This is a laid-back spot where you feel perfectly happy just getting a bite to eat and a glass of wine. The wine list is interesting, and there are pizzas for those who want beyond a cheese plate or a panini.

Went here with some friends for a girls wine night. Great atmosphere and fun sharing foods/tapas. Will definitely return!

Perfect little neighborhood wine bar, great late night italian snacks. Meatball sliders were the best.

Sofia's has a hefty wine list of wines by the glass. Most importantly, they take care of opened bottles - vacuum stoppers, and temperature control. It's a good place to venture into new tastes. We sat at the bar, and felt well taken care of by staff. Pair wines with a choice of fresh appetizers. The street will look better after a stop at Sofia's.

We had a late afternoon/early dinner (large snack) already and by 10 pm felt like a glass of wine with a snack. Much surprised at Sofia’s wine bar, just down the street from our hotel on Lexington/49th. Small, dark, very cosy/intimate. Great music list. Classical Italian menu. If I was more hungry I would have loved to have a full meal. Looked like really nice pizzas and pastas. We shared an appy of Mozzarella and tomato salad which was excellent and the way it should taste. Then we had filled mushroom caps and baby artichokes. Beautifully done. My wife had an Italian Sauvignon Blanc for $13/glass and she loved it, and I had a Supertuscan for $16/glass and was pleasantly surprised at the quality. Wine list extensive and affordable. Service was prompt, friendly and the waiter was happy to have a little chat too. Next time I’ll make sure to go on an empty stomach. They have an interesting fixed prix Sunday dinner that could be tempting too. Highly recommended.

I recommend a stop at Sofia Wine Bar if you are looking for a chill place to enjoy great wine and tasty small plates.

Great place to have a very nice bottle of wine and a bite to eat. Great cosy atmosphere. The place looks and feels like it's been running by the same people for many years. Well recommended

Great happy hour spot. On a Thursday night it was slow, once after 630/7 it picked up, but not overly busy. The wine list is deeper than a lot of other wine bars I've been to so I enjoyed that rather much. Also their charcuterie was tasty as well, although their baguette game could use some improvement. There's a few seating areas I believe, we sat in the front, but there's a back room and what seemed like a small garden down stairs. We plan to return in two more days. Great service too.

Godawful/undistinguished/expensive/small portions/served barely warm insult to Italian Cuisine -- but the server was pleasant!

This is a great little venue that shuts out the all craziness that is NYC. It's a very elegant bar with great lighting and a reasonable wine list. We used it on a number of occasions during our week in Midtown. Easy to hibernate in here at the end of the day and debrief. Like everything in New York, sure, it gets busy but in a cosmopolitan - not crazy - kind of way. The wines could be a bit more premium and selectively international instead of just relying on famous regions but we could always find something to suit. Highly recommended!

My wife and I went here for a light meal and some wine on Father's Day after seeing a Broadway show, as it was only about a block from our hotel. The place has terrific atmosphere from the minute you walk in. The food was great and the wine superb. The wait staff were very attentive. The bartender ( Richie) was great. After dinner we went to the bar and met a "regular" and had some great conversation with him as well as our bartender, who made us feel as though we were regulars. This place also has a lovely garden dining area which we will definitely try out on our return to NYC. In fact my wife and I will be making this great place a regular stop any time we visit NYC

Sofia Wine Bar An extremely tiny, cozy, VERY casual and inviting “hole in the wall” pizzeria and wine bar with tasty pizzas and a good wine list. The staff and food is so authentically, warmly Italian. Andrea is such a sweet, accommodating and delightful server that we seek him out whenever we go to Sofia. The pizzas are quite good, with the bolognese and burrata pizza a delicious standout. Mike’s hot honey white pizza is a more traditional, yet quite tasty pizza as well. Vegetarian and gluten free options are plentiful (great Caesar and other salads and cheese/ meat boards). The service is so sweet and the pizzas are very good. While the atmosphere is VERY close, compact, small and casual, Sofia is a such a good place to go for an easy, tasty and comfortable dinner.

Sofia was recommended by a staff member of the Kimberly Hotel as being a respite for two weary travelers looking for a late night bite. Cozy atmosphere, good wine selection and tasty appetizers.

Great wines, great Italian vibe. Small plates of delicious food. Can't wait to go back. The bartender is from Italy and makes you feel like you are in the center of Tuscany. A truly special place in the heart of NYC.

We landed in NYC about 2:45 wrangled through traffic for more than 90 minutes and finally got settled into our Midtown East apartment. We located Sofia and they told us about a 30 minute wait. We wandered down the street to another wine bar, shared a bottle and went back to Sofia. We had to wait again, but they did give us a free glass of sparkling rose - and when we were seated, were lucky enough to be on the patio. It had a lovely, homey feel, very Mediterranean look. The wine list was phenomenal, our wait person knew exactly what we were looking for as far as region and price point. We had 2 pies - just perfectly done. Crispy crust, nice amount of sauce and toppings. What a great way to start our NYC adventure! :) Love this place, highly recommend.

While the wine was good, the prices fair, the atmosphere appropriate, the loud music was not conducive to a wine bar atmosphere. We would have stayed for more wine, but there was a wine bar with a more relaxing atmosphere right around the corneer.

Took a while to find it as there was snow and we could not see the awning. Very quaint, nice atmosphere. My wife and I ate there after arriving in the city for a weekend. Great wine selection. Had a couple of great apps and relaxed. Excellent spot for small groups or nice romantic outing for two.

My husband & I went there on our first night in NYC and were not disappointed. Leo made us feel right at home and although our intention was to just have one glass of wine and go elsewhere , we ended up staying for their pizza and more wine! Leo took the time to talk to us, explain everything we needed to know and even when it got busier, we did not feel neglected for one second. By far the cosiest, non-pretentious wine bar we had been to . Would highly recommend, and say hi to Leo, he is an ambassador for the bar .

Came here while staying at the Waldorf . About three blocks away but happily unpretentious, and everyone welcome. We came early and there was a mix of people having a drink and eating. It's small, and can be loud but in a good way, because everyone seems to be enjoying themselves. We had a salad, some Caprese (homemade Mozerella) excellent, and a very good pizza. The wine list is extensive with both by the bottle and the glass. Bottles are reasonably priced and some pretty good selections. For New York was reasonable and we certainly came away full.

Sofia is small, quaint and cosy. On a cold night, it was a lovely find. Pizzas, mac n cheese and tapas are to die. The wines are excellent, the staff are fun, the food is delicious. If you go during peak time, they will squeeze you in somewhere, no matter how busy. You are family!

Sofia was all we wanted just after arriving Friday at NYC for the weekend after the Christmas tree lighted up in Rockefeller Center. A place with good food and a great hang-out for the local crowd. We ordered the platter with the best meatballs, bruschetta, stuffed mushrooms, artichokes and more. For dessert the lava cake was excellent. Recommend this place!

This place isn't huge, but has room around the bar and seating in the back. The wine selection is fantastic and the bartenders and staff are helpful with recommendations and offerings. Check the specials and definitely check out the cheese plates.

Was in town for business, and this adorable, intimate place was two blocks away. They have a lengthy and varied wine list, and the food is outstanding. Service is personable, attentive and not overbearing. Definitely worth checking out if you are looking for a casual, low key place with great wine and food. Cheers!

i saw some people write this was a romantic spot...not so... at first the dark vibe and small space might make you think it is but with people crowded one on top of another and loud music i do not think so. food is WAY overpriced......ordered appetizers. and a glass of wine...... someone said for a similar price you could get a reasonable sized pizza. there instead of appetizers....unfortunately did not see the pizza to confirm this.....the wine selection is very good......so if you just want a glass of wine or two ..that may be the extent to which you should order even being mindful of Manhattan prices i would not go there again because the prices were disproportionate to what you were served..... also the service was rushed

Came by with some girlfriends. They have about 20 reds and 20 whites by the glass so it was definitely my kind of place. I didn't get to try any of the food, so I can't comment on that. Service was attentive. Atmosphere is busy but relaxed. It's also VERY dark, so maybe a good place for a date? If you already know what the other person looks like...

With no reservation or recommendation from friends we stumbled onto this place. Cosy, small (like most NY restaurants), and well decorated. Very friendly and attentive staff (there when you need them). Reasonably priced wine, good appertizers, and awesome main courses. Dishes are not huge, but very good. As a couple, sharing an appertizer before the main cource is a good amount of food. All in all, excellent job. We loved it. We will be back.

A local friend recommended this wine bar to us. It's tiny with about 12 tables and a bar area and was packed Friday evening, but the ambience was great. Rough, wooden interior with the focus on all kinds of small light and candle holders. They have a good selection of wine, and the pizzas looked great. We had the South African Pinotage, at $14 per glass.

Very warm and cozy place. A wide variety of wines. The food was very tasty. Quiet and elegant place to enjoy your drink. Nice music too.

I hate it, visit this place on a Friday night, my server got mad because I complain about the music, it was way toooooo loud, a feel girls were singing and he was enjoy the show stead of taking care of the tables. Ridiculous loud place. Just hate it.

I was looking for a small, charming boutique style restaurant/wine cafe/bar in the eastside area. I found Sofia Wine Bar and Café. Walking up to the entrance, we were met with lights decorating the walk and immediately set the tone for the ambiance I was hoping for. I had called ahead to see if they take reservations, but was told I could just walk in. Almost as though they saved a table for me, our party of 4 entered to find a lovely table by the window waiting for us. The interior is dimly lit, romantic, cozy and inviting. Although small, the brick walls and décor transport you to Europe. We enjoyed a most delightful evening with our friends and had great service. The pizza and wine were also very enjoyable and I would highly recommend Sofia Wine Bar and Café.

If you like a small intimate setting this would be a nice choice in Midtown. The bartender was more than generous with his pour, very accomodating with tasting new wines. They are partial to Italian wines which is to my liking. All of their wines they serve are temperature controlled.

The food, service and atmosphere was AMAZING! My favorite food stop in NYC so far. Quick service and super friendly servers that remembered us after our first visit.

This was my first trip to New York and went with a friend. We were tired from walking all day and were looking for someplace close to our hotel. An internet search revealed the Sofia Wine Bar. We split the spinach artichoke dip, a margherita pizza and had a glass of wine a piece and got out for under $50 with tip! The dip was good but the hit was definitely the pizza! The place is SMALL and we were lucky to get there early enough that there were tables available but it was full when we left. The service may have been a bit slow, they didn't ask if I wanted a second glass of wine and I had to catch their eye to get the bill but we really enjoyed sitting down to relax with the open windows and people watching.

We come here every time we are in the city. They have an excellent selection of wines and the food is very good. The meatballs, cheese platter, and spinach dip are our favorites. It gets very busy so if you want a seat at the bar, you need to come early - before 5:30pm. The bar staff are very friendly and service is terrific. Definitely recommend whether stopping for a glass of wine or spending the evening.

We sort of tripped over this restaurant on our last visit to NYC when we were looking for a light meal within walking distance of the Waldorf Astoria. The menu is limited but sufficient and the dishes work well with the extensive wine listings. The service was outstanding. We received wonderful recommendations for food and wine from our server. He talked us through our likes and dislikes before making a reasonably priced recommendation that was pleasurably enjoyed. We also like that the floorplan is broken up to create small, comfortable tables.

Nice place, cozy bar very well furbished and that could be a romantic spot for a drink with your loved one, a first date or a blind date. Great place also for small groups who want to enjoy good wine in a soft atmosphere. Excellent if, as it was for me, you are walking in the neighborhood and looking for a place where to sit quiet with your book to read. Why not 4 full circles? well, when I was there I saw the bar tender opening a Red Italian wine and, unfortunately, break the cork and consequently find small pieces also in the glass....instead of changing the glad and throw out the wine...he hide a bit and worked with a fork to clean the wine from the small pieces! I know that happens everywhere...I don't expect any place in the world to change your wine or bottle in this case...but when you see the scene happening for real, well it remains. Overall, a great place...just give a look when they open the bottles! Go there.

We arrived early (5.30pm) on a Sunday before catching a flight later that evening, and were the first people there, but we didn't need to worry as it soon filled up. It's very friendly and warm, so we felt very welcome. The menu is short but excellent with a pasta special - all home cooked with great ingredients. We tried the wines they recommended, which were great, and we had a really lovely evening. We will definitely go back when we are next in NYC

We were staying nearby and tried this place out on our first night in town. It set the bar for our stay and no other restaurant met this standard. Just a lovely quaint cafe, delectable wine selection and wonderful staff.

Love Sofia Wine Bar. The entire staff is so wonderful - they know so much about their wines and always provide a great dining experience. Wines are amazing, as is the food, not to mention the cozy atmosphere.

Probably the biggest selling point for Sophia is its charm -- it is a small cozy intimate place, very pretty and sweet. Nice wine selection. The food is simple -- pizzas, paninis, chacuterie and the like, but fresh and good. I had an arugula salad, ample and well dressed and the eggplant parmigian -- it was tasty, albeit a little overwhelmed by its tomato sauce. Vegetable in both very fresh and tasty.

Great place. Great crowd. Great food. Visited twice over a long weekend, and will happily go back next time I am in New York. Highly recommend.

We were in NYC in January 2013 and couldn't get in. It's tiny and easy to miss but we were staying down the street. Back again in January 2014 and finally made it through the door. What a find. Food was great - appetizer type menu and a great wine list. We left stuffed and satisfied. Service was terrific. So good that we went back again the next night.

We stopped in prior to dinner in the area one evening… This is a quaint wine bar with a cute back patio. Their wine list is decent and service was friendly and decent as well. The place is really beautiful though, a lot like a wine basement or cozy wine bar. They offer a decent small plate menu too. We really enjoyed our visit!

When I lived in NYC I was a regular. By that, I mean that my wife and I were there about every 7-10 days. What's better than a glass of wonderful wine in a great and comfortable setting? Having the ability to choose between 80 or so wines by the glass paired with wonderful food. My favorites included their meatballs, their pizza and they also had a prosciutto and melon that my wife loved. And when you're feeling decadent their chocolate lava cake with the vanilla bean ice cream was incredible. Top that good food off with amazing and friendly service, how could you go wrong? Tommy and the crew will always take great care of you.

We visit Sofia wine bar every time we come to NYC, and loved it just as much this time as previous visits - a real neighborhood-style place in the city, a relaxed and warm atmosphere, and great, simple food. The service was excellent, and the wine selection and quality is superb. Sofia will continue to be our 'go to' place whenever we're in town.

Such a beautiful place , with great waiters . I'm working on the whine and they Really have a menu for everyone if u just want a little whine or a great experience with a beautiful bottle you can ask to the waiter he Will give you some good advice , i had a glasse of brunello di montalcino Who was obviously too young but the waiter admit it and recommand me a 10 year old brunello ( that's the good Time for That kind of bottle ) . For the food its only snack and just ok but you Will forgot That with all these good whine ;)

Small restaurant in a brownstone; we ate at the bar so as not to have to wait for one of the small tables. Quite busy and bustling-- not a place for a quiet conversation. Food very good, and a large wine selection (both bottles and by the glass).

lovely wine, service and atmosphere, a surprising find for this area. there are so many chains and eateries with no atmosphere around here but sophia's is warm, friendly and a lovely candlelit buzzing atmosphere! a must visit if you are staying locally

we had snacks and some great wine options. I went with my husband and almost 3 year old. It was not a kid friendly place but they did their best to accomidate us. The food was really yummy

We stopped in for a glass of wine and really loved the vibe in this place. The bartender was very friendly and helped me pick out a nice glass of red. Although we didn't order anything to eat the food smelled amazing. Great place to tuck into for a nice glass of vino!

This is a GREAT wine bar. Not a bar that serves wine but a wine bar. They have so many great options of wine by the glass and a good selection by the bottle as well. The environment is small but very welcoming. The food is great and the service is as well. I always stop by here for a glass or two when in NYC. It's nice to get away from all the tourists and enjoy some wine at a classy place like this.

In NY for business, stopped at Sofia's last night. Food: The food itself is rather good, tasty and portions are decent - European size. I had the Homemade mozzarella and tomato salad for starters, with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar on top, simple and flavorful. I also had the lasagna: rich, hearty and quite good. This is a pricey neighborhood, so don't be unrealistic. Starters are $8-12 on average, entrees $16-22. Expect to pay about $40 pp including a drink. Drinks: I had ordered a Sangria on the side - 15 minutes later, I was still waiting for it. The manager reminded the waiter to bring a Sangria to my table. 5-10 minutes later: no sangria still. While the service pales in comparison to the food, I appreciated that the glass of sangria was offered on the house, after I waited for about 25 minutes. Sadly, I must say I've had better sangria. Should have gone for a glass of Primitivo perhaps! Service: this is the main reason why I've given Sofia's a 3 out of 5. No one really checked on me the entire time I was there; add this to the fact that when I asked for a glass of Sangria, I had to wait 25 min to be served -- and thus didn't get to enjoy it with my meal. The guys seemed quite friendly though. Decor: such a lovely, small place! I really enjoyed the antique decor and dimmed lights which make for an intimate setting, though the place is quite loud. However, no one noticed that I didn't have a candle on my table; which would have been appreciated. Overall the food was good but I doubt I would go back.

We love finding little spots like this off the beaten path. With great aesthetics and low light mood, this wine bar is the perfect place to get away from the bustle and noise of the city and sit back and relax. They had great pizza, apps, and wine selection. We walked in and sat at the bar, but they regularly require reservations to my knowledge. Staff was a little distant for my liking, but perhaps that’s the New Yorker way.

Sofia's wine bar was an exciting little find a few years ago. I still enjoy visiting there. It's small and tight, probably not comfortable for all. Rustic tables and chairs, brick walls, low lighting. Music a bit too loud for an intimate venue. Many selections by the glass, and a perfect pour in the nicely shaped glassware. Nice menu for light eating. So welcome after spending too much time in big restaurants. Relaxing and nice vibe. The food is always just right. The argula salad is more than enough for a couple, or for 4 when ordering other small plates. Love the herbed olives. Mozzerella and tomato salad with pressed flatbread is nice. Definitly a younger clientele in the 11:00pm on time frame. Girls night out, perfect time is around 4 - 8pm. Love this spot.

Amazing dim lite romantic date night spot. Bottle of wine, shrimp cocktail, perchutto & mozzarella makes the perfect munchies. The great staff is always attentive & welcoming!

My husband and I came in for wine and a cheese and meat plate and weren't disappointed. The service is great, the selections are varied, and the place is very cozy, not at all touristy.

Was recommended and did not disappoint. Excellent pizza and intimate interior. Did not have a reservation on a Friday night but were able to be seated promptly. Friendly service.

Go early and enjoy.. pizzas are amazing ans so is the service and wine recommendations.. you won't want to tell anyone! I almost hesitated to post this! My new fav in midtown......

Great place for a drink! The patio on the street was nicely decorated with flowers and string lights. The service was quick and we enjoyed our time together with friends. We didn’t eat there, just had wine and a cheese board.

Leo and the gang there are fantastic and made a guy and his wife who live in Dallas (we are not Cowboy fans) feel like family! We spend 2 out of 3 nights closing the bar down! Go there....you will love it!

My husband and I, along with my siblings, were in NYC just for the day to take in a show and have dinner. We were between events when we realized we wanted to stop somewhere for a drink and found this gem on google maps. This is a cute, small wine bar with well-priced wine, a nice selection, food that smelled and looked great (although we did not eat it, it sure looked good!) and a very friendly staff. It was a nice surprise in a big city and I would definitely recommend it again. The staff really made the difference, and I can't say enough about the charming decor inside and out.

Food was great, we had pizza and it was as good as pizza in Italy. The wine was very nice. Eva was great! Definitely recommend Sofia’s!

Stumbled across this place by accident and realised we had been here about 8 months before. What a delight. Despite being very busy the staff accommodated us and sat us down. Wine choices were superb and reasonably priced. Burrata truffle pizza was amazing and fresh and the Sofia meat and cheese board was excellent. We will make this a regular call on our NYC excursion.

Absolutely love this place. Quaint, charming, great service, and good wine. What's not to love? The cheese boards and pizza are also delicious!

Stopped by for a late lunch, had some excellent wine and food. Staff were very friendly. Strongly recommend Sofia Wine Bar.

Food was decent, wine was poured full, a nice treat...ambiance can't be beat at Christmas time. Service was fantastic.

We found this wine 6 blocks from our Mansfield Hotel and thought we try it before going to dinner. It was very crowded by 6.30 pm and about 30 people came in whilst we were drinking one glass of wine. I had a delicious Scilian Nero D'Avola and my wife had a Californian Chardonnay. Both were excellent but the noise level was far too loud. One could hardly carry out a conversation by 7.00 pm and so we left! The wines are quite expensive and of course there is always tax to be added! Interesting.

There is no where to sit while waiting for your party and they are VERY insistent, even with empty table wait outside. The place packs em in by 6 ....you will need to shout to have a "conversation"....

This place is awesome, great food ( pizza is amazing). The service is really good, amazing attention and prices are really good. Great for a dinner date.

This place is a little gem. It’s so warm, cozy and inviting. Although it’s a tight space, the overall vibe was outstanding. From the food (handmade pasta, grass fed meatballs, pizza, etc.), to the authenticity, the brick design, the art, the music, the wine…My kids loved it as well! I will definitely be back! I’d definitely recommend this for an intimate 1-1 setting / date.

Loved this tapas bar in Mid town! If you are lonely and in need of a hug! Stop by this place to feel welcome and over the top tapas food! Bartenders make sure you feel like you have been missed at this location, even if they just met you:) If you are a guy...perfect place to meet lonely girls, since it's packed with them!!!

Had a great Friday happy hour experience! Place was hopping, but server configured a table for 4. Fresh Pizza and meatballs were a great accompaniment to wines.

This is a small wine bar. The wine list is good and reasonably affordable for New York. Its a bit tight to be honest in terms of the seating but if your petite it would be perfect. in fact the atmosphere is excellent. It tries to do food and we tried the 3 breads with toppings. These were OK. i tried the lasagne however and this was like something you might serve up to children. slightly more damning is that you point this out to the waiter and he is not so impressed. however a slightly more discerning Italian gives us a credit for the Lasagne and a wine. so where do you go with this. If you just want wine and are not so bothered about space it really is excellent. Get the right person serving and they take the comment on the food in the manner it is delivered...to be helpful. If they sorted the food actually you would put up with it being cozy. in fact it would be a place you would frequent on going.

A beautiful place where drink a good wine, taste some delicious meatballs and meet beautiful people!

Met a friend here and fell in love with this place! This wine bar is refreshingly not swanky. The bohemian decor and dim lighting, in conjunction with upbeat music makes it a really unique spot. Food is great and the wine list is well priced and has fantastic choices. My favorite part of this place was the wines by the glass-- found two of my favorite wines from Campania that I rarely find anywhere else! Bartender was a real nice guy too. Definitely will return when I am in the neighborhood.

This place is very special. The staff are adorable, very vivacious, funloving and knowledgable. They have at least as much fun as their clientele! We ended up going here 3 nights out of 7 in NYC, just loved it. They have a great selection of wine by the glass, I told the waiter specifically my likes and dislikes and he came up trumps every time. The place was buzzing every night we were there. Lots of candles, so romantic. The pizzas and oysters were great. Really intimate and cozy.

Wine list is not bad but overpriced. We asked what their most famous course was hence We ordered pizza. It definitely looked like pizza but the dough was terrible. I am Italian so I can easily tell.... Overall check was quite steep. The ambience is nice but music is too loud to allow for conversation without having to yell!

This restaurant was hiding from us! On our recent trip to Manhattan, we stumbled onto it due to Its close proximity to our hotel. We had a fabulous meal in this lovely little ambient restaurant. They currently have indoor and outdoor seating, the food is wonderful. Great wine list! They have a downstairs outdoor patio available as well. We later heard it’s difficult to get in normally so we feel very lucky to now know about it.

This was a great find. I highly recommend this neighborhood wine bar, pizza and small plate restaurant. The service was friendly and helpful. For a small plate I suggest the beggars purses. The Sangiovese blend that was recommended paired very well with the small plate and the meat and cheese platter we shared as a starter. This was a very relaxed and friendly experience. We will definitely go back.

After fleeing the hotel "Lounge" (aka dance Club) where we hoped to enjoy the view and light fare, we wandered into Sofia. It's small and a bit crowded but the atmosphere was so warm and comfortable that the crowding seemed intimate. We had the Bruschetta trio with a meat and cheese platter, sipped a nice Sauvignon Blanc and relaxed while enjoying the conclusion to a wonderful evening.

We went here on our last night in New York. We ended up staying here all evening and consuming a ridiculous quantity of wine! Food was very good, wine too. Staff were laid back and less 'in your face' than in other US restaurants but as a Brit this was a appreciated.

We found this delightful wine bar online. It was a short walk from our hotel and was absolutely perfect for our evening. Sofia's is a small wine bar and all tables and the bar were filled when we arrived. There were a few chairs for us to use inside as we waited(pouring rain outside so outside was not an option for us). We (my husband, daughter, and I) chose a bottle of wine and chatted and sipped our delicious wine while we waited. Most of the customers were many years younger that my husband and me, but the staff made us feel welcome and that we were part of the regulars at this special place. When we got a table, we ordered the spinach artichoke dip, meatball sliders, Bianco pizza, and the prosciutto Mozzarella panini. Everything was excellent. The atmosphere in this lovely place was perfect for my birthday (70) celebration on my first night in New York City. They even brought a special treat for my birthday. Perfect in every way!

We dined at Sofia prior to restaurants reopening in the makeshift outdoor area. It was nice to be out and the plywood box was not the best atmosphere but the staff, food and the wines more than offer all that for a nice evening. We will be back!

I had dinner there on August 12th and I had a great time there. People at the restaurant treated me very nicely. The food was so delicious and the glass of French Rose was also delicious 😋. Sofia's Wine Bar is small but elegant. I love the atmosphere there. I would come back to Sofia's Wine Bar when I am in Midtown Manhattan. I would strongly recommend people to have dinner there.

Was meeting up with someone who was staying nearby and took a chance with going to Sofia's as I have never been there. The two people I met up with are huge wine drinkers and both said the wine was great and the selection very good. I am not a huge wine drinker so I would not feel comfortable even reviewing that part of it but I trust their opinions. The atmosphere is quaint and inviting but be prepared to be very close to other patrons. If you are wanting a private place to talk and hang out, I would not choose this restaurant or bar but if you are just hanging out and don't mind hearing other people's conversation and vice versa then have at it. The food was limited and we knew this but everyone liked what they ordered. This bar is for drinking wine and not for foodies.

This quaint place has a great atmosphere and it was nice to try out various wines with a few snacks. The food was really good but a bit over priced considering it was pretty a basic menu for a city like New York with so many options around

Tiny, tiny place but with huge ambiance! You will be lucky to get a table after 4:30pm any day. If you do, they have great appetizers and a nice selection of wine.

Great neighborhood spot. We just happened upon it as we were staying in a hotel nearby. Went with three tweens and they loved the food. It seemed like most of the patrons were locals. It is small, but there is also an outdoor dining shed. I’ll be back when I’m back in the city next week.

My husband and I were looking for a Glass of wine and a light bite. We were walking and found this great little wine bar with exceptional crispy pizza. We also had the fresh mozzarella and proscietta which was delicious. The staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgable. The only problem we had was that it was dark inside and difficult to read the menu....but the "darkness" made it very intimate and a great spot for a night out with your partner! Would definitely go back when in the area. Great wine by the glass too! Try it!

I can't say enough good things about Sofia! My husband and I found it a few years back and now it is a staple dinner when we visit the city. We sat at the bar and had the BEST service. From helping us choose a bottle of red wine to go with our dinner to offering advice about the menu, there is nothing better than having knowledgeable staff. I hate I didn't get our bartender's name, but this guy deserves a raise. We got the bolognese burrata pizza and we both savored every piece. We also split the pesto pasta and it was very good and a little lighter. We are not generally a fan of tiramisu, but, I would have it again in a heartbeat here. The overall experience was nothing short of extraordinary. There are plenty of fancier restaurants, but none with the charachter and overall lovliness of Sofia!

We were looking for a cozy wine bar and found it! We'd actually stopped in the night before but couldn't grab a seat, so we came back earlier the next night and scored. Nice wines, nice bites. Very cute spot.

A nice hidden gem in midtown. I’ve walked by this place and it’s always packed. Passed by 4/29/24 and got a table. Love the quaintness of the place and the pizza we ordered was great! We ordered something out of the ordinary… I think the pizza had honey 🍯 mixed in .. Service was perfect and the pricing was good for midtown.

I Came here solo with a reservation. I ordered a salad and meatballs and a glass of wine, so it was a good order. Salad for $16 and meatballs were not that warm. Ok. But the waiter was rushing me. Wanted to take away my plate before i was finished eating. Brought bill before I asked and left it on table, saying youre all finished?. Rude. If you do not want a single guest, dont accept my res. My bill was $ 60 and I deserve a leisurely meal. Quite upset

Came here for my birthday with a group of 10 and they don't do reservations aside from in the little back room. We had to guarantee a minimum spend of $55 per head. I was told I could have up to 12 people on the table, we had 10 and it was a super squeeze- 12 would have been ridiculous. The atmosphere is good overall and the wine selection was good. We had lots of pizzas, mac n cheese, the spinach and artichoke ip was especially good as were the meatball sliders but the eggplant crostini wasn't recommended. Service was better at the start of the evening than later on when I had to go to the front and ask for plates and glasses to be cleared as they had been sitting there so long. The only other thing was that we had booked but we had people standing for a while when they got there because the place was waiting for people to leave at the front of the bar in order to have enough chairs! It was sorted fairly quickly but a bit odd. The only other minor note is that he only soft drinks they serve are coke and diet coke (no lemonade, sprite, juice or anything) I hadn't realised this and one of my friends is pregnant so it was a really limited choice! They kindly put a candle in my dessert for my birthday and the chocolate lava cake was gorgeous! Overall, I'd pop by here again but probably just with 2 or 4 people so we could soak up the atmosphere in the main part at the front.

We can't say enough about the Sofia Wine Bar and Cafe. The decor is incredibly charming and everything about the cafe makes you feel welcome and appreciated. We were there on 2 different evenings and all the staff were amazing as was the food and wine. It gets very busy and loud but the staff go out of their way to seat you asap. Although we were there as tourists, the cafe seems to attract a neighborhood crowd.

Overall I had a great experience here and would definitely go back. I had the gnocchi which was excellent, along with the chocolate lava cake. My only complaint was that they had a private party coming in, so I just felt a bit rushed to leave. They did tell me right away when I walked in so I knew. But they were getting ready for the party so the service I would say was slightly lacking. But I think on a normal day this would be a fantastic wine bar and I plan to visit again!

Visited Sophia wine bar. Had a pizza and the meat and cheese plate plus meatballs. Also nice bottle of Portugal Red. Service was great and the ambience was very nice. Also had the olives! My daughter says it’s one of her favorites, and I have to agree! Highly recommend!

We popped in here just before Christmas for a drink before dinner and I’m so glad we did! Such a cute, cosy bar with amazing wines, I would recommend it highly it did not disappoint

One of our favorite places to go and take people who come in from out-of-town. Food is consistently good, atmosphere is great (can be a little loud because the place is very small), and we have always had solid service. Tiramisu is one of the best I've had. There pizza and salad are also excellent. No reservations taken so it can be a little bit of a wait if you go on a weekend or Thursday night. Wouldn't recommend for a larger party but great for a couple or group of 4. Good place to get some wine and share some food

Found this little wine bar on E50th by accident and returned on three consecutive nights. Friendly knowledgeable staff, nice wine glass and very good pizzas and cold plates make this a worthy replacement to Divine Bar East which we missed terribly on our visit to N.Y.C. last year. recently celebrated it's 1st birthday, we look forward to being there again next year.

This small wine bar has a lovely atmosphere. The wine selection is mainly focused on Italian wines. We really enjoyed the time we spent here though it is slightly pricey. I would certainly go back anyway as the place was really enjoyable.

Stopped to this resstaurant just for a glass of wine. Ended up have a couple glasses of wine and just plain delicious food. We had a sampler platter and everything on it was fabulous. The artichoke hearts and stuffed mushrooms were great as welll as the meatballs. The bruchetta was excellent especially the olive tapenade. Went back again and had the pizza. Wonderful. The waiters and owner are very welcoming and friendly. Would definitely go back again.

We ended up at Sofia because our original choice was closed due to a broken pipe. Very limited menu, but food was very good. It is very small and intimate. Because it is so small, the table next to us was very close and we felt like we were part of their conversation, a little off-putting, but not terrible. It is very cozy and inviting. I great place for a light bite and glass of wine.

Wow! We couldn't have asked for more, Sofia's was particularly welcoming and full of ambiance. To sum up Sofia's - cosy, welcoming decor - friendly, knowledgeable staff -fresh, tasty food -excellent wine list Don't miss a lovely hour or two here!

Very nice romantic, beautiful decor, good food and wine. This is a keaper. A place worth going back to. No problem letting you taste a number of wines before chousing and good size glass if you order by the glass.

Visited Sofia Wine Bar the other evening for a light dinner. We shared the full monty of small meals. Every one of them was very good, not only the meatballs recommended to us of Wine Lover friends. The wine list by the glass was short when it came to US wines. Only one red Cab S blend from Oregon was available, but in the other hand it was really good to the price. We missed some non-alcoholic drinks other than water and soda, for example juices. The place was small and intense with a high level of noice due to the many guests in a relatively small place. We had a small table in the back up agains a cold brick wall, however not the noise as in the main room. Anyway, it was a fine experience, and we can certainly recommend the place.

What a place surprise! Sofia has a warm atmosphere. This is a neighborhood wine bar. The wait staff were very friendly. It was beautifully decorated and felt like we were in a country inn.

So stoked I finally got to go here. Cute little Italian spot in midtown east... romantic ambiance with small intimate tables and a bar. Perfect for a date, or catching up with a friend. Order some wine, olives and a cheese plate. Waiters are cool and attentive, service is great. Can't wait to come back with my boyfriend!

A small group of co-workers brought me here after work. I was skeptical of food from a wine bar, but left impressed. Sofia is not spacious which is my only complaint. I still give it 5 stars because the food was really good as well as the wine. Sofia is definitely a hidden gem in Manhattan that deserves to be experienced by all wine lovers.
Great Atmosphere and Wine!
We were looking for a wine bar with some light fare. Sofia was just perfect! The atmosphere was cozy, intimate and friendly. We waited at the bar for our seats, where we tasted some beautiful wines. The small plates of cheeses were the perfect pairing with our wine.Highly recommend this restaurant for a real New York city experience.
