Nice atmosphere and delicious food

By Adriana G |

Very nice people. Our children were very excited. The staff was very friendly, the food was served very quickly. Always happy to come back

Do not go there.

By Tomek_D |

Extremely disappointed with my dining experience here. The staff is very rude and the waiter who served me barely spoke English. I ordered gluten-free pizza which looked like a round piece of toasted bread and tasted likewise. It was burnt, very very dry and not tasty at all. Finally, I was charged with 20% tip/service fee which I couldn't opt out of even though the service and my meal were not tip-worthy. I had a meal at L'Amore the other day and loved the experience. My dinner at Sofia's was the exact opposite of it.

Poor service; mediocre food

By SueAM11 |

We made a bad choice to go here for lunch while in Little Italy - pursuaded by the man standing outside, who showed no interest once we walked in. The waiter was unpleasant & unhelpful. He served me a small bottle of beer (same cost) when I'd ordered a draft pint. No explanation or apology.. he just seemed to think that was ok. The food was ok but really nothing special. There's a lot of choice of restaurants on the street. I'd avoid this place.

This Place Needs a Visit From Gordon Ramsay

By LA R |

Stepped in here unplanned... "Home made, home made" "Don't like it, don't pay" Utter nonsense to pull you in. Starter comes, clearly from a box out of the freezer with a tomato sauce with chopped garlic..... no amount of garlic (enough to sink a ship) can disguise something as "home made". Finished my starter pretty unimpressed and nip to the toilet. The stairs are filthy and inside the restaurant is dated. Toilets stunk of urine and two of which were blocked by faeces. Hoped for good things for the main course but little did we know the worst was still to come. The pizza was average ( we had 2 toppings and were hit with a price tag of $27 for 10") Pasta was disgusting. We ordered lasagne. The table next to us ordered lasagne too and they were unimpressed too. So 2 glasses of wine, 2 beers, one cheese starter, pizza and pasta $124. Absolutely ridiculous. Even once I complained they removed the lasagne at $21, they had still charged us gratuity and left this charge on the bill knowing we weren't satisfied. The New Yorkers next to us had no gratuity on their bill!! Foreigner = $$$. Crockery was cracked, service mediocre, food poor and cost through the roof. It's the sort of place the Gordon Ramsay needs to visit for an episode. It's straight terms...... avoid like the plague.

Very bad food, tourist Trap

By diego2000b |

Either the food comes from a can, or the cook man is very bad. Anyway the food was not good at all and it was way too expensive. They include 18% of service in an arbitrary way, they don't deserve a dime. Very disapointing restaurant

Sloppy but could be good

By Milan V |

Waited way too long for a pizza and a pasta, there was only 2 other people currently eating l. Service was poor as they “automatically” put in a 20% tip. This service wasn’t worth that big of a tip. They also charged us for 4 drinks which apparently you don’t get free refills. We only drank 3. On the positive side the food was good.

Wonderful experience

By linda |

We took our high school music group from Nebraska here for a 7 course meal experience. The staff was wonderful! They were kind and did a great job serving our group of 28. I'm of Italian origin and know good Italian food and this is the real deal! The pastas were succulent and the chicken marsalla was mouthwatering! The kids had never seen appetizers like those served and I truly wish I could have taken all of it home! If you are in New York, Sofia's needs to be on your list of places to eat!

Great Food in Little Italy

By VikingJake |

We decided on this place largely because of the hostess, Andrea. She even said, "If you don't like, I pay"! There was no need for her to pay, the food was great! In our party we had the branzino special and fruitti de mare with lobster and black linguine. Two of us told the waiter we'd share the fruitti de mare, which was good because it came in a huge bowl. The pasta and seafood were both fantastic. Then we had dessert. We had the warm chocolate soufflé and creme brûlée. The creme brûlée was some of the best I've had - the textures and consistency were perfect. We have been to Little Italy many times and I would definitely recommend Sofia's if you are in town.

Very Good italian food!

By Victoria K |

2 time in New York and still love this neighborhood. Food is very good and the service is very kind. If you are looking for a local Italien place that serves good foods this is definately the place to go! The pizza are made in stone ovens which is a huge plus.

Yum

Great food. Service was great also. Did not have to wait long. Very clean. I had Lasagne and friend had fettuccine alfredo. This is our second time and will come again.

Bad service, low quality food

By Permanganato99 |

We waited 1 hour to be served because waiter forgot to put in our order. 20% gratuity automatically put in the bill so no way of compensating 1 hour wait. Food quality mediocre for the price. Avoid at all costs, tourist trap.

Excellent pizza and nice terrasse

By Sonia W |

We had pizza and wine and it was a great meal. We sat outside and took time to relax. The margherita pizza was excellent. The waiter was ok but I don't think he felt like working that day and we would have changed waiter but it wasn't possible, unfortunately...

Great experience!

By Serena B |

I finally had the pleasure of dining at Sofia’s and it was an unforgettable experience. The restaurant is nestled in the heart of one of the city's most iconic neighborhoods and it truly captures the essence of Italian dining were the abundance of competitors are considered more like tourist traps. The menu is a highlight, the Pappardelle Bolognese, a classic dish, was elevated to new heights with its rich, hearty meat sauce and perfectly cooked pasta. The dish was so flavorful that I couldn't resist to take a second portion, it was that delicious. Then we had the whole roasted Branzino that the server recommended, this typical Mediterranean fish was cooked to perfection, its delicate and tender meat paired perfectly with a light lemon and herb dressing. The fish tasted really fresh, and the flavors were bold and well balanced. My compliments to the service that was top-notch, the waitstaff was attentive and friendly, making the experience even more enjoyable. The atmosphere was cozy and intimate, making it the perfect spot for a romantic dinner or a special occasion. (Valentine’s day is coming soon) As a New Yorker I definitely recommend Sofia for anyone looking for a unique Italian dining experience in Little Italy.

Good food, poor experience overall

By LilyMallick |

Although our food from Sofia's was of a good standard (the meatballs in the spaghetti and meatballs dish were excellent), the overall experience was poor due to the unprofessional manner shown by the manager. He kept going into the surrounding restaurants getting into arguments with the owners there and was shouting expletives from the street. It really made the whole eating experience a lot less enjoyable.

Rich is Right!

By HawkeyetheLawyer |

We had great food here. Rich, the guy out front who invited us in, is so great at his job and made us feel so welcome. Best in Little Italy.

A bad experience

By Beate S B |

Overpriced mediocre food. They charge over nine dollars to pay with cards. They automatically take 20% tips. We're not coming back.

Delicious!

By Carolyn N |

If you love Penne Alla Vodka...this is the place for you. We had such a great experiences at this restaurant on our short trip to NYC. In 4 days, we ate here twice. The staff is super friendly and attentive. The food, wine and staff were excellent!

OK place to eat in Little Italy but a bit pricey and annoyed by attitude

By Joyce W |

First time we try to eat in Little Italy. I love the Funghi e porcini made from crimini, shitake, black perorino mushrooms. My son's linguini alla Vongole was too salty. The service was slow even it was not too crowded. We have to ask for the bread and water. It was good weather to eat outside but not feel too good when passerby survey what you eat constantly. Especially strange when the guy calling people in keep saying this place is owned by true Italian, the neighboring restaurants are owned by Mexicans. That kind of announcement does not make the food taste any better!

SCAM!

By Luc M |

Catch tourists. Honestly if you like Italian dishes do not go there. We got fooled by Google reviews. Yet the slapper in front of the restaurant should have put the chip in our ear. It is very expensive with tips already included in the bill. So don't pay twice! The food is mediocre.

I loved

By Gollam76 |

Difficult to evaluate. Because this is not fine dining restaurant, but a real family business with real home made tastes

Good good, service non-existent

By Snazzyyazzy |

This restaurants that had no one in it, opposed to other surrounding restaurants but I chose it due to a specific pasta. Mine was delicious but my husbands was too salty. Service was horrendous- basically no service despite 3 staff sitting inside watching the football on their phones. I value good service and would never go back or recommend due to such poor service. Try one of the many other Italian restaurants.

One and only on mulberry street little italy nyc

The best of the best italian food on mulberry street little italy 🇮🇹 The seafood pasta fradiavolo was the best I ever ate and my friend also love the homemade lasagna. Definitely will come back. Thanks for the hospitality

1* Service 4* Food

By rks286 |

I went to Little Italy with some friends for dinner on the closing night of the San Gerrano festival. The food came highly recommended and did not disappoint. The place is easy to notice, has outdoor seating and reasonable prices. We were seated almost immediately in spite of a decent turn out in the restaurant. The service was a little slow, which we ascribed to the crowds. That was only the beginning though! We ordered Perronis for the table - the ones we got were completely flat so we had them replaced by the Morettis (the option for which was not even given to us initially by the server). We ordered the bruschetta for the appetizer, and two pizzas (margherita and calabria - both delicious; great crusts and toppings) and two pastas (the spinach and ricotta ravioli and the gnocchi in pesto sauce; the gnocchi itself was outstanding and came in one of the best pesto sauces I've had in a long time). We subsequently ordered another margherita and another gnocchi. While the food was superb, a few things to highlight: 1. The servers aren't exactly friendly and pleasant to deal with - replacement of the beer almost felt like a favor (as a matter of principle, I refuse to pay for something that has likely been sitting around in the open for long and lacks the essence of the drink so I do reserve the right to point it out). 2. Our antipasti arrived considerably after the pizza and pasta, we would've liked to have eaten it as an appetizer and not as a meal supplement. After telling one of the servers about the delay, we were told to "relax" as it was on the way. 3. Considerable oversight on the part of the servers - no offer to top off the pasta with cheese and no complementary bread. Both these things were given to ALL the tables around us. 4. Just getting the check right took about 20 minutes - they billed us for 5 beers more than we actually had (including the Perroni we sent back) and a pizza we didn't order (didn't bill us for a gnocchi which we proactively called out too). The back on forth took a long time when any decent place will get it right first time even on the busiest of days. 5. You sign a credit card receipt with a PEN and when you go out to eat, you do not generally carry one. On asking the server for a pen, we were met with derisive looks and almost got into an altercation over a pen and the server insisting there was nothing wrong with not providing one and that the service was exemplary. Part of the eating out experience is not just the food or the company but the service as well. While the food at Sofia's was very good, I probably would try out other places in the area simply because no food is worth the sub par service we received here. I've seen the other great reviews here and sadly (and disappointingly), my own experience came nowhere close to that listed.

Welcomed by a happy new year and enjoyed fresh Italian salad

By Fantastic632 |

We had outside seats nicely set up and it made the rainy day a nice day. Enjoyed good food and drinks with people watching of Little Italy. Service was very good and friendly. They gave "a Happy New Year" to everyone walking by on the street, which was nice. Had a nice New Year moment.

Disappointing

By Agnes |

Very disappointing visit, poor service quality. Food tasty but oversalted and overpriced. 20% gratitude added by default to our bill.

Steve lured us in and it was a wonderful experience

By Hmuehe |

Steve works the sidewalk crowd, making people feel good and enticing them to eat at this fabulous restaurant. His personality made us come 2 years ago and since he was outside working the crowd tonight, we came back. The service is great. The food is great and we will be back the next time we visit NYC! There are lots of restaurants to choose from but this is the one to go to!

Lunch

By Patricia C |

Started off with a bottle of precesso. Ordered short ribs with pasta, fried calamari, white fish, Penne with vodka sause. Fresh bread and olives on the table. Service was very good, food was excellent.

Fitting atmosphere in Little Italy

By VinZiggy |

Had lunch at Sofias in Mulberrystreet with my wife and family. A lttle expensive but hey New York is expensive. Good italien food and atmosphere fitting to the area. My favorite place in NYC. Friendly staff and the star is Flower that was super friendly. Reccomend 100%

Food good, service meh

By MrsK8Ball |

Our sons wanted pizza for dinner so we stopped in. It isnt large new pizza but it was tasty. My husband had a chicken dish that I really loved, and I had a pasta was bolognese in which I also really enjoyed. Now the cons are price- 70 bucks for no drinks and 3 entrees! (Yikes) service was so slow and so was the food. I would go back

Excellent!

By Julie T |

Everyone in our group was super happy with their order. Fantastic food, comfortable space, great service. Definitely will return.

Ripoff

By Carlos T |

Cóctel advertised in front $12 Ordered two double vodka with soda Bill: $91.00 I couldn’t believe it You could purchase 1 1/2 gallons of vodka for that price Would not recommend this place What a ripoff!

Good restaurant

By CatherineCruz |

It's a super cozy restaurant with a nice atmosphere that makes you feel like you're in Italy. We went with two kids, so we chose to sit at the end of the restaurant, which was super calm and peaceful. I also love that they have a skylight. We had very good service, and everybody was super kind and polite. The food came fast and it was beautiful and very tasty. I ordered the Gnocchi a la Sofia and my husband the risotto al mare. The only thing that I need to say is the bad situation in the bathrooms. They were not clean and only one working badly, the other one was out of service as some sink.

PLEASE NEVER GO THERE

By Julie H |

VERY VERY VERY VERY BAD EXPERIENCE !!!!!!! The food was not good at all, I took gnocchi carbonara, they never told me that there was an extra when you change the type of pasta.... Even the water and Coca Cola had a strange taste .... Finally at the end I ask for the bill and they put 10 $ of tips without our approval so I ask the waiter why they don't ask us before he said that it was included in all the restaurant in little Italy, that was absolutely WRONG because the night before we had dinner at " DA NICO" the other street and the food was just AMAZING, very professional, very good quality of food and they ask us if we wanted to tip ! so I recommend 10000$ DA NICO and NOT SOFIA's Please be careful, there is a guy outside of the restaurant that shows you some pics of the food but there are fake !!!!

Lunch stop

By Murgi75 |

Great pasta and service. The bread was ok. Only complaint is there is only one bathroom stall for the whole restaurant.

Average food with VERY HIGH PRICES FOR THE SPECIALS!

By Mark M C |

We were greeted by someone outside by the menus. We should have known not to walk in when they have to convince you that their food is good or better. Nevertheless, it was dinner time and we decided to walk in. The waiters and staff kept on screaming at each other the whole time we were there. The specials were announced and the waiter spoke so fast (even for a New Yorker) that we could not decipher what they were. My wife asked for clarifications on the specials. Again, he spoke so fast that I could not understand much of what he was saying. We settled on the dinners and he promised my wife that she would love the “dinner special” (something similar to a “soupa de peixe”) for one. I tried her food it was average and lacked taste. I ordered a bronzino fish (grilled sea bass) again the same. The others ordered a pizza and a pasta and it was ok. The kicker came when the bill was presented a simple “soupa de peixe” was $60.00. Sofia’s of Little Italy did not have the ambiance, quality in food, service and manners for such a price. So, beware of the SPECIALS if you happen to stop there!!!

Totally Over-priced

By Mags M |

Food was very nice but after much persuasion from Waiter my partner opted for seafood special - he neglected to tell us that it was 60 dollars & while it was nice, it certainly wasn't worth that. Service was slow & waiter was indifferent. Would not return

Fast and delicious

By Jww1962 |

Our meal came out fast and was very good. Service was friendly and good. They work the street to get you in the door. We were offered free wine with dinner if we came in. Would eat there again.

Good food in Little Italy.

By Jamaica Travelz |

We visited Sofia’s today for lunch on a whim and had several lunch specials. The chicken masala was very tasty along with the Fettuccini Alfredo and spaghetti bolognese. The restaurant appears to need a thorough cleaning but the food did not disappoint. I did go online to read the reviews which were basically very limited. The staff was friendly and I would visit again.

Threats if you don't leave the tip they want

By Jorge C |

Threatened if we didn't tip. The food has taken too long, cold and tasteless, the worst came when it came to paying. We have been included 20% tip in the account and when we said we had not chosen the tip we wanted to leave, an Argentine PR came in telling us that if we did not leave that tip they would call an Italian to beat the tip out of us.

Very expensive for a not very good Italian

By JUSTIN O |

Very expensive for what was a very average meal. Shop around. You can get a nicer meal for less money pretty much anywhere

Worth dying for ❤️

By Andriano |

The most authentic italian restaurant in New York! Delicious pasta and ravioli. And absolutely the best tiramisu in the world!! Literally melts in mouth :) And cheers to the staff! Funny hosts, welcoming, warm, and cozy atmosphere. Great wine list. Me and my friends come here atleast once a week. P.s. The Chief's specials changed my perception of food. Y

Amazing

By Sarah M |

Was a great spot. Very friendly and food was amazing. Would recommend anyone who is coming to New York City

Good value for Little Italy

By Corinne M |

Wanting dinner in Little Italy. All prices inflated, especially when you live 2 hours from Italy, but it is New York. Picked this one and had a nice meal: arancini & Sofia's salad to share as starters then Rigatoni Cacio e Pepe and Bucatini alla Matriciana. Waiters efficient & friendly.

Some excellent food and service

By mcchuck2014 |

We stopped for dinner and had some authentic Italian food. The meatball appetizer is excellent, as is the eggplant appetizer. For meals we had Osso Bucco, spinach Ravioli, Cavetelli Fra Diavlo and Torellini. Everything was fantastic as was the service.

Wasn’t impressed with the food

By stuart w |

Little Italy was bustling with people so we ended up in the first place we could find a table. Staff were pleasant and service was good. Wasn’t impressed with the food, quality or quantity. Gnocchi was bland and tasteless, sauce was very runny and a poor portion size for the cost

Wow!!! Great food!!

By Excursion694047 |

Went with a couple of friends to dinner at sofias. This restaurant is amazing!! Everything is great! The pasta is made there so it's divine.. cheese is amazing.. all appetizers were just a delight. Best restaurant in little Italy... very attentive waiters. I would come back in a heart beat. I'm giving it 5 stars..and it's hard to earn 5 stars with me. Go there! I'm like... how do they prepare this unbelievable food??? Real Italian.. fresh..no words..

There are better options .. too salty

By Anakin |

First time here and might I made bad choices and if you are lucky you can find what you like. I had fried calamari , super strong oil smell plus salty. Seafood risoto or Risoto fruti de mare was salty as well , I use to dine at little Italy for several years at every trip and this place is under the regular level. I do not recommend. The staff is cool and super friendly.

NOT Olive Garden

By txrunnermom |

They guy outside has talked us into the door twice now, both times by telling me that it’s not like Olive Garden in Texas. Clever. And true. EXCELLENT food. We started the meal with bread and oil, so unless you need extra bread and garlic in your life, don’t order that from the appetizer menu. Both kids had fettuccine alfredo, and we had chicken marsala and chicken parmigiana. The kids said it’s the best alfredo they’ve ever had (they eat that a lot), and everything was delicious. It’s a wait for the food, so be prepared.

A Disappointing Experience

By Murph211 |

I was expecting greatness, but sadly, I was disappointed with mediocrity. We ordered the Saltimbocca with veal. Meh. Service was less than average. Skip this restaurant.

Amazing meals

By colleenc992 |

We love Sofia’s and come here every time we are in NYC. We’ve tried other restaurants in Little Italy but this is by far the best!! Jackie is a great bartender and makes a great espresso martini. Vodka and Alfredo with homemade pasta are amazing!!

This place is the best nomz in nyc

By IknowZnomz510 |

The owner is awesome, the pasta is beyond good and home made. Oh Yeah, and the bread is on hit! I'm very happy I came here, probly coming back tomorrow. I literally made this account after eating the salad and lobster bisque, my mushroom ravioli wasn't even here yet. That was excellent btw. Everything tastes so clean and flavorful :]

Excellent food, underrated

By Jonathan R |

We were drawn to consider Sofias by the very polite and helpful greeter, and made our final decision to come in because we liked what we saw on the menu. We knew we were taking a chance because the restaurant was empty, and we were aware that the online reviews were low compared to others near it. However, the lobster ravioli was excellent, and my wife's scallop dish was also very good. The waiters were polite, and the decor inside is very nice. There was one glitch where they put in the wrong orders...must have been a communication issue. But they caught the mistake themselves and put the correct order in.

Excellent choice for Little Italy

By scubamex |

Had a great meal at Sofia's. Great service. Our waiter, Toli, was excellent. Ate there before going to the theater. We will be back to this restaurant as the food was top notch and the service was top notch as well. Ask for Toli and you will have a wonderful experience. We are definitely recommending this gem to our friends.

Nice Lunch

By moishe613 |

Located in the heart of Little Italy. Friendly host and service. They answered my questions about the menu. I had the penne vodka, my son had pizza, and my wife and daughter had the spaghetti with meatballs. Everyone enjoyed their food, and the price was reasonable. Grazie Sofia's!

Food was delicious, server was so rude.

By Jmc428 |

I must say, with so many options and the fact that I've been to Little Italy so many times. I wasnt Ed to try something new. The gentleman at the door, what a gentleman man. He was the reason we decided to enter, which I'm glad bc I really enjoyed the food. The Margarita Pizza, eggplant parmigiano was so delicious. The server, so rude!!! I tried to be nice to her, bc I've been a server but she needs to smile, she should learn how to be pleasant or choose to work in a different field. If I return, it will be for the quality in the food, but please match the service with the taste of the food. Overall, hosts & food great!!!

Friendly and good food

By mdhuntington |

Fast talking and convincing guy on the street talked us into trying this place and we weren’t disappointed. Friendly service, attentive and delicious food. The kids loved the spaghetti carbonara!

Too many other choices to put up with the bad service…

By Bertha22 |

We carefully selected little Sophia‘s from all the other restaurants in the area after looking at the menus. The food did not disappoint although the portion for the lasagna is very small for the price with no sides or side salad. Our family had a pizza which was OK, but very floppy, the lasagna and the fettuccine Alfredo were decent. The pear and Gorgonzola pasta was delicious. We ordered the garlic bread appetizer which for eight dollars was five very thinly sliced pieces of French baguette. We noticed other tables around us had bread so we asked for bread and butter and we’re told that we could only get bread and they acted like it was a big deal. Our water in our drinks were never refilled while we were there. Towards the end we asked for more water and they said OK but never brought it. We were never checked on by anyone while we were eating. Overall, the food is very good quality, but the service was absolutely horrible.

very humorous staff....

By laob |

staff is great! we had a very good experience. no different from any other restaurant in little italy - try to lure you in with specials, and that pasta is homemade. well, food was just ok. pasta is not homemade that much i know. . our service was good we wanted a non-italian wine (i know...i know, but, just sayin) the server tried telling us they didnt have it...well, we were going to leave, but, they somehow found the wine we wanted....hhhmmm. tried selling us somy yucky chianti. we are not fans of chianti the staff is a bunch of jokers and we enjoyed ourselves. food was okay. we would definitely return though if only for the entertainment. lol

It was nothing to write home about

By Laura Lowe |

Outside the restaurant we stopped to have a look at the menu . The lovely gentleman at the door was ever so polite and nice and that's what made us go in . Are we sorry we did . The gentleman at the foot was as nice as they got . The staff are so rude it's unbelievable . The food was ok but made out to be more . A big positive is the decor . The decor and surroundings are beautiful .

Great dinner in Little Italy

By S8691 |

We had great service and loved the food. Glad to hear that the restaurant will be having a make over soon.

Bad service and staffs were very rude!!

By Keiah V |

Came here with a friend of mine for dinner, while we were waiting in line to be seated one of their staff accidentally drop 3 jags of water next to me and did not even apologies! A guy who’s standing outside the door which Im guessing was the host told me “oh don’t worry it’s just water” yess water but I got wet!!! 2 women came after us and was seated straight away. Waiters took so long to get our orders and the food wasn’t even that good. Staffs are very rude and doesn’t give a damn to their costumers except the Ecuadorian man who busts his ass off working whilst his colleagues were standing outside the door laughing and chatting. At the end we have to pay an additional of 20% gratuity even though their service was appalling!! Never come to this restaurant, they will rip you off!!!!

Terrible service, average food

By sjianette |

Many other places in little Italy that are much better. I second the review titled “this place needs a visit from Gordon Ramsey.”

Apps & Aperol Spritz!

By Vinu K |

Stopped here on a beautiful summer day for appetizers and aperol spritz. good spot to people watch and the service is pretty decent for NYC.

Interesting

By arithian |

One of the best Ribeyes' I have had. Fresh hot sizzling. The restaurant reminds me of some tv movies with the downstairs eating area (cellar). Would definitely visit again albeit was expensive.

Everything is excellent

By Climber747185 |

Came to New York with my family. Visited Sofias yesterday. We were only looking for drinks and a gentleman (Rachid) with excellent customer service skills and a happy manner welcomed us in, even with a stroller. Due to the cold wet snow, we were welcomed to dry ourselves by a heater and were attended to straight away. We started with a few drinks then had dessert first - The chocolate mousse. It was beautifully presented, it was delicious and warm. Perfect and we wanted more. We then decided to get a pizza and it was utter perfection. It was homemade and everything we wanted a pizza to be. As a result of the overall experience, the welcoming of staff and how well we were looked after, we took a couple of their business cards and we highly recommend this place to everyone. Our flights from JFK have been cancelled and so we will visit Sofias either tonight or tomorrow. We enjoyed it that much.

Lovely little restaurant.

By ricky464 |

Lovely little restaurant. The carbonara was amazing. Could have stayed all afternoon people watching.

Average

By Cmac1973 |

Very average experience for the money. Nice staff who were patient with the tourists, kids thought the food was good but definitely not the high quality experience we were looking for. Beware the double tip attempt (20% assumed on the bill then a further tip suggested when paying)

Great place to people watch, drink wine in Little Italy

By Lauri T |

I loved our quick trip to Sofia's. My husband and I had already eaten dinner in Chinatown the evening we walked through Little Italy and had even grabbed some gelato on the street corner. One of the super nice and helpful greeters at Sofia's drew us to wanting to grab a glass of wine here. My hubby had the Chianti and I had the Verdicchio and they were both great. I will definitely come back here to actually eat a meal on my next NYC trip.

Wonderful Lunch in little Italy

Thought it was good

By Cathy |

The food was good. We were expecting anything fantastic but it was better than the poor reviews. Service was good too.

If they can’t spell it they can’t cook it

By Laura v |

Went to this restaurant in little Italy with some friends on mine, a guy (the owner?) was outside and convinced us to get in promising us some free drinks. The menù includes antipasti, pasta as well as pizza and meat. I was disappointed to see that the menu was Italian-American kinda dishes, whilst as an Italian living abroad I was looking for traditional Italian food. The most non-Italian dish that I’ve seen was the parmigiana, marinara spaghetti sauce covered with a bread coated chicken breast. That’s not what we call a parmigiana in italy. I had some bolognese tortellini, found them under the “fresh-Made pasta” section but they were not fresh made, they were the kind of ravioli you find in the fridge in Target. Portions are big, couldn’t finish it. I also think that it was too pricey, with tax and compulsory tips I ended up paying $27 for a plate of tortellini. I don’t want to sound too harsh but if you’re Italian looking for Italian food “stai alla larga!” If you like Italo-American food then this is your place I guess.

Service

By Ch527462 |

We had ordered our food well before any other group had even been seated. After this every other group was helped, and then served before ours, which wouldn’t have been so bad, had they not told us that our order was taking so long because our food was complicated, and then we looked over and saw a table with the EXACT same things as we did. When we tried to talk to management they were scattered and unorganized, and in the end we were forced to give a $50 tip for service that was appalling, that or have the police called. All in all of a fun place to eat.

Dismal food

By theturista |

Lousy food! And you get tipped on the account automatically, plus another additional fee! This restaurant is not recommended

The best food ever!

By mollie |

The most amazing food and drinks!!! The food was impeccable and the staff were so attentive. Could not ask for better in New York. The prices were so reasonable too! You have to visit if you are in little Italy!!

New York

By mangia007 |

We decide to visit for a week. We stopped in Little Italy it was the San Genero feast. We had a great time. Picked Sofia’s for dinner it was great. Service and food were the best.

Authentic Italian

By Onaboat7 |

Came here randomly as was staying nearby. Unpretentious looking, authentic unfriendly Italian waiters, which is usually a good sign. I had home made spinach Ravioli, partner had Carbonara both exceptional. A good safe bet if your in Little Italy.

Five Star

By Danita H |

Excellent food, service and wine.!!! I would recommend the lasagna, spaghetti and clams. The bread was fresh

Excellent Italian Food, Great Service, Classic NYC!

By Travel-Passat |

The food was simply excellent! I went with my wife and teenage boys. We had veal sorrento, chicken parmigiana, fettuccine alfredo with shrimp, and chicken frances. Everyone raved about their meal. Entrees were between $21 and $25 each. Certainly more than Albany, but that’s to be expected in midtown Manhattan. We would definitely come back.

Great Pizza

By dhartsell001 |

My wife and I had pizza that made us think of the great pizza we have eaten in the wood fired ovens in Italy. I would recommend this restaurant.

Better places to eat

By Peg H |

We had dinner on a recent snowy evening. We were lured in by an employee while walking down Mulberry St. At 6:00 we were the only patrons in the restaurant, though others did come in while we were there. The wait staff did not know the menu, telling us there was a red sauce on the veal sorrentina, where it was actually a brown sauce. The meatballs were overcooked and contained grizzle. The anti-pasta plate was good as was the salad and bread. The bathrooms were disgusting. One and done, never again.

Best choice

By Shosh M |

Best Italian restaurant by far! We ordered Barrata pizza, spinach & ricotta ravioli (homemade), salad and for dessert almond cannoli. Each dish was wow!! Very attentive service, decent prices and 18% tip was already included in the bill. Definitely worth eating here!

best italian ever

By LewisCenter1 |

spaghetti and meatballs fabulous as well as the fettuccine alfredo and the Mediterranean salad. House wine delicious. Incredible food. Service a little slow but it was extremely busy on a Saturday night in July. You will not be disappointed.

Beautiful in the heart of Little Italy

By Lee C |

While in New York we wanted to try an authentic Italian restaurant in Little Italy and chose Sofia's before we came as our granddaughter is called Sofia and it didn't disappoint. We ordered the garlic bread starter to share, my wife ordered the lasagne and I had the shrimp pasta in spicy tomato sauce. Wow, it was all amazing and the staff were so friendly and the service was 1st class. I wouldn't hesitate to come back and would definitely recommend.

Great place!

By Love2Travel |

Great place, great food, great personal. We have had a great experience. So happy we found this place. All fresh and best quality.

Great food and good price

By cordser |

For New York, we had a great meal. We were there 2 times eating different dishes and pizza. The staff was always very nice and never insisted on offering dishes or anything else. Very good price (always considering being in New York)

Not so good

By CoSuJa |

The service was good, but that was no challenge as there wasn't many guests. I feel I had to wait quite long for the food. I had a lasagne, and that was ok, but not more.

Very good lunch and reasonable price

By Travelertraveler1 |

Very good lunch. They offered a wide selection of entrees and sandwiches for $14. One of us had the chicken parm sandwich which was delicious and enough to feed two people. I had spaghetti carbonara which was excellent. Another had bolognese which was delicious. Service was fast, the server was very helpful. The food was cooked to order and was very prompt. Will visit again when in NYC.

Average venue but good food

By BNAPPR |

Venue was just average, service was ok and the food was good. Would try again but overall was just average.

Great lunch

By drmakh |

Enjoyed a lovely lunch at Sofia’s after wandering around Little Italy for a while. Obviously seated promptly and brought water and bread quickly. Husband ordered the Mediterranean salad and I had the spaghetti and meatballs (always like to try the meatballs at a new place). We shared our selections and we’re not disappointed. Service and food both very good.

Excellent

By Eileen |

We enjoyed a great early dinner here. The lasagna and cavatelli with pork rib were amazing!!! Price was awesome considering we got there before the dinner menu.... we will be back

Service

By Steven H |

Wanted to treat my parents to lunch for their anniversary, stopped by in little Italy and found this place. We were sat with very little communication from the staff no “welcome” or “how are you today”. We were given menus and got our drinks pretty quick. Our “server” yes I put that in quotes because he wasn’t really much of a server to us or any other table. The entire time he was delegating the bus boy to do literally everything and he wasn’t nice about it at all. But that bus boy was excellent and worked with a sense of urgency and was handling everything. By the end of my meal I gave a $0.00 tip on my check and handed a $20 to the “bus boy” who was being told to do everything. I shook his hand and told him his work deserves to be more appreciated and he deserves better. It wouldn’t be a complete review if I didn’t mention the food. As for that it was okay I had the carbonara which is never bad but I’ve had it better elsewhere.

NOT SOFIAS ANYMORE! BREAD Shop!

By Jack Miller |

Im shocked by Sofias changing the menu!! No more fish NO more steaks! No more lobster!! This place was great! Now its a BREAD shop with salads and pizza!! I went Saturday with the former HOST and GREAT friend who was their at Sofias for 5 years! Without this HOST and Master speaker for Sofias their out of BUSINESS by 2021!! I spent $200 on Saturday for take out! In my bags not 1 piece of bread! The owner Nelson nice guy but old and slow! The Son Paul and partner total IDIOT with ZERO personality and will put SOFIAS in the poor house and out of BUSINESS! Don't waste your time! Not the same Sofias! The place looks like a circus! No staff maybe clowns their?? What a Shame was a great restaurant! Not ANYMORE!

Pizza with Crust As Thin As Potato Chips

By DaVille2 |

On one of the hottest days in the July Summer heat, we were tourists in Little Italy. There were several Restaurants with alFresco Dining, but Sofia’s was one of the few with an Outdoor Maitre d that said “Welcome! come on in where the air is cool” I personally love alFresco, but my husband does not. So we went inside. We went for drinks, if you like a refreshing drink with Vodka, try the Sofia’s Martini with Limoncello, Hubs had a nice, icy, spicy, Bloody Mary. We met the owner, who was delightful, as was our Waiter, Mr. Eduardo. We had eaten earlier at an over crowded , noisy spot on the waterfront, but decided to try the Pizza, half Italian Sausage, half hand cut pepperoni. Totally Delicious. With a crust as thin as two potato chips put together, with nice fresh ingredients. Sofia’s. Nailed It.

Little Italy

By devonboy2013 |

Walked through little Italy after being disappointed at the state of Chinatown. Picked this restaurant for many others because my wife liked the name. Food was fine, nothing exceptional and rather overpriced.

Left with FULL Bellies

By Astaria |

Stumbled upon Sofias’s after getting up and leaving another Italian restaurant due to a rude waiter. This place was phenomenal. All 6 of us got a free glass of wine. The appetizers were out of this world as was the pasta and steak,

Sofia’s was wonderful...as usual

By dmuggia |

I dined at Sofia’s with a group of 11. It was my fourth time there. It was wonderful....the atmosphere, the wait staff, the food and the beverages. All were authentic and I can’t wait for the opportunity to go back.

THIEVES! DO NOT GO HERE - Staff Stole Our Credit Card Number & Purchased a $500 Gift Card With It!!!

By CrystalG2686 |

STAFF STOLE OUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER AND PURCHASED A $500 GIFT CARD WITH OUR CARD!!! For your own safety, do not eat here. We went to Sofia's on September 2nd for dinner only to find that our credit card was compromised while we paid our bill. We gave our server Gino (according to the receipt) our credit card. He took the card in the back with the bill. He returned several (long) minutes later with the bill/receipt to sign and our credit card. We checked our online account the next morning (something we typically do when we travel) only to see the dinner charge and a $500 charge for a gift card minutes after. And I am sure there were larger amounts attempted but there is a cap on the card. The bill was printed at 9:53pm and the $500 charge for the credit card went through at 10:03pm WHILE THEY STILL HAD THE CARD IN THEIR POSSESSION. I keep our cards in a non-scannable wallet and the card was not out of this wallet at any other time that day. This is absolutely unacceptable and illegal and we are disgusted by the actions of the staff at Sofia's. We have advised the credit card company of this incident as well as the Better Business Bureau. This is not how you you treat your customers, especially those visiting from other countries. I am hoping this is not something the owner participates in and if this is a staffing issue should be looked into immediately.

A rip off

By Dee E |

Don’t waste your time or your money. I was on an errand near little Italy and thought I’d grab a late lunch as I hadn’t been to the area in a very long time. It was always full of tourists but for us New Yorkers it was still possible to find a good meal. Sophia’s most definitely is not the place. Once the hawker gets you in the door service is non existent. I had to get up from my table go outside to the hawker to go into the back and get a waiter. That was my first mistake. I should have left then and there. And it continued spiraling downhill from there. It’s not even worth my time to recount the remainder of my experience....the place deserves to close down. No bread, awful food, outrageous prices 😡

So delicious!

By Michael |

We were visiting New York/Little Italy for a family dinner. I’d call it a home run, but with four different dinners served to the four of us.... it was a GRAND SLAM! Best veal I’ve ever had! I sure hope Grubhub delivers to Wisconsin!

Tasty Food

By TravelWithMeko |

Sofia's has some of the best Itailan food in Little Italy. The food is out of this world! we dined for two but ordered three plates to share togethet. We visit Little Italy frequently and are used to bigger portions bigging served. Here at Sofia's you'll find that there are made home made pastas on the menu. There is also a dining area for outside eatting and inside eatting. The staff are very friendly and will make sure you are taken care of.

Good hearty food, lovely staff

By Grace |

Good hearty food, lovely staff who were very attentive. I got the ravioli, which I enjoyed, but I’d say order a side with it as it’s a small dish. A down side is that the restaurant is opposite a massive Christmas store which might ruin the atmosphere for some people, but I found I didn’t even notice when sat down.

Got chased down the street!

By Josh B |

Food okay but nothing to write home about way overpriced. Menu not clear about additional cost for protein, when a symbol indicates you can add one but no price. Service was okay until the end then, well after we paid we was chased down the street being demanded of $20 for a tip which we didn’t want to pay, as a tip is not a legal requirement, we paid a tip which we was happy with. RUDE

WORST SERVICE IN TH WORLD

By Kamaljit S |

Four of us came here for a drink. The waiter was yelling to us when we tried to order drinks. " Go back to your own place to order your asian food." Never and ever waster a penny here. What a bad service !!!!!!!!!

Good meal, great service!

By blanquita79 |

We were actually coaxed in by the host to eat here when we were walking by. We just wanted pizza...something low key, but decided to eat here anyway. Service was excellent and the pizza was good.

Good food but annoyed by noisy employee

By Gloria H |

We went here for lunch. They offer a nice menu- salads, pasta dishes, appetizers, drinks, entree, and dessert. They have both inside and outside dining. My husband and I shared pasta primavera and chicken marsala. In addition I had a garden salad. There is also complimentary bread. The food was good but the bread tasted stale. Our biggest complaint was the employee that stood outside of restaurant and continually yelled "if you don't like the food you don't have to pay" to get people to come in to eat. We had to listen to him throughout the meal. At times he also insulted those that did not want to eat there. The service was good to our table but we were definitely disappointed with the atmosphere.

Worst italien restaurant ever!!!!!

By bdp432 |

Please avoid that restaurant!!! Bad food, tourist trap like no other, too expensive, service crap and so on and so on. The "boss" told us that everything is the fault of his staff and he cannot do anything against it. They would be the perfect participants for Gordon Ramseys hells kitchen. The service of 18% is included and that is best for them because they wouldn't get a dime. I normally have a good nose to find a good restaurant. This time I was completely wrong!!!!!!

Happy hour

By Nik H |

Came to Sophia's with my Daughter for lunch and drinks and it was absolutely superb. The food is amazing and the staff, particularly Joey & Franco made the whole experience so funny and special. Happy hour became happy hours 🍎💚

Overpriced meal with hidden charges

By G B |

Do NOT go here. Applied $8 charge for using credit card and 18% tip automatically applied. When queried was told me that this is a tourist area so charges are mandatory. However we ate in a restaurant the previous day a few feet away and did not have any of these mandatory charges. Also sold very very expensive meal from specials board believing we were getting a much cheaper meal which was on the menu. Supposed manager was RUDE. Felt like we were being scammed! AVOID

Great experience McDonald’s

By AlfredCo |

Great food and the service was great. Highly recommend when going to Little Italy. The prices were great as well. The pasta was authentic.

NO ITALIAN AT ALL !!! AVOID

By Dario M |

Disgusting food !! Milanese with no chicken between the burned breadcrums, cacio e pepe with no cheese sauce , bolognese tagliatelle that tested of burnt garlic. Olive oil with water in it , with a dead fly in it , and ,unprofessial address of our complain ,, they did take off the chicken from the bill but no apology or regret ,,, presented the check and desappeared in a rush out if embaressment ,, AVOID

Ladies Dinner Out

By Poshbirdy |

Unplanned stop but not disappointing, very limited for vegan but kitchen did seek to accommodate some requests, great red wine by the glass and fabulous Chocolate soufflé, made the whole evening worthwhile. Fun and relaxing ambience and the staff very attentive.

Food good if it doesn't get thrown at you.

By Parker F |

Four of us came here for a special meal so my friend could propose to his girlfriend. A full glass of prosecco was spilt in my friends meal, all over his mobile phone and clothing by the waiter. They were going to leave us sat in a prosecco puddle if we hadn't requested to move. The glass of prosecco was replaced though. Then as they were collecting the plates , the waiter dropped all the dirty cutlery off the plates in my friends lap. An accordion player was present, which we thought was quite a charming feature of the restaurant, until we had to actually give him money to leave us alone. All of the above is forgivable, we all have a bad day, but when we went to pay they expected full service charge. They thought that replacing a glass of prosecco that they spilt was adequate. They weren't very gracious. A massive argument then took place, it was all very embarrassing. I'm not even sure the manager was dealing with us. Disaster! Customer service was questionable, It was a bit of a tourist trap.

Good food overpriced

By Saxcrona |

The food and wine was good but it was overpriced for what you get. Service was okay but the gratitude of 20% was too much

Delicious pizza and Orecchiette Ala Barase

By Sylvia G |

This was our first time visiting little Italy and we had a late dinner here. The service was decent and most of the food was delicious. I sampled the fettuccine but it lacked I’m flavor and not creamy enough. The pepperoni pizza was delicious and a hit with everyone in my group. Orecchiette Ala Barase was also delicious. That flavor was by far one of the most delicious sauces I have ever had. Highly recommend anyone try and the pizza. They do charge an automatic 18% gratuity. Which in Texas, this only occurs with parties of six or more. They also charge an operating fee but will give you a few dollars in discount. If you pay cash. Aside from that. Everything went well and we will definitely be back. Even if it is just to pick up some pizzas to go.

OK food but really a tourist trap

By Richard_Harpum |

My wife, some friends and I ate at Sofia's during a 4-day visit to New York City. We wanted to find some genuine Italian cuisine in Little Italy and chose Sofia's from a number of others more-or-less on a whim. It looked nice and the waiter was friendly and personable. However the food was average at best an certainly not memorable. And frankly, it was overpriced. I would not go back.

Perfect!

By SkigerstaBear |

We were a walk in on a busy Saturday night, charmed by the welcomer! Every step of the way Sofia’s was an absolute delight every step of the way for me and my family. Live music, fantastic service……….and that’s before the food - a menu that every dish was screaming out to us……but all three of us were absolutely over the moon with our choices - top quality! Thank you for having us - what a delight…..easily the best meal we’ve had in New York so far!!

Disaster & disgrace to any Italian food!

By Fontanaditrev |

Disaster & disgrace to any Italian food when you eat at Sofia's (143 Mulberry st. NY, NY 10013) Its shameful when you say "pasta" at this restaurant! Anything on the menu has to be paused until the chef is removed from the premises. Little Italy is a historic place & its time to point the exit to Sofias! Please bring back the classic Italian restaurant which once was respectful! Don't eat or drink at this restaurant! Just pass by until the time is up for them to move away! Perhaps to Italy to learn one or two things what Italian food is really like! Throw out the keys, Sofia's! Maybe, you can start a different career, after all!

Expensive subpar food, poor atmosphere, slow service

By MC of WV |

Last night, my wife and I made the mistake of not making a reservation for another Little Italy restaurant we like, so we ended up at Sofia’s. We should have left and looked for somewhere else to eat before we were even seated. It was cramped, the people were loud, and the music was even louder. The host tried a couple times to take us to a table and the manager (?) yelled at him each time (and he continued to yell at and degrade him in front of the customers throughout the meal). It took quite a while before someone came around to take drink orders. We just got water; our first glasses were poured for us, but a carafe was left for us to refill for ourselves. (My wife noticed other tables getting bread, but we did not; to be fair they may have ordered it, so I’m not sure if we were getting stiffed or they just don’t serve bread as a starter.) The carafe was never refilled when we’d emptied it. I ordered cheese ravioli as their prices for other things I’d have preferred were a bit high. My wife order fettuccini alfredo. It was another decent wait for the food to come. When it finally did, her dish was steaming but mine was cold. And it was only five cold pieces of pasta for $18! It tasted decent but certainly nothing to write home about. My wife said the same about her dish. There was more waiting for the check, and when it came, it had a 20% automatic gratuity. Nowhere on the menu did I see a mention of the tip. Had I had more energy, I would have fought the tip, not only because there was no mention of it, but I didn’t feel, even as a normally generous tipper, that the spotty, slow service warranted it. I simply crossed out the line for additional tip, wrote the total, signed my name, and walked out never to return. TL;DR: The atmosphere and service were not good. The man I assume is the manager was a real jerk. Food is not bad but not great. The prices are way too high, and they extort a 20% tip on top of the exorbitant prices. There are other, better places to spend your coin if you want good food in Little Italy.

The Best Italian Food, Ever!

By Anita |

We were in town for the weekend and asked a local where the best Italian food was and they told us "Sofia's". We were seated promptly, the bread and olive oil starter was great. We finished it up just in time for our food. We ordered gnocchi, cheese ravioli, and chicken parmesan. I can honestly say that the cheese ravioli was the BEST I have ever eaten. My granddaughter loved the gnocchi, and it was comparable to what I have had in Rome, Italy. We finished things off with tiramisu to celebrate my daughter's birthday and it was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. We are going again in a few weeks, and Sofia's is at the top of our list of places to eat.

NOT SOFIAS! HORRIBLE MENU!

By Jack Miller |

I went last week with my girlfriend looking for Toli head waiter and Steve BEST HOST on the block! Some dummy waiter told me their not working here ANYMORE! WOW WOW 2 best guys gone! Why??? They changed the menu! No lobster NO Steaks No spinach ravioli!!! WOW! Their selling sandwiches and pizzas! What a JOKE! The old MAN Nelson the OWNER must be getting decisions and bad ADVICE from his SON who knows NOTHING about the BUSINESS! SAD it was a great restaurant when they had a REAL menu and Toli and Steve where THEIR! Now its not even a restaurant ANYMORE! More like a cafe for POOR people!!! Very VERY SAD! Walk AWAY go to the CORNER on Hester! Much better!

LOUSY.

By beatriz a |

The food is nothing out of the ordinary but the deal was important. During the meal picking up the dishes when we weren't all done yet like they were in a hurry to get up. Once we asked for the bill we were forced to pay an 18% tip without even asking, when we said no, they threatened to call the manager to accompany us not amicably to leave the premises. The waiter speaking in English when he was Hispanic assured us that by law it was mandatory which is not true Lousy, lousy service and lousy quality. Not recommended.

Great food

By Trianne Y |

Great food. I loved the fact that their food automatically doesn't come with pork as most Italian restaurants do. All beef meatballs and the lasagna was all beef. Excellent food, but be aware they add an 18% tip and because my mom wouldn't let me look at the receipt she left more. If I'm ever in New York again I would eat here again.

Very good, Italian style pizza

By Cherry_Wonderdog |

Very pleasant restaurant that served our group pizza burrata. It wasn’t the most exquisite Italian food Cherry Wonderdog has ever eaten, but it was nonetheless a delectable thin pizza with a small amount of tomato sauce, mozzarella, baby arugula, balsamic glaze, shredded parmesan cheese, and burrata cheese doused with truffle oil. It felt very Italian – certainly not Domino's material!

Awesome and memorable experience!

By GustatoredelMondo |

I finally had the pleasure of dining at Sofia’s and it was an unforgettable experience. The restaurant is nestled in the heart of one of the city's most iconic neighborhoods and it truly captures the essence of Italian dining were the abundance of competitors are considered more like tourist traps. The menu is a highlight, the fresh hand made ravioli filled with ricotta, was simply delicious, thin and super tasty. The dish was so flavorful that I couldn't resist to take a second portion, it was that delicious. Also we shared the classic Ossobuco under the recommendation of our servers that was very tender and flavorful. My compliments to the service that was top-notch, the waitstaff was attentive and friendly, making the experience even more enjoyable. The atmosphere was cozy and intimate, making it the perfect spot for a romantic dinner or a special occasion. We will make a reservation for the second week of February to try other dishes. As a New Yorker I definitely recommend Sofia for anyone looking for a unique Italian dining experience in Little Italy.

Ok if Angelo’s Booked

By Ogrecho |

Little Italy has Obviously changed and its mainly just a tourist destination. For me Umberto’s was a classic visit for Cherry stone clams, scungilli salad and calamari with hot tomato sauce and then Angelo’s for straight up good Italian. Visiting family wanted Little Italy,Angelos was jammed and the guy in front of Sofia’s convinced me to try it. It was good. Not great.

Catch tourist!!!

By doumdoum14 |

Salads are expensive and there is nothing in them. A Caesar with salad , bread croutons and some parmesan!!! Tips (TIP) are horrible 60$ for a table!!!!

Don’t go there

By Peter v |

They don’t understand how to make a ‘medium filet mignon’ and the vegetables tasted really odd and distasteful. And that default tip was fully undeserved.

Amazing authentic Italian Pizza

By Emma M |

There weren’t many people inside the restaurant when we arrived, but the man outside was very sweet and eager to serve us. Everyone in my group agreed it was the best pizza we’d ever had. The waitstaff was very knowledgeable about the menu items and were incredibly helpful. Multiple people checked up on us to make sure we were enjoying our meal and were pleased to hear our comments.

Good food, but only that

By Andjelic_D |

The food was delicious but everything else not for the recommendation. Little Italy is full of tourists and that's probably a reason why they don't really care much. I'm sure you can find better restaurants around.

Avoid this tourist trap. You have been warned.

By Ciarrai459 |

We were coaxed in by the friendly guy at the door. He was Charming and friendly, so we said we’d give them a go. Friendly owners, but the waiters were poor and little English. The Antipasti had luncheon meat! At an Italian restaurant!?! The wine we ordered was “gone”, so we settled for a Chianti suggested to us, without asking the price. It was $68! Specials proved were also not declared, again we didn’t ask. It was $45. Gratuity was $35. The pasta dishes were good. I don’t like giving bad reviews, but we left feeling ripped off, and feel people like this don’t deserve to do well.

Excellent all round

By ScoobyPoo |

We ate at this lovely restaurant, after some gentle coaxing from the owner out on the pavement and we are really glad we did. We were wondering through Little Italy and were looking for somewhere to have dinner and there is a huge choice available. Our party was severn in number and we had a selection of typical Italian food such as, Pizza Prosiutto, Tortellino Bolognese and Gnocchi Marinara plus antipasto, garlic bread, wines and beers. All the staff were very attentive but not too pushy and the courses were well timed in between and all the food was excellent in quality. It was a very friendly, busy place that also seemed to be patronised by the locals - always a good sign, I think. All in all with taxes, tips etc our bill came to just over $300 which for severn people with drinks is fair, considering you're in a big city. Excellent all round and would go back when we return to NYC one day.

GOOD FOOD DON'T LIKE TIPPING

By AntiqueFinderOH |

Thought the food was pretty good, service was a little lacking. Waiter claims he is the best but forgot many items. The worse though was when the reciept had a 20% tip added and then had a place to add another tip. He was a 15% waiter not 20% but was forced to leave that.

Worst service ever

By sammobley |

I was in New York traveling with my son and his choir and band. We went to little Italy to have dinner and were invited to eat at Sofia's by a gentleman on the street. So 10 of us sat down and were given menus. We placed our orders and sat back to wait for food. They brought out some nice bread and oil and so far this was a wonderful evening. Multiple other groups came and sat down while we waited. They ordered and we sat and sat while every other table was served their food. When we questioned the man in the street he gave an excuse that the pasta is custom made for each order but other people were receiving pasta. Then after most of the other tables had finished the food we got the pasta we ordered, but none of our pizzas came out. The waiter said that pizzas take a little longer to make. Thing is multiple other tables received pizza while we waited. We had to ask multiple times for a manager to try and work it out. The server told is if we didn't think we got good service not to pay the tip, but when we did that he brought the manager back and told us they would call the cops if we didn't pay gratuity. I will never eat at this place again, the food tasted good but no better than any other Italian food I've eaten. Save your time and find a place that actually cares about their customers.

Simply a bad Italian restaurant

By Stephan |

Extremely expensive for very easy food ($26 for a skinny quatro stagionne!) combined with a bit of a sleazy place and bad servicing. Ignore the screamer at the front door and walk a bit further: more than enough better Italian places to eat.

Little Italy must

By Jack D |

New management, fantastic service and food. Stopped for lunch in Little Italy and was greeted by friendly staff. Four cheese pizza and pasta were home made and super tasty. Service was great too.

A Great Meal in Little Italy,

By Joe D |

We were looking for a quick lunch in Little Italy so we stopped at Sofia's, The greeter at the door was very pleasant so we decided to give it a try. The food was very good. We had the Margarita Pizza with a tomato and mozzarella small plate before the pizza came out. The pizza was just as good as we had on our trip to Italy. We will definitely stop by on our next trip to Mulberry Street.

You'll Appreciate Olive Garden More

By Local G |

This place sold themselves as "the only 4-star restaurant in Little Italy". Loud and crowded. Small portions of bland food. Designed to empty your wallet and have you appreciate your Olive Garden when you get home. Stay away.

Lunch great food

By Rhonda H |

Lovely restaurant, good service. We all had lasagne and garlic bread which was very tasty. Would definitely go back

VERY BAD

By G.b.g.b. |

That's bad. We had two plates of pasta that we struggled to eat. I really don't recommend it. Local neglected, would never stay in the Vita !

Amazing food, drinks and fantastic service.

By Kay T |

What a lovely Italian Restaurant. Stopped in for a drink and ended up ordering food. Absolutely delicious 10 out of 10. The servers were so polite and attentive. Shout out to Jasmine at front of house who is a great ambassador for the Restaurant. Hope to return before our trip ends. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Amazing

By Tania M |

An amazing experience, the host and the food was excellent! A really nice view, stronger recommendation!!!

Quiet and satisfying dinner

Dropped by this place for dinner as wanted Italian food. Did not come with any expectation but kept an open mind. Ordered 2 traditional pasta dishes (vongole and meatball spaghetti) and garlic bread. The pasta dishes were pretty good - above average. But my wife and I were strangely hooked on the complimentary bread and olive oil. Just couldn't get enough of it! The olive oil dip had some herbs in it and was delightfully addictive with the lightly toasted bread. We normally don't finish the bread but this was one of the only times we finished the whole basket and almost wiped out the olive oil! Ambience was nice n you could relax and feel comfortable in there. Service was good and the waiters polite. We thought the price was also reasonable. Yes, the gratuity was added as a separate item in the bill but we had no reservations with paying it. Altogether an enjoyable meal!

Rude staff bad service and not great food

By London |

The food was very bad , we had tummy ache. Staff were very rude. We ordered drinks that never arrived, and the bottle that we received, arrived unopened, we needed bottle opener, and without glasses. The food wasn’t tasty . Was a bad choice in such a good location.

Decent food, slow service

By Christine |

We ate at Sofia's during the San Gennaro festival. The wait wasn't too long to sit outside, but once we sat down service was slow. Food selection is good and food was decent. Maitre D outside was a bit annoying yelling to people on the street to come sit down.

Bad

By Macarena |

The food was .. bad. Way too expensive for what it is. I ordered the chicken Marsala and wasn’t anything special, my kids share the pasta with meatballs and they didn’t finish it, knowing that they love pasta . We won’t go back again .

Some highs and lows

By Hilde_K65 |

Ok, to start off, we were a group of four, we hadn't booked and were tired and hungry. So even when we walked in the door we did have our suspicions, as it did feel like a tourist trap. The waiter seemed stressed and wanted to take our orders, even though we weren't ready. We ordered garlic bread and olives to nibble on, which were good. A bottle of white wine (which was warm, no ice bucket) and a bottle of red. The food took a long time to arrive but when it did the portions were very generous, we all ordered different dishes, but what we all found was they were lacking authentic flavor. The marsala and mushroom sauce wasn't reduced enough, the same with the tomato sauce. The only dish that we considered ok was the classic bolognese sauce. It took a long time to get our bill and even longer to pay. A word of warning, I am always cautious when waiting staff take the credit card out the back, out of sight. Would I come back? No, I thought it was too exspensive for what we got, maybe my expectations are too high, but for me this was not REAL Italian food.

Horrible Experience

By Passenger50061690053 |

We went in the middle of the afternoon on a week day. The restaurant wasn't that busy and our order was simple (an appy and a pizza), yet it took an extensive time to get our food, which was "so-so" and nothing special. This made us late for a booked event and so we had to chase down the bill at the cash register. We later discovered they'd applied an automatic tip (for two people), yet we were presented with a bill with an empty tip section to sign off on and so they double dipped on the tip which I found to be super deceptive. We definitely do not recommend giving your business to this establishment.

Great homemade Italian fare

By David G |

The place was packed due to the festival. We could have chosen a dozen or more Italian restaurants but we liked what we saw on the menu and dove in. Our food was excellent including the calamari appetizer. Good service.

Enjoyed the food and service.

By Andre C |

The kids had the Alfredo and the garlic bread, and my wife had the Branzino and they all liked their food. We shared the Olive appetizer and Scallops. I had the spaghetti and meatballs and It was very good. The atmosphere and owner make this a fun place. The only negative was their Manhattan cocktail. Get rid of the aperitifs and it would be fine. Overall very glad we were drawn in by the owner out front with the "its fresh and homemade" chant.

Please find another restaurant for dining

By Roxy H |

Food, service and ambiance were a total disaster. It is not only my review but for the table next to mine too. Only two tables were taken out front and entire restaurant inside was empty. My food does not come out even warm and the complimentary bread was 2 days old. Probably restaurant has microwaved my food as it came much hotter on the outside than on the inside. The worst part was the service -absolutely comical how much the server didn't want to be there. Definitely disappointed and will never comeback.

Favourite restaurant in NYC

By Bayman4evr |

Fantastic restaurant in Little Italy, awesome fresh pasta complimented by a great wine list. Very authentic Italian, visited Saturday, November 16. We sat next to the owner, Nelson, and his friends and family; he worked the room like a master! Service is very good; however if you want a speedy meal I suggest you go to Olive Garden. At Sofia’s, allow yourself time to enjoy every morsel, I recommend both the lasagna and fettuccine. Thanks Nelson, we can’t wait to return, your friends from Newfoundland Canada

Good food, but service could use some attention

By 333stefanieh |

Stopped by while walking through Little Italy and the food was good. Had the spaghtetti carbonara, daughter had spinach ravioli, and both of those were exceptional. My son had the veal parmesean and was really pleased with that. My husband had the lasagna and was not super happy with it. The biggest things was that it was kind of small, especially compared to the rest of the meals we had. Our waiter was not really attentive, as others were to their customers. Was reasonably priced compared with other restaurants we saw that night. We sat outside and our chairs' seats were loose and coming off.

food was ok, diavola tasteless, loud music, suuuper slow service

By frequent1 |

Food was OK The diavola was unimpressive. Others were happy with their dishes. The service was attentive but suuuper slow, they showed the patrons out front to attract customers but the entire restaurant inside was empty. No sense of italy or family inside or on the wait staff. When we finally got the bill after waiting forever they automatically added 18% and asked for more. So many other places in Little Italy to try. Not coming back.

Delicious fresh pasta

By conraads |

Just delicious and greedy. Fresh pasta of very good quality, pleasant staff and excellent value for money for NY 😊 Absolute favorite for Alfredo pasta ❤️, the carbo pasta was also very good. The pasta aatricia very good too.

Meal totally spoiled by crazy waiter behaviour

By David S |

The food and wine were really good (although relatively expensive) and the ambience really nice, the meal and overall dining experience were COMPLETELY AND RUINED by the tall, skinny, bespectacled, bearded waiter who literally RAN between kitchen and tables. At first we thought there was a genuine emergency e.g. someone taken unwell, but the running continued for the entire duration of meal, despite us asking our table waiter to have a word. We were there to have a relaxing meal after a long tiring day sightseeing - we got the polar opposite of that.

Ok food and great location

By bpeetzhansen |

Ok food with expensive and too junk-like. 1 omelet and 1 toast with coffee USD 57 It was an ordinary experience but a really good location, where we could sit outdoors in quiet surroundings in the middle of NYC.

Attentive staff

By Chloe |

The food here was good but definitely expensive. Some of the meals other members of our group had looked and tasted amazing. I ordered the ravioli which was nice but a very small portion. Service was great and the staff were all attentive

Amazing fresh Italian food

By lcdajohannecortes |

Went inside this restaurant because it was the closest place when we got hungry. Mi ten year old Ordered pepperoni pizza, my 13 year old ordered a Rib eye, my husband ordered home Made filet mignon stuffed ravioli with mushroom sauce and I order a classic lasagna. I don’t now what plate was tastier. All the food was excellent and super good! If you are in little Italy go on and check it out for yourselves. Only down was dessert, you can definite get better dessert elsewhere.

Authentic

If you’ve ever had pizza in Italy, you’ll love this pizza! Good price too! Had a glass of house and it was really good as well. So many restaurants, so hard to choose...choose Sofia’s.

Dependable italian fare

By Nancy B |

We were staying nearby and this place came with recommendations of the owner. We all got different pasta dishes and we're happy with the variety of sauces offered our complaint was that the portions were small especially in comparison with the prices which were not small. But we enjoyed our meals.

Frozen pizza...

By Francesco F |

As good Italians we went to Little Italy to look for some Italian food in NY. Too bad that there was nothing Italian, waiters no Italian, pizza margherita frozen, to avoid, use the name of the Italian food but I don't think they ever ate real Italian food

10/10

By Layla Howell |

Tonight we ate at Sofia’s and I can firmly tell you, it is some of the best Italian food I have ever had. The servers were incredibly friendly, and the food was amazing. I myself have been to Italy and I tell you this food was so authentic it was like going back. I know for a fact I am going to be dreaming about the amazing penne pasta with vodka sauce and shrimp tonight. Definitely my new favorite restaurant in NYC. If you’re looking for amazing food at an amazing price GO HERE!!!
