast beef sandwich. Service was quick and professional. Prices were not at all that bad. This diner provides decent service and a very diverse menu. I've never run into a large crowd because it's slightly off the beaten track. I highly recommend this place if dining in the city.

Breakfast at the Starlight diner

By OwnYourself |

We ate here two years ago on a previous NY city trip and as we were located around the corner in Hudson Yards we decided to revisit. The breakfast was superb and the service was attentive. The meal was very reasonably priced and the atmosphere was absolutely authentic American diner. Highly recommended.

Great food

By Goldjonny5 |

We g ad breakfast here one morning, it was very nice the staff welcomed us and the service was great, the food came quick and was hot tastey and plentyfull if you want the authentic new york diner experience then this is the place

Better places than this

By Maznblue |

The staff was unfriendly the food was bland and orders incorrect. The restrooms were disgusting. Would not return

Traditional NY diner

By gilesh |

Traditional NY diner. We went for breakfast. Exactly as it should be. Super friendly waitress, coffee refills on tap and good food.

Nothing special

By Michele D |

Went here for breakfast and I got blueberry pancakes and bacon. Pancakes were a little tough but not too bad My daughter got the huevos rancheros and she said they were good. Great coffee. Service was slow even though it wasn't very busy.

Typical diner.

By Gordon B |

Comprehensive menu. I took the Rubibs, which was far from what I imagined. My wife,s bagel and cream cheese wzs exactly that. Our friends orders wdre ok.

The service sucks...

By Blingrich |

Okay let’s start with the good about this place, the portions were huge, the food was cheap and delicious, and it’s an all American diner what’s not to like, especially one in New York City. However, what really let this place down is the service, I found it hard to get any kind of smile, or even anyone’s attention and unfortunately that’s not good enough for me. In fact I expect more. So whilst the roast chicken was huge and lovely and the coconut and lemon cake probably the best I’ve had, I don’t think I’d go back because the service just wasn’t good enough, and not what I’ve come to expect in the US.

Great diner

By katherine M |

Great omelettes, really quick service very helpful and friendly staff, a really good choice of meals

What a great breakfast!

By Jason P |

Found this place not far from our hotel, was after some pancakes for breakfast. This diner didn’t disappoint, pancakes/bacon/maple syrup and was fantastic. Daughters tried the waffles and bagels. The menu is huge and for New York the prices aren’t bad. Service was excellent. Top marks.

Another Brilliant Breakfast

By twa203 |

A much anticipated return here. Really great food, classic surroundings, super friendly, helpful staff and great value.

Old style diner with fantastic food

By Fergus S |

Was looking for breakfast on our way to the Hudson Yard and had a superb breakfast here. Although the decor looks like it hasn’t been updated in decades I quite liked it .

Breakfast birthday meal

By Justin W |

My best friend and I went to the Skylight Diner after years of walking past it. I had always wanted to try it and she asked me if I wanted to go. So we tried the restaurant for a birthday breakfast. The food and the service were good but nothing great. I had 2+2+2 meal with two pancakes, two scrambled eggs and two pieces of sausage and bacon. It was good but nothing special. My friend had poached eggs with corned beef hash and potatoes. The corned beef hash was canned and nothing special. The meal was okay.

Typical NYC Diner, good experience

By Tesh |

Typical NYC diner. Our server was efficient, and friendly and was zipping around lightning fast. The only complaint I have is that my pancakes were burned. After letting our server know, only plate was promptly sent out.

Excellent, try the lemon meringue pie

By Paul B |

Food, and service excellent, very good value for money. Would highly recommend, just a short stroll from Hudson yards.

Not worth the money

By Dan S |

Order the corn beef hash and eggs, my wife ordered ham and eggs. Corn beef hash was canned crap and the ham was extremely thin piece of deli cooked ham. Coffee very week and tasteless. Wait staff nonattentive. McDonald's would of been a better choice.

Excellent

By Brian W |

Great NYC diner. Delicious food, attentive service, and perfect all around. One of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve had and my daughter loved her Belgian waffle.

Classic Diner -- Very Good Food

By Joseph M |

My favorite of the NYC diners. We've come here multiple times. The food is always good. It's classic diner fare. Giant Menu - something for everyone. Good service. Good value. Clean. This visit I had their Rueben ($18) - very good.

Wonderful diner !

By Natsfan24 |

Great classic diner. Friendly staff, large portions and tasty food. Perfect spot close to Hudson yards. Service was fast and coffee refills quick. Omelet was wonderful.

Great selection of generous servings

By Fredrik K |

Classic diner, close to many popular hotels and attractions. Great selection of different classics. Went for breakfast and had lovely italian omelette and tried the tasty pancakes. Decent pricing and fine service. Great place!

Not very clean, inattentive service

By SeaSal1 |

We just came in for coffee and cold pie which was very nice, but soon noticed how unclean it was around the table, the water cups weren't that clean and as for the toilets... so we were pretty glad we didn't order anything that needed to be cooked. Once we had what we'd ordered we were completely ignored.

Classic New York breakfast

By ThomasD |

For the all American typical New York diner the Skylight is a must. We stumbled across it on foot whilst heading for Chelsea. I had the ham and cheese omelette which was spot on! Seriously cheesy and very tasty. Blueberry muffins also amazing and unlimited coffee.. who can complain! Definitely worth a visit when in the area.

Convenient to train station

By Cassandra M |

I was avoiding this place after getting some pretty mediocre food in the past. It was just too convenient this time, and I figured not much could be done to mess up a salad. Some things are done well (burgers); others should be avoided (pastrami that looks like Spam). My spinach salad was decent; my partner's buffalo chicken sandwich was mediocre. Everything is over priced for the value.

Late lunch

By Tanya D |

Typical old fashioned American city diner. Simple lunch of soup and sandwiches. Low prices for NYC for a simple meal.

Worst diner experience on our trip

By Harveyd23 |

I was very much looking forward to eating at this diner. Well what a let down. The food was the worst on our whole trip. We went in for breakfast. I had bacon, sausage on a muffin. Bacon was very over cooked, no butter on offer just so dry. My wife had poached eggs and bacon. Came with a huge potato hash brown which was not nice. Eggs and bacon over cooked. Just not a good experience at all. To top it all off, you can’t even flush toilet paper down the toilet. Are we in New York City or a village in the forest of Thailand?

OMG - the Greek Yogurt 😋

By Tanya T. |

I found this place near our hotel (less than a 10-minute walk), and every step was worth it! I ordered Greek yogurt with granola and honey. My friend ordered oatmeal with sliced bananas and toast. I think I've been buying store-bought yogurt for too long. The Greek yogurt was thick with a creamy texture. The added granola and honey was like icing on the cake. I don't think I'll ever eat yogurt from a chain grocer again! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this restaurant. There's a wide variety of foods on the menu, and our waitress, Vicki, was a gem. My friend enjoyed the oatmeal—it was much better than another restaurant we tried the day before. Loved the "old" feel and smiles from the staff. They use terms of endearment instead of your name. Clearly, this place is a neighborhood favorite. I will be back!

Typical American diner with good service and food

By 19Nurse |

Very extensive breakfast menu - something for everyone. Staff were pleasant and food served quickly. Huevos rancheros dish was ok but I did have to add a lot of hot sauce to make it tastier. American breakfast was fine. I would definitely recommend and will return for another breakfast - different option - during my stay.

Relaxed and friendly with great wholesome and fresh food. A Gem.

By Steve B |

Wonderful place. Made us feel like we were part of the neighbourhood, even though we were tourists. Fantastic food, my fried chicken and portobello mushroom wrap was delicious and a lovely, busy atmosphere. My ‘go to’ eatery in Manhattan.

Best French Toast!

By Lidia C |

This diner has a nice look inside and it has the best french toast and bacon! Large menu too. Highly recommend!

Reasonably priced diner :)

By Jack Gordon |

Visited here a few times whilst I was staying nearby. I only visited during breakfast, but it was very nice, coffee was good, and the service was excellent. Prices aren't too bad for New York City, I liked this diner much much more than Tick Tock a few streets a long.

Greek-ish diner serving some of everything

By D. Aaronson |

I've only had breakfast here but there's a good variety of menu items and pastries up front to choose from. Excellent bagels as well. Generally food is out quickly and the staff is very experienced.

Best diner in Manhattan

By Laura D |

Loved this traditional no-frills American diner! Lots of choice on the menu. We had wraps with chips, which was great value, huge portion size and very tasty. Service was quick and friendly, couldn't ask for more.

Breakfast with family

By aog59 |

Omelettes were not nice, staff did not speak very good English….orange juice was rotten…toast wasn’t bad but would have preferred if I could have buttered my own toast….

Authentic American Diner

By Pembofamily |

This diner was recommended to us and we weren't disappointed. I am rating it 5 star but will also say there is nothing fancy about this place. It is 5 star because it is no-nonsense, great service, good quality, local diner food. I don't believe it is part of a chain and most diners when we visited appeared to be locals rather than tourists. As ever in America, food portions are more than ample and more modest eaters may want to share a plate. On our table, we ate the burgers, omlette, ceasar salad wraps etc.. and couldn't fault anything...except maybe the fact we had no space left for a dessert. Great place and we will go again next we're in NYC.

Quick and Tastey

By Bonita P |

On my way out of town, wanted to get lunch before and didn't want to go far from the Megabus stop. A friend reminded me about the Skylight Diner. I went in, so glad I was right before the lunch rush. Seated immediatley and my food was delivered n a very timely manner within placing my order. Nothing fancy, but the atmosphere of a neighborhood diner was there. Lots of people, families, all ages and I noticed all food was delivered in a quick manner. I don't have any complaints. The tab was within anyone's lunch budget. Their menu was extensive with breakfast, lunch and dinner items. The staff was friendly. It was hot as all get out, but the air conditioners was not extra cold, but just right, comfortable. It was a nice place to eat and talk. It had a great feel to it.

Great Diner

By Dawn M |

Had breakfast for dinner. Their menu was extensive. The food came out piping hot and was delicious. Service was good and also friendly. Only downside was no free refills on iced tea. It's the little annoyances that stick with you unfortunately.

A Friendly New York Diner

By Nosila |

Loved the inside, typical authentic New York American diner look, felt so cosy & was served by friendly waitress. Had breakfast of eggs bacon & toast with coffee. Did ask for a refill but she was busy so didn’t get it otherwise I would have rated this as a 5.

Skyline diner Nyc

By Julie W |

Best breakfast ever , fabulous service great atmosphere just what I expected from a diner lots of choice , we went there twice in our five day visit and wished we’d found it sooner
